Florence’s mayor is pushing to split the tab for the city’s animal shelter with the county, arguing it’s only fair since county employees are using city resources — from fuel to vehicles to mileage — and the county should help shoulder the costs. With the shelter’s $1.6 million budget currently mostly funded by the city, the mayor wants a new deal before the next budget cycle to create a more balanced, sustainable partnership that gives the county a bigger say in how the shelter runs.
