Speaker 3: get to this morning. The special Session came and wentz

Speaker 3: in a matter of what seemed like minutes. It was
• 1:45
Speaker 3: actually a little bit longer than that. We're going to
• 1:47
Speaker 3: talk to Brad McIlhaney about that. Also in our second
• 1:50
Speaker 3: set we deblag at jb Acres is going to be here.

Speaker 3: if you're a sports fan as i am, the death

• 2:14
Speaker 3: Cooper and Jeff Jenkins are going to join us to

Speaker 3: talk about that. And I do want to mention this,
• 2:19
Speaker 3: speaking of mister Jenkins, hope you were able to hear
• 2:22
Speaker 3: him on the Morning News. Chris Lawrence actually kind of
• 2:25
Speaker 3: surprised him this morning. Jeff is going into the Western
• 2:28
Speaker 3: Indian Broadcasting Hall of Fame tonight ceremony of course in Huntington.
• 2:31
Speaker 3: Also from our sister station one O seven three to

• 2:36
Speaker 3: of Fame tonight as well, and so I'll touch on
• 2:39
Speaker 3: that a little bit. But Jeff, but if you missed
• 2:40
Speaker 3: it on the Morning News, Chris somehow had archival audio
• 2:46
Speaker 3: of a young Jeff Jenkins as a student at WU
• 2:49
Speaker 3: interviewing the late Senator Jennings Randolph. It was good stuff.
• 2:54
Speaker 3: Maybe Chris will upload that to the website or on
• 2:56
Speaker 3: the social media a little bit later on. So we're
• 2:57
Speaker 3: going to talk to Jeff and Coop about the death

• 3:17
Speaker 3: October eleventh. Magad Deal Jaman Schmid from Goodwill. We're here
• 3:20
Speaker 3: to talk about it. Megan, good morning, welcome to the show.
• 3:23
Speaker 5: You do have a lot going on.
• 3:24
Speaker 3: I do have a lot going on. I always have
• 3:26
Speaker 3: a lot going on. Mon Good to have you here
• 3:28
Speaker 3: with us as well.
• 3:28
Speaker 2: Hey, thank you so much.
• 3:29
Speaker 3: Glad to be here now. You folks who were on
• 3:31
Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago to do the big reveal
• 3:33
Speaker 3: of this event. Now you're back. So for people that
• 3:35
Speaker 3: may have missed about this big event happening at the
• 3:37
Speaker 3: Clay Center October eleven, take it from the top. Tell
• 3:40
Speaker 3: us what's going on.
• 3:41
Speaker 6: Hey next week next Friday, big event, dancing, good times
• 3:47
Speaker 6: with Bob Thompson, DJEJ. We're gonna have rifle games, a
• 3:50
Speaker 6: silent auction. It's gonna be an awesome night. Definitely a
• 3:52
Speaker 6: night you won't want to forget or miss.
• 3:54
Speaker 3: Sorry and well forget our miss. So what did the
• 3:58
Speaker 3: idea to do on My United Money Carlo come from?
• 4:01
Speaker 7: We had just kind of found that there was a
• 4:03
Speaker 7: little bit of an opening in the Fall Arena to
• 4:06
Speaker 7: have a nice event, a Monty Carlo event.
• 4:08
Speaker 5: We thought that would be fun with the raffle games dinner.
• 4:11
Speaker 7: Who doesn't want to get dressed up and go out
• 4:14
  Speaker 7: have dinner dancing.
• 4:15
Speaker 5: This will be a great little.
• 4:16
Speaker 7: Date night in the FALLBEFU plays the next day, so
• 4:20
Speaker 7: you'll have plenty of time to get on the road
• 4:21
Speaker 7: and head up to the game.
• 4:23
Speaker 3: What did the idea though, I mean, what exactly goes
• 4:25
Speaker 3: on at a night in Monty Carlo? What's the theme about?
• 4:27
Speaker 7: For those amazing so the Knight of Money Carlo, you're
• 4:29
Speaker 7: thanking great gaps see art deco type vibes, and we
• 4:33
Speaker 7: know that there's a lot of great gapsy art deco
• 4:35
Speaker 7: events out there and they're a lot of fun. So
• 4:36
Speaker 7: we kind of just wanted to be a little bit different.
• 4:38
Speaker 7: So Night in Monte Carlo was born. We started it
• 4:40
Speaker 7: last year. But yeah, just talking about a little bit
• 4:43
Speaker 7: of that old world Hollywood glam gaming, you know, dancing
• 4:49
Speaker 7: cigar lounge with the vip of vip bourbon.
• 4:53
Speaker 5: So that's going to be super exciting.
• 4:55
Speaker 3: And how do you get tickets for this?
• 4:57
Speaker 6: So GOODWILLKV dot com still works, but we have a
• 5:00
  Speaker 6: name change.
• 5:01
Speaker 3: I was going to get that. You guys have got
• 5:03
Speaker 3: a name change, so's to talk about that.
• 5:05
Speaker 6: So we are now good Will Entries of the Summit. However,
• 5:09
Speaker 6: our good Wild kV account still works, So if you
• 5:11
Speaker 6: look up good Will Interestries of the Summit or goodwillcav
• 5:14
Speaker 6: dot com, it will take you to our website. You
• 5:16
Speaker 6: can go nine mone in Carl and purchase tickets from there,
• 5:18
Speaker 6: or if you follow us on social media of course
• 5:20
Speaker 6: that's an easy way to get to us as well.
• 5:21
Speaker 3: Explain the new name. Why why the name change? I'm
• 5:24
Speaker 3: gonna hoad and pitch it to million, all right mate?
• 5:27
Speaker 5: Yeah, so this has been several years in the making.
• 5:29
Speaker 7: So you know, though, we are headquartered here in the
• 5:32
Speaker 7: Canal Valley and we're so proud to be headquartered here
• 5:34
Speaker 7: in our capital city. We have a twenty county area,
• 5:37
Speaker 7: so sometimes our name was not inclusive of all the
• 5:41
Speaker 7: areas that we're serving. We go as north as Wood
• 5:43
Speaker 7: and as south as Mercer, So we wanted a name
• 5:46
Speaker 7: that would better cover that territory and just be a
• 5:49
Speaker 7: little bit more inclusive of all the West Virginians that
• 5:52
Speaker 7: we're serving, and Goodwill the Summit was born, you know.
• 5:55
Speaker 3: And I've had you folks on the show many many
• 5:57
Speaker 3: times in the past, not just about this event but others.
• 6:00
Speaker 3: But again, I think that's a good point that you
• 6:01
Speaker 3: bring up, Megan, is that we think of it is
• 6:04
Speaker 3: here in the Kenaw Valley because it's where we are,
• 6:06
Speaker 3: But you guys are all over the place.
• 6:08
Speaker 7: We are all over the place and always looking for
• 6:10
Speaker 7: different ways and innovative ways to serve those counties that
• 6:14
Speaker 7: we are out in the community. A Night in Money
• 6:17
Speaker 7: Carlow as a fundraiser that benefits those programs, one being
• 6:20
Speaker 7: Mission Mobile, which is a bus.
• 6:23
  Speaker 5: If you will.
• 6:23
Speaker 7: It's a career center on wheels that we take our
• 6:25
Speaker 7: programming out into our rural communities. So if we have individuals,
• 6:29
Speaker 7: say in rural Braxton County, where we don't have a
• 6:32
Speaker 7: retail footprint right now, where we can go out and
• 6:35
Speaker 7: serve them through our stores, we can take the bus
• 6:37
Speaker 7: up to a parking lot and say hey, here's a
• 6:40
  Speaker 7: resume running course.
• 6:41
Speaker 5: Here are cours Ara courses on Google.
• 6:44
Speaker 7: Here is a way that you can help you sign
• 6:46
Speaker 7: up for Snap benefits and things like that. So we're
• 6:48
Speaker 7: always looking for ways to truly meet West Virginians where
• 6:51
Speaker 7: they're at and a night money Carlo is what helped
• 6:54
  Speaker 7: funds that.
• 6:54
Speaker 3: And I think you brought it up last time that
• 6:56
Speaker 3: you folks were here just a couple of weeks ago.
• 6:58
Speaker 3: Is that when people think goodwill, they automatically of the stores,
• 7:00
Speaker 3: so they think of the bins where they can donate things.
• 7:03
Speaker 3: But it's a whole lot more than.
• 7:04
Speaker 8: That, right, that's correct.
• 7:05
Speaker 7: Yeah, so we have a lot. I mean, we have
• 7:07
Speaker 7: a lot in the community. We're serving thousands of West
• 7:09
Speaker 7: Virginians every year. Our goal is to help West Virginians
• 7:12
Speaker 7: achieve financial stability through employment. We want them above the
• 7:15
Speaker 7: poverty line. We want them to be able to purchase
• 7:18
Speaker 7: a vehicle, we want them to be able to stay
• 7:19
  Speaker 7: in West Virginia.
• 7:20
Speaker 5: We employ a lot of individuals through our.
• 7:22
Speaker 7: Stores and our different subsidiaries, over one thousand West Virginians.
• 7:26
Speaker 7: But we're placing people out in the community every day
• 7:29
Speaker 7: to you know, we want them to obviously stay with us,
• 7:32
Speaker 7: but if their career takes them farther to achieve their dreams,
• 7:34
Speaker 7: we're going to do everything we can.
• 7:35
Speaker 5: To get them there.
• 7:36
Speaker 3: Talking with make a deal and Jamon Schmidt of Goodwill,
• 7:39
Speaker 3: and you have to forgive us, because we have you
• 7:41
Speaker 3: on several times a year. It will take a little
• 7:43
Speaker 3: while to get used to the new name and give
• 7:44
Speaker 3: us a new name again.
• 7:45
Speaker 6: Good Oil Industries of the Summit, good.
• 7:47
Speaker 3: Will Industries of the Summit. Well, let me let you
• 7:49
Speaker 3: know with the Dave Allen Show in five eighty live.
• 7:51
Speaker 3: It's brought to you right by Husband's Pizza. This month
• 7:53
Speaker 3: at your favorite Hustans, you can get a large eighteen
• 7:55
Speaker 3: inch pepperoni pizza and an eight inch chocolate chip cookie
• 7:58
Speaker 3: for only twenty three ninety nine. What about sponsorships, Jimon,
• 8:01
Speaker 3: I mean, are they still available? Because I know when
• 8:03
Speaker 3: you sponsor an event, you know you gotta have time
• 8:05
Speaker 3: to put it on shirts and on on on packaging
• 8:07
Speaker 3: and so on and so forth. Do you still need
• 8:09
Speaker 3: sponsors for the event?
• 8:11
Speaker 6: So my understanding is that we are How do you want.
• 8:14
Speaker 7: To say this, man, So let's just say signage has
• 8:17
Speaker 7: been printed for our current sponsors, but we are always
• 8:21
Speaker 7: welcome to craft a sponsorship.
• 8:23
Speaker 5: That any way anybody needs it done, so we can
• 8:25
Speaker 5: make magic things happen.
• 8:27
Speaker 3: In marketing, well, we have like and the reason I
• 8:29
Speaker 3: say that is because I know we have a lot
• 8:30
Speaker 3: of business people that listen to the show and if
• 8:34
Speaker 3: they wanted to buy a table or something like that,
• 8:36
Speaker 3: is that still available.
• 8:37
Speaker 7: Yeah, absolutely so. Tickets and those type of things are
• 8:40
Speaker 7: still available. But if people want to reach out to
• 8:42
Speaker 7: us at Marketing at Goodwillsummit dot com and say hey,
• 8:44
Speaker 7: I would really like to sponsor in some type of way,
• 8:47
Speaker 7: we can always make those things happen.
• 8:48
Speaker 3: So listen up, business owners, a business managers. If you
• 8:51
Speaker 3: want to do something nice for your employees and help
• 8:53
Speaker 3: out Goodwill of the Summit, that's a great way to
• 8:55
Speaker 3: do it. You could just buy a table absolutely and sunnight.
• 8:58
  Speaker 7: I mean, it's just it's a fall evening and we're
• 9:01
Speaker 7: so excited to beat the Clay Center this year.
• 9:03
  Speaker 5: It's gonna beautiful.
• 9:04
Speaker 3: Well, I mean the Clay Center is absolutely fantastic anyway,
• 9:07
Speaker 3: and you add all the things with it, you know,
• 9:09
Speaker 3: the Monty Carlo and the games and the whole deal. No,
• 9:12
Speaker 3: pun intended make You've never heard any jokes about your
• 9:16
Speaker 3: last name, never the real deal or the real like.
• 9:20
Speaker 3: I've never like, I've never been told you have a
• 9:22
Speaker 3: face for radio either. I've never heard that. Every time
• 9:25
Speaker 3: somebody tells me that, I'm like, oh wow, I've never
• 9:27
Speaker 3: heard that one before. But anyway, it's a great way
• 9:31
Speaker 3: for people to get involved. As you said, a night
• 9:33
Speaker 3: out on the town. You get dressed up a little bit,
• 9:36
Speaker 3: uh and and in the end of the night, you're
• 9:37
Speaker 3: still helping out a great, great cost. It is happening
• 9:40
Speaker 3: on Friday, October eleventh at the Clay Center. It is
• 9:43
Speaker 3: a night in Monte Carlo benefiting goodwill of the Summit.
• 9:47
Speaker 3: Final selling points out Jimoon, I'm going to give you
• 9:50
Speaker 3: the final selling pots.
• 9:50
Speaker 6: Why should people come to this, I mean cigars, bourbon,
• 9:53
Speaker 6: raffle games. Come on, really, this is gonna be a
• 9:56
Speaker 6: night that everybody wants to participate in and wants to
• 9:58
  Speaker 6: be there for.
• 9:59

• 10:05
Speaker 3: Because everybody's gonna be talking about it and you're gonna
• 10:07
Speaker 3: be sorry and when you see all the pictures posted.
• 10:09
Speaker 3: Sometimes they put those pictures in the paper and they're
• 10:11
Speaker 3: not out on the town segment. You see the pictures
• 10:13
Speaker 3: on your social media, you're gonna be upset that you
• 10:15
Speaker 3: didn't attend. I appreciate you guys, me and here. It's

Speaker 3: tax cuts or whatever. The guy who knows the state
• 13:19
Speaker 3: revenue Secretary Larry Pack and he's going to be on
• 13:21
Speaker 3: the show tomorrow, as will John Roberts of the Mountain
• 13:24
Speaker 3: Mission where they're gearing up for Christmas already. We'll talk
• 13:27
Speaker 3: to John about that. Plus I mentioned this earlier tonight
• 13:29
Speaker 3: in Huntington Western into broadcasting the Hall of Fame. Two
• 13:33
Speaker 3: of our family members are going in the Hall of
• 13:34
Speaker 3: Fame to night, Jeff Jenkins and Woody Woods. I've got
• 13:37
Speaker 3: Jeff Jenkins coming up a little bit later on what
• 13:39
Speaker 3: he was from the beat. Will join us a little
• 13:41
Speaker 3: bit on tomorrow show. I'm sorry and tomorrow show to
• 13:43
Speaker 3: talk about it. It's House of Delegates member jb Acres
• 13:46
Speaker 3: is here. JB Delic, good.
• 13:47
Speaker 8: Morning, thankcome, good morning, Thanks for having me. You've talked
• 13:50
Speaker 8: about a lot of good people this morning. Megan Deal
• 13:52
Speaker 8: was just in here, who I've known for a long
• 13:53
Speaker 8: time and Goodwill and plug for them, man, I've seen
• 13:56
Speaker 8: Goodwill up front some of the stuff they do, especially
• 13:58
Speaker 8: Dave with the job, any stuff they do, and hiring
• 14:01
Speaker 8: people who have challenges and giving them plumit and lifting
• 14:05
Speaker 8: them up. Good Will is an awesome organization. You mentioned
• 14:07
Speaker 8: Mountain Mission and John you know Robertson's he's an awesome
• 14:11
Speaker 8: guy as well. I've seen them help the community a ton.
• 14:13
Speaker 8: So you've got some good folks.
• 14:14
  Speaker 3: Come on.
• 14:15
Speaker 8: You mentioned Larry Pack He's a good guy. Tomorrow two
• 14:16
  Speaker 8: as well, So.
• 14:17
Speaker 3: Well, I want to ask, and I've got Brad mclhandy
• 14:19
Speaker 3: coming up a little bit later on to talk about
• 14:21
Speaker 3: the special session his take on it. But what was
• 14:23
Speaker 3: what was your take on the very short the special session?
• 14:26
Speaker 8: Afterday that It's what I expected. We had, you know,
• 14:31
Speaker 8: initially a long call by the governor in terms of
• 14:33
Speaker 8: the issues he wanted to discuss, but we knew most
• 14:35
Speaker 8: of those were going to get referred to committee. We
• 14:37
Speaker 8: have interims next week, so we're going to be back
• 14:38
  Speaker 8: in a weeks.
• 14:39
Speaker 3: This stuff won't come back Sunday night, is that right?
• 14:41
Speaker 8: That's correct, So these things won't be delayed very long.
• 14:43
Speaker 8: They refer to committee, and you know, committee work is necessary.
• 14:45
Speaker 8: That's where most of the effort goes in is in committee.
• 14:48
Speaker 8: Once something gets to the House floor, usually most of
• 14:51
Speaker 8: the hard work has been done. So I thought was
• 14:53
Speaker 8: appropriate to refer some of the things that needs some
• 14:55
Speaker 8: more fleshing out the committee that will be done over
• 14:57
Speaker 8: the course of the next week. The stuff that I
• 14:59
Speaker 8: think we easily agreeed on obviously got passed yesterday.
• 15:03
Speaker 3: So what about the stuff that may not be so
• 15:05
Speaker 3: easy to agree on? And like the Governor's propose tax
• 15:08
Speaker 3: ut where are you on that?
• 15:10
Speaker 8: Well, I mean, we have to see how we're going
• 15:12
Speaker 8: to you know, if we're going to cut tax revenue,
• 15:16
Speaker 8: then we have to make sure our spending is also
• 15:18
Speaker 8: in control. So what what I have not seen personally
• 15:20
Speaker 8: yet is a plan on the spending side, because you know,
• 15:24
Speaker 8: we're cutting personal income tax this year. Anyway, we've already
• 15:26
Speaker 8: had a reduction, we've had a trigger, which is great.
• 15:29
Speaker 8: The governor wants an additional cut beyond what was planned.
• 15:32
Speaker 8: So I've got to make sure the spending is done.
• 15:33
Speaker 8: And if we have so many things that need to
• 15:35
Speaker 8: be addressed in this state, we have water and sewer
• 15:38
Speaker 8: infrastructure projects. Childcare is an issue, foster care is an issue.
• 15:42
Speaker 8: Our ems funding needs to be addressed. That they're having
• 15:46
Speaker 8: some real crisis right now across the state. So I'm
• 15:49
Speaker 8: all for tax cuts. As a Republican, you're supposed to
• 15:50
Speaker 8: always say that, but we got to be responsible. There
• 15:52
Speaker 8: are certain things government has a duty to take care
• 15:55
Speaker 8: of when it comes to public safety, for example, or
• 15:57
Speaker 8: taking care of the public roads infrastructures, or examples I gave.
• 16:01
Speaker 8: So we've got to make sure we can fund those properly.
• 16:03
Speaker 3: And that seems to be delicate what I'm hearing from
• 16:05
Speaker 3: a lot of people on both sides of the isle.
• 16:07
Speaker 3: It's not especially your Republican counterparts. They're not against tax cuts.
• 16:12
Speaker 3: Even people like Patrick Morrissey, who's run for governor, the
• 16:14
Speaker 3: current attorney general, has said things like that, we're not
• 16:16
Speaker 3: against tax cuts. We just want to make sure that
• 16:19
Speaker 3: we're covering all the bases here. You've got to be responsible.
• 16:21
Speaker 8: And I'll say I mean, I think Jim Justice has
• 16:23
Speaker 8: done a good job in many ways as our governor. Economically,
• 16:28
  Speaker 8: I'm a fan of a lot of what he's done.
• 16:29
Speaker 8: But we do have a new governor is about to
• 16:30
Speaker 8: come in who I do believe will be Patrick Morrissey.
• 16:33
Speaker 8: That's my educating guess. And you know, I think he
• 16:36
Speaker 8: needs a bible to come in and have an agenda
• 16:38
Speaker 8: that works for him as well.
• 16:39
Speaker 3: So all right, talking to Delegate jv Acres, the Dave
• 16:43
Speaker 3: Allen showing five any live bright to imparted by Bridge Valley.
• 16:45
Speaker 3: If you're interested in proving your company's IT workforce, know

Speaker 3: skilled graduates and apprenticeships for your company. Visit Bridge Valley
• 16:58
Speaker 3: dot edu slash apprenticeships today. All right, so let's get
• 17:00
Speaker 3: to it, Deliot. Last week, the state Democratic Party issued
• 17:04
Speaker 3: a press release, and let me just read a little
• 17:07
Speaker 3: of the title as it appeared in my inbox. In
• 17:10
Speaker 3: the inbox and most media members in the state. The
• 17:12
Speaker 3: headline it said, West Virginia Democratic Party condemns Republican Delegate
• 17:18
Speaker 3: jb Acres for representing Kremlin funded extremist podcaster Tim Poole.
• 17:23
Speaker 3: Now let me continue with their words. Paragraph one. The
• 17:26
Speaker 3: West Virginia Democratic Party issued a statement criticizing Republican Delegate
• 17:30
Speaker 3: Acres for his decision to serve as legal counsel for
• 17:34
Speaker 3: right wing extremist podcaster Tim Poole in his lawsuit against
• 17:37
Speaker 3: the Harris for President campaign. Pool has been exposed as
• 17:41
Speaker 3: a Kremlin funded propaganda's reportedly receiving one hundred thousand dollars
• 17:45
Speaker 3: per episode to push devisive and false narratives favorable to
• 17:49
Speaker 3: Vladimir Putin's regime. End of statement. Your response, Delegate, I.
• 17:55
Speaker 8: Usually wouldn't want you to read what's an opponent says
• 17:58
Speaker 8: about me, but in that situation, I'm glad you did.
• 18:00
Speaker 8: It's and I want to tell your listeners this first
• 18:02
  Speaker 8: and foremost. I am a I'm a positive campaigner, and
• 18:06
Speaker 8: you can go look at my social media right now.
• 18:08
Speaker 8: Every post I put up this year has been a
• 18:10
Speaker 8: positive post. It's about information I think voters need to
• 18:14
Speaker 8: know about. Or it's some lighthearted posts when I knock
• 18:16
Speaker 8: on doors. I'm a huge dog lover, so I'll post
• 18:18
Speaker 8: about dogs i've seen that day. I'll post about my family.
• 18:21
Speaker 8: I have not said one word about my opponent. I've
• 18:23
Speaker 8: run for office once before and I didn't put up
• 18:25
Speaker 8: negative you know, post or ads. Third party groups do
• 18:28
Speaker 8: that to both sides. But I didn't want to say
• 18:31
Speaker 8: a word about my opponent one reason. I mean, number one,
• 18:33
Speaker 8: I'm just not that kind of person. I don't negative campaign.
• 18:36
Speaker 8: But I've also known my opponent in this race, who
• 18:39
Speaker 8: Mike Pushkin, who issued that press release, picked a run
• 18:42
Speaker 8: against me. That's what she tells people. I've known her
• 18:45
Speaker 8: for twenty plus years. I didn't want to say a
• 18:47
Speaker 8: negative word about her. I know her wife, I know
• 18:49
Speaker 8: her wife's family. I used to play church softball with
• 18:51
Speaker 8: her wife's family. They were assaulted the Earth people. So
• 18:55
Speaker 8: I just wanted to run my campaign and focus on myself.
• 18:57
Speaker 8: She could run her campaign focus on herself. But she
• 18:59
Speaker 8: signed off this press release as well. She said a
• 19:02
Speaker 8: lot of hyper negative things about me before she's even
• 19:04
Speaker 8: built up a positive name for herself. So I want
• 19:08
Speaker 8: people to understand that this is not a Democrat versus
• 19:10
Speaker 8: a Republican thing for me. They issued the press release
• 19:12
Speaker 8: against me, they started I've got to respond to it
• 19:14
Speaker 8: because I have you and other media who've asked me
• 19:16
Speaker 8: to comment. So I have to say something. And you know, Dave,
• 19:20
Speaker 8: there's a difference here between the political class who run
• 19:23
Speaker 8: these things like these press releases versus average everyday voters.
• 19:26
Speaker 8: And this is across the board, Republicans and Democrats alike.
• 19:29
Speaker 8: So there's obviously lots of great, reasonable Democrats who I
• 19:34
Speaker 8: know they're with him own family. I've got families split
• 19:36
Speaker 8: politically and I love them all.
• 19:38
Speaker 3: You know, Larry Rowe.
• 19:39
Speaker 8: I want to pick someone who's not running in a
• 19:41
Speaker 8: current race because I don't like to get involved in
• 19:42
Speaker 8: the people's races. But Larry Row is not running for reelection.
• 19:45
Speaker 8: He's retiring from the House. He's a Democrat here in
• 19:47
Speaker 8: Kannall County. He is a super nice man like Politically,
• 19:51
Speaker 8: I disagree with him on some things fundamentally, but I've
• 19:54
Speaker 8: always told people that it's fine to disagree with someone
• 19:57
Speaker 8: looks like Larry and politics, but if you don't like
• 19:59
Speaker 8: Larry Rowe as a person, then you're the problem, not
• 20:01
Speaker 8: Larry Row. I mean, he is a genuinely good human being.
• 20:04
Speaker 8: So for me, this is not Democrat Republican. This is
• 20:08
Speaker 8: someone like Mike Pushkin, who is the political activist class
• 20:11
Speaker 8: and his candidate, who obviously thinks the same way he does,
• 20:14
Speaker 8: who are just hyper negative. And I don't think it's
• 20:18
Speaker 8: not I think, I know people don't like this kind
• 20:21
Speaker 8: of campaigning. The national level is a dumpster fire. We
• 20:25
Speaker 8: see it every day. I mean it's a dumpster fire. Locally,
• 20:29
Speaker 8: I think people want their local politicians because we see
• 20:32
Speaker 8: each other. I mean I see people in the grocery store,
• 20:35
Speaker 8: you know, I see people on a walk around downtown
• 20:37
Speaker 8: or if I go out in the county somewhere, so
• 20:39
Speaker 8: we're supposed to know one another, and I don't. Local
• 20:43
Speaker 8: voters don't want their local politicians to act like this
• 20:45
Speaker 8: and say these crazy things. This is just over the
• 20:48
Speaker 8: top stuff, and so I would have never responded to
• 20:52
Speaker 8: this or talked about my opponent until they did this first.
• 20:55
Speaker 8: And you know, it's just so goofy too, Dave, because
• 20:58
Speaker 8: when you say things like my it's said that I've
• 21:00
Speaker 8: aligned myselves with enemies of democracy. I mean that's a
• 21:03
Speaker 8: direct quote from the press release, enemies of Democracy. I mean,
• 21:07
Speaker 8: my first house was a trailer of my grandparents' property.
• 21:10
Speaker 8: You know, I grew up in a family that was
• 21:12
Speaker 8: blue collar. My wife is an awesome person who's a
• 21:16
Speaker 8: former longtime assistant prosecutor now a judge who's been elected
• 21:19
Speaker 8: twice in Kennall County. I've got family and kids here,
• 21:22
Speaker 8: my wife and I volunteery community, whre's regular people. And
• 21:24
Speaker 8: I've got someone who's trying to win a local house
• 21:27
Speaker 8: race who issues a press release and my opponent calls
• 21:29
Speaker 8: me an enemy of democracy. I mean, it's just ridiculous.
• 21:32
Speaker 8: So she wants to criticize policy, that's fine, fair game,
• 21:35
Speaker 8: but this hyper negative, like personal stuff and saying that
• 21:38
Speaker 8: I'm aligned like I'm Kremlin adjacent. Now I guess like
• 21:40
Speaker 8: I'm aligned somehow with with the Kremlin. It's just so goofy.
• 21:45
Speaker 3: What about the exact allegations though? About this case? What
• 21:48
Speaker 3: do you want to say about taking this case?
• 21:50
Speaker 8: Well, so the case is to me, it's important from
• 21:52
Speaker 8: the standpoint of and to me, it's not a political case.
• 21:54
Speaker 8: Some people will say that is. But I've grown increasingly
• 21:57
Speaker 8: frustrated as I've seen I've got real concerns about freedom
• 22:00
Speaker 8: of speech. Is using this country guys like you to
• 22:03
Speaker 8: have on any guests that you want. I mean, you
• 22:04
Speaker 8: have guests on your day if you don't agree with
• 22:06
Speaker 8: every day, I mean, yeah, maybe not today right not
• 22:10
Speaker 8: right now. But you know, I remember, you know, one
• 22:12
Speaker 8: high profile example, you had Don Blankenship on here more
• 22:15
Speaker 8: than once, I believe before time. Yeah, and you people
• 22:17
Speaker 8: like will say that your quote unquote platform for yeah,
• 22:20
Speaker 8: his views, and like, there's probably some things he says
• 22:22
Speaker 8: you may agree with. There's a lot of stuff he
• 22:23
Speaker 8: says you don't. But people should have a right to
• 22:27
Speaker 8: ask questions, which is what you do, and to have
• 22:30
Speaker 8: this stuff put out there for public consumption. Then the
• 22:32
Speaker 8: public gets to decide. I don't want the political class
• 22:34
Speaker 8: deciding who gets to say what and who gets to
• 22:36
Speaker 8: be heard. I want everyone to have as much information
• 22:38
Speaker 8: as possible. So the Timpoole case is an example where
• 22:41
Speaker 8: and this is a thing too. Tim Poole is also
• 22:43
Speaker 8: not a right wing extremist. That's a goofy thing.
• 22:45
  Speaker 3: To say this.
• 22:47
Speaker 8: He's really a guy who his views crossed the spectrum
• 22:50
Speaker 8: and he's literally He voted for Obama in two thousand
• 22:52
Speaker 8: and eight. He supported Bernie Sanders in twenty sixteen. He
• 22:55
Speaker 8: supports Trump now primarily over these freedom of speech issues.
• 22:58
Speaker 8: Because everyone Everyone may not know him, but he's got
• 23:01
Speaker 8: millions of subscribers on YouTube. He's a very successful internet personality.
• 23:05
Speaker 8: And what he does, Dave, is he does what you do.
• 23:08
Speaker 8: He interviews a wide range of people, some on the
• 23:11
Speaker 8: far left, some on the far right, some who are
• 23:13
Speaker 8: more in the middle. And you know, he's not endorsing
• 23:16
Speaker 8: people's views when he has him on his show, and
• 23:18
  Speaker 8: he's certainly not right wing. I mean, he's got a
• 23:20
Speaker 8: lot of views that are very far left. He's a
• 23:22
Speaker 8: hard guy to pigeonhole.
• 23:24
Speaker 3: So which most people are, by the way people are
• 23:27
Speaker 3: most normal people, Yes.
• 23:28
Speaker 8: Most people are nu onced, most people are complicated, and
• 23:31
Speaker 8: most people have views that are crossover party like there
• 23:33
Speaker 8: are Democrats who have some Republican beliefs and vice versa,
• 23:36
Speaker 8: and that's the way it's supposed to be. That's how
• 23:39
Speaker 8: most normal people are. So in the Pool case, the
• 23:41
Speaker 8: reason why I took it on was because, and I
• 23:44
Speaker 8: see this a lot, and it's really frustrating to me.
• 23:46
Speaker 8: Where he had one of his shows on YouTube. He
• 23:49
Speaker 8: was interviewing a guest and the guest is someone who
• 23:52
  Speaker 8: I don't know, but I looked her up afterwards. I'm
• 23:54
Speaker 8: not a huge fan of a lot of the things
• 23:55
Speaker 8: she said, but his guest was saying something and while
• 23:59
Speaker 8: Tim Poole was talking, and it's one of those things day.
• 24:00
Speaker 8: I think his show that that night was two or
• 24:02
Speaker 8: three hours long, so there was tons of discussion, and
• 24:06
Speaker 8: the Harris campaign took like a fifteen or thirty second
• 24:09
Speaker 8: clip where they cut everything out, like the hour before
• 24:12
Speaker 8: that and the hour or two after that clip, and
• 24:14
Speaker 8: they took it out of context and made it look
• 24:16
Speaker 8: like Tim Pole was endorsing something that he actually was against.
• 24:19
Speaker 8: Like there was one discussion during that little small clip
• 24:22
Speaker 8: where his guest said something about whether people who have
• 24:25
Speaker 8: committed treason or something like that should face the death penalty,
• 24:29
Speaker 8: and right after then the clip cuts off. The clip
• 24:31
Speaker 8: ends right there, so it looks like Tim Pole is
• 24:33
Speaker 8: somehow involved in that discussion and it agrees with that.
• 24:35
Speaker 8: Tim Pole says right afterwards that he's against that. I mean,
• 24:38
Speaker 8: he's been on a record many times saying he's against
• 24:40
Speaker 8: a death ponty for even the most egregious crimes. I mean,
• 24:43
Speaker 8: while he thinks murderer should go to prison, he doesn't
• 24:45
Speaker 8: believe in the death penalty at all for anyone. It's
• 24:47
Speaker 8: just something he's fundamentally opposed to. So the Harris campaign
• 24:50
Speaker 8: took something that he is actually against, made it look
• 24:53
Speaker 8: like he endorsed it, took his guest comments out of
• 24:56
Speaker 8: context to put them on Tim, and that's something I
• 24:59
Speaker 8: might a fan of. Like again, I think that it's
• 25:03
Speaker 8: fair to criticize people for what they actually say or believe.
• 25:06
Speaker 8: But the clip of Tim Poole is taking completely out
• 25:08
Speaker 8: of context, and I think he's got a legitimate claim.
• 25:10
Speaker 8: So I agreed to take it on. And I've got
• 25:12
Speaker 8: concerns about like your ability personally and anyone else who
• 25:15
Speaker 8: does this to be able to have people on their
• 25:17
Speaker 8: show and have free, wide ranging discussions to your listeners,
• 25:20
Speaker 8: actually know what people think and believe.
• 25:23
Speaker 3: Talking to Dell to get to jb Akers And look,
• 25:25
Speaker 3: I'm gonna go ahead and say I was not familiar
• 25:27
Speaker 3: with Tempoole. I'm not a big podcast kind of guy.
• 25:29
Speaker 3: Did a little research of this on my own either.
• 25:32
Speaker 3: But just like with every person, every normal people think,
• 25:34
Speaker 3: there are things you agree with and things that you
• 25:36
Speaker 3: certainly don't agree with. But did you have any any
• 25:39
Speaker 3: pause at all in taking this case and wondering if
• 25:43
Speaker 3: this is the right thing to do for your other
• 25:45
Speaker 3: job being in the House of Elegacy.
• 25:47
Speaker 8: Well, I mean I figured I would probably they would
• 25:50
Speaker 8: probably try to criticize me over this, But this is
• 25:52
Speaker 8: the thing too, I didn't promote this case. When I
• 25:53
Speaker 8: followed it, I sat back and I said, you know,
• 25:56
Speaker 8: let's see what they do with this and see if
• 25:57
Speaker 8: they come after me with it. And it's a public filing,
• 25:59
Speaker 8: so I know where could see it. It's kind of
• 26:01
Speaker 8: a you know, quote unquote high profile case for who's involved.
• 26:04
Speaker 8: But I also didn't promote it because I wanted to
• 26:07
Speaker 8: let them be the first ones to say something negative.
• 26:10
  Speaker 8: I didn't want to be that person. I don't ever
• 26:12
Speaker 8: want to do that.
• 26:12
  Speaker 10: Now.
• 26:13
Speaker 8: I'm going to respond if you come after me, I'm
• 26:15
Speaker 8: not going to take it. But they did come after me,
• 26:18
Speaker 8: and I think in a very stupid way. And let
• 26:19
Speaker 8: me say this, I have never said a negative word
• 26:21
Speaker 8: about Mike Christian personally. I've never got involved in his campaigns.
• 26:25
Speaker 8: I don't post about him. I've never messed with that
• 26:28
Speaker 8: guy publicly. He is an example why one of the
• 26:31
Speaker 8: prime examples now of why the Democrat Party in the
• 26:34
Speaker 8: state is struggling so badly. There are lots of good, regular,
• 26:37
Speaker 8: decent Democrat voters in West Virginia. The political class at
• 26:41
Speaker 8: the top is the problem, and these press releases like
• 26:45
Speaker 8: this that he issued are part of the problem because
• 26:48
Speaker 8: voters don't like this. They don't like this ridiculous rhetoric
• 26:51
Speaker 8: about anybody. So, you know, Mike's been the House of
• 26:54
Speaker 8: Delegates for ten years. What's happened to the Democrat Party
• 26:57
Speaker 8: in the past ten years. It's fallen off a cliff
• 26:59
Speaker 8: And I am willing to bet you. I'm willing to
• 27:02
Speaker 8: bet you that in November you're going to have and
• 27:06
Speaker 8: I'm not saying this to be you know, political, it's
• 27:08
Speaker 8: just what I'm looking at. I'm trying to figure out
• 27:10
Speaker 8: the numbers. There's a very good chance you're going to
• 27:12
Speaker 8: have even less Democrats in the House of Delegates in
• 27:14
Speaker 8: November that you do now, which is kind of hard
• 27:16
Speaker 8: to believe. There's only eleven now, and several of the
• 27:17
Speaker 8: people are good people, Dave. I mean, I saw them
• 27:20
Speaker 8: yesterday at the Capitol and went over and shook their hands,
• 27:22
Speaker 8: told them, hello, I talked to them. You know, we
• 27:25
Speaker 8: disagree on issues, but they're nice people. But there's probably
• 27:28
Speaker 8: gonna be less of them. And if there are less
• 27:30
Speaker 8: to them in November because of the stuff that people
• 27:33
Speaker 8: like Mike does as a state party share he's accountable
• 27:35
Speaker 8: for that. And frankly, I think if they lose members
• 27:39
Speaker 8: after this election, he should step aside and let someone
• 27:42
Speaker 8: who's more representative of the normal, everyday average Democrat let
• 27:45
Speaker 8: in the state speak for that party, because he doesn't
• 27:47
Speaker 8: speak for them. This is a terrible mistake he made.
• 27:49
Speaker 8: I now get to come on the radio and talk
• 27:52
Speaker 8: to you. You know, listeners and voters are listening to
• 27:54
Speaker 8: me today and the otherwise wouldn't. And he's also opened
• 27:57
Speaker 8: up his candidate he chose to run against me for
• 27:59
Speaker 8: attack because she has personally gone after me, which there's
• 28:02
Speaker 8: a written article on this in the Westernier Record as well,
• 28:04
Speaker 8: where I pointed out one thing she said was in
• 28:07
Speaker 8: her press release that she signed off on was I'll
• 28:10
Speaker 8: do anything to make a buck. It was one of
• 28:12
Speaker 8: the things she said. This is a woman I've known
• 28:14
Speaker 8: for over twenty years. She probably saw my kids get
• 28:16
Speaker 8: baptized in church because she and her wife used to
• 28:18
Speaker 8: go to the same church we go to, or we
• 28:19
Speaker 8: went to the church they go to. So these are
• 28:22
Speaker 8: people I know, and she says I'll do anything to
• 28:23
Speaker 8: make a buck. Dave, I used to work for a
• 28:25
Speaker 8: corporate firm the first five years of practice law. I
• 28:27
Speaker 8: switched him on office primarily because I was on the
• 28:29
Speaker 8: road so much. I want to be around my wife
• 28:31
Speaker 8: and kids as much as possible, so I did the
• 28:33
Speaker 8: exact opposite to be a better husband and father. I
• 28:37
Speaker 8: switched from a job where I probaly would have made
• 28:38
Speaker 8: more money in the long run to be around my
• 28:40
Speaker 8: family more. So, I did the opposite of trying to
• 28:42
Speaker 8: make a buck. Okay, I want to make money for
• 28:44
Speaker 8: my family, but I switched to a job where I
• 28:46
Speaker 8: probably will make less money long term, or I may
• 28:49
Speaker 8: to be with my family. I do lots of free
• 28:51
Speaker 8: work for people. I volunteer in a community. I'm not
• 28:54
Speaker 8: saying I'm a saint, but for this woman who's known
• 28:57
Speaker 8: me for this long to sign up for this press release,
• 28:58
Speaker 8: and I'm a horrible human being, basically enemy democracy. Local
• 29:03
Speaker 8: voters don't want to hear this stuff, Dave.
• 29:05
Speaker 3: They just don't talk about delicate JB. Acres. Are you
• 29:08
Speaker 3: okay with taking some texts because I've got some text here? Sure,
• 29:11
Speaker 3: one text's for delicate Acres. Why does the legislature continually
• 29:14
Speaker 3: disregard no normal processes, suspending constitutionalists rules and passing bills
• 29:19
Speaker 3: without due consideration? Also, how many jobs has Acred created
• 29:23
  Speaker 3: suing employers.
• 29:24
  Speaker 8: So that's a I think I was here once before
• 29:27
Speaker 8: and you got a question from someone.
• 29:28
Speaker 3: About what I do for a living, probably the same person.
• 29:31
Speaker 3: Probably it was it was after it like that.
• 29:32
Speaker 8: We just finished, you got the text on who this
• 29:35
Speaker 8: person is who was criticizing me for being a lawyer.
• 29:39
Speaker 8: And again, I worked for a corporate firm for five years. Uh,
• 29:42
Speaker 8: and I left it because I was on the road
• 29:44
Speaker 8: so much. And when you're a solo practitioner like I am,
• 29:46
Speaker 8: you're primarily going to be involved in work on the
• 29:49
Speaker 8: plaintiff side. And this person who texted you doesn't know
• 29:53
Speaker 8: what I really do. And I represent a lot of
• 29:56
Speaker 8: small businesses for example, like one of my clients I
• 29:58
Speaker 8: recently fought a case for was for a Western me
• 30:00
Speaker 8: a small business who has gotten hosed by a large
• 30:03
Speaker 8: out of state business. So I do represent individuals. I
• 30:06
Speaker 8: represent small businesses. Most people need help. Bad things do
• 30:10
Speaker 8: happen to regular people sometimes. But I'm also like I've
• 30:15
Speaker 8: gotten the endorsement Dave of the Business Industry Council, the
• 30:18
Speaker 8: Manufacturers Association, the Western and Chamber of Commerce because I'm
• 30:21
Speaker 8: a reasonable person on these issues. I don't go around
• 30:23
Speaker 8: saying one side is good and one side's bad. Both
• 30:25
Speaker 8: sides have a point to make. People deserve to have
• 30:28
Speaker 8: their day in court, and they have a dispute, and
• 30:29
Speaker 8: that's a thing too. When my opponent, Mike said this
• 30:32
Speaker 8: press release that I'm align myself with enemies of democracy,
• 30:35
Speaker 8: I'm doing air quotes on the radio. You know, I
• 30:37
Speaker 8: filed a case in federal court Dave where a federal
• 30:40
Speaker 8: judge and a federal jury are going to decide whether
• 30:42
Speaker 8: I'm right or I'm wrong, or whether my client's right
• 30:44
Speaker 8: or wrong. That's part of the normal democratic process or
• 30:47
Speaker 8: democratic process, is We're using an institution in this country
• 30:51
Speaker 8: to resolve a dispute peacefully. And I'm not out there
• 30:55
Speaker 8: issue and press releases about it. I'm just letting a
• 30:57
Speaker 8: court decide what my client's fad is, which is the
• 30:59
Speaker 8: way it's supposed to work in a peaceful civil society. So,
• 31:02
Speaker 8: whoever your texture was, I'm proud of what I do.
• 31:04
Speaker 8: I represent a lot of good everyday West Virginia's These
• 31:06
Speaker 8: are the same people who vote in our elections. These
• 31:08
Speaker 8: are my clients. So whoever the texture was, my clients
• 31:12
Speaker 8: are the voters and vice versa, and I'm proud to
• 31:14
Speaker 8: represent them positive Texas.
• 31:17
Speaker 3: Positive campaigners usually have something to hide. Don't have to
• 31:19
Speaker 3: say a negative word about or just defend the fact
• 31:21
Speaker 3: that you're defending the holy awful person. You're part of
• 31:24
Speaker 3: the political class as a texture.
• 31:25
  Speaker 8: Yeah, well, I mean, I guess I'm officially a politician's
• 31:28
  Speaker 8: and someone office.
• 31:29
Speaker 3: All you guys, not you particularly, always say I'm not
• 31:32
Speaker 3: a politician, But once you sign your name on the
• 31:34
Speaker 3: dotted line, you are a politician as soon as you're
• 31:36
Speaker 3: run yours, So yeah, exactly.
• 31:37
Speaker 8: I mean, listen, I've run twice and the last time
• 31:39
Speaker 8: I ran, people came in with a microscope looking up
• 31:42
Speaker 8: stuff on me and they found nothing because there's nothing
• 31:44
Speaker 8: nothing to find. I mean, I mean, what am I
• 31:46
Speaker 8: supposed to do? Da if someone criticized them me for
• 31:47
Speaker 8: being a positive campaigner and they say I've got something
• 31:50
Speaker 8: to hide? I mean, I mean that is I mean again,
• 31:52
Speaker 8: no thing that says.
• 31:53
Speaker 3: If I could interrupt you, I think that statement right there,
• 31:55
Speaker 3: this is my opinion, not yours. I'm not speaking for you.
• 31:57
Speaker 3: That says where we are right now as a society.
• 32:00
Speaker 3: Yeah that, if you are a positive campaigner, it means
• 32:03
Speaker 3: you have That's the most asinine bs I've ever heard
• 32:06
Speaker 3: in my entire life. Sorry, texture trying to be respectful,
• 32:08
  Speaker 3: but that's just that's a little crap. I'm sorry.
• 32:10
Speaker 8: Yeah, I invite that. Listen again. My wife and I
• 32:12
Speaker 8: are regular members of this community. We've done everything we
• 32:14
Speaker 8: can to be helpful to the people who live here.
• 32:16
Speaker 8: We know lots of people. We coach our kids teams
• 32:18
Speaker 8: when they're grown up. You know, my wife's team mom
• 32:21
Speaker 8: for the kids' teams. I mean, we do everything we
• 32:22
Speaker 8: can to be part of the community. And if you
• 32:24
Speaker 8: think you can find something negative on me, I'm hiding
• 32:26
Speaker 8: and then you fire away because there is nothing.
• 32:28
  Speaker 3: I mean.
• 32:28
Speaker 8: You might disagree with my policies and my opinions on issues,
• 32:30
Speaker 8: but you know, do you prefer that ID be a
• 32:32
Speaker 8: negative campaigner and that proves I have I don't have something?
• 32:35
  Speaker 8: I mean, that's just goofy. I mean, I'm a positive
• 32:37
Speaker 8: person and part of that, Dave, is my upbringing. My
• 32:39
Speaker 8: parents were super hard workers. We had very little when
• 32:42
Speaker 8: I was grown up, and I saw that they were
• 32:44
Speaker 8: able to give me a better life thro your hard work,
• 32:46
Speaker 8: and it's given me an optimism in life. So I'm
• 32:48
Speaker 8: just an optimistic, compositive person by nature, and I would
• 32:51
Speaker 8: prefer to keep our politics that way as much as
• 32:53
  Speaker 8: we can.
• 32:54
Speaker 3: Somebody I had actually had a couple of texts here,
• 32:55
Speaker 3: and I'll let you go because Brad's calling right now.
• 32:58
Speaker 3: I think we had a couple of textus would be
• 33:00
Speaker 3: people said, what about Trump and the way Trump campaigns?
• 33:03
Speaker 3: You align yourself with that.
• 33:05
Speaker 8: I mean, listen to a lot of these policies. I
• 33:08
Speaker 8: like economic stuff, I like a lot of that. But
• 33:10
Speaker 8: when he just unsolicited attacks people, No, Dave, I'm not
• 33:13
Speaker 8: a huge fan of that. Now, if he fights back
• 33:15
Speaker 8: against an attack, then you know, you can do that
• 33:17
Speaker 8: in ways that I think sometimes are appropriate. But if
• 33:19
Speaker 8: he just for no reason appears to like go out
• 33:22
Speaker 8: and attack somebody, and you know, if there's the people
• 33:25
Speaker 8: on the maybe his hardcore base, who don't want to
• 33:27
Speaker 8: criticize him, hitt all, that's fine.
• 33:30
  Speaker 3: I get it.
• 33:30
Speaker 8: But if he just has an unsolicit attack, which he
• 33:32
Speaker 8: does do sometimes, no, I don't like that. And listen,
• 33:35
Speaker 8: look at my social media and see what I do.
• 33:37
  Speaker 8: I don't do that to people, Okay, I don't. I
• 33:39
Speaker 8: put up positive stuff and try to try to solve
• 33:41
Speaker 8: issues and challenges in cooperation with people. That's that's the
• 33:44
Speaker 8: way I do things.
• 33:46
Speaker 3: Akers. I appreciate you being here.

• 36:49

• 37:02

• 37:04
  Speaker 3: Were you listening?
• 37:04
Speaker 14: Brand Oh, I'm afraid to say I missed it, but
• 37:08
Speaker 14: I bet it was valuable and I can go back
• 37:10
Speaker 14: on the podcast and learn a few things from Delegate Acres.
• 37:13
Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, that's one that you probably definitely want to
• 37:16
Speaker 3: go back and listen to. All right, let's talk about
• 37:18
Speaker 3: the special session yesterday. My theory is is that they
• 37:21
Speaker 3: didn't park in their normal legislative parking spots. They just
• 37:25
Speaker 3: fed the meter and all their meters were running out,
• 37:27
Speaker 3: and they wanted to get out of the capital as
• 37:29
  Speaker 3: quickly as possible.
• 37:29
Speaker 14: Your thought, Oh, that is smart.
• 37:32
  Speaker 12: Yeah, so.
• 37:37
Speaker 14: It seems like the most inefficient way of going about
• 37:41
Speaker 14: this possible. So for some reason, lawmakers like to have
• 37:49
Speaker 14: a special session during regularly scheduled inter meetings because you
• 37:54
Speaker 14: know they're already going to be there. You avoid the
• 37:56
Speaker 14: criticism of being a thirty five thousand dollars a day cost,
• 38:01
Speaker 14: particularly if you don't necessarily know the outcome or where
• 38:04
Speaker 14: you're going on the legislation within a special session. But
• 38:09
Speaker 14: Governor Justice split the uprights. There was a special session
• 38:13
Speaker 14: in Parkersburg last month about the time he called this one.
• 38:17
  Speaker 14: There's a there's a there's a sorry, there were inter meetings,
• 38:20
Speaker 14: there's there's a set of inter meetings coming up just
• 38:24
Speaker 14: this coming weekend. But he decided that he would pop
• 38:28
Speaker 14: this right in on a Monday, the last day of September,
• 38:32
Speaker 14: and with an unsettled matter at the centerpiece is this
• 38:37
Speaker 14: five percent tax cut lawmakers still although it's been discussed
• 38:42
Speaker 14: since the beginning of July, lawmakers still unsettled them whether
• 38:47
Speaker 14: it's wise or possible given state finances. And so lawmakers
• 38:53
Speaker 14: were in for a few hours and then maybe it
• 38:58
Speaker 14: met you for lunch or did.
• 39:00
Speaker 3: I don't know what they did, but we'll talking to
• 39:02
Speaker 3: Brad talking to jb Acres off the air. I just
• 39:05
Speaker 3: asked him as he came up for the interview about
• 39:07
Speaker 3: the session and he said it was pretty much what
• 39:09
Speaker 3: he expected because and others delegates and other alleged letters
• 39:12
Speaker 3: have said this too, because he said, we didn't even
• 39:14
Speaker 3: get any information on it until the very last minute.
• 39:17
Speaker 3: That was his words.
• 39:18
Speaker 4: What a way to run a railroad.
• 39:20
Speaker 14: Yeah, so it's got twenty some bills overall to consider,
• 39:26
Speaker 14: and they're spending the public's dollars even on the supplemental appropriations.
• 39:30
Speaker 14: So to me, spending any public dollars is a significant responsibility.
• 39:37
Speaker 14: But they got a menu essentially Saturday evening late, and
• 39:41
Speaker 14: then we're expected to be around beginning eleven am Monday
• 39:45
Speaker 14: making decisions, and they didn't make final decisions on six
• 39:50
Speaker 14: supplemental appropriations, and then you know, hit pies and pints
• 39:56
Speaker 14: or whatever went home. I'm not sure what they did.
• 39:59
Speaker 3: The quote of the day, Brad, came from Senator Mike Woffle,
• 40:01
Speaker 3: who Hoppy had on talk line yesterday, who said, I
• 40:04
Speaker 3: have no clue why we are here. That was Senator
• 40:07
Speaker 3: Wolfele on Hoppy yesterday.
• 40:09
Speaker 14: Uh, you know, I think that may be bipartisan sentiment possibly,
• 40:14
Speaker 14: And Hoppy was in kind of a mood yesterday too. Honestly,
• 40:18
  Speaker 14: I heard.
• 40:19
Speaker 3: Bits and pieces of the show I like my like
• 40:21
Speaker 3: what you said about mind of you. I need to
• 40:22
Speaker 3: go back and listen to the whole thing, because I
• 40:24
Speaker 3: was working and I was only hearing bits and pieces.
• 40:26
Speaker 3: But hoppy wasn't a bit of a mood yesterday, as.
• 40:29
Speaker 14: You said, Well, I mean, it's just it's so unsettled,
• 40:32
Speaker 14: and the governor wants lawmakers to make a significant decision,
• 40:37
Speaker 14: several of them, but it feels like it's half baked
• 40:42
Speaker 14: at most. So happy was feeling it yesterday. He had
• 40:47
Speaker 14: three segments about the special session. He had Senator Mike
• 40:52
Speaker 14: Oliverio or Republican from Montagueo County, Senator Mike Waffle, two
• 40:58
Speaker 14: of the many mics in the Senate. Yeah, wal Full,
• 41:01
Speaker 14: a Democrat from Cavill County, and then me I was
• 41:04
Speaker 14: I was third, And by the time I came up,
• 41:06
Speaker 14: we had already determined that expectations should be very low
• 41:10
Speaker 14: about the day of the special session what was going
• 41:14
  Speaker 14: to be accomplished.
• 41:14
Speaker 3: So actually lasted longer than the special session, Dad, I.
• 41:18
Speaker 14: Think, yes, Well, you know, even when you're not getting
• 41:24
Speaker 14: much done, you still got to gabble in and there's
• 41:26
Speaker 14: two chambers to deal with. The House. Actually again in
• 41:30
Speaker 14: the area of responsibility. They broke into committees. The Education
• 41:35
Speaker 14: Committee met and the Finance Committee met. It wasn't exciting,
• 41:38
Speaker 14: so I'm not going to reveal the listeners with what happened.
• 41:40
Speaker 14: But if you're treating these things in a responsible manner,
• 41:45
  Speaker 14: that's that's.
• 41:46
  Speaker 2: What you do.
• 41:46
Speaker 14: So it did drag out for a little bit, but
• 41:51
Speaker 14: in the end not much. Really decided six supplemental appropriations
• 41:55
Speaker 14: again and then otherwise coming back Sunday to deal with
• 42:00
Speaker 14: the rest. But if there's any cliffhanger to this, really,
• 42:04
Speaker 14: I don't know if, particularly the centerpiece of the whole thing,
• 42:08
Speaker 14: the governor's proposed five percent additional income tax cut. I
• 42:13
Speaker 14: don't know if that just fizzles at this point, or
• 42:15
Speaker 14: if somebody comes through with a creative idea, a breakthrough
• 42:19
Speaker 14: that would make everybody feel like, all right, yeah, we
• 42:21
Speaker 14: can afford this. It's about one hundred and ten million dollars.
• 42:25
Speaker 14: What even fiscal conservatives like Senate Finance Chairman Eric tar
• 42:30
Speaker 14: have wanted is to know that West Virginia is truly
• 42:34
Speaker 14: going to be able to balance the budget as it's
• 42:36
Speaker 14: constitutionally required to do. But there is no such guarantee
• 42:41
Speaker 14: at the moment. It's just just a feel, just a
• 42:43
Speaker 14: gut feeling. So if somebody comes up with something solid
• 42:47
Speaker 14: by Sunday, then you know, maybe there will be a
• 42:49
Speaker 14: break breakthrough. But otherwise, you know, looking at your Las
• 42:52
Speaker 14: Vegas betting boards very well, could fizzle.
• 42:55
Speaker 3: Give me thirty seconds for excitment. That's that's fine, Give
• 42:58
Speaker 3: me thirty seconds on The governor has a presser today,
• 43:00
  Speaker 3: does he not?
• 43:02
Speaker 14: He does at twelve thirty, So a couple of things.
• 43:05
Speaker 14: There will be a monthly revenue report today, how we
• 43:10
Speaker 14: did in September. If it's bad, that will be the
• 43:13
Speaker 14: third month of a row three mixed trend. And I
• 43:15
Speaker 14: would greatly reduce the odds of getting that tax cut through.
• 43:19
Speaker 14: But I think that the main topic of the Governor's
• 43:23
Speaker 14: briefing will likely be the possibility of this tax cut
• 43:28
  Speaker 14: going through.
• 43:28
Speaker 3: All right, I know you'll be watching, Brad. I appreciate
• 43:30
Speaker 3: you being here, man, Thanks a lot.
• 43:32
Speaker 14: Hey thinks safe Texas.
• 43:33
Speaker 3: Can we get jb Aker to defend the statement of
• 43:35
Speaker 3: Tim Pole's editor Cassandra McDonald that Israel is a terrorist state,
• 43:39
Speaker 3: or her statement that it would be nice if Lebanon
• 43:42
Speaker 3: had the right to assassinate net and Yahoo Texas. I
• 43:45
Speaker 3: bet JB supports Trump. He attacks anyone, veterans, disabled, races
• 43:49
Speaker 3: every day, and you support this Texas the process joy
• 43:55
Speaker 3: and love. But if you're a positive person, you're bad.
• 43:57
Speaker 3: And then they send me an emoji of someone scratching
• 43:59
Speaker 3: their head. Texas, let's not forget. Trump is outright lying
• 44:02
Speaker 3: about the lack of emergency response in western North Carolina.
• 44:05
Speaker 3: Trump is lying about Democrats not helping Republican areas in
• 44:08
Speaker 3: North Carolina. Trump was surprised a hurricane that strong struck
• 44:12
Speaker 3: during peak hurricane season, and Trump supporters get upset when
• 44:14
Speaker 3: they're called stupid. Let me just say something about that. Okay,
• 44:18
Speaker 3: you want to find out how to greatly shrink your
• 44:21
Speaker 3: friends list and your followers. On Facebook last night there
• 44:24
Speaker 3: was a photo floating around obviously fake AI of former
• 44:30
Speaker 3: President Trump wading through water with a life jacket on.
• 44:34
  Speaker 3: It's obviously fake, okay, it's I mean, a third grader
• 44:37
Speaker 3: could tell it was fake. A couple of people posted.
• 44:40
Speaker 3: I simply comment and said, this photo is fake. And
• 44:43
Speaker 3: now it's like I'm killing kittens, you know, because because
• 44:47
Speaker 3: I pointed out that, it will say the photo was fake. Folks,
• 44:50
Speaker 3: it was fake and my friends and followers. Litt shrunk
• 44:54
Speaker 3: by about half because of that. The Dave Island Show

• 47:43
Speaker 3: learned we were all shocked learn of the death of
• 47:45
Speaker 3: Pete Rose. I mean, he was eighty three, I think,
• 47:47
Speaker 3: but just one of the guys that you can't ever
• 47:49
Speaker 3: imagine leaving us. He just seems so much, you know,
• 47:52
Speaker 3: larger than life. He did pass it his home in Vegas,
• 47:55
Speaker 3: found dead by a family member. His death revealed to
• 47:58
Speaker 3: believe to be of natural cast of two guys, maybe
• 48:01
Speaker 3: maybe the biggest Reds fan I know next to the
• 48:03
Speaker 3: guy we call Wolfie Brian Bradley in this building. Jeff
• 48:06
Speaker 3: jenkins Dale, Cooper, Jeff and Coop. Good morning if you
• 48:09
Speaker 3: are Red fans of a certain age. Jeff being slightly
• 48:12
Speaker 3: older than Cooper myself and I'm older than Coop. Uh
• 48:15
Speaker 3: Pee Rose. Jeff just seemed like one of those guys
• 48:17
Speaker 3: that would live forever.
• 48:18
Speaker 15: Yeah, I mean sure, I mean he was he you know,
• 48:22
Speaker 15: as I was growing up, he was, you know, the
• 48:24
Speaker 15: big Red machine. I mean and now you know you
• 48:27
Speaker 15: had Pete, you had Joe Morgan, you had Johnny Bench,
• 48:29
Speaker 15: you had Tony Perez, I mean great stars, but uh,
• 48:34
Speaker 15: Pete was Pete was kind of the he was kind
• 48:38
Speaker 15: of the igniter, yeah, right, leadoff set the attitude. When
• 48:43
Speaker 15: he walked, he ran the first base. He did not
• 48:46
Speaker 15: walk to first base.
• 48:47
Speaker 3: Which angered a lot of the old times.
• 48:48
Speaker 15: Oh yeah, and when when when he when he caught
• 48:51
Speaker 15: a ball, uh, he would spike the ball into the
• 48:54
  Speaker 15: into the turf.
• 48:56
  Speaker 3: Games.
• 48:57
Speaker 15: Yeah, his friend who had had dinner with the night
• 48:59
Speaker 15: before Alls. Yeah, yeah, in the seventy All Star Game. Yeah,
• 49:03
Speaker 15: so yeah, he was. I was thinking about this. You know,
• 49:07
Speaker 15: he was a player that you talk about this, you
• 49:10
Speaker 15: kind of threw this around, but he was. He was
• 49:12
Speaker 15: a player that got every bit of his talent. I
• 49:15
Speaker 15: mean he got out of it, every bit, every bit
• 49:18
Speaker 15: of it because you would look at him and you
• 49:20
Speaker 15: was now he was stoutly built, right, but he got
• 49:23
Speaker 15: every bit out of his talent.
• 49:24
Speaker 3: What's your favorite Pete Rose memory?
• 49:26
Speaker 16: But the interesting thing with me as becoming a Reds fan,
• 49:29
Speaker 16: as being I was born in seventy four, so I
• 49:32
Speaker 16: came into baseball awareness. Really it was when Pete Rose
• 49:35
Speaker 16: was traded to the Phillies. What was that seventy eight?
• 49:37
Speaker 16: I think free agency, yeah, or I mean free agency.
• 49:39
Speaker 16: He went to the Phillies in seventy eight, and I
• 49:41
Speaker 16: remember watching like I knew about Pete Rose and the
• 49:45
Speaker 16: Reds a little bit, as like a four or five
• 49:47
Speaker 16: year like I have just a little bit of a memory.
• 49:49
Speaker 16: But my first solid memory was a little black and
• 49:53
Speaker 16: white TV in my mom and dad's bedroom watching there
• 49:56
Speaker 16: was like a CBS, ABC Game of the Week, whatever,
• 49:58
Speaker 16: it was. It was like a primetime game on it
• 50:00
Speaker 16: in the evening. If I remember correctly, This could be wrong,
• 50:02
Speaker 16: but anyway, I think it was Pete Rose's first game
• 50:05
Speaker 16: or first series, opening up the season with the Phillies,
• 50:08
Speaker 16: and I remember sitting and watching it and my dad's
• 50:10
Speaker 16: sort of like low key grumbling about with the Phillies now,
• 50:13
Speaker 16: you know, all this type. I sort of watched it
• 50:15
Speaker 16: and I remember that. But it was interesting for me
• 50:17
Speaker 16: because Pete Rose was more of an entry into baseball.
• 50:20
Speaker 16: So he's the reason and sort of the fandom and
• 50:23
Speaker 16: the fanfare around him was sort of my entry into baseball.
• 50:27
Speaker 16: But there was a time in like the early eighties
• 50:29
Speaker 16: that my favorite Reds player, Like if you would have
• 50:31
Speaker 16: pulled me before like Larkin and Davis and those guys
• 50:34
Speaker 16: came around, I would have been like Herm Whittingham, you know,
• 50:36
Speaker 16: like it wouldn't have necessarily been Pete Rose at that
• 50:38
Speaker 16: point in time because I was a little young. He
• 50:40
Speaker 16: was my entry into it, but it wasn't until later
• 50:42
Speaker 16: that I kind of backfilled my fandom.
• 50:44
Speaker 15: Yeah, he wasn't my favorite player, obviously, I liked him.
• 50:47
Speaker 15: I liked it the Reds one, but like Johnny Bench.
• 50:49
Speaker 15: I think if you were to, you know, Johnny probably
• 50:52
Speaker 15: say that probably my favorite player.
• 50:55
Speaker 3: Guys. I gotta cut it short. I appreciate you being here,
• 50:57
Speaker 3: but I did want to throw this in there. Jeff,
• 50:59
Speaker 3: congratulations on being inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame.

Speaker 3: Tonight A Huntings and two of our folks are going in,

• 51:07
Speaker 3: I will say this. It is an honor for our

Speaker 3: it's a pleasure walking in this building every day, knowing
• 51:16
Speaker 3: and seeing your vehicle in a parking lot when I
• 51:17
Speaker 3: come in, because it never leaves. That's one of the
• 51:19
Speaker 3: reasons why. But Jeff, congratulations, great honor. Will see tonight
• 51:22
Speaker 3: and we've got a parking boot on it. That's what
• 51:25
Speaker 3: it is, all right, guys. I appreciate you both being here.

Speaker 3: the question why would Trump be doing this? If they

Speaker 3: Who said to me, yes, but it's the symbolism behind it.
