The morning Mindbender, Mindy's Minute with Alanis Morissette, is releasing a holiday album, How about a Feel Good Story About a Baby Being Born at Our Very Own Brevard Zoo. Do you doom scroll? My mom does. I do too, I have to admit. That's what's trending right now on how to stop it. Upcoming local events, and I learned a valuable lesson at work. Not saying that I'm older. I'm just saying you're never too old to learn a valuable lesson. That story's coming up. Please follow me on Instagram @mindylevy and on Facebook @mindylevy And subscribe to my YouTube channel called @MindysMinutePodcast when you get a chance. And if you're just joining us for the first time, basically, so my Radio show that just went into a podcast. All your favorite features in twenty minutes or less. Depends how much I talk. Now let's get to the top three things you need to know. Our Florida CFO says he wants to give you money, and it's your money. He just announced a new website to help us Floridians claim abandoned property. He says one in five Floridians have abandoned property. The website is claimyourcashfl.gov. I went on the site and my husband's name popped up. I guess we're gonna be discussing this after the podcast. That website again is claimyourcashfl.gov. The Brevard County Commission voted last week to ask the Central Florida Expressway Authority to study adding tolls on the St. John's Heritage Parkway. The 20 mile road will run from West Melbourne to I-95 In Micco the city of Palm Bay estimates it could cost $400 million to buy the land and build the road. Public input will be part of the study. That's a debate. They're gonna be asking you about it, be honest, because that's gonna be a big debate. Two Florida cities are on the list of the top three most fun in America from Wallet Hub. Orlando locked down, the number two spot behind Las Vegas, while Miami came in third place nationwide. Fort Lauderdale and Tampa ranked fifth. fifteenth and sixteenth. The only thing I can say I like going to Tampa. the restaurants, the pastries, the bakeries, Busch Gardens The problem is driving there. Living on Merritt Island, taking 528. As soon as you get onto I-4, you know, the Mickey Mouse ears, Champions Gate. It's the worst. There's nothing ever there but just traffic. And that adds like another hour to your drive trying to get to Tampa. Today is National Voter Registration Day, National Cherries Jubilee Day, and National Mofongo Day. It's made from mashed Plantains, garlic, pork cracklings, or we know it is chicharón, and seasonings, a delicious dish from Puerto Rico. my mom's from Colombia, but I actually bought the ingredients this week so that I can try it this weekend and serve it to my husband. I think it's gonna be delicious. And that's the top three things you need to know. Coming up, I learned a valuable lesson at my age. You know what? You're never too old to learn a lesson. And boy did I at work. Let's get to that conversation. So at my new job, have a lot of people there. So, you know, we're all trying to get to know each other. And I I get home on when was this? I want to say Friday night. I get home Friday night. And you know, my husband and I are about to watch a movie, so I just went through my emails and some texting and things like that. And I was looking at some pictures. I said to myself, I didn't take this picture. Or did I? It was two of my coworkers. One of them is an instigator. That's all I'm gonna say. He likes to stir the pot. And boy did he because he got the other coworker to take the picture with him. So apparently I left my phone on my desk and went out to do some stuff and it came back. And the valuable lesson when I sent them an email, like, Did you guys take a picture of yourself on my phone? The valuable lesson was never leave your phone unlocked. And that is at work, at home, at your job, wherever you go. Do not leave your phone unlocked. Thank goodness it wasn't another picture someone told me like you're lucky. I don't know if that's Luck or not. But yes, it shocked me because being in radio for 26 years here in Brevard County, no one's touched my phone unless I asked them to take a picture. And just a couple of months, and here I am in a new job. And the people I trust taking my phone and taking their own picture, and it saying, That's a valuable lesson. Never leave your phone unlocked. Always lock your phone no matter where you're at. See, I learned a lesson. Now I don't trust people at work. I don't know if that's the lesson, but no, I hide everything now. Are you ready for the morning mind bender? Yep, here we go. Here's your question. we're gonna give you shout-outs. Let's do that first. So last week's question Which beverage did Roosevelt refer to as good to the last drop? The answer? Coffee. Specifically Maxwell House Coffee. And I want to give shout-outs to our winners for bragging and Rights here in Brevard County. Laurie Yasmine, Charlie, Bridget, and Jessica. Thank you so much for answering it. And if you do answer the question this week, you know, and you put it in the comments, we'll give you shout-outs on the next episode of our podcast. So the question this week. What 1980s arcade game was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful coin operated game in 2005. Now I'm gonna take you back to the 80s. the song came out between 81 and 80 and 81. Do you remember this? Bump bump fever driving me crazy. There was actually a song for this. That's part of the answer. Bump bump fever. So okay, so if you know the Answer to today's morning mindbender question. Here it is again. What 1980s arcade game was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records as the most successful coin-operated game in 2005? Know the answer? Post it in the comments. And you can post it on Instagram @mindyonair or on Facebook @mindylevy Coming up, Mindy's Minute. All the entertainment you need for the week. Let's kick that off. Madonna is set to open the MTV Video Music Awards. It's funny when they say video, because when's the last time they played a video? With her first live performance at the show in 23 years, Madonna leads this year's awards with 11 nominations, including Video of the Year and Artist of the Year. The VMAs will take place on September 27th. Garth Brooks is adding a third show in Orlando on his Blame It All on My Roots tour. The first two shows at the Kia Center sold out, leading Brooks to add another date. And it's gonna be on Sunday, September 27th. Garth! Just stay the week. You are in Orlando. You might as well have a good time with us. And if you happen to have two extra tickets for person that used to be on the air, but now works for the Sheriff's Department and now has her own podcast, I'll take it. I'll give you your review on my next podcast. Just saying. Alanis Morissette is releasing a holiday album this year. She said it'll feature a collaboration with actor Martin Short. The two will perform a version of a Judy Garland classic. The holiday album will feature new and original songs like Christmas on the Dance Floor. Boston. I love the band Boston. Celebrating the 50th anniversary edition of their debut album, Boston next year. Who doesn't love Amanda? Smokin'. Love it. And Party. That's if you ha I have the best of Boston. I played it so much on the CD player in my car. Yeah, C D player in my car. That my husband had to actually try to get it out because I jammed it in there so much and I played it so much it got stuck in the C D player. If that's an album, then be stuck in your car, that is. And that's a road trip album. You can start it from finish to end and sing all the way where you need to be. love the band Boston. And that's it for Mindy's Minute. Next, topic of the day. What's your driving pet peeves here on the Space Coast? We want to know. I'll tell you my story, and we want to hear from you too. Story goes like this. So I used to drive from Merritt Island super early in the morning, and I used to take Tropical Trail, Pineda Causeway, do the turn, take US one, go all the way to Melbourne, right? When you're in the morning, five o'clock in the morning, nobody's on the road. Coming home, that's another story. So now I drive the opposite way. I take Courtenay, 528, westbound. And right when people are trying to get on five twenty eight West and I'm trying to get off of Industry Road, it goes like go it goes right into each other, like this. So either you have to go super fast or super slow. Because you're trying to get over to Industry Road while they're trying to get to 528 and you're i It's the worst intersection. I don't even know if you call it intersection. And people don't know what yield means at all. And that's coming home when you're taking 528 eastbound and then US1 and Cocoa merging in. And you know, you're supposed to merge and yield. So you kind of have to do the same thing at the same time. Those are my worst intersections, especially now. So we want you to post your traffic nightmare intersections. Is it. Palm Bay Road, Babcock, maybe 192 with those bumpers on the side. Wickham Road has always been awful. Pineda Causeway turning into US1. Suntree that's a good one, the Suntree Boulevard. So tell us your traffic nightmares, post it in the comments, and we'll see if everybody agrees when you post it there. Coming up next, what's trending? How to stop your teens or your mom from doom scrolling. I have to admit, I do it too. That is our trending topic today. So a new study says: flashing mental health alerts directly on social media stops teenagers from doom scrolling. Researchers showed over a thousand teenagers with several different pop-ups. Within the app, then ask them how much each one would discourage them from using it. The more sharp the pop-up warnings about depression and anxiety work the best. Beating out those little gentle reminders to take, you know, time away from the screen time, like taking a break. That doesn't work. The big pop-ups actually stop it. So my mom loves Doom Scrolling and she Doom scrolls like celebrities and then she doom scrolls dogs dancing or cats dancing. And I'm trying to tell her that because she's doom scrolling, she'll go to the next one and the next one and the next one. And you're in there for a couple hours. I have to admit I do it too. But my doom scrolling is always about the soldiers coming home and either surprising their kids at school or surprising their mom at work. And those get me all the time. So my husband's like, What are doing? Why are you crying? I go, Because they came home. The soldiers are crying. But what gets me is when the soldiers come home and they open the door and the dog The dogs are smelling them and trying to recognize them. And then when they realize, you know, it's their master or it, you know, it's their pet parent, they jump into their arms. I love Doom Scrolling. I mean, for hours I'll be looking at those. I just love them. I think they're amazing. But to stop Doom Scrolling, big pop-up saying you need to be off the screen. Local events. That's what's coming up Next. From a free family day to taking a pumpkin plunge. I like to talk about local events that are free, but there's one that is worth paying the five dollars for. So we're gonna get to that list here in just a few seconds. But first I want to thank you for choosing me to MC the Reach for the Stars Gala. Take stock in children in Brevard County. I did it last Saturday night and we raised so much money and I think we hit our goal. It was the first time I actually MC'd the event. It was so Much fun and getting these kids raising money for the kids to get scholarships to go to college is just amazing. We heard stories from people who were in the program. We had a lot of sponsors and people out there doing raffles. We did this game called Heads or Tails loved it. First time I even saw it. So much fun. But thank you guys for allowing me to MC it and raise money for these kids to go to college here in Brevard County. That was amazing. So let's talk about some events. this Saturday, September 26th, is the walk to end to Alzheimer's. That's gonna be the Space Coast one at 8 a.m. at Cocoa Riverfront Park. Green Gables Harvest Festival from 9 to 3 p.m., and that's on South Harbor City Boulevard in Melbourne. They're gonna have over 45 vendors, music, and children's activities. Grace Church of Melbourne is having a fun-filled family day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They're going to have snow cones, popcorn, games, bounce houses. They want you to wear your superhero costumes. That'll be fun. That's on Minton Road in West Melbourne. And this one is gonna cost you, but this is gonna be worth it. They're gonna have a spooktacular evening at the Palm Bay Aquatic Center during their pumpkin plunge. Kids ages 4 to 12 can make a splash in their floating pumpkin patch and choose a pumpkin to take home and decorate. Water safety trick-or-treat stations will be there, Halloween dance party. It's from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. And it's just $5. And it's gonna be so much fun for the kids. What a fun thing to do. Next, our local feel-good story of the day. baby giraffe born at our very own Brevard Zoo And we have pictures to prove it. Can't wait to show you. A six-foot-tall baby was just born at our very own Brevard Zoo. At 119 pounds, a female giraffe calf was born named Gail. That's what they gave the name of the giraffe. The birth took place at the zoo's behind-the-scenes Africa barn. Gail stood for the first time in just 30 minutes. The baby giraffe was examined by the zoo's team and appears to be doing well. Both mom and baby are remaining in behind the scenes to bond. And the photos that you're seeing right now are courtesy. Of Brevard Zoo. I just love it when they have baby news, especially a baby giraffe. That's amazing. That's our local feel-good story of the day. Before we wrap up the episode, we want to make sure you get the hack of the day. If you're feeling stressed give your stress a really silly voice and argue with it. I found this on Humorpedia, and apparently it works. So The voice you want to give somebody is like a surfer voice. All right. So here's what you're gonna do. Dude, if you totally mess up the presentation and everyone's thinking you're like totally unprepared, it sounds a lot less threatening when it comes from a surfer voice, right? Especially if you're doing it in your head. Like, yeah. I don't know if it was Valley Girl or Surfer Girl, but then you have to respond in your normal voice. You're doing this in your head. Thank you for that input. But I'm prepared and it's gonna be fine. Okay, I do talk to myself sometimes. I don't do it in a surfer voice. Maybe in an English accent. Maybe in a Spanish accent, something like that. But yeah, they say do in a surfer voice. Look, I even laughed about it. And then all of a sudden all the tension goes away. So if you want to try that little tip, that's your hack of the week. Song of the week. Merriam-Webster is adding 1400 new words to its dictionary, including words used on social media, like Rickroll. If you don't know what Rickroll means, it's because Rick Astley from his song Never Gonna Give You Up back in 1987, the video's amazing too. The lyrics are amazing. So people are starting to hear this song. And if you're like, hey, you just been Rickrolled because the song gets played and then you get to hear it. So that's gonna be the song of the week. And it actually is inspirational. So it's if you want to have a nice throwback song, check it out. We have some thank you shout outs for the day. A big thank you to Kathy, my girl from back in the day. Appreciate you following me on the podcast and on Instagram and Facebook. Also, shout out to Mark, Karen, and Kris And I do have to give a shout out to my buddy, who's to work at the radio station with him, Bill Mick from WMMB 1240 and 1350. He retired last Friday. it was a surprise for everyone, but he it's a coming one, and he was thinking about this for a long time. And I loved his last episode. There were so many people that supported him. And he'll be doing his own podcast coming up too. So we look for that. But yes, Bill Mick and I have been friends for so many years and such a gentleman. Every morning, when I pulled in around five thirty, he would wait for me outside the parking lot and walk me in. And we talked about his family. I talked about my family, we talked about, you know, work things. And things that were coming up on the weekend. He loved talked about his grandson Liam, who's amazing. And you know, we still do now. We keep texting each other now that he's retired. I said it's gonna take a while to get out of that four thirty well, his was three thirty in the morning. Mine was four thirty in the morning. So wish him well and luck and you know and we were gonna go to lunch because now he keeps telling me he's like, We can go to lunch any time now. You know, I I got a job. But he loves going to lunch. That's one thing that he does. But yes, we'll be going to lunch soon. And that wraps up another episode. Thank you so much for checking us out. And if you have a feature you want to add or suggestion or you heard something on the show years ago and you said, Hey, Mindy, I'd love to have you at that on the podcast. Because basically it's it's my morning show in a podcast and all the features that used to love listening to. And if there's something you want to throw in there, please, please do so.
