- 0:59Speaker 3: The World's of Vigeon podcast Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. Alex
- 1:10Speaker 3: called in saying she got snowed in telling you right
- 1:13Speaker 3: now it's weak. I don't care leave earlier, drives slower.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Fred l up one side down the other, like and
- 1:23Speaker 4: we were wrong?
- 1:24Speaker 3: What are you talking about? We weren't wrong, because night
- 1:26Speaker 3: before I was on the phone from the guy who
- 1:29Speaker 3: was in charge of credentials, saying, you'll be all set,
- 1:32Speaker 3: just show up to the place tomorrow. We show up
- 1:34Speaker 3: the next day, no credentials, and their excuse was, well,
- 1:37Speaker 3: we're all tired, that's what she said. Remember that too.
- 1:41Speaker 4: And I said to me, Brian me Brian and Andy
- 1:43Speaker 4: one never go.
- 1:45Speaker 5: My late favorite thing is when they which one was that?
- 1:48Speaker 6: Again?
- 1:48Speaker 4: I don't think that was. I think this was in
- 1:50Speaker 4: Houston and three right right, Jacksonville.
- 1:54Speaker 6: Oh, let me tell you how bad the hotel Wasn't
- 1:56Speaker 6: the super Bowl?
- 1:59Speaker 3: Which one was that?
- 2:01Speaker 4: Like the super Bowl happens after the championships.
- 2:04Speaker 3: You went to hey, yeah, you're on the air. Yeah,
- 2:08Speaker 3: have you shoveled out yet? And like are you all right? Okay?
- 2:13Speaker 2: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals by a Toyota
- 2:19Speaker 1: dot com.
- 2:22Speaker 3: All right, welcome the Patriot's Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 2:25Speaker 3: at Jills Stadium, and we're back on track, getting ready
- 2:28Speaker 3: for the Arizona Cardinals, who got caught looking ahead to
- 2:33Speaker 3: the Patriots last week, so they might be looking for
- 2:36Speaker 3: a little bit of redemption here. But Paul's here, Evan's here,
- 2:41Speaker 3: Deuce is here, I'm here, Matt's in the booth. We're
- 2:44Speaker 3: talking Patriots. We got some news that came out today.
- 2:48Speaker 3: We'll talk about that, talk about getting ready for the Cardinals. Obviously,
- 2:52Speaker 3: maybe we'll look back at the Patriots bye week and
- 2:55Speaker 3: the rest of the NFL. I'll talk about that. I
- 2:58Speaker 3: might have to leave a little early today though, So I'm.
- 3:00Speaker 4: Not happy, well, not happy.
- 3:02Speaker 3: I've got meetings, Paul meetings.
- 3:04Speaker 4: Not happy. Yeah, Douce, you're in charge.
- 3:06Speaker 3: But first thing, first couple personnel moves. The big news
- 3:12Speaker 3: the Patriots signed a kicker to the practice squad. Oh
- 3:16Speaker 3: they did. Oh you think that doesn't trump kJ Osborne
- 3:20Speaker 3: getting away?
- 3:21Speaker 4: Probably?
- 3:24Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 3:25Speaker 4: Name, I know, it's three names something something Romo, Yeah,
- 3:31Speaker 4: Parker Romo.
- 3:32Speaker 3: They did add a kicker to the practice squad. However,
- 3:35Speaker 3: obviously the bigger news, and it's not official yet, I
- 3:38Speaker 3: should say, but many reports, many qualified sources, are saying
- 3:43Speaker 3: that the Patriots have waived kJ Osborne. So a lot
- 3:47Speaker 3: of people pointing at yet another off season failure for
- 3:51Speaker 3: the team.
- 3:52Speaker 4: You know, yeah, I mean, I don't think it's a
- 3:55Speaker 4: it's a huge deal.
- 3:56Speaker 3: I don't.
- 3:56Speaker 4: I don't think they invested much in him. I thought
- 3:58Speaker 4: they brought in a you know, a veteran receiver and
- 4:01Speaker 4: a one year deal, hoping that he would you know,
- 4:04Speaker 4: provide some leadership and it didn't really work out that way.
- 4:07Speaker 4: But I don't think this is one of those certainly
- 4:10Speaker 4: not like the chuuks of kor for category where you
- 4:12Speaker 4: brought a guy in thinking you could play a position
- 4:14Speaker 4: that he'd never played before. Right, that's a much bigger misstep.
- 4:18Speaker 4: But you got a couple of Caden Wallace, Cole Strange,
- 4:24Speaker 4: a couple of offensive line in that are probably going to
- 4:26Speaker 4: be activated to the roster soon, sooner rather than later.
- 4:31Speaker 4: You need roster spots.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Yep.
- 4:32Speaker 6: Yeah, Cane Wallace back at practice yesterday, which they had a.
- 4:35Speaker 5: Cold Strange window expires on Wednesday.
- 4:39Speaker 6: Right, shaved his head to a sign.
- 4:41Speaker 5: If they want him back this year, they have to
- 4:43Speaker 5: activate him by tomorrow.
- 4:44Speaker 6: Otherwise I think they're going to about it.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Yeah, so he probably will get activated, I would think.
- 4:53Speaker 3: I think so. Yeah.
- 4:55Speaker 6: It sounds like Gira was like, he'll get he'll get
- 4:56Speaker 6: in there. And I think Reese uh suggested maybe a
- 4:59Speaker 6: little rotation with with Ben Brown to get him, you know,
- 5:02Speaker 6: not just throw him in as a starter, but you'll
- 5:04Speaker 6: get him some reps and sure that'll be good. Be good.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Look at him and then you know your guy Badard
- 5:10Speaker 3: writing for the Athletic.
- 5:12Speaker 4: No, no, he writes for himself.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Okay, So I so I I came across this thing
- 5:17Speaker 3: from the Athletic. Maybe they were quoting but Dard saying
- 5:20Speaker 3: that if Robert Kraft comes to the realization they can't
- 5:23Speaker 3: read either he made the wrong move with Male that
- 5:26Speaker 3: he will move on. Is that news? Like, if you're
- 5:29Speaker 3: admitting that you made the wrong move, you move on, right?
- 5:33Speaker 4: I would think, yeah, how.
- 5:35Speaker 6: Would you know, Well, you don't know yet, I mean
- 5:38Speaker 6: unless it was so I don't think it was.
- 5:39Speaker 4: I mean, I think a lot of people like to
- 5:41Speaker 4: try to.
- 5:41Speaker 3: It's one of those non headlines.
- 5:43Speaker 4: Robert and Jonathan Kraft as the things that they quote
- 5:45Speaker 4: unquote will do and they won't do. And I don't
- 5:47Speaker 4: necessarily think you get to the status that they've gotten
- 5:50Speaker 4: by only having one way of doing things right. You
- 5:52Speaker 4: know a lot of people have said, well, Robert Craft
- 5:55Speaker 4: isn't going to let go drawd mail because he would
- 5:56Speaker 4: have made a mistake. You think that he's never made
- 5:58Speaker 4: a mistake before, and he's never recognized the fact that
- 6:01Speaker 4: he's made a mistake before and fail done something about it.
- 6:04Speaker 3: I mean, now, I think it'd be ridiculous in my
- 6:06Speaker 3: opinion to say, oh, I know, now he's not the
- 6:11Speaker 3: guys unless there's all this stuff going on behind the
- 6:14Speaker 3: scenes that we don't see but believe we'd have heard
- 6:17Speaker 3: about it by now, Like you don't know, so like
- 6:20Speaker 3: give him that second year opportunity.
- 6:22Speaker 6: It just seems ridiculous. You knew you were hiring guy
- 6:24Speaker 6: that never coached the football team before, so you had
- 6:27Speaker 6: to give him some kind of grace and then to
- 6:28Speaker 6: come in and be like, yeah, no, it was terrible,
- 6:30Speaker 6: you're out now. Like, I don't think if it was
- 6:32Speaker 6: an established coach and came in and was doing all
- 6:35Speaker 6: kinds of stuff that you don't like and changing things around, Like,
- 6:38Speaker 6: I just don't know how you could judge a first
- 6:40Speaker 6: year head coach that's never really coached before if you
- 6:43Speaker 6: really believe in him, you have to over we knew
- 6:45Speaker 6: this wasn't gonna be a great season, what do you expect.
- 6:47Speaker 6: I don't think it's been the level of a train
- 6:49Speaker 6: wreck that you're like, oh my god, we got to
- 6:51Speaker 6: blow this whole thing up, Like you knew what you
- 6:53Speaker 6: were getting into with him, and you kind of have to,
- 6:54Speaker 6: you know, bite the bullet on that first listen.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Up to this point, it's not an effort situation. It's
- 7:00Speaker 3: an execution situation. They've been losing lately, you know, some
- 7:04Speaker 3: games I think they should have won. We'll see what
- 7:07Speaker 3: these last four games are. You know, they've got to
- 7:09Speaker 3: buy they come back hopefully a little bit of you know,
- 7:13Speaker 3: recharge of the battery, and you would hope that these guys,
- 7:16Speaker 3: as professionals, you know, put it all out in the
- 7:19Speaker 3: field these final four games. If nothing else, it's your tape. Yeah,
- 7:23Speaker 3: it's your future, it's your That's exactly what Austin Hooper
- 7:27Speaker 3: said yesterday. He said, you know, it's not just this
- 7:29Speaker 3: team watching us, it's all the teams and you know,
- 7:31Speaker 3: player like him, he's on a one year deal, but
- 7:33Speaker 3: same thing.
- 7:33Speaker 6: They'll be changed next year and you don't know whose
- 7:36Speaker 6: jobs are going to be up for you know, I
- 7:37Speaker 6: mean player wise, who's going to be looking for for
- 7:40Speaker 6: a new place. So he said he's been on teams
- 7:42Speaker 6: like this before, and it's you know, are you gonna
- 7:44Speaker 6: just kind of fold up and look toward to the
- 7:46Speaker 6: offseason or are you gonna you know, fight with your
- 7:48Speaker 6: guys and finish it out the way it should be finished.
- 7:50Speaker 6: So I guess we'll see what they turn in this weekend.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean Cardinals, Uh well, Patriots will come in
- 7:57Speaker 3: as the underdogs. I'm sure. Yeah.
- 7:59Speaker 4: Yeah, six and a half.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Oh, is that what it is right now? Yeah?
- 8:02Speaker 4: I think it's six and a half.
- 8:04Speaker 6: That's what it was yesterday.
- 8:09Speaker 4: A free fall. Yeah, like they've lost three in a row, right,
- 8:13Speaker 4: I give the Patriots a much better shot to win
- 8:15Speaker 4: this game than I did, say two weeks ago.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I do too, me too. I'm I'm getting a
- 8:19Speaker 3: feeling about this game, A very positive feeling now. You know,
- 8:23Speaker 3: last game against the Colts, I thought it was a
- 8:26Speaker 3: game the Patriots had a chance to win. They could
- 8:29Speaker 3: win that game. I'm feeling I'm actually starting to feel
- 8:32Speaker 3: a little stronger about this game than the colt Yeah,
- 8:35Speaker 3: that's surprising. Yeah, I mean, I I up, something's up.
- 8:40Speaker 6: I just I think the X factor is how much
- 8:43Speaker 6: do the Cardinals really want to make some noise here?
- 8:45Speaker 6: Down the end?
- 8:46Speaker 4: They're in the mix.
- 8:46Speaker 6: I mean, it's they're on the cusp, and usually I
- 8:49Speaker 6: give those teams a little bit of the benefit of
- 8:50Speaker 6: the doubt, especially at home going across country. So that's
- 8:53Speaker 6: why I still kind of lean towards the Cardinals. They've
- 8:55Speaker 6: got a bunch of talent, but at the same time,
- 8:57Speaker 6: at the Patriots come out and play with the devil,
- 9:01Speaker 6: make care thro throw caution to the wind attitude and
- 9:04Speaker 6: you know, put them on their heels a little bit.
- 9:05Speaker 6: You know, maybe they maybe they do fold up a
- 9:07Speaker 6: little bit, maybe they do start to make you know,
- 9:09Speaker 6: some of those stakes we saw, I mean we Kyle
- 9:10Speaker 6: Murray had two interceptions I think on in the first
- 9:12Speaker 6: two consecutive You know that that instantly put them in
- 9:15Speaker 6: a hole. I mean they were still kind of in it,
- 9:17Speaker 6: but they couldn't overcome that.
- 9:18Speaker 3: So if you were a guy, you know, either a
- 9:21Speaker 3: rookie or two three years into your career and you
- 9:27Speaker 3: come back from the bye not a real source, Oh okay,
- 9:32Speaker 3: you come back from the bye and Gerrod Meo, you know,
- 9:35Speaker 3: addresses the team. It says, listen, we're playing, We're going
- 9:39Speaker 3: to everybody's gonna get an opportunity these last four weeks.
- 9:42Speaker 3: You know, we want to see who's going to be
- 9:43Speaker 3: part of this team next year. Do you care about that?
- 9:47Speaker 3: Does that motivate you? I mean, you know, does that
- 9:51Speaker 3: go into like, you know, part of your motivation for
- 9:54Speaker 3: these last four games? Or it's like, you know, I
- 9:57Speaker 3: don't care whether I'm here or somewhere else, Like how
- 10:00Speaker 3: are you feeling about that?
- 10:02Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 10:02Speaker 6: I think well, that's something that Jonathan Jones has touched
- 10:04Speaker 6: on a couple of times, and he touched it on
- 10:05Speaker 6: it yesterday to where a young team like this, like
- 10:08Speaker 6: you see young guys still playing with that effort, you
- 10:10Speaker 6: know they still have something to prove, you know, he said.
- 10:14Speaker 4: I mean explicitly say anybody.
- 10:15Speaker 6: But I've been on teams in the past with veterans
- 10:18Speaker 6: where when it's not going well, when you know you're
- 10:20Speaker 6: not going to the playoffs, some of the veteran guys
- 10:23Speaker 6: they start to shut it down a little bit. So
- 10:25Speaker 6: I don't know, I mean, you know, maybe these things
- 10:26Speaker 6: are kind of connected a little bit to you know,
- 10:28Speaker 6: releasing kJ Osbourne, that kind of stuff, cutting the fat,
- 10:31Speaker 6: playing the guys who want to be here, giving cold
- 10:33Speaker 6: strangers and Kayden Wallace is a chance to get in
- 10:35Speaker 6: there and show what they got and that should be
- 10:37Speaker 6: the out of tende.
- 10:38Speaker 4: I look at more the guys that are banged up
- 10:41Speaker 4: and the veteran guys that Mike is talking about less
- 10:44Speaker 4: so than guys like kJ Are they tap out or
- 10:46Speaker 4: do they That's what I'm looking for, right, you know,
- 10:49Speaker 4: I thought it was a good sign that, you know,
- 10:53Speaker 4: Duger misses a couple of games with an akel injury.
- 10:55Speaker 4: He gets back out there. Wise, missed a couple of
- 10:57Speaker 4: games with an akle injury, you got back. Those are
- 10:59Speaker 4: the kinds of guys you keep an eye on, yep.
- 11:01Speaker 4: And I know that Douger hasn't played well. I'm not
- 11:03Speaker 4: necessarily saying, oh no, great, Paul, he got back on
- 11:05Speaker 4: the field. What do you do. But that's the guys
- 11:08Speaker 4: that you look at to tap out, yep. Veteran guys
- 11:11Speaker 4: who know what it's like to be on a winning
- 11:12Speaker 4: team and they know this isn't one of those. And
- 11:15Speaker 4: I'm kind of kind of dealing with an ankle problem.
- 11:18Speaker 4: Maybe I can play if we're in the playoffs, but
- 11:20Speaker 4: I'm going to sit out. Osborne's been a healthy scratch
- 11:24Speaker 4: for a month. Yeah, you know, so, I those those
- 11:27Speaker 4: kinds of guys. I think Mike is right the younger guys.
- 11:30Speaker 4: The younger guys are going to play for their career.
- 11:33Speaker 4: They're trying to establish themselves in the league. Yeah, so
- 11:35Speaker 4: I wouldn't worry about their effort. I would worry about
- 11:39Speaker 4: I don't really worry about anyone's effort, to be honest
- 11:41Speaker 4: with you, in that league, I think it's too hot
- 11:43Speaker 4: for a sport to play at half speed, but whether or
- 11:46Speaker 4: not they play is something to keep an eye on.
- 11:49Speaker 4: Keep an eye in the injury report. Yeah, when when
- 11:51Speaker 4: we get one.
- 11:52Speaker 5: Okay, Yeah, especially those guys like dugger You know, those
- 11:56Speaker 5: guys are under contract, they're paid men like Austin Hooper
- 11:59Speaker 5: is a good example. Someone's going into free agency, Jonathan
- 12:02Speaker 5: Jones going back into free agency. Most likely, those guys
- 12:06Speaker 5: still have things to play for in terms of putting
- 12:08Speaker 5: good film out there for teams that are looking to
- 12:11Speaker 5: sign them next offseason. But it's a good point. If
- 12:13Speaker 5: you're Kyle Duggar, you just got this huge contract, You're
- 12:16Speaker 5: a little banged up. You know how much does this
- 12:19Speaker 5: last four games really mean to you? I guess we'll
- 12:21Speaker 5: we'll see.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Yeah. In terms of scheduling, it's a normal week, although
- 12:27Speaker 3: the Patriots will leave on Friday for Phoenix, but they
- 12:30Speaker 3: will practice on Friday, so after the practice, that's when
- 12:34Speaker 3: they'll leave. So we'll get the regular cadence of participation
- 12:39Speaker 3: reports from practice this week.
- 12:41Speaker 6: Yeah, it seems like pretty standard schedule. I thought Friday,
- 12:44Speaker 6: you guys might leave a little earlier, but it seems
- 12:46Speaker 6: like everything is pretty much standard schedule based on what
- 12:49Speaker 6: they just released. So yeah, a little late afternoon, a
- 12:52Speaker 6: trip to the desert. Guys, how are you feeling about that?
- 12:54Speaker 3: I got it. I need recommendation. I need recommendations for
- 12:58Speaker 3: content to put on my iPad. I don't want to
- 13:00Speaker 3: get into a multi season series, but like, if there's
- 13:04Speaker 3: like a one season series or a three part documentary
- 13:08Speaker 3: that you would recommend, I'm looking for recommendation.
- 13:11Speaker 6: I got a doc for you. We watched the doc shoot.
- 13:13Speaker 6: I think it's on HBO Max. But it's about this
- 13:14Speaker 6: like yoga guru lady. Okay, next, it's it's kind of
- 13:18Speaker 6: a story, cult story.
- 13:20Speaker 4: I was kind of disrespectful trying to come up with
- 13:22Speaker 4: some options. Now, swipe rights all right.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Game of Showgun, fred I just finished it. But isn't
- 13:30Speaker 1: that multi multi it's one one series, one season only.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Oh really, ten episodes? Okay, that's right up my alley.
- 13:37Speaker 3: I heard Japanese Game of Thrones. I know what Showgun is. Yeah, okay,
- 13:42Speaker 3: I might try that.
- 13:43Speaker 5: James Clivell, Yeah, yeah, might watch more a little bit
- 13:46Speaker 5: of the Georgia Defense, maybe Michigan Okay, yeah.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Is suggesting brothers.
- 13:54Speaker 6: I hope you've seen that everybody should see that.
- 13:57Speaker 5: Okay, maybe a little buffalo bills there.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Okay, all right, against How about the games this weekend?
- 14:03Speaker 3: What are your thoughts? Boy? The Chiefs just they did
- 14:07Speaker 3: it again. Huh Yeah, I thought I made a very
- 14:10Speaker 3: courageous pick in picking the Charges to win that game,
- 14:14Speaker 3: out right.
- 14:15Speaker 4: You did, and you went, You went one, one and
- 14:18Speaker 4: one because you had two luck of a different types,
- 14:21Speaker 4: of different types, and you split them and almost won
- 14:24Speaker 4: them both. Right.
- 14:25Speaker 3: I was onto something.
- 14:28Speaker 4: If I were Kansas City, I'd be definitely afraid that
- 14:30Speaker 4: one of these scenarios unfolds in the playoffs and you just,
- 14:34Speaker 4: instead of bouncing in, it bounces out.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Yep.
- 14:38Speaker 4: I do think that they looked better in some areas,
- 14:42Speaker 4: Like I think Humphreys gave them better protection on the
- 14:47Speaker 4: left side. But then he gets he doesn't finish the game,
- 14:50Speaker 4: you know. I don't know if it was a hamstring
- 14:52Speaker 4: or a reaggravation of the knee that had him out
- 14:54Speaker 4: in the first place. They just don't they They can't
- 14:57Speaker 4: sustain offense.
- 14:59Speaker 3: Yeah, it's weird. They move the ball, but then they
- 15:02Speaker 3: get they can't get in the ends.
- 15:03Speaker 5: They don't pass protect well. Especially Mahome's been getting.
- 15:09Speaker 3: What about your team, the Bills.
- 15:12Speaker 4: It's a bad loss if you ask me, I mean
- 15:14Speaker 4: I know that they you know, you put up all
- 15:17Speaker 4: the video game numbers and all that. Just two things
- 15:20Speaker 4: that would really trouble me about the loss. And first,
- 15:22Speaker 4: I don't think that they necessarily were ready to play
- 15:25Speaker 4: at the beginning of the game. I think they got
- 15:27Speaker 4: hit in the mouth and they were so much better
- 15:29Speaker 4: than the Rams that they eventually evened it off. But
- 15:31Speaker 4: they allowed the Rams to go right down the field
- 15:33Speaker 4: and score. And then when they didn't score, they get
- 15:35Speaker 4: a punt block for another touchdowns and all of a
- 15:37Speaker 4: sudden they're down ten points. So they weren't ready. That
- 15:40Speaker 4: would trouble me.
- 15:41Speaker 3: I'm just saying the Patriots defense did better against the
- 15:43Speaker 3: Rams of the Bills defense, just saying I was gonna
- 15:46Speaker 3: get to that out.
- 15:46Speaker 6: It's felt the same, looked, it looks similar times for sure.
- 15:51Speaker 6: I mean it looked exactly the same crazy catch every
- 15:55Speaker 6: single time.
- 15:55Speaker 4: But that would be the second part is is Ara
- 15:58Speaker 4: is supposed to be a defensive guy. To you a point, Freddy,
- 16:03Speaker 4: I'm not an expert. I don't I always give my preamble.
- 16:06Speaker 4: I don't do this for a living I don't. I
- 16:08Speaker 4: don't do all that, but it didn't seem to me
- 16:10Speaker 4: like they did anything different from the first possession of
- 16:13Speaker 4: that game defensively to the last possession. And at some point,
- 16:16Speaker 4: don't you just have to say, I need to make
- 16:18Speaker 4: an adjustment. Either I got to play more man or
- 16:21Speaker 4: I got to play more like I gotta double this guy,
- 16:24Speaker 4: make him go to that guy. I understand that Nicola
- 16:26Speaker 4: and Cup both made some incredible catches in that game,
- 16:29Speaker 4: especially Nkua. The one on the sideline was ridiculous, but
- 16:33Speaker 4: even that the touchdown that Cup caught that he pinned
- 16:36Speaker 4: on his knee, like, I get that, the coverage wasn't
- 16:38Speaker 4: all Like Taron Johnson's a pretty good player and he
- 16:41Speaker 4: was in really good position several times. It just didn't
- 16:44Speaker 4: make the play. Yeah, but you gotta do something. You
- 16:47Speaker 4: can't allow a team to score thirty five points like
- 16:49Speaker 4: that like nothing, you know what, thirty eight points like nothing.
- 16:53Speaker 5: Their defense feels a lot like some of the Patriots
- 16:55Speaker 5: defenses that we've seen at the end of the Patriots
- 16:59Speaker 5: run where really good against bad teams. You know, they'll
- 17:02Speaker 5: beat up on the as Paula's to say, the backup
- 17:05Speaker 5: quarterbacks and you know, the bad offenses.
- 17:07Speaker 4: But I say, the Bills, do they pay the Tigers defense?
- 17:10Speaker 5: When they get again in a good game against a
- 17:12Speaker 5: good team, their defense is not played.
- 17:15Speaker 4: I mean, when they face they lose.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Is there a chance Ari might lose his job if
- 17:21Speaker 3: they're one and done in the playoffs, Like if there's
- 17:23Speaker 3: a Bill Belichick available and they don't think that they
- 17:26Speaker 3: could get over the hump with him.
- 17:28Speaker 4: I mean, you can keep wishing. I mean, I think
- 17:30Speaker 4: the writing's on the wall for you. A guy he's unwanted.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Oh Billy, he's like he's thinking about going to North Carolina.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Listen, I don't know about that. I mean, you know,
- 17:42Speaker 3: as much as I'd love, you know, the you know,
- 17:45Speaker 3: all the talk like your your show, felgrin Mas love
- 17:48Speaker 3: to kill him and and all that, But here's the thing.
- 17:53Speaker 4: I think it's the NFL it's killing him. I don't
- 17:55Speaker 4: think it's you know, the whole talk with U n C.
- 17:57Speaker 3: It could be real interest, you know, but it also
- 18:00Speaker 3: could be like I'm going to talk to them, you know,
- 18:04Speaker 3: but just but NFL teams, if you're interested, you better
- 18:07Speaker 3: let me know.
- 18:08Speaker 4: That's all this is. Well, there's nobody interested, And it's
- 18:11Speaker 4: what who do you think reached out to? Who? No,
- 18:13Speaker 4: but I know Carolina or Bill.
- 18:14Speaker 3: But if you're a team with an existing coach, you
- 18:17Speaker 3: have to be very careful. You can't reach out until
- 18:20Speaker 3: the position is actually vacant.
- 18:23Speaker 4: Well, there are three teams that don't have coach. None
- 18:26Speaker 4: of them have evidently reached out. Who the Raiders, I mean,
- 18:30Speaker 4: I'm sorry, the Bears, the Saints, and the Giants, the Jets.
- 18:34Speaker 5: Jets New York team.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Well, how do you know they haven't reached.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Out because I'm just going off of him. Yeah, because
- 18:42Speaker 4: I agree with everything you just said. This is a ploy,
- 18:44Speaker 4: a ploy by Bill to say I'm open for business.
- 18:48Speaker 4: I'll take this job.
- 18:49Speaker 3: But what if the Jets reached out? He said I'm
- 18:50Speaker 3: not interested in the Jets.
- 18:53Speaker 4: You know, then stop bitching about no one being interested
- 18:56Speaker 4: in you.
- 18:56Speaker 3: Well he hasn't bitched at all. No, no, no, his cronies,
- 18:59Speaker 3: he doesn't know. He does it very very I know.
- 19:02Speaker 4: Not so discreetly. Yeah, that's Mike Lombardi for those of
- 19:07Speaker 4: you who don't know. He's the mouthpiece.
- 19:08Speaker 3: And you know, if he did go to UNC, I
- 19:11Speaker 3: would be a little bit surprised, But at the same time,
- 19:15Speaker 3: if it's true that he still does want to run
- 19:18Speaker 3: the show wherever he is, that's probably that type of position.
- 19:22Speaker 3: You know, uh scenario is the only place we'll be
- 19:25Speaker 3: in do that. You noticed he's talking to the chancellor, right,
- 19:28Speaker 3: he's not talking to the ADH like he could become
- 19:31Speaker 3: the ad for UNC for all we know.
- 19:34Speaker 4: You know, I don't think there's any chance of that. Well,
- 19:37Speaker 4: I just like I just listen, I was wrong. I
- 19:41Speaker 4: thought he'd have some interest. Last year.
- 19:43Speaker 3: He didn't.
- 19:44Speaker 4: He had one team that talked to him. That's it,
- 19:47Speaker 4: and it's pretty clear that no one's really interested now.
- 19:50Speaker 3: It could be. It could be.
- 19:51Speaker 4: I don't tell me that it's hard to have conversations
- 19:54Speaker 4: with people he's not currently employed. Yeah, No, I don't
- 19:58Speaker 4: tell me that it's that hard to do.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Well. I just it's hard to do without it getting
- 20:02Speaker 3: back to your current team.
- 20:04Speaker 4: No, it's not. No, it's not.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Well, you know, so, I don't know. Maybe, like I said,
- 20:09Speaker 3: maybe the teams that have reached out he's not interested
- 20:12Speaker 3: in them. I don't know. I don't know.
- 20:13Speaker 6: Do you think he wants to coach there?
- 20:15Speaker 4: I think he wants to coach in the NFL.
- 20:16Speaker 3: I think he wants to coach. Obviously he wants to So.
- 20:19Speaker 6: I mean, this is funny because I mean I remember
- 20:21Speaker 6: having a conversation of like, what are the things that
- 20:23Speaker 6: built it out of spite? Here? And this feels like
- 20:24Speaker 6: another thing of like he's doing out a spite, like, oh,
- 20:27Speaker 6: you're not gonna talk to me, I'm gonna start talking
- 20:28Speaker 6: to it. And like, but what happens if like all
- 20:30Speaker 6: the chairs are gone at the end of the you know,
- 20:33Speaker 6: and I don't.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Think he wants to weigh but what if what if
- 20:36Speaker 3: he really is saying I do want to coach, but
- 20:39Speaker 3: I'm not going to coach in a place I'm not
- 20:40Speaker 3: going to be happy. So in other words, the conditions
- 20:44Speaker 3: have to be right. I'm at that, I'm at an
- 20:46Speaker 3: age I'm financially set. I can pick and choose, and
- 20:51Speaker 3: you know, like Lombardi said, he I know he he
- 20:53Speaker 3: poked fun at the at the Jaguars, but maybe he's
- 20:57Speaker 3: Bill has had a brothers. Yeah, maybe he's had a
- 20:59Speaker 3: conversation with Lombardi like I'm not gonna go coach at
- 21:01Speaker 3: a place where the owner's son's running the data analytics department.
- 21:05Speaker 3: And then Lombardi goes and repeats, So.
- 21:06Speaker 4: You didn't know the college jobs are actually more valuable now,
- 21:09Speaker 4: they're better jobs in the NFL jobs. Well, these are
- 21:12Speaker 4: the things I learned when I listen.
- 21:13Speaker 3: But it is kind of true that college is now,
- 21:17Speaker 3: it's changed.
- 21:18Speaker 4: It's worse. That's why they're getting out. Guys like Bill
- 21:21Speaker 4: are getting out of college now because of the way
- 21:24Speaker 4: it's changed. The greatest coach who's ever done it at
- 21:27Speaker 4: that level.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Well, if you if you're looking for college to remain
- 21:30Speaker 3: the same, you get out. But if you're coming from
- 21:33Speaker 3: the NFL, where money is the big thing, maybe the
- 21:38Speaker 3: college isn't such a leap anymore. You know, maybe it's
- 21:41Speaker 3: not that much different. Now.
- 21:42Speaker 4: I'm not saying that he can't coach in college. Yeah,
- 21:45Speaker 4: I'm saying that. Don't tell me that this is that's
- 21:47Speaker 4: a better opportunity in the NFL, which is what Mike Lombardi.
- 21:51Speaker 3: But I'm saying, if if you do want to coach,
- 21:53Speaker 3: and you want to make sure that where you coach
- 21:55Speaker 3: is you're you're going to be happy, maybe you look
- 21:59Speaker 3: at college like a North Carolina level team and say,
- 22:02Speaker 3: you know what, Yeah, I'm the big fish in the small.
- 22:05Speaker 4: I would just disagree. I don't think he has any options.
- 22:08Speaker 4: I think he reached out to North Carolina because why
- 22:10Speaker 4: would North Carolina fire or seventy something year old coach
- 22:13Speaker 4: and then their first thought was to call another seventy
- 22:16Speaker 4: something coach interested?
- 22:19Speaker 5: Why would North Carolina ever think Bill Belichick would be interested?
- 22:21Speaker 6: And why would he thank you first?
- 22:24Speaker 4: Good thing? Is that sense? Why would you be.
- 22:27Speaker 6: Interested in North Carolina of all places? Like is there
- 22:29Speaker 6: anything like specific open? I mean, I just college jobs
- 22:33Speaker 6: open right now.
- 22:34Speaker 5: Looking at the NFL, I just I think it's two
- 22:37Speaker 5: things for him. I think one, there's power structures in
- 22:40Speaker 5: the NFL where not every organization is just going to
- 22:44Speaker 5: be the head coach reports directly to the owner. I
- 22:46Speaker 5: think this is what happened in Atlanta. I think the
- 22:48Speaker 5: owner wanted Bill Belichick in Atlanta last year, but his
- 22:52Speaker 5: cronies McKay and all those guys said, well, what about me,
- 22:55Speaker 5: Like if you give the job to Bill, then I'm
- 22:57Speaker 5: going to be out of a job, or my power
- 22:59Speaker 5: is going to lesson or whatever. So they all go
- 23:01Speaker 5: rally the troops and say we can't let this guy
- 23:04Speaker 5: get the job. I think that's what happened in Atlanta
- 23:06Speaker 5: and the second thing, he's seventy three years old, So, like,
- 23:09Speaker 5: what's your runway with him as your head coach? If
- 23:12Speaker 5: you're a win now team and you really feel like
- 23:14Speaker 5: you're gonna win a super Bowl, if you hire this guy,
- 23:16Speaker 5: then I guess it's worth it to do it for
- 23:18Speaker 5: a year. But like after that, what's the runway? You know,
- 23:22Speaker 5: what's the what's the plan after that? Like you know,
- 23:26Speaker 5: just the Patriots are in that position right now where
- 23:28Speaker 5: they probably gave the job to a guy that was
- 23:31Speaker 5: not quite ready for the job because they had to
- 23:33Speaker 5: get out immediately from Bill. And now you're in a
- 23:37Speaker 5: position where you don't have someone that's you know, one
- 23:39Speaker 5: hundred percent qualified for what he's doing.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's that's not that's not the same comparison
- 23:45Speaker 3: with Bill. You would get on day one someone who's
- 23:48Speaker 3: one hundred percent quality and.
- 23:49Speaker 5: Who's coming after Bill.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Well, you worry about that then, But then you have
- 23:53Speaker 3: a super Bowl and that buys you a lot.
- 23:55Speaker 5: That's assuming he wins.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Well that's why you do it.
- 23:59Speaker 5: But like right, but like so you're gonna.
- 24:02Speaker 3: It's a gamble, sure, right, it's a huge gam but
- 24:04Speaker 3: every time you hire a new coach, it's a gamble,
- 24:06Speaker 3: but you hire.
- 24:08Speaker 5: It just doesn't fit the blueprint of what teams are
- 24:10Speaker 5: looking for nowadays. Like teams are looking for the forty
- 24:13Speaker 5: year old wiz kid, right the Sean McVay, the Kyle Shanahan,
- 24:18Speaker 5: like the Ben Johnson, Like that's that's the it thing
- 24:21Speaker 5: right now. He's the polar opposite of that. So it
- 24:24Speaker 5: just looking at it from you know, the way the
- 24:27Speaker 5: hiring cycles have gone the last couple of years, Like
- 24:30Speaker 5: none of these older coaches are getting jobs, Like Pete
- 24:32Speaker 5: Carroll's out in Seattle too, like that.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Does he want to coach? Does he?
- 24:36Speaker 6: Like?
- 24:36Speaker 4: I haven't heard.
- 24:37Speaker 5: Any upstairs job technically.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I haven't heard any desire from him.
- 24:41Speaker 4: I think, you know, getting back he's actually to Bill
- 24:45Speaker 4: and his options. I think if you if you look
- 24:48Speaker 4: at the landscape, they'll they'll be there'll be jobs open.
- 24:52Speaker 4: I don't you know, maybe Dallas ends up not being
- 24:54Speaker 4: one of them. Everybody thought it would be. Who knows,
- 24:56Speaker 4: but this is going to be jobs open. But for options,
- 25:00Speaker 4: these teams have Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn, Cliff Kingsbury, Mike Rabel.
- 25:07Speaker 4: I don't know Bobby Slowick got a lot of interviews
- 25:10Speaker 4: last year. They haven't been as good offensively this year.
- 25:12Speaker 4: Who knows, maybe, but I think Bill understands the preference
- 25:16Speaker 4: is for what what Evan's talking about. We need a
- 25:20Speaker 4: younger guy who's the next big thing, and that's the
- 25:23Speaker 4: guys that are going to get all the attention. I
- 25:25Speaker 4: think Bill recognizes that he hasn't heard anything from these
- 25:28Speaker 4: teams because they're all waiting for the season to end,
- 25:30Speaker 4: and he doesn't want to wait that long. He has
- 25:32Speaker 4: this opportunity that just came up.
- 25:35Speaker 3: I mean, you could be right.
- 25:36Speaker 4: I think for North Carolina, I think that they could
- 25:40Speaker 4: bite the bullet and say, well, it's going to put
- 25:43Speaker 4: eyeballs on our program for a year or two and
- 25:46Speaker 4: he's going to be a good coach. We know we
- 25:48Speaker 4: can coach. So it's not like like I heard someone say,
- 25:51Speaker 4: if he wins six or seven games, like that would
- 25:54Speaker 4: be great. Like that's what they do now. They go
- 25:57Speaker 4: to bowl games every year North Carolina. They went to
- 25:59Speaker 4: eight games last year in a bad year with Drake
- 26:01Speaker 4: may and I think they're in the Fenway Park Bowl
- 26:04Speaker 4: this year. It was abi Fenway Bowl whatever that's called.
- 26:07Speaker 5: A couple of years ago there in the SEC championship games.
- 26:09Speaker 4: So like, let's not make this out to be if
- 26:12Speaker 4: Bill comes and goes eight and four, we're going to
- 26:13Speaker 4: build statues of him. That's what they are. They can't
- 26:16Speaker 4: be the team that goes eleven and one.
- 26:18Speaker 3: They just can't.
- 26:19Speaker 4: They can't get to that level.
- 26:21Speaker 3: But you have to play against college.
- 26:25Speaker 6: Deny, I'm be intrigued to see him coach in college,
- 26:27Speaker 6: Like all this other stuff. I totally agree, and it's
- 26:29Speaker 6: all good talk, but like just to actually see him
- 26:31Speaker 6: coach college, and like I just schematically what does he do? Like,
- 26:34Speaker 6: what does he do? Does he try to bing? Like
- 26:36Speaker 6: his the guy who's.
- 26:38Speaker 4: Geames but scoff at all college schemes for twenty five years?
- 26:43Speaker 3: Rights?
- 26:43Speaker 6: And you know when he said I think I saw
- 26:45Speaker 6: him on the you know, saying I'm gonna pro ready players,
- 26:48Speaker 6: So right, is he gonna eskew?
- 26:50Speaker 3: Well, you know the more quarterbacks. When Coughlin went to BC,
- 26:54Speaker 3: Tom Coflin, he ran a pro offense at BC and
- 26:59Speaker 3: they were pretty good back then.
- 27:01Speaker 6: Yeah, Glenn, fully, yeah, I remember.
- 27:03Speaker 3: That, like he was running a pro style off.
- 27:06Speaker 4: I'm not saying that his like offensively Billo I mean,
- 27:09Speaker 4: we don't have to go back thirty years. Bill O'Brien
- 27:11Speaker 4: did it at Penn State. Yeah, he ran the Patriots
- 27:13Speaker 4: offense with Christian Hackenberg and he actually made him a
- 27:17Speaker 4: second round pick and the guy couldn't play. Turns out,
- 27:21Speaker 4: so he I mean, I'm not necessarily saying his schemes.
- 27:24Speaker 3: I'm gonna defend Bill in terms of his potential because
- 27:29Speaker 3: I think he's smart enough to adapt to anything.
- 27:32Speaker 4: I just said, I don't think that it's I know
- 27:35Speaker 4: if I think if you hired him as CEO Walmart
- 27:38Speaker 4: he'd be successful, I really do so.
- 27:40Speaker 3: I think he will.
- 27:41Speaker 4: I think that's kind of a people business. I think
- 27:43Speaker 4: you might have to have a passion.
- 27:45Speaker 5: Doubt that you do a good job at North Carolina.
- 27:47Speaker 4: Is the coaching coaching.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't have So what do you recruiting?
- 27:53Speaker 4: Everything?
- 27:53Speaker 3: All the other stuff is dealing with.
- 27:55Speaker 6: The barring seventeen and eight eighteen year old kids.
- 27:58Speaker 4: So I think that his reputation will draw some kids
- 28:01Speaker 4: to him, much like Deon Sanders did. Right, Okay, And
- 28:04Speaker 4: I'm not comparing their personalities. Obviously a lot of names,
- 28:07Speaker 4: there'd be a lot more young players who would be
- 28:10Speaker 4: more drawn to Deon Sanders than Bill Belichick, but the
- 28:15Speaker 4: whole cliche. You have a guy that knows what it
- 28:17Speaker 4: takes to get you ready to play in the NFL.
- 28:19Speaker 4: You go and play for him, and he's going to
- 28:21Speaker 4: get you NFL prepared. But nowadays they don't do that.
- 28:24Speaker 4: They don't stay in college at the same place for
- 28:27Speaker 4: three or four years. So you will have to recruit
- 28:31Speaker 4: those guys after they get in your program. You need
- 28:33Speaker 4: to recruit them to get them to stay right, and
- 28:35Speaker 4: you need to pagi. I heard I heard some numbers
- 28:38Speaker 4: today on one of your shows, Fred that indicated that
- 28:42Speaker 4: their nil last year was was like four million. The
- 28:47Speaker 4: UNC is nil and now because of revenue sharing gonna
- 28:49Speaker 4: be up to twelve million. That's basically what it's going
- 28:52Speaker 4: to cost to get him to be your coach. So
- 28:54Speaker 4: where are you going to get the money to pay
- 28:57Speaker 4: for these.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Places at the same pot that it comes out of?
- 29:00Speaker 4: Pretty much? Yeah, Like there's only so much money you have.
- 29:03Speaker 4: Like I think that it could. I think he'd be
- 29:06Speaker 4: fine coaching whoever, like I heard them saying last night,
- 29:11Speaker 4: and it was fine. I heard Current and Phil you know,
- 29:14Speaker 4: talking on one on on the early edition, and I
- 29:17Speaker 4: think current said, he goes you know, listen, I don't
- 29:20Speaker 4: worry about Bill being able to coach. He can have
- 29:22Speaker 4: the running back that runs a four to nine. He's
- 29:24Speaker 4: going to figure out way to make that work. And
- 29:26Speaker 4: I agree with him largely he will, especially at the
- 29:29Speaker 4: college level. Can you imagine what he would do to
- 29:30Speaker 4: some of those college guys.
- 29:32Speaker 5: I actually think his style might work better he he'd.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Out coached the crap out of more than half of
- 29:37Speaker 4: that league because a lot of those that's what I'm saying,
- 29:40Speaker 4: like a lot of those guys that like they're just
- 29:43Speaker 4: they're just trying to figure it out. So I have
- 29:45Speaker 4: no questions about his coaching ability at that level. I
- 29:48Speaker 4: have a question about how he's going to relate to
- 29:51Speaker 4: those kids and keep them and get enough of them
- 29:53Speaker 4: to buy in.
- 29:54Speaker 3: The girlfriend relates to them.
- 29:56Speaker 4: She cooks stinner, you gotta take you got to take cheap, she.
- 29:58Speaker 3: Cooks dinners Saturday, you know, Friday night? Did the team?
- 30:01Speaker 5: But you do hear like now that he's on TV,
- 30:04Speaker 5: like Saban, you can see that he can turn on
- 30:06Speaker 5: the charm a little bit and be that kind of
- 30:09Speaker 5: guy where I.
- 30:10Speaker 4: Could be convinced Saban's funny Yeah, you don't.
- 30:13Speaker 5: You don't see that that side to Bill, where like
- 30:16Speaker 5: I would be an eighteen year old kid and you know,
- 30:19Speaker 5: getting recruited to every single school in the country, and
- 30:22Speaker 5: I'm gonna pick Bill over you know, Dob Sweeney or whatever.
- 30:26Speaker 5: It was the only other coach I could think.
- 30:27Speaker 4: And if you're in North Carolina, what on earth would
- 30:30Speaker 4: possess you to say, sure, you do it for two years,
- 30:34Speaker 4: maybe three, and then your son can take it. Right?
- 30:37Speaker 3: Well, that was weird.
- 30:38Speaker 4: I'm putting that in writing.
- 30:40Speaker 3: No do we know that's true?
- 30:42Speaker 4: Not because and this is not this is not a
- 30:44Speaker 4: shot at Steve. Why am I agreeing to this? And
- 30:47Speaker 4: then if let's say Bill comes in and we go
- 30:49Speaker 4: six and six two years in a row, I want
- 30:52Speaker 4: to sign up for more of it.
- 30:53Speaker 3: I I don't know if that part of it's true.
- 30:55Speaker 6: I don't either, but it just it made me think
- 30:57Speaker 6: of how things went down here and how there was
- 30:58Speaker 6: a successor in place and it wasn't his successor. And
- 31:01Speaker 6: maybe now I experience he's saying, if I'm gonna go
- 31:03Speaker 6: do something, now, I'm gonna know what's gonna come after me.
- 31:06Speaker 6: But I I find it a little bit of a stress.
- 31:08Speaker 3: And if you really want to do what's best for Steve,
- 31:10Speaker 3: you don't do that. No, you don't. You don't like
- 31:14Speaker 3: have your current you know, or potential employer promise your
- 31:17Speaker 3: son a job that that that's a bad look for
- 31:20Speaker 3: his son. I'm dubious about that part of the story
- 31:25Speaker 3: me too, you know.
- 31:27Speaker 4: But I'm dubious that North Carolina would do it. I'm
- 31:29Speaker 4: not dubious that they asked for it.
- 31:31Speaker 5: What I find fascinating, I am.
- 31:32Speaker 4: I think that's right in line with the way he offers.
- 31:35Speaker 3: I'm dubious.
- 31:36Speaker 5: I think what's fascinating from the North Carolina perspective is
- 31:38Speaker 5: it doesn't sound like everybody down there is on board
- 31:42Speaker 5: with hiring him. Now, that could be a money thing.
- 31:44Speaker 5: It could be simply we don't.
- 31:45Speaker 4: Want to foud him.
- 31:46Speaker 5: But it also could be we just fired a seventy
- 31:49Speaker 5: three year old head coach, and we're going to hire
- 31:51Speaker 5: another seventy three year old head coach that's going to
- 31:53Speaker 5: be out of here in two years, and we have
- 31:54Speaker 5: to promise his son the job afterwards. Like are all
- 31:57Speaker 5: these whether that's true or not, just all these parameters,
- 32:00Speaker 5: Like I think someone said that he had like a
- 32:02Speaker 5: four hundred page like handbook of like what the Bill
- 32:06Speaker 5: Pelichick program would look like at North Carolina with like.
- 32:10Speaker 4: That, that's a page turn on, you know, all sorts
- 32:12Speaker 4: of like everything.
- 32:13Speaker 5: You know, we know all the stuff that goes into
- 32:16Speaker 5: shootball program.
- 32:17Speaker 3: He did do a job. He's been doing a lot
- 32:19Speaker 3: of research, so like to me, that's like, wow, I'd
- 32:23Speaker 3: be impressed by that. Like, Okay, he's seventy three, but
- 32:27Speaker 3: what his age. If the guy is still mentally sharp
- 32:30Speaker 3: and eager to do it, who cares? I mean MATC.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Brown got fired, but he got fired for cause. I mean,
- 32:38Speaker 3: we're going to bring in a guy, regardless of his age,
- 32:40Speaker 3: that I think is going to be a better coach.
- 32:42Speaker 6: What do you think's changed from the time when he said,
- 32:44Speaker 6: you know, famously, I'm not going to be like Marv
- 32:46Speaker 6: Levy coaching in my seventies. You think you just get
- 32:48Speaker 6: to that point and you're like, I feel good and
- 32:49Speaker 6: I still like it and I just want to keep going.
- 32:51Speaker 4: Well, and I don't.
- 32:52Speaker 3: That's why he probably regrets saying that.
- 32:54Speaker 4: I don't hold that against him, Yeah, I don't, because
- 32:56Speaker 4: I think you can change your mind when you go Yeah, absolutely,
- 33:00Speaker 4: But I mean Mac Brown's a great college coach. Mack
- 33:03Speaker 4: Brown won national title at Texas. Yeah, like he got
- 33:07Speaker 4: fired for his age, I know, but anything else.
- 33:10Speaker 3: But you know, but not all seventy three year olds
- 33:13Speaker 3: are the same. Like I know, I take care of
- 33:16Speaker 3: somebody who's eighty three, the exact same age as Robert Kraft.
- 33:20Speaker 3: You wouldn't know it. This guy can't even move, you know.
- 33:23Speaker 3: It's just because you're the same age doesn't mean you're
- 33:26Speaker 3: still at the same ability.
- 33:29Speaker 6: So, I mean, I think I said on the show
- 33:30Speaker 6: before there was even before Bill left here, there's always
- 33:33Speaker 6: part of me that just could see him going to
- 33:35Speaker 6: I said high school football, you know, And I guess
- 33:38Speaker 6: this is the extreme version of it a little bit, But
- 33:40Speaker 6: I don't know. I just I think that it would
- 33:42Speaker 6: be really interesting to see him coaching in this whole
- 33:44Speaker 6: program and what kind of players does he spit out?
- 33:46Speaker 3: And he really didn't develop young.
- 33:48Speaker 6: Players here over the last five years.
- 33:49Speaker 4: So why are you going to play? Are you going
- 33:52Speaker 4: to play the twenty six year old?
- 33:53Speaker 3: Yeah, well, forget about the I would love it if
- 33:57Speaker 3: it started a new trend of older NFL coaches who
- 34:00Speaker 3: go back to college.
- 34:01Speaker 5: I just think it's played a little bit like if
- 34:05Speaker 5: you're I don't know if the authoritarian thing works anymore
- 34:10Speaker 5: in the NFL. I don't know if.
- 34:12Speaker 4: It's certainly going to work with those kids who have
- 34:15Speaker 4: three hundred and fifteen options.
- 34:18Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know about recruiting, but like, once you
- 34:21Speaker 5: get there, you know, I think that that style does
- 34:24Speaker 5: work better with a nineteen year old kid who terrified.
- 34:26Speaker 6: Yeah, who is literally like I mean, like Julian Edelman
- 34:29Speaker 6: talking about coming into the building anymore, he felt sick.
- 34:32Speaker 4: They're entitled. They're not terrified.
- 34:34Speaker 6: I'm saying if he's the coach, you know what I mean, Like,
- 34:36Speaker 6: if you're there at that program, all the hardcore dads
- 34:40Speaker 6: and you're gonna go play for coach Belli, she's gonna
- 34:42Speaker 6: stop you.
- 34:42Speaker 3: Going to make you into an NFL player?
- 34:44Speaker 4: Is the other thing? Fred? That's like hardcore dads of
- 34:47Speaker 4: our age.
- 34:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:48Speaker 4: The dads now are like twenty years younger. They're like,
- 34:52Speaker 4: you're not gonna let them talk to you like that?
- 34:53Speaker 4: Who do I speak to you? Say? The way you
- 34:55Speaker 4: talk to my son, that's what you get.
- 34:57Speaker 3: The mothers will be calling Bill Belichick, Bill, you can't
- 35:01Speaker 3: talk to my son that way.
- 35:02Speaker 5: I mean I just don't feel like that is the
- 35:04Speaker 5: program we're talking about, Like if you were trying to
- 35:07Speaker 5: coach Michigan or Alabama or you know, one of these
- 35:10Speaker 5: blue Bud programs where like these are five star, number
- 35:14Speaker 5: one recruits in their class. Yeah, they have all sorts
- 35:17Speaker 5: of options. The kids that go to North Carolina don't
- 35:20Speaker 5: have all sorts of options, Like they're not having ten
- 35:23Speaker 5: to fifteen offers, you know, from D one schools. It's
- 35:26Speaker 5: North Carolina football. Like the one guy that they were
- 35:29Speaker 5: able to recruit is Drake because he literally was from there,
- 35:32Speaker 5: and his brothers went there, and his father went there,
- 35:35Speaker 5: and everybody went there. And only reason why he went
- 35:37Speaker 5: to North Carolina was because of Mac Brown. If Mac
- 35:40Speaker 5: Brown never goes back to North Carolina, Drake May was
- 35:43Speaker 5: going to go to Alabama and he's gonna play for
- 35:45Speaker 5: Nick Saban. So like, I just I don't I think
- 35:48Speaker 5: that style would work better than like telling a grown
- 35:52Speaker 5: man who's making ten fifteen million dollars a year to
- 35:54Speaker 5: play for in the NFL, Like, you know, you didn't
- 35:57Speaker 5: show up to a meeting on time, so now you're
- 35:59Speaker 5: your bench for the first quarter. Like, I don't think
- 36:02Speaker 5: that that works anymore in the league.
- 36:04Speaker 6: I just I think I think back on Edelman talking
- 36:06Speaker 6: about coming here to this building and feeling like nauseous
- 36:09Speaker 6: every day walking in because you are in a spotlight
- 36:12Speaker 6: with him, and that's you know, that's like, I get
- 36:14Speaker 6: the discipline stuff in your heart ass. But at the
- 36:16Speaker 6: same time, like guys here felt like they constantly had
- 36:19Speaker 6: to be on they get stopped in the hallway. Who's
- 36:21Speaker 6: the Mike linebacker? You know, they feel like kind of thing.
- 36:24Speaker 4: No, I mean he was under no last year under Bill,
- 36:28Speaker 4: that was fifteen years.
- 36:29Speaker 6: I don't know. I don't know that'll make but I'm.
- 36:32Speaker 4: Trying to tell you it's a different I think we're
- 36:34Speaker 4: deal with a different.
- 36:37Speaker 6: Change and justice.
- 36:39Speaker 4: I don't think Bill's willing to change and adjust. I
- 36:41Speaker 4: think the players, if Evan's right, the players at that
- 36:45Speaker 4: age would be more willing to accept it. If I'm right,
- 36:49Speaker 4: they're gonna say, screw that, I had an option to
- 36:52Speaker 4: go to North Carolina or Wake Forest. I'll go to
- 36:55Speaker 4: Wake Forest. Like I get it, You're not dealing with
- 36:58Speaker 4: five star recruits. They have options, they have the they
- 37:02Speaker 4: have a lot of school options, right, and if they're
- 37:05Speaker 4: not good enough to be in the power for then
- 37:07Speaker 4: they'll go to the other the other place. And because
- 37:10Speaker 4: this is passed through the league in a number of places,
- 37:13Speaker 4: I know they'll find you if you can play. But
- 37:15Speaker 4: I don't have to get yelled at every day and
- 37:17Speaker 4: feel nauxious when I go into the facility.
- 37:19Speaker 6: But it's not getting yelled at like it's the point
- 37:21Speaker 6: is that the discipline of the program and the level
- 37:23Speaker 6: that and also the peer prior of them. I don't
- 37:26Speaker 6: care about like the yelling at stuff. I just mean
- 37:29Speaker 6: what he the way he runs his program and the
- 37:31Speaker 6: way he wants his team to prepare.
- 37:33Speaker 3: The expectations are.
- 37:34Speaker 6: Those like are these kids were gonna is he gonna
- 37:37Speaker 6: adjust his level to college kids who have classes as well?
- 37:40Speaker 6: Or is it like you better know who you know
- 37:43Speaker 6: the starting right guard is and what his tendencies are.
- 37:45Speaker 6: You know, I'm sorry you had a chemistry test, but
- 37:47Speaker 6: you know, like that's what I That's what I wonder.
- 37:49Speaker 3: It's at North Carolina when you're coach, you have to
- 37:52Speaker 3: teach a class to will he have to teach history
- 37:54Speaker 3: or something.
- 37:55Speaker 4: I'm with Mike. I think the way that Mike just
- 37:57Speaker 4: finished that up, I just don't see that.
- 37:59Speaker 6: Yeah, because It's just it's hard to see him change
- 38:01Speaker 6: his style.
- 38:01Speaker 3: At the end of the day. I know we're kind
- 38:03Speaker 3: of monopolizing the show with Bill Belichick, but so does
- 38:06Speaker 3: he coach you not coach in twenty twenty five.
- 38:09Speaker 4: I think he's gonna end up getting this job. Okay.
- 38:12Speaker 4: I didn't think that when it first came out. I
- 38:13Speaker 4: was like everybody else like, but I kind of think
- 38:16Speaker 4: he's going to get this job.
- 38:18Speaker 3: I'll be intrigued. I'll be watching.
- 38:20Speaker 4: I'd be much more intrigued if it was an NFL job.
- 38:22Speaker 4: I'm a little disappointed.
- 38:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm a little bit too. I still would like to.
- 38:26Speaker 4: Swell, you know, like a Beatle was saying twelve thirty
- 38:28Speaker 4: on the CW yesterday, like no one's no one's going
- 38:32Speaker 4: to be watching to get some North Carolina hoodies.
- 38:34Speaker 3: Though maybe well listen, there's only three days left. Three
- 38:38Speaker 3: days left, you know what I'm talking about. I'm talking
- 38:41Speaker 3: about the most nail biting action film of the season.
- 38:45Speaker 3: Carry On. Oh, I was told that I said carry
- 38:48Speaker 3: on wrong. I said carry on. It's carry on one
- 38:52Speaker 3: word like the bag.
- 38:55Speaker 6: It's a carry on Winton, not carry on, Cape calm
- 38:59Speaker 6: and carry on.
- 39:01Speaker 4: It's the action to the read before we Get in trouble.
- 39:03Speaker 3: Okay, the most nail biting action film the season. Carry On,
- 39:06Speaker 3: starring Taron Edgerton, Sophia Carson, Jason Bateman, touches down on
- 39:11Speaker 3: Netflix on December thirteenth, So three more days, just in
- 39:15Speaker 3: time for the holidays. Only liquid's allowed, blood, sweat, and tears.
- 39:21Speaker 3: Catch carry On December thirteenth, only on Netflix.
- 39:26Speaker 4: Okay, you know these things intrigued me.
- 39:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:29Speaker 4: So a carry on that you would carry on to
- 39:32Speaker 4: an airplane is pronounced differently than carry on.
- 39:35Speaker 3: Yeah, carry on, So my carry on.
- 39:39Speaker 4: See carry on, I carry on my bring your carry on.
- 39:42Speaker 5: I feel like carry on.
- 39:44Speaker 4: I feel what I'm saying.
- 39:46Speaker 3: But you just said was wrong. But Paul, you just
- 39:49Speaker 3: said that's not You didn't use it as a noun,
- 39:52Speaker 3: used it as a verb. You said, I carry on
- 39:54Speaker 3: my bag. That's not what it is. It's a carry
- 39:57Speaker 3: on my back.
- 39:57Speaker 4: It's my carry on. It's not my carry on. It's
- 40:00Speaker 4: it's my carry on, my carry on bag, my carry
- 40:03Speaker 4: on bag.
- 40:03Speaker 3: Yeah. But but when you say, but when you say
- 40:06Speaker 3: carry on, I'm not changing carry on, carry on, carry on.
- 40:09Speaker 4: Carry on, the conversations, my carry on I'm saying it
- 40:13Speaker 4: the exact putting.
- 40:16Speaker 3: The carrier, Paul, it's different, Larry listen, carry listen, carry on.
- 40:21Speaker 3: Carry You put the emphasis on on when it's a verb.
- 40:25Speaker 4: Okay, on. I don't, but you do.
- 40:28Speaker 3: You just don't. You want to admit it, but you do.
- 40:31Speaker 3: You're just being.
- 40:31Speaker 4: Stubbor the whole thing. That hood I mean, that hood shirt.
- 40:35Speaker 3: That's why, really stubborn.
- 40:37Speaker 4: That's why it's getting under your skin. I'm intrigued by
- 40:40Speaker 4: your your your affects.
- 40:42Speaker 6: Yeah, well it's this doesn't carry it's.
- 40:46Speaker 3: A carry a carry on bag, carry on as opposed
- 40:48Speaker 3: to carry.
- 40:49Speaker 6: On, a carry on bag, carry on.
- 40:52Speaker 4: He can't carry on a conversation, keep carrying on, carry on.
- 40:56Speaker 4: I'm saying it the same, all right.
- 40:58Speaker 3: Well again, yeah, that's exactly.
- 41:03Speaker 4: He still insists that he's right about that.
- 41:05Speaker 3: I am. I am. Our is the same as our No, No.
- 41:14Speaker 4: Those are two different words, different different things.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Is it our house or our house, our our house?
- 41:21Speaker 3: It's our houses, our house, our house. This is our house,
- 41:26Speaker 3: not our house. This is not our house. That's what
- 41:30Speaker 3: you're saying. You're saying our house it's our.
- 41:32Speaker 4: House, or you're saying this.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Is I said our our house.
- 41:38Speaker 4: Yeah aar. So you could be stubborn if you're saying
- 41:40Speaker 4: aar our house.
- 41:42Speaker 3: The same is our house. It's not too syllables.
- 41:48Speaker 4: It's not like if you if you look it up,
- 41:50Speaker 4: it is two syllables. I understand that when you pronounce it,
- 41:53Speaker 4: you say it quickly, so it sounds like one. But
- 41:56Speaker 4: if you looked it up in the dictionary, it would okay,
- 41:58Speaker 4: I think it would give you two.
- 41:59Speaker 3: All right, all right, anyway, yeah, all right, we're gonna
- 42:03Speaker 3: have to take a break.
- 42:03Speaker 4: But you guys think it's okay, like like not okay,
- 42:07Speaker 4: but you thought you think the college part will be
- 42:09Speaker 4: Like I'm disappointed. I really thought he was going to
- 42:13Speaker 4: get a job.
- 42:13Speaker 6: Well, I'm disappointed to disappointed.
- 42:15Speaker 4: I thought it would get an NFL.
- 42:17Speaker 3: Okay, So you could say, well, boy, this must be
- 42:20Speaker 3: a hit on his pride the fact that no NFL team,
- 42:23Speaker 3: But also is it him? And I really, I'm a
- 42:26Speaker 3: football coach.
- 42:28Speaker 4: I don't know what else to do, So go coach Wesleyan. Okay,
- 42:31Speaker 4: but you know I heard my boys on my shows
- 42:35Speaker 4: yesterday and then they you know, like get back to
- 42:37Speaker 4: your roots. If it's just coaching, you want to do
- 42:39Speaker 4: it's just all about coaching and go somewhere where you're
- 42:42Speaker 4: not going to get paid twelve mine.
- 42:43Speaker 3: Maybe he wants the challenge of building a.
- 42:45Speaker 4: Program, go to Wesleyan, win the nest cack.
- 42:48Speaker 3: Okay, you know it's a challenge, A little bit different.
- 42:50Speaker 4: It's a challenge, is it. I don't know. Is Wesleyan
- 42:54Speaker 4: good in the next back?
- 42:54Speaker 3: I know, yeah, I don't.
- 42:56Speaker 5: I'm glad he's not coaching in the NFL if this
- 42:58Speaker 5: is what it is, because watching Brady play for the
- 43:00Speaker 5: Bucks stunk. I hated every minute of that. Like, honestly,
- 43:04Speaker 5: I couldn't even watch ninety percent of his games playing
- 43:07Speaker 5: for Tampa.
- 43:08Speaker 3: I rooted for him. I know.
- 43:10Speaker 5: It's not that I didn't root for him, but I
- 43:11Speaker 5: just I just couldn't stomach it.
- 43:13Speaker 6: I didn't.
- 43:13Speaker 5: Now, I don't have the same attachment to Bill as
- 43:17Speaker 5: I do with Brady. But if you went someplace else
- 43:21Speaker 5: in the NFL and succeeded, we'd never hear the end
- 43:24Speaker 5: of that.
- 43:25Speaker 3: Oh no, So I'm kind of glad well in that case. Yeah,
- 43:28Speaker 3: lets us off the hook. Yeah, all right, I gotta go.
- 43:32Speaker 3: I'm gonna leave the show in the capable hands of
- 43:34Speaker 3: these three want to come back.
- 43:37Speaker 4: More talk about pronunciations.
- 43:39Speaker 3: Well probably not because I'm not here. This is true,

- 44:59Speaker 8: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, oh No,
- 45:04Speaker 8: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 45:07Speaker 8: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx Where
- 45:11Speaker 8: now me? It's next for residential delivery only joy mean?
- 45:15Speaker 9: Now is Pachase quarterback Drake may Good to see you,
- 45:17Speaker 9: my friend, Sarah. Thanks for having me on my pleasure.
- 45:21Speaker 9: Describe what it has been like ever since you got here,
- 45:23Speaker 9: ever since the day you got afted and then came
- 45:26Speaker 9: to New England. Has it been a war win for you?
- 45:28Speaker 10: It's been a war win for sure. I think definitely
- 45:30Speaker 10: a long process to figure out where you're going, and
- 45:33Speaker 10: really I just felt like it's been it's been a blast.
- 45:36Speaker 10: I think if that's first, first and foremost, this this
- 45:40Speaker 10: patriot way, I think getting used to that, getting used
- 45:41Speaker 10: to the culture, getting used to what coach Mayo has
- 45:44Speaker 10: done in his first year, what he's done and what
- 45:45Speaker 10: he's kind of trying to create and just for these players.
- 45:47Speaker 10: You got a lot of veteran guys and kind of
- 45:49Speaker 10: mixed with a young group, so it's trying to mix
- 45:51Speaker 10: it in and come and do my part. And I
- 45:54Speaker 10: think that's been a you know, adjustment for sure from college.
- 45:57Speaker 10: But I think at the same time, we've got something
- 45:58Speaker 10: to look forward here for the Patriots in the future
- 46:00Speaker 10: and looking forward to seeing what that's like.
- 46:02Speaker 9: What has been the biggest surprise making a jump now
- 46:05Speaker 9: that you're here, What didn't you expect?
- 46:09Speaker 10: I just think this is my job, Like this is
- 46:10Speaker 10: you know, every day and no more going to school,
- 46:12Speaker 10: you know what nomore, This is schools over. This is
- 46:14Speaker 10: what I do for, you know, for a living. I
- 46:16Speaker 10: think that's kind of had been an adjustment, but just
- 46:18Speaker 10: kind of a realization that this is what I do.
- 46:20Speaker 10: You know, this is all I got to worry about.
- 46:22Speaker 10: You know, I'm living by myself up here, and you
- 46:23Speaker 10: know it's the kind of playing ball and play in
- 46:25Speaker 10: quarback for the Newington Patriots is basically all I got
- 46:27Speaker 10: to do.
- 46:28Speaker 9: You've played eight games so far. Do you still feel
- 46:30Speaker 9: like you're a rookie?
- 46:31Speaker 3: No doubt.
- 46:32Speaker 10: I think definitely times out there, I still fel like
- 46:33Speaker 10: a rookie. I think he knows it's benefits having you know,
- 46:37Speaker 10: guys like Hunter, Hunter, Henry and even more guys that
- 46:39Speaker 10: May plays and have May played in this league out
- 46:41Speaker 10: there with me and Big Mic up front. So I
- 46:43Speaker 10: think it's been been awesome having guys, you know on
- 46:45Speaker 10: the offense that have you know, May plays and May
- 46:48Speaker 10: plays in Patriots uniforms and that other places that have
- 46:50Speaker 10: kind of helped brought me along. And it's been awesome.
- 46:52Speaker 10: With Jacobe, he's been, he's been, he's been the best,
- 46:55Speaker 10: you know, one of the best teammates that I've ever
- 46:56Speaker 10: been around, and just a mentor to me and you know,
- 46:58Speaker 10: learning how to study the calls, feet and how to
- 47:00Speaker 10: be a quarterback and you know, responsibility comes with being
- 47:02Speaker 10: the quarterback of the newingtonand Patriots. You know obviously here
- 47:04Speaker 10: before and knows what that was like. So it's been
- 47:06Speaker 10: it's been a blast.
- 47:07Speaker 9: You know, you mentioned Jacoby, and I did want to
- 47:09Speaker 9: bring him up because you took his job right, But
- 47:12Speaker 9: you guys have had that bond and that friendship described.
- 47:15Speaker 10: That I think it's just from the from the first
- 47:18Speaker 10: time that I was announced as starter. He came in
- 47:20Speaker 10: and said, hey, Drake, you know this is part of it,
- 47:22Speaker 10: and you know it's not gonna make this awkward. I
- 47:24Speaker 10: think kind of from moment on and he kind of knew,
- 47:26Speaker 10: you know what type of you know, Timmate he was.
- 47:28Speaker 10: And not only that he came in, you know, with
- 47:29Speaker 10: the Jets came for instance, and you know, his opportunity
- 47:32Speaker 10: came when we got knocked out and ended up winning
- 47:34Speaker 10: the ball game for us. So I think it was
- 47:36Speaker 10: just testament to him, testament to I think just our
- 47:39Speaker 10: quarterback room kind of we try to we always try
- 47:41Speaker 10: to keep the vibes up. I think you know a
- 47:42Speaker 10: lot of quarterback rooms out there you don't want, you know,
- 47:45Speaker 10: any awkwardness or kind a hostitity. I think that's uh,
- 47:47Speaker 10: that's been the best thing about you know, having me
- 47:49Speaker 10: and Jacoby and and and Joe and there we we're
- 47:51Speaker 10: cheering for each other, we're pulling for each other, and
- 47:53Speaker 10: kind of see Jacobe on the sideline now with yelling
- 47:55Speaker 10: at the refs and doing all that stuff, fighting for you,
- 47:57Speaker 10: yelling at me to probably change the play at some time.
- 47:59Speaker 10: So he's been he's been awesome.
- 48:01Speaker 9: Hey, Larry Bird, said that at the end of each year,
- 48:05Speaker 9: there's one thing I need to work on. If there's
- 48:07Speaker 9: one thing you need to work on once the season's over,
- 48:09Speaker 9: what would it be.
- 48:11Speaker 10: I think, just still start trying to learn football.
- 48:13Speaker 5: You know, how to learn even though you played it
- 48:15Speaker 5: all your coverages?
- 48:15Speaker 4: Yeah, learn coverages.
- 48:16Speaker 10: Learn you know how these defense are trying to attack me,
- 48:18Speaker 10: or how they're trying to, you know, handle us offensively.
- 48:21Speaker 10: Just still learning more about you know, what they're doing
- 48:23Speaker 10: on the other side of the ball. Only help me.
- 48:26Speaker 10: You'll get to get the checks down faster, get the
- 48:28Speaker 10: hot routes faster, get to get in and out of
- 48:31Speaker 10: plays faster. I think that will all help you know,
- 48:33Speaker 10: down the road. I don't think you know, it's hard
- 48:34Speaker 10: to pinpoint that right now in season, but I think
- 48:36Speaker 10: after the season, I think that could be something that
- 48:38Speaker 10: you always trying to improve as a quarterback.
- 48:39Speaker 9: I joke about this with you, but tell me about
- 48:41Speaker 9: your accent.
- 48:42Speaker 3: Yeah, a little bit down south.
- 48:43Speaker 4: You know, people will always say.
- 48:44Speaker 9: And when you're call him plays huddle, Yeah exactly.
- 48:47Speaker 4: I talk fast.
- 48:48Speaker 10: I can probably sit here, you know, listen to me
- 48:50Speaker 10: talk now, and I talk real fast. And unfortunately my
- 48:52Speaker 10: dad's got to stutter problem. So he passed that down
- 48:54Speaker 10: to me and hopefully it isn't too bad yet.
- 48:56Speaker 9: But no, it's not bad at home.
- 48:57Speaker 10: I think those guys, you know, I think they understand me. Okay,
- 49:00Speaker 10: sometimes I talk fast, but uh that I think in
- 49:03Speaker 10: the place, you know, in the huddle, it's it's important.
- 49:05Speaker 10: I think Coach Mayo preaches every good place or the
- 49:07Speaker 10: good huddle, and you know, kind of got taking that
- 49:11Speaker 10: and and then realize that that's that's true. I think,
- 49:13Speaker 10: you know, a good play call and something is as
- 49:14Speaker 10: little as you know, getting the play out right and
- 49:17Speaker 10: making sure guys that are lined up and just the confidence.
- 49:19Speaker 10: To me, I think it builds a confidence you know,
- 49:20Speaker 10: with a good break and I think that goes a
- 49:22Speaker 10: long way.
- 49:23Speaker 9: You've impressed a lot of people. And the short amount
- 49:25Speaker 9: of time that you've been here, do you hear that noise?
- 49:30Speaker 9: And when you hear it, how does it affect you?
- 49:33Speaker 3: Mm hm, I appreciate.
- 49:34Speaker 10: I think the biggest time that I hear is at
- 49:36Speaker 10: the games. I think the fans are awesome. The fans
- 49:38Speaker 10: are a big time. Even in that way games you
- 49:40Speaker 10: see a lot of Patriots Patriots fans all across the country.
- 49:42Speaker 10: You know, some of the best fans in the NFL,
- 49:43Speaker 10: and I think you know, hearing that, I think, just
- 49:47Speaker 10: you know, don't get you know, on on your high horse.
- 49:49Speaker 10: Don't get to I don't do too low and realize that,
- 49:51Speaker 10: you know. I think these you know what, you know,
- 49:52Speaker 10: my playoffs to turn in some wins at some point.
- 49:54Speaker 10: And I think that's the biggest thing for a quarterback
- 49:57Speaker 10: is is judging, you know, how many wins they got
- 49:58Speaker 10: in the wind call. So we need to do that part.
- 50:01Speaker 9: You mentioned the fans. Is it fun knowing that the
- 50:03Speaker 9: fans really support Drake May?
- 50:05Speaker 10: I think it's awesome. Anytime the fan base is behind you,
- 50:07Speaker 10: I think it's it's it's a good feeling. And like
- 50:10Speaker 10: I said earlier, the responsibility of being only the Patriots
- 50:13Speaker 10: quarterback comes with a lot. So you want, you know,
- 50:15Speaker 10: you want them to have your back and you want to,
- 50:17Speaker 10: you know, put out your best product for them.
- 50:19Speaker 9: How much pressure is there on you knowing that you
- 50:21Speaker 9: are the face of the franchise and do you welcome
- 50:24Speaker 9: in I wouldn't.
- 50:25Speaker 10: I wouldn't call it, you know, pressure. I think it's
- 50:27Speaker 10: a privilege. I think it's a privilege. You know, I
- 50:28Speaker 10: think you work your whole life to get to this moment,
- 50:31Speaker 10: and I think once this moment comes, I don't think
- 50:33Speaker 10: you should lose sight of the fact that this is
- 50:35Speaker 10: what you dreamed about and dreamed about playing the NFL.
- 50:37Speaker 10: And I think having that pressure, I think you turn
- 50:39Speaker 10: into a privilege and hopefully get this thing, get this
- 50:41Speaker 10: thing rolling.
- 50:42Speaker 9: You're a rookie, but you're a quarterback, just got here.
- 50:47Speaker 9: How do you show your leadership skills even though you're young.
- 50:50Speaker 9: You know what I'm saying. When you take over in
- 50:52Speaker 9: that huddle, people are looking at you.
- 50:54Speaker 3: Yees, sir.
- 50:55Speaker 4: That was a battle.
- 50:55Speaker 10: That was a battle early on, you know, trying to
- 50:57Speaker 10: you know, judge the fact of I'm a twenty two
- 50:59Speaker 10: year old probably you know, one of the youngest starting
- 51:01Speaker 10: quarterback in the NFL now, But I got to lead
- 51:04Speaker 10: you know, this, this offense and this team, you know,
- 51:06Speaker 10: with thirty and you know, high twenty year old you
- 51:09Speaker 10: know dudes, and I think I think they've respected. I
- 51:12Speaker 10: think coming here and just work, you know, work hard
- 51:14Speaker 10: and prove them. Hey, youn't want to be some hot
- 51:15Speaker 10: shot rookie coming in as the top you know, one
- 51:18Speaker 10: top overall picks you know, trying to you know, stay show,
- 51:21Speaker 10: voting around. I think coming to work. I think that's
- 51:24Speaker 10: kind of the Patriot model. You know, hard work works
- 51:26Speaker 10: what coach Mao preaches, and I try to take that,
- 51:29Speaker 10: take that motto and use my advantage of earned the
- 51:31Speaker 10: guys respect and then from there create kind of your
- 51:34Speaker 10: own relationships with the guys. And I think you can
- 51:35Speaker 10: kind of reach each guy differently, you know, based on
- 51:38Speaker 10: your relationship and kind of earn their respect. And then
- 51:40Speaker 10: as more and more goes on, I think you kind
- 51:42Speaker 10: of lead and kind of speak more and talk more
- 51:44Speaker 10: in the huddle and talk more in meeting rooms. A
- 51:46Speaker 10: little things like that.
- 51:47Speaker 9: I love your demeanor. I love the poise that you have.
- 51:50Speaker 9: You know you have. There's a calmness about you on
- 51:52Speaker 9: the football field. Even when things go wrong, you have
- 51:54Speaker 9: tendency to settle things down. There's also a leniency, leniency
- 51:59Speaker 9: that people have because you're a rookie. But when you
- 52:02Speaker 9: look at the coaching staff, do you want the coaches
- 52:04Speaker 9: to be hard on you? Do you expect that?
- 52:06Speaker 10: I think you expect to be you know, coach TRD,
- 52:08Speaker 10: I think that's what you want, That's what you want
- 52:10Speaker 10: in you know, any player you know, no matter you
- 52:12Speaker 10: know how great or how many, how much success you've had,
- 52:15Speaker 10: do you want to be coach tard? Do you want
- 52:16Speaker 10: to be tree to like all the other guys in
- 52:18Speaker 10: the locker room, no matter what position. I think you know,
- 52:21Speaker 10: for a quarterback, I think you need to be met
- 52:22Speaker 10: probably coach the hardest.
- 52:23Speaker 4: I think that's what.
- 52:24Speaker 10: My dad kind of uh at a young agent stilled
- 52:27Speaker 10: and me and my brothers. You know, he was mostly
- 52:30Speaker 10: our coaches growing up in U sports, and he coached
- 52:31Speaker 10: us harder than you know, the other kids. And you
- 52:33Speaker 10: respected that from from my dad and kind of tasks, Hey,
- 52:36Speaker 10: this is a part of it's on you. I'm thinking
- 52:38Speaker 10: of the pressure, Like you mentioned the pressure earlier, the
- 52:40Speaker 10: pressures you're on you. So I think it's your time
- 52:43Speaker 10: to you'll be confident in yourself and and trust your
- 52:45Speaker 10: teamates and coaches around you.
- 52:46Speaker 9: Last question, if you could go back over the past,
- 52:50Speaker 9: all the football players that you grew up watching, if
- 52:52Speaker 9: you could throw a touchdown pass to one receiver, who
- 52:56Speaker 9: would you pick?
- 52:56Speaker 10: M I grew up a Panthers friend, and me and
- 53:00Speaker 10: my me and my older brothers love Steve Smith, So
- 53:02Speaker 10: I'll probably say Steve Smith. He's a great watching him
- 53:04Speaker 10: and Ice up Son and his whole model was pretty.
- 53:07Speaker 3: Cool growing up.
- 53:08Speaker 9: Enjoyed it, bye week, Appreciate it, Yes, yes, sir.
- 53:12Speaker 4: And now great moments in.
- 53:17Speaker 3: History. A lot of emails coming in at web radio
- 53:20Speaker 3: Patriots dot com. That's web radio at Patriots dot com. Eric,
- 53:23Speaker 3: that's enough from.
- 53:24Speaker 4: You, that's our sting, that's our feelings.
- 53:28Speaker 3: It spread.
- 53:29Speaker 4: He really is a minute, Wait a minute, wait a minute.
- 53:31Speaker 4: We've been saying so read some for years on this show.
- 53:34Speaker 4: That's not pre thing. He wouldn't have said that if
- 53:36Speaker 4: he wasn't very good about himself.
- 53:38Speaker 5: I say it every show.
- 53:39Speaker 4: It's Cam Newton.
- 53:41Speaker 5: You look at me and give me the nod whenever
- 53:43Speaker 5: he says that, so that I can say that line.
- 53:45Speaker 6: Not today.
- 53:46Speaker 4: So who's going to take more credit? Andy Hart?
- 53:50Speaker 11: Uh?
- 53:50Speaker 4: There our buddies Phil Perry and Tom Curran who are
- 53:53Speaker 4: making the rounds already. Eric, Who's who flexes best? Because
- 53:58Speaker 4: these guys were at the forefront of the well and
- 54:01Speaker 4: Mac express Andy flex's best. It'll be the most obnoxious
- 54:04Speaker 4: about it. Well, he flexes most, that's for sure.
- 54:06Speaker 2: That's another great moment from all right.
- 54:12Speaker 6: It's easy to drink easy to enjoy bud Light, the
- 54:14Speaker 6: official beer sponsor of the New England Patriots. Welcome back
- 54:16Speaker 6: to hour two. And that's right, folks, Deuce is in
- 54:18Speaker 6: the host seat. We're going off the rails.
- 54:20Speaker 4: No, Fred, we don't know. We're going to be fast
- 54:23Speaker 4: and loose. You don't know what could happen in the
- 54:24Speaker 4: last hollar.
- 54:25Speaker 6: Don't know what I'm gonna say, but I hope I'll
- 54:26Speaker 6: get in trouble. That's all I know. Now we're gonna
- 54:30Speaker 6: have some some fun. We obviously we talked a lot
- 54:32Speaker 6: about Bill would love to hear from you, guys. Give
- 54:34Speaker 6: us a call on the TPX hotline, which is eight
- 54:37Speaker 6: five to five, Pats five hundred. Shoot us an email,
- 54:40Speaker 6: Patriot what is it? Web radio at Pictures, Podcasts at
- 54:45Speaker 6: Patriots dot com. It's been a while. The Deuceman is
- 54:47Speaker 6: hosted Michael. But I'm feeling good. I'm feeling refreshed.
- 54:50Speaker 4: How was your bye week?
- 54:51Speaker 3: Guys?
- 54:51Speaker 6: We didn't have any.
- 54:52Speaker 5: Personal catch up times anecdotes. Have an anecdotal anecdote.
- 54:55Speaker 6: Watch some football?
- 54:56Speaker 4: How was that was your I enjoyed the red Zone Sunday. Yeah,
- 55:01Speaker 4: you know, some good games and yeah, I was like
- 55:03Speaker 4: everybody else. I was, you know, intrigued by the shootout
- 55:06Speaker 4: with the ROMs and the Bills. I really do feel
- 55:11Speaker 4: like I might need to provide a service on clock management,
- 55:15Speaker 4: though you might. There's stuff that just drives me crazy.
- 55:18Speaker 4: I don't know if you guys caught the end of
- 55:20Speaker 4: the Jets and Dolphins.
- 55:22Speaker 3: I did.
- 55:22Speaker 6: I watched. I did watch the end of that.
- 55:23Speaker 4: Actually, So what was the major mistake the end of
- 55:25Speaker 4: regulation that the Jets made.
- 55:27Speaker 6: I'm blaring watch a few is that what it was?
- 55:31Speaker 4: It's third and like they got backed up. I think
- 55:34Speaker 4: they I think they got sacked and had a penalty
- 55:36Speaker 4: or whatever. It was third and like eighteen or something
- 55:38Speaker 4: like that. They were on the edge of field goal
- 55:41Speaker 4: range long field goal. If they didn't get a yard,
- 55:46Speaker 4: the Dolphins are out of timeouts. You got like a
- 55:48Speaker 4: minute left, run the ball, get four or five yards.
- 55:53Speaker 4: If you throw it a screen that the guy and
- 55:57Speaker 4: the guy is told under no uncertain terms, you stay
- 55:59Speaker 4: in bounds. You cannot allow the clock to stop. They
- 56:03Speaker 4: throw like a maybe an eight ten yard out. Was
- 56:07Speaker 4: it a back shoulder fade to DeVante Adams catches, it
- 56:12Speaker 4: goes out of bounds. This allows the Dolphins to then
- 56:16Speaker 4: allow the field goal and then go down the field
- 56:18Speaker 4: and tie the game with a field goal, you know,
- 56:20Speaker 4: helped by a good kick return, which is another mistake.
- 56:24Speaker 4: Just just boot the ball out of the end zone
- 56:26Speaker 4: and give them the ball to thirty. I don't know
- 56:28Speaker 4: how this suddenly because of the Chiefs thing. The kickoff
- 56:32Speaker 4: thing is a different thing, but anyway, they should have
- 56:35Speaker 4: just made sure the clock continue to run that way
- 56:37Speaker 4: they're gonna be. They had an opportunity to run the
- 56:40Speaker 4: clock down I would say under fifteen seconds.
- 56:42Speaker 5: It was twelve seconds.
- 56:43Speaker 4: Somebody did to kick the field goal that way. Even
- 56:46Speaker 4: if you miss it, well, there's ten seconds left now.
- 56:50Speaker 4: So if there was twelve seconds when they kick the
- 56:51Speaker 4: field goal, field goal is going to take at least
- 56:53Speaker 4: a couple seconds off the clock. So the Dolphins get
- 56:55Speaker 4: a hail Mary. Yeah, you know, just dumb, really really dumb.
- 57:00Speaker 4: The kickoff thing is starting to bother me because Buffalo
- 57:04Speaker 4: did that in Kansas City and the playoffs. They just
- 57:07Speaker 4: did the touchback and everybody killed him for it. Remember,
- 57:10Speaker 4: well a lot a couple more seconds is that really worth?
- 57:14Speaker 4: Like the opportunity that the Dolphins had to run to
- 57:17Speaker 4: return the kick to about midfield. Is that worth running
- 57:20Speaker 4: the seconds off giving up potentially twenty twenty five yards.
- 57:24Speaker 5: I think you need to know your opponent, right, Like
- 57:27Speaker 5: the Dolphins have explosive players all over the place, like
- 57:30Speaker 5: Lake Washington is basically like a light version of Tyreek
- 57:34Speaker 5: Kill and Jalen Waddle. So you give those guys opportunities
- 57:37Speaker 5: to return the ball there maybe against another team that
- 57:40Speaker 5: doesn't have an electric returner. He's one of the better
- 57:43Speaker 5: returners in the league.
- 57:44Speaker 4: Anyway, that was one game that really stood up.
- 57:46Speaker 6: I thought you were going to say the Bills trying
- 57:49Speaker 6: to sneak it. Then I thought that was so.
- 57:51Speaker 4: That was a dumb play too. But that wasn't necessarily
- 57:54Speaker 4: a clock management. It was a dumb play call. This
- 57:59Speaker 4: is this is good. You open up, open up can
- 58:02Speaker 4: of worms, and I like those. He likes me. I
- 58:05Speaker 4: do because these are the things that interest me. So
- 58:09Speaker 4: the analytics people, yes, right, Hi, So they ran me.
- 58:13Speaker 4: They ran four quarterback sneaks in that game from the
- 58:17Speaker 4: one yard line. They scored touchdowns on three of them.
- 58:20Speaker 4: So the analytics people will tell you next week. I
- 58:22Speaker 4: have when we when we decide whether or not what
- 58:24Speaker 4: we want to do seventy five percent chance where you
- 58:27Speaker 4: get a touchdown. It doesn't take into consideration clock situation.
- 58:33Speaker 4: When you get stopped, you ended the game. So the
- 58:36Speaker 4: only thing that Brady has said live right at the
- 58:40Speaker 4: time that had any relevance whatsoever in his thirteen weeks
- 58:43Speaker 4: as a color analyst, they just lost it. As soon
- 58:45Speaker 4: as it happened, he was on it and said they
- 58:47Speaker 4: may have just lost the game because he left open
- 58:51Speaker 4: the possibility that they could recover the on side kick. Dumb, dumb,
- 58:55Speaker 4: dumb play call. If you put yourself in this either
- 59:00Speaker 4: that if they want to run that quarterback sneak, you
- 59:03Speaker 4: have to do so prepared that if we don't get
- 59:05Speaker 4: in for whatever reason, we're rushing to the line and
- 59:08Speaker 4: running it again. You cannot take the time out because
- 59:13Speaker 4: because now you've lost the opportunity to get the ball
- 59:15Speaker 4: back unless you get a fluke on sidekick. So I
- 59:18Speaker 4: agree with everybody that's been killing ra for that one.
- 59:21Speaker 5: It's a tough one with McDermott because they're a wagon,
- 59:25Speaker 5: I mean most of the time, and they're what ten
- 59:27Speaker 5: and three the bills, and it's hard to fire a
- 59:29Speaker 5: coach that has you five straight division titles. Ten plus
- 59:35Speaker 5: wins every single year. But it just doesn't feel like
- 59:38Speaker 5: they're going to ever get over the hump with him
- 59:40Speaker 5: as the head coach.
- 59:41Speaker 4: Because they hard to argue. Hard to argue they have
- 59:44Speaker 4: all the talent.
- 59:45Speaker 6: Two different reasons though, but I mean San Francisco Cincinnati
- 59:48Speaker 6: underperforming this year. I mean San Francisco killed with injuries,
- 59:51Speaker 6: of course. But I just found myself last night just wondering,
- 59:54Speaker 6: like why why are the Bengals having such a bad year,
- 59:57Speaker 6: you know, like why, like they have all the pieces,
- 59:58Speaker 6: all the things that we desperately covet and we want their.
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: They had a bad summer.
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: They have a bad defense.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: They had a bad summer and it's spilled over and
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: it got them into a hole and now they can't
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: fix the defense.
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: The defense is really you said it, lou I mean yeah,
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: Louiel Rimo is at the top of a lot of
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: people's head coaching lists for this next cycle. The Bengals
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: defensive coordinator and their defense has completely fallen apart. I mean,
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: he was considered one of the best defensive in football
- 1:00:26Speaker 5: just last year during the playoffs, and now all of
- 1:00:28Speaker 5: a sudden that he is I don't even know if
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: he's gonna get interviews like this time.
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: Secondary is a mess.
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: Yeah, their defense is a total mess. And really in
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: the pass rush, Trey Henderson's all they have and every
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: team knows it. So like you just getting all sorts
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: of attention from the opponent because he's a one man
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: pass rush. So their defense is that, I mean's Cooper rush.
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: Like it's not that they're playing.
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: It right down the field.
- 1:00:49Speaker 4: In the game, I was like, whoa, they got right
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: down there and I didn't see how they got that.
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: They were inside the ten. The next time they had
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: the ball. Would they turn it over fourth down?
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: No?
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: I think they know.
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: The interception interception was kind of the ball interception a
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: little close.
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I didn't. I didn't see it. I wasn't watching
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: the game that intently.
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: But it's just like it's frustrating to watch that as
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: a Patriots fan because so much of our conversation that
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: we talk about it's like, how do we get that receiver?
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: How do we know fix these tackles? And you know,
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: I feel like Cincinnati's kind of been trying to do
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: that for like three years, and they've had the pieces
- 1:01:18Speaker 6: in place. They've had not one number one, but they've
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: had another guy that a lot of people around here.
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: To realize their offense is among the most productive.
- 1:01:25Speaker 6: Oh yeah, no, I know, And that's that's what That's
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: exactly what I'm saying.
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: If they if they were eight and five instead of
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: five and eight, Joe Burrow be in the top three
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: for MVP, it would be And.
- 1:01:34Speaker 6: That's that's what my point is. It's like, you're trying
- 1:01:37Speaker 6: to so you've kind of solved a lot of the
- 1:01:39Speaker 6: problems that we have, but like it's still like something's missing, you.
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: Know, and it's they got the best offensive.
- 1:01:43Speaker 6: Joe Burrow's playing an MVP level, Jamar Chase's you know,
- 1:01:46Speaker 6: torching the league yet again, you know, and they've i know,
- 1:01:49Speaker 6: they've had problems that tackle, and you know, that's been
- 1:01:51Speaker 6: an ongoing process for them, which is also a concern for.
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: Me because that's what we talk about.
- 1:01:56Speaker 6: We talked about Amarus Mims last year. You know, we
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: had Trent Brown here. You know, they went out and
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: signed I mean, that's part of the part of the
- 1:02:03Speaker 6: the hard Dogs I'm watching where Pittsburgh's talking about.
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: They couldn't block Alt's tiresmith, so they got to go
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: get this guy on let you know.
- 1:02:09Speaker 6: That's the that's my Mike Tomlin. So you know, it's
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: just it's just kind of a reminder staring you right
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: in the face that even when you have a quarterback
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: who is elite, you got to not just one weapon,
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: but two. You've got a sweetheart defensive coordinator, you got
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: a tight pants guy, your head coach.
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: I mean, like all the things claim Zach Taylor, and no,
- 1:02:26Speaker 5: I know.
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: Bart and I know he's outside of the tree.
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: Is technically Sean McVay tree, but we Zach.
- 1:02:36Speaker 6: Is more like a clothes line.
- 1:02:38Speaker 5: We don't claim Zach Taylor. He's like he's like more
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: like he's like, yeah, he's like the twig off to
- 1:02:43Speaker 5: the side of the tree that's like technically under the tree,
- 1:02:46Speaker 5: but it's not in the tree.
- 1:02:47Speaker 6: But you guys get what I'm saying. Like they have
- 1:02:49Speaker 6: all the things that we talk about and like it's
- 1:02:51Speaker 6: but they.
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: Don't have a defense. And when they have the defense,
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: they were Super Bowl team. So like that's what I them.
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: Kind of like, if we got it this year and
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: then this got hurt. I don't follow the Bengals personnel
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: closely enough to know how it fell in two years
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: from Super Bowl AFC Championship to can't stop a noseblay.
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: I don't know how that happens. And I know they
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: lost Jesse Bates and like you know, some other but
- 1:03:14Speaker 4: like this not they still have some good players in that.
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: You know, they have Logan Wilson, I know he's out now,
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: you know, with Hubbard and and Hendrickson and Henderson's had
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: a good years weird like, but they have no they
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: have no secondary at all.
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: It's just interesting the you know, we're getting into this
- 1:03:31Speaker 5: draft stuff. I know, sorry Paul, but one of the
- 1:03:33Speaker 5: big conversations I feel like we're gonna have is what
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: the Bengals and the and the Lions had. You know
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: with the Jamar Chase draft was Penny sewel versus Jamar Chase.
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: And but do you take the franchise tackle or you
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: take the franchise receiver? And I just look at the
- 1:03:46Speaker 5: Bengals and it's a little bit of a cautionary tale
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: to me about taking the receiver because as great as
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: he is, and he might be the best receiver in
- 1:03:54Speaker 5: the league there right now, they're twenty ninth and pass
- 1:03:57Speaker 5: blocking win rate. Just looked it up after last night
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: their thirty first and run blocking win rate. They have
- 1:04:02Speaker 5: one of the worst offensive lines in football. Joe Burrow
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: has never really been.
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: Amazing that you can score forty a game with the
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: worst offensive line in football.
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: We're saying he's never actually really been well protected. I
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: would say his entire career. I totally agree, and it's
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: there have been injuries as a result of that. They
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: lost a year last year because of an injury to
- 1:04:21Speaker 5: Joe Burrow. I'm not saying it's right or wrong because
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: Chase is so good that they had two elite guys
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: and they picked one of the of the two elite guys.
- 1:04:30Speaker 5: But when you talk about how you want the Patriots
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: to build this team, it's a core philosophy. I still
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: think building through the trenches is the most important thing
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: other than quarterback, of course, and I think the Bengals
- 1:04:41Speaker 5: are a great example of that. They have all the
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: toys in the world. They have all the toys in
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: the world, and they can't win and see.
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: But I think it's hard to say that they can't
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: win when they have won. They've been to the Super
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: Bowl in the Conference championship in consecutive years. Detroit hasn't
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: done that they took a lineman not yet. I mean
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: I understand that, but like, let's put it this way,
- 1:05:04Speaker 4: to use your example. If that's the choice I have,
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: Jamar Chase a panty school. I'm feeling great. I can't lose, right.
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: I don't think there's a wrong choice. Like I'm going
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: to get two studs, potential Hall of Fame players no
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: matter who I take, and they're really going to help
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: my team. Like now you can get into a philosophical
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: conversation and and obviously feels the trenches are more important.
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: I don't think he's wrong. I don't I don't think
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: I wouldn't say you're wrong, But I just I don't
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: think that with the way the Bengals did it was
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: wrong either it worked, it wasn't wrong. It worked, it
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: wasn't wrong.
- 1:05:38Speaker 5: I think you just talk about sustainability and like long
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: term success. When you look a year over year, the
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: teams that have the best line play are typically the
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: teams that are consistent every single year. Like there's a
- 1:05:50Speaker 5: reason why it's Lions, Eagles, Chiefs, Baltimore.
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: Fall apart last year.
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: I mean they fell apart for reasons though, But what
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: I would so what I would say is no one's
- 1:06:05Speaker 5: immune to it, Like even if you build through the
- 1:06:07Speaker 5: trenches and you have this rock solid offensive and defensive line, you.
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: Still just like everybody else and you can lose it,
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: you know, And you're right, it was a culture thing.
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: Evan's got it nailed like it was total Sirianni Jalen
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: Hurts were button heads. I see signs this AJ Brown stuff.
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: What do we have to do. We've got to improve
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: the passing game. They've won like nine million games in
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: a row and this is what they guy this like.
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: And I know, Mike, this is right up your rally
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: because this is what I don't want.
- 1:06:34Speaker 6: To Brown's like for him, I'm willing to overlook that.
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: But like Evans nailed it, like it's a culture thing,
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: like you never know what's gonna upset the Apple card.
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: But even with the Bengals, I feel like they've been
- 1:06:47Speaker 6: having the same conversation about protection since they got you,
- 1:06:49Speaker 6: and they're aware of it. They're trying to fix it
- 1:06:52Speaker 6: every year.
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: They're draft every year a good defense, it doesn't matter.
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: But this year they're just like a train run.
- 1:06:57Speaker 5: They have identity. They have gone after offensive lineman with
- 1:07:01Speaker 5: high end resources.
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: I like that. I think he's gonna be a good player.
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: I know he hasn't been great.
- 1:07:06Speaker 5: Yeah Mims, I mean even guys like our dude Ted Carris,
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: Like it was not a big contract, but they still
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: sign and prioritized him in free agency a couple of
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: years ago. Like they draft Mims in the first round,
- 1:07:19Speaker 5: they pay a tackle. They bring in Trent Brown as
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: the third tackle, like they've tried, and they just can't
- 1:07:25Speaker 5: as protect. And I'd say the same thing for Kansas City,
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: Like it hasn't been first round picks necessarily yet for
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: the Chiefs, which I'm sure will be. But the Chiefs
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: they brought in guys too, you know, Sue Mattia, Wanya
- 1:07:35Speaker 5: Morris now DJ Humphries, Jwan Taylor was a big free
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: agent signing. They can't pass protect anybody either.
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: I see that. The clips, excuse me, they were showing
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: Sunday Night of Taylor. He's the one on the right side, right, yeah,
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: and they were showing how he know he lines up properly,
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: just like good for you. I now line up on
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: the line of scrimmage. He still gets the false start
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: a lot though, Yeah they didn't. They don't call it
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: all the time. Did you see by the way, You know,
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: they want to talk about some of these these plays
- 1:08:04Speaker 4: that you get, you know, like, what was the game?
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: And now I'm forgetting it? Oh, the Rams. Everybody wants
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: to talk about all these teams, they get all the calls.
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: Kansas City, you know, Josh Allen flops all while you
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: got that kind of bogus horse calle. Do you see that?
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: Yeah, And really I don't think it was a horse caller.
- 1:08:23Speaker 4: It was kind of a shaky call. Biggest play of
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: the game. Fourth and five, the Rams go for it
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: the left the right tackle moved about twenty minutes before
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: the ball was snapped. Ye, well it wasn't even close.
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: First he's leaning and then he just flat out was
- 1:08:36Speaker 4: in his no no call. Fourth and ten. They probably
- 1:08:39Speaker 4: kicked the field goal. That's a big play. That's that.
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: That was the game.
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: The calls for the Chiefs don't bother me as much
- 1:08:46Speaker 5: as they do for other people. Actually might be surprising, because.
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: I just hate officiating in general, and I think that
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: I don't think that they favor any team. No, I
- 1:08:53Speaker 4: just think they're in competent.
- 1:08:54Speaker 5: I don't I don't care about the calls that they
- 1:08:57Speaker 5: get and everybody gets what what what irks me about
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: the Chiefs? I watched their games and defensively they're they're good,
- 1:09:04Speaker 5: but offensively it just doesn't feel like they ever play
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: very well. And he makes one freaking play on the
- 1:09:10Speaker 5: Travis Kelcey at the end of the game to get
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: a first down so that they can just note the.
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: Clock Worthy before that. Yeah, like they they showed and
- 1:09:17Speaker 4: I saw sweet Lotule Riddick had a great clip on
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: on the Twitter machine. I mean the Chargers defended that
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: play so well. Yeah, and Mahomes just says, that's that
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: was cute. You did a good job, you took that away. Whatever,
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: and he like slides around and moves, he jumps and
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: he makes the throw and Worthy, you know, just kind
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: of like settles down. That was a third and long
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: like they don't they got a punt.
- 1:09:44Speaker 5: It's like it's like two or three plays a game
- 1:09:46Speaker 5: that Mahomes makes offensively and that's all that he needs.
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: This is why I get in arguments with people that like,
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: tell me how bad he's been this year and I
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: don't care what his numbers are, Like, watch the games
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: when the games are on the line. Yeah, every week
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: you watch the highlights and he's running thirty yards to
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: set up a field goal. He's making that play that
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: he's talked that Evan's talking about to Kelsey. That's the
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: difference between given the charges two minutes to go down
- 1:10:08Speaker 4: and take the lead, or I'm going to kick a
- 1:10:10Speaker 4: field goal in the last play of the game instead.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: You know, that's the difference between the Jets and the
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: Dolphins in that game, Like that, converting that play is
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: the difference. Like you have the winning points already, but
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: I'm going to make sure I take the time off too.
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: Mahomes does that every week. It's amazing.
- 1:10:27Speaker 6: Yeah, fricking juju, like every time he catches his best
- 1:10:29Speaker 6: And like I, I.
- 1:10:31Speaker 5: Don't know the one thing about the Chiefs too, because
- 1:10:34Speaker 5: I have to defend the wall a little bit. I
- 1:10:36Speaker 5: hear a lot of like, oh, the you know, this
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: season is a lot like like the Patriots and Paul,
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: You're you're better at this stuff than I am remembering
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: all the years, but like I just the Patriots are
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: more dominant than this, Like the Patriots were in one
- 1:10:48Speaker 5: score games every single week season.
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: The year that would be a little like this was
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: OZ three. Yeah, where you know first two offensive plays
- 1:10:58Speaker 4: of the game against the Giants at home, the Giants
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: fumble and the Patriots pick it up and run it back,
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: and you know, and that's like the only scoring in
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: the game. They won, like seventeen to three or whatever,
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: and it would happen week after week after week. I
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: don't remember as many fluky like last play of the
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: game kind of things like banking the field goal in
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: blocking a chip shot that they did against denv in
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: one year. I remember individual games throughout the run, but
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: I don't remember as many fluky wins in one season
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: as Kansas City's had this year.
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: I think it's like, which way do you lean? Do
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: you lean towards? This is a team that just knows
- 1:11:37Speaker 6: how to win, and they pull it out and when
- 1:11:39Speaker 6: it's on the line, they make the plays. Or do
- 1:11:41Speaker 6: you are you a little worried that it's a very
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: thin margin of victory for them and it's probably gonna
- 1:11:45Speaker 6: come down to one or two plays.
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: I don't feel great about them, and I don't have
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: the hatred because I respect greatness, I really do, and
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: I don't have the hatred for that for them that
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: a lot of other people do. It's kind of the
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: same with Manning. Like I didn't hate Peyton Manning the
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: way a lot of other people did. I just can't
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: imagine that you're gonna win like this every week. If
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: they don't get the offense straightened out, someone's gonna beat
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: them in the playoffespecially with.
- 1:12:10Speaker 6: The offenses they're gonna have to go against, right Like
- 1:12:11Speaker 6: I mean.
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: I mean, it could be a situation where it's like
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: they get a weather game, you know, at home in
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: Kansas City and January. But like you talk about winning
- 1:12:19Speaker 5: a super Bowl like that or whether it's not going
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: to be a factor once you get to the super Bowl.
- 1:12:24Speaker 5: I just think a better off intive team will, like
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: they gonna Detroit score in thirty a game, Like if
- 1:12:29Speaker 5: they played Detroit in the super Bowl, They're not gonna
- 1:12:31Speaker 5: win that game seventeen fourteen. They're gonna have to win
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: that game twenty eight, twenty four You know, are they
- 1:12:36Speaker 5: gonna be able to do that? I don't know, but
- 1:12:38Speaker 5: I I just look at this Chiefs team this year,
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: and this has been pretty fluky, Like they've had.
- 1:12:43Speaker 4: Some very really fluky.
- 1:12:45Speaker 5: Really fluky bounces. Now they would probably still be nine
- 1:12:49Speaker 5: and five or ten and three or whatever the math is.
- 1:12:51Speaker 5: But they twelve and one is is fluky.
- 1:12:55Speaker 6: So jump over to the TPX hotline here see if
- 1:12:58Speaker 6: Aiden's still holding on? Hey, Aiden, are you there?
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: Aiden?
- 1:13:04Speaker 6: Aiden, I'm gonna do like Fred, you know, like your dad. Aiden,
- 1:13:09Speaker 6: get my glasses?
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: All right?
- 1:13:10Speaker 6: Sorry, Aiden, all right, I'll try Sean. He's been holding
- 1:13:12Speaker 6: a little shorter down in South Florida.
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: Player from Broxton is going to be well, yeah, all right.
- 1:13:18Speaker 12: I'm sorry has left because I had a couple of things.
- 1:13:21Speaker 13: Hopefully there about it.
- 1:13:22Speaker 12: I'm visiting my brother I live in Vancouver, and and
- 1:13:25Speaker 12: uh in on his floor. The washing and drying machine are.
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: Both beefere you go.
- 1:13:31Speaker 12: There's a non differend recommendation. Now in terms of a
- 1:13:35Speaker 12: movie on the plane on Friday, I want to watch
- 1:13:38Speaker 12: carry On on Netflix because it's going to be on
- 1:13:40Speaker 12: on Friday and that's what I'm flying to feed it.
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: But the best carry on bring your carry on in
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: the again, bring your carry on.
- 1:13:49Speaker 12: I think I'm just gonna bring a personal bag because
- 1:13:51Speaker 12: it's such a short trip.
- 1:13:54Speaker 6: One personal item, yeah, one personally.
- 1:13:58Speaker 12: But yeah, the best movies I've seen so far this
- 1:14:00Speaker 12: year are Conclave and Saturday Night. So he can rent
- 1:14:03Speaker 12: those those will be and make it enjoyable.
- 1:14:05Speaker 13: Plight.
- 1:14:06Speaker 4: I'm so old, I've never even heard of either one
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: of those best movies of the year.
- 1:14:12Speaker 12: Yeah, Conclave is it's a great vines and uh Samley
- 1:14:16Speaker 12: Tucci it's it's really good.
- 1:14:17Speaker 13: It's it's about a new.
- 1:14:19Speaker 12: Pope, like electing a new pope, and Saturday Night's about dialog.
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: But anyway, I did hear it. I heard that was terrible.
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: I read a review about that movie, and I heard
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: it was really really bad.
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: I believe it.
- 1:14:31Speaker 12: Well, that guy probably doesn't like The Cient Live. I'm
- 1:14:33Speaker 12: a huge I've seen every episode since it starts.
- 1:14:36Speaker 6: But anyway, Wow, that's pretty good shot.
- 1:14:40Speaker 12: I'd like to see. I don't know if it will
- 1:14:41Speaker 12: ever happen, but I'd love to see Belichick coach the Giant.
- 1:14:43Speaker 12: You know, maybe he can improve them for a few years,
- 1:14:46Speaker 12: then get the record and then he can retire.
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: That.
- 1:14:48Speaker 12: That's what I really like that guy. And how with
- 1:14:51Speaker 12: the Washington Husky they're not doing well this season, but
- 1:14:54Speaker 12: it's not their defense. I've see Steve Belichick has done
- 1:14:57Speaker 12: a good job. I love him to, you know, move
- 1:14:59Speaker 12: up and eventually get a head coaching job.
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: Would like eventually.
- 1:15:04Speaker 6: Yeah, thanks Sean, Thanks Sean, Thanks Sean she Is.
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: I have heard that that Steve's done a decent job.
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: They were saying that on the radio today.
- 1:15:14Speaker 5: Washington Football. But I have heard that.
- 1:15:15Speaker 6: I flipped them on a couple of times, specifically just
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: to see kind of what he was doing with their defense.
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: And yeah, it's uh no, nothing crazy.
- 1:15:22Speaker 5: Those were not the best movies I've seen this year.
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: Yeah, forty nine to Oregon.
- 1:15:26Speaker 6: I haven't forty nine.
- 1:15:28Speaker 5: That's good, Well, it's Oregon the country.
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: Thirty five to Penn State.
- 1:15:33Speaker 6: Which, uh that quarterback is speaking? Am I allowed to
- 1:15:36Speaker 6: talk about this? I guys, I watched them college football?
- 1:15:39Speaker 6: Did you watch? I did? I watched did you Oregon?
- 1:15:42Speaker 6: Penn State? Yeah? And what was the other one I watched?
- 1:15:44Speaker 6: I watched Georgia. No, Georgia Texas, Georgia Texas.
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:49Speaker 6: I watched both those up in my my ski condo.
- 1:15:52Speaker 6: It was very fun. I don't have any I say, no,
- 1:15:57Speaker 6: I just say college football is so crazy. Every time
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: I watch it, I'm just like, this is the Wild West.
- 1:16:01Speaker 6: Like it's just big plays, penalties, turnovers, craziness, points being
- 1:16:06Speaker 6: scored left and right. But it's I had fun. I
- 1:16:08Speaker 6: had fun watching it. That That Oregon Penn State game
- 1:16:10Speaker 6: was I mean, freaking Oregon looked like a machine.
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: I mean, they's defense had to be wretchedly bad in
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: that game because Penn State can't score like that.
- 1:16:18Speaker 6: No, the Penn State they struggled a little bit.
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: Seven.
- 1:16:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I didn't watch. I've only watched the first half.
- 1:16:25Speaker 6: But yeah, Penn State's tight end was pretty good.
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: And he's good, yeah player, Tyler Warren. They use him
- 1:16:30Speaker 4: a little bit of quarterback.
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: It's not quite as bad as Malik Neighbors deuce, but
- 1:16:34Speaker 5: like being up to date on Tyler Warren.
- 1:16:37Speaker 6: All right, all right, well I did watch.
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: I was watching a little of my lat too.
- 1:16:42Speaker 6: Well, to be fair, I was watching Abdull Carter. That's
- 1:16:44Speaker 6: kind of like all right, so I wanted, you know,
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: to see him a little bit. And yeah, they were
- 1:16:48Speaker 6: just I mean they they were running away from him.
- 1:16:49Speaker 6: He was not really making an impact early on. But
- 1:16:52Speaker 6: you know another guy that like kind of probably gonna
- 1:16:54Speaker 6: be on the list. He somebody who is electric and
- 1:16:57Speaker 6: just hu has the juice, Like he just has juice.
- 1:17:00Speaker 6: Like when I looked at him, I was like, this
- 1:17:01Speaker 6: guy has what it takes to get out the ball.
- 1:17:04Speaker 6: I means, I know his whole story with moving from
- 1:17:06Speaker 6: off the ball and stuff, but you know, I just
- 1:17:08Speaker 6: that's I'm starting to get a little draft tingled. Sorry, Paul,
- 1:17:10Speaker 6: I know.
- 1:17:11Speaker 5: Oh I don't mind like talking about Yeah, I.
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: Don't necessarily mind talking about the draft in an abstract
- 1:17:17Speaker 4: like you know, like the Patriots are gonna have a
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: top five pick positions, you know, but like to sort
- 1:17:22Speaker 4: of like zero in on, like, no, they have to
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: draft to tackle, like I'm not ready for that, you know,
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: And it's Calvin Banks well will you know, Will Campbell.
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: I don't care. I don't not now. I was speaking
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: of that watching the games. Really disappointing that Banks couldn't
- 1:17:40Speaker 4: play because I wanted to see him play against Georgia
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: again because he didn't play well against Georgia the first time.
- 1:17:45Speaker 6: Yeah, you know.
- 1:17:46Speaker 5: So Georgia has a couple of guys on their defense,
- 1:17:49Speaker 5: MIKEL Williams who has similar problems to like Trayvon Walker,
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: and that the production isn't off the charts because the
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: role that he plays in their defense. But he's got
- 1:17:58Speaker 5: all the tools long, you know, explosive edge rusher and
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: then they also have another, Yeah, Jalen Walker. I think
- 1:18:06Speaker 5: it's also a Walker kind of reminds me a little
- 1:18:11Speaker 5: bit of Dry Mayo, to be honest with you, plays
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: on and off the line of scrimmage, like you know,
- 1:18:16Speaker 5: one of those guys that is sort of a chess
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: piece and has you know, leads them in tackles and
- 1:18:22Speaker 5: like all that kind of stuff. He's more to me though,
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: like traditional like middle linebacker.
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: You don't They're good up front. The biggest difference for
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: Georgia this year is they don't have the secondary. They
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: usually have really good corners and they don't have corners.
- 1:18:35Speaker 6: Speaking of an American and I throw a name out
- 1:18:37Speaker 6: there that kind of caught my curiosity a little bit.
- 1:18:41Speaker 6: In free agency, Drake Greenlaw coming off a big injury
- 1:18:44Speaker 6: obviously in the playoffs last year. He's just starting to
- 1:18:46Speaker 6: practice right now.
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: He's getting perfect guy. If Bill was there, He's going
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: to be.
- 1:18:49Speaker 6: A free agent, you know, kind of an emotional leader
- 1:18:52Speaker 6: there for the team. I know Jowan Bentley's coming back.
- 1:18:54Speaker 6: But when I look at free agency, and I know
- 1:18:56Speaker 6: San Francisco got a ton of decisions to make with
- 1:18:58Speaker 6: with their roster too that you know could that be
- 1:19:00Speaker 6: a guy that you know you're not. He's not coming
- 1:19:03Speaker 6: off the great, he's you know, he's missad pretty much
- 1:19:04Speaker 6: the whole year. But we talk a lot about Look,
- 1:19:08Speaker 6: free agency doesn't have the exact groceries that you need.
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: And at the left, you know, I mean I think
- 1:19:12Speaker 6: they are left tackle guys to consider. But you know,
- 1:19:16Speaker 6: maybe we've talked about the cornerback position, but maybe off
- 1:19:19Speaker 6: the ball, like pair him with Bentley, you've got two dogs,
- 1:19:22Speaker 6: really good player.
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: I mean, if he if he becomes a really good player,
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: if you could still play.
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: More coverage ability too, I would say than the guys
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: they have small six.
- 1:19:31Speaker 6: Feet but athletic and can move.
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: And but I'm with you in general on and you
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: were talking about this with the draft on Catch twenty two,
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: like you can only follow the market, like the market
- 1:19:41Speaker 5: dictates the talent that's available, and like we all wish
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: that there was you know, a Marvin Harrison junior or
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: Molik neighbors in this draft, but like let's not turn
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: Teed McMillan into that just because we're where we wish
- 1:19:55Speaker 5: it was the case, or same thing at tackle, like
- 1:19:57Speaker 5: with Will Campbell and I feel the same way in
- 1:19:59Speaker 5: free agency, like you have to pay the guys that
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: are worth paying. Yeah, you know, you don't have talent
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: on this team, So like, what difference does it make
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: if he plays linebacker, if it's you know, Javon Holland
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: at safety, if it's a cornerback next to Gonzales, Like,
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: it really doesn't matter if you're just stacking the talent
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: on the team. So we would all like, I feel
- 1:20:18Speaker 5: like we get bogged down by needs and like what
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: position do they need to draft or need to sign
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: or whatever. And it's like, well, you're not going to
- 1:20:26Speaker 5: just sign a left tackle and give that guy starter
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: money just because you need a left tackle, and this
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: is the the you know, sort of the placeholder that
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: you have in that So it makes.
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: The Polk pick hurt more. Like, Yeah, this year, if
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: he you know, had a really solid rookie year, you'd
- 1:20:41Speaker 4: be so excited about it. You'd have a good young receiver.
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: Now you kind of feel like we really need to
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: find a young receiver. Yeah and yeah, well to Evan's point,
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: but you to do that was probably last year and
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: it looks like you may have missed.
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:20:54Speaker 6: That's why I think CV two is like the spot
- 1:20:56Speaker 6: where there's gonna be some legit CB one almost kind
- 1:21:00Speaker 6: of guys I think hitting the market this year and
- 1:21:02Speaker 6: it's not probably a top the list, but Paara guy
- 1:21:05Speaker 6: with Gonzalez and you know, this year we got two
- 1:21:09Speaker 6: of the best safeties in the game or two of
- 1:21:10Speaker 6: the best corners in the game playing together.
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: It's another underrated You know, we talked a lot about
- 1:21:15Speaker 4: the receivers. Get the young receivers some time in these
- 1:21:18Speaker 4: last four games, the offensive lineman. They're probably going to
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: continue this rotation thing with Austin and Bolden. Know, see
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: if one of those two guys, you know, given that'll
- 1:21:29Speaker 4: be like five games that you know you're going to
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: give him thirty plus snaps in the secondary, you know,
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: maybe maybe it got something. Yeah.
- 1:21:36Speaker 5: I don't know if he's a starter in this league,
- 1:21:37Speaker 5: but I think Alex Austin's played a lot of really
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: competitive football. I don't know what to call it. Like,
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: I'm not saying he's an elite corner, but like I.
- 1:21:44Speaker 4: Thought he was good in the game the other day.
- 1:21:46Speaker 4: I thought he really struggled before he got hurt.
- 1:21:48Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I agree with that.
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: But Jets Jets game on the Thursday night was not
- 1:21:52Speaker 4: a good game.
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: No, I'd say towards the end of last year though
- 1:21:56Speaker 5: he finished.
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: I thought he fined a good game in Buffalo.
- 1:21:58Speaker 5: Yeah, twenty three strong. He's come back from this injury
- 1:22:01Speaker 5: and it has played well recently. Like all you need
- 1:22:04Speaker 5: is that third rotational corner. Like it's not like you
- 1:22:07Speaker 5: necessarily needed to be oh, you know, no fly zone right,
- 1:22:12Speaker 5: lockdown secondary. So maybe that does for you up to
- 1:22:15Speaker 5: go out and get a try.
- 1:22:16Speaker 6: Yeah, well, that that was the question I got, As
- 1:22:19Speaker 6: somebody said in the mail bag, was Alex Austin, you know,
- 1:22:21Speaker 6: playing well last week and Marcus Jones playing well, like,
- 1:22:25Speaker 6: you know, do you think that they could just roll
- 1:22:26Speaker 6: with those guys next year? I said, in a perfect world,
- 1:22:28Speaker 6: I think I'd rather add a real dog at CB
- 1:22:31Speaker 6: two and Alex Austin is then your third and you
- 1:22:33Speaker 6: know you can work Marcus Jones in in the slot
- 1:22:36Speaker 6: when you can. Let's heat back to the TPX highline guys.
- 1:22:39Speaker 6: Aiden from Plymouth is Backaiden, alright, well, yeah, you're on
- 1:22:46Speaker 6: all right?
- 1:22:46Speaker 14: Great?
- 1:22:47Speaker 15: So Fred mentioned last week that people who are interested
- 1:22:50Speaker 15: in Jersey should stay tuned like something might be coming.
- 1:22:53Speaker 15: I have a lot of thoughts on jersey. So I
- 1:22:55Speaker 15: want to go rapid fire, not like Cats twenty two
- 1:22:58Speaker 15: rapid fire, but real rapid fire. So I've got I
- 1:23:03Speaker 15: would love to see the nineties giant Elvis on the
- 1:23:05Speaker 15: shoulder jerseys come back for retro at some point. I
- 1:23:08Speaker 15: want to see him on the field. I'm too young
- 1:23:10Speaker 15: to have seen it in person, but I think that'd
- 1:23:11Speaker 15: be so cool. And then my main point is, if
- 1:23:15Speaker 15: we're moving into a new era with this team, I
- 1:23:17Speaker 15: think it makes sense to have a new jersey. Like
- 1:23:20Speaker 15: I've got a red Grogan in my closet, I've got
- 1:23:22Speaker 15: the blue ledso with the giant Elvis on it, You've
- 1:23:26Speaker 15: got the Brady.
- 1:23:28Speaker 13: Dynasty jerseys Reebok.
- 1:23:30Speaker 11: And Nike, and then we've got the post Brady with
- 1:23:32Speaker 11: the blueberries. I feel like I don't want those blueberries
- 1:23:35Speaker 11: to be the ones that carry us through Drake Made's career.
- 1:23:38Speaker 11: I want to get the jersey, uh that I'm gonna
- 1:23:40Speaker 11: associate with him for the rest of his career. Right, So,
- 1:23:44Speaker 11: I'm really excited about the idea of new jerseys. I've
- 1:23:46Speaker 11: got a lot of ideas about them, and so what
- 1:23:49Speaker 11: I would love to see is if you got mocked ups,
- 1:23:52Speaker 11: you know, send him out there before there's decisions of
- 1:23:54Speaker 11: fans can react and you can see what people think.
- 1:23:57Speaker 11: I think people often see new jerseys and then they
- 1:24:00Speaker 11: all of a sudden say, you know what, we don't
- 1:24:01Speaker 11: like else who wish there was a decision made with
- 1:24:04Speaker 11: some input from fantasy.
- 1:24:05Speaker 15: If you're going to pick the same thing anyways, just
- 1:24:07Speaker 15: throw him out there and get some feedback. Or if
- 1:24:09Speaker 15: you don't want to get feedback from everyone, you know,
- 1:24:12Speaker 15: invite me and I'll come and give my ideas. They'll
- 1:24:14Speaker 15: sign an NDA and maybe you show me the trophy room.
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: Sounds good.
- 1:24:20Speaker 6: We'll be in touch. We'll get those mock ups to
- 1:24:21Speaker 6: you as soon as we can. But I like that,
- 1:24:25Speaker 6: I like I look. I think like Unfortunately, unfortunately, I
- 1:24:28Speaker 6: think the Blueberries are fast becoming the three win Patriot jerseys,
- 1:24:31Speaker 6: you know, and I think at some point he's right, like,
- 1:24:32Speaker 6: they're gonna let's rebrand now we got this.
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: You know, you just don't like them. I don't care
- 1:24:36Speaker 5: how much winning they do and them, I just don't
- 1:24:38Speaker 5: like them. I'm gonna be honest.
- 1:24:40Speaker 6: I just think that they they were a nice all
- 1:24:42Speaker 6: jersey I thought once a year.
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: I don't I don't know.
- 1:24:44Speaker 5: I just it reminds me of Willy Wonka.
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: It's hard because they haven't won. Yeah, you don't know.
- 1:24:52Speaker 6: If they it turns into you're turning violent, Violet. I
- 1:24:58Speaker 6: knew would. Danny's down in Daytona. Hey Danny, you're on
- 1:25:00Speaker 6: the TP outline, which tucks.
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:25:07Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 1:25:08Speaker 13: I have a couple of takes for you guys today.
- 1:25:11Speaker 13: The three, well, probably the four takes I have.
- 1:25:13Speaker 17: The first one is I don't like Bill going to
- 1:25:18Speaker 17: the University of North Carolina. I think that's kind of weird.
- 1:25:22Speaker 17: I agree with all the former players. They're Brady and
- 1:25:25Speaker 17: from Kowski and Edelman were on Fox Showdown on Sunday
- 1:25:31Speaker 17: and they were talking about it. They don't think it's
- 1:25:32Speaker 17: gonna happen, and if it did, it'd be really weird.
- 1:25:34Speaker 17: But that's my take on the Belichick there. I think
- 1:25:37Speaker 17: he should just try to aim in in the NFL
- 1:25:40Speaker 17: as best as he can if he can't get planned
- 1:25:42Speaker 17: a job. The other two takes, the I was a
- 1:25:45Speaker 17: freeing to report this morning that Jack Andrews is projected
- 1:25:48Speaker 17: to be coming back early in the off season during
- 1:25:53Speaker 17: probably before ot as. They said, he's hit that ministerstare,
- 1:25:56Speaker 17: but he looks like he's making their cover. So I
- 1:25:58Speaker 17: would really like to see him come back and push
- 1:26:01Speaker 17: more a the center spot if if Andrews doesn't come back,
- 1:26:05Speaker 17: and even if Andrews does come back, I would like
- 1:26:07Speaker 17: to kind of see Andrews mentorm so that way Jack
- 1:26:10Speaker 17: Andrews can kind of get in there and hit the
- 1:26:12Speaker 17: ground running and the offense listen, and maybe we keep
- 1:26:15Speaker 17: Ben Brown just as you know, a third option.
- 1:26:18Speaker 16: I think having you know, the center's important, so having
- 1:26:22Speaker 16: him and Jack Andrews would be good. And maybe David
- 1:26:24Speaker 16: if he comes back. And then the other the other two.
- 1:26:27Speaker 13: Takes I got. The last before head off.
- 1:26:30Speaker 16: Is uh, durs gonna add a senior advisor to the
- 1:26:33Speaker 16: defensive staff or he needs to. He needs to kind
- 1:26:36Speaker 16: of man up and uh tell his boys, you know,
- 1:26:41Speaker 16: DeMarcus Coepington, it really hasn't worked out that great, and
- 1:26:44Speaker 16: kind of give him an option. Either demote him on
- 1:26:46Speaker 16: the staff back down the defensive line. I know that's
- 1:26:49Speaker 16: you know, not really it doesn't really happen. But given
- 1:26:52Speaker 16: the option, either he gets demoted, or he and they
- 1:26:55Speaker 16: bring in a new guy to be the coordinator, or
- 1:26:58Speaker 16: possibly he just he's gone all together I would throw
- 1:27:02Speaker 16: those options on the table and see what the market
- 1:27:04Speaker 16: wants to do, and then the last take. I've just
- 1:27:07Speaker 16: seen this report that they did. KG Osborne is also gone.
- 1:27:12Speaker 6: Yeah cool, Thanks Danny. How would you guys feel Andrews
- 1:27:17Speaker 6: comes back, Andrews, Ben Brown, Jake Andrews as your center's
- 1:27:20Speaker 6: going to training camera.
- 1:27:21Speaker 5: I think you'd probably have to throw all change into
- 1:27:24Speaker 5: that mix too. On a team that doesn't have a
- 1:27:27Speaker 5: lot of depth across the roster, center is in just
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: interior offensive line in general, I feel like they have
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: a lot of bodies and I don't know if any
- 1:27:36Speaker 5: of them can actually play, but they have a lot
- 1:27:38Speaker 5: of bodies, you know, between the last couple of drafts
- 1:27:41Speaker 5: and everything, so it's one spot where you have to
- 1:27:44Speaker 5: let some of the kids play and see who sings
- 1:27:46Speaker 5: and swims and not really add I don't think you know,
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: there's a lot of on Patriots Twitter talk about like
- 1:27:53Speaker 5: signing Tray Smith from Kansas City who is a really
- 1:27:55Speaker 5: good guard or something like that, and it's like, I mean,
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: I don't know, You've just invested all sorts of draft
- 1:28:01Speaker 5: capital into the interior spots.
- 1:28:03Speaker 6: What positions would you guys include as we don't need to,
- 1:28:07Speaker 6: like we can let this last. I know there may
- 1:28:09Speaker 6: not be many, but I would agree with you on
- 1:28:10Speaker 6: like guard center, like probably don't need to overextend yourself.
- 1:28:13Speaker 6: Maybe late round flyers not included, but yeah, free agency
- 1:28:18Speaker 6: priorities and draft pick first two days. Are there any
- 1:28:21Speaker 6: positions you would say they're they're good safety? Maybe running back,
- 1:28:24Speaker 6: running back?
- 1:28:24Speaker 5: I could see them putting. You know, you can always
- 1:28:27Speaker 5: you can never have too many guys that can run
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: the ball just to have around. But I mean you
- 1:28:32Speaker 5: invested in both from Andre stevensan A Antonio Gibson on
- 1:28:35Speaker 5: multi year contracts. I just I don't see a path
- 1:28:39Speaker 5: for another high investment there where now you have three
- 1:28:43Speaker 5: running backs that you're trying to get on the field.
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: Like Gibson's role is already probably smaller than he wants
- 1:28:48Speaker 5: it to be to begin with. So you know, I
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: know that there's a lot of Ashton Gentry love out there,
- 1:28:54Speaker 5: or you know, uh, Drake May's guy down in at
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: North Carolina Marion Hampton. But like, you have all these
- 1:29:00Speaker 5: backs in the draft, so maybe you go and pick
- 1:29:02Speaker 5: one in the sixth and seventh round, you know, just
- 1:29:04Speaker 5: to keep the stable there. But I don't. I don't
- 1:29:06Speaker 5: see any need to use anything.
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: You know, you guys know, I don't gush yeah in
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: general terms, except for like maybe like Mahomes and Allen
- 1:29:14Speaker 4: those guys.
- 1:29:15Speaker 6: Marcus Jones pump returns.
- 1:29:16Speaker 4: Marcus Jones pump return I do gush about that. Did
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: you ever watch the kid cam Scattaboo from Arizona State player?
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: I don't have any idea if what what he'll I mean, no, no, no, no,
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: I know where he's gonna get drafted. I don't know
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: what kind of impact he'll have.
- 1:29:37Speaker 6: Tell us about him, Paul's.
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: Let's pretend. Let's pretend that Mike doesn't know who this is.
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: You can't tackle them, you can't tackle them like he
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: just like breaks he breaks like five tackles every run.
- 1:29:53Speaker 4: He's one of those kids that just refuses to go down.
- 1:29:57Speaker 5: He's not he's.
- 1:29:58Speaker 4: Not overly fast, he's not overly athletic. He doesn't really
- 1:30:02Speaker 4: have a great body, and he lost a lot of
- 1:30:04Speaker 4: weight to get the body that he has. Kind of
- 1:30:08Speaker 4: comes across kind of douchey, but he's unbelievably productive. Uh
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: And I just like, just as a college player, I
- 1:30:18Speaker 4: wouldn't want to draft him. I wouldn't and Evan. I
- 1:30:22Speaker 4: think Evan's right, probably a Day three pick. It's funny
- 1:30:26Speaker 4: because we were watching the game Saturday. Beth is watching
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: with me and she goes, well, maybe the Patriots didn't
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: get him. I go, yeah. On the last day of
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: the trap just goes, what do you mean? I go,
- 1:30:34Speaker 4: this guy's not going to go in the first round.
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: No way.
- 1:30:37Speaker 5: Yeah. I would say probably like a fringe top one
- 1:30:40Speaker 5: hundred pick, like third or fourth round projection for him.
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: But it's a great story, like no one wanted him,
- 1:30:46Speaker 4: he got Sacramento State was like the only school that
- 1:30:49Speaker 4: offered him anything. He ended up transferring, and then one
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: of the coaches on that young kid's staff, Kenny Dillingham's
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: staff ye played against him and goes, you got to
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: get him in the portals he can play, and now
- 1:31:02Speaker 4: he's like the sole reason why Arizona State they have
- 1:31:05Speaker 4: a really good receiver in him, and that's kind of it. Yeah,
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: the quarterbacks got a little moxie. I kind of like him.
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: I think the biggest issue that I have with guys
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: like Skataboo is that like he's not an NFL prospect to.
- 1:31:19Speaker 4: Me, he's not an athlete, but athlete.
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, but he's a great college player. Oh yeah,
- 1:31:25Speaker 5: at all these college football people that are just telling me.
- 1:31:27Speaker 3: How you got, I'm glad.
- 1:31:29Speaker 4: I'm glad I did it.
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: That Arizona State you gotta watch. And I'm like, who, like,
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: like Peyton hillis like you know, like.
- 1:31:37Speaker 4: It's there's Peyton Hillis Peyton Hill. That's what remind Toby
- 1:31:41Speaker 4: Gearhart like maybe like Toby Gearhout was probably better than
- 1:31:46Speaker 4: on a.
- 1:31:47Speaker 5: Real like the the high ceiling ceiling You're.
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: Silf a favorite and ask Fred about Toby Gearhut.
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: The ceiling projection for him is that that people like
- 1:31:58Speaker 5: try to gas him up with his Mike al Start
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: And I'm just like, Okay, first of all, Michael Start
- 1:32:02Speaker 5: was awesome, but second of all, that was thirty years ago.
- 1:32:05Speaker 5: That mikeel Star was awesome.
- 1:32:07Speaker 4: Like I don't think he could be that kind of
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: don't think he's that big, is he?
- 1:32:10Speaker 5: No, He's not that good.
- 1:32:12Speaker 6: That is what I kind of do enjoy about, like
- 1:32:14Speaker 6: just flipping on college football games so there'll be one
- 1:32:16Speaker 6: guy sometimes so he's just like this guy's way better
- 1:32:18Speaker 6: than everybody else.
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: But I really like, I mean, I have to. I
- 1:32:21Speaker 4: have to be honest.
- 1:32:21Speaker 6: It's not.
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: You guys know I'm It's not my thing, right, it's not.
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: But the running back thing is not my thing. The
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: scrappy overachiever is not generally my thing. That's why Fred
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: makes fun of me. I called my all jeff Rye team,
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: Like I would just say, I really enjoy watching that
- 1:32:36Speaker 4: guy play. He's like a really good college player.
- 1:32:40Speaker 5: He probably should have been a Heisman finalist.
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: I can't believe he wasn't.
- 1:32:43Speaker 5: But he's not.
- 1:32:44Speaker 6: I'm gonna watch this guy.
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: I can't believe he wasn't. Well, he'll probably get shut
- 1:32:47Speaker 4: down because they're gonna play a real team.
- 1:32:49Speaker 5: So is the Bois State running back.
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: Oh, I know, I know.
- 1:32:52Speaker 5: I think he'll get shut down to I don't know
- 1:32:54Speaker 5: about shut down because I think he's better than this guy.
- 1:32:57Speaker 4: Always get more like he gets. The thing about Scatable
- 1:33:01Speaker 4: was he doesn't have breakaway speed, so like his forty
- 1:33:04Speaker 4: yard runs require ten broken tackles, and he gets a
- 1:33:08Speaker 4: lot of them. But like, like he had two runs
- 1:33:11Speaker 4: in that game against Iowa State the other day that
- 1:33:14Speaker 4: the gent guy with the same amount of space would
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: have taken the house, and he just can't do it.
- 1:33:20Speaker 5: Is talented, he's really good. I'm actually fascinated to see
- 1:33:23Speaker 5: how he does in the playoff because look, let's face it,
- 1:33:27Speaker 5: he's playing the Mountain West, it's Boise State, it's not
- 1:33:30Speaker 5: exactly like they're playing in the SEC. And he's got
- 1:33:33Speaker 5: all these great defenses he's facing every week. But he
- 1:33:36Speaker 5: did go up against Oregon and he put the same
- 1:33:39Speaker 5: numbers up against Oregon as he did everybody else that
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: he's played all year. So maybe he's teacherly is just special.
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: Now, Mike, I know you probably don't care. And I've
- 1:33:48Speaker 4: seen thoughts of on the final bracket, the twelve team playoff,
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: and you know the many, many controversy with s m
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: U and L I have.
- 1:34:01Speaker 5: I have two thoughts on the bracket. The first thought
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: is facilitation.
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: I learned it from watching film.
- 1:34:07Speaker 5: I have two thoughts and I'm pretty strong on both
- 1:34:09Speaker 5: of them. So the first thought that I have is
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: the buye system needs to be changed, like Arizona State
- 1:34:17Speaker 5: and Boise State should not have buys. You know, I
- 1:34:20Speaker 5: just looked at the bracket, like Texas and Penn State
- 1:34:22Speaker 5: should be or the three and four ranked teams in
- 1:34:26Speaker 5: the country, but they do not have the buys. The
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: buys went to eleven I think ten and eleven or
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: Arizona State and Boise State, so they somehow get the buys,
- 1:34:35Speaker 5: which now means that, you know, good for Penn State
- 1:34:38Speaker 5: because Penn State has a cake walk to the semi
- 1:34:40Speaker 5: final now pretty much if they take care of business
- 1:34:44Speaker 5: as they should, so they have a nice easy schedule.
- 1:34:46Speaker 5: It's Indiana and then they played would play Boise State
- 1:34:49Speaker 5: in the quarterfinal. So I just the buys need to change.
- 1:34:53Speaker 5: And the other thing is is that it depends and
- 1:34:55Speaker 5: I know you were you know, we were talking about
- 1:34:57Speaker 5: Jim Nagy's tweet earlier. It depends on your rooting interest, right.
- 1:35:01Speaker 5: My rooting interest when it comes to college football playoff
- 1:35:04Speaker 5: is the draft. Like I want to see all the
- 1:35:07Speaker 5: top prospects in this upcoming draft on the biggest possible
- 1:35:10Speaker 5: stage against the best possible competition because there's nothing closer
- 1:35:14Speaker 5: that you'll get to the NFL for these guys, and
- 1:35:18Speaker 5: watching how they perform in the College Football Playoff.
- 1:35:20Speaker 4: Like that's yeah, I wouldn't disagree with that. And just
- 1:35:24Speaker 4: so people they might not know, Jim Nagy had a
- 1:35:26Speaker 4: tweet over the weekend sort of because everything is about
- 1:35:30Speaker 4: the Senior Bowl, which he's the only one who cares about.
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: But he runs, he runs the Senior Bowl, and he's
- 1:35:36Speaker 4: talking about all the different guys from all the different
- 1:35:38Speaker 4: teams that have been invited to the Senior Bowl and
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: have like first round grades. And if you go by,
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: you know, the the NFL talent, you know, and I
- 1:35:47Speaker 4: don't have all the teams in front of me, but
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: these are the teams that should be there. But that's
- 1:35:51Speaker 4: not how it works, Jim. You go by the teams
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: that played the best during the course of the season.
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: If it was just about the best recruiting classes every year,
- 1:35:58Speaker 4: Like where do you think Florida State's recruiting class was?
- 1:36:01Speaker 6: It was pretty good?
- 1:36:02Speaker 4: They won one game? Like should they be in the
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: should they be in there too? Like if you want
- 1:36:08Speaker 4: to tell me Alabama should go over SMU, I don't
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: think I have a strong argument for or against that.
- 1:36:15Speaker 4: But one of my arguments for Alabama isn't that there's
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: going to be more NFL players on that Alabama team.
- 1:36:21Speaker 4: Then there will be off at SMU. That shouldn't matter.
- 1:36:24Speaker 4: That shouldn't matter. It should be who who do you
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: think played best over the balance of the season. Alabama
- 1:36:30Speaker 4: would tell you we played in the SEC, we lost
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: three games because we played in a tougher schedule, and
- 1:36:36Speaker 4: SMU would tell you we really only lost one game
- 1:36:38Speaker 4: all year with our starting quarterback. In that game, we
- 1:36:41Speaker 4: lost on a fifty whatever yardfield. Go at the buzzer
- 1:36:44Speaker 4: and the conference championship game. Don't penalize us for losing
- 1:36:48Speaker 4: in the conference championship game that Alabama didn't have to
- 1:36:50Speaker 4: play in because why they didn't qualify for it. So
- 1:36:55Speaker 4: it shouldn't have anything to do with the amount of number,
- 1:36:57Speaker 4: you know, number one potential overall picks or NFL players.
- 1:37:01Speaker 4: I get what Evans saying. I want to see that too.
- 1:37:04Speaker 4: I want to see as many players that I think
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: are going to be playing on Sundays when I watched
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: the playoffs two. But you got to reward the teams
- 1:37:10Speaker 4: that won the game, like Indiana should be in the
- 1:37:12Speaker 4: in the plays.
- 1:37:13Speaker 5: And I'm coming at it from an NFL perspective. So
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: that's why I feel that way, is that the draft
- 1:37:17Speaker 5: is what is important to me. And if I was
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: a college football person, then I would be on Paul
- 1:37:21Speaker 5: side of the street saying that, well, SMU had a
- 1:37:23Speaker 5: better season than now Alabama. But at the end of
- 1:37:26Speaker 5: the day, and I get that all we're doing is
- 1:37:28Speaker 5: saying that, you know, in theory, like what do we
- 1:37:31Speaker 5: believe would happen, Alabama would beat SMU, And it's straight
- 1:37:35Speaker 5: up right.
- 1:37:35Speaker 4: Like maybe they lost to Vanda Built in Oklahoma.
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: I guess, but I by Oklahoma. I feel like Alabama
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: would beat SMU, they'd beat Indiana, I feel like they'd
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: beat Arizona State, And like, I get it, like that's
- 1:37:49Speaker 5: not the system, And I totally get that that's not
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: the system. But it's just as somebody that's just doesn't
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: really have a strong rooting interest for any of these teams.
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: I just want to see the twelve best teams, and
- 1:37:59Speaker 5: I don't know if we necessarily got twelve best team.
- 1:38:02Speaker 4: Yeah. So here's here's another thing that sort of bugged me.
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: And it's first of all, I absolutely love this twelve
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: team thing because I'd much rather have a knockdown, drag
- 1:38:12Speaker 4: out argument with someone over SMU Alabama twelve and thirteen,
- 1:38:16Speaker 4: you know, then four and five, Yeah, which is what
- 1:38:18Speaker 4: we've had and before that even worse. So I really
- 1:38:23Speaker 4: like this this format. I think every right about the buys.
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: Eliminate the buys, I mean, eliminate the automatic buye. I mean,
- 1:38:29Speaker 4: I know, if you have twelve, you have the four
- 1:38:31Speaker 4: teams that have a buy. But they should be the
- 1:38:33Speaker 4: first full of seeds, not the conference champions automatic. Why
- 1:38:39Speaker 4: is there no like Penn State's five?
- 1:38:41Speaker 13: Right?
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: You said Penn State's I think four? So yeah, it's yeah,
- 1:38:46Speaker 5: it's uh, Oregon, Georgia, Texas and Penn State.
- 1:38:52Speaker 4: Okay, so Penn State. We want to go on schedules, right?
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: And who you beat? SMU? Who'd you beat? Who Penn
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: State beat?
- 1:39:01Speaker 6: I don't know. I don't watch college football.
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: No one, no one.
- 1:39:05Speaker 5: Okay, they haven't played it there.
- 1:39:06Speaker 4: They didn't. They didn't play Indiana. No, and they lost
- 1:39:10Speaker 4: to Ohio State. Michigan stinks. That's probably their best win.
- 1:39:16Speaker 4: They gave up forty five points to Oregon in the
- 1:39:19Speaker 4: conference championship game. They're supposed to be a defense oriented team.
- 1:39:23Speaker 4: Why does no one complain about where this or why
- 1:39:25Speaker 4: they've been I'll tell you why, Mike. I'm glad you asked.
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: Because it's all about the big ten in the SEC
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: right last year? No, No, but because they had to because
- 1:39:36Speaker 4: of all the slack that took last year. Florida State
- 1:39:39Speaker 4: last year went undefeated. It's about winning games, right, They
- 1:39:42Speaker 4: lost their quarterback?
- 1:39:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree. I agreed with right decision at the time.
- 1:39:46Speaker 10: Though.
- 1:39:46Speaker 4: No, no, I do too. No talk about Georgia.
- 1:39:51Speaker 5: That's an interesting situation. It doesn't sound like he's going
- 1:39:53Speaker 5: to be ready.
- 1:39:54Speaker 6: Now.
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: I know that that's an automatic bid, so it's not
- 1:39:56Speaker 4: the same thing. But forget the automatic bid. If they
- 1:40:01Speaker 4: if they lost in overtime to Texas. Do you think
- 1:40:03Speaker 4: there's any way Georgia wouldn't be in the playoff with
- 1:40:06Speaker 4: three losses. They're still of course they would have been
- 1:40:08Speaker 4: in because they wouldn't have penalize them for losing the
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: conference championship game. But my point is, why is there
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: no talk about them not having their quarterback?
- 1:40:16Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:40:17Speaker 4: That was the reason why Florida State couldn't play, you know,
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: and last year at least Florida State proved that they
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: could win without their quarterback. We don't have any idea
- 1:40:25Speaker 4: what Georgia can do. They played one half.
- 1:40:28Speaker 5: That they beat the number three team in the country.
- 1:40:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, But they played one half of football
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: without their quarterback. Yeah, Trevor, and they lost the lead. Yeah,
- 1:40:36Speaker 4: and they lost the lead.
- 1:40:38Speaker 6: I watched that one. Didn't that come back in just
- 1:40:39Speaker 6: for like a handoff.
- 1:40:40Speaker 4: Hand player of the game, Yeah, because the other guy
- 1:40:43Speaker 4: got lit up.
- 1:40:44Speaker 6: I was scouting it was grinding it a little bit.
- 1:40:46Speaker 4: It's no, that's a very underrated day in the sports calendar,
- 1:40:50Speaker 4: is that Saturday of the conference championship funds?
- 1:40:53Speaker 5: I agree, it's It's one of the only times that
- 1:40:55Speaker 5: I actually sit down and watch college football that for
- 1:40:59Speaker 5: an extended other than the playoffs, like for you know,
- 1:41:02Speaker 5: eight straight hours like I would on an NFL sun.
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: I'll be curious to see how that's like the twelve
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: team playoffs. It's going to be not this weekend. Next weekend,
- 1:41:10Speaker 4: I think is the first round. I'll be curious to
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: see how those games are sort of laid out in
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: how much you get into them. Yeah, because I kind
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: of agree with you. I'm envisioning like some of the
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: teams that quote unquote don't belong with the big boys
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: are probably going to get blistered.
- 1:41:28Speaker 5: Notre Dame.
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I would love that.
- 1:41:31Speaker 5: I that's what I worry about.
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: They play Indiana, right, Yeah, I would love Indiana to beat.
- 1:41:36Speaker 5: Notre Yeah, I said, I had it wrong earlier. It's
- 1:41:38Speaker 5: Penn State s.
- 1:41:39Speaker 4: M U starting to feel like paid back for you
- 1:41:41Speaker 4: could be Penn State because they can score.
- 1:41:43Speaker 5: I just that's what I worry about what these things
- 1:41:46Speaker 5: always is that you have seen some teams in this
- 1:41:48Speaker 5: playoff now that some things are not like the others, right,
- 1:41:52Speaker 5: like we're going to have a game.
- 1:41:53Speaker 4: Yeah, And your point about Alabama in that regard is that.
- 1:41:57Speaker 5: I just worried that about that, Like, look, we grew
- 1:41:59Speaker 5: up with that, with the with the BCS, and Notre
- 1:42:01Speaker 5: Dame would always get into a bowl that they had
- 1:42:03Speaker 5: no business being in an Alabama would beat him by
- 1:42:05Speaker 5: four touchdowns and it's like, well, what a waste of
- 1:42:07Speaker 5: time this was, right, you know the man Notre Dame
- 1:42:11Speaker 5: team that just got absolutely Yeah, And I'm just like,
- 1:42:15Speaker 5: why why put these teams in every year?
- 1:42:17Speaker 6: All right, let's let's move off from the college football talk.
- 1:42:20Speaker 4: How about some NBA talk?
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: I know, how about how about.
- 1:42:23Speaker 6: We go back to that TP. I don't, I don't,
- 1:42:28Speaker 6: I don't talk about names.
- 1:42:31Speaker 4: Shot of him as a kid is one of my
- 1:42:32Speaker 4: favorite things.
- 1:42:33Speaker 6: On the end, we got up in Toronto, Hala, thank.
- 1:42:37Speaker 12: It's no Actually, I was going to ask like, I guess,
- 1:42:42Speaker 12: I think one of the biggest disappointments for me this
- 1:42:44Speaker 12: season has been how poorly some of the guys they
- 1:42:47Speaker 12: resigned have played. Like I think Dougger has been a liability,
- 1:42:53Speaker 12: maybe even outplayed by Dell Tennis. And you know Barmore's
- 1:42:58Speaker 12: bod spots, so that's kind of its own thing. On
- 1:43:01Speaker 12: when who's playing like an okay guard but not a
- 1:43:04Speaker 12: nineteen million dollar garden. I guess I wonder, like for
- 1:43:07Speaker 12: Douger and on when who do you think it's a
- 1:43:10Speaker 12: bit of like they got paid and now they're not
- 1:43:12Speaker 12: giving one hundred percent effort. I know a lot of
- 1:43:16Speaker 12: their uh issues seem to be meant to have been
- 1:43:20Speaker 12: some saying, So I guess, yeah, do you think it's
- 1:43:22Speaker 12: an effort thing? And I guess second question, you think,
- 1:43:26Speaker 12: how do you projected, Gus we'll do next year? Is
- 1:43:30Speaker 12: this kind of what we should expect from them going forward?
- 1:43:34Speaker 12: And I'll take it off the air.
- 1:43:35Speaker 6: I think, thanks for the call.
- 1:43:36Speaker 5: It's a really good question, I guess are.
- 1:43:39Speaker 4: A really good point try to answer. But question for Mara.
- 1:43:43Speaker 5: Stevenson in the category two of guys that I haven't
- 1:43:46Speaker 5: felt like have performed relative to the contract so far
- 1:43:50Speaker 5: as well. So it's uh, it's disappointing that they invested
- 1:43:54Speaker 5: in those guys, which I agreed with at the time.
- 1:43:56Speaker 5: So I'm not gonna hunter.
- 1:43:57Speaker 4: Henry's probably the only one that really has yeah, you know,
- 1:44:01Speaker 4: lived up to probably outperformed.
- 1:44:03Speaker 5: Yeah, and even like it wasn't big money, but like
- 1:44:04Speaker 5: even July I has had.
- 1:44:06Speaker 4: A ron year and Kendrick Bourne, Yeah, I really haven't
- 1:44:10Speaker 4: gotten a whole lot. They are either suspended most of
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: the seasons. Yeah, yeah, I mean they haven't gotten a
- 1:44:15Speaker 4: you know, David Andrews got hurt and other guys that got.
- 1:44:18Speaker 5: Core guys, you know, those are supposed to be there.
- 1:44:20Speaker 4: When who I kind of wonder about his point because
- 1:44:24Speaker 4: of the report and we saw it like of how
- 1:44:27Speaker 4: big he looked, and I wondered if, you know, he
- 1:44:30Speaker 4: got the contract and maybe that had something to do
- 1:44:32Speaker 4: with it. I've heard other people sort of opine that
- 1:44:35Speaker 4: it was an effort to stay away from tackle. He
- 1:44:38Speaker 4: did not want to play tackle, and he felt like
- 1:44:41Speaker 4: maybe if he got bigger, he wouldn't be an option
- 1:44:43Speaker 4: at tackle. Didn't turn out that way, ended up having
- 1:44:46Speaker 4: to play it anyway. Dugger. I I don't look at
- 1:44:52Speaker 4: it as an effort thing either way. I mean, I
- 1:44:54Speaker 4: think these guys play pretty hard, but I do wonder
- 1:44:57Speaker 4: about you never know, like if the money chanced. This
- 1:45:00Speaker 4: is why Bill used to always rail against that, because
- 1:45:03Speaker 4: I think he worried about how the money would affect
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: players and then others in the locker room. You know.
- 1:45:09Speaker 4: I just feel like, I don't I don't have a
- 1:45:10Speaker 4: good answer for that.
- 1:45:10Speaker 6: I kind of feel like he's plateaued. Like I don't
- 1:45:12Speaker 6: think he's you know, certainly this season has been down,
- 1:45:15Speaker 6: but it's just his struggles and coverage. It's just I
- 1:45:18Speaker 6: think too much that this is the player he is, Like,
- 1:45:21Speaker 6: I haven't really seen much difference, and I think this
- 1:45:24Speaker 6: is a little bit below the bar this year for him.
- 1:45:26Speaker 4: I do think that he's he's the last since he's
- 1:45:28Speaker 4: come back. Yeah, like Miami, he was like that was
- 1:45:30Speaker 4: the game that Evan recounted all the touchdowns. You could
- 1:45:34Speaker 4: make an.
- 1:45:34Speaker 6: Argument hands in him. I mean, how many times have
- 1:45:37Speaker 6: you seen him, you know, in coverage a step behind
- 1:45:39Speaker 6: and and they're you know, throwing a touchdown.
- 1:45:40Speaker 4: But I didn't think that he was that bad the
- 1:45:43Speaker 4: first part of the year before he got hurt. I
- 1:45:44Speaker 4: guess maybe he was.
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: No, I didn't think so, just you know, think it's
- 1:45:48Speaker 5: just not make an impact.
- 1:45:49Speaker 6: I mean, nobody was making impact on the defense, you know.
- 1:45:51Speaker 4: I just don't know. I don't see what's on that
- 1:45:53Speaker 4: side of the ball.
- 1:45:54Speaker 5: It was just one thing with Duggar that I I
- 1:45:56Speaker 5: there was always some boomer busts with his game, but
- 1:45:58Speaker 5: there was splash plays like he would make plays on
- 1:46:01Speaker 5: the ball, you know, turnover his pick.
- 1:46:04Speaker 4: Picking off that screen against the Raiders.
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: Yeah, that was one of the better plays they've had
- 1:46:07Speaker 5: over the last couple.
- 1:46:08Speaker 4: Of years, you know, so much so that I remember
- 1:46:11Speaker 4: it two years later.
- 1:46:12Speaker 5: Those plays have for him have completely drip dried up
- 1:46:15Speaker 5: this year. So like, if you're going to make some
- 1:46:17Speaker 5: of the mistakes that he has always made, kind of
- 1:46:19Speaker 5: to be honest with you, with I discipline and as
- 1:46:22Speaker 5: signons and you know, getting lost and sort of the
- 1:46:25Speaker 5: weeds in the defensive side of the ball and coverage.
- 1:46:28Speaker 5: I wonder if he's the type of guy and we've
- 1:46:29Speaker 5: always tried I feel like to have him be this
- 1:46:33Speaker 5: Rodney Harrison, ballhawk, always around the football type of guy.
- 1:46:37Speaker 5: He might be a simplify type of guy. More than
- 1:46:40Speaker 5: like I'm just gonna read and react and have my
- 1:46:42Speaker 5: eyes everywhere. I think sometimes that pulls him in the
- 1:46:46Speaker 5: wrong direction. And he's not an overly instinctual player, whereas
- 1:46:51Speaker 5: you know, even though he has some warts covering tight ends,
- 1:46:53Speaker 5: like at least he knows he has the tight end
- 1:46:55Speaker 5: right and there's not like that sort of like doubt
- 1:46:58Speaker 5: in his game. But what don wny, The one pass
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: I would give him is that all the moving around
- 1:47:03Speaker 5: I don't think has I don't think he's liked it,
- 1:47:05Speaker 5: and I don't think that it's helped his game.
- 1:47:07Speaker 4: I would agree on both counts at all.
- 1:47:09Speaker 5: So if they settle in and say he's a right guard,
- 1:47:13Speaker 5: stamped into next season you are playing right guard, he'll
- 1:47:16Speaker 5: be better.
- 1:47:16Speaker 6: Yeah, Yeah, let's keep blasting through these calls. Nate, Northeast, Pennsylvania,
- 1:47:21Speaker 6: Hey Nate, Hey.
- 1:47:25Speaker 13: Up, I missed the first button. That's the show. But
- 1:47:27Speaker 13: I don't think he talked about this. As rough as
- 1:47:30Speaker 13: this season has been, I felt a quite bit of
- 1:47:33Speaker 13: reassurance this weekend after catching the Jaguars Titans game. I
- 1:47:37Speaker 13: don't know if you saw Mac Jones play, but getted
- 1:47:39Speaker 13: in a pulse pounding ten to six final score and
- 1:47:42Speaker 13: the cherry on top was a real doozy of an
- 1:47:45Speaker 13: interception by Mackews. I saw pressure and getting sacked and
- 1:47:49Speaker 13: just kind of threw it to literally no one.
- 1:47:51Speaker 3: And oh I saw it again.
- 1:47:53Speaker 13: As rough as it's been, I'm just so glad that
- 1:47:55Speaker 13: we don't have to watch those kinds of games anyway.
- 1:47:57Speaker 5: Well, see, I had a completely take on that game.
- 1:47:59Speaker 5: I want to thank Mac Jones for beating the Tennessee
- 1:48:03Speaker 5: Titans and having the Jaguars fall in the draft order
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: from the number one overall pick three babies and now
- 1:48:09Speaker 5: the fifth overall pick. So thank you, Mac. I appreciate
- 1:48:12Speaker 5: you giving us that.
- 1:48:13Speaker 4: He was as bad as you can be. There's a
- 1:48:15Speaker 4: lot and that pick that he's talking about, he did
- 1:48:17Speaker 4: us a favor, but a lot of the even.
- 1:48:19Speaker 6: Like that was a fourth quarter comeback, bro, I know,
- 1:48:22Speaker 6: even some of the stories he makes, it's all off
- 1:48:23Speaker 6: the back foot, like it all looks the same. It's
- 1:48:25Speaker 6: just you know, he's not skittish, confident, he's not stepping
- 1:48:28Speaker 6: into anything.
- 1:48:29Speaker 5: That is a horrible win for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: It was not inspiring.
- 1:48:34Speaker 4: Yeah, like if you go and win, you know, win
- 1:48:37Speaker 4: that game, thirty four to twenty eight. You're like, all right,
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: you know they showed some hard they you know, the
- 1:48:40Speaker 4: offense got in gear ten to six.
- 1:48:43Speaker 6: It sounds like all the scores of Mac was that's.
- 1:48:45Speaker 5: A terrible win for the Jaguars. Terrible.
- 1:48:47Speaker 6: Well, I'm sorry, I haven't read more emails. Guys. We've
- 1:48:49Speaker 6: had some great college football conversation here in the second half.
- 1:48:53Speaker 6: Prevented me from it, but I'm gonna read this one.
- 1:48:57Speaker 5: He's everybody can see your badge, Mike.
- 1:49:01Speaker 4: He's such he's such a powder look out, just a
- 1:49:05Speaker 4: good thing all the time, like college football talking. Sorry,
- 1:49:08Speaker 4: we talked about something relevant like.
- 1:49:10Speaker 6: Payback as we talked about uniform sermon and we're gonna
- 1:49:13Speaker 6: get him backwards, uh kidding. Aside this email from William
- 1:49:17Speaker 6: last Wednesday. Fred said GAFA instead of gaff and entomology
- 1:49:21Speaker 6: bugs instead of etomology words. First time I've missed Eric
- 1:49:25Speaker 6: since he left. Also, Mike had a sneaky good reference
- 1:49:28Speaker 6: Mad to Mad Max didn't get noticed, shiny and chrome
- 1:49:30Speaker 6: good Mike onto football. Which of the following do you
- 1:49:34Speaker 6: think is responsible for the team's defensive problems? One poor
- 1:49:38Speaker 6: scheme game planning, two poor communication of scheme, game planning.
- 1:49:42Speaker 6: Three poor on field communication between players for poor execution
- 1:49:46Speaker 6: by players. Five we just don't have the horses.
- 1:49:50Speaker 4: All five. I would say all five, but five is
- 1:49:53Speaker 4: my number one thing. But I don't think that they've
- 1:49:56Speaker 4: adjusted well when things aren't working. This is what I
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: just said about Ara McDermott, Like that whole game goes
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: by the other day, and I mean, I'm sure that
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: they made some adjustment. I didn't see anything that was
- 1:50:07Speaker 4: that was obvious, and they just couldn't stop them. All
- 1:50:10Speaker 4: the same stuff they were doing, you know, and they
- 1:50:12Speaker 4: were doing a lot of the same stuff that they
- 1:50:13Speaker 4: did against the Patriots. And I put NICOLEA and Cup
- 1:50:16Speaker 4: on the same side sort of made the bills to
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: Clare like, yeah, no adjustments. Yeah, it's been a problem.
- 1:50:24Speaker 5: I I'm really fascinated to see what they do on
- 1:50:28Speaker 5: the defense side of the ball in the offseason. From
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: a coaching standpoint, I just feel like there's two guys
- 1:50:35Speaker 5: there that are trying to run this defense that are
- 1:50:37Speaker 5: not one hundred percent experienced in the role. I think
- 1:50:42Speaker 5: that can be difficult. I think Girod's stretch really thin
- 1:50:45Speaker 5: as a head coach, just doing a bunch of different
- 1:50:47Speaker 5: things that head coaches have to do, and he hasn't
- 1:50:50Speaker 5: been able to bell.
- 1:50:51Speaker 4: That we a senior advisor on defense, but I think
- 1:50:55Speaker 4: that it needs to be.
- 1:50:56Speaker 5: That's sort of that's sort of my my thing is like, well,
- 1:50:59Speaker 5: if that's not Girard, then what is Gerard doing?
- 1:51:03Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:51:03Speaker 5: Like, if he's not able to help on his side
- 1:51:06Speaker 5: of the ball, it's difficult for me to then envision. Okay,
- 1:51:10Speaker 5: so he's basically just a CEO figurehead at the top
- 1:51:14Speaker 5: of the of the letter, and then you have Ben
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: mcaduo and a VP running the offense and the senior
- 1:51:20Speaker 5: defensive assistant and Covington running the defense, and like it
- 1:51:24Speaker 5: just that should that's senior defensive assistant should be draped. Yeah,
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: Like he should be the one that is it is
- 1:51:30Speaker 5: doing that sort of role on the defense side of
- 1:51:32Speaker 5: the ball. It's one thing he's not calling the plays
- 1:51:35Speaker 5: or he's not running every meeting or whatever because of
- 1:51:38Speaker 5: his position as the head coach, but he should be
- 1:51:41Speaker 5: the one that's doing the quality control stuff on that
- 1:51:44Speaker 5: side of it.
- 1:51:44Speaker 6: Mostly Belichick guys still there. It's just Jerry Montgomery, right,
- 1:51:47Speaker 6: and Drew Wilkins are the two new coaches that they
- 1:51:50Speaker 6: brought in and they do adjust things.
- 1:51:52Speaker 4: Do you stick with the Belichick guy to but he's
- 1:51:56Speaker 4: also a Belichick guy, so baked into you know, experience
- 1:52:01Speaker 4: room and.
- 1:52:01Speaker 3: Stuff like that.
- 1:52:02Speaker 6: It's just I mean, it's you're going to start messing
- 1:52:04Speaker 6: with stuff. You know, what threads are you pulling out?
- 1:52:07Speaker 6: Are you pulling out the ones that we're here before?
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: Are you pulling out you know? Are you trying to
- 1:52:10Speaker 6: bring something new? Are you trying to you know, reevaluate.
- 1:52:13Speaker 6: I just think the big point is, you know, can
- 1:52:15Speaker 6: you run the Belichick defense without Belichick? That's kind of
- 1:52:18Speaker 6: the question. There's probably as simple as that.
- 1:52:21Speaker 5: There's a you know, just on the position coach front.
- 1:52:24Speaker 5: Jerry Montgomery is thing one.
- 1:52:25Speaker 3: To me, he's a good guy.
- 1:52:27Speaker 5: Like I'm not trying to rail against him by any means,
- 1:52:29Speaker 5: but there were talks at of Green Bay about their
- 1:52:33Speaker 5: run defense and about some issues with their defensive line
- 1:52:37Speaker 5: the year before, and then he comes here and the
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: run defense completely regresses with the Patriots as well. So
- 1:52:43Speaker 5: I just wonder, and you know, there's some chatter. I
- 1:52:45Speaker 5: think Badard said early on in the season that the
- 1:52:48Speaker 5: coaching there wasn't exactly the same as it had been
- 1:52:50Speaker 5: in years past. So I just wonder if maybe that
- 1:52:53Speaker 5: you know, that would be a potential move is to
- 1:52:55Speaker 5: get a defensive line.
- 1:52:56Speaker 6: But like connected to Mayo, you know, like DeMarcus Covington
- 1:52:59Speaker 6: was the defensive line coach last year, so just like
- 1:53:01Speaker 6: you would say, well, I thought Mayo was going to
- 1:53:03Speaker 6: kind of oversee things and make sure that didn't feel
- 1:53:05Speaker 6: like Comington. You know, he did a pretty good job
- 1:53:07Speaker 6: last year with the defensive line. But yeah, still something's
- 1:53:09Speaker 6: getting I feel.
- 1:53:10Speaker 4: For those guys too, because they played hard last year.
- 1:53:12Speaker 6: They did play hard.
- 1:53:13Speaker 5: Bill, they never call there was a tough guy.
- 1:53:17Speaker 6: Spe also points out there's also carrion, the noun meaning
- 1:53:21Speaker 6: to king flush of dead animals, which is pronounced like carry.
- 1:53:24Speaker 3: On, carry on.
- 1:53:26Speaker 6: I'm sorry, I'm lost, but c A R R I
- 1:53:29Speaker 6: O N carry on. We're muddy in the waters. Even
- 1:53:33Speaker 6: more here, let's see if Todd in North Carolina has
- 1:53:35Speaker 6: got any answers.
- 1:53:35Speaker 14: Hey Todd, Hey guys, I was just looking at the
- 1:53:41Speaker 14: teams that are doing well this year, and they all
- 1:53:43Speaker 14: have some semblance of a decent running game.
- 1:53:46Speaker 18: And then after Gronk was on the back and when
- 1:53:49Speaker 18: the year that Gronk was talking about some of those
- 1:53:52Speaker 18: years that we had like Veren, we had White, we
- 1:53:54Speaker 18: had Burke hit. How many running backs do you need
- 1:53:57Speaker 18: to carry in order to keep the team going so
- 1:54:00Speaker 18: that you got something going because we had almost four
- 1:54:02Speaker 18: running backs through a lot of those times when Gronk
- 1:54:06Speaker 18: was here, And do we need to fall back? That's
- 1:54:10Speaker 18: my question.
- 1:54:10Speaker 12: Thanks?
- 1:54:10Speaker 5: Okay, Look, I feel like a broken record. I've said
- 1:54:16Speaker 5: this a million times. Stop looking at the running backs
- 1:54:19Speaker 5: like it's the guys up front. Are the ones that
- 1:54:21Speaker 5: are doing all the work, like rex Burke head no offense,
- 1:54:24Speaker 5: Like these guys has no offense, but like rex Burke,
- 1:54:27Speaker 5: I was running behind Dante Scarneki's offensive line, Like that's
- 1:54:31Speaker 5: what made rex Burk and Rexburg.
- 1:54:33Speaker 4: I mean, I think it the more things you do well, obviously,
- 1:54:36Speaker 4: the more it helps you. If you want to have
- 1:54:38Speaker 4: a fullback, to me, I want to full back that's
- 1:54:41Speaker 4: versatile and can make plays like you know, like the
- 1:54:43Speaker 4: US check Kyle Wild check not you know, I don't.
- 1:54:46Speaker 4: I don't want to like a plow horse James Devlin type.
- 1:54:49Speaker 4: I know that worked. I don't think it's necessarily that important.
- 1:54:53Speaker 4: And I also, look, there's certainly Detroit, Philadelphia, Baltimore, they're
- 1:54:58Speaker 4: really good teams and they run the ball. Kansas City
- 1:55:01Speaker 4: doesn't run the ball all that well. Pittsburgh doesn't run
- 1:55:04Speaker 4: it great either. Right now, since Russell Wilson's come back,
- 1:55:07Speaker 4: I saw a lot of stats about him. They've had
- 1:55:09Speaker 4: the most explosive passing plays in the league since Russell
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: Wilson's return to the lineup. So, yeah, it's great if
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: you run the ball really well, it's it's good. It
- 1:55:18Speaker 4: doesn't hurt you. But it's not something that's it's not
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: like why they're not good, Like I just got to
- 1:55:24Speaker 4: run the ball run the ball back?
- 1:55:26Speaker 6: Well, some of us just like to look on the
- 1:55:28Speaker 6: field and see a number forty four with a neck
- 1:55:30Speaker 6: role who looks a little oversized. You're running back, just like.
- 1:55:34Speaker 5: If you're gonna do that sort of thing, like to
- 1:55:36Speaker 5: Paul's point, if you're gonna have a James Devilin type
- 1:55:40Speaker 5: full back, who I love, by the way, So no, no,
- 1:55:43Speaker 5: another great Patriots, But like why don't why wouldn't you
- 1:55:47Speaker 5: just use an extra offensive lineman at that point, right
- 1:55:49Speaker 5: because you're not gonna throw them the ball anyways. So
- 1:55:52Speaker 5: like the Patriots have been going. You know, Elegiby with City,
- 1:55:56Speaker 5: who I don't think has done a great job at it,
- 1:55:58Speaker 5: to be honest with you, But okay, maybe maybe we
- 1:56:00Speaker 5: get somebody that does a little bit better job. But
- 1:56:03Speaker 5: at the same time, it's like, you know, it might
- 1:56:04Speaker 5: as well just go six offensive lineman with one of
- 1:56:07Speaker 5: them in the backfield at that point, because it's already
- 1:56:09Speaker 5: a receiver you're not gonna throw the ball to. So like,
- 1:56:11Speaker 5: what difference does it make whether it's a full back
- 1:56:14Speaker 5: or it's a three hundred pound offensive lineman.
- 1:56:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, and like you know, Todd said, like
- 1:56:19Speaker 4: there are there are good teams, there are good offenses
- 1:56:21Speaker 4: in the league that they do run the ball.
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: Well, yeah, they also have to lead a lot.
- 1:56:25Speaker 4: So I'm not telling you, like, don't don't worry about
- 1:56:28Speaker 4: the running game, but I just don't think that, Like,
- 1:56:32Speaker 4: I think they have a lot of things to fix
- 1:56:33Speaker 4: that would be higher on the priority list than finding
- 1:56:36Speaker 4: more running backs. Like they have three on the roster.
- 1:56:39Speaker 4: They've had three on the roster all year, and I
- 1:56:42Speaker 4: think periodically those guys have done okay, but they can't
- 1:56:48Speaker 4: score enough.
- 1:56:49Speaker 5: Yeah, Like if you if they if the blocking includes
- 1:56:52Speaker 5: the Normandra Stevenson and Antonio Gibson are going to be
- 1:56:55Speaker 5: perfectly capable running backs for you. Are they going to
- 1:56:58Speaker 5: be Saquon Barkley?
- 1:56:59Speaker 4: No, but Gibson will stay. Isn't he only on a
- 1:57:02Speaker 4: one years Yeah?
- 1:57:04Speaker 5: But it's like it's like a fake three year contract though.
- 1:57:07Speaker 5: But on the team side, right.
- 1:57:09Speaker 4: I thought he signed a one year deal and I
- 1:57:11Speaker 4: figured he couldn't get out of here fast enough after
- 1:57:13Speaker 4: getting like five touches a weekend.
- 1:57:16Speaker 6: Andrew in La complicates things further. Uh, maybe we should
- 1:57:19Speaker 6: save this for Fred. But Fred, how should we sing
- 1:57:21Speaker 6: the hit song by Kansas carry on My wayward Son?
- 1:57:24Speaker 5: That's what I was. I can't hit that note.
- 1:57:30Speaker 4: You can hit that note musical, you knowe? I backed out.
- 1:57:35Speaker 6: I gotta get serious about my music. That's one of
- 1:57:37Speaker 6: my goals. I gotta get more. I gotta get a
- 1:57:40Speaker 6: don't want to get serious about my music?
- 1:57:41Speaker 11: You know?
- 1:57:42Speaker 4: Is that me start addresses goals start his band? I
- 1:57:46Speaker 4: guess they don't include us.
- 1:57:47Speaker 6: Can you can be in it?
- 1:57:48Speaker 5: You can be you will be my you'll be the roadie.
- 1:57:50Speaker 5: But I thought the Marin only operates on on wrapped though,
- 1:57:56Speaker 5: all we'll do fusion.
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: Rich you the craziest lyrics you'll hear.
- 1:58:02Speaker 6: I don't know if I want to sing those lyrics,
- 1:58:03Speaker 6: but uh one one final email here Andrew from Westchester,
- 1:58:07Speaker 6: just recommending and I haven't seen this, and I appreciate
- 1:58:09Speaker 6: the wreck. I gotta check it out. The Madden video
- 1:58:12Speaker 6: game doc on Amazon. He thought it was very well done,
- 1:58:15Speaker 6: with interviews with tons of current and former NFL players,
- 1:58:17Speaker 6: and offers a compelling storyline, not to mention has some
- 1:58:20Speaker 6: old interview footage with Madden and some interesting behind the
- 1:58:23Speaker 6: scenes content with him. Well, we're the watch. I will
- 1:58:26Speaker 6: check that out. Sounds pretty good. You are you guys mad?
- 1:58:28Speaker 16: And you mad?
- 1:58:28Speaker 6: And your kids mad?
- 1:58:29Speaker 5: I mean I'm maden that as.
- 1:58:30Speaker 4: A kid, I don't think they play as much as
- 1:58:33Speaker 4: they once did.
- 1:58:34Speaker 6: My son kicked my acid Madden last night and it's
- 1:58:36Speaker 6: like so depressing. And I just make jokes the whole time,
- 1:58:38Speaker 6: and I'm like, this is my job. And he but
- 1:58:40Speaker 6: he like knows all the tricks of the trade, you know,
- 1:58:42Speaker 6: like he like switches to the character that he's throwing
- 1:58:44Speaker 6: to and then like, I guess you can press wide.
- 1:58:47Speaker 5: I'm just pressing, well now, you know, back in the day,
- 1:58:49Speaker 5: now I think they've attempted to clean up some of
- 1:58:52Speaker 5: the like you know, oh, if I run this play,
- 1:58:55Speaker 5: it's gonna work every time, like bugs.
- 1:58:57Speaker 4: Oh really that they had that, Like bo Jackson I
- 1:59:00Speaker 4: discussed on that I discovered back in the day, there
- 1:59:03Speaker 4: was some plays that you know, I bet.
- 1:59:06Speaker 3: Bar knew them all that I would just.
- 1:59:08Speaker 4: Run annexation of Puerto Rican.
- 1:59:10Speaker 5: Yeah, it's kind of like remember the Titans when he
- 1:59:11Speaker 5: says they run three plays. Yeah, like I would run
- 1:59:14Speaker 5: the same three places, yeah with the Dynasty Patriots, and
- 1:59:17Speaker 5: they would work every single time because the computer would
- 1:59:21Speaker 5: always like do a certain type.
- 1:59:22Speaker 6: Of thing, and he always that seems against Evan though.
- 1:59:25Speaker 6: That seems like you'd really want to win legitimately with
- 1:59:28Speaker 6: scheme and you'd be like running, I want to think people.
- 1:59:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I had, Well, that's like the cheek code.
- 1:59:36Speaker 5: It was like you know, little nub formation right tight
- 1:59:39Speaker 5: ends for the sky out. You have gronk on the
- 1:59:41Speaker 5: corner route, which you could alert to a seam if
- 1:59:44Speaker 5: you wanted to. Yeah, And every once in a while
- 1:59:50Speaker 5: you just do it because it's more fun, you know.
- 1:59:52Speaker 5: You just like even though it wasn't really the right
- 1:59:54Speaker 5: thing to do, but you have Goronk on the corner route,
- 1:59:57Speaker 5: then you'd have like this was like probably like Shane
- 1:59:59Speaker 5: Vereen Patriots. You have him on the flat on that
- 2:00:03Speaker 5: side of the field, and then you have a little
- 2:00:05Speaker 5: option route in the middle of the field for Edelman,
- 2:00:07Speaker 5: but the corner in the flat, like you could just
- 2:00:10Speaker 5: high low all day long, right, Like you know, if
- 2:00:12Speaker 5: the flat defender plays Gronk, you just throw the running back.
- 2:00:15Speaker 5: If he sticks to the running back, you just throw
- 2:00:17Speaker 5: the corner rout. If it's Manta Man, you know you're
- 2:00:19Speaker 5: going to eighty seven, right, like eighty No one can
- 2:00:21Speaker 5: stick with eighty seven and Manta Man that play. You
- 2:00:24Speaker 5: could run that play for four quarters and score fifty points.
- 2:00:26Speaker 4: Yeah, be anyone less fun to play Madden with than
- 2:00:29Speaker 4: what he just described.
- 2:00:31Speaker 6: I gotta try it. But I was playing with the
- 2:00:32Speaker 6: twenty twenty three Patriots. A Zappi was my courter. I
- 2:00:35Speaker 6: don't know what I was doing, but.
- 2:00:36Speaker 4: Yeah, it was bad. You're trying to take your own
- 2:00:38Speaker 4: and beating his n Now he killed me.
