- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: You've probably heard of the Jules Verne novel Journey to the Center of the Earth, which was published in 1864.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: It was also made into a movie both in 1959 and then again in 2008.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: In each version of the story, a group of scientists and adventurers travel deep into the earth.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: They encounter all sorts of unexpected creatures and dangerous situations, sometimes barely escaping the jaws of death.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: And that's often how we view writing.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: We look at it as a journey that takes us somewhere else.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: And most of the time, our normal lives seem pretty boring in comparison to the worlds that we can imagine in our heads.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: But look at it from the opposite point of view.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: You don't necessarily have to take a crazy, dangerous journey somewhere to have a meaningful adventure.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: All you have to do is take a journey to the center of you.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: The filmmaker Joss Whedon said, I write to give myself strength.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: I write to be the characters that I am not.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: I write to explore all the things I'm afraid of.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: So don't be afraid to explore the unknown.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: The unknown regions of your heart and mind are far more exciting and terrifying than any place you could ever go on earth.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Then when you write them down, you can take us along for the ride too.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: I want to take a moment to let you know about our Daily Writer membership community.
