[SPEAKER_03]: Today, catch an up with Juliana Hadfield always a pleasure to get to talk to Juliana.
• 1:56
[SPEAKER_03]: And this time, we are discussing her 20th album, 20th.
• 2:00
[SPEAKER_03]: It's called Lightning Might Strike, a pop rock gym born from a rough couple of years that includes loss and depression and uprooting her longtime city life for a house in the woods.
• 2:11
[SPEAKER_03]: She's going to dig into writing through what she says is a long, slow, nervous breakdown.
• 2:16
[SPEAKER_03]: finding narrative threads and songs like Falls Apart, the unexpected heaviness behind the track popsicle, and how working alone at home, slow the process, but sharpened the focus.
• 2:27
[SPEAKER_03]: Juliana also will reflect on her early days in the Blake Babies, why some of that catalog is really hard to revisit, her reoccurring lyric motifs, and the possibility of returning to her acclaimed cover album series this time,
• 2:41
[SPEAKER_03]: with a full REM tribute.
• 2:44
[SPEAKER_03]: I could not be more excited about that.
• 2:46
[SPEAKER_03]: All that more as we discuss lightning might strike, it's Kyle Meredith with Julianna Hadfield.
• 2:52
  [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
• 2:53
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I mean, officially congratulate you on letting my strike.
• 2:57
[SPEAKER_03]: I love every time you give a record, and honestly mean that, and for there to be 20 of these at this point, I don't know why I'm surprised that I still love it as much, and every time I'm like, holy cow, this is still great.
• 3:11
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's really nice to hear, because yeah, I mean, I think that I would, I think I can feel that.
• 3:18
[SPEAKER_01]: When I'm making the records, I'm still inspired, and so I think if I were not, if I did not have that feeling, I wouldn't make records anymore, because I would know that they would fall flat if they lacked that.
• 3:31
[SPEAKER_01]: feeling that I need to have when I make it like this.
• 3:35
  [SPEAKER_03]: And that's it, right?
• 3:36
[SPEAKER_03]: Because you would think after you've been making records for a while and you've got the tools in your tool belts, like, do you know what you're looking for?
• 3:46
[SPEAKER_03]: Do you, is it something you start to realize when, like I guess what I'm asking is has inspiration change?
• 3:53
[SPEAKER_03]: Do you recognize it when it's starting to arrive in the same way that it maybe it had in the past?
• 3:58
[SPEAKER_01]: I definitely feel that I feel it's like something just sort of kicks in.
• 4:02
[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not always, it's not always there.
• 4:06
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's like people talk about writers block, which it's just another name.
• 4:12
[SPEAKER_01]: I think for not feeling that you're in the flow of it or you're not inspired.
• 4:17
[SPEAKER_01]: And, but I think that
• 4:20
[SPEAKER_01]: If I'm in, if I feel like that, I just try and help just walk away and come back another day.
• 4:26
[SPEAKER_01]: Or else you just keep pushing through the crap that you're writing.
• 4:31
[SPEAKER_01]: You just keep working on it, you know, it's like, that's just part of the process, I think.
• 4:37
[SPEAKER_01]: But I know, it's not that much fun to keep, like in a way, it's something that you know is not working.
• 4:43
[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'm going to probably walk and win.
• 4:46
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was writing a lot of these songs.
• 4:48
[SPEAKER_01]: I was working on them as I was recording them.
• 4:50
[SPEAKER_01]: I was especially with lyrics.
• 4:52
[SPEAKER_01]: The lyrics were really not done when I started working on recording music.
• 4:57
[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a lot of just like stopping to, you know, fill in the melodies with words.
• 5:05
[SPEAKER_01]: And that's that's the really maybe the trickiest part for me.
• 5:09
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's just the music.
• 5:10
[SPEAKER_01]: I can really tap into something with
• 5:14
[SPEAKER_01]: the music and then the lyrics take a bit longer.
• 5:16
  [SPEAKER_01]: That's magic.
• 5:18
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know that it's completely different, but that makes sense to me because there's it feels like a little bit more of a narrative style sometimes on this record than I think that's been there through times in the past, but not always the same way.
• 5:32
[SPEAKER_03]: But I do, but I do feel it.
• 5:34
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's beyond us, right?
• 5:35
[SPEAKER_03]: The album starts with Falls Apart and Long's Little Nervous Breakdown.
• 5:39
[SPEAKER_03]: It's like, that's a setup, like, and to hear you narrate through these songs, you know, with great melodies.
• 5:45
[SPEAKER_03]: I don't mean that you're talking the whole way through, you know, but, but it feels like you're being very upfront, I guess, with where you were in your life at this point.
• 5:57
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was starting by myself.
• 5:59
[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I felt like I was having a long slow nervous breakdown.
• 6:02
  [SPEAKER_01]: That's what I felt like.
• 6:03
[SPEAKER_01]: I just, you know, I wanted to express that.
• 6:07
[SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like I'm in the middle of a long slow nervous breakdown.
• 6:12
[SPEAKER_01]: And then I tried to, I mean, I have the titles.
• 6:14
[SPEAKER_01]: And then I try to explain what that means for me from my perspective, going through that.
• 6:20
[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, like I'm pretty honest about how I was feeling
• 6:26
[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't like to just, I don't keep a diary, and I don't like to just throw diary entries out there.
• 6:31
[SPEAKER_01]: I like to have a little bit of an S and nuance in the lyrics.
• 6:36
[SPEAKER_01]: And humor too, although, maybe the humor is not as apparent on this set of songs than some of my other albums.
• 6:43
[SPEAKER_01]: But, I mean, I think long-sought and ever spread down itself is kind of a funny expression.
• 6:49
  [SPEAKER_01]: It is my expression.
• 6:51
[SPEAKER_01]: This one, when you think of a nervous break it,
• 6:55
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a sudden flame out, you know, and you, and they take away in a straight jacket and there's nothing one a farm for a week.
• 7:04
[SPEAKER_01]: But no, this was like a long thing and a slow unraveling or whoever I put it.
• 7:11
[SPEAKER_03]: Um, do we still have funny forms?
• 7:15
[SPEAKER_01]: Lot, you can't sit, probably can't say that.
• 7:17
[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't think you can't not say that.
• 7:19
[SPEAKER_03]: That feels dated, but at the same time, safe.
• 7:23
[SPEAKER_03]: I love that I just haven't heard the phrase in a while.
• 7:25
  [SPEAKER_01]: I actually appreciate it.
• 7:26
  [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'll get 70s thing.
• 7:28
[SPEAKER_01]: My dad, when I was a kid in the 70s, I remember there was a knit, some neighbor lady or an acquaintance of them in our town.
• 7:37
[SPEAKER_01]: I had to go away for a while and I asked my dad, where did Mrs. Mrs. whatever go go, what did you go in my dad said oh she went to the funny farm funny farm and I said oh I don't know what that was and what's the funny farm me any my dad said it's where they plant people and so then we'll have these vision of like people's heads coming out of the ground and
• 8:03
[SPEAKER_03]: I have those same type of memories, my mom once, when I was probably around the same age you're talking about, too, it's, I didn't know what she did all day at work, and she said, well, I'm going to make pennies, and I instantly had this idea of like, um,
• 8:20
[SPEAKER_03]: like like those outside water spickets, you know, especially in the old country houses, like that she would just be pumping that in pennies would fall out the entire time and then oh yeah, and so how like how long does it hold onto that image?
• 8:32
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like he goes right.
• 8:35
  [SPEAKER_01]: Right.
• 8:36
[SPEAKER_03]: That part of it's like, and we'll be right back right after this.
• 8:40
  [SPEAKER_03]: Welcome back.
• 8:41
[SPEAKER_03]: It's Kyle Meredith with Julie and a head filled.
• 8:44
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's interesting too that you said,
• 8:48
[SPEAKER_03]: in the middle of the long-slow nervous breakdown that you decided to write the song.
• 8:54
[SPEAKER_03]: If I caught that right, like what an interesting point, like not from hindsight, like from the moments, like you're in it.
• 9:02
[SPEAKER_03]: And I guess there's a bit of a hopeful trust fall that you will eventually not be in that.
• 9:09
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, yeah, well, from the beginning, when I was in the black babies, I was always writing about my English, right, and my depression, my anxiety, and my hopeless crushes on horrible people and, well, not all horrible, but yeah, and I got, I always just kind of leaned into my angst and,
• 9:34
[SPEAKER_01]: I just I was turned to writing songs as a way to endure that.
• 9:42
[SPEAKER_01]: the pain or else maybe I was trying to make lemonade out of lemons?
• 9:47
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it's like whenever it's like if you have a bad breakup or something, the songwriter might be the first thought might be, you know, this is like a really good song or a really good album.
• 9:57
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like it's like something really bad happens.
• 10:00
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's material, right?
• 10:01
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not that I would ever go looking for drama or bad situations, but I think that writing my way out of things is it's my
• 10:12
[SPEAKER_01]: Processing what I'm going through, because I'm not always tuned into what I'm feeling or why, so I have to kind of write to figure out what's going on, you know, and also I know, I know from having been very depressed in the past, which I don't get very depressed than you what bit.
• 10:33
[SPEAKER_01]: In the past, it did, and I, what I learned from, I learned a lot from being depressed, but I, one important thing is to learn that it doesn't last forever.
• 10:43
[SPEAKER_01]: And then he will, if you're lucky, emerge on the other side of it.
• 10:49
[SPEAKER_01]: So I knew from experience that, I mean, it was a hard year.
• 10:52
[SPEAKER_01]: I had a, I have a disclet year, but I, I did have faith that it was, you know, it was going to come out of it.
• 10:59
[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to come out the other end of it.
• 11:03
[SPEAKER_03]: when you go through a time like this and we hear it also on songs like Ashes and constant companion and I think scratchers too.
• 11:11
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, does that end up coloring how you feel about the album later?
• 11:16
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, when you look at certain records, you know, that's as we say, right, that's the snapshot of our live during that moment or something.
• 11:24
[SPEAKER_03]: Like, does it make it any of your records more difficult than the others to look back on, in that sense?
• 11:33
[SPEAKER_01]: Blake baby's catalog is kind of difficult for me to listen to just because it was so so angsty back then and it's so just like I didn't know how to deal with my emotions that were really out of control.
• 11:46
[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know how to live, you know, it was really kind of a mess emotionally and socially.
• 11:53
[SPEAKER_01]: And also the sound of my voice was just like very
• 12:00
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like maybe it was just pretty difficult.
• 12:02
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that melada out in some ways since then, and it's easier for me to, I think I have more perspective or more self-awareness but when I'm writing, it's not like an explosion of, I don't know, it's not, it's not, it's not so much a cathartic explosion.
• 12:23
[SPEAKER_01]: It's more like controlling a little bit more.
• 12:27
[SPEAKER_01]: Do it's a benefit, I think, and we get in a good way, not over controlling it, but just controlling what I'm saying a little bit more, like there's a little bit more.
• 12:37
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's also, it must be, I guess I'll use the word, interesting, to have that kind of relationship, like when you're talking about the Blake Babies and everything, because how you look at that and how you feel about that and then knowing that there are people out there that's like, oh my god, that's my favorite, you know, and they're they're they're they're they're desire to
• 13:05
  [SPEAKER_03]: Is it?
• 13:05
[SPEAKER_03]: Is that the relationship you have with it?
• 13:07
[SPEAKER_03]: So I'm like, how does that?
• 13:09
[SPEAKER_03]: How do you handle that?
• 13:11
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's okay because I just think of the stuff that makes me uncomfortable or uneasy.
• 13:17
[SPEAKER_01]: It's, I think of it as something outside of myself.
• 13:21
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's like an entity.
• 13:23
  [SPEAKER_01]: That's like a, I think about that way.
• 13:27
[SPEAKER_01]: I think that way of what everyone's
• 13:29
  [SPEAKER_01]: musical persona.
• 13:30
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like the musical persona of someone.
• 13:35
[SPEAKER_01]: It's separate from who they are.
• 13:37
[SPEAKER_01]: I think larger than like
• 13:40
[SPEAKER_01]: Paul Westerberg, there's Paul Westerberg, the man, and then there's Paul Westerberg, the singing voice and the songs.
• 13:47
[SPEAKER_01]: And I really, I don't know if this is healthy or not, but I tend to think of them as to different beings almost.
• 13:56
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think of myself in the same way.
• 13:58
[SPEAKER_01]: I listen to my songs back when they're complete.
• 14:02
[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, wow, that's like, that's like some weird creature that
• 14:06
[SPEAKER_01]: a lot of me know like and I'm fascinated by it because it's not something that I have to control over, you know, I was born with whatever.
• 14:16
[SPEAKER_01]: knack I have for coming up with melodies and then I, you know, whatever the magic is that makes a song happen and our voice, you know, I definitely was born with whatever of what the voice I have, seeing voice, I can't change that really, I've tried, but I, it's this thing that comes out of me and it's not under my control, the sound of it is not.
• 14:40
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that is healthy.
• 14:42
[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's extremely healthy, especially the way some people do put weight on certain artists, you know, that isn't fair and everything to have a separation.
• 14:56
  [SPEAKER_03]: I think that's completely healthy.
• 14:58
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because then you can hopefully meet the artist on a more common ground if you make the artist.
• 15:06
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, you can see that, oh, this is a person.
• 15:09
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's not a God.
• 15:10
[SPEAKER_01]: Or it's sometimes it does get confusing when you meet people who are super famous.
• 15:16
[SPEAKER_01]: There is definitely a, it's odd until you spend time with a person, get to know them.
• 15:22
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's a little bit odd if they're admitted
• 15:25
[SPEAKER_03]: and sometimes there's nothing you can do about it.
• 15:28
  [SPEAKER_03]: I've had those moments.
• 15:30
[SPEAKER_01]: Right, the feeling that you have?
• 15:31
  [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
• 15:35
[SPEAKER_01]: It's sort of like a thing surrounding the person.
• 15:37
[SPEAKER_01]: They can't brush it off.
• 15:38
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's just there.
• 15:39
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's a phenomenal phenomenon.
• 15:42
[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, you have to have those those people who are quite used to it.
• 15:45
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, like I think Paul McCartney knows how to handle his fame very, very well.
• 15:49
  [SPEAKER_01]: He gets very proud.
• 15:55
  [SPEAKER_01]: navigate all that.
• 15:58
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think really probably destroy some people because it's still going to be so weird every time you walk out the door, people are like, staring at you, how awful would that be?
• 16:08
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think the fame must be a curse or a punishment for a success or something like that.
• 16:15
[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not, I'm not saying, I'm not considering myself one of those people, but
• 16:24
  [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
• 16:26
  [SPEAKER_03]: That it out.
• 16:27
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I, you know,
• 16:29
[SPEAKER_03]: getting to do what I've done for 25 years or so.
• 16:32
[SPEAKER_03]: And you do, you get to a moment where, you know, camaraderie and you become friends and everything.
• 16:37
[SPEAKER_03]: But there are those people.
• 16:38
[SPEAKER_03]: Geez, I mean, the first time I ever met Stike, I didn't know I was gonna meet him.
• 16:42
[SPEAKER_03]: It was at a dinner.
• 16:44
[SPEAKER_03]: And it's like, I should be able to have a conversation.
• 16:46
  [SPEAKER_03]: I can't say a damn thing.
• 16:47
  [SPEAKER_03]: I can't say a damn thing.
• 16:49
  [SPEAKER_01]: Why?
• 16:50
[SPEAKER_01]: The nervous system is affected by whatever scene it's.
• 16:56
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, whatever that aura is, it's the weirdest thing.
• 16:59
[SPEAKER_03]: and we'll be right back right after this.
• 17:02
  [SPEAKER_03]: Welcome back.
• 17:03
[SPEAKER_03]: It's Kyle, Meredith with Julie and a head filled.
• 17:05
[SPEAKER_03]: I've been talking a lot about the heaviness of it too, but like popsicle, which is such a fun song.
• 17:11
[SPEAKER_03]: And I will admit, I have no clue what that song is about right now.
• 17:15
[SPEAKER_03]: I just know how it makes me feel.
• 17:18
  [SPEAKER_01]: Feel good?
• 17:18
[SPEAKER_03]: And it feels great, you know, because...
• 17:23
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, the idea of the, you know, the popsicle everything, I mean, there's some nostalgia there and the music feels like it kind of goes in on that.
• 17:29
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it's just, it is, especially in some of these heavier moments that it feels like this old moment of levity, how close is that to the truth?
• 17:39
[SPEAKER_01]: Totally wrong, but I'm sure this is the opposite.
• 17:44
  [SPEAKER_03]: Oh, not surprised.
• 17:45
[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's like, I'm kind of equating a dripping popsicle to my dripping my mind is melting and the way I'm falling apart.
• 17:56
[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a popsicle dripping or my hopes and dreams are melting away.
• 18:02
  [SPEAKER_01]: That kind of thing.
• 18:05
  [SPEAKER_03]: That's good summarizing.
• 18:06
[SPEAKER_01]: What yet, no, I love what you took from it.
• 18:10
  [SPEAKER_01]: I think that's totally fine.
• 18:11
[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to know what I mean.
• 18:13
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just like the act of singing that melody and playing those crunchy chords.
• 18:20
  [SPEAKER_01]: That is levity.
• 18:22
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's fun for me.
• 18:23
[SPEAKER_01]: This is the subject matter that the fun of playing and singing it kind of counteracts the heaviness of the city.
• 18:32
[SPEAKER_01]: And it balances it all out.
• 18:35
[SPEAKER_03]: And you did, did you, did you do all this at your house as usual and the apartment I guess in the past?
• 18:41
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, my house, I did, I did all of my parts in the house.
• 18:45
[SPEAKER_01]: So just the drums and most of the bass were done in the city.
• 18:50
[SPEAKER_01]: And by that last case in Chris Andes-Loney.
• 18:55
  [SPEAKER_01]: I played bass in a couple.
• 18:56
[SPEAKER_01]: I played the bass in a popsicle and a couple of other songs.
• 19:02
[SPEAKER_03]: And I guess that's part of the story.
• 19:03
[SPEAKER_03]: Like you sort of left this city behind for this out of the apartment life for the house.
• 19:08
[SPEAKER_03]: Like did that change anything about the music or is that part of the influence part of the story?
• 19:18
[SPEAKER_01]: I was part of why I left the city was that I wanted more space and room to just
• 19:28
[SPEAKER_01]: make my endoways and not have to worry about the downstairs neighbors, hearing it, or being, not that anyone ever blamed about the music that I always, I worried about it and I was self-conscious about it.
• 19:39
[SPEAKER_01]: So I felt that it couldn't be totally free when I was recording an apartment.
• 19:45
[SPEAKER_01]: But I think being alone in the house made it took me longer to get the album done.
• 19:53
[SPEAKER_01]: I think just because it wasn't easy for me to just help my car and go to the studio or to go to work out the part of Ed and Chris, it was like, you know, I'm gonna try and say, I can be slow.
• 20:10
  [SPEAKER_01]: I guess I'm just slow.
• 20:11
[SPEAKER_01]: When I don't have days, it's booked in the studio.
• 20:14
[SPEAKER_01]: I'm left to my own devices and I sometimes am only good for like an hour's work,
• 20:20
[SPEAKER_01]: music on recording a day that all the technology and the engineering really where dreams mean so I can only do an hour or two in.
• 20:29
[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's kind of slogged being alone, no help, but somehow I got it done, took a long time.
• 20:38
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, it still arrives right on time, but it's only been, I'm trying to remember two years since the last release, like that's normal.
• 20:46
  [SPEAKER_01]: That's normal, yeah, that's easy.
• 20:51
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I don't album every year, you know, I didn't make it this time.
• 20:57
[SPEAKER_03]: Is that still the goal?
• 20:59
[SPEAKER_03]: I just turned into a greedy fan, by the way, when I asked that.
• 21:01
  [SPEAKER_03]: That's what that was.
• 21:02
  [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's about a year.
• 21:05
[SPEAKER_01]: And out of the years, probably too much for most people.
• 21:07
[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, oh, god, another two and a half.
• 21:10
[SPEAKER_01]: The ones that are paying attention.
• 21:14
[SPEAKER_01]: No, I think I could still do it.
• 21:16
  [SPEAKER_01]: If I, I would try.
• 21:18
[SPEAKER_03]: You've had, I mean, I don't know if the cover series is going to continue, but that feels like that's an easy out for that.
• 21:24
[SPEAKER_03]: Like you've always got that in your back pocket.
• 21:27
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I could do that.
• 21:28
[SPEAKER_01]: If I do one cover without one of the Latinos, it's, I like that.
• 21:32
  [SPEAKER_01]: That's schedule.
• 21:33
  [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
• 21:34
[SPEAKER_01]: I like the back of both of that.
• 21:37
[SPEAKER_03]: Do you know who you'd want to do?
• 21:38
[SPEAKER_03]: Do you think about that?
• 21:38
[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to give you the answer, but hidden.
• 21:44
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, you're looking at who you want to cover over my shoulder?
• 21:47
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 21:48
  [SPEAKER_03]: Which one, Bowie?
• 21:49
  [SPEAKER_03]: No.
• 21:50
  [SPEAKER_03]: Are you impressed?
• 21:51
  [SPEAKER_03]: I am.
• 21:52
  [SPEAKER_03]: Are you?
• 21:53
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, could you do an REM album?
• 21:56
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I've talked about a lot in other interviews, but that's what I want to do now.
• 22:02
  [SPEAKER_01]: Good idea.
• 22:04
  [SPEAKER_01]: It's very daunting.
• 22:05
[SPEAKER_01]: They will a lot of records, many of which I've not heard.
• 22:08
[SPEAKER_01]: The latter day ones I haven't even ever heard.
• 22:10
[SPEAKER_01]: So I would have still a lot of research.
• 22:13
[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, it's a second focus on the first, the first half of their discography.
• 22:19
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you do the 80s, Ari.
• 22:20
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, if you want to later, you do the 90s, Ari.
• 22:22
[SPEAKER_03]: And that's the, well, what's out of that?
• 22:25
[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the first one would be Ari.
• 22:27
[SPEAKER_01]: Julianna had those things Ari and volume one.
• 22:29
  [SPEAKER_03]: There it is.
• 22:30
  [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
• 22:31
[SPEAKER_03]: My, all of me, my, all of my brain cells just exploded in the, uh, the idea that I, I really hope this comes to fruition.
• 22:37
[SPEAKER_01]: That's, well, I've been talking about it.
• 22:39
[SPEAKER_01]: So I think I have to do it at this point.
• 22:41
[SPEAKER_03]: That's a good thing to wait to make sure that you have to do it.
• 22:44
[SPEAKER_03]: If you put it out there at the time, you're like, well, I've said I'm going to do it.
• 22:46
[SPEAKER_01]: So Or it would be like, you know, where are one guns and roses will working at said they were working on Chinese democracy
• 23:01
[SPEAKER_01]: Because I didn't care that they released it, finally.
• 23:04
  [SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
• 23:05
[SPEAKER_01]: Wait, you know, does that actually people care?
• 23:07
[SPEAKER_03]: It's kind of a drag when I, I mean, I think some people love that.
• 23:11
[SPEAKER_03]: And that's my, I'm projecting my own personal thing on that.
• 23:13
[SPEAKER_03]: It was for such a long build-up.
• 23:16
[SPEAKER_03]: That was the problem with that.
• 23:17
[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was easier right away, you know, been fine.
• 23:20
[SPEAKER_01]: It would have to be somewhat of a, it would have to be somewhat of a let down just because of all the time that it got on by the,
• 23:26
[SPEAKER_01]: you know, like how could how could it ever live up to.
• 23:29
  [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
• 23:30
[SPEAKER_01]: The series, you know, waiting for it.
• 23:33
  [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
• 23:34
  [SPEAKER_03]: Right.
• 23:34
[SPEAKER_03]: That's kind of the thing that we all play with in this business.
• 23:39
[SPEAKER_01]: Now I should know not to talk about it.
• 23:43
[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be great.
• 23:45
[SPEAKER_03]: There is one, I can't remember which song it was and I only made the note, but there was one moment on this album.
• 23:51
[SPEAKER_03]: I was wondering if it was a callback because you said, I'm the only sister and the only daughter.
• 23:56
[SPEAKER_03]: And I was like, I wonder if that's sort of setting the record straight for the song sister.
• 24:02
[SPEAKER_01]: Well, one exact, it's kind of big, but yeah, it was aware that it might make people think my song, my sister.
• 24:13
[SPEAKER_01]: And I wasn't really trying to say anything about this.
• 24:17
[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't trying to say like, oh, I'm the sister and so.
• 24:20
[SPEAKER_01]: I just, I was just saying a true fact.
• 24:22
[SPEAKER_01]: I think I'm the only daughter in the only sister.
• 24:26
[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'm only the only sister to my brothers.
• 24:30
[SPEAKER_01]: I had no other sister and I was the only daughter to my parents.
• 24:34
  [SPEAKER_01]: I was
• 24:35
[SPEAKER_01]: trying to make that a fact and to, yeah, I guess part of me was unconsciously wanting to make people think about thinking about that.
• 24:43
[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I was referenced, I guess I was referencing without realizing it as referencing my song, my sister, because feeling like kind of alone in my family in a way.
• 24:55
[SPEAKER_03]: Do you ever, um, have you ever done that?
• 25:00
[SPEAKER_03]: Have you ever, like, directly wrote
• 25:05
[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but I do know that if used a certain core progression several times on several different homes, it's not, it's a certain like risk that I use over and over and I don't also know notices.
• 25:19
[SPEAKER_01]: And then also there's a certain lyric that I've used at least three zones and the lyric is trying to get through this night without any help from anyone.
• 25:32
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it's an interesting idea of the sequels, and that would be an interesting idea by the way for a random and its own sequel songs.
• 25:38
[SPEAKER_03]: But in the meantime, seriously, landing mice strike.
• 25:41
[SPEAKER_03]: It's so good, and I'm definitely not afraid to over-accompliment you on this because you deserve every single bit of it.
