- 0:59Hey, you're half welcome. Today's show been late today. You remember in
- 1:04yesterday's show I was recording with this huge storm came up and yeah, well
- 1:11for about I don't even know twelve hours plus we had fifty mile prior winds
- 1:17and gus I think they said is sixty nine. Well into like five in
- 1:25the morning there was just like stuff falling on the roof and power was blinking
- 1:29in out, So I don't even much sleep. Then today a lot of
- 1:36cleanup was done and a lot more will have to be done because it looks
- 1:40like a freaking hurricane has hit and there's just limbs and stuff down everywhere.
- 1:47So I'm very, very tired. I'm going to try to keep this one
- 1:52short. We just want to finish up yesterday's podcast on the nature of the
- 2:00creation and nature of man and the immortality and nature of the soul. But
- 2:07as always, we'll start with radio replies. The person asks, yet,
- 2:15surely the only thing wrong is to do wrong? Really vague statement, isn't
- 2:23it. I mean, who defines right and wrong? Well, the pre's
- 2:25answer, and is not one doing wrong? When he refuses to bother about
- 2:30doctrinal belief? What did Christ say? He that believes in me shall be
- 2:36saved. Why did he send the apostles to teach doctrine? Not only are
- 2:40good works required, but also true faith. A person says christian is a
- 2:46thing, christian is not a thing to be proved. It is a life
- 2:50to be lived. The answer that is taking refuge incredulity. Every rational man,
- 2:58if he does a thing, should know why he does it. Moreover,
- 3:00Christianity is a set of truth to be believed in as well as to
- 3:05be believed. It imposes obligations upon the intelligence, as well as upon the
- 3:09will and the passions. Jesus said, repent and believe in the Gospel.
- 3:15But before a reasonable man believes, he must either prove the doctrine true in
- 3:21itself, or at least that God has revealed it. Then he knows that
- 3:24it must be true, though he himself does not fully comprehend it. To
- 3:29say that God is indifferent as to whether a man is Protestant or Catholic goes
- 3:34very close to blasphemy. If he revealed the doctrines of Protestantism, he could
- 3:38not possibly be pleased with one who would deliberately accept to be the opposite.
- 3:43By embracing Catholicism, and the person says, there is both good and bad
- 3:49in all churches. And they answer, if you mean that there are good
- 3:53and bad men in all religion, you're right. But if you mean that
- 3:55the teachings of all churches, including the Catholic Church, are partly true and
- 4:00partially false, you are wrong. The teachings of all non Catholic churches are
- 4:04partly true and partly false. Partly true for a religion consisting wholy of error
- 4:10could not exist partly false, because all non Catholic churches are a denial that
- 4:15Christ made a sufficient provision for a church he established. But not a single
- 4:19false doctrine is to be found in the official teaching of the Catholic Church,
- 4:24which is the work not of man but of God. If a man is
- 4:28obliged to accept the truth, it is in its entirety, and not a
- 4:33fragment of the truth. He is obliged to accept the Catholic Church as his
- 4:38guide. And the person responds, Protestants know that no more is needed than
- 4:44prayer in their own hearts. They answer, few Protestants would thank you for
- 4:48that dreadful description of their religion. Nothing more as necessary. Do what you
- 4:54like, but say that of prayer in your own heart. Also had christ
- 5:00one doctrine to give, namely, say a prayer in your own heart.
- 5:02He went a very strange way about teaching that doctrine. Yes, that that's
- 5:11a very modern Interestingly, there's nineteen thirties. It's a very modern Protestant attitude.
- 5:17Probably would have been quite the minority opinion at the time. You certainly
- 5:23would not have found that in traditional Lutheran Anglican Presbyterian certainly. No. Yeah,
- 5:35Interestingly, anyway, modernism was creeping in in the nineteen thirties. Well,
- 5:42obviously it was as the whole world was about to be set on fire
- 5:46by Nazis and Soviets and everything. Well, I mean the Soviets were already
- 5:51there, but they weren't well, as of yet threatening the world. I
- 5:58should say, the Communists were. They were not as of yet threatening the
- 6:01world with atheism. And you know what is the opposite side of the coin
- 6:08to atheism, Well, it actually is not orthodox Christianity by any means,
- 6:15because atheism opposes all religion. The flip side of the coin to atheism is
- 6:20actually that same kind of unitarian universalist all religion is valid well, that's sort
- 6:30of the opposite of no religion is valid, right, So all right,
- 6:34let's get into follows. For Rago talking about original sin. The story of
- 6:41the fall of Man is true, not a mere fable. This is the
- 6:45general opinion of theologians. God imposed on man in Paradise a precept. He
- 6:49forbade him to eat of the fruit of one of the trees which stood in
- 6:53the midst of the garden of Eden. The fruit of the tree of good
- 6:56and evil was not bann in of itself for God and not place anything there
- 7:00that was evil. In Paradise, it was only bad and injurious to man,
- 7:04because it was forbidden. By obedience to this precept. God intended that
- 7:10Adam and Eve should marrit eternal happiness. It was the intention of God to
- 7:14bestow upon our first parents eternal happiness and inherence. It was to be theirs
- 7:18as children of God, but as a happiness that has earned is a greater
- 7:24happiness than one, and one of greater value than if it was bestowed without
- 7:28any action deserving of it. God, in his goodness, decreed that man
- 7:32should earn it as a reward of obedience. If man had not transgressed the
- 7:38command of God, he would have passed without pain and without death, from
- 7:43the earthly into the celestial paradise. The posterity of Adam would have come into
- 7:46existence like him in a state of original justice. They would have died as
- 7:51Adam died if they had sin like him, but the sin would not have
- 7:56passed on to their children. For Adam alone was a point the head and
- 8:00representative to the human race. Man allowed himself to be led astray by the
- 8:05devil and transgress the precept of his creator. The devil was envious of the
- 8:09happiness of our first parents. By the envy of the devil, death came
- 8:15into the world. That's from the Book of Wisdom, and one of those
- 8:18books where as always say, if you don't have that book in your Bible,
- 8:20you need a better Bible. The devil was a murderer from the beginning.
- 8:24That's John eighty four. He deceived Eve by a lie, hence our
- 8:31Lord calls him the father of lies. John also John eight four. He
- 8:37took a visible form because of a mere internal suggestion, would have had no
- 8:41power to influence the mind of our first parents in their state of original justice.
- 8:48He took the form of a serpent, because God would allow him to
- 8:50take no other, and the serpent was a fit emblem of his cunning and
- 8:54poisonous wickedness. Saint Augustine tells us that Adam and Eve had already admitted the
- 9:01beginnings of evil by thinking little of God and allowing themselves to be distracted by
- 9:05visible and palpable things. This was the occasion of temptation. Their great happiness
- 9:11had made them unwary, and Eve foolishly lingered near the tree of knowledge of
- 9:16good and evil and listened to the serpent instead of turning away at once.
- 9:20The common tradition among the fathers is that Adam was created on Friday and fell
- 9:24on the falling Friday, at the same hour at which our Lord on good
- 9:28Friday died upon the cross. The transgression of the precept of God had disastrous
- 9:37consequences, and man lost sanctifying grace and all his supernatural gifts, and also
- 9:43suffered injuries, both in soul and body. The disobedience of our first parents
- 9:48received this severe punishment because the law given them was one that it was easy
- 9:52for them to obey, and because they had such a high degree of knowledge.
- 9:56The sin they committed was a mortal sin, it would not have been
- 10:01necessary for God himself to die upon the cross in order to expiate it.
- 10:05From the cost of the remedy, we may judge the deadly nature of the
- 10:09wound. Just as the man who fell among thieves on the road to Jericho
- 10:13was robbed of his goods and also sorely wounded. So man was robbed by
- 10:18Satan of his supernatural gifts and was sorely wounded in his natural gifts. In
- 10:24other words, the supernatural likeness to God was lost, and his whole nature
- 10:28a body and soul alike, was disfigured and weakened. Original sin injured the
- 10:33soul of man in the following ways. His understanding was darkened, his will
- 10:37was weakened and made prone to evil. He lost supernatural grace and thus became
- 10:43displeasing to God and could no more enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. His
- 10:50understanding was darkened, i e. He had not the same knowledge of the
- 10:54nature of God, of the will of God, the end of life,
- 10:56et cetera. His will was weakened sin, for by sin, the harmony
- 11:03between his spiritual and his sensible faculties was destroyed, so that the inclinations of
- 11:07his senses, no longer submitted to the revolt of the domination of his reason,
- 11:13the flesh rebelled against the spirit, and punishment for man's rebellion against God.
- 11:18Hence, Saint Paul says, I see another law in my members fighting
- 11:20against the law of my mind Romans seven twenty three. The flesh lusteth against
- 11:28the spirit Galatians five, p. Seventeen. Henceforward, man's nature was drawn
- 11:33toward the things of sense, as iron is drawn by the power of a
- 11:35magnet. Many other evil tendencies also arose in him. Doubt in the goodness
- 11:41of God, his truth and justice, vanity and pride, etc. Eve,
- 11:46who had fancied that she was going to become like God, condemned herself
- 11:50in her posterity to foolish curiosity, to the love of dress and ill tim
- 11:58That's all hard when to say, lookquacosity, loquaciousness is over talkativeness, and
- 12:05this would be low quosity, I guess would be the way you would pronounce
- 12:09it. L o q uac I t y loquacity loquacity. I'll go with
- 12:18loquacity, not a word I've ever pronounced before in my life. Man has
- 12:24not lost the freedom of his will by original sin, else he would not
- 12:30have the consciousness of being able to exercise choice or the feeling of remorse when
- 12:35he had yielded. Our first parents also lost sanctifying grace, the justice and
- 12:41holiness in which they were created, and the friendship of God which accompanied it.
- 12:46He who dies still burdened with original sin cannot see the face of God
- 12:50in heaven, but he does not suffer the pains of hell unless he has
- 12:52committed grievous sin himself. Children who die unbaptized or this is old old doctrine,
- 13:00okay, in follows Sarrago's time, it was believed positive never a statement
- 13:09given one way or the other officially by the church that children who died on
- 13:13baptized couldn't go to heaven. We were in limbo. The church now says
- 13:18that is absolutely not true, that they would be baptized had the knowledge of
- 13:24God, and as they are completely innocent, they go directly to heaven.
- 13:28So we'll just skip this next line because it obviously provides undue upset to you
- 13:37know, parents who lose children early in life or before they're born. We
- 13:45have to do that. In radio replies as well. From nineteen thirty one,
- 13:48there's actually been some Marian apparitions which validate that she takes care of unborn
- 13:56children and children who die in emphasis. So we don't need to we don't
- 14:01need to go down the road original sin did not. Original sin did injury
- 14:09to the body of man in the following ways. He became subject to sickness
- 14:13and death. He was shut out from paradise and had to labor and suffer.
- 14:16Woman became subject to man. The forces of nature and the lower animals
- 14:20had power to injure man. Lastly, the devil had permission from God to
- 14:26tempt him to sin and to injure him in his temporal possessions. Man was
- 14:31condemned to dye in consequence of original sin. God said to Adam and the
- 14:35sweat of thy brow, shall they eat thy bread until thou return to the
- 14:41eternal, Until they return to the earth from which thou wast taken. For
- 14:46dust thou art, and to dust thou shall return Genesis three, nineteen.
- 14:52Of these words, the church reminds us on Ash Wednesday, when the priest
- 14:56places the ashes on the heads of the faithful. Death is the worst consequence
- 15:01of original sin, but the death of the body is but the sensible image
- 15:05of the terrible and eternal death of the soul, from which man can only
- 15:09be delivered through the redemption of Christ and by penance. The exclusion from the
- 15:15earthly paradise also had its meaning, and was meant to remind man how his
- 15:20sin excludes him from the celestial paradise of heaven. Man had also to labor
- 15:26hard. God said to Adam, cursed is the earth in thy work with
- 15:30labor, and toil, thou shalt eat the fruit thereof all the days of
- 15:33thy life Genesis three seventeen. Because of this curse, the Church makes use
- 15:41of various blessings on material things. Woman had to be subject to her husband
- 15:46because she had led him into disobedience, and had to bear children in sorrow
- 15:50because she had involved them in the sorrow. To involved them in sorrow through
- 15:54her disobedience. The lower animals also receive power to injure man, and he
- 16:00had revolved against his God, his master, so it was only just that
- 16:03they should rebel against him. The devil has also a great influence over a
- 16:08man, in accordance with the saying of holy scripture, by whom a man
- 16:12is overcome of the same. Also as he made a slave tewod Peter two
- 16:18nineteen. He can tempt them more easily and lead them into mortal sin.
- 16:22He can also injure them in the worldly goods references Job. He is the
- 16:26prince of this world and has the empire of death he Brews two fourteen.
- 16:33A heavy yoke lies upon the shoulder of the shoulders of the children of Adam,
- 16:37from the day of their birth to the day of their death Ecclesiastes.
- 16:42The punishments that God sent upon man were a valuable medicine to counter the effects
- 16:48of sin. Sickness, death, the necessity of labor, and the subjection
- 16:52of men to one another were intended to check the pride and sensuality. Man
- 16:56was driven out of paradise, lest these should eat of the tree of life
- 17:02and so live forever in this valley of tears. His management was also an
- 17:07effective means of leading him to penance. The sin of our first parents,
- 17:11with all its evil consequences, has passed on to their descendants. Not merely
- 17:15the consequence of sin, but sin itself has in some sense passed on from
- 17:19Adam to his descendants. So it is true of all of them that they
- 17:23have sinned in Adam. If it were not so, God could not,
- 17:27with justice have visited that sin upon them. We are all by nature children
- 17:32of wrath, it so Ephesians two three. But we participate in the sin
- 17:37of Adam, as members of the body, partake in the sin that the
- 17:40soul commits through their agency by putting them in motion to perform a sinful act.
- 17:45Suppose a king bestows an a state upon one of his servants, so
- 17:49the condition that the servant remained faithful to him, he is unfaithful, and
- 17:55thereby loses the estate not only he, but also his whole posterity. So
- 18:00it is with original sin. We must also remember that original sin and all
- 18:04its consequences are not anything positive, but are the absence of that which would
- 18:10otherwise be present. It is the absence of the supernatural grace of God,
- 18:14of original justice, with all the privileges and perfections that it carries with it.
- 18:18When we say that we have sin and atom, this does not mean
- 18:22we have imitated adam sin by some positive active of our own. All children
- 18:29of sin and atom, even though absolutely free from any personal active sin,
- 18:33the sin that we inherit from Adam is called original sin. We are retained
- 18:37with sin, before we draw our first breath or see the light of day.
- 18:41We are conceived in sin. According to Psalms one seven, even the
- 18:45children of Christians are born in sin. Not only the seed of the wild
- 18:51olive, but also the cultivative olive comes up as a wild plant. So
- 18:57it is with the children of Christians as well as the heathen parents. Only
- 19:00Jesus Christ and his Holy Mother were free from original sin. All mankind,
- 19:06save Christ and our Blessed Lady, were conceived in sin. Saint John the
- 19:11Baptist, according to Luke one fifteen, and probably the prophet Jeremiah Jeremiah one
- 19:17point five, were born without sin, having been cleansed from sin in their
- 19:21mother's womb, but they were not conceived without sin. Some believe that Saint
- 19:26Joseph was also born free from sin. All other men were cleansed from sin
- 19:30and baptism. The history of man is unintelligible to those who do not believe
- 19:34the a doctrine of original sin. Oh, how great the misery that original
- 19:38sin is brought into the world, Yet how few there are who are conscious
- 19:45conscious of their misery. Men are like children born in slavery, who laugh
- 19:49and play and enjoy themselves as if they are free. It is only the
- 19:52saints, who know the emptiness of the joys of earth, who lament over
- 19:56the misery of sin. All right, y'all, we'll wrap it up there.
- 20:02I am exhausted. I'm gonna have supper and go to bed early.
- 20:06Y'all have a good one. In the words of Saint padre Pa, pray,
- 20:08hope and don't worry, and I'll talk to you next up.
