- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning and welcome to the last day of the
- 0:32year. It's always amazing to me how
- 0:35this day feels like such a crunch time for me.
- 0:38I mean, in my head I'm not relaxed on the last day because
- 0:43I'm like, oh, what else can I get done?
- 0:45What else can I get done? And I take on as a challenge to
- 0:50see how much can I get done. I don't know why it is
- 0:54ridiculous. I am the master of my own ship.
- 0:57I don't understand why I have to make myself insane about it, but
- 1:01I do. And I try to push and push and
- 1:03push and push and push and push. And, you know, this week in
- 1:07between Christmas and New Year's is traditionally my time to sit
- 1:11down and make my plans and map out and create new vision boards
- 1:14and all of that. And this year I started just
- 1:17like that, same as always. I'm doing the same thing.
- 1:20But I, I don't actually go back to work until Monday.
- 1:23So I've given myself some grace, which is new for me in this
- 1:27case, and saying, OK, well, I'm going to take my time and really
- 1:31do this over the next couple of days.
- 1:33So here I am sitting here in front of a fireplace talking to
- 1:36you with my, you know, notes all around me and trying to figure
- 1:40out, OK, I'm put choosing from my possibilities list, really
- 1:44kind of hunkering in and digging in, knowing full well that when
- 1:47the sun comes up, I'm going to stop for a change.
- 1:50And I'm going to go out and we're going to work on the bird
- 1:52feeder. And then I'm going to see how
- 1:55far we get with that. And then I'm going to have my
- 1:58daughter and her husband and the baby here for our New Year's Eve
- 2:02celebration, which I'm so excited about because normally
- 2:06they're, you know, since they, they're, you know, young hunger,
- 2:11they're out there typically doing their own thing.
- 2:14But this year, now they have a baby.
- 2:17They're like, oh, can we join you?
- 2:19And it just melts my heart. So we are having them over.
- 2:25My husband is making a New England clam chowder.
- 2:29Couldn't get that out for a second from scratch.
- 2:32He makes the most amazing New England clam chowder and then we
- 2:35are having steaks that he does with his compound butters.
- 2:39He's very much a chef and I'm so excited about that because that
- 2:43is an amazing way to end the year.
- 2:45And she and I are going to sit down and work on planning when
- 2:50she's here. And again, that fits a full
- 2:53circle because when she was little we used to sit down.
- 2:56There was a girl named Jamie that was a big part of my life.
- 2:58Jamie was my right hand person. She helped me with the kids.
- 3:01She helped me with the house. And when I traveled all over the
- 3:04world for Tony Robbins, Jamie took care of my life and she was
- 3:08a godsend. I mean, she was literally the
- 3:10universe sent her right to me and she and I bonded and she was
- 3:1521 years old and the most responsible kid I had ever met
- 3:18in my life. And she would run my house like,
- 3:21you know, a perfectly, you know, organized entity that it was
- 3:28when I was there. And that's what made me so
- 3:31happy. It was a well oiled machine.
- 3:34And Jamie would always sit down with me sometime between
- 3:39Christmas and New Year's, we would do our vision boarding
- 3:41parties and she would sit down and we would make vision boards.
- 3:44And Maddie was always a part of that.
- 3:46And it was so cool. And to have her at that age, you
- 3:49know, being involved in that, sitting in front of the
- 3:51fireplace and doing it. So to know that Maddie is going
- 3:56to be a part of it again now tonight and doing this feels
- 4:00just so full circle. And it feels like I'm passing on
- 4:04those traditions. And this is the way I recommend
- 4:09trying to figure out how to wrap up your year.
- 4:11Figure out instead of being crazy like I normally am where
- 4:15I'm pushing, pushing, pushing to get everything done.
- 4:17What are the things that you know are important and
- 4:20traditions that you want to bring together?
- 4:22Because that's what this is all about, right?
- 4:25That's what the Scottish song, the old anxine talks about.
- 4:30You know, you're releasing the old, you're bringing in the new.
- 4:34And it is a, it is part of the ritual to do that.
- 4:39So what are the traditions you're going to do tonight?
- 4:42I told you some of mine. What are some of yours?
- 4:45Put them down, figure them out. Sit there and say, you know
- 4:48what? I don't want to feel this
- 4:50massive push. Now, here's the interesting
- 4:52thing. Tomorrow's illegal holiday.
- 4:53So whatever you don't finish tonight in this year, you can
- 4:57put it tomorrow. This is what I had to tell
- 4:59myself. Listen, we're not going back to
- 5:01work until Monday, so we have plenty of time to get things
- 5:04done. So stop the panic, stop the
- 5:06crazy. Doesn't matter if I order seeds
- 5:09on the 31st or I order them in January, it doesn't matter.
- 5:14I'm not planting them yet, so I'm not putting the heat lamps
- 5:17up. Nothing's going up yet, so I
- 5:20don't have to panic. But in my head, I do the panic.
- 5:23In my head, I do the panic. So I'm not allowing that panic
- 5:26to seep out today. I'm keeping it under control and
- 5:29I'm ending this year the way I want to go into the new year,
- 5:33excited and peaceful. So I hope you guys have an
- 5:37amazing new year. Thank you for joining me again
- 5:40for another year, and I look forward to being back here
- 5:43tomorrow with you for a new year and new stuff.
- 5:47All right, I hope you guys have a wonderful, blessed New Year's,
- 5:51and I'll talk to you soon. Bye.
