- 0:17Speaker 1: Focom in a jag zama. I'm kind of honest.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Stephens, Brian sext and John Oder with me today we
- 0:21Speaker 2: go over preseason game number two had its New Orleans
- 0:24Speaker 2: over the weekend and the Jaguars looking much better than
- 0:26Speaker 2: what we saw in the first preseason games. Let's start
- 0:28Speaker 2: out with our big Things, presented to you by g
- 0:30Speaker 2: EH Government Employees Health Association, and it was practiced, not
- 0:35Speaker 2: perfect all this week.
- 0:36Speaker 1: They focused on two different things.
- 0:37Speaker 2: First, they focused on the mental aspects of not making
- 0:40Speaker 2: mistakes alignment issues that they saw in the preseason game
- 0:44Speaker 2: number one, and Trevor talked about the focus on that
- 0:46Speaker 2: in practice this week.
- 0:48Speaker 3: It was good, you know, just really we always harp
- 0:51Speaker 3: on the details, so I wouldn't say it's new in
- 0:53Speaker 3: that way.
- 0:54Speaker 4: You know.
- 0:54Speaker 3: I think this staff and everyone does a really good
- 0:57Speaker 3: job of stress and how important the details are, but
- 0:59Speaker 3: really letting that kind of drive practice. You know, if
- 1:02Speaker 3: anything was if anything was wrong, it was started over,
- 1:06Speaker 3: you know. And usually in practice you have those mistakes
- 1:09Speaker 3: every team, everyone does it and you kind of correct
- 1:11Speaker 3: them after. But you know, one of the days this week,
- 1:13Speaker 3: we really just started everything over when those things happened,
- 1:17Speaker 3: like we were, so we.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Were looking for all that.
- 1:18Speaker 3: The coaches did a good job of slowing it down,
- 1:20Speaker 3: So we slowed some of the tempo down as far
- 1:22Speaker 3: as post snap, but just really focusing on all the
- 1:26Speaker 3: pre snap stuff because you know, keep doing the same
- 1:29Speaker 3: thing and getting it the same results.
- 1:30Speaker 4: So I thought it was a good job by the
- 1:31Speaker 4: staff of you.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Know, changing some stuff up, and I think it helped.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Us this week.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Ran.
- 1:36Speaker 2: We've both been around a bunch of different kinds of
- 1:38Speaker 2: coaches before, but this week, I think it was important
- 1:40Speaker 2: to be one of those coaches where if you're not
- 1:41Speaker 2: doing it right, we're not done with this drill, We're
- 1:43Speaker 2: not done with this exercise. Tons of focus on doing
- 1:46Speaker 2: things the correct way, even if it seems really simple
- 1:49Speaker 2: because of those silly mistakes they saw in the first game.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Was nice.
- 1:51Speaker 2: It was not perfect by any means, but it was
- 1:53Speaker 2: nice to see a lot of that cleaned up in
- 1:54Speaker 2: terms of penalties, excuse me, in terms of penalties in
- 1:57Speaker 2: the second preseason matchup.
- 1:59Speaker 5: You know, Kai, one of the storylines for this training
- 2:02Speaker 5: camp and preseason was that the head coach, Liam Gohen,
- 2:05Speaker 5: was a first time head coach, so we were watching
- 2:08Speaker 5: him as much as we were looking at his offense
- 2:10Speaker 5: or the defense, just to see.
- 2:11Speaker 4: How he does things.
- 2:12Speaker 5: I've been very impressed listening to him and to see
- 2:15Speaker 5: the things that he does. You got me with this one,
- 2:18Speaker 5: but listen, he has impressed me. The story of the
- 2:21Speaker 5: game was assignment and alignment as far as I was concerned,
- 2:25Speaker 5: and Bucky and I during the telecast yesterday just tracked
- 2:28Speaker 5: it from start to finish. And yes there was a mistake.
- 2:31Speaker 5: They had the fumble, but there were no pre snap
- 2:33Speaker 5: mistakes which they had seen against the Steelers John and
- 2:36Speaker 5: they didn't have any other than the fumble. The dbos
- 2:40Speaker 5: don't beat ourselves, and I thought that the week of
- 2:43Speaker 5: practice paid off magnificently.
- 2:45Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Look, I'm using a guy who likes the coach who
- 2:48Speaker 1: during practice play move on, don't go back and repeat,
- 2:53Speaker 1: because he can't go back and repeat during the game.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I think as time moves on with the veteran team,
- 2:58Speaker 1: that's how you approach it. But last week that was
- 3:01Speaker 1: not the way to approach it. And there was a
- 3:03Speaker 1: day that Trevor mentioned where they flat out said we
- 3:06Speaker 1: are not going to allow mistakes.
- 3:07Speaker 6: We're going to get this fixed.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Preseason has changed so much that you don't really know
- 3:14Speaker 1: who's playing for the opponent anymore. I have no idea
- 3:17Speaker 1: what the system is in terms of starters. Saints didn't
- 3:20Speaker 1: play starters. I guess I don't care anymore. I just
- 3:22Speaker 1: care what the Jaguars do. And what the Jaguars did
- 3:26Speaker 1: was fix the glaring thing that had been hurting them.
- 3:29Speaker 1: It had been the theme of camp and if they
- 3:32Speaker 1: get that right, Liam clearly believes, don't make mistakes and
- 3:37Speaker 1: you give yourself a chance. Yesterday they give himself a.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Chance, you know, and Ki just a point.
- 3:41Speaker 5: I think that if the Jaguars start to play well
- 3:43Speaker 5: this year and they don't make mistakes, don't beat themselves.
- 3:47Speaker 5: I think we'll look back at this week of practice,
- 3:48Speaker 5: and normally, don't you know, we don't remember practice during
- 3:51Speaker 5: training camp. We don't talk about it after we get
- 3:53Speaker 5: into the regular season. But we might be turning around
- 3:55Speaker 5: and looking at that week and the way that Liam
- 3:56Speaker 5: approached it.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Yeah, certainly at the time of year to be working
- 3:59Speaker 2: on that sort of thing. Second big thing today, it's
- 4:01Speaker 2: gonna be get physical because the other focus of practice
- 4:04Speaker 2: last week was physicality. They went up against a tough
- 4:06Speaker 2: Steelers team, didn't see all that they wanted to see.
- 4:08Speaker 2: But coach Cohen felt good about this week of practice
- 4:10Speaker 2: and what he saw in New Orleans.
- 4:13Speaker 7: Had a very physical week of practice, and then they
- 4:17Speaker 7: came out and played physically, you know, and they also
- 4:20Speaker 7: played smarter in a lot of ways. So I definitely
- 4:23Speaker 7: believe that this team responded in the right way, from
- 4:27Speaker 7: being challenged post Steelers game to coming out having one
- 4:31Speaker 7: of our better practices at training camp this week, then
- 4:34Speaker 7: having a little bit of a uglier scrimmage, and then
- 4:38Speaker 7: you come.
- 4:38Speaker 6: Out and you start fast and the ones in twos.
- 4:41Speaker 7: I feel like, for the most part, really competed at
- 4:44Speaker 7: a higher level than maybe we had and there was
- 4:48Speaker 7: no question that they were.
- 4:49Speaker 6: Trying to play physical.
- 4:51Speaker 2: John when Liam Crohen came in, he said physicality was
- 4:54Speaker 2: what he wanted to be part of this team's identity.
- 4:56Speaker 2: That was another focus in practice this week. Did you
- 4:58Speaker 2: feel like it translated yesterday?
- 5:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 1: As I said, it's gotten so hard. It's always been
- 5:04Speaker 1: hard to analyze preseason. Now it's even harder because you
- 5:07Speaker 1: don't know what you're looking at in terms of was
- 5:10Speaker 1: this offensive line playing against their ones this So you
- 5:14Speaker 1: get to the point where you look for glimpses, and
- 5:16Speaker 1: you look for things that you think the coach is
- 5:19Speaker 1: looking for, and I thought there were on the first
- 5:23Speaker 1: two series, which is ones that mattered to me. There
- 5:26Speaker 1: were times, especially on the second one, where they dominated
- 5:29Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage where they showed what they want
- 5:31Speaker 1: to be. Now they're going to be able to do
- 5:33Speaker 1: that against a team starters. I don't know, but you
- 5:36Speaker 1: wanted to come out of this preseason with an idea
- 5:38Speaker 1: of how this team wanted to be third and three
- 5:41Speaker 1: on the touchdown drive, they ran Travis Etn for six yards.
- 5:47Speaker 1: That is a sign of what Liam Cohen wants this
- 5:50Speaker 1: offense to be. He wants it to be able to
- 5:52Speaker 1: run when it wants and needs to run. And there
- 5:54Speaker 1: are moments of that the other day or on Sunday,
- 5:57Speaker 1: and I thought, maybe that's my biggest takeaway from me game.
- 6:00Speaker 5: You know, you can't convince the other team that you
- 6:04Speaker 5: are a physical team until you convince your own team.
- 6:07Speaker 5: And so going into the second quarter and into the third,
- 6:11Speaker 5: they kept with the run. Both of Baseial Tuton's touchdowns
- 6:15Speaker 5: in this preseason were a result of physical effort inside
- 6:20Speaker 5: the twenty yard line, which I love to see lots
- 6:23Speaker 5: of coaches. Every coach says we want to be physical.
- 6:26Speaker 5: Of course, football is a physical game, but not every
- 6:29Speaker 5: coach will stick with it, like Liam Cohen is showing
- 6:32Speaker 5: us that he will do, and so he's instituting that
- 6:35Speaker 5: in the culture of his team. They expect to play
- 6:37Speaker 5: the run, they expect to be physical, and oh listen,
- 6:40Speaker 5: that's what Liam Cohen did in Tampa that brought him
- 6:43Speaker 5: here to be the head coach. He resurrected the running game,
- 6:45Speaker 5: it fixed the quarterback and the Buccaneers went into the
- 6:47Speaker 5: playoffs last year. That's what the Jaguars want and need
- 6:50Speaker 5: him to do here.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Yeah. I thought both of Tatan's touchdowns this preseason where
- 6:54Speaker 1: sort of tone setting. The one last week where they
- 6:56Speaker 1: sort of pushed him into the end zone. And yesterday
- 7:00Speaker 1: they get to the nine yard line with the past
- 7:02Speaker 1: tun or log and then three three yard runs by
- 7:05Speaker 1: Twoton and they basically decided we're going to run the
- 7:06Speaker 1: ball into the end zone. So, again, it's preseason, but
- 7:10Speaker 1: that's what they want to be.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Our final big thing today is going to be about
- 7:13Speaker 2: the O line.
- 7:14Speaker 1: The O line shuffle.
- 7:14Speaker 2: We've seen a ton of movement along the offensive line,
- 7:17Speaker 2: so far, and then yesterday some late scratches Anton Harrison
- 7:20Speaker 2: and Chumatydoga didn't go. So we saw players playing in
- 7:23Speaker 2: multiple positions. To see that in the preseason, but they're
- 7:26Speaker 2: trying to get the handle of it. It can make
- 7:27Speaker 2: it more difficult. Patrick McCay one of those players who
- 7:30Speaker 2: played a couple positions yesterday, But he feels like they're
- 7:32Speaker 2: getting there.
- 7:34Speaker 6: I think understanding what's expected of us and like really diving.
- 7:37Speaker 1: In on that playbook and keeping us all accountable on that.
- 7:41Speaker 5: The more we do that, the more.
- 7:42Speaker 6: We grow, the more cold ten we.
- 7:44Speaker 5: Have behind what we're doing.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Don't think we're wrong going to get better number we do, Brian.
- 7:49Speaker 2: We should also mention reports of a trade that Luke
- 7:51Speaker 2: Forwartner is going to be leaving. The former center didn't
- 7:54Speaker 2: play last season, was potentially fighting for that backup role,
- 7:58Speaker 2: but he's going to be heading to New Orleans. Colin
- 8:00Speaker 2: Saunders defensive tackle could be coming here, so addition to
- 8:04Speaker 2: the defensive line, subtraction from the offensive line, but they're
- 8:07Speaker 2: clearly addressing that issue. We can talk a little bit
- 8:09Speaker 2: more about the defensive tackle later, but the O line
- 8:11Speaker 2: still seems like they're in the mix of trying to
- 8:13Speaker 2: figure out exactly who the five are going to be.
- 8:15Speaker 5: You know, Kay, we talked in the spring about all
- 8:17Speaker 5: the pieces that they brought in to fortify the offensive line.
- 8:19Speaker 5: Whether it was mccaary that you're talking about Ridoga, whether
- 8:22Speaker 5: it was the draft pick of White Milam or Trevor
- 8:25Speaker 5: Monheim by the way, who is the young center from
- 8:28Speaker 5: usc that they like a lot. Who made Luke Forsner
- 8:32Speaker 5: a guy that they could trade if that's what they're doing.
- 8:34Speaker 5: So they brought the pieces in, and John I the
- 8:38Speaker 5: offensive line was a major question mark through two games. Boy,
- 8:42Speaker 5: it looks like they have answers to the questions. And
- 8:44Speaker 5: last week on the practice field, five different guys got
- 8:46Speaker 5: reps at left tackle. Yesterday McCary had to step out
- 8:49Speaker 5: and play right tackle. Fred Johnson went over and played
- 8:52Speaker 5: right tackle to start the game in place of Harrison.
- 8:54Speaker 4: They've got a lot of questions.
- 8:56Speaker 5: But it seems like they've got a lot of answers
- 8:59Speaker 5: and a lot of peace is to be able to
- 9:00Speaker 5: find new answers should new questions arise.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they're still and they're still looking at
- 9:06Speaker 1: the left tackle position. But I thought yesterday was significant.
- 9:08Speaker 1: You had Adoga out, you had Anton Harrison out, cole
- 9:12Speaker 1: Van Lammon's still out. I think those are three of
- 9:14Speaker 1: their top nine when they start the season. So it
- 9:18Speaker 1: feels like they're living up to what they said this
- 9:21Speaker 1: preseason was going to be, which is not stopping looking
- 9:24Speaker 1: for answers until they find them. And there were very
- 9:27Speaker 1: few preconceived notions about this offensive line.
- 9:29Speaker 6: So so far, so good.
- 9:32Speaker 1: We'll see week one, all right, stay with the sera
- 9:34Speaker 1: on jag Zam.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Coming up, we'll look at some of the highlights from
- 9:36Speaker 2: yesterday's preseason game against the Saints.
- 9:50Speaker 7: This game was another step in the right direction where
- 9:53Speaker 7: you saw him clicking through progressions again and getting to
- 9:57Speaker 7: his you know, third and fourth reads a few times.
- 10:00Speaker 7: I thought we protected them really well up front, which
- 10:02Speaker 7: allows a quarterback.
- 10:04Speaker 6: To do those things. And also when you run.
- 10:06Speaker 7: The ball effectively, it also takes some pressure off the quarterback.
- 10:10Speaker 7: So I was pleased with his outing tonight. Obviously, the
- 10:14Speaker 7: one fumbles a tough one.
- 10:16Speaker 6: Because you just got to eat that.
- 10:17Speaker 7: It's a great learning moment for him, especially in the
- 10:19Speaker 7: red area where you already have points. So when you
- 10:22Speaker 7: have two turnovers in the red zone when you already
- 10:25Speaker 7: have points. Those are tough ones when you end up
- 10:28Speaker 7: tying a game.
- 10:30Speaker 2: I took and Cohen kind of looking back on what
- 10:32Speaker 2: you saw from Tarbor Lawrence on the offense, we got
- 10:34Speaker 2: to see the starters, the starters that were available. There
- 10:36Speaker 2: were some last minute scratches. It seems john to me.
- 10:39Speaker 2: It seems kind of like if anybody is even sort
- 10:41Speaker 2: of a question mark working on anything, that kind of
- 10:43Speaker 2: just aired on the side of not playing. Obviously, we
- 10:45Speaker 2: saw Travis Hunter, Deanmi Brown, extra, some other additions to
- 10:49Speaker 2: the did not dress list. I mean we hadn't known
- 10:52Speaker 2: earlier in the week.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and again it goes back to how much different
- 10:57Speaker 1: and how standard this approach is. During pre season, I
- 11:00Speaker 1: said at the top to Saint thing playing very many starters. Well,
- 11:03Speaker 1: by the time you got down too, the Jaguars were
- 11:05Speaker 1: without about eleven or twelve guys, and I think eleven
- 11:09Speaker 1: of them I counted are gonna matter a lot this season.
- 11:11Speaker 1: So yeah, you air on the side if a guy
- 11:15Speaker 1: is even remotely not you know, not ready banged up,
- 11:20Speaker 1: you don't play him, and I don't. I don't expect
- 11:23Speaker 1: to see very much on Saturday either.
- 11:25Speaker 5: I wouldn't think so obviously with the practice against the
- 11:27Speaker 5: Dolphins this week, which is where they.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Want to get to.
- 11:31Speaker 5: The reps on the practice field are controlled and more
- 11:35Speaker 5: meaningful to the coaching staffs of both teams this week
- 11:38Speaker 5: than the time on the field on Saturday night.
- 11:40Speaker 2: We did see the starters for two drives on offense,
- 11:42Speaker 2: So let's take a look at the tape. Trevor Lawrence
- 11:44Speaker 2: and the offense kind of going the length of the field.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Obviously we'll get to that.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Funnel which we didn't love so much, but kind of
- 11:51Speaker 2: opening things up, getting first downs.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Things you like to see there.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Tank Spigsby had a catch and kind of a run
- 11:57Speaker 2: off to the side, which was nice to see him
- 11:59Speaker 2: kind of break a few tackles there, get out into
- 12:01Speaker 2: open space and put the jets on a little bit.
- 12:04Speaker 2: And again, it's nice to see all these running backs
- 12:06Speaker 2: making moves.
- 12:07Speaker 5: Well, he was doing that last year if you remember
- 12:09Speaker 5: the game against the Colts, the game against Detections. We
- 12:11Speaker 5: saw glimpses of that, and then we saw glimpses of
- 12:14Speaker 5: this in the game in Philadelphia. Whichever made that throw
- 12:17Speaker 5: was intercepted. He's got to live to fight another play, right,
- 12:20Speaker 5: I'm gonna praise him by the way in the hot takes,
- 12:23Speaker 5: but that's one of those things.
- 12:24Speaker 4: Learned to live to fight another play.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I got the feeling on that plane that you know,
- 12:29Speaker 1: he's not trying to defend it to make that play, but
- 12:33Speaker 1: it felt so good offensively, and they wanted to get
- 12:37Speaker 1: that touchdown that they wanted to keep that going, and
- 12:41Speaker 1: it didn't have much time on the field.
- 12:44Speaker 6: They knew they were going.
- 12:44Speaker 1: To play two series, so he almost got the idea
- 12:47Speaker 1: that I just really wanted this play to work, didn't
- 12:50Speaker 1: want to leave it on the field without but get I.
- 12:53Speaker 5: Gonna say, don't you agree that that's the step that's
- 12:54Speaker 5: the next step for him is.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Yep, to not think you got to be the hero and.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Everything, and especially on first and ten, got couple more
- 13:02Speaker 2: opportunities defense. In Week one of preseason, we saw kind
- 13:07Speaker 2: of that. I don't know if it's a communication issue.
- 13:10Speaker 2: The defense didn't look great out of the start, but
- 13:12Speaker 2: we saw much better communication this week, and of course
- 13:15Speaker 2: the defense felt like they were all on the same page,
- 13:16Speaker 2: which is to me one of the most important things
- 13:18Speaker 2: because of all the communication issues they had last season.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Do me I think at credit for a sack here,
- 13:23Speaker 2: although it looks like Shuck might have just fallen down
- 13:25Speaker 2: a little bit. But also Treyvon Walker getting into the
- 13:29Speaker 2: backfield as well. It was nice to see this defense.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Whether or not they're going up against starters, it was
- 13:34Speaker 2: nice to see them actually getting some quality reps, right,
- 13:37Speaker 2: I mean, Chuck, Whether the New Orleans Saints are good
- 13:40Speaker 2: or office year, that's probably gonna be their starting quarterback
- 13:42Speaker 2: at some point, and so to get in the backfield
- 13:44Speaker 2: kind of pressure the quarterback, it's.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Always good to see.
- 13:46Speaker 5: Yeah, and listen, there were a couple of their starting
- 13:48Speaker 5: offensive linemen in there, and so for the Jaguars to
- 13:51Speaker 5: get some pressure up the middle was good. Right here,
- 13:53Speaker 5: you see there's Trayvon Walker doing what we expect Treyvon
- 13:55Speaker 5: Walker to do all season long.
- 13:57Speaker 4: And talking to Anthony Campaneely and.
- 13:59Speaker 5: Josh and our partner and Josh Hantz Allen about Trayvon
- 14:02Speaker 5: they expect to see a lot of that kind of
- 14:04Speaker 5: play from him this year.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yeah, Dooey gets the sack because he was there, and
- 14:09Speaker 1: I think he would have sacked in kind of like Booth.
- 14:12Speaker 1: But yeah, Trayvon, he shows up and he's going to
- 14:16Speaker 1: have a lot of sacks, and if he doesn't have
- 14:18Speaker 1: a lot of sacks, you get a lot of plays
- 14:19Speaker 1: like that, a lot of pressures where he matters on
- 14:22Speaker 1: the play. So absolutely, you don't say preseason things are musts,
- 14:28Speaker 1: but boy, it had to feel good for the defensive
- 14:31Speaker 1: players to have a couple of series where they got
- 14:33Speaker 1: him on off the field fast, where they felt like
- 14:36Speaker 1: they'd played like they wanted to play.
- 14:38Speaker 4: That felt important show some progress from the week before.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Absolutely, let's take a look at that second offensive possession,
- 14:44Speaker 2: because I think when we talk about Trevor making maybe
- 14:47Speaker 2: a silly mistake right with the fumble, trying to make
- 14:49Speaker 2: something out of nothing there, it's important to bounce back
- 14:51Speaker 2: because so much of last season I felt like when
- 14:54Speaker 2: something went wrong, you were just waiting for the other
- 14:55Speaker 2: shoe to drop and you let it turn into a
- 14:57Speaker 2: snowball effect. And it was important, at least for me
- 15:00Speaker 2: to see Trevor kind of let that go and immediately
- 15:02Speaker 2: kind of go into this next drive, which was nice.
- 15:04Speaker 2: And also seeing contributions all around. We talked about tang
- 15:08Speaker 2: Bigsby on that first drive, etn here up the middle,
- 15:11Speaker 2: and seeing all the running backs contribute, and then obviously
- 15:14Speaker 2: Parker Washington gets the touchdown later on in this drive,
- 15:17Speaker 2: and Parker's looking great in camp and translating into the game.
- 15:20Speaker 2: And because the Ammi Brown and Travis Hunter relate scratches
- 15:23Speaker 2: in this one, Parker probably got a little more run
- 15:26Speaker 2: time than he would have normally.
- 15:27Speaker 6: Yeah, I was talking about Parker in a bit.
- 15:29Speaker 1: But the running backs, this is what they want. This
- 15:33Speaker 1: is what they want the offense to be. I mean,
- 15:35Speaker 1: they want to be able to use Etn and Bigsby.
- 15:38Speaker 1: They think they can both be productive. McQuinn Allen had
- 15:41Speaker 1: a nice run. I think it was in a second
- 15:44Speaker 1: they've been the second quarter. They want to be an
- 15:48Speaker 1: offense that utilizes these backs in different ways.
- 15:51Speaker 6: And I thought the run, the two runs.
- 15:53Speaker 1: By Etn at fifteen yard that you're seeing, then the
- 15:56Speaker 1: six yard or later on that drive, I think if
- 16:01Speaker 1: you pulled lam Con aside and said how are the
- 16:04Speaker 1: most important plays in the game, those two would rank
- 16:06Speaker 1: up there. Because he wants to be able to run
- 16:10Speaker 1: and have drives where the run is the engine than
- 16:15Speaker 1: the past. And I thought on that drive the run
- 16:17Speaker 1: was the engine.
- 16:17Speaker 5: If you were to ask me who is has been
- 16:20Speaker 5: the best player on the field during training camp consistently.
- 16:23Speaker 4: I would tell you Travis ETM.
- 16:25Speaker 5: And I wouldn't have told you at the end of
- 16:26Speaker 5: last year, I didn't want to see him run between
- 16:28Speaker 5: the tackles again. But he came into OTAs and to
- 16:31Speaker 5: the mini camp motivated. He's on a one year deal
- 16:35Speaker 5: and I think he has been sensational and that run now,
- 16:38Speaker 5: it helps when your offensive line is moving people and
- 16:41Speaker 5: he's able to use his speed and explosiveness, but his
- 16:44Speaker 5: willingness to put his nose in there and punch it in.
- 16:46Speaker 5: I think he's had a sensational camp. It was two
- 16:49Speaker 5: years ago that he was a fourteen hundred yard guy
- 16:52Speaker 5: and eleven touchdowns on the ground. I think he can
- 16:54Speaker 5: be a major threat when you consider all the other
- 16:57Speaker 5: weapons that Liam Cohen and Grant Yudinsky have. I think
- 17:00Speaker 5: Travis ETN has a chance to have a huge years.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Round this out and talk about another running back because
- 17:05Speaker 2: facial touton has impressed me. I'll talk a little bit
- 17:08Speaker 2: specifical about him in the hot takes, but on this
- 17:10Speaker 2: one when it's first and goal and you just give
- 17:12Speaker 2: it to him three times in a row because you
- 17:14Speaker 2: know he's gonna get in there at some point. I
- 17:15Speaker 2: think it was three hours, three hours and three yards.
- 17:18Speaker 2: But just that's what you want. You want him to
- 17:19Speaker 2: go up the middle, keep his legs moving, get whatever
- 17:22Speaker 2: it might be. And we've talked so long John about
- 17:25Speaker 2: being good running team when they know you're gonna run
- 17:27Speaker 2: it right, Like, that's important thing. Whether or not it's preseason.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Not trying to make too much of it, but having
- 17:31Speaker 2: a back where you feel like you can rush with him,
- 17:34Speaker 2: that's that's what this team needs.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and we didn't see a lot of that kind
- 17:40Speaker 1: of series, that kind of finish where the back is
- 17:45Speaker 1: just sort of rolling into the end zone.
- 17:47Speaker 6: We saw in.
- 17:47Speaker 1: The last couple of years a lot of that back
- 17:50Speaker 1: like getting stuff.
- 17:51Speaker 6: Laying on his back on the on the two yard lineup. Look.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I know fans watching this, it's preseasons, preseasons, preseason, I
- 17:59Speaker 1: get it. But that's how they want it to look.
- 18:03Speaker 1: That's what you want to see during the preseason. It
- 18:06Speaker 1: was a great sign. And to see it four or
- 18:09Speaker 1: five different times out of the preseason already. We'll see,
- 18:13Speaker 1: we'll see if it translates to the regular season. But
- 18:16Speaker 1: the money is where the mouth is in terms of
- 18:18Speaker 1: they set it all off season.
- 18:20Speaker 6: And they're showing what they want to be. So I'm
- 18:23Speaker 6: optimistic and we'll see.
- 18:25Speaker 5: We talk about this kid draft weekend was his speed
- 18:28Speaker 5: and explosiveness, and certainly that's there.
- 18:30Speaker 4: But what I've been impressed with him is his patients.
- 18:32Speaker 5: I mean, you can see him letting blocks set up,
- 18:35Speaker 5: and not a lot of rookie running backs have that
- 18:37Speaker 5: kind of patience. And when you watch him run, it's
- 18:39Speaker 5: clear he is looking for where the hole is and
- 18:43Speaker 5: not just punching it up in there. I think he's
- 18:45Speaker 5: got the mental acuity for this game beyond just the physical.
- 18:49Speaker 4: I think he's going to be a major factor this
- 18:50Speaker 4: year too.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Good stuff. I'm working.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Let's do the final play of the game. Obviously, play
- 18:54Speaker 2: the game to win. It's preseason. We don't really we
- 18:56Speaker 2: got to tie and they don't play over time in preseason.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I think we all wanted another long cam little kick,
- 19:03Speaker 2: but kind of going across the middle. There was it
- 19:05Speaker 2: nine seconds or left and then the interception. Make it
- 19:09Speaker 2: something mad and nothing. It's pre season, doesn't matter.
- 19:11Speaker 4: Brian, no listen.
- 19:12Speaker 5: I talked to a coach who would have been involved
- 19:14Speaker 5: in the conversations around the decision. After the game, and
- 19:19Speaker 5: his point was, sixty yard field goals are not givens.
- 19:22Speaker 5: So they practiced the situational mastery that they were looking for.
- 19:27Speaker 5: They got a terrible throw right, a bad play, the
- 19:30Speaker 5: ball gets intercepted.
- 19:31Speaker 4: Two things.
- 19:31Speaker 5: You couldn't have a saccerin interception, and they got the
- 19:33Speaker 5: interception there. So the execution was horrible. But what they
- 19:36Speaker 5: were looking for is because you're not always going to
- 19:38Speaker 5: be indoors, right, let's see what it would take to
- 19:41Speaker 5: get a couple more yards and increase the odds of success.
- 19:45Speaker 4: And it didn't work.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Yeah, you made a good point here to stay Brian
- 19:47Speaker 1: and everybody thanks. Because Cam had a seventy yard he
- 19:49Speaker 1: is gonna hit all the sixties. Pa, got to your
- 19:51Speaker 1: local high school field, stand on the fifty and look at.
- 19:54Speaker 4: The goalposts twenty four feet, see.
- 19:56Speaker 1: If it's close.
- 19:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:57Speaker 6: So I didn't have a problem with it.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Liked Liams approach afterward where he said, hey, crazy stuff
- 20:04Speaker 1: happens the preseason, and I do think they would make
- 20:07Speaker 1: the same decision during the regular season. By the way,
- 20:09Speaker 1: with the starters in your chance is getting intercepted, they
- 20:12Speaker 1: are low, and I do think the five or six
- 20:14Speaker 1: yards matter in that situation no problem.
- 20:17Speaker 5: In the history of the NFL, Tom Dempsey kicked the
- 20:19Speaker 5: first sixty yard field goal for the Saints at tu
- 20:22Speaker 5: Lane Stadium in nineteen seventy, but since then they've only
- 20:24Speaker 5: been thirty eight field goals thirty eight in fifty five
- 20:27Speaker 5: years of longer than sixty yards. It's just the coach
- 20:30Speaker 5: looked me in the eye as he goes, Come on, Brian,
- 20:31Speaker 5: he's not superman.
- 20:32Speaker 4: It is not an easy thing to do.
- 20:34Speaker 5: The goalposts are only twenty four feet wide and you're
- 20:37Speaker 5: sixty yards away. We're going to with a timeout try
- 20:40Speaker 5: to get a couple more yards or maybe position the
- 20:43Speaker 5: ball a little bit more in the center of the
- 20:45Speaker 5: field for the kicker. That's just good strategy. So it
- 20:48Speaker 5: was situational and we'll see how they play it. But
- 20:51Speaker 5: did not we hear from the coach that they were
- 20:53Speaker 5: looking for situations in these preseason games and.
- 20:56Speaker 4: That what that was.
- 20:57Speaker 1: And they got themselves won for sure.
- 20:58Speaker 2: All right, say was we got hot coming up for
- 21:00Speaker 2: you after the break here on jagsam Dam brought to
- 21:10Speaker 2: you by Firehouse Subs Today specifically, are hot takes brought
- 21:13Speaker 2: to you by fire House Subs.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I played with Parker now for a
- 21:18Speaker 3: few years and he's, you know, just the way the
- 21:22Speaker 3: room is kind of shaken out the last couple of years.
- 21:24Speaker 3: He's always been in that position, but he just keeps
- 21:27Speaker 3: making plays. So I don't you know, I don't want
- 21:30Speaker 3: to put numbers on any on anybody or what they
- 21:32Speaker 3: are or aren't, but he keeps making plays and keeps
- 21:35Speaker 3: showing up, and it's gonna it's gonna be tough to
- 21:37Speaker 3: keep that guy off the field of the way he's playing,
- 21:39Speaker 3: and I've just been impressed by the way it works.
- 21:41Speaker 3: You know, this guy is always in great shape, can
- 21:43Speaker 3: play all the different positions. I think that's really what
- 21:45Speaker 3: you're seeing has helped him so much as he can
- 21:47Speaker 3: move around.
- 21:49Speaker 2: It can Parker Washington praise from Trevor Lawrence and we
- 21:52Speaker 2: all have a hot take after preseason game number two. John'
- 21:55Speaker 2: wan to let you go first, because I think you'd
- 21:56Speaker 2: agree with Trevor Stick and Parker Washington.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Yeah, And look, I've always liked Parker as a person.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Talking to him, I did not think that he would
- 22:05Speaker 1: force his way into the receiving rotation this year with
- 22:08Speaker 1: Dimmy Brown, Travis Hunter and uh Brian Thomas Junior, but
- 22:14Speaker 1: I think they're gonna find a way to play him. Yeah,
- 22:15Speaker 1: and I think Liam I think mentioned if, but Trevor
- 22:19Speaker 1: certainly did.
- 22:21Speaker 6: You look at.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Him and think that he's a slot guy, but he can.
- 22:25Speaker 6: Play all three different positions.
- 22:26Speaker 1: So he's gonna be absolutely valuable because he knows how
- 22:29Speaker 1: to play them all. If one of these guys gets hurt,
- 22:31Speaker 1: or if Travis Hunter is in a phase where he's
- 22:34Speaker 1: not playing much, that they have an option. But I
- 22:37Speaker 1: don't know how they're gonna do it. I haven't talked
- 22:39Speaker 1: enough people to know sort of what's gonna look like.
- 22:41Speaker 1: But my understanding is that they're sort of dealing with
- 22:44Speaker 1: and saying, we got to find a way to get
- 22:46Speaker 1: this guy in the field. He makes too many plays.
- 22:50Speaker 4: It was last time we had that problem around here.
- 22:51Speaker 1: I think you said in the last segment that Travis
- 22:53Speaker 1: c Tm was this player in camp.
- 22:55Speaker 4: You think he Parker might be. I mean, he's close, right,
- 22:58Speaker 4: And who thought that was gonna.
- 22:59Speaker 5: Be the when training camp began draft and develop, which
- 23:02Speaker 5: they haven't done enough of around here. But it looks
- 23:05Speaker 5: like there's a couple of young players in Parker. Washington's
- 23:07Speaker 5: one of them.
- 23:08Speaker 2: I've just been impressed with what he's been able to
- 23:11Speaker 2: do the last couple of seasons as well. I think
- 23:12Speaker 2: you got to give him credit for being thrust into
- 23:16Speaker 2: positions where you know, maybe he wasn't ready or he
- 23:18Speaker 2: didn't know where he's going to be. When you talk
- 23:20Speaker 2: about I think Brent Strange did some of that too
- 23:22Speaker 2: last year. When you're dealing with the injuries, it's you
- 23:24Speaker 2: take the playing time wherever you get it, and Parker
- 23:26Speaker 2: Washington has taken that and run with it, certainly so
- 23:28Speaker 2: far with what was seen so far and training.
- 23:29Speaker 4: He has a great attitude too.
- 23:30Speaker 5: If you ever listened to him or talked to him,
- 23:33Speaker 5: he is a guy who understood that the odds were
- 23:35Speaker 5: against him and he never let that become an issue
- 23:38Speaker 5: and became a great special teams performer.
- 23:40Speaker 4: I'd just love to talk to him too.
- 23:42Speaker 2: All right, Brian, what's your hot take for us?
- 23:44Speaker 4: I don't know that I've seen Trevor play that effectively.
- 23:48Speaker 5: He was as good during those two drive not We
- 23:50Speaker 5: already mentioned the fumble, and that was a bad decision,
- 23:53Speaker 5: but there were two throws three in particular John that
- 23:56Speaker 5: had me excited about him. The third and eight to
- 23:59Speaker 5: Brenton Strange where he climbed the pocket and you thought, well,
- 24:02Speaker 5: he's gonna put it down and run.
- 24:03Speaker 4: And he didn't.
- 24:04Speaker 5: You know, he buzzed his feet and then just threaded
- 24:06Speaker 5: the ball to Brenton's Strange. I thought that was an
- 24:08Speaker 5: example of him understanding the offense.
- 24:11Speaker 4: It was a beautiful throw.
- 24:12Speaker 5: Later third and two, another ten yard throw on the run,
- 24:15Speaker 5: moving the ball right through traffic into Brenton Strange. And
- 24:19Speaker 5: then I hate that turn his back and roll out.
- 24:22Speaker 5: He got hurt against the Colts last year with that one.
- 24:24Speaker 5: I just I don't like that play. But it was
- 24:27Speaker 5: tighter yesterday. And then he stopped and waited for Brian
- 24:31Speaker 5: Thomas for half a step. I just was really impressed
- 24:34Speaker 5: with his poise, his patients in the pocket, the way
- 24:38Speaker 5: that he went through the reads. Call it discipline. I
- 24:41Speaker 5: just I left the broadcast booth yesterday thinking he's ready
- 24:45Speaker 5: to take a big step forward.
- 24:47Speaker 4: How long it takes him, yeah, to actually make it.
- 24:50Speaker 4: He's ready.
- 24:50Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm encouraged.
- 24:53Speaker 1: It seems like I keep using the phrase I'm not
- 24:55Speaker 1: sure it's right that he's getting his feet under him.
- 24:58Speaker 6: In this offense. And I don't think he's trying to
- 25:00Speaker 6: be spectacular.
- 25:01Speaker 1: I think he is still going through the learning phase
- 25:03Speaker 1: of this offense, making sure that he knows the footwork proper,
- 25:08Speaker 1: making sure that he knows what they're asking of him,
- 25:11Speaker 1: and it seems like he's sort of taking the approach
- 25:13Speaker 1: I'm going to get to six or seven, meaning I'm
- 25:16Speaker 1: going to learn how to run it. I'm going to
- 25:19Speaker 1: drive the speed limit, if you will, and then at
- 25:21Speaker 1: some point he's going to take the restrictor plate off
- 25:26Speaker 1: because he can and go. So I like the fact
- 25:30Speaker 1: that so far he seems very in control, very poised
- 25:33Speaker 1: in it, because you know, if he gets that that
- 25:36Speaker 1: the spectacular is in him. So I'm encouraged as well.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Fingers crossed. I'd like to see the progression, and I
- 25:42Speaker 2: hope this continues into the regular season. I'm going positive
- 25:45Speaker 2: for my hot take as well. It's almost toot in time,
- 25:48Speaker 2: I think too. At the beginning of training camp, I
- 25:52Speaker 2: felt like it's a crowded running back room, and I
- 25:54Speaker 2: felt like everyone had their strengths. But slowly I'm getting
- 25:57Speaker 2: to the point where I feel like Tuton can do
- 25:59Speaker 2: almost all of those things as well, if not better
- 26:01Speaker 2: than some of his competitors. So for me, my hot
- 26:04Speaker 2: take is going to be I think Touton will be
- 26:06Speaker 2: getting the bulk of the carries before the bye week
- 26:09Speaker 2: because for me, talked about a speed right out of college.
- 26:11Speaker 2: We already knew that, right Brian, you talked about his
- 26:13Speaker 2: patients out there, his vision, his tenacity, keeping his legs
- 26:18Speaker 2: moving and then working with what's being given to him,
- 26:20Speaker 2: right because you want to wait for the whole to
- 26:22Speaker 2: lot to open up. He can make a burst, not
- 26:25Speaker 2: trying to run around the tackles. You got to wait
- 26:27Speaker 2: for things to play out. He's showing he can do that.
- 26:29Speaker 2: And his dependability thus far has been impressive to me
- 26:32Speaker 2: because you know what you're getting every time.
- 26:33Speaker 1: He gets the ball.
- 26:34Speaker 2: So I think sooner than later he might be the
- 26:36Speaker 2: lead back.
- 26:37Speaker 4: You're on the Tuton train, I'm on the Touton train.
- 26:39Speaker 4: Here are the two too.
- 26:41Speaker 6: I think there's a possibility of that.
- 26:43Speaker 1: I also think that they're in an unreal situation because
- 26:47Speaker 1: I think Travis me atm may have something to say
- 26:50Speaker 1: about it, which is.
- 26:50Speaker 4: What you want.
- 26:51Speaker 6: So but that's not out of the wrong possibility.
- 26:56Speaker 2: We'll have to see how things play out.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Stay with us. We'll tell you what's coming up the
- 26:58Speaker 1: rest of.
- 26:58Speaker 2: The week, including joint practic in Miami later Jack Fan,
- 27:02Speaker 2: if you want to customize Jaguars furniture for your home,
- 27:04Speaker 2: check out zip chaer dot com without all the customizable options.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Zip Chair is furniture for fans.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I mean, it was amazing, Uh, I had first off
- 27:13Speaker 1: we'd be able to make his last treatment day.
- 27:16Speaker 4: Was was awesome to be there.
- 27:17Speaker 6: Nurses were school kind.
- 27:19Speaker 4: And so helpful throughout the whole journey. Uh, they made
- 27:22Speaker 4: they made his you know, his journey a lot of easier,
- 27:26Speaker 4: and they made it especially for that day. Man, I'm
- 27:28Speaker 4: so happy. He glad that, uh he's done.
- 27:30Speaker 2: With treatment and you know, we could continue to progress
- 27:35Speaker 2: as I was a seven year old boy. I wanna
- 27:38Speaker 2: take a moment to celebrate Josh heinz Allen and his
- 27:41Speaker 2: family's special moment. His seven year old son Wesley, diagnosed
- 27:44Speaker 2: with leukemia back in January, has done six months of treatment,
- 27:48Speaker 2: but his final chemotherapy appointment was last week and got
- 27:51Speaker 2: to ring the bell and such a wonderful family, So
- 27:54Speaker 2: Josh and his wife Caitlin and Wesley. Of course, so
- 27:56Speaker 2: you guys may know because he walked out with him
- 27:58Speaker 2: when he was drafted. That was Wessie's seen years old
- 28:00Speaker 2: now and I'm very fortunate if he done with treatment.
- 28:02Speaker 5: It's really different because Josh lives in Jacksonville. I mean,
- 28:06Speaker 5: his family is here. He's a part of the community.
- 28:08Speaker 4: He's always out and about doing things.
- 28:10Speaker 5: And so they're not strangers, and I know there's a
- 28:12Speaker 5: lot of people that are praying for him.
- 28:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Good sincere guy, and uh, I'm glad that's going well.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Behind them, Absolutely, talk football real quick. We're headed to Miami.
- 28:22Speaker 2: We're gonna have practice here tomorrow and Wednesday, but then
- 28:25Speaker 2: the team goes down there joint practice with the Dolphins.
- 28:28Speaker 1: There's always something.
- 28:28Speaker 2: To get out of joint practice, and it's nice to
- 28:30Speaker 2: go up against a team that's not your own.
- 28:32Speaker 4: Can't wait to see it.
- 28:32Speaker 5: I mean, that's a team that in two of the
- 28:35Speaker 5: last three years has been a playoff team, you know,
- 28:37Speaker 5: ten win teams. So they obviously have a lot of
- 28:39Speaker 5: talent and a lot of speed, and the jagguars will
- 28:42Speaker 5: be better for having practice against him.
- 28:43Speaker 6: Yeah, I get the idea.
- 28:45Speaker 1: This will be the one joint practice.
- 28:47Speaker 4: I get the idea.
- 28:48Speaker 6: I get the idea listening to Liam Cohen. This will
- 28:50Speaker 6: be the last time that we have that few for
- 28:53Speaker 6: a while.
- 28:53Speaker 1: He likes this for me.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Will also be live jag Exam on Thursday from practice
- 28:59Speaker 2: Johnny and your son hat.
- 29:01Speaker 6: Yeah, so we'll bring my sun.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Okay, we love that.
- 29:03Speaker 2: I'm fared up, absolutely alright. We will be back and
- 29:06Speaker 2: stay here on jagsam on Wednesday. Maybe you see that
