- 3:03Oh, and by the way, Mama T's, congratulations
- 3:05on your grand opening.
- 3:07I know you guys just had it.
- 3:09I believe it was this Saturday, the 27th.
- 3:12So congratulations on your opening there in Hawthorne.
- 3:15So welcome to Inspirations for Your Life.
- 3:17Who am I?
- 3:17Oh, I'm John C.
- 3:19Morley.
- 3:19I'm a serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video
- 3:23producer, podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student
- 3:28at Montclair State University, a passionate lifelong learner,
- 3:33and so grateful now to be a published
- 3:36author.
- 3:37That's right.
- 3:38So today, I continue the journey into letting
- 3:42go.
- 3:43Not an easy thing for people because many
- 3:46people, myself included, when I was younger, you
- 3:47always wanted to hold on things tight because
- 3:49you thought letting go meant you were losing
- 3:51control.
- 3:52You actually gain more control when you let
- 3:54go.
- 3:54But this time, we're going to go even
- 3:56deeper if you're ready because letting go is
- 3:59not just about removing things from your life,
- 4:02guys.
- 4:03Nope.
- 4:03It is about removing emotional weight and barriers
- 4:06from your mind that precludes you from doing
- 4:09what you want.
- 4:10And that weight is often tied to the
- 4:12past.
- 4:13Oh, by the way, guys, if you're thirsty
- 4:14or hungry, feel free to go grab yourself
- 4:15something.
- 4:16I have an RO water here with some
- 4:17fresh lemon.
- 4:19It is yummy.
- 4:21Right.
- 4:22But you can get something healthy or not.
- 4:24That's totally up to you.
- 4:25And come on back.
- 4:26So our core message today, which is important,
- 4:29the past is extremely powerful.
- 4:31Not because it defines you, but because it
- 4:34influences you when you are not aware of
- 4:38it.
- 4:39Many people are not stuck in their present
- 4:41moment.
- 4:42They are stuck in emotional loops from their
- 4:46past.
- 4:47They don't even know they are.
- 4:48And those loops silently shape decisions, reactions, and
- 4:53identity.
- 4:54So letting go is the process of breaking
- 4:57those loops.
- 4:59And I know that's hard for a lot
- 5:02of people to understand.
- 5:04So let's get right into some points that
- 5:05I think will help you resonate with all
- 5:07this.
- 5:07Number one, you cannot move forward while constantly
- 5:11looking backward.
- 5:12No, you can't do that, guys.
- 5:14Direction requires attention, not memory.
- 5:18Number two, the past is a chapter, not
- 5:22the entire story.
- 5:23It is information, not identity.
- 5:27Number three, letting go is essential when something
- 5:30no longer supports your own growth.
- 5:33Retention without purpose creates stagnation.
- 5:37Number four, nostalgia can distort reality and slow
- 5:41progress down.
- 5:43Memory is not always truth.
- 5:46We have to remember that.
- 5:47Number five, you do not owe your past
- 5:50unlimited emotional loyalty.
- 5:53Growth requires separation from outdated patterns.
- 5:58Number six, forgiveness is mental release, not approval
- 6:02of behavior.
- 6:04It frees energy without rewriting history.
- 6:08Number seven, replaying old moments drains present capacity.
- 6:13Attention becomes trapped in repetition.
- 6:17Number eight, you are allowed to outgrow previous
- 6:20versions of yourself.
- 6:22Identity is not fixed.
- 6:24Closure is often a decision.
- 6:26Number nine, not a conversation.
- 6:29You do not always receive external resolution, unfortunately.
- 6:34Number 10, learning and dwelling are not the
- 6:37same thing.
- 6:39One creates growth, the other creates loops.
- 6:43Sometimes those loops, we get stuck into them
- 6:45infinitely, and we don't even know how we
- 6:47got started or we got hooked on them.
- 6:50Number 11, old arguments do not deserve new
- 6:54emotional energy.
- 6:57I know a lot of people that think
- 6:58they do, and they wonder why things aren't
- 7:00working right.
- 7:02Repetition of conflict delays healing.
- 7:08And people think it's okay to delay stuff.
- 7:10I'm here to tell you if you delay,
- 7:12you're going to miss a lot of stuff.
- 7:15You're going to be upset because things aren't
- 7:17going the right way.
- 7:17And that is a very, very big problem
- 7:21for a lot of people to actually understand
- 7:25what's actually happening.
- 7:28So yeah, that's a very, very big one,
- 7:32guys, that hopefully you'll pay attention to.
- 7:35Number 12, you are allowed to stop explaining
- 7:38your past to yourself.
- 7:40I know some people are trying to figure
- 7:41out why they did something.
- 7:43Forget about it.
- 7:44Just move on.
- 7:45And when you move on, you will be
- 7:49a lot better.
- 7:50You will be a lot better.
- 7:55Overanalysis creates a paralysis, but it also creates
- 7:58what I like to say is a delay.
- 8:01And that delay seems to fester, seems to
- 8:05get worse.
- 8:07And it causes us to just not want
- 8:09to do anything, not want to change.
- 8:12And that's a very, very big problem, guys,
- 8:17a very, very big problem, and one that
- 8:19I think a lot of people don't realize
- 8:21exists.
- 8:23But it's a poison that actually basically keeps
- 8:29us back from achieving our goals.
- 8:32Number 13, guys, resentment acts like a constant
- 8:37emotional tax.
- 8:41It reduces available mental energy.
- 8:43That's number one.
- 8:45And when you reduce energy, well, the party
- 8:48is basically over, right?
- 8:49The party is over.
- 8:51And I think that's a problem that many
- 8:54people, like, they just don't get.
- 8:57They don't understand why that is or why
- 8:59that's happening.
- 9:01And I want to say it's important to
- 9:07understand that, right?
- 9:09And know what it means and where it's
- 9:13taking you or where it's holding you back
- 9:16from.
- 9:16Because, see, a lot of the things in
- 9:18our life, we don't do, but we don't
- 9:22realize why we're not doing it.
- 9:23We don't understand the price of something.
- 9:27We had somebody speaking today, and he was
- 9:30talking about a guy who had gotten a
- 9:32very huge award at a large publicly traded
- 9:35company.
- 9:35And now he's about to step down and
- 9:38retire.
- 9:41And there are a lot of younger people
- 9:43that were up for his position.
- 9:45And he says, if you want this position,
- 9:47you can have it.
- 9:50But I'm going to share the price with
- 9:51you that you're going to have to pay
- 9:54to get it.
- 9:56You're going to have to not learn your
- 10:00family's favorite color or their favorite book or
- 10:04even their first friend.
- 10:06You may miss many firsts, but that's a
- 10:09choice you're going to have to make if
- 10:12you want this position.
- 10:14Because this position is something you need to
- 10:16be at all the time.
- 10:19A lot of people don't realize the price
- 10:22something costs, and it's not a dollar cost.
- 10:25It's an experience cost, and that's priceless.
- 10:28Number 14, releasing the past creates space for
- 10:32the future.
- 10:33Letting go, guys, is expansion.
- 10:36And when we let go, well, we're able
- 10:40to breathe.
- 10:42And that breathing allows us to see that
- 10:44everything was always there in the past.
- 10:46We just never really paid attention to it.
- 10:49We never paid attention to it at all.
- 10:54And that might sound sad, but I think
- 10:57it's because some people don't live a life
- 11:00of awareness until they fall into almost a
- 11:06burnout.
- 11:07Number 15, you are not betraying your history
- 11:12by moving forward.
- 11:13A lot of people think, oh, well, if
- 11:14I don't do this anymore, then my history
- 11:16is being sacrificed.
- 11:17Nope.
- 11:18Evolution is not rejection.
- 11:20And I know a lot of people are
- 11:21like, well, if I do it this way,
- 11:24does that mean I'm disrespecting my grandparents or
- 11:27parents or something?
- 11:28No, it doesn't.
- 11:31So I think when we get into a
- 11:34loop of doing things, we're like, well, why
- 11:37am I doing it this way, or why
- 11:39am I not doing it this way?
- 11:44That's an important piece.
- 11:47Number 16, some people are meant to remain
- 11:51memories, not current roles in your life.
- 11:55Not all connections scale forward.
- 11:57And that's not something to be sad about.
- 11:59Some people will come into your life, and
- 12:00they'll stay there forever.
- 12:01Some people will come in for a day.
- 12:02Some people will come in for a week,
- 12:04a month, a year, or more, and leave.
- 12:08I think if you understand those things, you're
- 12:10going to be like, oh, now I actually
- 12:12get it.
- 12:12Now I know why this is this way.
- 12:17And that's a problem.
- 12:22That's a problem.
- 12:24And I think there are people out there
- 12:28that go seek the ego, because they think
- 12:33that's what it's about.
- 12:36And they don't realize that by seeking your
- 12:38ego, they're actually circumventing trust.
- 12:46They're manipulating people in a way that seems
- 12:51logical and it seems fair.
- 12:52But it's actually an unfair advantage.
- 12:57Number 17, guys, your standards can evolve even
- 13:02if others do not.
- 13:04Growth changes expectations.
- 13:07And you've got to learn that up front.
- 13:09If you don't understand that, then you're going
- 13:12to be very fearful of growing.
- 13:15Very fearful of growing.
- 13:20And I want to tell you that growing
- 13:23can be scary.
- 13:28Because one of the biggest things most people
- 13:30have a fear of is that they're not
- 13:34going to be able to handle it.
- 13:35They're not going to be enough.
- 13:36You know what the other fear is?
- 13:41That they're going to be too much for
- 13:43success.
- 13:46That they won't be able to handle it.
- 13:48So one is that they're not enough for
- 13:50it.
- 13:50And one is that they're too much.
- 13:53And that it won't work with them.
- 13:55Number 18, letting go is freedom.
- 13:59It's not loss.
- 14:00It increases emotional capacity every day.
- 14:04And when I ask them to let go,
- 14:05they're like, they'd rather do a million other
- 14:08things, but they don't want to let go.
- 14:11They don't want to let go.
- 14:13And I think that's a point that many
- 14:15people today don't understand that concept.
- 14:19They don't understand why that is happening.
- 14:23And that happens, guys, because you're in a
- 14:28certain state.
- 14:29And that state actually changes how you operate
- 14:35in life.
- 14:38It's an evolution.
- 14:40It's a perception.
- 14:44And this comes through a culmination of the
- 14:47inputs.
- 14:47Things you see, you hear, you touch, you
- 14:49taste, you smell.
- 14:53Everything creates your perception.
- 14:55And your perception, ladies and gentlemen, they create
- 14:56reality.
- 14:58Number 19, you can keep lessons without keeping
- 15:00emotional weight.
- 15:02Learning does not require attachment.
- 15:05Now, number 20, stop carrying stories that reduce
- 15:11your identity and your worth.
- 15:13Narratives will shape your behavior every day.
- 15:16So if you're hanging on a story and
- 15:18the story's not working for you, maybe it's
- 15:20time to ditch that story, right?
- 15:23And if you can't ditch the story, then
- 15:25maybe you've got to change your way.
- 15:30And that way might just keep you from
- 15:34all the things you've ever wanted in your
- 15:36life.
- 15:38And that might sound sad, but it really
- 15:45makes a difference.
- 15:49And that difference is the difference between you
- 15:54becoming successful and you not becoming successful.
- 16:03It happens by your perceptions, and then your
- 16:06perceptions will actually interconnect with your actions that
- 16:13you're going to take, your inspired actions, which
- 16:16are going to come from your inspired thoughts.
- 16:23That's an important thing to understand.
- 16:26But many people today don't understand that.
- 16:31And I'll say they don't understand it because
- 16:33they get scared.
- 16:37They get scared of what's happening in their
- 16:40life.
- 16:40They get scared of the potential that could
- 16:43be going on in their life.
- 16:45And for whatever reason, they just don't know
- 16:48why something is a certain way, right?
- 16:55I think that's a hard thing for a
- 16:58lot of people to understand.
- 17:05They go one way, and then they try
- 17:07to change, but then they don't realize what
- 17:11got them across the threshold, what got them
- 17:13to change their perception in life.
- 17:16And until they make that realization, they're never
- 17:22going to change.
- 17:24They're never going to grow.
- 17:26Number 21, the past can guide you, but
- 17:30it should not lead you.
- 17:32Direction belongs to the present, not the past.
- 17:37Number 22, today, release one thought that pulls
- 17:41you backward.
- 17:44Awareness begins with small actions, micro steps.
- 17:51When you start to release things, your life
- 17:55gets easier.
- 17:58You actually get more control when you release
- 18:00things.
- 18:05That's a pretty important thing, guys.
- 18:15And that means something to a lot of
- 18:17people.
- 18:18But they don't always understand it day one.
- 18:26They go into a loop once, and they
- 18:30think they're done.
- 18:32But they keep looping.
- 18:33It reminds me, if you ever, being an
- 18:35Eagle Scout, and I remember when I was
- 18:36a Cub Scout, even a Weeblow, we would
- 18:38follow the older Scouts, and we'd go around
- 18:41a tree.
- 18:43And we'd come back a half hour, an
- 18:46hour later.
- 18:48I think we're at the same tree.
- 18:50No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 18:50That's a different tree.
- 18:52We come back again 20, 30 minutes later.
- 18:56That's the same tree.
- 18:57No, that's a different tree.
- 18:59I said, I have an idea.
- 19:01What are you doing?
- 19:02I'm tying my scarf around the tree because
- 19:06I have a strange hunch this is the
- 19:08same tree or a rope.
- 19:09So I tied it.
- 19:10I think it was a rope I tied
- 19:11around the tree.
- 19:13I said, well, why are you doing that?
- 19:14That's stupid.
- 19:14We'll just do it.
- 19:16So we came back.
- 19:19No, that's a different tree.
- 19:20No, that's the same tree.
- 19:21I tied a rope around it.
- 19:23Oh, I guess we should go this way
- 19:25then.
- 19:29So you don't realize that your perceptions are
- 19:32shaping your direction until you become aware, like
- 19:35we did with wasting several hours going around
- 19:37that tree.
- 19:39Number 23, stop justifying patterns that no longer
- 19:42serve you.
- 19:43Explanation often delays change, and humans love to
- 19:48procrastinate.
- 19:49They think it's an easier way, but really,
- 19:51guys, it's not easier.
- 19:52It becomes harder.
- 19:55And I think that's something that a lot
- 19:57of people, they don't understand, that it's about
- 20:01who you are and what you can become.
- 20:09That means a lot, guys.
- 20:13That means a lot.
- 20:19And I can tell you guys that these
- 20:21are things that maybe won't resonate with you
- 20:25immediately.
- 20:26But I want to tell you that they
- 20:30have the potential to change who you are
- 20:34and even the people you interact with.
- 20:37Number 24, you do not need to win
- 20:40old emotional battles.
- 20:42Nope.
- 20:43Closure is not victory.
- 20:47You might think it is.
- 20:49It's not victory.
- 20:51Number 25, your present life cannot grow inside
- 20:56old emotional environments.
- 20:57As much as you try, you're going to
- 21:01burn a lot of energy, but you're not
- 21:03actually going to get anywhere.
- 21:10Does that make sense?
- 21:16And I can say that it's a little
- 21:20bit crazy that people don't understand this.
- 21:25They just kind of go a certain way,
- 21:29and they don't realize why something is being
- 21:32a certain way.
- 21:33And that happens because we get comfortable in
- 21:37a certain state, and we don't bother to
- 21:41explore outside that circle or that state.
- 21:43So we figure, let's just stay comfortable, right?
- 21:46Let's do what we need to do because
- 21:48humans like to stay comfortable.
- 21:50And I've told you before that growth does
- 21:52not lie in comfortability.
- 21:53It lies in discomfort.
- 21:58Context matters, guys.
- 22:03Number 26, moving lighter allows you to move
- 22:07further.
- 22:08Less weight increases distance.
- 22:14Number 27, you're allowed to restart any time
- 22:20in your life or any point in your
- 22:21life.
- 22:21Reinvention is always available.
- 22:24You can hit reset.
- 22:24You don't just have to do it on
- 22:26Monday or on January 1st.
- 22:30That's a myth, okay?
- 22:31Or on the first of the month.
- 22:33You can reset any time you want.
- 22:34Just like you can reset your mileage counter
- 22:36in your car any time you want.
- 22:37You don't have to reset it at the
- 22:39beginning of a trip.
- 22:39It makes sense, but you can reset it
- 22:41any time you're driving.
- 22:43Number 28, letting go is a skill that
- 22:47strengthens with practice.
- 22:50The first time I was jumping, I had
- 22:51to let go.
- 22:51It was like, oh my gosh.
- 22:52What am I doing?
- 22:53Am I killing myself?
- 22:55No.
- 22:55It feels strange, but when you go with
- 23:00it and you realize you get more control,
- 23:02it's like, oh wow, I actually get this.
- 23:04Emotional discipline is trainable.
- 23:08But again, it doesn't happen overnight.
- 23:10Number 29, every release is a vote for
- 23:12yourself.
- 23:14Choices define direction, okay?
- 23:17That takes people their entire life sometimes to
- 23:19even understand what that even means.
- 23:22Number 30, letting go is step one of
- 23:25leveling up.
- 23:27And that's step two, release creates the path
- 23:31forward.
- 23:34So many people hold on to things and
- 23:36they just don't release them.
- 23:38They can, but they don't.
- 23:41Before we close out the show, again, I
- 23:44want to give that reach out to, it's

- 26:38So, ladies and gentlemen, here is the truth.
- 26:41The past does not disappear on its own.
- 26:44Sorry.
- 26:46You have to release it.
- 26:48You need to choose it.
- 26:50You decide when it stops leading your life.
- 26:53If you don't decide, it keeps leading, and
- 26:55it keeps controlling it.
- 26:56And every time you let go of something
- 26:59that no longer belongs, you make room for
- 27:05something that does.
- 27:07Ladies and gentlemen, I am John Seymour, a
- 27:09leisure entrepreneur, and this has been Inspirations for
- 27:12Your Life, and this is where letting go
- 27:15becomes leveling up.
- 27:18Now, don't give yourself a hard time if
- 27:21you can't let go right away.
- 27:23It takes time, right?
- 27:24Like when you start swimming, don't expect to
- 27:26be a diver overnight or be a great
- 27:29breaststroke swimmer overnight or even do the crawl
- 27:31stroke overnight.
- 27:32Things take time, right?
- 27:33You first got to learn how to breathe.
- 27:35You got to learn how to crawl before
- 27:36you can walk.
- 27:37You got to learn how to walk before
- 27:38you can run.
- 27:40So letting go might be a little of
- 27:43a process.
- 27:44So I tell you to not get frustrated,
- 27:46but enjoy that process.
- 27:49Disassociate with things, and when you do, they
- 27:51won't have control of you.
- 27:52Have yourself a great rest of your day
- 27:54or evening.
- 27:55I'll catch you guys in another show real
- 27:56soon.
