Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to The Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: You know, something I've noticed over the years is that we writers really love to talk about writing.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: We buy books about it, we attend conferences, we listen to podcasts, and we take courses all on writing, and we spend hours planning the books and other projects that we really want to create.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, heck, I literally have three shelves full of books on writing in my home office, and that's no exaggeration.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: However, all that said, when it comes time to sit down and actually put words on the page, suddenly all kinds of things get in the way.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: And maybe you've struggled with this too.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: You probably have a book that you've been thinking about for years, or you want to start creating a newsletter or write some articles or maybe even build a business around your writing.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: But life gets busy and you get distracted.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: You don't feel inspired, and before long, another week, or maybe another month, or another year, has gone by without you making any major progress.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Well, I have a simple solution to this timeless problem, which is to build a writing habit that lasts.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: One of the most important things you can do as a writer is to stop depending on feeling inspired or feeling creative and start developing a consistent writing practice.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: So instead of looking at writing as something that we do only when we feel creative, it's helpful to look at it as a blue-collar job, just like carpentry or plumbing.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: And it's a craft that takes regular, sustained effort.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: So over the next few days, I'm going to share seven keys to building a writing habit that actually works over the long haul.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: We're going to talk about your goals, your writing environment, your routines, and how you schedule your writing, how to deal with perfectionism, and a lot more.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: The truth is that you don't need another complicated writing system to manage.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Instead, you just need to make writing a normal, enjoyable, and productive part of your life.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: After all, I believe that a great writing habit is the pathway to everything you've dreamed about as a writer.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: I'm excited about this series and looking forward to getting started tomorrow.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks for listening.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Keep writing and keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
