- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset, coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy. Into the.
- 0:21World. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning.
- 0:30Our conversation this morning is going to be a little different.
- 0:32It's on the fly because I walked out this morning to do my rounds
- 0:37and check very early lights, grow lights are not on in the
- 0:40garage and and the tomatoes have made an exponential jump
- 0:45overnight where when I went to bed they were not touching the
- 0:50lights and now they are. They are completely touching the
- 0:55lights. They have encroached on every
- 0:57single bit of the space that they have.
- 0:59I've only got about 3, maybe 4 inches.
- 1:03I can raise the lights. And I mean, then they're going
- 1:08to have to go outside. And it's still in the like high
- 1:1050s here at night. And tomatoes really like much
- 1:15warmer weather. And we're supposed to be getting
- 1:17that for hopefully this weekend. I can hold them off and I can
- 1:22keep them in here. But it presents such an issue
- 1:25because I don't like to put things in the wrong conditions.
- 1:29We talk about conditions a lot because I really believe
- 1:31cultivating your conditions is, is the way to go.
- 1:35Now the zucchini, completely different story.
- 1:38It's gigantic and it needs to go out and it's going to go out
- 1:41hopefully tomorrow. I'm holding it back one more
- 1:44night because it's going to be pretty chilly tonight.
- 1:47And then hopefully it will be able to go out tomorrow.
- 1:50And I, you know, it's a more resilient vegetable, but the
- 1:56tomatoes are delicate. And I like to think of all of
- 1:59these as parts of us. You know, there are parts of me
- 2:02that are more delicate and there are parts of me that are more
- 2:05zucchini like where I can just, like, take the conditions.
- 2:08But knowing this about yourself is incredibly important.
- 2:11Now here's the funny part of this.
- 2:13I prepared. This is the crazy thing.
- 2:16I actually prepared saying I am not putting them in earlier.
- 2:20I usually start mid March growing them so they have plenty
- 2:23of time to get to this point that they are right now.
- 2:26But because I did a new method of the soil and put them in
- 2:30better conditions, they grew exponentially.
- 2:33So how often do we do this to ourselves?
- 2:35Because we make things better for ourselves, we grow
- 2:39exponentially. And then we're like, oh crap,
- 2:41where do, what do we do now? Where do we go?
- 2:43Where do we go? What do we do?
- 2:45How do we, how do we go from this point forward?
- 2:48And it causes us to sit to, to freeze often because it doesn't
- 2:51always fit into our quote UN quote goals.
- 2:54And we get stuck. We'll be like, oh, my goal was
- 2:57to have this by then, but this is too quick or too soon or this
- 3:00or that. And we start to pull ourselves
- 3:02back, which is the worst thing we can do because we worked
- 3:05really hard to get to that point.
- 3:07And and we don't want to have to recalibrate or redo or rethink
- 3:12because it's too scary or whatever it might be.
- 3:16And the reason this is so important to evaluate for
- 3:19yourself is goodness gracious, you don't work all this time and
- 3:24so hard and getting somewhere and then all of a sudden decide,
- 3:27yeah, you know, this is too fast.
- 3:29I need to slow down. I hear that a lot.
- 3:33Yet we create those conditions that are too fast or too much or
- 3:38whatever it might be, and we have to pause and really, really
- 3:43look at it so that we can say, hey, no, I made this happen like
- 3:48I'm standing here and I made this happen by doing what I did
- 3:53and taking the time and investing the time and the money
- 3:56into the soil. This is a good thing.
- 4:00It's a quality problem. I often use that phrase with
- 4:03clients. It's a quality problem we have
- 4:05right now. So when we are in this position,
- 4:11we have options, but we have to sort them out.
- 4:14So I'm going to use the tomatoes as an example, but this is
- 4:17something that you do in every situation.
- 4:19The first thing you do is you, you stop and you pause and you
- 4:22say, OK, how much, how much time do I have left that I can keep
- 4:26them in here? Well, I've got about.
- 4:27I'm basing time in inches right now.
- 4:30I've got about 4 inches. Like I said, I can bring these
- 4:32lights up about four inches, maybe three.
- 4:35With the light itself being tight, tight, tight to where it
- 4:39is. I can get tighter with it.
- 4:40OK, great. Perfect.
- 4:42That's what we'll do. We'll bring the lights up as
- 4:44high as we can. And what else can I do?
- 4:47I can shut the heat pads off on the bottom so that way it stops
- 4:51that growth in the soil. Like I can slow them down by
- 4:55shutting the heat pad off, which is something I'm going to do
- 4:58just enough not to hurt them, but just enough to help
- 5:03condition them to what they're going into because that soil
- 5:06outside is going to be colder. So I can do that.
- 5:09And then I can look at it and say, OK, I've got a couple days
- 5:12where I've got to, you know, warm them up outside in the sun
- 5:16before I just put them in. Otherwise they'll get burnt and
- 5:18they'll be unhealthy. So I've got to do start bringing
- 5:21them in and out and in and out, which today is not the day
- 5:23because it's windy and tomorrow is maybe the day.
- 5:26But we'll see. It all depends on this wind in
- 5:29because it's high, highwind. But I can look at all the
- 5:32conditions and I can see where I can tweak things.
- 5:34And that's what we have to do in our life.
- 5:36Look at your conditions, stop, pause, look at the conditions,
- 5:40start to tweak, and then you can make small micro decisions
- 5:46around it rather than just throwing in the towel and being
- 5:49like, Oh no, I'm panicking because panic doesn't get us
- 5:52anywhere. All right, my friends go look at
- 5:55it and I'm going to figure out what to do with these tomatoes
- 5:57and I'm going to make a lot of notes for next year.
- 6:00So I know because this will be helpful next time around.
- 6:04OK everybody, I hope you have a blessed day and I will see you
- 6:07tomorrow. Bye.
