Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Per It's Meat Eater Podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:13Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer Newhart and today
- 0:17Speaker 2: we're joined by Yannie Brody, Randall, Seth, Marge Colin and Chili.
- 0:22Speaker 2: This is a ten round quiz show with questions from
- 0:25Speaker 2: meat Eater's four verticals which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking,
- 0:29Speaker 2: and there is a prize. Mediator will donate five hundred
- 0:31Speaker 2: dollars to the conservation organization of the winners. Choosing and
- 0:36Speaker 2: for the stat of the week. This week we're looking
- 0:38Speaker 2: at data from the first two weeks of meat Eater
- 0:41Speaker 2: crossword puzzles. As reminder, our website now has weekly crossword
- 0:45Speaker 2: puzzles that are outdoor themed and free to play. It
- 0:49Speaker 2: takes the average player nine minutes and five seconds to
- 0:53Speaker 2: finish all twenty clues. Their average score is one hundred
- 0:57Speaker 2: and two points. Now I always test these on our
- 1:00Speaker 2: very own Randall Williams before they get sent out to
- 1:03Speaker 2: the Meat Eater audience, and believe it or not, he's
- 1:06Speaker 2: very good at them. Randall's average time is two minutes
- 1:10Speaker 2: and twenty nine seconds and his average score is three
- 1:14Speaker 2: hundred eighty points. Only two players among the tens of
- 1:18Speaker 2: thousands who have played so far have gotten a better
- 1:21Speaker 2: score than Him's what's the perfect score?
- 1:25Speaker 3: Well, it even to get a score.
- 1:27Speaker 2: It's it's based on how many hints you use and
- 1:29Speaker 2: how much time you take. It's just basically accuracy in time.
- 1:33Speaker 2: That it's fast.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Doesn't mean anything if I don't know what, like, like,
- 1:37Speaker 4: how good is well.
- 1:38Speaker 5: If you do it as fast as he possibly can,
- 1:40Speaker 5: he don't use any hands and you get everything right
- 1:43Speaker 5: and you get us three eighty.
- 1:44Speaker 2: We we know his randall got three hundred eighty points
- 1:49Speaker 2: three straight times, three straight weeks, and we're like, this
- 1:51Speaker 2: must be the max. So h one of our folks
- 1:54Speaker 2: when in logan Dove who had the answers in front
- 1:56Speaker 2: of them, he typed them in as fast as he
- 1:59Speaker 2: possibly could, and his score was four to ten.
- 2:02Speaker 6: So how long did what was his time?
- 2:04Speaker 2: I don't remember what it was.
- 2:05Speaker 6: Oh, that's incredible. I mean, that's useful information.
- 2:08Speaker 2: To answer your question, Brody. The perfect score varies based
- 2:11Speaker 2: on how tough the clues are on a given week
- 2:13Speaker 2: and how many questions there are. There's almost always twenty clues,
- 2:17Speaker 2: but we've we've noticed.
- 2:18Speaker 4: That four aout three times in a row, you've gotten
- 2:21Speaker 4: three hundreds.
- 2:22Speaker 6: I just max score.
- 2:25Speaker 7: Close, so there's twenty twenty answers. That's right, and he's
- 2:31Speaker 7: doing all that in two minutes.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Two minutes and twenty nine second.
- 2:36Speaker 6: Can we do this line averages going down? I think
- 2:38Speaker 6: this was I think we should.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Watch it just to read everything.
- 2:43Speaker 2: We'll film him sometime just to make sure everything's kosher
- 2:46Speaker 2: over this.
- 2:47Speaker 5: I'm just shocked in appalled that the crossword game requires explanation.
- 2:51Speaker 6: I assume that everybody in the office was playing it.
- 2:54Speaker 2: That's a negative now to be fair town to sit
- 2:57Speaker 2: around playing.
- 2:57Speaker 7: I mean, I guess only to get two minutes seconds.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Even if Randall was cheating, the fact that he could
- 3:03Speaker 2: google those questions that quickly is still impressive. If you listen,
- 3:06Speaker 2: If you want to try cheating at the crossword puzzles,
- 3:09Speaker 2: no one is stopping you.
- 3:10Speaker 6: That's bigger waste of time crossword.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Why would cheat? I just looked at it and said, oh,
- 3:17Speaker 3: I don't have the hour. It'll take me.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Like I said, the average player takes nine minutes.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Now I'll try the next one.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Okay, unless you're a doctor over there, then two minutes
- 3:29Speaker 2: and twenty nine.
- 3:30Speaker 5: This is a huge confidence boost going into today's Trivia episode.
- 3:34Speaker 5: I hope that it's not setting me up for failure.
- 3:37Speaker 5: Is there going to be with this crossword thing?
- 3:40Speaker 8: Is there going to be like a prize for the
- 3:42Speaker 8: person that has like the best overall average?
- 3:44Speaker 2: No, because then it would just be Randall well exclude. Yes,
- 3:48Speaker 2: someday we'll game willfy this even more. Yeah, well, maybe
- 3:52Speaker 2: we'll start sending out some sign board games like we
- 3:54Speaker 2: do think expensive dual Wordley. If people keep playing the crossword,
- 4:01Speaker 2: there are more games to come now. The newest Medeater
- 4:05Speaker 2: crossword puzzle is is live right now at the medeater
- 4:09Speaker 2: dot com backslash games. There are now four of them
- 4:12Speaker 2: on our website that you can play. Please go there
- 4:14Speaker 2: and try to beat Randall's suspiciously good scores. Here's our
- 4:19Speaker 2: Infrequently Asked Questions segment. If you have a trivia related
- 4:22Speaker 2: question for our crew, send it to Trivia at the
- 4:25Speaker 2: medeater dot com with the subject line I FAQ Jamie
- 4:29Speaker 2: Calvert wants to know. On a recent episode, Krin mentioned
- 4:32Speaker 2: that there should be an outtakes compilation for the upcoming videos.
- 4:37Speaker 2: You'll be releasing. I was wondering if you have considered
- 4:39Speaker 2: putting together an outtakes video from Trivia and the collective
- 4:43Speaker 2: content you create. I think it would be incredible to
- 4:46Speaker 2: see the goofy moments that never make the show. Here's
- 4:49Speaker 2: the thing, Jamie, we don't have outtakes because Phil doesn't
- 4:51Speaker 2: allow us to edit anything out of Trivia. Trivia is
- 4:54Speaker 2: just what you hear, is what happens in this room.
- 4:57Speaker 2: If it's a forty five minute episode, that means you
- 4:59Speaker 2: got all four five minutes of us sitting in the
- 5:01Speaker 2: studio Meat.
- 5:02Speaker 9: Eater raw and I'm cut.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Phil says the cameras make it too hard to edit things.
- 5:08Speaker 2: But how how often does Steve have you editing things
- 5:11Speaker 2: in a regular Monday episode.
- 5:13Speaker 9: I mean, even before video, we didn't do a lot
- 5:17Speaker 9: of editing, even with the Meat Eater podcasts. If there
- 5:20Speaker 9: was like a and I did do some editing in
- 5:22Speaker 9: Trivia before the cameras, I would cut out really long,
- 5:25Speaker 9: awkward pauses. But now now if we do that in video,
- 5:28Speaker 9: then we just have to like crossfade all those and
- 5:30Speaker 9: it would look kind of goofy and and silly. So
- 5:32Speaker 9: when you watch on YouTube and when you listen to
- 5:34Speaker 9: the podcast. You're getting the whole. There's no cuts, no.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Outtakes, and we should try and work.
- 5:39Speaker 4: And this is a long, awkward pause.
- 5:41Speaker 6: This is as funny as we get.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yeah, all the all the goofy moments stay in, you know,
- 5:48Speaker 2: instead of housekeeping. This week, we have an announcement about
- 5:51Speaker 2: an upcoming meat Eater project. Starting on September seventh, we'll
- 5:55Speaker 2: be going on the meat Eater Tailgate Tour. We'll be
- 5:57Speaker 2: making four stops at some of the big college football
- 6:01Speaker 2: games this season and hanging out the hanging outside the
- 6:04Speaker 2: stadium before the event. We've got stops in Michigan, Texas, Tennessee,
- 6:08Speaker 2: and Pennsylvania with crew members such as me Yannie, Clay Randall,
- 6:12Speaker 2: Seth Brody, and more. You can go to the medeater
- 6:15Speaker 2: dot com backslash tailgate for more information on how you
- 6:19Speaker 2: can find us at each game. And this is your
- 6:22Speaker 2: chance to be on the show. At the first stop
- 6:25Speaker 2: in ann Arbor, Michigan, I'll be hosting an episode of
- 6:28Speaker 2: Medeater Trivia where fans will go head to head with
- 6:31Speaker 2: doctor Randall in the only game show where conservation always wins.
- 6:36Speaker 2: But don't worry, I'll be giving those fans a huge
- 6:38Speaker 2: advantage because I don't want Randall to win. So if
- 6:42Speaker 2: you'll be at the September seventh game between the Michigan
- 6:45Speaker 2: Wolverines and Texas Longhorns, then shoot me an email at
- 6:49Speaker 2: trivia at the Medeater dot com and tell me why
- 6:52Speaker 2: you want to be on the show.
- 6:53Speaker 7: It'll just be like you'll find one person and it'll
- 6:57Speaker 7: be one question and then you'll find another one.
- 7:00Speaker 2: We're gonna do a regular old episode, ten questions and
- 7:02Speaker 2: meat Eater trivia. We'll pull in fans from the Texas Longhorns.
- 7:06Speaker 2: We'll pull in how many, I don't know. Well, Phil
- 7:10Speaker 2: has a limited number of inputs that he can bring
- 7:13Speaker 2: on the road with us, so I think it's like
- 7:15Speaker 2: four or five fans something like that. But email me
- 7:18Speaker 2: trivia at the mediater dot com and tell me if
- 7:21Speaker 2: you're going to be there and why you want to play,
- 7:23Speaker 2: and then you'll get to come compete against Randall and
- 7:26Speaker 2: probably win.
- 7:27Speaker 6: Obviously, I didn't get the full story before I agreed
- 7:30Speaker 6: to this.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Randall just learned I was you're nervous now that he's
- 7:33Speaker 2: fighting with this hand behind his back for the ann
- 7:37Speaker 2: Arbor episode.
- 7:39Speaker 7: And Bridy and I will be at the uh Penn.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Game right during the run game in the country.
- 7:47Speaker 7: It's the big sore subject. I was gonna say nothing
- 7:51Speaker 7: about it.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yan He was asking if he even has to go
- 7:54Speaker 2: to the game or if he can get out of
- 7:56Speaker 2: there and go hunting.
- 7:57Speaker 7: Hey, if we're going to dive right in, and this
- 7:58Speaker 7: is how I feel about that.
- 8:04Speaker 2: You might have to edit that.
- 8:06Speaker 3: I think we're gonna get some squirrel hunting in the
- 8:08Speaker 3: morning of.
- 8:09Speaker 8: So, yeah, that'll make some good squirrel hunting.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Very stick around there for a little while, and you.
- 8:14Speaker 4: See he's gonna be checking his trail cameras every five minutes.
- 8:17Speaker 8: So I got right after that that game. I'm coming
- 8:20Speaker 8: home to do a week long deer camp Montana, but
- 8:23Speaker 8: I think I'm gonna go early there.
- 8:24Speaker 2: You get in un Yeah, so.
- 8:26Speaker 5: You guys are going squirrel hunting and I'm playing a
- 8:28Speaker 5: stacked game of trivia lovely uh huh.
- 8:32Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Go find Yanni and Seth and Brody at that Penn
- 8:36Speaker 2: State game and Yanni will show you all the trail
- 8:38Speaker 2: camp pictures that he's getting right during the rut. He'd
- 8:41Speaker 2: be thrilled to show you.
- 8:43Speaker 7: If there's a cold front going on right, then that's
- 8:45Speaker 7: gonna really burn.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, like music festivals, if if an act
- 8:50Speaker 2: drops out one of the fifty, they'll just like cross
- 8:52Speaker 2: their name out. That may happen with the Tailgate tour.
- 8:55Speaker 2: If a cold front comes through on November.
- 8:57Speaker 8: Sex, I guarantee you I'll be getting trailcam pictures from
- 9:01Speaker 8: a trail camera that's will be about forty five minutes away.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Oh that's a lot of information, so keep that in mind.
- 9:09Speaker 3: MM do you think we can act upon that?
- 9:12Speaker 8: I think we can make it happen the medieater.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Dot com backslash Tailgate. Now, the Shelby Index for today
- 9:18Speaker 2: is a four, so our winner should get eight correct answers.
- 9:22Speaker 2: And with that we're onto the game of trivia. Play
- 9:25Speaker 2: the drop, Phil, Look, I need to know what I
- 9:30Speaker 2: stand to win everything? How's that just tend to win everything?
- 9:42Speaker 2: Gamon Suckers. Question one. The topic is conservation, and as always,
- 9:48Speaker 2: this will be multiple choice and this first great question
- 9:52Speaker 2: is via Jake Burton. According to the National Park Service,
- 9:57Speaker 2: what percentage of wildfires in America are caused by humans?
- 10:02Speaker 2: Is it twenty five percent, forty five percent, sixty five percent,
- 10:09Speaker 2: or eighty five percent. What percentage of wildfires in America
- 10:17Speaker 2: are caused by humans? Twenty five percent, forty five percent,
- 10:24Speaker 2: sixty five percent, or eighty five percent. Our forestry expert
- 10:31Speaker 2: over here, Seth, how do you feel about your answer?
- 10:35Speaker 8: Hmmm? I might change it, oh honestly. Okay, now I'm
- 10:39Speaker 8: gonna stick with it.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Well, there are a lot of folks very quick to
- 10:42Speaker 2: answer in the room. Is everybody ready?
- 10:47Speaker 6: I can't run the numbers in my head again, so.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth saying
- 10:54Speaker 2: sixty five, Chili eighty five, Random sixty five, Colin eighty five,
- 11:02Speaker 2: Marge sixty five, and her answer is on fire, Yanni
- 11:06Speaker 2: twenty five, Brody sixty five. The correct answer is eighty
- 11:13Speaker 2: five percent. I think we had chili and Colin get
- 11:17Speaker 2: that one.
- 11:18Speaker 6: Almost changed it off to a great start.
- 11:20Speaker 2: The top human related cause of wildfires are unattended campfires.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Other human related causes include burning trash equipment, malfunction, discarded cigarettes, fireworks,
- 11:32Speaker 2: and arson. For non human related causes, the top wildfire
- 11:36Speaker 2: starters are lightning, strikes, volcanoes, and spontaneous combustion. Two of
- 11:43Speaker 2: those three, there's only fifteen percent that can't be humans,
- 11:48Speaker 2: so there's not a lot of options out there. Question
- 11:51Speaker 2: to the topic is hunting. This brand, which is famous
- 11:55Speaker 2: for their shot collar technology, claims to have the best
- 11:59Speaker 2: selling expandable broadhead of all time. The topic is hunting
- 12:10Speaker 2: This brand, which is famous for their shock collar technology,
- 12:14Speaker 2: claims to have the best selling expandable broadhead of all time.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Seth only to come up with an answer.
- 12:23Speaker 8: Yeah, I think, well, if it's what I'm thinking of,
- 12:27Speaker 8: I used to.
- 12:28Speaker 2: Oh, okay, there's a hint if you know Seth's gear history,
- 12:34Speaker 2: which no one in here knows. Seth barely knows that.
- 12:37Speaker 2: He seems he hadn't had to think about it for
- 12:39Speaker 2: a second. This brand, which is famous for their shock
- 12:42Speaker 2: collar technology, claims to have the best selling expandable broadhead
- 12:47Speaker 2: of all time. You ever messed around with them?
- 12:52Speaker 10: Young?
- 12:53Speaker 2: No expandable broadheads or this company?
- 12:58Speaker 7: Both of those answers expandable broadheads. Though uh gosh, darn it,
- 13:04Speaker 7: I wrote down one, but I know it's not right.
- 13:07Speaker 7: It's the other one, Okay, I cannot think of.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Do you have the other one that he's looking for?
- 13:13Speaker 3: You think, uh, the other one?
- 13:20Speaker 2: Well, there's a hint if Yanni has time to come
- 13:23Speaker 2: up with the other one.
- 13:24Speaker 6: Well, he could be right.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Oh maybe maybe maybe. This brand, which is famous for
- 13:32Speaker 2: their shot collar technology, claims to have the best selling
- 13:36Speaker 2: expandable broadhead of all time.
- 13:38Speaker 8: Randall doesn't archery hunt.
- 13:40Speaker 3: No, No, I don't again.
- 13:42Speaker 8: That's fantastic.
- 13:42Speaker 2: That is their claim. They put that everywhere in big
- 13:46Speaker 2: old letters. We have the best selling expandable broadhead of
- 13:50Speaker 2: all time.
- 13:51Speaker 5: No for this one, I need to rely on arguments
- 13:54Speaker 5: I've seen on the internet between fixed and.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Mechanical, and you haven't.
- 13:59Speaker 6: I do, okay, no confidence in it?
- 14:01Speaker 3: Yea. The element boys like to get in on some
- 14:04Speaker 3: of that.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Is everybody ready, I'm torn between two. But Colin, do
- 14:10Speaker 2: you have an answer?
- 14:11Speaker 8: Answer?
- 14:12Speaker 2: Let's go ahead and revel your answers. We have said rage, Chili,
- 14:18Speaker 2: said Schwacker, Randall Rage, Colin rage, Marge without an answer,
- 14:25Speaker 2: Jannis Schwacker Brodie rage. The correct answer is not Schwacker,
- 14:33Speaker 2: it's rageh got it. Rage broadheads hit the market in
- 14:40Speaker 2: two thousand and six. They set themselves apart by introducing
- 14:43Speaker 2: expandable broadheads that were rear deploying instead of over the
- 14:48Speaker 2: top deploying. Their first broadheads had dental bands holding the
- 14:51Speaker 2: blades in place, but eventually went to using the patented
- 14:55Speaker 2: shot collars.
- 14:56Speaker 8: I've killed some stuff with o spencer. Yeah.
- 14:59Speaker 2: A lot of folks like to blame rage. They're like
- 15:02Speaker 2: the Boogeyman for a lot of bowhunters who think that
- 15:06Speaker 2: they didn't recover a critter because the broadhead failed them.
- 15:11Speaker 8: No, I've recovered animals, bad shots on animals because of rage.
- 15:15Speaker 2: You think it was range's fault.
- 15:16Speaker 6: Big holes?
- 15:17Speaker 9: No, no, No.
- 15:18Speaker 8: I shot a deer in the guts one time and
- 15:20Speaker 8: that thing didn't go far at all because the hole. Yeah.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Yes, I'm sure there have absolutely been failures for folks.
- 15:29Speaker 2: People are too eager to just like blame the broadhead
- 15:32Speaker 2: when they don't recover a deer. Question three. The topic
- 15:35Speaker 2: is woodsmanship. The twenty seventeen Hurricane Harvey caused most of
- 15:40Speaker 2: its one hundred and twenty five billion dollars in damage
- 15:44Speaker 2: in this state. Harvey Randall coming up with an answer.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Now he's the only one. The twenty seven eighteen was
- 16:00Speaker 2: the quickest. The twenty seventeen Hurricane Harvey caused most of
- 16:04Speaker 2: its one hundred and twenty five billion dollars in damage
- 16:09Speaker 2: in this state. Joanni, what broadheads are you shooting these days?
- 16:18Speaker 3: Iron Wills?
- 16:20Speaker 2: Oh, one of them guys. Have you ever considered an
- 16:23Speaker 2: expandable broadhead?
- 16:25Speaker 3: Considered it?
- 16:26Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 16:26Speaker 2: Considerate, But that's as far as he's gone.
- 16:28Speaker 7: Yeah. I had a story about a rage. It was
- 16:31Speaker 7: right back when they came out and before they had
- 16:34Speaker 7: the shot collar, and the guy I was guiding, had
- 16:38Speaker 7: they had figured it out that there.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Was an issue with it.
- 16:40Speaker 2: What year you think this was?
- 16:43Speaker 6: Like?
- 16:43Speaker 2: Probably ten, two thousand and six is when they hit
- 16:49Speaker 2: the markets. Ten, that'd be in the early years of rage.
- 16:51Speaker 7: Go ahead, And so they would take that rubber band
- 16:55Speaker 7: off and instead just put like a little piece of
- 16:57Speaker 7: like the you know the why that you would tie
- 16:59Speaker 7: like a copper jump body with h They just put
- 17:02Speaker 7: a piece of that wire around it and that would
- 17:05Speaker 7: make it hold on longer until it got into the
- 17:07Speaker 7: animal called in a giant like a three sixty something,
- 17:11Speaker 7: and he smoked it at like ten or fifteen yards,
- 17:13Speaker 7: and I watched it fall over dead.
- 17:15Speaker 3: That's how far it went.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Very cool.
- 17:20Speaker 8: It was a rage commercial.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Again. The twenty seventeen Hurricane Harvey caused most of its
- 17:28Speaker 2: one hundred and twenty five billion dollars in damage in
- 17:32Speaker 2: this state. Brody, I think we're waiting on you waiting
- 17:40Speaker 2: last question. He was the one to say turn him over.
- 17:42Speaker 7: I'm sure everybody has an answer by now this question.
- 17:46Speaker 7: Ye keep WA's got just take a hurricane state North
- 17:52Speaker 7: Dakota to figure.
- 17:53Speaker 5: Hurricanes state with one hundred and twenty five billion dollars
- 17:55Speaker 5: for the stuff to destroy.
- 17:58Speaker 3: That's a hint right there.
- 18:00Speaker 6: Everybody ready using all the available clues, go ahead.
- 18:03Speaker 2: And reveal your answers. We have seth and Chili saying Texas.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Randall crossed out Texas and said Florida. Colin New York,
- 18:13Speaker 2: Marge Florida, and she drew a giant tsunami wave destroying
- 18:18Speaker 2: a city. That's brilliant. March Jannis says Florida. Brody crossed
- 18:24Speaker 2: out Florida and wrote Texas. We haven't. It's Texas. About
- 18:32Speaker 2: half of you got that one right. Hurricane Harvey is
- 18:37Speaker 2: second only to two thousand and five's Hurricane Katrina for
- 18:40Speaker 2: the costliest hurricane of all time. Harvey was a Category
- 18:45Speaker 2: four storm that caused most of its damage through rainfall
- 18:48Speaker 2: triggered flooding in the Houston area. It dropped forty inches
- 18:52Speaker 2: of rain in just a few days, making it the
- 18:54Speaker 2: wettest tropical cyclone on record in American history.
- 18:59Speaker 8: Jesus, So that's a lot of rain.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Question for the topic is fishing, and this next great
- 19:05Speaker 2: question is via Bill Dunlap. What's the part of a
- 19:09Speaker 2: phish finder that transmits sonar signals into the water column
- 19:14Speaker 2: and then receives the echoes from those transmissions? Colin has
- 19:20Speaker 2: a loud marker over there?
- 19:22Speaker 9: Is that mine?
- 19:24Speaker 10: No?
- 19:24Speaker 2: With Brody? Yeah, that's Brody?
- 19:27Speaker 1: Wow?
- 19:28Speaker 2: Sorry Colin. What's the part of a phish finder that
- 19:32Speaker 2: transmits sonar signals into the water column and then receives
- 19:37Speaker 2: the echoes from those transmissions?
- 19:39Speaker 9: Who is the fella that sent this in?
- 19:42Speaker 6: Uh?
- 19:42Speaker 2: When I tell you the answer, how's that? What's that
- 19:44Speaker 2: going to inform you?
- 19:45Speaker 9: I just want to know what the guy's name was.
- 19:47Speaker 2: I like the question, Bill Dunlap, Great question, Bill. I
- 19:53Speaker 2: thought maybe there was a hint in there, like you
- 19:56Speaker 2: know the guy at low Rance who you know makes
- 20:00Speaker 2: their stepth finders. It's a great question. There's a great question, Bill,
- 20:05Speaker 2: That's why it's question four. What's the part of a
- 20:08Speaker 2: fish finder that transmits sonar signals into the water column
- 20:12Speaker 2: and then receives the echoes from those transmissions. Is everybody
- 20:16Speaker 2: ready go ahead and reveal your answers. We have seth
- 20:22Speaker 2: saying transducer Chilli, what's that say? Transceiver Randall, transsounder, Colin, transducer,
- 20:30Speaker 2: Marge microphone, notice, transducer, Brody transducer.
- 20:37Speaker 3: He got it.
- 20:37Speaker 2: The correct answer is transducer Randall over there, I think
- 20:42Speaker 2: one for three after riding.
- 20:44Speaker 8: That high.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Still say that ako off.
- 20:53Speaker 4: After question Yeah, now you know what real experienced fish
- 20:58Speaker 4: finder users column don't Yeah?
- 21:01Speaker 2: No sounders okay, yeah. As Yanni pointed out on Randall's
- 21:08Speaker 2: whiteboard for question one, he had the words mister three
- 21:12Speaker 2: eighty on there, but they've disappeared ever since. Ray Marine
- 21:17Speaker 2: says that the transducer is the heart of a sonar system.
- 21:21Speaker 2: The common places to mount a transducer are through the hall,
- 21:25Speaker 2: off the transom, or on the trolling motor. Transom mounted
- 21:29Speaker 2: transducers should always be placed on the right side of
- 21:33Speaker 2: the motor because propellers spin clockwise. If you were to
- 21:36Speaker 2: put it on the left side, the engine would create
- 21:39Speaker 2: a vortex of water around the transducer that would interfere
- 21:42Speaker 2: with the readings. Question five topic is cooking. Great tip.
- 21:47Speaker 3: That's right.
- 21:48Speaker 2: There always needs to go on the right side, otherwise
- 21:50Speaker 2: your motor is going to mess it up.
- 21:52Speaker 6: What if you're on the starboard starboard side?
- 21:56Speaker 2: Question five? The topic is cooking. This is five letter spice,
- 22:02Speaker 2: which McCormick describes as quote earthy and warm with an
- 22:06Speaker 2: edge of citrus, is one of the main ingredients in
- 22:10Speaker 2: chili powder. This is question five. This five letter spice,
- 22:17Speaker 2: which McCormick describes as earthy and warm with an edge
- 22:21Speaker 2: of citrus, is one of the main ingredients in chili powder.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Bro do you have this one? Right? I do brod
- 22:32Speaker 2: your Sathy boys ever bump a transducer when you shouldn't
- 22:36Speaker 2: have and need to replace it?
- 22:38Speaker 4: Not replaced, but definitely like had it at the wrong angle,
- 22:42Speaker 4: not that deep.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, do you ever mess one up real good?
- 22:47Speaker 8: No?
- 22:49Speaker 9: No, not really.
- 22:52Speaker 8: I've had a suction cup before to the back of
- 22:54Speaker 8: my boat and this in suction cup. Yeah, if you're
- 22:58Speaker 8: we do I do that in Alaska? Yeah, when you
- 23:00Speaker 8: want to like take them on and off quick?
- 23:02Speaker 2: Oh, I got you, now, why would you take them
- 23:04Speaker 2: on and off real quick?
- 23:05Speaker 8: Because your boat's always getting beached and stuff?
- 23:09Speaker 2: Again? This is question five. This five letter spice, which
- 23:13Speaker 2: McCormick describes as earthy and warm with an edge of citrus,
- 23:17Speaker 2: is one of the main ingredients in chili powder.
- 23:23Speaker 8: I know guy who not gonna mention his name because
- 23:25Speaker 8: a lot of people here in this room know him,
- 23:28Speaker 8: but Vanella, they've had suction transducers that were suction cupped
- 23:33Speaker 8: to a boat fall off while they're running and it
- 23:36Speaker 8: pulls the whole damn fish finder over more.
- 23:40Speaker 2: That's a fun mistake. Sounds like a Chester thing is
- 23:49Speaker 2: yet to come up with an answer with the five
- 23:51Speaker 2: letters spice that we're looking for. Yanni, you have this
- 23:54Speaker 2: one right, I believe so, Brody, you have this one right, yep.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Does this spice have a place in your cap it
- 24:00Speaker 2: right now?
- 24:00Speaker 6: Does?
- 24:02Speaker 2: Wow? The time? I don't know how you feel about it.
- 24:10Speaker 7: I major award winning chili that most likely had uh
- 24:14Speaker 7: the spice in it, and uh it was good.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Award winning.
- 24:22Speaker 2: M Well you should enter this year, Yanni.
- 24:26Speaker 7: I don't like recipes that have a bunch of stuff
- 24:30Speaker 7: that you didn't make in them. And that's kind of like,
- 24:33Speaker 7: even before I made it and ate it.
- 24:36Speaker 3: I was like that.
- 24:39Speaker 4: Is there cans of stuff that?
- 24:41Speaker 2: Yeah, how on Earth do you live if you're not, like,
- 24:45Speaker 2: you know, cooking with ingredients that you didn't create.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Well, it's a separate recipe.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Uh huh, you know what I mean.
- 24:56Speaker 7: Like those beans already taste like something very manipulated.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Adding I'll tell you this it was. It dominated the
- 25:07Speaker 2: chili comment Listen.
- 25:08Speaker 3: I heard all about it.
- 25:10Speaker 7: I read the article before I made it.
- 25:14Speaker 2: It's everybody ready, go.
- 25:17Speaker 7: Ahead and reveal your answers, saying Cuman.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Chili, says Cuman. Randall, Ancho, Colin.
- 25:26Speaker 6: Little smirk the spencerge.
- 25:28Speaker 2: And be honest and Brody say Cuman. The correct answer.
- 25:34Speaker 2: It's cumin. Randall got it wrong.
- 25:37Speaker 6: It is to lay off.
- 25:45Speaker 2: According to McCormick, Cuman is one of their ten best
- 25:48Speaker 2: selling spices in the United States. It provides depth of
- 25:52Speaker 2: depth to dishes and is a popular ingredient in both
- 25:56Speaker 2: vegetable and meat based recipes. McCormick says it goes best
- 26:00Speaker 2: with time, cinnamon, red pepper flakes, and Regano. Phil, We're
- 26:05Speaker 2: halfway through the game of trivia. Give us a scoreboard.
- 26:07Speaker 6: Chili is staring me down here. I just expect from.
- 26:13Speaker 9: All right, well, tied up in last place, we've got
- 26:17Speaker 9: Maggie and mister three eighty himself. You know, I've never
- 26:22Speaker 9: used this tool before, but I can bring up this
- 26:23Speaker 9: little cursor here and actually like highlight things.
- 26:26Speaker 5: Can we do this like the Champions where the people
- 26:30Speaker 5: in last place just leave halfway?
- 26:32Speaker 2: And is now getting a video and he needs to
- 26:36Speaker 2: remember this day.
- 26:37Speaker 9: Puellus is up next with two Chili and Colin are
- 26:40Speaker 9: tied up with three bro and in first place we've
- 26:44Speaker 9: got Seth and Brody with four points.
- 26:46Speaker 6: Job anybody's game?
- 26:48Speaker 3: No, I think you seriously missed one, Phil.
- 26:51Speaker 9: Okay, Question one was eighty five percent.
- 26:54Speaker 3: You got that one wrong.
- 26:55Speaker 8: Okay.
- 26:55Speaker 9: Number number two was Rage and you did not read
- 26:58Speaker 9: that one wrong. Number three was Texas.
- 27:00Speaker 7: Got that one wrong? Yeah, good job Phil.
- 27:07Speaker 9: Thanks all.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Question six the topic is gear and this next great
- 27:14Speaker 2: question is via Barry Garrett and this is our listener
- 27:17Speaker 2: question of the week. For sending this great question, Barry
- 27:20Speaker 2: is going to get a board game signed by the crew.
- 27:23Speaker 2: If you want a chance to win the Listener Question
- 27:25Speaker 2: of the Week, then send your question to Trivia at
- 27:27Speaker 2: the meadeater dot com. This product, which was originally named
- 27:32Speaker 2: Water Displacement fortieth formula, was created in a San Diego
- 27:37Speaker 2: lab in nineteen fifty three. Wow, Chilly Hilly trying to
- 27:43Speaker 2: intimidate Randall with his quick answer. This product, which was
- 27:48Speaker 2: originally named Water Displacement fortieth Formula, was created in a
- 27:53Speaker 2: San Diego lab in nineteen fifty three. Brody and Seth
- 28:00Speaker 2: and Chili and Randall all very confident. Yanni has now
- 28:04Speaker 2: joined them with an answer. Marge and Colin have yet
- 28:09Speaker 2: to write anything down.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Gear.
- 28:13Speaker 2: This product, which was originally named Water Displacement fortieth Formula,
- 28:18Speaker 2: was created in a San Diego lab in nineteen fifty three.
- 28:22Speaker 2: And this is our listener question of the week that
- 28:24Speaker 2: was won by Garrett Yanni trying to urge Marge to
- 28:34Speaker 2: write down how you feel about this one?
- 28:36Speaker 8: Randall?
- 28:39Speaker 6: Yeah, all right, don't make me tease you next game.
- 28:48Speaker 6: I was a high school bully.
- 28:49Speaker 8: I really.
- 28:52Speaker 2: I think that's a true story. I didn't know rand
- 28:54Speaker 2: in high school, but his wife once said Randall was
- 28:58Speaker 2: a high school bully. Now heard that from two sources, including.
- 29:03Speaker 6: Well, no, but she's heard stories.
- 29:09Speaker 8: Wow.
- 29:15Speaker 2: He was a funny bully with a mullet, right is
- 29:20Speaker 2: everybody ready.
- 29:21Speaker 5: Had a mullet, had a letterman's jacket that said red
- 29:23Speaker 5: on the breast of it.
- 29:25Speaker 2: Buddy, ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 29:30Speaker 2: Seth and Chili and Randall saying w D forty. My God,
- 29:35Speaker 2: Colin says gravity filter, Marge says floating Yannis and Brody
- 29:41Speaker 2: say w D forty. They got it. The correct answer
- 29:44Speaker 2: is w D forty. W D forty was made to
- 29:49Speaker 2: be a rust prevention solvent for the aerospace industry. With
- 29:54Speaker 2: the scientists created it on their fortieth attempt. The product
- 29:58Speaker 2: was so popular that lab staff started smuggling out cans
- 30:02Speaker 2: in their lunch box so that they could use it
- 30:04Speaker 2: at home. The brand blew up in popularity after WD
- 30:08Speaker 2: forty was included in service kits for soldiers during the
- 30:11Speaker 2: Vietnam War. Question seven the topic is conservation. The protagonists
- 30:19Speaker 2: of this nineteen ninety four movie kill one of the
- 30:22Speaker 2: world's rarest owls by shooting it with the cork of
- 30:26Speaker 2: a champagne bottle.
- 30:29Speaker 8: Well, are we looking for the movie or the movie?
- 30:32Speaker 2: Tell me the name of the movie. The protagonists of
- 30:35Speaker 2: this nineteen ninety four movie kill one of the world's
- 30:38Speaker 2: rarest owls by shooting it with the cork of a
- 30:42Speaker 2: champagne bottle ninety four.
- 30:45Speaker 8: Jesus, look n D that's when I was born.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Joanna, you have this one right?
- 30:53Speaker 3: I believe I do.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Bro Do you have this one right?
- 30:56Speaker 3: I think so?
- 30:56Speaker 2: Okay, Randall, you know how these kind of questions.
- 31:01Speaker 7: Mark this day in history because I'm not good at
- 31:03Speaker 7: this category.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Even Brodi. Really this isn't anything with popcorns.
- 31:09Speaker 6: This is conservation. I suppose a rare conservation.
- 31:12Speaker 2: The protagonist of this nineteenth imaginary.
- 31:14Speaker 6: Conservation like Spencer.
- 31:17Speaker 3: It's fun. I'm just not good at it.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Okay, they kill one of the world's rarest owls by
- 31:22Speaker 2: shooting it with the cork of a champagne bottle. Cow,
- 31:27Speaker 2: I'll tell you in the flavor text.
- 31:30Speaker 8: H get out of here.
- 31:34Speaker 2: So now we have a race to see if Randall
- 31:38Speaker 2: can catch up with Chili. Before the end of the beginning,
- 31:41Speaker 2: Chili had a too going into question six.
- 31:47Speaker 8: I just want to let you know, like, this is
- 31:49Speaker 8: for scaring me the other day.
- 31:51Speaker 6: Oh yeah, actually scare Chili?
- 31:53Speaker 2: What did you like tell him you had cancer?
- 31:55Speaker 3: Did you know?
- 31:56Speaker 5: Around the corner I was walking past his door and
- 31:58Speaker 5: I went Chili, and he jumped out of his skin.
- 32:03Speaker 2: Was supposed to be like a Chili's commercial. Is that
- 32:05Speaker 2: what you know?
- 32:06Speaker 6: I'd just like to sing Chili's sort of has a
- 32:09Speaker 6: musical quality to it.
- 32:11Speaker 8: That was Randall, Bully and Chili just on my.
- 32:15Speaker 5: Way to the uh the commercial kitchen to raid the
- 32:18Speaker 5: fridge see if there any tasty beverages that you had.
- 32:23Speaker 6: And then I felt.
- 32:24Speaker 5: Really bad and I apologize to Chili multiple times because wow,
- 32:27Speaker 5: I try to always be kind to Chili.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Y Again, it seems topic is conservation. The protagonists of
- 32:37Speaker 2: this nineteen ninety four movie kill one of the world's
- 32:40Speaker 2: rarest owls by shooting it with the cork of a
- 32:43Speaker 2: champagne bottle. Is everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers?
- 32:49Speaker 2: We have seth without an answer, Chili says a Spentura, Randall, Dummer,
- 32:55Speaker 2: Colin and Marge without an answer. Yanni says dumb and dumber.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Brody says ace Ventura. We have a correct answer in
- 33:05Speaker 2: the room. It's dumb and dumber. Random that and Yanni
- 33:10Speaker 2: got that one right.
- 33:11Speaker 5: Men, you're good at that kind of you guys A
- 33:13Speaker 5: good Jim Carrey in Stick Though.
- 33:16Speaker 2: Harry and Lloyd are attending a benefit for the Icelandic
- 33:20Speaker 2: snow owl when the accident happens, someone at the event
- 33:23Speaker 2: says there are only fourteen of these magnificent birds left
- 33:27Speaker 2: in the world. Although there is no Icelandic snow owl
- 33:30Speaker 2: in real life, there is a snowy owl that exists
- 33:33Speaker 2: across much of the northern Hemisphere. They are a vulnerable
- 33:37Speaker 2: species whose population has decreased by sixty four percent since
- 33:41Speaker 2: the year nineteen seventy. Here is that video of Lloyd
- 33:44Speaker 2: Christmas killing the fictional version of that bird. Play the clip, Phil, This.
- 33:49Speaker 10: Calls for a little of a bubbly You're gonna be
- 33:52Speaker 10: my best man hair? Oh good, I promise you have
- 33:55Speaker 10: just earned yourself a seat at the head table. Bell
- 33:59Speaker 10: aready got to Texas Boy, this party really died.
- 34:15Speaker 9: Again.
- 34:16Speaker 2: That was the fictional Icelandic snow owl that is based
- 34:19Speaker 2: off a real life snowy owl.
- 34:21Speaker 6: Highlight of my day.
- 34:22Speaker 3: Question eight.
- 34:23Speaker 2: The topic is public land and this next great question
- 34:26Speaker 2: is via Justin Faye. The Bureau of Land Management helped
- 34:31Speaker 2: pour the concrete pad at the Four Corners Monument, which
- 34:35Speaker 2: is where these four states meet. The BLM helped pour
- 34:43Speaker 2: the concrete pad at the Four Corners Monument, which is
- 34:46Speaker 2: where these four states meet. Brody and Randall have already
- 34:52Speaker 2: put their whiteboards down. They appear to have this one right,
- 34:57Speaker 2: rest of the room coming up with their answer, except
- 35:00Speaker 2: Chili is yet to put marker to whiteboard.
- 35:03Speaker 6: And I haven't said a thing up until now.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Bln helped pour the concrete pad at the Four Corners Monument,
- 35:13Speaker 2: which is where these four states meet. Sh speaking of
- 35:22Speaker 2: dumb and Dumber. On this week's episode of Media Radio,
- 35:25Speaker 2: which is now a week old by the time you
- 35:27Speaker 2: hear this, we are reviewing The Gray and Randall has
- 35:31Speaker 2: already watched it. Yanni and I have not watched it yet. Phil,
- 35:34Speaker 2: You're gonna watch it right?
- 35:35Speaker 9: I am not watch it yet, though, have you?
- 35:37Speaker 6: Has anyone seen it?
- 35:39Speaker 5: I screened it for the first time last night, I
- 35:44Speaker 5: think one hundred and I looked it up. One hundred
- 35:47Speaker 5: and sixty one f bombs in one hundred and seventeen minutes.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Wow, really, who's keeping track of this?
- 35:53Speaker 6: I looked it up on Wikipedia.
- 35:55Speaker 9: This is a PG thirteen middle of the road, no thriller.
- 35:59Speaker 6: No, there's not a lot of dialogue and quite a
- 36:01Speaker 6: bit of his.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Profane Randall declared that he has four pages of note.
- 36:08Speaker 2: We were thinking it'd be like a ten minute segment.
- 36:11Speaker 6: I've got a yellow pad. I have a lot of thoughts.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Yeah, so the Gray you can go watch it and
- 36:17Speaker 2: then go listen to the last episode of Media to
- 36:20Speaker 2: Radio to hear what me Jannis, phil and Randall had
- 36:25Speaker 2: to think of it.
- 36:25Speaker 5: And I think it's sort of unavoidable that we're going
- 36:27Speaker 5: to have to spoil the movie in the course.
- 36:30Speaker 2: Of yes, yeah, sure, okay, So I think that's a given.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Anyone who hears that is going to have the movie spoiled.
- 36:36Speaker 2: So you should go watch it first, which we declared
- 36:39Speaker 2: where you can watch it on Amazon Prime, and.
- 36:41Speaker 6: Actually it is leaving Amazon Prime. I believe in seven
- 36:45Speaker 6: days this couldn't have been times more. I mean, it's
- 36:49Speaker 6: just unbelievable.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Again, we're on question eight. The BLM helped pour the
- 36:53Speaker 2: concrete pad at the Four Corners Monument, which is where
- 36:57Speaker 2: these states meet. Is everybody ready.
- 37:00Speaker 9: Marche did you not take geography class?
- 37:05Speaker 7: Shut up, Colin, go ahead your answers.
- 37:09Speaker 2: We have seth saying Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Kansas, Chili
- 37:15Speaker 2: without an answer. Randall, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Colin, Colorado, Utah,
- 37:25Speaker 2: New Mexico, Arizona, Marge without an answer, Yanni saying Arizona, Colorado,
- 37:32Speaker 2: New Mexico, Utah, Brody Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah.
- 37:40Speaker 2: The four states that meet at the Four Corners are Arizona, Colorado,
- 37:46Speaker 2: New Mexico, and Utah. I think we had five of you.
- 37:50Speaker 8: I also want to point out that Colin, you didn't
- 37:52Speaker 8: get the WT forty questions.
- 37:55Speaker 3: It was in the question Yeah.
- 37:58Speaker 6: A nasty episode.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Yeah sides. Three sides of the Four Corners Monument are
- 38:05Speaker 2: owned by the Navajo Nation and the fourth side is
- 38:08Speaker 2: owned by the Ute tribe. There has been some controversy
- 38:11Speaker 2: over the monument's location, with states arguing that the initial
- 38:16Speaker 2: land surveys we're off because of the primitive equipment used.
- 38:20Speaker 2: A spokesperson for the NNGS even declared that the actual
- 38:24Speaker 2: Four Corners Monument should be six hundred yards further west
- 38:29Speaker 2: than where it's been placed. But because all four states
- 38:32Speaker 2: accepted the survey markers in eighteen seventy five, then the
- 38:36Speaker 2: boundaries are legally binding and the borders will stay exactly
- 38:39Speaker 2: as they are. Phil we have two questions left. Give
- 38:43Speaker 2: us a scoreboard update. Yeah.
- 38:47Speaker 9: Well, Randall's clawed his way back into the running. He's well,
- 38:51Speaker 9: I'll say, see, Maggie, I'm sorry. At one point you're out.
- 38:55Speaker 9: But Randal and Colin are tied up with four well
- 38:57Speaker 9: as well as Chile.
- 38:58Speaker 8: Sorry Chili.
- 39:01Speaker 9: Seth and Giannis are up next with five and in
- 39:03Speaker 9: first place Berdie Henderson has six points. Jest went on
- 39:05Speaker 9: a little tear there.
- 39:08Speaker 3: Question, that's almost half a mile. That would that would
- 39:14Speaker 3: really help some people out.
- 39:16Speaker 2: Six hundred yards there when they were reached right further.
- 39:21Speaker 7: Yeah, so Arizona would get hosed.
- 39:25Speaker 2: They found that the borders, you know, if you look
- 39:28Speaker 2: at a map, they should be straight. Obviously, they zigzag
- 39:31Speaker 2: quite often in that area. And they found one spot
- 39:33Speaker 2: where it's one point two five miles off that they
- 39:37Speaker 2: just took away from one state gave to the other.
- 39:40Speaker 2: But they said it's legally binding. Nothing will change since
- 39:42Speaker 2: everyone agreed in eighteen seventy five that that's where they are.
- 39:46Speaker 2: Question nine. The topic is cooking. According to the Atlantic,
- 39:51Speaker 2: this is the defunct temperature that most American ovens go
