- 0:00Speaker 1: Well. On the daily Recap, we present Chris Daily, the
- 0:02Speaker 1: Yukon associate head coach. Overall, CD was the coaching staff
- 0:06Speaker 1: satisfy what the afferture team gave.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Well, it's nice to have the opportunity to play, yeah,
- 0:12Speaker 2: and been here before so in the new arena, renovated arena,
- 0:17Speaker 2: and then just against a different opponent. Clearly they were
- 0:19Speaker 2: out matched from a talent physical standpoint, but you know,
- 0:23Speaker 2: we still got a chance to see some different things,
- 0:26Speaker 2: like we turned the ball over a little bit too much.
- 0:28Speaker 2: We're working continue to work on our pressure and it's
- 0:32Speaker 2: just good to see it in a different environment.
- 0:35Speaker 1: You had a bad shooting first half against BC last
- 0:38Speaker 1: week from three point range, two for seventeen, but the
- 0:40Speaker 1: threes were going early on and asy Thud really got
- 0:42Speaker 1: you off on the right phot early, didn't she.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yeah, we're a good shooting team. So we felt like
- 0:47Speaker 2: against BC it was just maybe just an off day
- 0:51Speaker 2: because and I knew it was going to happen because
- 0:53Speaker 2: I watched the warm up and we made every three,
- 0:56Speaker 2: so I kind of called that one. But we're a
- 0:59Speaker 2: good shooting team and that's why the turnovers impact you,
- 1:02Speaker 2: because we want to get a shot at every possession,
- 1:05Speaker 2: and we have a pretty good chance for a shot
- 1:07Speaker 2: fifty percent half of them are going to go in,
- 1:08Speaker 2: so we don't want to give the ball away, but
- 1:10Speaker 2: get open shots for our best shooters. We have a
- 1:13Speaker 2: strong post presence as well, and we have the inside
- 1:17Speaker 2: outside game that I think is going to help us.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Speaking of that strong post presence, get a double double
- 1:22Speaker 1: today from Sarah Strong, But I was really impressed that
- 1:25Speaker 1: all the little things she did on the floor to
- 1:27Speaker 1: make everybody else better.
- 1:29Speaker 2: She's been that way since she walked on campus. I
- 1:31Speaker 2: think she's a threat to have a triple double every night.
- 1:35Speaker 2: She's unselfish, she can get shots. She's shooting the three.
- 1:40Speaker 2: In fact, today I thought she missed more shots than
- 1:43Speaker 2: I've seen or miss You know, it's almost unusual to
- 1:45Speaker 2: have her miss as many as she.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Did, four for eleven, a thirty six to zero run
- 1:51Speaker 1: late first half, second half. Anytime you get a long
- 1:55Speaker 1: run like that, it starts with a defense. What did
- 1:57Speaker 1: you like about the way the defense played this afternoon?
- 2:00Speaker 2: Well, you know, we were able to put a lot
- 2:02Speaker 2: of pressure on them, and again, as I said, they
- 2:04Speaker 2: were overmatched, but we did a good job getting in
- 2:06Speaker 2: the passing lanes and we're still learning, you know, how
- 2:10Speaker 2: we want to do the pressure and what it has
- 2:11Speaker 2: to look like and who goes where. So that was helpful,
- 2:14Speaker 2: just the aggressiveness, like we really have to stay aggressive
- 2:17Speaker 2: if we're going to press.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Southern's first hope of the game was a layup, and
- 2:21Speaker 1: it almost seemed like their game plan today as that
- 2:24Speaker 1: I think will be all year long is get the
- 2:26Speaker 1: ball inside. So they kind of made you work in
- 2:29Speaker 1: the lane a little bit defensively early on.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought against Boston College we did not do
- 2:36Speaker 2: a great job of keeping people in front of us,
- 2:38Speaker 2: and so we've worked a lot on that and that's
- 2:40Speaker 2: one of the things I think it's going to be
- 2:41Speaker 2: a point of emphasis for us throughout the years, just
- 2:44Speaker 2: to keep people out of the lane, you know, don't
- 2:48Speaker 2: don't give them opportunities to go bias and then make
- 2:51Speaker 2: have dumb fouls. You know, you don't want dumb fouls.
- 2:53Speaker 2: And then we have enough, you know, I think we
- 2:55Speaker 2: have enough size that we should be able to battle
- 2:57Speaker 2: post players and trying to keep them out of lane
- 3:00Speaker 2: and get them off the spot that they want and
- 3:03Speaker 2: just really make them score over us. And then box
- 3:05Speaker 2: out and run the floor.
- 3:06Speaker 1: So, Chris, you've got a little over a week now
- 3:08Speaker 1: before the opener against Louisville down at the Naval Academy.
- 3:12Speaker 1: What goes on the blackboard? What are the coaching staff's
- 3:15Speaker 1: priorities as far as what you've got to clean up
- 3:18Speaker 1: fix up before the regular season begins.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Well, there's a lot, because there's a lot we haven't
- 3:23Speaker 2: put in yet. You know, we haven't worked on a
- 3:25Speaker 2: lot of things defensively. That's why you know, when you
- 3:28Speaker 2: come into these games, you want to do the things
- 3:30Speaker 2: that you have practiced and spend a lot of time on.
- 3:33Speaker 2: You want to do those well. And we did that
- 3:35Speaker 2: for the most part, and now we have to build
- 3:37Speaker 2: on that, add some things to be more ready next Tuesday.
- 3:42Speaker 2: We're not going to be ready in November fourth to
- 3:45Speaker 2: play a good team like Louisville, but hopefully they're not
- 3:48Speaker 2: as ready as they're going to be down the road
- 3:50Speaker 2: as well. Either.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Great analysis as always
