- 0:00My name is Jeff Markin and I'm the creator and co-producer of the Pop Culture Junkie podcast.
- 0:04In the recording of this episode, we found ourselves working with new equipment for the first time
- 0:10without having had the opportunity to test it, and the result was that the sound quality of this
- 0:15episode isn't up to the standards that we set for ourselves on Pop Culture Junkie. My first
- 0:20inclination was to scrap it and start over, but the fact is there was some really good conversation
- 0:25in this episode, so we decided it should be released anyway. I hope the inferior sound doesn't
- 0:30detract too much from your enjoyment of this episode, and we will strive to do better in the future.

- 1:03Hello everybody, welcome back to another episode of Pop Culture Junkie podcast. My name is Shauna
- 1:09and I am joined, as always, by my fellow junkies. Nicole and Olivia, it is so nice to see you guys,
- 1:18especially now that we're in person. I'm really enjoying looking deeply into your eyes while we speak
- 1:25intubitly. I know, I've been meaning to talk to you about that, it's getting a little inappropriate.
- 1:30Just accept it. Thank you. Just accept a shhh. No words. No words just feelings. Just feeling.
- 1:37And that's Patreon X with Pop. Let it happen. Open your body to the experience.
- 1:44That's why I'm sitting in the middle of the chat.
- 1:46Just make this the pop-up respectful attention. She's been barred on either side, she likes it.
- 1:56All right, so that just about wraps up. No. Okay, so I've been consuming a lot of media this week,
- 2:04been watching a lot of shows. I want to know what you guys have been reading, watching, listening to
- 2:10this week who wants to start us off with their pop culture consumptions. That was terrible and I'm
- 2:18so sorry. I'll never say that again. Consumptions. I look good. What do you think, too? Oh, okay, I'll go.
- 2:24Mon order SVU and Organized Crime has come back. Yeah. I'm super excited because as we know,
- 2:34I am a junkie for those shows. Shout out to Haley the Braves. Yes. I'm a certain I'm
- 2:39mistalking to her about those. But that's what I've been consuming lately. And The Real Housewives
- 2:46of Everybody Hills where Union has started. So I have been consuming that as well. It is going to be
- 2:51super duper juicy. I'm very excited to continue watching that. It's a three part and part one has
- 2:56just come out. But on our SVU, the season, the first episode of the new season started with this
- 3:03girl being kidnapped. And it kind of is a continuation throughout the season with other cases being
- 3:10presented to SVU. That's like the old row. Serial rape. Yes. No. So it's just like the one girl,
- 3:18her name I believe her name is Maddie. She's just like the main case of the season. But within that
- 3:24other cases are being presented randomly throughout the city of New York. But crimes most heinous. Yes.
- 3:30Yes. Yeah. Interesting. Maddie has been the main person throughout the season, which they really
- 3:37haven't ever done. I don't think. Correct me if I'm wrong. But viewers. With like one case is kind of
- 3:44goes through. Yeah. That was going to be my question. I was like, do they do that? No, I thought it was always
- 3:49like a criminal mind style. Like enemy of the week or whatever. Yeah. That one episode is like one case.
- 3:56So I kind of like that whole farks. It's kind of one of those shows that's been on forever. So it's
- 4:00kind of like what something new that you can do this week. I like that. That reminds me of like
- 4:05Lucifer where there is like a crime of the week because he's helping the police force, right?
- 4:12So every week there is a new bad guy that Lucifer has to help the police force catch. But there's one
- 4:18overarching big bad throughout the whole season, which is kind of like Buffy too, right? Like every
- 4:23episode is like a minor demon. But then there's the main. Yeah. I like that. I like that. That's all great.
- 4:30That's all great. But, Savler and Benson. Yeah. Are they are they going to they have it?
- 4:38They haven't. They haven't really seen each other yet. What? So not yet. She's been really focused on
- 4:46this one case because the Maddie girl she's seen her in a van and she saw her and she thought that
- 4:53she looked a little distraught but she didn't really do anything about it. And then later that day she
- 4:57realized that Maddie was a girl gone missing and Olivia's really beating herself up over it. But
- 5:04good for her. She's focusing on the job. She's taking care of the innocent. But I want my girl to get
- 5:11some my girl. I've never seen an episode of this show. But I just love the support of Olivia. We
- 5:16all love Olivia Benson and Stable or Michael Staley. I just wrote the first day. I want them to at
- 5:24least smooch. They will eventually. They haven't they already know they've like touched hands. They've
- 5:31like graced you. I definitely heard that. Really earlier in a season. Yeah. I'd have. Yeah. But not
- 5:38recently. Okay. Not anything that like stunts. She's come back. Okay. Maybe I'm like Mandela
- 5:45if I think but I thought they already had. I think very early on in this series when he was on
- 5:50on the line. Okay. So like 15 years ago or something. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. That's what I'm thinking. Yeah.
- 5:56Okay. I need them to do it. On camera. It's it's it's with like an NBC show. So it'll just be
- 6:05like a fade to box. Which is like the sheet over it. We're like she wakes up and she's stealing her
- 6:12bra for some reason. I'm like, oh fucks in the bra. He's got a collared shirt on. They're like,
- 6:19well that shirt was delightful. The lead button to the top. That he's like one and one. He's
- 6:27all. Yeah. That's right. He's well. Sure. Hair is perfect. Well that shirt was delightful.
- 6:33Stay plowing. Oh, that was great. Because everyone's gonna hate me.
- 6:36Here. When we were on Chana's birthday trip. She talked like that the entire time.
- 6:44Well, you know, I think we should get out of Chana's a la. Can't come on. Come on.
- 6:50Chana's blackout. Yes. The entire weekend. You loved it. Sure. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Okay.
- 7:02So okay, we'll keep us updated in when they blink or kiss or touch pinkies. Yeah. That's all
- 7:07Chana cares about. Yes. We'll have to figure out the old episode so it can hold you over.
- 7:14Where you watch like YouTube clips of Jess and like kissing. Oh, I've watched YouTube clips. I
- 7:23don't watch any. I don't watch euphoria. But I've seen YouTube compilations of the...
- 7:28Oh, Jess the sexiest. The hottest scenes of euphoria. 2021. Oh yeah.
- 7:34I'm actually my search history. My search history. Fault. Yeah. Like if the FBI comes like if I ever
- 7:41randomly get a fuse of a crime, I'm like, do you ever think about that whenever you google search
- 7:46something? You're like, that's going in the like, she's a killer. You know, and it's mainly like,
- 7:52if someone loses a hand, will they live without like getting medical help? How many bullets you're
- 7:57lying torso to? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Just out of curiosity. But like it does, it like stacked up
- 8:03over time. I think it might be confusing. Oh my god. Win Jessica, my friend that I talk about all
- 8:09the time on the podcast, and I were in college and we were roommates. We would get bored and feel
- 8:13bad about ourselves. And I'm so sorry listeners. God, this is so fucked. We would google parasitic twins
- 8:19and just like look at pictures and research parasitic twins together and read it out loud and just
- 8:24be like, it would make us feel so thankful that we didn't have a parasitic twin. That's so dark.
- 8:31That's so dark. Yeah. It's like the late, my big fat Greek wedding. She's like, they opened up
- 8:37the tumor on my head and it was my twin. It's not the moment that spurred it. Kind of. Or you're like,
- 8:45oh my god. Is that a thing? Is that a thing? And then we got really into it. Like, oh my god,
- 8:50that's it. Okay. Okay. Blame my big fat Greek. Oh god. There was this horror movie that came out
- 8:55last year or two years ago or something. Oh my god. The whole, oh my god. The backwards run in that movie.
- 9:04It's like the funniest thing I've ever seen. And I swear to god because we google parasitic twins so much,
- 9:09I knew it was coming. Yeah. And so we're watching this movie and my husband's like, I don't know what's
- 9:14going on. I said, I bet you will million fucking dollars. She's got a parasitic twin. And he's like,
- 9:18what even is that? Well, sir. Well, watch the power of the presentation. I was made a call.
- 9:26Well, actually, I got my minor in parasitic twin. And by the end of us, I was like, I told you,
- 9:32I told you was a parasitic. Um, no. So, Felipe, my friend Felipe and I used to watch that together.
- 9:39And for like a solid six months, I would just run it in the backwards guy and my post on Instagram
- 9:46on pop culture junkies. Um, so you can see it. It's one of the funniest scenes of cinema ever. So
- 9:52unintentionally, it's supposed to be like the scariest part of the movie, but the way that the thing
- 9:57is running because it's like the parasitic twit is in the back of the house. Spoiler, yeah.
- 10:02Spoiler. I mean, it's, you don't want to watch it. So I loved that movie. Uh, because of the maze.
- 10:09You like a parasitic twin. I mean, like your mother put in the comments of your parasitic twit. I'm not even
- 10:14getting like, please. Um, no, but um, yeah, yeah, we'll move on from that one. So we don't get cancelled.
- 10:26Um, so I don't know if either of you have watched this, but if you seen the reset teaser, who the F did I
- 10:36marry series on TikTok? Okay, I've heard of it, but I have not watched it. Okay. Okay. So it is
- 10:44a 55 part series on TikTok. Um, this woman is an incredible storyteller, though, and like you feel
- 10:52like you're like hearing the craziest story you've ever heard from like your best friend. So it is like
- 10:58even though it is like, it's collectively like eight hours. I would recommend if you watch it,
- 11:04you watch it on two X-speed. So it's more like four hours. Like, um, but uh, I'll basically give you
- 11:10an option of what happened. So this woman, um, she's, it's called who the F did I marry and she starts
- 11:18it and she's basically like, I want to tell this story for anyone, um, who has been through similar
- 11:25situation is with someone who's similar to this person and like just warn you and advise you.
- 11:32And she starts it off with this kind of warning and you're like, okay, what do you mean? And she's like,
- 11:37this is the story of how I may I ended up marrying like an absolute pathological liar. So, yeah,
- 11:43it's like a liar, but like one of the craziest lying stories I've ever heard in my entire life.
- 11:50And so this woman meets this man. It's like March, March 1st, 2020, and they meet on a dating app.
- 11:58And then yeah, so right before shutdown. So like take yourself back to March 20th.
- 12:05Like right before I like we're like, oh, okay, this thing called COVID exists. Like what's going to happen.
- 12:11And so they set up a date at the cheesecake factory and they're going to the cheesecake factory.
- 12:17And she's on the way there. They live in Atlanta and her tire blows. And so her tire blows and she's
- 12:24like, hey, like I'm not going to make it to this date or whatever. And he's like, where are you? I'll come
- 12:28and help you. Like helps her change the tire. Um, takes her to like get the donut replaced and buys her
- 12:35tire. Okay. And so they're like on this first date, he's basically like, yeah, I want I'm looking for
- 12:41marriage. I'm like a district manager. I just moved here. So far. So I'm good. Yeah. But really nice
- 12:47guy. Really shiver all a shiver breath. And so like she's like, okay, this guy's like successful. He
- 12:56just moved here. All this stuff. He says that he has a ex wife and two step children. Okay. But like,
- 13:06he's still in their life because like he really cares about them. So far, he's giving green flag.
- 13:10Yeah, he's giving like, I'm the best person ever. I'm really successful. I have a lot of money. And
- 13:16so basically what happens is this crazy freaking story about COVID happening. And they're like,
- 13:24oh, how do we start quarantining together? And they're like, oh, well, that's going to be like two
- 13:29weeks. So we'll just like stay at my place. And he comes into my house. Do you remember that? I was
- 13:33going to be two weeks. Yeah. Exactly. And so it's like, oh, well, quarantine at my place is going to be
- 13:37two weeks. And then like two weeks turns into a month because of COVID. And so all this stuff starts
- 13:42happening. And he's like, yeah, I want to buy house. And in there, like he's like kind of look at
- 13:48houses, starts trying to buy one. And so in this process, she ends up getting pregnant. And this crazy
- 13:57freaking succession of this guy, like taking her to buy a house, he's trying to like buy her a car.
- 14:04And she thinks she's being like swept off of her feet. Okay. They're buying a house. So they're buying
- 14:09appliances. Like, you're putting like all these deposits on furniture. All the all of this stuff.
- 14:15And so basically she ends up they're trying to buy this house. And he is like telling her, oh,
- 14:23I put in an all cash offer on like a $700,000 home. We're like going under everything. And like,
- 14:29I'm about to close on this house. And she looks at the zillow listing. And it ends up being that
- 14:36the house sold. And she's like, well, I don't think that the house sold. So she like calls this
- 14:41realtor pretending to be someone else. Yeah. And she's like, no, we sold her to like this elderly
- 14:46couple blah blah. And like it starts this absolute rapid succession of her like finding out this man
- 14:54lied about every single thing. Like to the point where he tell me that he cut her tire for her.
- 15:00No, that would be absolutely. I don't pound out.
- 15:06But really? So that's like, oh, God, salt burns shit. Yeah. Yeah. Literally like salt. No. So it like
- 15:14they're like she's like telling the story. And again, it's like a really long story. And it's
- 15:17and it's very like, oh, you could see how someone could fall for all these lines. I'm
- 15:22so smizing it very greatly. But so she ends up like finding out like he would be on the phone with
- 15:28his family for like hours in the morning and having these like back and forth conversations.
- 15:33She would find out that he was not on the phone with anyone and every single morning he would be
- 15:39talking to no one and having these back and forth conversations. He ended up saying that the
- 15:45step children died from COVID. And like had her give him all this money to like help pay for the funeral.
- 15:53And all of this stuff. And it's like an absolute crazy story. But that was my big one. And although
- 16:00like a eight hour TikTok series sounds like a lot, it really if you watch like at the sped up version,
- 16:05it's like four hours. But it is some of the craziest story telling. And it was so good. And I watched it.
- 16:13She got out. She's good now. Yeah. They're divorced now. And like there's a lot of parts in the story.
- 16:18But like he was going to take her to Europe. And like she ended up being able to pay for this
- 16:24Europe trip that she was supposed to go on because they're all 10 minute videos. And each video
- 16:29has like two million. Oh my god. I definitely saw that. I was running on like waski or something. And I just
- 16:35yeah, it's absolutely crazy. And then so some random girl took it upon herself to he just she
- 16:42doesn't say the name of this person at all. She calls them Legion. And and some random girl decided to
- 16:48expose to the internet. Out of them. Out of this man. No. And they're like literally like this is
- 16:54dangerous for me. Yeah. This guy is crazy. Yeah. I guess that's just like a history of like he's been
- 17:00to jail and like all the shit comes out or whatever. And so she shouldn't expose him. But if somebody
- 17:06else does, well, no, not even that like now she's unsafe. So it's like, okay, like she didn't give
- 17:12names for a reason. Like don't go expose someone for that. But now he has come into the picture.
- 17:18And what's funny is so like at the time it was like nine days after this video came out, the person
- 17:26exposed him. And he was like, I've been recording with Netflix for the last like 16 days to tell my
- 17:32story. Because she's lying. And we're like, the internet did not know. Like 10 days ago, you couldn't
- 17:39have been with Netflix 16 days ago. So yeah, I would highly recommend it's worth it. KJUSE. Yeah. Very,
- 17:46very worth it. But good for her. Good for her. Oh, man. The stuff I've been watching is very not like that.
- 17:56I mentioned last week, I believe that I we started the live action Avatar The Last Airbender show.
- 18:05My husband, I it's really good. I mean, it's not the animated series is an incredible anime. It is
- 18:14so beloved by fans and people hold it so close to them that it's like an any anime live action
- 18:21adaptation is going to be full of controversy. I really like some of them have done a really good
- 18:26job. I really loved the one piece live action adaptation. I felt they did a really good job. And then
- 18:33there's other ones like the original Avatar The Last Airbender movie by Imnight Shyamalan, which was
- 18:41crazy pand and just awful and like the Dragon Ball Z live action movie, which is just
- 18:46it's embarrassing for anime fans, right? So this one, I think they're doing a really good job. They've
- 18:53stayed very close to the source material. They've also cast in all Asian cast, which is amazing.
- 18:59I hate it when you watch an anime adaptation and it's a bunch of fucking white people like
- 19:03Scarlett Johansson and Ghost of the Shell. No, that's not it. Sorry. The original characters Japanese.
- 19:10So we've really been enjoying that. I would say it's you know perfect, but it's the I think the best
- 19:17adaptation that we've gotten so far of the live action or of the original anime. And then Bleach
- 19:22Thousand Year Blood War, this is the one that I told you guys about last week where it's been like
- 19:27a 10-year gap between the last episode. So we've been watching a lot more of that and this is
- 19:33fucking nuts. This anime is going so hard. The animation is so violent and over the top in detail.
- 19:40And I just kill Bill Esk. Oh my god, they're like melting people's skin off of their bones and just
- 19:48over the top every episode will finish it. And we realize it's because we've spent so long
- 19:56with these characters and we've already watched hundreds of episodes of Bleach that you get to know
- 20:02these characters. And now we're in this new season and I guess spoilers for anime fans listening.
- 20:08They kill off like main characters that we've liked for 400-500 episodes. And all of a sudden we're
- 20:17at the end of it and we're like, did he just fucking die? Did they just kill him? Like,
- 20:22is that like a story where like it's going to be like the walking dead where like
- 20:29Glendstad but like he comes back and then they kill him again. No, no, I know what you mean. A lot of
- 20:36anime shows do that where it's like a lot of shows. Oh my god, you skate, die, just kidding. He's back.
- 20:44Especially if it's the main character. Like in Dragon Ball Z, Goku dies a million times but he's
- 20:49always wished back with the Dragon Balls. This one it seems like this is kind of the swan song for
- 20:55the anime. So when they kill off like certain characters, it does seem like that. It holds more kind of
- 21:03gravitas to it. Yeah, I always feel like if it's the death not worthy of a main character, like it's
- 21:10not like super dramatic, they're gonna come back. Exactly. Yeah. And I mean, you can tell like is the
- 21:16series, especially if it's an anime and it's the same with like comic books a lot too or in
- 21:23different iterations in different universes. Certain characters die but oh and the parallel universe,
- 21:28they're still alive. Kind of like Gamora coming back from Guardians of the Galaxy to be in the
- 21:33third movie. It's oh it's past Gamora and she's still alive and we yanked her. But yeah, it's like
- 21:40multiverse. Yeah. This one it seems like we're actually dead. So we've been really enjoying that.
- 21:48And then totally different for me to her of those. We've been watching next level chef.
- 21:54Yeah, those are jump. I know. I am a nuanced woman. Yeah, I have a layer like an ogre in an onion.
- 22:04I'm an onion. I'm an onion. I have a lion. I'm making waffles. And the more that I'm making waffles.
- 22:09So next level chef is amazing. Gordon Ramsay. I don't know if you guys have ever watched that.
- 22:14I've never heard of him. Do it. It's so good. It's so good. Score Ramsay. And there's like three levels.
- 22:21If they suck, both stop me. Funnabee right next to me. You didn't hear what she said. No. I said I've never
- 22:28heard of him. Who Gordon Ramsay. Yeah. Oh shut the fuck up. Yeah.
- 22:31So he says real angry British guy. Is that his angry as he used to be? Yeah, he's kind of
- 22:40he's getting old. I guess like he doesn't say fuck as much. He isn't calling you an idiot sandwich.
- 22:47That is iconic. Literally. He's very patient. Okay. Describe the levels. I said like there's the
- 22:56basement level where they get like shit cooking supplies. Okay. And then the mid level which is like a
- 23:02basic kitchen and then the top level is like a five star Michelin kitchen. And each week the teams move
- 23:08between the different levels of the heat. Do you have to like win a challenge? Yes. Okay. You win the
- 23:14challenge. Yes. Yes. Yes. You go up on the elevator. Yes. You do good. She go up on the elevator.
- 23:23You can go down. Isn't the elevator that does it for you? No. You have to earn the elevator right now.
- 23:29I don't. I don't. You earn the elevator ride during the your challenges. If you do good,
- 23:37you get to move up to the next level. You do bad. You have to cook in the basement. Sometimes the
- 23:42power goes out. Sometimes you don't have a spatula because it's been melted in a serious fire.
- 23:48Oh. They give you it looks like the producers went to like goodwill and bought like cooking supplies
- 23:54back to the basement. Okay. They have to make your way out of the basement. Next show sounds like
- 23:58a good show. They might be being held against their will. So I'm watching this show about a group of
- 24:06people trapped in a basement by Gordon Ramsay. So maybe he has like a different type of bad.
- 24:13You're in Ramsay tight. Wait. Wait. Just passive aggressively. Being mean to people. He's really polite to them.
- 24:20Maybe this is a fan effect that I'm watching. Yeah. So what in the watt pad? Oh my god. I bet you
- 24:29anything there's Gordon Ramsay fanfic out there though. We should read one. Okay. Okay. New
- 24:35episode idea. We're going to read Gordon Ramsay fanfic. Oh yes. Okay. But we have to do it every
- 24:40hour. Stay tuned. Okay.
- 24:41So there's this trope in movies that I've been enjoying a lot lately called Good for Her. I saw a
- 24:53meme from arrested development and it's Lucille Bluth and I kind of just send it to my friends and
- 25:00stuff when it's like woman goes crazy and stabs ex-boyfriend and then we'll jokingly send each other
- 25:05memes that are like good for her. Or woman gets revenge on cheating husband who stole dog.
- 25:11Good for her. Sometimes a little morally ambiguous. So this week we're going into a deep dive of what
- 25:20good for her kind of means in films. So it's not really recognized as a movie genre in a traditional
- 25:26sense is more of a colloquial phrase that actually originated from the movie Showgirls where one girl
- 25:34hurts herself and is being carted away from the strip club and one of her co-workers goes good for her
- 25:40because she made it out of the strip club job I guess. Over time it's been used in various contexts
- 25:45to kind of celebrate female characters who take control of their own destinies. They exact revenge
- 25:51against those who have wronged them. Sometimes through bloodshed, sometimes through just mind tricks.
- 25:57They often defy societal norms, expectations leading to their own
- 26:02empower making liberation of some form. They might not constitute a specific genre but a lot of them
- 26:09are kind of thrillers or movies. They are comedies like we're going to talk about a little bit.
- 26:14Examples that the audience might kind of know of when we say things like good for her films are
- 26:19film in Louise or Gone Girl, Promising Young Woman. So I want to talk about good for her films that
- 26:28we've all been watching and why we are happy before said her. So who wants to start us off?
- 26:37Yeah, I'll start with whenever I think of the good for her genre and I would probably say like
- 26:45especially when I think of good for her I think of like hard thriller kind of like revenge.
- 26:54So I don't know what that says about me. I mean same. Like there are doing things that are kind of
- 26:59morally questionable. Yeah, I love a morally gray man or woman. Yeah, we do not judge here.
- 27:06But I do think about the movie Hard Candy and so Hard Candy is a movie directed by David Slade
- 27:14and it has Elliot Page in it and I can not remember the other guy's name. He's also in Sidious.
- 27:22He's the guy from Insidious. Yeah, whatever is the name of him. But basically so the plot of the
- 27:28movie kind of a little synopsis on it is it's a psychological thriller that follows a 14 year old girl
- 27:35named Haley Stark who made said 32 year old photographer and she actually suspects him to be a
- 27:43pedophile and so she goes into this story kind of like thinking that he is a creep and is trying to
- 27:53essentially catch him and like trying to hook up with a 14 year old girl. And also Patrick Wilson is
- 28:00the Hottie Kott. Patrick Wilson. Yes, yes. So he is I don't know if he'd say Hottie met Kott hot
- 28:0632 year old. Okay, well not in his tale. After himself. Yes, he's actually a Hottie met Kott. His
- 28:11character is a creepy make creep. Yeah, creepy make creep. And yes, so I'm not this movie is one of the
- 28:22most just like disturbing thriller movies I probably ever seen super fucking. It's stuck with me.
- 28:30It's amazing. So long. But basically so I'm you know I just gave you the synopsis we're gonna you
- 28:37can obviously infer the details there but there is a scene in this movie where she thinks he's a
- 28:43pedophile and so what she does is she like ties this man up and puts them to a table and she convinces
- 28:53him that she is going to castrate him and it's like basically it pulls up a YouTube video of like
- 29:00what she's about to do to him and she like numbs his balls. Yeah, and so he can't feel anything. But she
- 29:07makes it look him think that he's a spoiler for hard candy. Yeah, five days. It's came out in 2000.
- 29:14So you know she projects like the YouTube video to him. So it's like it makes it look like this is a
- 29:20live view of what's happening to him. She numbs his balls. So he thinks he's watching his. Yeah, he thinks
- 29:26he's watching it and she numbs his balls. So she doesn't actually cut them off. No. But she made some
- 29:33things that she castrated on. And it is like you think in the moment like she is about to do that.
- 29:40And it's just like one of the like craziest parts of cinema I've ever seen. It's incredible. And she
- 29:47does amazing in it. He is the 14 year old girl in the movie and you know what just says like
- 29:54it I think it really encapsulates like a lot of good for her comes with this insane trauma of like
- 30:02this moment like happen to them. So they're reacting and moving into like this is a good for her
- 30:10reaction. Yeah, well a lot of crazy stuff happened to this woman and so she's kind of reacting in this
- 30:17way. A lot of them are kind of based around revenge. Like something has happened to them physically. I
- 30:23mean sure to warning for this episode like sexual assault is involved in a lot of these good for her
- 30:27scenarios or emotionally she's been cheated on. She's been wronged in some way and she's getting her
- 30:34fucking revenge against people who are wronged during. Yeah, sometimes it's a little morally gray. Yeah,
- 30:40yeah, absolutely. Love that. I love her candy. That was one of the first things I watched with my
- 30:45husband. We first started dating and I'm not sure what that says about. I know a lot of teeth. A lot of
- 30:51teeth. Yeah, for LA page to go from my genome to hard case. Yeah, such a like hard left turn.
- 30:58It's just a great act. Yeah, like that whole filmography has been A plus. Yeah. Yeah.
- 31:05Nicole yours are totally different than that. And I love it. I love it. We're covering the entire
- 31:12arc of good. Yes. My first one is John Tucker must die. I love that movie. I do too. Britney Snow.
- 31:20A shanty. A shanty. Oh my god. It's like that dream I had with Nicole and a shanty. Oh yeah.
- 31:27Yeah, were you guys hosted Peloton together? It was four and a half. I love that. Oh my god. I had a
- 31:32dream that Nicole was a Peloton instructor and a shanty and they're both ripped out of their minds.
- 31:37Six packs. It was so good. It wasn't a dream. It wasn't a dream. It's a wet dream.
- 31:46It was leading up to this note. Yes, it was. Anyways, my one movie is John Tucker must die.
- 31:52Has Jesse Metcalfe who plays John Tucker himself. So a lot. Britney Snow who plays Kate.
- 31:58A shanty who plays Heather. Ariel Kebble. Yeah, that was her name. I was wondering who plays Kerry
- 32:06and Sophia Bush who plays Beth. That's right. And then Jenna. Jenny McCarthy is the mom. Jenny McCarthy
- 32:12plays Mary. Kate's mom. Yeah. And basically the backstory of John Tucker must die is three girls.
- 32:19Everyone but Kate. It's just easier to say that way. All are dating John Tucker, but none of them know
- 32:25that they're dating John Tucker because he's in his basketball season and the story that he tells
- 32:29these girls is that it's basketball season. My dad tells me that I can't have a girlfriend, but
- 32:34you make it an exception that I can have a girlfriend. You're a bad girl. And Kate is keeping
- 32:40a secret. Exactly. And Kate's a server at a restaurant and John brings every single girl that
- 32:45he's dating to the same restaurant and Kate's a server to every single date. And I'm like,
- 32:50John, you don't realize that this girl is the same server and she's not going to snitch on you.
- 32:54When I worked at my last bar job, there was a guy there who's a regular.
- 32:58Who would bring her to three girls? Yes. And I was always like, they would leave and I'd see him
- 33:03the next day and I'd be like, so how is that? He's like, you know, you know, you know, you slide dog.
- 33:13Yeah. Then the girls, they all get detention together and they all realize that Kate kind of
- 33:21makes it known that John is dating all three of these girls at the same time. They all get mad.
- 33:27They all make a pact to kind of basically say that John Tucker must die and they do all these things
- 33:34to make him embarrassed, get him to kind of... The give him an estrogen.
- 33:39Oh, himself, yes. And they say that he has an STD. This movie made me to be a server problem guy.
- 33:46Yes. In hindsight. They make him wear a thong. Yes, but then all the backfires and then because all the
- 33:52girls are like, "John, that was so humble of you to do that." So in a way, it kind of backfired on them,
- 34:00but honestly, good for all of them. They wanted to outacheeing man with, yes, queen.
- 34:07Yeah. That made me the only situation where we will actually say in real life good for her.
- 34:14Yeah. That is true. In a lot of these, like, it's my reset Tisa. Yeah. In a lot of these, if one of us
- 34:22was doing this, we would go, "Oh my God, girl, you need to maybe don't murder anyone else."
- 34:27Yes. Maybe that body that you're hanging on a meat hook.
- 34:30Take it down. We got to call the police.
- 34:33Got to call the police. This one, I think we could all be on board for this.
- 34:38This is okay. This is okay. Yeah. Oh, I'll accept it.
- 34:41Oh, accept it.
- 34:42You know. No, I love that movie. I remember liking it a lot of the teenager in Jesse Metcalfe.
- 34:47So, bye, yeah. Yeah. Jesse still do it for you or did he just do it for you?
- 34:53No. I don't know what he looks like now. I mean, he still kind of looks like him, but like, Puffier.
- 34:57I mean, isn't that all of us?
- 34:59Isn't that being a new 30s and 40s? Yeah. He's still pretty cute.
- 35:05But you're a little puppy. I mean, he's still kind of cute.
- 35:08Yeah. Oh, wait, still. Are you kidding me?
- 35:11Can we see him? He's in like, that's a, yeah.
- 35:13I think that's a, that's a face-tuned image. Yeah, that looks a little, um, I think I am DB picks.
- 35:19Yeah. So face-tune. I mean, my IMDB picks are pretty face-tune.
- 35:23No, I would still probably do him.
- 35:28Yeah. I mean, we'll follow up after the podcast.
- 35:30Catch on in your next home mark movie. He's like, oh my god.
- 35:33He's a puppy, but of course he is.
- 35:34I was, if I could pick any Jesse Metcalfe, I think I would pick Jesuit Housewives Jesse Metcalfe.
- 35:41And he's like the little boy or something.
- 35:44Yeah, he's the long guy and he is 16.
- 35:46So I realized I probably don't know how that is, but now, but
- 35:49here the science coming along. He was like 24 and maybe a couple of minutes.
- 35:53Oh, his character is like 16 in it.
- 35:56So my god, yeah, this is probably like that.
- 35:58We're going to have whatever my husband or, well, what good for him?
- 36:01My husband, I'll watch things and then we'll like both pause it and be like,
- 36:05we need to Google how all these people are.
- 36:09Thank God. Okay. We're not the other you guys.
- 36:12You watch you for it and you're like, okay, we're all 25.
- 36:16I know, but it still makes me go.
- 36:18And you're just, yeah, when you're watching your sex app.
- 36:20And you're just, yeah, maybe that makes it harder.
- 36:24Oh my god, I need to make sure that this is, I'm not going to, I'm already going to hell.
- 36:28I don't need to be in one of the lower levels.
- 36:30Or have some memory.
- 36:32It's like a next chef hell.
- 36:35Like some chef out.
- 36:37Are you going to be at which level?
- 36:39Where are you?
- 36:40You got to just the elevator.
- 36:41Were you just calling to the fucking slide?
- 36:45Were you looking at underage girls?
- 36:48Gordon, please, I was just your next level low key alcoholic.
- 36:55Put me in limbo.
- 36:58That's the middle kitchen.
- 37:01Oh, the middle kitchen limbo.
- 37:03Yeah, you're just bored.
- 37:05You're just bored.
- 37:05You're going to do anything that bad.
- 37:07Yeah, try that one drug once.
- 37:10Yeah.
- 37:11Anyway, sorry mom.
- 37:13Sorry mom.
- 37:13She's not listening.
- 37:17It's fine.
- 37:18Anyway, speaking of dead people, my next movie is called American Mary.
- 37:28So American Mary is a movie that's directed by Jin and Sylvia Soska,
- 37:36known as the Soska sisters.
- 37:38Ooh.
- 37:38It stars Catherine Isabel as Mary Mason.
- 37:41So it's a horror movie about a medical student named Mary who is,
- 37:48she's in medical school.
- 37:50She's broke as hell as we all are in college.
- 37:52And she is a very talented student.
- 37:55So she gets kind of drawn into the world of body modification surgery.
- 37:59Things like,
- 38:00not your usual,
- 38:03I want horns placed in my head or I want my tongue split.
- 38:06Things like me and my identical twin sister both want to switch one arm with each other.
- 38:11So we're always with each other.
- 38:12What?
- 38:14Yeah, that's one of the very great stuff she does.
- 38:16Like totally next level shit.
- 38:18Oh, I thought you were saying that was a normal laugh.
- 38:21You know, normal everyday things like belly button piercings,
- 38:28getting your ears gaged, switching your arm with your identical twin sisters.
- 38:33You never apart from each other.
- 38:35You never apart from each other.
- 38:36Those are the kind of things that she moves into.
- 38:41Okay.
- 38:42Because they're underground and they kind of elicit one money.
- 38:44One woman wants to be turned into like-
- 38:46That's the third level of hell.
- 38:47That is the third level.
- 38:48That's the third level.
- 38:48Hey, man.
- 38:49I think that we're making a fourth.
- 38:50They ask for it.
- 38:52So she is, like I said, a medical student.
- 38:57She's going to college for her doctorate program.
- 39:00Trigger warning here, she has a professor that pretends like he sees a lot of talent in her.
- 39:06They end up going to some kind of function together.
- 39:10He sexually assaults her.
- 39:11She goes on to kidnap him and cut off his arms and his legs and his cock and hangs him from a meek hood.
- 39:24And we're like garage.
- 39:26It just slowly tortures this man.
- 39:29Is he still alive?
- 39:30Yes, he is a little garage.
- 39:32Yes, he is baby girl.
- 39:34He is still alive.
- 39:36Yeah.
- 39:36So she's collecting money from these underground surgeries that she's doing.
- 39:41For people come to her, she's not doing that it's, you know, it's like to torture other people.
- 39:47There's not like a sign on the side of the road.
- 39:49She took her arm or she's taking arms from other people.
- 39:54I'm putting them on other people.
- 39:55Oh my god.
- 39:56No.
- 39:56This is one truck on the arm.
- 40:00Can we put a pin in that on the band in the meek hood, circle back to the arms?
- 40:04Thank you.
- 40:04If you circle back to that, it's a piggyback off of what I've said.
- 40:08Okay, so one of the examples of something she does.
- 40:12It is actually the Sasuke sisters and they're identical twin sisters.
- 40:16So they attached?
- 40:18No.
- 40:18They, one of they play two characters.
- 40:21What was the twin?
- 40:22What were parasitic twins?
- 40:23They're not parasitic twins.
- 40:25They are separated.
- 40:26And one of the things that they request is to take my arm off.
- 40:30It's like, if I want to take out my right arm and Olivia's right arm,
- 40:35and then I put my arm where her arm used to be and where her arm was used to be.
- 40:38Okay.
- 40:39And then now we both still have two arms.
- 40:40So the main character has that happen to her?
- 40:44No, she did that.
- 40:45She did that.
- 40:46Okay, that was the question.
- 40:47She's the surgeon.
- 40:48She's the surgeon.
- 40:49That was the question.
- 40:50She does surgery on important things.
- 40:52For money.
- 40:53She does surgery on people from money.
- 40:55Thank you.
- 40:56I, we can, we can take the pin out of it.
- 40:59Pin out.
- 40:59She does weird surgery on people.
- 41:02Things that normal body modification artists would not do.
- 41:05That's why it's a black market kind of underground weird shit.
- 41:09She does it.
- 41:10And in the meantime, she has her sexual assault rapist professor hanging on a meat hook with his arms
- 41:20and he's just a stump.
- 41:21He's just a dorsal with no cough.
- 41:23Are they in separate rooms?
- 41:26Who?
- 41:26Like the surgery.
- 41:27The surgery is in the men.
- 41:29He's in the garage.
- 41:29Oh, okay.
- 41:30She's a little garage.
- 41:31Right.
- 41:32I guess I should have spent a little bit.
- 41:33Where have you been?
- 41:34She's got the torso hanging in like a meat warehouse or a garage or a tree.
- 41:39I'm getting a car in the car.
- 41:41No one's taking off your arms today.
- 41:44Okay, thank you.
- 41:45Anyway, using me as an example.
- 41:47I think she used her all the way over.
- 41:49So anyway, Mary is a whore.
- 41:53Anyway, good for her.
- 41:56It doesn't turn out too hot for our girl, American Mary.
- 42:00At the end, she is, she dies in the end.
- 42:03She's police catch up with her.
- 42:05She's deceased.
- 42:07But she gets revenge on this disgusting rapist man.
- 42:11And he dies a much more brutal and torturous death than she does.
- 42:17Yeah, he's literally dismembered and like.
- 42:21He's a stump.
- 42:22He's a stump with no cock and she.
- 42:25I think she cuts out his tongue or so.
- 42:27A stump with no stumps.
- 42:28She just, she tortures this man in the way that you go.
- 42:32Good for her.
- 42:34Oh, we ended saying good for her.
- 42:38Even though she dies.
- 42:41I think so.
- 42:42Okay.
- 42:42Because much like I think one of the movies that you are going to mention
- 42:46where the character dies in the end,
- 42:48she still enacts her revenge during her life for what happened to her.
- 42:52Okay.
- 42:53So I ended the movie being disappointed that she died
- 42:56because I really liked the character.
- 42:57I've cosplayed her as her as Kai Comic-Con before.
- 43:00But did you make Andrew go as a stump?
- 43:03I cut off my husband's arms and legs and cock.
- 43:06Don't worry.
- 43:08I soaked him back on with my medical degree.
- 43:10What about the arms?
- 43:12What about the goddamn arms?
- 43:14I watch this movie with me and I think at the end
- 43:18a lot of these good for her movies
- 43:20that I've watched with Andrew like teeth,
- 43:21American Mary, others that we've mentioned.
- 43:23I always ended and I'm like, "Hell yeah."
- 43:26And he ends it like this.
- 43:28So I gotta go click all of duty.
- 43:31I just want you to know that I love you so much.
- 43:35I do love watching the movie teeth around random man.
- 43:41Yes, particularly a group of men.
- 43:43If you can like,
- 43:44casually suggest that movie.
- 43:46That's another important point.
- 43:47For her.
- 43:48Yeah, for her.
- 43:49That is a great good for her.
- 43:50That is a great good for her.
- 43:51I feel like a lot of kind of like,
- 43:52unfortunately,
- 43:53and I'm not like a huge fan of the genre
- 43:56because I feel like it can be explotated for a share
- 43:58but like,
- 43:59rake revenge films.
- 44:00I feel like that's most of good for her.
- 44:03But,
- 44:03traditional good for her.
- 44:06Yeah, I mean, I don't like it when rape is used as a plot device
- 44:10in film and in media in order to advance the story of like a male character
- 44:15like in Game of Thrones when Sansa is raped, right?
- 44:18She never really, I mean, she does get her good for her moment
- 44:21with Ramsey, like the dogs attack him.
- 44:24But it's just it felt like such a slow burn to get there
- 44:30and it was also kind of done to advance the plot of a man like beyond.
- 44:36With these movies, I feel like there's no man who's plot these are advancing.
- 44:42It's only for her and her fucking revenge, right?
- 44:45Yeah.
- 44:45Good for her.
- 44:46Yeah.
- 44:46Yeah, I think promising young woman is such an interesting one
- 44:50because like a lot of people go,
- 44:52is promising young woman like a good for her movie?
- 44:55Because like it doesn't end well.
- 44:57Yes, she does.
- 44:58In the end too.
- 44:59Yeah, yeah.
- 45:00And you're like,
- 45:00oh,
- 45:01and if you've never seen promising your woman,
- 45:03it's by the same director as Sal Burn.
- 45:06It's a really good movie.
- 45:07But yeah, it is all around that.
- 45:10Like it doesn't happen to her, like the, you know, like rape and sexual assault part.
- 45:16But it really kind of drives her.
- 45:18It's a story of it happens to her friend.
- 45:20And no one believes her friend.
- 45:21And then she ends up like taking her own life.
- 45:23And it's kind of the story of like her seeking revenge and retribution.
- 45:28And like, yeah, I think promising young woman is an interesting one
- 45:31because it is so like typical to that plot.
- 45:34But it just really doesn't end well.
- 45:36So you feel like, oh crap.
- 45:38It like subverts those, like she's doing it on behalf of her friend.
- 45:42Yeah.
- 45:42Right?
- 45:43So I feel like these films are feminist in that sense,
- 45:45where even if they are morally gray,
- 45:48it just kind of shows like a female main character with power.
- 45:51It doesn't always have to be a perfect little pretty princess.
- 45:54Women can make mistakes.
- 45:55Women can make morally gray choices.
- 45:57Right?
- 45:58And they're always like doing it on behalf of other women too.
- 46:02So like she's supporting, she goes through that
- 46:04because her friend was the one who was assaulted.
- 46:07And she's still willing to like really sacrifice her life at the end of this movie.
- 46:11Yeah.
- 46:11So like get revenge on these men who did this to her friend.
- 46:14Yeah.
- 46:15Well, what's interesting, I'm kind of like as we just said,
- 46:18Saltburn, like Emerald Fennel is so good at like the twist.
- 46:21Like, some of this twist,
- 46:23where you think the entire movie,
- 46:25she's like murdering all of these men.
- 46:27Yeah.
- 46:28That she's like tricking and taking home and doing all this.
- 46:31And it ends up not being the case.
- 46:33But yeah, it's really interesting.
- 46:35And that a great good for her.
- 46:36Yeah.
- 46:37Good for her.
- 46:38Yeah.
- 46:39Not dying, but good for her.
- 46:40Yeah.
- 46:41Don't die, but
- 46:42and she doesn't end up murdering people.
- 46:44So she doesn't get her.
- 46:45There's no meat on stumps.
- 46:47Yeah.
- 46:47No arms.
- 46:47No stumps.
- 46:48No arms are meat on stumps.
- 46:50No, he still be mixed with.
- 46:51I don't watch this.
- 46:52Clearly, just figure out the art of gunnobot.
- 46:54She's gonna watch this movie, say you can go.
- 46:56Uh.
- 46:57Yeah, arms are trained.
- 46:58Stay tuned for the notes.
- 47:02Hey Nicole.
- 47:05My next one is
- 47:06very unlike both of those.
- 47:09Oh yes.
- 47:10Are there any meat stumps?
- 47:11No.
- 47:12Just uh, what's his name?
- 47:15He is a meat stump.
- 47:18The boyfriend.
- 47:18Oh, he's just a meat stump personified.
- 47:21Name, Warner.
- 47:22Warner.
- 47:22Yeah.
- 47:23Warner is a stump.
- 47:24And if you could identify now,
- 47:27when a movie is legally blocked.
- 47:29That is a good for that.
- 47:31It is supporting society's relationships or events.
- 47:34Yes.
- 47:35If you don't know what legally blonde is.
- 47:36Welcome to the future.
- 47:38I don't know what you've been living.
- 47:39She goes to a law school.
- 47:40There you go.
- 47:40She's your typical sorority girl who
- 47:43has at the perfect boyfriend's literally barbeying Ken.
- 47:47If you could picture barbeying Ken, this is those two.
- 47:50And
- 47:51Warner goes off to Harvard to go to law school
- 47:55because that's just his family's dynamic.
- 47:58That's what his whole family does.
- 47:59He's coast money.
- 48:00Yes.
- 48:00So that's what he does.
- 48:02And they go on a date before he goes off.
- 48:05And
- 48:05Elle thinks that Elle who played
- 48:08who's played by Reese Witherspoon
- 48:10thinks that this is where he's going to propose
- 48:12and he ends up breaking it off.
- 48:14And she doesn't know why but then
- 48:16she's getting her
- 48:17nailed her done at a salon.
- 48:20And she realizes it's because he wants someone
- 48:24that is going to be smart and successful in life.
- 48:26And the smart triggers something in her.
- 48:29Not triggers.
- 48:30This flips a switch in her
- 48:32that she needs to go to law school because she wants to end up with Warner.
- 48:34And then when she gets to law school
- 48:37so she gets into Harvard.
- 48:38Yes.
- 48:39She gets into Harvard.
- 48:39Like it's hard.
- 48:40And
- 48:42her submission video is hilarious.
- 48:46She's in her bikini.
- 48:48Yeah.
- 48:48And
- 48:49the panel is all white men.
- 48:51Oh, poor.
- 48:52They're like well we've never had someone like this before.
- 48:55I'm like you know what?
- 48:56Where's your water in?
- 48:57Exactly.
- 48:57Good for her.
- 48:58Exactly.
- 48:59I bet you use those.
- 48:59So no, there were some really hot women at Harvard who watched this movie
- 49:03and are like cool thanks.
- 49:05Yeah, exactly.
- 49:05Thanks cool.
- 49:07Cool.
- 49:07That.
- 49:08So then they're on campus and she runs into Warner
- 49:12and he is shocked.
- 49:13He's like what are you doing here?
- 49:14She goes I go here.
- 49:16He goes you aware.
- 49:17Harvard.
- 49:18Herman Law.
- 49:19Like it's hard.
- 49:20And then like hard.
- 49:22He's engaged to someone else.
- 49:25Salma Blair.
- 49:26We love.
- 49:27I love.
- 49:28We love Salma.
- 49:29Not in that character.
- 49:30But I do love someone.
- 49:31She's a little weird lately.
- 49:33But it's like someone who loves to have a life like her.
- 49:34One of ways.
- 49:36Vivian is who Warner is engaged to and this makes Elvery mad.
- 49:44She ends up becoming super duper smart and getting
- 49:46becoming a lawyer and the valedictorian of the class.
- 49:51blah blah blah.
- 49:52As you can see she's very smart and is very successful.
- 49:55And Vivian and Warner end up not being together
- 49:59because Warner is a jerk who is not actually very smart.
- 50:01He's a meatstum.
- 50:02So honestly.
- 50:03And he tries to get back without.
- 50:04Yes.
- 50:04And just shows us true colors.
- 50:06So you're like,
- 50:06El has been smart the whole time.
- 50:08Yeah.
- 50:09And she starts by thinking I have to go to Harvard
- 50:12to win this man back.
- 50:14And that's her initial reason for going to Harvard.
- 50:17And then she realizes,
- 50:18oh fuck, I'm actually really smart.
- 50:21And my whole life people have kind of talked down to me.
- 50:24Yeah, I know.
- 50:24Because I'm pretty and because of the way I look.
- 50:27And they don't expect a lot out of me.
- 50:30But and she realizes she really loves it.
- 50:32So I think that's a good good for her maybe.
- 50:34Because it's like she goes into it trying to get revenge
- 50:37or win him back.
- 50:38Yeah.
- 50:38And then she ends up getting like the revenge.
- 50:40Yeah, I think it's like the girl boss of vacation
- 50:44like before we got there.
- 50:45Yeah.
- 50:46Where I can do anything, you know.
- 50:48That point can do.
- 50:49But that movie like spurred a lot of millennials to be like,
- 50:53yeah, like I'm going to have my glow up.
- 50:55I'm going to, I don't need a man.
- 50:56I shut girl.
- 50:57Yeah.
- 50:58Yeah.
- 50:59I have like one of my best friends.
- 51:01She is a very blonde wears all pink is a lawyer
- 51:05and like L Woods love it.
- 51:08Shaped her and I think she did that for a lot of millennial women.
- 51:11Absolutely.
- 51:12Just to realizing, imagine that you can be pretty--
- 51:15I'm in my fashion.
- 51:16And my fashion.
- 51:17And my fashion.
- 51:18You can be multi-dimensional and multi-faceted.
- 51:21Yeah, what a crazy time.
- 51:23Yeah.
- 51:23I love that.
- 51:24It's good, baby.
- 51:25It's classic.
- 51:26It is.
- 51:27Switching back to bodies.
- 51:29This is one of the most popular, I think, kind of good for her films
- 51:35of the past maybe 10 years.
- 51:37And it's mid-summer.
- 51:39So mid-summer is directed by Ari Astor.
- 51:42It follows a young woman named Danny, who is played by Florence Pugh.
- 51:46Always amazing.
- 51:47Always does with that iconic frowny face.
- 51:50God, I love her so much.
- 51:52She travels with her boyfriend and his friends
- 51:54to a Swedish village to attend a mid-summer festival.
- 51:58It kind of starts out being this idyllic kind of,
- 52:01oh, everyone's wearing light and frolicing in the grass.
- 52:04And the movie takes place in a village
- 52:07where it's always daytime, which really
- 52:09subverts kind of those horteroves that the danger comes at night
- 52:12because it's the middle of the day and the sun's out.
- 52:14And old people are leaping to their deaths in this movie.
- 52:17Yeah, it's kind of like the opposite of her editor.
- 52:20Exactly.
- 52:21Yes.
- 52:22Same director.
- 52:23So I really resonated a lot with this movie.
- 52:26And I think I've mentioned it before on the show.
- 52:28But Danny is going through a life tragedy,
- 52:32where her mother dies or father dies.
- 52:34I think her sibling or sister kills them.
- 52:37Yeah, it's like murder suicide.
- 52:39Yeah, it's a homicide.
- 52:41Yeah, it's a homicide.
- 52:42So her sister completes suicide also kills the parents with carbon dioxide.
- 52:48Runs of pipe.
- 52:49It's crazy.
- 52:50It's very disturbing.
- 52:51It's like, so Danny is dating this man and is in college.
- 52:55And all of his friends are kind of like, uh,
- 52:57that--
- 52:57He's a part of that.
- 52:58Yeah.
- 52:59And this reminds me so much of myself in college,
- 53:02in my college boyfriend, because my mother had just died.
- 53:06And my boyfriend was just like this guy with his friends
- 53:09being like, uh, shut it sucks.
- 53:12She's boyfriend.
- 53:12She's so sad.
- 53:13She's so sad all the time.
- 53:15It's so weird.
- 53:16I don't know why she'd be so sad.
- 53:19I'm like, not like I went through the greatest tragedy of my life, right?
- 53:22And I get to find it's fine.
- 53:23Maybe we should do keg sense.
- 53:25Yeah.
- 53:26Which is exactly what this vibe is in this maybe, right?
- 53:28His friends are like, uh, Danny sucks.
- 53:31She ends up getting invited along on this trip.
- 53:35And really, it kind of finds her place and her family in this village.
- 53:39Like, she ends up being the spring queen.
- 53:43May queen.
- 53:43The May queen, yeah.
- 53:45And they put, you know, the flower crown on her
- 53:47and that iconic flower dress.
- 53:50And this spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen midsummer.
- 53:53Please see it.
- 53:54It's iconic.
- 53:54It's amazing.
- 53:56But your boyfriend ends up cheating on her
- 54:01during some kind of psychedelic trance.
- 54:03And they sacrifice him.
- 54:06All of his friends have been killed.
- 54:07They sacrifice him by putting him inside of a bear.
- 54:10Hashtag, you justice for the bear.
- 54:11Hashtag, good for bear.
- 54:12And put him inside of the bear corpse.
- 54:16And then light this like building on fire with him still alive.
- 54:20Mm-hmm.
- 54:21But unable to move inside of the bear.
- 54:23I think I probably wouldn't have done it.
- 54:26Oh, for sure.
- 54:27That's right. They tell her.
- 54:28They give her the option.
- 54:29Like, you can choose a random person in this village.
- 54:31Or you can choose him.
- 54:33Mm-hmm.
- 54:34And it doesn't show her like pointing.
- 54:37It just kind of cuts to like him burning.
- 54:39Him in a bear scene.
- 54:40It is good.
- 54:41And the last scene of the movie is her watching this.
- 54:44And she's got her whole flower and sumbling on
- 54:47in this smile slowly creeps up her face.
- 54:51And all you can say is,
- 54:53God, good for her.
- 54:55Yeah.
- 54:55Good for her.
- 54:56Yeah.
- 54:57God, this guy was such a piece of shit.
- 54:58And again, it's morally ambiguous.
- 55:02Like, if one of your boyfriend's was treating you like this,
- 55:05I might not be like, or you should put him in a bear scene.
- 55:09Or a bear.
- 55:09I'm like, God, if you thought I'm like,
- 55:11I'm gonna like, or virtual this thing.
- 55:13Or a fire.
- 55:14I'd be like, we thought I'm not joining a call in Sweden.
- 55:18She wanted to speak about Sweden.
- 55:19I loved that journey for you.
- 55:21I actually would love that journey for us.
- 55:23We would be, we all would be when,
- 55:25had sex kill.
- 55:27Yes.
- 55:27Has sex slay.
- 55:28Has sex slay?
- 55:29A girl born.
- 55:30Sweet as slay.
- 55:32We would be amazing at that.
- 55:36Yeah.
- 55:36Yeah.
- 55:36I don't know about the,
- 55:38the chopping of the arms off,
- 55:41but I would like someone on fire.
- 55:44So that's right.
- 55:45Good for her.
- 55:45Well, she chopped off the arms net other movie,
- 55:48and it was consensual.
- 55:49She wanted the arms chopped off.
- 55:50And she wanted the arms chopped off.
- 55:52The guy who she put on the meat stump,
- 55:54that wasn't consensual.
- 55:55That was revenge.
- 55:57Yes.
- 55:57Like, she's been,
- 55:59he gas lights her so hard through this whole movie.
- 56:02The whole movie is so just anxiety riddled
- 56:05because you just screaming at the screen like,
- 56:07"He's full of shit.
- 56:09He's full of shit."
- 56:10What's the eyebrow guy from "We're the Millers?"
- 56:13Oh my god.
- 56:14Will Polter.
- 56:15Yeah, we'll polter so hot now.
- 56:17Yeah.
- 56:17The eyebrow guy.
- 56:18Yeah.
- 56:19That's really paper.
- 56:20He literally is eyebrow guy.
- 56:22He's so fine now.
- 56:24No, no.
- 56:25But he still does the eyebrows,
- 56:26and I can't,
- 56:27he's, no, I can't go for it.
- 56:28He's much better looking now,
- 56:31because he's, yeah,
- 56:32he's got like a beard and a body.
- 56:34He still needs my brow shaping
- 56:36and just putting it out there.
- 56:38Will the altar call me?
- 56:39I like the bow.
- 56:40If you're listening,
- 56:41I will poke your eyebrows,
- 56:43and then we can do it.
- 56:44And then we can do it.
- 56:46I'll do it as you are.
- 56:48Yeah.
- 56:49Good for her.
- 56:50Good for her.
- 56:50Good for Shauna.
- 56:51Thank you.
- 56:52Yeah.
- 56:52I love that part.
- 56:53But no, I really, I love this baby trope.
- 56:56If anybody listening has other good examples,
- 56:59another one of my favorites is the Witch with Aniteler Joy.
- 57:02Mm-hmm.
- 57:03Like we said, Thalman Louise Kill Bill Gone Girl.
- 57:06Yeah, Gone Girl is like the iconic one.
- 57:08And like Amy really kind of like led to that.
- 57:11And like the, oh, I can like see myself.
- 57:14Like I wouldn't like fake my own death
- 57:18and frame my husband.
- 57:19But like her cool girl monologue.
- 57:22Yeah.
- 57:23Everybody like when I'm even to that.
- 57:24And was like, she's driving away.
- 57:25She's like, you know, I wouldn't do it,
- 57:27but good for her.
- 57:28That's it.
- 57:29Yeah, I think that's an important distinction
- 57:30with a lot of these two.
- 57:31I wouldn't do it, but good for her.
- 57:33That's the journey she's on.
- 57:35They are a cautionary tale.
- 57:38Good for two scare men.
- 57:39And maybe we'll threaten the next man
- 57:42and say, don't make me make you Mr. Stumpy.
- 57:46Don't make me meet Stumpy.
- 57:48Don't make me.
- 57:49I'm so sorry.
- 57:50I'm sorry.
- 57:50I'm sorry.
- 57:51You're so annoying.
- 57:52That's keep it a watch out.
- 57:53I'm swapping.
- 57:54They asked for it.
- 57:55All right.
- 57:58Well, I gotta go watch this video.
