- 0:09SPEAKER_02: All right, here we go, gang.
- 0:10SPEAKER_02: What a Sunday.
- 0:12SPEAKER_02: What a Sunday.
- 0:13SPEAKER_02: I mean, it started pretty early, and it I mean, time it got to 6 30, I was like, wait a second, it's only 6 30.
- 0:19SPEAKER_02: Why does it feel like 12 30?
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: But man, what a great day.
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: Sunday was a great day.
- 0:24SPEAKER_02: It was a long day, but a good day.
- 0:25SPEAKER_03: A little sweaty hot, but nonetheless.
- 0:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, pretty warm for an October.
- 0:30SPEAKER_06: It felt good.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: It did feel like it's a good thing.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it did felt good to say.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: But what a cool, what a cool thing to have Rhett Walker and Jace Robinson.
- 0:36SPEAKER_02: I mean, it was really cool.
- 0:37SPEAKER_02: I mean, did you guys did you guys I mean you guys did the whole Duck Dynasty thing, like watching Duck Dynasty?
- 0:43SPEAKER_03: Uh I weren't like uh I've been watching.
- 0:45SPEAKER_06: I mean, I watched plenty, but not like I probably watch more of that than listen to the podcast.
- 0:49SPEAKER_06: Right, yeah.
- 0:50SPEAKER_06: For sure.
- 0:51SPEAKER_06: Listen more to the podcast now.
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: Because the new series revamp is like it's too scripted.
- 0:57SPEAKER_06: Oh, the podcast?
- 0:58SPEAKER_06: No, no, no.
- 0:59SPEAKER_06: The actual TV show.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: It can't do it.
- 1:02SPEAKER_03: Oh no, no, no.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: We watched the first episode and we're like, oh my gosh.
- 1:05SPEAKER_02: No, yeah.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: No, I'm I'm just an original Duck Dynasty guy.
- 1:08SPEAKER_03: But I don't remember Duck Dynasty being like Survivor.
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: Like we had Survivor Night, Thursday night, every Thursday we were survivor.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: So I couldn't tell you like what night we watched Duck Dynasty, but I've watched plenty of things.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, we were a Duck Dynasty family for sure.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: I mean, Nathaniel loved it, and so it was cool.
- 1:22SPEAKER_02: Like great conversations.
- 1:23SPEAKER_02: My son quotes Phil all the time.
- 1:25SPEAKER_03: Did you watch the frog digging one when they go out to get the frog?
- 1:28SPEAKER_03: And they're the fattest frogs, and they just get them by hand.
- 1:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:31SPEAKER_03: So gross.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: I think one of the things I was most impressed about, like meeting Jace, was like, wow, this guy's this is the exact same guy watched, been watching on TV for years.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's nothing different about this dude.
- 1:40SPEAKER_06: I thought it was very how how the show came about.
- 1:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:45SPEAKER_06: Like that Phil is this personality, and he's probably like the shotgun thing.
- 1:49SPEAKER_06: That was hilarious.
- 1:50SPEAKER_06: That was hilarious.
- 1:51SPEAKER_06: Uh shoot it and it goes boom, boom.
- 1:56SPEAKER_06: You're like, you can picture that happening.
- 1:58SPEAKER_06: I my favorite question was like, if you like, do you like all your brothers?
- 2:02SPEAKER_06: And he's like, Yeah, I think if all the brothers said one that they don't like, it would be me.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:07SPEAKER_06: And it's like, what?
- 2:08SPEAKER_06: It's like, yeah, because I'm most like my dad.
- 2:11SPEAKER_06: Like, so that they're not like your dad?
- 2:13SPEAKER_06: Or like nobody's very direct.
- 2:15SPEAKER_06: I'm sure he was known.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: Right, because their mom's just so sweet.
- 2:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 2:18SPEAKER_06: I'm sure he's just very like, you're stupid.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:22SPEAKER_06: Don't do that.
- 2:23SPEAKER_06: Like, how do I do?
- 2:24SPEAKER_06: Well, don't do that.
- 2:25SPEAKER_06: Like, I mean, I'm sure he's that guy.
- 2:27SPEAKER_06: And that's why I'm like, next year I want Willie.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: Dude, the way you, I mean, not everybody got to experience this because it was the VIP area, but like Pastor James obviously introduced, you know, Jace Robinson, and he's like, correct me if I say this wrong, but he's like, well, you know, we couldn't get Willie, so the next best was Jace Robinson.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: So can you give your hands up for Jace Robinson?
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: It was great.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: I was like, Willie, Jace loved it.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: I mean, he loved it.
- 2:52SPEAKER_06: It's not wrong either.
- 2:54SPEAKER_06: He's living that way.
- 2:55SPEAKER_06: I'm like, I originally wanted Willie.
- 2:56SPEAKER_06: He was just more money.
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: I actually think that Jace probably is probably better.
- 3:04SPEAKER_06: I mean, Jace, Willie is very uh he's the business mind.
- 3:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 3:09SPEAKER_06: He's the one that's like now.
- 3:12SPEAKER_06: He just probably doesn't know how to do anything.
- 3:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 3:14SPEAKER_06: I mean, when you know Duck calls, he's just like, man, what an opportunity.
- 3:17SPEAKER_06: Let's do it.
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: But who else is on the podcast with that with Jace?
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: Alan, the brother.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: And then they have a really good friend that's actually related, but he's like he's like you.
- 3:27SPEAKER_02: This guy's like biblically like theologian.
- 3:29SPEAKER_03: He's so good to listen to who they are.
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: But he's he's the one that produced the movie.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: I think he was head over the fame movie of the family.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: The movie was good.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: Movie was really good.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:38SPEAKER_06: Didn't I hear like the movies are doing I meant to ask him this.
- 3:42SPEAKER_06: Two more?
- 3:43SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: I know when it originally came out, they said that.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: Because it leaves on the thing.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: I mean, all the kids are like small and you know.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: I mean, how do we like I I said the same thing about the men's rally, like because we had Ben Fuller and I'm like, we beat Jace Robinson?
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: Like that's that's a I mean, that's pretty awesome.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: It's pretty awesome.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: I wanted to ask him which is a good one.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: Probably inappropriate.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:07SPEAKER_03: But I wanted to know like how they're doing like grieving the loss of their dad.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 4:12SPEAKER_03: But I just didn't know how to word it.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: That would be a great question to ask.
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: Just like their dad was such a leader in their family, and then he got sick and he's gone.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: I did not it didn't seem that long.
- 4:23SPEAKER_06: Correct me if I'm wrong.
- 4:24SPEAKER_06: He had did he have Alzheimer's?
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: I believe so.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: A form of it, yeah.
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: Oh, really?
- 4:27SPEAKER_02: I didn't know.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: I think it was quick.
- 4:29SPEAKER_06: Like I don't think he was quick long.
- 4:30SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 4:31SPEAKER_06: Obviously, it didn't.
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: Which you know what I heard today?
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: Um, oh, it was actually a clip of his show.
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: And he was saying that he heard uh someone asked if you could name your great grandparents.
- 4:45SPEAKER_03: So in my mind, I'm going, I can name them, but in my mind, I was naming my kids' great grandparents, which is my grandma.
- 4:50SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: My grandparents.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, not your grandparents.
- 4:52SPEAKER_03: I can name two of my great grandparents.
- 4:54SPEAKER_03: But he was saying, your kids' kids will not know your name.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: So like that's so I can't name my grandparents.
- 5:02SPEAKER_03: Carlo and Davis's children will not know our name.
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: Sorry, Jamie.
- 5:06SPEAKER_03: Unless your kids And then I was thinking, I was like, oh my God, right.
- 5:10SPEAKER_03: I don't know my great grandparents on my mom's side.
- 5:13SPEAKER_03: I don't know a thing about them.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: That's crazy.
- 5:15SPEAKER_03: So then it's like even like their family.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: We'd have dropped the mic.
- 5:18SPEAKER_03: I know, but like in two generations.
- 5:21SPEAKER_06: No, no, no, no.
- 5:22SPEAKER_06: No, Harlow's kids.
- 5:23SPEAKER_06: Their children.
- 5:24SPEAKER_06: I know.
- 5:24SPEAKER_06: I'm talking about your parents though.
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: Well, yeah, because we're young.
- 5:27SPEAKER_06: So But I'm saying Harlow and Davis, or like our kids.
- 5:31SPEAKER_06: Well, because I know a lot.
- 5:32SPEAKER_03: I know two of my great-grandparents because they were alive when I was alive.
- 5:35SPEAKER_06: But I'm saying, like, your family's done a good job in the fact that like Jake and Carson will know Dennis and Eddie, and that's their great-grandparents.
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 5:43SPEAKER_03: But I think it was because we were young.
- 5:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: Like my grandparents.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: I'm saying you're my mom said I don't even know their names.
- 5:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 5:54SPEAKER_06: But it's a little sobering.
- 5:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah, because I don't know.
- 5:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we were all my side, my dad's side of the family are all really young.
- 6:02SPEAKER_06: But like my great-grandma died when I was five, so I don't Yeah.
- 6:05SPEAKER_03: One of the And is she the only one you know?
- 6:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and and they call her Big Mama.
- 6:10SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 6:11SPEAKER_03: That's a very popular name back in the South.
- 6:15SPEAKER_06: I mean, they're all from the South.
- 6:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's I think that's popular.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: I would be real mad if my grandma's name was Big Mama.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: Can it be skinny mama, tall mama, blonde mama?
- 6:27SPEAKER_03: I know, I know.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: You know, I know one of the things when I was visiting my family on the East Coast, which is my mom's side, my my aunt, uh, which that would have been the the oldest sibling, uh, they actually put together a book on the plough what my mom's maiden name is Pluff, her last name is Pluff, my maid, you know, whatever.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: And so anyway, so they wrote a whole book about like it goes back a long way.
- 6:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's it.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: That's always a good thing.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: It made me think it's easier.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: Scripture, which I think it's in Nehemiah, but I think it might be somewhere else.
- 6:51SPEAKER_03: You guys correct me if I'm wrong.
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: But um one generation removed, they did not know the stories that God had done.
- 6:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: And so I was like, oh yeah, when you don't talk about your Joshua, people move on, people die.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: Like it's just like that's why you guys are gonna hang out in the wilderness for a while, because we gotta get rid of a generation.
- 7:08SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 7:08SPEAKER_02: So we can start over.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: Jeez.
- 7:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:11SPEAKER_03: And teach them to say my name for a long, long time.
- 7:16SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: So here's a funny mami.
- 7:19SPEAKER_03: This is just this is like nobody needs to know this information, but it's hilarious.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: Okay, let's say it on the phone.
- 7:23SPEAKER_03: Parlo is just now actually forming word, like word, word, you know.
- 7:28SPEAKER_03: So Jamie's grandpa name is Papa J or PJ, and mine is KK.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: KK, Papa J.
- 7:36SPEAKER_03: Papa J right now, PJ, is coming out.
- 7:39SPEAKER_03: PP.
- 7:41SPEAKER_03: I videoed her because I know pretty soon it will be a J.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: So I videoed her saying, but my name and Carson's name and Libby's name is just sounds.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: So I was like, say KK.
- 7:52SPEAKER_03: She'll go, which is almost similar to her sound for snack.
- 8:00SPEAKER_04: Like this lady, I'm getting a snack.
- 8:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:03SPEAKER_03: She can say Lila.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: You know, you can tell she's saying it.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: And then Libby is like, whip blip.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: It's the bees.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: That's so cute.
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: So funny.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: How old is she now?
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: 18 months.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: Oh, wow.
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: The kids grow up fast.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: So it's just so funny.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: That little boy, he is a cutie too, man.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: So cute.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: Oh, at the family fest seeing him.
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: I'm like, dude, I just want to hug you.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: I can't believe she's calling you pee-pee.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: It's hilarious.
- 8:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'm just getting gassed.
- 8:28SPEAKER_06: That's the video.
- 8:29SPEAKER_06: She's in the car seat and she's like, who's that?
- 8:31SPEAKER_06: She's like, Wow.
- 8:34SPEAKER_06: But at this stage, you can call me whatever you want.
- 8:39SPEAKER_06: As long as you're pointing at me and saying something.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: I don't care.
- 8:41SPEAKER_03: What you say, hey you, I don't care.
- 8:42SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's right.
- 8:43SPEAKER_03: I do have to report back that Mary Kay listens to the podcast because she texted yesterday.
- 8:47SPEAKER_04: Let's go, Mary Kay.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: She listened a couple days later.
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: That's all right.
- 8:52SPEAKER_03: Don't matter when you listen.
- 8:53SPEAKER_03: That's awesome.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: Very cool.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: Well, we're on uh week two of Luke 15, talking about the older brother.
- 8:59SPEAKER_02: And so talking about the older.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: Was the older brother then like a lost coin?
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: One of the lost things?
- 9:06SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 9:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: I mean, a lot of times we don't think.
- 9:08SPEAKER_06: If you look at the theme of it, it's like, well, three stories, three lost things.
- 9:13SPEAKER_06: I mean, I think some people think lost son because he's this son of mine that I thought was you know, dead is now alive, or lost is now found.
- 9:21SPEAKER_06: You know, so like some would say that, but like in all the other ones, someone searched.
- 9:26SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 9:27SPEAKER_06: Right?
- 9:27SPEAKER_06: I mean, a shepherd searching, a woman searching, nobody was searching for the lost son, and you know.
- 9:34SPEAKER_06: So I mean, I I think it could be the younger son, right?
- 9:39SPEAKER_06: No, but nobody did it.
- 9:41SPEAKER_06: So like he almost could be the shepherd or the woman in the story.
- 9:44SPEAKER_06: You know, like how come you didn't go look?
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: So true.
- 9:49SPEAKER_06: Especially with the responsibilities, which I don't know that we understand in our American culture, the the uh authority that we put on the older, you know, most most older kids get our mistakes.
- 10:00SPEAKER_06: That's true, you know, or get our uh immaturity as parents, right?
- 10:04SPEAKER_06: They don't they don't get the I like how Nate Bergazzi says it's like apparently my mom's got a best friend, you know.
- 10:09SPEAKER_06: It's like his little sister's the little sister's like, man, she's ten years younger, and apparently, you know.
- 10:16SPEAKER_06: So I mean, I do think like you know, when you have your first kid, it's like, oh, you probably aren't thriving financially, you're probably struggling in some areas, and that's what your older kid gets.
- 10:25SPEAKER_06: Whereas this culture was probably a little different, and the responsibilities were were different, and he stayed, and but again, he represents the Pharisee, you know, he represents the religious leader, and so yeah, no.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: And how what a transition, because I mean the Pharisees had such an important role, correct me if I'm wrong, like their their role was to make sure that old testament law like was like followed and taken care of, but they just could not see the change, you know.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: I mean, like, and what a what a challenging transformation, uh transition, not transformation, transition for a Pharisee.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: Like, in regards to, you know, making that change.
- 11:06SPEAKER_02: Uh, I I think it would have been very I I could see why it would be very difficult.
- 11:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, I think all of us have Pharisee in us in the sense that we want to follow the rule, we wanna, we want the law, this is how it is, it's very black and white, and now someone's coming, and even though it's in the same, you know, prophets and laws that we're reading, even in the you know, Torah, you know, it's it's there, but for some reason I can't translate that it's actually happening.
- 11:33SPEAKER_06: Because Isaiah talked about it, right?
- 11:35SPEAKER_06: So it's not like it's not clear as day, it's just I can't fathom that this is the plan.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: Or like if you found your identity in being a Pharisee and not being in God or in Christ, like all of a sudden now, like, well, what's my job?
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: What do I do?
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, like you're taking something away from me, and I'm gonna you know, to a certain thing.
- 11:57SPEAKER_06: Especially when you say like these guys are responsible for the murder of Jesus.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: When you say it like that out loud, you're like, wow, that's uh They were holding they were protecting law to the point of like not seeing Jesus.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, that's very true.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: Uh very true.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: I d I mean I don't know if it relates to this, but like, and maybe maybe I'll wait before I go there, because I think it's more application than anything.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: But you got anything, Kelly?
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: Um Jamie said the line, we can behave in the church, but we don't know how to love like the father.
- 12:32SPEAKER_03: And then I wrote, I was like, Oh, am I a Pharisee?
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: Like that same mindset.
- 12:37SPEAKER_03: Like, I know most of us know how to behave in church, but then when it comes to like loving someone that needs it, do we do that well?
- 12:44SPEAKER_03: I don't always do that well.
- 12:46unknown: Yep.
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: Um I mean, I agree, me too.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: I wasn't saying, yes, you don't do that well.
- 12:51SPEAKER_03: You know, but it's like, oh well, you're not following the rules.
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like that is just not what Jesus is about at all.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: So I think it's a great reminder for those of us that have been in church for any extended events.
- 13:03SPEAKER_03: Yes, that's a good point.
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: Like if you've been in church for five years plus, whatever, ten years plus, probably more like ten years plus, this is a great reminder of like just the illustration when you talked about like are we the father and the type that we will we will extend the grace to walk outside and talk to the older brother versus like, you know what, forget him.
- 13:21SPEAKER_02: I'm done with it, you know what I mean?
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: And so kind of thing.
- 13:24SPEAKER_06: Well, it's such a balance, right?
- 13:26SPEAKER_06: Of of how do you disciple believers while still caring for the lost.
- 13:33SPEAKER_06: So, like the line, we become more concerned about the people who might leave our church than the people who desperately need to find Jesus.
- 13:41SPEAKER_06: And that's the that's the balance, right?
- 13:43SPEAKER_06: That's the this guy over here who's still growing in his faith, still, you know, some immaturity issues, he needs attention.
- 13:51SPEAKER_06: But the guy that's over here who doesn't even know, like, that's the balance.
- 13:54SPEAKER_06: And and like the father is saying, like, I've I've I've never left you.
- 13:59SPEAKER_06: Everything I have is yours.
- 14:01SPEAKER_06: I've loved you.
- 14:02SPEAKER_06: Like, what what are we arguing right now?
- 14:05SPEAKER_06: I thought he was dead.
- 14:06SPEAKER_06: He's not, he's back.
- 14:08SPEAKER_06: I'm now caring for him.
- 14:09SPEAKER_06: I think there are people that go, like, do all we care about is the lost.
- 14:13SPEAKER_06: Like, all we care about is you know, getting people to come to church.
- 14:17SPEAKER_06: Like, what about us?
- 14:18SPEAKER_06: You know, I've been here for 30 years.
- 14:20SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
- 14:21SPEAKER_03: Go find the lost.
- 14:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 14:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 14:23SPEAKER_06: Well, I think that's the that's the whole point, right?
- 14:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 14:26SPEAKER_06: He forgot the mission because he never left.
- 14:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 14:29SPEAKER_06: He never went and found his brother.
- 14:31SPEAKER_06: And I think the people that are that was the last person you led to the Lord.
- 14:35SPEAKER_06: When's the last time you shared your story?
- 14:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 14:37SPEAKER_06: When's the last time you gave your testimony?
- 14:39SPEAKER_06: When's the last time you loved someone?
- 14:40SPEAKER_06: Like, no, because you got so stuck in behaving well in the father's house that you forgot the mission.
- 14:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 14:47SPEAKER_06: Which was what?
- 14:48SPEAKER_06: Seeking saved those who are lost.
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: Would this apply?
- 14:50SPEAKER_03: Like always being in the father's house and never going on the outside.
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: So like you know, like in the 80s, 90s, maybe it's like with the church doors are open, we're there, but like you're never reaching outside of the those four walls.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: So it's like, you know how if you go to a third world country or go, even if you just leave our country, your eyes are like open, like, oh my gosh, there's this whole new world.
- 15:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:12SPEAKER_03: And so if you're just in the church bubble and you never pop out of it, it's gonna be really hard to reach the loss because your eyes don't see it anymore.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: My favorite way to describe life community church, and I feel like it I I feel like this this is because of you, you know what I mean, and who you are and what you guys have done here, the mission of the church, but like as our obviously our name is Live Community Church, but this is my way favorite way to describe it because I think it really describes who we are.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: We are the life of Jesus, right?
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: We bring the life of Jesus to the community by way of the church.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: We we bring the life of Jesus to the community by way of the church.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: So like when I as the body of I'm the church, the body of Christ, when I know who I am, how the grace of extended me, my gifts, all those kind of things, I'm going to bring the life of Jesus to wherever my community is by way of believers, by way of the church, by way of, you know, and this is sometimes we think like, wait a second, why isn't Pastor bringing me the life of Jesus?
- 16:10SPEAKER_02: And you do, like, and it's important, you know what I'm saying?
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: But like, bottom line, you know, this is and we're all doing that together.
- 16:17SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, that happens in discipleship to you, like aga amongst uh Christians and stuff like that.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: But, you know, that's kind of where we're at in the beginning.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: Like, and when we live that way, it's exciting because now it's yeah, this is what we see in the gospels for sure.
- 16:29SPEAKER_03: So Which is probably like what we see in the older brother.
- 16:31SPEAKER_03: He's like, What about me?
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: What about me?
- 16:33SPEAKER_03: Why aren't you celebrating me?
- 16:34SPEAKER_03: I've been here the whole time.
- 16:35SPEAKER_03: I've loved you the whole time.
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I love that you said like, wait a second, I am like You're in the party, right?
- 16:41unknown: Oh, yeah, right.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: I'm inviting you in.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: You're in the you're in the party.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, you're here, right?
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: Why are you not seeing that you're not here, you know?
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: Well, uh and I like the the point that you made too.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: You brought out that the responsibility how much the older brother was shirking his responsibility, because if he'd have been the older brother doing what fulfilling his responsibility is, that he would have went and found his younger brother in the pig stay and brought him home.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: But he just let him go, let him say.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: And so how many times do we in our lives go somebody does something more like, well, let him let him go.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Let him go.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: Instead of going and saying, Hey, you know, dude, what's what are you doing?
- 17:19SPEAKER_03: They made their bet I was gonna just say that.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:22SPEAKER_06: Oh, you're with pigs?
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Well Again, with one of the questions you asked is if Jesus came to seek and to save if Jesus came to seek and to save the lost, what mission are we on?
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: If that was his mission, what mission are we on?
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: Are we were we more about you know, just what we're doing internally?
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: And then, you know, you said too, there was a hundred and thirty-nine encounters Jesus had 139 encounters, 133 of them were outside of the temple, you know.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: And and I I made a note and I said, you know let's be outside people instead of inside people.
- 18:01SPEAKER_05: That's a really good talk.
- 18:02SPEAKER_05: And God has given us this task of reconciling people to Him.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: And and I think to be honest, too much of at least I'll call the Western Church the American Church, the the motivation with it what's put so many times what's put out there is that let's be inside people, not outside people.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: And that's the opposite that's the opposite of the mission of Jesus.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: He was an outside person.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: So I that that part I really love that.
- 18:30SPEAKER_06: I mean I think that's what I f it it wasn't destiny's fault.
- 18:35SPEAKER_06: It's when it was discovered for me.
- 18:38SPEAKER_06: You know, on a on a Wednesday night youth service where it hit me in the middle of my message that everything I'm saying for them to do, I'm not doing.
- 18:48SPEAKER_06: Because I'm not around unbelievers.
- 18:50SPEAKER_06: I'm not around people that don't think like me.
- 18:52SPEAKER_06: There was no conversations happening with people I didn't know that that believed differently.
- 18:57SPEAKER_06: That never happened.
- 18:59SPEAKER_06: I was around staff of people, I was around church people all the time.
- 19:04SPEAKER_06: Again, I I think that's what I mean, I think we're almost isolated that way.
- 19:10SPEAKER_06: That unless you come to us as an unbeliever, I don't I don't associate with unbelievers.
- 19:16SPEAKER_06: And so like that's a pastor mindset that I think is I'm not saying uh we do that, and I'm not even saying all churches do that.
- 19:22SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 19:22SPEAKER_06: It's where I found myself, you know, as a pastor in uh like in a lot of the places I was at in Omaha, like unless you're intentional, the job wasn't making that intentional, right?
- 19:34SPEAKER_06: You were pastoring the people that came to the church.
- 19:38SPEAKER_06: Doesn't mean I couldn't invite them there, doesn't mean you know growth wasn't happening.
- 19:42SPEAKER_06: It was just again, it was for me, unless they're on our turf, we weren't having hard conversations, you know, or someone responded to an altar.
- 19:52SPEAKER_06: Now, is that part of the me?
- 19:54SPEAKER_06: Absolutely, but I'm not in those settings for that to happen.
- 19:58SPEAKER_06: I'm not sitting amongst people who who disagree with you.
- 20:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 20:02SPEAKER_06: So that was my epiphany of like, huh.
- 20:06SPEAKER_06: And I don't know if you remember this, Mike, but I was working with Mosaic at the time I was on their board, right?
- 20:11SPEAKER_06: And Mosaic had said to me, like, hey, um, we have this opportunity in some schools where uh you we can share uh a perspective on abstinence.
- 20:25SPEAKER_06: And you know, they have sex educators, they have people that come in and talk about safe sex and all these things, and they want a perspective, and they're asking the church to come to this setting.
- 20:37SPEAKER_06: Are you interested?
- 20:38SPEAKER_06: And oh, by the way, we have a budget for it, we'll pay you for it.
- 20:42SPEAKER_06: And I was blown away.
- 20:43SPEAKER_06: I was like, what an opportunity to go into these schools.
- 20:47SPEAKER_06: And I went, you know, to leadership, no, that's not, that's not what we're gonna do.
- 20:52SPEAKER_06: And that was my epiphany of like, oh, I'm in the wrong place.
- 20:56SPEAKER_06: Like it's not wrong necessarily, but I'm in the wrong place.
- 20:59SPEAKER_06: Like these are opportunities where I get to be uncomfortable by sharing some biblical things in public spaces, and now it's but I think for the most part, churches have done that.
- 21:13SPEAKER_06: It's kind of kept um, you know, hey, I'm gonna invite you to church, and hopefully someone shares something.
- 21:20SPEAKER_06: Hopefully we have a good service, hopefully we pick the right songs, hopefully whatever's being shared entices you to make a decision and you come back.
- 21:29SPEAKER_06: That's why I'll tell people like if you haven't shared your story before you invite him to church, don't invite him to church.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: That's good.
- 21:36SPEAKER_06: Because, like, to me, all we're doing is saying this is someone else's job.
- 21:42SPEAKER_06: My job is to invite.
- 21:44SPEAKER_06: And it's part of it, but it's not the end game.
- 21:46SPEAKER_06: The end game isn't to get them associated to a church, but because their life has changed, they'll find a church.
- 21:53SPEAKER_06: That's a different approach.
- 21:55SPEAKER_06: It's a it's uh you have to flip that around.
- 21:58SPEAKER_06: And we're all responsible for that.
- 22:00SPEAKER_06: That's why we're all ministers.
- 22:01SPEAKER_06: It didn't say and he's given pastors a task of reconciling people to him.
- 22:06SPEAKER_06: Or uh we are Christ's ambassadors.
- 22:09SPEAKER_06: I mean, that's the biggest thing.
- 22:11SPEAKER_06: God is making his appeal through us.
- 22:14SPEAKER_06: We speak for Christ when we plead, come back to God.
- 22:18SPEAKER_06: Like that's the pleading, all of us.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: So I I heard this guy say this years ago, and I've i I think about it often because I try to evaluate my life from it.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: But he said, I always try to keep have at least five unsaved friends.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: And I said, the challenge is they don't stay unsaved very long.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: That's incredible.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: But he said I always because he says I never want to forget what my mission is.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: I thought that's good, because it's like you say, it's so many times we can encapsulate.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: And it's good to have like believers around, you know, and all that.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: But I think if we're not careful, then we just become insular and we feel comfortable.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: Trevor Burrus, Jr.
- 23:03SPEAKER_02: Well, I think sometimes we forget too, like and I I think I have the stat right, but like it's approximately this like we think the the father and the lost son that comes home, the coming home process, from what we understand statistically, and not that I mean obviously this is a parable, there were seven there were seven individuals that were a part of that process before that son ever even came home.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: Like according to like what we understand now in salvation.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: Like most people, like there's someone planting a seed, there's someone that's doing this, there's someone's doing this.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: And so, like, you know, when the L Holy Spirit nudges us to do something in someone's life, you know, like we step out in faith and we do it, knowing we might not be the one that like, you know, like puts our arms around them, but we're in the process of like it's so important that we're paying attention, we're being led by the Holy Spirit, like, and we're listening.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: So then, like, this is my role in this, in this job, you know what I mean?
- 23:57SPEAKER_02: And so, uh, you know, kind of thing.
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: And um, it's just it's key, it's really key.
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: And so for us to pay attention to that.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 24:05SPEAKER_06: And obviously, you have small groups, right?
- 24:06SPEAKER_06: These small groups are people who are intentional on I want this, and discipleship happens, right?
- 24:13SPEAKER_06: I mean, it just naturally happens, and that's important.
- 24:17SPEAKER_06: We don't throw that out and say we're all this and not that, but it's like that's a part of it.
- 24:22SPEAKER_06: But where are we bringing people from to go to those places?
- 24:27SPEAKER_06: And those places for us are small groups, Sunday mornings.
- 24:31SPEAKER_06: Some people might go, I'd rather sit in a small group, some might go, I'd rather be here on a Sunday morning.
- 24:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 24:35SPEAKER_06: And those are important, but how we get them there and what we do when that happens, it might be, I mean, we talked about this morning, it might be weeks of inviting someone, weeks of sharing your story, weeks of showing them something, and then something clicks, or they show up one day.
- 24:51SPEAKER_06: That's the seed that's being planted.
- 24:54SPEAKER_06: It might not happen all you might not be all seven people.
- 24:56SPEAKER_06: Like I mean not be all seven people.
- 24:58SPEAKER_06: You know, I mean, we prayed when for my older sister, I prayed, God, I pray that you would provide a neighbor that would come into my sister's life.
- 25:06SPEAKER_06: I mean, that became our prayer because there's no way I could be the one who does all those things.
- 25:12SPEAKER_06: There's no way you talk about someone, there's no way you can disciple someone.
- 25:17SPEAKER_06: I'm not discipling a 50-year-old woman that I'm bringing that or I invited or I, you know, soul at church on, you know, or at a gas station.
- 25:26SPEAKER_06: I'm not gonna be the one discipling them.
- 25:27SPEAKER_06: I can invite, I can share a story, I can be part of that process.
- 25:31SPEAKER_06: Someone else is gonna have to do that.
- 25:32SPEAKER_06: If we don't have that, that's when we're in trouble.
- 25:36SPEAKER_06: When we don't have like-minded people going like, oh my gosh, the Karen's of the world who like, yeah, I saw her, I sat next to her, I took her number, I prayed with her.
- 25:44SPEAKER_06: It's like, yes, that's that's what needs to happen.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: And sometimes I think we make it too we make it seem like it's too difficult when it isn't.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I just heard this, it was on a podcast, and I haven't got to listen to the whole thing.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: But this guy, I mean, uh I I saw a video portion of it, and this guy's maybe if I talk about you guys have seen it.
- 26:05SPEAKER_00: This guy's a big dude.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: And he was a biker.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: Rough looking man.
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: And he comes into I don't know where it was, it was a business or a restaurant or something like that.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: And there was this little little lady sitting there, and she comes over and she's like, Can I pray for you?
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: Or something like that.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: It was I'm probably messing the story up.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: But he's like, you know, he cusses and says, if you think you know your prayer's gonna blank blank blank blank, all this that.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: And she wasn't intimidated by that.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: She just she just prayed this simple prayer for him.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: And he said, I start crying.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: Whoa.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: I just started weeping.
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: He said, something broke in me when this lady prayed for me.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: He ends up giving his life to Jesus right there.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: And his I gotta go back and listen to the whole thing.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: But I mean, I I'm like, sometimes we make it so think it's so complex or difficult or whatever.
- 27:09SPEAKER_00: And this little lady was just like, you know, being led by the Lord to just pray for this big old rough-looking biker dude that you know killed people and everything.
- 27:21SPEAKER_06: And that's her part, right?
- 27:24SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 27:24SPEAKER_06: You know what I mean?
- 27:25SPEAKER_06: Like she's probably not the guy, the the girl that's gonna be like, all right, let's start meeting one-on-one.
- 27:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: Well, I think sometimes we we confuse like the salvation process with a discipleship.
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: The discipleship process is literally to help you walk in freedom, like to walk in a new identity.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: I mean, your new identity is given to you when you surrender your life to Jesus Christ.
- 27:45SPEAKER_02: Now, how do I carry that new identity?
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: This is discipleship, you know what I'm saying?
- 27:49SPEAKER_02: And so, like, even with, you know, the Israelites, you know, like they're rescued.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: And then God gives them a way to live.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: And the primary reason for those Ten Commandments was not just for the Israelites.
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: The primary reason we understand it was so that they could live in such a way that everyone outside of that would see that they need Jesus.
- 28:10SPEAKER_02: This is a better way to live.
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: So, like, if we truly are being disciples of Christ, the point is that there should be a lot of people saying, like, hey, why are you living the way you're living?
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: It's very attractive to me.
- 28:22SPEAKER_02: I want to live like you.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: Like, that's the Ten Commandments.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: It's like, that was the whole point.
- 28:25SPEAKER_02: It wasn't like, oh, like live these ten ways so that you can be a better person.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: That's not the point.
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: Live these ten ways because this is my kingdom.
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: That kingdom out there needs to see my kingdom, and you're that kingdom.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: So if you just do these things, you're gonna be really surprised how many people show up and say, I need that.
- 28:43SPEAKER_02: Can you give it to me?
- 28:44SPEAKER_06: I mean, I think about like day one for any you know, season.
- 28:48SPEAKER_06: For mine, it's soccer season.
- 28:50SPEAKER_06: And day one, everyone gets the jersey, right?
- 28:52SPEAKER_05: You're on the team.
- 28:53SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 28:53SPEAKER_06: And you're part of this team.
- 28:54SPEAKER_06: Now, how you function on that team, what you do on that team, how you grow on that team, to be what it looks like will look different in three months.
- 29:02SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 29:03SPEAKER_06: Um, but the starting point is hey, you're here.
- 29:05SPEAKER_06: Everybody gets a jersey.
- 29:06SPEAKER_06: Everybody gets the jersey.
- 29:07SPEAKER_06: Perfect.
- 29:08SPEAKER_06: Where we go, how much playing time, all that kind of stuff naturally comes from, you know, that's the starting point.
- 29:15SPEAKER_06: That's your identity.
- 29:16SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 29:16SPEAKER_06: And um, I mean, I think we, as Mike just said that, like, we make it so complicated.
- 29:22SPEAKER_06: We make it so difficult to to to navigate through.
- 29:26SPEAKER_06: And it's like, man, what we're talking about right now, like in Luke 15, like we've we've just complicated.
- 29:33SPEAKER_06: But I think it's the thinking that we have sometimes where we're we have an older brother mindset and we're well intended.
- 29:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 29:42SPEAKER_06: So like if I said to uh you know, you know, to someone like you you get though why this person's not this way, and you're like, Yeah, I get it, but I'm not living it.
- 29:52SPEAKER_06: So it's like, how do you connect that from belief to change?
- 29:58SPEAKER_06: You know what I mean?
- 29:58SPEAKER_06: Like you see that that you didn't go after him, right?
- 30:03SPEAKER_06: Like you you didn't do your part.
- 30:05SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you see that I'm inviting you in.
- 30:08SPEAKER_06: What what are we missing here?
- 30:09SPEAKER_06: It's this he knew who he was, he knew he's a son, he knew he was the older son, but he wasn't acting like it.
- 30:15SPEAKER_06: Right?
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: So then that's the discipleship discipleship part.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: Yep, so good.
- 30:20SPEAKER_01: Yep, so true.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think it it's something about the Ten Commandments is we we we act today, our perspective of the Ten Commandments was totally different than their perspective in the time that was given, because their perspective of the Ten Commandments were ten enrichments.
- 30:37SPEAKER_00: And God God gave them to them to keep them drawing towards him, to draw them into his heart.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: We look up to Adam today many times as rigidity and barriers and all do's, you know, more don'ts than whatever.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: But there are actually things to keep the people of God close to the heart of God.
- 30:57SPEAKER_06: Well, the Pharisees had those Ten Commandments, but yet they hadn't seen, like we have, the teaching of Jesus says, like, well, you say don't murder.
- 31:06SPEAKER_06: And we agree.
- 31:07SPEAKER_06: But if you have hatred towards your brother, you've already committed murder in your heart.
- 31:11SPEAKER_06: We said don't commit adultery, but if you're lusting after a woman that is not your wife, you've already committed adultery in your heart.
- 31:18SPEAKER_06: So all the things that Jesus is talking about are heart issues, which was all the issues the Pharisees had.
- 31:24SPEAKER_06: It was a your lips honor me.
- 31:27SPEAKER_06: You honor me with your lips, but your hearts, they're so far away.
- 31:30SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 31:31SPEAKER_06: I mean, that's uh everything Jesus is talking about is a heart posture.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I had an individual, let's think of that uh that commandment, but I had an individual this week that said, Sean, I'm I've murdered.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: Like this is like would God receive me?
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: And I said to her, Well, Jesus said in the New Testament that if you if you have anger towards a person, it's the same thing as murdering.
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: He he created those two things as equal.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: I said, I've gotten angry, so we've done the same thing.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: And he's received me, so I think he'll also receive you.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: Because it is, it's like it's exactly what you just said.
- 32:02SPEAKER_06: Who said something earlier about was it one of you said it as in like the only thing God won't forgive?
- 32:11SPEAKER_06: Like unforgettable sin.
- 32:12SPEAKER_03: We're talking about staff meeting.
- 32:13SPEAKER_03: It is uh blasphemy to the Holy Spirit.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, but you said something about like if you've broken all these things, like all of them are forgivable, but yeah, so blasphemy to the Holy Spirit as explained that I heard today in the Live Free Podcast is uh basically thinking Jesus is demonic.
- 32:31SPEAKER_03: So anything you've done besides that is forgivable.
- 32:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 32:37SPEAKER_03: And their point was like most people don't even think Jesus is demonic.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: So everything you do in your life is forgivable.
- 32:44SPEAKER_03: What podcast was that?
- 32:45SPEAKER_03: You said live free.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: Live free, okay.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: It's just like a 30-minute one.
- 32:49SPEAKER_03: It was good.
- 32:50SPEAKER_03: Who is it?
- 32:50SPEAKER_03: It's well explained.
- 32:51SPEAKER_03: The other two guys that are on with it's not Josh Howerton, it's the other two.
- 32:56SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 32:56SPEAKER_03: The other pastors on staff.
- 32:57SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're really good guys.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: So that's when is that Joby Martin and no, it's uh Josh Howard's.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: Josh Howerton's is Live Free.
- 33:04SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: I haven't heard that one.
- 33:05SPEAKER_02: I didn't know if that was so it's probably a clip of it.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: It's only 34 minutes.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: It's like they're just something new they're trying to do.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: Like it's just one deep theological, theological question and dig into it.
- 33:17SPEAKER_03: It's good.
- 33:17SPEAKER_03: I was like, oh, that's really good information.
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: But people who people do think they're unforgivable, and you're like, that's not the heart of God.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: I've had people say that's not the heart of God.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: Well, let's talk away through it.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: And then you're like, you also haven't read the Bible.
- 33:29SPEAKER_03: But David murdered and committed adultery.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: Yes, yeah, no.
- 33:33SPEAKER_06: I agree with that, but also people are basing it so many times on how they've been treated.
- 33:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 33:37SPEAKER_06: Oh, so so and so.
- 33:38SPEAKER_06: That's what I'm saying, even from our Christian bubble.
- 33:40SPEAKER_06: So there's no way that so and so can't be.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: And it's like, well, my grand like, you know, if you're like, well, my grandma's a Christian, but she's like the wickedest witch of the West, like, why would you want to become a Christian?
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: I've always told people.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: I've always told people, if you're asking me this question, you've not committed the unforgiveness of the people.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: That's what they said.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: That is exactly what they said.
- 34:01SPEAKER_03: If you're asking me this question, you don't have to worry about it.
- 34:04SPEAKER_03: If you're worried about it, you didn't do it.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: I don't know about you guys, but my struggle early on in my walk wasn't so much about God forgiving me as it was me forgiving me.
- 34:13SPEAKER_03: That's a great thought.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: Because I knew the things that I had done.
- 34:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:18SPEAKER_06: That a lot of people didn't know.
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: That a lot of people didn't know, but I knew.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: And you know, I I I was told about the concept God knows and forgive you, but the struggle was just me forgiving me for being dirty, rotten scoundrel.
- 34:35unknown: Yeah.
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: Well then you what you said, Pastor Jamie, is key.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: Like nobody knows except for you.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: And that's the problem.
- 34:41SPEAKER_02: Because when it's only me that knows, it's just it's actually me and Satan that know.
- 34:45SPEAKER_02: And Satan keeps on beating me with a bat about it.
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: But when I go confess to my brother in Christ, now I find freedom.
- 34:50SPEAKER_04: And you can heal.
- 34:51SPEAKER_02: And now they apply scripture to that.
- 34:53SPEAKER_02: And there's a process.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: That was when I could forgive myself.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: Is that God loved me this much that He did this for me, then I should be able to receive that love.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: And in that love, the total sum of forgiveness, not conditional.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: So that was the big breakthrough for me.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: It's like this person you talked about with murder.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: You know.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: I I've, you know, spent a number of years developing ministries in federal and state prisons and in the state prison.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: That was a thing because I dealt with murderers and worst of the worst.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: And seeing them, or many of them that were in for life without parole.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: So it wasn't going to be doing this to be, you know, good in front of a parole board or whatever.
- 35:53SPEAKER_00: It was literal encounters with the forgiveness of God and the love of God breaking through into their lives and radically changing them.
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: And when I saw that too, it was like, whoa, this this this is this is pretty powerful.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: Can I make two I have two things?
- 36:13SPEAKER_03: 100%.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: Jamie said uh we sometimes treat obedience as leverage, um, like the father owes us something.
- 36:23SPEAKER_03: And I don't know, like I've done this like with my children, my own children, and I'm not saying that my children are bad.
- 36:30SPEAKER_03: Everybody's kids are bad, by the way, because we're all sinners.
- 36:32SPEAKER_03: That's what I mean by that.
- 36:33SPEAKER_03: But I would be like, and my kids have not given us trouble as teenagers, but I would be like, God, I was a great teenager.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: Like I deserve to have very good teenagers.
- 36:44SPEAKER_03: I am reaping what I sowed.
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: I was so and I wasn't so good, but in the in the grand scheme of goodness, I was a good teenager.
- 36:52SPEAKER_03: So it's like that.
- 36:53SPEAKER_03: It's like, I did this and this and this for you, God.
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: I deserve it.
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: And we're like, no, we don't deserve anything.
- 36:58SPEAKER_03: We deserve death.
- 36:59SPEAKER_03: Yes, that's actually what we deserve.
- 37:01SPEAKER_06: You know, all these years.
- 37:02SPEAKER_06: Um I never got a party.
- 37:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's how yeah.
- 37:05SPEAKER_03: So he's just like, I deserve this.
- 37:07SPEAKER_03: And you're like, you don't.
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: And then the last thing, and it's the very last um verse of the chapter, which is verse 32.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: And God, obviously, the father is representing God, and he said, We had to celebrate this happy day, for your brother was dead, and now he's come back to life.
- 37:24SPEAKER_03: He was lost, but he is now found.
- 37:26SPEAKER_03: And I wrote, I've written in the side of my Bible a long time ago, fathers celebrate lost children.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: Well, that's good.
- 37:32SPEAKER_03: And that's the heart that we should all have as Christians is that we celebrate lost children when they're found.
- 37:37SPEAKER_03: And sometimes I think you said it on Sunday, sometimes we're like, he doesn't deserve to be saved.
- 37:41SPEAKER_03: She doesn't deserve like, and we're like, no, everyone deserves the grace of God.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:47SPEAKER_03: And we should always celebrate the lost children.
- 37:50SPEAKER_06: And I don't know why, man.
- 37:51SPEAKER_06: I get so emotional when I read this line.
- 37:54SPEAKER_06: The father's response.
- 37:56SPEAKER_06: And it just I mean, what he says to the older son is as impactful as what he said or what he's doing about the younger son.
- 38:06SPEAKER_06: He said, Son, you have always been with me, and everything I have is yours.
- 38:12SPEAKER_06: Like to me, that is like that is the picture of grace.
- 38:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:17SPEAKER_06: That in that this moment where he's acting like a child, I mean he's he's throwing me a temper tantrum.
- 38:23SPEAKER_06: When the father could say, I am outside dealing with this immaturity, yeah, instead of being inside celebrating, I'm out here because I'm inviting you, but son, I'm acknowledging you've always been with me.
- 38:38SPEAKER_06: And every I mean, you talk about the grace of God, everything I have is yours.
- 38:44SPEAKER_06: And I think as followers of Jesus who have played the religious card of God, are you not seeing how I've been faithful?
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:54SPEAKER_06: Are you not seeing like I've I've given, I've come, I've been consistent, I have a star for 52 straight weeks of being here.
- 39:05SPEAKER_06: And he says, Yeah, you've always been with me, and everything I have is yours.
- 39:11SPEAKER_06: I mean, that is to me like the most mind-blown, like in this moment where he could have said, suck it up, here's a whooping, get inside.
- 39:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and it's and it's gonna be one of the moments that we do as a parent, right?
- 39:24SPEAKER_06: Like, say you're sorry and get in.
- 39:26SPEAKER_06: And go inside and hug your brother.
- 39:27SPEAKER_06: Stop acting that way.
- 39:28SPEAKER_06: Go inside, hug your brother, tell him you're happy he's home.
- 39:31SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 39:32SPEAKER_06: He doesn't do that, he says, everything I have is yours.
- 39:35SPEAKER_02: What a powerful statement.
- 39:37SPEAKER_06: Everything I have.
- 39:37SPEAKER_06: Everything I have.
- 39:38SPEAKER_06: I mean, he didn't say, and you know what?
- 39:40SPEAKER_06: And because of this, I'm withholding some responsibilities.
- 39:43SPEAKER_06: Give me back the double portion.
- 39:46SPEAKER_06: He didn't say that.
- 39:47SPEAKER_06: There's nothing here that is not yours.
- 39:51SPEAKER_06: I mean, that is, I mean, I've never said in my set, hey son, everything I have here is yours.
- 39:57SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 39:58SPEAKER_03: But it's true, because they come shop our fridge and take our money.
- 40:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but he ain't never taken my truck.
- 40:03SPEAKER_06: Oh, really?
- 40:04SPEAKER_03: Because he has to borrow it.
- 40:05SPEAKER_03: You said yes.
- 40:07SPEAKER_06: Isn't your truck going to Arkansas?
- 40:10SPEAKER_06: That's different.
- 40:13SPEAKER_06: So I said it to the older son.
- 40:15SPEAKER_06: You're right.
- 40:17SPEAKER_06: Younger son, we're throwing you a party, but you ain't borrow my truck.
- 40:21SPEAKER_06: He didn't say it to the younger son.
- 40:23SPEAKER_06: He said it to the older ones.
- 40:25SPEAKER_06: That is hilarious.
- 40:26SPEAKER_02: That's funny.
- 40:27SPEAKER_02: All right, Kelly.
- 40:29SPEAKER_03: You asked me to pray every week.
- 40:30SPEAKER_03: Mr.
- 40:30SPEAKER_03: Jamie?
- 40:31SPEAKER_03: No, I will.
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: I don't care.
- 40:32SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 40:32SPEAKER_02: Stop acting like the older brother.
- 40:34SPEAKER_03: So I told you one time I tried in my college class that I had to pray.
- 40:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, you did?
- 40:37SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah.
- 40:40SPEAKER_06: Her skirt was probably too short.
- 40:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it was.
- 40:42SPEAKER_03: I probably got sent back to class that day.
- 40:44SPEAKER_03: Happened multiple times.
- 40:45SPEAKER_03: It's fine.
- 40:47SPEAKER_03: God, thank you so much for um a parable that we can learn from your heart, that what your heart is, that beats for the lost children.
- 40:55SPEAKER_03: And God, that when we read this, we that should be our heartbeat as well.
- 41:00SPEAKER_03: That we are looking to seek and to save those who are lost because that's the heart of the Father.
- 41:05SPEAKER_03: So God, I pray that we take this and we our eyes are open to the people that maybe we're looking over, or maybe our family members that we don't want to give grace to.
- 41:14SPEAKER_03: God, I pray that you change our perspective and our mind to see people the way that we you see them in Jesus' name.
