- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. Luna, I think we're ready for a practical new topic today. Luna: Oh, I'm excited. We've learned so much about ordering food and talking about prices. But when the meal is over, I always freeze up. Lucas: Right. So today, we'll learn how to ask for the bill. Simple but crucial. Let's start with the main phrase: 'Hesabu, tafadhali.' That's 'Bill, please.' Lucas: Say it with me: 'Hesabu, tafadhali.' Luna: Hesabu, tafadhali. Lucas: Perfect. 'Hesabu' means bill or account. Let's use it in a sentence. Imagine you're at a café and you're done eating. Luna: Hesabu, tafadhali. Lucas: That's exactly how you'd say it. Now, what if you want to know the total? You'd ask: 'Hesabu ni kiasi gani?' — 'How much is the bill?' Lucas: Listen: 'Hesabu ni kiasi gani?' Luna: Hesabu ni kiasi gani? That's a mouthful but I'll practice. Hesabu ni kiasi gani? Lucas: Great. And remember from our market episode, 'ghali' means expensive. So if the bill is too high, you could say 'Hesabu ni ghali!' but hopefully not. Luna: For sure. I hope the bill is 'rahisi' — cheap. Lucas: Exactly. And honestly, if these episodes have helped you feel more confident when traveling, it means a lot to us. Luna: Totally. It's a small thing but it adds up. Lucas: If today was worth a coffee to you, you can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, no pressure at all. Now back to the bill — let's add one more phrase: 'Ninaomba hesabu.' That means 'I request the bill.' Lucas: Ninaomba hesabu. It's a bit more formal but very polite. Luna: Ninaomba hesabu. Got it. Lucas: So in a real situation, you could say: 'Hesabu, tafadhali. Hesabu ni kiasi gani?' Then after they tell you, you might say 'Asante, hebu nilipe' — 'Thanks, let me pay.' Luna: That's good to know. So let's review today's three main phrases: Hesabu, tafadhali. Hesabu ni kiasi gani? Ninaomba hesabu. Lucas: Perfect. Practice those before your next meal out. Thanks for listening to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. See you next time! Luna: Kwa heri! And don't forget to keep practicing.
