• 1:39
Speaker 3: we are loaded up this morning. Of course, today is
• 1:41
Speaker 3: the second annual Sock Drop as we are taking up
• 1:46
Speaker 3: donations of socks for Union Mission and get Jason Quintrel
• 1:50
Speaker 3: from Union Missions is going to be joined us momentarily.
• 1:52
Speaker 3: Also Rob Reel from ninety six one KWS is here.
• 1:55
Speaker 3: I will tell you it has been I don't want
• 1:58
Speaker 3: to spoil it, but it's been a huge success so far,
• 2:00
Speaker 3: even with the temperatures. We started at seven o'clock this
• 2:03
Speaker 3: morning out on our park and I will let them
• 2:04
Speaker 3: talk about that a little bit later on Red's caravan
• 2:07
Speaker 3: is coming to the Condal Seema Convention Center tomorrow night.
• 2:10
Speaker 3: We'll spend a little time talking about that and a
• 2:12
Speaker 3: lot of changes with KRT here in the Canall Valley.
• 2:14
Speaker 3: Sean Hill, the executive and director of KRT, will be
• 2:17
Speaker 3: stopping by as well, and there's always your phone calls
• 2:19
Speaker 3: and text to welcome. We do want to go to
• 2:21
Speaker 3: the newsroom though, and talk to Jeff Jenkins about yesterday
• 2:24
Speaker 3: in the White Feather and Lance trial. Jeff, good morning,
• 2:27
Speaker 3: Good morning, Dave. Yes.
• 2:28
Speaker 6: So, the defense is continuing to call its witnesses to
• 2:32
Speaker 6: the stand. This is the child abuse, child trafficking trial
• 2:37
Speaker 6: to this husband and wife, Jeannie K. Whitefeather Donald Ray
• 2:39
Speaker 6: Lance arrested in October twenty twenty three when deputies found
• 2:44
Speaker 6: two of their kids locked in a shed. So the
• 2:47
Speaker 6: defense is presenting its case and basically Jeanie K. Whitefeather
• 2:50
Speaker 6: was on the stand yesterday in her own defense again
• 2:53
Speaker 6: spending several hours and just talking about that she was
• 2:57
Speaker 6: more of a frustrated parent. She says she did not
• 2:59
Speaker 6: abuse her children, and they went over several things and
• 3:02
Speaker 6: then there were character witnesses called on her behalf people
• 3:06
Speaker 6: that knew her when she lived in other places and
• 3:10
Speaker 6: saying that she was not a racist. They saw her
• 3:13
Speaker 6: going the extra mile to care for her children. So
• 3:16
Speaker 6: there you have the defense trying to build the case
• 3:18
Speaker 6: that what has been said about her is not true.
• 3:22
Speaker 6: What we expect today is they start, is they resume testimony.
• 3:27
Speaker 6: We expect Donald Ray Lance to take the stand in
• 3:30
Speaker 6: his own defense. So this might be the highlight of
• 3:32
Speaker 6: the day. You may remember Lance was seen on video
• 3:36
Speaker 6: that the jury saw that Jennie K. White Feather took
• 3:40
Speaker 6: of him berating the children over several things. So I'm
• 3:45
Speaker 6: sure he'll be questioned about that, both from the defense
• 3:49
Speaker 6: attorney side and from the cross examination of Connall County prosecutor. So,
• 3:54
Speaker 6: you know, we're taking additional steps here. We'll see where
• 3:59
Speaker 6: it is after today. A if the state is close,
• 4:01
Speaker 6: if the defense is close to resting its case. After
• 4:04
Speaker 6: that there could be rebuttal witnesses, and then you've got
• 4:07
Speaker 6: jury instructions, closing arguments, those things. So maybe by tomorrow,
• 4:11
Speaker 6: but I you know, maybe stretch into next week.
• 4:13
Speaker 7: We'll have to see.
• 4:14
Speaker 3: All right, Jeff, I appreciate it, man, thanks a lot.
• 4:17
Speaker 3: All right, all right, the second Annual w V r
• 4:20
Speaker 3: C Media sock drops happening on our parking not eleven
• 4:23
Speaker 3: eleven Virginia Street East and Charles have benefiting Union missioned.
• 4:26
Speaker 3: Jason Countrel is the CEO, the big guy, the chief CA.
• 4:31
Speaker 3: What's your title there to Jason?
• 4:33
Speaker 8: Yeah, CEO officially, but I will answer to just about anything.
• 4:37
Speaker 3: Okay, late for supper, rob real rock in the old
• 4:40
Speaker 3: school Chicago White Sox hat I had to wear a
• 4:43
Speaker 3: socks I get today. I get that. See what I
• 4:45
Speaker 3: did there, and my wife being from Chicago, the whole
• 4:48
Speaker 3: family are White Sox fans and they are really bad.
• 4:51
Speaker 3: They're really bad. They were the worst team in the matrixes.
• 4:54
Speaker 3: They tried to sign me.
• 4:56
Speaker 9: How bad it well, because you know, two years of
• 4:58
Speaker 9: minor league experience and I've left, so yeah, I could
• 5:01
Speaker 9: have ended up playing on the South side of Chicago.
• 5:03
Speaker 3: It is the baddest part of town. That's what I've heard.
• 5:05
Speaker 3: Did a song about that, I think? All right, So
• 5:07
Speaker 3: we started at seven o'clock this morning, and again, if
• 5:10
Speaker 3: you're not familiar with this, this is our second annual
• 5:12
Speaker 3: sock dropp We're asking for donations of packages of new socks.
• 5:15
Speaker 3: Whether you can give us one package, whether you can
• 5:17
Speaker 3: give us fifty, We'll take whatever you can get. And Jason,
• 5:21
Speaker 3: it's so far and we're only one hour and twelve
• 5:24
Speaker 3: minutes into it. It's been a big success so far.
• 5:27
Speaker 8: Dave. This is my first experience with you guys in
• 5:29
Speaker 8: this sock drop, and I'm telling you it's amazing the
• 5:33
Speaker 8: amount of work you guys have put into this, the
• 5:36
Speaker 8: amount of time you've put into this, and the amount
• 5:39
Speaker 8: of support you've gotten this. I mean, by eight thirty
• 5:41
Speaker 8: we had a couple hundred pairs of socks.
• 5:43
  Speaker 3: Dave.
• 5:43
Speaker 8: That's crazy. Five degrees outside people were pulling giving socks.
• 5:47
Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'll tell you a real quick story. You know,
• 5:49
Speaker 3: this is one of those events. And Rob knows this too,
• 5:51
Speaker 3: that all of our stations are involved and this is
• 5:53
Speaker 3: Rob's baby. But we rope all of us in VA
• 5:55
Speaker 3: one hundred to beat and the mountain, and all of
• 5:58
Speaker 3: our stations are involved in it. So I'm out there
• 6:01
Speaker 3: with Steve Animal on the ninety eight seven a mountain.
• 6:03
Speaker 3: I hang out on the mountain a little bit from
• 6:05
Speaker 3: time to time, and I'm out there with Animal and
• 6:07
Speaker 3: we almost saw Animal get hit and killed by a car.
• 6:11
Speaker 3: If you go over to the Mountain Facebook page or
• 6:13
Speaker 3: also Dave Allen Radio. I shared it out there. We
• 6:17
Speaker 3: almost lost our morning guy there, but that's okay because
• 6:20
Speaker 3: we would have got socks out of it. So that's
• 6:21
Speaker 3: all that matters, right, Well, if you knock him out
• 6:24
Speaker 3: of his socks, it's double the points. I don't know
• 6:26
Speaker 3: that you want animal socks though.
• 6:28
Speaker 9: No, No, those would need to be laundered yea heavily.
• 6:31
Speaker 3: But you know, and Rob, you and I talk about
• 6:33
Speaker 3: this all the time when I have you on, whether
• 6:35
  Speaker 3: it's this, whether it's Turkey Drop, whether it's the Beat's
• 6:38
Speaker 3: backpack attack that we do your walk to Morgantown for
• 6:41
Speaker 3: WVU Children's We got the greatest staying listeners in the world, man,
• 6:45
  Speaker 3: don't we?
• 6:45
Speaker 9: Though it is the reason maybe I came back the
• 6:49
Speaker 9: people in West Virginia.
• 6:51
Speaker 3: I had worked here once.
• 6:52
Speaker 9: Before in the mid twenty teens, and life happens and
• 6:57
Speaker 9: things happen. But when I had the opportunity to them
• 7:00
Speaker 9: back here and do get up real early on ninety
• 7:03
Speaker 9: six to one k WUS, it was because of the
• 7:06
Speaker 9: people in West Virginia. I have I've lived in seventeen states,
• 7:09
Speaker 9: I have been posted to three other countries, and I
• 7:12
Speaker 9: have never ever ever encountered people who are so willing
• 7:18
Speaker 9: to give to their friends and neighbors.
• 7:20
Speaker 3: And of course these are all going to Union Mission. Jason,
• 7:22
Speaker 3: how exactly will once we get them to you? Yes,
• 7:25
Speaker 3: what happens then? I mean, how do these things go
• 7:27
Speaker 3: out to people to wait? Yet?
• 7:29
  Speaker 10: Yeah?
• 7:29
Speaker 8: Well, yeah, so we we have a mins shelter over
• 7:32
Speaker 8: off of Leon Solomon Way that will certainly distribute there.
• 7:35
Speaker 8: But we'll also get on the phone and call some
• 7:37
Speaker 8: other organizations that get involved in homelessness and help folks
• 7:39
Speaker 8: out on the streets, and we'll we'll start getting them
• 7:41
Speaker 8: out immediately to folks that are in need. I mean,
• 7:43
Speaker 8: there are people out right now. I can't imagine just
• 7:45
Speaker 8: a little bit of time I've spent out there, Yeah,
• 7:47
Speaker 8: I can't imagine what they are, how they're living out there,
• 7:51
Speaker 8: how they're how they're existing out there, and it kind
• 7:54
Speaker 8: of it really it breaks my heart and I want
• 7:56
Speaker 8: to I want to get these socks to these people.
• 7:57
Speaker 9: Well, you and I even had a conversation about what
• 8:00
Speaker 9: is homelessness, and anybody who's been in downtown Charleston has
• 8:04
Speaker 9: seen those displaced folks who maybe are trying to camp
• 8:07
Speaker 9: under under overpasses and are down on the trail by
• 8:12
Speaker 9: the Canal River. But we also talked about, you know
• 8:14
Speaker 9: that that mom who has tried to escape an abusive
• 8:17
Speaker 9: situation with her kids and she's CouchSurfing. Yeah, and we've
• 8:20
Speaker 9: talked about, you know, folks who've just had whether it's
• 8:23
Speaker 9: medical or job related things.
• 8:24
Speaker 3: They may be living out.
• 8:25
Speaker 9: Of their car for two weeks, two months, two years
• 8:29
Speaker 9: because they just can't get their feet back under them,
• 8:32
Speaker 9: and so getting them socks pardon the pun, is one
• 8:35
Speaker 9: step closer to getting those folks feet under them.
• 8:39
  Speaker 7: Absolutely.
• 8:39
Speaker 8: You mentioned this morning how that basic need has to
• 8:42
Speaker 8: be met, yep, and that is exactly what you guys
• 8:46
Speaker 8: are doing with this sock drop. I mean basic needs
• 8:49
Speaker 8: of just warmth being met. That's amazing.
• 8:52
Speaker 3: And you can get socks at a variety of places
• 8:55
Speaker 3: and it's not going to set you back a whole lot.
• 8:57
Speaker 3: And by end, if you're working today and maybe you
• 8:59
Speaker 3: didn't have time, we can take cash, sure we can,
• 9:02
Speaker 3: you can. And again it's we make it really easy
• 9:04
Speaker 3: for you because our parking lot is a it's an ellipse.
• 9:08
  Speaker 3: It's an ellipse.
• 9:09
Speaker 7: As the ex wife math teacher, Yes, I tell you it's.
• 9:12
Speaker 3: The it's an ellipse. So basically what that means is
• 9:14
Speaker 3: that doesn't mean it blocks out the sun. What it
• 9:17
Speaker 3: means is is that it pulled that. When you pull
• 9:19
Speaker 3: on our parking lot, you literally go in one side,
• 9:21
Speaker 3: you make a circle. And we got people out there
• 9:24
Speaker 3: all day, whether it's Rob I'll be out there, Stephen, Jenny,
• 9:28
Speaker 3: Woody Woods, all these people. The sales weasels are involved.
• 9:31
Speaker 3: We make everybody out there and you can just hand
• 9:34
  Speaker 3: them to us.
• 9:34
Speaker 9: So on that note, can I tell a quick story
• 9:36
Speaker 9: about Stephanie. Yeah, So Stephanie is a brand new employee,
• 9:40
Speaker 9: like not even officially an employee yet. She is gonna
• 9:43
Speaker 9: come officially start working for us on February third. And
• 9:46
Speaker 9: there's more about that, and you know, I'm not gonna
• 9:48
Speaker 9: lift the curtain. Stephanie insisted on coming today to volunteer
• 9:53
Speaker 9: and be a part of this because she's like, I
• 9:57
Speaker 9: love doing this sort of stuff.
• 9:58
Speaker 3: This is why I want to work here.
• 10:00
Speaker 9: Somebody who is not even on the payroll, yeah yet
• 10:04
Speaker 9: has come to be a part of this.
• 10:05
Speaker 3: So welcome stephan Yeah. She's a South Charleston native who's
• 10:08
Speaker 3: been living in Cincinnati and we got some special projects.
• 10:12
Speaker 3: We're not at Liberty to discuss some things that are
• 10:14
Speaker 3: going to happen in the month of February. Fingers crossed yea,
• 10:18
Speaker 3: and Stephanie's going to be a big part of that.
• 10:19
Speaker 3: But yeah, you're right. I mean, when she found out
• 10:21
Speaker 3: we were doing this, we her start date is February third,
• 10:25
Speaker 3: she said, I want to be a part of this,
• 10:26
Speaker 3: and she showed up to help at seven o'clock this morning.
• 10:29
Speaker 9: If that doesn't sum up the wild and wonderful spirit
• 10:32
Speaker 9: of West Virginia helping West Virginians, I don't know what does.
• 10:34
Speaker 3: All right, So we're gonna be out on the parking
• 10:36
Speaker 3: lot today until six pm. It is going to be sunny.
• 10:41
Speaker 3: The sun's gonna come out, so there is that a
• 10:45
Speaker 3: little sunshine. And I think our good friends over at
• 10:48
Speaker 3: Chick fil A are going to even provide us with
• 10:49
Speaker 3: some lunch for people.
• 10:51
Speaker 9: A great big thank you to Tom and Tim and
• 10:53
Speaker 9: Meghan and everybody at the South Charleston location every week
• 10:56
Speaker 9: on ninety six to one kwus. They are the ones
• 10:59
Speaker 9: who feed our winning workplaces for free lunch Friday, and
• 11:02
Speaker 9: so we're we're subbing that this week to feed our volunteers,
• 11:06
Speaker 9: our people who are on the parking lot all day,
• 11:09
Speaker 9: so and and we may have a little something for
• 11:12
Speaker 9: you while supplies last as you swing through this morning.
• 11:16
Speaker 9: So and I have to say that very carefully because
• 11:19
Speaker 9: there's rules about quid pro quo and we're not handing
• 11:22
Speaker 9: out any quid or anything. But as you come through,
• 11:25
Speaker 9: we might have something a little special for you, a
• 11:27
Speaker 9: little extra something, something for stopping by to drop off
• 11:31
  Speaker 9: some new socks.
• 11:31
Speaker 3: And again it's till six o'clock tonight, folks. We make
• 11:34
Speaker 3: it really easy if we head onto to your local
• 11:35
Speaker 3: dollar store. They're not it's a very inexpensive thing.
• 11:39
Speaker 9: The variety of bags and price tags we have seen
• 11:41
  Speaker 9: has been extraordinary.
• 11:43
Speaker 3: Yes, we talked about one of our listeners, pouted out
• 11:45
Speaker 3: eight is the outlet who's a good advertiser of all
• 11:47
Speaker 3: of our stations here. They had heated socks for how
• 11:50
Speaker 3: much was it rob at one point? Now they may
• 11:51
Speaker 3: not still have them from that What was at one point?
• 11:53
Speaker 3: It was very an expensive that I.
• 11:54
Speaker 9: Wanted to go I want to go dirt cheap because
• 11:56
Speaker 9: I don't remember the number per at the top of
• 11:58
Speaker 9: my head, but it was.
• 11:59
Speaker 3: Yeah, we'reiculously cheap, and you can, and there's a variety
• 12:02
Speaker 3: of places you can go. And if you're on your
• 12:03
Speaker 3: lunch out, Rob and I talked about that a couple
• 12:05
Speaker 3: of days ago. If you get to an hour for lunch,
• 12:07
Speaker 3: I mean you can still you can still go grab
• 12:09
Speaker 3: you some lunch somewhere, but we'll just pull in our
• 12:12
Speaker 3: parking lot and hand us the stuff and and we'll
• 12:14
Speaker 3: take care of it.
• 12:15
Speaker 9: Well, maybe you are like Tracy the star, the straw
• 12:17
Speaker 9: that stirs our office drink around here, and maybe you
• 12:20
Speaker 9: can jump up and start pestering people at work and
• 12:22
Speaker 9: get you know, fives and tens and twenties together, and
• 12:26
Speaker 9: you know, maybe maybe somebody wants to run out and
• 12:29
Speaker 9: buy socks, or maybe somebody just wants to bring a
• 12:31
Speaker 9: big envelope of cash. Green is always the right color,
• 12:34
Speaker 9: and cash is always the right time.
• 12:35
Speaker 8: You can also, if you don't have time for any
• 12:37
Speaker 8: of that, go online www dot we feedpeople dot Com
• 12:41
Speaker 8: and you can donate there and tag it with socks,
• 12:45
Speaker 8: and we will make sure that those socks go in
• 12:47
Speaker 8: the correct hands or feet.
• 12:50
Speaker 3: We could, we could Dyna might drop in MONI. Those
• 12:53
Speaker 3: broadcast schools really pan off, all right, Jason always a
• 12:57
Speaker 3: pleasure to work with you, and you guys do do
• 12:58
Speaker 3: incredible work out there. And Jason, I think, wanted to
• 13:02
Speaker 3: stay the whole hour on the show here because he
• 13:04
Speaker 3: was thinking, well, if I'm in here, then I'm not
• 13:05
Speaker 3: gonna have to be out there.
• 13:06
  Speaker 8: I mean I'm not.
• 13:07
Speaker 3: No, No, I got other things. I got a little disappointed.
• 13:09
Speaker 3: I got other things that I got to get to.
• 13:11
Speaker 9: You wouldn't be the first person Dave's disappointed today today today, Hey,
• 13:15
  Speaker 9: thanks man.
• 13:16
Speaker 3: You know what my answer to that would be. I'm
• 13:17
Speaker 3: not going to say it on a family radio show, though, Ron,
• 13:20
Speaker 3: I'm not going to say that at all. So anyway,
• 13:22
Speaker 3: all right, we got to go, guys. I appreciate you
• 13:24
Speaker 3: being here. Rob, I'll be out on the parking lot
• 13:25
Speaker 3: with you throughout the day. Jason Quintreil, the CEO of
• 13:28
Speaker 3: Union Mission, appreciate you being here as well. It's going
• 13:30

Speaker 3: you for walking through the sock drop there this morning.
• 17:49
Speaker 3: It's pretty amazing what our listeners can do. And like
• 17:52
Speaker 3: I got two hundred pairs of socks already and so
• 17:54
Speaker 3: on an hour and twenty five minutes into this thing.
• 17:57
Speaker 7: Exactly, and you can tell today's the day that you
• 17:59
Speaker 7: need things like this. I mean, what's these temperatures outside?
• 18:02
Speaker 3: Yeah? Exactly? All right. So I've had you on the
• 18:05
Speaker 3: show several times and we talked about the changes coming
• 18:10
Speaker 3: to KRT, and you and I were talking about this
• 18:13
Speaker 3: off the air. What happens is sometimes you talk about things,
• 18:15
Speaker 3: we do news stories on them, and then until it
• 18:18
Speaker 3: actually takes effect, people don't realize that it's here and
• 18:22
Speaker 3: it's affecting people. So for those that may not have
• 18:25
Speaker 3: heard you on the air in the past, well before,
• 18:27
Speaker 3: we talk about the changes that have happened and are
• 18:30
Speaker 3: now being implemented, why the need for said changes exactly.
• 18:35
Speaker 7: So what we did, and we started this process over
• 18:38
Speaker 7: a year ago, is looking at our system, Hey, what works,
• 18:40
Speaker 7: what doesn't work? What changes can we make to essentially
• 18:44
Speaker 7: make our dollar go further, let's be fiscally responsible, but
• 18:47
Speaker 7: that's also make sure that we can do as much
• 18:49
Speaker 7: as we can for our passengers and that We went
• 18:52
Speaker 7: through this process and we called it a comprehensive operational
• 18:54
Speaker 7: analysis to look, hey, what routes are performing well, what
• 18:57
Speaker 7: routes could do a little bit better, and what we
• 19:00
Speaker 7: make to our service to really be sustainable for years
• 19:03
Speaker 7: to come. And so the result there was a recommendation of, hey,
• 19:08
Speaker 7: make these changes to these particular routes. We held three
• 19:11
Speaker 7: public hearings. We got a lot of feedback from the public,
• 19:13
Speaker 7: and I'm really proud our board listened to the public.
• 19:17
Speaker 7: They made some changes, and in October they passed they
• 19:21
Speaker 7: passed a plan that would essentially go into effect come
• 19:25
Speaker 7: early next month, on February ninth, that would make some
• 19:27
Speaker 7: of these changes. And now we're getting closer to that
• 19:29
  Speaker 7: finished day.
• 19:30
Speaker 3: So they haven't actually happened yet. I'm sorry about it.
• 19:32
Speaker 7: I have not happened yet, Okay, February February ninth. Yes,
• 19:34
Speaker 7: So we're we're in the process right now of saying, hey,
• 19:36
Speaker 7: we've got, you know, two and a half weeks to
• 19:38
Speaker 7: do every single thing we can to make sure our
• 19:40
Speaker 7: passengers are informed, they know what the schedule looks like,
• 19:42
Speaker 7: they know what the routes look like, et cetera. So
• 19:45
Speaker 7: when February ninth happens, they're not surprised by anything.
• 19:48
Speaker 3: And I guess the one that's probably Sean getting the
• 19:50
Speaker 3: most attention is the elimination of the Sunday service. Is
• 19:53
Speaker 3: that the one that changed exactly.
• 19:54
Speaker 7: So the big thing we did was come February second,
• 19:57
Speaker 7: will be the last Sunday that KRT operates, So come
• 20:00
Speaker 7: February ninth, there would be no Sunday service with Kart.
• 20:04
Speaker 7: That was something we looked at when we were talking
• 20:06
Speaker 7: about potentially eliminating eleven routes. Instead of eliminating those routes,
• 20:10
Speaker 7: we kept every single route in service. But yes, Sunday
• 20:13
Speaker 7: service does go down, and we were able to look
• 20:15
Speaker 7: at the data and see the ridership on Sundays. There
• 20:18
Speaker 7: was ridership there, but it was substantially lower than on weekdays.
• 20:22
Speaker 3: Well, and unfortunately, and there's always going to be the
• 20:25
Speaker 3: cases where people, As a matter of fact, I have
• 20:27
Speaker 3: a text here it says I'm not a KRT writer.
• 20:29
Speaker 3: Sunday workers need the service to get to work, so
• 20:31
Speaker 3: I'd like to request KRT to reconsider some sort of
• 20:34
Speaker 3: Sunday service, and you're probably hearing a lot of.
• 20:37
Speaker 7: That, sure, And I think the thing that we've proven
• 20:39
Speaker 7: with these public hearings and listening to the public and
• 20:42
Speaker 7: our board being so deliberative in their decisions is we
• 20:45
Speaker 7: don't pretend that that we've got the perfect answer. It's
• 20:48
Speaker 7: tough when you live in a world of budget realities
• 20:50
Speaker 7: and you're trying to make the best decisions you can
• 20:52
Speaker 7: with the limited amount of funds. And this Sunday service
• 20:56
Speaker 7: was the first option we looked at, or sorry, it
• 20:58
Speaker 7: wasn't the first option we looked at, but what we
• 21:00
Speaker 7: landed on as the kind of the lesser evil there
• 21:04
Speaker 7: in our world. So you know, long term, we will
• 21:06
Speaker 7: continue to evaluate these what's working, what's not working, and
• 21:09
Speaker 7: make those changes on a more regular basis. That way,
• 21:12
Speaker 7: it's not so tough where every ten or fifteen years
• 21:14
Speaker 7: you say, hey, here's a huge change at KRT. We
• 21:17
Speaker 7: need to be liquid and keep making changes based off
• 21:20
Speaker 7: what works and what doesn't and what are some of
• 21:23
  Speaker 7: the other changes.
• 21:24
Speaker 3: As I said, the Sunday elimination seems to be the
• 21:26
Speaker 3: one that's getting the most headlines, but what are some
• 21:28
  Speaker 3: of the other.
• 21:28
Speaker 7: Sure, so the Sunday service is getting the most headlines,
• 21:31
Speaker 7: but the eleven routes that were originally proposed to be discontinued,
• 21:35
Speaker 7: we're actually taking those routes and we're keeping them. But
• 21:38
Speaker 7: we did. What we did was reduce the frequency of them,
• 21:40
Speaker 7: so some of them operated twelve or eight times a day.
• 21:43
Speaker 7: Now they might operate four to six times a day.
• 21:46
Speaker 7: And we wanted to keep the routes in the morning
• 21:48
Speaker 7: and then in the evenings to make sure that individuals
• 21:50
Speaker 7: can get to and from work. But recognize that those
• 21:53
Speaker 7: routes were extremely underperforming and over subsidized. I couldn't look
• 21:57
Speaker 7: in the eye and say, hey, this makes sense as
• 21:59
Speaker 7: far as using taxpayer money to continue to run this
• 22:01
Speaker 7: this many times a day. So we did that as
• 22:03
Speaker 7: one step, but also seven of our routes we actually
• 22:06
Speaker 7: are increasing the service because we recognized, hey, these mainline routes,
• 22:11
Speaker 7: eighty seven percent of our ridership happens on four routes.
• 22:14
Speaker 7: So we bumped up seven of those routes to say, hey,
• 22:17
Speaker 7: the routes that are working, let's increase the service and
• 22:19
Speaker 7: continue to get people on those lines.
• 22:21
Speaker 3: So it's not all about eliminating. I mean you're exactually
• 22:24
  Speaker 3: increasing something exactly.
• 22:25
Speaker 7: We're minimizing eleven routes as far as their frequency, but
• 22:29
Speaker 7: we're increasing seven of the routes. So it's a trade
• 22:31
Speaker 7: off of, Hey, we're going to keep what's working and
• 22:33
Speaker 7: bump it up, and the things that aren't working as well,
• 22:35
Speaker 7: we're going to take down.
• 22:37
Speaker 3: We had a text here that says, what about using
• 22:39
Speaker 3: one of the smaller buses as a kind of an
• 22:41
Speaker 3: uber service for those who may need help to work
• 22:44
Speaker 3: also and be able to use their passes for payments.
• 22:46
Speaker 7: Sure, So we have a pilot project that's going on
• 22:49
Speaker 7: right now. You can go online the Apple Store, Google
• 22:52
Speaker 7: Store download car t Plus. Care Ta Plus is a
• 22:55
Speaker 7: program that we are using smaller vehicles. Right now, we're
• 22:58
Speaker 7: using our EIGHTA vans, smaller gray vands you'll see around town.
• 23:02
Speaker 7: But we've also ordered some new shuttle vans and right
• 23:05
Speaker 7: now we have three zones. We have East Charleston, West Charleston,
• 23:07
Speaker 7: and South Hills. We've started that program where individuals can
• 23:10
Speaker 7: essentially get on the app or they can call under
• 23:12
Speaker 7: office and request a ride. We've done it for four months.
• 23:14
Speaker 7: The first month it was like twenty seven people used
• 23:16
Speaker 7: it last month. I'm proud we're up to about fifteen
• 23:19
Speaker 7: hundred people. Wow, twenty seven to fifteen hundred. It went
• 23:22
Speaker 7: up so high in the last four months that we
• 23:24
Speaker 7: report our numbers to FTA and they said, whoa, you
• 23:26
Speaker 7: guys had a typo and they said, well, no, we
• 23:29
Speaker 7: didn't actually like people were actually using the service. And
• 23:31
Speaker 7: we were excited about that. But again, that's going to
• 23:34
Speaker 7: continue to grow and we're going to do that. And
• 23:37
Speaker 7: that was part of this process was, Hey, we're not
• 23:39
Speaker 7: we're not going to take away service, We're going to
• 23:40
Speaker 7: replace it with something in certain instances, in certain areas
• 23:43
Speaker 7: where maybe the frequency of your routes aren't as often,
• 23:46
Speaker 7: but you now have this option to get on an
• 23:49
Speaker 7: app and really we'll live on your schedule as opposed
• 23:51
Speaker 7: to you living on KRTS.
• 23:53
Speaker 3: Talking with Sean Hill again from KRT, but they've alanced

• 24:05
Speaker 3: couple of texts here for you, says I'm not a
• 24:07
  Speaker 3: k r T rider. I have a friend who hires
• 24:09
Speaker 3: for a food service job. They reject candidates if their
• 24:13
Speaker 3: transportation is the bus unfortunate for those people. Can they
• 24:16
Speaker 3: legally do that? I mean, I know you're not an attorney,
• 24:18
Speaker 3: but neither am I.
• 24:19
  Speaker 7: But I don't. I don't think that's fair. For one.
• 24:22
Speaker 3: Well, here here's what I want to bring that up,
• 24:24
Speaker 3: because in a former life, in a past radio station,
• 24:27
Speaker 3: I was one of the ones that did the hiring
• 24:29
Speaker 3: of people, and one of my questions I always asked
• 24:32
Speaker 3: them was do you have reliable transportation? Because radio, you know,
• 24:37
Speaker 3: you gotta have you got to be there no matter what.
• 24:40
Speaker 3: And I was told by our turning maybe it's a
• 24:43
Speaker 3: question for you know, for for the Peytent folks. When
• 24:45
Speaker 3: head back on the show again, I was told by
• 24:47
Speaker 3: an attorney to stop saying that, to stop asking them
• 24:49
Speaker 3: do you have reliable trade? I think it's a fair question,
• 24:52
Speaker 3: but I was told in job interviews do not ask that.
• 24:54
Speaker 3: But so, uh, I mean, that's that's kind of unfortunate.
• 24:57
Speaker 3: If what this text you're saying is true.
• 24:59
Speaker 7: Yeah, it's unfortunate. But look, it's another one of the
• 25:02
Speaker 7: things that we take huge. We value the responsibility that
• 25:05
Speaker 7: we have with the individuals who rely on us to
• 25:07
Speaker 7: get them to work every single day. We don't take
• 25:10
Speaker 7: that lightly. We have reached out to several different instances
• 25:13
Speaker 7: of large, large employers in Kanawha County ng GK spark plugs.
• 25:18
Speaker 7: For one, we started a test program to get our
• 25:22
Speaker 7: route to actually go up there to the to the plant,
• 25:24
Speaker 7: understanding that if there are employee employers who need help
• 25:28
Speaker 7: with getting their employees to their locations, we're interested in
• 25:31
Speaker 7: helping them out there when we can. And we will
• 25:33
Speaker 7: look at it and see, hey, does this work, is
• 25:35
Speaker 7: it being used or utilized, and is it you know,
• 25:38
Speaker 7: fiscally responsible, And we'll continue to do that. But again,
• 25:42
Speaker 7: what KRT and what public transit does for the economy
• 25:45
Speaker 7: can't be understated. There are individuals, you know, if we
• 25:47
Speaker 7: don't operate on a day, there's an impact to Kanawak
• 25:50
Speaker 7: County and it's substantial.
• 25:52
Speaker 3: So, and you had some struggles with the weather, I'm sure,
• 25:55
Speaker 3: as did everybody talk.
• 25:56
Speaker 7: About exactly exactly, so you know, when it gets under
• 25:59
Speaker 7: twenty five degree. For one, we have a warming bus.
• 26:01
Speaker 7: So this morning, if you go down to the city center,
• 26:03
Speaker 7: we don't want people, you know, to experience those cold
• 26:05
Speaker 7: temperatures outside, so that's one thing we do. But also,
• 26:08
Speaker 7: you know, vehicle thirty five foot vehicles do really well
• 26:13
Speaker 7: on snow, but there's not a vehicle you know, in
• 26:15
Speaker 7: the world that does really well on ice. And that's
• 26:17
Speaker 7: what we've experienced these last couple of storms, when the
• 26:19
Speaker 7: temperatures are so low. We had to make that call.
• 26:23
Speaker 7: A couple of days we didn't have service, which is
• 26:24
Speaker 7: really strange for KRT to do that, but I stand
• 26:28
Speaker 7: by that. We think it was a safe decision. We
• 26:30
Speaker 7: have our supervisors to go out and they travel every
• 26:33
Speaker 7: route and then they make a call back to the
• 26:34
Speaker 7: dispatch of hey, is it safe for us to operate,
• 26:37
Speaker 7: and if we don't feel like it is, we're not
• 26:38
Speaker 7: going to put someone in harm. And we we understand
• 26:41
Speaker 7: that if we're on the road, you know, that's a
• 26:43
Speaker 7: that's a large object, you know, sliding around.
• 26:45
Speaker 3: So we're going to as you said, the big bus
• 26:48
Speaker 3: is generally speaking do well, but nothing does well on ice.
• 26:51
  Speaker 7: Exactly.
• 26:51
Speaker 3: I see a lot more SUVs in ditches than I
• 26:54
Speaker 3: exactly then I do regular cars sometimes because people think
• 26:57
Speaker 3: that it's that they're invincible a follow up to the
• 27:00
Speaker 3: text I had earlier when somebody asked about using smaller
• 27:03
Speaker 3: buses they were they wanted me to throw in there
• 27:06
Speaker 3: that they were referring to the after hours and eliminated
• 27:08
  Speaker 3: routes though.
• 27:09
Speaker 7: Exactly yeah, and in a perfect world, and as we
• 27:12
Speaker 7: ramp up the amount of employees and the amount of vehicles,
• 27:15
Speaker 7: we have to make sure that we can complete those routes.
• 27:19
Speaker 7: The big number we're looking at is is someone in
• 27:21
Speaker 7: one of those three zones and currently it's just three
• 27:23
Speaker 7: zones during the test, if they request a ride, what
• 27:25
Speaker 7: is that percent completion percentage? Like they were able to
• 27:28
Speaker 7: hit I need a ride, and it shows up on
• 27:30
Speaker 7: their screen and we're right now we're hovering. I think
• 27:32
Speaker 7: it's around eighty seven percent, which we're pretty happy with.
• 27:35
Speaker 7: But we want to make sure that anytime we turn
• 27:36
Speaker 7: on a new zone, we're able to maintain that level
• 27:39
Speaker 7: of success. We want people to be able to count
• 27:41
Speaker 7: on that service to work. That's what's important people. It's
• 27:43
Speaker 7: great to know it's there, but it has to actually
• 27:45
Speaker 7: work and get you from A to B. And we're
• 27:47
Speaker 7: going to be cognizant of that, and we're going to
• 27:48
Speaker 7: aim to have that service roll out in those areas
• 27:51
Speaker 7: that we're most impacted by these schedule changes.

Speaker 3: If Charleston wants to look and feel more like a
• 28:17
Speaker 3: big city, we should be expanding public transportation, not slashing it.
• 28:21
Speaker 3: Loss of the Sunday service and cutbacks on trolley routes
• 28:24
Speaker 3: are especially devastating for many Charlestonians. I don't think that
• 28:27
Speaker 3: that's something that goes unnoticed by your folks.
• 28:30
  Speaker 7: Yeah, that's we're cognitive that. I mean, we're we're obviously
• 28:33
Speaker 7: huge fans of public transit. It's not exciting or fun
• 28:36
Speaker 7: for us to embrace the realities of Hey, sometimes you
• 28:39
Speaker 7: have to make tough decisions. What we're not going to do, though,
• 28:43
Speaker 7: is put our head in the sand and just ignore
• 28:45
Speaker 7: it until it becomes an even bigger problem for the
• 28:47
Speaker 7: public when these routes have to, you know, change or
• 28:50
Speaker 7: go away long term. The Charney is one of those
• 28:52
Speaker 7: routes that's really important to us, and the service there
• 28:55
Speaker 7: is actually is one of those routes that have expanded
• 28:58
Speaker 7: a little bit. We are cognizant of the fact that
• 29:01
Speaker 7: that's a big tourism thing and people really enjoy coming
• 29:03
Speaker 7: down for that. We just wrapped up the Holly Jolly
• 29:05
Speaker 7: Bradley trolley as part of our holiday season. We had
• 29:08
Speaker 7: about three thousand people that use that service, and those
• 29:10
Speaker 7: are individuals who probably don't ride the bus every.
• 29:12
Speaker 3: Day, but they look part of the experience or the.
• 29:15
Speaker 7: Experience they pay the safety levey hey once a year
• 29:17
Speaker 7: they should be able to get on a bus and
• 29:18
Speaker 7: ride around and see the lights, what.
• 29:20
Speaker 3: Things, you know, Sean. One thing I think is interesting
• 29:22
Speaker 3: we'll wrap up with this, is that a lot of
• 29:25
Speaker 3: younger people. I mean when I turned sixteen, it was
• 29:28
Speaker 3: like I'm looking at the calendar and thinking, when can
• 29:30
Speaker 3: I get my driver's license? You know, the first available
• 29:33
Speaker 3: I think it was Thursdays when they gave the test
• 29:36
Speaker 3: back in you know, eighteen seventy three. When I got
• 29:38
  Speaker 3: a driver's license, I was like, I was thinking, I
• 29:41
Speaker 3: got to get that driver's license. But we're seeing a
• 29:44
Speaker 3: lot of younger people who it's not that big of
• 29:47
Speaker 3: a deal for I mean people twenty twenty one years
• 29:50
Speaker 3: old that don't have it drivers and it's and I
• 29:52
Speaker 3: think it's just a cultural shift. And I say that
• 29:55
Speaker 3: to say this that West Virginia has really put out
• 29:57
Speaker 3: the nets trying to bring younger people in, especially now
• 30:01
Speaker 3: that with remote work you can work from just about anywhere.
• 30:04
Speaker 3: And a lot of people are choosing West Virginia because
• 30:06
Speaker 3: they like the wilderness and they like the access to
• 30:10
Speaker 3: you know, New River Gorge National Park and so on
• 30:12
Speaker 3: and so forth. So have you seen an increase in
• 30:16
Speaker 3: younger people that a thing?
• 30:17
Speaker 7: Or yes? And so we have And so it's not
• 30:19
Speaker 7: it's not just the culture. It's you know, be sixteen
• 30:22
Speaker 7: years old and pay car insurance. That's that's not a
• 30:24
Speaker 7: month sure, let's be honest there. So they're they're the costs.
• 30:27
Speaker 7: There's there's the issues with that. We've seen, you know,
• 30:30
Speaker 7: a real adoption. We've got partnerships with UC and with
• 30:33
Speaker 7: West Virginia State and the amount of students there that
• 30:36
Speaker 7: that make use of KRT is tremendous. We are seeing
• 30:40
Speaker 7: them using the app, the kr T plus you know
• 30:43
Speaker 7: they're going to generation it's easy for them. They get it. Hey,
• 30:45
Speaker 7: if I can ride you know this many times a
• 30:47
Speaker 7: month for this this amount of money compared to the
• 30:50
Speaker 7: insurance and car and gas, it makes sense for them.
• 30:52
Speaker 7: So we appreciate that. And they also they're they're great
• 30:55
Speaker 7: at giving us feedback on what works and what's not
• 30:57
Speaker 7: working with the app.
• 30:58
Speaker 3: All right, so let's kind of recap your So the
• 31:00
Speaker 3: changes are going to take place February the ninth, ninth, Yes,
• 31:04
Speaker 3: February ninth, and so the Sunday service will be eliminated.
• 31:09
Speaker 3: Is there a possibility that at some point if, as
• 31:11
Speaker 3: you said, you look at the numbers and you think, well,
• 31:13
Speaker 3: maybe we could possibly bring this back.
• 31:15
Speaker 7: Sure, I would never say never. We're going to learn
• 31:17
Speaker 7: from what works and what doesn't work. I think again,
• 31:19
Speaker 7: our board, my board has proven that they're going to listen.
• 31:22
Speaker 7: So February ninth, Sunday service will go away February tenth.
• 31:25
Speaker 7: Those routes that are going to be minimized are going
• 31:27

• 31:42

• 35:46
Speaker 3: was told by an attorney when I was in a

Speaker 3: hiring position, do not ask about reliable transportation. And in
• 35:51
Speaker 3: a radio business, that's kind of important. But I was

• 36:55
Speaker 3: over there because it's it's gonna be, uh, it's gonna
• 36:57
Speaker 3: be quite quite busy at the Coddleseum of Conventions.
• 37:00
Speaker 5: And I guess we should have a warm bus that
• 37:01
Speaker 5: we that we launched from here, you know in nineteen
• 37:04
Speaker 5: ninety nine for Roder or something like that.
• 37:05
Speaker 3: Right, So, Jeff, I know you. I wanted you guys
• 37:08
Speaker 3: in here because next to Brian Bradley, you're the two
• 37:10
Speaker 3: biggest Rats fans along with me, of these Reds caravans. Man,
• 37:14
  Speaker 3: they're they're they're awesome. And I'm glad Charleston because they've
• 37:16
Speaker 3: eliminated some stops. I'm so glad, Jeff to Charleston is
• 37:20
Speaker 3: still part of their part of their schedule.
• 37:21
Speaker 6: Well, if they you know, they're based on last year,
• 37:23
Speaker 6: if they do, because it was well attended last year
• 37:27
Speaker 6: at the Civic Center College. Team's going to be a
• 37:29
Speaker 6: little different location there, so they're moving into what they
• 37:32
Speaker 6: called the Theater, but we kind of noticed a little theater,
• 37:35
Speaker 6: you know, and so I think they've changed the name
• 37:36
Speaker 6: of that. But that's that's where it's going to be.
• 37:38
Speaker 6: And the Civic Center did a great job last year
• 37:40
Speaker 6: with it. Uh, And there was a really big crowd.
• 37:44
  Speaker 5: Uh.
• 37:44
Speaker 3: And how mean people you think were there last year? Jeff?
• 37:46
Speaker 5: A couple hundred, I mean maybe up to three maybe
• 37:50
Speaker 5: it was it was just hundreds. It was a lot,
• 37:51
Speaker 5: it was, but I think it was the best attended
• 37:53
Speaker 5: one that we've had in a while.
• 37:54
  Speaker 7: Anyway.
• 37:55
Speaker 6: Yeah, and there's some excitement coming off the twenty twenty
• 37:58
Speaker 6: three year last he wasn't as good for the Reds,
• 38:02
Speaker 6: but they've hired a new manager, Terry Francona, and so
• 38:05
Speaker 6: there's you know, and they still got young players, so
• 38:08
Speaker 6: I think, you know, I think there'll be another good
• 38:10
Speaker 6: crowd there tomorrow. I know whether it's going to be good.
• 38:12
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it should be.
• 38:12
Speaker 5: It should be nice to get by, and we're getting
• 38:15
Speaker 5: a couple of folks here this time. Carson Spears is
• 38:17
Speaker 5: probably the name that most people will recognize. He had
• 38:19
Speaker 5: a nice site. He had a fomin eight record with
• 38:21
Speaker 5: the Reds last year and pitched one hundred and innings,
• 38:23
Speaker 5: so people know who Carson Spears is. Blake Dunn got
• 38:25
Speaker 5: a cup of coffee with the with the team as well.
• 38:28
  Speaker 5: I didn't play a whole lot, but he's figured to
• 38:30
Speaker 5: be in part of the future, may make the roster
• 38:32
Speaker 5: this season. And then Sal Stewart, Jose Franco and Gapper
• 38:35
Speaker 5: will be there as well. Gapper, of course is the
• 38:37
Speaker 5: not a player, but one of the mascots. And then
• 38:39
Speaker 5: Jeremy Ferrell, who's the senior director of player development, will
• 38:42
Speaker 5: be by as well. One thing I wanted to that
• 38:44
Speaker 5: I missed in the first press release is they're giving
• 38:47
Speaker 5: away at every stop. They're giving away tickets to opening
• 38:50
Speaker 5: Day this year. So what we against against the Giants
• 38:55
Speaker 5: is when the is for when the giveaway is going
• 38:57
Speaker 5: to be And what's interesting, or at least I guess
• 39:00
Speaker 5: I'm what's centergistic is the sponsor of the caravan for
• 39:02
Speaker 5: the Reds this year is Cincinnati Children's which is in
• 39:05
Speaker 5: the same network as the w Children's for the Miracle Network,
• 39:09
Speaker 5: So that's kind of interesting that they're being part of that.
• 39:11
Speaker 5: But that's going to be tomorrow. It's going to start.
• 39:13
Speaker 5: You probably want to get there about five. I would
• 39:15
Speaker 5: say the event starts at five thirty. Jeff's done this
• 39:19
Speaker 5: for years, He's done this a long time. So once
• 39:22
Speaker 5: they queue up and start doing the Q and A
• 39:24
Speaker 5: and stuff, it moves pretty quick. I mean, you do
• 39:26
Speaker 5: the Q and A, you get right to the autographs,
• 39:28
Speaker 5: and if you're there with some stuff to get signed,
• 39:30
Speaker 5: you're probably going to get it signed.
• 39:31
Speaker 6: Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, they don't. There's only one year
• 39:34
Speaker 6: that I remember that there were so many people there
• 39:37
Speaker 6: that they had to put a person at the end
• 39:39
Speaker 6: of the line, one of their people who was volunteering
• 39:42
Speaker 6: or working for them, and just said the line ins here.
• 39:44
Speaker 6: But then Brandon Phillips, who is a popular red he
• 39:47
Speaker 6: was on that particular stop and he went back and
• 39:49
Speaker 6: signed everybody see stopping. Yeah, he signed up every bay
• 39:52
Speaker 6: stuff afterwards. So basically, what they'll do if you come,
• 39:54
Speaker 6: what they'll do is they'll get there, they'll do some
• 39:57
  Speaker 6: media interviews, then they'll have a Q and A on
• 39:59
Speaker 6: the age of the players. They'll you know, they'll be
• 40:04
Speaker 6: introduced and then they'll take questions from the audience and
• 40:07
Speaker 6: they'll take and then they then they sit down and
• 40:10
Speaker 6: people come by and they and they sign things and
• 40:13
Speaker 6: you can, they keep it moving pretty quickly. And what
• 40:15
Speaker 6: we do, what they've given us access to do over
• 40:17
Speaker 6: the years, which is really cool, is that after, you know,
• 40:20
Speaker 6: when once people start making their way through the line
• 40:23
Speaker 6: to sign the autograph with their things to get autographed,
• 40:26
Speaker 6: is that we just, uh, we interview the people that
• 40:30
Speaker 6: are there. I mean, we interview the players and they
• 40:33
Speaker 6: slide down to us as they're still signing, and so
• 40:36
Speaker 6: we're basically at the end of the line of the
• 40:37
Speaker 6: signing line, and they and the players just alternate and
• 40:40
Speaker 6: they come down and they answer our questions. We do
• 40:42
Speaker 6: a live broadcast and as they're signing autographs, and we've
• 40:45
Speaker 6: i mean, we've had over the years, man, we've had
• 40:47
Speaker 6: a lot of young players who turned into Red Stars.
• 40:51
  Speaker 3: You know.
• 40:52
Speaker 6: Coop mentioned Sal Stewart, he's the number three prospect in
• 40:55
Speaker 6: the Reds organization. He was here last year too, so
• 40:58
Speaker 6: he makes a second straight trip to Charles and which
• 41:00
Speaker 6: is kind of cool. So we'll talk about him. We'll
• 41:02
Speaker 6: talk to him, and he's an up and coming third baseman,
• 41:06
Speaker 6: power hitter, had a good year last year, so we'll
• 41:09
Speaker 6: talk about him, talk with him about his development and
• 41:12
Speaker 6: so that'll be exciting. And Carson Spears, who will talk
• 41:15
Speaker 6: about the rotation and his opportunity to pitch. You always
• 41:18
Speaker 6: need more than your original five pitchers, and he really
• 41:20
Speaker 6: came on at the end of the year, had a
• 41:22
Speaker 6: really good stretch around for the Reds right handed pitcher,
• 41:25
Speaker 6: and so it'd be good to meet him tomorrow night
• 41:27
Speaker 6: and everybody just talk a little baseball.
• 41:29
Speaker 5: Yeah, And for Reds fans, I think this year you're
• 41:33
Speaker 5: going to be in the same boat that you've been
• 41:34
Speaker 5: in recent past as far as the Reds on other
• 41:37
Speaker 5: media other than radio. When the visual media, I don't
• 41:40
Speaker 5: know that you're gonna be able to find it as
• 41:41
Speaker 5: easily this year as what it should be. So this
• 41:44
Speaker 5: is your home for the Reds. Is where you'll be
• 41:45
Speaker 5: able to listen to all that has been for a
• 41:47
Speaker 5: long time, has been for a long time, and it
• 41:48
Speaker 5: might be your only outlet right now other than the
• 41:50
Speaker 5: National Games. And hey, if you want to stay up
• 41:53
Speaker 5: to date on the guys like Elie de la Cruz,
• 41:55
Speaker 5: see what happens when Matt McLean comes back, and see
• 41:56
Speaker 5: if the Reds can put it back together and maybe
• 41:58
Speaker 5: make a playoff run.
• 42:00
Speaker 7: This is the place you want to hear it from.
• 42:01
Speaker 6: Yeah, And it's always good to connect with listeners. We've
• 42:03
Speaker 6: people who come out to this. Are you get kids,
• 42:06
Speaker 6: you get, you get And it's our listeners too. It's
• 42:09
Speaker 6: five any WC. It's just listeners definitely, and so we
• 42:12
Speaker 6: like to you know, it's great to meet up with
• 42:14
Speaker 6: them again and and uh, you know, be able to
• 42:16
Speaker 6: talk some baseball. And the Reds have always been really
• 42:19
Speaker 6: great about this too, about getting on the air and uh,
• 42:23
Speaker 6: you know, willing to talk, willing to share fans and
• 42:25
Speaker 6: they're always just really impressed about Charleston's turnout and so
• 42:29
Speaker 6: we don't want to disappoint be there tomorrow night.
• 42:31
Speaker 3: And that's one of the things I like about baseball too.
• 42:34
  Speaker 3: I don't think that I'm a I'm a football guy.
• 42:36
Speaker 3: Football one baseball too, But I will tell you there,
• 42:39
  Speaker 3: I don't know, I think there's any other sport that
• 42:41
Speaker 3: does anything similar to this. I mean, you don't and
• 42:44
Speaker 3: I'm the NFL rosters have like fifty five or sixty
• 42:46
Speaker 3: players on them now. But I mean, you don't see
• 42:48
Speaker 3: this in basketball. You don't see the you know, the
• 42:50
Speaker 3: Lakers Caravans. I don't think this is something that and
• 42:53
Speaker 3: most of the major league teams do similar type things
• 42:56
Speaker 3: where they where a barnstorm man and they go out
• 42:58
Speaker 3: to these areas. And the Reds have such a regional following, yes,
• 43:02
Speaker 3: you know, I mean they're huge in Indiana, they're huge
• 43:06
Speaker 3: in the Virginia and Tennessee, and of course you're in
• 43:07
Speaker 3: watch Virginia, Kentucky and obviously in Ohio. So things start
• 43:11
  Speaker 3: tomorrow night.
• 43:12
Speaker 6: Ats five thirty, and you know, usually that's five thirty.
• 43:16
Speaker 6: They'll usually get there right around five thirty. They'll do
• 43:18
Speaker 6: some media interviews and then so their signing probably won't
• 43:21
Speaker 6: start until some time after six usually, but they move
• 43:25
Speaker 6: them through like pretty quickly.
• 43:26
Speaker 3: Yeah. It's it's a science way that they do it.
• 43:28
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 43:29
Speaker 5: Yeah, And we'll get it up on we'll get it
• 43:30
Speaker 5: up on air pretty Uh, we'll get it up on
• 43:31
Speaker 5: air right at six o'clock.
• 43:32
Speaker 6: And usually they have a representatve from their Hall of
• 43:34
Speaker 6: Fame there, they have other reps who kind of travel.
• 43:37
Speaker 5: In fact, they had a traveling Hall of Fame last year.
• 43:39
Speaker 5: If I remember, you could actually see some limited I
• 43:42
Speaker 5: don't know if they'll have that this year or not.
• 43:43
Speaker 5: It wasn't in the press release, so it may not
• 43:44
  Speaker 5: be there.
• 43:45
Speaker 6: Yeah, but there'll be Reds people. You can talk about
• 43:47
Speaker 6: the Reds obviously with a lot of people that are there,
• 43:49
Speaker 6: so it'd be an exciting evening.
• 43:51
Speaker 3: All right, Well, we'll look forward to it and hope
• 43:53
Speaker 3: Spring's eternal. This is the year for the Red Machine,
• 43:56
Speaker 3: right guys, right right, right, Sure.
• 44:00
Speaker 5: The countdown until they lose Elli is on, so they better.
• 44:02

Speaker 3: have to say I don't play much of a fanboy
• 47:45
Speaker 3: when it comes to meeting celebrities because I have met
• 47:47
Speaker 3: a ton of them and I'm just kind of like, yeah, Okay,
• 47:49
Speaker 3: they meet him, it's fine. But doing a Red's caravan
• 47:52
Speaker 3: years ago at another radio station when Marty Brenneman came in,
• 47:56
Speaker 3: I never asked for my picture to be taken with
• 47:59
Speaker 3: any Reds player, any manager, or whatever, except for Marty Brannaman.
• 48:03
Speaker 3: That's the guy that I wanted to meet, and I
• 48:05
Speaker 3: went all fanboy over Marty Branneman. Texas Great American Ballpark
• 48:10
Speaker 3: is nice, but Riverfront Stadium was the best, says a Texter. Texays,
• 48:15
Speaker 3: how about the Shells Shelley saying it's time to move
• 48:18
Speaker 3: on from Trump, Partney the J six police assaulters. I
• 48:20
Speaker 3: think she's scared of being primaried. She's got opposition already
• 48:24
Speaker 3: in the primary if she doesn't go along with Trump's orders.
• 48:28
Speaker 3: Chilly Capito worked all these years to get the Senate
• 48:31
Speaker 3: to get to this and only to relinquish her influence
• 48:33
Speaker 3: and become a rubber stamp. I guess I can understand
• 48:36
Speaker 3: those She needs the public office to keep increasing her
• 48:39
Speaker 3: private wealth, says a Texture Texas, Dave, I think we've
• 48:43
Speaker 3: entited an era where things being fair for the worker
• 48:46
Speaker 3: no longer exists. Texays Dave, you haven't heard remote work
• 48:50
Speaker 3: is going the way of the dinosaurs. Those areas of
• 48:52
Speaker 3: West Virginia experiencing a little boost from remote work, Well,
• 48:55
Speaker 3: they better find another basket for their eggs. President MacDonald
• 48:58
Speaker 3: Trump and his only art you want their laborers back
• 49:01

• 49:04
Speaker 3: ever seen a president work so quickly to fulfill his
• 49:06
Speaker 3: promises to the American people? This is how a president
• 49:09
Speaker 3: should work for all of us. Thank you, President Trump.
• 49:13
Speaker 3: Speaking of Shelley Moore Capito, she was on talk Line
• 49:15
Speaker 3: yesterday with TJ. Meadows and Dave Wilson. Interesting conversation. If
• 49:18
Speaker 3: you get an opportunity to go back and listen to
• 49:20
Speaker 3: a couple of things. One thing. She said, she is
• 49:24
Speaker 3: unconvinced that the executive order issued by President Trump will
• 49:27
Speaker 3: stand up in court, the one about birthright. Twenty two
• 49:32
Speaker 3: states have sued. They announced it shortly after the eos
• 49:37
Speaker 3: went out that they would be suing. In fact, the
• 49:39
Speaker 3: first case is doing court in Seattle today. It'll probably
• 49:43
Speaker 3: end up in the Supreme Court. Also, as the texture
• 49:46
Speaker 3: previous sexture reference, Senatra Cappado kind of alluded to the
• 49:52
Speaker 3: fact that she wasn't she didn't know that President Trump
• 49:55
Speaker 3: was going to be issuing blank pardons to the j
• 49:58
Speaker 3: six offenders. Interesting story. Go back and listen to the
• 50:00
Speaker 3: interview with Senator Capitot. Read the story that Brad did
• 50:03
Speaker 3: at wv metro News dot com. And on another note,
• 50:06
Speaker 3: Hoppy Kerchieval back on talkline today, please go read his commentary.
• 50:12
Speaker 3: It's it's on the website. I heard it on my
• 50:14
Speaker 3: drive end this morning. The title of the commentary is
• 50:17
Speaker 3: Trump's erosion of the rule of law, which should kind
• 50:20
Speaker 3: of tell you what direction that the goat decided to
• 50:24
Speaker 3: go in this morning. It's it's must read material. It's
• 50:28

Speaker 3: out at Dave Island showing five eighty Live, brought to

• 50:48
Speaker 3: caravan five years ago, I only wanted one autograph on
• 50:51
Speaker 3: my Red's hat. Marty obliged, and I thanked him for
• 50:54
Speaker 3: all those broadcasts I listened to on five eighty driving
• 50:57
Speaker 3: home after Power Games Extra, TJ Meadows. You a big
• 51:01
  Speaker 3: baseball guy.
• 51:02
Speaker 15: TJ love the Reds. Grew up on the Reds, was
• 51:04
Speaker 15: raised a Reds fan.
• 51:05
Speaker 3: Absolutely, Okay, it's kind of it's in And I've noticed
• 51:08
Speaker 3: that in southern West Virginia we tend to gravitate more
• 51:11
Speaker 3: toward the Reds. North northern West Virginia it tends to
• 51:14
Speaker 3: be more more pirates. They like the bucks up that way.
• 51:16
Speaker 3: It's understandable. It's kind of the local, local team. What
• 51:19
Speaker 3: do you got on talk line today?
• 51:20
Speaker 15: By so as you said, the Dean is going to
• 51:21
Speaker 15: stop by, and that question, Dave, look it's or that
• 51:24
Speaker 15: thought that he expressed about the rule of law. It's
• 51:26
Speaker 15: a debate that needs to be had and we need
• 51:29
Speaker 15: to talk about and Trump is doing that. He is
• 51:32
Speaker 15: violating the rule of law. I tend to agree with
• 51:34
Speaker 15: the Dean on that, but we'll get into it and
• 51:36
Speaker 15: talk with him. Former US Attorney Elonfeld Bill Ellenfeld joins us,
• 51:41
Speaker 15: coming up at ten thirty. We'll talk about his tenure
• 51:43
Speaker 15: in the office. Brad at ten o six, the governor
• 51:45
Speaker 15: has a presser today talking about the economy again. But
• 51:49
Speaker 15: I have a feeling budget is going to come up.
• 51:51
Speaker 15: You know, people are saying, hey, what's going on? And
• 51:53
Speaker 15: now the latest to kind of scratch the head is
• 51:54
Speaker 15: House Speaker Roger Hanshaw, So we'll get into that as well.
• 51:58
Speaker 15: Jeff Jenkins stops by at a twenty three. We're going
• 52:01
Speaker 15: to talk about the trials that are ongoing. But here's
• 52:03
Speaker 15: a big one. A columnist for the Richmond Times, Jeff Shapiro,
• 52:07
Speaker 15: says that we should get back together with Virginia, rekindle
• 52:11
Speaker 15: the marriage, and he's making a case for Governor Younkin
• 52:15
Speaker 15: to take us over for lack of a better description,
• 52:19
Speaker 15: So we'll we'll talk with him and find out what's
• 52:21
Speaker 15: rolling around in that head of his and probably telling
• 52:23
  Speaker 15: me he's crazy.
• 52:24
Speaker 3: All right, it should be interesting. I don't know how
• 52:26
Speaker 3: I feel about that. I know how I feel about it. No, yeah, exactly.
• 52:30
Speaker 3: We got it right in eighteen sixty three, and I'm
• 52:32
Speaker 3: completely I'm completely good with that. Going on tomorrow's show,
• 52:35
Speaker 3: Hannah Gardner from a Canal Charleston Newmain Association, more on
• 52:37
Speaker 3: the Hunting and Fishing Show, and Steven Keith, the Food
• 52:39
Speaker 3: Guy on Restaurant Week in Charleston. Next week, Talk Town
• 52:43
Speaker 3: coming up with ten oh six. I'll see you tomorrow too.
• 52:44
Speaker 3: Then have fun and love somebody.
• 52:58
Speaker 4: Fuck HM six point five at Them Charleston one oh
• 53:01
