Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome aboard everybody. It's signed for the Yukon Football Coaches Show,
- 0:04Speaker 1: we get together with Jim Moore every Tuesday six pm
- 0:07Speaker 1: on the Yukon Sports Network and we're going to talk
- 0:09Speaker 1: to a couple of players as well. Malaka MacLean will
- 0:12Speaker 1: join us out of the secondary and Ben Morosky the
- 0:16Speaker 1: tackle for Yukon. Where's number seventy seven. We'll talk to
- 0:19Speaker 1: coach about these guys too, But first, coach, let's get
- 0:23Speaker 1: to two and two. That was the job. That was
- 0:25Speaker 1: the goal at home on the weekend, and the Huskies
- 0:28Speaker 1: accomplished that. It was not easy, and I don't know,
- 0:32Speaker 1: sometimes in the coach's mind, do you do you feel like, Okay,
- 0:36Speaker 1: we had to work harder. Maybe that's good for us.
- 0:39Speaker 2: When you win a game and you don't play up
- 0:42Speaker 2: to your capabilities, it can always be a really good
- 0:45Speaker 2: thing from a coaches standpoint because it can bring you
- 0:50Speaker 2: back to reality very quickly and it gives you things
- 0:54Speaker 2: that you can stress. Our team, fortunately, has made up
- 0:58Speaker 2: a bunch of guys that, like I don't have to
- 1:00Speaker 2: say a lot. They know when when we perform well
- 1:04Speaker 2: and they know when we haven't. And you know, listen,
- 1:08Speaker 2: in the locker room as I'm talking to the team
- 1:10Speaker 2: after the game on Saturday, typically when they bring it
- 1:14Speaker 2: up to me, you know, the kind of the way
- 1:16Speaker 2: the locker room set up. The offense is on one
- 1:18Speaker 2: side of me and the defense is on the other
- 1:20Speaker 2: side of me, and I'm trying to talk to both
- 1:22Speaker 2: of them and talk to the team, and I could
- 1:24Speaker 2: just I could feel the disappointment out of our defense
- 1:29Speaker 2: in the way that they that we played the way
- 1:32Speaker 2: we performed on Saturday. And I could hear them saying
- 1:35Speaker 2: little things as I spoke, like reconfirming what I was saying,
- 1:39Speaker 2: and so you know, I knew that they'd taken it seriously.
- 1:42Speaker 2: And I'm trying to say, listen, win, a win, any win,
- 1:46Speaker 2: is a great win, Ton to learn, Ton to get
- 1:48Speaker 2: better at, Yeah, coach, and damn right, you know I
- 1:50Speaker 2: mean so yeah, Mike, to get back your to your question,
- 1:54Speaker 2: I mean, sometimes winning, winning when you don't play your
- 1:57Speaker 2: best is just a great chance to refocus your energies,
- 2:02Speaker 2: which is much more fun to do than after a loss.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I can tell you that, Yeah, we learned that the
- 2:07Speaker 1: previous two weeks when you so much went well with
- 2:11Speaker 1: the final bottom line was not what you were looking for.
- 2:14Speaker 1: You got off to a ten point lead. I think
- 2:16Speaker 1: you had a couple of ten point leads in the game.
- 2:18Speaker 1: You get the big breakaway touchdown by Cam Edwards. Let's
- 2:22Speaker 1: start with the offense. This offense has been moving the
- 2:25Speaker 1: ball and ripping up yardage through the air on the ground.
- 2:30Speaker 1: What would you say after looking back at what you
- 2:33Speaker 1: you know on tape, what you saw a Saturday in person,
- 2:37Speaker 1: about how the offense is functioning in that particular game
- 2:40Speaker 1: against ball State.
- 2:42Speaker 2: I think my expectations have really risen with that group
- 2:45Speaker 2: to the point where if we don't put points on
- 2:46Speaker 2: the board on a drive or at least get you know,
- 2:49Speaker 2: two or three first downs, there's a feeling of disappointment.
- 2:53Speaker 2: And I don't think I'm the only one that has
- 2:55Speaker 2: those feelings. I think all of our players share that feeling,
- 2:57Speaker 2: and I think that that's a good things. You know
- 3:00Speaker 2: that we're reaching new heights and trying to do things
- 3:02Speaker 2: better than we've ever done it before. So that's how
- 3:05Speaker 2: I feel. But I also feel at the same time
- 3:07Speaker 2: that that we're balanced, and you and I have talked
- 3:10Speaker 2: about what balance means to me. You know, we're able
- 3:12Speaker 2: to run the ball effectively and throw the ball effectively
- 3:15Speaker 2: when we need to do either. And I think we've
- 3:17Speaker 2: reached a pretty good spot where we're balanced. But uh,
- 3:22Speaker 2: I think there's just so much more out there for us,
- 3:24Speaker 2: you know, And I guess it's a good thing, you know,
- 3:29Speaker 2: to feel like the expectations and the standards have risen
- 3:33Speaker 2: and we have to now go we have to go
- 3:35Speaker 2: meet those standards in those expectations and uh So to me,
- 3:40Speaker 2: that's you know, it's a it's another thing that that
- 3:42Speaker 2: is a positive that can come out of a win
- 3:45Speaker 2: that wasn't necessarily beautiful. Oh. I think sometimes when you
- 3:49Speaker 2: when you say, hey it was we didn't play well,
- 3:52Speaker 2: you're you're you're not giving enough respect to your opponent either.
- 3:56Speaker 2: You know, ball State is a tough football team and
- 3:59Speaker 2: uh you know, they're physical and they play the game
- 4:02Speaker 2: the way you're supposed to play it. So I don't
- 4:04Speaker 2: want to take away from them at all. But with
- 4:06Speaker 2: regards to us, which is my concern, you know, there's
- 4:08Speaker 2: a lot left out there for us and we've got
- 4:11Speaker 2: to go get it.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes I think you start to measure your team,
- 4:14Speaker 1: you know, you can you can tell me if this
- 4:16Speaker 1: is correct or not. But you kind of measure your
- 4:18Speaker 1: team by where you're at in terms of wins losses,
- 4:22Speaker 1: how you played to get there, and I like where
- 4:25Speaker 1: you cons at and I know you're never you're not
- 4:27Speaker 1: going to be satisfied by it, but you know, really
- 4:30Speaker 1: think about it, two and two two losses that probably
- 4:33Speaker 1: could have been wins, weren't. You have to kind of
- 4:37Speaker 1: take things as you as you see them almost week
- 4:40Speaker 1: to week, don't you.
- 4:42Speaker 2: You do? You know, you can't worry about the past.
- 4:45Speaker 2: You got to learn from it and you got to
- 4:46Speaker 2: apply those lessons and move on. But you can't live
- 4:48Speaker 2: in the past. You can let it fuelion motivate you.
- 4:51Speaker 2: You know, when you come close and you don't get
- 4:52Speaker 2: it done against the Syracusean, against a Delaware you know,
- 4:57Speaker 2: and you have to have the resolve to say, those
- 4:59Speaker 2: things aren't going to happen, and how do we make
- 5:00Speaker 2: sure they don't happen again? What steps, what actions do
- 5:03Speaker 2: we take to make sure that don't happen. But we
- 5:05Speaker 2: are where we are, We're tuned too. We've got a
- 5:07Speaker 2: lot of opportunities left in front of us. We've just
- 5:09Speaker 2: got to maximize those. And you know, it's all about Mike.
- 5:13Speaker 2: You know a lot of coaches speak but take it
- 5:15Speaker 2: one day, one play at a time, and just try
- 5:20Speaker 2: to get better. And if you do that, you know,
- 5:23Speaker 2: it's they say eat the elephant, one bite at a
- 5:25Speaker 2: time or something like that. You know, don't worry about
- 5:28Speaker 2: the big picture. Let's just bring it down to what
- 5:30Speaker 2: we can control in that moment. And that's that's continually
- 5:33Speaker 2: what you're stressing to your players. One of the things
- 5:36Speaker 2: that made makes out a little bit more difficult this
- 5:38Speaker 2: day and age is you know, social media, access to information,
- 5:42Speaker 2: you know, always having a phone in your hand, you know,
- 5:45Speaker 2: attention spans maybe not always being what they once were. Uh,
- 5:49Speaker 2: But our guys I think they really understand it. They
- 5:52Speaker 2: try really hard to stay in the moment.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Yeah, that's probably one of the biggest parts of your
- 5:56Speaker 1: job these days is to keep guys in the moment.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Back with Moore with Jim Moore, this is the Yukon
