- 0:09happened to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30It's Sunday so it's a later start.
- 0:32Girls are already out here eating their pasta and today we
- 0:37are talking about the fact that Punxsutawney Phil just saw his
- 0:42shadow. So I guess we have 6 more weeks
- 0:44of winter, which doesn't thrill anybody when you hear it.
- 0:47But what's really funny was I was going to talk about
- 0:49something completely different, but I was watching the whole
- 0:52ceremony and it really struck me about how excited this old
- 0:58tradition is and how these things make people so happy,
- 1:01these little tiny things and being able to tell.
- 1:04And then I thought, OK, well, is it really real?
- 1:06Like, does this this this Groundhog really predicted the
- 1:10winter? And do we really buy into things
- 1:13and what we buy into? And it's very interesting
- 1:16because I did the research going, you know, immediately to
- 1:20the Internet to find out, and there was a reporter who did a
- 1:23whole thing about it. And for where Punxsutawney Phil
- 1:26lives in Punxsutawney, PA, he is 80% accurate, which cracks me
- 1:32up. And furthermore, this has been
- 1:34going on so long and it's so interesting.
- 1:37And you watch them all dress up and it's all very elaborate and
- 1:41the whole thing. And they read the scrolls.
- 1:43And it's so driven by tradition. And it just makes me realize
- 1:47again how we are such creatures of habit, absolute creatures of
- 1:52habit. We love our traditions.
- 1:54We love the things that allow us to feel connected, and this is
- 1:59one of them. And I am right in the midst of
- 2:02that this spring coming out and we're, you know, cleaning out
- 2:05the garden, redesigning things every year.
- 2:08For me, it's just like a little bit of all right, tweaking,
- 2:11let's do this, let's try this, let's do something different.
- 2:14And all of that is just part of that ritual of springtime.
- 2:18So since it's the beginning of February, we have to back up and
- 2:23ask ourselves, OK, we're getting in that slushy area where we
- 2:27definitely want the winter to be done, where where we feel like
- 2:31we're done hibernating. We want to come out and we can
- 2:35get frustrated very quickly. And we have to look for the
- 2:38habits of that so that they don't become something that are
- 2:42taking over. Like just keep an eye on that.
- 2:44This is not what this is about, but just keep an eye on that
- 2:46because that can happen where you're just like.
- 2:48Oh, I just want it to be done. I want it to be done.
- 2:49I want it to be done and. You're so focused on what you
- 2:51want it to not be that you forget what you can look at.
- 2:55So right now the, the, the things that you can look at in
- 2:59the ritualistic part of this is, OK, what are the things this
- 3:03time of year, things you to do? What are the things that you can
- 3:06be ready to do? Like so for me, it's buying the
- 3:09seeds, you know, cleaning up all the gardens and getting them
- 3:13ready. But this year I'm like, we're
- 3:14really digging into it. Mark is helping me and we are
- 3:17pulling out, We're burning the edges so that we don't have
- 3:21these. We have this invasive weed here
- 3:22that's terrible. And we're getting rid of that,
- 3:26trying some different things, non chemical.
- 3:29I'm completely organic here and trying some different things to
- 3:32get rid of it. But he's going to also burn the
- 3:34edges. We're going to do cloth around
- 3:36the edges to make sure that part, that the cloth, the ground
- 3:39cloth to make sure that it's protected so that it can't get
- 3:42into the garden this year. And just going through all of
- 3:47those little tiny things, the cleanup, the spring cleanup is
- 3:52it just feels so good. And even though it's cold and
- 3:55I'm wearing a winter hat out here and it boots and mittens, I
- 4:00am thrilled that I'm on the cusp of it and I'm relishing the time
- 4:04that I have. If it is another six weeks, it's
- 4:07OK. I'm going to start the seeds
- 4:08inside. I'm going to go through all the
- 4:10little things that matter in my world to make me feel like I'm
- 4:15on tap task with it all and set it up so that it feels
- 4:19incredibly good. So point is, as I'm talking
- 4:23about this and as you're hearing this, I want you thinking about
- 4:26those rituals that you can start to put into play.
- 4:29If you have some, great. And if they're healthy, even
- 4:32better. If they're not, let's get rid of
- 4:34them. And if you haven't gotten any,
- 4:37figure out which ones that you really want to start to employ,
- 4:40put together and get out there. Because it does make a world of
- 4:44difference, my friends, when you feel like you can do that.
- 4:47I mean, it makes a world of difference.
- 4:49It it puts you on a path of being super productive and
- 4:53feeling like, OK, I'm on task, I'm ahead of the game.
- 4:56And even if you're a procrastinator, this is one of
- 5:00those times that you can look at it and say, well, nature's
- 5:03letting me know that it's time to start looking at things and
- 5:08start time to start setting up my wins.
- 5:10So I hope you guys work on that and I hope you have a blessed
- 5:13day and I will see you all tomorrow.
- 5:15Bye.
