- 0:00SPEAKER_00: So something that's been bothering me since last week.
- 0:02SPEAKER_02: What's that?
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: I referenced Janet Jackson's liner notes.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Her boobies.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Because the cover is her like this, right, with her hands up.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: And I distinctly remember inside the liner notes, it was somebody holding.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: On her boobies.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 0:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: So, okay.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: I Googled it.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: I tried to find it.
- 0:29SPEAKER_02: You
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: can't find it?
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: I cannot find it anywhere.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: So now I'm second guessing myself.
- 0:33SPEAKER_02: Like the Mandela effect?
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Like the Mandela effect.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Oh, man.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Now, I remember standing outside of my elementary school.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: I don't even want to ask.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: As a child.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: And my friend, Chris...
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: I distinctly remember him showing me that.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: I remember where I was standing outside of the kindergarten room.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: That's where the buses let us off.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: It wasn't a weird thing.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: You
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: were like, hey, kids, look at this.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: But
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: you couldn't find it?
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: I couldn't find it anywhere.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Turn off the safe search.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Should I look
- 1:14SPEAKER_02: right now?
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: I don't want you to touch your phone.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: We get lost in our phones.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 1:18SPEAKER_02: You're right.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: You're right.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: You're
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: right.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: You're right.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Because the only reason I say it like that is because if you do, I'm going to jump on my phone.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: And then that's that.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: It's going to be a whole thing.
- 1:27SPEAKER_02: And then that's more editing.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: More
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: editing.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: You know, we'll be here until midnight.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: I can't
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: do that.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: So I guess gapintheninetiesatgmail.com, if you remember what
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: I
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: remember.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: There was totally boobies.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: With hands on boobies.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Or if you can send us a picture of the liner notes.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Not your boobies.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Not your boobies.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Again, within reason.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: No, seriously.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: If you have a picture, if you have a copy of the CD, I guess I could also just order the CD on eBay.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: It was like four bucks.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Someone I know has the CD.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Where's the fun in that?
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Let's track this thing down.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: And also, it doesn't help the whole Super Bowl...
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: show thing.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: Maybe that's it.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Maybe it was like, okay,
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: nowhere can you find her nipple.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Well, the thing is, like, that's 90% of what comes up, and then, like, picture of the album, like, I can't find it.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Did you
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: Google liner notes?
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Well, that's what I Googled.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: I didn't just Google Janet Jackson boob.
- 2:34SPEAKER_02: Hands on boobs.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Because I'm not 10 anymore.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: I would probably Google.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Oh, I did, like, every variation.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: I can't even Look.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Take 30 seconds.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Check it out.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: See what you can find.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: So we have her face.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: More of her face.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: I saw her stomach in one picture.
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: Her amazing curls.
- 2:55SPEAKER_02: Oh, I got some armpits.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:58UNKNOWN: No boobies.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: I don't even want boobs.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: I want hands.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Because that's what it was.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: It was hands on her boobs.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: That's exactly
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: right.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: It wasn't her boobs.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: That's weird.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Nothing, right?
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: No.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: No.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:08UNKNOWN: Okay.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: So gapoftheninetiesatgmail.com.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: I got a shirt.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: I'll take that.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: I'll take that.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: It's hands on boobies.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: So we can agree it existed because it was bothering me.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, I didn't spend like my day on it, but I spent enough time...
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: That it distracted me from other things that I was trying to, you know, when your wife's like, what are you doing on your phone?
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: And
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: you're like, just let me just find the boobs.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: I'm just trying to
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Google Janet Jackson's boobs.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Let me just get
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: the boobs.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: So I'm finding lots of shirts.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: So that leads me to believe that it was a thing.
- 3:46SPEAKER_02: It existed.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: Oh, it was a Rolling Stone cover.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: Was it?
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: Oh
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: man, I like very much
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: remember it being in the
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: liner
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: notes.
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: But it's the same headshot.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Yes, right?
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Okay, again, gapinthe90gmail.com.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: If you remember it being in the liner notes, let us know.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: You can also go on our social media, Facebook, Instagram.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Threads.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Leslie may have mentioned something in the past about threads or Germany.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: Whatever.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: So today, yeah, that's been bothering me.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah,
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: well, now we know.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: But do we?
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: No.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Because I feel like that Rolling Stone thing kind of left a cliffhanger.
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it did.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: And I put my phone down because I didn't want you
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: to yell at me.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because, again, yeah.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: So we'll find out.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: We'll find out.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: So yeah, that really bugged me.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: But we'll find out.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: And then just, I guess, one other thing before we start.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Episode 10.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: This is episode 10.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: This is
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: double digits and I just wasted time.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: It's okay.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: We got all the time in the world.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Only, this got cut off last time.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Only 17% of podcasts make it past episode, make it to episode 10?
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: I think it was past episode 10.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: Past episode 10.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: We're at 10.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: This
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: is 10.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: This is a milestone.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: This
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: is double digits.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: This is double digits.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: Well, I texted Rebecca the other day and I was like, listen, because she's busy.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: We're listening to the Scandal podcast.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Obviously.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: And so I was like, hey, if you are bored, listen to episode eight.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: I'm talking about my junior year and I'm talking about Baskin Robbins.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: And she was like, eight?
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: She was like, how did that happen?
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Shouldn't have to be bored, Rebecca.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: To listen.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: To listen.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: When you're cool like that, you have other things to do.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: I very much get it.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: I've met a cool person or two in my day.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: They are not listening.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: One or two.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: But we do have our listeners.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: We
- 6:13SPEAKER_02: have some solid listeners.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Loyal listeners.
- 6:17SPEAKER_02: What did I say?
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: 12 more states or 16 more states to go before
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: we hit 50?
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: I think it was 16 to go.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: That's a big deal.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Well, I was really excited because I was like, oh, we have 16 states.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: And you were like, to go.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: And I was like, no, to go.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: That's huge because there's 50 nifty
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: United
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: States.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: 50 minus 16.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: So 34.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: Plus we got Washington, D.C.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: today.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: District
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: of Columbia.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Yes, huge.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: Episode 10.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: I mean, this is just what we...
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: That is exciting.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: We could only have dreamed of this.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: I'm
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: proud of us.
- 6:56SPEAKER_02: I am too.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: We had a lot of big ideas in the
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: day.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: A lot of big ideas.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: I'm guessing most listeners know us.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: It's...
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: This is a lot.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: It's a lot to stay on track, stay focused.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: I
- 7:14SPEAKER_02: would say our attention span together is maybe a quarter
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: of the average human.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: That goldfish on my counter is...
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: The
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: dead goldfish.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: Poor Ranger.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Oh,
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: Ranger.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, we're doing good.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: We're trucking.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: We're going to keep going.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: I'm excited about it.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: I am, too.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: Before we know it, we'll be talking about episode 20.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Episode 50.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Episode 100.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this is great.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: We're going to be making
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: guest appearances.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: Or something like that.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: We are due for a guest appearance.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: I know, I was thinking that.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: To have somebody a guest on.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: I was thinking that.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: So maybe next time we can...
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: So for those who don't know, which is probably everybody outside of this room right now, we kind of just choose the topics during the week.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: Based on...
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: based on whatever comes up.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, whatever we're thinking about at that moment.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, we can start scheduling.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: Do you have people that
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: you know want to be on it?
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: No one has approached me and asked to be on it.
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: But I've asked people if they'd have interest, and everyone I have has been pretty interested.
- 8:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: I definitely have friends that are interested.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: The one that is very 90s with me, Kate, she's like, no, man, I don't even know how you do that.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: But she's a big fan.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: But how do we do what?
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: We just talk.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: She said it would be like stage fright.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I think the first one a little...
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: The first one was a little weird.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: When I give the intro, if there's a third person here, it's weird for me.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: But beyond that, it's literally just talking.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: So...
- 9:06SPEAKER_02: And banging microphones.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: And banging microphones.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: Get it out of the way.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: So that being said, today we are talking about board games in the 90s.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: And we both discovered the same thing.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: Yes, we did.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: We'll get into that a little bit.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: So speaking of which, let's just get into it.
- 9:31UNKNOWN: Okay.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Generation Gap in the 90s, the podcast where a Gen X girl and a millennial guy dive deep into the decade that defined us.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: From OJ to Y2K, VHS tapes to the dawn of the DVD, we're revisiting movies, music, and events that shaped a generation, or in our case, two generations.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: I'm Will here with my co-host Leslie.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: Leslie.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: And as we discussed, we are going to talk about board games.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: Now, I want you, Leslie, to think of...
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: A time, a simpler time.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: A simpler time we refer to as the 90s.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Now, the board games you were playing were probably a little different than the ones I was playing because of the generation gap.
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: Yes, but I don't know if they were.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: Well, something I just thought of earlier was...
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: You probably played a lot of my games that I was playing while you were babysitting
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: kids.
- 10:39SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: Because I definitely have ones in my head that I played when I babysat as compared to ones I played with my friends and family.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: We were a game family.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: Were you a game family?
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: We were kids.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: It wasn't, like, a weekly thing.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, no, no.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: But, like, yeah, definitely loved games.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: And, yeah, we had our set thing of games.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: And we'll get into them, obviously.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: I did the, you know, my favorite board games.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: And then I did the ones I hate.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: So...
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: Man, I'll be able to speak on that.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: I don't have a list, but there's lots that I hate.
- 11:25SPEAKER_02: That's
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: all right.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: So...
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: I also put the dates down that they were invented, which that's what we were discussing earlier.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: A lot of these were very interesting to me.
- 11:44SPEAKER_02: I had no idea that there was even board games in the 1800s.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Wasn't Nintendo started in the 1800s?
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: What are you talking about?
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: I believe they were a playing card company.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: What?
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: If I'm not mistaken.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Get out of
- 11:58SPEAKER_02: here.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: If somebody wants to fact check that, that'd be great.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: Fact checkers in the booth, if you could hit that up.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: So, yeah.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: But wait.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: Can I ask this first?
- 12:15SPEAKER_02: Were you a rule follower of games?
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: I
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: was.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: I was a rule follower.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: I was also, I would say, a sore loser.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Were you?
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: That's where some of my games I despise came into play.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: And here's the other thing about my list.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: I only did board games.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: Me too.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: No card games.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah,
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: yeah.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: So you guys were a board game family?
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: We were a board game family.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: And...
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: I would say we played by the rules, but we would keep tempers in check.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: So my friend who you know very well, Jen F., her family is a board game family and they play by the rules.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: And it is like I...
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: When I have to play in that family.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: I mean, I only met him once, maybe twice.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: I could see her brother being very intense.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: Was he like an umpire
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: or something?
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: He still is.
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: I can't hear the word Fez.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: F-E-Z.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: Fez.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: Without thinking of him, because I was at Jen's house.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: I actually think it was her parents' house when we were playing Scrabble.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: I was going to say, are they the dictionary with the Scrabble?
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: And her brother happened to be someplace else playing, and he called up, and all he hears, Jen, is Fez a word?
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: And I was like, yeah, Fez is a word, and he was so angry.
- 13:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, man.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: It's probably like a triple word score
- 13:59SPEAKER_02: too.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: I think that's exactly what it was.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: You got to watch out for those.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: So yeah, you're...
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: Okay, so family-wise, did you play them with your friends?
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Were you big on playing board games or games with your friends?
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: I think I was.
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: Stacey and I would play games a lot.
- 14:16SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: Matt, not so much.
- 14:20SPEAKER_02: Matt was on his Atari.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: I think mine, it depended on who...
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: I was with, like, who was hanging out.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: I had a good friend named Kevin growing up, Kevin J.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: He had, like, all the best board games.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: All the games.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like, one came out.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: His family was big into board games.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: He's really smart, like, came from a smart family.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he had, like, all the best board games.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: So
- 14:44SPEAKER_02: I was thinking that when I went through the board games.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: Like, we had a lot of board games, but the new ones that came out we would never get.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: And I would be a little bit jealous because I would want them.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Well, I thought they were new until I started looking them up and was like, what the fuck?
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I hear you.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: So, all right.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: To this day, I love board games.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: I love game nights.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Same.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: You know, my wife and I buy games when we see them.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: We have our little game shelf over there.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: I see a few right over here.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: We have a box like in the basement on the shelf.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: We always talk about doing game nights and you just never do.
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: Because it just never happens.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: It just never happens.
- 15:25SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: Because it's life.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: Speaking of
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: life.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: Look at that segue.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: The
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: game of life.
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: That was not even planned.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: Do you know it was created in 1860?
- 15:41SPEAKER_02: I
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: didn't before we started talking about...
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: until that one time you did find out yes but that's crazy okay so was life on your list of games well life was on
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: my list because I did I did enjoy and the reason why was because I loved thinking of the opportunity to have cool jobs like doctor and lawyer
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: okay I remember the life commercials it seemed like a
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: fun game the game of life that one
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: sure No?
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: Was that how the commercial went?
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: I don't remember.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to think of the 90s commercial.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: That's the tune.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: Ask Stacey.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: How'd it go?
- 16:27SPEAKER_02: In the game of life.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: I think it was too much for me.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: It was a lot of moving parts.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: No pun intended.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: A lot of moving parts.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: Do we decide we could play commercials on here?
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: I think so.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: All right, because I am going to play one.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: So my list is in any kind of order?
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: Same.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: How many games do you have?
- 16:59SPEAKER_02: Well, I have 11.
- 17:02SPEAKER_02: Oh, damn.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: But one of them...
- 17:07SPEAKER_02: was just because I liked the name and I never played it, but I had a little story about it.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: And I don't necessarily love these.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: A couple, I just have stories.
- 17:19SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: I have, I actually have 12 now that I look on my list, but six are love.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: Six are hated.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: I
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: can't wait to see if some of your hated or my hated.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: I can't wait to see if some of my hated or your loved.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: I can't wait to see if some of your loved are my hated.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: I didn't even think of that.
- 17:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: All
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: right.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: Well, the game of life was not on my list at all.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: Oh, at all?
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: No.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: I didn't even...
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, no.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: I
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: played that a
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: lot.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: No, I didn't even think about it.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: I think my aunt who lived in Vermont, she had it.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: So it was like we played it maybe once.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: No,
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: I really loved making the choices.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: I couldn't even tell you how it worked.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: Well, then let's stop talking about it.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: What's next?
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: Here's one you might have played when you were babysitting.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: But it's one I looked up and was like, oh, crap.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: It gave me that very nostalgic 90s
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: feeling.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: What is it?
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: I think it was 90s Dizzy Dinosaur.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: Did you ever play that?
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: I don't
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: even know Dizzy Dinosaur.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: It was like you'd wind up the dinosaur and it would like go in a random pattern, like hit you in little pieces and stuff like that.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: Oh my
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: gosh, that's so cool.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: It was an awesome game.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: Was it supposed to be like Godzilla?
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: A friendly Godzilla, I guess.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: You realize I'm going to play all these.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: But I didn't even...
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: Oh, Dizzy.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: It was Dizzy Dizzy Dinosaur.
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: This is one of those games, like, I don't think I ever actually played it the right way.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: I was...
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: You just,
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: like, seen the little dinosaur go around and
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: around.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: Like, we'd play it, like, to a degree.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: It was never the actual, like, gameplay, I don't think.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: But, yeah, I remember having it.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: I remember enjoying it.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: I...
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: Never played that in
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: my life.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: Dizzy Dizzy Dinosaur.
- 19:02SPEAKER_02: Dizzy Dizzy Dinosaur.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: Dizzy Dizzy Dinosaur.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: What do you got next?
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: In no particular order.
- 19:10SPEAKER_02: This is a game I loved to play.
- 19:14SPEAKER_02: I just played it the other day at a brewery.
- 19:18SPEAKER_02: I can't say that word either.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 19:21SPEAKER_02: With Jen F., who I was just talking about, and Tegan.
- 19:25SPEAKER_02: Guess who?
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's on my list.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: So did you know, 1972.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: I
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: have 79 for Guess Who, and it was bought.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: by milton bradley and brought to the u.s in 82 oh
- 19:38SPEAKER_02: well you're smarter than i am um but we were playing um
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: that's wikipedia i don't know oh so
- 19:48SPEAKER_02: mine was siri oh we were playing bro the kinds of type the fucking are you gonna let me talk you're asking siri kitty you know
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: what's not research
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: Because I was supposed to be here at 7, and he was like 6.42.
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: And literally, he goes, what are you doing?
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: Dude, it's never that important.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: It's
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: all
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: right.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: But...
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: Anyway.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: Guess who did you play?
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Was it the original where there were five women and the rest were guys?
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: So if you picked a woman...
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Yes! What
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: is that?
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: They changed it now where it's...
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: I think it's more like...
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: Because...
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: I saw an Instagram video.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: I think it was Instagram.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: I saw a social media video a while back.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: Was it they
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: used the funny question?
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: So that's what we were doing.
- 20:39SPEAKER_02: Jen was like, do you think this person prefers coffee over
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: tea?
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: That's the way to do it.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: It was so
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: much fun.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: I also know of somebody, a friend of a friend, who got a tattoo of a guess who piece.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: No.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: They had themselves...
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: That's
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: hilarious.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: A little jealous I never thought of that.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: It's pretty great.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: Well, can I
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: tell you?
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: So, you know, we just had a retirement party on Friday.
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: And Jen and I were saying that we wish we had thought about it sooner because we would have loved to have taken...
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: yearbook pictures of like all past people that worked at our school and created our own guess who board.
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: And then like who ate all of the, uh, you know, chocolates out of the chocolate box.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: The best part is when it was like, if the person likes to you over coffee or whatever.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: And Tegan and I, we were playing on the same like team, you know, cause there's two player game.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: And she was like, ma, he totally drinks coffee.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: I'm like, no, he does not.
- 21:47SPEAKER_02: He drinks tea.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: Great game.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, you would pick the, the females like once and be like, it's crazy.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: Why am I doing it?
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: Cause you lose every time.
- 21:58SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Um, I think everybody has the childhood story of they guessed it on the first try.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: Just boom, got it.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: Yes,
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: yes.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: Actually, that leads me into the next game.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: Okay, jump in it.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: I'm going to.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: Jump on it.
- 22:14SPEAKER_02: Clue.
- 22:17SPEAKER_02: So Clue is...
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: It was a difficult game, right?
- 22:22SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: And I loved playing it, and it kind of made sense to me, but it was like I got so like...
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: I just needed to guess.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: And I remember whoever I was playing with would get so mad, like, why are you saying it's Colonel Mustard in the library?
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: Like, we didn't even talk about the library yet.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: But I just wanted it...
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: You didn't even start.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: I wanted it done.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: So I would just guess.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: Clue, not even on my list.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: Didn't love it, didn't hate it.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: I just...
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: Anything...
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: You had to concentrate.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't know why you yell at me all the time for being hard on myself.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: I was never a smart person.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: Oh, well, yes,
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: you were.
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: It just wasn't my brain type.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: Yes,
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: it didn't work that way.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: It wasn't my thought process.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: So clue, risk.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: My best friends loved risk.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: Risk, it makes me want to punch someone.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: To me, that's like just hand a social studies book in front of me.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: And again, it's not on my list.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: I don't love it.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: I don't hate it.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: It's just nothing to me.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: I've never...
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: I played it one night with my friend, John and David, and they made me play.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: They kicked my ass.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: I just didn't have any interest in it.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: Clue, I really, really liked how you would have the person, the room, and the weapon all in one...
- 23:59SPEAKER_02: that you put it in, like, the little secret file pouch.
- 24:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: And I always liked that.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: Like, oh, that's cool.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: It's, like, all secret in the pouch.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: So that's what made you excited.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: The pouch.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: Gotcha.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: Well, I get it.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: The Clue movie was great.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: I was just going to say that.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: I
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: was just going to say that.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I never...
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: Again, it just...
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: Wasn't even on my radar.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: I had no interest in it.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: I'm more of a...
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: I'll jump into my next one, actually.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: Please do.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: I'm more of a...
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: When it comes to thought process and stuff, Trivial Pursuit is on my list.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Loved Trivial Pursuit.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: You know a lot of facts.
- 24:44SPEAKER_00: You are probably a fan.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: We should get 90s.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: Is that a thing?
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: I'm sure they must have a pack for 90s.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: Because I remember my parents doing like a 60s one.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: And I hated because I didn't know the answers and they knew them all.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: My parents had the original.
- 25:01SPEAKER_02: Or what was it?
- 25:01SPEAKER_02: Like Baby Boomer or something.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: The Boomer Edition.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: Boomer Edition.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: And then they had the Genius Edition, Genius whatever.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: And then we had the original, which was, I didn't realize it was 1981.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: So that came out pretty late.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: Oh, so
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: I
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: was only like.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: Five.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: 32.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: In
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: dog
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: ears.
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 81.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: When I was a little older than 81, because I wasn't born yet, they came out with the Disney edition or whatever.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: We had that one.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: I love trivia.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: I love, like, bar trivia.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: I love random knowledge, random facts.
- 25:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I love Trivial Pursuit.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: What was crazy, I feel like, again, everybody had somebody they knew, whether it was a family member...
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Like, for me, it was our neighbor.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: She was one of those people who, like, had this insane knowledge of, like, just random, like, deep fucking, like, every category except for sports.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: I don't think she knew sports.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: But, like, TV shows.
- 26:05SPEAKER_00: All of it.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: You know, art, history, all, like, the random stuff.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: And you're, like, everyone's looking at each other.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: And she's, like, spouting out these answers.
- 26:12UNKNOWN: Yeah.
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: I feel like everybody knows one of those people who just knows very much
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: stuff.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: My mom, Joe Hyphen.
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: She was very good at Trivial Pursuit.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: Does she want to come over for
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: a game
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: night?
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: She would.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: But you know what?
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: Joe Hyphen would know art.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: Didn't you pick a category?
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: So yeah, you would roll the dice.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I guess we're not really explaining the games
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: anymore.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: It's okay.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: You would land on a block, a spot, and then it would...
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: You could go in either direction.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: So you'd be like, oh, do I want purple, which is sports, or do I want pink, which is history?
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: Gotcha.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: I don't remember the colors.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: And then so you'd go with whatever, and then you would answer one of that from that category on whatever card.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: I was going to say, because history
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: would be like brown.
- 26:53SPEAKER_02: I
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: think history was brown.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: Or science was brown.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: And I would
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: think pink would be like arts and leisure.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: I don't even.
- 27:01SPEAKER_02: But you know what I mean?
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: There's a color for everything.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: Green was probably science or something.
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: It's like chicken every year.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: Go.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: Go.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: My next game.
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: We can keep it together.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: So, yeah.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: Trivial Pursuit.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you probably have this one.
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: Operation.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Operation is on my do not like list.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: Operation.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: You're the doctor, got the patient on the run.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: Operation.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: No?
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: It scared me.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: It scared me as a child.
- 27:46SPEAKER_02: It didn't scare me.
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: 1965.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: It made me want to
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: put my fist...
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: through a wall
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: I could see that
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: because I would like I'd want to get the little freaking wishbone out
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: yeah
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: and you'd hit it
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: so our commercial was operation operation oh really yeah it was different
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: not
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: operation no yeah that's why I said I was like water on the knee operation something oh really yeah Interesting.
- 28:22SPEAKER_02: Remember the rubber band?
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: I don't.
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: I played that game in New Jersey at my grandparents' house when I spent a week with them.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: I hated it.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: It's ironic that I electrocuted myself today.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that is.
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: That is.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: That is why I hate it.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: I think it just scared me.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: I didn't like the idea of it.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: See, like you would do and get scared and I would do and get pissed.
- 28:45SPEAKER_02: Understandable.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: And I'd want to like flip
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: it.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: Flip it good.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: Operation.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, good one.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: 1965.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: They have all kinds of Operation, though.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Different
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: people.
- 29:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think I saw a Shrek one.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: We should have gotten one of these games to play.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: Let's get Operation.
- 29:09SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: I'll pick it up.
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: I was going to say I have it, but I don't anymore.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: What's
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: next?
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: I'll do another one from my like list.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: Chutes and Ladders was a big one of mine when I was little.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: So I didn't put that one down because it was almost like a given.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: I really enjoyed Chutes and Ladders.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: I guess it was Snakes and Ladders originally.
- 29:31SPEAKER_00: Used to be, yeah.
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: 1943 it was created.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: And I feel
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: like every single time we played it, my mother would say, you know this used to be called Snakes and Ladders.
- 29:41UNKNOWN: Yeah.
- 29:41SPEAKER_02: It was a great game.
- 29:42SPEAKER_02: It was a great
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: game.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: Game of chance.
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: I like that you could be launched ahead or
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: launched...
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: You weren't good at it.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: You weren't bad at it.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: You just played it.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: Game of luck.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, good game.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: And do you equate that with...
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: Candyland?
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: No.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: Then why'd you just fucking say
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: it?
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: Because I knew...
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: So...
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: You can go fuck yourself.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: You totally just said
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: it.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: Do you want to know why?
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: Because I just started playing Candyland with my kid, and I was like, I thought it was going to be the same...
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: Pretty much the same game, and I was really excited.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: I was like, this is bullshit.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah,
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: but you put them together.
- 30:18SPEAKER_02: I'm not saying they're the same game.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah,
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: I guess.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, I guess.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: I don't like Candyland.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: I thought I would like it more.
- 30:28SPEAKER_00: It's for three-year-olds.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: I don't know what I was expecting.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: When you get the
- 30:33SPEAKER_02: double jelly bean, it's a good
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: day.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: Well, there's only two spots to jump ahead of.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: As opposed to, and none of them drop you back.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: Oh, wait, do they?
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, they can drop you back.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I guess I don't mind.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: No, forget it.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: You already told us.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, fuck that game.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: And I got to pretend to lose.
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: Oh, I know it.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: I know it.
- 30:58SPEAKER_00: And I'm not that dad where I'm like, no, he can't lose.
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: Every time we play, I end up so, like, for some reason, I end up just launching ahead.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: Light years ahead.
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: You get those candy cards, and you end up, and I'm like, crap, I can't do that because I'm going to win.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 31:12SPEAKER_02: And then he's, like, just not going to want to play.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: Well, that's the thing.
- 31:15SPEAKER_00: I
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: know.
- 31:15SPEAKER_00: And then he wins.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: He's not a dick about it yet, so that's good.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: He'll get there.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: So I will say next.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: I'm going to say probably I feel about this game kind of like how you did with Operation because it would hunger hip up.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: It was so loud.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: Do you know they have like a huge one now that you sit on?
- 31:41SPEAKER_00: Like at the arcade?
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: At the arcade, yeah.
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, really?
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: Dave and Buster's has it.
- 31:44SPEAKER_02: I love at school, the kids play a game in phys ed where it's like they...
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: Oh,
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: with the basket and they move each other or whatever?
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: Yes,
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: and one rolls them by the feet on the slider thing.
- 31:55SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: I always loved that.
- 31:58SPEAKER_02: That's awesome.
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: But it was just so loud.
- 32:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:03SPEAKER_02: And the...
- 32:04SPEAKER_02: I always felt like I had some strategy, like, wait,
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: go.
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was definitely trying to catch them, not just the one kid just mashing it.
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I think it was just so loud.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: I don't think it worked.
- 32:25SPEAKER_00: So I will relate another game to that, and this is probably my favorite of my favorite games, Crossfire.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: You'll get caught up in
- 32:36SPEAKER_02: the crossfire.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: So it's funny you said that.
- 32:43SPEAKER_02: Because I was watching commercials and one of them said, everyone knows Crossfire from the 90s.
- 32:51SPEAKER_02: And if you didn't play it, you just pretended you did because you wanted to be cool.
- 32:55SPEAKER_02: I never played it.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: I never played
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: it.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: They went hard for that commercial.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: It actually wasn't that fun of a game.
- 33:04SPEAKER_00: No?
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: No,
- 33:05SPEAKER_02: it was cool.
- 33:06SPEAKER_02: It kind of seemed like
- 33:07SPEAKER_00: Beyblade.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: That's actually, I don't know what a Beyblade is, but that's kind of what I thought.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah?
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: I kind of figured Beyblade is something like Crossfire from, you know what I mean?
- 33:18SPEAKER_00: Where
- 33:18SPEAKER_02: they're like little pieces and they're like spun and they knock.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there was one that looked like a little saw blade almost.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: On like a ball bearing, and then there was a triangle on a ball bearing.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: Or like on a wheel, yeah, on a ball bearing where it's going any direction.
- 33:30UNKNOWN: Yeah.
- 33:30SPEAKER_00: And then you would take these little smaller ball bearings, put them in this little gun, and just like shoot it.
- 33:37SPEAKER_00: By shoot it, I mean like...
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just like sprung them out.
- 33:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: And you would try to get the two shapes, the saw blade and the triangle, into the other person's side.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: Oh, by hitting the little ball bearings against
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: it.
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so you would like, you'd grab them as you played and like drop them into the top of the gun.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: It got hit in the
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: crossfire.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: You'll get caught up in the...
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: Crossfire.
- 34:02SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: But yeah, the commercial made everybody want it.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: My friend Kevin, again, that was like...
- 34:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: He had that game.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: So Kevin was a game fan.
- 34:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they had the game...
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: But yeah, they had like every game and a lot of video games too.
- 34:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: Well, I
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: never
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: played it.
- 34:18SPEAKER_00: But the...
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: Oh, it was...
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was good.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: It's a good one.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: Good game.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: Good game.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: I mean, also, I was 10 when it came out.
- 34:27SPEAKER_00: When it was big, like...
- 34:29SPEAKER_02: So that's
- 34:30SPEAKER_00: the perfect age.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was the one who was geared towards.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: Something I did learn for our listeners, it was invented in 1971, Crossfire, which blew my mind of all these.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: I was like, holy crap.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: 94 is when Milton Bradley edition came out, and that's when they dropped that banger on us and brought the commercial, and everybody
- 34:51SPEAKER_02: was like, we need
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: it.
- 34:53UNKNOWN: Okay.
- 34:53SPEAKER_02: Okay,
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: okay.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: It looked a lot more fast-paced than it was.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: I'll put it that
- 34:57SPEAKER_02: way.
- 34:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, gotcha.
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: But it was a fun game.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: I would play it today.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: It's good enough.
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: Well, I mean, it sounds kind of cool.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: I'd like to give it a shot.
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: Fun intended.
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: All right, what's your next one?
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: All right, so this was not a board game.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: I mean, it was a board.
- 35:17SPEAKER_02: It had a board.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: It would scare the shit out of me.
- 35:22SPEAKER_02: And my mom wouldn't let me own it.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: Can I say what I think it is?
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:27SPEAKER_00: Perfection?
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: No.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: Oh, no?
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: But that, to me, is an anxiety attack in a
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: bucket.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: Well, that's on my hate list.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, my God.
- 35:34SPEAKER_00: Because fuck that game.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: Fuck that game.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: They should have just called it fucking- Why
- 35:39SPEAKER_02: not just-
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: Be a bomb squad technician.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: That's
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: awful.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: Hated that game.
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: I would be like, no! Yes.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: It had that stupid time where it was like.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 35:51SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 35:51SPEAKER_02: And then you would like try so, and like I would freeze.
- 35:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: No, it wasn't that.
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, fuck that game.
- 35:59SPEAKER_02: No, my mom didn't let me have this game because I was a good Catholic girl and she didn't want me summoning demons.
- 36:08SPEAKER_02: It was a Ouija board?
- 36:08SPEAKER_02: It was a Ouija board.
- 36:10SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 36:11SPEAKER_02: But it was at every sleepover.
- 36:15SPEAKER_02: In the 90s.
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: And that is how I became really good friends with Brett.
- 36:24SPEAKER_02: Of course.
- 36:24SPEAKER_02: What did we call her?
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: Two bag Brett?
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: Two skins Brett.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: Two skins.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: Double skins Brett.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: Double
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: skins.
- 36:30SPEAKER_02: Double skins Brett.
- 36:32SPEAKER_02: So we were at a sleepover.
- 36:33SPEAKER_02: Somebody
- 36:35SPEAKER_00: broke up at the Ouija board.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: You ended up skinning a fucking cat with her.
- 36:39SPEAKER_02: Opposite.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: We were so fucking scared that we hid behind the couch.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: And in our goodie bags...
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: Goodie bags at a sleepover?
- 36:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:49SPEAKER_00: What the...
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: In the fucking suburbia?
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: In the colonial house.
- 36:54SPEAKER_02: And we had a little tiny keyboard.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: And we sat and we played with those because we were petrified.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: And we were like...
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: I don't want to summon the demons.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: No.
- 37:04SPEAKER_00: No, I wasn't allowed to play Ouija either.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:08SPEAKER_00: For good reason, I guess.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: Have you ever seen the video of the dad who's downstairs, his daughter's having a sleepover and he's hitting the breaker?
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: No.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: He's turning the power on.
- 37:15SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, that's so funny.
- 37:17SPEAKER_00: Every time he flips the breaker, you can hear them all scream.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: Meanwhile, that's something Brett's dad would have done.
- 37:22SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh, that's so funny.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: But it was like, it freaked me out.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:29SPEAKER_02: Because like, It always moves so smoothly.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: And
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: everybody had the story of, like, they weren't touching it.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: I swear
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: I wasn't touching it.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: Somebody was touching
- 37:38SPEAKER_02: it.
- 37:38SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 37:39SPEAKER_02: Light as a feather, stiff as a board.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: Did boys do that?
- 37:51UNKNOWN: No.
- 37:51UNKNOWN: Oh, my God.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: No.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: And Ouija's old, right?
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: That came out back...
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: Way back.
- 37:56SPEAKER_02: Probably like Salem, which...
- 37:57SPEAKER_02: I was just going to say, like, created in Salem, Massachusetts.
- 38:00SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 38:01SPEAKER_02: All
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: right.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, Ouija's not for me.
- 38:05SPEAKER_02: So that was just a story.
- 38:07SPEAKER_02: I didn't...
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: I don't...
- 38:08SPEAKER_02: Maybe I did have it.
- 38:09SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 38:10SPEAKER_02: But my mom didn't want me to have it.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you that much.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: Understandable.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you that much.
- 38:14SPEAKER_00: I think my cousin had it, and it was like, stay away from it.
- 38:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, don't do that.
- 38:18SPEAKER_00: Did you have...
- 38:21SPEAKER_00: There were two games that were kind of like the same.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: They came in the same box, the same company.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: So I have written down Ants in the Pants.
- 38:30SPEAKER_00: Do you remember that game?
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: And Cooties?
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, and Cooties.
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:33SPEAKER_00: And Don't Break the Ice.
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: And Don't Spill the Beans.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they were all the same company, like same box.
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: Oh my God, that's so funny.
- 38:42SPEAKER_00: My kid has cooties, the game.
- 38:43SPEAKER_00: I love cooties.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: The game.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: Well, we don't play cootie.
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: He just puts them, he loves putting them together.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: He just put them together, yeah.
- 38:50SPEAKER_00: Don't break the ice.
- 38:51SPEAKER_00: Don't break the ice.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: The
- 38:52SPEAKER_02: girls and I played that a lot.
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: He likes to just beat the shit out of them.
- 39:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:00SPEAKER_00: Just break them all.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah,
- 39:01SPEAKER_03: yeah,
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: yeah.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: But yeah, great game.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: It's like a penguin now.
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: Remember it was like a guy sitting?
- 39:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:07SPEAKER_00: Now it's like a penguin.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: I guess they didn't
- 39:09SPEAKER_02: want to unalive him.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: But
- 39:11SPEAKER_02: they'll unalive
- 39:12SPEAKER_00: the penguin?
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: Well, penguins swim in
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: that water.
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: Oh, you're right.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: Nobody can see you roll your eyes at me.
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, my God.
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: Let's see how we can make Leslie a victim this fucking week.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but ants in my pants.
- 39:29SPEAKER_00: It's in the pants.
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: I think so.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was like a pair of plastic pants and you'd have these plastic...
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: Ants.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: Ants.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: I guess we're more like grasshoppers.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I guess.
- 39:40SPEAKER_00: You'd like...
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: You'd hit the back of them, they'd jump, and you would just try to get them in the pants.
- 39:44SPEAKER_00: And
- 39:44SPEAKER_02: didn't the guy have big pants and suspenders?
- 39:47SPEAKER_00: So the one I had, there was no character.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: It was just the pants with the suspenders.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: So the suspenders would always get in your way, which was annoying.
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: I did read that there were later versions or other versions where it had a character.
- 40:01SPEAKER_00: Technically, that game isn't a board game because there's no board.
- 40:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I would...
- 40:07SPEAKER_02: Categorize it in there.
- 40:09SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: Released in 1969 originally.
- 40:11SPEAKER_00: 1986, it was purchased by Hasbro.
- 40:17SPEAKER_00: I probably got it in like 1991.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: Actually, I specifically remember getting it from my grim parents for Christmas.
- 40:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, really?
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: What else you got?
- 40:26SPEAKER_02: All right, so...
- 40:27SPEAKER_02: Oh, I hope they're on my hate list.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: So, okay, so
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: this...
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: That's all I got left, by the way.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: Okay, so I have some that have a couple stories.
- 40:35SPEAKER_02: I may mention them, I may not.
- 40:37SPEAKER_02: But I will tell you my game that I loved.
- 40:42SPEAKER_02: And I still love this game.
- 40:44SPEAKER_02: And that's why I wouldn't read you my text earlier from Kate, because it was her favorite game, too.
- 40:49SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 40:51SPEAKER_02: And she said she's going to bring it to Rehoboth, and I really hope she does.
- 40:54SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
- 40:57SPEAKER_00: That is on my hate list.
- 40:59SPEAKER_02: I pretty much thought it was going to be.
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 41:04SPEAKER_02: Okay, but why?
- 41:05SPEAKER_00: Because you could...
- 41:08SPEAKER_00: People could knock you.
- 41:09SPEAKER_00: It wasn't just you're playing versus.
- 41:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:12SPEAKER_00: You could take somebody out.
- 41:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah,
- 41:14SPEAKER_00: you could.
- 41:14SPEAKER_00: And you could drop them back.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: And that's what bothered me.
- 41:17SPEAKER_00: It wasn't just like who's doing the best and who's getting the furthest.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: It was like not only that, but like I can land on you and send you back.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: You always had to be on the lookout.
- 41:26SPEAKER_02: So my big thing I liked about it was there was– you had two things, right?
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: So you had, you had to get the pieces out of the circle.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: You had like four pieces.
- 41:37SPEAKER_02: You had to get out of the circle, but then each of those pieces had to get to the end.
- 41:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 41:43SPEAKER_02: And so some people would like play their one piece the whole time.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: Or some people would like bring them all
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: out.
- 41:50SPEAKER_02: I would do the all out thing because I was like, no, because same
- 41:55SPEAKER_00: with trouble.
- 41:57SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 41:57SPEAKER_00: You're right.
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: Same thing.
- 41:58SPEAKER_02: How's Sorry different from Trouble?
- 42:01SPEAKER_00: I don't think it really is.
- 42:02SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty sure it's the same game.
- 42:03SPEAKER_00: It's just Trouble has
- 42:04SPEAKER_02: the popper dice.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:06SPEAKER_02: Which is genius because you won't lose it.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's fun getting into trouble.
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: Pop-o-matic trouble.
- 42:13SPEAKER_00: What was Sorry?
- 42:14SPEAKER_00: Cards?
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: Or dice?
- 42:18SPEAKER_02: Dice.
- 42:19SPEAKER_02: And just the pieces with the little nub on the end.
- 42:24SPEAKER_02: Wide
- 42:25SPEAKER_00: bottom.
- 42:26UNKNOWN: Yeah.
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: Baby got back.
- 42:27SPEAKER_00: I was just thinking of a joke.
- 42:31SPEAKER_02: Oh, my God.
- 42:31SPEAKER_02: Oh, man.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: No, sorry.
- 42:33SPEAKER_00: Sorry it was a game I played a lot.
- 42:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:36SPEAKER_00: And actually, you could see it was on my like list originally.
- 42:39SPEAKER_00: I do
- 42:39SPEAKER_02: have it.
- 42:40SPEAKER_00: But I moved it because I was really thinking about it.
- 42:43SPEAKER_00: And I was like, no, I used to get so...
- 42:45SPEAKER_00: Again, I was a sore loser.
- 42:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: As a kid.
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: You probably right in between me and you...
- 42:57SPEAKER_02: More sore losers came about.
- 43:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:01SPEAKER_02: For me, it was like if you lost, you fucking lost.
- 43:03SPEAKER_00: I was a sensitive kid.
- 43:05SPEAKER_02: I was a sensitive kid.
- 43:09SPEAKER_02: It was almost like I felt guilty winning games.
- 43:12SPEAKER_02: That hurts my feelings.
- 43:14SPEAKER_02: That's exactly right.
- 43:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:17SPEAKER_02: I was a really sensitive kid.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: Gotcha.
- 43:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's...
- 43:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know why I became a sore loser.
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: It was just the games, though.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: Sports, I had no problem losing.
- 43:30SPEAKER_02: That's really funny.
- 43:30SPEAKER_00: Just games.
- 43:31SPEAKER_00: I'd get so
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: mad.
- 43:32SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't be a sore loser.
- 43:34SPEAKER_02: It was almost like I was relieved because then I didn't have to feel guilty that I won the game.
- 43:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 43:42SPEAKER_02: That's typical.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: Maybe mention that next week in your session.
- 43:49SPEAKER_00: I will.
- 43:50SPEAKER_00: I will.
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: I just want to win.
- 43:53SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 43:54SPEAKER_00: Just once.
- 43:54SPEAKER_00: I just want to win friends.
- 43:56SPEAKER_00: I
- 43:58SPEAKER_02: just want to win the game of life.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: It was a game.
- 44:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:06SPEAKER_00: Another one I hated.
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm just going to.
- 44:10SPEAKER_00: This is a throwaway, but I mentioned it in another episode.
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: But Mousetrap.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 44:15SPEAKER_02: Never worry.
- 44:15SPEAKER_02: Well, I didn't even put it down because we had talked about
- 44:18SPEAKER_00: it.
- 44:18SPEAKER_00: I jotted it down.
- 44:20SPEAKER_00: Came out in 1963.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:22SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: That is crazy.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: A lot of these games are like so old that I just never, I don't know.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: It's crazy how old they are.
- 44:31SPEAKER_00: Anyway, so I'll say Battleship.
- 44:34SPEAKER_00: I fucking hate Battleship.
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 44:36SPEAKER_02: I liked Battleship.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah?
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: I did.
- 44:39SPEAKER_02: I did.
- 44:40SPEAKER_02: What I did not like was Electronic
- 44:46SPEAKER_00: Battleship.
- 44:46SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: That noise would
- 44:49SPEAKER_02: annoy me.
- 44:51SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh, Stacey, do you remember this?
- 44:55SPEAKER_02: Some of our pegs had teeth marks.
- 44:58SPEAKER_00: Because of the nerves?
- 45:00SPEAKER_00: I think so.
- 45:02SPEAKER_00: I'm a bad person.
- 45:08SPEAKER_00: I'm a bad guesser.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: I feel like you'd kind of guess which direction the ship was going.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: Yes, but then did you use your
- 45:17SPEAKER_02: strategies?
- 45:19SPEAKER_02: See, so that's why Gen, Gen is a phenomenal game.
- 45:23SPEAKER_02: She teaches her students like, okay, here's some different strategies instead of just like, did you just willy-nilly, no pun intended, just give a coordinate?
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: No,
- 45:37SPEAKER_02: man.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: No, and that's the thing.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: I did use strategy.
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: I'd go one direction and the other direction and whatnot, but I felt like the other person always...
- 45:47SPEAKER_00: outwitted me or outguessed me.
- 45:49SPEAKER_00: Did you
- 45:50SPEAKER_02: ever do things like sometimes I would put boats right next to each other?
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:55SPEAKER_00: Because then you would think,
- 45:56SPEAKER_02: yeah, yeah.
- 45:57SPEAKER_00: All right, what else
- 45:58SPEAKER_02: you got?
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: So this one, I liked the idea of it, but I wasn't very good at it because I was young.
- 46:08SPEAKER_02: Mastermind.
- 46:09SPEAKER_00: What was Mastermind?
- 46:12SPEAKER_02: Mastermind, it was like, it's almost like Wordle.
- 46:17SPEAKER_02: Do you play Wordle?
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: I play Wordle every day.
- 46:21SPEAKER_02: So you would put your pegs into some kind of sequence, like let's say red, blue, blue, green, yellow.
- 46:31SPEAKER_02: And so then the person would try to guess what your pattern was, and then you would put pegs saying if it was in the right spot or if...
- 46:43SPEAKER_02: I do have that color, but it's in the wrong spot.
- 46:45SPEAKER_00: Oh, that sounds like something I would either love or hate.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: That's exactly right.
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: Like, probably, that's definitely one of the games you should probably pay attention to the good for this age.
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 46:58SPEAKER_00: Gotcha.
- 46:58SPEAKER_00: You
- 46:58SPEAKER_02: know what I mean?
- 46:59SPEAKER_02: Because, like, I wanted to be good at it, but I wasn't really that good at it.
- 47:04SPEAKER_02: But I loved the idea of the game.
- 47:07SPEAKER_00: I was recently thinking about, like, high school math and, like, doing, do you remember math proofs?
- 47:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:14SPEAKER_00: And I hated them.
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: I had such a hard time because I didn't pay attention.
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: I couldn't pay attention.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: Welcome to my
- 47:21SPEAKER_02: world.
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: Now I think about what they actually were.
- 47:24SPEAKER_00: I think it's something I would love as an adult.
- 47:28SPEAKER_00: Can I
- 47:28SPEAKER_02: tell you how much I
- 47:29SPEAKER_00: learned being a teacher?
- 47:31SPEAKER_00: I believe it.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: So many things where I was like, oh.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: I'm so mad at my 15-year-old self because I'm like, dude.
- 47:39SPEAKER_00: That was actually fun.
- 47:40SPEAKER_00: You could have enjoyed that, like putting the pieces together.
- 47:43SPEAKER_00: Yes, exactly.
- 47:43SPEAKER_00: But instead, you just didn't pay attention because you felt awkward in your own body.
- 47:49SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 47:51SPEAKER_00: Stop crying, Will.
- 47:52SPEAKER_00: Never.
- 47:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man, if I could go back and do it again, I would have been a rock star.
- 47:58SPEAKER_00: Oh, so funny.
- 47:59SPEAKER_00: By rock star, I mean good student.
- 48:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:04SPEAKER_00: So my last hate game, though, is Monopoly.
- 48:07SPEAKER_00: I hate Monopoly.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: Oh, gosh.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: I didn't even put
- 48:09SPEAKER_02: it on.
- 48:09SPEAKER_02: Did you ever in your life?
- 48:12SPEAKER_00: Finishing
- 48:12SPEAKER_02: a Monopoly?
- 48:13SPEAKER_02: Nope.
- 48:13SPEAKER_02: Me neither.
- 48:14SPEAKER_02: Hate it.
- 48:15SPEAKER_00: Hate everything about it.
- 48:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:16SPEAKER_02: And there are some rules, though.
- 48:18SPEAKER_02: I forget when, but I was looking at the rules and...
- 48:29SPEAKER_02: It seems like if you play the rules to a T, it would end a lot faster.
- 48:34SPEAKER_00: There's that one rule that if you land on one of your uncle's spaces, he gets to touch the inside of your thigh.
- 48:40SPEAKER_00: Did you guys?
- 48:42SPEAKER_00: No?
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: No.
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: My uncles were more like, if you land on my space, you have to go get me another beer.
- 48:49SPEAKER_02: I'm going to make a phone call.
- 48:50UNKNOWN: Yeah.
- 48:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, God, I can't stand it.
- 48:57SPEAKER_02: Inside of the thigh.
- 48:58SPEAKER_02: Oh, man.
- 49:01SPEAKER_02: No.
- 49:02SPEAKER_02: No.
- 49:02SPEAKER_02: Do you want me to take you somewhere?
- 49:06SPEAKER_00: Please.
- 49:08SPEAKER_00: Drop me off at a fire
- 49:09SPEAKER_02: station?
- 49:12SPEAKER_02: Do you need
- 49:12SPEAKER_00: a wooden nickel?
- 49:13SPEAKER_00: That was funny to me.
- 49:16SPEAKER_00: What a nickel.
- 49:18SPEAKER_02: Oh, shit.
- 49:19SPEAKER_02: So when I was going through the lists, there was this one game.
- 49:22SPEAKER_02: It was called Crackers in My Bed.
- 49:24SPEAKER_02: Oh,
- 49:25SPEAKER_00: I remember that
- 49:25SPEAKER_02: game.
- 49:26SPEAKER_02: Do you?
- 49:26SPEAKER_02: Do you have a picture of it?
- 49:27SPEAKER_02: No, I don't.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: Look it up, though.
- 49:29SPEAKER_00: No, I think my sister had that one.
- 49:31SPEAKER_00: And Pizza Party, I feel like.
- 49:32SPEAKER_00: Oh, I heard of that one,
- 49:34SPEAKER_02: but I had never heard of Crackers in My Bed, but it made me laugh because when I met.
- 49:39SPEAKER_00: Because you thought of my wife?
- 49:41SPEAKER_02: Eating crackers in her bed?
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: Because she sleeps with a cracker in her bed.
- 49:46SPEAKER_02: Because you're white.
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: No, yeah, that's the gist of it.
- 49:55SPEAKER_02: That's awesome.
- 49:57SPEAKER_02: No, my husband, actually, when we first met in college, whenever he saw a hot girl, he'd be like, I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers.
- 50:10SPEAKER_02: He used to make me laugh.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: Was he like 78 when you did it?
- 50:15SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 50:15SPEAKER_02: It was like we'd be there and you'd see some hot girl.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers.
- 50:20SPEAKER_00: Oh, man.
- 50:21SPEAKER_00: That just unlocked a memory.
- 50:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah?
- 50:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 50:24SPEAKER_00: I think my sister had this one.
- 50:25SPEAKER_02: I've never even heard of it before today.
- 50:29SPEAKER_02: So you know what?
- 50:30SPEAKER_02: So then I finally looked up what came out in the 90s, like what was created in the 90s.
- 50:36SPEAKER_02: And the one...
- 50:38SPEAKER_02: that I talked about a lot, I do remember Dream Phone.
- 50:42SPEAKER_02: And I was not allowed to get it.
- 50:44SPEAKER_02: No?
- 50:44SPEAKER_02: No.
- 50:45SPEAKER_02: And it's not that I wasn't allowed to.
- 50:47SPEAKER_02: It was more like, no, you know it's not going to be good.
- 50:52SPEAKER_02: It's
- 50:52SPEAKER_00: funny you mentioned Dream Phone because I really thought like Maud Mandis would be on your
- 50:57SPEAKER_02: list.
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: I put the two together in
- 51:00SPEAKER_00: my head.
- 51:01SPEAKER_00: So I figured that would be on your list.
- 51:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: No, but I didn't play that.
- 51:08SPEAKER_02: That was funny.
- 51:13SPEAKER_02: I think I would enjoy that game.
- 51:18SPEAKER_02: Who sings that, Jack Black?
- 51:20SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 51:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:23SPEAKER_00: That's so funny.
- 51:24SPEAKER_00: So good.
- 51:25SPEAKER_02: So maybe I should look up.
- 51:27SPEAKER_02: I bet you if you look up 90s commercial and I look up 80s commercial, 80s Operation commercial.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: I just remember, water on the knee, operation! Have you ever played Don't Wake Daddy?
- 51:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:56SPEAKER_00: It's actually a fun game.
- 51:57SPEAKER_00: It
- 51:57SPEAKER_02: is a
- 51:57SPEAKER_00: fun game.
- 51:59SPEAKER_00: See?
- 52:00SPEAKER_00: So...
- 52:00SPEAKER_00: Leslie and I both just showed each other the commercials for Operation from our generation.
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: And I think it very much sums up the generation gap.
- 52:10SPEAKER_00: Like I got a little
- 52:11SPEAKER_02: bit angry that you didn't know Operation.
- 52:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:14SPEAKER_02: You're the doctor, got the patient on the
- 52:17SPEAKER_00: run.
- 52:17SPEAKER_00: But I think it's like mine was such a, I think mine said 94.
- 52:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:21SPEAKER_00: Which apparently was a big year for games from what I'm seeing.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: I don't
- 52:25SPEAKER_02: know.
- 52:26SPEAKER_02: I was a senior in high school.
- 52:27SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 52:29SPEAKER_00: Well, and that's why I said I really feel like you probably babysat some kids who were playing the games that I was playing.
- 52:35SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 52:36SPEAKER_02: The one I was waiting for you to say, Hi Ho Cheerio.
- 52:39SPEAKER_02: Do you remember that one?
- 52:42SPEAKER_02: It has the little cherries in the trees.
- 52:44SPEAKER_00: I was picturing cherries, and I can't figure out why.
- 52:48SPEAKER_02: And I remember playing that while I was babysitting.
- 52:52SPEAKER_02: And I was thinking, I was like, oh, I bet you Will has that on his list.
- 52:55SPEAKER_00: I don't.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 53:01SPEAKER_02: Cheerio
- 53:02SPEAKER_00: or Cheerio?
- 53:03SPEAKER_00: Cheerio.
- 53:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: What?
- 53:08SPEAKER_00: eBay.
- 53:09SPEAKER_00: Vintage 1999.
- 53:10SPEAKER_00: Oh,
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: my God.
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: That hurts me.
- 53:13SPEAKER_02: That's
- 53:14SPEAKER_00: insane.
- 53:15SPEAKER_00: Vintage 1999.
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: Vintage.
- 53:18SPEAKER_00: That game's from the 1900s.
- 53:20SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 53:22SPEAKER_00: Oh, my goodness.
- 53:24SPEAKER_00: But it was also around in 92, there's a version.
- 53:27SPEAKER_00: So it was, yeah, it was around when I was, I feel like this was in one of my classrooms, but we never played it when I was younger.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: Wait, which one?
- 53:36SPEAKER_00: Like, I feel, Hi-Ho Cheerio, I feel like that was, like, one of the games on the shelves in the classroom.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:43SPEAKER_02: I love that we have our own
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: Operation commercial.
- 53:45UNKNOWN: Yeah.
- 53:46SPEAKER_02: That's
- 53:47SPEAKER_00: nice.
- 53:47SPEAKER_00: It is really cool.
- 53:49SPEAKER_00: It really separates us.
- 53:51SPEAKER_03: Apparition.
- 53:53SPEAKER_00: I feel like we have, we should do an episode where it's the same product, different commercials.
- 54:02SPEAKER_01: Ooh, yes.
- 54:05SPEAKER_00: I think that'd be really good.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 54:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we'll have to, I mean, that's going to take a little bit of communication, research.
- 54:15SPEAKER_00: So that's it.
- 54:16SPEAKER_00: That's the list of games.
- 54:17SPEAKER_00: That is
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: episode
- 54:18SPEAKER_00: 10.
- 54:19SPEAKER_00: Episode 10.
- 54:20SPEAKER_02: I'm
- 54:20SPEAKER_00: excited.
- 54:20SPEAKER_00: We did board games.
- 54:22SPEAKER_00: As I say in every episode, it was a little all over the place.
- 54:26SPEAKER_02: No, it's just us.
- 54:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:28SPEAKER_00: I hope you enjoyed it.
- 54:29SPEAKER_00: Those were our lists.
- 54:31SPEAKER_00: If you have games that you think of that weren't on the list, shoot us an email.
- 54:35SPEAKER_02: Let us know.
- 54:36SPEAKER_02: Or if you were like waiting, like, oh, I can't wait till they talk about this game and we didn't even mention it.
- 54:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:41SPEAKER_00: If you think of any games we didn't mention or...
- 54:45SPEAKER_00: Remember them differently than we remembered.
- 54:47SPEAKER_00: Let us know.
- 54:48SPEAKER_00: Either way, I hope you enjoyed the episode.
- 54:51SPEAKER_00: It was a trip down memory lane, as they all are.
- 54:55SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 54:56SPEAKER_00: And the memory lane of the greatest decade to exist.
- 55:00SPEAKER_00: I have...
- 55:01SPEAKER_02: Oops, sorry.
- 55:02SPEAKER_02: I got PTSD because you flipped a board game over.
- 55:06SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 55:07SPEAKER_02: Sent the pieces flying.
- 55:08SPEAKER_02: Many of times.
- 55:09SPEAKER_00: Matt.
- 55:10SPEAKER_00: Monopoly.
- 55:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: Game ain't over till the board is flipped.
- 55:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:21SPEAKER_00: Do you have any shout outs you'd like to give?
- 55:24SPEAKER_00: I have a couple of local things.
- 55:28SPEAKER_00: Please tell.
- 55:28SPEAKER_00: For our local listeners.
- 55:29SPEAKER_00: You
- 55:30SPEAKER_02: can start.
- 55:30SPEAKER_00: I can start, okay.
- 55:32SPEAKER_00: Anybody in the Hudson Valley area or Dutchess County more specifically, but Hudson Valley area?
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: Wappingers Falls, I went to a place called Retro Bites
- 55:43SPEAKER_02: the other day.
- 55:44SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's right.
- 55:44SPEAKER_00: I texted you about it.
- 55:45SPEAKER_02: Yes, and I thought it was like a tchotchke store.
- 55:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a little like restaurant spot.
- 55:53SPEAKER_02: That's
- 55:53SPEAKER_00: cool.
- 55:54SPEAKER_02: Was the food
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: retro themed?
- 55:56SPEAKER_00: The food's like, it's like, Burgers.
- 55:59SPEAKER_00: I was just
- 55:59SPEAKER_02: going to say you eat
- 56:00SPEAKER_00: like a
- 56:00SPEAKER_02: burger.
- 56:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like burgers, chicken sandwiches, like bar food kind of thing.
- 56:04SPEAKER_00: It's not a bar, but it's like that kind of food.
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: They have a halal menu, which is cool.
- 56:09SPEAKER_00: They have like milkshakes, stuff like that.
- 56:12SPEAKER_00: It's a pretty cool place.
- 56:13SPEAKER_00: The food was solid.
- 56:15SPEAKER_00: But what makes it retro?
- 56:17SPEAKER_00: So they have...
- 56:18SPEAKER_00: At each table you sit at, you can play video games.
- 56:22SPEAKER_00: You can either sit there and eat.
- 56:24SPEAKER_00: My wife and I were getting food to take out, but we were still messing with the video games.
- 56:27SPEAKER_00: And I'll post them on our site.
- 56:29SPEAKER_00: We can post them on Instagram or whatever.
- 56:31SPEAKER_00: On IG.
- 56:33SPEAKER_00: I hope they don't mind.
- 56:35SPEAKER_00: But you can play video games while you sit there and eat or while you're waiting for your food.
- 56:38SPEAKER_00: They were very encouraging to just play the games while you're waiting.
- 56:42SPEAKER_00: That's pretty cool.
- 56:43SPEAKER_02: You didn't need quarters?
- 56:45SPEAKER_00: No, it's all free to play.
- 56:46SPEAKER_00: And when I say they have...
- 56:48SPEAKER_00: every video game.
- 56:50SPEAKER_00: Do
- 56:50SPEAKER_02: they have Mrs.
- 56:51SPEAKER_02: Pac-Man?
- 56:52SPEAKER_02: I
- 56:53SPEAKER_00: didn't look for it.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: Oh,
- 56:54SPEAKER_02: asshole.
- 56:55SPEAKER_00: The first thing I did, there was a game at the Duchess Mall that I...
- 56:59SPEAKER_03: Used
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: to play.
- 57:00SPEAKER_00: It was like some spy game.
- 57:02SPEAKER_00: And I played it because it was only a quarter when everything else went up to 50 cents.
- 57:05SPEAKER_00: Got it.
- 57:06SPEAKER_00: They had it.
- 57:07SPEAKER_00: They had that game.
- 57:08SPEAKER_00: They had NBA Jam.
- 57:09SPEAKER_00: Did they have Qbert?
- 57:11SPEAKER_00: Fucking probably, Leslie.
- 57:13SPEAKER_00: Willard, you're telling me they have games.
- 57:15SPEAKER_00: Every game.
- 57:16SPEAKER_00: Every game.
- 57:16SPEAKER_00: I just named two.
- 57:17SPEAKER_00: I would put money that they did.
- 57:18SPEAKER_00: I didn't specifically look for those games.
- 57:21SPEAKER_00: Then you don't know.
- 57:23SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 57:25SPEAKER_02: They have Frogger?
- 57:25SPEAKER_00: They have Frogger.
- 57:27SPEAKER_00: Yep, they had Frogger.
- 57:28SPEAKER_00: It was so good.
- 57:29SPEAKER_00: Frogger was great.
- 57:30SPEAKER_00: I played it for 45 minutes.
- 57:32SPEAKER_02: There was not Frogger.
- 57:33SPEAKER_00: I didn't look for Frogger.
- 57:34SPEAKER_02: I hate you.
- 57:35SPEAKER_02: I hate everything about you.
- 57:38SPEAKER_02: They
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: had...
- 57:39SPEAKER_00: I
- 57:39SPEAKER_02: don't care what they
- 57:41SPEAKER_00: had.
- 57:41SPEAKER_00: Contra.
- 57:41SPEAKER_00: Contra was on there.
- 57:42SPEAKER_00: I
- 57:42SPEAKER_02: don't even
- 57:42SPEAKER_00: know what that is.
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: I don't know what that is.
- 57:45SPEAKER_00: Well, because you're naming fucking Atari games because you're old.
- 57:47SPEAKER_00: Oh,
- 57:50SPEAKER_02: they weren't Atari games?
- 57:52SPEAKER_00: They probably had Atari games.
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: I didn't look that deep, but they really did.
- 57:55SPEAKER_00: It was like...
- 57:56SPEAKER_00: It was, like, yeah, just amazing, all the games they had.
- 58:02SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 58:03SPEAKER_00: And they're free to play while you eat or while you wait.
- 58:06SPEAKER_00: So if you're in the area, Wappager Falls, it's called Retro Bites, very worth checking out.
- 58:10SPEAKER_00: And, again, the food was solid.
- 58:12SPEAKER_00: And– The young lady who helped my wife and I was very nice, which goes a long way with me.
- 58:20SPEAKER_00: So go check them out.
- 58:21SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, definitely.
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: Go support them.
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: Go see what they're about.
- 58:25SPEAKER_00: Cool.
- 58:25SPEAKER_00: I was a big fan.
- 58:27SPEAKER_00: I'll go
- 58:27SPEAKER_02: check out and see if they have Qbert or Frogger or Mrs.
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: Pac-Man.
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: Please do, and report back so that we know that you actually checked out.
- 58:35SPEAKER_02: Okay, I will.
- 58:36SPEAKER_00: And the goal, and I'll promote this, is...
- 58:42SPEAKER_00: We're trying to make it to 90s night.
- 58:44SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 58:46SPEAKER_00: Ben Morrow Winery.
- 58:47SPEAKER_00: Ben Morrow Winery.
- 58:48SPEAKER_00: So Ben Morrow Winery and Vineyard in Marlborough.
- 58:52SPEAKER_00: It is the
- 58:52SPEAKER_02: oldest vineyard in America.
- 58:55SPEAKER_02: Is it really?
- 58:56SPEAKER_02: That's what it says.
- 58:57SPEAKER_02: It must be true.
- 58:58SPEAKER_02: I've been there.
- 59:03SPEAKER_02: The winery also holds New York Farm winery license number one.
- 59:10SPEAKER_02: No way.
- 59:10SPEAKER_02: That's
- 59:11SPEAKER_00: insane.
- 59:12SPEAKER_00: That's pretty cool.
- 59:13SPEAKER_00: That is pretty cool.
- 59:15SPEAKER_00: So on June 20th, Ben Mara Winery is having 90s night.
- 59:22SPEAKER_00: So from 630 to 930, there's going to be live music.
- 59:27SPEAKER_00: by Run for Cover.
- 59:28SPEAKER_00: Pretty exciting there.
- 59:29SPEAKER_00: They're going to have wine, pizza, and charcuterie.
- 59:32SPEAKER_00: But yeah, we're going to try to make it out there to just check it out.
- 59:36SPEAKER_00: Anything 90s, we're all about it.
- 59:38SPEAKER_00: That's pretty cool.
- 59:39SPEAKER_00: So yeah, if we can get out there.
- 59:40SPEAKER_00: It
- 59:41SPEAKER_02: says plenty of seating to chill out.
- 59:43SPEAKER_02: I like it.
- 59:44SPEAKER_02: Come join us.
- 59:45SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 59:46SPEAKER_02: Brick oven pizzas.
- 59:48SPEAKER_00: We'll be rubbing elbows.
- 59:49SPEAKER_00: Is that what they say?
- 59:51SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 59:52SPEAKER_00: That sounds gross.
- 59:53SPEAKER_00: Rubbing something.
- 59:55SPEAKER_00: Uh...
- 59:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_02: Run for cover.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_00: Have
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_02: you
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_00: heard of them?
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_00: I have not, but I'm excited to check them out.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we'll make it a point to be there.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_00: Let's rent
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_02: a bus.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_00: Oh, man.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_00: Can we do a Generation Gap bus?
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_00: That'd be awesome.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_00: But yeah, other than that, I would actually like to just give a shout out.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_00: To my friends, the band I play with.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_00: We're called Emergency Exit Only.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_00: One day I'll listen.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_00: One day.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_00: One day.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: And
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_02: live.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_00: So John, Alyssa, Sarah, Vin.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_00: Hi.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_00: Is
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_02: that the baby?
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_00: Vin?
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_00: Who's the baby?
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_00: He's the young gun.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_00: Very talented.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_00: Very talented.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_00: Very smart guy.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: They all are.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: They have a baby.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_00: Oh, oh, I thought you meant Vin because he's like 26.
- 1:00:54UNKNOWN: Oh.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_00: But yeah, awesome people.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_00: Cool.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_00: When we get some stuff up and going around these parts, I will plug us.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_00: Cool.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_00: But in the meantime, just wanted to say hi to them.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_02: Hi.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_00: So what do you got, anybody?
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: I was laying low this week.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_02: I had a lot going on.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_00: The 90s news segment, I think, is going to take a little bit of a break.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_00: I think that's fine.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_00: Because I can't find any 90s news.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah,
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_03: no.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_00: You know, because it's really just, it's becoming to the point where it's, like I said, I said jokingly, but it's true.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_00: It's either people who are dying or...
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: And nine
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: times out of ten, if they died, I don't know about it.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_02: Don't be a dick.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_00: Don't be a dick.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_00: Have a great week.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_00: And they say if you fall down nine times, get up ten.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_00: So keep getting up.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_02: Do it.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_00: While not being a dick.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_02: Do not be a dick.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_02: Please.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: Until next time.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_00: It's been real.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_02: Bye.
- 1:02:04UNKNOWN: Bye.
- 1:02:04UNKNOWN: Bye.
