- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio n RG Stadium in Houston, with
- 0:13Speaker 1: a Texans to face Jalen Hurts and the unbeaten Eagles.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Pills of fuck here, a couple of rush he prows
- 0:20Speaker 1: and it is and resembment. It's Carker Johnson. That's number
- 0:24Speaker 1: five for him on the season. Hurts looking, he is
- 0:29Speaker 1: firing and it is a touchstall a j blow Hurts
- 0:33Speaker 1: plate a little easier. Hurts gets it off though he
- 0:37Speaker 1: hasn't he places. He throws ples collar. First Eagles team
- 0:42Speaker 1: in history to go eight done. It is our number
- 0:54Speaker 1: two of NFL now Here on NFL Network, Mike, I
- 0:57Speaker 1: am with you. My buddy Steve White is gonna be
- 0:59Speaker 1: joining us in just a bit. We'll get a closer
- 1:01Speaker 1: look at Thursday Night football coming up, and Brian Baldinger
- 1:04Speaker 1: show our football minds. He's got everyone covered on an
- 1:07Speaker 1: offense that is very underrated. But there's some significant news
- 1:11Speaker 1: to get to. It's our latest headlines, and there's no
- 1:13Speaker 1: one better to give us the details than Ian Rappaport,
- 1:17Speaker 1: who joins us right now. Ian, give me the low
- 1:19Speaker 1: down here on Jonathan Taylor I feel like we just
- 1:22Speaker 1: missed the news in the last hour. I was able
- 1:24Speaker 1: to get it in shortly after you were on. You
- 1:25Speaker 1: were waiting for it, you were installed, you were stretching.
- 1:27Speaker 1: But you have some details. Jonathan Taylor officially declared out
- 1:32Speaker 1: for the Indianapolis Colts, and I would say a frustrating situation,
- 1:37Speaker 1: no doubt, but maybe not as surprise. Has not practiced
- 1:39Speaker 1: at all this week. And the other part of it
- 1:41Speaker 1: is this is an ankle injury that's been bothering him
- 1:43Speaker 1: really for the last couple of weeks. From my understanding
- 1:46Speaker 1: talking to someone earlier in the week, this was something
- 1:48Speaker 1: that was going to linger that Jonathan Tylor would have
- 1:51Speaker 1: to deal with every week, not a lot of practice time,
- 1:53Speaker 1: a lot of manage, a lot of rehab and all
- 1:56Speaker 1: that if he was going to continue to play. Not
- 1:58Speaker 1: playing this week, it makes you wonder if the culture
- 2:00Speaker 1: pulling back and saying, you know what, let's just let
- 2:03Speaker 1: this thing heal and when you get back in the
- 2:05Speaker 1: field you will be your old self. That is certainly
- 2:07Speaker 1: a possibility, but we know he is not going to
- 2:10Speaker 1: play this week. Uh. Meanwhile, Chuba Hubbard for the Carolina Panthers,
- 2:15Speaker 1: another running backers got a ton of ton of carriages.
- 2:17Speaker 1: He also has been ruled out, which if you look
- 2:20Speaker 1: at their team, if you look at the way they
- 2:21Speaker 1: are constructed, maybe not in the worst case. Dante Foreman
- 2:25Speaker 1: has also been just a workhorse and really a revelation
- 2:29Speaker 1: kind of like he was last year. So when the
- 2:31Speaker 1: Carolina Panthers love so, I would expect Yante Foreman to
- 2:34Speaker 1: get a ton of carries this week for a team
- 2:36Speaker 1: that really does like to run the ball in From
- 2:38Speaker 1: a Tennessee perspective, I think Titans fans would love to
- 2:41Speaker 1: see Derrick Henrin get another two yards on the game.
- 2:43Speaker 1: They'd also love to see their quarterback Ryan Tannehill healthy.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Where's his status living? No, we do not yet have
- 2:51Speaker 1: a firm designation on Ryan tannel Whether he will or
- 2:54Speaker 1: not play uh this week, wouldn't be surprised if you
- 2:56Speaker 1: listen is questionable. We will see what that is going forward.
- 3:00Speaker 1: What we do know is after missing practice yesterday, he
- 3:02Speaker 1: was spotted by local reporters at Aractice with a helmet
- 3:06Speaker 1: in uniform. He came in after the stretching period, but
- 3:09Speaker 1: at least he was out there, so whatever setback he
- 3:11Speaker 1: had with his ankle injury yesterday that prevented him for practicing.
- 3:15Speaker 1: At least it has improved enough to a point where
- 3:17Speaker 1: he can get on the field. We'll know more tomorrow,
- 3:19Speaker 1: perhaps to be participates in the walk through that will
- 3:22Speaker 1: be telling. But what we know is that Ryan dan
- 3:25Speaker 1: Hill was in fact at a portion of practice for
- 3:27Speaker 1: the Titans in Jets bills. Some news around Corey Davis
- 3:32Speaker 1: and his status. What is it Corey Davis dealing with
- 3:35Speaker 1: an m c L sprain. Also not going to play
- 3:38Speaker 1: this week. The hope is they get back after the
- 3:40Speaker 1: by so probably just missing two games, say relatively minor
- 3:45Speaker 1: m c L sprain, which means you're probably gonna see
- 3:47Speaker 1: some of Denzel Mims out there in the field for
- 3:50Speaker 1: the Jets. Coach Robert Salaz that his attitude has approved
- 3:53Speaker 1: over the last couple of weeks. Hasn't played much at
- 3:55Speaker 1: all this season. When he has played, has really been
- 3:57Speaker 1: a bright spot, so perhaps you will see more. Also,
- 4:00Speaker 1: sounds like you're likely to see more of Cooper Cup
- 4:03Speaker 1: this coming week. Heard his ankle late late late in
- 4:06Speaker 1: that game last week, did practice the first day of
- 4:08Speaker 1: the week, was out there yesterday talking to reporters after
- 4:11Speaker 1: the game said basically, his ancho feels good. It sounds
- 4:14Speaker 1: like he's optimistic. So I would imagine you will see
- 4:16Speaker 1: Cooper cub out there for the Rams, and I know
- 4:19Speaker 1: if there's any other news that trickles in, you will
- 4:21Speaker 1: be back on with us live here on NFL Now
- 4:23Speaker 1: with the details. Always appreciative man, Thank you. All right,
- 4:27Speaker 1: as promised, we focus in on a little TNF Eagles
- 4:32Speaker 1: Texans last night. Jalen Hurts a little bit of a
- 4:34Speaker 1: home coming for him to screw upbout twenty five miles
- 4:37Speaker 1: from Houston, and he was dealing a J. Brown. Four catches,
- 4:41Speaker 1: fifty nine yards and a touchdown. You know, it's kind
- 4:43Speaker 1: of crazy because like that's not not a good game
- 4:45Speaker 1: for him, considering what he's been able to do so
- 4:47Speaker 1: far this season, is still pretty good enough, though. Dallas
- 4:50Speaker 1: Goddard h he catches a hundred yards and that touchdown.
- 4:53Speaker 1: How about this from the Philadelphia perspective eight for the
- 4:57Speaker 1: first time in franchise history. C J. Gardner Johnson five
- 5:01Speaker 1: interceptions in forty three career games with New Orleans. Remember
- 5:04Speaker 1: Philly picked him up in August. He's got five picks
- 5:06Speaker 1: already this season, and what does that get you on
- 5:09Speaker 1: one on one with our James Palmer c J and
- 5:11Speaker 1: week two, I remember going to your locker and talking
- 5:13Speaker 1: to you and you said, I feel like I've been
- 5:15Speaker 1: playing here for a long time. I fit in with
- 5:17Speaker 1: this secondary. Is this the best secondary in football right now?
- 5:20Speaker 1: For serve with chains, slave meet Epps, Monte uh Con
- 5:27Speaker 1: while it's coming in. We got a nice little group
- 5:29Speaker 1: back then we put together. When we come in and
- 5:31Speaker 1: play together, we work out. We work hard every week.
- 5:33Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, Just deep films. So that's
- 5:35Speaker 1: all it is, you know, I Q is how do
- 5:37Speaker 1: you go out there and play fast? To anybody? I
- 5:39Speaker 1: know you're playing a new position and you're joined right
- 5:41Speaker 1: before the start of the season and you're leading the
- 5:42Speaker 1: NFL and picks. How comfortable are you and what you're
- 5:45Speaker 1: doing in philled up? I just want to thank Howie.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I want to thank Colase d. Will you know the
- 5:51Speaker 1: coach uh Sara Janni. They believe in me making a
- 5:54Speaker 1: big old change and one for this in the one
- 5:56Speaker 1: went for playing up front now playing the back, buttrolling
- 5:59Speaker 1: the deep ends. So it's like, really get all big us.
- 6:01Speaker 1: The coach will be coach Wilson. You know he uh
- 6:03Speaker 1: been on me because I came here in in the
- 6:05Speaker 1: morning's early extra phil study watching games, so I get
- 6:08Speaker 1: my que a little bit higher. And it's just the
- 6:10Speaker 1: way it places. What they happened. Your quarterback said he
- 6:12Speaker 1: wanted this to be a business trip, but pree game.
- 6:14Speaker 1: We saw him going down there, pumping up the fans,
- 6:15Speaker 1: getting a chance to play back in Houston. Did you
- 6:18Speaker 1: get a sense now the game's over, this meant something
- 6:20Speaker 1: to him. Yeah, that definitely needs on to him. But
- 6:21Speaker 1: we're gonna righty behind him. So if he put this
- 6:23Speaker 1: in motion behind we will too. So I'm happy he
- 6:26Speaker 1: got he guy he got got to win as a quarterback,
- 6:30Speaker 1: you know, come home for his home fans and go
- 6:32Speaker 1: on first time in the Eagles history. You're eight, No,
- 6:35Speaker 1: just started season. How does that feel? Gotta love it, baby,
- 6:39Speaker 1: that's fly enjoy it. Thank you Eagles fans. That whole
- 6:42Speaker 1: city flying high right now. Considering how some of those
- 6:45Speaker 1: sports franchises are handling business, Jim Trotter not to mention
- 6:48Speaker 1: my good buddy Steve White here with us, all right.
- 6:50Speaker 1: The interceptions one thing they gotta pick in every seven
- 6:53Speaker 1: of the eight games. So far this season. What stands
- 6:55Speaker 1: out for from your perspective of what you saw last night. Well, look,
- 6:59Speaker 1: I'm going to kind of take a counter vision here
- 7:01Speaker 1: because we're gonna be talking about Eagles a lot more
- 7:03Speaker 1: than we're talking about the Houston texas As. That was
- 7:05Speaker 1: their one prime time game, and you know, we know
- 7:08Speaker 1: the Texas. Their record is what it is and there
- 7:10Speaker 1: and they're still in part of a rebuild, maybe a
- 7:11Speaker 1: year away from being a year away. When you see
- 7:14Speaker 1: Damian Pierce and some of the flashes that you saw
- 7:17Speaker 1: at a quarterback, Davis Mills and some of the other players,
- 7:20Speaker 1: a foundation could possibly be here. Jim. Now, again, they've
- 7:23Speaker 1: got to start winning some ball games to put it
- 7:25Speaker 1: all together. You can have flashes here and there, but
- 7:28Speaker 1: you see what offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton is trying to do.
- 7:31Speaker 1: The identity he's trying to establish that offensive line was
- 7:34Speaker 1: getting a hat on some bodies for the Eagles up front.
- 7:37Speaker 1: So again, one of the rare time is gonna be
- 7:39Speaker 1: able to talk about the Texans because they did have
- 7:41Speaker 1: this primetime game. But it does seem like there is
- 7:44Speaker 1: a little glimmer of hope here, which is why I'm
- 7:46Speaker 1: just shining a little bit of love on the Red
- 7:49Speaker 1: helmets right here and Damian Pierce, and that grew Jimmy
- 7:52Speaker 1: want to love up Philly as if they needed more, Uh,
- 7:56Speaker 1: I love up Philly. Here Steve took care of the Texans.
- 8:00Speaker 1: My takeaway from that game was really about two things.
- 8:04Speaker 1: One the ovation and play of Jalen Hurts and to
- 8:07Speaker 1: the GM Howie Rosmith should be seriously considered for Executive
- 8:11Speaker 1: of the Year. When you look at the players who
- 8:13Speaker 1: made key plays in that game, you talk about H. J. Brown,
- 8:15Speaker 1: That's a guy they traded for. You talk about C. J.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Gardner Johnson, that's a guy they traded for. You go
- 8:21Speaker 1: out before the deadline and you get Robert Quinn. You
- 8:24Speaker 1: use the draft to bring in a guy like Jordan
- 8:26Speaker 1: Davis who when he is on the field, that run
- 8:28Speaker 1: defense is significantly better by about two yards per carry.
- 8:33Speaker 1: And then let's talk about the move that he doesn't make,
- 8:35Speaker 1: and that's in the off season, not going out and
- 8:37Speaker 1: trying to find another quarterback to replace Jalen Hurts to
- 8:41Speaker 1: committing to Jalen Hurts. So when I put all that together,
- 8:44Speaker 1: what I see a team is I see a team
- 8:47Speaker 1: that has been uh structured tremendously in terms of finding
- 8:51Speaker 1: playmakers through trades, through free agency and the draft, and
- 8:55Speaker 1: a lot of that has to fall obviously on the
- 8:57Speaker 1: front office. Jim, I think it's a really good point,
- 8:59Speaker 1: especially the one about Jalen Hurts. There were some questions
- 9:01Speaker 1: about whether this guy was gonna Yeah, the long term
- 9:04Speaker 1: salute san for this squad, one of those first round
- 9:07Speaker 1: picks on the quarterback coming up at twenty three and
- 9:09Speaker 1: guess what they get to had a couple of talented
- 9:11Speaker 1: players because it looks like they have their guy. Jim,
- 9:13Speaker 1: I know more from you coming up in just a bit,
- 9:15Speaker 1: but we actually have some news just coming into the
- 9:17Speaker 1: NFL Network news room. It is new right now, you know,
- 9:19Speaker 1: Heed and wrapping. What was telling us, Hey, the status
- 9:22Speaker 1: of Ryan Tannehill still up in the air. Well, it
- 9:25Speaker 1: turns out he was limited in practice, so he's actually
- 9:28Speaker 1: a game time decision against the Chiefs. Remember he missed
- 9:31Speaker 1: the Titans win against the Texans in Week eight dealing
- 9:33Speaker 1: with that ankle injuries, some illness. We saw Malik Willis
- 9:36Speaker 1: get his first start. Still the possibility we see Willis
- 9:39Speaker 1: out on the football field, but at least Ryan Tannehill
- 9:42Speaker 1: trending ever so slightly to playing against the Chiefs once again,
- 9:46Speaker 1: a game time decision against Kansas City. All right, still
- 9:51Speaker 1: to come here on NFL now. Aaron Rodgers and Pack
- 9:54Speaker 1: head into the Steel City Sunday, hoping to avoid their
- 9:56Speaker 1: fifth straight loss. It hurt me right well, Detroit's dB
- 9:59Speaker 1: exactly what Aaron Rodgers needs to get back on track.
- 10:02Speaker 1: We got an insider with an analytical look coming up
- 10:05Speaker 1: nedictate life. Still, let right back here on NFL now.
- 10:15Speaker 1: It is just coming into the NFL Network news for room,
- 10:18Speaker 1: and just a couple of moments ago, Sean McVeigh making
- 10:20Speaker 1: it official. Wide receiver Cooper Cup will indeed play against
- 10:24Speaker 1: the Buccaneers. He was dealing with that ankle injury tweaked
- 10:27Speaker 1: it against the forty Niners, but as Ian Rapp Report
- 10:29Speaker 1: also told us in this hour it was trending in
- 10:31Speaker 1: this direction, but sham McVeigh at this point making it
- 10:34Speaker 1: official for a little bit more on this matchup, as
- 10:37Speaker 1: well as some other big games from pf F. It's
- 10:40Speaker 1: Sam Monson who's with us. He is their lead NFL analyst.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Not to mention the co host of the p F
- 10:45Speaker 1: NFL podcast. All right, take me through this matchup, specifically
- 10:49Speaker 1: Sam from a quarterback perspective, because Matthew Stafford, Tom Brady,
- 10:53Speaker 1: we've analyzed their games, We've we've pointed to some of
- 10:56Speaker 1: the deficiencies that we've seen in terms of scoring and
- 10:59Speaker 1: these offenses not getting going. What are you seeing? Yeah,
- 11:03Speaker 1: both guys obviously strong going, but I think one it's
- 11:06Speaker 1: much easier to draw a direct line as to the
- 11:09Speaker 1: main problem. It's it's Matthew Stafford and the Rams. I
- 11:12Speaker 1: think you could kind of predict this coming a little
- 11:14Speaker 1: bit before the season, but even I am flabbergasted by
- 11:18Speaker 1: how bad this offensive line has been. The last time
- 11:21Speaker 1: the Rams offensive line was anywhere near this bad was
- 11:25Speaker 1: and they went nine and seven and missed the playoffs.
- 11:28Speaker 1: They rank dead last in PFS pass blocking efficiency this year.
- 11:32Speaker 1: They've given up nineties seven total pressures. Matthew Stafford's great
- 11:35Speaker 1: at suffering. The production is suffering last week is averaged
- 11:39Speaker 1: at the target was less than five yards down field
- 11:42Speaker 1: because they're just desperately trying to protect that offensive line,
- 11:45Speaker 1: and it means that they can't run the Sean McVeigh offense.
- 11:48Speaker 1: They can't run the offense that usually makes them so
- 11:51Speaker 1: productive and so good on that side of the ball, Uh, Sam,
- 11:55Speaker 1: you know here, and I would imagine it's the same
- 11:57Speaker 1: for you at PFF. You know, before the week, you
- 12:00Speaker 1: get like a stack of research notes and I can't
- 12:03Speaker 1: help but notice that there's a lot of negative production
- 12:06Speaker 1: facts around Aaron Rodgers. But on the flip side, I
- 12:09Speaker 1: look at the rankings for Detroit and it's like dead last,
- 12:12Speaker 1: dead last, and all these major statistical categories on the
- 12:16Speaker 1: defensive side, Is this the breakout game that we've been
- 12:19Speaker 1: waiting for for Rogers in Green Bay? Yeah, it really
- 12:22Speaker 1: could be. Nothing's going well for that Green Bay offense
- 12:25Speaker 1: right now. And that's again it's like the Rams. There's
- 12:27Speaker 1: a very obvious reason why they don't ad receivers that
- 12:29Speaker 1: can separate, that can get open, that can make plays,
- 12:32Speaker 1: and so everything isn't working as well. But there's various
- 12:36Speaker 1: little bits of statistical telltale signs that say that the
- 12:39Speaker 1: exquisite m VP caliber Aaron Rodgers is still in there.
- 12:43Speaker 1: He's the number one graded quarterback in the NFL a
- 12:45Speaker 1: PFF in the red zone, he's the number one graded
- 12:48Speaker 1: quarterback throwing at the tight windows, which is all he
- 12:51Speaker 1: has to work with because those receivers don't get open.
- 12:54Speaker 1: But the Lions defense, it ranks thirty second in ep
- 12:57Speaker 1: E for play. They give up wide open spaces to receivers.
- 13:01Speaker 1: So I think this is a great spot for Rogers
- 13:04Speaker 1: to look a little bit more like the m v P.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Rogers of old. Doesn't necessarily mean it's all fixed of
- 13:10Speaker 1: going forward, Sam Monday Night, Lamar Jackson, we got him,
- 13:14Speaker 1: we got Andy Dalton, and the Saints Ian Rappaport just
- 13:17Speaker 1: gave us the news a little while ago about Bateman
- 13:19Speaker 1: not being healthy. He's gonna obviously miss the rest of
- 13:22Speaker 1: the season, so that's one major threat that Lamar doesn't
- 13:24Speaker 1: have in the mix. But statistically speaking, is there something
- 13:27Speaker 1: that stands out about this matchup? Well, the fact that
- 13:31Speaker 1: in PF grades, Andy Dalton actually has a higher PFF
- 13:35Speaker 1: grade right now that Lamar Jackson does, which doesn't mean
- 13:38Speaker 1: that Andy Dalton is a better quarterback. We know that
- 13:40Speaker 1: that isn't true. It's obviously not true, but it speaks
- 13:44Speaker 1: to the kind of consistency that he's had starting for
- 13:47Speaker 1: the Saints this year and why he's still in that job.
- 13:49Speaker 1: He's been ticking off these consistently pretty good performances hasn't
- 13:53Speaker 1: made a ton of mistakes. You know. You look at
- 13:55Speaker 1: the game where he had a bunch of turnovers. They
- 13:58Speaker 1: weren't really on him, they were unlucky plays. But he's
- 14:01Speaker 1: been able to deliver the ball where it needs to go.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Rookies like Chris lave been fantastic, and even without Michael Thomas,
- 14:07Speaker 1: that receiving corps is still pretty good with guys like
- 14:11Speaker 1: Alvin Kamara and a Lava, you know, leading all rookies
- 14:14Speaker 1: in yards and catches and first downs and all these
- 14:17Speaker 1: kinds of things. So Andy Dalton gives that offense a
- 14:20Speaker 1: pretty high floor and that's why his great is as
- 14:23Speaker 1: good as it is. Yeah. You know, over the weekend,
- 14:25Speaker 1: I was working with Maurice Jones threw and m j
- 14:26Speaker 1: D said, look, if this team continues to get healthier,
- 14:29Speaker 1: they are a major threatn now in the division, but
- 14:31Speaker 1: also in the NFC. An interesting stat there would not
- 14:34Speaker 1: have guessed hit. And something tells me though, Sam Lamar
- 14:36Speaker 1: still going to get paid at some point on that deal. Sam,
- 14:39Speaker 1: great stuff. Man, Hey time, thanks for having me. Wait
- 14:47Speaker 1: are you ready to go? Dominad around Maholmes magic? How
- 14:58Speaker 1: about that? Ed Live by Patrick Mahomes ward on them.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Holmes is cutting him up today with his offense and
- 15:05Speaker 1: branch Derrick Henry side running difference between this league and
- 15:14Speaker 1: Arcade and got Derrick Henry it does. It is nice
- 15:19Speaker 1: when you actually have the Henry in the backfield. But boy,
- 15:22Speaker 1: we got some stars in this one. The health status
- 15:24Speaker 1: for Ryan Tannehill, as Ian Rapidport told us a little
- 15:27Speaker 1: bit earlier in the show, still up in the air,
- 15:28Speaker 1: but it looks like Malik Willis we'll be out there.
- 15:32Speaker 1: It wasn't necessarily pretty and his first NFL start against
- 15:35Speaker 1: Houston last week, a tall task to keep up pace
- 15:37Speaker 1: with the league's number one offense. And that Patrick Mahomes guy,
- 15:40Speaker 1: he's pretty good for a little bit more. Jeffrey Sndia
- 15:43Speaker 1: is with us. It's gonna be covering this matchup. Man,
- 15:45Speaker 1: it's good to see. I feel like I haven't talked
- 15:47Speaker 1: to you in a little bit. Here. Give me the
- 15:48Speaker 1: skinny because this is I don't know people realize this,
- 15:52Speaker 1: but three. That was the score last time around, and
- 15:55Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes team not victorious. So how do you use
- 15:58Speaker 1: that game a year ago to motivate you for the
- 16:01Speaker 1: lash up that we're going to see this week not
- 16:04Speaker 1: just seven three Mike, but they've lost five of the
- 16:06Speaker 1: last six games to the Tennessee Titans, excluding the an
- 16:09Speaker 1: FC championship game for a few years ago. And Patrick
- 16:11Speaker 1: Mahomes talked about this specific loss last year, saying that
- 16:15Speaker 1: he watched the film and it's really humbling to see
- 16:18Speaker 1: that kind of performance. Not only did the Chiefs play poorly,
- 16:21Speaker 1: but Titans really just played a great game against them,
- 16:24Speaker 1: took them apart in the first half, ran the ball down,
- 16:26Speaker 1: their throw, hit the play action passes, and my home said,
- 16:29Speaker 1: this is the kind of game you know coming in
- 16:31Speaker 1: that people may not respect the Titans on social media
- 16:35Speaker 1: or within traditional media. This is a very good team.
- 16:38Speaker 1: They've won five straight games, and they always give the
- 16:40Speaker 1: Chiefs a tough time. Okay, what about from a schematic standpoint,
- 16:44Speaker 1: this Chief's defense. How concerned are they right now in
- 16:47Speaker 1: terms of that play action pass even if it's Malik Willis,
- 16:50Speaker 1: that's going to be the guy as this team's signal color. Yeah,
- 16:54Speaker 1: they're very much aware of the fact that even if
- 16:56Speaker 1: Ryan Daniel Camp play in this game and as Malik Willis,
- 16:58Speaker 1: that that play action is going to be a part
- 17:00Speaker 1: of this offense. You know last week they only threw
- 17:02Speaker 1: the ball ten times against the Texans and ran three
- 17:05Speaker 1: hundred plus yards. But defensive coordinator Stings Bagnolos said, the
- 17:08Speaker 1: tough part where you have Derrick Henry in your backfield
- 17:11Speaker 1: is trying to find a way to deal with him
- 17:13Speaker 1: and cover up the fact that you've got single coverage
- 17:16Speaker 1: somewhere in your defensive backfield. He's told his secondary, his linebackers,
- 17:20Speaker 1: you have to be ready because you have to own
- 17:22Speaker 1: your role in this game. They will take shots when
- 17:24Speaker 1: they have opportunities because they will run the football consistently
- 17:27Speaker 1: and effectively, and they will look for those opportunities against
- 17:30Speaker 1: this defense. Jeff dare I say, I'm jealous of you, man.
- 17:33Speaker 1: You get to see Mahomes and magician and Derrick Henry
- 17:36Speaker 1: the human tank enjoyed this matchup. Man. Hopefully we'll get
- 17:40Speaker 1: a chance to talk next week. How about this Josh
- 17:42Speaker 1: Allen four and oh against the Jets. Since dude has
- 17:46Speaker 1: been an absolute monster, Zach will send a little bit
- 17:48Speaker 1: on the struggle bus right now. Lois passer rating among
- 17:51Speaker 1: thirty five quarterbacks with at least ten starts dating back
- 17:54Speaker 1: to last season. Those three picks against New England a
- 17:56Speaker 1: little frustrating. Here here's his head coach, Robert Salo. We
- 18:01Speaker 1: always feel like the ultimate measuring stick is ourselves. Um.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Every week you play in the NFL, there's so much
- 18:06Speaker 1: parody that every game is a measuring stick and it's
- 18:09Speaker 1: not necessarily a measuring stick against your opponent's a measuring
- 18:11Speaker 1: stick against yourself. And what can you do better than
- 18:14Speaker 1: you did the day before? If you will and um,
- 18:17Speaker 1: so you have to have the mindset you can't make
- 18:19Speaker 1: one team bigger than the other, otherwise you're going to
- 18:21Speaker 1: create inconsistency in the way you play. And so for us,
- 18:25Speaker 1: the challenges go out there and you're really measuring yourself
- 18:28Speaker 1: against you and if you are better than you were
- 18:32Speaker 1: the day before, then you feel like it's just gonna
- 18:34Speaker 1: it'll be good enough. And so with regards to measuring stick,
- 18:37Speaker 1: it's it's always about us. But Zach, you watched the
- 18:40Speaker 1: progress he's made from year one, year two, and um
- 18:44Speaker 1: and the weapons he has around them as well, and
- 18:46Speaker 1: how he gets the ball to those guys and UM,
- 18:49Speaker 1: so they're they've whether it's Sauce Gardner or Garrett in
- 18:53Speaker 1: this case, or they've get a lot of young talent
- 18:56Speaker 1: on that football team. We got. I get Coach mcdermo
- 18:59Speaker 1: one of those nice little fancy ring like ring. If
- 19:01Speaker 1: you back mark, Mark, you look great. And part of
- 19:04Speaker 1: it is the lighting um and maybe a little bit
- 19:07Speaker 1: of makeup as well. Mark. I want to circle back
- 19:09Speaker 1: to the Jets three picks. Zach Wilson after that game said,
- 19:13Speaker 1: hey man, I made some bone headed throws against New England.
- 19:15Speaker 1: We get that. It's not going to get easier though
- 19:17Speaker 1: against the Bills not at all. And coach McDermot is
- 19:21Speaker 1: being nice there saying Zack Wilson has made progress. But
- 19:24Speaker 1: when you watch Zack Wilson, he looks like he has
- 19:26Speaker 1: not made progress. It looks like he's going back to
- 19:28Speaker 1: the first starting Zach Wilson of his rookie year. And
- 19:32Speaker 1: look what I evaluated Zack Wilson coming out of college.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Do you love the little moxie he had, the playmaking
- 19:37Speaker 1: that he had off schedule plays that he could do.
- 19:39Speaker 1: But now when you watch him, it's like every play
- 19:42Speaker 1: he tries to do that, and every play he tries
- 19:44Speaker 1: to play hero ball and that just doesn't work in
- 19:46Speaker 1: the NFL. And we saw the mistakes that he had
- 19:49Speaker 1: last week with the three bad interceptions despite him throwing
- 19:52Speaker 1: for a career high three five guards. And those are
- 19:55Speaker 1: the problems with Zach Wilson. He gets too scattered, he
- 19:58Speaker 1: doesn't see the field well, he gets jumpy in the pocket.
- 20:02Speaker 1: So that's the the issue. Now he knows he has
- 20:04Speaker 1: to prove on that and he talks about it every week.
- 20:08Speaker 1: But this is what separates great quarterbacks from average quarterbacks
- 20:11Speaker 1: the bad quarterbacks is that you can't do anything about it.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Sometimes those bad quarterbacks, when the pressure hits them, they
- 20:17Speaker 1: can't function. And hopefully that Wilson, for the deaths take
- 20:20Speaker 1: will get out of that. But we talk about get
- 20:22Speaker 1: right games, Steve. This is not the Bills defense and
- 20:25Speaker 1: try to get right against for Zach Wilson. Yeah, look,
- 20:27Speaker 1: I mean you talk about what separates the good quarterbacks
- 20:29Speaker 1: and the great quarterbacks. The Bill's defensive front has made
- 20:32Speaker 1: pretty much every quarterback not look good this season that
- 20:35Speaker 1: they faced. And to me, they're the dictators of this game, right,
- 20:37Speaker 1: They're gonna dictate how this game goes. If if Greg
- 20:40Speaker 1: Russo and Von Miller just two great sack specialists on
- 20:43Speaker 1: the edges and tandem with that rotation of just physically
- 20:47Speaker 1: dominant tackles they have can slow down the run game,
- 20:50Speaker 1: create pressure from all angles. It is gonna be the
- 20:53Speaker 1: worst nightmare for Zack Wilson. Add on to the fact
- 20:56Speaker 1: that the Bills get those leads and they can turn
- 20:58Speaker 1: their guys loose. Right, those guys up front aren't playing
- 21:01Speaker 1: reads for the run. They're getting upfield tackles for loss,
- 21:04Speaker 1: sacks on quarterback. That is the great formula for what's
- 21:08Speaker 1: worked for the Bills this year, and that's why Zach
- 21:10Speaker 1: Wilson having a face this front it is tough because
- 21:13Speaker 1: again that front four for Buffalo is as good as
- 21:15Speaker 1: you get in the NFL, and they will dictate exactly
- 21:19Speaker 1: the flow of this game. This just defense is really good.
- 21:22Speaker 1: If they lose this game, though, I wonder what those
- 21:24Speaker 1: conversations in the locker room are gonna be like, because
- 21:26Speaker 1: all of a sudden, it's two losses in a row.
- 21:28Speaker 1: If Zack doesn't play well again, I don't know what
- 21:30Speaker 1: If the Jets starts stretching over two losses in a
- 21:33Speaker 1: row after what they've been through, then that's progress. That's
- 21:36Speaker 1: actolutely a good thing. But this is progress now. Sitting
- 21:39Speaker 1: at five and three as a playoff. Is these losses
- 21:42Speaker 1: start mounting up, maybe we're not talking about them as
- 21:45Speaker 1: a postseason squad. Mark, no makeup aside, you're still good
- 21:48Speaker 1: looking to do. I didn't mean to throw that out
- 21:50Speaker 1: there that you need at the makeup. We'll hear from
- 21:52Speaker 1: you in just a bit here, all right, Marcus Mariota
- 21:54Speaker 1: the Falcon sitting pretty atop the NFC South and heard
- 21:57Speaker 1: me right. It's a big matchup that we gotually covered.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Jim to Mark break it all down while you're coming
- 22:03Speaker 1: up next, Chargers and Falcons the focus justin Herbert three
- 22:12Speaker 1: street games with a sub one D passer rating. Probably
- 22:15Speaker 1: a good time to take on the league's worst past defense,
- 22:18Speaker 1: the Falcons, who are in first place in the division
- 22:21Speaker 1: giving up over three hundred yards in the air proceeds.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Heard me right, first in the division, Jim trying to
- 22:27Speaker 1: Mark Ross back with us right now, Jim, you'll be
- 22:29Speaker 1: covering this particular matchup. Is there a guy in a
- 22:33Speaker 1: Falcons uniform that's grabbing your attention? Yeah, and and he's
- 22:37Speaker 1: not a household name here. It's wide receiver Jamir Bird. Now,
- 22:40Speaker 1: why do I say he's not a household name? He's
- 22:42Speaker 1: a seventh year veteran. He's with his fifth team, and
- 22:46Speaker 1: in the first three weeks he was inactive. In the
- 22:48Speaker 1: next three games he did not have a catch. But
- 22:50Speaker 1: over the last two weeks he has really come on
- 22:53Speaker 1: for the Falcons. He had a seven five yard touchdown
- 22:56Speaker 1: reception against the Bengals. In last week he had sixty
- 22:59Speaker 1: seven yards receiving, including a forty seven yard catch and
- 23:02Speaker 1: run touchdown. So he's coming for them at a time
- 23:05Speaker 1: obviously where they need playmaking. There's a lot of excitement
- 23:08Speaker 1: about Cordarrel Patterson returning to practice this week, but what
- 23:12Speaker 1: Bird gives them is a guy who can take the
- 23:14Speaker 1: top off the defense and make plays. Now, he's never
- 23:17Speaker 1: had more than two touchdown receptions in a season, so
- 23:19Speaker 1: he's looking to extend that. And this is the first
- 23:22Speaker 1: time he's ever had touchdowns and back to back games.
- 23:25Speaker 1: So whatever he does from here from a career standpoint,
- 23:28Speaker 1: would seem to be icing. But he is a guy
- 23:30Speaker 1: that I will be keeping an eye on on Sunday, Jim,
- 23:32Speaker 1: we showed those touchdowns while while you were speaking. If
- 23:35Speaker 1: you get the high end angle, my lord man catching
- 23:38Speaker 1: those angles and the speedster that's you'd had another gear
- 23:40Speaker 1: on the football field. It was a ton of fun
- 23:42Speaker 1: to watch over the weekend in a great game against Carolina.
- 23:46Speaker 1: Mark from a Chargers perspective, this is kind of weird
- 23:49Speaker 1: for me to say. There's some inconsistencies on the offensive side,
- 23:52Speaker 1: which I didn't think we would have anticipated coming in.
- 23:54Speaker 1: I think there's probably some reasons for it. But why
- 23:56Speaker 1: are you not overly concerned? Not overly concerned, but you
- 24:00Speaker 1: mentioned the inconsistencies and Justin Herbert at times looked like
- 24:03Speaker 1: he's taking a step back. Well, he's been playing without
- 24:06Speaker 1: all of his key playmakers for a lot of the season,
- 24:09Speaker 1: stretches of the season, the fourth and fifth wide receivers
- 24:12Speaker 1: with Keenan Allen injuries, that Mike Williams injuries where Shawn
- 24:15Speaker 1: Slater went out earlier in the season as well. So, yeah,
- 24:19Speaker 1: that's going to lead to a lot of inconsistencies with
- 24:21Speaker 1: the offense and the lack of development for Justin Herbert,
- 24:24Speaker 1: because yes, you like to have all your playmakers involved.
- 24:28Speaker 1: We saw the difference with Joe Burrow last week with
- 24:30Speaker 1: just having Jamaar Chase out for one game and how
- 24:33Speaker 1: different their offense look now. Put that on Justin Herbert
- 24:36Speaker 1: and all the pieces that he has out and really
- 24:38Speaker 1: their offenses him relying on Austin Ekeler and Austin Ekeler
- 24:42Speaker 1: could this weekend, if he catches over ten passes, become
- 24:45Speaker 1: the first running back in NFL history to have three
- 24:47Speaker 1: straight games with ten plus catches. So maybe not this game,
- 24:51Speaker 1: but the Atlanta is a perfect opponent to get it
- 24:54Speaker 1: against twenty nine and scoring with their defenses. But for
- 24:57Speaker 1: the long haul of the season, if they get all
- 24:59Speaker 1: these guys back, you should see much improved Chargers offense.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Sorry to say that, Jim, I'm with you. I'm fine.
- 25:08Speaker 1: I'm one of those people who said I thought they
- 25:10Speaker 1: would win the division. So if they get them back
- 25:13Speaker 1: and they play well, it makes me look good either way. Jim,
- 25:16Speaker 1: you're right, and cover your basis, cover to all the
- 25:18Speaker 1: all the different angles that are there. And Mark, by
- 25:20Speaker 1: the way, Austin Ekeler fantasy owners smiling ear to hear.
- 25:23Speaker 1: They're like, Yo, give me the rock, baby, here here
- 25:25Speaker 1: we go. Let's get some points and win on Sundays. Hey, Mark, uh,
- 25:30Speaker 1: we're here from you and just a little bit here Jim,
- 25:32Speaker 1: you as well. Always great insight from both of you guys.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I bring up that fantasy aspect of things, because I
- 25:36Speaker 1: know you didn't draft him to throw the football in
- 25:38Speaker 1: your fantasy leagues, will focus on Brown's wide receiver. Marie
- 25:41Speaker 1: Cooper's production as a wide receiver on a three and
- 25:45Speaker 1: five squad coming off six catches, I'll buck thirty one
- 25:48Speaker 1: and that win against Cincinnati, Cooper actually in the top
- 25:50Speaker 1: ten in receiving yards, which is definitely a good sign
- 25:54Speaker 1: for fantasy owners. But if you need a little help
- 25:56Speaker 1: at terms of that wide receiver spot, our Fantasy Live
- 25:58Speaker 1: crewise got you covered. It is buy Mgeddon. As we
- 26:03Speaker 1: hit in Week nine of the Fantasy Football All Season,
- 26:05Speaker 1: six teams on a by which means you're gonna be
- 26:07Speaker 1: short some players, especially at wide receivers. So we've got
- 26:10Speaker 1: four guys who might be able to plug into your
- 26:12Speaker 1: lineups this week. Florio, who is a streaming option at
- 26:15Speaker 1: wide receiver. Terris Marshall Jr. I think is a really
- 26:18Speaker 1: strong option this week from the Panthers. He's played at
- 26:20Speaker 1: least of the snaps in two straight games. He had
- 26:24Speaker 1: nine targets last week, three of which came in the
- 26:26Speaker 1: end zone. He's looking like their best red zone weapon
- 26:29Speaker 1: in the passing game which helps for touchdowns, and he
- 26:31Speaker 1: has a pretty good matchup against the bang up, banged
- 26:33Speaker 1: up secondary and the Bengals. This week, I'm looking at
- 26:36Speaker 1: Rashid Shahid. We saw the news about Michael Thomas being
- 26:39Speaker 1: placed on the I R or placed on the I
- 26:41Speaker 1: R either way, and when I'm looking to see who
- 26:44Speaker 1: is going to be the subject of more passes, well,
- 26:46Speaker 1: it's not gonna be that different because we haven't seen
- 26:48Speaker 1: really Michael Thomas play. So this is a great option.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Lots of upside. Of course, we have to wait till
- 26:53Speaker 1: Monday for this, but such as life, we'll take of
- 26:55Speaker 1: Monday Night guy as well, and I'll say Devin Duverney.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Of course, with Rashad Bateman put on the I R
- 27:00Speaker 1: as well this season, that means more production for Devin Duverney,
- 27:04Speaker 1: and of course we've seen him have some quality games
- 27:06Speaker 1: so far this season. Now, I caution you because this
- 27:09Speaker 1: Ravens offense is going to be focused on going through
- 27:12Speaker 1: the tight ends. Greg Roman's offenses always do that, but
- 27:16Speaker 1: for this week, in a situation where you're probably trying
- 27:19Speaker 1: to stream a wide receiver as so many teams on
- 27:21Speaker 1: a buy Devin DuVernay would be one of my recommendations. Well,
- 27:24Speaker 1: you're probably looking for wide receivers, so are the Chargers.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Mike Williams is out and Alan trending the wrong direction.
- 27:29Speaker 1: So I like Josh Palmer as an option for Justin Herbert,
- 27:33Speaker 1: and that Charger passing offense is gonna get more opportunity.
- 27:36Speaker 1: And he's going against the Atlanta Falcons, who have given
- 27:38Speaker 1: up a ton of yards and a lot of touchdowns
- 27:40Speaker 1: to wide receivers this season. Josh Palmer is a nice,
- 27:42Speaker 1: sneaky opportunity in Week nine. You want more information like that,
- 27:46Speaker 1: and a whole lot of other fantasy goodness, you should
- 27:48Speaker 1: to check us out on NFL Fantasy Live every single weekday.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Packers lines. Let's get you set. Green Bay trying to
- 27:55Speaker 1: figure things out. Three and five this season, scoring just
- 27:57Speaker 1: eighteen points per game, that's good for six in the league.
- 28:01Speaker 1: They get a Lions team and all kinds of trouble,
- 28:03Speaker 1: one win, dead lasting defense, just trading one of its
- 28:05Speaker 1: best offensive players and t J Atkinson. Here's the head coach,
- 28:08Speaker 1: Dan Campbell on facing a pretty good quarterback in Aaron Rodgers. Well,
- 28:13Speaker 1: for us, it's gonna be important like any other week,
- 28:16Speaker 1: especially with a guy who knows how to work the
- 28:18Speaker 1: pocket can break contain. We have to discipline in our
- 28:22Speaker 1: rush pocket integrity, rush integrity. We have to push the pocket.
- 28:26Speaker 1: You can't get greedy and start thinking inside that you're
- 28:29Speaker 1: gonna get one man. Just do your job, push the
- 28:32Speaker 1: pocket outside. We cannot rush by him. We have to
- 28:35Speaker 1: close it in on and and uh, you know, make
- 28:38Speaker 1: him will make a more difficult throw. Meanwhile, the Jackson Raiders,
- 28:43Speaker 1: each with two wins apiece hard to figure out both
- 28:46Speaker 1: of these teams. Raiders just shut out for the first
- 28:48Speaker 1: time since Jags. They've lost five straight watching Trevor Lawrence
- 28:52Speaker 1: just give the ball away nine times since week number four.
- 28:55Speaker 1: His coach Doug Peterson facing the media today, Lone Adams,
- 29:02Speaker 1: Darren Waller, Josh Shaking. It's sort of like a three
- 29:04Speaker 1: hitden Monster. How much stress going to put our defense?
- 29:07Speaker 1: All three of them are great players, Um, a lot
- 29:10Speaker 1: of production in the league, and uh, you know, then
- 29:12Speaker 1: throwing Derek Carr you know, Um, yeah, it can stress
- 29:15Speaker 1: the defense, you know, because you've gotta think about, you know,
- 29:19Speaker 1: resources on defense going where you're gonna put them, you know,
- 29:21Speaker 1: and who are you gonna try to take away. So, um,
- 29:25Speaker 1: it's a challenge defensively, and um, you know it's something
- 29:29Speaker 1: that I know our guys are are ready for. Mac
- 29:33Speaker 1: Jones me. While second worst TV tow interception ratio in
- 29:37Speaker 1: the league. It's been a mixed bag for the Patriots,
- 29:39Speaker 1: but Bill Belichick's defense gets a crack at Sam Ellinger,
- 29:42Speaker 1: who's making his second career start after losing his debut
- 29:45Speaker 1: against the Commander's last week. Frank Craik, We're excited about
- 29:52Speaker 1: the opportunity, and we know Belichick's the best ever, especially
- 29:55Speaker 1: going up against young quarterbacks. Um, you know it's got
- 29:58Speaker 1: to take It's a team effort, right, So um, they
- 30:02Speaker 1: play very well defensively, they have a good scheme, they're
- 30:04Speaker 1: very Gay week oriented. They're gonna, you know, they're gonna
- 30:07Speaker 1: have a certain way that they're going to do things,
- 30:10Speaker 1: and um, you know, we we gotta be we we're
- 30:13Speaker 1: going with the plan. But always against the Belichick team,
- 30:16Speaker 1: you've got to be ready to adapt as you're going.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Game Belichick pretty good. Alright, Time for some fast facts,
- 30:23Speaker 1: bringing new facts that you're gonna get nowhere else. Fast
- 30:26Speaker 1: fact for you. Here we go, Tom Brady hundred thirty
- 30:30Speaker 1: six career passing yards. In fact, Brady only needs a
- 30:34Speaker 1: hundred and sixty four passing yards to become the first
- 30:36Speaker 1: player in NFL history with one hundred thousand career passing yards.
- 30:41Speaker 1: I don't need to be Cynthia Freeland to know that's
- 30:43Speaker 1: highly likely going to happen, if not this weekend, very
- 30:47Speaker 1: very soon. Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers has not recorded three hundred
- 30:50Speaker 1: yards passing in a single game this season, and in
- 30:54Speaker 1: no game has he thrown for more than three touchdowns.
- 30:56Speaker 1: It's the first time in his career that he hasn't
- 30:58Speaker 1: hit either mark in the first eight games. In fact,
- 31:01Speaker 1: Rogers has not even eclipse two hundred and sixty yards
- 31:05Speaker 1: passing this season. I know you're surprised. I'm not alone.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Fast fact here, all right, Tyreek Kill Jaylen Waddle sixteen
- 31:13Speaker 1: hundred and eighty eight combined receiving yards each rank in
- 31:16Speaker 1: the top four and individual receiving yards in two. In fact,
- 31:21Speaker 1: the last teammate duo to finish a season in the
- 31:24Speaker 1: top four and receiving yards. I actually thought it was
- 31:27Speaker 1: Tory Holton Isaac Bruce. It's not Hall of famers Marvin
- 31:29Speaker 1: Harrison and Reggie Wayne in two thousand six of the
- 31:31Speaker 1: Colts who ended up winning Super Bowl One. Fast fact
- 31:36Speaker 1: here Austin Ekeler, The students get loved up here on
- 31:38Speaker 1: NFL Now. Fifty three scrimmage touchdowns is a Charger fifth
- 31:41Speaker 1: most in team history. In fact, I knew an LT
- 31:44Speaker 1: thing was coming here. The only Chargers with more scrimmage
- 31:47Speaker 1: touchdowns in history, Yeah, it's LT. Lance Allworth as well.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Also got to include legendary ton Ends Antonio Gates wide
- 31:55Speaker 1: receiver Gary Garnerson, who played ten years with the Chargers
