- 0:01Speaker 1: Lady young and avoiding her old long have then wait
- 0:04Speaker 1: more and more. Welcome to Boss the territory, Ladies and gentlemen.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest with you. We've had that intro
- 0:31Speaker 1: for a little bit now, but that intro gets me
- 0:33Speaker 1: revved up every single time. I'm just gonna say it,
- 0:36Speaker 1: But hi doing everybody, Welcome to the episode here tonight.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Uh hey, We've had a lot going on here over
- 0:42Speaker 1: the last four hours or so. I meane, we were
- 0:45Speaker 1: live last night at this time talking about the big
- 0:47Speaker 1: trade with Wilson Contreras. You know, there was a lot
- 0:52Speaker 1: to think about with that one last night, because you know,
- 0:54Speaker 1: you had to react to the contrerass move, which I did,
- 0:57Speaker 1: like I'll go over that yet again here and just
- 1:00Speaker 1: little bit, but we're all thinking, all right, who is
- 1:02Speaker 1: gonna be the next bat? You know, are you gonna
- 1:04Speaker 1: be really looking for a big bopper out there? Or
- 1:07Speaker 1: are you gonna look to bring Alex Bregman backs? Could
- 1:10Speaker 1: someone like Boba Schett be on the menu. There's a
- 1:13Speaker 1: lot of different ways you could have gone. And we
- 1:14Speaker 1: were here for a little bit last night. I was
- 1:16Speaker 1: kind of thinking through things. I've had a little bit
- 1:18Speaker 1: of time to digest everything, kind of simplify my thoughts,
- 1:23Speaker 1: and I'm gonna go over those thoughts here in tonight's episode.
- 1:27Speaker 1: A lot of familiar faces here in the chat. Thank
- 1:29Speaker 1: you everybody for coming on by. Hope you're all having
- 1:31Speaker 1: a great day. What is today? Today's Monday. Hope you're
- 1:34Speaker 1: all having a great Monday. So, yeah, we've got Christmas
- 1:36Speaker 1: in a few days. I mean, that's how chaotic it's been.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm looking at the date and I don't even realize
- 1:44Speaker 1: it's Christmas in a few days. My goodness. I gotta
- 1:46Speaker 1: go finish up some shopping. Hope you're all doing well
- 1:49Speaker 1: with your Christmas shopping. But let's get to it here.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I'm rambling. We got a lot to talk about. So
- 1:55Speaker 1: Wilson Contreras is official. He is official. I mean take
- 1:59Speaker 1: a look at that. I mean take a look at that.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I mean, listen, Wilson concraras. He's a handsome man, but
- 2:04Speaker 1: he looks even more handsome in a Red Sox uniform,
- 2:07Speaker 1: I must say. But going over this yet again, I'm
- 2:11Speaker 1: a big fan of it. Wilson was one of the
- 2:14Speaker 1: players I would have liked the Red Sox to add
- 2:17Speaker 1: of course, you know, you're looking at guys like Brek
- 2:20Speaker 1: been out there, Ka tell Marte, Boba, Schet and with Contreras,
- 2:23Speaker 1: I think he's an above average bat. I think he's
- 2:25Speaker 1: a solid guy to have in the lineup, a guy
- 2:27Speaker 1: that's gonna give you I think around twenty to twenty
- 2:29Speaker 1: five home runs. He's gonna get on base. I think
- 2:31Speaker 1: he's gonna attack that green monster. I think he's gonna
- 2:34Speaker 1: be a really nice bat to have in the lineup.
- 2:37Speaker 1: And with Contreras, he's gonna give you good defense, ave
- 2:40Speaker 1: first base. So I think it was a really nice
- 2:42Speaker 1: player to add for the Red Sox. Also just the
- 2:45Speaker 1: mentality that he brings. This guy's a competitor. He wants
- 2:47Speaker 1: to go out there and win. Big fan of Wilson Contreras,
- 2:50Speaker 1: I've always been pretty high on him, but I never
- 2:53Speaker 1: really viewed him as the you know, that big old
- 2:57Speaker 1: monster in the middle of the order like Manny ramire
- 3:00Speaker 1: Is or David Ortiz or Raffie Devers or Mookie Right
- 3:03Speaker 1: or JD. Martinez. Even just a solid guy there to have.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Very happy with it, but the question is who is
- 3:11Speaker 1: going to be the next bat? And you know, I
- 3:15Speaker 1: thought about it more. I thought about it more, you know,
- 3:17Speaker 1: getting back to you know, all that power. You know
- 3:22Speaker 1: you're thinking of, like, Okay, who's going to be this
- 3:25Speaker 1: middle of the order bat for the Red Sox. Well,
- 3:28Speaker 1: I thought about it here today. I'm like, well, you know,
- 3:30Speaker 1: there's really only one guy you can realistically go after
- 3:34Speaker 1: at this point. Who knows if it's even still a
- 3:36Speaker 1: realistic but you're looking at someone like a tel Marte
- 3:38Speaker 1: who he gives you the best shot of giving you
- 3:41Speaker 1: anywhere from thirty to thirty five home runs, maybe even
- 3:44Speaker 1: a little bit more than that. But I thought to myself,
- 3:47Speaker 1: you know, if he's really the only guy that gives
- 3:50Speaker 1: you that sure thing, and you're not able to acquire him,
- 3:54Speaker 1: that are not able to come up with some kind
- 3:56Speaker 1: of a trade, well then where are you going to
- 3:58Speaker 1: get that back? We're gonna get those home runs from?
- 4:00Speaker 1: And you know, I kind of thought about it. I'm like,
- 4:01Speaker 1: you know what, maybe they stretch out this lineup as
- 4:05Speaker 1: much as possible. Maybe you don't necessarily need to have
- 4:10Speaker 1: that Masher right, that forty home run kind of a guy.
- 4:13Speaker 1: And listen, you might be thinking, oh, Robbie's coping. I mean,
- 4:16Speaker 1: Robbie's on his cope fest here, no, no, no, no,
- 4:18Speaker 1: necessarily hear me out here, hear me out If you
- 4:21Speaker 1: think about it, right, you got guys that I think
- 4:24Speaker 1: are gonna have a bit of a bump when it
- 4:26Speaker 1: comes to the power. I think Roman Anthony, you're gonna
- 4:28Speaker 1: see a bit of a boost. There had eight home
- 4:30Speaker 1: runs last year. I think maybe around twenty ish twenty
- 4:34Speaker 1: five home runs maybe, I think that's a safe bet. Wait, Roman,
- 4:37Speaker 1: I'm looking at the all around impact that he's gonna bring.
- 4:40Speaker 1: He's gonna get on Bastrea, He's gonna hit for some
- 4:43Speaker 1: decent average and he'll give you a little pop as well.
- 4:46Speaker 1: A Roman Anthony impact player. I definitely think he's gonna
- 4:49Speaker 1: give you a little boost there in the home runs.
- 4:51Speaker 1: If you bring just for example, if you bring back
- 4:54Speaker 1: Alex Bragman, I think that's if healthy for the full season,
- 4:57Speaker 1: I think safe bet. Twenty to twenty five home runs
- 5:00Speaker 1: Marcella Meyer, if he's in the lineup every day, if healthy,
- 5:03Speaker 1: that is a big if. Well, then I think you
- 5:05Speaker 1: see a boost in home runs from him as well.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Will you or Bray you, I mean, listen, this guy
- 5:10Speaker 1: was on pace for twenty five to thirty home runs,
- 5:12Speaker 1: and then he got hurt. And we'll talk about Willier
- 5:14Speaker 1: in a little bit. Looks like maybe he could be
- 5:17Speaker 1: getting some more chances at everyday opportunities to go up
- 5:21Speaker 1: against left handed pitching. But I think with Willier, with
- 5:23Speaker 1: the power that he has, I think you could see
- 5:26Speaker 1: somewhere from twenty five to thirty home runs. I don't
- 5:29Speaker 1: see why not. And then Tristan Costas I did mention
- 5:32Speaker 1: him a lot here last night because I'm thinking, where's
- 5:36Speaker 1: that power coming from? Well, Cossas is really that big
- 5:39Speaker 1: old bopper there, and you know, if he comes back,
- 5:42Speaker 1: you know, at some point, I'm not gonna, you know,
- 5:46Speaker 1: make any solid bets that he's gonna give you, you know,
- 5:49Speaker 1: thirty home runs, but you know, maybe you could tap
- 5:53Speaker 1: if he gets himself back on track, maybe can tap
- 5:55Speaker 1: into something there. And then I kind of did some
- 5:57Speaker 1: math somehow, someway, my potent o'braen actually did some math.
- 6:02Speaker 1: RAFFI if you take out the fifteen home runs that
- 6:05Speaker 1: he hit for the Red Sox last year, and you
- 6:07Speaker 1: add up all these other home runs that are coming
- 6:09Speaker 1: from all these different places, well, the Red Sox, they
- 6:12Speaker 1: would have been top ten in home runs this past year.
- 6:15Speaker 1: So again, do you necessarily need to have it coming
- 6:18Speaker 1: from one spot. I think you would like that. I
- 6:20Speaker 1: think we would love David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez, right,
- 6:23Speaker 1: Jad Martinez, Muki whatever, RAFFI. But maybe you could spread
- 6:29Speaker 1: this out, Maybe you could deepen this lineup. I mean, listen,
- 6:31Speaker 1: let me go over this line up here for you.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Let me go over this lineup again. This is subject
- 6:36Speaker 1: to change. I know a lot of things can still
- 6:39Speaker 1: happen here. It's not even Christmas. But let's say you
- 6:41Speaker 1: had Roman leading off. Let's say you brought back Bregman.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Let's say you still keep Duran He's batting third, Contreras
- 6:48Speaker 1: batting fourth, Story batting fifth, Will You're batting sixth, Nervaias
- 6:51Speaker 1: batting seventh, Marcella Meyer batting eighth, SETI batting ninth. I
- 6:55Speaker 1: don't know what happens to Masa. There's a lot of
- 6:57Speaker 1: what is I know a lot of people you're gonna
- 6:59Speaker 1: go in the comments and be like, oh, Robbie, what
- 7:00Speaker 1: about this? And I just listen to the lineup. I
- 7:03Speaker 1: just said, you know, that's a pretty deep lineup. The
- 7:05Speaker 1: fact that you'd have Will You're batting six nervias batting seventh.
- 7:08Speaker 1: I mean, that's pretty decent if you ask me again, No,
- 7:11Speaker 1: you don't got that forty to fifty home run kind
- 7:13Speaker 1: of a guy like Schwarburg or Alonso. But you got
- 7:16Speaker 1: a lot of like there. And that's a little difficult
- 7:18Speaker 1: to navigate if you ask me. And I'd like it,
- 7:25Speaker 1: but there's a lot of question marks and we do
- 7:28Speaker 1: have to take a look. We do have to take
- 7:30Speaker 1: a look at Craig Breslo's comments. He actually spoke to
- 7:36Speaker 1: the media. Spoke to the media. Can you believe it.
- 7:39Speaker 1: He spoke to the media. And let's get to it here.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I'm actually gonna use Chris Catillo. Please go follow Chris
- 7:47Speaker 1: Catillo if you're not already, I'm sure most of you are.
- 7:50Speaker 1: But he put most of the important quotes. Thank you
- 7:54Speaker 1: Chris for putting these out there. I owe you one,
- 7:57Speaker 1: my friend. But taking a look at some of these
- 8:00Speaker 1: comments talked about Wilson, Contreras primarily sees Wilson at first base,
- 8:07Speaker 1: maybe some DH opportunities, while not fully ruling out catching
- 8:11Speaker 1: reps but not promising them by any means. This is
- 8:15Speaker 1: kind of what I was saying last night. I think
- 8:16Speaker 1: You're mostly going to see him at first base. He's
- 8:18Speaker 1: got that great defense over there, taking a look at
- 8:22Speaker 1: the stat cast page, very good range over at first
- 8:25Speaker 1: base this year. He's got that arm strength. He's a
- 8:27Speaker 1: very good first baseman, and he took to it very
- 8:30Speaker 1: well in his first year. He has that good athleticism.
- 8:33Speaker 1: There were a couple of issues when it came to
- 8:35Speaker 1: Contreras when you know, the a couple of the little things, right,
- 8:39Speaker 1: you know, some of the game calling, you know, the framing.
- 8:42Speaker 1: But Wilson he always had a good arm and he
- 8:44Speaker 1: moved well back there. So he's a really nice fit
- 8:47Speaker 1: over at first base. So yeah, you're mostly gonna see
- 8:49Speaker 1: him at first base DH some days. You know, especially
- 8:52Speaker 1: if Cossas ends up coming back, I could definitely see
- 8:55Speaker 1: them mixing and matching. Korra likes to do that with
- 8:58Speaker 1: the lineups, and you know what, do I see him
- 9:00Speaker 1: catching at some point? Well? I think this is also
- 9:03Speaker 1: pretty strategic because you know, Narvaias he was running into
- 9:06Speaker 1: a couple of things. He was getting dinged up this
- 9:08Speaker 1: year long. I mean that bat basically disappeared in the
- 9:11Speaker 1: first half. He was dealing with some things this past year.
- 9:14Speaker 1: We found out later on. So who knows, maybe you
- 9:16Speaker 1: could have an opportunity where Wilson you maybe need him
- 9:19Speaker 1: behind the place. So I think he's nice to have
- 9:21Speaker 1: in that essence, right. He talked about Tristan Cosis here,
- 9:25Speaker 1: and I'm glad he said something about Tristan Cossus because
- 9:29Speaker 1: I was looking back at the stream from last night
- 9:32Speaker 1: and I think I'm thinking to myself today, Man, did
- 9:35Speaker 1: I get a little ahead of myself, you know, banking
- 9:37Speaker 1: on Cassus or banking on you know, maybe what the
- 9:41Speaker 1: front office felt about Cassus, you know, because you don't
- 9:44Speaker 1: really know what's gonna happen there. He's coming back from
- 9:47Speaker 1: a major injury, so I don't know. But he did
- 9:50Speaker 1: say here, he did speak a lot of confidence of
- 9:53Speaker 1: causes say, we still have a ton of confidence and
- 9:56Speaker 1: belief in Tristan. There's going to be an opportunity for
- 9:59Speaker 1: him to impact as for us. And you know, say
- 10:01Speaker 1: what he will about Cassus. I know he's been polarizing
- 10:04Speaker 1: with you know, just his ca You know, he likes
- 10:09Speaker 1: to have fun out there, he likes to speak his mind.
- 10:11Speaker 1: He's a he's a free spirit out there. Listen. I'm
- 10:15Speaker 1: all I'm Okay, with whatever the heck you do. But
- 10:18Speaker 1: if you're hitting some dingers that that's that's gonna be great.
- 10:21Speaker 1: So with Casas, he has shown that ability in the past,
- 10:24Speaker 1: he has shown that power upside. Did struggle before going
- 10:28Speaker 1: down with that injury, but with Casas, we know that
- 10:31Speaker 1: power's there. But I like this bringing in Wilson because
- 10:34Speaker 1: you can just ease Cassas back in. That's what I've
- 10:37Speaker 1: been talking about, and that's what I was talking about
- 10:39Speaker 1: even with Alonso, right if you brought him in, that
- 10:42Speaker 1: would be nice for Casus because there's no pressure on
- 10:46Speaker 1: him to come back. He can just come back at
- 10:48Speaker 1: his own pace. So same thing here with Contreras, you're
- 10:51Speaker 1: set at first base. But with Costas coming back eventually,
- 10:55Speaker 1: I think you could see him as a guy that
- 10:58Speaker 1: ends up becoming your everyday d Ach May he plays
- 11:00Speaker 1: a little first base. I think that's very possible. Who
- 11:03Speaker 1: knows what happens with Masa at that point, but I
- 11:06Speaker 1: think Kasas has that ability to mostly be your DH
- 11:10Speaker 1: and give you that power upside if he can get
- 11:12Speaker 1: back to what he was doing. But I like this
- 11:14Speaker 1: because it really brings down the pressure with him. He
- 11:18Speaker 1: can come back when he feels like he is, when
- 11:21Speaker 1: they feel like he's good to go. Now, moving on
- 11:23Speaker 1: to the juicy stuff here, let's talk about the juicy stuff. Well,
- 11:27Speaker 1: Craig goes on to say, we recognize that at this
- 11:31Speaker 1: point the roster is probably incomplete, adds that adding another
- 11:36Speaker 1: bat is a target and a priority. Breslo says the
- 11:40Speaker 1: focus now is on position players, with pitching on the
- 11:44Speaker 1: back burner. He doesn't rule out further pitching additions, especially
- 11:47Speaker 1: in the bullpen, but it's clear another bat is what
- 11:50Speaker 1: they view as the final big piece. So again, you know,
- 11:55Speaker 1: getting back to what I was talking about, you know,
- 11:58Speaker 1: with the lineup, if that is the way you're going
- 12:01Speaker 1: to go, Like if you don't end up getting Marte,
- 12:03Speaker 1: let's say you bring back Bregman or Bow and you
- 12:05Speaker 1: go for that length. Right, I mean, either one of
- 12:08Speaker 1: those guys is gonna add length. But I'm more saying,
- 12:10Speaker 1: if you know, if you opt for Bregman or Bow,
- 12:13Speaker 1: you're probably looking at a little bit less pop compared
- 12:17Speaker 1: to someone like Marte. Right, if it's Bregman or Bau
- 12:21Speaker 1: not Marte, I still think you have a very strong
- 12:23Speaker 1: lineup and there's good potential. So the question is who
- 12:28Speaker 1: is that bat going to be? Well, I think plan A.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I mean you can you can decide what your Plan
- 12:36Speaker 1: A is, your Plan B, your Plan CE. I'm trying
- 12:39Speaker 1: to think in terms of the front office. Well. I
- 12:42Speaker 1: would like to think. Maybe this is wishful thinking, maybe
- 12:46Speaker 1: this is hopeful thinking, but I would like to think
- 12:49Speaker 1: that Bregman is the Plan A. Don't need to go
- 12:52Speaker 1: into it anymore. Great fit on off the field, you
- 12:56Speaker 1: know the drill. That's how it is. A Bregman fits
- 12:58Speaker 1: like a glove. My gut would like to think that
- 13:05Speaker 1: they will end up offering him a solid offer. Do
- 13:10Speaker 1: I think that's going to be the top offer? I
- 13:13Speaker 1: would bet money that they probably don't end up giving
- 13:16Speaker 1: him the biggest offer. I'd like to think that maybe
- 13:21Speaker 1: the Diamondbacks end up offering him more years, Maybe the
- 13:23Speaker 1: Cubs end up offering him maybe a higher AAV. Possibly,
- 13:29Speaker 1: I don't know. I think you could see teams have
- 13:32Speaker 1: better parts of an offer compared to the Red Sox.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I think some other teams could have more years. I
- 13:38Speaker 1: think maybe some teams could have a higher AAV. I
- 13:42Speaker 1: would like to think, and I hope the Red Sox
- 13:45Speaker 1: do give him a very strong offer that's going to
- 13:48Speaker 1: make it tough on his decision. You traded away Raffi,
- 13:54Speaker 1: you brought in Bregman. Well, you brought in Bregman first,
- 13:56Speaker 1: but then you ended up moving Raffi. That free up
- 14:00Speaker 1: the payroll, That opened up the opportunity to move that
- 14:04Speaker 1: money over to Bregman. I'd like to think that's the
- 14:07Speaker 1: way they're gonna go. I know, the Red Sox you
- 14:10Speaker 1: can say what you will when it comes to the spending.
- 14:12Speaker 1: And I know we've seen the reports saying they don't
- 14:16Speaker 1: really want to go very long on guys that are
- 14:18Speaker 1: over thirty. I mean, we'll see what ends up happening.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I would like to think the Red Sox at some
- 14:24Speaker 1: point come to their senses and say, all right, Alex,
- 14:29Speaker 1: five year offer, we can maybe throw in an option,
- 14:34Speaker 1: maybe even a four year deal with an option or
- 14:36Speaker 1: a couple of options, something around that. Maybe. I don't
- 14:40Speaker 1: think again they're going to offer him the most in
- 14:42Speaker 1: terms of flat years, but I think they will, I hope,
- 14:48Speaker 1: give him a strong offer that's definitely gonna make him contemplate.
- 14:52Speaker 1: And I would like to think, well, I don't want
- 14:55Speaker 1: to say I would like to think, but I think
- 14:57Speaker 1: that they're going to bank on the fact that he
- 14:59Speaker 1: did enjoy his time. I'm here, they enjoyed having him,
- 15:03Speaker 1: his wife liked it in Boston. They have a couple
- 15:05Speaker 1: of chos are and gives them an opportunity to, you know,
- 15:07Speaker 1: settle down. I'd like, I'm thinking they're gonna bank on that,
- 15:13Speaker 1: and they hope he ends up saying yes, that's kind
- 15:16Speaker 1: of where I'm at. But then I also have a
- 15:19Speaker 1: little pause with that, a little bit of pause. You
- 15:23Speaker 1: look at the CBT right now, looking at or the
- 15:27Speaker 1: current payroll for the Red Sox, looking at the current payroll, Well,
- 15:34Speaker 1: with hold on a second, I can't go further down.
- 15:40Speaker 1: I apologize, like, Okay, well, whatever the current payroll for
- 15:43Speaker 1: the Red Sox is at two forty three. If you
- 15:48Speaker 1: add Bregman, I'm gonna get roughly aav right around thirty million.
- 15:53Speaker 1: You're depending on the deferred money. If you do that,
- 15:56Speaker 1: and you know, however that works out, you're probably gonna
- 16:00Speaker 1: be around that two seventy mark, and you're gonna be
- 16:03Speaker 1: over the second CBT. I wonder if what the Red
- 16:08Speaker 1: Sox think about that, that that also applies to Bobachett.
- 16:11Speaker 1: You're probably gonna be giving anywhere from I think twenty
- 16:14Speaker 1: five twenty eight million for Boba Schett. You're gonna be
- 16:18Speaker 1: either one of those guys. You're gonna be around that
- 16:19Speaker 1: second CBT probably over it. So that's where I do
- 16:23Speaker 1: have a little bit of pause again, wishful thinking maybe
- 16:27Speaker 1: that they end up giving him a strong offer that's
- 16:29Speaker 1: gonna be tough for him to decide on. But I
- 16:32Speaker 1: wonder if they do go that far, I don't know.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I really don't know what they're gonna do. I'm not sure.
- 16:38Speaker 1: That's kind of where I'm at with Bragman, and I
- 16:40Speaker 1: think in the end they're going to wait on his
- 16:43Speaker 1: decision or because it's it's tough, because you could say, well,
- 16:50Speaker 1: why not just pivot to Marte right now? Why not
- 16:53Speaker 1: just pivot to bo Well, maybe the Diamondbacks want to
- 16:56Speaker 1: wait on a Catel Marte deal because they're in the
- 16:59Speaker 1: race for Bregman. They would like to bring him in.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I would imagine they would like to have him first
- 17:04Speaker 1: before moving Marte. That's kind of the way I think
- 17:07Speaker 1: because there are some payroll things going on. There's been
- 17:09Speaker 1: some question marks, so the d bacs payroll, so I mean,
- 17:12Speaker 1: I don't think they're gonna trade Marte and then and
- 17:14Speaker 1: then all of a sudden Bregman ends up leaving that's
- 17:17Speaker 1: the way, or he ends up going elsewhere, so then
- 17:19Speaker 1: they'd be completely out of everything, right. I mean, of
- 17:22Speaker 1: course the d Backs could you know, trade Marte get
- 17:24Speaker 1: young talent back, but I think they would like to
- 17:26Speaker 1: have a solid player like Bregman in place, and then
- 17:29Speaker 1: you could move Marte. Right, So I think the d
- 17:32Speaker 1: Bacs wait there before they make a decision on Marte.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I could be wrong, and Bo, you know, maybe he
- 17:38Speaker 1: wants to wait for Bregman to come off the board
- 17:40Speaker 1: because the Red Sox are involved, So I'm not sure
- 17:44Speaker 1: how that goes. I think there's a bit of a
- 17:47Speaker 1: connection between all three. And but because the Red Sox
- 17:50Speaker 1: have the familiarity with Bregman, I think they would like
- 17:53Speaker 1: to see what he ends up doing. It's kind of
- 17:55Speaker 1: where I'm at. Another think with Bregman too. I mean, listen,
- 17:58Speaker 1: I don't mean to be that guy, but he changed
- 18:00Speaker 1: his Instagram picture. Ladies and gentlemen, there is something there
- 18:04Speaker 1: that do you see that's a bee? That's a b
- 18:07Speaker 1: on that hat. I'm just saying, I know he's with
- 18:11Speaker 1: his wonderful son at the All Star Game. But that
- 18:15Speaker 1: is a bee on the hat, just pointing it out.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Maybe that could be a sign. I don't know. I'm
- 18:21Speaker 1: not gonna go too deep into it. It is there though,
- 18:25Speaker 1: in case you like that stuff. But again, that's the
- 18:29Speaker 1: way I'm thinking. I could be completely wrong and all
- 18:32Speaker 1: of that, but I feel like the Red Sox is
- 18:33Speaker 1: gonna wait on Bregman. If Bregman ends up going elsewhere,
- 18:37Speaker 1: if he decides something else, well, I think you pivot
- 18:40Speaker 1: to Marte. Let's say he goes to the Diamond Back. Well,
- 18:43Speaker 1: I think there's a big caveat to that. If Bregman
- 18:46Speaker 1: goes to Arizona, that's when I would like to think
- 18:49Speaker 1: there's a better chance they move Marte. At that point,
- 18:52Speaker 1: you could keep both for sure, but if there are
- 18:56Speaker 1: you know, if they do want to lessen up that
- 18:58Speaker 1: payroll a little bit, use Martes's value his trade value
- 19:01Speaker 1: to go get some pitching, which they need, well, then
- 19:04Speaker 1: I can see that scenario. So if Bregman goes to Arizona,
- 19:08Speaker 1: I think that could open up the possibility for Marte.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Really reminds me of Garrett Crochet last year. They missed
- 19:14Speaker 1: out on freed, they pivoted to the White Sox. They
- 19:16Speaker 1: went and got Crochet the next day. So I wonder
- 19:18Speaker 1: if you could see a similar situation like that. I'm
- 19:22Speaker 1: not sure I will say, though, I will say, got
- 19:27Speaker 1: some birdies out there, got some birdies. I've been told
- 19:31Speaker 1: that there is a bit of a disconnect when it
- 19:35Speaker 1: comes to the talks. I heard good news around the
- 19:37Speaker 1: winter meetings. I was hearing some good things, had some
- 19:41Speaker 1: pushback as well from other sources. But lately I'm hearing
- 19:46Speaker 1: there is a bit of a disconnect between the Red
- 19:47Speaker 1: Sox and the d Backs when it comes to the talks,
- 19:49Speaker 1: and that could possibly tye into the Bob Nightingale story
- 19:53Speaker 1: that we saw where Nightingale said it's expected that the
- 19:56Speaker 1: Red Sox are going to end talks for Marte. So
- 20:00Speaker 1: unless something happens, someone wakes up differently, then you know,
- 20:04Speaker 1: maybe they can change their mind. But I'm wondering what's
- 20:07Speaker 1: happening there. I'm not so sure. I do think the
- 20:11Speaker 1: Red Sox have the pieces to get a deal done
- 20:13Speaker 1: if they chose to. Who knows what the disconnect is,
- 20:17Speaker 1: who knows what's going on with those talks. Who knows
- 20:21Speaker 1: if it's maybe the Red Sox not wanting to give
- 20:24Speaker 1: up guys. Do the Diamondbacks view the Red Sox as
- 20:28Speaker 1: not a great trade partner? I would like to think
- 20:30Speaker 1: the former. I would like to think the Red Sox
- 20:32Speaker 1: are holding tight onto guys Breslo, that he is a
- 20:34Speaker 1: stubborn man. He is the word that's been thrown around,
- 20:39Speaker 1: a stiff, that is the word that people like to say.
- 20:43Speaker 1: But I could see him being very tight on those prospects,
- 20:47Speaker 1: especially guys like Connolly, Early and Peyton Toley. So maybe
- 20:51Speaker 1: the d Backs are thinking, all right, if you're not
- 20:52Speaker 1: going to give up one of those guys or say
- 20:55Speaker 1: Marcelo Meyer, well then probably not gonna have a deal.
- 20:58Speaker 1: So I don't know, I'm not sure what the hold
- 21:00Speaker 1: up is there, but you do I think you do
- 21:04Speaker 1: have the pieces to get a deal done. Now. If
- 21:06Speaker 1: Marte doesn't work out, well, then I think Bobachett makes
- 21:12Speaker 1: a ton of sense. And if you were looking at
- 21:14Speaker 1: that report with the Red Sox and not too keen
- 21:16Speaker 1: on the longer term deals, well, difference with Bashett is
- 21:20Speaker 1: he's only just about to turn twenty eight years old.
- 21:23Speaker 1: He's a couple of years under thirty, so he's got
- 21:25Speaker 1: that going for him. Maybe that's something the Red Sox prefer.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Get back to the payroll again, that would put them
- 21:31Speaker 1: over that second CBT most likely if they brought him in.
- 21:34Speaker 1: I think you could even see a scenario where maybe
- 21:36Speaker 1: maybe you even swap Bo and Marte when it comes
- 21:40Speaker 1: to plan B Plan C. Maybe you know, people think,
- 21:42Speaker 1: all right, let's just I could even see people. I
- 21:46Speaker 1: can see people even thinking Bobachett should be planned a listen, chocolate, vanilla, strawberry,
- 21:52Speaker 1: whatever you want. They're all good. Well, I'll throw cookies
- 21:56Speaker 1: and cream into the mix. I'm a big cookies and
- 21:57Speaker 1: cream guy. Maybe cookie dough too, you know, I don't know,
- 22:02Speaker 1: so I think one of these three guys makes sense.
- 22:07Speaker 1: The one thing with Bashett that you got to think
- 22:09Speaker 1: about is you would have to give up a draft pick,
- 22:11Speaker 1: you would have I think you also have to give
- 22:13Speaker 1: up international signing money because he's attacked with the qualifying offer,
- 22:17Speaker 1: so that does come into play. So I could also
- 22:19Speaker 1: see where maybe the Red Sox think, okay, well, for Marte,
- 22:24Speaker 1: we'd have to give up a guy like Totally or Early,
- 22:27Speaker 1: maybe even Brian Beao, maybe Marcelo Meyer one of those guys.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Maybe the Red Sox would rather hang on to those
- 22:33Speaker 1: prospects and think, okay, well with Bo, yes we have
- 22:36Speaker 1: to give up a draft pick, international signing money, but
- 22:40Speaker 1: I would think, I mean, I think they would. That's
- 22:43Speaker 1: why I go back to Bregman. I think he's the
- 22:46Speaker 1: sure thing, you know, because you don't have to give
- 22:48Speaker 1: up anything except money, You don't have to give up talent,
- 22:51Speaker 1: you don't to give up draft picks, whatever. So that's
- 22:53Speaker 1: why another thing, I think Bregman just checks off so
- 22:56Speaker 1: many boxes along with all the boxes he already checks off.
- 23:00Speaker 1: But with Bo, compared to Marte, Now what would you
- 23:03Speaker 1: rather give up? Would you rather give up totally and
- 23:05Speaker 1: earlier totally or early with other guys, or give up
- 23:08Speaker 1: a draft pick. So that's kind of where I could
- 23:10Speaker 1: see Boushett maybe having an advantage there. He slides into
- 23:15Speaker 1: second base, Myer moves over to third. Now we also
- 23:18Speaker 1: had this, we got a little something from Ken Rosenthal
- 23:22Speaker 1: as long as along with Will Salmon the Cardinals on
- 23:25Speaker 1: the Red Sox also have discussed a trade that would
- 23:29Speaker 1: send Brendan Donovan to Boston. Listen, are we gonna be
- 23:32Speaker 1: the Boston Cardinals? Is it gonna be the Saint Louis
- 23:35Speaker 1: Red Sox. Listen, the Red Sox broke up with him,
- 23:39Speaker 1: but it seems like they're thinking, Man, we love we
- 23:43Speaker 1: missed talking to him. We got to talk to him
- 23:45Speaker 1: more often. Man, oh man, they just can't seem to
- 23:47Speaker 1: get away from him. I don't know what's going on,
- 23:50Speaker 1: but the Red Sox and the Cardinals, they are wheeling
- 23:52Speaker 1: and dealing. I don't know, Craig breslo Heim Bloom, they're
- 23:56Speaker 1: becoming best friends, like, you know, like step brothers. All right,
- 24:00Speaker 1: the bunk beds man. No man, Donovan likely would play
- 24:06Speaker 1: second base of the Red Sox, who have also been
- 24:08Speaker 1: linked to Catel Marte. No deal is close, but Donovan
- 24:11Speaker 1: almost certainly would bring a greater return than Gray or Contraris. Well, yes,
- 24:15Speaker 1: he absolutely would. Let's go take a look here. Well
- 24:19Speaker 1: that is really zoomed in goodness gracious, But for Donovan,
- 24:25Speaker 1: I also listened a whole bunch of trade candidates here
- 24:28Speaker 1: for you know what, it would guys that you could
- 24:31Speaker 1: include in a package for Marte. No, I'm not saying
- 24:34Speaker 1: all of these guys, but you could definitely work in
- 24:37Speaker 1: you know, a couple of these guys, I think along
- 24:39Speaker 1: with other pieces. But uh, let's do you know what
- 24:42Speaker 1: is Cardinal or what is Donovan's trade value? It's pretty good. Listen.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Donovan's a good player. He is a very good player,
- 24:54Speaker 1: thirty two dollars worth of trade value surplus trade value.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Why because he's not really making a whole ton of
- 25:02Speaker 1: money and he's gonna give you good production. I saw
- 25:05Speaker 1: someone today, I don't know where I saw this. My goodness,
- 25:09Speaker 1: I had to bite my tongue a little bit. I
- 25:12Speaker 1: saw someone. What is Donovan gonna give you? What more
- 25:16Speaker 1: is he gonna give you instead of Romy and David Hamilton?
- 25:22Speaker 1: Oh man, oh man. Of course, Donovan's gonna give you
- 25:26Speaker 1: more production overall than Romy and David Hamilton. Listen. I
- 25:30Speaker 1: love Romy, I love Romy, don't get me wrong. But
- 25:33Speaker 1: Donovan is one of the better hitters in the game.
- 25:35Speaker 1: He was right around the three wins above replacement last year.
- 25:38Speaker 1: He was really good, guys, one of the top contact
- 25:41Speaker 1: hitters in the game. He's a dirt dog kind of
- 25:43Speaker 1: a player. He could play multiple positions, pretty good defense
- 25:45Speaker 1: as well. I would love to have someone like Donovan
- 25:48Speaker 1: if he's not my first option, but he's He's definitely there.
- 25:53Speaker 1: If they ended up getting Donovan, I'd be pretty happy
- 25:55Speaker 1: with that. Of course, now that you know, there's not
- 25:57Speaker 1: a whole lot of pop with him, more contact and
- 26:01Speaker 1: not really going to strike out, So you would definitely
- 26:03Speaker 1: have to try and find some power there. But I
- 26:07Speaker 1: like Donovan a lot. I couldn't believe someone I don't know, man,
- 26:09Speaker 1: I couldn't believe someone said that. But it would cost
- 26:13Speaker 1: a lot to get Donovan. I would imagine if you're
- 26:18Speaker 1: the Red Sox here, I mean him would definitely he
- 26:22Speaker 1: would have a lot more to work with on what
- 26:25Speaker 1: he could get back compared to Sonny Gray and Wilson Contreras.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I mean you've given up more of a depth I
- 26:31Speaker 1: wanna say depth prospect, but a decent prospect in Brandon
- 26:35Speaker 1: Clark with good stuff. Hunter Dobbins more of a depth starter.
- 26:39Speaker 1: But someone would upside for the Cardinals. But you would
- 26:42Speaker 1: definitely get better than that, I'll be honest, like, I'd
- 26:44Speaker 1: imagine probably someone like franklin Arius would make some sense
- 26:48Speaker 1: because they're getting an infielder back, So I think you
- 26:51Speaker 1: could do something like him and then maybe you know,
- 26:56Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean I would imagine maybe want
- 26:59Speaker 1: to go for a bit more volume. Could you send
- 27:02Speaker 1: back like like Marcus Phillips, you know a couple of
- 27:05Speaker 1: guys like that, Anthony Anson, you know, so you would
- 27:09Speaker 1: definitely get a decent amount. I would like to think
- 27:12Speaker 1: Franklin Arius would be a part of that kind of
- 27:14Speaker 1: a trade. That's just me, But I'm a big fan
- 27:16Speaker 1: of Brandon Donovan. I really like his game hit two
- 27:19Speaker 1: eighty seven last year, three fifty three on bas four
- 27:21Speaker 1: twenty two on the slugging ten homers. Again, he's not
- 27:24Speaker 1: gonna be, you know, batting third or fourth, but a
- 27:26Speaker 1: guy that could bat lead off for you, a guy
- 27:29Speaker 1: that he could bat second to mean Gebaut anywhere, he's
- 27:33Speaker 1: gonna get the bat on the ball. I know lu
- 27:34Speaker 1: Marloni would love to have someone like Donovan, so something
- 27:40Speaker 1: to think about. I do think he's lower on the
- 27:42Speaker 1: totem pole, but he's there. I think what I what
- 27:46Speaker 1: I will say about Craig, what I've noticed about him
- 27:52Speaker 1: over the last couple of years. He really sets himself
- 27:56Speaker 1: up for a lot of possibilities. Right. I think he's
- 28:00Speaker 1: still needs to work on that decisiveness. He has shown it,
- 28:05Speaker 1: but there's times where he gets just very uptight, right,
- 28:08Speaker 1: at least that's what I think, at least from the outside.
- 28:13Speaker 1: I don't know where it seems maybe he likes to
- 28:15Speaker 1: hang on to guys a little too much, right. You
- 28:17Speaker 1: did see it at the deadline, you know, he ended
- 28:20Speaker 1: up getting dustin May where that you know, kind of
- 28:22Speaker 1: didn't really help all that much. I mean again, I've
- 28:26Speaker 1: been hearing it here with Marte, so he's definitely hugging
- 28:30Speaker 1: a little bit on the prospects. So but I will
- 28:34Speaker 1: say he does lay out a lot of opportunities. Now.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Speaking of speaking of opportunities, well, I mean, ladies and gentlemen,
- 28:42Speaker 1: we got something else cooking. In the same article, on
- 28:46Speaker 1: another front, a rival executive said Monday, the Red Sox
- 28:51Speaker 1: have quietly shocked Brian Bayo, a characterization. A person briefed
- 28:57Speaker 1: on Boston's conversations disputed. That person, however, said Beo's name
- 29:04Speaker 1: often surfaces when teams ask about the Red Sox young pitching.
- 29:09Speaker 1: I mean, listen, I said this how long ago. I
- 29:12Speaker 1: tweeted this out about a month ago. I'm saying to myself,
- 29:15Speaker 1: I mean, listen, Bao, he was solid last year, but
- 29:19Speaker 1: when you look at the mextrics and what the Red
- 29:23Speaker 1: Sox like to do. They want more swing and miss.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Look at what they did with Richard Fitz Hunter Dobbins,
- 29:36Speaker 1: two major league starters. Those guys weren't getting a whole
- 29:38Speaker 1: lot of swing and miss. Same thing with Brian Bayo
- 29:42Speaker 1: thirteenth percentile with the WIF percentage. Now, I like Bao
- 29:46Speaker 1: a lot. I'm a big fan. But if the Red
- 29:52Speaker 1: Sox were looking for a possible upgrade in the rotation
- 29:56Speaker 1: for someone like Cole Reagan's, could you pop pssibly use
- 30:01Speaker 1: Bao in that kind of a deal or for I'm
- 30:06Speaker 1: sorry keep bringing up Marte, but could he be a
- 30:08Speaker 1: guy that you send back in a Catel Marte trade
- 30:13Speaker 1: where they need pitching over there, and he's on a
- 30:15Speaker 1: very friendly contract, he's still under twenty seven years old.
- 30:19Speaker 1: So that's where I think someone like Bao with what
- 30:23Speaker 1: the Red Sox are trying to achieve, you know, when
- 30:28Speaker 1: it comes to the pitching side of things, They're they've
- 30:30Speaker 1: really revamped things over there. I mean, honestly, could you
- 30:33Speaker 1: even see something where, you know, even for Donovan Right,
- 30:38Speaker 1: I mean, could you even do something with Beao in
- 30:41Speaker 1: a package for Donovan Right? I mean, I think you're
- 30:44Speaker 1: getting pretty close in values there. With Donovan only is
- 30:48Speaker 1: a couple more years of control. But Bao with the projections,
- 30:53Speaker 1: because he lacks that swing and miss, he's uh, he's
- 30:57Speaker 1: not going to have as high as projections. So it's
- 31:02Speaker 1: an interesting possibility with him obviously, you know, he was
- 31:06Speaker 1: here when Bao was coming through. You wonder if maybe
- 31:09Speaker 1: that could be something just floating out ideas there probably
- 31:14Speaker 1: not a good one anyway, but I want to be
- 31:17Speaker 1: surprised that Beao's being brought up in different talks. You know,
- 31:20Speaker 1: I said Cole Reagan's something with the Nationals. I don't know,
- 31:25Speaker 1: maybe some kind of a package for Gore or whatever.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Maybe do a three team trade and Bao goes elsewhere
- 31:34Speaker 1: and then you bring in Gore or Reagan's or whatever,
- 31:38Speaker 1: or again Marte, three way trade for Marte. I don't know.
- 31:41Speaker 1: There's so many ideas, there's so many possibilities. But getting
- 31:45Speaker 1: back to it, I do think Bao is is a
- 31:49Speaker 1: possible trade candidate. And this is why I said it
- 31:52Speaker 1: about a month ago, because he's not fully fitting the
- 31:57Speaker 1: mold of what the Red Sox are going for. I like, baoh,
- 32:00Speaker 1: that's not a knock against him. It's more of what
- 32:02Speaker 1: the Red Sox think. But I wouldn't be surprised at
- 32:05Speaker 1: all the ends up staying because he is a guy
- 32:06Speaker 1: that he can give you good innings at the bottom
- 32:11Speaker 1: half of the rotation, you know, as you're three, four,
- 32:14Speaker 1: whatever it may be. So we'll see what ends up happening.
- 32:19Speaker 1: We'll see what ends up happening. But uh, before we
- 32:23Speaker 1: get to the last part of the show, everybody just
- 32:26Speaker 1: reminding you if you can just hit that like button
- 32:29Speaker 1: for me, and if you aren't new, if you are
- 32:31Speaker 1: just finding us for the first time, think about subscribing. Listen.
- 32:35Speaker 1: We're uh, we're trying to get to six k by
- 32:37Speaker 1: opening day. We're almost there. We're getting there. We've got
- 32:40Speaker 1: a few more subscribers over the last couple of days here,
- 32:43Speaker 1: so thank you for joining. If you aren't you, last
- 32:46Speaker 1: story of the night, last story of the Night, and uh, listen.
- 32:50Speaker 1: I was a little sad today. I was a little sad.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I can't believe it. I can't believe it. Rob Snyder,
- 33:00Speaker 1: my fellow Rob. I mean, why are the Red Sox
- 33:03Speaker 1: doing this to me? They shipped out my fellow Ginger
- 33:06Speaker 1: and now they're shipping out my fellow Rob. I mean,
- 33:09Speaker 1: I mean, goodness, great that they're killing me here. They're
- 33:13Speaker 1: dragging me across the Cols Rob Refsneiner going to the Mariners.
- 33:21Speaker 1: This opens up the possibility for Willier and Duran to
- 33:24Speaker 1: get more abs against left handed pitching. I'm pretty sad, though,
- 33:32Speaker 1: because I really like ref Snyder. He's been very good.
- 33:36Speaker 1: He's been so good for the Red Sox. I think,
- 33:39Speaker 1: honestly one of the more underrated players in the game.
- 33:43Speaker 1: He's one of those just very key role players. There's
- 33:47Speaker 1: been several over the years that have helped the Red
- 33:49Speaker 1: Sox win games. He was another one of them. A
- 33:52Speaker 1: guy that mashed Lefti's I mean, what a fun combination
- 33:54Speaker 1: that was last year with him and Romill right. Basher's right,
- 34:01Speaker 1: they're basically Mark Maguire Jose Canseco against lefties. He had
- 34:06Speaker 1: a very solid time of the Red Sox over the
- 34:08Speaker 1: four years at two seventy six, three sixty four on base,
- 34:11Speaker 1: a four p forty on the slugging, a one twenty
- 34:13Speaker 1: four WRC plus really good numbers, very good, good in
- 34:18Speaker 1: the clubhouse, you know, just a good presence there. Man,
- 34:23Speaker 1: I'm saying I understand it. I understand why the Red
- 34:26Speaker 1: Sox are thinking, Hey, you know what, we've had a
- 34:28Speaker 1: good run. We are going in a bit of a
- 34:30Speaker 1: different direction. If you want to get will your more
- 34:33Speaker 1: opportunities against left handed pitching, which I do think he
- 34:36Speaker 1: needs if you end up keeping Duran, I think he
- 34:39Speaker 1: needs to improve against left handed pitching. I think both
- 34:43Speaker 1: those guys need to and this is going to be
- 34:45Speaker 1: their shot. And I think this is what they're saying here,
- 34:49Speaker 1: all right, it's time to start letting these guys try
- 34:53Speaker 1: to take it to the next level, right Rob. I
- 34:55Speaker 1: don't think it's anything against Rob. I think they would
- 34:57Speaker 1: have liked to have had him, But I think the
- 35:00Speaker 1: just going in a different direction here. I very appreciative
- 35:03Speaker 1: if everything Rob did for the Red Sox over the
- 35:05Speaker 1: last four years, he was solid. So in the end,
- 35:10Speaker 1: I'm sad, no more Ginger, no more Rob. Sad day,
- 35:15Speaker 1: sad day. But everybody, I'm gonna wrap it up right there.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Very good show, very good showing from all of you
- 35:22Speaker 1: here tonight, A very good crowd here tonight, late here
- 35:26Speaker 1: on the East Coast, eleven fifteen, eleven fourteen pm. As
- 35:30Speaker 1: of right now, do apologize for starting a bit late tonight.
- 35:34Speaker 1: We had work going on here today. There was a
- 35:36Speaker 1: lot of stuff going on here today, But I mean
- 35:40Speaker 1: we got a couple of days here before Christmas. Craig,
- 35:43Speaker 1: he's busy, he's working those phones. Man. And also Robert Murray,
- 35:49Speaker 1: he did say here today. I believe on Foul Territory
- 35:54Speaker 1: that he wouldn't be surprised if one of Bregman, Bushett,
- 35:59Speaker 1: Cody Bellinger, one of those guys ended up signing before Christmas.
- 36:05Speaker 1: We'll see Bregman changed his picture. Is Bregman coming back?
- 36:13Speaker 1: Let's hope. So, let's hope. So I think we're almost
- 36:15Speaker 1: done here. If you could get Bregman before Christmas, or
- 36:20Speaker 1: figure it out for Marty or Borshett. If you could
- 36:22Speaker 1: figure that out over the next couple of days and
- 36:24Speaker 1: your team is pretty much ready to go, minus a
- 36:27Speaker 1: couple of little ads like something for the bullpen or
- 36:29Speaker 1: whatever it may be, I think you're in a good
- 36:33Speaker 1: spot at that point. That would be a nice Christmas.
- 36:36Speaker 1: We'll see what happens here everybody. Also, Mark, I forgot
- 36:39Speaker 1: to bring that up here with Nate eating too. Nate
- 36:41Speaker 1: Eaton does factor into the rest Snyder thing as well.
- 36:44Speaker 1: I think he showed a lot of good things last year,
- 36:47Speaker 1: a lot of athleticism, showed some good AB's last year.
- 36:51Speaker 1: And you still got Roami there too. You got a
- 36:55Speaker 1: couple of guys, so I forgot to mention that. Thank
- 36:57Speaker 1: you for bringing that up. But everybody, I'm at here,
- 37:00Speaker 1: thank you for coming out here tonight. If you kind
- 37:02Speaker 1: of the way out, all I ask please just hit
- 37:04Speaker 1: the like button. That's all I ever ask. That's all
- 37:06Speaker 1: I ever ask. And if you are new, think about
- 37:07Speaker 1: subscribing every step of good Night. Everybody. Talk to you
- 37:10Speaker 1: next time.
