Transcript
- 0:25Gay Ben from goat Zilly here and I've got p One, our guitarist and
- 0:31Mick one of our drummers who's coming with us on the Newcastle tour as well.
- 0:36And where we've just left Newcastle headed down to Sydney. We'll be playing
- 0:43Maitland on Saturday night and Elton Chong's in Penrith on the Sunday night. So
- 0:51this is all in aid of our new single which is dropping today on Friday
- 0:56the seventh, which is the title track from our album alien Nation, which
- 1:00is coming out in August. Beautiful Ben and friends, thanks for joining us.
- 1:06Great to be here. Thank Chris my pleasure mate. So we've got
- 1:10a fair bit to get through it tonight, mate, but we're going to
- 1:11start with the music. So today go Zilla a release in the audio for
- 1:15your new track Alienation, and then next Friday the fourteenth, we're going to
- 1:19be premier in the video by a heavy So how you feeling about the single
- 1:23drop? Mate? Really really pumped. This has been a long time coming.
- 1:30We've got to start this whole process during COVID and things are stretched and
- 1:34changed and it's taken a long time to get this stage, but it's been
- 1:38worth it. We've had Pete Jans and our other guitarist who isn't here with
- 1:44us just the moment, but he took on the job of mixing and mastering
- 1:49the whole thing and has done an absolutely phenomenal job. The songwriting where we're
- 1:56really happy with it is sounding great. It's it's a level up from Motherfucker's
- 2:01Tourist, which is our album from twenty nineteen, and the single is Yeah,
- 2:07the single is a lot of fun, so you'll get to hear it
- 2:12when it comes out. But yeah, very very excited. Beautiful Now I
- 2:16know, mate, because I've heard this song and it is an absolute fucking
- 2:20banger. But tell us a bit more about it musically and what are you
- 2:22going for. Well, the scene of the song was basically about our love
- 2:28about live music, because this is this is why we do it. This
- 2:30is why we do what we do. You do what you do. All
- 2:32the people who are watching this do what they do. Live music is a
- 2:36bar part of your life. And there's a lot of concern at the moment
- 2:43as to what's happening with the audsy live music scene. We've got festivals shutting
- 2:46down, we've got venues shutting down, but that's all due to economics.
- 2:51It's not due to the artist, is not due to the fans. It's
- 2:54still just as much passion as ever, if not more, for live music,
- 3:00quality live music and quality heavy heavy rocks. So it's basically a message
- 3:06that, look, we're part of an alien nation, we're part of one
- 3:09big, out there family that love the space that we're in and don't lose
- 3:16a vision of that. Yeah, kind of an old saying rock and roll
- 3:21will never die. A bit cheesy, but it's true. It is keep
- 3:24the pace people kind of live music will come back. We'll get through these
- 3:29tough times that the at that we've got at the moment. We'll have festivals
- 3:32back and hopefully thriving live venues as well. Very good man. Now that
- 3:38there's some massive roofs in this song made and it doesn't let up from starting
- 3:42to finish, so it's going to take it out. Are you playing a
- 3:44live bro? Did you think of that? That's well, when you get
- 3:50to hear the rest of the album, The rest of the album is pretty
- 3:53about that, about that pace. I think that's what's that. It's Alien
- 3:57Nations one ninety, isn't it me? Yes, that's one ninety most of
- 4:02the most of the most of the songs around that level are faster. So
- 4:09yeah, we're we're kind of used to it. It does, it does
- 4:12take it out of you, and we've we kind of collapse in puddles of
- 4:15sweat at the end set. But yeah, it's that's that's how we roll.
- 4:20It's it's all fairly fairly fast and furious. Were Now the video that
- 4:26we were talking about before is going to be premiered by a heavy on during
- 4:29the forty eight. Now I haven't seen it, so tell us what's the
- 4:31video about. Is it tie in with the theme or We're working with a
- 4:38young producers just finishing his his his screen studies Greek QT Phillip my name of
- 4:45Joe Curtis, and he's putting some he's putting a creative idea together at the
- 4:49moment for us. He shot a bunch of the stuff on in the studio
- 4:54on green screen and he's coming up with a bunch of special effects. So
- 4:59we're eating to see what what what what that's coming out? What that's going
- 5:03to be like. So that's going to be a bit of a surprise for
- 5:05us as well as you. But we're really we're really looking forward to that.
- 5:10Cool man. Now you mentioned that it's off the part of a bigger
- 5:13album picture, mate, So is it a good sonic representation of what to
- 5:16expect from the full album? Uh? It swings and berryes, there's some
- 5:20there's some funkyer tracks on there as well. This is a track. There
- 5:31are heavier tracks too. Is that with a bit of with a bit of
- 5:39melody to it? You'll you'll love this very good? You sent me had
- 5:45a photo labeled band on a moon with all the press stuff, mate,
- 5:47So is that tied in with the album? Like is it is it a
- 5:50conceptual sort of thing like that or is that just a bit of fun?
- 5:54Yeah? Well, the album the Alienations the title track from the album,
- 5:57so the album is called alien Nation, so we thought, okay, we'll
- 6:00go there and I yeah, my ladies, Dylan, my better half,
- 6:04our photographer put that together. So it's there's a there's a bit of a
- 6:10space and alien theme going going through the whole thing here. So that goes
- 6:15through the whole album? Does it not through the whole something? Most of
- 6:20the tracks here, there's kind of there's a bit of a there's a bit
- 6:24of a theme running yes. Nice. Now, for those not familiar with
- 6:28Godzilla, you're a punk thrash metal, hard rock band ow the Gold Coast
- 6:31Mate, but your bio says that you play punk, thrash and heavy metal
- 6:35with a cheeky twist on the nipples. Like I tried to picture that,
- 6:40but I could have, like, please explain. We look, we do
- 6:45this, we do this for fun. There's a lot there's a lot of
- 6:46serious music. We do a lot of a lot of heavy, heavy stuff,
- 6:50especially when you get into the hardcore bands that we we we we play
- 6:55with. There's there. It's really fall on and really serious music's a great
- 7:00way, especially heavy music. It's a great way to release aggression getting out
- 7:05there and getting into the pit, and we do that as well. But
- 7:09where we're kind of not so much on the aggression side of the things,
- 7:15where on the it's good to be a live side of things. And I
- 7:17love love live music and love rock and roll, so we we don't we
- 7:27take the music very seriously, but we're out there to have fun. We're
- 7:30kind of we're not there to scare anybody shitless or or or or burn the
- 7:35burn the city down, or anything like that. We're there to have a
- 7:38party. We're there to have a good time. And some of the songs
- 7:42that we do, we've got some we've retained the retained some themes from the
- 7:47earlier album Other Facts saw Its which we kind of went out on a bit
- 7:51of a limb with some of the lyrics and they have a bit of fun
- 7:57with them. But yeah, we're a good time rock band. We're there
- 8:01to celebrate tracking rock and roll and getting out there and partying in a live
- 8:07venue and with real people away from a TV screen, away from a computer
- 8:13screen, getting out there, living life and just having fun. Very good
- 8:16man. Now there's a big Modehead influence you can hear there, mate,
- 8:20But I love the fact that you embrace that rather than get the ships when
- 8:22people mention it. They are a big influence, but it's still done in
- 8:26your own way. If we if we can compared to Motorhead, that's one
- 8:31of the highest compliments. Been a Motorhead fan for for a long long time.
- 8:39So we're not trying to emulate them, We're not trying to sound like
- 8:41them. It just it just happens. It just comes out like that.
- 8:46Because we've got we've got a combination of some different songwriting influences coming over from
- 8:56the from the entire band. I mean, we've got I'm very seventies kind
- 9:01of orientated rock and punk. We've got p One is very much into a
- 9:09lot of the guitar virtuo like Steve Vai. We've got We've had a lot
- 9:15of influence from Mick Drummer, who's into a lot more of the Kevier contemporary
- 9:22acts and prog acts. And the same with Pete Jansen, who's Who's Who's
- 9:26got a focus on the more contemporary prog stuff. So we've got we've got
- 9:31that mixture of influences that kind of turns into what Goat Silver ends up putting
- 9:37out. Now you mentioned before me, but you're on the road at the
- 9:41moment for the national alien or a nation alien at all. But you played
- 9:45in Newcastle last night, you had into Sydney tonight on June sevent You've got
- 9:48Maitland tomorrow night and Penrith the night after. So tell us about the show
- 9:54is what can people expect. We're going to be running through all of the
- 9:58stuff off the new album, plus a bunch of tracks off the previous some
- 10:01of the favorites off the previous album. So drop there might be making appearance
- 10:07out of that, but it's basically going to be forty five minutes living north
- 10:13of one hundred and ninety beats a minute, searing guitar solos. We're really
- 10:20bloody lucky that we've got two awesome guitarists on board in the form of the
- 10:24two Peters, and they take turns in sharing solos. And so for anybody
- 10:31who is fans of the Big Face Milton guitar solo, definitely get down and
- 10:37check us out because you'll love what these guys do. And we've got we
- 10:43also actually have two drummers at the moment at the same time, not at
- 10:48the same time. We do play we do play with too. We've got
- 10:52we've got Mick Davies, who who did most of the subft's on the current
- 10:58album and his on for for this section of the tour, and he's got
- 11:03some amazing kit destroying antics here that he doesn't destroy the kit is he plays
- 11:11with a further like you wouldn't believe the other drama is who could make it
- 11:16on this tour, and he records another bunch of the tracks off the album.
- 11:20Thiago Castro from from Brazil has got a very Latin kind of influence.
- 11:26Also very heavy metal, I mean real heavy heavy metal, kind of different
- 11:37flavor with each of the shows. We've got Mick and Mick for these shows.
- 11:46And yeah, you love what he's hed, what he does. Well,
- 11:50Now, have you got any more shows to announceide for this made?
- 11:52Or are you going to keep that close to your chest. We've got we've
- 11:56got a bunch in the pipeline and will we'll be we'll be speaking about those
- 12:03we've got to We've got a fairly full calendar at the moment, right through
- 12:07until December, and they're going to be announced fairly shortly. Well. Now,
- 12:13the other big news we've got to announce for Gotzilla is it you recently
- 12:16signed with austrained label, X Music Made. I just want to say congratulations
- 12:20on that, because if there's any band I know that deserves a break,
- 12:24it's you, guys, man like, you're a hard working fucker and you've
- 12:26got good music. So congratulations. They look thank you very much. Now
- 12:31we're stoked. Tim from X Music has got a lot of years in the
- 12:37industry and has seen it morph and change over the over the last couple of
- 12:41decades, and to have a team of the caliber of X Music. I
- 12:46want to take us on and represent us and help get our music out there
- 12:50to the world. That we're absolutely stoked with that, of course. It's
- 12:54it's it isn't easy at the moment for bands to get music out there,
- 12:58and it's bite. Everybody's seen, Oh you've got the unitet, You've got
- 13:01streaming. It's just it's this fucking fire hose of stuff and I'm continually discovering
- 13:05new bands, but it's tough to try and keep on listening to them and
- 13:11to follow them. So to have someone to help break through that noise and
- 13:16provide a bit of focus for you and take some of the weight off the
- 13:22constant feel promotion that you've got to do as the band just to kind of
- 13:26stay out there, to stay on people's radar, it's no, it's it's
- 13:33fantastic. But we're really looking forward to working with X Music and seeing where
- 13:39that takes us on a musical journey. Fantastic. Ben Well, thanks very
- 13:43much for your time. Road been a pleasure. Alienation. The audio is
- 13:46out today, video comes out June fourteen next Friday. Goatzilla on the Road.
- 13:52At the moment, they've got shitloads of shows coming up. Where can
- 13:54people keep up to date with what's happening www dot Zilla Rock or if you
- 14:01get onto Facebook, it's got rock on Facebook. Jack that's got by said
- 14:31snake sense out taking love and rage and shout out. Lot of fun this
- 14:37day your souls about by its truss hoby some jayous lay. It's a lot
- 14:46of side show right. The boers like the side thing. It's the sky
- 14:50of by your showers butts, the burning and so they so it's the sweeping
- 14:56and chaste one thousand, what's ten minutes, it's all stay they find about
- 15:03they fit. Everything gets light away and that's where they get every one night
- 15:07side vacations in the ancient as sun five the next day. So try got
- 15:37that char destroyed the best Chris day times a plan to see a lighting on
- 15:45the wall and that not that chugs all we take stuff that I just found
- 15:50life got bes we done south that light. We found a rucksh all the
- 15:54loud that's my fust thing, not the ground. We don't they like they
- 16:02why it makes to me? I love chas
