• 2:39
Speaker 2: Good morning, how are you.
• 2:41
Speaker 8: I'm good morning. I'm good, Dave.
• 2:43
Speaker 7: I am doing fine. Hope you and your family had
• 2:45
Speaker 7: a happy holiday season.
• 2:48
Speaker 8: We did, We definitely did, and the kids are excited.
• 2:51
Speaker 8: They still have this whole week off of school. So
• 2:54
Speaker 8: my eight year old keeps asking how many more days
• 2:56
Speaker 8: do I go back to school? So I said, you
• 2:58
Speaker 8: stop another week, You're fine, be.
• 3:00
Speaker 7: Fine, And if the weather forecast holds, then they may
• 3:03
Speaker 7: get a couple of more days off next week.
• 3:04
Speaker 8: I may they get excited. Yeah, they get excited about
• 3:07
  Speaker 8: that too.
• 3:08
Speaker 7: I know, Senator. I mentioned this on the air a
• 3:10
Speaker 7: couple of weeks ago, that you've been hobbling around here
• 3:14
Speaker 7: as late. We're covering from a little knee surgery. Is
• 3:16
Speaker 7: that right, I have?
• 3:18
Speaker 8: Hobbling is a good word, Dave. I'm definitely not moving
• 3:20
Speaker 8: as fast as I like to. I'm twelve days out
• 3:23
Speaker 8: from totalknee replacement and things are going really well. I
• 3:26
  Speaker 8: just you know, I don't like being down. I don't
• 3:29
Speaker 8: have time to be down. So even though I'm being
• 3:32
Speaker 8: told I'm a head of schedule, I still feel like
• 3:33
Speaker 8: I've got got a long way to go.
• 3:35
Speaker 7: Was this an old teaching injury? Maybe from dusting erasers
• 3:38
Speaker 7: the wrong way or something?
• 3:40
Speaker 8: You know. Actually, I've had terrible knees. My knees are
• 3:43
Speaker 8: a lot older than the rest of me, and so
• 3:45
Speaker 8: I've had four knee surgeries prior to this. In my life.
• 3:47
Speaker 8: I had both acls reconstructed. I just played hard when
• 3:50
Speaker 8: I was young. You know, I was into all kinds
• 3:51
Speaker 8: of sports, and I will tell you when you're younger,
• 3:54
Speaker 8: you know that if you don't take care of yourself,
• 3:56
Speaker 8: that you know, eventually in your forties, you'll have to
• 3:58
Speaker 8: have total knee replacements. So I learned that the hard way,
• 4:02
Speaker 8: and hopefully, you know, hopefully this will give me a
• 4:04
Speaker 8: new And I told my kids at school. When I
• 4:06
Speaker 8: come back and I'm all healed up, I said, you know,
• 4:08
Speaker 8: I'm maybe faster than ever.
• 4:09
Speaker 7: You never know, you might be able to catch them
• 4:11
Speaker 7: now you know they decided to run around. You know,
• 4:13
Speaker 7: Miss Grady has got new nees. She's like the bionic woman.
• 4:16
Speaker 7: I mean, she's already she can catch us.
• 4:18
Speaker 8: Now, that's what I tell them.
• 4:20
Speaker 7: I want to talk about the year that was twenty
• 4:21
Speaker 7: twenty four for you, maybe some of the legislative highs
• 4:24
Speaker 7: and lows and whatever else may be.
• 4:26
  Speaker 2: On your mind.
• 4:27
Speaker 8: Well, you know, twenty twenty four. I feel like, gosh,
• 4:30
Speaker 8: it went by so fast, Dave. Don't you feel that way.
• 4:32
Speaker 8: I think as we get older, we noticed that things
• 4:34
Speaker 8: go by so much quicker than they did. One thing
• 4:38
Speaker 8: that I'm focused on for our legislative session this year
• 4:41
Speaker 8: is something that I focused on heavily last year in
• 4:43
Speaker 8: twenty twenty four that unfortunately didn't make it to the
• 4:45
Speaker 8: finish line. I was really frustrated over it. It was the
• 4:48
Speaker 8: discipline bill. I don't remember if you know, if you
• 4:50
Speaker 8: remember that, I think I talked on your show about it,
• 4:52
Speaker 8: that elementary discipline bill, you know, and I was really
• 4:55
Speaker 8: frustrated that didn't make it. It died on the last
• 4:57
Speaker 8: night of session. But things have come up in the
• 4:59
Speaker 8: last year than I've learned that I knew that bill
• 5:02
Speaker 8: wasn't perfect to begin with. It was something that I
• 5:04
Speaker 8: thought gave us a start that has more people have
• 5:07
Speaker 8: become involved and have taken notice of it, and we
• 5:09
Speaker 8: have more input, which I think this past year, more
• 5:13
Speaker 8: input into it, they can give us a better bill
• 5:16
Speaker 8: for this upcoming session. So I'm pretty excited about that.
• 5:18
Speaker 8: That's you know, that was a low and a high
• 5:21
Speaker 8: point because you know, the Lord works in mysterious ways,
• 5:24
Speaker 8: and so at that point that I thought I was
• 5:26
Speaker 8: frustrated we didn't get something passed. Maybe it was for
• 5:28
Speaker 8: the better because it got more people involved to try
• 5:31
Speaker 8: to find a solution that would would be better. Maybe,
• 5:34
Speaker 8: does that make sense?
• 5:35
Speaker 7: Yeah, And Senator Grady again, we're talking with Senator m
• 5:38
Speaker 7: Nicole Grady. For those that may not have heard you
• 5:40
Speaker 7: on the show or heard some of your your discussions
• 5:42
Speaker 7: at the Capitol during the session. What exactly is the issue?
• 5:45
Speaker 7: I mean, I know there's ten thousand issues with this
• 5:48
Speaker 7: one in the schools, but particularly what do you see
• 5:51
Speaker 7: as the biggest issues and what needs to be done
• 5:53
  Speaker 7: about them?
• 5:54
Speaker 8: You know, the biggest issues, David. The teachers don't feel
• 5:58
Speaker 8: like they have a say in if they feel unsafe
• 6:01
Speaker 8: or they feel that a student is creating an unsafe
• 6:04
Speaker 8: environment for other learners in their classroom. A lot of
• 6:07
Speaker 8: times they'll send a child out and they're sent right
• 6:09
Speaker 8: back in and they don't feel And I'm talking about
• 6:13
Speaker 8: violent kids, So I'm talking about throwing desks, throwing things, hitting, punching, kicking, biting,
• 6:18
Speaker 8: you know, something that people shouldn't professionals shouldn't have to
• 6:20
Speaker 8: put up with. And so this bill would give teachers
• 6:24
Speaker 8: a say when they feel that it's unsafe in their
• 6:28
Speaker 8: classroom or the students that they they have in their
• 6:30
Speaker 8: classroom are unsafe and cannot learn, And it removes the
• 6:34
Speaker 8: child from the classroom immediately, and it makes the county
• 6:38
Speaker 8: do a they have to do pending a Oh goodness,
• 6:44
Speaker 8: I get my loss for what the what the loss
• 6:45
Speaker 8: of words are, but an assessment of risk and that
• 6:48
Speaker 8: child can come back. Yes, yeah, so and there's a
• 6:51
Speaker 8: lot more things involved with that too. Uh what what
• 6:54
Speaker 8: you know what happens in each specific case. But it
• 6:57
Speaker 8: allows the teachers to say, you know that the hey,
• 6:59
Speaker 8: I you know, I can't do my job because this
• 7:01
Speaker 8: child is a danger to other students. And so that's
• 7:04
Speaker 8: what we're trying to look at. We're not looking at
• 7:06
Speaker 8: these kids, Dave, who are just who are just causing problems,
• 7:09
Speaker 8: as being disruptions when it comes to just being class
• 7:11
Speaker 8: clowns or you know, just being those stinkers. We're not
• 7:13
  Speaker 8: talking about that.
• 7:14
Speaker 7: Work easy with that.
• 7:15
Speaker 8: Really, most of them, most of you were one of.
• 7:17
Speaker 7: The most of those go into radio.
• 7:20
Speaker 8: Oh I'm sure they do.
• 7:22
Speaker 7: But again, yeah, this is a totally different situation. I mean, yeah,
• 7:25
Speaker 7: I get and I listened and I heard some of
• 7:27
Speaker 7: the testimony from some of the teachers, which I'm sure
• 7:29
Speaker 7: you know you you recalled as well. I mean you've
• 7:32
Speaker 7: witnessed it because you are a classroom teacher. I mean,
• 7:34
Speaker 7: this is not as we said I was kind of
• 7:36
Speaker 7: joking about. This is not chewing gum, this is not
• 7:38
Speaker 7: talking too loud. These are in many cases, these kids
• 7:42
Speaker 7: that are violent and a lot of times parents, if
• 7:45
Speaker 7: they're even part of the situation, grandparents or whatever, send
• 7:49
Speaker 7: them to school and say, hey, I can't deal with them.
• 7:52
Speaker 7: You deal with them, and and it's it creates an
• 7:55
Speaker 7: environment if you've got twenty five twenty six kids in
• 7:57
Speaker 7: the classroom, it's not fair to those other kids either, No,
• 8:00
  Speaker 7: it's not.
• 8:01
Speaker 8: We have to protect the kids that come there to learn.
• 8:03
Speaker 8: And and you know a lot of times these parents
• 8:04
Speaker 8: are grandparents that are raising these kids. They have they
• 8:06
Speaker 8: have reached out to lots of people to try to
• 8:08
Speaker 8: get help for these children. They have nowhere else to go,
• 8:11
Speaker 8: you know, and the school system just isn't equipped to
• 8:13
Speaker 8: deal with these types of behaviors. Are seeing now like
• 8:15
Speaker 8: there's you know, there are not things that we can
• 8:18
Speaker 8: do for certain types of behaviors, and they need some
• 8:21
Speaker 8: different mental health help that schools can't provide. You know,
• 8:24
Speaker 8: we have to we have to find a line, you know,
• 8:26
Speaker 8: when we're when we're teaching and when we have our
• 8:28
Speaker 8: school systems is what are our schools for?
• 8:30
  Speaker 2: You know?
• 8:30
Speaker 8: What was the main purpose of our public education system
• 8:33
Speaker 8: is to educate? And when we can't do that, we
• 8:36
Speaker 8: have to figure out a way that we can that
• 8:38
Speaker 8: we can work it around, so we can, you know.
• 8:40
Speaker 8: So it's without tossing these kids to the side. So
• 8:43
Speaker 8: that's the tricky part is you want to provide them
• 8:45
Speaker 8: the help they need and the resources they need without
• 8:48
Speaker 8: just tossing them to the side and saying we're forgetting
• 8:49
Speaker 8: about you, you know, because that's definitely not what we want
• 8:51
  Speaker 8: to do.
• 8:52
Speaker 7: Talking to Stu Senderami Nicole Grady. But they've valance showing
• 8:54

• 9:08
Speaker 7: you center. As we headed to the new session, there
• 9:11
Speaker 7: is going to be a new Senate president and Randy Smith.
• 9:13
  Speaker 7: Your thoughts there.
• 9:15
Speaker 8: I like Randy. Randy is a really good, honest fella,
• 9:18
Speaker 8: and I think, you know, the majority of our caucus
• 9:20
Speaker 8: voted for Andy Beer Center president, and I think that
• 9:22
Speaker 8: speaks volumes. I think he'll go in and he'll try
• 9:25
Speaker 8: to do things the right way. I really do. I
• 9:26
Speaker 8: think he'll try to do things the right way. He'll
• 9:28
Speaker 8: try to be fair, and I think that that matters
• 9:31
Speaker 8: to the members of our caucus. And I'm you know,
• 9:33
Speaker 8: I'm curious to see how things go. I have talked
• 9:35
Speaker 8: to him on several occasions on how as he's setting
• 9:38
  Speaker 8: things up, and I think, like I said, he's he's
• 9:40
Speaker 8: trying to do what's right. And we'll see, you know,
• 9:43
Speaker 8: we'll see with new leadership, there's always some kinks. So
• 9:45
Speaker 8: you know, I'm going to remain an Education Chair and
• 9:48
Speaker 8: I'm there to help him in whatever way he needs
• 9:50
  Speaker 8: me to.
• 9:51
Speaker 7: You know, Senator, there's gonna be a lot of a
• 9:52
Speaker 7: lot of changes around the Capitol of the new year.
• 9:54
Speaker 7: We have a new governor, of course, and Patrick Morrissey,
• 9:57
Speaker 7: the current Attorney General. All of the Board of Public
• 9:59
Speaker 7: Work except for the Agriculture Commissioner have now changed. New
• 10:03
Speaker 7: Secretary of State, a new Attorney General, new auditor, so.
• 10:06
Speaker 2: On and so forth.
• 10:07
Speaker 7: A lot of changes around the Capitol building.
• 10:10
Speaker 8: Yes, there are a lot of new faces, a lot
• 10:12
Speaker 8: of a lot of things will change the way they're done.
• 10:14
Speaker 8: You know, it is going to be and we have
• 10:16
Speaker 8: you know, in our own in our own body. I
• 10:18
Speaker 8: think we have about eight eight new faces, possibly any
• 10:22
Speaker 8: in the Senate, you know, so that's a big change
• 10:25
Speaker 8: as well. So the way things will work and you know,
• 10:28
Speaker 8: the dynamic of how things will work well most definitely change.
• 10:31
Speaker 8: So I'm I'm interested to see how that goes. You know,
• 10:34
Speaker 8: it could, it could be a good thing, and it could,
• 10:38
Speaker 8: you know, like I said, have some kings. But we'll
• 10:39
Speaker 8: you know, we'll see there's not really anything we can
• 10:41
Speaker 8: do about it rather than try to make it work,
• 10:43
  Speaker 8: you know.
• 10:44
Speaker 7: Other other than the discipline bill that you read from Stirlier,
• 10:47
Speaker 7: what are some of the things that you would like
• 10:49
Speaker 7: to see accomplished or or looked at in the new session.
• 10:51
  Speaker 2: Senator.
• 10:52
Speaker 8: You know we've been all this time. I know, Dave,
• 10:55
Speaker 8: you probably get tired of hearing me talk about education things.
• 10:58
Speaker 8: But I am the education chare and I'm a teacher,
• 10:59
Speaker 8: and so that is my passion. But one thing I've
• 11:02
Speaker 8: been working on this year that I'd love to see
• 11:04
Speaker 8: us get accomplished is we have that funding formula, the
• 11:07
Speaker 8: school aid funding formula that has not been really really
• 11:12
Speaker 8: revamped since the early nineties, and so we have a
• 11:16
Speaker 8: funding formula. It's funding our schools based on things that
• 11:19
Speaker 8: we're needed in the nineties, and now our schools are
• 11:21
Speaker 8: so different in the things we need and how we
• 11:23
Speaker 8: operate are so different that we really need to change that.
• 11:27
Speaker 8: And so there have been several of us who've been
• 11:29
Speaker 8: working on it for the past year, trying to change
• 11:31
Speaker 8: some things. The only problem is it's a seven step
• 11:34
Speaker 8: formula that has about fifteen the sixteen stuff, so once
• 11:39
Speaker 8: you change one, it makes another. One change is we're
• 11:41
Speaker 8: trying to make it a little friendlier for counties, but
• 11:43
Speaker 8: also to make it student centered. And so that's one
• 11:46
Speaker 8: thing that I hope that we can finish, get finished
• 11:49
Speaker 8: and get across the finish line at least part way,
• 11:51
Speaker 8: so we can make some changes that can help counties,
• 11:53
Speaker 8: you know, with these these riffs and things like that.
• 11:55
Speaker 8: At the end of the year, it's all based on
• 11:57
Speaker 8: that formula, and so we have to figure out out,
• 12:00
Speaker 8: you know, what is really needed for each canyon, what's
• 12:02
Speaker 8: needed to make sure that that money really trickles down
• 12:05
Speaker 8: to the students in the classroom. And so that's that's
• 12:07
Speaker 8: a primary focus for me.
• 12:09
Speaker 7: Said naming Nicole Grady. We wish you the best in
• 12:11
Speaker 7: your continued recovery. They say you're ahead of schedule. You're
• 12:14
Speaker 7: you've always been an overachiever.
• 12:16
Speaker 8: Right, Well, I feel that way, I hope, So I
• 12:19
Speaker 8: hope I remain ahead of schedule day because I don't
• 12:21
Speaker 8: have time to have a step back.
• 12:22
Speaker 7: Well, and I can see you now, I mean, you
• 12:24
Speaker 7: know when when secession gavels in. I mean, you've got
• 12:26
Speaker 7: to be able to navigate those steps and the whole deal.
• 12:29
Speaker 7: But you got this right, I do.
• 12:31
Speaker 8: Yeah. And I have my little granny walker just in
• 12:33
  Speaker 8: case I need it. I am, I said, I'm going
• 12:35
Speaker 8: to put a horn and a basket in front of
• 12:36
Speaker 8: us so I can carry all my things with me.
• 12:38

• 18:05
Speaker 7: the things you do in politics, no matter what you did,
• 18:08
Speaker 7: you're going to be a history guy.
• 18:09
  Speaker 3: Because you are.
• 18:10
Speaker 7: You're quite the historian, you know, and not just Republican.
• 18:14
Speaker 7: I mean we're talking about US history in general. I
• 18:16
Speaker 7: want to spend some time talking with you about former
• 18:19
Speaker 7: President Jimmy Carter, who passed away yesterday at the age
• 18:22
  Speaker 7: of one hundred.
• 18:23
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 18:23
  Speaker 3: So it's interesting.
• 18:24
Speaker 5: I mean, here, i am a leader in the Republican Party,
• 18:28
Speaker 5: but I'm coming on the day after this event has
• 18:31
Speaker 5: happened in our country, where President Jimmy Carter has passed away.
• 18:34
Speaker 5: I want to give you an interesting thought that maybe
• 18:37
Speaker 5: a lot of people haven't thought about, but about two
• 18:39
Speaker 5: thirds of Americans alive today have never experienced a democratic
• 18:45
Speaker 5: president passing away. The vast majority of this country has
• 18:49
Speaker 5: never seen this happen. The last time a Democratic president
• 18:52
Speaker 5: passed away was in nineteen seventy three. And I did
• 18:55
Speaker 5: some calculations last night, and only about twenty nine percent
• 18:57
Speaker 5: of Americans alive today were alive to when Lenna Johnson
• 19:02
Speaker 5: passed away. So this is something very new. I have
• 19:05
Speaker 5: never witnessed a Democratic president passing away in my life.
• 19:07
Speaker 5: Every president that has passed away has been a Republican.
• 19:09
Speaker 7: I never really thought about that, but I was alive
• 19:12
Speaker 7: in nineteen seventy three, but I do not remember.
• 19:14
  Speaker 3: You couldn't remember.
• 19:15
  Speaker 7: I don't remember that. The thing I remember most I
• 19:18
Speaker 7: guess about Jimmy Carter.
• 19:21
  Speaker 11: And was that.
• 19:22
Speaker 7: You know, I was born in nineteen seventy so I
• 19:24
Speaker 7: have vague memories of the Watergate scandal, mainly my mother
• 19:29
Speaker 7: complaining because it was on every channel and after work
• 19:31
Speaker 7: she couldn't watch anything but Watergate. But I don't remember
• 19:34
Speaker 7: a whole lot of it. I do remember Gerald Ford
• 19:36
Speaker 7: being president, but the first president that I remember the
• 19:39
Speaker 7: full term of was Jimmy Carter. I liketed a nineteen
• 19:43
Speaker 7: seventy six. Of course, he defeated Gerald Ford and likeded
• 19:45
Speaker 7: in nineteen seventy six. That's the And I was even
• 19:49
Speaker 7: a you know, I was that kid, second or third grade.
• 19:51
Speaker 7: It was such a news junkie, and I was reading
• 19:53
Speaker 7: everything I could about politics and the news and so
• 19:56
Speaker 7: on and so forth. But Carter is the first president
• 19:58
Speaker 7: that I can say, I fully that I do remember
• 20:00
Speaker 7: his his full term.
• 20:02
Speaker 3: Well, I wasn't even born when he was and he
• 20:03
Speaker 3: was the president, but but.
• 20:06
Speaker 5: You know, he you know, as a as a Republican, obviously,
• 20:10
Speaker 5: I'm gonna have a lot of disagreements with what I
• 20:13
Speaker 5: read about his presidency, most notably the Iran issue.
• 20:18
Speaker 3: The root of that.
• 20:19
Speaker 5: Was was kind of rooted back in that era in
• 20:22
Speaker 5: the late nineteen seventies, and we're still dealing with that
• 20:24
Speaker 5: problem to this very day. So I have sharp disagreements
• 20:27
Speaker 5: with Jimmy Carter. But with that being said, I do
• 20:29
Speaker 5: want to say, since he's just passed, that I do
• 20:33
Speaker 5: thank him for his service to our country, his military
• 20:35
Speaker 5: service and his political service.
• 20:37
Speaker 3: And also I really.
• 20:39
Speaker 5: Admire the way that he even though we sharply disagreed
• 20:43
Speaker 5: on most things, what we did what we did agree
• 20:45
Speaker 5: on was the way that he carried himself in his faith.
• 20:50
Speaker 3: He was very outspoken about his faith.
• 20:51
Speaker 5: He was a Sunday school teacher all the way up
• 20:53
Speaker 5: into his nineties at his little local church down there
• 20:57
Speaker 5: in rural Georgia Plains, Georgia. Even his house that he
• 21:02
Speaker 5: lived in down there was very I mean, you know,
• 21:04
Speaker 5: it was much more humble than a lot of former presidents.
• 21:09
Speaker 5: Not as much security and things like that. He lived
• 21:11
Speaker 5: a more humble life. But the way that he carried
• 21:13
Speaker 5: his faith on his sleeve and it was public with it.
• 21:16
Speaker 5: I have a lot of admiration for that. And I've
• 21:18
Speaker 5: noticed a lot of statements that come out from the
• 21:20
Speaker 5: modern day Democrats. They're, of course, they're thankful for his
• 21:23
Speaker 5: service and all that kind of stuff, but they don't
• 21:26
Speaker 5: mention his Christian faith as much as what I think
• 21:28
Speaker 5: Jimmy Carter did throughout his life. And I think that's
• 21:31
Speaker 5: a little bit unfortunate because that's how he defined himself.
• 21:34
Speaker 5: He defined himself as a Christian and he was very
• 21:37
Speaker 5: much public about that, and that affected all of his
• 21:39
Speaker 5: humanitarian work, his habitat for humanity work. He won a
• 21:43
Speaker 5: Nobel Peace Prize. But all of that stuff, if you
• 21:45
Speaker 5: read some of the things that he wrote, all that
• 21:47
Speaker 5: stuff was rooted and grounded in his Christian faith, and
• 21:49
  Speaker 5: I just think that's really important. So I have a
• 21:51
Speaker 5: lot of admiration for that. I commend him for that,
• 21:55
Speaker 5: and of course last night I said a prayer for
• 21:57
Speaker 5: his family and his loved ones as they as they
• 22:00
Speaker 5: deal with their loss.
• 22:01
Speaker 7: I don't know now that Jimmy Carter would be welcomed
• 22:06
Speaker 7: in the National Democratic Party, and I'm not and look,
• 22:09
Speaker 7: before anybody says anything, I'll say the same thing about
• 22:12
Speaker 7: Ronald Reagan. There's some aspects of Ronald Reagan that would
• 22:16
Speaker 7: not be welcomed. I'm not talking about you particularly, but
• 22:19
Speaker 7: there are some aspects of Ronald Reaganism that wouldn't be
• 22:22
Speaker 7: welcome in the modern Republican Party either. But I but
• 22:24
Speaker 7: I certainly think that Jimmy Carter would probably I'm not
• 22:27
Speaker 7: going to say he wouldn't be welcome. Let me back
• 22:29
Speaker 7: that up a little bit. But I think that if
• 22:31
Speaker 7: you had the political strategist of today like we see
• 22:34
Speaker 7: on the National Democratic Party, I think that they probably
• 22:38
Speaker 7: would say, yeah, you need to dial that back a
• 22:39
  Speaker 7: little bit.
• 22:40
Speaker 5: Well, and he probably would not have Yeah, I think
• 22:43
Speaker 5: I think he still belongs to the Democratic Party, and
• 22:45
Speaker 5: I think from from my view, most most of the
• 22:48
Speaker 5: party today would still bring him in. Maybe not in leadership,
• 22:51
Speaker 5: you know, certainly not at the presidential level, but I
• 22:54
Speaker 5: do think that they would because even though Jimmy Carter,
• 22:58
Speaker 5: you know, had this personal faith. On the other hand,
• 23:00
Speaker 5: he was a bona fide liberal. He was very very
• 23:04
Speaker 5: much on the left, very very much and and and
• 23:08
Speaker 5: so even even in his older life he was extremely
• 23:12
Speaker 5: critical of Republican presidents and Republican policies and things like that.
• 23:16
Speaker 5: He was very much on the left. There's that is
• 23:18
Speaker 5: quite certain, and so I think he still would be.
• 23:21
Speaker 5: He does have a place in the Democratic Party. That's
• 23:24
Speaker 5: that's where he that's his home, and I think his
• 23:27
Speaker 5: legacy there will remain. But his legacy as a president, obviously,
• 23:32
Speaker 5: a lot of history has passed since he was president.
• 23:33
Speaker 5: There's been a lot written about it. You know, it
• 23:36
Speaker 5: takes maybe forty to fifty years before you could do
• 23:38
Speaker 5: a really strong assessment on someone, and we're getting close
• 23:43
Speaker 5: to that point now. It's been you know, it's been
• 23:45
Speaker 5: quite some time since he was the president. And but look,
• 23:49
Speaker 5: he you know, like I said, he lived a life.
• 23:52
Speaker 5: His personal side of his life is to be admired,
• 23:55
Speaker 5: and there's a lot to learn from his presidency on
• 23:58
Speaker 5: maybe what to do and whatnot.
• 24:00
Speaker 7: And his wife, he and his wife were married for
• 24:02
  Speaker 7: seventy six years.
• 24:03
Speaker 3: That's amazing. And he lived to one hundred years old.
• 24:05
Speaker 5: I mean that's you know, the oldest, the oldest United
• 24:08
Speaker 5: States president ever now, of course in nineteen twenty four
• 24:10
Speaker 5: to twenty twenty four. I want to tell you quick stories.
• 24:13
Speaker 5: So when George HW. Bush, she was the last president
• 24:17
Speaker 5: that passed away. When he passed away, I loaded up
• 24:20
Speaker 5: my family in the evening, my entire family, my father
• 24:24
Speaker 5: in law, my wife, my kids. We loaded up in
• 24:26
Speaker 5: the car and we left at about We left here
• 24:29
Speaker 5: about seven pm or so, and George W.
• 24:33
  Speaker 3: Bush, George H. W.
• 24:34
Speaker 5: Bush was lying in state in the US Capitol and
• 24:36
Speaker 5: his funeral was going to be the next day at
• 24:37
Speaker 5: the National Cathedral. I took my family, loaded him up
• 24:40
Speaker 5: in the car, and we drove from my house into
• 24:43
Speaker 5: the evening all the way up to Washington, d C.
• 24:45
Speaker 5: And I said, you know what, I want to get
• 24:47
Speaker 5: there late. I want to get there at like one
• 24:48
Speaker 5: or two am. We ended up getting there at two am.
• 24:50
Speaker 5: I had to stop a few times. We got there
• 24:52
Speaker 5: at two am. I said, I want to get there late.
• 24:54
Speaker 5: That way we can walk through and pay our respects.
• 24:56
Speaker 5: There won't be anybody there, it'll be late at night.
• 24:58
Speaker 5: We get there at two am and line is backed
• 25:00
Speaker 5: up at least for about twelve to fourteen blocks at
• 25:04
Speaker 5: two am in the morning, which was just incredible.
• 25:07
Speaker 3: But we made it.
• 25:08
Speaker 5: We made it there, and then the next day we
• 25:10
Speaker 5: went over to the National Cathedral in Washington, d C.
• 25:13
Speaker 5: For his funeral and it was just very moving. It's
• 25:17
Speaker 5: really I know they're going to do a day of
• 25:19
Speaker 5: mourning for President Carter on January ninth, but you know,
• 25:24
Speaker 5: I think we have to pay our respects to people
• 25:26
Speaker 5: who have put themselves out there led our country, whether
• 25:29
Speaker 5: we agree with them or disagree with them. At the
• 25:31
Speaker 5: end of the day, when it comes to life and death,
• 25:33
Speaker 5: partisanship can take a back seat. You know, this is
• 25:36
Speaker 5: life we're talking about. These are people God's created people,
• 25:40
Speaker 5: no matter what side of the isle they're on. And
• 25:42
Speaker 5: so in this time with his passing, just like with
• 25:45
Speaker 5: Bush's passing and Reagan and on back through Ford and
• 25:49
Speaker 5: the rest, you know, I think it's right and appropriate
• 25:53
Speaker 5: for Americans to recognize that and to mourn and just
• 25:58
  Speaker 5: pay their respects.
• 25:58
  Speaker 3: I think it's due.
• 25:59
Speaker 7: I'll say this will close on Jimmy Carter. Although I
• 26:01
Speaker 7: do have a couple of texts about the life of
• 26:03
Speaker 7: Jimmy Carter. Many people I think are going to say,
• 26:07
Speaker 7: myself included that Jimmy Carter may have been the best
• 26:10
Speaker 7: person that ever, one of the best that ever occupied
• 26:15
Speaker 7: the White House. He's going to go down is possibly
• 26:18
Speaker 7: sadly one of the worst presidents in history, but he
• 26:20
Speaker 7: is going to go down probably as one of the
• 26:22
Speaker 7: best people I agree with that ever to ever hold
• 26:25
  Speaker 7: that office.
• 26:25
  Speaker 3: I think that's true.
• 26:26
Speaker 5: I think him and George Washington, I think are a
• 26:28
Speaker 5: step above a lot of the others that we've had
• 26:31
Speaker 5: very much agree with that.
• 26:34
Speaker 7: Let me knock out a couple of texts here, because
• 26:36
Speaker 7: you always elicit text Tony. You've got to be a
• 26:38
Speaker 7: nice You not even said anything already. People take an
• 26:41
Speaker 7: issue with Texas. Dave asked Tony about his thoughts on
• 26:44
Speaker 7: the MAGA in fighting over the H one B immigrants.
• 26:47
Speaker 7: Seems that the billionaire Magas want their indentured servants who
• 26:50
Speaker 7: will work eighty hours a week for half the money
• 26:52
Speaker 7: as an American would work for bringing in immigrants to
• 26:55
Speaker 7: drive down American wages. Question Mark, that's a very America
• 26:58
Speaker 7: first policy, not just for working class Americans.
• 27:01
Speaker 5: Well, look, I mean it's a free market society, and
• 27:04
Speaker 5: the market will determine what our wages will be. One
• 27:07
Speaker 5: thing I like to say, though, is I saw this
• 27:09
Speaker 5: dust up in the news and on social media and
• 27:12
Speaker 5: such on this immigration thing.
• 27:14
  Speaker 3: H one B.
• 27:16
Speaker 5: I'll be honest with you, it was the holidays. I
• 27:18
Speaker 5: wasn't paying real close attention and I'm with my family.
• 27:20
Speaker 5: But I will say this, from what I've seen, there
• 27:22
Speaker 5: are different members of the perspective the future administration that's
• 27:26
Speaker 5: coming up that'll be installed in January, Donald Trump's administration.
• 27:30
Speaker 5: There's members of that administration who see things differently.
• 27:32
  Speaker 3: I saw Vivid.
• 27:33
Speaker 5: Ramaswami saying one thing. I saw Elon Musk saying another thing,
• 27:36
Speaker 5: and different ones. Man, I think that when I see that,
• 27:39
Speaker 5: I see strength. I see what Abraham Lincoln like. What
• 27:44
Speaker 5: he put together was called a team of rivals. That's
• 27:46
Speaker 5: what I see. You need people on your team. If
• 27:48
Speaker 5: everybody in the room is thinking the same thing, then
• 27:50
Speaker 5: somebody's not thinking. So you need a team of people
• 27:53
Speaker 5: there that can give different perspectives. Elon Musk gives a
• 27:56
Speaker 5: perspective on this particular issue that not a lot of
• 27:58
Speaker 5: other people can give. You know, he's African American, came
• 28:02
Speaker 5: here from South Africa and worked as an immigrant. And
• 28:07
Speaker 5: you have Vivic, you have all different ones. And I
• 28:09
Speaker 5: think putting all of these opinions together and coming to
• 28:13
Speaker 5: the right solution we need that. We need people with
• 28:16
Speaker 5: strong opinions that are differing opinions, and when we pull
• 28:20
Speaker 5: all that together, I think we will come out with
• 28:21
  Speaker 5: the right outcome.
• 28:22
Speaker 7: And I want to talk about that as it relates
• 28:24
Speaker 7: to West Virginia coming up a little bit later on
• 28:26
Speaker 7: in the show. I do need to remind you though,
• 28:27

• 28:47
Speaker 7: Reagan do some dastardly trickery during the hostage crisis to
• 28:51
Speaker 7: help himself get elected over Carter. I bet that's not
• 28:54
Speaker 7: in Tony's history books.
• 28:56
Speaker 5: Well, it's it's true that the Iranians did not release
• 28:59
Speaker 5: the hostage is until moments after Ronald Reagan was elect
• 29:03
Speaker 5: to president. It's one hundred percent true. I mean, look
• 29:06
Speaker 5: at the look at the history of it. Uh, the
• 29:08
Speaker 5: Iranians didn't want to have anything to do with what
• 29:10
Speaker 5: Carter was offering. I mean, Carter, Carter did not show
• 29:12
Speaker 5: leadership in that time. I'm sorry, he just didn't. Every
• 29:15
Speaker 5: historian agrees on that these are these are these are
• 29:18
  Speaker 5: just factual factors.
• 29:19
Speaker 7: That's kind of what I alluded to a little bit
• 29:20
Speaker 7: earlier about how he's gonna one of the one of
• 29:23
Speaker 7: the sticky points that in the economy and inflation are
• 29:26
Speaker 7: going to be one of the things that people look
• 29:28
Speaker 7: back into carter presidency. Again, his his great deeds, notwithstanding
• 29:33
Speaker 7: many of those happened after he was in office, But
• 29:36
Speaker 7: that's one of the things that they're going to look
• 29:37
Speaker 7: back on and say, well, he was probably less than
• 29:39
  Speaker 7: stellar president.
• 29:40
  Speaker 3: Yeah.
• 29:40
Speaker 5: Yeah, And in the Iranian issue is a huge issue
• 29:43
Speaker 5: This isn't just uh, this isn't just a regional issue.
• 29:45
Speaker 5: This is a worldwide issue. It's very important. We don't
• 29:47
Speaker 5: talk enough about it. Really it's it's It has caused
• 29:51
Speaker 5: major problems for the stability in the Middle East, and
• 29:55
Speaker 5: quite frankly, every president has not been able to deal
• 29:59
Speaker 5: with this operly. And really the thing that's going to
• 30:04
Speaker 5: get Iranian fixed is the Iranian people. There's nothing the
• 30:06
Speaker 5: outsiders can do. All we can do is encourage the
• 30:09
Speaker 5: Iranian people. It's the same thing they did when they
• 30:11
Speaker 5: had the revolution in nineteen seventy nine. A group of people,
• 30:14
Speaker 5: a group of students, banded together and overthrew the Shaw
• 30:18
Speaker 5: threw him out. Well, he was already out, he was
• 30:19
Speaker 5: here getting cancer treatments in America, but they wanted to
• 30:22
Speaker 5: bring him back so they could kill him. And anyway,
• 30:25
Speaker 5: he died while he was out of the country. But anyway,
• 30:28
Speaker 5: the Iranian people have to be the ones to rise up,
• 30:31
Speaker 5: and we need to encourage those people to do that,
• 30:34
Speaker 5: give them the strength and fortitude to say, hey, we'll
• 30:36
Speaker 5: back you if you do this, and we just haven't
• 30:38
Speaker 5: been able to do it.
• 30:39
Speaker 7: Texas Dave President Carter was a giver he lived a
• 30:41
Speaker 7: full life. However, he was the last Democrat that I
• 30:44
  Speaker 7: ever voted for.
• 30:45
Speaker 5: Well, you know, I was thinking about talking about this
• 30:48
Speaker 5: last night. Was some party leadership, and one thing that
• 30:52
Speaker 5: we acknowledged was a lot of people in West Virginia
• 30:55
Speaker 5: voted for Jimmy Carter. You know, we're a Republican state now,
• 30:58
Speaker 5: but at that time.
• 30:59
Speaker 7: I actually heard that Jeff actually did the numbers on
• 31:01
Speaker 7: a story this morning, Jeff Jenkins and the guys coming
• 31:03
Speaker 7: in this morning. Those may be included on the website,
• 31:04
Speaker 7: I'm not sure, but yeah, he actually talked about the
• 31:06
Speaker 7: popularity of Jimmy Carter in West Virginia. As I mentioned,
• 31:09
Speaker 7: he came here several times. Some of the news channels
• 31:12
Speaker 7: were showing video this morning. Randy Joey interviewed him, and
• 31:15
Speaker 7: he's gonna be unhappy to talk about it today, but
• 31:17
Speaker 7: Jimmy Carter was quite popular in West Virginia.
• 31:18
Speaker 5: He was at that time. And of course it was
• 31:20
Speaker 5: a different era. It was a different era. There was
• 31:22
Speaker 5: a lot of things that were different back then. But
• 31:24
Speaker 5: a lot of people, or many people who are still
• 31:26
Speaker 5: alive today can remember voting for Jimmy Carter and West
• 31:29
Speaker 5: Virginia of course they wouldn't do that today if he
• 31:31
Speaker 5: was on the ballot.
• 31:32
Speaker 3: But that's why we have to be respectful Texas.
• 31:35
Speaker 7: Dave, not just Carter, but most definitely would not be
• 31:37
Speaker 7: welcomed in the Democratic Party today. Just look at how
• 31:40
Speaker 7: they treated his nephew. I think he's talking about Kennedy here,
• 31:43
Speaker 7: whose stands are not much different than his fathers were.
• 31:47
Speaker 7: Going back to what I said about how I don't
• 31:49
Speaker 7: know that Jimmy Carter would be welcome in the party today,
• 31:52
Speaker 7: but Dave Island showing five. Indie Live is brought to

• 35:15
Speaker 7: You want to comment on, well, I was just.
• 35:16
Speaker 5: Gonna say, I'm I don't know who texts that in,
• 35:18
Speaker 5: but I am a little concerned about the Syrian thing.
• 35:20
Speaker 5: I mean, Asad is a bad guy, right, we know
• 35:23
Speaker 5: he's a bad guy. But then when you depose this guy,
• 35:27
Speaker 5: who are they gonna install? Because it's it's isis type
• 35:29
Speaker 5: groups that are going in which Assad's bad, isis is
• 35:33
Speaker 5: worse and so so what do you get in place
• 35:35
Speaker 5: of that? Uh, the texture's right, I mean, I don't know.
• 35:37
Speaker 5: I'm not gonna take a hard position. All I know
• 35:39
Speaker 5: is it's very unstable in Syria right now and Russia's influence.
• 35:43
Speaker 5: I mean, we have to keep our eye on that.
• 35:46
Speaker 7: I mentioned at the beginning of the interview about your podcast.
• 35:49
  Speaker 7: How's it going.
• 35:50
Speaker 5: It's going great, man. I am so surprised at the listenership.
• 35:54
Speaker 5: I barely do any average I don't do any paid advertising.
• 35:57
Speaker 5: I mean, I've mentioned a few times on your show.
• 36:00
Speaker 5: Friends around the country, you know where I'm connecting the
• 36:01
Speaker 5: Republican Party. But the listenership's very high. We have listeners
• 36:05
Speaker 5: all over the country. We're in forty eight states and
• 36:08
Speaker 5: then all over West Virginia. Of course, that's our highest listenership,
• 36:11
Speaker 5: and so it's doing really good. It's a little slow
• 36:13
Speaker 5: over the holidays, you know, I haven't I tried to
• 36:14
Speaker 5: book a few interviews and people want to do it,
• 36:16
Speaker 5: but they want to.
• 36:17
Speaker 3: Do it after the first of the year.
• 36:18
Speaker 5: So I've had just a few monologues by myself, which
• 36:20
Speaker 5: by the way, I'm not a broadcaster, okay, but monologuing
• 36:25
Speaker 5: for an hour or more with zero commercial breaks, yeah,
• 36:28
  Speaker 5: I mean, I guess I could take a break on
• 36:30
Speaker 5: my own, but I just do it. It's not easy
• 36:33
Speaker 5: to do. Like when I'm sitting in here and you
• 36:34
Speaker 5: asked me questions, that's much easier. We bounce off of
• 36:37
Speaker 5: each other, but when you're sitting in a room alone,
• 36:39
Speaker 5: that's difficult. And that's why I have such respect for
• 36:41
Speaker 5: Rush Limball. What he did was amazing and it helped
• 36:45
  Speaker 5: everybody who's who's who's trying to have a voice.
• 36:47
Speaker 7: Well, I mean, look, you know I got a lot
• 36:49
Speaker 7: of heat for saying this when when mister Limball died.
• 36:52
Speaker 7: But if it were not for Rush Limball, politics aside
• 36:55
Speaker 7: AM radio would have died. Yeah, this wholew chs it says, Well,
• 36:59
Speaker 7: I don't want I mean there woul always always would
• 37:00
Speaker 7: have been a place for it, but it would not
• 37:02
Speaker 7: be what it is today because he and he opened
• 37:04
Speaker 7: opened the door for others.
• 37:05
Speaker 5: Well, this station looked very popular, and this station carried
• 37:08
Speaker 5: rushling Ball for for all of my dog life, and uh,
• 37:12
Speaker 5: quite frankly, uh that's that's how I knew to listen
• 37:15
Speaker 5: to five eighty was when I started listening to Rush
• 37:17
Speaker 5: and then then I found out about Hoppy and.
• 37:19
Speaker 7: Well, if you need something to fill the time, remember
• 37:21

• 37:25
Speaker 7: I promote your show on my podcast.

• 37:29
  Speaker 2: I'll do it.
• 37:30
Speaker 7: You have me as a guest, and you've had Danny
• 37:32
Speaker 7: Stones on. I mean, come on, I did have Danny on.
• 37:34
Speaker 7: We talked for Danny was a great guest.
• 37:36
Speaker 3: He was a good guest. Yeah, he talked about what
• 37:38
Speaker 3: it's like digging grave.
• 37:39
Speaker 7: What's what's the when you get off talking to Danny
• 37:41
Speaker 7: and started to tell where it's it's all over what
• 37:43
Speaker 7: what's the name of the podcast again.
• 37:44
Speaker 5: It's called Viewpoint with Tony Hodge. Just just uh put
• 37:48
Speaker 5: Viewpoint with Tony Hodge and Spotify, Apple, iHeart any podcasting
• 37:53
Speaker 5: platform out there were everywhere, So just type it in.
• 37:56
  Speaker 2: Tony.
• 37:57
Speaker 7: You, like myself, do a variety of different things in
• 37:59
Speaker 7: addition to your role with the State Republican Party. But
• 38:02
Speaker 7: you're also the chair of the Putnam County Republican Executive Committee,
• 38:07
Speaker 7: and you folks are now tasked with wading through the
• 38:10
Speaker 7: applications of those who want to be the next Putnam
• 38:13
Speaker 7: County Commissioner. This comes on the heels, of course, of
• 38:15
Speaker 7: Commissioner and former Sheriff Steve Dewez stepping down. We don't
• 38:17
Speaker 7: need to wagh through all that now we all know
• 38:19
Speaker 7: the story. The current Commissioners, Brian Ellis and Commissioned President
• 38:23
Speaker 7: Andy Skidmore were I guess, unable to come to an agreement.
• 38:27
Speaker 7: It wasn't like it was a big argument or anything,
• 38:29
Speaker 7: but one I understand it just they couldn't come to which, again,
• 38:31
Speaker 7: that's not necessarily a bad thing. So now the Executive
• 38:34
Speaker 7: Committee will sift through the list of interested parties and
• 38:37
Speaker 7: then submit those names back to the County Commission. Much
• 38:41
Speaker 7: like a jury, they can strike whoever they want. There's
• 38:44
Speaker 7: not a lot of interest in what was Steve Dewez's
• 38:47
Speaker 7: seat on the Putnam County Commission.
• 38:49
Speaker 5: There's a lot of interest. And what's interesting is, well,
• 38:52
Speaker 5: so Commissioner, to recap what you just said, Commissioner Skidmore
• 38:56
Speaker 5: and Commissioner Ellis could not agree on one per They
• 39:00
Speaker 5: each had different views on that, so it kicks over
• 39:03
Speaker 5: to the Executive Committee. But one of the reasons that
• 39:05
Speaker 5: made it difficult for them to not be able to
• 39:08
Speaker 5: settle on one person. Was twenty one people submitted their
• 39:11
Speaker 5: application and resume for this position, and since they've kicked
• 39:16
Speaker 5: it over to the Executive Committee, we've added three more people.
• 39:18
Speaker 5: So now we're up to twenty four people that we
• 39:21
Speaker 5: have to review. We're reviewing their documentation right now, and
• 39:25
Speaker 5: this process, you know, we take it very very seriously,
• 39:28
Speaker 5: and it shows the level of civic involvement in Putnam
• 39:33
Speaker 5: County is very very high. And as you know, you're
• 39:36
  Speaker 5: a resident, I'm a resident in Putnam County. I think
• 39:38
Speaker 5: half this building here drives in from Putnam. There's a
• 39:41
Speaker 5: lot of us here in this building. But what I
• 39:44
Speaker 5: love about Putnam County is the people there are so
• 39:47
Speaker 5: connected and they're civically minded. They care about their local government,
• 39:51
Speaker 5: they care about getting the right people in place. And
• 39:55
Speaker 5: so we had all of these applicants. We're going through
• 39:57
Speaker 5: it right now. So we're going to have a meeting
• 39:59
Speaker 5: coming up next week. We wanted to wait until after
• 40:02
Speaker 5: the holidays because we don't want to bog down the
• 40:05
Speaker 5: committee members with all this while they're trying to spend
• 40:07
  Speaker 5: time with family.
• 40:08
Speaker 3: But we'll have a meeting next week.
• 40:10
Speaker 5: We're putting a process into place to be able to
• 40:13
Speaker 5: whittle down the names, and eventually we're going to come
• 40:16
Speaker 5: to where we have three names. We'll submit those three
• 40:18
Speaker 5: names over to the two sitting commissioners and what will
• 40:21
Speaker 5: happen then if one of those three names, if they
• 40:24
Speaker 5: both agree on one of those three names, they'll vote
• 40:26
Speaker 5: on that person and that'll be the end of it.
• 40:28
Speaker 5: But if they don't both agree on one of those
• 40:30
Speaker 5: three names, then it will go to the most senior
• 40:34
Speaker 5: commissioner will strike a person, then the junior commissioner will
• 40:38
Speaker 5: strike a person, and then the third one left is
• 40:41
Speaker 5: who our next county commissioner will be.
• 40:43
Speaker 7: So in this process, when you're sitting in that room
• 40:47
Speaker 7: as the executive committee and you're looking over these names,
• 40:50
Speaker 7: take us inside that process. I mean, Putnam County is
• 40:53
Speaker 7: a relatively small county in a small state. So it's
• 40:57
Speaker 7: not like there anybody in that committee is going to
• 41:00
Speaker 7: look at this list of people and say, well, Okay,
• 41:01
Speaker 7: I don't know this guy or I don't know this lady.
• 41:03
Speaker 7: Who I mean, they obviously know everyone there, and there
• 41:06
Speaker 7: are residency requirements. They have to live in the same district,
• 41:10
Speaker 7: which is where mister deuis resided. So what does that
• 41:14
Speaker 7: process look like when you're sitting in a room and
• 41:16
Speaker 7: you're putting names on the board, orybody passed them. I mean,
• 41:18
  Speaker 7: what exactly happens.
• 41:19
Speaker 5: Well, so all of the resumes and applications have been
• 41:22
Speaker 5: distributed to each member for their reviews, so each member
• 41:24
Speaker 5: is individually reviewing it. And what you said is true
• 41:27
Speaker 5: that all of these people who have who have applied,
• 41:31
Speaker 5: a majority of the committee knows knows the person. I mean,
• 41:36
  Speaker 5: it's it's you know, this isn't a huge county and
• 41:39
Speaker 5: so these aren't unknown people. All of them are known,
• 41:42
Speaker 5: so so they do have So we're looking at different things.
• 41:45
Speaker 5: We're looking at residency requirements. We're looking at voter registration.
• 41:49
Speaker 5: You know, you have to the state code says this
• 41:51
Speaker 5: person has to be a Republican, So we have to
• 41:53
Speaker 5: verify that. We don't just assume, you know, we verify.
• 41:56
Speaker 5: We verify that, we verify the residency. We you know,
• 42:00
Speaker 5: we're thinking about things like civic involvement. You know, how
• 42:04
Speaker 5: much have you been involved in the past. You know,
• 42:07
Speaker 5: we may even ask questions of certain ones when we
• 42:09
Speaker 5: start narrowing it down. We may you know, say, hey,
• 42:12
Speaker 5: what what's your view on this or what you know,
• 42:14
Speaker 5: what's your view on economic development, what's your view on
• 42:17
Speaker 5: the business park over here or you know, just differently
• 42:19
Speaker 5: or things. What's your view on broadband and you know,
• 42:24
Speaker 5: water and sewer things that we are thinking that's very important,
• 42:27
Speaker 5: you know, values that are important to Putnam County residents.
• 42:30
Speaker 5: So we'll talk about that with them. And then we're
• 42:32
Speaker 5: also going to talk to each commissioner individually, not together,
• 42:37
Speaker 5: but individually, and we're going to get their thoughts because
• 42:40
Speaker 5: they did sit down and interview twenty one of these people,
• 42:43
Speaker 5: and we'll say, hey, you know, tell us what you
• 42:45
Speaker 5: thought about as you went through the process, and we'll
• 42:48
Speaker 5: take we'll take their views into account. But ultimately, at
• 42:51
Speaker 5: the end of the day, the decision, according to state code,
• 42:54
Speaker 5: rests solely with the Executive Committee, and the Executive Committee
• 42:57
Speaker 5: will operate like that in their own way and be
• 43:00
Speaker 5: independent of any other voice in The Executive Committee will
• 43:03
Speaker 5: come down to a vote, and they will vote to
• 43:06
Speaker 5: submit three names for nomination to the County Commissioner.
• 43:08
Speaker 7: What is our timeline here? I think you said the
• 43:10
Speaker 7: Executive Committee was going to meet next week.
• 43:12
Speaker 5: Yeah, we're going to have said so, yeah, we're shooting
• 43:14
Speaker 5: for a We're shooting for a meeting on January sixth.
• 43:16
Speaker 5: I believe the first meeting of the County Commission is
• 43:19
Speaker 5: January fourteenth. It's my goal as chairman to have three
• 43:22
Speaker 5: names of nomination before the January fourteenth Mission of meeting
• 43:26
Speaker 5: of the County Commission. And so we're going to have
• 43:29
Speaker 5: a meeting on January the sixth, But that doesn't mean
• 43:31
  Speaker 5: that a decision.
• 43:32
Speaker 3: Will be made there. It may be made, but it
• 43:34
  Speaker 3: may not.
• 43:35
Speaker 5: But certainly my goal is to have something in place
• 43:38
Speaker 5: to submit by January the fourteenth.
• 43:40
Speaker 7: And the residency just tell the folks where they have
• 43:43
Speaker 7: to be from. And is it too late again, I'm
• 43:46
Speaker 7: assuming by this time it's too late for someone to.
• 43:48
Speaker 5: Apply right well, according according to State Code. So when
• 43:52
Speaker 5: this happens, State Code puts a lot of dates and
• 43:56
Speaker 5: timetables and things like that on the County Commission Act.
• 44:01
Speaker 5: But when it's kicked over to the Executive Committee man,
• 44:04
Speaker 5: it's wide open. It's a political process. We are under
• 44:07
Speaker 5: zero time constraints. We have we have no rules whatsoever
• 44:11
Speaker 5: other than the person has to be a Republican and
• 44:15
Speaker 5: have residency requirements and things like that.
• 44:16
Speaker 7: And what is the area we're talking about it. It's
• 44:18
Speaker 7: like the eleanor Buffalo.
• 44:20
  Speaker 6: Yeah.
• 44:20
Speaker 5: So it's mostly northern Putnam County Magisterial District one, but
• 44:24
Speaker 5: part of that does does come down into the Tay's
• 44:26
Speaker 5: Valley in Scott Depot area. Uh So, I encourage people
• 44:29
Speaker 5: to go to Putnam WVGP dot com. There's a map
• 44:32
Speaker 5: on that website on the Executive Committee tab. If you
• 44:35
Speaker 5: click on the Executivemmittee tab, there'll be a map and
• 44:37
Speaker 5: it'll show you. You can also go to the Secretary
• 44:39
Speaker 5: of State's website and look up your voter registration. You
• 44:41
Speaker 5: can see what magisterial district you're in, if if, if
• 44:44
Speaker 5: you are interested. But yeah, it's it's generally the northern
• 44:48
Speaker 5: part of the county. But you do you must live
• 44:50
Speaker 5: in that portion of the county, and I think you
• 44:52
Speaker 5: have to live there. There's a certain amount of days.
• 44:54
  Speaker 5: I don't want to quote that because I don't I
• 44:56
Speaker 5: don't have that right off the top of my head,
• 44:57
Speaker 5: but there are certain amount of days you have to
• 44:59
  Speaker 5: live in district.

Speaker 7: military industrial complex see Syrian says job security as a text.
• 48:16
Speaker 5: Well, I mean, look, could be, could be I understand
• 48:19
Speaker 5: that the military industrial complex, huh.
• 48:21
  Speaker 3: I think.
• 48:23
Speaker 5: I think we have probably in the past used a
• 48:27
Speaker 5: lot of tax payer money to prop up a lot
• 48:29
Speaker 5: of military contractors out there and enrich those guys, and
• 48:34
Speaker 5: we do need to put an end to that. So
• 48:36
Speaker 5: my comments on Syria, I never made any illusion that
• 48:39
Speaker 5: we should get involved. I said we need to keep
• 48:41
Speaker 5: a close eye on it. We don't need Syria to
• 48:42
Speaker 5: turn into another Iran and have total wackos in there
• 48:46
Speaker 5: and complete instability. But to get it involved there militarily,
• 48:51
  Speaker 5: I don't know that. I wouldn't wouldn't be leaning that way.
• 48:54
Speaker 7: Texas is someone who broadcasts podcast but isn't a broadcaster
• 48:58
Speaker 7: with the same as a person who runs republic office,
• 49:00
Speaker 7: but it isn't a politician. I've said it often before.
• 49:02
Speaker 7: I have politicians Tony on the show, so well, I'm
• 49:04
Speaker 7: not a politician. Yeah you are, well as soon as
• 49:06
Speaker 7: you sign your name. So I guess what they're alluding
• 49:08
Speaker 7: to is you are now a broadcaster yeah.
• 49:10
Speaker 5: Well, uh, you have to understand when I when I
• 49:12
Speaker 5: say that term, what I mean is, I'm not a
• 49:14
Speaker 5: professional broadcaster like Dave Allen is or like copy what
• 49:19
Speaker 5: I'm trying to compliment you, but I'm not a professional
• 49:21
Speaker 5: broadcaster like these guys. These guys do it as a profession.
• 49:25
Speaker 5: I'm doing it as an aside. Really, uh well, there's
• 49:28
Speaker 5: a lot there's a lot of different reasons. We can
• 49:30
Speaker 5: get into that on the podcast. You can listen to
• 49:31
Speaker 5: your point with Tony Hodgewell. I'll tell you so well.
• 49:34
Speaker 5: I'll tell you so well. But but as far as
• 49:37
Speaker 5: that comment, yeah, I mean, look, I don't do this
• 49:39
  Speaker 5: for a living.
• 49:40
Speaker 3: There's other things that I do for a living. But
• 49:42
Speaker 3: but it is, it is a thing that I'm that
• 49:44
  Speaker 3: I'm moving into.
• 49:44
Speaker 5: Maybe one day I'll be a broadcaster, but right now
• 49:47
Speaker 5: I'm not at the level that these other folks are.
• 49:49
  Speaker 5: You know, I'm I'm I'm learning and I'm trying to
• 49:52
Speaker 5: get there. I'm trying to do better. I'm trying to
• 49:54
Speaker 5: cut out the uh you.
• 49:55
Speaker 3: Know, and all that.
• 49:55
Speaker 5: Why I don't well, I mean, you know, uh, he
• 50:00
Speaker 5: it takes practice. It takes practice.
• 50:02
Speaker 7: Tex says, it's crazy how Tony Hodge and Eric Tarr
• 50:04
Speaker 7: sounded exactly the same on the radio. I don't know
• 50:06
Speaker 7: if they mean your voice or they or they mean
• 50:08
Speaker 7: you're talking wellther both Republicans. Not all Republicans agree on everything, but.
• 50:14
Speaker 5: Well Eric, Eric, Senator Tarr and I have not agreed
• 50:16
Speaker 5: on everything, but we agree on most things. I'll tell
• 50:19
Speaker 5: you we our politics line up very much together. We
• 50:24
Speaker 5: agree on a lot. We've helped each other with a
• 50:25
Speaker 5: lot of I will help him over in our county
• 50:28
Speaker 5: and he'll help me in the legislature, and we work
• 50:30
Speaker 5: very well together. I have a lot of respect for
• 50:32
Speaker 5: Senator Tatar. I think he's represented Putnam County very very well.
• 50:34
Speaker 7: Texas one of the Hoppies last day before retirement, that
• 50:37
Speaker 7: would be this Friday, Texas, Dave. After President Carter's presidency,
• 50:41
Speaker 7: the gap between the two parties wide and tremendously to
• 50:43
Speaker 7: where we are today. Democratic Party has gone so far
• 50:46
Speaker 7: to the left. That's why I will never vote for
• 50:48
Speaker 7: anyone in the Democratic Party. Thanks, Dave, says a text.
• 50:52
Speaker 7: Let me close with this, Tony, you talked about people
• 50:55
Speaker 7: getting along and so on and so forth. We saw
• 50:57
Speaker 7: what was a fairly contentious I'm not out of control,
• 51:00
Speaker 7: but a contentious battle for the states for the Senate
• 51:03
Speaker 7: presidency between Randy Smith, the eventual winner, and the aforementioned
• 51:07
Speaker 7: Eric Tarr and Tom Takubo. In the end, Randy Smith
• 51:09
Speaker 7: is the new Senate President. As somebody who is involved
• 51:13
Speaker 7: in politics, we got to close with this and you
• 51:16
Speaker 7: see what's happening on the national level right now where
• 51:18
Speaker 7: we've got this infighting within the party. Is that something
• 51:21
Speaker 7: that concerns the state Republican party as they look at
• 51:24
Speaker 7: the super duper majority that the Republicans have. Now you're
• 51:26
  Speaker 7: worried about infighting.
• 51:28
Speaker 3: Not at all. Will there be internal disagreements? Well absolutely.
• 51:32
Speaker 5: I mean anytime you get you know, more than one
• 51:35
Speaker 5: human in a room, you have two people in a room,
• 51:37
Speaker 5: two humans, they're eventually going to disagree. And so we're
• 51:39
Speaker 5: going to have that this This shouldn't be shocking, It
• 51:41
Speaker 5: shouldn't be something that should make headlines. The two Republicans disagree,
• 51:45
Speaker 5: it's going to happen. But as far as the leadership
• 51:49
Speaker 5: change over there in the Senate, I mean, look, you know,
• 51:51
Speaker 5: it's an exciting time.
• 51:53
Speaker 3: I mean, we have it's been a while since we've had.
• 51:55
Speaker 5: A leadership change and so we're going to support Randy
• 51:58
Speaker 5: Smith and what he's wanting to do. And I think
• 52:00
  Speaker 5: it's an exciting time. I think it's gonna be a
• 52:02
Speaker 5: lot of fun. Uh, keep our eye on things and
• 52:05
Speaker 5: it's gonna be fun moving forward. I'm enjoying it.
• 52:07
