- 0:12Speaker 1: We're a battlesnake. I am Sam, This is Elliott, and
- 0:18Speaker 1: we are about to go on a huge European tour
- 0:23Speaker 1: and our album, third album, what's it called, The Dawn
- 0:31Speaker 1: of the Dawn of the Exultants and the Hunt for
- 0:34Speaker 1: the Shepherd is coming out on Friday the sixth.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Of June, Fantasy, gentlemen, thanks for joining us again to
- 0:43Speaker 2: spend too.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Long, no worries, thanks for having us my pleasure.
- 0:47Speaker 2: So, as you say, the album we've got, third album,
- 0:50Speaker 2: Dawn of the Exultans of the Hunt for the Shepherd,
- 0:52Speaker 2: comes out this Friday, Dune the sixth. So how you
- 0:55Speaker 2: feel the boys third time around? You still get nervous?
- 1:00Speaker 3: No, never, never nervous.
- 1:04Speaker 4: I never nervous. But this will be the first time
- 1:07Speaker 4: that we've played all of these new songs live. Actually,
- 1:10Speaker 4: the first time were playing these songs live. It's on
- 1:14Speaker 4: stage with supporting death Bat, so no pressure. That's pretty fun,
- 1:21Speaker 4: to be honest.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Now, you guys are known for this and people off that.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Did you come up with a longer album title than
- 1:29Speaker 2: that guy's?
- 1:30Speaker 3: Like, fuck me, I think the next one will be longer.
- 1:34Speaker 3: I think this one knows that long enough.
- 1:36Speaker 5: Well, you can't even remember it. Sorry, can you get
- 1:39Speaker 5: down to yourself?
- 1:42Speaker 3: I could remember? I could.
- 1:43Speaker 5: I could.
- 1:45Speaker 2: So that's a good more about the album from a
- 1:47Speaker 2: musical point of view, and got you going for with it?
- 1:54Speaker 3: You go first, Elliott?
- 1:56Speaker 4: Okay, thank you? Yeah, I mean what we're going for.
- 2:00Speaker 4: I think it really started with a lot of nineties
- 2:07Speaker 4: video game vio game music, which is like me, Bennett Sam,
- 2:11Speaker 4: when we're kind of writing all the skeletons of the songs,
- 2:14Speaker 4: we were using a lot of that as pretty major influence,
- 2:18Speaker 4: which I don't really know if in the end you
- 2:20Speaker 4: can hear it that much, but it doesn't at all.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I'm going to sound in here any of it.
- 2:28Speaker 1: But yeah, I came across this whole like playlist on
- 2:34Speaker 1: YouTube just the yeah, like nineties Seega video games, and
- 2:40Speaker 1: I just became obsessed with them and just like, yeah,
- 2:45Speaker 1: it was untapped territory. I didn't realize it existed.
- 2:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Inspiration a prequel.
- 2:55Speaker 5: To last year's album of the Rise and Divines of
- 2:57Speaker 5: the Motors People.
- 2:57Speaker 3: So how say, well, this.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Is the story how the Motive People was created, right,
- 3:10Speaker 1: So it starts off with these exultants, which these robot priests, and.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Then they they they've.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Founded this citadel in the mountains, and then in their
- 3:25Speaker 1: dungeon they create the Motive people. But they find Jesus's
- 3:29Speaker 1: long lost twin and he becomes their robot Messiah, and
- 3:37Speaker 1: then they go on this hunt for the real Jesus
- 3:40Speaker 1: Christ and kill him, and then the robot Messiah becomes
- 3:48Speaker 1: the Golden God, who is the driver of the motors steeple.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Right, pretty self explanatory.
- 4:02Speaker 2: We are respectis there's the fact that you've got a
- 4:05Speaker 2: prequel to your last album mean that in effect you
- 4:08Speaker 2: can go backwards as a band.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Yeah, yes, we're regressing. Yeah, we've been falling upwards our
- 4:20Speaker 4: entire career, so that's fine.
- 4:22Speaker 2: But it's a plan from the start to sort of
- 4:25Speaker 2: do the albums like this, or did you just write
- 4:27Speaker 2: the last one that it seemed appropriate to write a prequel.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't think we thought about it too much.
- 4:37Speaker 4: I don't think it wasn't It wasn't the plan in
- 4:40Speaker 4: the beginning, and I think that like the more that
- 4:43Speaker 4: it kind of came to fruition as we were writing it.
- 4:45Speaker 4: I think really like when we when we got into
- 4:47Speaker 4: the studio, I think Sam had probably written like probably
- 4:51Speaker 4: forty percent of the lyrics, and so the Hi.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I already knew there was going to be a prequel,
- 4:58Speaker 3: right right, the story been revealed to me? Yeah, exactly.
- 5:04Speaker 2: It opens with a monologue of Door to the Exultant,
- 5:07Speaker 2: So from what you were just telling me, then that
- 5:09Speaker 2: sort of sets the tone of the album downe and
- 5:11Speaker 2: like it brings you up your speed and tells you
- 5:12Speaker 2: what's going to happen next.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I actually love that. I actually love that intro.
- 5:18Speaker 4: That's very cool, full orchestral arrangement. Yeah, some pretty this album.
- 5:27Speaker 4: But that's.
- 5:30Speaker 5: What did you say? There's some weird stuff on the album.
- 5:34Speaker 4: It's been weird interludes, for sure.
- 5:36Speaker 5: Weird interludes. It sounds about a couple of them.
- 5:43Speaker 4: One with the trumpets, the horns.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Yeah, what's that one called the Moorning God. Yeah. Yeah,
- 5:53Speaker 3: it's like a fan fair.
- 5:56Speaker 5: Where do you come up?
- 5:57Speaker 3: In half?
- 5:57Speaker 2: These titles from like you've guys sit around and like
- 5:59Speaker 2: take much dreams and some titles.
- 6:02Speaker 3: That another's come straight out of my brain.
- 6:07Speaker 5: It's got a lot.
- 6:14Speaker 1: They're already written, already written scripture scripture.
- 6:22Speaker 2: The press release says that the album marks a new
- 6:24Speaker 2: chapter in Battlesnake's ever expanding saga.
- 6:27Speaker 5: So do you agree with that?
- 6:30Speaker 4: Yes?
- 6:31Speaker 3: Yes? Why so?
- 6:34Speaker 6: Uh, well, it's it's just another another story in the
- 6:37Speaker 6: extended universe, the Battle Snake world.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Well it is also history, human history.
- 6:53Speaker 5: Right, just just from a book that a lot of
- 6:55Speaker 5: people haven't read.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Yeah, if we only have access to we're slowly deciphering.
- 7:02Speaker 1: It, covering more and more secrets.
- 7:07Speaker 5: That's be a good, good idea for a future release.
- 7:10Speaker 2: So I released an actual book with it, like it's
- 7:12Speaker 2: a special bonus scene.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a good idea.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:17Speaker 5: So why you paid me the big money boys?
- 7:18Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 7:19Speaker 4: Retaking commission.
- 7:24Speaker 2: To release your self titled full length debut in twenty
- 7:26Speaker 2: twenty three and the Rise of Devises Motus sequl in
- 7:29Speaker 2: twenty four. Now this album with a long titled in
- 7:31Speaker 2: twenty five. So is it something that isn't working towards deliberately?
- 7:35Speaker 2: Do I releasing an album a year or is it
- 7:36Speaker 2: just coincidence?
- 7:40Speaker 4: Oh? For sure, that was totally intentional on at least
- 7:45Speaker 4: on my part. I was like three years ago, I
- 7:47Speaker 4: said I want to write and release an album every year.
- 7:50Speaker 4: But the thing is it's become harder and harder because
- 7:56Speaker 4: the scope of what we're doing is becoming bigger and bigger.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Taking up more and more of your time and less
- 8:03Speaker 5: time to write and ship.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Yeah, to schedule is insane.
- 8:08Speaker 5: Now, Yeah, you guys don't seem to stop.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Every time I'll get a press release your names at
- 8:14Speaker 2: the top of it, you're doing another tour or something.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Yeah, any other way.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Now speaking of live shows, mate, you guys are you're
- 8:25Speaker 2: not content with dominating the Australian music scene. You've actually
- 8:28Speaker 2: about to embark on a massive European in the UK run,
- 8:31Speaker 2: which kicks off on the eighth of June in Hamburg,
- 8:33Speaker 2: finishes on August twelveth and Mariadta I don't even know
- 8:36Speaker 2: where that is, but it sounds cool.
- 8:37Speaker 5: Like that's that's a lot of shows guys like his
- 8:40Speaker 5: match fit.
- 8:43Speaker 3: Nah, we'll go there.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I've been work I've been working out. I've been
- 8:52Speaker 4: working out, trying to get.
- 8:54Speaker 5: Do do any friendly preparation like mentally and physically to
- 8:57Speaker 5: do it.
- 8:57Speaker 2: To all of that or knowing you guys, you just
- 8:59Speaker 2: throw a new preyer jocks on and get on the
- 9:01Speaker 2: plane and go.
- 9:02Speaker 4: Oh. I mean the guys been been practicing, been rehearsing, heaps,
- 9:08Speaker 4: But yeah, there's there's only so much you can do
- 9:11Speaker 4: to prepare yourself for something as big as this. You
- 9:15Speaker 4: really just have to start it and then all the
- 9:18Speaker 4: anxiety will disappear. It's two and a half months.
- 9:21Speaker 5: It's ridiculous.
- 9:23Speaker 4: It's so dumb and not a big band. So what
- 9:28Speaker 4: are we doing.
- 9:32Speaker 5: In your life? Show before?
- 9:33Speaker 2: Guys and anyone else has seen it, Like it's not
- 9:36Speaker 2: a stand and deliver type show.
- 9:37Speaker 5: Like you guys are energetic and you're out there.
- 9:39Speaker 2: So with so many shows over there, have you had
- 9:42Speaker 2: to scale things back a bit just to survive?
- 9:44Speaker 5: Or are you going to go all out every night?
- 9:46Speaker 4: No? No more is more?
- 9:52Speaker 5: You just look after one show though.
- 9:55Speaker 4: My mom did make new costumes for us. So the
- 9:59Speaker 4: costumes a fresh.
- 10:01Speaker 2: So the same or the same? Were they different costumes
- 10:04Speaker 2: or just fresh old ones?
- 10:05Speaker 4: Same design? But yeah, that they're fresh because you don't
- 10:10Speaker 4: want to be near those old ones.
- 10:15Speaker 2: That rains a good point like a lot of bands
- 10:16Speaker 2: like that do wear outfits like you guys do. Like
- 10:19Speaker 2: every album sitele they like to change them up a bit,
- 10:21Speaker 2: but you guys are pretty much stayed, stay firm to
- 10:24Speaker 2: what you started with, Like is there reason behind it.
- 10:28Speaker 4: That's because we're releasing an album every fucking year, are
- 10:32Speaker 4: you mom?
- 10:32Speaker 5: So that quick?
- 10:35Speaker 4: Literally? Literally? Yeah, that's it's like the well, not the
- 10:40Speaker 4: only reason, but I still feel like we're in the
- 10:43Speaker 4: same kind of era songwriting wise, so it kind of
- 10:47Speaker 4: makes sense to be in the same costumes.
- 10:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Well, you play at festivals like Download, Paper Hell and
- 10:55Speaker 2: Rock with People, as well as your own headline shows.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Some co headline shows with the Death had some sports
- 11:01Speaker 2: with Eagles and Death Metals, So out of each of
- 11:03Speaker 2: those blocks, which one are you more excited about doing?
- 11:08Speaker 3: The festivals?
- 11:09Speaker 1: I think yeah, it's our first, I mean the whole thing,
- 11:14Speaker 1: but that, Yeah, this will be our first like.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Festival run.
- 11:19Speaker 5: Yeah, right, like.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Proper, proper European summer festival run. So pretty excited for that.
- 11:26Speaker 5: Yeah, what about you, brother?
- 11:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's on that, isn't it every on
- 11:31Speaker 4: every metal bands bucket list, to play down the UK,
- 11:35Speaker 4: to play rock for people in the trip or public,
- 11:40Speaker 4: to play Mad Cool in Spain, to play you know,
- 11:44Speaker 4: so many bucket list items for us on this one tour.
- 11:49Speaker 4: It's yeah, I think that for sure. Just because of that,
- 11:51Speaker 4: it's the most excited for the festivals, but I mean Eagles,
- 11:55Speaker 4: the Death Metals starting death Metal is.
- 11:59Speaker 5: Yeah, they're not gonna know what hit him with those fuggers.
- 12:06Speaker 4: I don't think they know who they booked.
- 12:09Speaker 5: Yeah, someone from that side of the world stumbles upon
- 12:13Speaker 5: this interview and they're hearing about Battlestake for the first time,
- 12:15Speaker 5: like run us through a typical live show from you guys,
- 12:18Speaker 5: and why they should come and watch you.
- 12:21Speaker 7: God Sam, explosions and crazy stuff and road.
- 12:35Speaker 4: Sounds like this new this new move, this new stage
- 12:38Speaker 4: move recently that he just won't stop doing, which is
- 12:40Speaker 4: this jump. Yeah, like the split split from the air.
- 12:47Speaker 4: It's quite impressive. So if you see that one.
- 12:49Speaker 5: For us now saying get up, do this one for
- 12:51Speaker 5: us now, couch.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Yeah, do it' my bad. I'll see You're gonna have to.
- 13:01Speaker 5: Talk while you do it. So the camera comes on YouTube.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Bro, Okay you ready, yep, I'm me he said it.
- 13:11Speaker 5: That was that almost made my heart stuff. That was sensation.
- 13:17Speaker 4: You really did a good job of selling our show there, Sam,
- 13:21Speaker 4: well done.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Thanks Elliott spoke to you.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I've introduced a new segment called photo Bomb, So basically
- 13:30Speaker 2: I've trolled through your social media and I've come up
- 13:32Speaker 2: with a few photos that I.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Wanted to tell me a little bit more about. So
- 13:36Speaker 5: the first one I've found is this.
- 13:39Speaker 2: One, like, nobody on the side there looks too keen
- 13:42Speaker 2: to tap in on this one.
- 13:43Speaker 5: Mate.
- 13:45Speaker 1: So we're on tour this smashing Pumpkins and Jan's Addiction
- 13:49Speaker 1: and Animal the Stiffers and Red Hook, and then Billy
- 13:53Speaker 1: Corkan has his own wrestling company and we became friends
- 13:57Speaker 1: with this one of his wrestlers thrilled Billy, and then
- 14:03Speaker 1: we slowly organized with him to get in the ring
- 14:06Speaker 1: with him one night, and Billy was really keen to
- 14:10Speaker 1: get smashed on the ground by him. So yeah, we
- 14:14Speaker 1: had this whole choreographed thing where we all ran out
- 14:19Speaker 1: and Billy jumped in the ring and he picks up
- 14:21Speaker 1: Billy and smashes him onto the ground, and we're all like, ah,
- 14:25Speaker 1: fuck Billy, but that was awesome.
- 14:29Speaker 5: Then it looks like you're about to get pubbled.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Did you get.
- 14:39Speaker 3: He did get pumbled?
- 14:45Speaker 5: The second fighter got done.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Second Fighter like, you guys are pretty well known for
- 14:50Speaker 2: getting you here up on stage.
- 14:51Speaker 5: But you know it's gonna be a lot older over
- 14:53Speaker 5: there already said, are you a little bit afraid of
- 14:56Speaker 5: my get embarrassing.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Yeah, never embarrassing, not even in the cold. Well, so
- 15:04Speaker 3: we're going to summer over there.
- 15:06Speaker 5: Yeah, but it's still fucking older than here.
- 15:10Speaker 4: Got nothing's got nothing to be worried about.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Yeah, you're saying, I've already got a small pitnace.
- 15:21Speaker 5: You've been doing it as long as I've known you.
- 15:23Speaker 5: Is like, where did it? Where did it first come from?
- 15:25Speaker 3: Where did what first come from?
- 15:26Speaker 5: They're getting you rigged out on stage.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Uh, because it's hot up there. It's just hot and
- 15:34Speaker 4: and it's hot. And then we got the robes. And
- 15:37Speaker 4: the robes also don't breathe at all. They're like made
- 15:40Speaker 4: of plastic basically, so we have to take them off
- 15:43Speaker 4: sometimes too.
- 15:48Speaker 5: All right, guys, well, thanks very much for your time.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Best of Black Overseas of the album, Dawn of the
- 15:53Speaker 2: Exultants and The Hunt of the Shepherd comes out this
- 15:56Speaker 2: Friday during the sixth The Chalk kicks off on Tune

- 16:01Speaker 2: with what you're doing? And then you get your.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Album, Instagram, Spot five, facetbook, all those all those things.
- 16:13Speaker 4: Yeah, wait, all.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Right, gentlemen, I want to enjoy yourselves over there, don't
- 16:16Speaker 2: get arrested, and we'll see you on the other side.
