- Lucas: Luna, ready for another episode? Luna: Yeah! I've been practicing those gym phrases from last time. Lucas: That's great. Today we're going to build on that and actually book a class at the gym. Luna: Oh perfect. I've been wanting to try a yoga class at my gym. Lucas: Let's start with the most important phrase: Ich möchte einen Kurs buchen. That means 'I would like to book a class.' Luna: Ich möchte einen Kurs buchen. Lucas: Exactly. Try saying it a bit slower: Ich möchte einen Kurs buchen. Luna: Ich möchte einen Kurs buchen. I love how that sounds. Lucas: Now, if you want to ask when the next class is, you say: Wann ist der nächste Kurs? Luna: Wann ist der nächste Kurs? That's 'when is the next class?' right? Lucas: Exactly. Wann ist der nächste Kurs? Luna: Wann ist der nächste Kurs? Okay, I think I've got that. Lucas: Let's practice a mini conversation. I'll be the receptionist. Luna: Okay. Lucas: Guten Tag, kann ich Ihnen helfen? Luna: Ja, ich möchte einen Kurs buchen. Lucas: Sehr gut. Wann ist der nächste Kurs? Luna: Wann ist der nächste Kurs? Oh wait, that's my line, isn't it? Lucas: Right. You ask me: Wann ist der nächste Kurs? Luna: Wann ist der nächste Kurs? Lucas: Der nächste Kurs ist um zehn Uhr. Luna: And then I might want to know the price. How do I ask that? Lucas: You can say: Der Kurs kostet 10 Euro. That means 'the class costs 10 euros.' Luna: Der Kurs kostet 10 Euro. So if I want to say it costs 15, it's Der Kurs kostet 15 Euro? Lucas: Exactly. Der Kurs kostet 15 Euro. Luna: Got it. Lucas: Now, after you've decided, you want to sign up. You say: Ich möchte mich anmelden. That means 'I would like to register.' Luna: Ich möchte mich anmelden. That's a bit longer. Lucas: Break it down: Ich möchte mich anmelden. Try it. Luna: Ich möchte mich anmelden. Lucas: Perfect. And if you want to ask if they have a class on Monday, you say: Haben Sie einen Kurs am Montag? Luna: Haben Sie einen Kurs am Montag? That's 'do you have a class on Monday?' Lucas: Exactly. Haben Sie einen Kurs am Montag? Luna: Haben Sie einen Kurs am Montag? Okay, I think I can handle that. Lucas: Let's do another mini conversation. I'm the receptionist. Luna: Okay. Luna: Der Kurs kostet 10 Euro? Lucas: Ja, genau. Luna: Ich möchte mich anmelden. Lucas: Sehr gut, Sie sind angemeldet. Luna: Wow, that felt really natural. I can actually use this. Lucas: Absolutely. And you know, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with German, a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going — buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, if you've gotten something out of them. Luna: Yeah, it's a small thing that makes a big difference for the show. Lucas: So let's quickly review all the phrases we learned today. Luna: Ich möchte einen Kurs buchen. Lucas: Wann ist der nächste Kurs? Luna: Der Kurs kostet 10 Euro. Lucas: Ich möchte mich anmelden. Luna: Haben Sie einen Kurs am Montag? Lucas: Perfect. Now try saying them all one more time slowly. Luna: Ich möchte einen Kurs buchen. Wann ist der nächste Kurs? Der Kurs kostet 10 Euro. Ich möchte mich anmelden. Haben Sie einen Kurs am Montag? Lucas: You did it. Keep practicing these, and next time you'll be ready to book any class. Luna: Thanks Lucas. See you next time! Lucas: Bis bald!
