Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: And to talk us through his highs and lows of
- 0:02Speaker 1: the weekend in Sport. Elliott Smith is with.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Us morning morning.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Good weekend for the Warriors.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Very good and I think this will give him a
- 0:09Speaker 2: lot of confidence. I mean, when was the last time
- 0:11Speaker 2: you saw a team taker penalty shot at goal in
- 0:14Speaker 2: rugby league from fifty meters out lid alone and golden
- 0:17Speaker 2: It was a very odd game. The Warriors had it
- 0:19Speaker 2: in control in the end. I don't know whether it
- 0:22Speaker 2: was the conditions, but the Broncos sort of came back
- 0:25Speaker 2: into it right at the end, sent it to golden
- 0:26Speaker 2: point and then dear old Reese Walsho obviously left. The
- 0:29Speaker 2: Warriors makes the era from the kickoff and Luke Metcalf,
- 0:33Speaker 2: who had been shopping off the tee, comes in. Now
- 0:35Speaker 2: is it from fifty meters? You don't really see that
- 0:37Speaker 2: in rugby league ever, but it kind of when that,
- 0:40Speaker 2: you know, on the back of that poor game against
- 0:42Speaker 2: the Storm last week, might just give the Warriors a
- 0:44Speaker 2: little bit of confidence. Or in christ Church this week
- 0:47Speaker 2: for the anzact day game, so quick, quish turn around,
- 0:50Speaker 2: but the Nights are certainly beatable and hopefully this will
- 0:52Speaker 2: swing the Warriors back into the winning ways.
- 0:54Speaker 1: He is a special game, the Anzact game. Who are
- 0:56Speaker 1: they playing?
- 0:57Speaker 2: News? Yeah, so they've changed it around. So I've got
- 0:59Speaker 2: a home game. It's in christ It sold out weeks ago.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Should be a pretty special occasions.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Now a lot of super rugby taking place over the weekend. Geez,
- 1:05Speaker 1: my heart bled for Mina Pacifica because they've been playing
- 1:08Speaker 1: so well and with such heart, and it wasn't a
- 1:10Speaker 1: great game against it.
- 1:11Speaker 2: It was terrible commentated this game actually, and it was
- 1:14Speaker 2: nil with forty minutes on the clock and it was
- 1:17Speaker 2: five and a half time and then Maida just couldn't
- 1:19Speaker 2: get into the game. And they clearly missed Ardie Savia,
- 1:22Speaker 2: which shows how big his impact has been. But also
- 1:25Speaker 2: when he's not in the team he was on rest
- 1:27Speaker 2: on the weekend, how much they still struggle without him,
- 1:30Speaker 2: and they just didn't have it defensively, didn't have it
- 1:32Speaker 2: on attack. And now you know they're on the outside
- 1:36Speaker 2: looking in, as are the Blues, as other Hurricanes trying
- 1:38Speaker 2: to chase these playoff spots and Super Rugby that are
- 1:41Speaker 2: whittling down by the week. It's becoming very very tight
- 1:43Speaker 2: this race, and you can't really afford to drop too
- 1:45Speaker 2: many points and unfortunately for Mowana they did in the weekend.
- 1:48Speaker 2: They've got a drewer this weekend back at home at
- 1:50Speaker 2: North Harbor Stadium. That's now really a must win for them,
- 1:54Speaker 2: but there's a lot of ground that sees teams still
- 1:56Speaker 2: have to make up the Force and Hurricanes. They drew
- 1:59Speaker 2: both teams and the playoff mix the Blues obviously losing
- 2:01Speaker 2: to the Crusaders on Good Friday.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So it's a depressing start to Easter.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Well not so much for our Canterbury list as I'm sure,
- 2:07Speaker 2: but for you, yeah obviously. And yeah, look, I think
- 2:12Speaker 2: it's really really tight and in super rugby, which is
- 2:15Speaker 2: what we want going into these last few weeks of
- 2:16Speaker 2: the seasons.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Of course Checks did well against the very.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Good Yeah, came back really well after a pool couple
- 2:22Speaker 2: of weeks with have kind of just looked a little
- 2:24Speaker 2: bit off that lost to the Waratas just swept the Highlanders.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I love the way you walk in here without any notes,
- 2:28Speaker 1: but you seem to have the rugby schedule in your
- 2:30Speaker 1: head with the person I know I need to text on. Hey, look,
- 2:32Speaker 1: let's touch briefly on the Formula one. Liam Lawson not
- 2:36Speaker 1: quite in the points yet, but good to see him
- 2:38Speaker 1: sort of steadying.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so. And look, it was such as
- 2:42Speaker 2: shock to the system. I'm sure he would have been
- 2:44Speaker 2: expecting that full season and Red Bull. Now he has
- 2:46Speaker 2: and it's kind of the mindset shift and it's going
- 2:48Speaker 2: to take him a few races to go. Actually, I'm
- 2:50Speaker 2: back in racing bulls. I've got to start from behind
- 2:54Speaker 2: on the grid because that's the nature of you being
- 2:56Speaker 2: in the development team. So look, you top that time
- 2:59Speaker 2: penalty day and then their race they should have been
- 3:01Speaker 2: probably eleventh finished and twelfth. But I don't know. I
- 3:04Speaker 2: think there's some positive signs there the building and maybe
- 3:06Speaker 2: just some time out of the spotlight in terms of
- 3:08Speaker 2: the international spotlight might actually be good for him. Hopefully
- 3:12Speaker 2: he can just you know, now the spotlight's gone and
- 3:15Speaker 2: it's now on Yuki Snoda and everyone else, and the
- 3:18Speaker 2: way the McLaren's going up the top of the grid
- 3:20Speaker 2: and the standings, maybe just some time out of the
- 3:22Speaker 2: spotlight for Liam Wilson might be a good thing.
- 3:23Speaker 1: I think so too. Just leave him alone and.
- 3:25Speaker 2: It's right doing it as well.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Thank you so much, Elliott, appreciate your time this morning.
