- 0:00Welcome back to Fostering Faith. I'm gonna be
- 0:02your host Tracie and we are in episode 3 of April
- 0:06and we hope that you guys are having a great
- 0:09week and the series or the topic today is gonna
- 0:13be standing firm when life gets hard and as we
- 0:16are recording this podcast as I am actually sitting
- 0:20in a hospital parking lot because my dad had
- 0:23fallen asleep he has recently fallen and broken
- 0:26his hip and so we are encouraged by the goodness
- 0:30of God and standing firm when a man of God falls
- 0:35and breaks his head and we are just sitting here
- 0:39and just in all of the goodness that he's 85
- 0:42years old and he has had multiple health conditions
- 0:45but he has stand he has stood firm when life
- 0:50gets hard if you have ever met my father he is
- 0:58So just Full of Jesus and just the love of the
- 1:03Lord and is in Scripture and he suffers from
- 1:06chronic pain He can barely walk on a good day
- 1:09He shuffles his feet because he's in so much
- 1:11pain and it really has been Just through so much
- 1:15in his life almost died several times just comes
- 1:18up with the super abnormal Things one in a million
- 1:23people get blood dyscrasias a cold intolerant
- 1:27auto anemia Does he's had a lot going on in his
- 1:30life and if anything he has taught me to stand
- 1:33firm when life gets hard and We were talking
- 1:36about it as we I was listening to a podcast one
- 1:39day because I was just trying to Run and just
- 1:42clear my head and I just left the hospital and
- 1:44just had a few hours just to get things done
- 1:46at home to come back to the hospital and we were
- 1:50I had listened to a sermon about the thorn in
- 1:54Paul's side and The sermon had talked about how
- 1:58the thorn was not talking about like a roast
- 2:01or it was talking about like a nail and That's
- 2:04what my dad literally just had put it in his
- 2:06head and the sermon went on to go to teach an
- 2:10acronym of thorn and It was like you have to
- 2:14be teachable. You have to be humble. You have
- 2:16to be obedient You have to be like resilient
- 2:19and just just keep coming after my repetition
- 2:22and it was I forgot what the N stood for. Noble,
- 2:28maybe? I don't know. But I was talking about
- 2:30Job, and I was like, you know what, Dad? I said,
- 2:33you're like a lifetime of Job. He doesn't have
- 2:36a crazy wife, but he has had friends that potentially
- 2:40have left him. As you get older, your friends
- 2:42pass away, and people leave you. And he's just
- 2:45stayed so faithful. And so potentially dedicating
- 2:47this episode to my dad. As I record this and
- 2:51so standing firm where life gets hard. There
- 2:54are seasons in life when everything feels harder
- 2:55than it should. It feels heavier. The days feel
- 2:58longer. The stress feels sharper. The image feels
- 3:01louder and whenever you become spiritual battle
- 3:03and emotional pressure and everyday. Responsibilities
- 3:07you start feeling like you're standing in a storm
- 3:11with no umbrella and there's and here's the truth.
- 3:14Followers of Jesus don't remove the bad season.
- 3:17It gives you strength in them and so standing
- 3:19firm is not passive. It's not empathetic. It's
- 3:22not weak. It's not folding your arms and hoping
- 3:24things magically get better. Standing firm is
- 3:27spiritual warfare under pressure. Standing firm
- 3:29is faith when the ground is shaking. Standing
- 3:31firm is choosing stability when your emotions
- 3:34scream instability. Standing firm is refusing
- 3:37to let the storm to find you. Standing firm is
- 3:40rooting yourself in Christ when everything shifts.
- 3:42In this episode is. for believers who's not been,
- 3:47who's been tired, discouraged, overwhelmed, or
- 3:50seriously stretched because God doesn't just
- 3:53want you to survive hard seasons. He wants you
- 3:56to stand firm. And it's funny about standing
- 3:58firm because as he is recovering from this hip
- 4:00surgery and he can only have 25 % on the leg
- 4:04that was affected. And it's about how he has
- 4:07to stand firm on his right leg. And he's so crooked
- 4:12to begin with. And so when you have to stand
- 4:14firm, dad, you have to stand up strong on that.
- 4:16Like I can't, he would say, I can't. And I said,
- 4:19I can't is gonna get you in a nursing home, but
- 4:21the only options that you have are I will and
- 4:24I can. And so I wrote it like really big on this
- 4:26piece of paper and I was like, so what is our
- 4:28choices? And he would begrudgingly say, I can
- 4:31and I will. And I said, exactly, I can and I
- 4:34will. And we're not doing it on our strength,
- 4:36we're doing on his strength. And so whenever
- 4:37we stand up, we say thank you. Whenever we have
- 4:39a pain, we say thank you. Because he's given
- 4:42this opportunity to just be and draw closer to
- 4:45him. And I said, so stand firm, stand tall. And
- 4:49I'm like, you have your shoes on, you have your
- 4:51cleats on, because this is going to be a war.
- 4:53And so we have our shoes of peace and we are
- 4:56standing firm. And when life gets heavy, you're
- 4:59not feeling. One of the biggest lies the enemy
- 5:01whispers is you shouldn't feel this way. You're
- 5:04not strong enough. Real Christians won't struggle
- 5:06like this. You must be doing something wrong.
- 5:10But scripture never promises an easy life. It
- 5:12promises a sustained life. And so David had caves
- 5:17and enemies. Elijah had fear and burnout. Job
- 5:20had loss and grief. Paul had shipwrecks and prison
- 5:23and suffering. And Jesus had his enemy. before
- 5:27the resurrection. Hard seasons are not evidence
- 5:30of weak faith. Hard seasons are where faith grows.
- 5:35And Jesus never said, avoid the storms. He said,
- 5:38build your house on the rock so you can stand
- 5:40through the storm. And we were actually going
- 5:43through that in class with the kids right now.
- 5:45You have two paths. You have two foundations.
- 5:47You have the narrow road. You have a wide road.
- 5:49You have this foundation and you have the other
- 5:51foundation. And so standing firm doesn't mean
- 5:53the storm disappears. It means a storm doesn't
- 5:56take you out. Why hard seasons hit so hard? Because
- 6:00that spiritually exposes you, your identity,
- 6:03your trust, your emotional resilience, your spiritual
- 6:06habits, your areas of fear, your expectations,
- 6:08your endurance, and your dependence on God. Pressure
- 6:12reveals what comfort conceals. And sometimes
- 6:15God allows pressure not to break you, but to
- 6:18build you. Storms don't shake things that aren't
- 6:21meant to fall. Storms reveal what's not anchored
- 6:24yet. And even hard seasons carry one invitation.
- 6:28Let me be. your stability. Standing firm, what
- 6:31scripture actually teaches, the Bible teaches
- 6:34more about standing firm than almost any other
- 6:37spiritual's posture. And here's a big one. Stand
- 6:40firm in your faith. Stand firm in your faith
- 6:42and be courageous and be strong in 1 Corinthians
- 6:4416 13. That means don't negotiate your belief
- 6:48because you're of your pressure. Don't shrink
- 6:50back because God feels quiet. Don't let feelings
- 6:53redefine truth. Feeling faith is not a feeling.
- 6:57It's a decision. And standing firm in freedom.
- 7:01Stand firm and then do not let yourselves be
- 7:04burdened again in Galatians 5 .1. Sometimes the
- 7:07battle is not new. It's old bondage trying to
- 7:09return. Standing firm means you don't go backwards.
- 7:13You don't return to what God freed you from.
- 7:17You don't go back to Israel. You don't go back
- 7:19to Egypt. You know, not the Israel thing. That's
- 7:23funny. Don't accept old chains as an identity.
- 7:27Three. Stand firm in grace. Through whom we have
- 7:32gained access and faith, we stand in grace in
- 7:35Romans 5 2. Grace is your footing when you feel
- 7:38unworthy. Standing firm means that you don't
- 7:40accept condemnation. You don't drown in guilt.
- 7:45You don't believe shame's lies. You don't try
- 7:48to earn what God already gave. Grace is not a
- 7:52crutch. It's a solid ground. 4. Stand firm in
- 7:56the truth. Stand firm with the belt of truth
- 7:58buckled around your waist. Ephesians 6 14. Truth
- 8:02stabilizes your mind when the lies try to shake
- 8:04you. Standing firm means that you choose truth
- 8:08over emotion. You choose scripture over faith.
- 8:11You choose God's word over the enemy's whisper.
- 8:14Truth is anchored in scripture. Truth is your
- 8:18anchor. And that goes back to my tattoo. If you
- 8:20guys have heard this, I really do want a little
- 8:22tiny boat with an anchor to it. And then how
- 8:26does your enemy attack you in hard seasons? The
- 8:28enemy rarely attacks your circumstance first.
- 8:31He attacks your stability. And you'll see this
- 8:34in three different ways. One, distraction. Everything
- 8:36feels urgent except God. Two, discouragement.
- 8:40You feel defeated before you even begin. Three,
- 8:45doubt. You question what God said, what God he
- 8:49promised, and what he is doing. If the enemy
- 8:51can't destroy you, he will try to destabilize
- 8:54you. But scripture says, do not be shaken. Do
- 8:58not be moved. Stand fast. Be steadfast. Hold
- 9:02your ground. Why? Because the battle is won when
- 9:06the believer refuses to bow to pressure. And
- 9:10what standing firm looks like in real life. This
- 9:12part matters because standing firm is not one
- 9:14big heroic movement. It's small faithful decisions
- 9:17over and over. And this is what it looks like
- 9:20showing up to church whenever you're tired. Opening
- 9:23your Bible whatever your emotions say later.
- 9:26Praying even whatever you're not sure what to
- 9:29say. Refusing to spiral whatever fear rises.
- 9:33Worshipping when discouragement hits. Staying
- 9:37planted in community instead of isolating. Protecting
- 9:39your mind when anxiety presses. Speaking truth
- 9:43over yourself when lies get loud. Choosing obedience
- 9:46when it's inconvenient. Not quitting whenever
- 9:49you feel worn out. Faith isn't loud. Consistency
- 9:53is loud. Standing firm is not glamorous, but
- 9:55is powerful. And consistency is what crushes
- 9:58the enemy's strategy. And God promises strength
- 10:02in the hard seasons. And one of the most repeated
- 10:05promises in scripture is saying, I will strengthen
- 10:08you. Not I might, or I hope you figure it out,
- 10:13or good luck, or try harder. God says, I will
- 10:17strengthen you. I will hold you up. I will carry
- 10:20you, I will protect you, I will sustain you,
- 10:23Isaiah 40, 10. And so as you're hearing this
- 10:27in 2026, my message last year was from Isaiah
- 10:3140, 31. And so standing firm does not come from
- 10:35your strength, it comes from his strength. Your
- 10:38strength runs out, his does not. Your emotions
- 10:40fluctuate, his faithfulness does not. The energy
- 10:44drain, your energy will drain, but his will not.
- 10:47Your heart wavers. His character does not. You
- 10:50are not standing firm alone. You're standing
- 10:53in the firm supported by heaven. And the secret
- 10:57to standing firm is that your root deeper, not
- 11:02stronger. Your root deeper and not stronger.
- 11:05And so when the storm comes, the trees with shallow
- 11:07roots will fall. But the trees with deep roots
- 11:12stand. Strength doesn't come from the size of
- 11:15the tree. It comes from the depths of the root.
- 11:16And standing firm means your root is deeper in
- 11:20prayer, your root deeper in worship, your root
- 11:23deeper in Scripture, your root deeper in community,
- 11:26your root deeper in the presence of God. And
- 11:28deep roots prevent spiritual collapse. God is
- 11:32not asking you to be unshakable personality.
- 11:35He's asking you to have unshakable connection.
- 11:38Your stability is not based on your temperament.
- 11:39It is based on your attachment to Christ. And
- 11:43so in your workbook this week, as we encourage
- 11:45you to go to Fostering Faith website, Fostering
- 11:47Faith Media, and look out for the workbooks that
- 11:49we have put together. And so in week three, the
- 11:52workbook page is, where am I struggling to stand
- 11:55firm right now? Is it your faith? Your thoughts?
- 11:59Your peace? Relationships? Consistency? Focus?
- 12:04Trust? Identity? Write it and be honest. And
- 12:09God will strengthen what you surrender. And so
- 12:13what is one practical step that you can take
- 12:16this week to stand firm in the area that God
- 12:19has highlighted? Setting a prayer alarm. Speaking
- 12:22scripture over your storm. Replacing one thought
- 12:25with the truth. Reaching out when someone is
- 12:28isolating. Getting back into the word. Worshipping
- 12:31in the morning. A social media fast. Declaring
- 12:34truth out loud. Standing firm happens one obedient
- 12:38step at a time. A marathon can be one. One step
- 12:43at a time. One step at a time. One step at a
- 12:46time. And so those little steps equal huge goals
- 12:50and aspirations. And so not getting overwhelmed
- 12:53by this, but just one step over time. And so
- 12:57we hope this message encouraged you, as we ourselves
- 13:00cannot talk about something that we are not going
- 13:02through. And so hard times are gonna hit. People
- 13:05are gonna fall. Things are gonna break. People
- 13:06are gonna have surgeries. Things are gonna be
- 13:08diagnosed. And we have got to be rooted in the
- 13:12storm. He has got to be our anchor. And so, we
- 13:15would love to pray for you this week. If this
- 13:17message encouraged you, send it to a friend that's
- 13:19going through a tough time. Print out these workbooks.
- 13:21Leave us a message. Leave us a comment. Share
- 13:23it with a friend. And we would love to pray for
- 13:24you. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you so much
