- 0:01Speaker 1: Hello, sir.
- 0:02Speaker 2: How are you?
- 0:04Speaker 1: I am fine? How are you?
- 0:06Speaker 2: Not too bad?
- 0:07Speaker 3: Man?
- 0:07Speaker 4: Not too bad for a stormy Wednesday morning, Thursday morning.
- 0:13Speaker 4: I don't even know what date it is anymore.
- 0:14Speaker 3: But it's I think it's Wednesday. It's just no, it's
- 0:21Speaker 3: still Tuesday here. It's around eleven o'clock in the night here.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Oh man, that's right, because you're yesterday.
- 0:27Speaker 1: That's right.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Ah man, Yeah, it's confusing, it is, certainly.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Where in Australia are you from.
- 0:34Speaker 4: I'm on the Gold Coast, which is just south of Brisbane. Okay, yeah, good, yeah, yeah,
- 0:41Speaker 4: not too far, not too far.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Have you been to the Gold Coast well? And you've
- 0:44Speaker 2: been to Brisbane tons of times?
- 0:46Speaker 1: Yes?
- 0:47Speaker 3: Absolutely, yeah, nice, many times, have many friends there, and.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I love it.
- 0:55Speaker 3: I mean especially the temperature, you know, like coming from Norway,
- 1:00Speaker 3: oh damn. And so I don't mind a little, you know,
- 1:06Speaker 3: even if it gets too hot for you guys, I
- 1:08Speaker 3: mean for me in and out real quick for a
- 1:11Speaker 3: week or something. It's just that's okay, yeah, yeah, but
- 1:15Speaker 3: I feel you guys. You know, if it gets too hot,
- 1:17Speaker 3: you know, that's also bad. It gets too cold here,
- 1:20Speaker 3: that's bad, you know. So it's it's always bad if
- 1:23Speaker 3: it's it's if it's extreme anyways, but no, I like it.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I also, yeah, I have friends there. So also I
- 1:35Speaker 3: stayed behind us for a couple of tours on with
- 1:38Speaker 3: vacation myself just to hang around.
- 1:43Speaker 2: And yeah, yeah, awesome, awesome man. Well we can't wait
- 1:48Speaker 2: to see Dan here again.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Made him coming back for the fortieth anniversary, which is awesome.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I saw you in Brisbane last time with was.
- 1:57Speaker 1: It ware Wolves?
- 1:58Speaker 2: And also all right, I think I think it was yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 2: not a real good night that night too good that
- 2:08Speaker 2: it ended up being. How was that?
- 2:11Speaker 3: Yeah, No, that was great. I mean I think when
- 2:14Speaker 3: we did that, that was our most successful tour in
- 2:21Speaker 3: Australia that far, you know, like or you know, also
- 2:32Speaker 3: how many people come to see the shelves, you know,
- 2:36Speaker 3: So the promoters were very happy. I remember that, so
- 2:41Speaker 3: of course we were very happy about it too. So
- 2:44Speaker 3: that's I mean almost it's it's a hell of a
- 2:50Speaker 3: logistic thing to put together a tour and come all
- 2:55Speaker 3: the way down Under. So it feels like an achievement.
- 3:00Speaker 3: When I passed through the immigration and customs, it feels
- 3:07Speaker 3: like I already took Gold Model medal. You know, like
- 3:12Speaker 3: arriving in Australia, it's it's a great feeling. And this
- 3:17Speaker 3: is going to be our sixth time or something altogether
- 3:20Speaker 3: for since we started touring early two thousand and so.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I just.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I mean super stoked to come back every time and
- 3:33Speaker 3: super stoked to come back this time too.
- 3:35Speaker 1: This time, we we.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Had to come up with something for our four year anniversary,
- 3:45Speaker 3: something special, you know, and and then it came up
- 3:49Speaker 3: with this concept that to include something from all all
- 3:55Speaker 3: our releases, demos, EPs, albums, and then to able to
- 4:04Speaker 3: do that like we have I think we have two
- 4:08Speaker 3: songs from everything. And then that came down to a
- 4:13Speaker 3: little bit over two hours or something. Wow, so we
- 4:16Speaker 3: had to kept it there. But that's the longest show
- 4:22Speaker 3: we ever did. We never set up as long performance ever.
- 4:28Speaker 3: And we also made a video for the whole thing.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Some of them videos are also synchronized when with the
- 4:42Speaker 3: actual playing and one of the videos that are synchronized
- 4:46Speaker 3: are we Bring back Dead from the famous Live in
- 4:52Speaker 3: Leipzig album from nineteen ninety, so we separated out his
- 4:57Speaker 3: voice and we are performing Funeral Fog with Dead on vocals,
- 5:03Speaker 3: which I think when I heard it the first time
- 5:07Speaker 3: in the rehearsal place when we were setting up, I
- 5:13Speaker 3: just thought myself, like, fuck, the fans are gonna fucking
- 5:16Speaker 3: love this.
- 5:17Speaker 1: This is I mean, that was that was really something special.
- 5:24Speaker 3: And and then we have a high.
- 5:30Speaker 1: What we call it.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Resolution screen that we have hired in for the thing
- 5:40Speaker 3: to get the most optimal call the day of the
- 5:47Speaker 3: movie also, so it's it's we are very happy with
- 5:54Speaker 3: everything how it turned out. And so it's and we
- 6:01Speaker 3: have done a little touring Europe and a couple of
- 6:03Speaker 3: shows in Norway to test it out and did some festivals.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Worked out really really well. So so very stoked that
- 6:16Speaker 3: we can bring this whole production down and and do
- 6:20Speaker 3: it for you and down Under.
- 6:23Speaker 4: We are very lucky because it's because we are so
- 6:26Speaker 4: fucking fard. We're on the ass end of the world
- 6:28Speaker 4: here mate.
- 6:29Speaker 2: As you know, we are very far away.
- 6:31Speaker 4: We don't get those full productions stuff like that. It's
- 6:37Speaker 4: we kind of get skimmed on that because we're so
- 6:40Speaker 4: far so much money. So I think, yeah, you're right, man,
- 6:43Speaker 4: we are very very lucky and it's going to be
- 6:45Speaker 4: something incredible to witness.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Uh.
- 6:48Speaker 4: But you know, obviously being in Australia, you know, it's
- 6:51Speaker 4: sunny beaches and all that kind of kangaroos and stuff, But.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I don't know, there's something about it.
- 6:59Speaker 4: It's like, you know, the dark, brutal music and yeah,
- 7:05Speaker 4: sunny beaches and Australia and stuff. What is it that
- 7:09Speaker 4: connects us with you guys being there is that contrast?
- 7:14Speaker 3: And maybe that's exactly what you're touching in on because
- 7:17Speaker 3: like everything which is extreme is you know, you have
- 7:22Speaker 3: the extreme heat, you know, and maybe not so much
- 7:28Speaker 3: up in in Brisbane.
- 7:30Speaker 1: But I feel yeah, well yeah it.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Gets sometimes really fucking hot, and then you're in the
- 7:38Speaker 3: you're prisoner of the weathers, yes, and then the same
- 7:42Speaker 3: thing here we are also kind of the winter is extreme.
- 7:50Speaker 3: So maybe because it's the same feeling, it's you know,
- 7:56Speaker 3: like I guess, so maybe maybe that's that's it. That's
- 8:01Speaker 3: the that's the connection that you guys subconsciously know about
- 8:07Speaker 3: the pain and what kind of art comes out of
- 8:11Speaker 3: pain and suffering, you know. So I mean when we
- 8:15Speaker 3: were freezing our ass off and making this uh this
- 8:19Speaker 3: dark and and and and.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Yeah let's call it dark music, Well.
- 8:29Speaker 3: You guys were you know, sweating it out without air
- 8:33Speaker 3: condition in the in the garage, you know, and then
- 8:35Speaker 3: then the hammering it out on some death metal ish stuff.
- 8:41Speaker 3: You know, Like it's the same thing in a way. Uh,
- 8:45Speaker 3: you use your negativity in to build to make something,
- 8:56Speaker 3: and that's what we did. Because this is not happy,
- 8:59Speaker 3: happy stuff. No, this is the this is the opposite
- 9:02Speaker 3: of the happy stuff. So that's that's how, you know, Like,
- 9:09Speaker 3: I don't know why it came to be.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Like that, because.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Like I grew up listening to the Rolling Stones, then
- 9:18Speaker 3: progress into motord venom and stuff. But when I plugged
- 9:23Speaker 3: in my instrument and started to make my own songs,
- 9:29Speaker 3: it didn't sound like anything else that. It didn't sound
- 9:33Speaker 3: it wasn't blues, it wasn't rock and roll, it wasn't
- 9:36Speaker 3: heavy metal, and it was this kind of thing that
- 9:39Speaker 3: came out.
- 9:40Speaker 1: So I mean, it's not that's so I guess that
- 9:47Speaker 1: it shows. It shows me, yeah.
- 9:50Speaker 3: This extreme thing, and and I never stared away from
- 9:57Speaker 3: that path, and it almost it was the right thing
- 10:01Speaker 3: to do. And it's still I mean, the more aggressive
- 10:07Speaker 3: the riffs are, the more happier I am, the more
- 10:10Speaker 3: darker and evil it sounds.
- 10:13Speaker 1: You know, you know, I'm still there, So.
- 10:17Speaker 4: I get that, you know, I get into my car
- 10:22Speaker 4: in traffic and I'm blasting some some death.
- 10:25Speaker 5: Man.
- 10:25Speaker 4: I get to work and everyone's like, what what you
- 10:27Speaker 4: so happy?
- 10:28Speaker 1: Man?
- 10:29Speaker 2: It's exactly it's our works.
- 10:33Speaker 3: You know, like h youhat top in the queue when
- 10:37Speaker 3: you're coming into the city line, you know, just roll
- 10:40Speaker 3: up your window and fire up a big fucking split
- 10:44Speaker 3: and just trying to forget about the whole fucking thing.
- 10:46Speaker 1: And then come in to work, you know, happy as
- 10:49Speaker 1: a cat. Yeah. Man, oh well that's the other way
- 10:52Speaker 1: to go, the other way to go way.
- 10:58Speaker 4: But of course you recently on that toe you had
- 11:01Speaker 4: the original drummer and singer and him and Massoia on
- 11:05Speaker 4: the euro run.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that's crazy man, How is.
- 11:08Speaker 3: That these guys?
- 11:12Speaker 1: I mean?
- 11:14Speaker 3: Also, the reason why they could pull it off is
- 11:19Speaker 3: that they started a band together called Order about thirteen
- 11:25Speaker 3: years ago or something, and I had kept it up,
- 11:28Speaker 3: released albums, done shows and stuff. So they have kind
- 11:31Speaker 3: of kept it up, going in the rehearsal place for
- 11:34Speaker 3: themselves there so when and also they played on the
- 11:37Speaker 3: thirty year anniversary, so it's not totally you know, so
- 11:42Speaker 3: they have been they had done stuff with us before,
- 11:46Speaker 3: so but the fact that they were in shape to
- 11:51Speaker 3: be able to do this, you know, coming in like
- 11:55Speaker 3: we are high end, you know, like we we push ourself.
- 12:00Speaker 3: We always have, you know, we have been pushing ourself
- 12:03Speaker 3: like hell the last thirty five years after they quit,
- 12:07Speaker 3: thirty five years. You know, it's mental if you think
- 12:12Speaker 3: about it more than thirty five years and thirty six
- 12:14Speaker 3: years actually since they quit. So that that's that said,
- 12:20Speaker 3: you know it, So it's not given, so that that
- 12:24Speaker 3: was just the luck of the whole thing that they
- 12:26Speaker 3: actually And also we're jamming on some old Mame songs
- 12:29Speaker 3: obviously as well, so they you know, they were jamming on.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Death Cursion ship with disorder bands, so they were kind
- 12:37Speaker 1: of you know, so that that made it possible to
- 12:41Speaker 1: do it.
- 12:42Speaker 3: And I was stoked because Mom, I mean, it's the
- 12:46Speaker 3: guy I grew up where we were sitting next to
- 12:48Speaker 3: each other in the classroom, we went to school together.
- 12:53Speaker 3: We started the band, not the Spanding when we started
- 12:57Speaker 3: playing a band four years before man and we had
- 13:01Speaker 3: different names and constellations and stuff, but it was always
- 13:04Speaker 3: me and Marlian, you know, and then Billy. But Billy
- 13:10Speaker 3: he he had some of the bands that he prioritized,
- 13:15Speaker 3: and so you know, it was never he never thought
- 13:24Speaker 3: of himself that he would be really a full time
- 13:29Speaker 3: member of Maham.
- 13:30Speaker 1: But he but he is.
- 13:32Speaker 3: He's a pal and you know, he did the studio
- 13:35Speaker 3: thing for us, he did live and stuff and it
- 13:37Speaker 3: is and now he came back in a big way
- 13:39Speaker 3: and did this. Unfortunately, these two guys are not coming
- 13:43Speaker 3: to Australia with.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Us, and.
- 13:48Speaker 3: The logistics were just too much. And and actually Billy
- 13:55Speaker 3: Messiah is having a smaller heart surgery. Those are the
- 14:01Speaker 3: Christmas Oh well, so yeah, uh, you know it's uh,
- 14:09Speaker 3: it's we're all we.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Are getting older.
- 14:11Speaker 3: Speaking of which, so funs might have seen that we
- 14:16Speaker 3: had just canceled the US tour. I should have been
- 14:18Speaker 3: in the stage right now as we speak.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Actually, yeah, one of us.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Since it's not me, but one of the other blogs
- 14:27Speaker 3: had to have a surgery. It's not life threatening or anything,
- 14:31Speaker 3: but it had to be done.
- 14:33Speaker 1: And it was just like he just got a quick.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Appointment, and we were thinking, you know, the hell first,
- 14:44Speaker 3: so I mean, better to get it over and done
- 14:47Speaker 3: with because we have all the tours, and then to
- 14:50Speaker 3: people to ease people in mind that we are still
- 14:54Speaker 3: you know, that we are good and are coming. Is
- 14:58Speaker 3: that people should watch out for a U Ropean tour
- 15:00Speaker 3: now starts. I think it's the sixth of December in
- 15:03Speaker 3: Paris and in Stockholm the fifteenth of December, and so
- 15:10Speaker 3: you all can see that that we're back, you know,
- 15:14Speaker 3: like and be re sure that you know, just a
- 15:16Speaker 3: couple of weeks later we'll be on the flight down under,
- 15:20Speaker 3: you know. So we're all good. It's just it's just
- 15:23Speaker 3: a minor thing. We have to cancel five shows in
- 15:27Speaker 3: the States, I mean, three shows in the States and
- 15:30Speaker 3: two shows in Canada this week.
- 15:32Speaker 1: But but unfortunately, but you know, these things happen sometimes.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Unfortunately, you'll be back, you know, you will be back
- 15:44Speaker 3: for the European tour that starts in uh was it
- 15:48Speaker 3: three weeks?
- 15:49Speaker 1: Four weeks from now? Man?
- 15:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I believe man.
- 15:55Speaker 1: That's also I'm glad.
- 15:56Speaker 2: I'm glad everyone is okay somewhat like.
- 15:59Speaker 1: That's you know, yeah, absolutely do that.
- 16:02Speaker 4: But and outside of the band, uh, you know, you've
- 16:06Speaker 4: you've got a grand daughter and you've a grandson. I
- 16:09Speaker 4: believe I'm a grand power as well. How do you
- 16:13Speaker 4: that's changed you as a musician and influenced your work
- 16:17Speaker 4: and things like that I know how it's done for me,
- 16:19Speaker 4: But what about for you?
- 16:21Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Yes, you know, everything that happens calls you.
- 16:28Speaker 1: You know in your life.
- 16:30Speaker 3: The birth, deaths, all the kind of things you experience,
- 16:35Speaker 3: you carry with you. H But I've been all sudden
- 16:39Speaker 3: and done, and I've been through a lot of different things.
- 16:44Speaker 3: I think I landed pretty much being myself.
- 16:49Speaker 1: More or less all the time, and also.
- 16:51Speaker 3: Landed that a lot of people said to me, say
- 16:57Speaker 3: to me that, oh shit, you have changed anything from
- 17:03Speaker 3: I was a teenager, And I think to myself, I think,
- 17:06Speaker 3: actually I grew up a little bit too fast for
- 17:10Speaker 3: different reasons, not good at the time, but to turnout
- 17:18Speaker 3: good afterwards that I think.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Yeah, why is the reason why I'm coming up with this?
- 17:30Speaker 3: Yeah, So I pretty much had it laid out and
- 17:36Speaker 3: everything actually except the people who tragically passed away and
- 17:42Speaker 3: you know, like stuff like that. Apart from that, everything
- 17:45Speaker 3: is going according to the plan we set up when
- 17:48Speaker 3: we were sixteen years old or fifteen years old.
- 17:51Speaker 1: It's still the same thing going on.
- 17:54Speaker 3: And for example, this house i'm doing this injury from
- 17:58Speaker 3: I bought it in nineteen ninety tree, I'm still sitting here.
- 18:03Speaker 3: You know, I'm you know, I'm stare and I'm committed,
- 18:06Speaker 3: and I have plan and i i'm you know, so
- 18:12Speaker 3: I'm not wingling around that much. And and the life,
- 18:17Speaker 3: death or anything that has happened on the way didn't
- 18:21Speaker 3: change the course. So I'm still the same. But of
- 18:24Speaker 3: course you get colored. I don't think. But it didn't
- 18:28Speaker 3: change me.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Much.
- 18:34Speaker 3: But of course the responsibility of having kids and stuff,
- 18:38Speaker 3: it's huge, So of course life changes. Yeah, but your personality,
- 18:49Speaker 3: the personality I didn't, luckily didn't have to change.
- 18:53Speaker 1: It was good enough.
- 18:57Speaker 2: It is it in the family.
- 18:59Speaker 4: Is is your grandson set going on, you know, picking
- 19:03Speaker 4: up the guitar and the basil.
- 19:07Speaker 3: No, No, my grandson he's named after me.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Actually it's called Urn. He has a.
- 19:18Speaker 3: No. He's thirteen and a half years old now and
- 19:24Speaker 3: I had him over before the weekend. His interest is more.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Gaming and actually he's started to go to the gym. Okay, yep,
- 19:40Speaker 1: we live weights, so.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Healthy proteins and stuff. So I'm just like, yeah, that's great,
- 19:50Speaker 3: that's good. It's better than you know, doing wrong things.
- 19:54Speaker 3: So he's a good job, good job. But he doesn't
- 19:58Speaker 3: he didn't pick up on the the metal thing.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Or the music, and neither did.
- 20:03Speaker 3: My daughter, who is now thirty three years old, never
- 20:07Speaker 3: go into music or anything as far as I know.
- 20:12Speaker 1: She's more into rap. I guess that metal. So but
- 20:20Speaker 1: that's how it goes, you know.
- 20:21Speaker 3: And but then again, this is a very fucking narrow
- 20:26Speaker 3: way road to be a metal musician. There's nothing I
- 20:31Speaker 3: would have recommended. It has to shoot you, yes, and
- 20:38Speaker 3: then you can do it. You can't just shoot Okay,
- 20:41Speaker 3: I'm gonna be you know, like that's not happening. And
- 20:48Speaker 3: so so I'm actually happy I wouldn't have gone down
- 20:55Speaker 3: that road myself, or I hy would because I did.
- 20:59Speaker 3: But it was a very narrow role and the we
- 21:03Speaker 3: were broke for many many years also, so that's also
- 21:11Speaker 3: about part of it.
- 21:12Speaker 5: You have to sacrifice, yes, with metal get there yet
- 21:16Speaker 5: you're right, you know, that lightning bolt comes down and
- 21:19Speaker 5: hits you, and then you broke for a long time.
- 21:22Speaker 2: I'm still broke, but you love it. It gets you right.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, exactly, I mean, it's exactly.
- 21:30Speaker 2: I would not be without it, I'll tell you.
- 21:32Speaker 4: But hey, man, can we expect a new album or
- 21:35Speaker 4: new music on the way for twenty twenty five and beyond?
- 21:39Speaker 1: The four okay, yeah, yeah, also yes you can. There is.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Telor and the Childs has presented some demos, both of
- 21:57Speaker 3: them presented over ten songs or ten skeletons, so presented
- 22:03Speaker 3: almost twenty songs, and I listen to everything and we're
- 22:09Speaker 3: you know, and some of it is really fucking good.
- 22:12Speaker 3: So we we're gonna after the Australian tour, I guess, no,
- 22:21Speaker 3: some of us is gonna go on some tours with
- 22:23Speaker 3: some other bands. But in March I think we're gonna
- 22:29Speaker 3: get together and start to hammer out.
- 22:31Speaker 1: This thing, and.
- 22:34Speaker 3: By by twenty twenty five we should have been able
- 22:38Speaker 3: to enter the studio and then hopefully, I mean hope,
- 22:47Speaker 3: also it will be cool to have it out in
- 22:50Speaker 3: twenty twenty five. That would be a goal, but I
- 22:55Speaker 3: we'll see, but definitely twenty twenty six, and then of
- 22:59Speaker 3: course we'll be heading out to a New World tour
- 23:03Speaker 3: to to to promote it, I guess. So hopefully this
- 23:10Speaker 3: is not the last time we come down down Under.
- 23:14Speaker 3: And since we're speaking of the you know, anniversars and ship,
- 23:19Speaker 3: we are nine years out of out of the fifty
- 23:22Speaker 3: year anniversary, and the previous its year suggested that we
- 23:27Speaker 3: should do the opera house. Yeah, and I think that
