- 0:47SPEAKER_03: It's actually been very enjoyable.

- 0:56SPEAKER_03: Um how are you both?
- 0:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, pretty good.
- 1:00SPEAKER_04: Uh another win on the weekend.
- 1:03SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, not really much more to say, to be honest.
- 1:06SPEAKER_04: And Maddie's back, so yeah, great.
- 1:08SPEAKER_04: Pretty happy.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: Who did you play?
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Did you who did you play?
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: What's the score, Brendan?
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Come on, it's not the first one.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, we played we played Reading.
- 1:17SPEAKER_04: Um it was a pretty, pretty, I'll be honest with you, it's a pretty awful game.
- 1:22SPEAKER_04: It was pretty boring.
- 1:23SPEAKER_04: Uh we won 9-0.
- 1:25SPEAKER_04: Uh it sounds really bad, but I really I I've not enjoyed last week's because it was it just wasn't enjoyable, it wasn't fun.
- 1:33SPEAKER_04: They didn't really try that much, they were missing a lot of players.
- 1:36SPEAKER_04: It was a pretty, pretty miserable game, to be perfectly honest.
- 1:39SPEAKER_04: And that sounds bad that I'm not happy about a 9-nil win, but it genuinely wasn't enjoyable.
- 1:45SPEAKER_04: But that's another win, so can't complain too much.
- 1:49SPEAKER_03: And Maddie's back.
- 1:51SPEAKER_04: And Maddie's back.
- 1:52SPEAKER_04: That's the real positive.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're you're glowing, Brendan.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: I didn't want to say you're glowing.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I you you I'm I assume you have a hat on because I can already see your hair look shit from here.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's so bad.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I can already see.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: I haven't seen it, but I can I can oh mate.
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: I think for the listeners, listeners back home, Brendan's tried to um style his locks um by sh by keeping the hair long, but shaving the the back and the tiny bit of the sides, and I can conclude and agree with you.
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: It's it's it's pretty out there, Brent.
- 2:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I I'll be honest with you.
- 2:35SPEAKER_04: It it I got a new razor, Manscaped, which we should 100% get as a sponsor for the podcast.
- 2:40SPEAKER_04: They're great.
- 2:41SPEAKER_04: Um couldn't work it out.
- 2:43SPEAKER_04: Basically, got it all wrong, shaved a lot shorter than planned, and then just have to commit, don't you?
- 2:48SPEAKER_04: Um give me two, three weeks, it'll look glorious.
- 2:52SPEAKER_04: I'm telling you now, it'll look glorious in two or three weeks.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I thought I should you for a change, I'll jump on the back of Brendan because we'll come to the Dutch second.
- 3:05SPEAKER_03: Um, we we won 10-0 this week.
- 3:09SPEAKER_03: Um which which again seems to be some kind of like there's an ongoing thing.
- 3:14SPEAKER_03: Um our statistician David Ames already had a stat for me at the weekend in the top five teams in our English Premier League men's side, played five other teams in the league, and the total aggregate score was 42-nil.
- 3:30SPEAKER_03: So um yeah, there might there might be a slight issue with our league.
- 3:35SPEAKER_03: Uh as I said last week, we probably need to make that a topic, but um, yeah, it's a pretty weird, pretty weird feeling like having our two last results being 12-1 and 10-0.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: Um, it's probably not what you want for a league.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: Uh having seen that in the men's hoof klasse, the 12th team drew with the first team.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: Um so the leaders and the bottom of the table drew, which probably shows some quality there that we're maybe lacking.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: What was the team feel?
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: Pin a K?
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and the other one?
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: I'm so excited for this.
- 4:11SPEAKER_03: Skavida.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Oh, not too bad.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Nice that's decent, Philip.
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: You how did you go?
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Uh to be honest, it was a bit of a shitty week.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't want to be all negative Nancy over here, but uh the result was uh was good.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Like we won 4-1 in uh in not our best game, but we it yeah, like the difference with this year and last couple years was is that even though he played quite quite shitty, we still got away with a win, and it wasn't really close at the end, so that's happy.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: But um we had to uh I'll I'll I'll I'll try and keep it short.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Not my strong suit, but hey, who gives a shit?
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: We st I started with a clinic on Friday, like we had this hockey clinic.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: Um I don't want to get into a much deal, but I got a I got a hit in the head by a hockey ball um by one of my own players.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, Brendan, you can look all surprised, but I already sent a voice note in the group chap.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: So if you don't listen, if you don't know, then I know you don't listen to my to my fabulous voice notes.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: But for the listeners, like I was collecting balls from the goal.
- 5:23SPEAKER_03: Feminist or feminist?
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: Sorry?
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: Your feminist voice notes, your feminine voice notes.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Fabulous voice notes.
- 5:32SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, Phil, come on, come on, it's it's not that hard to understand.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, sorry.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Fuck you, Phil.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Sorry, yeah, tomorrow comp.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: I'm not yeah, we'll get back to that.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: But I was collecting balls from the goal, and one of my own uh teammates thought it was a good idea to flick it on goal, and it went went to my head.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Uh so I had to uh the one good thing was I got to skip the clinic because my because I was bleeding from my from my head, but the not so good thing was that I so got hit on the head.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Um then on Saturday.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Uh I could I could obviously play, but with four minutes to play, like that was this big ass motherfucking drag flicker.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Like you're right, like if they were all lined up, you would know who was the drag flicker, like this big guy, like who who who with four minutes to play, four-one down, thought it was a good idea to flick it knee-high on my knee.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: Knee got fucked up, so I couldn't play anymore.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, and the ref gave another corner.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: You see me lying on the floor almost crying, but I'm a big boy, so I didn't.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Um, and he he's still stuck with his corner.
- 6:41SPEAKER_03: Is that I don't know the rules that well.
- 6:44SPEAKER_03: Is that a corner?
- 6:46SPEAKER_03: Knee is a corner.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: Well, good for him then.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: He made the right call.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: I thought it was dangerous when it was on the knee.
- 6:54SPEAKER_04: No, knee's knee because apparently, because we've got protection, it means that if you get hit on the knee, it's a corner, which makes no sense.
- 7:01SPEAKER_04: But that's apparently the rule.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: And and because I'm I'm tall as shit, like if it hit if it would have hit Timer Eingra, it would have been on his like uh chest.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: So I don't, I don't, I don't get that rule.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: Like my knee is so for me, it's less dangerous when it's on the knee than for timer, but okay, fuck it.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: So uh, but we won for one, we've won seven out of eight.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: We have a big double weekend with uh Schaalweide and uh Blumentel.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: So uh we'll see how we'll be after that, but we're doing really well.
- 7:29SPEAKER_03: Awesome.
- 7:30SPEAKER_03: I mean, before we get on to the news, um like I like it when people get in touch and please just like carry on messaging insta email, whatever.
- 7:39SPEAKER_03: Um, Tom Carson, one of the founders at Y1, who we uh brought to you by, decided to voice note me the other day saying like he's enjoying the pod, but Brendan reminds him of Neil from The In Between Us.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: He's like, no one really knows what he's going on about, but it's kind of entertaining.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: Who am I?
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Am I the one with like the blonde uh hair?
- 8:00SPEAKER_03: You're a hundred percent.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Jay, yeah, you're 100% Jay.
- 8:02SPEAKER_03: And I'm Will.
- 8:07SPEAKER_04: I'll take it.
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: So so honestly, yeah, keep giving us your feedback.
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: Who do we remind you of?
- 8:13SPEAKER_03: Mainly just insults uh, you know, the lanky men, please.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: But on to some news.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: Um, so the the uh first of all, the Pan Ams uh finished, and shockingly, both Argentina teams won.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: Um the men beat Chile 3-1 in the final, and the women beat USA 2-1 in their final.
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: Neither was as convincing as it was supposed to be.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: I don't know what's happened to Argentina, but they should probably be spanking uh both them, both of them teams.
- 8:45SPEAKER_03: Uh, it did look a really cool event in Chile.
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: When Chile men got through to the to the semis and won their semi-final, the scenes looked absolutely insane.
- 8:54SPEAKER_03: We played with a guy, Jose, shout out to you.
- 8:57SPEAKER_03: Uh, like them beating Canada in the semi-final looked really sick, so congrats on that.
- 9:03SPEAKER_03: Um, but Brendan, I know that you got very excited because there was a red card in the men's final and you sent a video to us.
- 9:11SPEAKER_04: Class.
- 9:12SPEAKER_04: Could not be you've been asking for it for weeks.
- 9:15SPEAKER_04: We finally got some actual action, some retaliation.
- 9:19SPEAKER_04: Oh, amazing.
- 9:19SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, to put in context, we put it out on Insta the other the other day.
- 9:24SPEAKER_04: Um, Argentina basically score a counter-attack goal into an open net uh to make it 3-1, at which point one of the Chile boys decides to get involved in the celebration, and I it's not a headbutt and it's not a push, it's it's a push with the head, uh, and somehow knocks over four Argentinian guys celebrating, um, gets a straight red card.
- 9:45SPEAKER_04: Now, I actually spoke to an umpire on the weekend because I wanted to get I wanted to understand his feedback, and quote unquote, what a bunch of wetters, yellow card, maximum, should never have been a red.
- 9:57SPEAKER_04: So I was quite happy about that because I was like, this is decent.
- 9:59SPEAKER_04: So it turns out Argentinians, even when they're celebrating, still want to dive, which is great to great to know.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but you shared the video, it's on on Instagram, uh, it was on our story the other day.
- 10:09SPEAKER_03: Like, it does look fairly aggressive.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: Also, it's a really like I'm sure you absolutely love that move.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: Like, I've never seen a player run after a team while they're celebrating and try and nut them all.
- 10:20SPEAKER_03: It's absolutely incredible.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm sorry, I don't know the ref, but come on, it's it's a hundred percent red card.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: He fucking headbutts four people at the same time.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: It's a it's a push.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's uh even even if it was a push, Brent, it's a fucking red card.
- 10:37SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm surprised I'm the one saying this, but right, so spitting okay, headbutting slash pushing not okay.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: Now, in Yup's view, spitting at French people is okay.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: No, again, no.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: I've never said it was okay.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: I said I understood why he did it.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: That's the one thing I don't say it's okay, but if it's it's I'm not going into this again.
- 11:00SPEAKER_04: My I'll I'll I'll finish my favorite part.
- 11:02SPEAKER_04: So I actually watch the game live.
- 11:04SPEAKER_04: My favorite part of the whole game was so it was one-nil to Argentina up until about a minute ago in the third quarter.
- 11:12SPEAKER_04: Chile then scores a corner.
- 11:14SPEAKER_04: The place goes absolutely mental.
- 11:16SPEAKER_04: Like honestly, the crowd go crazy.
- 11:18SPEAKER_04: Anyway, quarter time three third quarter time happens.
- 11:22SPEAKER_04: The coach decides not to lead any of the coaching for the first 20-30 seconds, and instead is going to the crowd trying to get them more and more excited, which I think is like such a baller move.
- 11:32SPEAKER_04: Obviously, it doesn't pay off in the long run, but I absolutely love the fact that he's gone, we need atmosphere here, we need more crowd.
- 11:39SPEAKER_04: And they were already going crazy at the time.
- 11:40SPEAKER_04: So I was like, big like kudos to Chile, because it by the looks of it, one, it looks like an amazing event, but two, it looked like actually the final was really good with a lot of action, goals, this, that, and the other, you name it.
- 11:51SPEAKER_04: Um, and by the sounds of it, it kept the game quite close, which is also fair play, I think, to them.
- 11:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and that obviously means that Argentina, both Argentina teams have um qualified for the Olympics.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: On to this um the African nations, um, South both South Africa teams won.
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: Um, the women won 9-0 in their final versus Nigeria, and the men beat um Egypt 2-1.
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: Um, but again, like on our point from the last few weeks, I looked up the men's road to the final.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: They won 10-0, 8-2, 11-0, and then 7-0 in the semi-final.
- 12:27SPEAKER_03: Like, is anyone what is for first of all, does anyone watch?
- 12:31SPEAKER_03: Like, does does it I mean it's good that they had a close one in the final, but like South Africa are meant to be quite good, and any beating Egypt 2-1 in the final is like interesting.
- 12:42SPEAKER_03: And women beating Nigeria 9-nil in the final makes a bit of a mockery of that tournament.
- 12:47unknown: Yeah.
- 12:47SPEAKER_03: Do you reckon?
- 12:48SPEAKER_04: I think I think so, yeah.
- 12:49SPEAKER_04: I I funnily enough, I actually spoke to Kwan Brown, who used to play for Trinidad, and I actually spoke to him about the whole system because obviously with Europe, we only get one team through despite having a ridiculously high level of tournament, and then you look at the other other tournaments, and they kind of have a pretty easy ride apart from obviously the Asians, uh, the Asian games.
- 13:07SPEAKER_04: So, like, it's really interesting that and he's he basically said that apparently teams just know how to make it really, really difficult.
- 13:15SPEAKER_04: So, actually, like for the Pan Ams, for example, there's no big score lines, and then obviously with Egypt and South Africa, it's a really, really tight score line.
- 13:23SPEAKER_04: Like, for that, it's really interesting that actually when the games get tougher or there's more on the games, teams know how to make it a bit more hard or more difficult, and that's what's quite interesting for me.
- 13:33SPEAKER_04: Like, obviously, there are some big scores, like Argentina won 22-nil in the group stage, but it's like when it actually push comes to shove, so that final, it's actually quite tight.
- 13:42SPEAKER_04: But obviously, yeah, there's teams that are crap in there, in there.
- 13:45SPEAKER_03: You've done a quite a good contradiction in your own sense.
- 13:47SPEAKER_04: Oh, massively.
- 13:48SPEAKER_04: That sounds like me.
- 13:49SPEAKER_04: In fact, Cast, you're completely right.
- 13:50SPEAKER_04: I've done it again.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: Neil, Neil, Jay, what do you think?
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Um I'm not really okay with being named Jay, but I'll let it slip for this one time.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, what do I think?
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: To be honest, I've I've not given it a lot of thought.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Uh, I just kind of don't watch it assume Argentina and South Africa go on, and exactly that's what happened.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: I just think there's not enough hockey being played in Africa.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think Egypt is coming, it's coming up a little bit, but it's like the only one, except for South Africa.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: I would have expected South Africa to win a bit easier than 2-1.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: They have quite a few good players at the Olympics in 2021.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: They gave us a run for our money, uh, being 3-0 down at after the first quarter.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: Um, I still have nightmares about that game.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Seeing the heels of uh both Cassim brothers, I think, multiple times within 30 minutes.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: So um, yeah, I expected them to win a bit easier.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: And I don't know exactly what you said, like this will come and haunt us, probably, because Argentina is the kind of team I feel like Argentina is like the kind of team that can win against everybody but can also lose against everybody.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: There are also a bunch of motherfuckers over there.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: They just they just they just slow down the game, they linger on, linger on, and all of a sudden you're a 3-0 down, and it's like, what the fuck happened?
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I'm not I'm not saying anything about Argentina anymore because I know I can say now that they're that they're not the best anymore, but they'll probably go out and and be become second at the Olympics or something.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: They're the they're that kind of team.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: Um but yeah, I don't I don't know.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: I th I thought the uh uh if if you win 22-0 in the group stage, uh it's that's like almost as bad as the English uh Premier League hockey.
- 15:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I've realized that's quite hypocritical now, isn't it?
- 15:45SPEAKER_03: Having a go at that and then we're winning 10.
- 15:47SPEAKER_03: Really, really thank you for point thank you for pointing that out, Yup.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: Thank you, no worries, Philip.
- 15:52SPEAKER_03: Right, I had a suggestion that I wanted to run by you both, and then Brendan's got a another suggestion for the change of rules, and then we'll get on to the awards.
- 16:01SPEAKER_03: So I was having a think the other day, and I was basically thinking about your words with the hockey fives last week and how it's a whole load of ruish, and I'm not sure I agree.
- 16:11SPEAKER_03: So then I was like, there's got to be some kind of format that that could be introduced, like basketball have the um 3v3 in the Olympics, and uh they also have the normal 5v5.
- 16:25SPEAKER_03: So I was like, what could the FIH do or introduce that isn't indoor or beach hockey or stupid hockey fives to give another medal to hockey?
- 16:35SPEAKER_03: And I thought about the basketball equivalent with the help of a of a fuller shout out to you.
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: That basically, instead of having two goals, you have one goal and you basically make it some kind of 3v3 turn and burn version of hockey, right?
- 16:51SPEAKER_03: This is like this is just I'm putting it out to you.
- 16:53SPEAKER_03: You can shoot me down all you want, but I just had an idea.
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: You basically only need a D and a 25.
- 16:58SPEAKER_03: You basically then uh make a ring around it so that people can spectate, and basically it's 3v3.
- 17:05SPEAKER_03: Uh, and you play with one goal, you obviously have to win it.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: Everyone's played the training drill where you have to win it, go across the 25, come back, and you shoot in the same goal.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: I'm sure there's many, many problems with it, but I thought it'd be fucking cool to watch.
- 17:19SPEAKER_03: You'd be see some sick goals, you see some very good, amazing skills.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: I think it's a fucking terrible idea with because of just one sheer thing, it's it's the goalie.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, who's the goalie?
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: Because I would fucking kill if if if someone is like impartial in the goal and he fucks up, like can we get mad at him?
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: No, but then like he's he's having a belter on one hand, but on the other hand, he's like fucking up.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: Like that will not like why did you why did you lose uh the Olympic final?
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because fucking Tony over there uh got three got three balls through the legs uh when they hit on goal and fucking saved three uh hits or goal out of the top corner.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Okay, okay.
- 18:04SPEAKER_03: I've got a solution already.
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: Okay, you have to you have to go into a box at the top of the 25, and there's two seconds where you spend in the box where the keepers can change over.
- 18:14SPEAKER_04: No.
- 18:17SPEAKER_04: What do you mean, no?
- 18:19SPEAKER_04: It just slows the game downloads, doesn't it?
- 18:20SPEAKER_04: So it loses the effect.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: Two seconds.
- 18:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's quite a long time.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: All you've got to do is jump in, jump out.
- 18:27SPEAKER_04: That's no, you've got to stay there for two seconds, Phil.
- 18:29SPEAKER_04: You've just said it.
- 18:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so that the keeper can change.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: But I think Philip, if I'm honest, I think then the whole uh like the the quickness, like the there's no countering or countering anymore.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: There's no like quick turnovers, it will be like a kind of handball-y, I think.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: Because you got two seconds to set up, then you can have like your setup, and then it's you know what I mean?
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like I know you're very disappointed.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: You you thought you had a great idea, but it's it ended up being totally dog shit.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: And that's not that that's Phil, kudos for you for trying.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: And like, really, I like the initiative, but it's shit.
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm not disappointed.
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm everybody can reach for the stars, Phil.
- 19:09SPEAKER_03: I'm willing to take this, and like I said, you a few seasons ago, you said shoot for the stars, and you might end up on the moon and you might end up on the ground.
- 19:18SPEAKER_03: And I'm gonna come back to you with better solutions.
- 19:21SPEAKER_03: I do think that you lose the middle two sections of a hockey game and it suddenly becomes very exciting.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I think I'd rather play hockey fives than I'd play your stupid version of it.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: That sets it up.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: But hey, again, uh well done for trying.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: No, no, no, no, no.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: Fuck fuck yourself.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: Fuck yourself.
- 19:41SPEAKER_03: Don't don't don't you start saying well, well done, but I'd rather play hockey fives.
- 19:45SPEAKER_03: Don't don't condescend me.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: You should still try and go for the stars.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: And I think, as I said, I think Brendan should still stay here because there's no people left if everyone but everybody goes shooting for the stars.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: That's all I said.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: Brendan, you were a bit collateral damage in this one, but yeah, that's yeah, that sounds like a gust.
- 20:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool.
- 20:06SPEAKER_03: Well, I'll I'll take that and we'll go back to the drawing board.
- 20:10SPEAKER_03: Brendan's also got a suggested change.
- 20:12SPEAKER_04: Uh, I'd just like to say, Phil, I like the fact that you're trying to innovate.
- 20:15SPEAKER_04: I like the idea.
- 20:16SPEAKER_04: And and I'll be honest with you, I think I'd rather play your version than hockey fives, but that's no surprise, really, because I think hockey fives is absolute dog shit.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: You see, Phil, and this is where if Brendan likes it even more than he does hockey fives, then we have a problem.
- 20:33SPEAKER_04: Love joking.
- 20:34SPEAKER_04: Right, I'll go.
- 20:36SPEAKER_04: Um, this was actually a suggestion from two of the GBE guys, um, Nick Park mainly, but with help from James Gall.
- 20:44SPEAKER_04: They suggested a change in rule format for hockey, with obviously hockey being quarters as well.
- 20:50SPEAKER_04: It's quite a cool rule change, I think.
- 20:51SPEAKER_04: They've basically suggested that it's the same same equivalent rule as rugby.
- 20:56SPEAKER_04: So at the end of each period, basically the game doesn't stop until the ball goes out of play, or the defender or the defensive team win a free hit.
- 21:04SPEAKER_04: So, for example, at the end of the first quarter, there's five seconds to go.
- 21:08SPEAKER_04: Rather than taking a quick 16 and trying to smash it down the far end, it actually gives teams an opportunity to play build-up and actually gives them an opportunity to create a proper attack.
- 21:18SPEAKER_04: Um, so like, for example, a free hit, an attacking free hit is still played, but the minute there's a sideline, it'd be game over or defensive team would win a free hit.
- 21:26SPEAKER_04: And I had quite a few thoughts about it, and we basically discussed it of like I think it's actually a really good idea for a rule change.
- 21:33SPEAKER_04: I think it makes the end of because if off the back of the Rugby World Cup, for people that watched it, there was games that basically lasted.
- 21:40SPEAKER_04: So uh the Kiwis versus the Ireland, uh England versus South Africa, there were huge moments that happened in the final play of the game where the ball was kept alive and it basically created incredible drama.
- 21:51SPEAKER_04: And I actually think for for a sport like hockey it would make it really exciting to four basically four opportunities to basically score in overtime, which I think is quite cool.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: Um and quite a cool opportunity for the sport to kind of learn something from other sports and yeah, take take this sport again to another level, which I think it's done recently with loads of rules.
- 22:11SPEAKER_04: But I think this rule is actually quite a good addition, especially with the game having been shortened by two and a half minutes.
- 22:16SPEAKER_04: I think actually uh each quarter, I think would actually be quite an exciting rule change.
- 22:20SPEAKER_04: What's your thoughts?
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: Um don't know if it changes the sport that much, to be honest.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: Um I would I would I would rather go to like the the version of uh that every minute that gets played, for instance, instead of like a uh golden goal or shootouts that we take a player out each like every two minutes or something.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: So I would suggest even more mayhem, and after the first half, every team has to take off two players, and then after the the third quarter, everybody has to take another two players.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: So it's a really big field with less players and it's just run and gun fucking big.
- 22:56SPEAKER_04: I I feel you're taking a piss right now because I feel my suggestion I feel their suggestion is legitimate 11 aside actually makes the game quite exciting towards the end.
- 23:06SPEAKER_04: Whereas you've just gone fuck it, been off the rules, let's just have absolute chaos and hope for the best.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's okay, not after halftime, maybe, but at least after full time, there's no more draws.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: No one likes a draw, no one wins with this.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: I think draws are shit.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: You should go to overtime, and for every two minutes you take a player out or something.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: That the field that that how how sick, like how good of a television would we get if it's like five five aside or four a side on a full hockey pitch.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but you could still do you could still do that with Brendan's rule.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: Oh no, this is the power of brainstorming, everyone.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: Two kind of shitty ideas together make up for one good idea.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: I like that.
- 23:56SPEAKER_03: I mean on Brendan's or no, Parky's idea.
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: Can't believe Parky's come up with this, by the way, because it's actually pretty good.
- 24:02SPEAKER_04: So well, yeah, this is it's worrying, isn't it?
- 24:05SPEAKER_03: But it's actually pretty good.
- 24:06SPEAKER_03: The only downsides to it is maybe you could just do it a half time, full time because that's a lot more hockey that could potentially be played if you're playing against Germany or Belgium where they want to keep the ball for five minutes and not actually go anywhere.
- 24:18SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, but this is the whole this is the whole point of it.
- 24:21SPEAKER_04: Gives one pressing team opportunity to win the ball, obviously, and just knock it out.
- 24:24SPEAKER_04: I also really like the idea that defensive team, they have a 16, for example, they know they've got to get the ball out, and there's that jittery person on the ball that's like shaking as they're having to try and chuck an aerial over everyone to the sideline.
- 24:36SPEAKER_04: I think it's quite entertaining.
- 24:37SPEAKER_04: Well, if you have who are you talking about there?
- 24:40SPEAKER_04: Uh me.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: You can just go 90 degrees to the right and flick it over your sideline, right?
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: It's not that that hard.
- 24:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but there's fuck-ups in this world, isn't there?
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there are.
- 24:53SPEAKER_04: I do quite like the idea though that it does like it creates an and almost like a final set play type thing, or like it gives teams an opportunity rather than just chucking it 70 yards off the baseline and game over.
- 25:05SPEAKER_04: Actually, it means they'll have to defend properly.
- 25:07SPEAKER_04: Like, I think it's actually quite a I think it's actually a really good rule, I'll be honest with you.
- 25:10SPEAKER_04: And I think I can't find a negative to it yet.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: No, what I and what I do like is people will be um um like forced to attack through the middle even more.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you won't go to the right or to the left quickly because it's you get like one fuck up and there's a lot of fuck-ups, as you said, and you'll the game is over.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: So I like it.
- 25:32SPEAKER_03: I think playing high risk, Kyrie Ward, because if you draw in, say, and you go for attack down the middle, you give away a counter-attack, and the other team goes and scores.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: I'm and and I'm not sure why you guys were so surprised, but well done, Park and Goal.
- 25:48SPEAKER_04: Not surprised by goal jammers in help with it, but more surprised Parky was the one that came up with it.
- 25:53SPEAKER_04: That that surprised us.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: So you wanted you wanted to say goal, but then you thought, oh, that's not right, so I'll go with the nickname again.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: Yes, sorry, sorry, James Gore.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: Sorry, sorry for you, you sorry.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: Jammer.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: Well done, Jammer.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: Well done, Parky.
- 26:07SPEAKER_03: So two great suggested changes and additions to hockey.
- 26:11SPEAKER_03: Um, one from myself, one from Brendan.
- 26:14SPEAKER_03: So well done.
- 26:16SPEAKER_05: Well fuck you, Phil.
- 26:17SPEAKER_04: You already was dog shit.
- 26:18SPEAKER_04: Mine was yours was dog shit.
- 26:20SPEAKER_04: You're offer was much better.
- 26:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I agree.
- 26:23SPEAKER_04: You both really was good as well.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: You both feel that really seriously.
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 26:27SPEAKER_03: Um, you're gonna do very quick uh Brinkman FIFA card.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: Okay, because you've done some good work.
- 26:34SPEAKER_03: We wanted to get another FIFA card out there.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: Let's let's crack.
- 26:37SPEAKER_05: He's fuming.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: We're not doing it very quick, Phil.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take my time and I'm gonna go through it very carefully.
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: I meant we can't every week have a 20-minute discussion about FIFA cards, just do the card, you knobber.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: Watch me.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: First, the pace.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: Uh, I actually went through this with Cherry, like not with Cherry, but I sent him his uh his uh stats, and I was like, this is what I'm giving you.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: Uh first I asked, is it okay if we do your FIFA card?
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: Uh oh, sorry, sorry, sorry.
- 27:10SPEAKER_03: You gave Brendan a lot of shit last week with Maddie, but already you're like, Oh Thierry, is it all right?
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: You see for permission.
- 27:18SPEAKER_03: I didn't realize it was your father.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: Okay, Captain.
- 27:23SPEAKER_00: I just asked my captain if it was okay if we did his FIFA card.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: I was really nervous.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: So oh my god.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: He's two inches tall, I can handle him.
- 27:33SPEAKER_00: Um, I just asked if it was okay for privacy reasons if we did his FIFA card, and I stand by what I did.
- 27:41SPEAKER_04: Uh privacy reasons.
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: Brendan, but you don't need mate.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: He doesn't stop watching privacy chat.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: Brendan, fuck you.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: You did it just because you want to get late with your own girlfriend.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: That's why you did it.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: Also, I just did it.
- 27:53SPEAKER_00: I just did it because I'm afraid of my spot in the team.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: Okay, here we go.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: Um, I gave him 81.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: He is yeah, Brendan, you were really on about this, but you've never been on training with him.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: He's not very quick, but he's fast, and you're you're an oil tanker.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: We've we've been through it.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: Um, fuck you, Brendan.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: Shot at 94.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: I think he has I've seen it a lot.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: Um, I think he has the best shot I have seen till now.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: That's not a rogue statement.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: I firmly stand by it.
- 28:24SPEAKER_03: Ever.
- 28:25SPEAKER_03: You're talking about you've ever seen.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: Uh, like I've I've ever seen, like I've ever played with.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: He has the best shot of a player I've ever there's there.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: Might be someone with a better shot, but I haven't played with him or haven't seen it yet.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: Uh his passing, I gave a 76.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: He gives quite a few assists.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, he's involved in a lot of goals, and he had, as I said, he has like his stick is as straight as a wooden plank.
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: Uh, he can hit every ball flat over the over the ground.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: He has a good pass.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: He just doesn't use it as much because he's a striker, but he has a good, like a very good hit.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: Um, dribble I had 90.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: He has a really good dribble, never loses the ball.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: It's not like as as like nice or as beautiful as when Van Alball or when Phil like does his right to left or whatever, but um there's still he never loses the ball, he always has the ball really close to his feet, so I gave it a 90.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: His defense wanted to give 12, but uh then I then I thought um then I give Phil some credit because he has 34.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: So I went with 34 as well.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: He made it his uh his goal to take more to win more balls.
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: Uh hasn't happened yet.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: Uh so still 34, but he he he's working on it.
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: It's a work in progress, coming from someone who has who also struggles with defending.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: So there you go.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: And physicality, I went with 69.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, he's he is deceivingly strong for like how small he is, but as I said, he's pretty small, um, pretty tiny, but he's as I never loses the ball, never loses a physical duel.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: But so I still gave it a 69, and his all-round rating uh was a 90 for me.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: I think it is pretty tough with him to judge because there's a lot of stuff he's really good at that doesn't show up in these like individual stats.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: So I think he uh I have he almost traps every ball.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: You can give a really shitty pass, like a fake uh slap with like spin on it on his back end, high waist high, and he will trap it and have it dead on a stick.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: And I think that's a really uh underrated skill to have as a hockey player to trap every ball.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: Because there's a lot of people who don't trap it.
- 30:38SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure it's underrated.
- 30:39SPEAKER_03: I'd say trapping is pretty high on rating stuff, especially for a well.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: No one no one says yeah, he traps a lot of balls.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: That's like not a not a cool skill to have, but it's a very good skill to have.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: Okay, Phil thinks it's properly rated, I think it's overrated.
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: Uh, he is very smart, he always stands in the right position, he scores a shit ton of goals just by being in the right spot.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: Um, so yeah, I think a 90 is is like I think he's one of the he's top five uh in the world right now, or uh for the last couple years.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: So I think 90 is a fair uh rating.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: Um yeah, your thoughts?
- 31:16SPEAKER_03: I think you've apart from the start where you had to like run it by him, I think that is a really thought out, educated answer.
- 31:29SPEAKER_03: So I actually really agree with basically everything you've said.
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: It seems it seems pretty bang on.
- 31:35SPEAKER_03: He does have lots of like weird numbers where you'd be like, oh, maybe he's not that good, but he's unbelievably good.
- 31:41SPEAKER_03: Um and he scampers about and looks like he's he's like a he's like one of them people where you're like, Wait a minute, that guy's good, and then you're like, holy shit, that guy's really good.
- 31:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like scampering around, basically.
- 31:54SPEAKER_04: I I I only have one issue, and we've already discussed it.
- 31:58SPEAKER_04: Uh and it's more the fact that mine's rated so lowly, if that's the case of how quick he is.
- 32:03SPEAKER_04: That's all I've that's what I'm saying.
- 32:05SPEAKER_04: Other than that, yeah, agreed.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we're not going over this again randomly.
- 32:10SPEAKER_04: That's why I cut it there.
- 32:11SPEAKER_04: I just left it there.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: I think I think I did a I did a hell of a job.
- 32:16SPEAKER_04: Well, no, no, no, no, no.
- 32:19SPEAKER_04: Pretty good job.
- 32:20SPEAKER_04: I I we need to go back to this though, you to ask someone's permission is never been a remit of this podcast.
- 32:27SPEAKER_04: That's not how it's worked.
- 32:28SPEAKER_04: We've never once done it, hence why I could have gotten the doghouse last week.
- 32:31SPEAKER_04: Okay, Brendan.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: Now I want you to be honest.
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: Did you ask Maddie if we could do her card?
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: Be honest now.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: No, not at all.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: Brendan, fuck you.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: You 100%.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: You first went out and gave her incredibly high ratings, and then you went to her, oh Maddie, I've done your FIFA cards.
- 32:45SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 32:46SPEAKER_03: It's very defensive from you, you, because I genuinely did not.
- 32:49SPEAKER_03: Also, Brendan wouldn't have to ask when he's gonna give her the highest ratings any goalie's ever had on FIFA.
- 32:56SPEAKER_03: I listened to it.
- 32:58SPEAKER_03: I listened to it back today, our last week's episode, and I actually got angry at myself for not giving Brendan more shit.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: But what are you gonna do?
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: We move on.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: But the problem the problem is is when did just the best there's been, how can you rate that badly?
- 33:12SPEAKER_03: First of all, you've said that 25 million times.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: Yes, it's true.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: Well, stop saying it then.
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: We all know it, we've all said it.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: Maddie.
- 33:22SPEAKER_01: Yes, but they were still too high.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: We all agreed, but anyway, right, that's been the FIFA cards again.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: Well done, you well done, Brendan.
- 33:35SPEAKER_03: We'll be back next week with another one and back after the break.
- 33:39SPEAKER_03: Right, okay, we're on to the awards.
- 33:43SPEAKER_03: So, as I explained last week, the FIH are due to announce who the um FIH awards are going to go to.
- 33:50SPEAKER_03: So we got best men's player, best women's player, best young players, women's and men's goalies, and then coach of the year.
- 33:58SPEAKER_03: We thought it'd be fun to have a a guess at who might get nominated.
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: Um, there's a there's a couple of questions I've got before before we start.
- 34:06SPEAKER_03: Is are we going to guess who we think should get nominated, or are we gonna guess who will get nominated?
- 34:13SPEAKER_03: Because as we both know, or as we all know, we could have educated guests and then they go to some random people.
- 34:21SPEAKER_03: What do you guys think?
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: I think we can name both quite quick.
- 34:25SPEAKER_00: Agree quickly.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, agree.
- 34:28SPEAKER_03: I think um we we haven't you haven't pressed the mental reset button after we gave him some shit about the FIFA cards.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Um no, Phil, it's your job to delete this podcast, it's your job to make things clear, and you're leaving it up for debate.
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: And there's two fucked outs here who have no real say in this, so make a call and stand by it, Philip.
- 34:46SPEAKER_04: You do you.
- 34:48SPEAKER_04: Really not appreciating the negative chat, but he's got a point.
- 34:51SPEAKER_03: Let's go.
- 34:52SPEAKER_03: Okay, well, we'll go with who we think should get nominated.
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: We we've watched a decent amount of hockey.
- 34:56SPEAKER_03: I would actually state that we still haven't watched much hockey, uh, having spoke to us over the podcast.
- 35:03SPEAKER_03: And as you've said last week, he goes purely off his gut, not off uh you know stats or education.
- 35:11SPEAKER_00: And I 100% stand by it.
- 35:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I'm I'm bang on with you.
- 35:16SPEAKER_03: So, what we're gonna do here is give an uneducated guesses about who's gonna get picked based on our all of our biased views.
- 35:24SPEAKER_03: So if you want somewhere where there'll be um stats and stuff, uh you've come to the wrong place.
- 35:29SPEAKER_03: We're just going off our gut.
- 35:31SPEAKER_03: Brendan might occasionally get involved, but but we're gonna go with it.
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 35:35SPEAKER_03: Um, I'll give let's just chuck a few out there.
- 35:38SPEAKER_03: We'll start, Brendan.
- 35:39SPEAKER_03: Can you start with the women?
- 35:41SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, I can do.
- 35:43SPEAKER_04: Uh is that because I'm the one that's done the research, or no, I think you'll find I put some down.
- 35:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you did.
- 35:48SPEAKER_04: Um, so the women's players, we've got six people we think of that we think deserve to be on the list.
- 35:54SPEAKER_04: Um Xander Vard, obviously, kind of goes without saying.
- 35:58SPEAKER_04: Uh Yibby Janssen, umglebert from Belgium.
- 36:04SPEAKER_04: I thought it was Engelbert.
- 36:05SPEAKER_04: No, Onglebert, unsurprisingly, Phil.
- 36:08SPEAKER_04: We've got that one wrong because we all thought it was Engelbert for a while.
- 36:11SPEAKER_04: That old traditional British name.
- 36:13SPEAKER_04: Um, Trincinetti from Argentina, Zimmerman from Germany, and Amy Lawson from Australia.
- 36:21SPEAKER_04: Uh, I feel, and I'm probably gonna put words in your mouths, but I feel we're all gonna be in agreement that Zandavard is probably the person we think should get it.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: Any objections?
- 36:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, if I'm really if I'm really honest, I don't give a shit who else is nominated.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: I think Xander Ward should just win it hands down.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: I think it's long overdue.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: She should have won three years ago already, and the year before that, and the year before that.
- 36:42SPEAKER_00: In my opinion, she's by far the best hockey player female uh there is right now.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: Um, I think Jance is on the rise and is a really good hockey player.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: And um probably uh Angle Bert is also um like she's a good hockey player, but she she's not close to Xander Wat.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: So if Xander Wadd doesn't win it, I will I will uh start a petition for her to get some other prize.
- 37:09SPEAKER_03: We can do the other side of the coin though, can't we?
- 37:11SPEAKER_03: Because I think the what the a lot of the you know there's lots of fan votes, there's media votes.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: We actually will get a vote if we apply for one as a as a media company now.
- 37:21SPEAKER_03: So that could be very exciting.
- 37:23SPEAKER_03: We can massively mess mess up the votes.
- 37:25SPEAKER_03: But like Yibi Jansen, we all agree that she's not the best player, but she's probably got the best highlight reel and the best flick.
- 37:32SPEAKER_03: And I think that sways so many people because they spend their time on Instagram or they haven't watched the game, or maybe it's like really difficult sometimes for people to uh see the game uh as well as maybe we see it because we live and breathe it.
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: So you maybe we're seeing stuff that Xandevar does that maybe normal viewers might not.
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: Do you reckon that's a fair point or not?
- 37:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I reckon it's it's a fair point, but people just should open their eyes and fucking look a bit further than their nose is long.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: I don't know if that's an English saying, but just look at it.
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: There's it's not close.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: Look at it.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: All I'm saying.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: I think you've got a really good point.
- 38:13SPEAKER_00: I don't like angry, it's got a good point.
- 38:15SPEAKER_00: He's got a point.
- 38:16SPEAKER_00: Like, I get that it has to be like inclusive with like different nations in it as well.
- 38:21SPEAKER_00: But uh like the the the German girl Zimmermann, she's she's she shouldn't be even be on there, let's be honest.
- 38:30SPEAKER_00: Or like the Amy Lawson or whatever.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: Like, I think you you can name another two Dutch players who should be in there.
- 38:36SPEAKER_00: They fucking dominate.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: We've spoken about this a long time already.
- 38:40SPEAKER_00: They're they're by far the best team.
- 38:43SPEAKER_00: No, it's not but it's not like because it's Holland, but they're just by far the best team with by far the best players.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: We but we're not denying that.
- 38:50SPEAKER_00: It's just you're going on a rant when we just agree.
- 38:53SPEAKER_00: So yeah, but I just want to make it clear.
- 38:55SPEAKER_00: I think I think I'm I'll I will even I will even be angry if Xandova doesn't get it this year.
- 39:01SPEAKER_04: I think that's fair.
- 39:02SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: Leave that out there.
- 39:04SPEAKER_04: That's not as fair.
- 39:06SPEAKER_03: Okay, Brendan, uh goalies.
- 39:08SPEAKER_04: Uh goalies.
- 39:09SPEAKER_04: Uh we've got down uh Koning and Vienen Dahl both for Holland.
- 39:15SPEAKER_04: Uh I don't know how to pronounce this girl's name, so I'm gonna gamble on Sotgu.
- 39:20SPEAKER_04: Uh Sotgu from Belgium, uh Savita from India, Kelsey Bing from the USA, and Jocelyn Bartram from Australia.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: I I wanna I wanna and don't laugh at me.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: But the Italian goalie, she was really good at the Europeans.
- 39:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, she was, yeah, that's fair.
- 39:39SPEAKER_04: That's a good point.
- 39:40SPEAKER_04: I think she should also be nominated, and I'll she will get my vote.
- 39:44SPEAKER_04: But I I I don't feel we know enough about the women's game to really talk about which goalie's gonna win, though.
- 39:51SPEAKER_00: That's not how we roll uh Brendan.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: We just say what we think.
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: It's not it doesn't have to be based on stats or whatever, it's just on God.
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: I think he's telling you goalie should win goalie of the year.
- 40:02SPEAKER_04: Uh I was gonna go, I was genuinely gonna go with the American goalie.
- 40:05SPEAKER_04: Having watched the Pan Am's finals, she was actually really good.
- 40:08SPEAKER_04: Kelsey B.
- 40:09SPEAKER_04: She was actually really good.
- 40:09SPEAKER_03: Is that just was that just one game?
- 40:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but that's the only game I've watched where I've properly concentrated on the goalkeeper because it got peppered.
- 40:18SPEAKER_03: Because it is you does have a point going back to his thing.
- 40:21SPEAKER_03: When you know, like if you would if we're not doing it fairly, or if we're doing we're not like it's not like Make a Wish Foundation, like fundamentally, like probably the six best players, at least five of them are Dutch.
- 40:35SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, I agree.
- 40:36SPEAKER_03: I couldn't agree more.
- 40:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, surely there's like of that pot, there's the only person that's gonna win it.
- 40:41SPEAKER_00: Do you know what I mean?
- 40:42SPEAKER_00: Exactly, but I think as well with goalies, I always think it's like we can say, like, for instance, uh Anna Veinendaal should win best goalie because she probably is up there with the best goals, but she has probably made uh five saves uh all year, yeah.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: Like, like she's great, like the Italian goalie.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: Like she she got a lot of saves right there.
- 41:05SPEAKER_00: She has a good highlight reel if we're talking about highlight reel.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: So I'm yeah, I think that's what that's a tough one because yeah, as I said, the Dutch dominate so heavily.
- 41:14SPEAKER_00: I think that's a tough one to like judge.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: I I I would back maybe the Belgian goalkeeper.
- 41:21SPEAKER_04: Maybe because they've had a pretty decent summer and actually kept scores pretty low, like obviously against Holland, but then actually done really well.
- 41:28SPEAKER_04: So I don't that's what I mean.
- 41:30SPEAKER_04: I don't know enough to gamble.
- 41:32SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you just keep shrugging, Brendan.
- 41:34SPEAKER_03: I just feel like you're guessing a little bit.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: 100%.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: I've admitted it though.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: Within two minutes, he went from the American goalie back to the Belgian goalie.
- 41:42SPEAKER_00: So that's as well.
- 41:43SPEAKER_04: It's between those two for me.
- 41:44SPEAKER_04: It's between those two for me.
- 41:45SPEAKER_04: And you've gone for one that's not on the list.
- 41:47SPEAKER_04: So I went from the Italian goalie.
- 41:49SPEAKER_04: And unsurprisingly, Phil's not offered anything.
- 41:51SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna go.
- 41:52SPEAKER_03: Um, no, I'm not, I can't weigh in.
- 41:54SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 41:55SPEAKER_03: But if you were to guess, but Bartram.
- 41:58SPEAKER_03: What a what a goalie.
- 42:00SPEAKER_04: Nice.
- 42:00SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 42:01SPEAKER_03: Um, what did who did Maddie say was good?
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: I feel like she was on the pod and she said someone was good.
- 42:07SPEAKER_04: Uh I I couldn't tell you.
- 42:09SPEAKER_03: I feel like it might have been Bartram.
- 42:10SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna go and go with her.
- 42:12SPEAKER_03: Right, young player Bren.
- 42:14SPEAKER_04: Uh I I really struggled here because me and Yupe were trying to work out what the actual age range is for young players for the to be available for the reward.
- 42:24SPEAKER_04: Like, what is it?
- 42:24SPEAKER_04: And we if it's under 21, I've only got two suggestions because we lose one of them.
- 42:29SPEAKER_04: Uh, was Emily White from Belgium or Brazil?
- 42:34SPEAKER_00: Say again?
- 42:35SPEAKER_00: I think it's 22 and under or 22.
- 42:37SPEAKER_04: Oh, in which case, and Luna Fokker's the third one from Holland.
- 42:41SPEAKER_04: So then there are only really three suggestions that uh I've got, and it and if I was genuinely gonna go off, I'd probably go Emily White.
- 42:48SPEAKER_04: She's 19.
- 42:50SPEAKER_04: She scored eight goals already for Belgium seniors, which is a pretty damn decent feat.
- 42:55SPEAKER_04: Scored in the Euros as well, like had a pretty good tournament.
- 42:58SPEAKER_04: Like for me, I think that's probably the only real option, personally.
- 43:02SPEAKER_04: Uh well done, Brent.
- 43:04SPEAKER_03: Well done, Brent.
- 43:05SPEAKER_03: I think that's good.
- 43:06SPEAKER_03: I think let's be honest here.
- 43:07SPEAKER_03: Like, we don't beat around the bush.
- 43:09SPEAKER_03: We're we're we're heavily biased towards the men's side, like we we obviously know know stuff a lot better.
- 43:14SPEAKER_03: We've we're trying our best, like bear with us.
- 43:17SPEAKER_03: Brendan's holding down the fort there, and we will endeavour to be better and and get more knowledge on who should win the women's awards, but we'll we'll move it on.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: Um men's player.
- 43:28SPEAKER_03: Brendan, do you want to carry crack on?
- 43:30SPEAKER_03: You're doing a grand job.
- 43:31SPEAKER_04: Uh I can do.
- 43:32SPEAKER_04: Uh so in this category, we've we've narrowed down to eight.
- 43:35SPEAKER_04: Um, so Thierry Brinkman, Holland, Van Orbel, Belgium, Nicholas Velen, Germany.
- 43:44SPEAKER_04: Grambush, which I'm guessing is Matt's rather than Tom.
- 43:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:48SPEAKER_04: Germany.
- 43:49SPEAKER_04: Uh Zach Wallace, GB, Harman Prix.
- 43:53SPEAKER_04: I think that's just the token gesture straight in there.
- 43:55SPEAKER_04: India.
- 43:56SPEAKER_04: Uh DeHus, Holland, and Mark Morale.
- 44:00SPEAKER_04: Spain.
- 44:01SPEAKER_03: I don't agree with Morales straight up straight off the bat.
- 44:05SPEAKER_04: I'll be honest, I saw you put Max Grambush and thought I think Mark Morales deserves it more than Max Grambush after the on the year that we've just had.
- 44:12SPEAKER_04: I don't agree.
- 44:21SPEAKER_04: He's he's basically this the international team is now basically based around one guy.
- 44:26SPEAKER_04: And I think it's quite impressive the fact that he delivered.
- 44:30SPEAKER_00: They didn't do anything.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: They're a good team.
- 44:33SPEAKER_00: I give them that, and they're on the rise.
- 44:36SPEAKER_00: But they were they were fifth in the pro league or something, they were eighth in the world cup, and they were or seventh or whatever.
- 44:41SPEAKER_00: I'm just I'm just saying, I think he's I think he's been really good.
- 44:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay, they're really good, but they didn't they didn't do anything.
- 44:47SPEAKER_00: Same for Harman Priet also bullshit.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: He he's he's he had a really shit uh World Cup, let's be honest.
- 44:54SPEAKER_00: He did absolutely.
- 44:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay, but yeah, he had the yips.
- 45:00SPEAKER_00: Okay, but well, let's let's let's congratulate him with the with the nomination for world player of the year.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: If we nominate Harman Priet, I want to nominate you as well.
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: Hey, I'll take that.
- 45:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh so late.
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: No, it wasn't it was not sincere, Brandon.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: Come on, let's but let's not let's come on.
- 45:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's not like a mockery of these awards.
- 45:21SPEAKER_00: This I what I look back at who won it.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: Herman Priet has two in a row already.
- 45:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's a fucking show.
- 45:28SPEAKER_00: He had a really shit year.
- 45:29SPEAKER_00: He's a really good hockey player.
- 45:31SPEAKER_00: We we we we we're not denying that he is really good, but he had a shit year.
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: He should not be be rewarded with it.
- 45:39SPEAKER_00: India had a shit year.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they won the Asia games, but like that's also what is new.
- 45:44SPEAKER_00: Like, come on, we're not we're not Harman Priet.
- 45:47SPEAKER_00: I really like you, but we're not gonna um give you this credit.
- 45:51SPEAKER_03: Okay, and then delete him.
- 45:52SPEAKER_03: Delete him.
- 45:53SPEAKER_03: This is the discussion.
- 45:54SPEAKER_03: We haven't actually discussed this.
- 45:55SPEAKER_03: This is the first time we're discussing it.
- 45:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I've just I've just I'm I delivered the list and I've been slated for delivering the list.
- 46:01SPEAKER_03: No, but you added them.
- 46:02SPEAKER_04: You added him and Morales.
- 46:03SPEAKER_04: No, no, no.
- 46:04SPEAKER_04: Harmon Priet was you, Phil.
- 46:06SPEAKER_04: Don't even throw that my way, my friend.
- 46:08SPEAKER_04: That was not me.
- 46:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the bottom two were me, but Harman Priet was you.
- 46:11SPEAKER_03: Oh, fair enough.
- 46:12SPEAKER_03: Okay, Harman Priet was me.
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: I think I was on that whole who should who will get nominated, not who should get nominated.
- 46:18SPEAKER_00: Here is here is my here is my thing.
- 46:20SPEAKER_00: I think uh uh the top candidates are for me, uh, who will probably really win it is um Brinkman because of uh the prizes, uh like the two tournaments, uh World Cup's also in it, right?
- 46:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: Holland got third, won the Pro League, won the European.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: So I think he has a big chance to win it also on at a good year, but also on like the the the team uh performance.
- 46:47SPEAKER_03: You can I just chime in there just very quickly, is that I think it is very important because we shot down Brendan Hard that actually you you you do unfortunately, I think in this category have to be part of a successful team to even get nominated and especially win it.
- 47:03SPEAKER_03: Like Harman Priet is a is a and Manpreet also won it a few years ago when uh I think he got nominated when they hadn't played a team higher than Russia ranked, I think one year.
- 47:15SPEAKER_03: So like it's a bit of a joke, and I think in we can all collectively agree that to be one of the best players in the world, you first of all have to be successful, but you also have to be in a successful team.
- 47:24SPEAKER_03: And like you're saying, I think that is part of all of our like collective um like principles or rules of how to win this award.
- 47:34SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 47:35SPEAKER_00: So so that's why I think that the the the like uh um that it's fair that there are two Germans because they will they're world champions, the biggest tournament of 2023.
- 47:45SPEAKER_00: Um and I think two Dutch because they won two out of three tournaments that they've played, so that the two best Dutch players were also nominated.
- 47:54SPEAKER_00: I think that's fair.
- 47:55SPEAKER_00: Uh I don't know what I don't know, but I don't know who I would nominate, but there's no Australians here, but they didn't really play a they were fourth in the World Cup.
- 48:03SPEAKER_00: So um, like, are you then nominating Dawson, Tim Brandt or Tom Krake again?
- 48:09SPEAKER_00: I I don't really think so.
- 48:11SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't think they're better than anyone here.
- 48:14SPEAKER_00: I do think Gambush didn't have his like best year, but he is the captain of the world champions, he had a good World Cup.
- 48:22SPEAKER_00: Uh Vela is speaks for itself.
- 48:25SPEAKER_00: I think Van Albo is probably the best player on here, if you ask me.
- 48:30SPEAKER_00: Uh, and I think deserves to win one before he retires.
- 48:34SPEAKER_00: But Belgium didn't have their best year, so that's why I think uh he will fall out of it a bit.
- 48:39SPEAKER_03: Wallace and you you talk about like Velen like last year, Felice Albers from the women won World Player of the Year basically because of her World Cup performances.
- 48:51SPEAKER_03: So if we take that and like how highly they're gonna rate that, is that Velen basically was unstoppable, untouchable at the World Cup.
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: And I and I would be very happy if Jonas de Ghost gets nominated, because I think it's also uh was he nominated last year as well?
- 49:06SPEAKER_00: No, no, I don't think so.
- 49:09SPEAKER_00: No, I don't think so.
- 49:09SPEAKER_00: I think it's his first year being nominated.
- 49:11SPEAKER_00: I think that's also kind of not he hasn't been nominated.
- 49:14SPEAKER_03: This is our list.
- 49:16SPEAKER_00: No, I know, but like if if he gets nominated, I think it's it's fair that he gets nominated because I think he is one of the best, if not the best, midfielder, uh, together with Wallace right now.
- 49:25SPEAKER_00: Very different styles, but like I think he is uh like the engine of uh the Dutch team right now.
- 49:30SPEAKER_00: So um I think he deserves to be on it.
- 49:32SPEAKER_00: I don't think he will win just because of he doesn't have that like highlight real kind of play.
- 49:39SPEAKER_00: He's he's for me, he's like kind of like a like boosquets at football.
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: He's just he's unbelievably good, but no one really appreciates him as much as they should.
- 49:48SPEAKER_00: So uh, but yeah, I think I think we did a good job.
- 49:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I I I genuinely think like you say like Van Orbal didn't have or like Belgium didn't have the best year, but they came what second in World Cup, third in the Euros, like still got two medals out of summer, and he was a pivotal role in it.
- 50:05SPEAKER_04: I think.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but maybe their their their their like benchmark is is is a bit higher than other teams.
- 50:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, no, I'm not denying that.
- 50:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for Belgium.
- 50:13SPEAKER_04: I think to be honest, I think Vel, I think it'll be if it's Brinkman, Van Orble and Velen in the top three, and then whichever way it goes, I think if if it was me picking, I'd probably say Velen, then Brinkman, then Van Orbel.
- 50:25SPEAKER_04: If it was me picking, but actually, like if it's any rotation of those three, I think I wouldn't be surprised and I'd be pretty content with that as like a top three, if that makes sense.
- 50:35SPEAKER_04: But I think the five I'd I'd take Grambush out of it, and I'd say Brinkman, Van Orble, Vellon, Wallace, and De Hus, that's a pretty I think that's a pretty good five, and I actually think that everyone deserves it.
- 50:46SPEAKER_03: Six get nominated.
- 50:48SPEAKER_04: Oh, and then one other.
- 50:51SPEAKER_04: Um I think those five deserve to be on it, and then I think if there's one other and it is Grambush, then yeah, I think it's completely fair, but I think Velen, Van Orbal, Brinkman would be your probably your top three based on, as you say, things won, but also performances within that.
- 51:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 51:07SPEAKER_04: Um do you want to go into Young Player?
- 51:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well.
- 51:12SPEAKER_04: So Youngplayer, we I I'll be honest, I really struggle to try and think of players that have impacted it enough in the in the senior international stuff.
- 51:21SPEAKER_04: Um Hannes Muller, Duco, Tolkien Camp, and Mustafa Cassium are the three people we've got on the list, but I'll be honest with you, I think it's a I think Duco's kind of run away with it for me.
- 51:35SPEAKER_04: Um I don't think there's anybody that's gonna challenge it.
- 51:39SPEAKER_04: Um I don't think I don't think anybody else really deserves it to be honest from a young point of view.
- 51:45SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, I I I don't really I almost don't see it as a discussion.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think I think it's uh he was uh best young player at the Europeans.
- 51:55SPEAKER_00: The only tournament he played, he is he has a ridiculous average of like I think he scored more goals than he has caps right now.
- 52:02SPEAKER_00: Um so yeah, I think he's kind of the runaway guy to win it.
- 52:07SPEAKER_00: I think uh uh Kasim had a I don't know a lot about how he played for South Africa this year.
- 52:15SPEAKER_00: Uh but he he had a really good year in the Olympic year, and I don't I don't know if he's he's young enough.
- 52:20SPEAKER_00: I don't think he is to and I uh I like I was looking up, and I think there are a lot of like I for me, like guys like Time Reinger, Park, uh uh T.
- 52:29SPEAKER_00: Sprints, who are all uh 23, 24 right now.
- 52:32SPEAKER_00: So they're not eligible anymore, but those are guys who come came up with me.
- 52:36SPEAKER_00: But I don't know if there's any other young uh up and coming.
- 52:40SPEAKER_00: Like, is there the I think who gets nominated is probably the guy at your team, but I don't know if he's young enough who scored the shootout.
- 52:46SPEAKER_04: Too old.
- 52:47SPEAKER_00: Also too well.
- 52:48SPEAKER_04: Connor Williamson, too old, yeah.
- 52:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Conan Williams.
- 52:50SPEAKER_00: So I so I think it's pretty it's a pretty tough they're probably base.
- 52:54SPEAKER_00: I don't know if they can, but they'll base it on the World Cup that's this winter.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: Uh if they still can, because it's in 2023, I think, still.
- 53:03SPEAKER_00: So they can probably take that into consideration.
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: Uh, but I think it's it's a runaway job for Telgen Content, to be honest.
- 53:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's what it's how rate is how highly you're gonna rate the Europeans.
- 53:13SPEAKER_03: I think that's the question, isn't it?
- 53:15SPEAKER_03: Because he wasn't there at the World Cup and actually.
- 53:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and he played he played three pro league matches and scored five.
- 53:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:22SPEAKER_03: But I'm just saying, like, he didn't play in the world cup, and how much they're gonna take into consideration, like Hannes Muller scoring shootouts in the final and like playing a pretty big part in it.
- 53:32SPEAKER_04: We also don't know if Hannes Muller qualifies, like yeah.
- 53:36SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think we're clutching a straws a little bit here.
- 53:39SPEAKER_03: I also think we we should probably skip.
- 53:42SPEAKER_03: We did the co we did the goalies last week, basically, and gave our nice verdict.
- 53:47SPEAKER_03: Um, coaches, I think, is also like we can you can name some people, Brent, but I think it's very tough to discuss because we know very little about how they're gonna rate the coaching, and and like it's basically you know the people who've been successful again.
- 54:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but with coaching, I do think that's that's I don't I don't think it it it it will work like that, but I think coaching like um you you gotta also take in consideration what they've done for their team.
- 54:17SPEAKER_00: So with in the NBA, it's not always the uh the coach of the year is not always the one who has the best record, was also like the the the one who got his team to make the biggest leap, if that makes sense.
- 54:28SPEAKER_00: So uh like I don't know, um uh your coach Revington is his name, right?
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you also call Revs.
- 54:35SPEAKER_00: Revington is his full name.
- 54:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, like he he he did make his first final with GB in I don't know how many years, which is also quite an quite an achievement.
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: Uh like the Del May, for instance, he's doing a really good job with Holland, but like he didn't do better, uh I as in results-wise, as because we uh were European champions again, if that makes sense.
- 55:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so is that then you know what I mean?
- 55:03SPEAKER_00: So I I I think Del May is is really in the running, but it because of what they've done, and I think uh handing as well because of the uh World Cup, uh I think those will be the two to which it will go around.
- 55:16SPEAKER_00: But I think they should consider more like if you if you if you let Chile make their first appearance on the on the Olympics, I think that should be rated as high as winning a European title with Holland for for instance, if that makes sense.
- 55:29SPEAKER_04: I agree.
- 55:30SPEAKER_04: I think that's pretty I think that's what that's that's why I added so I added Raoul Aron, the Belgian coach.
- 55:35SPEAKER_04: I thought he's trying he's trying to make the jump for Belgium to be that second big team, and I think he's done I think he's genuinely done really good stuff for Belgium on that front.
- 55:45SPEAKER_04: Um and I also added Alison Annan because China qualified as winners of the um Asian route to the uh Olympics, which I think is quite a cool thing as well.
- 55:54SPEAKER_04: Like I think that's quite unique as well for them to qualify that way rather than have to go through the qualifiers.
- 56:00SPEAKER_04: So I think that actually what they those guys are achieving with those teams is the reason I added them in the list.
- 56:05SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: Like you should nominate Balf Noss because they've won everything they could have won, but I don't think he's like what he what he's done is less impressive than what uh Ellison Enden has done, if that makes sense.
- 56:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 100%.
- 56:16SPEAKER_03: So we yeah, I think that's a pretty good way to round it off.
- 56:20SPEAKER_03: We've done a fairly comprehensive work on the awards there.
- 56:23SPEAKER_03: We'll see, I guess, in the next week or two what comes out, whether we're anywhere near right or probably completely wrong.
- 56:30SPEAKER_03: Um I think it's we're gonna have to move straight on to in the coupon with you.
- 56:38SPEAKER_03: We might do confessions next week because we are running out of time.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 56:45SPEAKER_00: Um welcome in my group again.
- 56:50SPEAKER_00: Um you kind of put me off guard here first, so I have to look for my group question.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: Here we go!
- 56:55SPEAKER_03: First question in the group.
- 56:57SPEAKER_03: Can I can I can I chime in straight away because Maz um James Mazarello listens avidly and was giving me a lot of chat this morning straight away because I obviously called him out last week about the£100,000 to score a shootout against the best uh shootout goalie.
- 57:13SPEAKER_03: And he was like, Let's do it.
- 57:15SPEAKER_03: What do you want to put on it?
- 57:16SPEAKER_03: One shootout, me and you, and then we were trying to work out what we could do.
- 57:20SPEAKER_03: Maybe on our next trip, if one of us has got a middle aisle seat to like Argentina, we've got to like swap it.
- 57:27SPEAKER_03: So watch this space.
- 57:28SPEAKER_03: I'll let you know how it goes.
- 57:29SPEAKER_00: That's big that.
- 57:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, see this the coupe is such a great place, it brings out new discussions, brings out wages.
- 57:38SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 57:39SPEAKER_00: Okay, um, first question, and I gave you time to prepare, so if you didn't, fuck you both.
- 57:45SPEAKER_00: Um who do you think would be an awesome player to room with during a tournament?
- 57:50SPEAKER_00: And all nationalities are allowed.
- 57:52SPEAKER_00: Like, who would you like think?
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's a funny guy to stay with, to hang with.
- 57:59SPEAKER_04: I've got I've got two from our nation.
- 58:03SPEAKER_04: Okay, but I'll I'll go I'll go elsewhere for you.
- 58:05SPEAKER_04: I'll go elsewhere.
- 58:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, okay, thank you.
- 58:07SPEAKER_04: Uh, I think that me and you, you, would be utter carnage and should never happen if we were away on a trip because I feel we're so up and down that it's only gonna end in one place, and that's a bad place.
- 58:20SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty up most of the time, Lendon, but okay.
- 58:24SPEAKER_04: Um, Jesus Lord.
- 58:26SPEAKER_04: Oh my god, be so up and down.
- 58:29SPEAKER_04: Uh wow, this is tough.
- 58:31SPEAKER_04: Uh, I I genuinely, and this is this is gonna sound like I'm real ass licking here, but genuinely the carrot farmer for me, I think would be so chilled out as a human being, it would be the easiest person to room with, and it would be quite enjoyable.
- 58:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I can vouch for you.
- 58:45SPEAKER_00: He's my roomie uh every tournament.
- 58:48SPEAKER_00: He is he is really funny.
- 58:49SPEAKER_00: He does, as I as I've said multi times, he has a real good skill in getting under your skin.
- 58:55SPEAKER_00: Um, and he he likes to uh have practical jokes quite a lot, which can be quite annoying.
- 59:01SPEAKER_00: So uh good luck with that.
- 59:03SPEAKER_00: But he's really funny and chilled, that's true.
- 59:06SPEAKER_03: Phil?
- 59:06SPEAKER_03: You know, sorry, just before we go on, I just I was thinking of really good roommates for Brendan, and then I was like, I think I'd really like to see Brendan and Charter room together.
- 59:17SPEAKER_03: Um to see Brendan try and talk to him in um in orc or whatever it is.
- 59:25SPEAKER_03: I think you'd be so scared, Brendan, you wouldn't know what to say, and I'd I'd pay good money to submit.
- 59:31SPEAKER_04: Do you know what?
- 59:32SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna give him any chat.
- 59:33SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna give him any.
- 59:34SPEAKER_04: I think he'd be I think it'd be great.
- 59:36SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna give any chat.
- 59:38SPEAKER_04: With who?
- 59:39SPEAKER_04: Andrew Charter, goalkeeper.
- 59:41SPEAKER_00: Oh, I thought we'd I thought Mark Knowles from Brendan.
- 59:45SPEAKER_04: I'll be honest with you, I don't think I'm ever leaving that room if I'm sharing with Mark Knowles because I think he's broken me.
- 59:52SPEAKER_03: Last year in actually just on this, last year in Argentina, we had a um, we were staying in a fairly interesting hotel in Argentina, and we we started a thing at the bottom of the corridor where it was like a really weird corridor.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_03: It started off really wide and like airy and clean and bright, and it kind of got narrower and narrower towards the bottom, and it got dark and dingy, and there was like four rooms down there, and it was incredibly easy to break into each other's rooms, and it started we started calling it silly buggers, and I was rooming with Shippo, and by the end of the trip, you could break into anyone's room with a different room key.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_03: Basically, you were terrified every time you went into your own room because you didn't know if anyone was in there.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_03: We got a man-made person, they dressed up, they like stuffed Shippo's kit full of like towels and stuff, and made a human out of his like playing kit, and then like coming in in the dark and seeing this outline of Shippo's playing kit was pretty terrifying.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_03: I hid in Soresby's room for about 15 minutes post-training to try and scare the shit out of him.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_03: That was pretty good.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_04: Um I've got two things to add to this.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_04: One of the boys broke into one of the rooms and turned off their aircon, so the room got to about 35 degrees.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_04: It's when they got back, obviously, absolutely stinking hot.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_04: But they also called it the favelas.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_04: It was known as the favelas to the boys down the bottom.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_04: So thankfully, me being further up, I never got involved in this.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_04: I managed to watch all the carnage unfold as people are sprinting around the corridor trying to get to each other's rooms.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_03: We got Brendan involved fully because um to every meal time we break into Brendan's room, bring him an item that was in his room uh down to his meal time.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_03: So that was quite nice as well.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that was anyway.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_03: Sorry, I went off on a tangent.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_00: No, I like this is what the co this is what the coop does to people.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_00: Makes them go to their fantasy places and shit.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_00: Who would you room with Philip?
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_00: Because you'd haven't said a name.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_03: No, I was I was thinking like I'd I'd like to room with um Manpre Manny from uh India just because I'd I'd I'd like to live his life for a day.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_03: Like I reckon I could tag along and do some cool shit.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_03: He's actually such a great guy.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_03: Every time I see him, he treats me like I'm his brother.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_03: It's like uh it's a really warm, warm feeling that I get from him.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_03: And so it's a bit soft, but you know, many.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_04: If you want to hit me up, share together.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Olympics, I'm sure we can work it out.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_03: Depending on that's nice.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_00: That's nice.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was I was yeah, I was thinking in the in the the the obvious answer for me was Samford.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_00: I think he he would he's like an idol to me, so he would be really funny.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_04: He is he is one of the funniest people to share with.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_00: So that's why I would I would I would like to share with Sanford, I think.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_00: Um or with uh Albrey, because I I I think he is uh almost as much into golf, or maybe even more as me.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_00: So we think we have a shitload to talk about.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_00: So him or uh like I gotta go English here.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_00: If I cannot, like I'm I'm taking you two out of the equation.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_00: Um, even if you guys were in the equation, you wouldn't have not made it, but like I still wanted to say that.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_03: Um, but I think I would go Albury or um who would you least like to share with?
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that was my other question.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: Who would you who do you think you would be an awful player uh to the room with during the tournament?
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_00: So, like as we already said, I think Brendan and me would be a terrible combination.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_00: Um I I like for me, immediately the goalies come up.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they smell, man.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because of the smell of their kit and shit.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, like they have a different schedule also with like different training, and I always need like it's funny.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_00: What and me are on are in a room together, we're both very unstructured, so we kind of try to help each other.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_00: But I feel like goalies have like different schedules and shit, so they uh so you have to help yourself, yeah.
- 1:03:58SPEAKER_00: So I think that's like uh for so I I'm thinking a goalie probably.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_03: Um it's also really interesting that you say that because you get into when you room with loads of different people, it's a pretty weird life we live, isn't it?
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_03: Like you grow men and you go and have to room with someone for like two or three weeks at a time and share your life with them.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_03: But like you either really fit because you're like saying we're in a structure, we work together, or you really don't.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_03: Like, and it's not really a problem, but like I like to be active like pretty much all the time.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_03: I don't sit on my bed very much.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_03: I like to do stuff, be like, oh, yeah, I'm gonna go for coffee, play some corridor cricket.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_03: Do you want to do something?
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_03: Some people just hate that with a passion.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_03: They just Sanford is a is a prime example.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_03: I want nothing to do with anything.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna sit on my bed, play my games, do my thing.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_00: So when you come with them, it wouldn't be a good combination because I'm um like I'm never in my room.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_00: That's why Woto and me are a perfect combination because we're both never in the room.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_00: Room room doors almost always open, but like no, because no one's ever there.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_00: So that's like our thing because we also lose the room key at least seven times a tournament, so then we we just leave it open all the time and don't give a shit if someone takes something.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_00: Uh, I also think the I wouldn't like the social media uh uh horny guys.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_00: So, like uh for me, Alexander Hendrix, who's like very into social media, he could probably gets a shitload of money for it, and I think fair play to him, but he will probably be on his I will end up on a story which I don't like, uh like Felix de Naij or uh uh uh Thijs van Dammer is very social media uh minded.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_00: So I think guys like that uh I wouldn't like Thijs van Damme I would like though, because he's he's he's actually a really nice guy, but like the the the social media ones that's also not my my shtick.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you get sucked into it and have to be in their social media.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you have to act all nice and and uh be there and be like, Oh, I want a story again.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_00: I don't like that.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_03: When Calnan gets you, he I like room with him very early doors into his international career.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_03: And he loves doing the filters.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_03: So you'll just be on your bed and he'll come up to you and like do the like a like a filter of you as a French person.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_03: And then he's like, come on, do a French accent.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_03: And I was like, what the fuck?
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_03: I was like, oh wee wee.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_03: And then you're like, nah, I'm uncomfortable.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_03: What's going on?
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_03: And you never know what's next with him.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_04: So he's he's one of the like the most entertaining people.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_04: But if you're sharing a room with him, I I don't think I could cope that well with him, but I love spending time in his room with him.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_04: It's so funny.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_04: He during the Euros, he had a guitar with him and he was playing Spanish songs the whole time, knowing full well that the Spanish were a floor below us, just playing it, singing, got his ass out in the windows, like full on, like just a just a nutter, but like so good for the group on that front.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_04: But I could never share with him.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_04: I don't think, but I love spending time with him.
- 1:06:48SPEAKER_00: Do we want another question in the coup?
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, one more.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_00: One more?
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_00: You can choose.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_00: Do we want a hockey one or one a bullshit one?
- 1:06:56SPEAKER_00: Your call.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_00: You guys know what it's gonna be.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_00: Um okay now.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_00: I'll do I'll do one.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_00: Um would you rather go streaking during a Premier League game?
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_00: Football, or miss a stroke during the Olympic final?
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_03: Is that a football Premier League game?
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you said Liverpool, Liverpool, Everton.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_04: Oh Jesus, that's Phil.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_04: Tell you what, as an Everton fan, Phil, what are you saying?
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_04: Oh shit, that's a disgusting question.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_04: That's a really tough question.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_04: Oh god.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_04: Are you allowed to cover up when you streak, or do you have to go hands away?
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_04: Oh, fantastic news.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_03: Uh hmm.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_03: What's the score in the Olympics?
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_00: Because if we're six now, that's that's the that's the that's the gamble you have to take.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_00: You can either be two-two with a minute to play and you get a stroke.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_00: You could you could also be eight-one up in the Olympic final and it doesn't you you give a shit you're already one goal, but you could also be three-two down.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_00: Like that's that's the gamble you're now taking.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_00: Because otherwise it's too easy.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_00: I think if I'm honest, I think like the your heart says I go streaking, but I think you'd rather miss a stroke if you're really honest.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_00: I think your head says this stroke, like streaking, it's being butt naked.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't like Phil.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_00: You have kind of a okay body, like I don't have the body to pull that off.
- 1:08:25SPEAKER_00: Like, even I have a great cock, but like not a not a good body other.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_00: So I think like the heart says the heart says go streaking, you make that make that stroke.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_00: But the head says, miss that stroke.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_04: I I I'm I'm with you.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_04: I don't think I can afford to be seen streaking.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_04: In life, everything that goes with it, I just don't think I've I don't think I can afford to do it.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_04: I think I could take missing the stroke more, which says a lot.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm with you.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_04: It's the it's the heart but the head.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_04: It's that is exactly that.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_04: The heart says one, but yeah, realistically.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_02: I think what what's also gonna haunt you for longer?
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_02: I don't even know.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_02: I'm not even sure about that.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_04: I know full well what is, is my ass slapped all over the flipping front page of the news, mate.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_04: I'm not taking that.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_04: I don't think I can live with that.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_04: At least hockey's a small enough sport that only people in hockey would know.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, I mean, it's a fantastic end to the coop.
- 1:09:24SPEAKER_03: And and actually, unfortunately, we're gonna we're gonna have to call it a day there.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_03: It's been a very actually long episode.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_03: Well done if you've made it this far.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_03: It's been quite serious.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_03: I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_03: I'm sure I'm gonna be told by these two it's a good thing.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_03: Um, thank you for the one.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_00: Let people also send in their shit or hits for next week.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_03: Yeah, send in your shit or hits, send in your suggestions.
- 1:09:45SPEAKER_03: What do you think of um the awards guesses?
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_03: What do you think of our suggested changes to the rules and formats?
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_03: Um, does Brendan remind you of Neil from The In Between Us?
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_03: Is that a crazy shout?
