- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast is recorded on gadigal Land Always was, always
- 0:03Speaker 1: will be Aboriginal Land.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Hey chicks, I'm sal and.
- 0:13Speaker 3: I'm now and this is two broke Chicks to show
- 0:15Speaker 3: that shares life lessons and tips to help make you
- 0:18Speaker 3: rich in life. And today we're chatting affordable swaps that
- 0:22Speaker 3: don't break the bank.
- 0:23Speaker 1: I'm so keen, I'm ready.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Yeah, but first let's share our obsessions of the week.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Do you want to kick us off?
- 0:30Speaker 1: I would love to. And my obsession of the week
- 0:34Speaker 1: is my jummies from cotton On, yes, which I recently
- 0:40Speaker 1: posted a story in them and there were so many
- 0:42Speaker 1: cues about them. And they're these pink and red jarmis
- 0:47Speaker 1: from cotton On. To be honest, bitspenny of a price
- 0:50Speaker 1: tag for cotton On, but they've got thirty percent off now,
- 0:53Speaker 1: so if you want them now, go get them, because
- 0:55Speaker 1: they're actually on tail. They are so comfy, they're so lightweight,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and whenever it's time to wash them, I like wash
- 1:03Speaker 1: and dry them in the same day so that I
- 1:05Speaker 1: can wear them again that night, Like the cotton On
- 1:07Speaker 1: pajamas this year, and the slippers and the cute little
- 1:11Speaker 1: mugs and shit like and candles and shit like that slaying.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I'm obsessed with it.
- 1:16Speaker 2: They're really popping off.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Yes, and like everyone on TikTok is also obsessed with them,
- 1:20Speaker 1: and brightly so.
- 1:21Speaker 3: And I love those pjs because we both have them
- 1:23Speaker 3: and they're like a pink gait.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I both have them sound because IL brought them.
- 1:26Speaker 3: For me with those cherry slippers that I recommended the
- 1:29Speaker 3: other week as well, which are also very cute.
- 1:31Speaker 1: You've been wearing them?
- 1:32Speaker 3: I've been wearing both of them heat, but I've been
- 1:34Speaker 3: wearing the slippers like a lot.
- 1:35Speaker 2: But the pj's are so cute.
- 1:37Speaker 3: They're like a pink and white Gingham with a red trim,
- 1:40Speaker 3: which I love because it feels festive. But you can
- 1:44Speaker 3: really wear them all year round, like they're not actually
- 1:46Speaker 3: a Christmas pajama, but they tick that box as well
- 1:49Speaker 3: if you're wanting a bit more of a festive PJ
- 1:51Speaker 3: but you don't want to only wear them in November
- 1:53Speaker 3: and December.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yeah, And I've washed and dried them quite a number
- 1:56Speaker 1: of times, and I still feel like they're in really
- 1:59Speaker 1: good condition. I don't know how. Sometimes you buy pajamas
- 2:02Speaker 1: or undies or like items like that and as soon
- 2:05Speaker 1: as you wash them like three times, they're like the
- 2:06Speaker 1: smart yeah, like pulling apart.
- 2:10Speaker 2: I feel like they feel softer with each wash. I
- 2:13Speaker 2: don't know, that might just be me.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I love them and every time I wear them someone
- 2:16Speaker 1: compliments them. M so ten out of ten.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Yeah cute, Okay.
- 2:21Speaker 3: My obsession of the week is a wholesome TikTok wreck
- 2:25Speaker 3: and it's Jess Waterhouse.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Have you seen them on TikTok?
- 2:29Speaker 3: Probably they're an AFL player with like this gorgeous blonde mullet,
- 2:35Speaker 3: which I feel like is what makes just like the
- 2:37Speaker 3: most recognizable. But their content is just so so wholesome.
- 2:42Speaker 3: One of the series that they often do is that
- 2:44Speaker 3: they'll ask their partner. They'll be like, I don't know
- 2:46Speaker 3: what to have for breakfast, so I asked my wife
- 2:48Speaker 3: what to have, and she always comes back being like, oh,
- 2:51Speaker 3: so we've got blueberries and then we've we've still got
- 2:54Speaker 3: some bread left, so like make this and blah blah,
- 2:56Speaker 3: and it's just so cute. And then Jess goes and
- 2:58Speaker 3: makes a recipe out like the things that their wife
- 3:01Speaker 3: has suggested, and.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I don't know, just popped up on my FYP and
- 3:06Speaker 2: obviously loved it.
- 3:07Speaker 3: So it's been popping up more and more, and then
- 3:09Speaker 3: I followed, and I think that if you want to
- 3:12Speaker 3: create an FYP that's super wholesome and c chuck Jess
- 3:16Speaker 3: a follow.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I have two additional points to that. One. I just
- 3:21Speaker 1: love that when you find something that you like, you
- 3:25Speaker 1: were like all in.
- 3:27Speaker 3: I'm a hyper fixation girlie for sure, But I honestly
- 3:31Speaker 3: don't think it was a coincidence that I don't think
- 3:33Speaker 3: I've shared this on the podcast, not that it's anything revealing,
- 3:36Speaker 3: but my hyperfixation this winter was the NRL.
- 3:39Speaker 2: And I think that.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Because I was watching more sport content, that's why Jess's
- 3:43Speaker 3: content came up on my TikTok.
- 3:45Speaker 2: So yeah, it's really flowed in.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I just love I love when you find something new,
- 3:49Speaker 1: whether it's like a YouTube series or like a creator
- 3:53Speaker 1: or a book, like you just become the biggest fan
- 3:57Speaker 1: girl of it in like the best way possible because
- 3:59Speaker 1: like it, like you freely allow it to bring you
- 4:03Speaker 1: so much Jay, and I just I love watching you
- 4:05Speaker 1: be like like talking about it, like just yaughing, and
- 4:10Speaker 1: it's just so cute. The other thing that I saw
- 4:14Speaker 1: on top of that is a tip to reset your
- 4:17Speaker 1: cash and your for you page so that you can
- 4:20Speaker 1: reset it to realign with what you want to see,
- 4:24Speaker 1: because you know how sometimes you watch your TikTok for
- 4:27Speaker 1: you page and you're like, what the fuck?
- 4:29Speaker 2: Who's been scrolling?
- 4:31Speaker 1: You're like, who was mumbling into my phone? So I
- 4:34Speaker 1: don't care about So you can go into your settings
- 4:37Speaker 1: and you can reset your cage and you can also
- 4:40Speaker 1: reset your for you page and it helps reset the algorithm.
- 4:44Speaker 1: And what it will do is it gives you popular
- 4:46Speaker 1: videos again, kind of like when you first download it,
- 4:49Speaker 1: and then you can like and interact and reset algorithm
- 4:53Speaker 1: and recurate your algorithm to be what you want to watch.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Again, do all your likes disappear?
- 5:00Speaker 1: No? But you can also put in some other settings
- 5:04Speaker 1: as well, So for example, you can like restrict certain
- 5:07Speaker 1: types of content, certain types of words. You can also
- 5:11Speaker 1: like delete your downloads to free up space on your phone.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I did that and I got like four gigs back.
- 5:17Speaker 2: That's a good hat.
- 5:17Speaker 1: So yeah, it's a good reminder to kind of go
- 5:20Speaker 1: into your TikTok settings and give that a little digital detox.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I love that.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Especially in recent weeks, I think there's lots of content
- 5:29Speaker 3: punning around that I don't necessarily want to say, yeah,
- 5:32Speaker 3: I reset my for you page a couple months ago,
- 5:34Speaker 3: and I will say, like, the first two days, you're
- 5:37Speaker 3: getting everything, like everything that's probably on TikTok that you're like.
- 5:41Speaker 1: What, what in the fuck knuckles is this? But then
- 5:46Speaker 1: you'll get one that you're like, Yep, yeah, that's good,
- 5:48Speaker 1: that's good that on that one's show me more of
- 5:50Speaker 1: that and that's the vibe. But yeah, there's somebodyo that
- 5:53Speaker 1: you're like, hey, have you seen how many like views has?
- 5:55Speaker 1: And you're like, what you just realized? Anyway, good obsessions
- 6:01Speaker 1: play obsessions if you will.
- 6:02Speaker 3: All right, let's get into our affordable swaps. My first
- 6:11Speaker 3: affordable swap is a hair tip because for many years,
- 6:15Speaker 3: maybe like ten years, I used to dye my hair
- 6:17Speaker 3: jet black, and I thought that that was the most
- 6:19Speaker 3: affordable way to do my hair because you know, you
- 6:23Speaker 3: don't really have to do like highlights or anything. People
- 6:26Speaker 3: always say that going blonde is a lot more expensive
- 6:28Speaker 3: than going darker, but for me, I was having to
- 6:31Speaker 3: dye my hair a lot because my hair is quite
- 6:34Speaker 3: fair in the root, and I would look like I
- 6:36Speaker 3: was bolding basically, or.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Had like a receding hairline.
- 6:41Speaker 3: So I eventually was like, this is too much effort,
- 6:44Speaker 3: it's too much money. I'm going to start going back
- 6:47Speaker 3: to my natural color. But I still wanted to have
- 6:51Speaker 3: something different and go blonde.
- 6:53Speaker 2: And I didn't.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Realize that I had a name. But it's Recession brunette,
- 6:58Speaker 3: which is something that has pop up a few times.
- 7:01Speaker 3: I think two thousand and eight was one of the
- 7:04Speaker 3: first times we heard it, but of course it's popped
- 7:06Speaker 3: up again in recent years because of cozy lives. Basically,
- 7:10Speaker 3: it's like embracing your natural root and having a more
- 7:14Speaker 3: lived in color.
- 7:15Speaker 4: For me, that my natural root with a blonde baliage.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Because I often will go six to twelve months without
- 7:23Speaker 3: getting any touch ups on my hair. I will say
- 7:27Speaker 3: full disclosure. This year we've had a few things on.
- 7:29Speaker 3: You know, we went to Europe, we had the live shows.
- 7:31Speaker 3: So I've got my hair done twice.
- 7:33Speaker 2: In the last year.
- 7:34Speaker 3: And I got a DM from a chick a while
- 7:36Speaker 3: ago being like, what do you get done.
- 7:38Speaker 2: With your hair?
- 7:39Speaker 3: Because it always looks like it's so freshly done. And
- 7:43Speaker 3: I think that embracing your natural root and going with
- 7:46Speaker 3: something that you can have more of a lived in
- 7:48Speaker 3: look is a really easy hack for that because you
- 7:52Speaker 3: can still get your hair done, get it freshened up,
- 7:54Speaker 3: feel like, you know, you're taking care of yourself or
- 7:56Speaker 3: doing something for you, but you don't have to go
- 7:59Speaker 3: get your hair done every four weeks and get your
- 8:01Speaker 3: roots redone, you know, every four weeks.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Yeh, to stay on top of it.
- 8:05Speaker 3: And it has saved me so much time and so
- 8:09Speaker 3: much money in the long run.
- 8:10Speaker 1: It's such a great tip one so that you don't
- 8:12Speaker 1: have to go to the hair salon. But it's just
- 8:14Speaker 1: so wild that like that's the name.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 8:16Speaker 3: I don't know if it's like a bit insensitive or something,
- 8:19Speaker 3: but lived in blonde or but.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel that Like when I was copper and
- 8:24Speaker 1: like my luckily enough my head grows really quickly Italian jeans,
- 8:29Speaker 1: but fuck me, it would be like two weeks and
- 8:31Speaker 1: I would have very growth, and I was like, I
- 8:33Speaker 1: don't want.
- 8:33Speaker 2: To go back to the salon.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, I love that. Good tips here, but
- 8:39Speaker 1: also do whatever you want of.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Course, of course that's just a tip that saved.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Me so personally.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Okay, so our next one in affordable swaps to save
- 8:49Speaker 1: you money is to shop, men's and thrift so it's
- 8:54Speaker 1: kind of like a double whammy. But the pink tax
- 8:57Speaker 1: refers to the price difference that exists on similar or
- 9:00Speaker 1: identical items depending on the gender they're marketed to. So
- 9:05Speaker 1: most of you will probably have already heard of this
- 9:08Speaker 1: and felt the price tag that comes with it. But
- 9:12Speaker 1: a super common example, so for Gellette Sensitive Skin Smoothing
- 9:16Speaker 1: shave Gel for men was seven dollars fifty Gellette Sensitive
- 9:20Speaker 1: Skin Soothing shave Gel for women was eight dollars for
- 9:25Speaker 1: basically the same product, but they're just marketed to different people.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Think you also did a.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Comparison on a designer's site once, didn't you.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Yeah, we mentioned it on the show, I think once
- 9:34Speaker 3: or twice. Yeah, and it was the exact same item,
- 9:38Speaker 3: but in the men's section it was significantly cheaper than
- 9:41Speaker 3: it was when it was in the women's section, but
- 9:43Speaker 3: it was essentially the same item. But yeah, I think
- 9:46Speaker 3: those are common examples that we see across like raisors
- 9:49Speaker 3: and hair products.
- 9:51Speaker 2: But yeah, that shaving gel was just one example that I.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Saw that I was like, these are literally the exact
- 9:56Speaker 3: same product products. I think they both were like an
- 9:59Speaker 3: Alvira sensitive skin shaving gel. But one was in like
- 10:02Speaker 3: a black and green bottle or something, and one was
- 10:05Speaker 3: in a white and pink. I was like, huh, they
- 10:07Speaker 3: were like the same size and everything.
- 10:09Speaker 2: It was bizarre.
- 10:11Speaker 4: But another example that recently went.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Viral on TikTok from the creator It's just Millie. She
- 10:18Speaker 3: was comparing the price of mugs at Big w and
- 10:22Speaker 3: saw that while most of the neutral colored mugs were
- 10:25Speaker 3: priced at three dollars fifty, the pink mug in the
- 10:28Speaker 3: section was priced.
- 10:29Speaker 2: At five dollars.
- 10:31Speaker 3: I did go on their website and noticed that the
- 10:33Speaker 3: price of the mug has been brought down to three
- 10:35Speaker 3: dollars fifty.
- 10:37Speaker 2: But this is just one example of.
- 10:39Speaker 3: How a product targeted at women has a higher price tag.
- 10:43Speaker 2: For no apparent reason.
- 10:45Speaker 1: And that's why whenever we go shopping quite often a
- 10:50Speaker 1: lot of our clothes are men's clothes because we like
- 10:55Speaker 1: to thrift, like we like to go vintage shopping quite often,
- 10:58Speaker 1: secondhand shopping. Sabers in Darlinghurst that just opened up. If
- 11:02Speaker 1: you haven't been and you live in Sydney, please go.
- 11:05Speaker 1: It is literally fucking amazing And like basically I would say,
- 11:12Speaker 1: like ninety percent of my jackets are like men's jackets
- 11:15Speaker 1: because they're just they're made better. You've got more pockets,
- 11:20Speaker 1: you've got lining, it's got more structure to it. And
- 11:25Speaker 1: so often there are so many things, even T shirts,
- 11:27Speaker 1: like men's T shirts, they're thicker, Yeah, like the crew necks,
- 11:31Speaker 1: like the just the plain T shirt. You'll find the
- 11:33Speaker 1: material is thicker, or it's more often made from cotton
- 11:38Speaker 1: or natural fibers because men sweat more.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Or whatever it is.
- 11:43Speaker 1: But I just always now typically look at men's stuff
- 11:46Speaker 1: as well in the same sections if there's like a
- 11:48Speaker 1: crossover or like with razors, are buy men's razors.
- 11:52Speaker 4: Yeah, it's basically the exact same thing.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Yeah, So like look to see if there's an alternate
- 11:57Speaker 1: that you can swap out, that is an item that's
- 12:00Speaker 1: that does not need to be fucking gendered. Yeah, and
- 12:03Speaker 1: often and unfortunately you do save money.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 12:08Speaker 3: My next affordable swap is to be strategic at the supermarket.
- 12:13Speaker 3: So I think there's a few ways that you can
- 12:14Speaker 3: do this. For example, one that we've spoken about quite
- 12:17Speaker 3: a bit on the show. Alex and I are strategic
- 12:20Speaker 3: about where we do our grocery shopping because we want
- 12:23Speaker 3: to earn points and we want to maximize the number
- 12:26Speaker 3: of points that we earn, so you know, we'll look
- 12:28Speaker 3: for the deals where we can boost our points, or
- 12:31Speaker 3: we always shop at the same supermarkets to make sure
- 12:33Speaker 3: that we're consistently earning points that you know, you can
- 12:37Speaker 3: either use to save money off at your shop or
- 12:39Speaker 3: so that we can transfer them to frequent flyer points
- 12:42Speaker 3: to fingers Cross save money off some travel in the future,
- 12:46Speaker 3: we'll get a cheeky little upgrade.
- 12:48Speaker 2: But there are so many different strategies that you can use.
- 12:51Speaker 3: I think it's just knowing that you have them in
- 12:53Speaker 3: your arsenal and picking one.
- 12:55Speaker 4: Another one that we often use is shopping.
- 12:58Speaker 1: By the sale section of the website.
- 13:00Speaker 3: And building your recipes around the discounted items instead of
- 13:05Speaker 3: just buying what you always buy and not paying attention
- 13:07Speaker 3: to that kind of thing, and then also potentially swapping supermarkets.
- 13:13Speaker 3: So this year, Choice sent mystery shoppers to compare prices
- 13:17Speaker 3: of fourteen common grocery items in one hundred and four
- 13:21Speaker 3: supermarkets across Australia in June, and it was really interesting
- 13:26Speaker 3: because they showed how the cost of the average basket
- 13:29Speaker 3: of groceries differed across some of our biggest grocers. So
- 13:34Speaker 3: for example, at Coal's this costs sixty nine dollars and
- 13:38Speaker 3: ninety six cents. At Woolworths it costs sixty eight dollars
- 13:43Speaker 3: and seventy cents, and at Ald it costs fifty dollars
- 13:47Speaker 3: and seventy nine cents. So buying a basket of groceries
- 13:51Speaker 3: at Ald was eighteen dollars cheaper compared to the same
- 13:55Speaker 3: items at some of the other supermarkets.
- 13:59Speaker 2: And I think it's just as.
- 14:00Speaker 3: What your strategy is and what your value is and
- 14:04Speaker 3: shopping in a line to that.
- 14:05Speaker 4: If it's for points, that's great.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Remember that every time you go and do your supermarket
- 14:11Speaker 3: shopping and have that front of mine. If it's saving
- 14:15Speaker 3: money at the checkout, immediately look for those discounted items
- 14:19Speaker 3: or see where you could perhaps shop somewhere that is
- 14:22Speaker 3: a little bit more affordable and you can save some money.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Love that. Ever since I've figured out my why with
- 14:28Speaker 1: grocery shopping, I definitely feel a little bit less resentful
- 14:31Speaker 1: towards it totally, Like I just look at it and
- 14:34Speaker 1: I'm like, at least I am getting some sort of
- 14:38Speaker 1: reward back from that money, because let's be honest, like
- 14:42Speaker 1: even if you are shopping at ald which I do
- 14:44Speaker 1: definitely do sometimes as well, it's still fucking expensive. It's
- 14:48Speaker 1: all fucking expensive. Yeah. So if I'm at least getting
- 14:50Speaker 1: rewards that I get to cash in later and save
- 14:52Speaker 1: money on something, then I'm like, okay, yeah, I'm still
- 14:54Speaker 1: getting something.
- 14:55Speaker 3: Well, you're rewarding yourself for money that you're already going
- 14:58Speaker 3: to spend.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, our next affordable swap that doesn't break the bank.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Is my new saying in my head that I go,
- 15:09Speaker 1: do I like it or do I just need to
- 15:10Speaker 1: feel something, which a lot of the term I just
- 15:14Speaker 1: need to feel something.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Specifically dover mean yep.
- 15:19Speaker 1: So I just I love fashion and I love beauty,
- 15:23Speaker 1: and I think like it can get really really easy
- 15:26Speaker 1: to get wrapped up in the new shiny thing, like
- 15:29Speaker 1: it's how it's built. It's literally how the whole thing
- 15:31Speaker 1: is built. Market it's marketing, baby, And so I think
- 15:34Speaker 1: like I am one of the most easily influenced humans
- 15:38Speaker 1: in the entire world. Like if someone's like this is amazing,
- 15:41Speaker 1: I'm like give it today, And I do really, and
- 15:43Speaker 1: I have been so much better at not falling into that.
- 15:48Speaker 1: But I do think there are moments that I do
- 15:50Speaker 1: just like really like to have a little shop where
- 15:52Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, yeah, I want that. I like that.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Even the other day I was like, I'm a little
- 15:56Speaker 1: butterfly clips for my head, like in my fringe back. Yeah.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Then I was like on Amazon and then I put
- 16:01Speaker 1: like five things in my basket and I was.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Like, hah yeah, and I was like, what are you doing.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like when you walk into Kmart for one
- 16:07Speaker 3: thing and then you come out with exactein like have
- 16:10Speaker 3: blacked out.
- 16:11Speaker 4: Yes.
- 16:11Speaker 1: So I started building out a pre purchase routine, so
- 16:18Speaker 1: it's things to do before you buy something to know
- 16:21Speaker 1: whether or not you want to buy it. And I
- 16:23Speaker 1: wanted to share this because I feel like for Black
- 16:25Speaker 1: Friday and sale season, this will be very handy absolutely
- 16:28Speaker 1: because obviously we are sharing lots of content about sales
- 16:32Speaker 1: and all of that, but we're also very conscious of
- 16:34Speaker 1: teaching you how to know if you want something, because
- 16:37Speaker 1: we don't want people wasting their money on things that
- 16:39Speaker 1: they don't actually need or didn't want, but they're just
- 16:41Speaker 1: like hits on sale. I must Yeah, So pre purchase routine,
- 16:46Speaker 1: and I'd love for you to add on any that
- 16:48Speaker 1: you think about or add some in the comments. If
- 16:50Speaker 1: you also have some try on clothes you already own
- 16:54Speaker 1: within that category. You already have blue jeans. You don't
- 16:58Speaker 1: need more blue jeans. This is me I was gonna say,
- 17:01Speaker 1: this is a message for us.
- 17:02Speaker 2: This is a message to me from me.
- 17:04Speaker 1: And when you then go into your wardrobe and you
- 17:07Speaker 1: try on all those things, you're like, oh, you know what,
- 17:10Speaker 1: I actually don't really need them. Or maybe you find
- 17:13Speaker 1: that dress that you maybe you were looking at a
- 17:16Speaker 1: dress and you find the dress that's actually kind of
- 17:18Speaker 1: similar and it just has a different neckline and you're like, oh, yeah,
- 17:21Speaker 1: you know what, I don't really need to spend one
- 17:22Speaker 1: hundred bucks on a new dress. That's fine. So that's one.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Go for a walk or a run because that's gonna
- 17:30Speaker 1: give you the good brain juices. And then you're like,
- 17:34Speaker 1: oh no, I don't need it. I feel good. I'm
- 17:35Speaker 1: gonna go kick a door off its hinges instead, And
- 17:38Speaker 1: that's like moving your body, getting in dolphins, and getting
- 17:40Speaker 1: dopamine from accomplishing that will probably give you the hit
- 17:44Speaker 1: that you need rather than an online topping purchase, which
- 17:46Speaker 1: is like low quality dopamine. Clean a room, love this.
- 17:52Speaker 1: It distracts you for a good long while that you'll
- 17:54Speaker 1: probably forget about the purchase that you were looking at.
- 17:57Speaker 1: That in twenty four hours, forty eight hours, or two weeks,
- 18:00Speaker 1: if you're still thinking about that, then you'll be like, yeah, okay,
- 18:03Speaker 1: maybe I do want it. Scroll on Pinterest or make
- 18:07Speaker 1: a wish list. This is a great way for you
- 18:09Speaker 1: to build maybe a folder of items that you already own.
- 18:13Speaker 1: But scrolling on Pinterest is like fake shopping. It's the best,
- 18:16Speaker 1: it's new shopping, it's window shopping, but digitally I love it.
- 18:21Speaker 2: The twenty twenty four window shop.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Yes, it's gorgeous and it hits the exact same because
- 18:27Speaker 1: no money comes out of your account, but you feel
- 18:29Speaker 1: like you did it. Yeah, you're like yes, okay. And
- 18:32Speaker 1: then my last one, which is the most effective, do
- 18:34Speaker 1: your washing because who fucking likes doing that? And then
- 18:39Speaker 1: when you do your washing and you realize how many
- 18:41Speaker 1: clothes you have to wash and you can add another
- 18:43Speaker 1: one in absolutely not. So that's my pre purchase routine.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I don't do the whole thing. I'll just pick one.
- 18:51Speaker 1: You only need one to My favorite one is trying
- 18:55Speaker 1: on the clothes that you already own and going for
- 18:57Speaker 1: a walk and scrolling on Pinterest and cleaning when you're watching.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I always ask myself where am I going to
- 19:04Speaker 3: keep this because the thought of having to store one
- 19:09Speaker 3: more item always stresses me out, and I'm like, well,
- 19:12Speaker 3: clearly I don't need it that much if I can't
- 19:14Speaker 3: make the space. Also, where will it be in five
- 19:17Speaker 3: years exactly. Our next affordable swap is skincare and it's
- 19:23Speaker 3: brought to you by the sponsor of today's episode, qv Seramids.
- 19:28Speaker 4: So a little while ago, when we played.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Save or Splurge with dermal clinician Jade aka Driven by
- 19:35Speaker 3: Beauty on the pod, she said that both cleanser and
- 19:39Speaker 3: moisturize us sit in the save category because you don't
- 19:43Speaker 3: have to spend a lot of money to get effective
- 19:46Speaker 3: skin care. And that includes the actual products that you use,
- 19:51Speaker 3: but also the number of steps that we include and
- 19:55Speaker 3: need in our skincare. I think a lot of the
- 19:57Speaker 3: time we're thinking need a lot of steps in your
- 20:01Speaker 3: skin kit.
- 20:01Speaker 1: That's literally what sent my skin on a whirlwind and
- 20:05Speaker 1: a roundabout of rampage. Yea really and it was peeling
- 20:09Speaker 1: back my skin routine to literally a cleanser and a
- 20:14Speaker 1: moisturizer that actually repaired my skin barrier and got my
- 20:18Speaker 1: skin to a point that I feel confident enough to
- 20:21Speaker 1: not have to wear makeup every day, which was a
- 20:24Speaker 1: massive goal of mine this year. That I'm actually so
- 20:26Speaker 1: happy I get to say because a couple of weeks ago, no, sorry,
- 20:30Speaker 1: a couple months ago, I remember saying when my skin,
- 20:34Speaker 1: you know, I was quite insecure about it, saying that
- 20:36Speaker 1: I felt really disappointed in myself that I didn't upkeep
- 20:40Speaker 1: that new year's goal to depend on makeup a bit less.
- 20:44Speaker 1: And I've actually gotten to a point now that I'm like, wait, no,
- 20:47Speaker 1: I did I actually feel good. I'm wearing makeup now
- 20:49Speaker 1: on the podcast, But like, have you noticed that like
- 20:52Speaker 1: every day, like I've just.
- 20:53Speaker 2: A day to day.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just wearing makeup because I just don't really
- 20:57Speaker 1: feel like it's too much of a crutch anymore.
- 21:00Speaker 3: Yeah. I think it's so interesting though, because of course,
- 21:04Speaker 3: depending on your skin concerns, you don't need to overcomplicate it. Yeah,
- 21:09Speaker 3: and you can save a lot of time and money
- 21:13Speaker 3: by reducing the steps in your skincare and getting back
- 21:16Speaker 3: to basics.
- 21:17Speaker 2: For a lot of people, for.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Example, The QB Seramides range features three products, a cleanser,
- 21:25Speaker 3: a lotion, and a cream.
- 21:27Speaker 1: So each product is formulated with a blend of three seramides, glycerine,
- 21:31Speaker 1: and nice cinamide, which makes it effective for all skin
- 21:34Speaker 1: types to support your skin barrier and boost hydration.
- 21:37Speaker 2: I also had like a.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Pretty significant exma flare up recently, the po poor thing.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah yeah, and it really helped soothe that,
- 21:48Speaker 1: Like I was like a slippery little dolphin a little
- 21:51Speaker 1: wet world.
- 21:52Speaker 2: It's amazing.
- 21:53Speaker 3: I also love that the lotion and the cream are
- 21:55Speaker 3: for your face and your body. Yes, but each product
- 22:00Speaker 3: is priced under thirty dollars as well, which is very affordable.
- 22:04Speaker 1: But did you hear that? What was that? My god? Guys,
- 22:09Speaker 1: I think I think this could be did we just
- 22:14Speaker 1: find buried treasures?
- 22:15Speaker 3: Ellie?
- 22:16Speaker 4: Oh we've got some buried treasure?
- 22:21Speaker 3: Oh my god?
- 22:22Speaker 4: Is that a treasure hunt we see on the horizon?
- 22:24Speaker 1: I do believe it is, Sally, Okay, what have we found? Suh?
- 22:31Speaker 2: My god?
- 22:32Speaker 4: Buried treasure, buried treasure.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Because QV is very generously giving us five packs of
- 22:39Speaker 3: the QV Saramids range for you chicks to win, so
- 22:44Speaker 3: you know, the drill the first five chicks to dm
- 22:48Speaker 3: us on Instagram and say, Sally al, let's shower together,
- 22:52Speaker 3: and I'd love to try the qv Saramids range.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Will win you will, Okay. Also just a flag. We
- 23:00Speaker 1: get so many messages when we do a treasure hunt
- 23:02Speaker 1: that if you don't get a reply, it does mean
- 23:05Speaker 1: the treasure hunt is over.
- 23:06Speaker 2: I'm so sorry.
- 23:07Speaker 1: We do try to get back to as many as
- 23:09Speaker 1: we can, but we get so many messages for these,
- 23:11Speaker 1: so get in so quick, like, pauses the messages right now.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it all gets snapped up quick.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Yeah, they go within like the first ten minutes, I swear.
- 23:20Speaker 1: But I'm so excited for you chiggies to try this range.
- 23:24Speaker 1: I really love it. I also love mixing tanning drops
- 23:29Speaker 1: into the moisturizer. The Yeah it's just ten out of
- 23:33Speaker 1: ten yeah lush. Okay, moving on to our next affordable swap.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Paying for shipping. I know we love your mouth. I know,
- 23:43Speaker 1: I know, Okay, I love you too, But one of
- 23:48Speaker 1: my favorite mindset changes that I've made with money and
- 23:52Speaker 1: that I've adopted is that I will pay for shipping.
- 23:58Speaker 1: I hate it too, but stop paying for shipping. Putting
- 24:04Speaker 1: free shipping is a strategy to encourage shoppers to have
- 24:09Speaker 1: a higher value in their car. It's effective, it works,
- 24:13Speaker 1: and literally Shopify, which is an asset of how people
- 24:17Speaker 1: build their retail website, encourages you to do so. Shopify
- 24:22Speaker 1: states that as many as forty seven percent of customers
- 24:25Speaker 1: say they'll spend the minimum amount to get free shipping,
- 24:29Speaker 1: and if they want to spend ten dollars to receive
- 24:32Speaker 1: an additional physical product rather than seven ninety nine simply
- 24:36Speaker 1: to get their initial purchase delivered to them, they're going
- 24:39Speaker 1: to do it. That's because they feel like they're getting
- 24:41Speaker 1: more value by purchasing an additional item than paying for shipping.
- 24:44Speaker 1: In that example makes complete sense. That is the only
- 24:48Speaker 1: time that I'm like, yes, I'm going to buy something
- 24:52Speaker 1: that's ten dollars so that I don't have to pay
- 24:54Speaker 1: eight dollars for shipping, because then it works out that
- 24:56Speaker 1: it's like two dollars, right. Yeah, how often is the
- 25:00Speaker 1: thing that you buy for free shipping actually ten dollars? Yeah,
- 25:04Speaker 1: it's not really. Or it's like you were buying something
- 25:07Speaker 1: that was twenty dollars and then you saw that it
- 25:09Speaker 1: was free shipping for one hundred dollars, So you're like,
- 25:11Speaker 1: I'll have a little squize.
- 25:12Speaker 2: I look around and.
- 25:14Speaker 1: I think those are the moments where we purchased things
- 25:17Speaker 1: that you weren't already thinking about, you didn't need, and
- 25:20Speaker 1: you end up with something that you probably bought from
- 25:23Speaker 1: the sale section, filtered from load to high, and bought
- 25:26Speaker 1: something that you don't actually really even like.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Do you know what?
- 25:29Speaker 3: It's the equivalent of the items in the queue when
- 25:33Speaker 3: you're lining up for the checkout at the shops.
- 25:35Speaker 1: The only time I will take that back is when
- 25:37Speaker 1: a minis. Yeah, the minis. That's Aphora and Mecca, because
- 25:40Speaker 1: I fucking love that.
- 25:41Speaker 2: They are great. But again, but again, do you need them?
- 25:44Speaker 3: Yeah, they're put there to give you something to look
- 25:47Speaker 3: at while you're lining up for the cure.
- 25:49Speaker 1: It's but you know what's another start that I found interesting?
- 25:53Speaker 1: But according to twenty twenty two data, sixty two percent
- 25:55Speaker 1: of shopper is won't buy from a retailer if it
- 25:58Speaker 1: doesn't offer free shipping, which is up from fifty two
- 26:02Speaker 1: percent the year price it's increased in then, so I
- 26:06Speaker 1: do understand the appeal of free shipping, but when you
- 26:10Speaker 1: have to spend fifty dollars sixty dollars, forty dollars whatever
- 26:14Speaker 1: it is to get that free shipping on something that
- 26:18Speaker 1: you weren't already going to purchase. Have a little think
- 26:23Speaker 1: and by that I mean don't do that. Yeah, if
- 26:26Speaker 1: is equal like to an item to what the shipping
- 26:29Speaker 1: was going to be, Yes, of course that makes sense,
- 26:31Speaker 1: like socks or something. Ye, undies, you're gonna use that.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Doing that has made the biggest difference, because I don't
- 26:36Speaker 1: end up with those things that just sit in my
- 26:38Speaker 1: wardrobe and I'm like, why not.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Buy that collecting dust?
- 26:40Speaker 1: Yes? And I'm like, fucking now, I've got to sell
- 26:42Speaker 1: this on deepop for like a quarter of the price.
- 26:44Speaker 1: And someone's still gonna be like, can I get this
- 26:46Speaker 1: for seven dollars? Yeah? And I'm like it's got.
- 26:47Speaker 2: The tags on it, it's on water come on Bucks.
- 26:52Speaker 1: And they're like, fine, I'll give you two dollars And
- 26:55Speaker 1: I'm like, no.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Fine, you can have free.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I'm like, you have free leave me alone, Okay, our
- 27:05Speaker 1: next one do you want to kick ourself? So out is.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Create I do not buy list.
- 27:11Speaker 3: So I'll actually introduce this to me and it's like
- 27:16Speaker 3: the reverse of a shopping list, and it's a reminder
- 27:20Speaker 3: of the things that you already have, all the things
- 27:24Speaker 3: that you don't like and don't need. It's like a
- 27:27Speaker 3: good barrier to stop you from buying random shit that
- 27:30Speaker 3: you won't use and you won't enjoy it.
- 27:34Speaker 1: I suggest writing this when you are not in a
- 27:39Speaker 1: spending shopping mood, because you won't be honest with yourself.
- 27:43Speaker 1: So what's funny is I try to read this when
- 27:48Speaker 1: I'm going to make a purchase, but sometimes I forget.
- 27:50Speaker 1: And I can think about two times as I read
- 27:53Speaker 1: this that I've forgotten, and I'm like, oopsie, daisies. But
- 27:56Speaker 1: I'm going to read you when I do not buy
- 27:58Speaker 1: list or I will ruin you. And in brackets, it says,
- 28:01Speaker 1: think of the laundry. There's two Alexes. There's the Alex
- 28:05Speaker 1: that wrote.
- 28:05Speaker 2: This and there's me. Yeah, okay, so first fight all
- 28:09Speaker 2: the time.
- 28:09Speaker 1: I love the fact that I put little messages in
- 28:13Speaker 1: there for myself, Like I didn't just write jeans shirt.
- 28:17Speaker 1: I had messages yeah for future Alex share jeans. You
- 28:22Speaker 1: have enough in enough shades and enough styles. Enough is
- 28:27Speaker 1: all in capitals, jackets, in brackets, and capitals, especially leather.
- 28:33Speaker 1: I know, okay, MAXI dresses you have green, red, and black.
- 28:39Speaker 1: That's all you wear anyway? True, I know, graphic te's
- 28:45Speaker 1: and jumpers. Read it again, they're so cute, Oka, damn it.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Okay.
- 28:52Speaker 1: And then this was the one that I accidentally broke
- 28:54Speaker 1: recently because my finger slipped. Sneakers. You have three you
- 28:59Speaker 1: don't even three heels. You don't even wear them. For
- 29:03Speaker 1: fuck's sake, little black dress. You spent three hundred dollars
- 29:07Speaker 1: on one, that's all you get?
- 29:11Speaker 2: Which one was that?
- 29:12Speaker 1: That was the House of CB. One that doesn't even
- 29:14Speaker 1: fit my boom? Oh damn, I know I'm trying to
- 29:17Speaker 1: resell it. I didn't actually spend three hundred dollars on it.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I got it secondhand and I only spent like one
- 29:23Speaker 1: hundred and eighty dollars on it. But she's she's been
- 29:27Speaker 1: for real.
- 29:27Speaker 4: Yeah, you have some hyperbole in there to like really
- 29:30Speaker 4: discipline you.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I was really putting my foot down when
- 29:35Speaker 1: I wrote that, and I actually I haven't deleted it,
- 29:38Speaker 1: And as I read it, I'm like, she's right, she
- 29:43Speaker 1: knows what would be on your do not buy list?
- 29:45Speaker 1: What let's write yours now? Fuck?
- 29:48Speaker 2: Okay, I don't want to. It's all the things. I like,
- 29:51Speaker 2: this is your doctor feel practiced.
- 29:53Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Leather jackets you have at least two in every style,
- 30:04Speaker 3: including motorcycle, fringed, trench, blazer, bomber. You have a problem
- 30:19Speaker 3: and must be stopped at all costs.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Okay, love it?
- 30:25Speaker 1: Okay, what's next?
- 30:26Speaker 2: Cowboy boots?
- 30:30Speaker 3: You also have several pairs of these and.
- 30:35Speaker 2: Yet wear that same one pair every time, the one
- 30:41Speaker 2: with the cowlide sunglasses.
- 30:46Speaker 3: I say this with love before you buy another pair,
- 30:51Speaker 3: invest in a good quality pair with a fucking prescription.
- 30:59Speaker 2: In them first, or maybe go get contact, you dumb
- 31:04Speaker 2: fuck respectfully, there we go. Okay, we go right, or
- 31:10Speaker 2: you forgot to put handbags?
- 31:12Speaker 1: Well, all right.
- 31:16Speaker 3: Has to keep populist men in business populous.
- 31:20Speaker 1: She's good, she's good. You should be on the fucking board.
- 31:25Speaker 2: I should.
- 31:26Speaker 4: I'm a silent investor, okay.
- 31:30Speaker 1: And our last affordable swap that doesn't break the bank
- 31:33Speaker 1: and saves you money is a to the last drop mindset,
- 31:40Speaker 1: So you can apply this to a lot of categories
- 31:43Speaker 1: that you spend money on. You would originally look at
- 31:47Speaker 1: this in terms of let's say beauty products or skincare products,
- 31:50Speaker 1: and it's like you know how you do not buy
- 31:54Speaker 1: another toothpaste until you really finish your toothpaste, maybe applying
- 31:59Speaker 1: that to so your skincare and your makeup, and maybe
- 32:04Speaker 1: your clothes and your fucking car. Like my car. I
- 32:10Speaker 1: miss her and may she rest in peace. I drove
- 32:14Speaker 1: that little girl until she could not drive no more.
- 32:18Speaker 1: She said, please let me go.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it's for everybody's safety.
- 32:21Speaker 1: I'm not on the road, and like I And then
- 32:23Speaker 1: when I did get a new car, it was like,
- 32:27Speaker 1: I don't feel bad about this purchase now because I
- 32:29Speaker 1: know that I got as much value from the products
- 32:33Speaker 1: or from the products from my first car. So it's like,
- 32:37Speaker 1: then when you apply this mindset when you do repurchase
- 32:40Speaker 1: or when you do buy something new, that purchase guilt
- 32:44Speaker 1: that buys guilt isn't really there because you know that
- 32:46Speaker 1: you are using every single last drop of the value
- 32:50Speaker 1: of your money. I'm not necessarily saying that. You know,
- 32:54Speaker 1: if there's a product that you just genuinely don't like,
- 32:57Speaker 1: like you know, if something doesn't fit or if something
- 33:00Speaker 1: breaks you out, obviously you're not going to keep using it.
- 33:04Speaker 1: But there are actually a lot of ways that you
- 33:05Speaker 1: can repurpose products that you don't like. For example, you
- 33:09Speaker 1: can use shampoo as a makeup brush, cleaner, conditioner, as
- 33:12Speaker 1: shaving cream, sheet face masks, as like a body serum,
- 33:17Speaker 1: so like once you finish using it, you can like
- 33:18Speaker 1: really rub it all over face cream. If you don't
- 33:22Speaker 1: really like it as a face cream, you can also
- 33:23Speaker 1: use it on your knee, elbow, or as a foot.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Loation, the forgotten areas or just I love that.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Mean when it's like your heel watching you do a
- 33:31Speaker 1: seven stepskin care routine and it's the guy from Fantastic four.
- 33:35Speaker 1: That's my favorite lip balm. You can use as like
- 33:38Speaker 1: a cuticle cream concealer, an eyeshadow bass or a bronzer,
- 33:43Speaker 1: and a highlighter as like a body shimmer body sexy
- 33:47Speaker 1: mixed in with some oil.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I love that.
- 33:51Speaker 1: There's so many ways that you can just play around.
- 33:53Speaker 3: Like I've been getting back into cutting open my foundation.
- 33:57Speaker 1: I love doing that and I'm most.
- 34:00Speaker 4: And really getting every last ounce.
- 34:04Speaker 1: My biggest pet peeve is when product is in a
- 34:06Speaker 1: packaging that doesn't let you get every last drop.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Yeah, what are some products.
- 34:10Speaker 1: That you've recently used to the very very last drop
- 34:14Speaker 1: and when the drop was gone, you wanted to cry.
- 34:18Speaker 3: Probably the Charlotte tail Bree Beautiful Skin foundation.
- 34:22Speaker 4: I recently cut that open.
- 34:24Speaker 3: And then would like slot the two pieces back in
- 34:28Speaker 3: to each other so that I could continue to.
- 34:30Speaker 4: Use it like over the next couple of days.
- 34:33Speaker 3: This is kind of in the same vein, and I've
- 34:35Speaker 3: spoken about it recently on the pod. Over the last year,
- 34:38Speaker 3: I've been really getting into getting my clothes altered, either
- 34:41Speaker 3: to ensure that they actually fit me properly or to
- 34:45Speaker 3: turn them into like a different item that.
- 34:48Speaker 2: I'll wear again.
