- 4:33SPEAKER_03: This is your host, Ecta, and I have a wonderful, wonderful guest with me again today.
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm so excited because I just discovered this line and I've already fallen in love.
- 4:43SPEAKER_03: Um, many of you might have already heard of it, but it um I want to introduce you guys to the founder of Arcona Beauty, Chanel Janae.
- 4:50SPEAKER_03: Welcome to the show, Chanel.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: I'm so excited to be hosting you.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: Hi, thank you for having me.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: I'm really, really excited to be here.
- 4:57SPEAKER_03: I'm very excited to host you because, like I said, you know, the line is absolutely beautiful.
- 5:01SPEAKER_03: It's it's just something that I naturally just gravitated towards.
- 5:05SPEAKER_03: You know, as soon as I tried the products, and you know, it's not just one thing, right?
- 5:08SPEAKER_03: A lot of brands have this, uh I feel like um, you know, they make one great product, but you have a lot of really amazing, amazing um, you know, just options.
- 5:18SPEAKER_03: So I can't wait to learn about that.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: But first, you know, I would love to uh to have you tell us about yourself, about how you moved into beauty, specifically skincare, and just kind of walk us down memory lane, if you could.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: Uh, for sure.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: Well, firstly, thank you very much for the nice compliment.
- 5:34SPEAKER_02: Um, you certainly are exposed to so many incredible products and brands.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: And so that's a really nice, I'm very flattered.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: So thank you for the nice compliment about our kind of products that really is a labor of love.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: And um, to answer your question, I mean, my my passion for skincare dates back to literally, you know, my um high school years.
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: I in my senior year of high school, I um went to um aesthetician school um and I got my license and I had stayed and continued um, you know, different facets of the industry my my whole career.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: Um and I feel so incredibly fortunate that at such an early age that my my interest and my um passion for skin care and skin health um that I was able to, you know, really pursue it as a career.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: Um and that it just uh uh came very easy for me because I was genuinely interested in it, even on the, you know, it was never I never felt like it was a job to me.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: It was always just something I gravitated towards and um you know really it really spoke to me.
- 6:37SPEAKER_02: So um I was very fortunate that uh the school that I went to, um the daughter's uh the owner's daughter, excuse me, um was an esthetician and she was really obsessed as well.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: And so she kind of took me under her wing because obviously I was very young and um you know really guided and supported me at such an early age, um, you know, beyond just the fundamentals of what you're learning in esthetician school.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: And then from there, um, you know, I went to college and that was an incredible experience.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: But I learned very early that um though I was accepted into a graduate program um in psychology, that um I ultimately my calling really was skin and and the aesthetic world.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: Um and so I just followed my heart.
- 7:21SPEAKER_02: I remember my mom having this conversation with me and just saying, you know, the important thing that you the important thing here is that you do something that you really love and that um speaks to you and this just comes so easy for you and you really genuinely enjoy it.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: So just follow your heart and do it, and everything else will fall into place.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: And so um I I met this amazing woman, um, and she was a huge inspiration to me and an incredible mentor, and really took me into her wing as well.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: And I I feel very fortunate that at such an early age that I was conscious that I still needed to really learn from somebody who had far more knowledge and understanding about skin and histology of skin and obviously um facial treatment.
- 8:01SPEAKER_02: So um I I was very fortunate in that sense.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: But I've always had a real thirst for knowledge, and I think that you know, to continue to grow and evolve just as a human being, and certainly in any career, you have to stay open and um uh, you know, just continue the process of learning because I think you just you evolve and just get better and just feel more confident with with what you're doing.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: No, I think that that's really um important to kind of understand what it is that you love to do.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: You know, I think that's a very strong message that a lot of people listening in, if you're you know, young professionals, you can really take home with you, you know.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think Chanel really hit the nail on the head with that in the sense of like, you know, if you're noticing that you are genuinely good at something, you know, or you gravitate towards something, or it's something that just comes naturally to you, do that, you know, make a career out of it.
- 8:52SPEAKER_03: I mean, I'm a huge believer in that.
- 8:54SPEAKER_03: I think that it it's not talked about enough, you know, especially um as you know, people are going through college, they're going through their career journey and their academic journey.
- 9:05SPEAKER_03: It's not pushed enough on them that this idea of, well, if you love something, that's what you should be doing with your life, you know, and that's where you should be going.
- 9:13SPEAKER_03: So I love that you brought that up, Chanel.
- 9:15SPEAKER_03: Thank you so much for um mentioning that.
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: But, you know, I want to I want to come back to the line because I really, like I said, I I love it.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: You know, I think that you've really um kind of created something for everyone here.
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: And I and that aspect is something I don't see a lot, you know.
- 9:29SPEAKER_03: I don't see a lot of lines that are truly geared for almost everybody.
- 9:33SPEAKER_03: You know, I the products I've seen, the products I've tried, you know, and this is for everyone listening, especially.
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: Um, there's something here for everyone.
- 9:41SPEAKER_03: And it's not just that there's something here for everyone, it's quality.
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: So I would love for you to comment on that aspect, Chanel, about how, you know, what is your process when you're going through and figuring out, well, I want to create this, or I feel like this is missing.
- 9:57SPEAKER_03: You know, what is that process like for you?
- 9:59SPEAKER_03: I mean, is it just like a light bulb goes off and then you, you know, kind of blueprint out your new product, or how does that work for you?
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: Well, I think it's very, very important to stay clear um with your vision and who you really are as a brand and the message that you want to share and how you want to go about educating people, um, opposed to trying to be everything to everyone.
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: But to your point, um, when I work with people, and as long as I've been actually, I still am a practicing esthetician, I still work with clients, even though I get to wear a lot of hats.
- 10:27SPEAKER_02: And I, in truth, have an incredible team of people that um I work with that without um I wouldn't be here.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: But um I think it's so important to align yourself with people that um you know um you respect and that are better and stronger and more seasoned at areas that you're not.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: And so back to the um working with clients, um, you know, you very quickly realize that you know there are things that are kind of a one size fits all or that can for most skin types um that are universal.
- 11:00SPEAKER_02: But you know, people the skin is as you know, is is constantly evolving and changing.
- 11:06SPEAKER_02: Um, and it because it's an organ, it's not just static.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: And so um the skin is always changing.
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: And so I would see clients at certain times of year or just different things that were going on with them that maybe um, you know, we brought their skin more into balance or more into homeostasis, but we still needed to focus on other concerns or issues that were going on with them.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: And so um, you know, people present with, you know, problem or blemish-prone skin or acne, um sensitivity.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, oftentimes people are overusing um exfoliating products and so they're really kind of um created havoc with their skin's protective barrier.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: Um and so, you know, we wanted to make sure that we could, to the best of our abilities, create products that would really target a variety of different concerns that people have or that they present with because it's not really a one size fits all, and everyone um, you know, we're constantly evolving and changing our health, our diet, um medications, sun exposure, um, stress, cortisol, all of those things really impact and affect the skin.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: So we want to be able to have tools, products that are simple and easy for people to use at home.
- 12:19SPEAKER_02: Um, because I know that people can come in and I can we could give them really beautiful, amazing treatment and really create healthier, more glowing skin.
- 12:28SPEAKER_02: But so much, so much of it has to do with um what they're using at home and that consistency.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: And so uh again, we just want to create products that um really are going to appeal to a lot of different skin types and skin conditions so that um, you know, you're not leaving this one skin type or skin condition out because you're focusing so much on the other.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, I mean that really comes through as well.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: You know, when I look at the line, I'm like, there's that's what I meant, is like there's something here for everyone.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: And I also think that that's a beautiful that's a brilliant point that you made about um, you know, uh people having the tools that they need.
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: I think that is a really, really great statement to really stick by when it comes to skin health, is that, you know, um, and for me as well, you know, as a consumer, skincare for me has always been exactly that, you know, tools, tools that I could use to make my skin the way I wanted it to be, the, you know, to help maintain my skin health.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, these are all kind of I think principles that somehow get lost in translation when we're so used to always going to an esthetician or so used to always going to that spa, or, you know, it's like that at-home maintenance part, right?
- 13:40SPEAKER_03: And the preventative part of things.
- 13:42SPEAKER_03: And um, I think, you know, that's where skincare for me as a consumer and as well as a scientist, I start to differentiate between the lines that are worth investing in and not.
- 13:52SPEAKER_03: Because if your skincare line is not helping you maintain that glow that you got from going to your esthetician or going to your facialist, um, then it's not worth it, right?
- 14:02SPEAKER_03: It's not, it's not there to help like it, you know, everything goes hand in hand, is my point.
- 14:08SPEAKER_03: And it's not going hand in hand with the treatments you're getting.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: So um with that in mind, I think that when I look at Arcana and I look at the long whole line and the range, I think that it's very interesting how you've crafted your products because um you don't have to have that harsh exfoliant.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: You don't have to always be using appeal or always be using some sort of like treatment product, right?
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: It's like you can use soothing products.
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: So I think that that's that's really, really great how you've created it.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: I appreciate that.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, I think the goal is really about again bringing the skin into balance and understanding that as it's constantly changing and evolving, that you can um incorporate a particular product or recommend a particular product to the client that will help to um support the concern or just to really maintain healthy, beautiful skin.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: And um I think so much um so much of it is really it comes down to education.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: And um that's really a lot of what uh what we do.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: And I think it's very, very important, um, not only as an aesthetician, but just in in the role of guiding and supporting people with uh products that they're using.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: I mean, sometimes people arrive and they'll show that they're using really great products from a lot of different brands that I respect and admire, but they're maybe overusing products or they've been sold too many things.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: And sometimes it's really about um, you know, reigning it in and so that there isn't that overlap or overexfoliation or um, you know, kind of canceling out uh, you know, one great product um with another.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: So um it it really gets down to that to education, I feel like strongly.
- 15:47SPEAKER_02: Um and um reassessing people's, you know, regimes because people, you know, they get they get um we all do as consumers.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, we're we're influenced by so many amazing people that are in our industry um or that are in the world of skincare and skin health and and uh wellness.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: And sometimes it can be very overwhelming, I think, for the consumer.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, even as an aesthetician, and I'm constantly researching and and studying and seeing what's in the marketplace.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: And um, you know, I'm just naturally interested whether I'm at Costco or whether I'm at Target or whether I'm at Newman Marcus or I'm at a great um doctor's office.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: I'm always fascinated with with brands and products and ingredients.
- 16:27SPEAKER_02: And so I feel like um I can even get confused, right?
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: It can be very overwhelming.
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: And so I feel like for the consumer, it can especially be overwhelming of um just sometimes too too many things being um recommended to for them.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: So sometimes it's about again just raining, pulling it back and you know, really giving the the right tools um that are appropriate that are going to give them the most impact and really help support their journey of having really healthy and and uh vibrant skin.
- 16:56SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 16:57SPEAKER_03: No, I I think that's that's a really, really great point.
- 16:59SPEAKER_03: And I think that people are very easily influenced um when they see someone's skin that they might like, you know, or results that they might like.
- 17:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's it's very difficult to explain to people that it's okay to stick to one regimen.
- 17:13SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
- 17:14SPEAKER_03: Like it's like I I think that a lot of consumers fall into the trap of, well, my skin has reached this level of improvement.
- 17:23SPEAKER_03: Now I need a whole different, you know, routine.
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: Now I need something completely different.
- 17:27SPEAKER_03: And that's not true.
- 17:28SPEAKER_03: You know, it's just that these um ebbs and flows are going to be there in your normal skin's physiology.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: And to be able to stick to a line, I think is more important of a message these days than like, you know, try a new line because you know, people are not sticking to routines.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: And so they're not seeing the effects.
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: And going back to your point, which you made earlier, which I think is such an excellent point of not using products that are canceling each other out.
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: I mean, that is such a huge, huge um, you know, message to take away here is that you know, everything when you look at the chemistry of it has a purpose and it works in a certain way.
- 18:05SPEAKER_03: And there are molecules that will cancel out other molecules.
- 18:08SPEAKER_03: And so, unless you have like this scientific training or you have this understanding, like basic understanding, it's hard sometimes to decipher what we could be mixing, what we should be using together versus not.
- 18:20SPEAKER_03: So, you know, that really leads me to asking you, Chanel, um, to give us some tips, you know, for everyone listening.
- 18:26SPEAKER_03: If somebody is, um, especially with the winter months coming up, someone has really, really dry skin, um, what are some things in the line that you would really recommend for them to kind of use and and stick to, you know, as like a daily part of their routine if you if you were to recommend something?
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 18:43SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think first and foremost, depending on the climate that you're in, but certainly if you're in a cold and and dry climate, I think it's really important too because of the indoor increased indoor heat.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: Well, right off the bat, I always like to recommend to people to get a humidifier to really kind of boost the moisture in the air.
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: So that really helps to alleviate some of that dryness that can occur.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: Um, and then um, you know, definitely using um, depending on the skin type, but oftentimes it's richer, kind of more um lipid-based um moisturizers and creams um that have you know ceramides and cholesterol and um you know ingredients that are really going to help to support um a compromised skin barrier because oftentimes in the winter time um the skin is so compromised by the indoor heat and then the extreme cold outside.
- 19:30SPEAKER_02: And so the skin is so out of balance.
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: And so I think it's about simplifying um the skin.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: So a really nice, gentle cleanser that will effectively cleanse the skin, but it won't strip it or irritate it.
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: Um we have a great frothy kind of cream, creamy clay-based cleanser that I really love.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: That is really appropriate for all skin types or most skin types.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: Um, and it's called four o'clock flower cleansing cream.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: And I love to recommend that because it dissolves and decomposes, uh, well, it dissolves the dirt pollution sunscreen eye makeup safely, um, comfortably without overdrying or stripping your skin.
- 20:03SPEAKER_02: Um, and then um, you know, it purifies and removes what we want a cleanser actually to do.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: Um, and I like it because it doesn't, again, overdry or make the skin feel tight, um, but you feel clean.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: So there's not this heavy, greasy film left behind.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: And then um, I always recommend, you know, a very rich um moisturizer or cream.
- 20:25SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, and of all styles, you can always use, you know, um something very occlusive, um, you know, obviously like an aqua an aquifer or a Vaseline, or if you want to go more in the direction, there's a great product called uh on petroleum that you can get in like Whole Foods that's more of a cast castor seed oil, but it's very thick and very dense.
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: Um and in the world of Arcana, um, we have an eye product called ID Plus, which is really incredible.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: But I actually use that all over my face because it's safe and calibrated for use around the eye area.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: But um at night I will mix it's very thick, it's very dense because it has the cholesterol, it has the liquid crystals um that um along with ceramides and it just really helps to reinforce the skin's protective barrier.
- 21:09SPEAKER_02: And obviously, you know, the skin around the eye area is so thin that um it gets dry very easily.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: Um and so I press it, I press it into my skin, and it really basically helps to hold and retain water in the skin and um allows the skin to to do um some self-repair, which I think is really key when the skin is so dry during the winter time.
- 21:31SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 21:32SPEAKER_03: No, that's that's excellent.
- 21:33SPEAKER_03: And I and I think that you know, with the richer textures, I completely see what you mean because yeah, like even with my skin, like I have combination skin or so, I'd like to say, you know, and so I even in the winter I notice, you know, it's not so much dryness, but it's that that feeling of um, you know, how you had mentioned like the humidifier.
- 21:54SPEAKER_03: I always feel like there's just more water loss happening in general, like regardless of like what kind.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: skin type you have regardless of that it's just the atmosphere you know it's just sucking water out of you and so i that's how i feel at least and so i always find myself you know gravitating towards the more thicker textures the more like you said exclusive you know formulas and stuff but um you know i think that's really really great and it's a really great um way to approach just building your routine and that's why i had asked you because i think a lot of times even now you know um we host so many brands but even now people chime in and they'll email me and they'll be like hey you know recommend something for you know december month for me or like december january i'm like well you know let me get an expert on here tell you what to do you know so i i think that it's very valuable for us to know you know as the seasons change you need to also start observing like how your skin is changing what is it that you need to alternate and you know just kind of have this in your mind you know in terms of the products that you're using in terms of the the maintenance products that you're using especially so that was very helpful thank you so much for that Chanel so okay I want to move on to the more um non-skin products as well because I feel like you've created such beautiful um other products like for example um everyone listening I'm a huge believer in like setting the stage you know for self-care like I love like uh for example like room sprays and linen sprays and I love things like that because they really get me into this like mode of okay this is me time you know I have to sit down and take care of my skin or whatever it is I'm doing you know I and just it sets the stage and I feel like you've created so many wonderful products that also are going hand in hand with with the whole ritual of self-care.
- 23:42SPEAKER_03: So I would love for you to talk to us a little bit about you know that whole aspect of the brand the self-care aspect yeah uh that's a really good question.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: I I feel very strongly about um rituals I think that they really support us in in creating the you know achieving our goals and so I think you know if you can just carve out that that time each day for yourself in whatever small way that is um whether that's to read or in this case obviously take care of our skin um and I think wellness is such a huge part of it.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: And the the room body and linen mist is really was designed to to be um something that would smell really beautiful um that didn't stay on the skin for hours and hours and hours such like a traditional perfume but that would be really refreshing and invigorating and um you know set set the stage for um you either your room, your linens to smell really beautiful or just you know on your clothes or on your skin.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: And so um because I think so often I think we're getting much better here in the States about taking care of our skin below you know um our chin.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: But for a long time I feel like the Europeans and uh Japanese and women from all over the world um unlike um Americans um really understood the importance of taking care of the skin on the body and um you know just we wanted to create um body products that uh would be an extension of our face care products that people could use that were simple to use that smelled really lovely um and that really helped to improve the overall appearance and and condition of the skin and and then we have some a great body product called pumpkin uh body lotion which is incredible it has um pumpkin enzymes as well as glycolic acid um and um it's it's been very effective for improving the overall appearance of uh KP or the little red bumps or as many people know it is keratosis polaris.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: Um so I I like to you know get people first really focused on taking care of their face and neck and decollet and then get them at least on a really good uh body cleanser and body cream and but to to your point the the body mist is really beautiful I love it and I actually can spray my lemons at night because it just makes everything smell really nice and refreshing before you rest.
- 26:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah absolutely no I'm a huge fan and I I really believe in the message that you um just shared with us about body care because I kid you not you know I grew up in you know I was born in India and I and I grew up with like kind of a lot of the eastern traditions right and so my grandmother I remember you know being very young my grandmother she was uh in rural India but even there you know they had this ritual where you with with young children especially like you know um when you bathe them because there you know in in rural areas of the world you don't have showers right you don't have you have to warm buckets of water and then you have to bathe and stuff but one of the things that she used to do was take um either like an oil based or milk and honey and combine them and then use that first and then rinse everything off.
- 26:51SPEAKER_03: And it worked as this like wonderful way of I think nourishing the body.
- 26:55SPEAKER_03: And I remember like you know um even early conversations with my own mother you know about this and she was like oh yeah we do that because you know um like for babies it's really really helpful you know in terms of like helping their skin heal and keeping it healthy and whatever.
- 27:10SPEAKER_03: I don't know if those claims are real or not but I do know that there is a ritual around body care you know and it is very much there in the Eastern um cultures.
- 27:19SPEAKER_03: And so I think that we're finally catching up like you said you know in Western society with that.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: But I think it's just as important you know you had mentioned glycolic I think glycolic is something that we should be using everywhere, you know, on your body, on your, on your, you know, on your chest, on your arms like because you know so many people suffer from like back knee or like body acne, you know, in general and it's just like they they get so confused.
- 27:43SPEAKER_03: They're like as if it's a whole new world but I'm like skin is skin you know so at the end of the day what's working for your face is most likely going to work for the rest of your body.
- 27:52SPEAKER_03: You just have to do it.
- 27:54SPEAKER_03: So I I love that you have that you know in your line you it's built into the DNA of the brand is to really take care of the body as well you know not just the face.
- 28:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah absolutely because you know we we um the skin becomes so dry and oftentimes we'll get um you know a thick layer of dead skin and so if you could just gently but effectively exfoliate it consist on a consistent basis um even if you're not doing it every single day but you know a few times a week um you know or incorporating as you say like a a a glycolic acid-based body wash um or just some sort of a manual physical exfoliation as long as that's not too abrasive.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: And then you know a good nourishing oil or cream I like to actually add a little oil to um a body cream um and just you know massage it into the skin really well and and I think at night too when the skin is really um in its most reparative state it's such an ideal time to I like to get the day off of me.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: So I always like to shower and bathe at night.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: And you know it doesn't have to be a long three hour process but you know just incorporating as you pointed out you know I I remember in the case of my grandmother um she would put like dry powdered milk into her bath um because she felt it moisturized the skin and she would add a few drops of oil so that the the mixture the the oils the you know the fatty acids along with the the cleanser um she was able to cleanse her body skin but it wouldn't get dry or stretch.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: So I would watch that and I was always really fascinated I'm really fascinated with rituals in general.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: So I I think part of um what really fascinates me and interests me is um culturally how all over the world people have these incredible ways in which they care for themselves.
- 29:38SPEAKER_02: And um you know to your point I I think it's really key and very important that we take care of um take care of our skin and it's it's pretty simple and easy to do.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: If you just find the right tools and you're consistent you you know you get really great results.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: And it again it doesn't have to be complicated in the case of body as you point out you know um I love glycolic acid too and so in our um pumpkin body lotion um it has the pumpkin ferment lactobacillus so we get this really great enzymatic exfoliation along with the 10% glycolic and it's a chiral form of glycolic um so what I like about it is it doesn't over irritate the skin or doesn't irritate the skin um and uh it really helps to address fine lines discolorations on the skin um you know um you know it just improves just the overall texture and tone of the skin which I think is really important.
- 30:33SPEAKER_02: And I think when you feel good and you know you you you take those little extra things to steps to take care of yourself you just feel better and you feel more confident and um I just think you you're happier.
- 30:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah no absolutely I think that's you know there's definitely a lot of merit in this new I mean people it's new for a lot of consumers but you know on the science end we've been talking a lot about this whole idea of you know mind gut skin access thing you know the brain the gut the skin and it's very very very valid you know the claims that people are making and also the data is supporting everything because we're we're quickly realizing that the skin is a living breathing organ and it's changing and it's it's something that you have to take care of just like you would take care of on your face.
- 31:22SPEAKER_03: You know, you have to take care of your body as well.
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: And you know also when you do that, for example, you know I'll give you I'll give you an example of something that came up in conversation with one of my colleagues the other day was this idea of when, for example, when you do something like take a shower, right?
- 31:40SPEAKER_03: And you're opening up those pores, you're opening up all of that, you know, just you're just like you said, washing the day away, right?
- 31:48SPEAKER_03: Your mind is also interpreting that ritual that you're undergoing.
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: So your mind is also like it's becoming like it's getting the signals of okay it's time to rest now.
- 31:59SPEAKER_03: It's time to calm down it's time to unwind.
- 32:01SPEAKER_03: And this whole process and this access that exists, it's there for a reason.
- 32:07SPEAKER_03: You know, the body is not made to work in in singularity.
- 32:10SPEAKER_03: It's made to work in synchrony you know with itself.
- 32:14SPEAKER_03: So um I think the more we approach our self-care habits in that way, the more results we're gonna see, you know, positive results because that's just how the body works.
- 32:23SPEAKER_03: And so I I really, really love the whole brand and I think that's really why I asked you um those questions because I I see that in your brand you know I see that there is an aspect and a little bit of everything there that can help someone really get into this mind, body, soul you know routine that is easy to stick to because you've got the you know you've got the nice fragrance that you can you know spritz on your linen or your body or whatever.
- 32:50SPEAKER_03: You've got the body care products you've got the obviously the you know amazing clinical grade skincare products they're really really efficace efficacious but you've got this whole holistic way of approaching health, right?
- 33:04SPEAKER_03: Like wellness.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: And I think that's something that very few brands in my opinion can really say they have because they don't you know I've interviewed them.
- 33:13SPEAKER_03: They there a lot of people don't and so I think that we all can learn from that and we really should gravitate towards that because it's it's really the next step in my opinion it's the next frontier for skin health.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: So I I really apologize for that.
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah thank you and I I can't agree with you more I feel like um you know everything is so interconnected and I think the the beautiful thing that's really happening in medical science is that in research and what and the ways in which they're bringing it um forward to the masses is how everything is so interconnected as you talked about the gut and you know every little step and choice that we make in our day-to-day lives really do impact and affect how we feel and look and the quality of our lives and you don't have to be a multimillionaire to have a good quality life and um to eat healthier and recognize that all of these things really do impact and affect how our skin uh looks and how um how we feel.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: And I feel that more and more that people are um conscious of that.
- 34:14SPEAKER_02: I just think people are happier and and lead healthier lives.
- 34:19SPEAKER_02: You know, I mean there's so much incredible work happening and I think the beautiful thing about social media and um you know YouTube and all these different ways in which we're able to connect with people from every walk of life and from every kind of industry is that um it's opening up our eyes to things that maybe that we hadn't been aware of before.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: And so it's not you know people are oftentimes chased chasing youth and I often say to them it's usually not my client um that type of person because I feel like um it's really about empowering people and elevating women and supporting and men and women alike and helping to people helping people to feel confident about the way that they look and um and I think when you feel better um and um are taking making better choices for yourself.
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: It carries over into every every area and facet of your life.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: And so I feel like with um it's not just one cream or just one product that's really going to change.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: It's it's all the little things add up and are also interconnected.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: And so I think the more that we can communicate that and connect with people who um really understand histology and our physiology and histology of body and skin and and health and the choices we make it um yeah we're we're better for it.
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: Absolutely no absolutely you mean it's it's a great point.
- 35:39SPEAKER_03: I think that you know I I just think that the more um I think educated the consumer gets the more they're starting to realize and recognize the importance of investing in the right places.
- 35:51SPEAKER_03: I think for a long time in the skincare industry we saw a lot of fluff and we saw a lot of marketing hype and you know people um you know they they wasted a lot of money there.
- 36:00SPEAKER_03: They did they they wasted a lot of money and and I think with COVID it was almost you know not that COVID is a blessing in any way by the way I hate I hate the virus but you know in the culture of COVID was kind of a blessing in disguise I think for us as consumers because it made us realize wait a minute all this crap that I have around me you know what I mean that's not even really helping you know there are so many brands you know I don't want to call anybody out but I'm not gonna lie there's a lot of brands in the skincare industry that I was like why are you even here?
- 36:32SPEAKER_03: You know you're just selling something that costs like you know 50 cents to make and you're selling it for like$50.
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: You know it was like like that.
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: And I was sitting here wondering all the time like why do people invest in this and it was just because it's the trend you know this is the trend this is what everyone's doing.
- 36:48SPEAKER_03: Well what what happened to health being trendy you know like what happened to you know true wellness being trendy and so I think when COVID happened and we were all locked up it made us really with this magnifying glass look at our rituals and look at our regimens and be like wait a minute this is not working for me.
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: You know I've been using this whatever it is lip gloss or you know skin treatment for six months now and it hasn't done anything for me.
- 37:14SPEAKER_03: You know, I really don't see results.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: And so by having that and by experiencing that I think we all started to kind of facilitate this journey of self-education when it comes to skin health and you know I've seen a lot of that especially on social media like we were talking about I mean I've seen it on blogs you know you name it you know everyone's really kind of on that health kick now with skin which is very very good because we should have always been there from the beginning.
- 37:43SPEAKER_03: You know it's always been about health when it comes to the the skin you know in general you should always be thinking from a health oriented mindset in my opinion because it is an organ.
- 37:53SPEAKER_03: And so you know I think that products and decisions of consumers like they really you know reflect where our industry is going.
- 38:02SPEAKER_03: And so I always urge everybody especially all of our listeners that are tuning in you know I know um you guys are all very you know you love educating yourself.
- 38:11SPEAKER_03: So I really urge you vote with your dollars you know vote with vote with your money with your purchases with your decisions because this is what really makes the good brand stand out from the the fluff.
- 38:23SPEAKER_03: And I think that's very important nowadays especially so you know I'm a huge fan like I said you know Chanel of your whole line I think it's absolutely beautiful wonderfully crafted and I I can't wait you know for everybody listening in to really experience it as well.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: So thank you so much.
- 38:42SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: Thank you I really do appreciate your kind words it really means a lot because I think sometimes when you're so close to something it's um it's kind of all all and all consuming and so it's always really nice to have more objective uh you know points of view or to have other people share their thoughts and feelings about it.
- 38:58SPEAKER_02: And to your point I think that the the pandemic really did allow us to kind of reevaluate our lives and to uh sort of reset sorts um and obviously it was incredibly challenging and difficult for for many people or for most people and um I think it's reassessing um and you know um simplifying um steps that we do on a day-to-day basis are are our or those rituals that we were talking about um you know and having skincare regimes um that in a nutshell um really are backed by science that really substantiate the claims that they're making um and kind of getting through the nonsense and and the marketing and all the hype and um just kind of simplifying um and using the the tools and the products that are really going to get the most impact like the biggest shift and change in how skin looks and feels and we know what many of those things are and um you know obviously we know that it starts with SPF and um a broad spectrum SPF and reapplying it.
- 40:09SPEAKER_02: And so part of what I do in educating clients is really looking at the amount that they're using, showing them the appropriate amount um the importance of reapplying um and just being really consistent rain or shine with SPF.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: Because you can give people incredible products or really active um uh treatments that are going to make a real change in how the skin looks but if they're not protecting your skin properly it's it's all for for nothing I feel like and so you know really good sunscreen and incredible retinol um you know there's so much so much science and so much clinical data to support the benefits.
- 40:47SPEAKER_02: I mean I don't think those two ingredients probably have the most um you know meaning ingredients being sunscreen and um retinol you know that's really the gold standard and across the board when people use it um they really do see an incredible change in how the skin looks um and a lot of the things that they don't like about their skin are um benefited when they start using a a well formulated uh stabilized form of retinol um and then you know a really great um you know antioxidant serum such as obviously um vitamin C.
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: But I like to use a combination of um of antioxidants on a daily basis, obviously try to incorporate those two in my diet.
- 41:29SPEAKER_02: I remember Jane Vonda talking about her diet and and and health and and she said you know when she created her plate of food um at lunch or dinner that she tried to have it really look like a rainbow on the plate so that there was a lot of um you know incredible antioxidants and polyphenols and all of these amazing things that are in fruits and vegetables and it always kind of resonated with me.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: I think that it's all about those little choices.
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: No don't get me wrong I love a candy and fun stuff too but um I think I think the more that we can um you know just have the right tools for our day-to-day skincare um uh regime um and kind of look at what we're eating um and being conscious of that and I think really taking care you know one great thing I've truly noticed is the importance of part of that self-care is um you know the importance of our our overall um kind of mental health um you know through meditation or through journaling or through connection community friendship all of those things and um it it really does add up to how we look and how we feel and our happiness and I absolutely yeah I'm a big proponent of that.
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah no no absolutely I was just agreeing with you I I think yeah 100% you know I think that it's you know it's really a combination of so many different factors that contributes to anything you know whether that's health wellness you know better mindset more mindfulness I mean anything you I mean we pick up any topic and you'll see that it takes a village you know and and I think that people need to really rely on the knowledge of others.
- 43:16SPEAKER_03: They need to I think you know we all can learn from each other.
- 43:20SPEAKER_03: And I think that you know when you find a line that works for you it's very important for you to recommend it to other people.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: You know, I'm a huge believer in that like if you find a product that's working really well for you, you know, recommend it to somebody else you know add it to their plate so that they can also experience it.
- 43:36SPEAKER_03: It's about the sharing idea, right?
- 43:38SPEAKER_03: It's about sharing knowledge and sharing um you know just I guess breakthroughs or or you know revelations that you have on a personal level and and creating a community around that.
- 43:49SPEAKER_03: And you know I think skincare is a wonderful wonderful um you know part of the beauty industry because of that reason um in the sense that I feel like the skincare consumer Is just more um, I don't know, open-minded, I think.
- 44:05SPEAKER_03: Um, when I look at uh as compared just like makeup, you know what I mean?
- 44:09SPEAKER_03: They're just more, they're more willing to just have a conversation, they're more willing to have this open discussion, open um, you know, sharing of ideas.
- 44:17SPEAKER_03: And I really love that about this industry, you know, and I really love that about even the founders in this industry, you know, that are helping move that along because it's the foundation of everything, you know, knowledge and and sharing that knowledge.
- 44:31SPEAKER_03: So I really, you know, for everyone listening, for anyone who, you know, is sharing product ideas or whatever it may be, you know, something you learned about acne or something you learned about a certain thing like rosacea or whatever, and you're sharing that with people, that's huge.
- 44:47SPEAKER_03: You know, that that helps us narrow down the things that matter.
- 44:52SPEAKER_03: And so I'm, you know, I'm also a very big, you know, ritualist kind of person as well, Chanel.
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: Just to, you know, add to what you were saying.
- 45:00SPEAKER_03: I really do believe in rituals and and regimes and stuff because I think that you know it it helps you really navigate your day.
- 45:07SPEAKER_03: It helps you stabilize your day.
- 45:09SPEAKER_03: And I think that if anyone can help you create that routine, that's that's really a uh it's a huge gift.
- 45:16SPEAKER_03: So I, you know, I just want to thank you very much for for your time, for coming onto the show, for the beautiful line that you've created.
- 45:24SPEAKER_03: Um, everyone listen everyone listening.
- 45:26SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna be tagging everything in the concept art for this episode.
- 45:29SPEAKER_03: And I really, really hope that you um, you know, check out the line, uh, find the products that resonate with you and start from there and then you know keep exploring because that's my favorite part of discovering a wonderful line is just I buy, you know, a few things that I really that really catch my eye and then just keep exploring.
- 45:47SPEAKER_03: So yeah, I really urge everybody to do that.
- 45:49SPEAKER_03: But thank you so much, Chanel.
- 45:51SPEAKER_03: This has been so lovely.
- 45:52SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 45:52SPEAKER_02: I so appreciate you having me, and um, I hope that you have a wonderful rest of your day, and thank you so much for your support and allowing me the opportunity to to um share our conna with your uh your f your followers.
- 46:04SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much.

- 46:09SPEAKER_03: So stay tuned, everybody.
