Latest / Revelio: A Wizarding World Podcast / Episode 15: Sorting
Transcript
- 0:11Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to episode fifteen of Rebellio for March
- 0:15Speaker 1: twenty twenty five.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I'm Nicole, I'm Amy, and we are still missing Tom,
- 0:35Speaker 2: but don't worry, he'll be back. So hopefully this episode
- 0:38Speaker 2: isn't too chaotic without someone keeping us in line. Yeah,
- 0:45Speaker 2: in this episode we'll be discussing how sorting. But first.
- 0:54Speaker 1: You're listening to WWN, the Wizarding Wireless Network. Now for
- 1:00Speaker 1: the latest headlines. So, I mean to be honest, we've
- 1:04Speaker 1: got a lot of news again this episode. I think
- 1:07Speaker 1: we're going to kind of continue to have a lot
- 1:09Speaker 1: of news until like Epic Universe open. So hopefully you
- 1:12Speaker 1: guys are enjoying all of you all of the news
- 1:14Speaker 1: and hearing our thoughts on it. But we might have
- 1:18Speaker 1: more official and I'm going to put official end quotes
- 1:21Speaker 1: casting rumors. So, according to Deadline, HBO is closing in
- 1:27Speaker 1: on two more main character casting deals for the upcoming
- 1:30Speaker 1: HBO series. So allegedly, Oscar and Emmy nominated actress Janet
- 1:36Speaker 1: McTeer is in negotiations to play Professor McGonagall quote, sources
- 1:41Speaker 1: tell Deadline end quote. And Tapa Esuato, who was one
- 1:47Speaker 1: of the first actors who kind of came up in
- 1:49Speaker 1: the casting rumors, is allegedly closing his deal to play
- 1:54Speaker 1: several Snape allegedly. I'm saying allegedly because you know, as
- 2:02Speaker 1: noted in this Deadline article, HBO is still declining to
- 2:07Speaker 1: comment on any of this. So obviously, you know, as
- 2:10Speaker 1: we know, and we talked about, you know, even last episode,
- 2:14Speaker 1: HBO seems to really sticking to their statement of you know,
- 2:17Speaker 1: we appreciate that there's all this rumor and speculation, but
- 2:22Speaker 1: we're only going to confirm details as we finalize deals.
- 2:26Speaker 1: But I mean, it seems like the right there is
- 2:29Speaker 1: there inside information of people that are close to finalizing deals.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I think these names keep coming up, right, like especially
- 2:38Speaker 1: like Papasueto. Hopefully I'm pronouncing his name correctly, like.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Right, He was like one of the first ones that
- 2:43Speaker 2: we started getting rumors, so it's interesting that his name
- 2:46Speaker 2: is still being kicked around.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Yes, and you know, of course there isn't you know,
- 2:53Speaker 1: and I there's still contents or is there still a
- 2:56Speaker 1: lot of discourse online about his casting as well, So
- 3:02Speaker 1: I guess we'll see again. I still think it's all allegedly,
- 3:06Speaker 1: but I think the fact too that his name kind
- 3:08Speaker 1: of continues to be the one. I don't know. I
- 3:13Speaker 1: don't know obviously how good our sources are here, but
- 3:18Speaker 1: hopefully HBO will just announce something official soon, because at
- 3:22Speaker 1: this point, news outlets are reporting these castings like they
- 3:27Speaker 1: are a done deal. So very interesting that HBO is
- 3:31Speaker 1: sticking to their declining comment.
- 3:34Speaker 2: It'd be really interesting if one of them would pull
- 3:36Speaker 2: a John Liscow and just be like, Yep, I've got
- 3:40Speaker 2: the role.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like, uh, Johnny Boy may have
- 3:46Speaker 1: you know, made some like I said, last episode, may
- 3:49Speaker 1: have ruffled some feathers, So I don't know if we'll see. Yeah,
- 3:54Speaker 1: I don't know if we'll see that again from from anybody,
- 3:56Speaker 1: but yeah, we'll see. I think. Obviously this is the
- 4:01Speaker 1: first I've heard of this Janet McTeer and possibilities for
- 4:04Speaker 1: Professor McGonagall, so I don't know, we'll see, We'll see.
- 4:13Speaker 1: And also in more book news so ironically, like you know,
- 4:18Speaker 1: we talked about this last episode, and then this seems
- 4:21Speaker 1: to always happen to us. A few days after we're
- 4:23Speaker 1: done recording, we get an announcement. Again. I'm wondering if
- 4:27Speaker 1: you know Warner Brothers is listening to our podcast. But
- 4:30Speaker 1: on a March tenth, Bloomsbery announced that illustrator Levi Pinfold
- 4:35Speaker 1: will be illustrating the final two books in the Harry
- 4:39Speaker 1: Potter Illustrated Edition series that was started by Jim kay So.
- 4:44Speaker 1: He is not new to the Wizarding World, so he
- 4:47Speaker 1: previously worked on the Harry Potter Hogwarts House editions as
- 4:51Speaker 1: well as the Wizarding Almanac. So that's nice to kind
- 4:56Speaker 1: of have somebody who's already, you know, in in the universe.
- 5:00Speaker 1: And in addition to learning that he'll be doing the
- 5:03Speaker 1: final illustrations, we also learned that we'll be getting halfwoodprints
- 5:07Speaker 1: in October of twenty twenty six. And if you haven't already,
- 5:11Speaker 1: you can see a sneak peak illustration. It's absolutely gorgeous
- 5:15Speaker 1: of Harry peering into the pensive and you can find
- 5:19Speaker 1: it on both the Harry Potter and the Bloomsbury Publishing
- 5:22Speaker 1: Instagram pages as well as on Harry Potter dot com
- 5:25Speaker 1: and like the official news announcement of.
- 5:27Speaker 2: This, so it does look really pretty. I think it's
- 5:32Speaker 2: interesting because he's not the same one they paired Jim
- 5:36Speaker 2: Kaye up with somebody else for or at the Phoenix.
- 5:40Speaker 2: And it's weird because, like I thought that was supposed
- 5:41Speaker 2: to be like a transition to that person taking over,
- 5:45Speaker 2: but now it's a third illustrator.
- 5:47Speaker 1: I thought so too, Like it seems like we had
- 5:50Speaker 1: this person working with him to kind of do this transition,
- 5:55Speaker 1: and so, yeah, I was also surprised to see that
- 5:57Speaker 1: it was somebody different. I don't know if maybe and
- 5:59Speaker 1: I can't think of the name of who illustrated the
- 6:01Speaker 1: Order of Phanas because you know, last episode, I couldn't
- 6:04Speaker 1: even remember we had that one. But I wonder if
- 6:07Speaker 1: he's maybe someone who just tends to work with Jim
- 6:10Speaker 1: k like a go to person, and he just was
- 6:14Speaker 1: there to support. But yeah, no, I agree. It really
- 6:16Speaker 1: seemed like they were prepping somebody to then move in
- 6:20Speaker 1: to take over for him, and then maybe that was
- 6:24Speaker 1: the original plan and something something happened. But again, I
- 6:29Speaker 1: think it's really nice that we're going to have an
- 6:30Speaker 1: illustrator who has worked on Harry Potter before.
- 6:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and that we'll get a complete set of
- 6:38Speaker 2: these books.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Yes, and I'm very curious to see like how I mean,
- 6:44Speaker 1: I think I know we talked about, you know, the
- 6:46Speaker 1: smaller editions that were started by Mina Alima, and how
- 6:49Speaker 1: the dimensions of those books and how it's going to
- 6:51Speaker 1: be interesting once we get to the thicker books, it's
- 6:53Speaker 1: just going to be like this brick. I think these
- 6:56Speaker 1: other editions, it's nice because they're obviously a full size
- 6:58Speaker 1: like coffee table so they can be a little bit
- 7:01Speaker 1: more spread out. But yeah, it'll be interesting. And I
- 7:06Speaker 1: still have the I like I said, I still have
- 7:08Speaker 1: to get the Order of the Phoenix one, but that
- 7:10Speaker 1: one is probably, you know, obviously the biggest one will
- 7:12Speaker 1: get but I'm trying to think where can I put
- 7:15Speaker 1: all these on a shelf because they're so big because
- 7:17Speaker 1: they're coffee table books. But really, yeah, I am excited
- 7:21Speaker 1: that they are for both of these, both of these editions,
- 7:25Speaker 1: that they are focusing on finding replacement illustrators because I
- 7:30Speaker 1: do want to complete both of the sets. So yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 1: October twenty twenty six is when we'll be able to
- 7:40Speaker 1: get that. And we also had an announcement for where
- 7:46Speaker 1: the next location of the Harry Potter Exhibition is going
- 7:50Speaker 1: to be, So it's going to be in Salt Lake
- 7:51Speaker 1: City and tickets actually go on sale March twentieth, so
- 7:56Speaker 1: the day that this episode is releasing, So if you
- 8:01Speaker 1: were in the area, definitely go.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Somebody recently asked me if this was worth going to
- 8:06Speaker 2: and I was like, yes, absolutely, Like if you went
- 8:10Speaker 2: to the one back in the day, like when the
- 8:14Speaker 2: movies were first coming out, think that, but with more
- 8:22Speaker 2: stuff added like that one was very much just like
- 8:26Speaker 2: the costumes and props. This version has a lot of
- 8:30Speaker 2: really cool interactive elements. I feel like it's a lot
- 8:34Speaker 2: more kid friendly, Like if you were to take kids
- 8:37Speaker 2: to it, I think they would really enjoy it. There's
- 8:41Speaker 2: actual photo ops because if you went to that one,
- 8:45Speaker 2: the first one, you know, they were like they were
- 8:49Speaker 2: like on you, like if you took out your phone,
- 8:51Speaker 2: it was like a swat team was converging on you.
- 8:54Speaker 2: So this one they actually encouraged pictures to be taken.
- 8:58Speaker 2: So yeah, it's definitely. I think it was a pretty
- 9:01Speaker 2: cool experience.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I think so too, And I'm excited that it looks
- 9:07Speaker 1: like it's going to be continuing and not have this
- 9:09Speaker 1: limited run like that initial one did, and just continuing
- 9:14Speaker 1: to move throughout the country. And they do really cool
- 9:18Speaker 1: like exclusive merchandise as well at the end, and so
- 9:21Speaker 1: it's yeah, it's definitely a good experience. If you're anywhere
- 9:23Speaker 1: near a set Lake City and you haven't gone yet,
- 9:26Speaker 1: definitely go.
- 9:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:31Speaker 1: And then the rest of the news that I have
- 9:34Speaker 1: here is more Universal Orlando Epic Universe in Ministry of
- 9:39Speaker 1: Magic news. Yes, especially now that there's you know, universal
- 9:45Speaker 1: staff is starting to be able to preview the lands,
- 9:48Speaker 1: and we're getting very close to the opening here kind
- 9:51Speaker 1: of more and more details are just getting released, and
- 9:56Speaker 1: so we've gotten a closer look at some of the
- 10:00Speaker 1: new merchandise that's coming. Universe Orlando had shared some of
- 10:04Speaker 1: these pieces, and again like they're they they are sharing
- 10:08Speaker 1: also some of the other lands as well. Of course
- 10:10Speaker 1: we're just talking about Ministry of Magic. But there's going
- 10:13Speaker 1: to be new house robes, which I thought was one
- 10:15Speaker 1: of the most interesting of the announcements of new merchandise, huh.
- 10:22Speaker 1: And they're kind of like and I don't know if
- 10:24Speaker 1: it's just like in the picture, but I think they're
- 10:26Speaker 1: like blue, like they look like a dark blue if
- 10:30Speaker 1: I'm remembering correctly.
- 10:35Speaker 2: But they also supposed to look like the ones that
- 10:38Speaker 2: we see in the flashbacks and Fantastic beats.
- 10:42Speaker 1: I wonder, you know, possibly because I will say though
- 10:45Speaker 1: they're more I mean, they're definitely like Hogwarts and inspired robes,
- 10:52Speaker 1: like they're they're tied to the Hogwarts houses, but the
- 10:56Speaker 1: shop that they're going to be in is also going
- 10:59Speaker 1: to have like oh and I have it lower down here,
- 11:07Speaker 1: but the shop where it's going to be in, which
- 11:09Speaker 1: is laid Gallery merquae h butchered that French but so
- 11:14Speaker 1: that's where they're gonna have their nineteen twenties era inspired robes,
- 11:18Speaker 1: but they also are going to have like berets and
- 11:21Speaker 1: neckties with French fashion. So there's like a nice like
- 11:29Speaker 1: blend here of like, these are Hogwarts robes that are
- 11:33Speaker 1: inspired by the nineteen twenties, but we're also going to
- 11:36Speaker 1: have French inspired pieces in this store.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to look up the Fantastic Beasts robes
- 11:49Speaker 2: because I know they looked different, but I don't remember
- 11:51Speaker 2: them being blue necessarily. Well, yeah, they were a little
- 12:04Speaker 2: bit blue interesting.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Which I think it makes sense that they would take
- 12:14Speaker 1: like inspiration from that. But yeah, I mean, either way,
- 12:19Speaker 1: I think that's I definitely think that's exciting because I know,
- 12:22Speaker 1: like a lot of people love the robes at Universal
- 12:25Speaker 1: and it'll be nice to kind of have a new
- 12:27Speaker 1: one in your collection.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I like the the scarves because they're very much
- 12:34Speaker 2: like the style of scarf that Newt has, although his
- 12:38Speaker 2: is still a more muted yellow than what they've put here.
- 12:41Speaker 2: But I like that they did that they took from
- 12:43Speaker 2: that design. That's cool.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Yes, I'm excited because I I mean, while I will
- 12:50Speaker 1: not be purchasing a robe because I just have no
- 12:53Speaker 1: use for them, and yeah, I could never wear it
- 12:58Speaker 1: around the park like people do. It's still but I was.
- 13:02Speaker 1: I am all for a new Sotherin inspired scarf for sure.
- 13:09Speaker 1: But yeah, I thought of all and of course all
- 13:10Speaker 1: that A lot of the other merch that's been shown
- 13:12Speaker 1: is a lot of just you know, T shirts and
- 13:14Speaker 1: like branded Ministry of Magic and all of that. So
- 13:16Speaker 1: I thought the ropes were definitely really cool. We also
- 13:20Speaker 1: got pictures of French versions of chocolate frog and berry
- 13:25Speaker 1: bats every flavor beans, which is really exciting, and the
- 13:31Speaker 1: they're also going to have a version of the like
- 13:34Speaker 1: the tin can for chocolate frogs like that I eventually
- 13:38Speaker 1: ended up buying because I was sick of my paper
- 13:40Speaker 1: chocolate frog boxes not standing.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Up, just falling over and right behind me.
- 13:48Speaker 1: So yeah, so I'm excited that they're going to do
- 13:50Speaker 1: the French version of that tin, and it's gonna come
- 13:52Speaker 1: with uh, you know, chocolate frog cards as well, and
- 13:57Speaker 1: they're all like with which is in wizards that have
- 14:01Speaker 1: ties to like Ministry of Magic, and we're all going
- 14:04Speaker 1: to be getting a NEWTS Commander chocolate Frog card it
- 14:07Speaker 1: is part of So it's actually have the picture right
- 14:13Speaker 1: here that I saw of who we're getting. So it's
- 14:17Speaker 1: NEWTS Commander Nicholas Flamel, Jaconda Sykes. Why did I say her?
- 14:25Speaker 1: I butchered her name, Jaconda Sykes. I think that's what
- 14:28Speaker 1: it's there for. His name, art, Mesia Lufkin and Ignatia
- 14:34Speaker 1: Wildsmith are the five cards that are going to come
- 14:39Speaker 1: in that tin. So they're very cute. So another thing
- 14:44Speaker 1: to add to the collection. And we you know, already
- 14:49Speaker 1: got a new look at the new wands that are
- 14:52Speaker 1: going to be coming to Cosmiakajor, but it looks like
- 14:55Speaker 1: we're also going to be getting some wand accessories as
- 14:58Speaker 1: well that have a Parisian to list.
- 15:04Speaker 2: We'll see what that is. Was like, is there more?
- 15:10Speaker 1: No, That's all we know right now, right and so
- 15:14Speaker 1: I guess we'll see what comes of that. And then
- 15:17Speaker 1: as I mentioned, so at the Gallery Mary, that's where
- 15:22Speaker 1: you'll be able to find, you know, your wizarding gear,
- 15:26Speaker 1: like the robes and the berets and the neckties that
- 15:28Speaker 1: I mentioned. And I guess there's also going to be
- 15:32Speaker 1: like messenger bags that have wandholders and jewelry, and then
- 15:36Speaker 1: there will be accessories for each Hogwarts house at the
- 15:39Speaker 1: store as well. And then you'll also be able to
- 15:41Speaker 1: get a little interactive niffler.
- 15:45Speaker 2: I saw these, They have them down there right now
- 15:48Speaker 2: in the Magical Menagerie and they are so cute. They
- 15:52Speaker 2: like sit on your shoulder. There's a little magnet underneath
- 15:55Speaker 2: that holds it to your shoulder and it's like head turns,
- 15:58Speaker 2: like adorable.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Yes, I will be down there next month, so I'll
- 16:03Speaker 1: definitely have to try to find it, but yeah, so
- 16:07Speaker 1: super exciting. And then there's also going to be a
- 16:10Speaker 1: metro flu gift shop called Tour and Flu and you'll
- 16:15Speaker 1: be able to find various items here featuring the time turner.
- 16:19Speaker 1: And there's also going to be a British Ministry of
- 16:21Speaker 1: Magic collection, so there'll be like apparel and accessories, and
- 16:25Speaker 1: I guess also like wand holder Harness and like a
- 16:28Speaker 1: wand stand that's going to have like that Ministry of
- 16:31Speaker 1: Magic emblem on it. So then of course we mentioned
- 16:36Speaker 1: last week as well that we found out that the
- 16:38Speaker 1: Sweet Shop will be Kramel, and I had to put
- 16:42Speaker 1: this in of course because as you know, if you
- 16:46Speaker 1: guys have been listening to our episodes, I have been
- 16:49Speaker 1: gung ho about there being butterbeer macrons as soon as
- 16:52Speaker 1: we found out that this was French inspired and we
- 16:56Speaker 1: are getting them to have confirmation. I'm so excited. They
- 17:00Speaker 1: look fantastic, so confirmation that we're gonna get the butter
- 17:05Speaker 1: beer macrons. There's also going to be various butterbeer inspired chocolates.
- 17:10Speaker 1: There's gonna be a new like the like the plastic
- 17:13Speaker 1: butter beer Steyn that you can get with a new
- 17:15Speaker 1: design for this particular part.
- 17:18Speaker 2: They just look fancier, like they were very fancy, very elegant.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Yes, like in the it's like in the British side,
- 17:25Speaker 1: you've got that like true like beer stein, like we're
- 17:28Speaker 1: at the pub.
- 17:29Speaker 2: A purpose, it's party stout.
- 17:32Speaker 1: You could just picture it being banged on the you
- 17:35Speaker 1: know yeah, yeah, I just picture like the hogshead and
- 17:42Speaker 1: like that rough you know, it's very British, and then yeah,
- 17:46Speaker 1: the ones for in the Wizard Paris are very dainty
- 17:50Speaker 1: and they're very pretty. They're very pretty, so yeah, so
- 17:56Speaker 1: that's exciting as well too. So you can see all
- 17:58Speaker 1: of these on the Harry Potter Instagram page. So yeah,
- 18:03Speaker 1: all the every teas that we get just like makes
- 18:05Speaker 1: me more like excited, like for new things. And yeah,
- 18:10Speaker 1: I'm just excited. Part of me like doesn't want to
- 18:13Speaker 1: see it all because I'm like, man, am I spoiling myself,
- 18:15Speaker 1: But at the same time, I can't like not see
- 18:18Speaker 1: these news things, and then it also just makes me
- 18:20Speaker 1: more excited to go. So it looks like, I mean,
- 18:23Speaker 1: they're doing a really great job with everything. So then
- 18:28Speaker 1: I thought like that was all that we got, And
- 18:30Speaker 1: then I found out that the Discover Universal podcast just
- 18:35Speaker 1: recently came out with an episode where they revealed several
- 18:39Speaker 1: new entertainment additions that are coming across the park, and
- 18:43Speaker 1: so thought we could talk about the stuff that was
- 18:45Speaker 1: revealed for Ministry of Magic. And this was talked about
- 18:49Speaker 1: by Catherine di Genova. She's a senior show producer at
- 18:52Speaker 1: Universal Creative. So she talked about the upgraded interactive talking portraits,
- 18:58Speaker 1: which I think we may have mentioned previous episodes. So
- 19:01Speaker 1: there's going to be you know, the portraits like we
- 19:04Speaker 1: already kind of have in Hogsmeat and diagon Alley, but
- 19:06Speaker 1: these ones are with upgraded technology and so now they're
- 19:10Speaker 1: going to be able to also like respond to guests,
- 19:14Speaker 1: whereas you know, obviously our prior ones are more just
- 19:16Speaker 1: recorded videos and just makes it look like they're talking
- 19:19Speaker 1: with each other, but these ones are going to have
- 19:20Speaker 1: some kind of upgraded technology where they will be able
- 19:23Speaker 1: to listen and interpret what you're saying and say something
- 19:28Speaker 1: back to you.
- 19:29Speaker 2: AI. Crazy stuff.
- 19:31Speaker 1: It's taken over, but exciting because it just I think
- 19:35Speaker 1: it just adds to the immersiveness and like the realness
- 19:37Speaker 1: of it. So that's super exciting that, you know, we
- 19:40Speaker 1: have this increased technology to be able to to make
- 19:43Speaker 1: these things upgraded. So that's exciting. And then there's also
- 19:48Speaker 1: going to be a lot of new characters in the land,
- 19:51Speaker 1: so you'll be able to meet some of them, you know,
- 19:54Speaker 1: when you're just walking down the streets. So there's going
- 19:57Speaker 1: to be a trio of exchange students that are coming
- 20:01Speaker 1: to Wizarding Paris, and each of them are from the
- 20:04Speaker 1: International schools, So Howard is in Bolbaton and over Morny,
- 20:09Speaker 1: So Overmarny is not being shafted here at all.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Wait, so we're going to get to see an Ilver
- 20:14Speaker 2: Morny uniform.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I mean for the first thing.
- 20:18Speaker 2: Yes, yes, that's so cool.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Yeah, and I like, I really would love well and
- 20:25Speaker 1: this wouldn't happen because obviously this is like in like
- 20:28Speaker 1: a like an international student right being there, But I
- 20:32Speaker 1: would just love Olver Morning merchandise, Like I just want
- 20:37Speaker 1: a house scarf it's for over Morning, And I'm going
- 20:41Speaker 1: to be so sad if like this student is dressed
- 20:43Speaker 1: like an over Morning student and we get to we
- 20:46Speaker 1: get to see what that uniform might look like, and
- 20:48Speaker 1: just like I just want it. And of course we
- 20:51Speaker 1: there's no reason we would have olver Moarning merch at
- 20:54Speaker 1: the administry of Magic Park, but maybe one day. It's
- 21:00Speaker 1: just nice that they're not being forgotten about. And so yeah,
- 21:05Speaker 1: so you'll be able to interact with these characters and
- 21:08Speaker 1: apparently they're also going to be holding a copy of
- 21:11Speaker 1: the Monster Book of Monsters as they interact with guests.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Not sure why why, but they're gonna be that's exciting Okay,
- 21:23Speaker 1: probably because we know we already kind of have that
- 21:25Speaker 1: like prop because you know it's right, and so that's
- 21:29Speaker 1: just something that they can have that's like a prop.
- 21:31Speaker 2: So and it has to do with the magical creatures,
- 21:35Speaker 2: which we know we're getting yep.
- 21:38Speaker 1: So I hope it's like probably the Hogwarts student that's
- 21:40Speaker 1: holding it because I feel like like the students at
- 21:44Speaker 1: Bobaton and over Mourning probably don't use them. Well maybe
- 21:46Speaker 1: they do, but I feel like they probably have their
- 21:49Speaker 1: own version of a Care of Magical Creatures book. So yeah,
- 21:55Speaker 1: that would be very interesting if like guests can also
- 21:57Speaker 1: interact and like stroke the spine, hmm, that'd be really cool.
- 22:02Speaker 1: But yeah, we'll see, we'll see. Yeah, And there's also
- 22:07Speaker 1: going to be a group of magical musicians and the
- 22:11Speaker 1: group is going to consist of three humans and a
- 22:14Speaker 1: magical puff skin named Plume, And it was revealed that
- 22:20Speaker 1: puff skins are related to Pigmy puffs and they're described
- 22:24Speaker 1: as having big eyes and being very cute. So I
- 22:28Speaker 1: think that's really exciting that they're integrating. It reminds me
- 22:33Speaker 1: of like like the Frog Choir and how they have
- 22:35Speaker 1: like the Frog It seems like they're just carrying it over.
- 22:38Speaker 1: And it makes sense too because we have music in
- 22:40Speaker 1: every part, so it's like we'll have the Frog Choir
- 22:42Speaker 1: and we have Celestina and now we'll have this.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Yeah group love a good musical performance.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Yes, And it's interesting to see if there's like if
- 22:54Speaker 1: they have a spot where they perform, or if they're
- 22:56Speaker 1: going to like walk the streets, that would be cool.
- 23:02Speaker 1: We'll see, we'll see. And then we also learned a
- 23:07Speaker 1: little bit about like the story that's going to be happening,
- 23:12Speaker 1: and part of it is the French Ministry of Magic
- 23:14Speaker 1: is trying to determine why so many people are now
- 23:17Speaker 1: trying to enter their building through that vine covered lift
- 23:21Speaker 1: that we see in crimes are going to evolve. So
- 23:23Speaker 1: another character that's going to be at the parks is
- 23:25Speaker 1: they're going to be stationing in orr from the French
- 23:28Speaker 1: Ministry of Magic near the entrance, who will like randomly
- 23:32Speaker 1: question some of the guests. But they're also going to
- 23:38Speaker 1: be there. Yeah, they're also going to be there to
- 23:40Speaker 1: help point out some of the hidden details along the street.
- 23:43Speaker 1: So they're going to question you, but then they're gonna
- 23:45Speaker 1: help you. But I love that. I thought it was
- 23:50Speaker 1: so funny that it's like they were like, why are
- 23:52Speaker 1: so many people the coming here?
- 23:56Speaker 2: Who showed you this?
- 23:58Speaker 1: Right? Because I always think of like, yeah, like the
- 24:02Speaker 1: like these more of these international magical communities as being
- 24:06Speaker 1: maybe more like hit Yeah, I don't know, just more
- 24:09Speaker 1: hidden than than the British. But yes, I thought that
- 24:14Speaker 1: was funny. And then we also learned that Cosmi Acadora
- 24:17Speaker 1: is actually going to be an actual character as well,
- 24:20Speaker 1: who will be there to interact with guests. That's what
- 24:24Speaker 1: I thought that was cool.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I wonder if it'll be like Oli Vanders and
- 24:29Speaker 2: there will be like a wand experience with her, or
- 24:33Speaker 2: if she's like wandering around the shop.
- 24:35Speaker 1: There is there's concept art of this and it shows
- 24:40Speaker 1: her just like in the shop kind of like talking
- 24:42Speaker 1: with people.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Hm hm.
- 24:45Speaker 1: So I don't know if that's a clue of maybe
- 24:47Speaker 1: like she'll just kind of be somebody who's in the
- 24:49Speaker 1: shop mm hmm. But even if it is just that,
- 24:53Speaker 1: like that's really cool to have. That's like an experience
- 24:56Speaker 1: we don't really have in the parks right now, where
- 24:59Speaker 1: you have in world characters like in the shops other
- 25:06Speaker 1: than obviously Olivander and the Olivander like want experience, but.
- 25:10Speaker 2: This opens up such a cool opportunity, Like I feel
- 25:13Speaker 2: like you could have Madam Malkin walking around in her shop,
- 25:16Speaker 2: and yeah.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I think it just like adds to the immersiveness. And
- 25:22Speaker 1: I will say that one thing that like Disney did
- 25:25Speaker 1: really well with like Galaxy's Edge, and it almost seems
- 25:28Speaker 1: like Universal is kind of taking a bit of that
- 25:31Speaker 1: for this is having in Universe characters walking around the park.
- 25:36Speaker 1: That is one of the best things is like when
- 25:39Speaker 1: you're walking around Galaxies Edge and the Stormtroopers come by,
- 25:41Speaker 1: or Kylo Ren comes by, or you see Chewbacco or Ray,
- 25:44Speaker 1: like it just adds to that immersive experience and like
- 25:47Speaker 1: you're really there. And I do think that's one thing
- 25:50Speaker 1: that like the Wizarding World of Harry Potter has been missing,
- 25:54Speaker 1: Like of course we do have like Celestina in all
- 25:56Speaker 1: of that, but just having them like walking the streets.
- 26:00Speaker 1: And sometimes it is hard to have characters walking in
- 26:03Speaker 1: the streets, Like there's a reason why at Disney World
- 26:06Speaker 1: you don't really have characters just walking freely, but in
- 26:08Speaker 1: Disneyland they can. The Florida parks are just busier and
- 26:14Speaker 1: a lot of times people are going to the Florida
- 26:17Speaker 1: parks if that's like their first time going to the
- 26:19Speaker 1: theme parks, and so sometimes it is hard to have
- 26:22Speaker 1: those characters just out and about because people just swarm them.
- 26:26Speaker 1: So it'll be really interesting to see. But I think
- 26:29Speaker 1: this will be a very different experience than like characters
- 26:32Speaker 1: walking around at Disney, because obviously those characters are more
- 26:38Speaker 1: well known, and also you've got a lot of little
- 26:40Speaker 1: children that just get really excited by the characters. And
- 26:43Speaker 1: I think Universal is a very kind of different experience
- 26:46Speaker 1: in that way. So they might be able to get
- 26:50Speaker 1: away with it there.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Which is interesting because if you look at like the
- 26:55Speaker 2: other sections, not the Wizarding World sections at Universal, they
- 26:59Speaker 2: do have characters who walk around the World sections. For
- 27:04Speaker 2: some reason, they don't they don't.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I think of it is that like it's like
- 27:09Speaker 1: the Hollywood section where they always have.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Like Marilyn Beetlejuice, like the characters from Scooby doo Ye
- 27:20Speaker 2: Scooby doo Yeah. Yeah, I don't know.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Well, and I mean I will say, I mean the
- 27:27Speaker 1: Wizarding World areas are obviously the most busy, and so
- 27:32Speaker 1: I wonder if it's also kind of like similar to
- 27:35Speaker 1: that Disney thing of why it's hard to have characters
- 27:37Speaker 1: walking around versus those other areas of the parks are
- 27:42Speaker 1: much more tame, I guess, But yeah, it might be
- 27:49Speaker 1: something that they're trying to do across Epic Universe because
- 27:51Speaker 1: I think of like I think of like Nintendo World
- 27:55Speaker 1: and like having characters walking around there. I think of
- 27:58Speaker 1: even like Dark Universe and the Universal Monsters walking around.
- 28:03Speaker 1: This new park just seems to be so different and
- 28:06Speaker 1: like being able to like open up these other experiences
- 28:10Speaker 1: that they haven't been able to do in the other parks.
- 28:11Speaker 1: But I hope, like you said, that if it does well,
- 28:14Speaker 1: that maybe they'll revisit adding it to the existing parks
- 28:18Speaker 1: as well, because how cool would it be if you're
- 28:20Speaker 1: like walking around like the wand Shop and then all
- 28:24Speaker 1: of a sudden, like you know, the wand maker just
- 28:27Speaker 1: comes up behind you and starts talking to you about
- 28:30Speaker 1: the wand that you're looking at and telling you about
- 28:32Speaker 1: the properties of that wand or just helping guide you
- 28:36Speaker 1: or like no, you want something like this, and then
- 28:38Speaker 1: they just take you over. It's just such an immersive experience,
- 28:41Speaker 1: So we'll see, there's definitely potential for it yeah, and
- 28:48Speaker 1: then the last thing that they kind of talked about
- 28:50Speaker 1: was the circus, so she didn't want to spoil anything
- 28:53Speaker 1: you know about the show, and she kind of shared
- 28:56Speaker 1: some stuff that we already know, like that there's going
- 28:58Speaker 1: to be like aerial acts and puppetry, but some of
- 29:01Speaker 1: the new information she shared is about the queue for
- 29:04Speaker 1: the show. So they're trying to replicate the tents that
- 29:08Speaker 1: we see in the Harry Potter films, you know, where
- 29:09Speaker 1: they appear smaller on the outside, but then they're larger
- 29:12Speaker 1: on the inside, and so they describe the experience as
- 29:16Speaker 1: like you walk through multiple layers of tents and each
- 29:19Speaker 1: one will get bigger on the inside instead of getting
- 29:21Speaker 1: smaller like you would anticipate. So that's how they're hoping
- 29:25Speaker 1: to create that illusion, which is cool. Yep. So yeah,
- 29:31Speaker 1: so lots of new interesting tidbits to get excited about.
- 29:35Speaker 1: And the last bit of news that I saw around
- 29:39Speaker 1: Universal is that we had previously talked about like the
- 29:42Speaker 1: different ticket types you could get, and before only passholders
- 29:46Speaker 1: could get single day tickets to Epic Universe, but they
- 29:49Speaker 1: did just announce that those single day tickets are now
- 29:52Speaker 1: on sale for everyone. But it looks like they're not
- 29:56Speaker 1: available until like June first, so you can't get single
- 29:59Speaker 1: day tickets during like that first like the first week
- 30:03Speaker 1: or weekend of the park being open, which makes sense.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Passholder tickets for the first month were sold out as well,
- 30:11Speaker 2: so I wonder if just so many pass holders cashed
- 30:14Speaker 2: that in for May that is just like that.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Makes sense too, Yeah, that makes sense. So yeah, so
- 30:20Speaker 1: that's exciting. I mean, I still think a lot of
- 30:22Speaker 1: people who aren't passolders would probably take advantage of the package.
- 30:28Speaker 1: But this does open up the opportunity of if you
- 30:30Speaker 1: were going to Orlando for something else and you just
- 30:32Speaker 1: wanted to do one day at Epic Universe, you're not
- 30:35Speaker 1: necessarily pigeonholed now into getting that package. Yeah cool, Yeah,
- 30:42Speaker 1: that is everything. Hopefully, hopefully it's.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Everything until the day after this comes out, until.
- 30:50Speaker 1: This very afternoon when we're recording something breaking news, something
- 30:54Speaker 1: will happen. But lots of exciting things to look forward
- 30:57Speaker 1: to for sure. Okay, So for our main discussion today,
- 31:04Speaker 1: we thought we would talk about sorting at the Wizarding Schools.
- 31:09Speaker 1: So we're gonna talk a little bit about Hogwarts. We're
- 31:11Speaker 1: gonna talk a little bit about ilver morning, we're gonna
- 31:14Speaker 1: talk a little bit about how do we feel about sorting,
- 31:17Speaker 1: Like do we sort too soon? Is there anybody sorting
- 31:20Speaker 1: that we don't agree with? So strap in here we go.
- 31:27Speaker 1: So starting with starting at Hogwarts. So of course we
- 31:30Speaker 1: know Hogwarts has their sorting ceremony takes place at the
- 31:35Speaker 1: start of term feast. We have our hat. It's placed
- 31:38Speaker 1: down a stool in front of the Great Hall. Our
- 31:41Speaker 1: hat then sings a long Rambley song of introduction, and
- 31:45Speaker 1: luckily you know, the hat does change it up each year,
- 31:48Speaker 1: but it does always contain information of the hat's origins
- 31:52Speaker 1: and also the criteria of the four Hogwarts houses. So
- 31:56Speaker 1: then you know, each of our students in the first
- 31:59Speaker 1: year go up to the hat and have the hat
- 32:01Speaker 1: place on their heads one by one, and the hat
- 32:04Speaker 1: speaks the name of the house for which they are
- 32:05Speaker 1: best suited.
- 32:08Speaker 2: I just love just picturing the sorting hat hanging out
- 32:11Speaker 2: in Dumbledore's office, just spending the entire year composing this
- 32:15Speaker 2: song and just taking it so seriously.
- 32:19Speaker 1: I feel like it is so proud of it, and
- 32:23Speaker 1: I completely agree. I could see multiple drafts in versions
- 32:29Speaker 1: that have come about, and I wonder, like, is Dumbledore
- 32:32Speaker 1: like sitting at you know, his death, just annoyed, trying
- 32:38Speaker 1: to do work that is up there where he's like
- 32:42Speaker 1: the hat's like, hey, Elvis, how about this line? I
- 32:48Speaker 1: just you know, double doore with his sass, you know,
- 32:50Speaker 1: I think he'd enjoy it on some level, but then
- 32:52Speaker 1: at some point just be like it's fine, just sing it.
- 32:57Speaker 1: It's fine.
- 32:57Speaker 2: The first two hundred versions were all so fine, and.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Then you've got like Fox who's sitting there like I'm
- 33:06Speaker 1: just gonna catch him flames right now because I can't
- 33:09Speaker 1: handle this anymore.
- 33:11Speaker 2: This is torture burst into flames.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Oh man, I just yeah, that could be. I really
- 33:18Speaker 1: picture that's how it would happen. Like I just oh,
- 33:21Speaker 1: I can't imagine. I can't imagine. This hat just sits
- 33:24Speaker 1: up there quietly.
- 33:26Speaker 2: I'm picturing this going down while like Phineas Nygellus Isa,
- 33:32Speaker 2: he's like throwing things at the hat.
- 33:35Speaker 1: And then the worst part is, right is after these
- 33:38Speaker 1: headmasters like pass On, they're still stuck with the hat
- 33:42Speaker 1: because their portrait is in the office. They just can't.
- 33:47Speaker 2: See never ending.
- 33:49Speaker 1: It's never ending. Oh my god. At least they can
- 33:51Speaker 1: like leave their portrait too, so they're not like fully stuck.
- 33:54Speaker 1: But yeah, man, I've got the visual here.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Maybe that's why they pretend to sleep. So like, if
- 34:02Speaker 2: they pretend to sleep, maybe the sorting hat won't ask
- 34:05Speaker 2: their opinion on the song.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Right, this is new canon that I am jumping right
- 34:11Speaker 1: in on. I love it. We learn of the hat's
- 34:16Speaker 1: origin during the songs, as I mentioned, and according to
- 34:20Speaker 1: the legend, the hat once belonged to Godrick Gryffindor and
- 34:23Speaker 1: it was jointly enchanted by all four founders to ensure
- 34:27Speaker 1: that the students would be sorted into each of their
- 34:29Speaker 1: houses according to each founder's particular preferences in students. So,
- 34:36Speaker 1: I mean, we just talked about the sorting hat possibly
- 34:38Speaker 1: being annoying, but it's also like a very clever object.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Like if you really think about it, it's this object
- 34:46Speaker 1: that contains the intelligence of the four founders. It can speak,
- 34:53Speaker 1: and it's skilled and legilimacy because it needs to be
- 34:56Speaker 1: able to look into the head of who's wearing it
- 34:59Speaker 1: and determin and their capabilities, and the fact that it
- 35:03Speaker 1: can even respond to the thoughts of the wearer. And
- 35:08Speaker 1: I think when you think of it all this way,
- 35:10Speaker 1: this kind of is very terrifying.
- 35:13Speaker 2: A little bit. Yeah, it's a little too.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Smart, a little too smart, and but just also a
- 35:21Speaker 1: very cool object, I think, in a very cool concept.
- 35:26Speaker 1: We also know that the sorting hat has another ability.
- 35:29Speaker 1: On top of you know, this sorting and this legitimacy,
- 35:33Speaker 1: it also acts as a magical portal by which the
- 35:36Speaker 1: sord of Gryffin door can be accessed. And so, as
- 35:40Speaker 1: we know, Drir Gryffindor enchanted the sword to appear whenever
- 35:43Speaker 1: a member of his house asks for help while wearing
- 35:46Speaker 1: the hat, and we do see this happen twice in
- 35:48Speaker 1: the series.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I've always kind of wondered, like more about how
- 35:54Speaker 2: this works. Like, obviously it's a portal. I don't understand
- 35:59Speaker 2: how that works. The sword just comes through, and then
- 36:03Speaker 2: like are there requirements for how dire the situation has
- 36:08Speaker 2: to be before the sword will appear.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Right, Because it's like if it's whenever a member asks
- 36:14Speaker 1: for help versus like, I mean, there's a lot a
- 36:20Speaker 1: lot of situations where you can need help but wouldn't
- 36:22Speaker 1: necessarily need a sword. Yeah, yeah, a moment.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Your life would have to be threatened or like serious injury,
- 36:30Speaker 2: because that makes sense otherwise it's like, oh, I need
- 36:34Speaker 2: help on this essay. I'm going to fail transfiguration sword
- 36:37Speaker 2: appears like.
- 36:39Speaker 1: What well, and I bet that's true because you know,
- 36:43Speaker 1: both times we see it happen in the series, the
- 36:45Speaker 1: person's life is in danger, you know, like we have
- 36:50Speaker 1: Harry with the Basilisk, we have Nebble with in the
- 36:52Speaker 1: GHINEI ironically both with snakes.
- 36:55Speaker 2: But yeah, maybe it only appears to attack Slytherin snakes.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Oh you're because you know their rival, right, He's like, oh,
- 37:04Speaker 1: you're battling a Slytherin. Let me get you that sword.
- 37:07Speaker 2: There's a snake.
- 37:09Speaker 1: A sword. Yeah, I could see that. It's I think
- 37:13Speaker 1: that there's probably a component of you know, you also
- 37:18Speaker 1: needing to be really worthy. And I wonder if also,
- 37:21Speaker 1: like I don't know, or maybe it is just any
- 37:24Speaker 1: member of the house, because I think that my problem
- 37:28Speaker 1: with this, and as we'll talk about later in terms
- 37:30Speaker 1: of do we think there's any sortings that maybe aren't right.
- 37:35Speaker 1: I think that if the sword appears to just any member,
- 37:39Speaker 1: that could be problematic because I think there are some
- 37:42Speaker 1: people that were incorrectly sorted into Gryffindor that you wouldn't
- 37:45Speaker 1: necessarily want to have access to the sort of gryffindor,
- 37:50Speaker 1: so is there a component of there needs to be
- 37:54Speaker 1: a true intent, like somehow the hat can sense because
- 37:58Speaker 1: you know, again it's and I think the way we
- 38:01Speaker 1: see it portrayed in the movies is different than how
- 38:04Speaker 1: it actually like happens, because I do believe you're supposed
- 38:08Speaker 1: to be like wearing like the hat, which is ironic
- 38:11Speaker 1: because then the sword comes in and like bops you
- 38:13Speaker 1: in the head. I mean it's a big sword, but
- 38:19Speaker 1: like I think it's more like you just feel it
- 38:21Speaker 1: and then it comes out and it's like Hermione's bag,
- 38:23Speaker 1: like all of a sudden, the sword just comes out.
- 38:25Speaker 1: But I think, you know, if the requirement really is
- 38:28Speaker 1: there of like you need to have it on your head,
- 38:30Speaker 1: then that opens the door for the hat to be
- 38:33Speaker 1: able to use legilimacy in that moment to kind of
- 38:36Speaker 1: sense what you need to use the sword for your
- 38:39Speaker 1: intentions of using the sword versus just I'm presenting this
- 38:45Speaker 1: sword to anybody, and that would make sense why you
- 38:48Speaker 1: have to have the sword on your head for it
- 38:50Speaker 1: to appear, and it wouldn't necessarily appear to just anybody, right,
- 38:57Speaker 1: possibly mm hmm, Yeah, I think we do. We don't
- 39:06Speaker 1: know enough about that and about the requirements, and.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Like there's got to be some sort of stipulation. You
- 39:16Speaker 2: would think.
- 39:17Speaker 1: I could see for sure if the hat, if you're
- 39:20Speaker 1: if you're wearing the hat, and the hat senses that
- 39:22Speaker 1: you are in dire peril and you really are somebody
- 39:28Speaker 1: who is really truly possessing the traits of Gryffindor. But
- 39:34Speaker 1: then I also think, like, how often do you just
- 39:37Speaker 1: have the hat with you in these dire situations? Like
- 39:42Speaker 1: people aren't just walking around with the sorting hat, you know,
- 39:47Speaker 1: So how helpful is this really? I feel like Gryffindor's
- 39:51Speaker 1: intentions were were good here, but how logistically, how realistic
- 39:56Speaker 1: is it that obviously, you know, Harry got really lucky
- 39:59Speaker 1: because is the hat was brought to him.
- 40:05Speaker 2: But you don't always have a phoenix hanging around that knows.
- 40:11Speaker 1: You're in peril. Interesting, So I wonder how I can't
- 40:15Speaker 1: imagine this is a very very common occurrence. Of course
- 40:20Speaker 1: we see it twice in the series, but yeah, very interesting.
- 40:29Speaker 1: And the sorting hat too, is also a little stubborn.
- 40:35Speaker 1: I would say, I feel like it's notorious for refusing
- 40:39Speaker 1: to admit when it has maybe made a mistake when
- 40:43Speaker 1: sorting a student. And you know, we'll talk about this
- 40:47Speaker 1: a little bit more later, but I think, in all
- 40:51Speaker 1: fairness to the hat, and has stated in the Potomore writings,
- 40:54Speaker 1: the hat has made remarkably few errors in judgment, and
- 40:58Speaker 1: I would agree with that.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean there's a few that come to mind,
- 41:08Speaker 2: which again we're going to talk about. But I mean
- 41:13Speaker 2: you got to think how many students that hat has sorted.
- 41:18Speaker 1: It's like a right, right, Yeah, having even ten ten
- 41:23Speaker 1: duds in there out of thousands of students is a
- 41:27Speaker 1: pretty good percentage.
- 41:30Speaker 2: Right, And you have to think about too, I mean, yes,
- 41:36Speaker 2: these are eleven year olds, but it is possible that
- 41:44Speaker 2: some of them have more of an ability to maybe
- 41:49Speaker 2: influence the hat than you would think.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Especially those Slytherins.
- 41:56Speaker 2: Yeah. So, yeah, there's always room for error, especially you know,
- 42:03Speaker 2: if you think about how like humanoid this hat is
- 42:08Speaker 2: human error is a thing.
- 42:10Speaker 1: So well when you have to think like, yeah, it
- 42:14Speaker 1: has or because you know, like I mentioned, really the
- 42:18Speaker 1: reason it has this intelligence is because of the way
- 42:20Speaker 1: that it was enchanted by the four founders, and the
- 42:24Speaker 1: four founders are humans, like they wouldn't have been able
- 42:28Speaker 1: to perfectly sort students either. So the hat isn't this
- 42:32Speaker 1: like all powerful like above them object. It is truly
- 42:38Speaker 1: the creation of them. It's it's there, like they're How
- 42:44Speaker 1: they would sort the students is what they put into
- 42:47Speaker 1: the hat, and right, they can't be perfect either. So
- 42:52Speaker 1: but the hat does a pretty good job because I
- 42:54Speaker 1: think because of its skill and like legilimacy, like it
- 42:58Speaker 1: can see even more than I think you can see
- 43:01Speaker 1: in yourself. Well for sure, I mean we see that.
- 43:05Speaker 1: I think I think, especially with people like Harry and
- 43:13Speaker 1: kind of the battle and I know that, you know,
- 43:16Speaker 1: the argument could be made is because like the hat
- 43:18Speaker 1: was sensing like the Baltimore in him, and that's kind
- 43:21Speaker 1: of like our first Easter egg of Harry being like
- 43:24Speaker 1: a Hoore Crux. But at the same time, I think
- 43:28Speaker 1: even without the piece of Baltimore, I think that there
- 43:31Speaker 1: are aspects of Harry that could have worked in Slytherin House. Yeah,
- 43:37Speaker 1: not like I don't think he to me is not
- 43:40Speaker 1: somebody who was missorted. And we'll talk a little bit
- 43:43Speaker 1: later about the fan theory of primary and secondary houses,
- 43:48Speaker 1: because I find that very interesting. But I think for Harry,
- 43:52Speaker 1: Like I think, to me, it's very clear that his
- 43:54Speaker 1: secondary house is Slytherin, even without Baltimore being part of him,
- 44:00Speaker 1: and I think the hat could probably sense that too.
- 44:04Speaker 1: But of course I do think that that's a really
- 44:06Speaker 1: big red hearing that Baltimore is part of him? Is
- 44:08Speaker 1: that in the hat is sensing that, but it's not
- 44:12Speaker 1: necessarily smart enough to know that it's Baltimore.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Yeah, but the hat even says like that thirst to
- 44:18Speaker 2: prove yourself right, and that's very much just a part
- 44:22Speaker 2: of Harry's character that's not Baltimore. So yeah, I think
- 44:25Speaker 2: you're right if there were to be a secondary house
- 44:28Speaker 2: for Harry, definitely Slivern.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Yes, Yeah, And I think JK. Rowling had some interesting
- 44:38Speaker 1: notes about the sorting hat in the Potomer writings, where
- 44:42Speaker 1: she talked about how she came up with the idea
- 44:46Speaker 1: of the sorting hat and in her early plans for
- 44:51Speaker 1: Hogwarts there wasn't a sorting hat, and she had considered
- 44:56Speaker 1: a lot of different ways. She always knew that, you know,
- 44:58Speaker 1: these students needed to be sorted into houses, but wasn't
- 45:04Speaker 1: you know, had a bunch of different ideas of how
- 45:06Speaker 1: that sorting would happen, and so some of that is
- 45:11Speaker 1: having like an elaborate, like Heath Robinson ished machine that
- 45:15Speaker 1: did all kinds of magical things before reaching a decision.
- 45:18Speaker 1: And so if you're not familiar at Heath Robinson machine
- 45:22Speaker 1: was a machine that was used by like the British
- 45:24Speaker 1: codebreakers during World War One, and J. K. Rowling noted
- 45:29Speaker 1: that she felt that the sorting idea was like both
- 45:32Speaker 1: too complicated and too easy, and kind of ultimately ruled
- 45:36Speaker 1: out this idea. And then another idea that she had
- 45:41Speaker 1: was placing statues of the four founders in the entrance hall,
- 45:47Speaker 1: and then the statues would kind of like come alive
- 45:49Speaker 1: and select the students into their house. And she did
- 45:54Speaker 1: note that she thought that this idea was a bit
- 45:56Speaker 1: better than like the other machine, but also just didn't
- 45:59Speaker 1: feel quite right. And then she kind of said that
- 46:06Speaker 1: she just wrote down a list of all the ways
- 46:09Speaker 1: in which people are chosen in life, so like any
- 46:12Speaker 1: meenie mighty mo drawing short straws chosen by team captains,
- 46:17Speaker 1: and also like names out of a half, and like
- 46:19Speaker 1: that was like probably like the ha moment. And then
- 46:23Speaker 1: that's where the idea of putting on a hat which
- 46:26Speaker 1: came to be known as the sorting Hat, was born.
- 46:29Speaker 2: I love that working through the writer's black and just
- 46:34Speaker 2: making lists. Sometimes that's the only way.
- 46:38Speaker 1: And I think sometimes too, it's funny because you end
- 46:40Speaker 1: up like your idea that you go with is so
- 46:44Speaker 1: much less complicated than some of the ideas you initially
- 46:47Speaker 1: thought of. Like when she was thinking of this, like
- 46:50Speaker 1: this machine kind of that would be like a codebreaker, right,
- 46:54Speaker 1: like I'm breaking the code of what house you're in.
- 46:56Speaker 2: But I agree, you'd have to explain how it works,
- 46:59Speaker 2: like described that somehow. Like it's just so much when
- 47:03Speaker 2: you're dealing with the written word.
- 47:06Speaker 1: Right, and what would how would that even work? Do you?
- 47:08Speaker 1: I just picture like needing to go up and like
- 47:12Speaker 1: put a drop of your blood like into the machine,
- 47:15Speaker 1: Like how like an electrode into your brain? Like I mean,
- 47:22Speaker 1: I'm sure it'd be less complicated than that because of magic,
- 47:26Speaker 1: but like, I can't imagine how that would work. I think,
- 47:29Speaker 1: like the statue is coming to life is kind of terrifying.
- 47:31Speaker 1: But as we'll talk about in a little bit, I
- 47:33Speaker 1: think that idea didn't completely go away for her. But yeah,
- 47:39Speaker 1: I think the sorting hat just like and maybe it's
- 47:41Speaker 1: because it's ultimately what we know, but it just like
- 47:45Speaker 1: it just works. And I think of all the ideas
- 47:48Speaker 1: that you know, she went through, like it is the best,
- 47:51Speaker 1: and like the sorting hat has just become so iconic.
- 47:55Speaker 2: Yeah and.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I just I think she definitely went with the
- 48:00Speaker 1: best idea. So one thing that comes about sometimes with sorting.
- 48:06Speaker 1: You know, we talked about that the hat is usually
- 48:08Speaker 1: very good at at sorting and usually very quickly, but
- 48:12Speaker 1: sometimes we have something called a hat stall, and a
- 48:16Speaker 1: hatstall happens when the sorting hat can't make a quick
- 48:18Speaker 1: decision of where to sort a student, and specifically, a
- 48:22Speaker 1: hatstall happens if it takes the hat longer than five minutes.
- 48:28Speaker 1: So hat stalls are very rare, and according to pot
- 48:30Speaker 1: or More the potter More writings, it really only happens
- 48:34Speaker 1: maybe like once every fifty years. So we do know
- 48:38Speaker 1: that even though like hatstalls are rare, we do have
- 48:41Speaker 1: some characters that have come close to being hat stalls.
- 48:45Speaker 1: So of characters that Harry particularly knows and that we
- 48:49Speaker 1: kind of are introduced to, both Hermione and Neville came
- 48:52Speaker 1: very close to being hat stalls. So the sorting hat
- 48:56Speaker 1: deliberated where to put Hermione and if you know, she
- 49:00Speaker 1: longed more in Gryffindor or raven Claw, and it took
- 49:02Speaker 1: the hat nearly four minutes to decide. And in the
- 49:06Speaker 1: case of Neville, the hat was determined to place Neville
- 49:10Speaker 1: and Gryffindor. But Neville was very intimid intimidated by the
- 49:14Speaker 1: reputation of the Gryffindor house, and kept requesting the hat
- 49:17Speaker 1: to place him in huffle Puff. So, of course, as
- 49:21Speaker 1: we know, maybe they went. You know, they obviously went
- 49:24Speaker 1: back and forth and back and forth, but the hat
- 49:26Speaker 1: ended up coming out on top literally because it was.
- 49:30Speaker 2: On top of his hat, but.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Pun was not intended there. But yeah, Neville obviously, you know,
- 49:39Speaker 1: he was ultimately sorted into into Gryffindor, and the.
- 49:43Speaker 2: Hat doubled down on this by presenting him the sword
- 49:46Speaker 2: when he needed it.
- 49:47Speaker 1: So you didn't think you believed in this, and here
- 49:51Speaker 1: I'm going to prove extra to you.
- 49:54Speaker 2: I told you so. Moment, He's probably like.
- 49:58Speaker 1: Thinking back, Hey, you remember all those years go, Well,
- 50:00Speaker 1: here you go. If you didn't believe it yet, I'm
- 50:03Speaker 1: gonna drop this sword on your head and make it clear.
- 50:06Speaker 2: As day knock some sentence into ya.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Yeah, But I think like the hat stall idea also
- 50:13Speaker 1: like plays really well to the that fan theory of
- 50:18Speaker 1: the primary and secondary houses that we'll talk about. I
- 50:20Speaker 1: think that obviously that's not necessarily an idea that JK.
- 50:25Speaker 1: Rowling made Cannon, but I feel like we see it
- 50:28Speaker 1: in play when the hat has a hat stall, because
- 50:30Speaker 1: I think some people are very true strong, like whatever
- 50:36Speaker 1: their secondary house is, they might be very very strong.
- 50:39Speaker 1: And I don't know if you've ever taken like the
- 50:41Speaker 1: sort in quizzes that are online, they give you like
- 50:43Speaker 1: a percentage, yeah, and those are really interesting, especially like
- 50:49Speaker 1: for me, I get a very like obviously I now
- 50:52Speaker 1: I always sort into Slytherin, but raven Claw, which was
- 50:58Speaker 1: the house I was originally sorted into and was my
- 51:01Speaker 1: house for several years, I always get that as a secondary,
- 51:05Speaker 1: and it's like a very strong secondary. Like now it's
- 51:08Speaker 1: not like, oh, you're ten percent like Raymond Claw. It's
- 51:11Speaker 1: like almost like a fifty to fifty split. And I
- 51:14Speaker 1: wonder if in these individuals where like that's truly where
- 51:18Speaker 1: the hat sometimes struggles, because it's like you truly could
- 51:22Speaker 1: excel in either of these houses and I just see
- 51:26Speaker 1: the hat weighing percentages in their mind. And then I wonder,
- 51:32Speaker 1: if you have somebody who's like fifty to fifty, does
- 51:34Speaker 1: the hat just say like, I'm just gonna use to
- 51:39Speaker 1: the dice, right, and wherever you go is where you go.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Yeah. I always find that so fascinating that these quizzes
- 51:50Speaker 2: like actually give the same answer over and over. It's
- 51:57Speaker 2: just so interesting, like.
- 51:59Speaker 1: The algori rhythm is algorithm in these quizzes.
- 52:03Speaker 2: Like I always get Hufflepuff one time, I've randomly got Gryffindor,
- 52:08Speaker 2: I don't know why, but never since. And then yeah,
- 52:13Speaker 2: like you're saying those ones with the percentages, it's always
- 52:16Speaker 2: Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, and I'm like five percent Slytherin, five
- 52:21Speaker 2: percent Gryffindor. Yeah.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's like, and I think too, some of
- 52:26Speaker 1: it's interesting, and like I think that part of it
- 52:30Speaker 1: might be is because we learn how to answer it
- 52:32Speaker 1: to get a certain house. It's just a very Slytherin
- 52:35Speaker 1: thing to do. And I've definitely secretly I'm down for that.
- 52:42Speaker 1: But yeah, I would just love I would love like
- 52:45Speaker 1: a little like novella of being in the hats perspective
- 52:49Speaker 1: during sorting, especially when especially like when sorting like Hermione, like,
- 52:56Speaker 1: I would love to have the Hats perspective of that,
- 52:58Speaker 1: because she is somebody who you know, very clearly just
- 53:05Speaker 1: exhibits raven Claw, but also one hundred percent understand like
- 53:13Speaker 1: why she's in Gryffindor, and she also like needed to
- 53:16Speaker 1: be in Gryffindor for like the plot. But but she's
- 53:21Speaker 1: also like a very clear Gryffindor too, and so I
- 53:26Speaker 1: just want to hear the hat. I don't know, I
- 53:28Speaker 1: just would I would have loved to hear the conversation
- 53:30Speaker 1: in her head as well during her sorting that she
- 53:34Speaker 1: had with the Hat. I don't know. I feel like
- 53:40Speaker 1: they could have went back and forth too, because I
- 53:42Speaker 1: think that she's somebody who probably went and sat up
- 53:45Speaker 1: there and was one hundred percent expecting to be put
- 53:47Speaker 1: in raven Claw. Very interesting, but we do know of
- 53:54Speaker 1: of two actual hat stalls that Harry, you know, interacts with,
- 54:00Speaker 1: Professor McGonagall and Peter Pettigrew. And so the Hat debated
- 54:05Speaker 1: whether to place McGonagall similarly similarly to Hermione in Ravenclaw
- 54:10Speaker 1: or Gryffindor, and debated for five and a half minutes,
- 54:13Speaker 1: so that's why she became a hat stall. And then
- 54:18Speaker 1: Peter Pettigrew was ultimately sorted into Gryffindor after the Hat
- 54:22Speaker 1: debated between Gryffindor and Slytherin, and the Hat being you know,
- 54:27Speaker 1: the little bit of you know, refusing to accept that
- 54:32Speaker 1: they make a mistake. And we'll talk more about Peter
- 54:35Speaker 1: Pettigrew later, but the Hat still refuses to accept that
- 54:38Speaker 1: that was maybe the wrong decision for Peter and cites
- 54:41Speaker 1: that the way that you know, Pettigrew ended up meeting
- 54:45Speaker 1: his demise was evidence of his correct sorting into Gryffindor
- 54:48Speaker 1: and being brave at the end. But we'll talk more
- 54:51Speaker 1: about Peter later because he yeah, I got, I got. Yeah,
- 54:55Speaker 1: We'll talk about Peter later because I've got thoughts about
- 54:58Speaker 1: about Peter and Peter sorting. So then, in contrast, so
- 55:05Speaker 1: ilver Morny is similar to Hogwarts, but also very different.
- 55:11Speaker 1: So like Hogwarts, elver Morny also has four founders and
- 55:14Speaker 1: four houses, and each of the houses here, instead of
- 55:20Speaker 1: being named after the names of the founders, it's named
- 55:24Speaker 1: after each of their favorite magical creature. So we have
- 55:27Speaker 1: Horn serpent, Wampus, thunderbird, and puck Wedgy. So JK. Rowling stated,
- 55:33Speaker 1: it is sometimes said of the ilver morny houses that
- 55:35Speaker 1: they represent the whole witcher Wizard. The mind is represented
- 55:39Speaker 1: by horn serpent, the body, wampus, the heart, puck Wedgie,
- 55:43Speaker 1: and the soul thunderbird. Others say that horn serpent favors scholars,
- 55:49Speaker 1: so horn serpent is the scholars, Wampus is warriors, puck
- 55:53Speaker 1: Wedgi is healer, and thunderbird is adventurers. It's very interesting.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Over Morning also has a sorting ceremony, okay. J. K.
- 56:05Speaker 1: Rolling stated that one by one, students are called to
- 56:08Speaker 1: stand on the symbol of the Gordian knot set into
- 56:11Speaker 1: the middle of the stone floor in silence. The school
- 56:15Speaker 1: then waits for the enchanted carvings to react. If the
- 56:18Speaker 1: horn serpent wants the student, the crystal set into its
- 56:21Speaker 1: forehead will light up. If the wampus wants the student,
- 56:25Speaker 1: it roars. The thunderbird signifies its approval by beating its wings,
- 56:29Speaker 1: and the Paquaddie will raise its arrow into the air.
- 56:34Speaker 2: H Yeah, I mean this very much seems like a
- 56:37Speaker 2: reimagining of that statues idea. Statues from the Hogwarts one.
- 56:44Speaker 2: I think it's interesting because, well, Hogwarts Houses, It's true,
- 56:50Speaker 2: obviously all of us have a little bit of all
- 56:52Speaker 2: four houses in US. I feel like that becomes more
- 56:58Speaker 2: so and more overlap with the ill mourning houses, just
- 57:01Speaker 2: in the way that they're presented of the you know, mind, body, soul,
- 57:06Speaker 2: that sort of thing. So yeah, it's I feel like
- 57:12Speaker 2: it's a little less obvious where people belong in the
- 57:15Speaker 2: over Morning houses.
- 57:17Speaker 1: And I was just thinking we should totally do an
- 57:19Speaker 1: episode on like houses Cowwarts houses, because obviously we're touching
- 57:25Speaker 1: on it a little bit in this episode. But yeah,
- 57:28Speaker 1: it'd be really cool to kind of look at the
- 57:31Speaker 1: real the true traits and kind of comparing, you know,
- 57:35Speaker 1: with the over Morning houses because like, you know, kind
- 57:37Speaker 1: of like how Jacky Role is saying how she envisions
- 57:39Speaker 1: them to kind of represent the whole person. And I
- 57:42Speaker 1: think that's why we see really that over even more
- 57:46Speaker 1: so overlap. Yeah, but yeah, I think like you were
- 57:50Speaker 1: saying this reimagining, I think it is. It seems like
- 57:53Speaker 1: that idea kind of still uh like stuck with her
- 57:57Speaker 1: a bit, and she just repurposed it here, and I
- 58:00Speaker 1: think it actually works better for ilver Mourny because it's
- 58:06Speaker 1: not like the statues of the founders. It's like these creatures,
- 58:10Speaker 1: and I just think visually like it just makes it
- 58:14Speaker 1: works better.
- 58:15Speaker 2: It's more mascots, like for it to work at Hogwarts,
- 58:20Speaker 2: I feel like it would need to be the house
- 58:21Speaker 2: mascots and not necessarily like human statues. No, I agree,
- 58:28Speaker 2: it just visually I feel like having like Lion, Serpent, Badger,
- 58:33Speaker 2: eagle would just be better than like, yeah.
- 58:38Speaker 1: Helga Hufflepuff, scary, choose you Scary she went statues like
- 58:44Speaker 1: coming to life, Like I don't know, Yeah, I think
- 58:45Speaker 1: for sure, like with animals and creatures, it just works better.
- 58:51Speaker 1: And also I mean similar to Hogwarts as well, there
- 58:55Speaker 1: is a similar situation to a hat stall that can
- 58:57Speaker 1: happen during sorting at Ilver Morny as well, and this
- 59:01Speaker 1: happens when one or like when more than one of
- 59:03Speaker 1: the carvings indicates its wish to have the student in
- 59:06Speaker 1: its house. So when this happens, the choice is completely
- 59:11Speaker 1: up to the student where they go, which I think
- 59:15Speaker 1: is interesting.
- 59:18Speaker 2: It's so different than arguing with the hat.
- 59:23Speaker 1: Well because I think it does and I think it
- 59:26Speaker 1: also takes because the hat is very like you know
- 59:29Speaker 1: we talked about is very stubborn and it's like, no,
- 59:31Speaker 1: I know where, I know where you're best suited, and
- 59:35Speaker 1: I'm going to put you there, even if it's you know,
- 59:37Speaker 1: and I think we do hear like right like and
- 59:40Speaker 1: we have like hairy tells, you know, like Elvis, like
- 59:45Speaker 1: you know, the hat will take into consideration like where
- 59:48Speaker 1: you want to go, like it did for me, like
- 59:50Speaker 1: I said, not Slytherin, not Slytherin, and ultimately you know,
- 59:53Speaker 1: the hat was like okay, well then we'll put you
- 59:55Speaker 1: in Gryffindor. So I think the hat's not like I
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: don't want to say the hat's not soulless because like
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: I mean, it's an object. But I think that you know,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: the hat's not even if it's stubborn, and like I
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: know best, I think it does true. We do see
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: it does take you know what you want in the consideration.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: But this seems to be more definitive of definitive of
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: like you go where you feel best. I'm sure this
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: is rare. Also, like hatstalls, so maybe it's not so
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: much of a You've got students choosing all the time
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: where they're going. But I could see this happening more
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: at Olver Morning than hat Stalls at Hogwarts two. But
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: you know, of course we don't have details about it really,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: but what it's like what you were saying about the
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: way that the houses are at Elver Morning, I could
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: see you walking up there in more than one being
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: like you you embody the qualities here. M h. But yeah,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: I think like that, you know, talking about hatstalls and
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: talking about you know, whatever that equivalent is at olver
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: Morny actually transitions really well into our next question about
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: like do we sort too soon? And I think that
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: we we'll talk about if we think we sort too soon,
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: and then we'll talk about the primary and secondary houses.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: So what do you think, Amy.
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: I don't I'm like, I was trying to think about this,
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: and I'm really torn because on one hand, I think, yes,
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: we do sort too soon, Like you're so different at
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: eleven years old than even like thirteen or fourteen, like
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: a couple of years later, so you know, there's so
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: much time to change between eleven and seventeen ten years old.
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: Like that's just I don't know. I feel like if
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: you if someone were to look at or a hat
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: were to look into my mind at eleven, it probably
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: wouldn't come up with the same answer as it would later.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: But on the other hand, you know, there are the
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: perks to sorting earlier. I feel like because people might
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: not have like as many walls up and be trying
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: to like influence how people perceive them or that sort
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: of thing when they're younger. I feel like that starts
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: to happen more later in your teen years, where you
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: try to like sculpt yourself to what you want to
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: be known as more than what you are. So I
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: don't know, I could see it both ways. What do
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: you think?
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: I you know, I agree because, especially as somebody who
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: has changed their Hagwarts house, I think that influences my
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: just my answer to this question a little bit. And
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: I think that one thing that you mentioned that just
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: I don't kind of really like stuck with me is
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: that I think sorting at eleven is actually probably a
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: good idea because exactly what you said, as you get older,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: you sometimes try to start like morphing yourself and your
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: personality and your traits into like what you want to
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: be yea versus like when you're younger and you're eleven,
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: like you don't truly like know yourself yet, and I
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: think the hat can see like subconsciously into your personality
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: traits more than you even can at that age. And
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: so I think in that regard it we don't sort
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: too soon. And I think we see that with like
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: Nevill right Like I think Neville at eleven does not
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: seem like a Gryffindor to me either, But clearly the
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: hat was a to see something in him that Neville
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: couldn't see, or really any of us couldn't see that
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: would come later in life to prove that ultimately he
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: had the makings of a Gryffindor from the beginning, and
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: the hat could see that and then we eventually see
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: it later. So I think that the hat does know
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: better than you do. But at the same time, I
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: think that sometimes it is too soon because things might
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: like happen in your life that really change like what
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: you're I don't know. I think it depends what you
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: think of the Hogwarts Houses as representing. And like again,
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: I think we should totally do an episode on this,
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: because there's a lot of different theories about there about
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: it is, like is it representing like your like who
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: you truly are or your ideals or like what you value,
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: and I think that matters as like depending how you
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: what theory you subscribe to also influences how you answer
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: this question. And I think as you get older, like
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: if it's more about like what you like what you value,
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: that could change. But I think that like, ultimately, I
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: don't know. I think maybe we don't sort too soon.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: But I think for me, I think when I first
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: was sorted into raven Claw, like that made so much
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: sense to me, and the things that made me a
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: raven Claw are still part of me. However, the things
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: that make me a Slytherin are just that much more pronounced,
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: and it just always like made more sense. And I
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: think that the people, or like the characters or just
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: anybody who's like, I don't know if my Hogwarts house
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: is really what I meant to be. I think I
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: should be this or whatever, Like I think lots of times,
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: the two houses that you're conflicted between are the ones
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: that like are the most similar in a way, you know.
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: So I think that's where that questionable where you sort
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: of too soon. It's hard to really answer because you
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: might be trying to compare two houses that are very similar. Mm,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: so like I don't know. I just I rambled around
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: my answer there because I don't really I don't really know.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: I think I completely agree with you and that it's
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: yes and no kind of yeah.
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: And I think what happens a lot of times when
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: people feel like it's shifted like where they would belong.
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: Life experiences are going to bring up different traits than
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: you more prevalently depending on what you experience. So you know,
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: in an alternate universe, maybe you grow up and you
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: lean more raven Claw than Slytherin, but like in this universe,
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: you experienced things that brought out more of the Slytherin traits,
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: so you leaned that way more.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: So.
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it's definitely interesting.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: It is, And I think I think it's just like
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: an impossible question to answer. I mean, I think you
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: could do this whole analysis, like mathematical analysis, right of
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: like here's all these people, and here's the houses they
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: were sorted into, and do they still feel that they're
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: that same house X amount of years later? And if
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: you find that, here's the like raven Claw I mean
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: coming out right though, but like if you find out
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: that your percentage of people who still agree with their
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: original sorting later in life is very high. And then
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: I think your answer is like, no, we don't soar
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: too soon because the majority of people still agree with
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: their Hogwarts house X amount of years later the majority,
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: you know. So it's interesting and I think it. I mean,
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: it could also be this case by case basis. Maybe
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: some people are sorted too soon, others aren't.
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: Well, and not everybody matures at the same rate. Right,
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: So if you're given one hundred and eleven year olds,
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: some of them are going to be very much the
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: person that they're going to grow into. Some of them
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: are not going to be. So it really just depends
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: on the person.
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: I think so. But I think too that I guess
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: to give credit again to the hat, Like I think
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: the hat can see things that you can't, and so
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: I think that there is just some I do believe
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: the hat does tend to make the right decisions, but
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: I don't know. I think about this a lot because
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: I think about my my switch from Raven Claude to Slytherin,
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: and this is where I think that the whole like
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: primary and secondary house theory is really really great and
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: I really wish that like this was something that that
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: you know JK. Rowling had actually made canon because it
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: really it really explains a lot, and I think this
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: would help people feel like, you know, people who do
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: think I was you know, I was sorted too soon,
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: I were sorted incorrectly. I think looking at the primary
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: and secondary like really makes sense. And this is something too,
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: like if we do an episode on houses that we
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: can dig into more. But the basis of this theory
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: is that you aren't really just sorted into like one house,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: but like two tiers of houses. So obviously a primary
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: and a secondary, and your primary house defines why you
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: do things the way you do it, and the secondary
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: kind of defines how you do it. Which we could
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: even do a whole episode on this theory of primary
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: and secondary houses because there is so much there and
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: if you just google it, there's like a really good
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: like Tumblr page it's called Sorting Sorting hat chats uh
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: dot tumblr dot com, which breaks down this theory. There's
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: I mean there's literally charts of like like ven diagrams
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: overlapping the houses. There's all these analysis and the Gryffindoor
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: primaries and Gryffindor sec It's just it's such a cool
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: theory that's been thought out, and I think that when
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: I stumbled across this idea of primary and secondary houses,
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: that helped me really, uh make peace with switching and
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: feeling like I'm a sliff Sliffin door. Yep, there we
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: go there, which is so funny because I am not
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: Gryffindor at all, but being a Slytherin primary and a
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: raven Claw secondary. So it helped me to feel like
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: even though I changed my house identity from raven Claw
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: to Slytherin, I wasn't fully letting go of raven Claw.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: I still understand that it's a big part of me
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: and who I am in my Wizarding World journey. Yeah,
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: and I wonder if some of these these characters that
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: are like hat stalls, if really there are people that
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: tend to maybe exhibit more of this like primary and
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: secondary like more than other people, and that's why the
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: hat stall is happening.
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: Yeah. I like that theory.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: I mean.
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: It makes sense, and I think I talked about this
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: a little bit on like our first episode when we
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: dove into our houses and stuff. But yeah, if you
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: think about, like if your primary is the why in
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: the secondaries, the how my why it's a hufflepuff is
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: very like right and wrong and just trying to like
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: I guess, be on like the right side of things,
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: and then like by how I do that is more
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: of the raven Claws side of like presenting research. If
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: I'm in an argument, I'm going to dig up every
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: case study on whatever it is, and I'm going to
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: give you cited research about why it is right.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: Yes, And it's funny that you bring like that up
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: because I was just looking through here, so like for example,
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: like so taking our houses. So, a hufflepuff primary values people,
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: all people. They value community. They bond to groups rather
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: than solely individuals, and they make their decisions off of
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: who is in the most need and who is the
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: most vulnerable in who they can help. They value fairness
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: because every person is a person, and they feel best
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: when they give everyone that their chance. Even directly wrong,
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: a hufflepuff will often give someone a second or fifth chance.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: Now a raven Claw secondary plan it basically is raven
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: claw secondaries plan. They collect information, they strategize, they have tools,
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: They run hypotheticals and try to plan ahead for things
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: that might come up. This is me to a tee.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: They build things of varying degrees of practicality and actual usefulness,
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: and they can use that they can use later, whether
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: that's an emergency supply pack, a vast knowledge of Renaissance
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: aretistic techniques and supply if or a series of lists
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: and contingency plans. They feel less at home and improvaization
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: oh my god when they improv and they're more comfortable
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: planning ahead and taking the time to be prepared. So
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: that's the description for a raven class secondary versus They
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: define a raven Claw primary as having a constructed system
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: that they test their decisions against before they feel comfortable
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: calling something right. This system might be constructed by them,
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: or it might have been taught to them as children,
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: or it might have been discovered by them at some
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: point in their life, but it gives them a way
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: to frame the world and the confidence and their ability
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: to interact with it morally. So there's like a bit
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: of a difference. Is there's a similarity there obviously because
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: they're both raven Claw, But I really like the idea
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: of the how because like even for me too, like
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: so a Slytherin primary they define it as somebody who's
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: fiercely loyal to the people they care for most. Slytherin
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: is the place where you make your real friends. They
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: prioriti ties individual loyalties and find their moral core in
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: protecting and caring for the people they're closest to. Slytherin's
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: reputation for ambition comes from the visibility of this promotion
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: of the self, and they're important people. Ambition is something
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: you can find in all four Houses, but it's Slytherin.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: It's most obviously selfish because their morality system is me
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: and mine first kind of idea. And so it's funny
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: because I think for me, like one of the biggest
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: things that I think makes me a Slytherin is my
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: self preservation nature. But reading through how they're defining this
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: raven Claw secondary, I am a planner to a tee like,
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: I do not do spontaneous things except go to the
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: air's tour and get tickets two days before the show.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: But other than that, I am not spontaneous. I am
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: the researcher, I google, I all of that, But I
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: would say that I do things in a more raven
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: Claw way in the house sense. So I just love
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: this theory and this is definitely something we can dig
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: into more. But yeah, it's just it's so cool what
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: fans come up with.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: You know, mm hmm yeah. Reading the Raven Claus secondary
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: this is like one hundred percent both of us. Like
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: to a tee, this is hilarious. Like plan for every
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: situation before I make any phone call, I've got like
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: a script down of you know, it could go this
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: way and I'm gonna need this script or I gotta
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: go this way with this script, like I literally have
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: in my phone because I love to win arguments. One
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: of the biggest arguments you can have as a Taylor
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: Swift fan is obviously, when someone says she only writes
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: about breakups. I've got a whole list that's like one
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: hundred songs that are not about breakups.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: Ready to go.
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: It's just right, It's very accurate. This is this is great,
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: it is.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: And it's funny because you know what's really what's what's
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: really funny is I was looking so I was thinking, Okay,
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: what if I still was a raven Claw, right, and
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: Slytherin was my secondary. It's not because if I look
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: at this, it says Slytherin secondaries improvise, which is the
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: complete opposite as a raven Claw secondary. And I'm like
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: reading the Slytherin secondary and I'm like, this is not
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: me at all then, But at the same time, when
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: I read about the characteristics of Slytherin, I'm like, oh, absolutely,
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: and so it makes sense why it's my primary or
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: like I mentioned, you know why you do things, and
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: I think that like I for me, I'm a planner
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: because I have self preservation. So why I do it
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: is because of self preservation, which is Slytherin to a tea,
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: and how I do it is the raven Claw way.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: It's totally It's totally true. This theory is so great,
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: so great, but uh, I think it's in, you know,
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: and I think it is important for the idea of
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: talking about sorting because I think it like I said before,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: I think it helps explain why some people do change
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: their houses or why some characters it seems like is
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: this really the best place for them? Is it not?
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: You know, the best place? And I think if we
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: think of these secondaries, right, and we think of these
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: characters that were like hat stalls, it really starts to
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: help explain why you have people like McGonagall and hermione
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: that were Gryffindor primaries and raven Claw secondaries, because especially hermione,
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: if you were to put this plan this, this put
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: this into place. Right, she also is, without a doubt
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: fits that description of a raven Claw secondary and a
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: Gryffindor primary. According to this theory, is someone who trusts
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: their moral intuitions and have a need and a drive
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: to live by them. They feel what's right in their
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: gut and that matters and guides them. If they don't
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: listen to an act on that, it feels immoral. And
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: I feel like that describes her too.
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: Oh yeah, because the how she does that is through
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: her planning and noted.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: And the reason she's doing it that way is she's
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: driven by trusting her moral intuitions and having a need
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: to live by them. So yeah, I just love this theory.
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: We definitely should talk about it more because I think
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: it makes even more sense than the way houses and
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: sorting is presented to us in the books. Yeah, Like,
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: if I was JKR and I read through this primary
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: and secondary, I'd be like, I wish I thought of
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: that because it just makes so much sense. It does,
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: I mean, and kind of thinking about if we sort
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: too soon, and this everything we've been talking about, Like,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: you know, we both have people that we do we
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: do disagree with their sortings. So who is somebody that
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: you think was sort of incorrectly?
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: The first one that came to mind for me is
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: Zacharias Smith. I agree, and I get it because I
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: feel like they had to have a non likable Hufflepuff, right,
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: But I just it doesn't make sense to me. Like
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: he's not loyal at all. He leaves the Battle of Hogwarts.
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: He doesn't stay and defend his school and his classmates
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: and his people. He's out of there. He's very like
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: gossipy in a way, Like he's more like which I
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: feel like is also the opposite of Hufflepuff. Like he's
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: very like almost going after the vulnerable instead of defending
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: the vulnerable, which is not Yeah, he's just I don't
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: like him. The island.
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: He doesn't belong on Hogwards Where I was gonna say,
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: where would you put him?
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: See, that's the hard one. It's like, yeah, where would
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: he go? I feel like the the safe and obvious
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: answer is Slytherin, But like, I also don't feel like
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: he belongs there either.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: Well, and I was gonna say, were you gonna say
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: Slytherin just because like he's unlike, here's me, but he's
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: missing that loyal piece though of Slytherin too.
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: It's like he's got like a little bit of ambition
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: in that I think he wants to be viewed a
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: certain way and maybe that's why he's putting other people
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: down to try and elevate himself. But that's about it.
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: Like he doesn't have other Slytherin traits. I don't think,
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: so he's definitely a grfindor no, I.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: Mean, do you think that he's one of those people
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: that falls into that category of will take the rest? Yes,
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: he's not a true hufflepuff, but he ended up there
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: because the idea of we will take whoever does not
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: fit somewhere else.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Or I wonder if it's a situation where
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: the sorting hat saw a potential in him and like
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: he could have been these things but and it just
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: never came to fruition, right, or something else happened in
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: his life that brought out these different attributes and tamped
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: down what it could have been if that event never happened.
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I mean, and I think thinking about his
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: sorting kind of brings up extra questions for me about
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: sorting and the sorting hat, especially when it comes to
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: Hufflepus huffle my god, especially when it comes to Hufflepuff House,
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: because and we didn't really talk about this before, but
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: like that whole idea of having a house that will
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: take the rest and what is that? What is the
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: implication of that for sorting when you've got this like
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: catch all house and it's like, is is Hufflepuff kind
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: of this crutch for the sorting hat when they really
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: don't know or they're like on the student's head and
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: they're like, gosh, this person really doesn't fit anywhere, might
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: as be Hufflepuff. And it's like, and then what does
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: that also mean for people who are truly Hufflepuff and
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: truly embody the characteristics of the house. Is there a
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: bias towards Hufflepuff because the sorting hat can kind of
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: just put anybody there if they don't know where else
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: to put. I think hard to categorize.
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: I think it's interesting because I don't think you could
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: have that in any of the other houses, Like, I
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: don't think you could put someone in there as a
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: catch all and the other students would like fully accept them,
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: Whereas Hufflepuff. I can understand why that would be because
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: like one of the traits is to kind of like
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: accept and like protect your group. So if that person
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: is put into your group, the true Hufflepuffs in that
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: group are gonna be like, well, they're one of us,
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: even though they're not exactly like us, Like we gotta
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: like rally around and like they're one of us. So
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: they're coming with us and they're part of our little
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: protective bubble. Whereas grif.
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: Yeah, like huffle Puff, like Hufflepuff, huffle Puff. I can't
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: I say huffle poff today I said, I said a
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: million different versions of it. They're like the least unbiased
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: Hups because they're like, we'll take anybody, where arguably every
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: other house is biased because they're looking for a certain
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: person to fit a certain category. Yeah, well that's I mean,
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: but that I think it's unfortunate too. At the same time,
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: we almost needed like a fifth Hogwarts house that could
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: have been the I don't want to say the leftovers, but.
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: Like the like the people is right, but it's like
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: I think that so that Hufflepuff house could have been
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: truly just the true, the true Hufflepuffs.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: But I agree with you. I think that there's a
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: reason why Hufflepuff is the house of we will take
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: the people who do not fit in other places, because
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: the people that are in that house that truly are
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: Hufflepuff embody the right characteristics to take anybody. But then unfortunately, sometimes,
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: as we see I think with Zachariah Smith, we end
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: up with some duds in that scenario. Yeah, yeah, no,
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: I agree for sure, and I think so. I mean,
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: I had a couple of people that came to mind.
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: Of course. The first one is Peter Pettigrew, like we
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: mentioned earlier, and I get the Sorting Hat tries to
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: make its case for Peter Pettigrew going out like a
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: true Gryffindor in a brave way, and I think he
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: went out in a coward I think it was still
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: a cowardly way.
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: It was not a brave act. It was a moment
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: of hesitation, It was not Yeah he's not.
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: I just think the Sorting Hat doesn't want to admit
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: because Peter turned into such a a rat right right here,
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: I am in another pun, But like he did, he
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: turned into such a rat and I think that. I
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: also think that at the end of the day, though
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: we needed Peter to be in Gryffindor, right, he had
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: to for the plot he had. And this is why
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: I think it's easy to say, you he totally was
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: sorted in the wrong place, Like part of me doesn't
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: even want him in my Slytherin house either, but he
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: has he has that ambitious, ambitious nature self preservation. But
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: I would say he is self preservation in a negative way,
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: where I think I have self preservation in a positive way.
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: I would never screw over the people that I'm loyal
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: to to save you know what I mean, and save
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: myself in the way that he did. But I think
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: that that's so Slytherin of him. But again, he needed
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: to be in Gryffindor because he needed to become friends
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: with James and all the rest of them in order
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: to betray them for the whole idea of the plot.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: So there would have never really been I think, a
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: story where he actually could have been in Slytherin. And
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: then you had this story of a Slytherin and a
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: Gryffindor becoming part of a best friend group and everything
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: still happening the way it did, So I get it,
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: but I think it's so hard to defend him as
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: being a true Gryffindor. And I guess maybe he was,
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: I don't know, brave to go against his friends and
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: brave to like, you know, be so aligned with Baltimore,
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: like I don't know, it's b es to me.
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: And the thing is, like, even the redemption, it's not
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: a redemption because he didn't know that the hand was
- 1:28:22Speaker 2: going to turn on him and choke him. If he
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: knew that that was going to be the end result
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: of him turning against Baltimore, then yes, maybe that could
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: have been a redemption arc and he decided to do
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: the right thing and sacrifice himself, but he didn't he
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: didn't know that was going to happen. So no, yeah,
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: sorting Hat, you are wrong.
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: Yeah, sorry, sorting Hat, but I do not agree. And
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: the other one I thought of was Percy Weasley.
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: Yeah, he comes up.
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think he's easier to defend as in
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: the end with his redemption if you want to call
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: it that being Gryffindor, much easier than Peter. But I
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: think that Percy really really showcases some true Slytherin characteristics.
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: He's so ambitious, he's willing to betray his own family
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: for his own benefit in his career and his own achievements.
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: And on top of that, he enjoys the prestige that
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: comes with certain titles and positions, and that is such
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: a Slytherin thing. Like I used to say that when
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: I was so like gung ho about getting my PhD.
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: I think back when I was still like a little ravenclaw.
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: My thought was like, well, I want to do it
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: for the knowledge, And then as I got older, I realized, no,
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: it was more. It was still for the knowledge, but
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: it also was for the title and the achievement of it,
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: which is very Slytherin, right. And I see that same
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: thing in Percy, and I think that it would have
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: made a lot of sense for him to be in Slytherin.
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: And I think if he wasn't a Weaseley and the
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: hat wasn't like, oh, another weasling, I will stick you
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: in Gryffindor, it would have made a lot of sense
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: if he had been sorted. And I wonder if he
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: wasn't a Weaseley, if he had that, if he would
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: have been sorted into Slytherin.
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: Percy's interesting because it's also very easy to apply some
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: of those Gryffindor elements to why he did what he did.
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: If you think about being very like stuck to your
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: morals and like what you think is right and all that. Like,
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: I think he did like believe the ministry propaganda. So
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: I think he really thought that he was fighting for
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: those right morals when in reality he wasn't. But yeah,
- 1:30:57Speaker 2: so he's an interesting one.
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: When I think that I agree completely, and I think
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: that the fact that he did believe in all of
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: it is what ends up leading to the redemption, because
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: in order to have that redemption, you kind of have
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: to have that moment where you're like, wait, the way
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: that I thought and the way that I saw this
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: all this time was actually wrong. And that's what truly leads,
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: in my opinion, to a true redemption and why I
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: agree that he had a true redemption. And in the
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: end one percent showcased why he's a Gryffindor, especially when
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: you compare him though to Peter Pettigrew and the quote
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: unquote redemption of Peter Pettigrew. It is not like we
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: said comparing those two characters really shows how where are
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: the differences and why I truly think that the Sorting
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: Hat was ultimately right about Percy, but was ultimately wrong
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: about Peter Pettigrew. And I think even the thought the
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: other thing with Percy too is just the thought too
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: of the Sorting Hat, like keeping like the family all
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: in the same house and like you know, and even like,
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: oh we have another Weasley, you must be gryffindor like
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: I know, you know, I know just where to put you.
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: I think that's like a weird thought pattern as well,
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: because just because you're in the same family does not
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: necessarily mean that like you all belong in the same house, right,
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: And we tend to see this with sorting is that
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: people like I mean, we don't see this all. We
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: obviously have other cases where that's not the case. But
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: you know, like with the Patel sisters and stuff, we
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: see we do see differences, which sometimes I forget since
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: in the movie they have them in the same house.
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: So it's not like the Sorting Hat has this like
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: solid Oh, if you're in the same family, I'm going
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: to put you in the same house. That's not true,
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: But there is something about the Weasleys, and I guess
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: it could just be because at the end of the day,
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: their strongest trait is bravery at the end of the day,
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: even if individually, it'd be very very cool to look
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: at each Weasley and think of them in that primary
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: and secondary category, because I think that's maybe what differentiates
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: them is what they're like secondary houses would be. But
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: at the core of it, they all have that same
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: value that's probably instilled into them by like their parents
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: that like make them gryffindor like it's like they're true
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: they're true values. But yeah, I think for sure they
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: definitely have different secondaries because their personalities are different. But
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: but yeah, those are the two characters that kind of
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: instantly came to my mind as people that are so
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: I guess Percy, I don't necessarily disagree with it, but
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: I think he's an interesting character to really kind of
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: look at the possibility of he could have been sorted
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: into the wrong house.
- 1:33:56Speaker 2: Loo must Solan. In this segment, we like to highlight
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: positive and uplifting things happening in the fandom, So Harry
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: Potter and the Curse Child on the West End is
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: offering a chance for a school in Great Britain to
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: win a trip to the show for an entire class
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: for free, which is awesome. So according to the show's website,
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: this giveaway is meant to help make theater more accessible
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: and allow a younger generation to experience the magic of
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: the stage. And this is also in celebration of World
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: Book Day, which is in May. So the deadline to
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: enter this contest is March twenty first, which is the
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: day after this episode releases, so hopefully you're listening to
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: this on the day it released. According to the contest rules,
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: there can only be one entry per school and the
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: person entering has to be over eighteen, so teachers, that's
- 1:35:10Speaker 2: probably going to be you, so enter for your class. Yeah.
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: This just looks like a really great opportunity and so
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: exciting for whatever school gets chosen to go. And there
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: will only be one winner, and again that's for a
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: school located in Great Britain. You can see the contest
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: entry form on the show's website at UK dot Harry
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: Potter at the play dot com.
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: Nice. This is great because I think, especially when you
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: mentioned that the whole idea here is to help make
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: theater more accessible for a younger generation because I love
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: theater and I think a lot of today's kids don't
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: necessarily appreciate it. And I see this when I go
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: on my Disney cruises, right and there's all these kids
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: in the Broadway Theater protections, and they just don't seem
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: they have the interest in it. And so I think
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: doing more of what we can to make these shows
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: that can be also enticing for children and make it
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: more accessible for them to go, hopefully we'll build more
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: young theater lovers because I think it's really important.
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I got that, And just think about like as
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: a kid walking into that show because it is so magical, Like,
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: I just think that's so cool. And whatever class gets
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: to go, they'll probably have a great time.
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: So yeah, I hope. So I think this is the
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: perfect show to do this with.
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely, so nice. So last week's discussion question was
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: what unanswered questions do you have from the Fantastic Beast movies?
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: And we got a lot of good responses to this. So,
- 1:36:54Speaker 2: starting off from Carolyn, she says, I wanted to see
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: how the battle between Dumbledore grindel Wald was going to
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: be connected to newt This connection felt like a stretch
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: other than the timing of the films, so I was
- 1:37:07Speaker 2: curious to see how it was going to play out
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: on screen.
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: Yeah, we talked about it. I don't know if it
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: was our extended conversation that's available exclusively over on our Patreon,
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: but Carolyn, we had this question too.
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure, I think everybody was looking forward to
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: seeing that duel. Yeah, and then we of course have
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: some male from Jerry as well our wonderful podcast friend.
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: So Jerry says, fun episode as usual. It was especially
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: nice to hear marjor Laine again, though in my speak
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: best listen through I am hearing her past incardation from
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: time to time. The discussion covered many of the unanswered
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: questions I have from the Fantastic Beast series. Of the
- 1:37:53Speaker 2: ones you discussed in depth, the ones that I am
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: most interested in are the Grindall Graves backstory and the
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: Ncghini continuing story. My Grindel Graves had cannon from when
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: I first listened was that the real Graves traveled to
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: Europe prior to the events in the film, and while
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: there was ambushed by Grenovald and I had assumed like
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: fake Moody, the real Graves kept imprisoned to do polyjuice
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: potion and to question for information to support the impersonation
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: until the author said polyjuice wasn't being used. And I
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: think it was a great waste to introduce Nighini, such
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: wonderful character played by a wonderful actor with a doomed future,
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: and just drop her like that. Agree, Jerry Agree? She
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: goes on to say, But of questions not addressed in
- 1:38:50Speaker 2: the episode, I want to know how and why Vogel
- 1:38:53Speaker 2: was able to completely pardon Grindelwald on page ninety five
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: with the screenplay, he says. And so, after an extensive investigation,
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: the Confederation has concluded that insufficient evidence exists to prosecute
- 1:39:07Speaker 2: Galet Grindewald for the crimes against the mobile community of
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: which he was accused. He is hereby absolved of all
- 1:39:14Speaker 2: his alleged crimes. But what about the wizards killed during
- 1:39:20Speaker 2: his escape from custody at the beginning of the second
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: movie and those killed at the rally at the end
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: of that movie. Those, especially the deaths that occurred during
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: the escape, seemed to me to be unquestionable, and his
- 1:39:34Speaker 2: apparent killing of graves before the first movie, or at
- 1:39:37Speaker 2: least kidnapping, since we don't really know, Vogel just seems
- 1:39:41Speaker 2: to be addressing crimes against Muggles, and those are bad.
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: Of course, he is guilty of ordering the murder of
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: the Muggul family, including the baby also toward the beginning
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: of movie too and killing that poor mother and baby
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: Chillen and more. Wizarding World justice is certainly pretty dreadful
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: if Grindall Graves could wor ordered Tina and New executed
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: without trial, and one man can apparently pardon a multiple murderer. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: but how could the system allow Vocal to do this?
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: Inquiring minds want to know one more unanswered question from
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: the very end of the Third Fantastic Beast series. Is
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: the marriage of Jacob and Queeney now legal? If so,
- 1:40:25Speaker 2: how did Tina or someone arrange a special dispensation just
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: for them? Or are all muggle slash no match marriages
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: relationships in the US now legal? And if the marriage
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: isn't legal, then what is going on there?
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: All of very good question, yes, Jerry, for sure, and
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: I yeah, especially the what you mentioned about Grinival just
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: kind of getting pardoned for things here, and it's you know,
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: a part you can't even just say, well, maybe he
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: had like Vogel under some you know spell or just
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: because like you mentioned, how can everybody else allow Vogel
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: to do that. I can't imagine that grindle Bald just
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: had all of them, like you know, under the imperious
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: curse or some other spell to like make them do
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: his bidding. Like, I just can't imagine how you would
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: do that with everybody, Like where's the checks and balances
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: on Vogel. There doesn't seem to be any.
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: Yeah, no, Yeah. And then the wedding, I wonder, I
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: wonder if it's just more like ceremonial and not so
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: much legally recognized. It could be.
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I could agree with that. And at the end
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: of the day, that's all that matters really, I think
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: is that to them, like they know that they're doing
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: that commitment on that level, And yeah, I could see
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: it not being actually legal at least not at this time.
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: M hm.
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: Yeah, all great questions.
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: Okay, And for this episode, our question for you all
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: is a question that we asked ourselves during this episode
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: is do you think we sort too soon? We would
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: love to hear from you, especially on this topic, because
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: as you could hear Amy and I really never answered
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: the question for ourselves, and so we want to know
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: what you think. So you can drop us an email

- 1:43:17Speaker 1: I think we had some good questions. I think we'll
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: definitely be doing a follow up episode to this where
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: we delve deeper into actual houses because definitely a lot
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: to talk about there.
- 1:43:30Speaker 2: Yeah, and yeah, for sure.
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: Perfect Well, until next time, I'm Nicole and I'm Amy.
