- 1:31Speaker 1: news so far of the afternoon. And let's get some
- 1:34Speaker 1: notes real quickly here.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Biggest news so far of the afternoon is, is everything
- 1:40Speaker 2: going on with the NCAA.
- 1:42Speaker 1: And, of course, when you look at the NFL, both
- 1:45Speaker 1: with joint statements saying, hey, basically this.
- 1:48Speaker 2: The Big Ten is on board. Notre Dame is on board.
- 1:50Speaker 2: The SEC is on board. No pro players are coming
- 1:53Speaker 2: back to college football.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Also, Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti has received a five-year
- 1:58Speaker 1: contract extension that will run through 2023. Josh Pate has
- 2:03Speaker 1: released his college football playoff predictions on On3 and ESPN.
- 2:07Speaker 1: He has the University of Miami winning the college football
- 2:10Speaker 1: playoff over Oregon. His final four, Texas and Oregon on
- 2:13Speaker 1: one side of the bracket. Notre Dame and Miami on
- 2:16Speaker 1: the other side of the bracket. That's where our good
- 2:18Speaker 1: friend Josh Pate has the college football playoff. Also, LSU
- 2:23Speaker 1: today in a vote for the SEC. They abstained from
- 2:26Speaker 1: a Wednesday's vote.
- 2:27Speaker 2: It was 15-0.
- 2:28Speaker 1: President's votes and athletics directors voted to confirm penalties for
- 2:32Speaker 1: the NFL returnee banned ESPN reports.
- 2:34Speaker 2: LSU said, hey, we're not interested. We're not voting on this,
- 2:38Speaker 2: and we are out of this.
- 2:40Speaker 1: And, of course, I want you to make sure you
- 2:42Speaker 1: follow us on all platforms, Facebook.com forward slash Jake Wimberly
- 2:45Speaker 1: on X at Jake Wim. Subscribe on the YouTube channel.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Just search Jake Wimberly as well. Again, Rafael Esparza will
- 2:51Speaker 1: join us here momentarily. High school football coming up this weekend.
- 2:55Speaker 1: We'll jump into a couple matchups while we're out on Esparza.
- 2:57Speaker 2: You got Brandon taking on Tupelo coming up this weekend.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Number 11, Brandon, courtesy of Mississippi Gridiron, and our friend
- 3:04Speaker 1: Chris Brooks, number one, Tupelo. You've got players all over
- 3:06Speaker 1: the field. It's going to be on the blue turf
- 3:08Speaker 1: in Tupelo. Brandon Shields picks Tupelo.
- 3:11Speaker 2: To win 28-21. I think this is going to be
- 3:13Speaker 2: a phenomenal football game.
- 3:14Speaker 1: These two teams have played twice over the last year
- 3:16Speaker 1: and a half, once for the state championship at the
- 3:19Speaker 1: end of 24, and then last year to.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Start the season. I think you're going to see.
- 3:23Speaker 1: A highly competitive four-quarter ball game. You've also got number
- 3:26Speaker 1: nine Starkville traveling down to Oak Grove as you've got
- 3:31Speaker 1: Brett Morgan, rather, First-year head coach at Starkville comes over
- 3:34Speaker 1: from West Point. They'll be taking on Oak Grove and
- 3:38Speaker 1: Drew Causey's team. Brandon Shields picks Oak Grove to win 35-28.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I think, again, you've got another great close fourth-quarter ballgame.
- 3:45Speaker 1: And then you've got Gulfport taking on Picayune this weekend,
- 3:48Speaker 1: number four on Mississippi Gridiron's rankings, taking on number 12, Picayune.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Shields has Gulfport to win 38-24. They're breaking in a
- 3:55Speaker 1: new quarterback. They've got a new running back room. They've
- 3:57Speaker 1: got a lot going on there. Picayune expects to make
- 4:00Speaker 1: a return there in South State. as well right now
- 4:04Speaker 1: we got raviola sparza as you can find him at vsl.sports
- 4:09Speaker 1: on our screen as far as a happy wednesday.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Sir happy wednesday to you i love you when you
- 4:14Speaker 3: talk a little high school football because don't forget i
- 4:16Speaker 3: used to do high school football betting ads back in
- 4:18Speaker 3: the day so uh it's uh it's it's fun to
- 4:21Speaker 3: hear all the stuff about that but what really picky
- 4:24Speaker 3: you come on man they should they should easily win.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Yeah you would think that they you would think that
- 4:29Speaker 1: they should Hey, you know, I know high school football is.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Huge here at Mississippi. It's huge in your state of Louisiana.
- 4:35Speaker 2: How is it out west? I know California is big.
- 4:38Speaker 1: What about Nevada, some of those other states in between
- 4:41Speaker 1: Texas and the coastline?
- 4:43Speaker 3: Well, Vegas, like Bishop Gorman and Durango, I mean, Bishop
- 4:47Speaker 3: Gorman is pretty much owned by the Fertittas pretty much.
- 4:51Speaker 3: If you don't know who the Fertittas are, just Google them.
- 4:53Speaker 3: They pretty much built the Palms Casino, Red Rock Casino,
- 4:57Speaker 3: owned Sacramento Kings at one point. But it's kind of
- 5:01Speaker 3: interesting how Vegas, the top football teams, they play their
- 5:07Speaker 3: high school teams, but they travel. They go to California.
- 5:10Speaker 3: They go to Hawaii. Those football programs are prepping these
- 5:14Speaker 3: kids for college. Ohio State and Notre Dame and stuff
- 5:18Speaker 3: like that. So they could care less who they're playing
- 5:21Speaker 3: in their state rivals. It's always about, oh, who's coming
- 5:24Speaker 3: to their backyard? Because I know Bishop Gorman has one
- 5:26Speaker 3: of the top Miami, one of the top Miami, Florida
- 5:29Speaker 3: schools coming in in two weeks. That's what they prepare for.
- 5:31Speaker 3: They could care less about who they're playing for their state.
- 5:36Speaker 2: All right.
- 5:36Speaker 1: So earlier today, the NFL, along with the SEC and
- 5:40Speaker 1: the Big Ten and Notre Dame have all said, hey,
- 5:42Speaker 1: College players can't come back. LSU, the one team they
- 5:45Speaker 1: abstained from the vote with the SEC when the SEC
- 5:48Speaker 1: presidents and athletics directors voted on it.
- 5:50Speaker 2: We will get to some week zero matchups and get
- 5:51Speaker 2: your thoughts on that.
- 5:52Speaker 1: But first off, the college football circus looks like the
- 5:56Speaker 1: conferences are trying to battle this back. But LSU, some
- 6:00Speaker 1: of their players with their, you know, I guess legal
- 6:02Speaker 1: teams have said, hey, we're going to hold the NCAA
- 6:05Speaker 1: in contempt of court. We're going to sue the SEC.
- 6:07Speaker 1: We're going to sue the Big Ten. Here come the
- 6:08Speaker 1: more lawsuits.
- 6:10Speaker 3: I mean, it's just ridiculous. I mean, first of all,
- 6:12Speaker 3: the NCAA should have stepped in a long time ago.
- 6:14Speaker 3: And second of all, it's the parents and the agents
- 6:18Speaker 3: and all that. Come on, people. If you sign a
- 6:20Speaker 3: contract in the NFL, I don't care if it's a
- 6:22Speaker 3: practice squad or you left to go to NFL, you're done. Period.
- 6:26Speaker 3: No ifs, ands, or buts. You missed out on the
- 6:29Speaker 3: NIL money because someone told you you were good enough
- 6:31Speaker 3: to make an NFL team. Someone told you you're good
- 6:34Speaker 3: enough to start an NFL team. Too bad you weren't.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Too bad. You know, we call that we call that gambling.
- 6:40Speaker 3: You gambled on yourself and you lost.
- 6:43Speaker 2: No, I agree.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Miko on Facebook says, hey, he's heard you for years
- 6:48Speaker 1: on our shows. He said your face actually matches your voice.
- 6:51Speaker 1: He says he says, but he loves he loves your content,
- 6:55Speaker 1: loves what you do.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Thank you. And that's kind of funny. My voice matches
- 7:00Speaker 3: my look. So that's kind of.
- 7:02Speaker 1: All right, let's get into it. We got week zero
- 7:05Speaker 1: coming up. How excited are you for week zero?
- 7:08Speaker 3: I am. I mean, because there's something more interesting in
- 7:11Speaker 3: some of these blowout games. Like, I'm not saying San
- 7:14Speaker 3: Jose State's going to beat USC, but their team totals
- 7:18Speaker 3: eight and a half or San Jose state. And I'm
- 7:20Speaker 3: not going to butcher the former Navy head coach. That
- 7:24Speaker 3: was Navy. And this is a second year at San
- 7:26Speaker 3: Jose state last year. He was past happy. And if
- 7:29Speaker 3: you watch them at Navy, all they did was run
- 7:31Speaker 3: the ball. So that his first year in San Jose state,
- 7:33Speaker 3: he's past happy, but now they have a good running
- 7:35Speaker 3: back to a team and tantrum. So if they can
- 7:38Speaker 3: run the ball, Maybe put some pressure on USC's defense early.
- 7:41Speaker 3: I think they could score 9, 10 points. I'm not
- 7:44Speaker 3: saying they're going to beat USC. It's probably going to
- 7:46Speaker 3: be like 58 to 10. But I really want to
- 7:49Speaker 3: see how San Jose State, because they're supposed to be
- 7:51Speaker 3: in the basement of Mountain West. But I think they
- 7:54Speaker 3: can get out of it. And I think Northern Illinois.
- 7:57Speaker 3: I said that. Northern Illinois is in the Mountain West.
- 7:59Speaker 3: They're going to be in the basement.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Hey, it looks like money is really coming in on TCU.
- 8:05Speaker 1: This line has now grown to nine.
- 8:07Speaker 3: It's funny. Last week, what did I tell you when
- 8:10Speaker 3: we were talking about this? It was seven and seven
- 8:12Speaker 3: and a half last week. I said, get it because
- 8:14Speaker 3: it's going to be 10 by kickoff, and it might
- 8:15Speaker 3: be 10 by tomorrow. So I'm a little bit shocked
- 8:19Speaker 3: at how much money has come in already because last
- 8:22Speaker 3: time I checked, it's only Wednesday. Last time I checked,
- 8:25Speaker 3: we still have until Saturday to play this game. So
- 8:27Speaker 3: if it goes past double digits– We might have to
- 8:30Speaker 3: take a shot at North Carolina. I think their defense
- 8:32Speaker 3: is going to be a little bit improved. I don't
- 8:34Speaker 3: think they're going to be a big circus like last year.
- 8:38Speaker 3: I think they have some athletes that can probably play,
- 8:41Speaker 3: and TCU has a lot of questions coming in this year.
- 8:44Speaker 3: So if it keeps on climbing, I can't believe I'm
- 8:47Speaker 3: going to say this. I'm actually going to look to
- 8:48Speaker 3: maybe play North Carolina if I can get a good
- 8:50Speaker 3: double-digit number.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Hey, do you think Bill Belichick makes it through this year?
- 8:54Speaker 2: What has he got to do to make it?
- 8:57Speaker 3: It doesn't matter. I think he makes it no matter what,
- 8:59Speaker 3: and then they cut ties with him after the season.
- 9:00Speaker 3: What's the point of, okay, you lose your first three
- 9:03Speaker 3: or four games? What's the point of getting rid of you?
- 9:05Speaker 3: I mean, when they can just get rid of you,
- 9:08Speaker 3: if they let Dabo Sweeney still stick around when they
- 9:11Speaker 3: get a fire at him already because he refuses to
- 9:13Speaker 3: play the college football game right now, I think Belichick
- 9:17Speaker 3: is going to be okay.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Hey, you mentioned USC.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Looking at the shop, I'm at 39.5 right there against
- 9:23Speaker 1: San Jose State.
- 9:24Speaker 2: That's a 2 o'clock kickoff on Saturday. What do you
- 9:27Speaker 2: look for in a game?
- 9:28Speaker 1: I mean, well, first off, do you even play this
- 9:29Speaker 1: game or do you just kind of just watch it
- 9:31Speaker 1: and let's just see how USC looks?
- 9:33Speaker 3: I mean, when it was 35 and a half when
- 9:35Speaker 3: it opened up, I would have played it. But now
- 9:36Speaker 3: it's 30 and a half and there's a 39. I
- 9:39Speaker 3: think I saw a bet MGM a couple of days
- 9:41Speaker 3: ago or I'm sorry, a couple of hours ago. So I.
- 9:45Speaker 3: I still think there's value with USC because I think
- 9:49Speaker 3: USC still has a chip on their shoulder because everyone's
- 9:51Speaker 3: talking about Ohio State. Everyone's talking about Oregon. Everyone's talking
- 9:55Speaker 3: about Penn State and Indiana. Hey, you know, we're still
- 9:58Speaker 3: here in the Big Ten. So I think they might
- 10:01Speaker 3: want to put a statement game on 3 o'clock Eastern
- 10:04Speaker 3: Standard Time on a Saturday.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Mikko also asked who's the starting quarterback for North Carolina.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I believe it's Billy Edwards. He's a transfer from Wisconsin.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Wisconsin doesn't throw the ball.
- 10:15Speaker 2: A whole lot.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Which scares me a little bit. But that's why, if
- 10:19Speaker 3: you're looking at North Carolina, their defense was on the
- 10:23Speaker 3: field a lot. So if you can run the ball
- 10:24Speaker 3: and you can give your defense a little break, I
- 10:27Speaker 3: think that could help North Carolina's defense. But yeah, I
- 10:29Speaker 3: wasn't impressed with this kid in Wisconsin. Now I don't
- 10:32Speaker 3: think I'm going to be impressed with him in North Carolina.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Hey, you got a fairly intriguing ACC kick on 230.
- 10:38Speaker 1: NC State at Virginia. Virginia played for the ACC title
- 10:41Speaker 1: last year against Duke. Virginia minus four. This one, the
- 10:45Speaker 1: total is something around 53. This feels like a game
- 10:48Speaker 1: where maybe you take– let me ask you this.
- 10:49Speaker 2: College football, overs and unders are totals. What do we
- 10:53Speaker 2: see trends typically?
- 10:55Speaker 1: I mean, I know it's across the board, but where
- 10:56Speaker 1: the NFL, we know typically– I believe I'm right on this.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Unders are going to hit earlier because of defensive play.
- 11:01Speaker 1: What about college football?
- 11:03Speaker 3: It's a little bit the same. I mean, I think
- 11:05Speaker 3: we all know defense is probably a little bit ahead
- 11:06Speaker 3: of the game. I mean, because quarterbacks have so many
- 11:08Speaker 3: new faces at right receiver, at running backs. Stuff like defense,
- 11:12Speaker 3: you're pretty much running the same either scheme on that. Yeah,
- 11:14Speaker 3: there's new faces on it, but you're just running a scheme.
- 11:16Speaker 3: You don't have the ball. So I think defense is
- 11:19Speaker 3: sometimes a little bit of a head. There's some games
- 11:21Speaker 3: I think we see some totals going over and there's
- 11:23Speaker 3: a lot of games I see screaming, screaming under in
- 11:27Speaker 3: this matchup, this UVA game. It's finally coming to the
- 11:31Speaker 3: number that I thought it was going to be. I
- 11:32Speaker 3: made this number like a solid three and a half
- 11:35Speaker 3: over the summer. I'm talking like probably early June and
- 11:38Speaker 3: all that. And they opened up at two and a half.
- 11:40Speaker 3: I'm thinking, wow, two, two, two, two and a half.
- 11:42Speaker 3: That's a little bit too small for me. But now
- 11:44Speaker 3: it's three and a half, four out there. I would think,
- 11:47Speaker 3: I don't see it going to five. So I would
- 11:49Speaker 3: still think there's value if you like UVA at four.
- 11:52Speaker 3: But if you like NC State, maybe see how high
- 11:55Speaker 3: it does go and get the best points.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Hey, we got two newbies on the block at 4.30
- 12:00Speaker 1: and 5.30. North Dakota State preview or, you know, initial
- 12:04Speaker 1: game in Division I at home against Jacksonville State.
- 12:07Speaker 2: They're sitting around minus seven.
- 12:08Speaker 1: And then Sacramento State, man, I'll tell you what, this
- 12:11Speaker 1: is an interesting story. They're a 10-point dog on what
- 12:13Speaker 1: I'm looking at, 53.5 on the total on that game, 46.5
- 12:16Speaker 1: on the other. The money that Sacramento State has put
- 12:20Speaker 1: into their program, just reading articles over the years, I mean,
- 12:22Speaker 1: they've invested a lot of cash into this. Somebody is
- 12:25Speaker 1: financing Sacramento State. They got a lot of money out there.
- 12:28Speaker 1: So you got two newbies on the block Saturday.
- 12:30Speaker 3: I mean, North Dakota State, I think we all know
- 12:33Speaker 3: who North Dakota State, if you watch D2, they have
- 12:35Speaker 3: the greatest yellow helmets. I think we all know who
- 12:38Speaker 3: they are. So I don't want to say newbie. They're
- 12:41Speaker 3: new to this conference.
- 12:43Speaker 2: D1, how about that?
- 12:44Speaker 3: D1, they're new to D1. But I think people don't
- 12:47Speaker 3: know about the Cal State Sacramento conference. programs and how
- 12:51Speaker 3: much you said, how much money they're putting in there.
- 12:53Speaker 3: So I would highly invest on reading what you can
- 12:56Speaker 3: about them. It's a very interesting story. Like North Dakota state,
- 12:59Speaker 3: even though it's seven, seven and a half, wait, some
- 13:02Speaker 3: money has been coming down on Jacksonville state. So if
- 13:04Speaker 3: you can get a better number, which I do believe,
- 13:08Speaker 3: I think you can probably get a six and a
- 13:09Speaker 3: half on this game.
- 13:10Speaker 1: This is with Raphael Esparza, of course, talking to sports betting.
- 13:13Speaker 1: We got several games coming up here on Saturday for
- 13:16Speaker 1: week zero. Hawaii travels to Stanford, Stanford minus three and
- 13:19Speaker 1: a half. That totals at 49. I did see where Hawaii,
- 13:22Speaker 1: the biggest news for me on Hawaii is they've actually
- 13:24Speaker 1: got the Jersey patch.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Hawaii airlines is sponsored. How about that?
- 13:29Speaker 3: And you know what? I love rooting for Hawaii because
- 13:31Speaker 3: their head coach was a huge fan. I mean, I
- 13:34Speaker 3: remember sitting in this working behind the counters and watching
- 13:37Speaker 3: Timmy changes, fling the ball all over the place. I'm
- 13:40Speaker 3: a big fan of them. And I like who, who
- 13:42Speaker 3: they have at quarterback. And I think they're going to
- 13:44Speaker 3: put some points on the board, but, Man, Stanford, I
- 13:48Speaker 3: think they're going to be really improved this year. I mean,
- 13:50Speaker 3: I think, what's the quarterback? Shit, I can't remember the
- 13:52Speaker 3: quarterbacks from Indianapolis Colts. Oh, Andrew Luck, now that he's
- 13:57Speaker 3: there and kind of running the ship, I think they're
- 13:59Speaker 3: going to have some new faces. Man, I really want
- 14:02Speaker 3: to say take Hawaii, but I think this one goes
- 14:04Speaker 3: all the way up to four and a half and five.
- 14:06Speaker 3: So if you can get Hawaii at plus five, I
- 14:08Speaker 3: think it's going to be a lot closer when Shackley
- 14:09Speaker 3: puts a field goal type of game, but I do
- 14:11Speaker 3: believe we see points in this game.
- 14:13Speaker 1: And, of course, Florida State is playing Saturday against New
- 14:16Speaker 1: Mexico State, and they're a 31-point favorite. I think what
- 14:19Speaker 1: you look for in something like this is just to
- 14:21Speaker 1: see kind of how sharp Mike Norvell's team is because,
- 14:24Speaker 1: you know, Alabama's on the horizon coming up here in
- 14:26Speaker 1: a few weeks.
- 14:27Speaker 2: They've got some big ballgames coming up.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm really interested in this one because I think
- 14:32Speaker 3: I forgot to email you this. I put out first
- 14:33Speaker 3: head coach fired in college football, and you know who
- 14:37Speaker 3: I had to put number one, Mike Novel, at 3-1.
- 14:40Speaker 3: But I really like Mike Loxley. I think I butchered
- 14:43Speaker 3: his last name from Maryland. I think he might be
- 14:45Speaker 3: the first one to go at 4-1. But I'm really
- 14:50Speaker 3: going to be intrigued on watching Florida State because they're
- 14:53Speaker 3: going to win this game, but how they win I
- 14:55Speaker 3: think might tell us the story of what Florida State's
- 14:58Speaker 3: season is going to be.
- 15:00Speaker 1: And, of course, if you're going to stay up late,
- 15:01Speaker 1: which I'm very intrigued by, UNLV and Memphis, Dan Mullen,
- 15:07Speaker 1: you know, he's a coach that's going to be on
- 15:09Speaker 1: everybody's radar, at least, you know, when you're talking about
- 15:12Speaker 1: guys that could come back into the Power Four.
- 15:14Speaker 2: You've got Memphis with a new head football coach. That
- 15:15Speaker 2: should be a good ballgame.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree. And I'm a little bit shocked at
- 15:18Speaker 3: this total drop. Opened up at 58 and a half.
- 15:21Speaker 3: Now it's 56 and a half because both teams love
- 15:23Speaker 3: to run the ball. Both teams love to score. Both
- 15:25Speaker 3: teams scored a lot last year. And I don't think
- 15:27Speaker 3: we're going to see anything different this year. But yeah,
- 15:30Speaker 3: take a nap. I know it's going to be, what,
- 15:33Speaker 3: 10 o'clock Eastern Standard Time on this one. This might
- 15:35Speaker 3: be the best game on the board. on Saturday just
- 15:39Speaker 3: because the styles are both of them fit well. Both
- 15:43Speaker 3: of them want to run. Both of them are going
- 15:44Speaker 3: to want to score points. It's going to be very
- 15:46Speaker 3: interesting what happens at the Death Star in Vegas late Saturday.
- 15:49Speaker 2: All right, let's pivot. NFL preseason. Do you even play?
- 15:54Speaker 1: I mean, I know people do and will play this
- 15:56Speaker 1: week coming up. I mean, this is what I call
- 15:58Speaker 1: cut week coming up for the NFL teams. You've got
- 16:00Speaker 1: a lot of starters that are going to sit. They're
- 16:02Speaker 1: getting ready for week one. What do you advise for
- 16:05Speaker 1: people that maybe want to dabble in preseason this coming
- 16:08Speaker 1: week at the dog.
- 16:10Speaker 3: The dogs have been dominating uh weeks one and weeks
- 16:13Speaker 3: two i don't have the stats in front of me
- 16:15Speaker 3: i should have pulled that up but yeah the dogs
- 16:17Speaker 3: have been dominating uh the unders have been cashing pretty
- 16:20Speaker 3: good as well but now the unders are pretty much
- 16:22Speaker 3: inflated because we all know not that many starters are
- 16:25Speaker 3: going to play uh this week some some totals opened
- 16:29Speaker 3: up at 38 now it's 34 so that just tells
- 16:32Speaker 3: you right there that who's playing and who's not playing
- 16:34Speaker 3: but if you're going to invest there's some good dogs
- 16:36Speaker 3: that's out there i kind of like san francisco at
- 16:39Speaker 3: plus three and a half against the raiders on the
- 16:41Speaker 3: road there's uh another one Minnesota at Denver even though
- 16:45Speaker 3: I know Denver if you're going to play Denver or
- 16:48Speaker 3: always play the Broncos first half in preseason they dominate
- 16:52Speaker 3: first halves all the time to be gonna play that
- 16:54Speaker 3: one but I'd say play the dog for the whole
- 16:56Speaker 3: game but it's just dogs are passed for me in that.
- 16:59Speaker 1: One I saw something today I want to get your
- 17:01Speaker 1: thoughts on this it was a it was a dead
- 17:03Speaker 1: money chart the Dolphins have 153, I believe it was
- 17:08Speaker 1: $ 153 million in dead money, dead cap money, which obviously
- 17:11Speaker 1: if you're listening and watching that's money against what you're
- 17:13Speaker 1: paying players that are no longer there, like to a
- 17:15Speaker 1: tongue of a.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Tyree kill Jalen Waddle.
- 17:17Speaker 1: So many guys, the next closest was Cleveland and like,
- 17:22Speaker 1: Maybe the Dolphins were more than that, but it was
- 17:23Speaker 1: like a $ 40 million or $ 50 million difference. Miami is
- 17:26Speaker 1: bleeding money right now.
- 17:28Speaker 3: I think they're paying Bobby Bonilla. That's how bad they
- 17:32Speaker 3: are paying money. I saw that stat, too, and it
- 17:34Speaker 3: just amazed me. Find the article and just look at
- 17:37Speaker 3: the people that they're still playing in Miami. I don't
- 17:40Speaker 3: know what's going on in Miami. I mean, even if
- 17:42Speaker 3: they're just playing for next year's draft pick, they're still
- 17:45Speaker 3: not going to be good next year. Their total season
- 17:47Speaker 3: win next year might be the same, four and a half,
- 17:49Speaker 3: no matter who they draft. Or I should say three
- 17:51Speaker 3: and a half. Now, most sportsbooks moved it to three
- 17:53Speaker 3: and a half already because I can't find a fourth
- 17:55Speaker 3: win when I look at this Miami Dolphins schedule. So
- 17:59Speaker 3: it's going to be a very, very long season and
- 18:01Speaker 3: a long, I say five years. I think they're way
- 18:03Speaker 3: behind everyone else.
- 18:06Speaker 2: No, I agree with you 100%.
- 18:07Speaker 1: A couple more minutes here with Rafael Esparza, and of
- 18:09Speaker 1: course he'll tell you where you can follow him.
- 18:11Speaker 2: I'm going to give you my lock of the week. Well,
- 18:12Speaker 2: let me go ahead and give you my lock of
- 18:13Speaker 2: the week. Even though the.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Number is climbing on TCU and UNC, I say get
- 18:19Speaker 1: it whenever you can get it.
- 18:21Speaker 2: I think TCU blows North Carolina out this weekend.
- 18:24Speaker 3: If you're going to, I've been telling people, if you're
- 18:26Speaker 3: going to bet TCU and let's say your sports book
- 18:28Speaker 3: has nine and a half right now, then they take
- 18:30Speaker 3: the first half. I mean, if TCU is going to
- 18:32Speaker 3: either score quickly and start running the route early, but
- 18:35Speaker 3: they're not going to run away in the fourth quarter.
- 18:37Speaker 3: It's not like TCU is going to outscore them 21
- 18:38Speaker 3: or nothing. And they would cover on the fourth quarter.
- 18:41Speaker 3: If it's going to be a route, it's going to
- 18:43Speaker 3: be a route from the beginning. So I would say
- 18:46Speaker 3: if you missed the fantastic numbers, which you've had open
- 18:49Speaker 3: up at six, nine and a half. Now I say,
- 18:51Speaker 3: just probably take a shot at the first half.
- 18:53Speaker 1: And are you of the opinion of some, and we'll
- 18:55Speaker 1: say that this quarterback group in college this year, from the,
- 19:00Speaker 1: I saw a slogan the other day, March to Arch,
- 19:02Speaker 1: you know, who's going to get Arch Manning number one.
- 19:04Speaker 2: You look at, you look at the quarterback at Miami,
- 19:07Speaker 2: Darian Mensah.
- 19:07Speaker 1: You look at Oregon, you look at Ole Miss, that
- 19:10Speaker 1: this quarterback group could be the best we've seen.
- 19:12Speaker 2: And maybe since 2019.
- 19:15Speaker 3: It's hard for me to see best of what we've
- 19:16Speaker 3: seen until I seen him playing the NFL. So it's
- 19:20Speaker 3: really hard for him, but there's some big names. I
- 19:22Speaker 3: would say last name-wise, this is probably the best NFL-ready
- 19:29Speaker 3: quarterback I've seen in a very, very long time because
- 19:32Speaker 3: some of these last names could be last names we
- 19:34Speaker 3: could be hearing slinging the ball in the NFL for
- 19:36Speaker 3: a while.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Yeah, and you need to send me that list of
- 19:38Speaker 1: the coaches' hot seat. Let's talk a little bit about
- 19:40Speaker 1: that before I let you go. So you got Mike Norvell,
- 19:42Speaker 1: number one.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Oh yeah there's no if answers i have him uh
- 19:47Speaker 3: the guy from maryland locksley number two i have dave
- 19:50Speaker 3: ariana from baylor number three at five to one bill
- 19:53Speaker 3: belichick 701 uh for north carolina and then luke finkel
- 19:57Speaker 3: from wisconsin uh is also eight to one anyway it
- 20:00Speaker 3: was everyone else is 10 i'll send you the list
- 20:02Speaker 3: 10 40 to 1 of course i have Matt Rule
- 20:04Speaker 3: from Nebraska, 50-1. Yeah, we may.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Have to talk about that on our hit tomorrow on
- 20:07Speaker 1: the afternoon show. Where do you have for Mississippi State fans?
- 20:10Speaker 1: Jeff Levy, is he on that list?
- 20:12Speaker 3: Yes, I was hoping you wouldn't do that because I
- 20:13Speaker 3: know Mississippi State watches. He's 20-1 right now, but I
- 20:17Speaker 3: think he's safe all through the whole season. There's other
- 20:20Speaker 3: quarterbacks or other head coaches I think are going to
- 20:22Speaker 3: be in deep waters than him.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Very nice.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Hey, before we let you go, and I appreciate you
- 20:27Speaker 1: joining us, tell everybody where to get your content.
- 20:29Speaker 3: Yeah, you can find me on x at bsi.sports. You
- 20:32Speaker 3: can find me on Instagram at Rafael Esparza.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Appreciate you, brother. We'll talk to you tomorrow.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Take it easy. Have a good one.
- 20:37Speaker 2: All right, thanks.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Rafael Esparza, make sure to grab his content and get
- 20:42Speaker 1: in today.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Also, play at MyBookie. Go to mybookie.ag. Use the promo
- 20:46Speaker 2: code patio. Patio, take TCU.
- 20:50Speaker 1: TCU, I don't care what this line drives to. TCU
- 20:53Speaker 1: is going to curb stomp. And I mean curb stomp.
- 20:56Speaker 2: It's going to be bad.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels this weekend
- 21:00Speaker 1: in Dublin, Ireland. It's not going to be pretty. So
- 21:03Speaker 1: go ahead and get rich. Use the promo code patio
- 21:06Speaker 1: and get in today. We'll have Brad Logan coming up
- 21:08Speaker 1: here in about, oh, let's see, seven minutes, seven minutes.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Let me see.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Let me make sure I get this screen right and
- 21:17Speaker 1: what we're doing here.
- 21:19Speaker 2: And I am trying to do this right here. I
- 21:21Speaker 2: don't know what this thing is doing. Let's go back
- 21:23Speaker 2: over this way. And I don't know why. who wants
- 21:27Speaker 2: to do this. Let's see. Let me remove that screen.
- 21:30Speaker 2: There we go. All right, let's get back into some
- 21:31Speaker 2: high school football. If you've got questions, put them in
- 21:33Speaker 2: the chat.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Mika was asking about Levy or Jeff Levy, as far
- 21:36Speaker 1: as Robbie Lasparza said, 20 to one odds that he'll
- 21:38Speaker 1: be gone next year. And look, I am pulling for
- 21:42Speaker 1: Jeff Levy. I am pulling for Mississippi state. I went
- 21:45Speaker 1: to Mississippi state.
- 21:46Speaker 2: I am a fan.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Now I'm a fan of all of college football, but
- 21:49Speaker 1: I'm pulling for Jeff Levy. I'm pulling for Camario Taylor.
- 21:53Speaker 1: I'm pulling for the new, bring back the block MSU.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I love the fact that they brought the block MSU back.
- 21:59Speaker 1: So I am pulling for Mississippi State as they get
- 22:05Speaker 1: ready to take on Louisiana Monroe coming up here in
- 22:09Speaker 1: just a couple weeks. All right, let's jump back into
- 22:10Speaker 1: some high school football for the weekend. We talked a
- 22:12Speaker 1: little bit about Tupelo Brandon on Friday night. That's going
- 22:15Speaker 1: to be a good one in North Mississippi. You got
- 22:17Speaker 1: to give the edge to Tupelo right now, but just
- 22:19Speaker 1: because of the pedigree, they've been able to handle the
- 22:21Speaker 1: dogs the last two times. It will be interesting to
- 22:23Speaker 1: see what Brandon does on a new offensive coordinator, Justin Hunter,
- 22:27Speaker 1: also a new defensive coordinator as well. This team's got
- 22:31Speaker 1: a lot of talent. Tupelo's got a lot of talent.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I think it's a four-quarter ballgame. You got Oak Grove
- 22:36Speaker 1: hosting Starville coming up this weekend. And, boy, let's talk
- 22:39Speaker 1: about some players. There's a lot of good dudes on
- 22:40Speaker 1: that field that will be on that field down in
- 22:42Speaker 1: the Pine Belt. Brandon Shields picks Oak Grove to win 35-28.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Goldport at Picayune coming up this weekend. And don't forget
- 22:48Speaker 1: about a Thursday night ballgame coming up tomorrow night. Pearl,
- 22:52Speaker 1: the Pirates, shout out. Two, Patrick Schooler, friend of mine and,
- 22:55Speaker 1: of course, friend of the program. They take on Madison Central.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Another friend of mine, Toby Collins, taking on each other
- 23:01Speaker 1: tomorrow night. Thursday night football, high school football, Madison Central
- 23:04Speaker 1: takes on Pearl over in Pearl. So that'll be a
- 23:08Speaker 1: good one as well. I would have to give the
- 23:09Speaker 1: edge slightly to Madison Central. You got Louisville taking on
- 23:14Speaker 1: West Point, the classic Golden Triangle matchup. Louisville picked to
- 23:18Speaker 1: win 17-14 over West Point by Brandon Shields.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Louisville should.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Be the favorite, and they are the favorite. In 4A,
- 23:25Speaker 1: you've got West Point's one of the favorites. In 5A,
- 23:29Speaker 1: this should be a really, really good matchup. Petal takes
- 23:31Speaker 1: on Hattiesburg, Battle of the Pine Belt. You've got Hattiesburg,
- 23:34Speaker 1: who played for the state championship against Warren Central last year.
- 23:37Speaker 1: In 6A, you've got Petal that's going to be a
- 23:40Speaker 1: competitor there in Region 3. 7A under Marcus Bowles. Brandon
- 23:43Speaker 1: Shields has Hattiesburg picked to win 31-21. Also, some other
- 23:50Speaker 1: matchups here. We'll have Brad Logan here in about five minutes.
- 23:53Speaker 1: West Jones at Laurel, and this is always a big
- 23:56Speaker 1: one in that part of the world. West Jones ranked
- 23:58Speaker 1: 21st in Mississippi Gridiron. Brandon Shields has West Jones picked
- 24:02Speaker 1: to win 27-17. Noxiby County travels down to Heidelberg.
- 24:06Speaker 2: This is going to be a really good matchup.
- 24:09Speaker 1: You've got two teams that are from two totally different classifications,
- 24:12Speaker 1: 3A Noxiby County, 2A Heidelberg. Both teams have represented their
- 24:16Speaker 1: classifications over the last couple of years. Shields has Heidelberg
- 24:19Speaker 1: winning 26-23. Clarksdale at Cleveland Central in North Mississippi. This, again,
- 24:26Speaker 1: will be another good one of teams out of classifications.
- 24:29Speaker 1: One from 5A, one from 4A.
- 24:31Speaker 2: This should be a good one.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Clarksdale picked to win 30-22. East Webster at Choctaw County.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Choctaw County picked to win 20-16. Hartfield Academy travels down
- 24:41Speaker 1: to Columbia. This is a rematch from last year where
- 24:44Speaker 1: Columbia came to Hartfield.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Hartfield is 1-0.
- 24:46Speaker 1: This will be the Columbia Wildcats' first game Shields has
- 24:50Speaker 1: Columbia picked to win 20-17. So it should be a
- 24:54Speaker 1: great high school football. And there's tons of other games
- 24:56Speaker 1: we'll get to on the afternoon drive as we move
- 24:59Speaker 1: into Friday. Tomorrow's schedule will be on the road at Heinz.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Heinz on the road or at home tomorrow, their home opener.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Kicks at 6.30. They'll be taking on Innuwamba. We'll be
- 25:08Speaker 1: on the air from 3 to 5, and then we'll
- 25:10Speaker 1: have the pregame show on ESPN 105.9 The Zone coming
- 25:14Speaker 1: up at 6 o'clock. Kick starts at 6.30. And then
- 25:17Speaker 1: Friday will show me from 3 to 5 in Tupelo.
- 25:20Speaker 1: We'll be at Tupelo Stadium. I don't even know the
- 25:23Speaker 1: name of that stadium.
- 25:24Speaker 2: I should know that. I apologize. We're going to call
- 25:26Speaker 2: it Tupelo Field, right? Ride the wave. Blue Turf. Did
- 25:30Speaker 2: you hear Matthew McConaughey doing that? Yes.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Yeah. And so we'll be there Friday for that ballgame.
- 25:38Speaker 2: And then, of course, next week we're there the whole
- 25:40Speaker 2: way through.
- 25:41Speaker 3: All right.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Let me get you some more notes here while we
- 25:42Speaker 2: wait on Brad Logan.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Again, the SEC, along with the Big Ten and Notre Dame,
- 25:46Speaker 1: they've said nada to the NFL and the NBA players.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Texas Tech has been looking for an additional quarterback.
- 25:53Speaker 1: They may have found him with Thomas Castellanos, the former
- 25:57Speaker 1: Florida State quarterback, who basically filed a petition against the NCAA,
- 26:02Speaker 1: won the petition. He has committed to Texas Tech. Now,
- 26:06Speaker 1: that doesn't mean that he'll play next week, but Thomas
- 26:09Speaker 1: Castellanos started at Central Florida, went to Boston College, went
- 26:13Speaker 1: over to Florida State, ran out of eligibility. Now he
- 26:17Speaker 1: will play, it looks like, for Texas Tech. Some other
- 26:21Speaker 1: notes here as well. Notre Dame, again, officials have communicated
- 26:25Speaker 1: to both the SEC and the Big Ten that the
- 26:27Speaker 1: school is aligned with the prohibition and signing of players
- 26:32Speaker 1: who have basically taken part or been a part of
- 26:35Speaker 1: professional teams. They're not going to bring those players in
- 26:38Speaker 1: as well. Again, Hawaii has a uniform patch. It's the
- 26:43Speaker 1: Hawaiian Airlines. As Hawaii, you know, I'll.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Be interested to see.
- 26:48Speaker 1: I don't know that Ole Miss and Mississippi State have
- 26:49Speaker 1: a uniform patch, but I'm sure that's coming at some
- 26:53Speaker 1: point because there's a lot of money.
- 26:55Speaker 2: To get on those uniform patches. And by the way,
- 26:57Speaker 2: I shared this on X at Jake Wim.
- 27:00Speaker 1: If you guys want to see a sweet, sweet uniform,
- 27:04Speaker 1: Colorado State. Colorado State, let me just show you these uniforms.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I forget I can actually do this. Let me pull
- 27:09Speaker 1: this up real quick. and show you the Aggie uniforms
- 27:14Speaker 1: that Colorado State is putting out, coming up here in
- 27:18Speaker 1: just a few weeks.
- 27:19Speaker 2: Let me share this real quick. Put that on the screen.
- 27:21Speaker 1: Check out that sweet uniform right there from Colorado State.
- 27:25Speaker 2: And I'm going to go over here and kind of scroll.
- 27:28Speaker 2: And let's see. There it is. And you look at
- 27:33Speaker 2: this right here.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Colorado A & M, back when they were Colorado A
- 27:36Speaker 1: & M.
- 27:37Speaker 2: And then also, let's see. Did I get all that right?
- 27:41Speaker 2: I believe I did. So what a sweet uniform by
- 27:43Speaker 2: Colorado State as.
- 27:45Speaker 1: This is going to be a uniform worn during the
- 27:48Speaker 1: Ag Day barbecue football game versus Southern Utah. That'll be
- 27:52Speaker 1: on September 12th. That's between Colorado State and Southern Utah.
- 27:59Speaker 1: So that should be a good one. All right, we'll
- 28:01Speaker 1: get Brad Logan in here in a bit. We're going
- 28:02Speaker 1: to get his takes on Ole Miss, on Mississippi State,
- 28:06Speaker 1: and around the SEC as we're just now a little
- 28:08Speaker 1: over a week from kickoff. You've got week zero ballgames. Again,
- 28:11Speaker 1: play all your bets at MyBookie. Go to MyBookie.ag. Get
- 28:14Speaker 1: in and play today. Use the promo code PATTIO. You'll
- 28:17Speaker 1: get a cashback bonus. TCU is the lock of the week.
- 28:20Speaker 1: TCU versus North Carolina in Dublin.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Take TCU.
- 28:26Speaker 1: And we will have WIMS winners back next week. We'll
- 28:28Speaker 1: have seven plays. Typically, we'll go seven plays in college,
- 28:33Speaker 1: three plays in the National Football League, Next week will
- 28:35Speaker 1: be all– well, no, we'll have NFL games as well.
- 28:38Speaker 1: So we'll have the normal slate, 10 picks, all winners.
- 28:41Speaker 1: You can take them to the bank. Speaking of taking
- 28:43Speaker 1: to the bank, we're going to add in Brad Logan
- 28:45Speaker 1: to the conversation. You can take anything he says to
- 28:47Speaker 1: the bank. Brad, thank you so much for joining us.
- 28:50Speaker 1: He's trying to get his stuff ready here, and we'll
- 28:52Speaker 1: let him jump in here in just a bit and
- 28:54Speaker 1: get his takes on everything in college football here in
- 28:59Speaker 1: just a bit. Let me go ahead and prompt him
- 29:01Speaker 1: on the show. Having a little audio issue there. And, Brad,
- 29:07Speaker 1: I'm going to let you try to fix that real quick.
- 29:10Speaker 2: And we'll get him in here in just a bit.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I want to remind you also, make sure to follow
- 29:14Speaker 2: the show on X at Jake Wim. I think I
- 29:18Speaker 2: hear you now. Can you hear me?
- 29:18Speaker 4: Yep, we got you.
- 29:19Speaker 2: All right, we got Brad.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Logan in with us. And, of course, Brad, tell everybody
- 29:23Speaker 1: where they can find you. I know you're all over
- 29:25Speaker 1: the place. You guys are punching out a lot of
- 29:27Speaker 1: great content.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Yeah, we're at the Talk of Champions on our YouTube page.
- 29:32Speaker 4: obviously on socials at BradLoganTOC, and pretty much there at
- 29:36Speaker 4: the Talk of Champions and the Ole Miss Spirit. That's
- 29:38Speaker 4: an affiliate. of On3 at OleMissSpirit.com. But, yeah, man, thanks
- 29:42Speaker 4: for having me on. I had a little technical difficulty there.
- 29:44Speaker 4: We're good to go.
- 29:45Speaker 2: No, it happens. All right, Brad, let's jump right to it.
- 29:49Speaker 1: SEC, Big Ten, Notre Dame have said nada to NFL
- 29:52Speaker 1: players coming back to college. You know, I don't know
- 29:56Speaker 1: how that affects maybe the– the Louisiana lawsuit or the
- 29:59Speaker 1: North Carolina lawsuit, but LSU abstained from the vote today.
- 30:04Speaker 2: They're going to die on this Hill, man. What an
- 30:05Speaker 2: interesting time.
- 30:06Speaker 4: In football right now.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:08Speaker 4: You know, it's funny, Jay. I actually have a little different,
- 30:11Speaker 4: a little different perspective. The one thing that you and
- 30:14Speaker 4: I and Lane Kiff, you know, we all have in common.
- 30:17Speaker 4: We all want to win.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Yes.
- 30:20Speaker 4: And that's exactly what Lane's doing. People are saying there
- 30:22Speaker 4: that he's making it about him and, all the different excuses.
- 30:26Speaker 4: What Lane's trying to do is put the best roster
- 30:28Speaker 4: together to win football games. He's not there to build
- 30:31Speaker 4: camaraderie in a locker room. He's not there to build
- 30:34Speaker 4: players' character and get them ready for the National Football League.
- 30:38Speaker 4: He's actually trying to pull them away from the National
- 30:40Speaker 4: Football League. But what Lane's trying to do, he's trying
- 30:42Speaker 4: to win. And I halfway respect that. Now, he's going
- 30:46Speaker 4: above and beyond. And it's funny how We talk about
- 30:49Speaker 4: all of these things that are changing in college football.
- 30:51Speaker 4: They all kind of are changing because of Lane, because
- 30:54Speaker 4: he's trying to circumvent and find loopholes here. And so
- 30:58Speaker 4: I'm halfway respecting what he's doing. But obviously we've seen
- 31:02Speaker 4: the SEC, and we've also seen the Big Ten, now
- 31:05Speaker 4: the ACC, the Big 12. They're all saying, yeah, we're done.
- 31:09Speaker 4: We're not interested in any of that. So I expect
- 31:12Speaker 4: all of that to kind of be null and void.
- 31:14Speaker 4: One interesting thing for me, Jay, because Ben and I
- 31:16Speaker 4: were talking about this today, I'm a little surprised that
- 31:19Speaker 4: the SEC has kind of fallen in lockstep with the
- 31:22Speaker 4: Big Ten as much as they have. You know, in
- 31:24Speaker 4: years past, it's always been the SEC and Commissioner Sankey. Now,
- 31:27Speaker 4: don't get me wrong. I think what they did today
- 31:29Speaker 4: was right. I think the penalties that would be levied down,
- 31:34Speaker 4: I think, are important. They're big. I get it. But
- 31:37Speaker 4: it feels like they're kind of in lockstep with the
- 31:39Speaker 4: Big Ten. I don't know that I ever thought I
- 31:41Speaker 4: would ever say that. So I think that Greg Sankey
- 31:44Speaker 4: had one decision to make, whether he wanted to or not.
- 31:46Speaker 4: The president's voted today. And we did say that Pete
- 31:49Speaker 4: Thamel of ESPN said that it was 16-0, and then, oh,
- 31:53Speaker 4: we've got to change. It's 15-0 with one abstaining. We
- 31:57Speaker 4: know who that was.
- 31:58Speaker 2: We definitely do. All right, let's get your take.
- 32:00Speaker 1: I know we've talked State and Ole Miss, but go
- 32:02Speaker 1: around the SEC a little bit while I got you here.
- 32:04Speaker 1: We can go a little longer than a traditional radio
- 32:06Speaker 1: show on terrestrial radio.
- 32:08Speaker 2: So, Mississippi State, let's.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Go there first.
- 32:10Speaker 1: I do love the fact they brought the block MSU back.
- 32:13Speaker 1: I thought that was very, very– I said it on X.
- 32:16Speaker 1: I said the adults are back in charge. I'm happy
- 32:18Speaker 1: for Mississippi State with that. Now, on the field, if
- 32:22Speaker 1: Brad Logan and Jake Wimbley are sitting here on the
- 32:24Speaker 1: 26th day of August 2027, is Jeff Levy still the
- 32:28Speaker 1: head coach.
- 32:29Speaker 2: At Mississippi State?
- 32:30Speaker 4: I think he is. I think there's a good chance
- 32:32Speaker 4: that Mississippi State goes bowling this year. I like the
- 32:34Speaker 4: schedule a lot. The deal with me, Jake, is I
- 32:37Speaker 4: think Mississippi State needs to beat Minnesota.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Minnesota.
- 32:40Speaker 4: I think if Mississippi State beats Minnesota, there's absolutely a
- 32:42Speaker 4: path to six. I've looked at the schedule and kind
- 32:45Speaker 4: of looked at it pretty hard. I like Kamario Taylor
- 32:47Speaker 4: a lot. I had a chance to visit with him
- 32:49Speaker 4: at SEC Media Day. Kelly Jones, I think he's a really,
- 32:53Speaker 4: really good player. We saw Isaac Smith and Chris Lowe
- 32:55Speaker 4: today online. So I think there's some really good pieces there.
- 32:58Speaker 4: I could make an argument that Mississippi State should have
- 33:02Speaker 4: been eight and four last year because I think they
- 33:06Speaker 4: easily should have beaten Texas. I mean, when you're up
- 33:08Speaker 4: 17 with three minutes to go, There's no way that
- 33:11Speaker 4: you should lose that game. I think– now, what's the
- 33:15Speaker 4: kicker's name? The left-footed kicker?
- 33:18Speaker 2: Oh, you caught me slipping there.
- 33:20Speaker 4: Anyway, I'm looking at him right now. I know he's
- 33:23Speaker 4: been kind of hit or miss, no pun intended. But
- 33:27Speaker 4: there's no way in the world that you don't drive
- 33:28Speaker 4: it down to about the 25 against Florida and get
- 33:31Speaker 4: Will Ferry, Kyle Ferry.
- 33:32Speaker 3: Yep.
- 33:35Speaker 4: There's no world that exists at home where you don't
- 33:37Speaker 4: drive it down to about the 25, kick the game,
- 33:39Speaker 4: win a field goal, and win. And then Tennessee, I think,
- 33:41Speaker 4: was a very winnable game for Mississippi State. So, yeah,
- 33:46Speaker 4: that's 8-4 right there. And, you know, who knows with
- 33:49Speaker 4: the Egg Bowl. And, you know, Ole Miss– Mississippi State
- 33:52Speaker 4: always plays Alabama, you know, pretty good. I just really
- 33:56Speaker 4: believe that if Jeff can get to 6-6, he can
- 33:59Speaker 4: kind of get over the hump. But what he's got
- 34:01Speaker 4: to do, he's got to get out of his own way.
- 34:05Speaker 4: And I think by having some experience on the staff,
- 34:08Speaker 4: mainly Will Arnett, and then the former head coach is
- 34:11Speaker 4: kind of in an analyst role. I think he was
- 34:13Speaker 4: at New Mexico State or wherever he was at. I
- 34:16Speaker 4: think if he'll just lean into them, I think he
- 34:18Speaker 4: calls a really good game. I really do. And I
- 34:20Speaker 4: don't think we really can put into words just how
- 34:23Speaker 4: bad Cameron Hussler was last year.
- 34:26Speaker 3: No, I agree.
- 34:26Speaker 4: I mean, he was awful. With the amount of talent
- 34:29Speaker 4: that they had, the defense was putrid. Now with Zach
- 34:33Speaker 4: Arnett coming back, I mean, You essentially have an additional
- 34:36Speaker 4: head coach. You have an incredibly more talented defensive coordinator.
- 34:41Speaker 4: The talent is better. I like Fluff a lot at
- 34:44Speaker 4: running back. He's a running back that nobody's talking about.
- 34:47Speaker 4: He ran all over Texas until the end of the game.
- 34:51Speaker 4: So I think it was Texas, maybe Florida. It was
- 34:53Speaker 4: a big SEC game that I watched. They couldn't tackle him.
- 34:56Speaker 4: And so I like the pieces. I think 6-6, get
- 35:00Speaker 4: to a bowl game, get to Music City, I think
- 35:02Speaker 4: he's got Mississippi State off and running.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Business with Brad Logan, talking SEC football on a Wednesday.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Make sure to give him a follow on X. And,
- 35:09Speaker 1: of course, check out he and Ben Garrett's show, Talk
- 35:11Speaker 1: of Champions podcast, talking Ole Miss football and the SEC.
- 35:14Speaker 2: All right, so Ole Miss. I had Ole Miss.
- 35:17Speaker 1: At 8-4 in my predictions with a chance to go
- 35:20Speaker 1: to 9-3. The more reports– now, you're way closer to
- 35:23Speaker 1: the program than I am.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Defense, defense, defense.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Looks like it may be close to 2024. What's the
- 35:30Speaker 1: skinny on the– because here's the deal. We know Trinidad
- 35:32Speaker 1: Chambliss can play. We know K'Wan Lacy can play. They're
- 35:34Speaker 1: going to be able to run.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Even though with a different offensive coordinator, I think this
- 35:37Speaker 2: offense is going to hum.
- 35:39Speaker 1: If this defense is what a lot of people I'm
- 35:42Speaker 1: hearing talking to guys we have on our show is
- 35:44Speaker 1: or could be, man, Ole Miss could be really good again.
- 35:48Speaker 4: I think Ole Miss is going to be on the
- 35:50Speaker 4: field more talented than last year. The bad part about that, Jake,
- 35:53Speaker 4: is the schedule is a gauntlet. I've got Ole Miss
- 35:57Speaker 4: at 9-3 with a combination of some way putting losses
- 36:00Speaker 4: from LSU, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, and I'm throwing Auburn in there,
- 36:07Speaker 4: and then Texas. I think they can somehow get nine
- 36:10Speaker 4: wins out of all that. You throw in Mississippi State, Vanderbilt,
- 36:14Speaker 4: the Louisville game, which is not a cakewalk by any stretch,
- 36:17Speaker 4: and then you've got the Charlotte game, the cakewalk. So,
- 36:21Speaker 4: I mean– If anybody says 10-2 and 11-1, I'm like,
- 36:24Speaker 4: I just don't know if I can see it right now.
- 36:28Speaker 4: And that's saying how talented the offense and the defense is.
- 36:31Speaker 4: I think the defense is going to be better than
- 36:33Speaker 4: the 24 defense because of how they stack the defense
- 36:36Speaker 4: in the back half of the secondary. The linebackers, there's
- 36:40Speaker 4: not the depth that linebacker, I think, that Ole Miss
- 36:42Speaker 4: really needs. But when you talk about Luke Farrelly and
- 36:45Speaker 4: Keaton Thomas, two green dots, two guys that are coming
- 36:48Speaker 4: to all conference, they're very good. The defensive line's really good.
- 36:51Speaker 4: They've got some depth at defensive line. They went to
- 36:53Speaker 4: the portal hard there. Not a ton there at linebacker
- 36:56Speaker 4: once in. They've got Tony Mitchell from Mississippi State to
- 36:58Speaker 4: transfer it in. Jarcobe Hobson, the true sophomore, I believe,
- 37:03Speaker 4: out of Lake Comer in high school. But Tajay Butler,
- 37:05Speaker 4: the transfer out of Georgia Tech, he's going to be
- 37:07Speaker 4: a big component. Ant Davis, believe it or not, the freshman,
- 37:11Speaker 4: has had some spurts. So the defense, yeah, I think
- 37:15Speaker 4: the defense is going to be really good. The problem
- 37:16Speaker 4: is the schedule. Offensively? I mean, not, not a lot of,
- 37:20Speaker 4: not a lot of spots to where you just kind
- 37:22Speaker 4: of scratch your head. I think they have a really
- 37:24Speaker 4: good running back core led by Q1 Lacey. Obviously you
- 37:27Speaker 4: want to keep Trinidad Chandler's upright as much as possible.
- 37:30Speaker 4: So they've got the bookend tackles that they've got. They're
- 37:33Speaker 4: working through, they've got Therese Davis at left tackle who's
- 37:36Speaker 4: earned that spot. And then on the right tackle spot,
- 37:38Speaker 4: they wanted Karius Kern, the transfer from LSU really just
- 37:41Speaker 4: hadn't worked out from a talent standpoint and kind of
- 37:43Speaker 4: off the field stuff. So, Right now, they're really hoping
- 37:47Speaker 4: that it's Enoch Wangoy, who's kind of been banged up,
- 37:49Speaker 4: but I think Tommy Kintzler, the transfer out of Miami. Really,
- 37:53Speaker 4: if that doesn't work, then you start talking about, okay,
- 37:55Speaker 4: Connor Howes could possibly come in. Maybe John David Oliver
- 37:59Speaker 4: could play right guard. Patrick Kudus could bump to tackle.
- 38:03Speaker 4: You really don't want to have to do that, but
- 38:05Speaker 4: there are options that Pete Golding told us both in
- 38:07Speaker 4: the spring and Monday that every option is on the
- 38:10Speaker 4: table in the offensive line. The good news for Ole
- 38:12Speaker 4: Miss is John Garrison does not rotate offensive linemen at all.
- 38:15Speaker 4: I mean, he likes to stick with his five and
- 38:17Speaker 4: have maybe one that rolls in and out. But not
- 38:20Speaker 4: a ton of depth there, but the first five should
- 38:22Speaker 4: be pretty good.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Talking SEC football, Brad Logan, if you just join us,
- 38:25Speaker 1: you can pop a comment in the chat if you
- 38:28Speaker 1: want to on Facebook. And, of course, we've got the
- 38:30Speaker 1: chat open here if you've got questions on SEC football.
- 38:32Speaker 2: All right. Alabama, man, they could not run the ball
- 38:36Speaker 2: last year.
- 38:37Speaker 1: It was really hard to watch because, you know, Alabama,
- 38:39Speaker 1: you and I and everybody that's our age and The
- 38:42Speaker 1: last 20 years, Alabama, and even further than 20 years,
- 38:44Speaker 1: they've been able to run the football. They could not
- 38:46Speaker 1: generate a run game last year. Now, Keylon Russell is
- 38:48Speaker 1: going to be the quarterback. We know he's a very
- 38:50Speaker 1: talented five-star guy. They're going to be able to throw
- 38:53Speaker 1: the ball. Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb, they've put big,
- 38:56Speaker 1: dynamic passing games out there. I don't think that's the problem.
- 39:00Speaker 1: The problem is going to be, or the potential problem,
- 39:02Speaker 1: is a running game, defense. Where do you kind of
- 39:05Speaker 1: have Alabama pegged this year in this pecking order of
- 39:07Speaker 1: the SEC?
- 39:08Speaker 4: Well, I'm going to do a terrible thing and ask
- 39:10Speaker 4: you a question that I don't know the answer to
- 39:12Speaker 4: The running back out of Meridian, Daniel Hill, is he
- 39:14Speaker 4: their number one running back, or is he injured?
- 39:17Speaker 1: No, if he's injured, I have not seen that report,
- 39:20Speaker 1: but he is in that room. They've got a freshman
- 39:22Speaker 1: that they believe in. It's going to be a committee
- 39:24Speaker 1: by committee approach.
- 39:26Speaker 4: Now, did he not have a knee injury maybe a
- 39:29Speaker 4: year or so ago?
- 39:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Yeah, he was banged up.
- 39:32Speaker 4: I know that Ole Miss and State just never could
- 39:35Speaker 4: get any traction there. I mean, he was kind of
- 39:36Speaker 4: all Alabama. You know, I talked with Drew DeArmond. I
- 39:39Speaker 4: know he's a friend of your show. We've been on
- 39:41Speaker 4: his show in Huntsville. He really likes the team. He said,
- 39:45Speaker 4: I don't know why they're really dragging out Keelan Russell.
- 39:47Speaker 4: I mean, he's going to be the starting quarterback. I mean,
- 39:49Speaker 4: I think for Alabama, we need to get back to
- 39:51Speaker 4: that Alabama football of running the ball, playing good defense,
- 39:54Speaker 4: hitting the tight end over the middle, playing that 12 personnel.
- 39:59Speaker 4: And I think we might get there. I think the
- 40:01Speaker 4: good news for this season for Alabama is their schedule, Jake.
- 40:05Speaker 4: It really opens up. It's not as difficult as, say,
- 40:08Speaker 4: a state or an Ole Miss because you get teams
- 40:11Speaker 4: like Kentucky on the schedule. I don't know how good
- 40:13Speaker 4: Will Stein is going to have his Kentucky team, but
- 40:15Speaker 4: you talk about Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Auburn. I'm still not sold
- 40:20Speaker 4: on A & M. They've got South Carolina. They've got
- 40:23Speaker 4: Mississippi State. And then they've got Georgia, who knows about Tennessee,
- 40:27Speaker 4: and LSU. So they've got a lot of the bottom-end
- 40:32Speaker 4: talent on the SEC. So, to me, I'm all about schedules.
- 40:35Speaker 4: Because you look back at 23 and 24 for Ole Miss,
- 40:39Speaker 4: they were pretty good. But that 24 schedule was just
- 40:43Speaker 4: a cakewalk for Ole Miss. And to finish 9-3 is
- 40:46Speaker 4: just such an indictment on Lane Kiffin, losing Kentucky and
- 40:48Speaker 4: losing to Florida. And then, of course, they lost to LSU,
- 40:51Speaker 4: which was a close one. They led all the way
- 40:54Speaker 4: until the end. But to me, for Alabama, their schedule
- 40:57Speaker 4: sets up perfectly. I have Alabama as a playoff team.
- 41:00Speaker 4: I think Alabama's going 10-2 with this schedule. I truly do.
- 41:03Speaker 4: I think Russell is a really good quarterback. I think
- 41:06Speaker 4: they're going to get back to Alabama football. I like
- 41:08Speaker 4: Kane Womack a lot as the team's defensive coordinator. He's
- 41:12Speaker 4: gone on record, talked about how difficult Keelan Russell is
- 41:15Speaker 4: to take to the ground. They return a couple offensive linemen.
- 41:18Speaker 4: I'm very, very bullish on Alabama this year.
- 41:21Speaker 1: You mentioned Auburn as a ball game that I believe
- 41:25Speaker 1: Ole Miss plays.
- 41:26Speaker 2: Auburn, correct?
- 41:27Speaker 4: Yes, they come to Oxford this year.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and they'll come to Starville as well. That could
- 41:32Speaker 1: be a potential L or a tough game. So are
- 41:35Speaker 1: you with me? I think Alex Golish is going to
- 41:36Speaker 1: have– I know Hugh Freeze couldn't do it. I know
- 41:39Speaker 1: Brian Harsin couldn't do it.
- 41:40Speaker 2: Do what?
- 41:40Speaker 1: Let's get Auburn back to playing Auburn football. Are we
- 41:43Speaker 1: in agreement that we think Alex Osh could do it?
- 41:47Speaker 4: I really think he's going to do it. The question is,
- 41:49Speaker 4: is how long is it going to take him? I
- 41:51Speaker 4: don't know if he can do it in year one.
- 41:52Speaker 4: I like his quarterback, Byron Brown, a lot. We saw
- 41:55Speaker 4: him in South Florida. I mean, gosh, Jake, I think
- 41:57Speaker 4: he's bringing over, what, 60 South Florida players? I know
- 42:02Speaker 4: it's not that many, but it feels like it's a lot.
- 42:04Speaker 4: And so my question is, is how would State, Ole Miss,
- 42:08Speaker 4: Alabama– compete against south florida last year um i don't
- 42:13Speaker 4: know i i think i think they would all compete
- 42:15Speaker 4: pretty well this may be a tough year for auburn
- 42:17Speaker 4: i mean we take a look at their schedule they
- 42:19Speaker 4: get georgia lsu ole miss they do get arkansas state
- 42:23Speaker 4: alabama and then uh they open with baylor and then
- 42:26Speaker 4: southern miss and florida and they get vanderbilt and tennessee
- 42:29Speaker 4: and who knows about vanderbilt you know you know blake
- 42:32Speaker 4: i forget the guy's last name but They announced him
- 42:35Speaker 4: as a starter. Jared Curtis is not going to be
- 42:37Speaker 4: the starter, but he's going to play. It feels like
- 42:39Speaker 4: that's Clark Lee just doing Clark Lee things. So I
- 42:43Speaker 4: don't know about Vanderbilt, how they'll be without Pavia. You know,
- 42:45Speaker 4: Auburn last year was 5-7, and Hugh Freeze told Chuck Roundsville,
- 42:48Speaker 4: the Ole Miss spirit, that he said, Chuck, I believe
- 42:52Speaker 4: truly if I had played Deuce Knight more, I might
- 42:54Speaker 4: still be the coach at Auburn. I mean, I'm no
- 42:57Speaker 4: rocket scientist. I know where you graduated from. We both did.
- 43:01Speaker 4: We're not the smartest people in the world, but we
- 43:03Speaker 4: saw that Deuce Knight was a more talented quarterback than,
- 43:08Speaker 4: what's the guy, Peyton Thorne? Yeah, Peyton Thorne. And there's
- 43:11Speaker 4: another guy. I mean, it just didn't get it done.
- 43:13Speaker 4: And so, I think at the end of the day,
- 43:16Speaker 4: Alex Golish, I was told he is a football coach
- 43:20Speaker 4: and I was told by someone else at Auburn that
- 43:23Speaker 4: he is kind of an old-school Pat Dye guy, likes
- 43:26Speaker 4: to run the football, likes to play good defense, very
- 43:28Speaker 4: similar to what I said about Alabama. I think if
- 43:30Speaker 4: Auburn can get back to Auburn football, and I know
- 43:33Speaker 4: that is so cliche, but if they can get back
- 43:35Speaker 4: to winning six, seven games, they've got the total package.
- 43:39Speaker 4: I went down to Auburn for the Ole Miss-Auburn Super
- 43:42Speaker 4: Regional in baseball and had some long conversations with some
- 43:46Speaker 4: folks that I know that are in the athletic department,
- 43:50Speaker 4: let's put it like that. And I said, my gosh,
- 43:53Speaker 4: I toured the stadium, Jordan hair. They've done all these renovations.
- 43:57Speaker 4: It's monstrous. They sell out every game. They've got the Eagle.
- 44:01Speaker 4: They've got the war Eagle him. They've got everything. I
- 44:04Speaker 4: was like, my gosh, what is wrong? He's like, Brad,
- 44:07Speaker 4: we need to win. We've got everything. We have everything.
- 44:12Speaker 4: We just need to win. And so I think they're
- 44:14Speaker 4: going to get behind Alex Golish, um, I don't know
- 44:16Speaker 4: about this year. I don't know about the roster. I
- 44:18Speaker 4: don't know this. They got a running back, Jeremiah Cobb.
- 44:21Speaker 4: It's as good as anybody in the country. He's good.
- 44:24Speaker 4: The question is, will they be able to keep him upright?
- 44:26Speaker 4: And I do believe, and I don't know what kind
- 44:28Speaker 4: of offense. I think it's going to be more of
- 44:31Speaker 4: a spread from what I've seen from Alex Golish. But
- 44:34Speaker 4: if I've got Cobb and Brown in the backfield, I
- 44:36Speaker 4: like my chances.
- 44:37Speaker 3: I really do.
- 44:37Speaker 2: No, there's no doubt. All right. Lane Kiffin at LSU, um,
- 44:41Speaker 2: brings in about 40 players.
- 44:42Speaker 1: He's got a quarterback coming over from Arizona state who
- 44:45Speaker 1: I think is a pretty darn good quarterback. We know
- 44:47Speaker 1: that Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weiss Jr can coach offense.
- 44:50Speaker 1: We saw what he did at Ole Miss and they're
- 44:52Speaker 1: going to be able to score points. Um, what's the
- 44:54Speaker 1: ceiling for LSU this year?
- 44:56Speaker 4: 10 and two playoff and make a run. I think
- 45:01Speaker 4: that's the ceiling. The floor is probably eight and four, uh,
- 45:04Speaker 4: looking at the schedule. Um, you're the perfect person to
- 45:07Speaker 4: talk to about this because you do such a good
- 45:09Speaker 4: job with analytics. But I'm just a huge schedule guy
- 45:13Speaker 4: because I think that just says a lot about a
- 45:15Speaker 4: team because I've looked at their schedule. And if they
- 45:18Speaker 4: can get out of the first five weeks 5-0, they
- 45:22Speaker 4: may run the table because they've got Clemson, La Tech,
- 45:26Speaker 4: Ole Miss, and Texas A & M. And then they're
- 45:28Speaker 4: going to go to McNeese and Kentucky and Mississippi State
- 45:31Speaker 4: and Auburn. So they're probably undefeated until they get to Alabama.
- 45:34Speaker 4: And at that point, They're hosting Alabama and Texas. They're
- 45:37Speaker 4: on the road to Tennessee and Arkansas. I just talked
- 45:39Speaker 4: to everybody watching in here tonight that LSU's going 12-0.
- 45:43Speaker 4: But I also have a scenario of LSU starting 1-2,
- 45:49Speaker 4: maybe 1-3 if A & M comes to Baton Rouge
- 45:52Speaker 4: and beats them. And if LSU is 1-3 with that roster,
- 45:55Speaker 4: then it's going to be a boo-fest. They're not going
- 45:57Speaker 4: to show up. I don't think Clemson's going to beat
- 46:00Speaker 4: them in the first week. But here's the deal with
- 46:02Speaker 4: transfer teams like LSU. With Sam Levitt not having a
- 46:08Speaker 4: snap under his belt inside Tiger Stadium in an LSU uniform,
- 46:12Speaker 4: he's got so many moving parts. With new running backs
- 46:15Speaker 4: with Harlan Berry, Tredez Green, the tight end, I think
- 46:19Speaker 4: is super, super talented. Wide receivers, I think Eugene Wilson,
- 46:24Speaker 4: Jackson Harris is really good, Winnie Watkins. All those are
- 46:28Speaker 4: great players, but they don't have that cohesiveness that they're
- 46:30Speaker 4: going to have in October 17th against Mississippi State or
- 46:34Speaker 4: October 24th at Auburn. So I think that's something I'm
- 46:37Speaker 4: going to be watching. If they can get past the
- 46:40Speaker 4: first five weeks at 4-1 or 5-0, I think there's
- 46:43Speaker 4: a chance they can make a run and maybe do
- 46:46Speaker 4: something crazy in the college football playoff. But I think
- 46:48Speaker 4: it's imperative to beat Ole Miss. I think the LSU game,
- 46:52Speaker 4: the more it goes by, I think it's incredibly important
- 46:55Speaker 4: for Lane Kiffin. Because I think he really needs to
- 46:59Speaker 4: be able to come to LSU, come to Oxford with
- 47:02Speaker 4: LSU and say, see, I told you so. Because if
- 47:06Speaker 4: he doesn't do that, it'll live with him for the
- 47:08Speaker 4: rest of his life. Whereas I think Ole Miss, you
- 47:11Speaker 4: look at their schedule, it is a gauntlet. I could
- 47:13Speaker 4: probably talk everybody into the saying that it's just as
- 47:16Speaker 4: important for Ole Miss. Because I had a conversation with
- 47:20Speaker 4: somebody from Baton Rouge, and they said if Lane will
- 47:22Speaker 4: stay and he doesn't get fired or he doesn't leave,
- 47:26Speaker 4: Within three or four years, he'll have a national championship.
- 47:29Speaker 4: Because if you look at a guy that ate grass
- 47:32Speaker 4: can win one. A guy that you can't really understand
- 47:35Speaker 4: how he talks, he got one. Why can't one of
- 47:38Speaker 4: the best college football coaches in the country, I think
- 47:40Speaker 4: Lane is, win a national championship? Of course he can.
- 47:44Speaker 4: So the question is, and also I was told, if
- 47:47Speaker 4: you're going to get LSU, you better get them right now.
- 47:51Speaker 4: But the problem, once again, they live off the transfer portal.
- 47:54Speaker 4: They live off all of these different players. It's hit
- 47:56Speaker 4: or miss. And when he leaves, I don't know when
- 47:59Speaker 4: it is, whether it's this year or 10 years from now,
- 48:02Speaker 4: he's going to burn it to the ground. And you
- 48:04Speaker 4: might as well just smile and understand what you're getting.
- 48:06Speaker 2: No, I agree. I've said that, too.
- 48:08Speaker 1: I've said that, you know, hey, look, Nick Saban won
- 48:09Speaker 1: a national championship there. The guy you reference eating grass,
- 48:13Speaker 1: of course, Les Miles, the grass eater. Ed Orgeron won it.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Why Brian Kelly couldn't get it done, I have no idea.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin will probably get it done. Let's do one
- 48:21Speaker 1: more SEC question, and then we'll grab a high school
- 48:23Speaker 1: question and get you on your way. I know you've
- 48:24Speaker 1: got a busy day tomorrow, and I appreciate your time today.
- 48:27Speaker 2: Who are we missing?
- 48:28Speaker 1: I know you said you didn't really like Texas A
- 48:30Speaker 1: & M, or you're not high on Texas A & M. Oklahoma,
- 48:33Speaker 1: John Mateer. Florida with John Summerall. There's an interesting story there.
- 48:36Speaker 1: A lot of the national media seem to like South Carolina, again,
- 48:39Speaker 1: as a sleeper. Who are you looking at in the SEC,
- 48:43Speaker 1: maybe a Tennessee? We talk in November, and we go, wow,
- 48:47Speaker 1: I didn't see them being here, but they're here.
- 48:49Speaker 2: Who is that team?
- 48:51Speaker 4: I honestly think it's South Carolina. And I know it
- 48:53Speaker 4: sounds crazy, but I think Beamer really likes his team.
- 48:56Speaker 4: And I don't know, I just had some conversations in
- 48:58Speaker 4: Tampa at SEC Media Day, just reading the tea leaves
- 49:02Speaker 4: with Lenore Sellers. And I just think he's a really
- 49:06Speaker 4: good player. And if you look at that offense, I
- 49:09Speaker 4: think Matt Fuller, I think he's going to be someone
- 49:13Speaker 4: that we look up and see he's had a really
- 49:16Speaker 4: good year. And you know, Sellers, he's only a junior.
- 49:18Speaker 4: It feels like he's been there forever. But I look
- 49:21Speaker 4: at South Carolina, and, Jake, I want to run you
- 49:23Speaker 4: through this schedule. I think there's an opportunity here for
- 49:27Speaker 4: South Carolina to do some things here. When you talk
- 49:30Speaker 4: about Kent State, Towson, Mississippi State, at Alabama, a team
- 49:33Speaker 4: they should have beaten at home last year, Kentucky at Florida, Tennessee.
- 49:39Speaker 4: Right there, I could make an argument. where they should
- 49:41Speaker 4: be looking pretty good. At Oklahoma, I think it's going
- 49:44Speaker 4: to be tough for them to win at Oklahoma. Host
- 49:46Speaker 4: A & M, they always play them well. At Arkansas,
- 49:50Speaker 4: host Georgia, they always play Georgia good. And then at Clemson,
- 49:54Speaker 4: we don't know how good Dabo is going to be.
- 49:56Speaker 4: I love Carolina's schedule, and I think if they can
- 49:58Speaker 4: put some things together in the first five or six
- 50:01Speaker 4: weeks of the schedule, I don't know about Will Kline
- 50:03Speaker 4: in Kentucky. I think Florida is going to be really good.
- 50:07Speaker 4: But I don't know where Florida is going to be
- 50:09Speaker 4: in the fifth week of the season after the start
- 50:11Speaker 4: that they're going to have. And they have a brutal
- 50:13Speaker 4: back half. So, I don't know. If you're asking for
- 50:17Speaker 4: a sleeper, they're 4-8 last year. They were 4-8. They
- 50:21Speaker 4: were 9-4 in 24 the year before. And then they
- 50:25Speaker 4: were 5-7 in 23. I don't like to say make
- 50:29Speaker 4: or break. I really don't. But I think this is
- 50:30Speaker 4: a super important year for Shane Beamer. I think it's
- 50:33Speaker 4: an important year for him. And oddly enough, I think
- 50:36Speaker 4: it's a big, big year for Josh Heupel. And I'm
- 50:39Speaker 4: not a big start a freshman quarterback guy, and they're
- 50:43Speaker 4: starting a freshman quarterback. It could get squirrely really quick
- 50:46Speaker 4: on Rocky Top. That's a team I am not buying
- 50:49Speaker 4: their stock this year.
- 50:50Speaker 2: No, I agree with you. I agree with you on
- 50:52Speaker 2: both of those teams.
- 50:52Speaker 1: All right, real quickly, I know you do a lot
- 50:54Speaker 1: with the Mississippi Association of Coaches, high school football. Officially,
- 50:57Speaker 1: what I call week one is this weekend. I know
- 50:59Speaker 1: the MAIS started last week. That's my week zero. Week
- 51:02Speaker 1: minus one was two weeks ago. Tupelo hosts Brandon this weekend. Oxford,
- 51:08Speaker 1: North Mississippi, we know Calhoun City is going to be good.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Kind of give our listeners or our people that's watching
- 51:13Speaker 1: kind of a tell of the tape, just 10,000-foot flyover.
- 51:16Speaker 2: I think Tupelo, Brandon has a chance to be good
- 51:18Speaker 2: this weekend. How good is Tupelo? How good is Oxford
- 51:20Speaker 2: going to be?
- 51:21Speaker 4: I think Oxford is going to be really good, and
- 51:23Speaker 4: I think Coach Cook really likes his team. The storyline
- 51:27Speaker 4: I'm really interested in watching is Grenada and Sao Panola.
- 51:30Speaker 4: You may wonder why I think that. And for people
- 51:33Speaker 4: that are watching and may not know, They swapped coaches.
- 51:36Speaker 4: And so Brooks Oakley goes to Grenada. Michael Fair, who
- 51:41Speaker 4: was a fan. People don't know that Michael was a
- 51:42Speaker 4: great football player at Mississippi State. He is now at
- 51:45Speaker 4: South Panola, who also has, you got it, Jones. Not Jones.
- 51:53Speaker 4: I'm losing my mind, Jake. Who was there at South
- 51:55Speaker 4: Panola that won all the championships?
- 51:57Speaker 1: Oh, you're talking about Lance Polk?
- 52:01Speaker 3: No.
- 52:01Speaker 2: No.
- 52:02Speaker 4: The guy that got that, um, that left South Panola,
- 52:05Speaker 4: won a couple, won some at Ackerman.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Lord, my brain's freezing.
- 52:10Speaker 4: I'll think of it in a minute.
- 52:11Speaker 2: It's freezing.
- 52:12Speaker 4: I'm looking at him right now. I can't think of it.
- 52:14Speaker 4: So he's back in a, in like kind of an
- 52:17Speaker 4: assistant coach capacity. And so I'm excited to see what
- 52:20Speaker 4: he can do along with Michael Fair. I think South
- 52:22Speaker 4: Panola is going, I'm not going to say they're going to,
- 52:26Speaker 4: they're going to be back, but I do think, I
- 52:28Speaker 4: do like what, what they're doing this year, uh, bringing in, um,
- 52:32Speaker 4: some of the older guard and kind of getting back
- 52:34Speaker 4: to that nineties, two thousands, South Panola football. But yeah,
- 52:38Speaker 4: I mean, it's the usual suspects up here. Uh, you
- 52:41Speaker 4: look at small, uh, small classification football. I'm excited to
- 52:45Speaker 4: see what, uh, Calum city can do following up that, that, um,
- 52:49Speaker 4: that state championship. And, um, you know, they lost a lot,
- 52:54Speaker 4: but even when they lose a lot, it's not the
- 52:57Speaker 4: same when other people's lose stuff in one a, because
- 52:59Speaker 4: they just, they just kind of figure it out. So, um, 2A,
- 53:03Speaker 4: I'll be interested to see out of the north who
- 53:05Speaker 4: comes out of 2A this year. I'm watching Water Valley.
- 53:09Speaker 4: I'm watching Eupora. And then out of the Delta, I mean,
- 53:12Speaker 4: you've got your normal crews of O'Bannon and some of
- 53:19Speaker 4: those teams. Simmons, obviously, is going to be there. They
- 53:22Speaker 4: played Calum City last year. So I'm excited about the
- 53:25Speaker 4: small school classification as well. So I just love it.
- 53:29Speaker 4: I love it. I've got my first game in a
- 53:31Speaker 4: couple weeks. And then I'll be streaming a game the
- 53:34Speaker 4: following week, and then we'll have our high school football coverage,
- 53:37Speaker 4: the scoreboard show on WFCA 107.9. And so that's kind
- 53:42Speaker 4: of my respite from all this craziness, this college football.
- 53:45Speaker 4: And that's why I love coming on y'all's podcast Friday night,
- 53:51Speaker 4: whatever you call it. Ricky Woods, by the way, is
- 53:55Speaker 4: the name of the coach.
- 53:56Speaker 3: There you go.
- 53:56Speaker 4: I was sitting here just spinning through my mind, and
- 53:59Speaker 4: Ricky's going to kill me if he watches this. But, but,
- 54:02Speaker 4: but y'all's podcast that you, that you and your crew
- 54:05Speaker 4: do such a good job. I love getting away from,
- 54:07Speaker 4: from college from time to time to talk high school football.
- 54:10Speaker 4: Cause it means so much to me. And I know
- 54:12Speaker 4: it means a lot to you too.
- 54:13Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 54:14Speaker 1: Brad, tell everybody where to follow you, where to find
- 54:15Speaker 1: your shows. I know it's been a long day. I'm

- 54:18Speaker 1: you probably got a long day as well.
- 54:20Speaker 4: Yeah, we got, we have a loaded show tomorrow, but yeah,
- 54:23Speaker 4: I'm just excited about high school football, you know, talking
- 54:25Speaker 4: with you guys, but yeah, the college game is kind
- 54:27Speaker 4: of where I live and, covering Ole Miss, covering the
- 54:30Speaker 4: SEC over at the Talk of Champions. You can follow

- 54:44Speaker 4: stuff there. My gosh, Jake, it is right around the corner,
- 54:47Speaker 4: and I cannot wait. We're excited. We're going to be
- 54:49Speaker 4: live in Nashville before the game. And after the game,
- 54:52Speaker 4: I can't wait for college football to start.
- 54:55Speaker 3: Perfect.
- 54:56Speaker 2: Brad, thank you so much.
- 54:57Speaker 1: We'll get you on 105.9 in the coming days as well,
- 54:59Speaker 1: right here before Ole Miss and Louisville kick it off.

- 55:04Speaker 2: get some rest.
