- 0:00The 2nd chapter of Habakkuk. Dear Lord, please be with us as
- 0:05we read through this chapter and let the Holy Spirit give us
- 0:07wisdom and insight. We ask this in Jesus name.
- 0:11So this chapter starts with a continuation of Habakkuk's
- 0:17complaint to God. I will stand at my watch and
- 0:21station myself on the ramparts. I will look to see what He will
- 0:25say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint.
- 0:30Then the Lord replied, Write down the revelation and make it
- 0:35plain on tablets, so that a herald may run with it, for the
- 0:41revelation awaits on appointed time.
- 0:45It speaks of the end, and will not prove false, though it
- 0:51linger. Wait for it.
- 0:53It will certainly come, and will not delay.
- 0:57So this seems to be, I mean, obviously it says it's an
- 1:02appointed time, a moed is what it is.
- 1:05And that's usually a feast or something that the Jewish people
- 1:09would celebrate an appointed time.
- 1:12And when the Lord is saying it for the revelation waits an
- 1:17appointed time. As I read through here more, I
- 1:20saw a lot more that points to the end of the age where you
- 1:26know, like in our future. And so I will point those out as
- 1:31we come. But it also talks about this in
- 1:34Isaiah chapter 26, verse 20. And I'm not really sure where I
- 1:41had that one. I'm going to just go ahead and
- 1:44look it up because I have again, a lot of open tabs on the Blue
- 1:49Letter Bible because it's just a great resource when studying the
- 1:54Bible. Because a lot of times, in fact,
- 1:56as I was studying this, I also found translation where they
- 2:01switched the words up and it doesn't have the same meaning.
- 2:04So I'll point that out too. But Isaiah 26 verse 20 says, go,
- 2:11my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you.
- 2:16Hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed
- 2:20by. The verse after that says, See
- 2:23the Lord's coming out of his dwelling to bunt to punish the
- 2:27people of the earth for their sins.
- 2:30The earth will disclose the blood shed on it.
- 2:33The earth will conceal its slain no longer.
- 2:37So this is definitely about the end time just before that verse
- 2:4420 in of Isaiah in chapter 26, it says, but your dead will
- 2:50live. Lord, their bodies will rise.
- 2:54Let those who dwell in the dust wake up and shout for joy.
- 2:56Your dew is like the dew of the morning.
- 2:58The earth will give birth to her dead.
- 3:01That's the resurrection. So Isaiah 26 there's, there's
- 3:05quite a bit here which I'm not going to read the whole thing
- 3:08because we've read that over it covered that in a chapter
- 3:12before, but it's a song of praise and it's about the return
- 3:15of Christ actually. So verse 4, getting back to
- 3:20Habakkuk chapter 2, see the enemy is puffed up, his desires
- 3:25are not upright, but the righteous person will live by
- 3:31his faithfulness or live by faith.
- 3:34And this is repeated throughout Scripture that we live by faith.
- 3:40In Romans chapter one, verse 17, it says, for in the gospel the
- 3:44righteousness of God is revealed, A righteousness that
- 3:48is by faith from first to last, just as it is written, the
- 3:54righteous will live by faith. And then in Galatians chapter 3,
- 4:00verse 11, clearly no one who relies on the law is justified
- 4:05before God because the righteous will live by faith.
- 4:10And that's a reference again to this Habakkuk chapter 2, verse
- 4:144. So we it's, it's the faith
- 4:17that's so important. And then also, well, here's
- 4:26another reference to this appointed time.
- 4:32And the in verse 3 from Habakkuk in Hebrews chapter 10 verse 37,
- 4:39it repeats it again. It says for in just a little
- 4:43while he who is coming will come and will not delay.
- 4:49So there is the same thing will not there will be no more delay.
- 4:53There's we have to wait for a little bit and it lingers, but
- 4:56wait for it. And what we understand about the
- 4:59lingering is is several different things.
- 5:02It says for the the Lord is is patient and he wants everyone to
- 5:06come to repentance. So he does.
- 5:10He has slowed down everything so that people can turn to him and
- 5:15come to repentance and be saved. He doesn't want to destroy
- 5:18people, but because he is a God of justice and righteousness,
- 5:22and because he's holy, all those things have to happen.
- 5:27If that wasn't true, if God wasn't righteous, if he wasn't
- 5:30just, then he could let everything just go anyway it it
- 5:34wanted. But also because he is holy, he
- 5:38can't be in the presence of unholiness because it says like
- 5:42His Holiness, the fire of His Holiness consumes.
- 5:47And so we'll see in the very end of the age that things get burnt
- 5:52up. And I just from reading the
- 5:55Bible, it just seems like that is just the presence of
- 5:58holiness. That's probably why God is not
- 6:02here with us on earth. He was in the beginning with
- 6:06Adam and Eve, but then when sin entered, all of a sudden we
- 6:08don't hear about God walking in the garden with them anymore.
- 6:12Then he's distant, so the same thing he was, you know, his
- 6:17presence was with the Israelites, but there was a
- 6:20certain point in time in their history where he left the
- 6:26covenant. The the Ark of Covenant is what
- 6:29I'm referring to, not the promise, but he left the Ark of
- 6:33the Covenant where his presence had been.
- 6:35He departed from the temple because of sin.
- 6:38So sin separates us from God. That's why we have to get rid of
- 6:42the sins so that we can be with God.
- 6:46I also think about when God gave the 10 commandments and he said
- 6:51that Mount Sinai was determined to be holy and not to let anyone
- 6:56touch it because they would die if they would touch it.
- 6:59It wasn't like a threat to people.
- 7:03It was a warning to, you know, to protect them.
- 7:08That's the way I saw it, was that God was protecting His
- 7:11people because of His presence being there.
- 7:14Just like the Ark of the Covenant.
- 7:16He only gave certain people permission to do it, probably
- 7:19because they had to go through a certain process of purification.
- 7:22That was by law, and those who were not supposed to touch the
- 7:26Ark of the Covenant, they actually died.
- 7:29There was one man who reached his hand out to study the Ark of
- 7:32the Covenant, but he wasn't supposed to be carrying it.
- 7:34And then he died. And so God warned people.
- 7:37He said there are certain ways that you do certain things and
- 7:40we don't always maybe understand it all, but He gives us.
- 7:44The only reason He gives us any kind of laws is for our own
- 7:48good, for our own benefit. So anyway, it's repeated several
- 7:56different times and and there is going to be justice that occurs
- 8:02when Jesus returns. So then it continues on.
- 8:06Did you Rage Against the sea when you rode your horses?
- 8:12Oh wait, I turned too many pages.
- 8:15OK, let's go back. Verse 5.
- 8:17Indeed, wine betrays him. He is arrogant and never at
- 8:23rest, because he is greedy as the grave, and like death is
- 8:29never satisfied. He gathers to himself all the
- 8:32nations and takes captive all the people.
- 8:36Now this is talking about the enemy.
- 8:40So the enemy is puffed off, peace, prideful.
- 8:43He doesn't have good desires like Satan seeks to kill and
- 8:48destroy. That's what his desires are.
- 8:50They're not upright, but the righteous person will live
- 8:54spiritually and in a physical body after Jesus returns by
- 8:58faith. So our faith is really important
- 9:01and our faith grows by hearing the word of God, the message of
- 9:06the gospel. That's how our faith grows.
- 9:09And so it's that's why it's so important to be in the Bible
- 9:13reading it every day now about people who the enemy and it says
- 9:21indeed, wine betrays him. So God does say he tells us not
- 9:27to get drunk and it says be of sober mind because the devil
- 9:31falls looking for his next victim.
- 9:34I think when our mind is in an altered state, and it could be
- 9:37anything that affects our mind and puts it into an altered
- 9:39state, when we are not aware as clear headed, we are more
- 9:46susceptible to doing things we wouldn't do if our mind wasn't
- 9:51cloudy. So wine is something that goes
- 9:54along. That's why I believe that's why
- 9:56God tells us not to get drunk. And because it it, it makes us
- 10:02do things that are sin related that are against God and that
- 10:07separates us from God. And then it says he, he is
- 10:11arrogant. So pride is one of the things
- 10:13that God really does not like. It says pride comes before the
- 10:18fall. That's another verse in
- 10:20Scripture. And then he's greedy as the
- 10:23grave. So, you know, we all die except
- 10:28for the way I read Scripture. When Jesus returns, there will
- 10:31be some that are still living and they, they won't even
- 10:34experience death. They will just be gathered up to
- 10:36him. So not all will actually die,
- 10:40but most of us will die. But he is greedy as the grave.
- 10:44That means, you know, like everybody dot, you know, most
- 10:48people die, the majority of people die.
- 10:51And so the enemy is greedy just like that.
- 10:54He wants people to die and like death is never satisfied, so
- 10:59it's never good enough for him. That's probably why he
- 11:01originally rebelled against God, because he wasn't happy with all
- 11:05the things God gave him and he just wanted more.
- 11:09And so he wanted to be God and that's why he rebelled against
- 11:15God. He wanted to be in place of God.
- 11:17He didn't want to be submitted to God.
- 11:20And he gathers to himself all nations.
- 11:22That makes sense because he just wants everybody to worship him
- 11:26and takes captive all the peoples so he's out to conquer.
- 11:31Will not all of them taunt him with ridicule and scorn, saying
- 11:36woe to him who piles up stolen goods and makes himself wealthy
- 11:42by extortion? So you see, there's stolen goods
- 11:45and extortion. You know, it's getting rich by I
- 11:51don't know dishonest ways about going about getting acquiring
- 11:57money. Money itself is not bad.
- 11:59It's how what it does with us, where we place it.
- 12:03If we place that as our priority over and above God, yes, it's
- 12:07it's bad and it'll let you know. I would just destruction will
- 12:12occur. If we place a priority on it,
- 12:15it'll it'll be gone. I mean, we don't take it with
- 12:17us. There's a verse in Scripture
- 12:19that I think about too. It's like naked I come into the
- 12:21earth and naked I will leave. So we don't take any of this
- 12:24stuff with us and, and eventually this earth is going
- 12:28to be entirely destroyed. So even if you think, well, I'm
- 12:31going to build up these, you know, great masses of wealth and
- 12:35I'm going to pass it on to my family and continue it on my
- 12:38family. That's actually kind of short
- 12:41sighted because if you look at an eternal perspective, your
- 12:46family's not going to even get it because the whole earth is
- 12:49going to be burned up. Now, who knows when exactly
- 12:54that's going to be, but it does feel like it's getting closer
- 12:57for sure. And and we just need to have our
- 13:01priorities on God. God sometimes gives people
- 13:07wealth and abundance and he does that as he chooses to do it.
- 13:14And also, he wants the people we know from Scripture what he
- 13:18wants. He wants us to use that as a
- 13:20resource, as a tool to help other people.
- 13:23It's never just for our own luxury, our own satisfaction,
- 13:28because that is, that's like selfishness.
- 13:31And God is selfless. Like he sent his one and only
- 13:35Son to die for us on the cross so that we could be in his
- 13:40Kingdom. So he was completely selfless.
- 13:44And that's what love is too. That is love is selfless and if
- 13:49we really understand the true definition of it, then we'll see
- 13:53that acquiring things for our self is not really love.
- 13:59It's not love towards others. So let's see, woe to.
- 14:07OK. So it's just about, I think
- 14:09about also about things that I've heard that I just I wonder
- 14:16about it now. Like they, you know, a lot of
- 14:18it, there's songs written about it.
- 14:20I think Charlie Daniels has a song about selling your soul to
- 14:23the devil. And so I really do wonder that
- 14:25because people have talked about that musicians have.
- 14:30And there's also people in Hollywood, people who have fame,
- 14:34who have talked about that, where they have like, you know,
- 14:37sold out for wealth. They've compromised their values
- 14:42and done things so that they could obtain wealth.
- 14:46And it's this verse makes me think about that.
- 14:50If you've extorted somebody, if you've taken advantage of
- 14:54someone to gain wealth, I think this is all what God is talking
- 14:57about. How long must this go on?
- 15:00Will not your creditors suddenly arise?
- 15:03Will they not wake up and make you tremble?
- 15:07So I wonder if this wake up is, you know, a spiritual thing or
- 15:12like the resurrection, like that is going to make somebody
- 15:16tremble when somebody wakes up, When somebody rises from the
- 15:20dead, that is really going to put some shock and awe in
- 15:23people. And that is what will happen in
- 15:26the future. Then you will become their prey
- 15:30because you have plundered many nations.
- 15:32The peoples who are left will plunder you.
- 15:37So again, this is what I think God actually was warning us
- 15:42about in Matthew Chapter 7 verse 12.
- 15:45It says so in everything do to others what you would have them
- 15:50do to you. For this sums up the law and the
- 15:55prophets. So eventually there's going to
- 15:59be justice. If we live our lives doing to
- 16:03others what we would have them do to us, then we're going to be
- 16:09OK. But if we do to others what we
- 16:12would not want to be done to us, we are going to suffer that
- 16:17because it's like whatever we do seems to come back to us.
- 16:21And I've noticed this also in the Bible was that if God, I
- 16:28don't know, if God put somebody through testing and like Job and
- 16:34took away a lot of things at the end, he doubly blessed him.
- 16:38Then there are other times like get Babylon, Mystery Babylon,
- 16:43that he's going to have like a double portion of wrath come on
- 16:47Babylon. And so a lot of times whatever
- 16:50has been done is going to come back twice as bad, you know,
- 16:52twice as bad or twice as good. So it really is important to
- 16:58have that perspective, like do to others what you would have
- 17:02them do to you because eventually that justice is going
- 17:05to happen. And then it continues and says
- 17:09for you have shed human blood, you have destroyed lands and
- 17:13cities and everyone in them. Woe to him who builds his house
- 17:18by unjust gain, setting his nest high to escape the clutches of
- 17:25Rune. I when I read that I think about
- 17:29people building bunkers too. Like really extravagant bunkers
- 17:34that the everyday person probably couldn't afford to do.
- 17:38But they're planning on having a hideout, a place of safety to
- 17:43keep them from if there's ever any major war or whatever is
- 17:48coming. Which in the Bible there is
- 17:51going to be some pretty severe things that are coming up in the
- 17:55future. And you know, people probably
- 17:58don't read the Bible who are doing these kind of creating
- 18:01these bunker things, but they're probably just looking at the
- 18:03world and that the probability of war that will happen again.
- 18:07And the Bible does say that war will continue all the way until
- 18:11the time that Jesus returns. But these bunkers in the end,
- 18:15when we read about the return of Jesus, doesn't help.
- 18:18God's going to seek them out anyway.
- 18:20They, they think they're hidden, but they won't be hidden.
- 18:23No one can escape God. And that's something that we
- 18:26need to keep in mind too. We can't think like, I'll do
- 18:29this and this and this and then I won't be able to be touched by
- 18:31it. No, you, you know, you can see
- 18:34from the history of what happened to Jerusalem during
- 18:38Jeremiah's time that everything happened to the people of
- 18:42Jerusalem. Just as he said, they went into
- 18:44exile, some of them died, some of them went into cat, they were
- 18:48captors, some of them never returned to their land.
- 18:51Some of them saw their family members killed.
- 18:53There were all sorts of things and everything that God said
- 18:55happened. So going to verse 10 from
- 18:59Habakkuk, you have plotted the ruin of many peoples.
- 19:02This is the enemy shaming your own house and forfeiting your
- 19:06life. So here's something else that
- 19:09would apply to us as well. Something that Jesus said in
- 19:13Matthew 16 verse 26. What good will it be for someone
- 19:18to gain the whole world yet forfeit their soul?
- 19:24Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
- 19:28Our soul is our being. The Bible tells us we are
- 19:32made-up of of three things. We have a spirit, a soul, and a
- 19:38body, three things. And so our soul is our
- 19:43personality and our body is the vessel that gets to that.
- 19:48The soul inhabits for a period of time.
- 19:51So it's like what Jesus compares to the wineskins.
- 19:54Like you put wine in a wineskin and eventually someday that you
- 19:58know, you'll need a new one and we're going to have new ones.
- 20:01When Jesus returns, we're going to have like new wineskins, but.
- 20:04That's figuratively, but so we have a body that the soul
- 20:10resides inside the body. Then the Spirit is our
- 20:14connection to God and so our spirit is dead until Jesus
- 20:23awakens our spirit or until Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit
- 20:28that resides within us. When we have the Holy Spirit,
- 20:32just like Jesus said in John chapter 3, that unless you are
- 20:37born again, born of the Spirit, you cannot enter the Kingdom of
- 20:41God. So we need the Holy Spirit.
- 20:44So essentially, I mean, maybe we have a spirit that's that's dead
- 20:48in us, but we it's not alive. And so if we just have a soul
- 20:56and a body, a soul is eternal. And the question is, where will
- 21:02we end up if we just have a soul and a soul and a body and no
- 21:06spirit, not the Holy Spirit, then we go to destruction.
- 21:11That's what happens. We have no connection to God.
- 21:15We need that connection to God. We need the Holy Spirit.
- 21:17That's how Jesus was raised from the dead, by the power of the
- 21:20Holy Spirit. And Jesus gives us the Holy
- 21:24Spirit and we, that is why Jesus probably said, I am the way, the
- 21:28truth and the life, and no one comes to the Father except
- 21:31through me. Because Jesus is basically the
- 21:34keeper of the Holy Spirit. He, you know, he receives the
- 21:37Spirit from the Father and gives it to whomever he wants.
- 21:40So if we deny Jesus, there's no way to get the Holy Spirit.
- 21:45God the Father is not going to give us the Holy Spirit if we
- 21:48circumvent Jesus, because God sent Jesus here to save us, to
- 21:53make it possible for us to be in the Kingdom.
- 21:55If we reject the one person that God sent to us to save us, it's,
- 22:02it's too bad, you know, then, then we don't get to go into
- 22:06God's Kingdom. And it's not just being in his
- 22:08Kingdom, but we are going to be suffering the wrath of God and
- 22:15it's eternal torment. A lot of people that are
- 22:18rebellious think that they're really cool, that they're really
- 22:24above everybody else because, you know, they, they think and
- 22:29they've been deceived that it's freedom, but it's not, it's
- 22:33actually slavery of the enemy of God.
- 22:35And God is the one who gives freedom.
- 22:39And true freedom is when we receive the Holy Spirit because
- 22:42we are not bound by the law. If we are bound by the law, that
- 22:46means if we break any of the law, we will be eternally
- 22:49separated from God and in eternal torment.
- 22:54And that's why trying to keep the law won't get us into God's
- 23:00Kingdom. We need the Holy Spirit now.
- 23:03A What happens once we have the Holy Spirit is we start becoming
- 23:09more like Christ. So we start, I guess, doing good
- 23:15things, becoming a better person.
- 23:17But it's through the Holy Spirit, through the power of God
- 23:20that begins to change us when we are willing to let the Holy
- 23:23Spirit guide our lives. So this is just really, really
- 23:28important information for everybody.
- 23:31So if, if this is new to you, please share this with other
- 23:35people that it might also be new because it's so important to get
- 23:40prepared with the Holy Spirit from Jesus.
- 23:45Anyway. So it, you know, like it says,
- 23:49what goodwill it be if you gain all this wealth, gain the whole
- 23:52world, but you forfeit your soul.
- 23:56So the stories are the stones of the wall will cry out and the
- 24:01beams of the woodwork will echo it.
- 24:04Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed and establishes a
- 24:09town by injustice. Now this made me think about
- 24:14something that's going on in the world today.
- 24:17There is a religious group who wants to conquer the world,
- 24:24wants everybody to be under their same religion.
- 24:28God doesn't force a religion on anybody.
- 24:31So if anybody is doing that, that's the enemy, because the
- 24:36enemy is the slave driver, the one who enslaves people.
- 24:42But God isn't. He is the God of freedom.
- 24:44So if somebody is coming in to conquer and they do it with
- 24:48bloodshed, God is talking about them right now.
- 24:52Woe to him who builds a city with bloodshed.
- 24:56So if you're going in there to and killing people who don't
- 24:59agree with you and wanting, you know, saying that our religion
- 25:03is going to rule everywhere, that's God's enemy.
- 25:09And hopefully those people will have a visitation from Jesus and
- 25:16their eyes will be opened before it's too late and before they
- 25:21are deceived when they die, that they will not be in God's
- 25:28Kingdom. They think they have some things
- 25:31waiting for them, but they're going to be really sad when they
- 25:34find out that's not true because that that whole religion is
- 25:39built upon a lie. The Bible was the final book of
- 25:44the Bible was written in 90 AD and it said within the Bible
- 25:49that if a messenger or an Angel or anyone else comes in it and
- 25:54tells you a gospel different than what we have told you, let
- 25:58them be accursed. So anyone who does that, who's
- 26:01tells a different story that doesn't include Jesus, they are
- 26:05accursed. And if Jesus is not your Savior
- 26:10then, and you are in a religion, you better get out of it before
- 26:14Jesus returns, because once he returns, that's when the wrath
- 26:18of God comes. And if you're on the wrong side,
- 26:22it's not going to go well. So verse 13, has not the Lord
- 26:28Almighty determined that the people's labor is only fuel for
- 26:32the fire, that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing?
- 26:36For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory
- 26:40of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
- 26:43Well, during the Millennium, once Jesus returns, everyone
- 26:47will know who he is and that he is the Son of God, and he will
- 26:52reign. So this this will happen.
- 26:55It says then verse 15, woe to him who gives drink to his
- 27:01neighbors, pouring it from the wineskin till they are drunk so
- 27:05that he can gaze on their naked bodies.
- 27:08There's probably something more to this, but taking it exactly
- 27:14for what it is, kind of a warning about people like that
- 27:20does happen out in bars where people take sexual advantage of
- 27:24somebody else by getting them drunk.
- 27:26So at if nothing else, it's a warning about that.
- 27:30But I think it probably has some deeper spiritual significance
- 27:37this Well verse 215 in the study Bible, it says this verse
- 27:41describes the rape of a nation in human terms.
- 27:45Getting someone to drink too much alcohol in order to take
- 27:48advantage of them is nothing new.
- 27:50The Babylonians exploited other nations doing what they wanted
- 27:55with them, but the shame they caused others would soon be
- 27:59their own. Because a lot of times
- 28:01relational things God used metaphorically when he was
- 28:05talking about, but you know it has a literal meaning and a
- 28:09symbolic meaning at the same time.
- 28:12It says you will be filled with shame instead of glory.
- 28:16Now it is your turn. Drink and let your nakedness be
- 28:20exposed again. This is justice you know, do
- 28:23unto others. The Matthew 712 the cup from the
- 28:27Lord's right hand is coming around to you, and disgrace will
- 28:32cover your glory. So the cup is God's wrath, and
- 28:37again this is talking about the end of the age, the return of
- 28:39Jesus. The violence you have done to
- 28:42Lebanon will overwhelm you, and your destruction of animals will
- 28:45terrify you, for you have shed human blood.
- 28:48You have destroyed lands and cities and everyone in them.
- 28:52This verse was a little bit confusing to me because it
- 28:54throws in Lebanon and I did look at the original Hebrew and it
- 28:58does talk about Lebanon and the way that the sentence structure
- 29:02in Hebrew is if you go to blueletterbible.org, it's still
- 29:06kind of hard to comprehend, but there's things that were added
- 29:11in the sentence that I read that are not words from the actual
- 29:17Hebrew text. And it's really, it's just
- 29:20interesting that Hamas is in this and Hamas means violence
- 29:26and, and, and Lebanon is actually in this.
- 29:29And I just just today, it just seems like that's kind of wild.
- 29:33But those two words together are connected.
- 29:38And I don't fully grasp what this is saying.
- 29:42And especially when it's talking about end times and I think
- 29:44about what's happening right now.
- 29:46And I don't know, maybe there's more to that.
- 29:50But then continuing on in verse 18 of Habakkuk, it says of what
- 29:55value is an idol carved by a Craftsman or an image that
- 30:02teaches lies? Does that sound like anything
- 30:05today, like maybe AI, like something that's not real,
- 30:09that's teaching people things, telling people things.
- 30:12But it can be programmed to whatever the programmer wants it
- 30:18to the Craftsman for the one who makes it trust in his own
- 30:23creation. He makes idols that cannot
- 30:26speak. Woe to him who says to would
- 30:30come to life or to a lifeless stone.
- 30:34Wake up. Can it give guidance?
- 30:36It is covered with gold and silver.
- 30:37There is no breath in it. The Lord is in His holy temple.
- 30:42Let all the earth be silent before him.
- 30:44Now when I read this about this image coming to life and knowing
- 30:50that this is about the end times, it relates to Revelation
- 30:5713 verse 15. The second beast which was the
- 31:02false prophet is not was the second beast was given power to
- 31:08give breath to the image of the first beast so that the image
- 31:15could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to
- 31:20be killed. I mean, that's a good
- 31:24possibility for AI. It could definitely be something
- 31:27else than that. But today, with what we know, it
- 31:29sure sounds like something that could happen with AI.
- 31:32And once there, there are these supernatural powers that are
- 31:35coming with these not literal beasts, but it's a false
- 31:40prophet. The second beast is who?
- 31:41That is it. It says, you know, it looked
- 31:43like a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon.
- 31:45The lamb is Jesus, the dragon is Satan.
- 31:48So it looked like something holy, but it was speaking the
- 31:52words of Satan. So that's what the second beast,
- 31:55it's a false prophet. And this is what Habakkuk is
- 31:59also talking about it. It seems like it at least.
- 32:03So that is the end of chapter 2, but I'm going to read the
- 32:08questions and answers for this chapter and then wrap this one
- 32:11up. So on chapter 2, why would a
- 32:14prophet stand to watch on the ramparts?
- 32:17Watchmen stood in watchtowers around the around the clock to
- 32:20watch for messengers and to guard against a possible
- 32:24invasion. Ramparts, embankments of the
- 32:27earth beyond the city walls were the first lines of defence.
- 32:30Like a watchman, Habakkuk was waiting and ready for God's
- 32:34answer to his question. Why wait for something that will
- 32:38not be delayed? Will not delay may refer to the
- 32:43certainty of God's promise than to its immediacy.
- 32:48God's promise to punish the Babylonians wasn't fulfilled for
- 32:52nearly 80 years. This may be a lifetime to us,
- 32:56but it's not long from God's perspective.
- 32:58To believe God will act even when it seems like he's
- 33:01forgotten is an exercise of faith.
- 33:04And again, I think this is even further about the end because it
- 33:08says it speaks of the end and will not prove false.
- 33:11So I think this goes further. Babylon was the first.
- 33:14It was a foreshadowing of the future, but not the finality of
- 33:18it. The righteous person will live
- 33:21by his faithfulness. This idea of trusting God even
- 33:24when everything is going wrong is expanded in the New Testament
- 33:28to include trusting Jesus Christ for spiritual life.
- 33:32And what does it mean to be greedy as the grave?
- 33:38Since the fall of Adam and Eve, people have died, and death
- 33:42continues to take people every minute.
- 33:44The grave never has enough. Such were the Babylonians, who
- 33:48were never satisfied with what they had conquered.
- 33:51And again, I think it's even expanded beyond the Babylonians
- 33:54to the spirit behind the Babylonians and ultimately to
- 33:59Satan. So how do stones cry out and
- 34:03beams echo back? The stones cry out and the beams
- 34:06echo it in that they perpetually witness the unjust means of
- 34:13building the house. They say, in effect, here's a
- 34:15house built unjustly. How were their laborers only
- 34:20fuel for the fire? Those whose whose labor is
- 34:23fuelled by ungodly means here building a city by violence, are
- 34:29only spinning their powerful proverbial wheels.
- 34:33Despite the initial results, hard work by ungodly means will
- 34:37eventually come under the judgement of God.
- 34:40All injustices will be exposed when the knowledge of the Lord
- 34:45is revealed. When will the earth be filled
- 34:48with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord?
- 34:51When we have a new heaven and a new earth, until then God has
- 34:55given us the words of the faithful prophets so that we may
- 35:00maintain and extend the knowledge of the glory of the
- 35:04Lord. Is it OK to argue with God?
- 35:09Many people in the Bible expressed passionate, honest,
- 35:11and even angry prayers. Habakkuk wasn't the only one to
- 35:14voice his complaints. Moses, Gideon, Elijah, and Job,
- 35:18among others, also questioned and argued with God.
- 35:21God listens with a sympathetic ear when we complain about
- 35:23injustice. When jolted by life's
- 35:26unfairness, we should realize that God was bothered by such
- 35:29things long before we were. In fact, injustice would not
- 35:33upset us at all if God had not given human beings an inherent
- 35:38desire for justice. Our sense of right and wrong
- 35:42comes from Him. You can find that in Romans
- 35:45chapter one, verse 18 through 32.
- 35:49Because God knows our deepest thoughts, we might as well be
- 35:52honest with Him and ourselves and admit our feelings of
- 35:56outrage, our confusion. But watch out.
- 35:59God's answer may be as perplexing as our question.
- 36:03God's answer to our question may not be what we expect.
- 36:08As Habakkuk, Job, and others discovered, God seldom explains
- 36:13himself or His ways, and if He does, people seldom comprehend
- 36:18his explanation. Instead, they are overwhelmed
- 36:22with His power and love. In the end, though, though we
- 36:26may not know the answers to all of our questions, we come to
- 36:30know God better. Why mention animals?
- 36:34The destruction of animals? In this verse, God's great anger
- 36:37over the exploitation of his whole creation is made obvious.
- 36:41Even the exploit, the exploitative use of animals,
- 36:47gifts of God were meant to help humanity, elicits God's wrath.
- 36:52Humans are stewards, not dictators, of God's creation.
- 36:58Do people have idols today? Absolutely.
- 37:01Anything that competes with God and occupies our time,
- 37:05attention, money, and gifts to the extent that it jeopardizes
- 37:10our relationship with Him is an idol.
- 37:13Idols may change from age to age, but what does not change is
- 37:18the inclination to worship the creation of our own hands rather
- 37:23than the One who created us. What does it mean that God is in
- 37:29His holy temple? This phrase suggests that even
- 37:32though everything on earth may be in shambles, God still
- 37:36reigns. All things are under His
- 37:39sovereign control and within His power to manage.
- 37:44And that's the end of chapter 2. We will pick up with chapter 3
- 37:49next time since this podcast is already long, so please
- 37:53subscribe if you haven't and share this with others.
- 37:56Thank you.
