- 0:23Speaker 1: in casey you are unaware of this, We're now going
- 0:25Speaker 1: twice a week. Brad Richardson is our special guest today.
- 0:28Speaker 1: It's even better because I wasn't a part of it.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Talent JD question. Obviously, he's got great stories from his
- 0:32Speaker 1: time winning the Stanley Cup in Los Angeles in twenty twelve.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Coming to the league with the Avalanche.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Brad was fantastic, and of course we're talking about all
- 0:39Speaker 1: things at Nhall, including Loul Lamerell no longer a member
- 0:41Speaker 1: of the New York Islanders. But again thanks to everyone
- 0:44Speaker 1: who always is a part of our previous episodes. Jackie
- 0:46Speaker 1: Redmand specifically was great joining us from WrestleMania. Alex Moffin
- 0:49Speaker 1: is gonna be joining us next week. Former SNL cast
- 0:52Speaker 1: member from The Link. So honestly, our multitasking guests are fantastic.
- 0:55Speaker 1: But we're not even a week of the playoffs. Everyone's
- 0:57Speaker 1: buzzing about what's happening so far, with the exception of
- 0:59Speaker 1: the fact Steve Trunzano yesterday took a shot at us.
- 1:02Speaker 1: This was on NHL Now Jason Nise with our friend
- 1:04Speaker 1: e J. Raddick and Tron Shift right, and Shohn said,
- 1:07Speaker 1: makes you listen to NHL tonight first Shift the podcast.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Don't listen to that NHL is scripted podcast, and he goes, yeah, yeah,
- 1:13Speaker 1: those guys and commercials. No, this isn't your spot news
- 1:16Speaker 1: and information movies. Tron's buried us. Unbelievable.
- 1:19Speaker 3: That was an interesting one because that one seemed like
- 1:22Speaker 3: it was it was personal. Yeah, that was personal.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Yeah, he was going, don't listen to those guys.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Yeah, he's been up in his Ivory tower for too long.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I did like that you mention that he came down
- 1:32Speaker 1: for Hisavrey Tower just to do that show with jd
- 1:34Speaker 1: Limberg got a commission.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Don't know where Jady Limberg was, but.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Yeah, he took it day off. Yeah, it's an interesting
- 1:38Speaker 3: time around the office at the end of the MLB
- 1:40Speaker 3: network once uh MLB starts up. Yeah, it's we we fight.
- 1:45Speaker 3: We fight every day. We fight every day. But you know, I,
- 1:49Speaker 3: you know, for the fans at home watching this, I
- 1:52Speaker 3: just have a few questions or quick questions for you.
- 1:55Speaker 3: What's with the Emmy behind you? And then the backwards
- 1:57Speaker 3: hat today because this is a look I have not seen.
- 2:00Speaker 1: It looks playing was playing tennis earlier, didn't have a
- 2:03Speaker 1: chance of shower. Yet that's the backwards had Emmy award.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I noticed your background planned right, it's just like a
- 2:08Speaker 1: white background to some books in the distance.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Cancel what it is.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Talas background also nothing distinguishable. So I said, you know what,
- 2:14Speaker 1: I'm gonna have my Pacino Godfather picture in the back
- 2:16Speaker 1: of the Emmy. Just just bruce it up because we are
- 2:18Speaker 1: using some video here a little bit more often. So
- 2:20Speaker 1: I said, let's just try it out. Because your guys
- 2:22Speaker 1: backwards is not great. Let's get to the wild because
- 2:24Speaker 1: no one's given the whild that they love and you
- 2:25Speaker 1: want to talk about them. They look great last night,
- 2:27Speaker 1: bounce back in a major way. Left for dead after
- 2:29Speaker 1: Game one five two to even the series. Three points
- 2:31Speaker 1: for Corell to throw a Caprice off. If we had
- 2:33Speaker 1: a quarter pole mark of the year, it would have
- 2:35Speaker 1: been the MVP. Two points are Matt Boldie Minnesota's got
- 2:38Speaker 1: New Life love the fact Tony Luff was calling Gusta
- 2:40Speaker 1: some the gus bus on NHL tonight while they're back
- 2:43Speaker 1: in this baby like I got Vegas winning it, but
- 2:45Speaker 1: I didn't really get the Wile much of a chance
- 2:47Speaker 1: and they looked again speaking of that word resounding last night.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the last two games, I think Vegas
- 2:55Speaker 3: is very surprised with the way the Minnesota while come
- 2:58Speaker 3: up because we've never really known what the Wild had
- 3:01Speaker 3: because they're injured all year and they're playing with a
- 3:03Speaker 3: chip on their show that they're playing very physical. The
- 3:06Speaker 3: Vegas Golden Knights do not have a second to breathe.
- 3:09Speaker 3: I mean, Shay Theodor had one of those games or
- 3:11Speaker 3: you want to crawl under the ice. Last game where
- 3:13Speaker 3: minus four and and nothing was going right, but that's
- 3:16Speaker 3: just by the pressure from Minnesota while now the second
- 3:19Speaker 3: and third period Vegas to dominate, but Gustavson held his own.
- 3:22Speaker 3: But I'm gonna say something. I'm gonna take a bold prediction.
- 3:26Speaker 3: I don't think they win this round. I think Vegas
- 3:29Speaker 3: ends up winning. But I think I think within the
- 3:31Speaker 3: three years they are either gonna contend for Stanley Cup
- 3:35Speaker 3: or win a Stanley Cup.
- 3:36Speaker 1: If that's not bold, you just hedge they're gonna contend.
- 3:38Speaker 1: First thing, be final four go they.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Will they have an opportunity to win a Stanley Cup
- 3:44Speaker 3: in the next time.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I think that maple LEAs im optunity to win the
- 3:46Speaker 1: Stanley Cup the next three ERSO, how is that a
- 3:47Speaker 1: bold prediction? Bold they're gonna win the Cup or the
- 3:50Speaker 1: final four the next three years, say Western Conference Final?
- 3:53Speaker 3: They will, they will win the Cup? Are you like
- 3:56Speaker 3: this is? Are you joking?
- 3:58Speaker 2: Said? Will they're gonna contend for a Stanley Cup? Like
- 4:02Speaker 2: I give.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Sixty I said, they'll win a Stanley Cup in the
- 4:07Speaker 3: next three years.
- 4:08Speaker 2: No, no, no, tell go back and listen to it. For god,
- 4:10Speaker 2: I changed.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Because you wanted me to give you more. No, I said,
- 4:14Speaker 3: they will win a Cup in the next three years.
- 4:16Speaker 2: That's the kind of thing we're looking for. On the record,
- 4:18Speaker 2: in the next three years.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I would bet. I would take a futures bet. Brian
- 4:24Speaker 3: Boyle came into our group chat too. He said, there
- 4:26Speaker 3: you go, Boiler goes, Brian Boyle goes. Can I bet
- 4:29Speaker 3: the futures on the wild and I'm watching them? Said
- 4:31Speaker 3: they're one or two pieces away, one maybe from and
- 4:36Speaker 3: even you could say that they have most of that
- 4:38Speaker 3: on the roster right now, but they're one swing away.
- 4:40Speaker 3: They're getting all the money off their cap. This year,
- 4:43Speaker 3: all that dead cap money, they're getting it off. They're
- 4:45Speaker 3: gonna take a swing. Caprice off and Boldie are and
- 4:49Speaker 3: Eric Sinek excuse me, that line is unbelievable. You have
- 4:52Speaker 3: a first line. Now you get another big player. Their
- 4:55Speaker 3: decor is stout. They have a goalie and gust the bus.
- 4:59Speaker 3: In three years, I would not be surprised if they
- 5:01Speaker 3: win a Stanley Cup. There's you, son of a bitch.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Well, the good news is Vegas is gonna win this
- 5:07Speaker 1: series anyway, so they're not winning like that this year.
- 5:09Speaker 1: The Panthers fantastic performance last night, emphatic six to two.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Matthew could Chuck looked absolutely fabulous. First given more than
- 5:16Speaker 1: two months, he scores two goals while adding an assist.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Everyone said, well, if he's healthy, it's a different story.
- 5:21Speaker 1: You said we were sleeping on the Panthers. I called
- 5:23Speaker 1: the Panthers win, so I wasn't sleeping on them. I
- 5:24Speaker 1: had the Panthers in six.
- 5:26Speaker 3: But most of the Panthers are witness.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Yeah tells you remember I remember I said Panthers in six,
- 5:30Speaker 1: Say tells backing me up. Your texts were like, oh,
- 5:33Speaker 1: we were sleeping not we you demurz ESPN analysts all
- 5:36Speaker 1: of them were picking the Lightning. I said, Panthers in six,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and it was an emphatic performance. I mean it was
- 5:41Speaker 1: great to see. Quite frankly, now, I don't think the
- 5:43Speaker 1: Panthers sweep. I don't I think this goes six. I
- 5:46Speaker 1: wouldn't be shocked the Lightning wing six to two in
- 5:47Speaker 1: game two, but a resounding performance again for the Panthers.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I loved it. It was awesome.
- 5:51Speaker 3: How many resoundings are you gonna get?
- 5:53Speaker 1: You get the point that they're trying to do. I'm
- 5:54Speaker 1: trying to do it to get a reaction to you
- 5:56Speaker 1: and just everything. You're like, well, I got the potentially
- 5:58Speaker 1: win three.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Gonna get a reaction if you give me an original,
- 6:01Speaker 3: if you give me something original, not resounding eighteen, Well.
- 6:03Speaker 1: That might you pay attention when I said in the podcast,
- 6:05Speaker 1: which is the Panther are gonna win the series? And
- 6:07Speaker 1: then you're like, oh, nobody picked him, Like, well I did.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Thanks for paying attention, Thanks for listening. What was that
- 6:12Speaker 1: was I not paying attention? This is our first fight,
- 6:14Speaker 1: this is their first fight. Attention to detail pour from diverse.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Go ahead, go back to your predictions.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Please. You had the Lightning winning.
- 6:21Speaker 3: I was ahead. When I said we, I think I was.
- 6:23Speaker 3: I meant the NHL network, not the NLB network. Listen,
- 6:27Speaker 3: you know more. You know more than me.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Why would you text it to me the NHL and
- 6:30Speaker 1: script It makes no sense. You're texting all talent tow
- 6:32Speaker 1: Did you have Tampa?
- 6:34Speaker 3: I didn't think. Sorry, I don't like it.
- 6:37Speaker 4: I don't like it when mommy and daddy fight.
- 6:39Speaker 3: I'm just gonna this is good. I like it though,
- 6:41Speaker 3: this is no. I love the fire. I didn't make
- 6:42Speaker 3: any picks.
- 6:43Speaker 4: If I had, I would have taken Tampa for sure,
- 6:47Speaker 4: because they had so much momentum going in. But I mean,
- 6:50Speaker 4: that's what a Matthew Kuchuk does. He comes in and
- 6:53Speaker 4: plays for the first time in two and a half
- 6:54Speaker 4: months and completely flips a series on its ear in
- 6:57Speaker 4: one game.
- 6:57Speaker 3: And that's right, that's what we got. Now, I was
- 7:00Speaker 3: sleeping on them, and we lest we forget this team
- 7:03Speaker 3: and now who those where the series goes. But I
- 7:06Speaker 3: mean there's a lot of discussions right now and the
- 7:08Speaker 3: whole LTI R thing and and teams. You know, Matthew
- 7:12Speaker 3: Kichuk have playing Game one and then Evander Kine not
- 7:15Speaker 3: being allowed to play Game one because of the lt
- 7:17Speaker 3: I R stuff. So I was listening to thirty two
- 7:20Speaker 3: thoughts of Elliott Friedman, and there's a lot of conversation
- 7:23Speaker 3: right now about that because you know, the way he looks,
- 7:27Speaker 3: it's like he's been playing for two months. So but
- 7:30Speaker 3: that's just credit to who he is as a player.
- 7:32Speaker 3: I mean, he was good. I think Vasilevsky was dog
- 7:35Speaker 3: water last night. He did not have a good game whatsoever.
- 7:39Speaker 3: And I think they just pounced on him early. And
- 7:42Speaker 3: you know, it's tough when you a team of that
- 7:44Speaker 3: pedigree and that you know that has that winning mentality
- 7:48Speaker 3: when they get up that you know, four goals, you
- 7:50Speaker 3: have a hard time coming back and you're just not
- 7:53Speaker 3: gonna be able to battle your way back. And I
- 7:55Speaker 3: just thought they did a great job there. Physical. This
- 7:57Speaker 3: is a good team when they're healthy and they're still
- 7:58Speaker 3: missing Aaron eck bladeron eckback comes back in a game.
- 8:01Speaker 3: So I was like, why I was kind of bullish
- 8:04Speaker 3: on Tampa. I'm like, well, you know, the decor is
- 8:06Speaker 3: going to be light. They might win one or two games.
- 8:09Speaker 3: They'll win the first two games at home, and then
- 8:11Speaker 3: you know, k Bott'll come back, It'll be a pretty
- 8:13Speaker 3: even series. Now, I'm like, I'm nervous if I'm Tampa Bay,
- 8:16Speaker 3: because you gotta win this game. Because if ek Bad
- 8:18Speaker 3: comes back and he looks like a chuck, I mean,
- 8:21Speaker 3: fuck you. You guys are in trouble right now. Resounding
- 8:24Speaker 3: defeat by them and an emphatic loss.
- 8:27Speaker 1: It certainly was for gay one six to the final
- 8:30Speaker 1: Winnipeg Jets. By the way, speaking of a commanding lead,
- 8:33Speaker 1: there's a synonym for you. They're completely and control theer
- 8:35Speaker 1: series of two zero over the Winnipeg Jets. That series
- 8:38Speaker 1: turns to Saint Louis on Thursday.
- 8:41Speaker 3: How how great's that series been? Though it's a two
- 8:44Speaker 3: nothing both, it doesn't feel like a one versus eight. No, no, no,
- 8:47Speaker 3: like it's a great, great series. Like it's dirty, guys,
- 8:50Speaker 3: are you know everybody's getting a little piece of skin
- 8:53Speaker 3: every shift. It's you know, you got the shechn brothers
- 8:55Speaker 3: hitting each other, running each other, trying to kill each other.
- 8:57Speaker 3: It's it's it's uh, it's been a it's been my
- 9:01Speaker 3: favorite series. And you know, the most positive no for
- 9:04Speaker 3: Winnipeg is Connor Helbuck had a great game last game,
- 9:06Speaker 3: and you know, Saint Louis. I think through everything with
- 9:09Speaker 3: the kitchen sink, and I wouldn't be surprised if you
- 9:12Speaker 3: know Saint Louis goes over there and wins the next
- 9:14Speaker 3: two games, and then it's it's a tight series because
- 9:17Speaker 3: it could swing either side right now, and it's it's
- 9:20Speaker 3: been razor thin.
- 9:21Speaker 1: And a quick thought on the Leafs and the Senators
- 9:24Speaker 1: disappointed that Outawa. I mean they're able to bounce back
- 9:26Speaker 1: and tie it up and then an over ten the
- 9:27Speaker 1: Leafs win. But you still feel this there's a lot
- 9:29Speaker 1: of series left. I don't share your optimism. I hope
- 9:31Speaker 1: Odawa gets back in this thing, but I think the
- 9:32Speaker 1: Leafs are gonna win the series.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Now I call seven.
- 9:35Speaker 3: My whole my whole East prediction is just getting absolutely
- 9:38Speaker 3: just destroyed. I had descends, the Lightning, the Capitals and
- 9:43Speaker 3: the New Jersey Devils.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I'm just getting walked like a dog because take some risks,
- 9:48Speaker 1: you gotta take some chat. Well you have to because
- 9:50Speaker 1: everybody's taking care of line.
- 9:51Speaker 3: But for Toronto, listen, I think game one was horrendous,
- 9:56Speaker 3: horrendous penalty killing by the Ottawa Senators and horrible discipline.
- 10:01Speaker 3: They clean that up the discipline side of it. In
- 10:03Speaker 3: game two, but again they're penalty killed, they made no adjustments,
- 10:06Speaker 3: they got scored it again in like twelve seconds and
- 10:09Speaker 3: then they just kind of listen. Five on five they've
- 10:12Speaker 3: been the better team, but they just you know, when
- 10:15Speaker 3: you kind of it just feels like one of those
- 10:18Speaker 3: years for it's a different Toronto Maple Leafs team than
- 10:21Speaker 3: years past. I think, you know, Craig Berube has really
- 10:23Speaker 3: got them comfortable in tight games and you could just
- 10:26Speaker 3: see there there's more of a comfort level in the
- 10:28Speaker 3: Toronto Maple Leafs in those tight games than Ottawa Centers.
- 10:31Speaker 3: And chalk that up to inexperience. I mean, they have
- 10:33Speaker 3: twelve guys that haven't played in the playoff series, so
- 10:36Speaker 3: you could just see that inexperience creeping through and it's
- 10:39Speaker 3: gonna be an uphill battle. But you know, my question
- 10:41Speaker 3: is how many Toronto Maple Leafs fans are gonna be
- 10:44Speaker 3: at the Canadian entire Center.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Oh, you're gonna hear gole Leafs go right out of
- 10:47Speaker 2: the game. What do you think the number is? What's capacity?
- 10:50Speaker 2: Nineteen eight something like that.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Oh, I'd just say, like you can give a percentage
- 10:52Speaker 3: like twenty percent do you think forty? Yeah, they're doing
- 10:57Speaker 3: like everything they can to not allow this to happen, and.
- 11:00Speaker 2: It's virtually an impossibility.
- 11:02Speaker 3: I feel like that's such an indictment on the team,
- 11:05Speaker 3: and like where they have the rink and if that
- 11:07Speaker 3: is the case, Like what do you think the league
- 11:11Speaker 3: should step in and make sure that you can't sell
- 11:14Speaker 3: those tickets away? Because it's a great question.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I don't know how you dissuade them, Like, I don't
- 11:18Speaker 1: know how you enforce it, but I'm with you that
- 11:20Speaker 1: it's frustrating.
- 11:20Speaker 2: If I'm an Atawi Center, it's goin to a diehard
- 11:22Speaker 2: Sence fan.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I haven't seen my team in the playoffs and also
- 11:24Speaker 1: like Battle Ontario and all these leaves fans around me,
- 11:27Speaker 1: Like it's frustrating, But I have no idea how you
- 11:28Speaker 1: enforce that.
- 11:29Speaker 2: How do you tell what do you like? Do you
- 11:31Speaker 2: have a questionnaire? Your least fitner sends? People just lost?
- 11:33Speaker 1: I'm a sense fan, Sure give us great, Yeah, I
- 11:35Speaker 1: got I don't know how you do that.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Yeah, they have all this ship when you're trying to
- 11:37Speaker 3: get a mortgage, so it's like just kind of take
- 11:39Speaker 3: that same give me your you know, social security or
- 11:41Speaker 3: social whatever social insurance number in Canada, and give me
- 11:44Speaker 3: your you know, give me two place of residue utility bills. Yeah,
- 11:47Speaker 3: place of residence to utility bills from the last two months,
- 11:51Speaker 3: pay stubs, and then you could maybe get the game.
- 11:54Speaker 2: I guess that's true. You find it where these people live. Okay,
- 11:55Speaker 2: this guy's a new market. No, you're not allowed to play, can't.
- 11:58Speaker 2: It's an interesting thought.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Coaching carousel NHL regular season barely over, and also we
- 12:03Speaker 1: got moves being made.
- 12:04Speaker 2: The Ducks an ails. Head coach Greg Cronin is not returning.
- 12:07Speaker 1: The Ducks failed to make the playoffs both seasons under Cronin,
- 12:10Speaker 1: but have a lot of good young players, obviously that
- 12:12Speaker 1: mix Zegres among them.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Cutter go Cha.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Not long after Anaheims announced and the Rangers fire their
- 12:16Speaker 1: head coach, Peter Laviolette. That's why I think we all
- 12:19Speaker 1: kind of felt coming. It leads the Rangers the best
- 12:20Speaker 1: record in the league. Last year they underperformed in a
- 12:22Speaker 1: major way. Of course, you can't fire twenty five players.
- 12:24Speaker 1: You just fire the coach.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Rangers still have a ton of talent.
- 12:27Speaker 1: So I asked you this, would you rather if you
- 12:29Speaker 1: were a head coach out there, take the job of
- 12:31Speaker 1: the Rangers' sorry New York, major media market.
- 12:34Speaker 2: They have talent, they just underperformed.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Or would you rather be the head coach of the
- 12:37Speaker 1: Ducks obviously a smallish media market, Sunshine SoCal you can
- 12:41Speaker 1: grow with these young players, which when you think, is
- 12:43Speaker 1: a more attractive job.
- 12:44Speaker 3: I listen, No matter how much turbulence here is, it's
- 12:48Speaker 3: the Ranger in New York. It just has to be.
- 12:50Speaker 3: It's such an iconic building to coach in, such a
- 12:53Speaker 3: great legacy to be a part of. Now the teams,
- 12:57Speaker 3: I mean, I don't quite know if I think the
- 12:59Speaker 3: Ducks have a young enough team that would be fun
- 13:01Speaker 3: to come up with. I think they're right on the
- 13:02Speaker 3: cusp would be doing something really good. I'm a coach
- 13:04Speaker 3: and strategically trying to pick a place. It could be
- 13:07Speaker 3: the Ducks because I don't know where the Rangers go
- 13:09Speaker 3: from here and what they do and and what Chris
- 13:11Speaker 3: Sure is going to do there. But you know, for me,
- 13:14Speaker 3: it's it's hard to turn down the Rangers that they
- 13:16Speaker 3: come with Colin.
- 13:19Speaker 2: And ultimately we'll see who goes this opportunity.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Sorry, did you see the Bruins? Did you see their
- 13:25Speaker 3: press conference with km Neely. I did not love cam Neely.
- 13:29Speaker 3: They got skewered cam Neely and down Sweeney and cam
- 13:32Speaker 3: Neely lost his like lost his ship, kept it calm
- 13:35Speaker 3: and apparently I think he pulled in one of the
- 13:37Speaker 3: writers into the room after because like the guy didn't
- 13:40Speaker 3: ask a question he liked and I'm like, are.
- 13:41Speaker 1: You what do you what are you expecting starting to
- 13:45Speaker 1: revoke media credentials, maybe like you're not allowed to come
- 13:47Speaker 1: here anymore if you asked me tough questions like that, what.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Are you expecting? The just the the ship show it
- 13:53Speaker 3: was this season and not take hard questions, you know.
- 13:56Speaker 3: But anyway, I just saw that. I was like kind
- 13:58Speaker 3: of laughing because cam Neely is like, like the camp
- 14:00Speaker 3: counts are like, come here after the meeting.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Love Kim Nearly the actor. I'll tell you that we
- 14:06Speaker 2: saw Dan Biosma let.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Go, Yes, very good, uh Dan Bosma let go? And
- 14:13Speaker 1: Seattle just one season with the Kraken Ron Francis tals
- 14:16Speaker 1: Guy elevated team president, replacing the GMC by Jason Bottrel
- 14:20Speaker 1: Biso want a Cup in Pittsburgh. Tremendous success with Seattle's
- 14:23Speaker 1: HL to me at Coachella, Valley Love Coachella.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Do you think Bosma got a raw deal here?
- 14:29Speaker 3: I have no idea what Seattle's doing. It's like they
- 14:32Speaker 3: have They're just it is crazy what they're doing, And
- 14:35Speaker 3: I don't know what direction they're trying to go. Why
- 14:38Speaker 3: is Bilsma the one getting kicked out and then nobody
- 14:41Speaker 3: else when you know, there's a lot of rumors that
- 14:44Speaker 3: when Biosma wasn't the higher that Ron France has wanted
- 14:48Speaker 3: and he didn't want to bring any of that coaching
- 14:50Speaker 3: staff up. So it's interesting to me that this is
- 14:54Speaker 3: what happens in his hand, maybe gets forced and then
- 14:57Speaker 3: Bottrel comes in and I'm just at a loss, you know.
- 15:00Speaker 3: I think it's so tough because we compare them to
- 15:03Speaker 3: Vegas the Golden Knight and as a you know, expansion team,
- 15:07Speaker 3: and Vegas kind of just had their way and no
- 15:09Speaker 3: one really knew what they were doing in GMing and
- 15:11Speaker 3: how to kind of protect players. And I feel like
- 15:13Speaker 3: Seattle just had the raw and of the deal from
- 15:14Speaker 3: the start and they just haven't developed an identity. And
- 15:17Speaker 3: I just think there's top to bottom ownership, there's there
- 15:20Speaker 3: isn't a clear understanding of which direction they want to go,
- 15:23Speaker 3: and unfortunately, like you said, you the head coach is
- 15:27Speaker 3: typically the guy with his head on the chopping block,
- 15:29Speaker 3: and it has been tough sledding the past three years
- 15:31Speaker 3: for head coaches in the NHL. You are absolutely on
- 15:35Speaker 3: borrowed time when you were getting brought in, because it's crazy.
- 15:40Speaker 3: These guys are getting a year to prove themselves and
- 15:42Speaker 3: then they're fired.
- 15:43Speaker 2: I like the point that E. J.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Roddick was making with you on NHL ton My first Ship,
- 15:46Speaker 1: which is that Seattle's the victim of Vegas because Vegas
- 15:50Speaker 1: comes in as a franchise a right of the gate.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Bam winning a Stanley Cup within a few seasons of
- 15:54Speaker 1: his infancy at Contender. We all know the rules got
- 15:56Speaker 1: changed as far as towards the expansion draft what kind
- 15:59Speaker 1: of talent you can take? But he goes, as he
- 16:00Speaker 1: just said, there's blood in the water, like there's sharks.
- 16:02Speaker 1: See how they're contented it, Like what are you looking for?
- 16:03Speaker 1: Like what kind of what's your identity? Like what is
- 16:06Speaker 1: the Seattle Crackett? So I think that's part of this
- 16:08Speaker 1: that you said, why can't you be like those guys?
- 16:10Speaker 1: And for Ronnie Francis, you get promoted, and Bottle will
- 16:13Speaker 1: generally the second time you have that kind of a job,
- 16:15Speaker 1: you improved. But I'm with you, what's the identity of
- 16:17Speaker 1: the Seattle Crackett? If I said to a number of
- 16:19Speaker 1: NHL teams, any sport, whatever their identity is, If I
- 16:21Speaker 1: say cracking like, what do you think of I'm like,
- 16:23Speaker 1: there's really nothing that comes to mind right now.
- 16:25Speaker 3: So it's three lines of second line players. They don't
- 16:30Speaker 3: have a face of the franchise yet. They have not
- 16:32Speaker 3: gotten one. They've kind of tried to have Joy Decord
- 16:35Speaker 3: maybe potentially be that and ascended to that.
- 16:38Speaker 2: But Matdi Beneers isn't that guy they thought Matti.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Beneers isn't He isn't He isn't Yetty, I think he
- 16:43Speaker 3: had a down, you know. I just Jerry can't ask
- 16:46Speaker 3: Jared McCann to be that guy. You know, Brandon Montur,
- 16:48Speaker 3: You got these guys they need to face to the franchise.
- 16:51Speaker 3: They maybe thought Shane Wright would be that and it
- 16:53Speaker 3: just hasn't panned out. He's he's developed into a second
- 16:56Speaker 3: third line player, but I don't think he's going to
- 16:58Speaker 3: be a stud that everybody thinks he's going to be
- 17:00Speaker 3: so yeah, it's it's again. It's just they got to
- 17:02Speaker 3: take a swing in free agency, take a gosh darn swing,
- 17:06Speaker 3: and just if it works, it works, and if not,
- 17:09Speaker 3: I mean, just fucking rebuild Cares.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I'm with you, that's well said the second line players
- 17:14Speaker 1: who there's no stars in that team. One last thought,
- 17:16Speaker 1: Philadelphia head coach Rick Tckett makes too much sense. Leave
- 17:20Speaker 1: Vancouver former Flyer great with Jonesy, Danny Breer, you win
- 17:24Speaker 1: the fans over, talk it to Philly, Let's go.
- 17:27Speaker 3: I can't. I cannot speak on Tacket because everybody will
- 17:31Speaker 3: consider it bias. But uh, I mean one winning season
- 17:35Speaker 3: in the past, you know, as a head coach one
- 17:37Speaker 3: or two, and the teams were was kind of gifted
- 17:41Speaker 3: to him in Vancouver in terms of everything was in
- 17:43Speaker 3: the right direction for him. I don't know if this
- 17:46Speaker 3: is the guy you bring in a Flyers. I guess
- 17:49Speaker 3: the history of it. I would more see him potentially
- 17:52Speaker 3: wanting to go to like an Anaheim, because you know,
- 17:56Speaker 3: I think he's got family, some family or his his
- 17:58Speaker 3: his wife are significnificant others out there, and I think
- 18:01Speaker 3: it's a like I said, I think Anaheim's on the
- 18:04Speaker 3: cut of being. If I'm a coach, I'm looking at
- 18:06Speaker 3: that team like, hmm, I could really step into something
- 18:08Speaker 3: nice for years to come because you're gonna build with
- 18:11Speaker 3: them versus you know, Philly again it's another team. Like,
- 18:14Speaker 3: you know, you got Meetchkoff, You got a lot of
- 18:16Speaker 3: small guys. Who's the star? Is it Meetchkoff? Is it
- 18:20Speaker 3: can Gravis Sanhaim? You got no goaltending, You got to
- 18:23Speaker 3: address that. They got a lot of time to go
- 18:26Speaker 3: and just talk it. Want to do that and be
- 18:30Speaker 3: a part of that? Or does he want to maybe
- 18:32Speaker 3: be a part of a winning culture. And because he's
- 18:35Speaker 3: done that, you know, he's he's been in the playoffs
- 18:37Speaker 3: twice as a head coach, so I think he wants
- 18:38Speaker 3: to be on a team that's going to go far.
- 18:39Speaker 3: I don't think he wants to go and develop anybody
- 18:41Speaker 3: because he had us in Arizona and it was a
- 18:43Speaker 3: project sort of speak. And then he goes this year
- 18:46Speaker 3: and it's an absolute nightmare with the JT. Miller stuff
- 18:49Speaker 3: and Rutherford has no idea what he's doing coming from
- 18:52Speaker 3: his press conference. Nothing against him, yeah, but like that
- 18:55Speaker 3: press conference, if I'm a Vancouver Canucks man, I'm like, wait,
- 18:58Speaker 3: Quinn Hughes is leaving or we're getting Jack Hughes and
- 19:00Speaker 3: Luke Qes. I'm like, what what seems like? It seems
- 19:04Speaker 3: like Bessent just messing with the stock market right now,
- 19:08Speaker 3: just saying tariffs are on, tariffs are off.
- 19:11Speaker 2: More tariffs is killing the stocks. Just what a disaster?
- 19:15Speaker 3: Oh, just they're on, they're off, they're on, they're off.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Hoo.
- 19:19Speaker 3: That's what Rutherfords scene like. I was like, I came
- 19:21Speaker 3: out of there. I was like, I think we're we're
- 19:24Speaker 3: doing NHL now and as me and Brian Boyle and
- 19:26Speaker 3: we read like you know, they Lauren Gardner read the
- 19:29Speaker 3: tweet about Rutherford what he said in his comments, and
- 19:33Speaker 3: Boiler's like, I'm so confused right now. And I was like,
- 19:36Speaker 3: I don't know what's going on. If I'm Quinn use
- 19:40Speaker 3: him calling, be like, get me the hell out of
- 19:42Speaker 3: here now. So if I would talk, I want to
- 19:44Speaker 3: stay there. I don't think you would.
- 19:45Speaker 2: No, I'm with you on that.
- 19:46Speaker 1: University of Denver head coach David Carl by the way
- 19:48Speaker 1: geting a lot of talk Boshing University coach j pandolfha
- 19:51Speaker 1: former Devil of course he's at the top may list
- 19:53Speaker 1: as well, so who knows those guys will get the call?
- 19:55Speaker 1: Coming up next here on NHL inscripted Brad Richardson, it
- 19:58Speaker 1: was an awesome interview and I can't wait to listen
- 20:01Speaker 1: to it.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Like all of you. It's next here in NHL and scripted.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Ladies and Gentlemen, our guest this week fifth round pick
- 20:20Speaker 3: to the Colorado Avalanche in two thousand and three, went
- 20:23Speaker 3: on to play eight hundred and sixty nine games for
- 20:26Speaker 3: the Avalanche, the Kings, the Canucks, the Coyotes, the Preds,
- 20:29Speaker 3: and the Flames, and he won a Cup in LA
- 20:31Speaker 3: in twenty twelve. And most importantly, he was my landlord
- 20:35Speaker 3: when I had hives. Brad Richardson, Ladies and gentlemen.
- 20:39Speaker 5: Thanks, I was going on intro jay, Oh my god,
- 20:42Speaker 5: nice thanks for having me on. But yes, you did
- 20:44Speaker 5: have hives and you were in quarantine for about a
- 20:46Speaker 5: month in my guest bedroom.
- 20:47Speaker 6: So that was a really fun time with me and
- 20:49Speaker 6: my daughter. We loved it. He's sweating like a pig.
- 20:54Speaker 3: This is tal here.
- 20:56Speaker 4: I have to interject add, no, one couldn't make it
- 20:58Speaker 4: for the interview, but I have to ask.
- 20:59Speaker 3: I feel like there's more to this story.
- 21:01Speaker 4: So far we have we have landlord, daughter and hives,
- 21:05Speaker 4: so there's got to be a little bit more to this.
- 21:07Speaker 5: I'm thinking, Well, Jay k got traded here, and you
- 21:10Speaker 5: know he's looking for a soft, soft spot to land so,
- 21:14Speaker 5: you know, the good the guy that I am, you know,
- 21:16Speaker 5: I helped him out and took him in and then
- 21:18Speaker 5: he gets sick as a dog. He's got hives going.
- 21:20Speaker 5: I don't know he's so he basically quarantine him in
- 21:22Speaker 5: our guest bedroom to keep him away from my daughter
- 21:23Speaker 5: so she doesn't get he doesn't get her sick and
- 21:26Speaker 5: all this stuff. So he was sweating, and he said
- 21:28Speaker 5: I was trying to sweat him out of there because
- 21:29Speaker 5: I kept it.
- 21:30Speaker 6: Didn't want to turn the air conditioning on too cool
- 21:32Speaker 6: for him.
- 21:32Speaker 3: Well, he's the classic dad, you know, he's he you
- 21:35Speaker 3: cannot touch the thermostat and he's got that thing to
- 21:37Speaker 3: a body. He's got it on energy saver and he
- 21:40Speaker 3: just I'm in the bedroom, just leak.
- 21:43Speaker 6: And a nice sultry seventy five.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Just down to my plums. But no, let's go back
- 21:52Speaker 3: to the start here a little bit. When he came
- 21:53Speaker 3: into the league with the Avalanche. I know't even talked
- 21:55Speaker 3: about it, but it's crazy. You know, when I came
- 21:59Speaker 3: into the league in San Jose, I had some unbelievable veterans,
- 22:01Speaker 3: some legends of the game. And I mean, but you
- 22:03Speaker 3: had Joe sack Rob Blake, Brunette, Heyduke, Ian Leperier, Patrese Breese,
- 22:09Speaker 3: Bought Dan hy Note, Bob Bugner, Like how was that
- 22:12Speaker 3: as a young guy coming into that locker room?
- 22:15Speaker 1: It was?
- 22:16Speaker 5: It was honestly so nerve wracking, Like Joe Sackett goes
- 22:19Speaker 5: my IDOL favorite player. But just going back jay on that,
- 22:22Speaker 5: like I got draft in two thousand and three, in
- 22:23Speaker 5: my first training camp, they signed Slane and Korea added
- 22:26Speaker 5: that to that mix. So my and pat and Patty
- 22:29Speaker 5: wat was there when it was so I literally go,
- 22:31Speaker 5: I couldn't even.
- 22:32Speaker 6: Speak, couldn't skate.
- 22:33Speaker 5: I was so nervous, and uh, you know it was
- 22:35Speaker 5: in an error where those guys were a little more
- 22:37Speaker 5: intimidating and not as friendly as I don't think players
- 22:39Speaker 5: are today. You know, everyone was, you know, it was
- 22:42Speaker 5: an old guys league kind of at that point, so
- 22:44Speaker 5: breaking in it was a little heart But I mean
- 22:46Speaker 5: my first year, I actually played. I got called up
- 22:49Speaker 5: kind of like twenty five games into the season, and
- 22:52Speaker 5: then after Christmas, Bobby Bugger I get a place finally,
- 22:54Speaker 5: you know, they give you get Richie, go get a place,
- 22:56Speaker 5: and Bobby Bogner's family goes back to Windsor. So Bobby
- 22:58Speaker 5: Bogner's like, I'm moving in with you. I'm like, Bobby,
- 23:02Speaker 5: you're thirty eight years old.
- 23:03Speaker 6: I'm twenty. You're not moving in. He's like, oh, I'm
- 23:05Speaker 6: coming in.
- 23:06Speaker 5: So he moved in with me, and he'd be so
- 23:09Speaker 5: sorry the dogs are barking, but he'd be smoking, Like
- 23:12Speaker 5: no offense, Bobby, but he'd be smoking cigarettes after practice,
- 23:14Speaker 5: and shit, I'm.
- 23:15Speaker 6: Like, what is going on in this league? So it
- 23:17Speaker 6: was a good eye opening to the NHL.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Welcome to the NHL, Bob Bogner hacking darts a couple lefties.
- 23:24Speaker 3: But I mean I had that with Colin White my
- 23:26Speaker 3: first year, like was not with his family. And I
- 23:28Speaker 3: don't think people realize that when you get these guys
- 23:30Speaker 3: like older in their career that don't want to bring
- 23:33Speaker 3: their families, don't want to take their kids out of school,
- 23:35Speaker 3: and it's almost like it for these young kids. It's
- 23:39Speaker 3: especially for yourself. You're probably so grateful later on that
- 23:41Speaker 3: you had that experience because it's just like you get
- 23:45Speaker 3: to learn about the league from like the eyes of
- 23:47Speaker 3: a guy that's been through it, like the old war vet.
- 23:50Speaker 5: Yeah, but it's a good point Jay like for me,
- 23:52Speaker 5: like doing that, it kind of got me more involved
- 23:54Speaker 5: and got me out of my like little ball. You know,
- 23:56Speaker 5: you're nervous and shy, like especially I was my first
- 23:59Speaker 5: you know a couple of years where you didn't want
- 24:00Speaker 5: to say much and Boogie like really helped me out
- 24:03Speaker 5: kind of get out of that mold, like it's okay
- 24:05Speaker 5: to be yourself, It's okay to like he kind of
- 24:07Speaker 5: showed me like how to have a little bit of
- 24:08Speaker 5: fun and go out and go for nice dinners, and
- 24:11Speaker 5: he like really kind of helped me out.
- 24:12Speaker 6: Him and in the Perrier Dana High Note were really
- 24:14Speaker 6: great with me.
- 24:15Speaker 5: Joe was great with me, but like take me out
- 24:17Speaker 5: for dinners and Andrew Burnette take me out for beers
- 24:19Speaker 5: and dinner on the road, Like you know, they didn't
- 24:21Speaker 5: have to invite you know, me out as kind of
- 24:23Speaker 5: a young twenty year old, really green rookie, but they
- 24:26Speaker 5: really didn't, and it kind of made me feel good.
- 24:27Speaker 6: And you know, me and you playing together.
- 24:29Speaker 5: We tried to do that with young guys as well,
- 24:30Speaker 5: I think, so I think it kind of paid it
- 24:32Speaker 5: forward a little bit and I learned some pretty good
- 24:34Speaker 5: values early on about how hard the league is and
- 24:37Speaker 5: but also how to have fun and balance it.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Give me, give me quickly, your best other than him
- 24:44Speaker 3: smoking Dart's your best Bob Bogner story.
- 24:47Speaker 6: Oh, I mean, man, oh man, that's put me on
- 24:49Speaker 6: the spot.
- 24:49Speaker 5: Jay, Like, he is one of the biggest characters in hockey,
- 24:53Speaker 5: and he's gotta be honest and some of the stuff
- 24:55Speaker 5: I obviously it's like stuff.
- 24:56Speaker 6: That you know only teammates can know.
- 24:58Speaker 5: But like he was just he was retiring that year,
- 25:01Speaker 5: so he bought the windsor Spitfires his last year in
- 25:03Speaker 5: the league, you know.
- 25:04Speaker 6: The Ohl team.
- 25:05Speaker 5: So so he was like, I'm done, and he wasn't
- 25:07Speaker 5: playing much like Joe Quinville for some reason just kind
- 25:10Speaker 5: of had a distaste for him, but he didn't play much.
- 25:13Speaker 6: So he was like on you know, the freedom retirement tour.
- 25:15Speaker 5: So that was a tough balance for me because if
- 25:18Speaker 5: Bob Bugner says do something, you're gonna do it. Yeah,
- 25:21Speaker 5: so I was probably going out a little too much,
- 25:24Speaker 5: and you know, that's that's here, no there. But we
- 25:27Speaker 5: were having a lot of fun as a twenty year
- 25:28Speaker 5: old running around with a guy that played in the
- 25:29Speaker 5: league and was a captain of the Flames and had
- 25:32Speaker 5: a really good career.
- 25:32Speaker 6: And now he's owning a junior team. It was kind
- 25:34Speaker 6: of surreal.
- 25:35Speaker 5: And then even the next year when he brought me in,
- 25:38Speaker 5: he was he was I was at we were playing
- 25:39Speaker 5: Detroit in a preseason game, and me and Brad May
- 25:42Speaker 5: He's like, let's go visit Boogie because he was across
- 25:44Speaker 5: the river and windsor So we went in and like,
- 25:46Speaker 5: he's to see him coaching a team now and owning
- 25:48Speaker 5: a junior team was pretty surreal.
- 25:49Speaker 6: We're in the dressing room.
- 25:50Speaker 5: I'm only like a year older than these guys, yea,
- 25:53Speaker 5: And we're like doing his speech and he's doing his thing,
- 25:55Speaker 5: and you know, he was telling some stories that you
- 25:58Speaker 5: would tell, like funny junior stories, but I just there
- 26:01Speaker 5: was not one in particular, but I just loved, you know,
- 26:04Speaker 5: how he went about his business and he became you know,
- 26:05Speaker 5: he went on to be a great owner of the
- 26:07Speaker 5: team and good angel coach and yeah, but.
- 26:10Speaker 3: Yeah, so you go through Colorado, you end up getting
- 26:15Speaker 3: dealt to Los Angeles and that's kind of where the
- 26:19Speaker 3: crux of your career happened. And I mean, was it
- 26:22Speaker 3: Darryl Sutter that was kind of the the catalyst to
- 26:26Speaker 3: that or was it just the perfect mix of guys
- 26:29Speaker 3: because you know, you guys just had such a good
- 26:31Speaker 3: you also had a great dynamic, like the chemistry in
- 26:33Speaker 3: that room. You know, seeing you guys now mostly all retired,
- 26:37Speaker 3: still hanging out, connecting and going on the reunions, it
- 26:40Speaker 3: is really cool to see. But was Darryl Sutter kind
- 26:42Speaker 3: of the guy that put it all together?
- 26:45Speaker 5: To be honest, like Daryl probably put the final toppings on,
- 26:47Speaker 5: you know, like maybe, but Terry Murray was the guy
- 26:49Speaker 5: there when we all got went there for two or
- 26:51Speaker 5: three years and then he got fired the year we
- 26:53Speaker 5: actually won and we just got off to a really
- 26:55Speaker 5: bad start. But he was kind of the guy that
- 26:56Speaker 5: put the foundation of defense. First Bill from Goalie out,
- 27:00Speaker 5: we protect the house kind of thing, and that's, you know,
- 27:02Speaker 5: that was our mainstay. We didn't give up a lot
- 27:04Speaker 5: and he kind of instilled that in a young group
- 27:06Speaker 5: that we have to play defense if we want to
- 27:08Speaker 5: win and team first. And then you know, he didn't
- 27:10Speaker 5: get a lot of credit because he got fired and
- 27:12Speaker 5: then Daryl comes into one, but they were both did
- 27:14Speaker 5: They're separate things, but that was kind of the foundation,
- 27:17Speaker 5: I believe, and then Darrel came in and kind of
- 27:19Speaker 5: took us over there, took us over the edge.
- 27:22Speaker 4: Yeah, Brad, I had a couple of quick things about
- 27:24Speaker 4: the Kings. We mentioned Darryl. I'm curious how you describe
- 27:26Speaker 4: his coaching style? Would that would that fly today?
- 27:30Speaker 2: Artass?
- 27:30Speaker 4: Can Can he get a job in today's NHL with
- 27:33Speaker 4: the style he's known for?
- 27:35Speaker 5: Well, he did win the Coach of the Year what
- 27:37Speaker 5: two years ago? So and then got fired the year after.
- 27:40Speaker 5: You know what I mean, it's coaching is crazy, you know.
- 27:42Speaker 5: So Dan Belisma just got fired after one year in Seattle,
- 27:45Speaker 5: Like it's it's such a crazy job. But Darryl Sutter
- 27:48Speaker 5: to me, I mean, he's like a He's like a
- 27:50Speaker 5: grandfather to me, honestly, Like I love him more than anything.
- 27:54Speaker 6: He's such a good person.
- 27:55Speaker 5: But he also hate him, you know, Like he he's
- 27:57Speaker 5: so hard and some days you just really want to
- 27:59Speaker 5: fight him. Honestly, and then other days you're like, oh god,
- 28:01Speaker 5: you're such a great person and you give a hug.
- 28:03Speaker 5: But he taught me a lot about digging in and
- 28:06Speaker 5: just kind of how to be like a man, to
- 28:07Speaker 5: be honest. And yeah, he knows hockey. He knows how
- 28:11Speaker 5: to get the best out of his players. He saw,
- 28:13Speaker 5: like in Calgary, he got the most out of his guys.
- 28:15Speaker 5: L A, he got the most out of us. He
- 28:17Speaker 5: has he does wear on you, let's be honest, so
- 28:19Speaker 5: the shelf life, you know, guys like eventually you're kind
- 28:22Speaker 5: of like enough.
- 28:24Speaker 6: But he does know how to get the most.
- 28:26Speaker 5: Like his teams in Calgary when they went to the
- 28:28Speaker 5: finals and lost the Tampa I think it oh too.
- 28:30Speaker 6: They had no business.
- 28:31Speaker 5: Being there, No, but they just were all characters, love
- 28:34Speaker 5: each other and they played the right way and they
- 28:36Speaker 5: were They actually pretty much won the cup, but they
- 28:38Speaker 5: got screwed on that no goal. But that's how his
- 28:43Speaker 5: teams are. They just they're gritty and he knows how
- 28:44Speaker 5: to gets He knows how to squeeze every every ounce
- 28:46Speaker 5: of juice out of him.
- 28:48Speaker 4: And just another thing about the Kings, you were there
- 28:50Speaker 4: when a babyface kid named Drew Dowdy came into the league,
- 28:54Speaker 4: they mean a fat faced kid. He wasn't the mayor
- 28:59Speaker 4: of Manhattan Beach just yet. But what was your what
- 29:02Speaker 4: was your early impression of him? And could you tell
- 29:04Speaker 4: right way this this kid was going to be a stud?
- 29:06Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 29:06Speaker 5: You know, yeah it was that first year I got
- 29:08Speaker 5: traded there and he came in as a second overall pick,
- 29:10Speaker 5: and I had no clue early who he was, but
- 29:13Speaker 5: he I found out pretty quick he was. He was
- 29:15Speaker 5: a little, like I said, he still has baby fat, right, So,
- 29:18Speaker 5: like he came from a junior situation where and he
- 29:20Speaker 5: played in golf where he like he didn't really eat great.
- 29:22Speaker 5: He never thought about working out, He never did any
- 29:24Speaker 5: of that stuff.
- 29:24Speaker 6: It was just natural.
- 29:26Speaker 5: So he came in and honestly, first training camp I
- 29:27Speaker 5: went to hit him, like, fuck this rookie, and I
- 29:30Speaker 5: literally got put on my ass because he's he was
- 29:32Speaker 5: stronger in his skates and thicker than I thought.
- 29:36Speaker 6: But he just developed that first year. I mean, I
- 29:37Speaker 6: couldn't believe how good he was.
- 29:39Speaker 5: Like he was our best defenseman at eighteen years old,
- 29:42Speaker 5: so and you knew we were into something special.
- 29:46Speaker 6: But he's the best guy.
- 29:47Speaker 5: He's the goofiest guy on the planet, never stops smiling,
- 29:51Speaker 5: always down for a laugh, like one of my really
- 29:53Speaker 5: good friends.
- 29:53Speaker 6: And there's not too many like him left in the league.
- 29:56Speaker 6: Let's be honest.
- 29:57Speaker 3: How when he came into the to the dressing room
- 30:00Speaker 3: his first year was he is he the same as
- 30:03Speaker 3: he was then as he is now, like just kind
- 30:05Speaker 3: of you know, so outspoken and and you know in
- 30:08Speaker 3: the media, you see Hi when he's talking about it,
- 30:09Speaker 3: you know the last game, NOI He's like, yeah, we
- 30:11Speaker 3: played a shit game, but we pulled it up. Like
- 30:12Speaker 3: was he like that young and did it kind of
- 30:15Speaker 3: rub anybody the wrong way? No?
- 30:17Speaker 5: He really, he's never changed to me, Like he never
- 30:21Speaker 5: rubbed anything wrong wrong way because he was He's honest.
- 30:23Speaker 5: But he's like so like not a I don't want
- 30:25Speaker 5: to say a loof because he's super smart, intelligent, but
- 30:27Speaker 5: like he just has his personalities like bubbly and.
- 30:29Speaker 6: You just want to be around him. So he's like
- 30:31Speaker 6: so innocent, but it's hard, you know what I mean.
- 30:34Speaker 5: He's just a guy, like fun loving, easygoing guy, like
- 30:37Speaker 5: he just loves life and loves laughing, and he like
- 30:40Speaker 5: I've never seen a guy playing hockey laughing while he's
- 30:42Speaker 5: playing sometimes like he's really he's really intense and petter,
- 30:44Speaker 5: but he loves he's always like messing around and like
- 30:46Speaker 5: he enjoys playing hockey. So really competitive, but like it's
- 30:50Speaker 5: fun to see a guy that really really smiles out there.
- 30:53Speaker 3: When when you guys won that cup. What's your from
- 30:55Speaker 3: that kind of cup run and the post, you know,
- 30:58Speaker 3: the celebrations afterwards. What was your favorite like celebrity meat
- 31:03Speaker 3: that you got and like and favorite celebrity story from that.
- 31:06Speaker 3: You don't have to get into the details because leave
- 31:08Speaker 3: it for the birds, but like what was your celebrity
- 31:11Speaker 3: link up?
- 31:11Speaker 6: Like one quick one?
- 31:12Speaker 5: Like I mean, we had a lot of people hanging around,
- 31:15Speaker 5: like which was really fun and it.
- 31:17Speaker 6: Was cool to have.
- 31:18Speaker 5: Like it was cool because you know they come down
- 31:19Speaker 5: and like they want to like say hi, do you
- 31:20Speaker 5: after and it made you feel good and that everyone
- 31:23Speaker 5: was caring.
- 31:23Speaker 6: About it so much. But probably the one it was
- 31:25Speaker 6: kind of like a weird night.
- 31:26Speaker 5: We had a copy We had a party and like
- 31:29Speaker 5: just a kind of a friends and family party and
- 31:31Speaker 5: then we were going to this place called Beacher's Madhouse.
- 31:32Speaker 5: It's at the Roosevelt and really cool spot back in
- 31:35Speaker 5: the day and we're walking in.
- 31:37Speaker 6: We had David Beckham with.
- 31:38Speaker 5: Us, and he was like we were just shooting the ship,
- 31:40Speaker 5: walking in me and him, and he doesn't They don't
- 31:43Speaker 5: let him in.
- 31:44Speaker 6: No, I swear to God. So I'm like, what the
- 31:47Speaker 6: hell's going on?
- 31:48Speaker 5: We walk in like just like we're David Beckham, but
- 31:50Speaker 5: he gets shut down. I couldn't believe it, so that
- 31:52Speaker 5: I had to get David Beckham in the in the
- 31:53Speaker 5: Beach's madhouse.
- 31:55Speaker 3: That's nice.
- 31:56Speaker 6: So that was like, you know, feather in my cap.
- 31:57Speaker 6: I'm like, fucky, you know, pretty good tonight. But it
- 32:00Speaker 6: was it was kind of like that.
- 32:02Speaker 3: It was.
- 32:02Speaker 6: That was a funny one, but there were so many people.
- 32:05Speaker 5: I'm actually staying at Roosevelt tonight, so I'm a little
- 32:07Speaker 5: reminiscent kicking in right now.
- 32:10Speaker 3: I mean, so when we played you guys that year,
- 32:13Speaker 3: I'm I always waited out in the hallway before we
- 32:15Speaker 3: went on the ice before every period. So I'm out
- 32:17Speaker 3: there before we go out for the first period. So
- 32:19Speaker 3: I'm sitting there and I'm getting ready and I see
- 32:21Speaker 3: these two kids walk by me and they're like, hey,
- 32:23Speaker 3: what's up. They're wearing King's jerseys, They're high five, and
- 32:25Speaker 3: I'm like, hey, kids, what's up. So there's nobody else
- 32:27Speaker 3: out there but me and the PR guy. Yeah, all
- 32:29Speaker 3: of a sudden, I see this the dad walk by it.
- 32:31Speaker 3: It's David Beckham and he goes, hey, what's up mate?
- 32:33Speaker 3: And I'm like, oh, what's up? Are you doing?
- 32:36Speaker 2: Dave?
- 32:37Speaker 3: He's like, hey, can And this is like a minute
- 32:39Speaker 3: before we go in the ice and the coaches are
- 32:41Speaker 3: about to walk out, and he's like, hey, can I
- 32:42Speaker 3: my kids get a picture with you? And I'm like,
- 32:45Speaker 3: and I'm looking at the PR guy and the PR
- 32:47Speaker 3: guy's like kind of hands up, and I'm like, yeah,
- 32:49Speaker 3: let's do quick, Let's do it quick. So I was
- 32:51Speaker 3: like sitting there, I'm like taking a picture and I'm like,
- 32:53Speaker 3: you don't even realize. That's what's cool about the Kings
- 32:55Speaker 3: is that, like the celebs are such fans and like
- 32:59Speaker 3: these guys that are larger than life characters like Beckah
- 33:01Speaker 3: who was an athlete, or these die hard hockey fans
- 33:04Speaker 3: because of you guys.
- 33:05Speaker 6: Yeah, no, you're right, that's that's a funny story. But
- 33:08Speaker 6: you would have got in trouble for that. I'm sure
- 33:09Speaker 6: if they would have stop, if Dar would have saw
- 33:10Speaker 6: that you would have been playing.
- 33:14Speaker 5: Yeah, No, it was cool and obviously it built too,
- 33:16Speaker 5: Like there was always a strong fan base in LA obviously,
- 33:19Speaker 5: but it's just like that momentum of us just grew
- 33:22Speaker 5: it now to what it is and it was really
- 33:24Speaker 5: cool to see.
- 33:25Speaker 3: Yeah for sure, Jay, what uh, what's your take before
- 33:28Speaker 3: we continue kind on you? What's your take on the
- 33:30Speaker 3: Kings and what they're capable of doing and what they're
- 33:33Speaker 3: building right now?
- 33:35Speaker 5: I really, I mean I think what they're building it
- 33:38Speaker 5: reminds me a lot of our teams from back in
- 33:40Speaker 5: the day. Yeah, like the stingy stingy, like if you
- 33:43Speaker 5: looked at them all year as a whole, not last game.
- 33:45Speaker 5: But really they want to be They have a pretty
- 33:47Speaker 5: strong goaltender in Camps who we both played with.
- 33:49Speaker 6: When he's on, he's really good.
- 33:51Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you know so.
- 33:52Speaker 5: And then their defense is stingy and they're trying to
- 33:55Speaker 5: play that defense. First hound, you hound, you hound, and
- 33:57Speaker 5: then and then let's go when we get a chance.
- 33:59Speaker 6: But I like the team. They got a lot of depth.
- 34:02Speaker 6: They made some really good moves.
- 34:03Speaker 5: Like to be honest, like I talked to like some
- 34:05Speaker 5: of their guys when they brought Kuzmenka win.
- 34:07Speaker 6: I'm like a man, he's a little goofy. I don't know,
- 34:09Speaker 6: you know, and he's.
- 34:10Speaker 5: Played really well. Yeah, he's kind of fitting perfectly with him.
- 34:13Speaker 5: You know, I don't know how this series is gonna.
- 34:16Speaker 5: I picked them to win because they had home ice
- 34:17Speaker 5: and they put him playing really well. All the oilers
- 34:19Speaker 5: a little banged up and don't love their back end.
- 34:21Speaker 5: But you know it's gonna be a good series because
- 34:24Speaker 5: obviously he saw how good mcdamon and Driyce Ottle are
- 34:26Speaker 5: so well.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they played forty perfect minutes and then
- 34:30Speaker 3: you you can't play much minutes.
- 34:34Speaker 6: And McDavid gets four points.
- 34:35Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 34:36Speaker 5: There was so much day there's someone interviewed, Someone interviewed
- 34:40Speaker 5: what's the deno after? And he was checking McDavid most nights.
- 34:43Speaker 5: I almost fell off my couch. He said to him,
- 34:46Speaker 5: He goes, you held McDavid in check for the most part.
- 34:49Speaker 5: I'm like, he had four points. I don't know if
- 34:52Speaker 5: you guys know that, but.
- 34:53Speaker 2: That was the question.
- 34:54Speaker 6: And that's a good that was like, he actually did
- 34:55Speaker 6: play pretty good against him. That's the funny thing.
- 34:58Speaker 5: You played good against someone he gets four points still, Yeah,
- 35:01Speaker 5: that's that's how good he is.
- 35:03Speaker 3: If you I remember when we used to play against him,
- 35:05Speaker 3: We're like, if he gets a point, it's like you
- 35:08Speaker 3: won the Stanley Cup, because you're yeah, that's like an
- 35:10Speaker 3: off night for him as well.
- 35:11Speaker 5: I know that's what the reporter said, Yeah, Helman check
- 35:14Speaker 5: pre you play him pretty good tonight, Like I don't know,
- 35:16Speaker 5: he just exploded in the third and almost took the game.
- 35:19Speaker 3: But anyway, I know, you gotta get to La so
- 35:21Speaker 3: I got one more And it's more an overarching I
- 35:24Speaker 3: know you talked a lot about the J. T. Miller stuff,
- 35:26Speaker 3: the feud and Van and you're hearing all this stuff
- 35:29Speaker 3: come out of Van now with with Rutherford talking. I mean,
- 35:31Speaker 3: I couldn't even understand a word he was saying in
- 35:33Speaker 3: that last press conference, Like do you think that's more
- 35:36Speaker 3: of a fall on because you know, we talked so
- 35:38Speaker 3: much about the players and how they you know, in
- 35:41Speaker 3: the locker room, But do you think it's a management
- 35:43Speaker 3: issue of not understanding and having a heartbeat of that
- 35:46Speaker 3: locker room and kind of how they mishandled that from
- 35:48Speaker 3: jumping it should have been shouldn't have should have been
- 35:51Speaker 3: addressed years ago yeah.
- 35:54Speaker 5: I mean, Jay, I was only there for like what
- 35:56Speaker 5: thirty games, But it doesn't take me long to read
- 35:58Speaker 5: a room and know what You've.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Got a pulse, like you understand the locker room.
- 36:02Speaker 5: And I told, like literally, I was retiring at the
- 36:03Speaker 5: end of the sea. And when I told what's the
- 36:05Speaker 5: Patrick Galvin, I'm like, I was just being honest. I'm like, man,
- 36:07Speaker 5: I have no skin in this game. I'm not Literally,
- 36:09Speaker 5: if you ask me to come back, I'm not coming back.
- 36:10Speaker 5: I'm done. But I just had something's going on here.
- 36:14Speaker 5: You need some veteran players that this is going to
- 36:16Speaker 5: get out of control. Yeah, straight up with them, and
- 36:18Speaker 5: whatever your ticket is that you can take it for sake,
- 36:20Speaker 5: go fuck yourself, Richie or what.
- 36:21Speaker 6: I don't care. But I was just being trying to
- 36:23Speaker 6: be honest and trying to help their group.
- 36:25Speaker 5: And obviously it wasn't a dealt with I just don't
- 36:27Speaker 5: think they put enough veterans around it like to kind
- 36:30Speaker 5: of help, you know, say, like let's settle down here.
- 36:32Speaker 5: Like Queen Hughes is a young captain who shouldn't be
- 36:35Speaker 5: dealing with this stuff, so you know he's got his
- 36:38Speaker 5: hands full just in a Canadian market young player trying
- 36:40Speaker 5: to play his game and trying to be a new captain.
- 36:42Speaker 6: That's not that's not for him to do.
- 36:44Speaker 5: So I don't think they just turn him with enough
- 36:47Speaker 5: good people and and then just kind of got out
- 36:48Speaker 5: of control and once it snowballed, it was too much.
- 36:51Speaker 5: The media gets a hold of it and it's over.
- 36:53Speaker 5: So yeah, I think they didn't. The management did mess up. Yeah,
- 36:57Speaker 5: and they lost the number one center, which he's for
- 36:59Speaker 5: a guy that maybe won't ever play in the league again,
- 37:01Speaker 5: you know who.
- 37:01Speaker 3: Knows and now was saying Quinn he was wants to
- 37:04Speaker 3: play with his brothers.
- 37:05Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, what do you think is gonna happen?
- 37:07Speaker 5: Yeah, they went from you know, almost beating Edmonton last year,
- 37:10Speaker 5: you know now not now I have no like, no
- 37:11Speaker 5: direction where they're going to go.
- 37:13Speaker 3: Yeah, so quick it happens, how quick it changes?
- 37:16Speaker 6: Right?
- 37:16Speaker 4: Yeah, just a quick one for me, Brad. I'm curious
- 37:20Speaker 4: you and and JD have a lot in common. Obviously
- 37:23Speaker 4: good friends, established careers, hives in your house. But one
- 37:27Speaker 4: other thing you also have in common. You are both
- 37:29Speaker 4: married to very talented, accomplished actresses. So I'd love to
- 37:34Speaker 4: hear just first of all, some of the conversations you
- 37:36Speaker 4: two have about your your wives, working in the biz
- 37:39Speaker 4: and just just the life of an actress husband.
- 37:43Speaker 6: And the biz, the biz, the biz.
- 37:46Speaker 3: We call it parties.
- 37:50Speaker 6: I mean, no, it's it's good on them.
- 37:53Speaker 5: I mean, uh, yeah, it's that's industry is very cutthroat
- 37:56Speaker 5: and hard hard to be in like like like like
- 37:59Speaker 5: like being an athlete.
- 38:00Speaker 6: It's it's someone's always trying to take your job.
- 38:02Speaker 5: There's a million people that want to do it, and
- 38:04Speaker 5: for them to both do it for such a long
- 38:06Speaker 5: time and longevity really kind of sums up a career
- 38:09Speaker 5: for me, is.
- 38:10Speaker 6: Can you do it over and over again consistently?
- 38:12Speaker 5: So, and they've both done that. They're both amazing people,
- 38:16Speaker 5: and we have a lot of fun together. So they're
- 38:18Speaker 5: fun loving and easy to be around. So yeah, I mean,
- 38:20Speaker 5: I don't want to pump them up too much, but yeah,
- 38:22Speaker 5: you know, you can't give them too much love. But no,
- 38:25Speaker 5: they're both amazing people, and we're pretty lucky. I mean,
- 38:28Speaker 5: we're pretty special people ourselves, right Jay.
- 38:30Speaker 3: But some sport something special than others. Yeah, we're very
- 38:36Speaker 3: specialpcial guys. But yeah, no, yeah, listen, honestly, thank you
- 38:41Speaker 3: so much. Brad, go get your go to that game
- 38:44Speaker 3: in l A right now, go take the PG whatever
- 38:47Speaker 3: you're doing right now, js X, get over there, get
- 38:49Speaker 3: to the game and Kings super fan.
- 38:52Speaker 6: Oh I can't wait. I might even throw my standing
- 38:54Speaker 6: covering on me, you know.
- 38:55Speaker 3: Oh yeah, go get a go, get a little signing,
- 38:57Speaker 3: Go make a couple.
- 38:58Speaker 6: Should put yours on one time?
- 38:59Speaker 3: I will, Yeah, I'll put my gut reverse sweat a.
- 39:06Speaker 6: All right, boys, thanks for having me. I appreciate it.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Jacobsenia, thanks so much for Brad Richards.
- 39:17Speaker 2: He was awesome.
- 39:17Speaker 1: So to the following sixty. I'm kicking it to j
- 39:19Speaker 1: D because he saw Warfare. He was raving about it.
- 39:22Speaker 1: And I've heard some great reviews. Talk to me, what
- 39:24Speaker 1: do you got? Yeah, I haven't uh, I haven't seen
- 39:28Speaker 1: a war movie.
- 39:29Speaker 3: I'm a I'm a big fan of war movies and
- 39:30Speaker 3: you know, Band of Brothers, all that stuff like I
- 39:33Speaker 3: I live for that, the the World War two, all
- 39:37Speaker 3: that Live and Color, all that stuff like three and
- 39:39Speaker 3: all those Netflix series. I love that. And and I
- 39:42Speaker 3: was I went into this with eyes open. It was
- 39:45Speaker 3: it's a director who is a former Navy seal and
- 39:49Speaker 3: he basically did it all off of a memory, all
- 39:53Speaker 3: off of memory of the you know, of the guys
- 39:55Speaker 3: that were in that platoon group. And it was just
- 40:00Speaker 3: amazingly shot. Uh, the way it's so intense, that the
- 40:04Speaker 3: pulse of it, you know, when there's like frag grenades,
- 40:07Speaker 3: it's like you really hear the guys talking. It's just
- 40:10Speaker 3: shot in a way that's so unique. I've never seen
- 40:12Speaker 3: anything like it. And you know, my wife was sitting
- 40:14Speaker 3: next to me. It was like pulse pounding and it
- 40:16Speaker 3: does not stop. It has one of the great opening
- 40:19Speaker 3: scenes of any movie when they have the Franz Ferdinand
- 40:21Speaker 3: call on me and they're all getting ready for their
- 40:24Speaker 3: they're all getting ready to go get deployed, and they're
- 40:26Speaker 3: all just sitting there dancing in a little room and
- 40:28Speaker 3: you kind of get a glimpse of what it's like
- 40:30Speaker 3: in this, you know, you know, being in war and
- 40:34Speaker 3: being in these these areas, in the small simple joys
- 40:37Speaker 3: that you get. And I just thought it was it
- 40:39Speaker 3: was front to back, NonStop action and but just amazing
- 40:44Speaker 3: how it was shot and and and really was like
- 40:46Speaker 3: I was sick to my stomach a couple of times.
- 40:48Speaker 3: The way the way they really open the book and
- 40:51Speaker 3: show you a lot that goes through with these these
- 40:54Speaker 3: missions and things like that. So I loved it. I
- 40:56Speaker 3: recommend it to everybody. I texted my my dad and
- 40:58Speaker 3: my brother right after, and I think I texted you
- 41:00Speaker 3: and I was like, yeah, you got to check this
- 41:02Speaker 3: out because it's it's very very interesting, and I feel
- 41:06Speaker 3: like two guys that appreciate appreciate cinematography like you guys
- 41:10Speaker 3: would appreciate all that stuff and appreciate the little nuances
- 41:13Speaker 3: things that I probably missed, But I think you'd be like, oh,
- 41:15Speaker 3: this is just great how they did it and shot out.
- 41:17Speaker 3: It's not the brutalist, but it's very good.
- 41:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:21Speaker 1: No, I got another review for my buddy Tyler, who
- 41:23Speaker 1: actually texted because you got to see it something No,
- 41:24Speaker 1: Jason Nurse was all over written and directed by my
- 41:27Speaker 1: buddy Tyler texts right like you texted me the next
- 41:29Speaker 1: day's I got to see Warfare. Oh, my buddy, Jason
- 41:31Speaker 1: Niverse is all over it so, written and directed by
- 41:33Speaker 1: Iraq war veteran Raymondoza and Alex Garland. Garland did Civil
- 41:37Speaker 1: War twenty eight days later. A couple of good when
- 41:38Speaker 1: the Civil War came out last year was really good Warfare,
- 41:41Speaker 1: embedding audiences with a platoon of American Navy seals on
- 41:44Speaker 1: a surveillance mission gone wrong in insurgent territory, A visceral
- 41:48Speaker 1: boots in the ground story of modern warfare and brotherhood
- 41:50Speaker 1: told like never before. Rave reviews coming in right now
- 41:54Speaker 1: for Warfare. I'm gonna go see Sinners this Saturday. I
- 41:56Speaker 1: can't wait. I'm accident.
- 41:57Speaker 3: Oh, I'm going with We're going, let's do it.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Was also excited. Tell if you've seen Sinners in, are
- 42:02Speaker 2: you actually going this weekend? I?
- 42:03Speaker 4: Well, I'm going this week for sure. I'm really excited
- 42:06Speaker 4: for Sinners. I was trying to go see it with
- 42:08Speaker 4: a buddy over the weekend. We didn't get around to it.
- 42:11Speaker 4: The reviews are fantastic. I like the Michael B. Cougler combo,
- 42:16Speaker 4: and I think it's pretty Apparently I don't know if
- 42:18Speaker 4: you guys heard about this. Ryan Cougler got like some
- 42:20Speaker 4: sort of cool back end deal on the profits from
- 42:23Speaker 4: this film, Like, I a deal way to do a filmmaker.
- 42:27Speaker 4: I'm not the best person to probably dig deep into
- 42:30Speaker 4: the inside baseball stuff there, but yeah, he got some
- 42:32Speaker 4: sort of sweetheart deal for a filmmaker. And that actually
- 42:35Speaker 4: kind of made me a little more motivated actually pay
- 42:37Speaker 4: to go see it, because you know, Ryan Cougler is
- 42:40Speaker 4: getting part of that money and not just the faceless
- 42:43Speaker 4: corporation that put it out.
- 42:45Speaker 3: What's what's the what's the thing with with Coogler right now?
- 42:48Speaker 3: That every one of his movies is like, nothing lower
- 42:51Speaker 3: than ninety five percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
- 42:54Speaker 1: Well, the movie opened forty eight million dollars to Tallis
- 42:57Speaker 1: with the box office and the Tomato meter at ninety
- 42:59Speaker 1: eight percent right now and a ninety seven percent audience score.
- 43:02Speaker 2: It's pretty incredible when the critics rave and the audiences
- 43:05Speaker 2: do as well. You never really find that kind of dichotomy.
- 43:07Speaker 3: But I don't think he's been under ninety five percent ever.
- 43:10Speaker 3: That's pretty impressive in his movies that he's done. Yeah,
- 43:13Speaker 3: which is pretty wild.
- 43:13Speaker 2: Ken't to check out Centers. Lou Lamarello, You and ag
- 43:16Speaker 2: were talking about this as well. Islanders legend at least
- 43:19Speaker 2: he was for a few seasons.
- 43:20Speaker 1: He did get them in back to back playoff appearances
- 43:22Speaker 1: like Final four, which to me is impressive, and he
- 43:24Speaker 1: turned things around. They lost the eventual champion, Tail Bay
- 43:27Speaker 1: lighting the conference finals twenty twenty and twenty twenty one.
- 43:31Speaker 2: But as so often happens with Lou Lamarello, he turns
- 43:33Speaker 2: things around, they rebuild.
- 43:34Speaker 1: They had a peak, but they have not won a
- 43:36Speaker 1: playoff series since then. This past season they were a
- 43:39Speaker 1: five hundred team, thirty five thirty five and twelve eighty
- 43:41Speaker 1: two points missed the playoffs, really floundered late. We'll get
- 43:45Speaker 1: to Lou in a second, but what do you do
- 43:46Speaker 1: with this New York Islanders team?
- 43:48Speaker 2: Patrick wasstill give.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Me the coach?
- 43:49Speaker 1: I asked Thomas Saiky. He said, they all like wah
- 43:51Speaker 1: like they like him as a guy. He's Patrick Waugh.
- 43:53Speaker 1: I don't know if he's a great coach. I don't
- 43:54Speaker 1: know if they have the talent to contend. The way
- 43:56Speaker 1: they flopped down the stretch was just awful.
- 43:58Speaker 2: I mean it was bad.
- 43:59Speaker 3: Yeah. I just think they're also a team that just
- 44:02Speaker 3: didn't really have any identity left and and you know,
- 44:05Speaker 3: some key injuries, and you didn't quite know where they
- 44:07Speaker 3: were going. They've they just the corps gotten stale. Uh
- 44:11Speaker 3: And I think you know, when the brock Nelson trade happened,
- 44:13Speaker 3: you kind of knew that, you know, they weren't selling,
- 44:17Speaker 3: but because they made a good push late, but it
- 44:19Speaker 3: was just kind of time for Lou and listen, Lose
- 44:22Speaker 3: a great steward of the game, and he's really done
- 44:24Speaker 3: some amazing things. And you know, every person that's played
- 44:28Speaker 3: for him has just some great stories and talks about him.
- 44:31Speaker 3: You know, you hear all the bad stuff about you know, yeah, yeah,
- 44:35Speaker 3: but everybody's got a funny story about Lou. And he
- 44:37Speaker 3: runs it a lot like a military ship. But you know,
- 44:39Speaker 3: I think he would love warfare. Yeah, he would love
- 44:42Speaker 3: warfare exactly. I more get nerve because I think what
- 44:45Speaker 3: John Collins is heading up the search.
- 44:47Speaker 2: Yeah, you buried him on the area. Go John Collins,
- 44:49Speaker 2: good luck with that search.
- 44:50Speaker 3: Well, because everybody I'm walking around the network and you know,
- 44:53Speaker 3: my his I'm not a huge history buff and but
- 44:55Speaker 3: I'm not afraid to say something that I hear. So yeah,
- 44:58Speaker 3: but there's a lot of trusted sources that were like
- 45:00Speaker 3: last time John Collins headed up the search, it's kind
- 45:04Speaker 3: of a his ass or something like, I hope he
- 45:05Speaker 3: does better this time, and I hope he has a
- 45:07Speaker 3: better look. But you know, I heard some people, you know,
- 45:10Speaker 3: hinting at maybe Patrick Wah goes up to the GM position.
- 45:15Speaker 3: He could do it, but it's different potentially, but it's
- 45:17Speaker 3: definitely it's different, I think exactly. I didn't love the
- 45:23Speaker 3: way they coach this year, but they're another team with
- 45:26Speaker 3: with a lot of mid tiered players, and they just
- 45:29Speaker 3: you know, you got Barzel and and but in simple
- 45:32Speaker 3: cough and you know in the back end you got
- 45:34Speaker 3: no adopts and Diangel did some good stuff. They when
- 45:37Speaker 3: you have goltending like that, you need to put a
- 45:39Speaker 3: team around it. Uh. I think their decore needs to
- 45:41Speaker 3: get revamped a little bit. They have some big, big, tall,
- 45:46Speaker 3: imposing defenders. I just think it's time to kind of
- 45:48Speaker 3: maybe move on from the pelches and the mayfields and
- 45:50Speaker 3: see what else is out there, and and then the
- 45:53Speaker 3: pullocks and and maybe try to just revamp the roster.
- 45:56Speaker 3: They just need a little little touch up. And and
- 45:58Speaker 3: the last thing I'll say about Lou Lamorello is beards,
- 46:01Speaker 3: Jackie beards for all these players.
- 46:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he's unbelieve right, he's one of these guys. No officially,
- 46:06Speaker 1: even the Yankees now finally relented after decades and all
- 46:08Speaker 1: the players to have facial hair, but lose that guy
- 46:11Speaker 1: going No, I can't do it little.
- 46:14Speaker 3: I I more like the beard when I played, because
- 46:16Speaker 3: it it hinders cuts like you'll get less cut from
- 46:21Speaker 3: a sticker, a puck getting hit, And a lot of
- 46:23Speaker 3: the times it kind of helped me. So that was
- 46:25Speaker 3: my You know, I also look horrendous when I've shaved
- 46:28Speaker 3: down to the wood. But you've done it, he's done
- 46:31Speaker 3: a few times. You'll go, you'll go very No. No,
- 46:33Speaker 3: I go here like I'm you know, five o'clock. I
- 46:35Speaker 3: do not go to the wood ever, no chance, no,
- 46:40Speaker 3: no never.
- 46:42Speaker 1: I'm surprised by that, considering your fanity, you actually want
- 46:44Speaker 1: to have a little bit of a beard cover.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Hey, he's sassy today, folks.
- 46:53Speaker 3: That is on the tennis. I made one chirp about
- 46:58Speaker 3: his emmy, it's just coming for me. It's all good.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Listen. I have to mention cal Clutterbuck all time name team.
- 47:05Speaker 1: He also retired NHL's all time hits leader foury twenty nine.
- 47:09Speaker 1: First off, I'm calling bullshit on that. How long have
- 47:11Speaker 1: they been calling hits for like Doug Harvey and Boom
- 47:14Speaker 1: Boom Jeffrey.
- 47:14Speaker 2: Come on. But fine, if you like to say modern
- 47:16Speaker 2: day he was a hitting machine, I'll give him that.
- 47:18Speaker 1: I'll give Hi Flowers seventeen seasons Wild and Islanders two
- 47:21Speaker 1: or ninety three points over one thousand games, and twenty
- 47:24Speaker 1: points in eighty one Stanley Cup playoff games. I mean,
- 47:26Speaker 1: just an absolute grinder. Cal Clutterbuck brought it every time
- 47:29Speaker 1: out there.
- 47:30Speaker 3: Yeah, he was one of those you know that line
- 47:32Speaker 3: of him, Suzekis and Matt Martin were great for years.
- 47:36Speaker 3: I got kicked out of a game once because I
- 47:38Speaker 3: need him in the head on purpose. On the I
- 47:41Speaker 3: got healthy. I didn't get healthy, scratch. I had a
- 47:44Speaker 3: bad start to the game. I was in Dallas and
- 47:46Speaker 3: they benched me for a little bit, and then they
- 47:48Speaker 3: put me on the power play in the bumper position,
- 47:50Speaker 3: which is in the middle of the ice.
- 47:51Speaker 2: Love the bumper position.
- 47:52Speaker 3: Oh, I set up, I get a scoring chance. We
- 47:55Speaker 3: hit the post, and I'm pissed though, because I'm like,
- 47:58Speaker 3: I just got benched. Lindy Ruff was kind of on
- 48:00Speaker 3: my ass and I'm like, I'm like this, you're putting
- 48:03Speaker 3: me on the power playing the bumper. She's like, I
- 48:04Speaker 3: don't want to be here. And then all of a sudden,
- 48:06Speaker 3: the puck just squirts out to Cal clutterbuoks. So I
- 48:09Speaker 3: go to the boards and I'm like, I'm going to
- 48:11Speaker 3: murder him, and he fell on his knees and I
- 48:14Speaker 3: was like, oh, oh, do I stop or just kind
- 48:16Speaker 3: of keep going? So it kind of slowed down, but
- 48:18Speaker 3: I just drove my thigh into his head and I
- 48:21Speaker 3: felt bad immediately, and then I got kicked out right after,
- 48:24Speaker 3: so I was like my night was done. Funny story.
- 48:27Speaker 3: My wife was there, who was my girlfriend at the time,
- 48:30Speaker 3: with her friend and her friend. I get kicked out
- 48:33Speaker 3: and she's her friend like didn't watch hockey and was
- 48:34Speaker 3: like what happened? And Joe's like, well, you got he
- 48:37Speaker 3: got kicked out. He's not coming back, and she goes, well,
- 48:40Speaker 3: do you think I can? Do you think I can leave?
- 48:42Speaker 3: Then my wife's like no, he paid for the tickets
- 48:46Speaker 3: and she's like no, but I can go right because
- 48:49Speaker 3: he's not playing.
- 48:49Speaker 2: He's off stay yeah, not the second act. I'll just
- 48:53Speaker 2: leave now.
- 48:54Speaker 3: So she shot by. She sat by herself the rest
- 48:56Speaker 3: of the game because her friend left.
- 48:58Speaker 2: And she came.
- 48:59Speaker 3: So I get kicked out and then I walk out
- 49:01Speaker 3: of the building and my wife's like, I'm You're never
- 49:03Speaker 3: getting tickets from my friends again. They do that. I
- 49:06Speaker 3: just laughing it was just such a funny little but
- 49:07Speaker 3: it was on Calclutterbuck and you could there's a clip.
- 49:10Speaker 2: On that, there's the video, so talents confirmed me.
- 49:12Speaker 1: It hits by way, start tracking back in two thousand
- 49:14Speaker 1: and seven. So I'm gonna yeah, sorry, I'm gonna go
- 49:17Speaker 1: pibble this NHL's all time hits later. I'll just say
- 49:19Speaker 1: from the last fifteen years or seventeen years.
- 49:22Speaker 3: Yeah, there's it's too tough of a measurement, honestly. And
- 49:25Speaker 3: certain buildings, like certain buildings have padded stats like excellent
- 49:30Speaker 3: point buildings. There are buildings I'll go in, I do
- 49:33Speaker 3: not get a hit if I kill somebody in the
- 49:35Speaker 3: middle of the ice, And there's other buildings. If you
- 49:38Speaker 3: touch a guy with your hand, you get you know,
- 49:39Speaker 3: eighteen hits. Yeah, so it's just not I don't I
- 49:43Speaker 3: don't love it. But I could probably say he was
- 49:45Speaker 3: one of the top guys in the NHL in the
- 49:48Speaker 3: past of ten years at finishing his hits. And I mean,
- 49:50Speaker 3: he had a great career and and you know a
- 49:53Speaker 3: lot of his teammates have a lot of nice things
- 49:54Speaker 3: to say about him, and he was very effective at
- 49:56Speaker 3: what he did. So you know, congrats to him in
- 49:58Speaker 3: retirement and hopefully the next chapter is as good as
- 50:01Speaker 3: this chapter was.
- 50:03Speaker 2: Amen, as we looked close this chapter of their three Stars,
- 50:06Speaker 2: each of us giving our favorite stars so far. Tell
- 50:08Speaker 2: what you got? You kick us off, You're gonna go
- 50:10Speaker 2: the big one here? What do you got?
- 50:11Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 50:11Speaker 4: The guy I really like so far in these playoffs
- 50:13Speaker 4: is Kyle Connor. He's not even the best Connor on
- 50:16Speaker 4: his own team.
- 50:18Speaker 3: That would probably be hellibuck.
- 50:19Speaker 4: But I mean, this is a guy I've always thought
- 50:22Speaker 4: for a while now has been kind of underrated in
- 50:24Speaker 4: the league. He's one of the most consistent goal scorers
- 50:26Speaker 4: in the league, just had a massive season, finished seventh
- 50:30Speaker 4: in the league and goals, seventh in the league in points,
- 50:32Speaker 4: was a healthy scratch at four Nations, and comes out
- 50:35Speaker 4: guns blazing in the first round, two games, two game
- 50:38Speaker 4: winning goals, making huge plays, and I just think there's
- 50:42Speaker 4: not enough being made of what he does for this team.
- 50:45Speaker 4: You know, they're missing a couple of big guns up front.
- 50:48Speaker 4: Someone has to step up, and as it's been pretty
- 50:51Speaker 4: much the entire season, it's Kyle Connor. He came into
- 50:53Speaker 4: the playoffs with five three career game winning goals in
- 50:57Speaker 4: the playoffs for his career. He has two this week,
- 51:00Speaker 4: so he's almost doubled his career total. And if they
- 51:03Speaker 4: wanted to make quick work of the Blues and have
- 51:05Speaker 4: a little rest while the stars in Avalanche duke it out,
- 51:09Speaker 4: Kyle Connor's gonna have to come up big.
- 51:11Speaker 3: He's my star for the week.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Great call, Tel, It's surely he has been great for
- 51:14Speaker 1: the Winni pick Jets so far. I'll go with Matthew
- 51:16Speaker 1: could Schuck two power play goals and assist his first
- 51:18Speaker 1: game after a two month absence. The Panthers are still
- 51:21Speaker 1: the defending Steleing Cup champions. They're trying to make the
- 51:23Speaker 1: Cup off for the third straight time. Everyone talks about
- 51:25Speaker 1: Brady could Schuck. Gives some love to Matthew could Schuck.
- 51:28Speaker 1: He does it all out through on the ice, and
- 51:29Speaker 1: he's certainly starved for Florida as their first star against
- 51:31Speaker 1: the Lightning JD who you got?
- 51:34Speaker 3: It would be easy to go with the man who
- 51:36Speaker 3: got his first ever overtime playag goal, which is Ovechkin,
- 51:39Speaker 3: Which would be an easy I mean, he was a
- 51:41Speaker 3: beast in that game. But I gotta give a love.
- 51:43Speaker 3: I gotta give some love because He's played two games
- 51:46Speaker 3: and he's been fantastic and he's it's resulted in a
- 51:50Speaker 3: resounding victory in both games. Anthony Stolars, who has been
- 51:55Speaker 3: very very good for the Toronto Maple Leafs Ottawa is
- 51:58Speaker 3: led at five on five in scoring chances and a
- 52:01Speaker 3: lot of inner slot chances and Stollars is hend and
- 52:04Speaker 3: on his last ten games he's been He's been the
- 52:06Speaker 3: guy that the Maple Leafs fans and faithful have been
- 52:09Speaker 3: looking for. Uh he has them poised to maybe do
- 52:13Speaker 3: something special and get to the second round. They're up
- 52:15Speaker 3: to nothing, first time in twenty one years that they're
- 52:18Speaker 3: two nothing in a series in the first round. So
- 52:21Speaker 3: this is interesting. Uh So Anthony Stillars is my pick.
- 52:25Speaker 2: One can only hope though guy get some point. Ottiwill
- 52:27Speaker 2: come back in the series. We shall see.
- 52:28Speaker 1: Always a ton of fun here on NHL Inscripted. Honestly,
- 52:31Speaker 1: we're going twice a week. Make sure you check us out.
- 52:33Speaker 1: Thanks once again to Brad Richardson. Coming up next week.
