Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Hello, everyone. Welcome to Inside the Tape. On Inside the Birds,
- 0:13Speaker 2: I'm Jeff Mosher with Adam Kaplan. And of course, to
- 0:15Speaker 2: break down the tape, we have Greg Cosell. And boy,
- 0:19Speaker 2: what the tape might show. Greg, we don't do tape
- 0:22Speaker 2: of special teams. And we're not going to start in
- 0:25Speaker 2: this episode because everybody knows how and why exactly the
- 0:29Speaker 2: Eagles lost in the end in Jacksonville. I'm sorry, in
- 0:33Speaker 2: London against Jacksonville in a 1917 game. What a way
- 0:35Speaker 2: to end it. It's not so great, obviously, for the
- 0:40Speaker 2: Eagles to lose three in a row. But as Adam
- 0:42Speaker 2: and I tried to discuss in the postgame show, there
- 0:45Speaker 2: were some positives we could take away. There were also
- 0:49Speaker 2: some things that keep resurfacing that hurt them.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Can you share the positives with me?
- 0:55Speaker 2: The positives were you saw Jalen Carter play really well.
- 0:59Speaker 2: In the first half.
- 1:00Speaker 1: In the first half, yeah.
- 1:03Speaker 2: I actually thought, and this is a good way to
- 1:05Speaker 2: segue into our offensive show, this one, I was expecting
- 1:09Speaker 2: to see a lot more offensive penalties from majors and
- 1:14Speaker 2: from the left guard.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Well, it's funny you say that. And just before we,
- 1:19Speaker 1: you know, since we kind of do this freewheeling, Jeff,
- 1:21Speaker 1: I assume you We don't have a plan here. We're
- 1:24Speaker 1: not in a syllabus here, you know.
- 1:26Speaker 2: We're kind of like the Eagles' second-half offense. We just– Right, right.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Well, it's funny because the first two offensive possessions, I'm
- 1:33Speaker 1: watching the tape because that's the first thing I do
- 1:34Speaker 1: when I come in, and on Mondays I usually get
- 1:36Speaker 1: here about 5.15 in the morning. So I was watching
- 1:39Speaker 1: the tape, and the first two possessions, I'm like watching,
- 1:42Speaker 1: and I go, Willie Lampkin is getting beat on every
- 1:45Speaker 1: single play. And then all of a sudden he settled in.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And he did not play poorly after the first two possessions.
- 1:52Speaker 1: But the first two possessions, as I'm watching, I'm thinking
- 1:54Speaker 1: to myself, oh, boy, I just don't know if this
- 1:57Speaker 1: guy can play left guard in the NFL. And then
- 2:00Speaker 1: I give the guy a ton of credit. He settled in.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Did he have a bad snap here or there? Sure.
- 2:04Speaker 1: But every offensive lineman has a bad snap here or there.
- 2:08Speaker 1: And I know people listening might think, well, how could
- 2:11Speaker 1: they have played well? Because I don't think majors played
- 2:13Speaker 1: poorly either. He had some bad snaps because they didn't
- 2:16Speaker 1: run the ball well at all. So people might be
- 2:17Speaker 1: thinking that, OK, well, they couldn't have played well. But
- 2:20Speaker 1: when you don't run well, there's there's multiple reasons. It's
- 2:23Speaker 1: not just one guy. You know, the other point I'd
- 2:27Speaker 1: make is and I know this for a fact because
- 2:29Speaker 1: I know who's working with him in the building. Markel
- 2:31Speaker 1: Bell needs to get a lot stronger. He's got traits,
- 2:34Speaker 1: but he's not strong enough right now, which Adam has
- 2:37Speaker 1: addressed with somebody he knows in the league was an
- 2:39Speaker 1: offensive line coach. I remember Adam speaking about this, that
- 2:42Speaker 1: he said that, you know, he loved the kid. but
- 2:44Speaker 1: he said he shouldn't play as a rookie. Adam, didn't
- 2:47Speaker 1: you say that about Markel Bell?
- 2:50Speaker 3: Yes, he needed to work into his body. He's very long,
- 2:54Speaker 3: and he needs to get in the weight room and
- 2:56Speaker 3: lose weight. But as you said, there's something you really–
- 3:00Speaker 3: No question, but.
- 3:01Speaker 1: He just needs to be strong. You can see that
- 3:03Speaker 1: on tape. He just needs to get stronger. It is. Yeah. But,
- 3:07Speaker 1: I mean, look, he wasn't supposed to play this year.
- 3:10Speaker 1: You can't blame him. I know he's working at it,
- 3:12Speaker 1: and I know he's a very good young man. I
- 3:15Speaker 1: actually met him at the All-In Masterminds, talked to him
- 3:17Speaker 1: a few minutes. I mean, and like I said, I
- 3:19Speaker 1: know who's working with him. So, you know, he'll end
- 3:22Speaker 1: up being a good player, but obviously he has to
- 3:24Speaker 1: play now.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Unless they want to put Fred Johnson in there, who
- 3:29Speaker 1: obviously played right guard in this game, and then Steen
- 3:32Speaker 1: came back. But that'll be up to the organization as
- 3:34Speaker 1: to what they want to do going forward.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Only in the world of the NFL can a human
- 3:38Speaker 2: being who is, what, 6'9, 350, be told he has
- 3:42Speaker 2: to get stronger. Only in the NFL would you say
- 3:44Speaker 2: that about, but it is true.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Anyway, I just figured I'd throw that out, you know,
- 3:48Speaker 1: just to start so we, you know, because that's what
- 3:51Speaker 1: I noticed right away, you know, because there was one
- 3:54Speaker 1: play where Armstead just, you know, long-armed him on a
- 3:57Speaker 1: pass rush, and I'm like, oh, my God, this is
- 4:00Speaker 1: not– and, of course, Armstead's probably a foot taller, but
- 4:02Speaker 1: I mean– you know, it was just one of those
- 4:04Speaker 1: where you look at the play and go, Oh my God,
- 4:06Speaker 1: this is not going to go well.
- 4:07Speaker 3: But he, I ask you Lampkin because you know, the, the,
- 4:11Speaker 3: the book on him is former wrestler, high school wrestler,
- 4:14Speaker 3: strong lower body though. He's just too short. What are
- 4:17Speaker 3: the traits that you really liked about him?
- 4:19Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you what he's obviously has natural leverage
- 4:22Speaker 1: because he's lower than everybody's playing against. And he, he
- 4:26Speaker 1: definitely has that really strong lower body because he gets
- 4:30Speaker 1: under people and he, you know, he, He doesn't move.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Let's put it this way. He doesn't move people because
- 4:37Speaker 1: he's just, you know, he's not just big enough overall,
- 4:40Speaker 1: but he still makes them. Now, the longer a play goes,
- 4:44Speaker 1: he can have some issues because he can't really move
- 4:46Speaker 1: them out of the way. But look, first NFL start
- 4:50Speaker 1: for a guy like that. I mean, I, well, I'm
- 4:54Speaker 1: sure there were individual. I know there's individual plays where
- 4:56Speaker 1: he got a minus. I would say overall, he was
- 4:59Speaker 1: more of a plus than a minus.
- 5:02Speaker 2: That is like the epitome of having two different conversations
- 5:07Speaker 2: about an individual making his first start, giving the story,
- 5:11Speaker 2: you're impressed, he rebounds, like you said, from a rough
- 5:15Speaker 2: opening series, right? But when you look at this thing
- 5:17Speaker 2: long term, right, what have we said about this running game,
- 5:20Speaker 2: what Saquon Barkley, Saquon Barkley needs someone not stalemating, but really,
- 5:24Speaker 2: you know, creating a hole for him to run through.
- 5:26Speaker 2: So unfortunately you're getting a positive sign for the short
- 5:30Speaker 2: term and maybe for the long term for Willie and
- 5:32Speaker 2: his career, but for the current state of things right now,
- 5:35Speaker 2: it's just, it's not a great situation.
- 5:37Speaker 1: And as we've discussed with Barkley, he's not a wiggle back.
- 5:39Speaker 1: So he needs people to at least move a little
- 5:42Speaker 1: bit at the first level. You know, he's not, he's
- 5:45Speaker 1: not Jameer Gibb. You know, he's not that kind of runner.
- 5:47Speaker 1: He's not a wiggle back. Right. Right.
- 5:50Speaker 2: So if you had asked me, Greg, going into the game,
- 5:53Speaker 2: what are my expectations of majors and Lampkin center left guard?
- 5:57Speaker 2: I would have probably, as I was saying, I would
- 5:59Speaker 2: have probably expected like a double digits worth of false starts, holdings,
- 6:03Speaker 2: bad snaps, and maybe some, some other penalties in there.
- 6:07Speaker 2: They weren't, they were no discipline standpoint. They all seem
- 6:11Speaker 2: to perform their job really well. And if they have
- 6:13Speaker 2: to play again, at least you're encouraged that maybe even
- 6:15Speaker 2: at home, Their crowd, although the crowd was very pro-Philly, but,
- 6:19Speaker 2: you know, no silent count. Like, you can build off that.
- 6:22Speaker 1: No, I agree. I mean, you know, and again, like
- 6:25Speaker 1: I said, people listening might look and see they had
- 6:27Speaker 1: 18 rushes for 22 yards and think, what are you
- 6:29Speaker 1: talking about? But, you know, I was looking at these
- 6:32Speaker 1: guys as individuals, you know, and there's something, you know,
- 6:37Speaker 1: there's something you kind of felt good about, you know,
- 6:39Speaker 1: just as an individual. Mm-hmm.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Why would you say the Eagles struggle to run so
- 6:44Speaker 2: much from a Jacksonville standpoint? What did Jacksonville do well?
- 6:48Speaker 2: I know they have a great run defense anyway.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I would say, you know, the biggest
- 6:54Speaker 1: issue to me was it wasn't that guys were getting beat.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Like I was looking at it as, you know, I
- 6:59Speaker 1: don't know what I expected, but you know, you know,
- 7:02Speaker 1: when an offensive lineman gets beat, guys weren't getting beat,
- 7:05Speaker 1: but they just weren't moving people, you know, and there's
- 7:07Speaker 1: a difference. Like, Not moving people I don't view necessarily
- 7:11Speaker 1: as a horrible negative, like, oh, my God, these guys
- 7:13Speaker 1: can't play. But, you know, they weren't necessarily creating. Plus,
- 7:17Speaker 1: I think that that Alouikin and Miller were really, really
- 7:23Speaker 1: good at attacking downhill in the run game and making
- 7:26Speaker 1: it hard, you know, when they were combination blocks to
- 7:29Speaker 1: come off, you know, the double team or the combo
- 7:31Speaker 1: block and get to them. They were already in the
- 7:33Speaker 1: gaps at the first level of the defense. And so
- 7:37Speaker 1: the gaps were there were no gaps. You know, it
- 7:39Speaker 1: was just closed, you know. Now, I don't know if
- 7:42Speaker 1: they had a beat on anything. You know, again, that's
- 7:45Speaker 1: for all the tape I watch. I certainly don't know that.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Teams have, you know, 10 guys looking at that on
- 7:49Speaker 1: one person. I don't know that. You know, but it
- 7:52Speaker 1: just seemed like those guys filled so quickly and literally
- 7:56Speaker 1: took away the gaps.
- 7:58Speaker 3: On majors, did you feel like the lack of length?
- 8:02Speaker 3: was a little bit of a problem for him.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Like it was. Yeah. I mean, I think on both guys,
- 8:06Speaker 1: I think that that's ultimately, you know, the concern as
- 8:09Speaker 1: you go forward, because I think initially when they make contact,
- 8:15Speaker 1: they're good at them, but they were, but then they,
- 8:18Speaker 1: and they fought and they, you know, say what you
- 8:20Speaker 1: want about Lampkin, that kid just battles. I mean, he
- 8:23Speaker 1: is a, he's a, that's probably one of the reasons
- 8:25Speaker 1: I'm sure everybody likes him because he just freaking battles, but, but,
- 8:29Speaker 1: they don't move people. They, they, they stop them. They don't,
- 8:32Speaker 1: they don't get beat. You know, where you go, my God,
- 8:34Speaker 1: look at him get beat, but they don't move people. Gotcha.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Greg, they obviously got some big plays in the passing
- 8:40Speaker 2: game in the first half. Of course, another touchdown for
- 8:42Speaker 2: Darius Cooper, who we are joking has one of the
- 8:45Speaker 2: best touchdown to catch rates you're ever going to see
- 8:47Speaker 2: in the NFL. And then the second half came and
- 8:52Speaker 2: I think there were a variety of things, you know,
- 8:54Speaker 2: they started to get behind the sticks. There were some
- 8:56Speaker 2: bad snaps. Like you said, there were some, bad screens
- 8:59Speaker 2: and everything, but in general, what do you attribute from
- 9:03Speaker 2: watching the tape to just another second half malaise too?
- 9:07Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, you know, I think that the Jaguars
- 9:10Speaker 1: started to be a little more aggressive, you know, with
- 9:13Speaker 1: their pressures. You know, there were a couple of, you know,
- 9:16Speaker 1: the thing is the second half to me just had
- 9:20Speaker 1: the feel of them not really having the ball a lot.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Now they may have, but it just watching the tape,
- 9:28Speaker 1: And actually, I got home and I saw, I think,
- 9:32Speaker 1: the last quarter and a half on TV. And it
- 9:36Speaker 1: was one of those games. And obviously, you guys watched
- 9:38Speaker 1: it because you had to do your postgame. It had
- 9:40Speaker 1: a very odd feel to it to me. Like, it
- 9:45Speaker 1: wasn't where I felt watching it. And even watching the
- 9:47Speaker 1: tape where I thought, oh, my God, this offense stinks. But,
- 9:50Speaker 1: you know, it just felt like they were just individual
- 9:53Speaker 1: plays that I felt, you know, they didn't. They didn't execute.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I mean, there was a great example where, you know,
- 10:00Speaker 1: I thought that here when it was third and 13
- 10:02Speaker 1: late in the third quarter and the Jaguars went zero
- 10:04Speaker 1: at a dime and Hurts just overthrows Wicks. I mean,
- 10:08Speaker 1: you know, that ball wasn't overthrown by five yards. You know,
- 10:11Speaker 1: that ball was overthrown by probably a yard, you know,
- 10:14Speaker 1: plays like that, that would have been a touchdown, you know,
- 10:16Speaker 1: Then there was another play, and I thought this was
- 10:18Speaker 1: just good defense by the Jags. It was third and
- 10:22Speaker 1: 10 on the first fourth quarter possession. They showed a
- 10:24Speaker 1: zero look pre-snap at a dime. So then Church changed
- 10:27Speaker 1: the play, saw a zero. And then what they did
- 10:30Speaker 1: is they changed the picture post-snap to cover to invert,
- 10:33Speaker 1: and he had changed the play basically to a wide
- 10:36Speaker 1: receiver screen, and a wide receiver screen is not what
- 10:38Speaker 1: you want to call into a cover two corner sitting
- 10:41Speaker 1: right there. So, you know, there were individual plays where
- 10:45Speaker 1: it just– they got beat. And because there was no
- 10:49Speaker 1: run game and no stability and continuity to their offense,
- 10:53Speaker 1: it came down to individual plays. And I'm not a
- 10:56Speaker 1: believer in that. I mean, I know a lot of
- 10:58Speaker 1: people are, oh, you have to call a great play. But,
- 11:01Speaker 1: you know, to me, you have to have some kind
- 11:02Speaker 1: of sustainability to your offense and continuity and stability to
- 11:06Speaker 1: your offense. And there was none of that in the
- 11:08Speaker 1: second half.
- 11:10Speaker 2: I think it's become such a repetitive recurring issue, the
- 11:13Speaker 2: Eagles failures on third down that People start to look
- 11:16Speaker 2: for reasons that are less obvious than what we keep
- 11:21Speaker 2: talking about. It's not a third down issue for the Eagles.
- 11:24Speaker 2: It is a first and second down issue. I'll give
- 11:26Speaker 2: you all the third downs we had in the second half.
- 11:29Speaker 2: There was that third and three. That was makeable, right?
- 11:32Speaker 2: Then third and nine, third and 10, third and eight,
- 11:35Speaker 2: third and 13, third and 10, third and nine, third
- 11:37Speaker 2: and 20.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Okay? You can't play like that. Right. Right.
- 11:42Speaker 2: So it is a first. And then part of that
- 11:43Speaker 2: is not all on the passing game. Part of it
- 11:45Speaker 2: is on their inability to run the ball. That is
- 11:47Speaker 2: going to put you behind the sticks. And then you
- 11:49Speaker 2: get into– I thought the high snaps were all in
- 11:51Speaker 2: the second half, if I'm not mistaken, from majors. And
- 11:54Speaker 2: there were some penalties and bad play too.
- 11:56Speaker 3: What was interesting was that they were really good on
- 11:59Speaker 3: third down the first half, 4-6.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Hertz, for what he can do because he was under siege,
- 12:05Speaker 3: was fairly comfortable. And then it's just like when you're
- 12:09Speaker 3: playing with backups– eventually that's, it's going to show. And
- 12:14Speaker 3: Greg just outlined some of the mistakes that aren't caught
- 12:17Speaker 3: by our eyes of television.
- 12:22Speaker 1: It's funny when you look at them because, you know,
- 12:25Speaker 1: they're third down numbers, you know, let's say third and
- 12:28Speaker 1: long for instance. Okay. Third and seven plus, which is
- 12:32Speaker 1: what is often considered long. I mean, you know, they're,
- 12:36Speaker 1: they're not good, but they're not terrible. You know, I mean,
- 12:41Speaker 1: they're actually 10th in the league on third and seven
- 12:43Speaker 1: plus in terms of conversion rate. So it's a very
- 12:46Speaker 1: odd mix. You know, we know they were terrible the
- 12:50Speaker 1: week prior, but, you know, if you go third and
- 12:54Speaker 1: seven plus, they're 28% conversion rate, which is 10th best
- 12:58Speaker 1: in the league. So it's a very odd, you know,
- 13:03Speaker 1: it's a hard thing to figure out. Mm-hmm. It is hard.
- 13:07Speaker 2: And I think it's multifaceted. There are a lot of issues.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Oh, there's never one thing. I mean, you know, people
- 13:13Speaker 1: always like to look at one thing, but it's never
- 13:15Speaker 1: just one thing. Yeah.
- 13:17Speaker 2: So I guess this is a tough question, right? I
- 13:20Speaker 2: know people are sort of having a difficult time just
- 13:22Speaker 2: in their overall evaluation of a quarterback when the entire
- 13:26Speaker 2: environment around him isn't great. So I know you take
- 13:31Speaker 2: that into account when you watch the tape, even though
- 13:33Speaker 2: the tape is the tape. The environment has to be
- 13:36Speaker 2: factored in. How'd you feel Jalen played?
- 13:39Speaker 1: I don't think he played poorly at all. I mean, look,
- 13:41Speaker 1: Jalen at this point in his career has played a
- 13:43Speaker 1: lot of football games. So there's, it's not likely he's
- 13:47Speaker 1: going to be a different quarterback than he was a
- 13:51Speaker 1: year ago or two years ago. You know, I get
- 13:53Speaker 1: asked this, you know, it's a week to week thing
- 13:56Speaker 1: with a lot of people like, you know, radio shows
- 13:58Speaker 1: when I do stuff, people ask me, well, so-and-so regressed.
- 14:01Speaker 1: And I'm like, well, what do you mean regressed? Do
- 14:03Speaker 1: you think he's different than he was last week? I mean,
- 14:06Speaker 1: you know, to me, that's, I don't know how to
- 14:07Speaker 1: answer that question because it's not, they're not different players.
- 14:11Speaker 1: You know, I mean, oftentimes a system can help them.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Oftentimes the flow of a game can help them. You know,
- 14:19Speaker 1: obviously Jeff and you made a great point. If you're
- 14:21Speaker 1: facing all these third and longs, There's the playbook becomes
- 14:25Speaker 1: shrunk and very limited, you know, you know, but Jalen
- 14:29Speaker 1: hurts is not different than he was two weeks ago
- 14:32Speaker 1: or even last year. He's the same player, you know?
- 14:36Speaker 1: So does he have a really refined natural sense of anticipation? No.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Is he ever likely to be that guy? No, but
- 14:44Speaker 1: there's things he does well. I mean, he made some
- 14:47Speaker 1: really good throws in this game. You know, I thought
- 14:49Speaker 1: he threw, I think it was, 19 yards to Wicks.
- 14:52Speaker 1: And I think that was in the second half, a
- 14:54Speaker 1: really good out out ball on an out cut with
- 14:57Speaker 1: really good coverage by Travis Hunter. I mean, he made
- 15:00Speaker 1: a great throw. I mean, yeah, I don't think he,
- 15:03Speaker 1: you know, I think it'd be a mistake to say
- 15:06Speaker 1: that they didn't score a touchdown in the second half
- 15:08Speaker 1: because of Jalen hurts. I agree.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Adam and I made the point that if, you know,
- 15:14Speaker 2: with the injuries, if that's Devante Smith, instead of Wicks
- 15:17Speaker 2: lining up at that spot on that, on that all
- 15:19Speaker 2: out blitz, the zero blitz, then you might have a
- 15:22Speaker 2: touchdown there because he's a little, he's, he's faster.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I mean, obviously, look, I know that, you know, Cooper
- 15:28Speaker 1: obviously really beat the, the Brown kid off the ball
- 15:32Speaker 1: on the touchdown and he saw it right away and
- 15:34Speaker 1: made a, you know, put it right on him so
- 15:36Speaker 1: he could run after catch. I mean, he wasn't the reason,
- 15:39Speaker 1: you know, I mean, you know, again, the numbers in
- 15:41Speaker 1: the second half weren't good, but you know, you hit
- 15:44Speaker 1: upon that, Jeff, there's reasons for that. It's, you know,
- 15:47Speaker 1: it's always easy to say that, you know, they don't
- 15:51Speaker 1: have a lot of dimensions in their past game. If
- 15:53Speaker 1: Devonta Smith is not there and, and, and Smith, I
- 15:56Speaker 1: love Devonta Smith. We all do. And he can get vertical.
- 16:00Speaker 1: No question. He's not a burner in a strict sense,
- 16:03Speaker 1: but he certainly can get vertical. They don't have that
- 16:06Speaker 1: dimension right now. They don't. So, you know, it's, it's,
- 16:09Speaker 1: it limits what you can do in your past game.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Jeff, I'd say this to the first game. Yeah, I
- 16:15Speaker 3: was just going to say the first two games, guys,
- 16:16Speaker 3: I thought that Hurts, in terms of timing, is the
- 16:20Speaker 3: best I'd seen him in I don't know how many seasons.
- 16:24Speaker 3: There were some good– on the show that we do
- 16:26Speaker 3: with you, Greg, we showed it. Like that's a really
- 16:29Speaker 3: good timing throw. But his entire career has never shown
- 16:32Speaker 3: the consistency with timing.
- 16:34Speaker 1: That's not who he is. What's that? That's not who
- 16:37Speaker 1: he is. I get it.
- 16:38Speaker 3: But what I'm saying is we saw something really nice
- 16:41Speaker 3: the first two weeks. We go, wow, okay, let's see
- 16:43Speaker 3: what happens. Then you saw it fall off. In this game,
- 16:47Speaker 3: some good throws. And then there were some protection problems.
- 16:49Speaker 3: There were a couple where he just held it. I
- 16:52Speaker 3: think Kurt Warner pointed it out. There's some times you
- 16:54Speaker 3: got to turn it loose. He perceived pressure sometimes.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, in a strict sense. And again, this
- 17:01Speaker 1: is just a discussion of Jalen Hurts. And I hope
- 17:03Speaker 1: people listening, this is a valid discussion of Jalen Hurts.
- 17:08Speaker 1: And I hope people who listen understand that that's what
- 17:11Speaker 1: I do. You know, this is, you know, I get
- 17:13Speaker 1: it all the time on social media. You know, everybody
- 17:16Speaker 1: takes it personally. This is just a discussion of who
- 17:18Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts is. Jalen Hurts is not, as I said,
- 17:22Speaker 1: a true refined timing anticipation player. Jalen Hurts is not
- 17:26Speaker 1: necessarily someone who will turn it loose if windows are tight.
- 17:30Speaker 1: You know, someone like Kurt Warner who did the game,
- 17:32Speaker 1: he was that guy. You know, there's quarterbacks who are
- 17:35Speaker 1: those guys. You know, Jalen has other attributes that let's
- 17:39Speaker 1: say Kurt Warner didn't have. But Jalen is not the
- 17:42Speaker 1: kind of guy that, you know, is, is just a natural, Hey,
- 17:45Speaker 1: I'm going to just turn it loose. Right.
- 17:47Speaker 2: You know, I like the way you say that, how
- 17:49Speaker 2: it's not, it's not natural because we do show times
- 17:52Speaker 2: where he does it, but those are times where they're
- 17:55Speaker 2: just not always consistent, like 10 times a game. Cause
- 17:58Speaker 2: it's not natural for him. There are times he's able
- 18:00Speaker 2: to do it, but then there.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Are times where he doesn't. To be honest with you,
- 18:04Speaker 3: you know, talking to Greg and Jaws for 20 some
- 18:07Speaker 3: odd years, watching tape with you guys, you would point
- 18:09Speaker 3: out so many things with Brady Manning, and the greats,
- 18:13Speaker 3: and the guys who are just a hair off or not,
- 18:16Speaker 3: they just don't have it inborn to them, throwing time
- 18:19Speaker 3: all the time. It's hard. It's hard for coaches to
- 18:22Speaker 3: get them to do it.
- 18:24Speaker 1: I mean, I heard Carson Palmer talk, and I know
- 18:27Speaker 1: Carson Palmer, and I've talked to him over the years.
- 18:29Speaker 1: And he was asked in something I saw with him
- 18:32Speaker 1: not too long ago, and he said, what's the one
- 18:36Speaker 1: trait you cannot teach a quarterback? He didn't miss a beat,
- 18:39Speaker 1: and he said anticipation. And, you know, Carson Palmer had
- 18:43Speaker 1: it at a very high level and there are guys
- 18:45Speaker 1: that do, you know, but that's a hard thing to teach.
- 18:48Speaker 1: You can talk about it, but you know, when you're playing,
- 18:51Speaker 1: you either see it that way or you don't see
- 18:53Speaker 1: it that way. I mean, it's, you know, that's the
- 18:56Speaker 1: way it is. Yeah.
- 18:57Speaker 2: But Greg, Carson Palmer didn't win anything. So you're an idiot.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I'm just preparing you.
- 19:01Speaker 1: For social media. Well, no, and that's true.
- 19:02Speaker 2: I'm just preparing you for tomorrow's social media barrage, okay?
- 19:05Speaker 1: Right, right.
- 19:06Speaker 2: What has he ever won, man?
- 19:07Speaker 1: Right, so I accept that. Yes, I'm an idiot.
- 19:10Speaker 2: There you go.
- 19:11Speaker 3: All right, let's look at some– Trent Dilfer is better
- 19:12Speaker 3: because he won a Super Bowl.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Right, that's right. That's right. That was good, Jeff. That
- 19:18Speaker 1: was very good.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I like to help you out and prepare you.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I love that. I love that.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Let's talk about, I think, a throw that you've already
- 19:25Speaker 2: referenced that was good. It was third and eight in
- 19:28Speaker 2: the second quarter where Hertz goes to Wicks for 10
- 19:31Speaker 2: yards on third and eight. And I really want to
- 19:33Speaker 2: bring this up because you made a note to point
- 19:36Speaker 2: out the number of times the Eagles decided to go
- 19:39Speaker 2: spread empty.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Oh, they did. I think first three out of four
- 19:44Speaker 1: third downs, they went empty. Yeah.
- 19:46Speaker 2: And do you think that that was a response to the,
- 19:48Speaker 2: how much teams have been mugging them up and trying
- 19:51Speaker 2: to come out and give them more answers?
- 19:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:54Speaker 1: I mean, look, theoretically, when you go empty, the quarterback
- 19:57Speaker 1: can see it's, you know, better and defenses do have
- 20:00Speaker 1: to spread. Some don't, some will say, Hey, you know,
- 20:02Speaker 1: we're going after the quarterback, but you know, a lot
- 20:04Speaker 1: of times defenses will spread out, you know, and, and,
- 20:07Speaker 1: and therefore they don't pressure. But on this one, they did.
- 20:10Speaker 1: And this is the one where they had a free hitter, right?
- 20:11Speaker 1: And see, this is a case where Rick Wicks read
- 20:14Speaker 1: it too. You know, this wasn't just Jalen reading it.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Wicks had to read this too. So the guy over
- 20:20Speaker 1: Wicks becomes a free hitter. And you'll see it right there.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Now look at Wicks turn right around. I mean, you
- 20:27Speaker 1: got to do that. I mean, how many times have
- 20:29Speaker 1: we seen, not just with the Eagles, but I see
- 20:30Speaker 1: it all the time where something like this will happen
- 20:33Speaker 1: and receivers just run their routes and the quarterback has
- 20:35Speaker 1: nowhere to throw the ball. And then people blame the quarterback.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Good job by Wicks.
- 20:39Speaker 2: He also gave him a hand signal. I didn't have
- 20:41Speaker 2: it there. I probably cut it. But he had given
- 20:43Speaker 2: him a hand signal before the snap. He knew that
- 20:45Speaker 2: guy was coming and that he was going to be
- 20:47Speaker 2: the free rusher.
- 20:48Speaker 1: You know, like these are important plays in games. I mean,
- 20:51Speaker 1: I know they lost, but those are important plays. They're
- 20:53Speaker 1: not explosive plays that people see on, you know, highlight
- 20:57Speaker 1: shows over and over again. But those are the plays
- 20:59Speaker 1: you've got to make. Right.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Now we're going to look at a two-play sequence where
- 21:03Speaker 2: I think Hurts– I'm going to assume you're going to
- 21:06Speaker 2: say he should have thrown the ball somewhere. We'll talk
- 21:08Speaker 2: about it. But then on the very next throw, he
- 21:10Speaker 2: comes back and makes a really nice one. This is
- 21:12Speaker 2: second and 10 in the third quarter where he winds
- 21:14Speaker 2: up throwing incomplete to Ertz, Greg.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Oh, this was the one where he had wicks on
- 21:18Speaker 1: the bender versus quarters on second and 10? Yeah. Like
- 21:22Speaker 1: this is a throw you got to make.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Okay. What happens here? Let's describe it in motion.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Yeah. So it's to the right. I believe it's to
- 21:28Speaker 1: the right side, right? Yes. Yeah. So this is quarters coverage.
- 21:32Speaker 1: It's his own concept. And so what happens is, see,
- 21:36Speaker 1: right now, look at the defender. I'm trying to let
- 21:39Speaker 1: the audience know which defender I'm looking at. It's the
- 21:42Speaker 1: defender who starts on the hash closest to us. That's
- 21:45Speaker 1: the way the audience will see it, correct? On the
- 21:47Speaker 1: hash closest to us?
- 21:48Speaker 2: Yep, they see what you see, yep.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Okay, so look at the defender on the hash closest
- 21:52Speaker 1: to us. Okay, the ball snapped. Look how he turns
- 21:55Speaker 1: his body. So right now, he can't play anything behind
- 21:58Speaker 1: him and inside of him. Just body position. And by
- 22:01Speaker 1: the way, that's how quarterbacks are often taught. It's body position.
- 22:05Speaker 1: So right now, because he knows he has Ertz occupying
- 22:09Speaker 1: the mic in the middle of the field, when Wicks
- 22:12Speaker 1: runs the bender right behind, in the NFL, that's wide open.
- 22:17Speaker 3: You've got to make that throw.
- 22:18Speaker 1: You've got to make that throw.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I'm almost positive in week one against Washington, they ran
- 22:24Speaker 2: a similar kind of play and we showed him making
- 22:26Speaker 2: the throw there. You've got to.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Make that throw. In the NFL, that's pitch and catch.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Hey, football is heating up and everyone's pulling up because

- 24:48Speaker 2: So that actually set up this next play, which is
- 24:51Speaker 2: third and 10, and Hertz makes a much better read
- 24:53Speaker 2: and throw on it. This is, I think you talked
- 24:55Speaker 2: about it, to Wicks, right, for 18 yards?
- 24:58Speaker 1: Is this the third and 10? This is the well-designed
- 25:00Speaker 1: man-beater concept versus cover one robber out of dime?
- 25:03Speaker 2: That is correct.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Stack alignment with the natural rub. Yep. If you look
- 25:08Speaker 1: up top, it's a stack element. They've got the natural rub.
- 25:11Speaker 1: They're going to end up changing the picture to cover
- 25:14Speaker 1: one robber. And you can see it. And they've got Cooper, essentially,
- 25:19Speaker 1: the natural rub element. You can see it up top.
- 25:21Speaker 1: That's where everybody's eye should go up top. It's a
- 25:24Speaker 1: natural rub. And then Wicks goes right inside. And the
- 25:28Speaker 1: timing is there. You see him. He just hits his
- 25:30Speaker 1: back foot and falls out.
- 25:32Speaker 2: That's what you just said right there. Hits the back foot,
- 25:34Speaker 2: the ball is out.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Decisive. Absolutely.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Made decisive.
- 25:39Speaker 1: You can't be late on that because you got a
- 25:41Speaker 1: robber player. If you wait an extra beat, then the
- 25:43Speaker 1: robber comes into play. Right.
- 25:47Speaker 2: And then this one is, I've already forgotten what I
- 25:50Speaker 2: got here. They were in spread. I wanted to show
- 25:52Speaker 2: them again.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Look at Lampkin. Hold up.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Wow.
- 25:55Speaker 1: That's impressive.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Oh, that's what we– thank you.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 25:58Speaker 2: This was a Lampkin– This was.
- 25:59Speaker 1: The pass interference, the DPI on Hunter against Wicks. I mean,
- 26:04Speaker 1: this is– Touchdown.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Competing. Watch him get low man wins. Watch him get low.
- 26:08Speaker 1: It's incredible.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Look at Lampkin.
- 26:10Speaker 1: That guy is– Lampkin did a great job here. I
- 26:12Speaker 1: made that point in my notes. This was a play
- 26:15Speaker 1: where he did an unbelievably great job. Look at him.
- 26:17Speaker 1: He stones him.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Wow.
- 26:19Speaker 2: We're going to look at it from the other angle, too.
- 26:21Speaker 2: And by the way, that's Trevon Walker.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Is it not? It's Trevon Walker.
- 26:24Speaker 3: As you told us in the pregame, he lines up
- 26:26Speaker 3: inside a lot.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I told you that. Yep.
- 26:29Speaker 2: There he is at the three technique position.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Look at that.
- 26:34Speaker 2: Look at that building a house right there from.
- 26:36Speaker 1: The lower body. See, now this was a good throw
- 26:38Speaker 1: by Hertz. I mean, obviously, if he's not held, that's
- 26:41Speaker 1: probably an easy touchdown. But there's a lot of bodies there.
- 26:44Speaker 1: So this was an example where he made a window throw.
- 26:46Speaker 1: That was a good throw.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Right. All right, so that penalty puts them right inside
- 26:51Speaker 2: the five. And two plays later, we're going to see
- 26:52Speaker 2: another Lampkin and Majors block here for the touchdown.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, this was a really good block by Lampkin.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Willie, and he finished it.
- 27:02Speaker 1: Yeah. And by the way, on that previous play, and
- 27:05Speaker 1: I had this conversation, I've had this conversation with personnel people.
- 27:08Speaker 1: The one thing that's very hard to determine when you
- 27:11Speaker 1: watch college quarterbacks, and I just thought of it with
- 27:14Speaker 1: that throw, is– What's the difference between anticipation and predetermination? See,
- 27:20Speaker 1: a lot of times you can have a play where, hey,
- 27:23Speaker 1: this guy's the primary. So the quarterback is throwing it
- 27:26Speaker 1: there literally for, you know, when he takes a snap. Right.
- 27:29Speaker 1: And if it ends up being where there's a window
- 27:31Speaker 1: or he's open, you go, wow, what anticipation? But that
- 27:34Speaker 1: might have been where he's going no matter what. And
- 27:36Speaker 1: you know what? It happened to be open. So is
- 27:39Speaker 1: that anticipation or was, hey, that's the play. And the guy,
- 27:42Speaker 1: you know, and it was there.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Kind of like an RPO slant, right?
- 27:46Speaker 1: Right. That's a very hard thing when you're evaluating college
- 27:49Speaker 1: quarterbacks to try to figure out the difference between predetermination
- 27:53Speaker 1: and true anticipation.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Right. All right. This is the end zone view of
- 27:58Speaker 2: Lampkin on that block.
- 27:59Speaker 1: Yeah, he does a great job here.
- 28:01Speaker 2: I also thought Majors was really fighting hard there on
- 28:04Speaker 2: that block.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Look at him.
- 28:06Speaker 2: I mean, he's finishing that thing all the way to
- 28:08Speaker 2: the end zone.
- 28:10Speaker 1: When you're in interior alignment and it took me– a
- 28:12Speaker 1: couple of years when I first really started evaluating to
- 28:15Speaker 1: learn this, because I always, I started out thinking, Oh,
- 28:18Speaker 1: let me see if they're athletes. And what I learned,
- 28:20Speaker 1: you know, after a couple of years, probably because I
- 28:22Speaker 1: was slow in learning it, but I learned for the
- 28:25Speaker 1: interior offensive lineman, it's not a beauty contest, man. You
- 28:29Speaker 1: just got to battle. You got to battle. Exactly. You know,
- 28:32Speaker 1: and the guy who really taught me that, and you
- 28:34Speaker 1: might remember this guy, there was an, an offensive guard
- 28:37Speaker 1: who came out of North Carolina named John Cooper. Remember
- 28:40Speaker 1: John Cooper? John Cooper.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Wait, first round pick.
- 28:43Speaker 1: He was a top 10 pick, I believe. Yes.
- 28:45Speaker 3: I remember watching tape with you and you're pointing this.
- 28:47Speaker 3: He tripped by the Cardinals, was it?
- 28:49Speaker 1: Maybe. I forget. But he was literally a dancing bear
- 28:52Speaker 1: at offensive guard. And I was like, wow, this guy
- 28:55Speaker 1: is just a superhero.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Big time college player. Isn't he coaching now somewhere?
- 28:58Speaker 1: He could be. But he just didn't play. Not because
- 29:01Speaker 1: he didn't try. I don't want people to think I'm
- 29:03Speaker 1: saying he didn't try. He just didn't have the physicality
- 29:06Speaker 1: and that crazy competitiveness that you need inside. And sometimes
- 29:11Speaker 1: that's what it's about. You know, it's not about looking
- 29:13Speaker 1: pretty when you're playing center and guard.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Well, Greg, I mean, he didn't live up to being
- 29:17Speaker 2: a first pack. Well, what do you know? Why are
- 29:18Speaker 2: you taking advice from that guy?
- 29:20Speaker 3: Right.
- 29:21Speaker 2: How many rings does he have anyway?
- 29:24Speaker 1: All right.
- 29:25Speaker 2: This is the touchdown, Greg. And I still, maybe you
- 29:28Speaker 2: can diagnose. I'm not, other than the long touchdown to Cooper. Yeah,
- 29:32Speaker 2: other than the safety kind of getting caught out of position,
- 29:34Speaker 2: I was shocked. I talked about how do you allow
- 29:37Speaker 2: this on third and 10 if you're the Jags, but
- 29:39Speaker 2: go ahead.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Ahead. Well, this actually took place in the first half, right? Yes. Yeah,
- 29:46Speaker 1: so they went cover one robber. So what happened is
- 29:50Speaker 1: it's not a matter of being out of position, Jeff.
- 29:52Speaker 1: If you run this, it's the safety to that side
- 29:54Speaker 1: is becoming a robber, so there's no safety involved in
- 29:57Speaker 1: this on an outside throw whatsoever. So he just beat
- 29:59Speaker 1: him off the ball. Cooper just beat him right off
- 30:02Speaker 1: the ball. And, you know, the safety is not going
- 30:06Speaker 1: to get there because he's coming from he's rotating into
- 30:09Speaker 1: the deep middle from the opposite hash all the way
- 30:12Speaker 1: on the side of the field.
- 30:13Speaker 2: I was expecting too much from him that that's.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not necessarily poor safety play. He's all the
- 30:18Speaker 1: way on the other side of it. Now you can
- 30:20Speaker 1: sit here and say, could he should he have maybe
- 30:22Speaker 1: made a tackle? That's a different question, but he's not
- 30:24Speaker 1: going to impact the throw.
- 30:26Speaker 2: All right, that's fair. Then we can just appreciate a
- 30:28Speaker 2: nice stacking here.
- 30:30Speaker 1: By the way, Jalen read this. Jalen read that the
- 30:33Speaker 1: safety is rotated. It always reminds me, and Adam will
- 30:36Speaker 1: remember this, the way Jaws always said best located safety.
- 30:39Speaker 1: He sees that that safety is all the way on
- 30:41Speaker 1: the other side of the field. And, yes, he's rotating,
- 30:44Speaker 1: but he's not going to get outside the numbers to
- 30:46Speaker 1: the other side of the field.
- 30:47Speaker 3: Cooper beat the coverage very early in the route.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:51Speaker 3: So Jalen saw it and he got it out.
- 30:52Speaker 1: But I think Jalen– rightly so, was going to throw
- 30:56Speaker 1: this no matter what because Cooper's the throw here. Because
- 30:59Speaker 1: you have a middle robber, a middle hole robber, so
- 31:04Speaker 1: you're not going to work inside.
- 31:06Speaker 3: Jeff, you know what I loved is he was actually
- 31:08Speaker 3: not reduced. He was truly outside anyone.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Yeah, as a plus split.
- 31:12Speaker 3: That is a huge deal because we didn't know that
- 31:15Speaker 3: about Cooper. We're trying to figure out what he is
- 31:17Speaker 3: because they need someone to make him play. Yeah. He
- 31:21Speaker 3: deserves more playing time.
- 31:23Speaker 1: For sure.
- 31:24Speaker 2: All right, the second half.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Is this the play where– this was the play where
- 31:27Speaker 1: they rotated. It looks empty, and then they rotated to
- 31:30Speaker 1: cover two, right? Isn't this the play?
- 31:32Speaker 2: Yeah, so is this one of your examples of Jaguars
- 31:34Speaker 2: do something good, but at the same time the Eagles don't?
- 31:36Speaker 2: Because it looks like the receivers ran into each other
- 31:38Speaker 2: on the screen.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Well, what happened here is Jalen– look, right now it
- 31:42Speaker 1: looks zero. I mean, that's what it looks like. You know,
- 31:45Speaker 1: can't blame Jalen. It looks zero. So he changed the
- 31:48Speaker 1: play to a wide receiver screen, figuring that, you know what,
- 31:52Speaker 1: we– we'll block it up and you know, we'll get there.
- 31:55Speaker 1: But they, so what he changed it. And then what
- 31:57Speaker 1: happened is, is that you have a, you have a
- 32:02Speaker 1: flat player, a corner who's a flat player and that's Lewis.
- 32:05Speaker 1: So he's just, he blows it up. I mean, it's
- 32:09Speaker 1: good defense, you know, the defense one, you know, Anthony
- 32:13Speaker 1: Campanelli beat Jalen on that play. It happens, you know,
- 32:16Speaker 1: it's the NFL. It happens.
- 32:18Speaker 2: So this next play is a sack, and again, this
- 32:20Speaker 2: came at a terrible time for the Eagles. I believe
- 32:23Speaker 2: they had a positive play before it. No, they didn't.
- 32:26Speaker 2: It was second and 10, but they weren't keeping their
- 32:28Speaker 2: own end zone.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Was this the Johnson-Walker sack on second and 10 later
- 32:32Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter?
- 32:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and I couldn't tell if there was a pass
- 32:34Speaker 2: pro mishap. I'm going to let you diagnose it.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Well, this is very interesting, okay? Do you have this
- 32:39Speaker 1: from the end zone?
- 32:41Speaker 2: I do.
- 32:41Speaker 1: If we have it from the end zone, I can
- 32:43Speaker 1: walk people through it, okay? Because I know exactly what happened.
- 32:47Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure I do. Let's look at it from
- 32:49Speaker 2: the aerial view first.
- 32:52Speaker 1: It'll be easier to explain for the audience. If I
- 32:55Speaker 1: show it from the, if we, if I explain it
- 32:56Speaker 1: from the end zone, okay. Freeze right here. Okay. So
- 32:59Speaker 1: since the audience is seeing what I'm seeing, look on
- 33:01Speaker 1: the right side of the screen, you have two defensive
- 33:05Speaker 1: linemen and then you've got a Lukan. Okay. You see,
- 33:08Speaker 1: everybody can see that, right? So now what the Eagles
- 33:11Speaker 1: have here is starting with majors, the left guard and
- 33:14Speaker 1: the left tackle and, they're going to be responsible for
- 33:17Speaker 1: those three. Okay, the two-eye, a Lewakin, and the wide nine.
- 33:21Speaker 1: So you got three to block three, okay? Now on
- 33:24Speaker 1: the other side, the way it looks right now, you
- 33:28Speaker 1: think there's three to block three. You have the right
- 33:31Speaker 1: guard Steen versus the three technique. You've got the right
- 33:34Speaker 1: tackle Bell with the wide nine. And you've got the back,
- 33:38Speaker 1: who I believe is Pierce, looking at number six, okay?
- 33:41Speaker 1: And that's Antonio Johnson, okay? They're probably in there dying.
- 33:45Speaker 1: I think it's Johnson six. Is he six? Yeah.
- 33:47Speaker 2: I believe so, yeah.
- 33:48Speaker 1: So right now, so who's the wild card here? The
- 33:51Speaker 1: wild card's 51. But 51 is on the side of
- 33:55Speaker 1: the other three versus three. So you're uncertain as to
- 33:58Speaker 1: what he's going to do. Now, Pierce can't block both
- 34:01Speaker 1: those guys. So Jalen Hurts, if both of those guys come,
- 34:06Speaker 1: Jalen has to be responsible for one of them.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Okay.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Okay.
- 34:11Speaker 2: And guess what?
- 34:11Speaker 1: Would I explain clear?
- 34:12Speaker 3: Yep.
- 34:13Speaker 1: You think people are going to get it? Is that clear?
- 34:15Speaker 1: So now they both come. Now, the fact that two
- 34:18Speaker 1: guys drop out on the other side is irrelevant. You
- 34:22Speaker 1: can't change the protection in the middle of the play.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:25Speaker 1: So all you can do is maybe some guys can react,
- 34:28Speaker 1: but you can't change the actual protection scheme. Correct. So now,
- 34:33Speaker 1: since 51 is going to come basically crossing the center
- 34:37Speaker 1: to the other side. Mm-hmm. You know, Pierce, I think
- 34:41Speaker 1: Pierce picks up the wrong guy, but that's, I don't
- 34:43Speaker 1: know how they, because I think he has to pick
- 34:45Speaker 1: up the guy closest to the quarterback.
- 34:47Speaker 2: That's what I thought too.
- 34:48Speaker 1: And that would be six. Yeah. But they can't, the
- 34:50Speaker 1: point is the protection can't block both guys. Right.
- 34:53Speaker 2: So there's going to be a free rusher either way.
- 34:55Speaker 2: I would have thought he would pick up the one
- 34:57Speaker 2: that was quicker to the quarterback.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Yes. So I think he picked up the wrong guy
- 35:02Speaker 1: and maybe Jalen felt that he was going to pick
- 35:04Speaker 1: up six. So I'm not going to blame Jalen, but
- 35:06Speaker 1: the bottom line is you can't pick up both guys. Yeah.
- 35:10Speaker 1: And then Bell just gets beat. That's just a one-on-one thing.
- 35:13Speaker 1: He just gets beat.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Absolutely. Honestly, I thought it was a really smart scheme
- 35:17Speaker 2: upplayed by Anthony Campanile, who we talked about. Everything in
- 35:20Speaker 2: life comes down to choice, doesn't it? Whether it's choosing
- 35:23Speaker 2: the team you root for, who you listen to, or
- 35:25Speaker 2: how you power your home, you deserve the freedom to
- 35:28Speaker 2: choose your own adventure. And that goes for your power bill, too.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Right now, across the U.S., Americans have the potential to
- 35:34Speaker 2: harness limitless, clean, affordable energy. We could be powering our hospitals,
- 35:39Speaker 2: our schools, our farms and so much more. In some places,
- 35:43Speaker 2: this abundant local power is already helping lower utility bills
- 35:47Speaker 2: and creating jobs. But depending on where you live, you
- 35:50Speaker 2: may not have the option to choose limitless energy for
- 35:53Speaker 2: your household. That has to change. We should all get
- 35:56Speaker 2: to choose the energy we pay for. Cheaper, cleaner, limitless
- 36:01Speaker 2: energy is out there. Let's find more ways to use it.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Head over to energylimitless.com to learn more about your energy options. Hey,

- 37:00Speaker 2: Camden Apothecary. Top quality cannabis, great prices, and an experience
- 37:05Speaker 2: made for Philly fans 21 and up. Yeah, and that's
- 37:09Speaker 2: kind of like what the second half looked like for
- 37:10Speaker 2: the Eagles. There was a lot of Good scheming on
- 37:13Speaker 2: Jacksonville's part, unable for the Eagles to run the ball
- 37:16Speaker 2: and move it, and then being in those kind of–
- 37:18Speaker 2: those plays can only happen, really, theoretically, when you're in
- 37:22Speaker 2: third and longs. You're giving the defense a chance to
- 37:24Speaker 2: tee off on you.
- 37:25Speaker 1: I think the wrap-up point, Jeff, and you kind of
- 37:27Speaker 1: hit this and we talked about it as well throughout
- 37:29Speaker 1: this offensive session, is when you can't run the ball
- 37:33Speaker 1: and there's no continuity to your offense, everything comes down
- 37:36Speaker 1: to a play here and a play there because there's
- 37:39Speaker 1: no rhythm to your offense. So if those play here
- 37:42Speaker 1: and play there don't work in your favor, it makes
- 37:45Speaker 1: it look like the offense is really bad. Right. Because
- 37:48Speaker 1: there's no continuity. There's nothing, you know, you know, I
- 37:51Speaker 1: think that's clear. You know, there's no, yeah, there's no,
- 37:54Speaker 1: there were no second and threes, you know, there was
- 37:56Speaker 1: nowhere where the playbooks open and you can kind of
- 37:58Speaker 1: do whatever you want. Yes. Yeah.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Well, listen, by the time we do this next show,
- 38:04Speaker 2: we may be talking about a Devante Smith return. We
- 38:06Speaker 2: may be talking about, a Saquon Barkley return. We might
- 38:09Speaker 2: be talking about either a Kendall or a Landon Dickerson return.
- 38:13Speaker 2: I have a hard time thinking we're going to be
- 38:15Speaker 2: talking about fewer options because the Eagles are at rock bottom.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Don't jinx them.
- 38:19Speaker 3: I know.
- 38:20Speaker 2: We'll knock on wood that when we diagnose the game
- 38:23Speaker 2: against the Panthers next weekend, that at least they had
- 38:24Speaker 2: some more offensive power to give us a better evaluation.
- 38:28Speaker 2: That's going to do it for this episode of Inside
- 38:30Speaker 2: the Tape on Inside the Birds for Greg Cosell and
- 38:34Speaker 2: Adam Kaplan. I'm Jeff Mosher. Make sure you catch our
- 38:37Speaker 2: defense version on the next one.
