- 0:08[SPEAKER_27]: This is CBS News on the hour.

- 0:13[SPEAKER_03]: I'm Steve Kathen, the FAA this morning reopened the airspace at the airport in El Paso, Texas, just hours after it announced a 10-day closure that grounded all flights, blamed on concern, over Mexican drug cartel drones.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_35]: This should have never happened.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_03]: El Paso Mayor Renard Johnson says local leaders were in the dark, is it all unfolded?
- 0:35[SPEAKER_35]: You cannot.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_35]: restrict airspace over a major city without coordinating with the city, the airport, the hospitals, the community leadership, that failure to communicate is unacceptable.

- 1:12[SPEAKER_32]: Mr. Chairman, why have I asked him?
- 1:15[SPEAKER_32]: She asked Merritt Garland this.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_26]: Oh, reclaiming my eye and when I will claim my chance, it will determine the generality reclaiming time.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_32]: I'm not getting the gutter for her theatrics.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_03]: Like a Wallace CBS News, a mass shooting in Western Canada with victims at a school and nearby home, CBS's Ramey and Ascencia.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_22]: They found victims in the hallways, the classrooms, based on the reports, six were confirmed dead, one died on the way to the hospital, two more than were found dead at a home nearby.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_22]: And please believe that that home is linked to these attacks and best to say that the suspected shooter is a woman, found dead inside that school from what they're saying is a self-infected injury.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_03]: So Arizona and the Nancy Guthrie investigation, CBS's Anna Schecter says a man who was detained
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: they searched his vehicles, his home.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: He told us that he didn't really ask him many questions, but he was handcuffed for about two hours, he said, and then release.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: So he probably has nothing to do with this case, but this does happen on these manhunts, especially multi-day searches for a perpetrator.

- 7:23[SPEAKER_09]: All right, we're back.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_09]: Here we are in the show of shows.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know why somebody pushes that button.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_09]: But they do, and I'm sorry about that.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_09]: So we're on the show of shows today.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_09]: The hotline.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_09]: Good afternoon.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_09]: You want it all.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_09]: It's a Wednesday.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_09]: And here we are.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_09]: Here we are.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know what these other buttons are here, but they're on, so we'll leave them on.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_09]: Anyway, 755, 1240, the phone number, if you'd like to give us a call to be on the show of shows today.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_09]: And anyway, you have bad bunny.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_09]: Congressman from Tennessee calls it pure smot.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_09]: For if that was played in your workplace, that could be considered a hostile work environment, so be careful of that bad bunny stuff.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_09]: uh... let's see what's going on here as shooting up in Canada that's tragic although they say well it's an american friend no happen in british Columbia and it was a woman this time not a trance a real woman wearing a dress uh... let's see what's going on uh... haven't heard anything new one millie uh... let's see uh...
- 8:53[SPEAKER_09]: You know, we live in a very price-conscious market here, no matter what your business is, it's very hard to increase prices.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_09]: You know what I mean?
- 9:05[SPEAKER_09]: So, no, it's, uh, and a lot of times you have to eat it and see what happens.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_09]: You know, used to be National NIMO had a happy face when Paul Fort was there and Don Wolfe and those people.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_09]: I don't even know who runs it now.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_09]: uh... the gothry thing nothing new although all of those uh... that porch video came out it's kind of interesting how they retrieve that and uh... that was a lead story and tv seven again today so we have a common sense of consciousness about the issue now that's good what about was there a local news story about the billboard on route three near black river that urging troops at fort drum to disobey illegal orders
- 9:55[SPEAKER_09]: It's in the news again because it was a grand jury that failed or in date those members of Congress.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_09]: And I don't think they should have.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_09]: You know, it is a speech issue, but I don't know how much was spent on that.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_09]: How much did Lamar advertising get out of that?
- 10:12[SPEAKER_09]: Some people say it's treasonous.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_09]: Some people say that, not me.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_09]: And Friday and the show, a special treat.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_09]: City Councilman Ben shown will be here.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_09]: Mr. Schoen calling me a short time ago saying would you like me to come in for ideas?
- 10:30[SPEAKER_09]: Sure.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_09]: Why not?
- 10:31[SPEAKER_09]: Talk about taxes, whatever.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_09]: And the weather.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_09]: Well, it was a little above freezing yesterday.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_09]: It's a little below freezing today.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_09]: Temperatures are more moderate than they were on a weekend, but still were in the throws of an old fashioned winter.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_09]: And the chilly temperatures are going to continue all week
- 10:53[SPEAKER_09]: but nothing to get the icicles off your house yet.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_09]: But it's only February 11, so, you know, there you go.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_09]: Lotta sound bites on yesterday's news junkie from the hotline, concerning this budget stuff, including things I said, things the angry man said.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_09]: Now Mayor Pierce says she wants feedback from city residents are ways to cut the budget.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_09]: Well, no better place to get it, man.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_09]: Then, right here, sitting right next to me.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_09]: Next to that microphone, I'm looking at it right now.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_09]: You can get some suggestions, but you're supposed to know what the suggestions are.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_09]: So we'll see.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_09]: But my, I restated my proposal for a zero tax increase budget and then let the council add things.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_09]: Let's hear that again.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_09]: That was pretty good.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_09]: And that made a lot of sense.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_09]: Didn't you think so?
- 11:57[SPEAKER_09]: No, I thought so.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_09]: Oh boy.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_09]: Oh my god, nobody cares about this.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_09]: City Hall rather than, oh tonight they're going to have, and this might interest our neighbor next door.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_09]: But tonight they're going to have a budget session.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_09]: It's a little early with a normal and it's prior to the dock for forced docking and being released.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_09]: which is a good thing.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_09]: I think that was Derabran's idea.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_09]: So, Riverside, you know, was good for them.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_09]: But by getting it up, you see, once the bug proposed, budget is released.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_09]: And the issue is framed.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_09]: This is what it is.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_09]: This is the spending plan.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_09]: And if you are just a downward, coastal, cut-and-drops, and that's a good thing.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_09]: And they don't want to do that.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_09]: That's why I said if you have these discussions and you'll put a marker down.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_09]: If you're going to have this city manager former governor who doesn't make the guy do his job, you put a marker down, say we don't want any checks and groups.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_09]: We've got seniors in this community who are paying like a double on their electric bills right now.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_09]: They can't afford it.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_09]: Some people can't.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_09]: Some members of city council can't.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_09]: A lot of people in the town, they can afford it, but why should they have to?
- 13:23[SPEAKER_09]: Why should they have to suffer that way?
- 13:27[SPEAKER_09]: So what if council say we don't want to check, increase?
- 13:30[SPEAKER_09]: What do you get through though?
- 13:32[SPEAKER_09]: Get through though?
- 13:33[SPEAKER_09]: Sure you can.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_09]: Say you're making 180, that was in the air, whenever you're making it, it's got a raise.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_09]: Suppose a budget?
- 13:44[SPEAKER_09]: with no tax increase.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_09]: Now if we want to add jobs back in you can, that'd be about a twenty-five job cut.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_09]: If you want to add them back in you can.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_09]: That was me, yesterday.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_09]: Speaking truth the power I guess.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_09]: Good afternoon around the air.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_18]: Hello, Mayor Grant.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_18]: How are you doing?
- 14:16[SPEAKER_18]: Sure, I believe that we should sell a golf course and that we should stop giving money to the zoo.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_09]: Mm-hmm.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_18]: That's pretty much it.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_18]: I can't really come up with much more.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_09]: Are you in favor of cutting any jobs?
- 14:45[SPEAKER_18]: I worked for the city and, you know, I certainly didn't like the idea when they were talking about the chopping block, but it looks like it's going to have to happen.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_09]: Well, do you remember back in the around 89 when Larry Cook was in and there was a great bloodletting?
- 15:04[SPEAKER_18]: I remember it very well, there was a lot of controversy about what happened in our department because they let people go that were
- 15:15[SPEAKER_09]: Was that public works?
- 15:17[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_18]: OK.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_18]: Uh, it was a bad time, and it wasn't the best time.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_18]: I think they looked at what was going on with the department, and they said we're going to do a way with what we can afford to let go, and they did it.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_09]: But I don't think this council is willing to do that.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_18]: Yeah, I know I don't want to lay blame on former counsel people, but we got to do a lot of trouble because they spent money on things that we probably shouldn't have been doing, having.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_18]: I don't believe the city of Watertown exists to be everybody's entertainment.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_17]: Right.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_09]: I don't follow that path.
- 16:14[UNKNOWN]: Okay.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_18]: uh... i never use the pools uh... and i really don't think that we should be spending all the money like they have been on entertainment i'm sorry to say i pay very high school tax rate and i have no say and what goes on at my school i say that because i graduated from there none of my grandkids go there
- 16:48[SPEAKER_09]: I just think that they should stop for the stop with the nonsense and rain in the spending.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_09]: Mm-hmm.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_09]: Okay, well we'll see what they do.
- 16:57[UNKNOWN]: Well, all righty.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_09]: All right, thank you, sir.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_09]: Bye now.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_09]: Bye.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_09]: Good afternoon, you're on the air.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, we lost that word.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, a lot of thoughts on it.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_09]: Obviously, we heard the angry man yesterday.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_09]: He was, he didn't pull any punches.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_09]: We heard Mr. Batista.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_09]: He never pulls any punches.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_09]: But on the other hand,
- 17:14[SPEAKER_09]: We just got a text message, you plant tomatoes, you get tomatoes, stop the spending this person says.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_09]: Another person says this council has a deer in the headlight look on the turf of the term attrition.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_09]: This person says something, maybe we should have went with a deputy city manager, I don't know what that means.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_17]: people are commenting people have opinions yep but after duty on the air uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... i agree with the previous japan uh... should not be paying for uh... had to pay me to their recreation and sort of stuff mm-hmm and uh... i like to make one of the suggestion which uh...
- 18:17[SPEAKER_17]: which he doesn't think is crazy and they get extreme but what should happen I think is they should start for the budget of zero and any anything that they want to add to it they need to justify it in writing and in detail before they had any expense for anything right rather i think they're afraid one thing that happens with budgets
- 18:43[SPEAKER_09]: And, you know, this is the city that is what it is, but, you know, we have certain number in each department, let's say police, and that's viewed as, well, that's full staffing.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_09]: You have to have that.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_09]: Well, who's to say, who's to say, what's what?
- 18:59[SPEAKER_09]: So, or same with fire, same with anything else.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_09]: Now, we do have, you know, it is kind of difficult to, areas like, keeping the water
- 19:13[SPEAKER_17]: flowing in all of that with a number of people we have there are shortages but i don't know i i don't hate anybody who has any of these jobs but there's a lot of money being spent what do you think yeah i i was uh... too much money being spent at this point uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... you got to stop with zero uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh... uh...
- 19:43[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know, I don't, I don't, well, maybe we'll find out from Mr.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_09]: Shown on Friday, but I don't see the council willing to tackle that.
- 19:59[SPEAKER_17]: I think they're pretty much locked into the status quo and they're going to nibble around the edges.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, and I mean candidly, you know, I can remember when the city budget was bigger than the school budget.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_09]: Now the city budget is half of what the school budget is.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_09]: So, you know, to be fair, there are other areas that have gone up exponentially even more.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_09]: And again, I'm not saying that to be mean to teachers or administrators or anybody.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_09]: I'm just saying it's the fact.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_09]: You know the county budget I can remember when Jim Merritt was county budget officer remember what the dollar figures were now It's in the hundreds of millions of dollars so You know candidly there's a there's a lot of spend and going on all over in the cities probably not the most guilty But it's the most visible Yeah You know the school taxes look
- 21:02[SPEAKER_17]: I guess they're all like I get grandkids and then I'll leave here it'll hide by baseball taxes nonetheless and I have no say in school well listen I don't either but what I'd like to know is is there any monitor of the results of the school here no education is getting you well I don't know maybe it maybe it's good I don't know I mean it's hard to when every day he's delayed to hours but it's
- 21:29[SPEAKER_09]: the difficult thing.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_09]: They just gave the superintendent a 4.2% raise and you say, well, he's a nice guy and everybody likes them and all that, but it's not a question of whether you want to give some, I want to give you money, sir, but I, you know, I just don't have the extra cash in my pocket.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_09]: Because I got a guy.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_09]: I've, I haven't got no raises on the, in five years.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 21:53[UNKNOWN]: I work for a five corporation, and I haven't got the raise in five years because it's just
- 22:00[SPEAKER_09]: Exactly.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_09]: There is business in the business, you know, to make money when they don't have it, they don't give it out.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_09]: I remember back in the in the late 80s that, yeah, Channel 50, when they were cutting back the news department, the standard joke in the office was I wonder how much this year's pay cut is going to be.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_09]: So, I mean, yeah, there's not everything doesn't always have to go up.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_17]: I think that everything does go up for some reason.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_17]: I don't know, you know, these people, they, I don't know the folks with the, uh, the salary of, uh, superintendent.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_09]: Well, the school board, but they're pretty much a, holy own subsidiary of the said superintendent.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_09]: So they don't look at poor milly there.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_09]: She spoke up and look what they did to her.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_17]: Yeah, well, I'm not familiar with all, uh,
- 22:58[SPEAKER_17]: I know in Congress, I don't know what's going on locally, I mean Congress both themselves races and obviously could say anything about, you know, they're nothing they both themselves races.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_17]: Because they want to, and they just sponge the taxpayers, the taxpayers, you know, we're just, you know, we're just, we're just, we're just, we're just, we're only unwilling participants.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, okay, well, we'll uh, hope for better weather and soldier on, okay.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_21]: Yeah, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh
- 24:01[SPEAKER_21]: a little bit higher every year to cover the expenses, everything that the city has and does.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_21]: Those up, well, why to be up every single year and they don't have enough tech, they never had enough touch money to keep in law, try to keep in somewhat in line with what it costs to run the city.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_21]: Well, everybody goes, well, I'd like to see 0%.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_14]: Uh-huh.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_21]: You know, percent, who's going to pay for all the, uh, expenses that go sky high?
- 24:36[SPEAKER_09]: Well, you've got to remember a couple of things over the last 20 years.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_09]: One thing was the explosion of sales tax revenue because of a renegotiated contract that was favorable to the city that got us more money.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_09]: So we had more coming in so we didn't have to rely on sales tax some years.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_09]: There were years when this property tax went up significantly when I was around there.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_09]: I still hear about it from some people.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_09]: I don't necessarily buy that and certainly in recent years it's been going up at a pretty pretty good clip.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_21]: We've had managers over the years, say the exact same thing I just said to you at meetings that they haven't kept in line with what the expenses are and one expense
- 25:30[SPEAKER_21]: that they got to think hard about.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_21]: In my estimation, there's not one single raise.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_21]: They have to.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_21]: The city cannot afford the upkeep that it needs for the city.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_21]: It can't afford to keep giving raises every single year when the property tax people.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_21]: which are mostly elderly, they don't get to anything like that.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_21]: They're driving the people out of the city, but I would say they should go zero pay raises from next three or four years to see what's going on.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_21]: Everybody and work for the city makes pretty healthy wage.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_21]: Even the DPW boys, they make a lot of money all winter long.
- 26:28[SPEAKER_21]: and their pay rates are pretty decent and as far as your fire and police are all making big bucks you know you might say well a big bucks you know I have to fight a fire well you don't have to fight a fire you can find another job but if you looked up the pay scales on the fire and police they're pretty darn high I mean for a town that can't afford anything I mean they're I'll tell you something there
- 26:56[SPEAKER_21]: If this thing's so straight around, this town is going to go bankrupt.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_21]: And the only way they're going to chapter 11, the whole thing's off because we, they really haven't got the money for all the expenses that are coming.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_21]: Thanks, Mayor.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_09]: Thank you.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I know.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_09]: I mean, we have a person at City Hall who, when there are full-time jobs, denying foil requests.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_09]: No.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_09]: Can you have that luxury?
- 27:23[SPEAKER_09]: But after dinner on the air,
- 27:26[SPEAKER_16]: new job.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_16]: Hey, question for you.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_16]: Maybe that's a double problem.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_16]: Oh, why can't it be, you don't have any children in the school system?
- 27:38[SPEAKER_16]: They got paper the next 60, 70 years to the school system, which is uncontrollable.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_16]: Once you just eliminate that, the people can use their tax, more than they go to the school system to where they live.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_16]: send you your money to the school system that you don't have no pay yet.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_09]: Right.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_16]: Right.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_16]: Right there.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_16]: Right there.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_16]: We'll sell the problem.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_16]: You took all the money they get for taxes for the school, you give it to the city.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_16]: There you go.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_16]: Now you got a nice rent city and you don't have to bow down to the school system.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_16]: Give them money that they don't have to answer for and they got brick and money up the ingang, hundreds of millions of dollars to run the school system.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_16]: mm-hmm.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_16]: I thought it was a program that's coming down the line or something that talked about, you got to a certain age that you didn't need to pay in more school taxes.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_09]: Well, you could make that argument for a lot of things.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_16]: I mean, you know, I haven't... Would you pay for something that you're not even using?
- 28:47[SPEAKER_16]: Well, I don't care that there's a school for the last 50 years.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_09]: What if you don't swim in the pool for a lot of years?
- 28:53[SPEAKER_09]: You know, I don't know.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_09]: I don't play golf either.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_09]: I'm paying for it.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_16]: Well, but you can't pay for everything, Jeff, that's the problem.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_16]: You can't pay for everything, and then you've got a secretary for office, and then you've got a system manager for office, and then you've got the manager for office, and you've got a supervisor.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_16]: You've got five steps on the same job, except just one position, and that job, you're paying
- 29:28[SPEAKER_16]: well anyway i don't know about that but uh... and then you got it all of that and they're all going through a ten thousand dollar door every day so uh... who knows well there you go right some got to give some place you get some unsustainable that's what it is and like for example you'll hear them say uh... there's only gets a hundred thousand dollars so i mean what they're going to the budget well if you if you turn that by ten
- 29:54[SPEAKER_09]: 100,000 here 100,000 there before you know you got a million mm-hmm people that live on a budget you know you got to break it down the little bit of saving here and there before you know it all these pennies add up well those I think those appropriations are going to get caught out this year because they zoo people have said they're getting a ton of money through private donations so we'll take them at their work
- 30:22[SPEAKER_09]: And then, well, my prediction is that it doesn't happen this year with the exception of one council member.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_09]: So anyway, that's it.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_09]: I got a runner, okay?
- 30:30[SPEAKER_09]: Thank you.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_09]: Thank you.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_09]: I know, back with more in a moment.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_11]: Wow, what happened there?
- 30:41[SPEAKER_11]: Around the corner, around the continent, around the clock.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_11]: This is the news in talk authority, AM-1240.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_11]: W-A-T-A.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_26]: The Democrats want to push President Trump out of office.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_26]: So how do they do it?
- 30:55[SPEAKER_26]: By taking over Congress in the midterms, they're targeting dozens of districts including our New York 21.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_26]: So the question is, are you ready?
- 31:04[SPEAKER_26]: Anthony Constantino is.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_26]: Anthony Constantino isn't an Albany politician.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_26]: He's a successful businessman.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_26]: The CEO of Sticker Mule, a wildly successful company headquartered right here in Amsterdam, New York.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_26]: He's built real businesses, created real jobs, and he knows what it takes to grow an economy from the ground up.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_26]: Anthony Constantino is a proven outsider with grassroots Republican values and the backbone to stand with President Trump.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_26]: Now he's running as the Republican nominee for New York's 21st Congressional District, fighting for economic growth, strong national security, and practical leadership that actually works.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_26]: The Democrats want Trump out.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_26]: We need Anthony Constantine O. M.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_05]: I'm Anthony Gazzettino and I approve this message.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_05]: Paid for by Constantino for Congress.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_34]: Bring us finally in the air.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_34]: Or almost anyway, it's getting ranclery.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_34]: That's why she's preparing Mitsubishi.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_34]: And we're kicking things off in a big way with the Sprink sale investor.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_34]: Right now, save on a brand new Mitsubishi outlander or the outlander PHV.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_34]: That's the SUV that lets you drive a electric when you want and gas when you need it.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_34]: get 72 months and 0% financing or score up to $4,500 in rebates.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_34]: That's real savings right now.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_34]: And don't miss the National Mitsubishi Test drive event happening February 20th and 21st.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_34]: Here's the front part, test drive any Mitsubishi get a $50 gift card just for driving.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_34]: One test drive for household, but hey, $50, $50, $60.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_34]: New season, new ride, real incentive.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_34]: It's all happening at the new FX Perum Mitsubishi on outer Washington 3.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_34]: Check out all the inventory at FXMitsubishi.com.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_34]: Spring starts here.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_07]: I'm Chris Shorty, and I'm Steve Boot, and we're the co-owners of celebrations to the North Country's newest jewelry destination.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_08]: We spent decades in the corporate world, hitting goals, having great days, and then it was always on to the next one.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_08]: For years I kept telling Chris, we should do this on our own.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_07]: And that's exactly why we chose the name celebration.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_08]: Because when someone walks through our doors, they're celebrating something, and being trusted with those moments is incredibly humbling.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_07]: We wanted to build a store where people feel comfortable walking in, jewelry shopping shouldn't feel overwhelming.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_07]: No matter your budget, everyone deserves to feel taken care of.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_08]: You'll see us in ballcaps and genes, not because we don't care, but because we've done the corporate suits.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_08]: What matters is our knowledge, our character, and how we treat everyone who walks through our doors.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_08]: When you walk into celebrations, we want it to feel like you're walking into our home.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_08]: That's what being locally owned means to us.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_08]: We're invested in this community.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_08]: So stop and see us.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_04]: Today at celebrations, located in the Watertown Spectrum Plaza right across the street from Texas Roadhouse.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_11]: The world can change in just seconds.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_11]: We'll bring you the latest in just minutes at the top of the hour on AM1240 WATN.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_09]: Hey, I'm 1240 WATN or somebody from grid over to Pearl Street checking.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_09]: Checking why those gas meters have been estimated for a month, a month, a month, a month.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_09]: I wish I was there or if there's, you know.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_09]: The right questions never get asked unless you're there.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_09]: And I'm not being hostile.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_09]: I talked to one of their reps on the phone the other day.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_09]: He was scored a line of scores.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_09]: I'm almost scored.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know how to eat the light, but I mean, after I sit there and be happy about it, you know, I've got some people who write into my blog.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, I'm wouldn't even complain about that for just pay it.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_09]: You can't afford to get out.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, what a simple simple to in remark that is no like to get out, huh?
- 34:53[SPEAKER_09]: I don't say that to people.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_09]: So, I don't know who knows.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_09]: Anyway, um, let's see.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_09]: Talk to you about the weather.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_09]: Did we?
- 35:13[SPEAKER_09]: You got all these farmers all minack predictions coming out saying it's going to be a warm spring out of I believe it but the weather the bitter cold is over for the from last weekend but it's going to be seasonal all week and then slightly warmer beginning and next week not enough to get rid of that ice so the ice is going to be there all righty
- 35:43[SPEAKER_09]: Somebody wanted me to, um, in your war in listeners about using protection for Valentine's Day encounters.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know, is that's my business?
- 35:57[SPEAKER_09]: And I don't think Valentine's Day is what it used to be.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_09]: People aren't sweet on one another, you know, that stuff gives somebody some poses.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_09]: And that's those in the old days.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_09]: That's why Scott Gray's in the state legislature and not selling flowers because people don't They don't do that anymore.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_09]: And... Oh, we got a call coming in?
- 36:31[SPEAKER_09]: Good.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_09]: But after you're doing you're on the air.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_32]: talking to somebody about this this morning about I think with the city trying to cut expenses and expenses and whatnot.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_32]: But is there something somewhere that says the city has to provide trust service because I think you're talking about this the other day where I really think the city should just pull out of the trash service.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_32]: I don't really feel like there's a need for it.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_32]: I feel like this is all, you know, if people have a business wants trust, they're not going to be able to do that.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_32]: And I think if the better service, I mean, I can tell you I've had both city and private services before.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_32]: And the city is very anal about how you put your cycling out.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_32]: And if it's not to their specifications, I mean, they won't pick it up.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_32]: I mean, they just pass that new law now with the trash bins, which, you know, whatever on it, I guess.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_32]: But I mean, there are still people are shocked about it.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_32]: So I don't know.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_32]: I just think the city should be pulling out of the trash service,
- 37:30[SPEAKER_32]: try to save money and I know somebody tried to say well they you know they made 170 thousand dollar profit last year like well was it really a profit though because I'm pretty sure it was last year they were having to spend I think about that saying amount of money on a on a new recycling truck which I could be wrong on but I think they might have bonded for it I could be wrong on it though I don't know but I'd probably right now there's what there there was all your profit that you know that you would like to make for last year so okay well I
- 38:01[SPEAKER_32]: to add to like, I agree.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_32]: I don't think any of these city people should be getting any raises for the next several years, especially like I said, or city manager that, you know, somehow, whatever raise it was for this year.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_32]: He shouldn't be getting any raises.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_14]: Mm-hmm.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_32]: So what do they shouldn't be getting any raises with the situation that the city is in right now?
- 38:21[SPEAKER_09]: Okay.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_09]: Alrighty.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_09]: Well, thank you.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_09]: All right, bye now.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_09]: All right, we got more text coming in and we're going to do a commercial break.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_09]: Um, and let's see, mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_09]: When happened to a plan in place by the state to eliminate taxes on your power bill for the remainder of the winter, that's not going to happen.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_09]: Look at, I'm telling you, they like high bills.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_09]: If you're electric bill, this year is twice what it was last year.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_09]: That's twice as much sales tax revenue for hopeful and whoever else has got their paws into that.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_09]: So, they're not looking for them.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_09]: They want more.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, they want more.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_09]: Anyway, we'll be back with more in a moment.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_11]: We just don't say it often enough.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_11]: Thank you for listening to this station that listens to you.

- 40:52[SPEAKER_30]: Did you know the city of Watertown is designated a community of concern?
- 40:56[SPEAKER_30]: That's due in part to older housing, and the number of children affected by lead exposure.
- 41:02[SPEAKER_30]: And if you own rental property in the city of Watertown, this is important.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_30]: Property owners with two or more rental units built before 1980 are required to register with the New York State Lead Rental Registry.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_30]: This registry helps protect children and families by identifying housing that may pose a lead risk and by making sure landlords stay compliant with state law.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_30]: Lead poisoning is preventable and awareness is the first step.

- 42:32[SPEAKER_09]: Already we're back back in the hotline here.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_09]: I'm 1240 a WATN America's favorite noon time talk show on the air, and let's see What do you want to talk about anything in particular?
- 42:48[SPEAKER_09]: I don't have any children eating lead paint.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_09]: We don't have any lead paint first of all.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_09]: Secondly don't have any children Why would you want children living in a building where a bar is who would think that's a good idea
- 43:02[SPEAKER_09]: So it's not allowed.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_09]: All right, 755, 1240, the phone number if you'd like to give us a call to be on a show of shows today.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_09]: And what else have we got?
- 43:15[SPEAKER_09]: Wonder a Frank found those 75 city residents to attend a council meeting.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_09]: I doubt it.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_09]: Now down in Syracuse, the mayor proposed a $93 million budget with a 2.9% tax increase.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_09]: Still, too much, mayor, but,
- 43:31[SPEAKER_09]: I know that may or I'll go we don't want that no sir we want the professionals in there yeah so we can get a 19% increase um... hmm and what else have we got going on here all this they're debating again wine sales and grocery stores will that be resolved in our lifetime no
- 44:02[SPEAKER_09]: But that'd be a great move forward for the state that we could have wine in the grocery stores in the pigly wiggly oh I don't think they should be allowed and go up three three storefronts and get wine there if you're at the pigly wiggly there's no name that's just a whiteman family it's trying to get more money they don't need anymore
- 44:31[SPEAKER_09]: But after noon or on the air.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_19]: Good afternoon, Mayor, how are you today?
- 44:35[SPEAKER_09]: Good.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_19]: Good.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_19]: Hey, I wasn't going to bring this up.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_19]: I didn't want to sound careless.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_19]: Glenn brought her up yesterday.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_19]: And I completely agree with him.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_19]: I wanted to know what you saw.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_19]: And I've got a news truck like you are in Glenn.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_19]: But I feel really bad for that lady near his own of being kidnapped.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_19]: If she wants to get up to whatever's happened to her, I hope she's safe.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_19]: But don't you think the news is overdoing it?
- 45:02[SPEAKER_09]: Well, yeah, but they over did the Lindberg baby, too.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_09]: You get a case like this that's interesting.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_09]: And, you know, it's like these crime shows, you see on TV or those tabloids, you see it the checkout line.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_09]: People get interested in it and they wanna hear more.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_09]: So yes, is it overcovered?
- 45:22[SPEAKER_09]: Yes, it is just one person.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_09]: Nobody cares about the people that were killed in Chicago this weekend, including children.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_19]: I mean, they're covering this story, I mean, they're covering real good, they'll give you wrong, but it's like you're ignoring other news, are they not?
- 45:40[SPEAKER_09]: Well, thank God we're ignoring Minnesota.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_19]: Yeah, well, that's a good point right there, yes.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_19]: Okay, it's going to get your opinion on it.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_09]: Okay, yeah, thank you.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, it is getting disproportionate coverage, but I'm as guilty as an ex-person.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_09]: I sit there in tune between Newsmax and Fox and CNN and see who's gotten.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_09]: And I like that Paul Moro and Fox and some of the other people and I was anxious to hear what Chris Cuomo had to say about it last night and what a shallow life.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_09]: Now, there's some of you out there who say, go through what are you talking about.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, now it has been on channel 7's noon show a couple days in a row, so I think we do share a condescense of consciousness on this, um, something like the, uh, don't obey orders billboard on root 3, not so much because the other media doesn't cover it, but, uh, well they agree with the billboard, that's why, no.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_09]: So anyway, um,
- 46:48[SPEAKER_09]: hmmm well I don't know if we allow wine to be sold in supermarkets why can't I sell a bottle of wine you can sell it by the glass which can't sell it by the bottle same thing with liquor you got all these little rules they all stem from the prohibition era what's that matter
- 47:16[SPEAKER_09]: There's no rules on who can sell weed.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_09]: You can sell as much as you want by the bag, by the yellow, by the one ever done there.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_09]: Oh.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_09]: They should be able to sell weed in supermarkets too.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_09]: You see where I knew Ark Times even had a tutorialize the other day that maybe America is getting a little too weed crazy.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_09]: So, I don't know.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_09]: Hey, let's do a break.

- 51:06[SPEAKER_09]: Well, because you have to do that.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_09]: You won't find anybody else to come here.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_09]: There's a person who says too much time spent reporting on Nancy got three.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_09]: Okay, another person says, what's my theory of the got three case?
- 51:22[SPEAKER_09]: Well, my theory of the case is if you look at that video, they came out yesterday in the front porch or Portugal, sure looks like somebody who is maybe planning a burglary or something, but I don't know.
- 51:37[SPEAKER_09]: usually if if someone wrong during a burglary and you had a confrontation and somebody got killed usually be running but I think first of all I think Mrs. Guthrie tragically is deceased.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_09]: This idea that the guy from TMZ is going to be able to talk to somebody who's going to not know where she is.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_09]: Now that isn't true.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_09]: That isn't true.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_09]: So I think that's my theory
- 52:08[SPEAKER_09]: Well, nobody likes to say it, but I think this whole thing's closer to home than anyone would want to say.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_09]: If you look at the picture of the guy in the porch or a particle, and his eyebrows and his
- 52:32[SPEAKER_09]: I think you'll find someone who's a part of this story that fits at least that description and would have had access and all of that.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_09]: I think that the whole thing with the kidnapping and the bitcoins and the letters to the TV stations through the dark media and all that stuff.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_09]: I think that was all a ruse to cover up the killing.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know what the motive for killing
- 53:01[SPEAKER_09]: whether it was something that got out of hand and argument and you know, then you got up.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, my god, somebody's dead here.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_09]: I got to do something.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_09]: So, but yeah, I think it's, that's my theory of the case.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_09]: I don't think it's some international cartel of kidnappers.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_09]: I don't think there's really a reason to grab an 84-year-old woman.
- 53:23[SPEAKER_09]: You know, if you're wanting to kidnap people for money, wouldn't you get kids or trophy wives or something like that?
- 53:31[SPEAKER_09]: I'm not to be cruel but to be candid, so I don't know exactly what this was, but I don't think you'd have to travel too far to find out who's behind it.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_09]: So, you know, for being a number of people, but I mean, of course in a neighborhood like that, if you look at that neighborhood, it's kind of interesting, it's a bunch of curly
- 53:59[SPEAKER_09]: it's very nice but uh... it's not like uh... you know at a big city where there's a grid of streets or something like that tough to find a way around and uh... all of that but the police likely no more than they're saying and uh... we'll see we shall see i'll wait and see what uh... uh... who do i watch for that tonight
- 54:32[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_09]: I'll see what Chris Cuomo says.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_09]: Okay?
- 54:37[SPEAKER_09]: And maybe Jesse Waters, Caitlin Colley, Collins, yeah.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_09]: Those are my favorite people on at night, incidentally.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_09]: I watch others.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_09]: And of course, I watch a gut fellowship.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_09]: As far as talking head shows, those are my three of my favorites.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_09]: As I said, I'm not a fan of,
- 55:02[SPEAKER_09]: vanity that type of stuff so these people say you just watch fox news 24 seven on ten different tv just don't know me yeah i'm willing to look my tv up to a monitoring device so that the public knows what i watch if they're that interesting seven five five twelve forty the phone number if you'd like to give us a call to be on the show of shows um...
- 55:32[SPEAKER_09]: There's another text.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_09]: I don't know, somebody just texted a name and I don't know who it is, so I'm not going to say it on the ear.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_09]: Not going to accuse anybody, I'm just, you know, you just watch enough of this stuff and you kind of get your view on it.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_09]: Now, Oh, there's a state senator proposing new penalties for e-bike violations.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah, I don't know about that.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_09]: And there's a story as your grocery store spy.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_09]: I hear there's not much left over at Grand Union.
- 56:14[SPEAKER_09]: But you can get like cat food for half off or something.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_09]: I might go over there today.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_09]: Stop snowing.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_09]: Yeah.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_09]: Pick up a few items.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_09]: It's sad.
- 56:26[SPEAKER_09]: It really, I went there last week.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_09]: It was sad.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_09]: It's got to be more sad now.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_09]: stuff going um let's see now I've already answered all your questions somebody wanted to know should there be a city of water town I don't know should there be a town of Pamelia should there be a this or that should there be any of it I don't
- 57:00[SPEAKER_09]: political subdivision should have been six hundred and seventy five school districts all of their own fleets of lawyers and bargaining units and superintendents and deputy superintendents and all i don't really know i hard to say we got school districts where they'd i think they have a graduating class of zero so i mean we got all sorts of ways to do your

- 58:07[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, boy.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_09]: I was talking to one of the mean girls yesterday.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_09]: I said, you saw the video of the incident over at Pete's involving, uh, Millie Smith.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_09]: And I said, well, I haven't seen it yet.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_09]: I can't really judge what went on until I see it.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_14]: Mm-hmm.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_09]: So if I get to see it, then I will tell you about it.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_09]: I'm like a wild, you know.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_09]: Oh, New York Democrats want to stop stores from charging different prices based on who you are, how much money you make.
- 58:43[SPEAKER_09]: Really?
- 58:44[SPEAKER_09]: Do they do that?
- 58:47[SPEAKER_09]: Do they look at me and say, you're paying more for this loaf of bread or something?
- 58:52[UNKNOWN]: I didn't know that.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_09]: But after you do it on the air,
- 58:57[SPEAKER_09]: Hey, Dan, go ahead and be quick.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_20]: I just wanted to say up, I encourage anybody to get the end of the day, excuse me.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_15]: All right.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_20]: No, I've been cheering to encourage anybody to look if she's been at the day in public.
