- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to Game Time Alive at the Finals presented by
- 0:02Speaker 1: YouTube TV, Chris Miles here with the Hall of Famer
- 0:06Speaker 1: Top seventy five at seventy five and Finals MVP himself
- 0:10Speaker 1: Isaiah Thomas, champion in All Stars Steve Smith, and the
- 0:13Speaker 1: champion Channing Frod Top fifty, Top fifty at fifty as well.
- 0:18Speaker 2: All of the accolades.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Belong to that man.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Get it right now, so I felt, Zeke Shay, Gilgess,
- 0:25Speaker 1: Alexander now joins that elite company.
- 0:27Speaker 3: If you have that's a Finals MVP.
- 0:30Speaker 1: He had his career high, playoff career high and assists
- 0:33Speaker 1: with twelve twenty nine points and answer the call here
- 0:37Speaker 1: in this game seven.
- 0:38Speaker 4: Not only did he answer the call you know he
- 0:41Speaker 4: always does in terms of scoring, but you know when
- 0:44Speaker 4: you can score and assists, right, that's when you put
- 0:48Speaker 4: your mark on the game.
- 0:50Speaker 5: And what he was able to do. Who was able
- 0:52Speaker 5: to score his twenty nine, but I thought what.
- 0:55Speaker 2: He was able to.
- 0:56Speaker 4: Do for him, for Jay Will and also for Ted Honks,
- 1:00Speaker 4: he made it easier for them. Consequently, James Wildt twenty
- 1:05Speaker 4: check gets eighteen and you have the three headed monster
- 1:10Speaker 4: alone with their defense kicking in leading them.
- 1:13Speaker 5: To a championship.
- 1:14Speaker 4: But the assists that he had tonight was much more
- 1:18Speaker 4: important than the points Steady scored.
- 1:20Speaker 1: And this is coming off a game where he had
- 1:22Speaker 1: eight turnovers in game six.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Smidty really flipped that around.
- 1:26Speaker 6: He did.
- 1:26Speaker 2: It was very impressive.
- 1:28Speaker 6: Isaiah talked about the assists, but to go through the
- 1:31Speaker 6: constant pressure, the double teams, the guys slapping at it,
- 1:35Speaker 6: and in the finals game seventy has one turnover.
- 1:37Speaker 2: That's very impressive.
- 1:38Speaker 6: And I think Chen and Isaiah, for me, I'm still
- 1:42Speaker 6: wondering how he says even keel throughout game one and
- 1:46Speaker 6: all the way to the finals.
- 1:48Speaker 7: I think for me, he dives into the art of preparation.
- 1:51Speaker 7: We were talking about it. That spin move we had
- 1:54Speaker 7: not seen in six games. He watched film. He added
- 1:57Speaker 7: something he also knew. Becoming a facility was gonna make
- 2:01Speaker 7: his team more dangerous than him shooting the ball every
- 2:03Speaker 7: time he picked and chose, or a pick to choose
- 2:07Speaker 7: when he went at which person he got guys in
- 2:09Speaker 7: foul trouble. He's creating this double team. You see how
- 2:12Speaker 7: quickly he's getting off that ball. That means he's not
- 2:14Speaker 7: thinking about is this my shot? He knows what they're
- 2:17Speaker 7: doing on this curl. He knows where the ball needs
- 2:20Speaker 7: to go. And that type of maturity is dangerous for
- 2:22Speaker 7: this league because now you see how even keel he was.
- 2:26Speaker 7: This isn't a guy that just wants won championship. This
- 2:29Speaker 7: is a guy that's satisfied with this. He wants to
- 2:31Speaker 7: be the best version of himself. And I still think
- 2:33Speaker 7: there's a lot more to go.
- 2:35Speaker 4: You know, preparation is key, and you know, can you
- 2:38Speaker 4: learn from gang to game and not only can you learn,
- 2:41Speaker 4: but can you apply what you've learned. And that's what
- 2:44Speaker 4: he was able to do, like you said, one turnover
- 2:47Speaker 4: right handling the basketball as much as he did, and
- 2:51Speaker 4: then as you said accurately, also Channy get into the
- 2:55Speaker 4: line twelve times and going eleven for twelve from the
- 2:59Speaker 4: foul line, scoring and assistant creating opportunities.
- 3:03Speaker 5: It was magnificent tonight.
- 3:05Speaker 6: And let let's look at here's a guy can have
- 3:09Speaker 6: a run with finals MVPs championship because the way he
- 3:14Speaker 6: leads his team, he lets everybody's eat and he still
- 3:17Speaker 6: comes out there and get his numbers. It is scary
- 3:20Speaker 6: how far he can go in this team and organization
- 3:23Speaker 6: hint going the next.
- 3:24Speaker 8: Three years, and here's the history of the make And
- 3:25Speaker 8: look at the screen right now. Zeke players to win
- 3:28Speaker 8: MVP Finals, MVP scoring title in the same season, the
- 3:32Speaker 8: first player since Shaquille O'Neill in two thousand to do so,
- 3:36Speaker 8: it's been twenty five years.
- 3:38Speaker 4: Well, anytime you're on a graphic with Jordan, Javar and O'Neill,
- 3:43Speaker 4: you know, I mean that that's saying a lot. I
- 3:46Speaker 4: mean when you think about you know, over you know,
- 3:51Speaker 4: the five thousand the so players that have come through
- 3:53Speaker 4: the NBA, there's a there's a level, and then there's
- 3:57Speaker 4: another level, and then there's the level you just put
- 4:00Speaker 4: on the screen. There's only four people to ever do that,
- 4:03Speaker 4: and now he's one of them.
- 4:04Speaker 1: So when I hear that, right, I'm coming right back
- 4:06Speaker 1: to you on this because we do understand that there's
- 4:09Speaker 1: levels to it. Where Shade Gildress Alexander at twenty six
- 4:12Speaker 1: years old just entered.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Now, what level do you foresee for his future?
- 4:18Speaker 4: Well, sky's a limit, right, you know, you won your
- 4:21Speaker 4: first championship, You're on the team right now that has
- 4:25Speaker 4: the potential to be really dominant because of the you know,
- 4:29Speaker 4: the executive staff has done a great job in terms
- 4:32Speaker 4: of draft picks, putting together the team and everything else.
- 4:35Speaker 4: So he's going to be in a great winning situation
- 4:39Speaker 4: for the next five or six years. Now, can they
- 4:43Speaker 4: continue winning? Can they stay healthy? Can can they resist?
- 4:48Speaker 4: But pat rally coined the disease of more because every
- 4:54Speaker 4: player is going to one more times, more shots, and
- 4:57Speaker 4: more importantly, more money and the small market.
- 5:01Speaker 1: So smiddy when I look at the best players on
- 5:04Speaker 1: a championship caliber team, no question, spas that guy you
- 5:07Speaker 1: played with Tim Duncan you played with Lebron James?
- 5:10Speaker 6: Right?
- 5:10Speaker 3: You kind of understand that pecking order.
- 5:12Speaker 1: What does that do for the rest of the team
- 5:14Speaker 1: when you get to the NBA finals like this.
- 5:17Speaker 6: Well, it brings everybody's confidence And I think if you
- 5:19Speaker 6: look at it, the hard work that pays off, they'll
- 5:22Speaker 6: go in and work even harder to get it, like
- 5:25Speaker 6: he says greedy, but also go back to Shake Gills
- 5:27Speaker 6: as Alexander what I love and watch his maturation and
- 5:30Speaker 6: been talking to his trainer about he's still got a
- 5:33Speaker 6: room to go because it's the three ball. Now, once
- 5:36Speaker 6: he starts hitting the three ball, people don't understand. We've
- 5:39Speaker 6: watched a guy win an MVP and do all these
- 5:41Speaker 6: accolating titles. Basically from the mid range in the free
- 5:44Speaker 6: throw line, you get the three ball for him. Get
- 5:47Speaker 6: that'll make him quicker, That'll make him more dangerous. Guys
- 5:50Speaker 6: got to pick up even quick earlier, and then the
- 5:53Speaker 6: guys will be running at him and you know this channing,
- 5:55Speaker 6: It will be unbelievable if he can start to make
- 5:58Speaker 6: four to five threes in a ball game.
- 6:00Speaker 5: And I'd be on guardable.
- 6:01Speaker 7: And to get back to that graphic about in this
- 6:04Speaker 7: day and age, this is a this is a bigger
- 6:06Speaker 7: guards league. Shaq is physically dominant, obviously, I think that
- 6:11Speaker 7: was Wilter Kareem Lewis Kareem physically dominant. He's sixty four,
- 6:15Speaker 7: sixty five, and he's playing in a league where people
- 6:19Speaker 7: average one hundred something points. So we're saying you can
- 6:22Speaker 7: score and your team wins, and you're the best player.
- 6:26Speaker 7: To add those three things up doesn't usually happen, especially
- 6:29Speaker 7: when you play a team like the Pacers, who have
- 6:31Speaker 7: eight guys who get an opportunity to score.
- 6:34Speaker 5: So that's one and then two.
- 6:37Speaker 7: I think we're not taking into account the maturity in
- 6:41Speaker 7: the culture setting that SGA is. He has set the
- 6:45Speaker 7: culture here and made sure everyone he's a hooper, he's
- 6:49Speaker 7: a basketball head. You look at Chet, you look at
- 6:51Speaker 7: lou Dort, you look at Jason Williams, Jay Williams, right,
- 6:54Speaker 7: you look at a jaln Sorry, you look at all
- 6:56Speaker 7: these guys and you're like, wait a second.
- 6:59Speaker 5: All y'all are starts to bleed into each other.
- 7:01Speaker 7: They're unwavering and their confidence and in their work, and
- 7:05Speaker 7: that is something that is They're gonna want money somewhere else,
- 7:09Speaker 7: but what they have here, they need to stay here
- 7:11Speaker 7: as long as possible.
- 7:12Speaker 6: You know.
- 7:12Speaker 4: And I compare to after I won my first championship
- 7:16Speaker 4: in Detroit, right, and you look at winning it from
- 7:20Speaker 4: the point guard physician and the league that has been dominated,
- 7:25Speaker 4: you know, by the small forwards, the centers and the bigs.
- 7:28Speaker 5: But to do it at the point.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Guard physition, it takes a special person stressing personality and
- 7:35Speaker 4: then to be able to score and be unselfish from
- 7:38Speaker 4: that position. Now, can you come back and say okay,
- 7:42Speaker 4: to really put the icing on top?
- 7:45Speaker 5: The question is can you do it again?
- 7:47Speaker 4: And that's you know, on that graphic that we shows
- 7:51Speaker 4: all those guys, you know at their physicians, they came
- 7:55Speaker 4: back and did it one more time to really make it,
- 7:59Speaker 4: you know, stand out.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Well, let's stay on that point, because this is the
- 8:03Speaker 1: seventh champion we've seen in the seventh consecutive season.
- 8:07Speaker 3: It's never happened in NBA history.
- 8:09Speaker 1: So what is it gonna take for us to be
- 8:11Speaker 1: sitting here with the team to repeat?
- 8:13Speaker 3: Finally, smithe well.
- 8:14Speaker 6: I think all of us know we're not looking at
- 8:16Speaker 6: this roster saying a while of age.
- 8:17Speaker 2: He's getting older.
- 8:19Speaker 6: These young guys, everybody's from Chet Holmgren, Hardenstein, lou Dort.
- 8:24Speaker 2: They all can add to their game.
- 8:26Speaker 6: But what they do have Isaiah Channey, they defend and
- 8:30Speaker 6: your best player defends. There's room for improvement on everybody's
- 8:34Speaker 6: game individually physically, and then obviously experience. They won this one,
- 8:40Speaker 6: so that gains it like two or three more years
- 8:42Speaker 6: of experience and confidence. Cheed Holmgren has nowhere reached his
- 8:46Speaker 6: peaching close. He's not even close, So you think about
- 8:49Speaker 6: him in the next two or three years.
- 8:51Speaker 2: It is scary how good this team can be.
- 8:53Speaker 6: And you're led by your guy and you guys know
- 8:56Speaker 6: this because you did it I'm the best player and
- 8:59Speaker 6: I and I defend.
- 9:02Speaker 2: There is not a lot of superstars.
- 9:04Speaker 7: The way that OKC buys into each other is their
- 9:08Speaker 7: most dangerous attribute. They buy into each other's success, which
- 9:12Speaker 7: means they hold each other accountable. When somebody isn't rotating correctly,
- 9:16Speaker 7: they Dagnault's allowed to put somebody else in.
- 9:19Speaker 5: Nobody motes.
- 9:20Speaker 7: They jog off the court as something little right, that's
- 9:22Speaker 7: a sign of respect, right, not like I'm not getting mine.
- 9:26Speaker 7: This has shown that teams can win. You can have
- 9:29Speaker 7: individual success above your missus. We could talk about Cheed Holgrin. Yeah,
- 9:34Speaker 7: he wasn't very good from a three point line, but
- 9:36Speaker 7: he had five blocks tonight. Yeah, what was his impact?
- 9:39Speaker 7: Did you see? The us was above the me. That's
- 9:43Speaker 7: what dangerous because most teams that guy would go, oh man,
- 9:46Speaker 7: I'm not getting my points. He was doing everything that
- 9:50Speaker 7: was necessary on that possession, even if it was shooting
- 9:53Speaker 7: when he had made it, he shot it because it
- 9:55Speaker 7: was what was necessary.
- 9:56Speaker 1: And it's a Channing's point, right when you look at Okay,
- 9:58Speaker 1: what did someone do in the biggest moment?
- 10:00Speaker 3: Yes, SGA twenty nine to twelve. We almost expect that.
- 10:03Speaker 1: But Chet Holmgren coming in, we were saying, Okay, he's
- 10:06Speaker 1: had some up and down games in this series.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Eighteen points, but here's the thing.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Five blocks, and he had six total blocks in games
- 10:14Speaker 1: one through five. See, he really brought it in this
- 10:18Speaker 1: game seven, had his best game of the NBA five.
- 10:21Speaker 5: Yes, he did.
- 10:22Speaker 4: But it's expected of him because he's done it in
- 10:26Speaker 4: high school, he's done it in college, and now on
- 10:29Speaker 4: the biggest stage he does it again. You know, he's
- 10:32Speaker 4: never been won to shrink from the moment whenever the
- 10:36Speaker 4: moment called for him to be big and.
- 10:40Speaker 5: Chet with big tonight.
- 10:41Speaker 4: You know, you talk about the block shots, but also
- 10:44Speaker 4: his scoring, but he was able to do scoring wise, and.
- 10:47Speaker 5: The confidence that he continued to have in himself.
- 10:50Speaker 4: And you know, you you talked about team, and this
- 10:54Speaker 4: reminds me so much of all eighty nine Piston team defensively,
- 11:00Speaker 4: because I thought we were the best defensive team ever
- 11:02Speaker 4: and I still think we were one of the best
- 11:04Speaker 4: defensive teams ever. But we lost my horn in ninety
- 11:09Speaker 4: We lost my horn in ninety and we still came
- 11:12Speaker 4: back and won back to back. But defensively, what the
- 11:17Speaker 4: Detroit Pissions were all about at that time, we were
- 11:20Speaker 4: rooted on the defensive end, sharing the basketball. Eight nine
- 11:24Speaker 4: people scored, which made us a true team. And as
- 11:29Speaker 4: OKC talked about sacrificing, believing, and trusting in each other.
- 11:33Speaker 4: That's what we're going to display here tonight, a total
- 11:37Speaker 4: team concept of winning.
- 11:39Speaker 6: What I love about chat I said in the pre
- 11:41Speaker 6: game he played big today. Only shot two threes, but
- 11:45Speaker 6: he got block shots and he rebounded. And that's the
- 11:47Speaker 6: one thing about his versatility. He can play big, he
- 11:51Speaker 6: can play small. We saw him he was trying to
- 11:53Speaker 6: drip around guys. That's not what you're gonna do against
- 11:55Speaker 6: this pacer team. You're playing a bigger guy that's slow. Yes,
- 11:59Speaker 6: but he came out and me block shots, let me rebound,
- 12:01Speaker 6: let me take a high percent of shots. I just
- 12:04Speaker 6: I just think this right now is scary for the
- 12:06Speaker 6: rest of the league because how good this team can be.
- 12:09Speaker 6: And I also want to point out Zeke and Jenny
- 12:12Speaker 6: coach Dagnall has got this monkey off his back.
- 12:15Speaker 2: He's a young coach, yes, and like right now.
- 12:17Speaker 6: He can go and say, hey, I just went up
- 12:20Speaker 6: against Rick Carlile, and.
- 12:21Speaker 2: You know what, I came away a winner.
- 12:24Speaker 6: But first of all, so I would love for us
- 12:26Speaker 6: to all talk about the prayers and respect we have
- 12:28Speaker 6: to get the Tyreeves Haliberg.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Sure, I think that's that's one thing. He's a warrior.
- 12:32Speaker 6: The way he came out and competed, and I hated
- 12:35Speaker 6: to see that almost brought a tear tom in my
- 12:36Speaker 6: eye when the.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Injury have you Well to that point, Zeke, he had
- 12:40Speaker 1: nine points in the first quarter, came out on fire
- 12:43Speaker 1: and it was like one of those things where like
- 12:45Speaker 1: we're gonna see a classic here, and it was certainly
- 12:48Speaker 1: a sad moment to see him go down.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Well, it definitely was a sad moment for all of
- 12:53Speaker 4: us to watch this, you know, to see him pounding
- 12:55Speaker 4: the floor and then to see the reflay you can
- 12:58Speaker 4: see their kill pop in his calv and all of us,
- 13:02Speaker 4: as former players and current players, everybody knew what that
- 13:07Speaker 4: moment was all about, and even he knew it himself.
- 13:10Speaker 4: As players and everyone else, the tears that we shared
- 13:14Speaker 4: and the prayers that we gave, Now, this is what
- 13:18Speaker 4: makes the NBA so special in terms of trying to win.
- 13:23Speaker 4: Because we all heard the saying it's a marathon, not
- 13:27Speaker 4: a sprint, right, and those who can survive physically and
- 13:33Speaker 4: mentally are normally usually the ones who are champions. And
- 13:39Speaker 4: you know, there are many a series where players get
- 13:42Speaker 4: hurt and they don't win, and I was one of them.
- 13:46Speaker 4: But that means you didn't have enough to overcome and
- 13:51Speaker 4: make the challenge and beat the challenge. The champion has
- 13:54Speaker 4: the physical and the mental and the will to succeed
- 14:00Speaker 4: and endure. And he shows that strength where tonight we
- 14:05Speaker 4: saw the physically weak team go down. But that's what
- 14:09Speaker 4: being a champion is all about.
- 14:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I'll say this, Tyrese is even better.
- 14:14Speaker 7: As good as he is playing basketball, he's even better
- 14:16Speaker 7: human band. Yeah, I think his competitive nature, his ability
- 14:20Speaker 7: to inspire his team. Right, this Pacers team, they went
- 14:24Speaker 7: to Eastern Conference finals, nobody, nobody thought anything of it,
- 14:28Speaker 7: and all of a sudden, now we're these are household names.
- 14:30Speaker 7: It's just great for the NBA. This shows that we
- 14:32Speaker 7: are winning. You can win different ways in NBA. You
- 14:36Speaker 7: don't have a Yokic sketch. What I got a Aliburton,
- 14:38Speaker 7: you know, say I got a Sayakam. I got a
- 14:40Speaker 7: guy from the G League, right, who's been a champion
- 14:43Speaker 7: that everyone just threw to the side. Who's actually making
- 14:46Speaker 7: huge impacts, who's a big time player in this NBA.
- 14:48Speaker 5: And for me when it comes to Tyrese, you know,
- 14:51Speaker 5: just make sure you take care of your body.
- 14:53Speaker 7: And injuries happen every single year, so don't question should
- 14:57Speaker 7: he have played or should he not know this? There
- 14:59Speaker 7: have been seven new champions in seven years?
- 15:01Speaker 2: Or is it eight now?
- 15:02Speaker 5: Seven? Seven?
- 15:04Speaker 7: I don't know, And this anything can happen any year, right,
- 15:09Speaker 7: you have to take this chance, Channing Fry. If this
- 15:12Speaker 7: was my son, I'd be like, man, you gotta take
- 15:13Speaker 7: that chance, because you don't know what's gonna happen.
- 15:16Speaker 5: I remember sitting there, and I'll be quite quick.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Of the story.
- 15:19Speaker 7: Twenty ten, I remember we lost to the Lakers Kobe Bryant,
- 15:22Speaker 7: and I was looking at Grant Hill and Steve Nash sobbing.
- 15:26Speaker 7: This is my fifth year in the league, sobbing about
- 15:29Speaker 7: everything we lost. Now I was crying too, but not
- 15:31Speaker 7: at that level. I really didn't understand until we lost
- 15:33Speaker 7: to the to the to the Warriors in twenty seventeen,
- 15:36Speaker 7: where I was thirty four, and I was like, man,
- 15:38Speaker 7: this ain't gonna happen again. I just I hope they
- 15:41Speaker 7: take advantage of this opportunity that they have with their
- 15:44Speaker 7: teammates and their chemistry and try to get there again.
- 15:46Speaker 5: Their great basketball to.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Watch now for those just tuning in, first and foremost,
- 15:49Speaker 1: we appreciate you.
- 15:51Speaker 3: Second, No, Bill Kareem is in the locker room.
- 15:54Speaker 1: He will interview Thunder players and we're gonna have players
- 15:57Speaker 1: come and sit with us as well.
- 15:58Speaker 5: Brings today's program.
- 16:00Speaker 3: I'm not gonna say that.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Part Channing Fry, but Schmidty, let's get back to the
- 16:04Speaker 1: identity of this Thunder team, right because they were down
- 16:07Speaker 1: one at the half, and it's you watching the game,
- 16:10Speaker 1: You're like, oh, the Pacers are sticking with it.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Even after the Halliburd injury.
- 16:14Speaker 1: They were plus fourteen in that third quarter, but they
- 16:17Speaker 1: had eighteen points off of turnovers in.
- 16:20Speaker 5: Just the third quarter.
- 16:22Speaker 3: That was the most pivotal part of the game.
- 16:24Speaker 1: And it was what the Oklahoma City Thunder who they are,
- 16:27Speaker 1: their identity.
- 16:28Speaker 2: I think this championship was won three years ago.
- 16:30Speaker 6: The reason why they were the number one seed the
- 16:33Speaker 6: year before that, starting to get everybody talking and then
- 16:36Speaker 6: came up very short last year, and then obviously in
- 16:39Speaker 6: this playoffs had some challenges with the Denver Nuggets.
- 16:42Speaker 2: But they get out and run. They have a lot
- 16:44Speaker 2: of basketball players. When I say that Isaias.
- 16:47Speaker 6: You can bring it up, you can score, I can defend,
- 16:51Speaker 6: you can switch.
- 16:52Speaker 2: And there's nobody saying, hey, let's target this guy.
- 16:56Speaker 6: They don't have one guy they tried to target, yes,
- 16:58Speaker 6: and everybody holds their own. And then they got a
- 17:01Speaker 6: guy right here that understands the game of basketball, that

- 17:49Speaker 4: SGA missed the shot. I think the officials missed the
- 17:54Speaker 4: twenty four second violation.
- 17:56Speaker 5: They got the.
- 17:56Speaker 4: Ball back, and then when they got it back, they
