- 0:00Speaker 1: It's an important historical moment. It's one more thing.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I'm strong, and one more thing.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Before we get to some important history from a bygone era.
- 0:18Speaker 1: The less famous Kelsey not not Taylor Swift's boyfriend, but
- 0:23Speaker 1: his brother Travis.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Jason, Yes, center for the Eagles of Philthladelphia.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Yes, retired from football yesterday. Gave an emotional press conference
- 0:32Speaker 1: and it got a tremendous amount of attention. So would
- 0:35Speaker 1: it have gotten this much attention if it hadn't been
- 0:37Speaker 1: for his brother dating Taylor Swift?
- 0:41Speaker 3: You know, I was just going to say the internet
- 0:44Speaker 3: meme that was so funny where gals would try to
- 0:49Speaker 3: convince their husbands that nobody would know who Travis Kelsey
- 0:52Speaker 3: is unless it was for Taylor Swift, and they would
- 0:54Speaker 3: get all mad and flustered because he's a famous football player.
- 0:57Speaker 4: That was very amusing.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I think there's a certain amount of truth to it
- 1:01Speaker 3: for Jason Kelsey outside of fans of say the NFC East,
- 1:07Speaker 3: because he's Jason of the Eagles.
- 1:09Speaker 4: Who's just retiring as a hell of a football player.
- 1:11Speaker 3: He will be wearing the mustard yellowjacket at Kanton, Ohio
- 1:14Speaker 3: at some point.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Will unless it's my team I don't usually know standout
- 1:20Speaker 1: centers offensive whiteman.
- 1:23Speaker 5: Yeah, I had no idea who he was.
- 1:25Speaker 3: And tell all of this at the risk of getting
- 1:28Speaker 3: all footballly is we talked on the air about a
- 1:30Speaker 3: few months ago whenever it was if you look at
- 1:32Speaker 3: the highest paid players on NFL squads, number one is
- 1:37Speaker 3: the quarterback. Numbers two, three, and four I believe are
- 1:42Speaker 3: offensive linemen. It's interesting those are the money guys. Now
- 1:47Speaker 3: your number one edge rusher might be in that group,
- 1:50Speaker 3: and then the next guy's an offensive lineman.
- 1:52Speaker 1: But I don't doubt that, and for obvious reasons if
- 1:54Speaker 1: you're into sports. But I still don't usually know the
- 1:57Speaker 1: offensive linemen of other teams. That is AnyWho, he is
- 2:01Speaker 1: going to be a Hall of Famer and his brother
- 2:03Speaker 1: dates Taylor Swift. So anyway, you give a press conference
- 2:06Speaker 1: yesterday about his retiring in and got a lot of attention,
- 2:08Speaker 1: And here's a little of how it sounded.
- 2:10Speaker 6: Thanks for coming, guys. We'll see how long this lasts.
- 2:20Speaker 6: But this all brings us here to today where I
- 2:24Speaker 6: announce that I am retiring. Where I announced I'm retiring
- 2:35Speaker 6: from the NFL after thirteen seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 2:40Speaker 6: I don't know what's next, but I look forward to
- 2:43Speaker 6: the new challenges and opportunities that await and I know
- 2:46Speaker 6: that I carry with me the lessons from my time here,
- 2:50Speaker 6: and that forever and that forever we shall all share
- 2:58Speaker 6: the bond of being Philadelphians.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 3:04Speaker 1: And it went on like that for quite some time,
- 3:06Speaker 1: and he talked about his brother and they cried together
- 3:08Speaker 1: over that, and how they used to play football together
- 3:10Speaker 1: in the backyard and stuff like that.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Was very nice.
- 3:14Speaker 5: I also wonder if they put together one of those
- 3:16Speaker 5: big video presentations, probably before he went up there, just
- 3:19Speaker 5: to get him emotional, because he was pretty emotional right
- 3:22Speaker 5: before he even started talking, you know, and they usually
- 3:25Speaker 5: play some slide show or something highlights.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yeah, So I don't know any thoughts on any of
- 3:30Speaker 1: that before we move on.
- 3:32Speaker 3: He seems like a really nice fellow, and I wish
- 3:35Speaker 3: him well. You know, being a football player has been
- 3:38Speaker 3: such a huge part of his identity for so long
- 3:40Speaker 3: it's got to be extremely difficult to walk away.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Although I would think.
- 3:44Speaker 3: The battering you take in that line of work would
- 3:47Speaker 3: be a pretty good push factor.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Yeah, didn't get offered a single Division I college scholarship. Wow,
- 3:56Speaker 1: and then was a sixth round pick in the NFL,
- 3:59Speaker 1: So didn't he He certainly didn't have Hall of Fame
- 4:01Speaker 1: stamped on him coming out of high school.
- 4:04Speaker 4: So interesting.
- 4:06Speaker 5: One of the other things he talked about in his
- 4:07Speaker 5: speech was being the underdog. Yea said that that was
- 4:10Speaker 5: his main thing.
- 4:12Speaker 1: The part that's interesting to me now that I'm older,
- 4:16Speaker 1: is that these guys when they retire, they're like thirty something.
- 4:21Speaker 1: So the end of a long here, let's look back
- 4:23Speaker 1: over at you're thirty something. I mean, I don't even
- 4:25Speaker 1: start looking forward in my life untill like roughly when
- 4:28Speaker 1: you quit a thirty six Yeah, exactly.
- 4:31Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, which is some guys use that to
- 4:35Speaker 3: parlay it into a long success story, whether it's in
- 4:38Speaker 3: the broadcast booth, or they buy a bunch of Ford
- 4:40Speaker 3: dealerships or what have you.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Some of them crack up.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:44Speaker 1: We had an NBA player in the studio one time
- 4:46Speaker 1: who'd written a book about it, and he's you. Most
- 4:48Speaker 1: of you wouldn't know who he was. He wasn't a
- 4:50Speaker 1: big enough deal in the NBA, but he wrote a
- 4:52Speaker 1: book about the transition or something like that, and he
- 4:55Speaker 1: he said he was prepared for it. He knew, you know,
- 4:58Speaker 1: man is going to be tough with and you no
- 5:00Speaker 1: longer go out there in the crowds cheering and blah
- 5:02Speaker 1: blah blah. And he said, I was prepared for it,
- 5:04Speaker 1: and it still was devastating. It It'd be quite a change.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, not being with the Fellas anymore. It's just
- 5:10Speaker 3: a completely different lifestyle.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I need to be cheered. I want non stop people
- 5:14Speaker 1: cheering me. I've never been cheered so.
- 5:16Speaker 3: Or certainly a break from the derision now, right, huh,
- 5:19Speaker 3: people throwing stuff to ask if that came to a stop,
- 5:22Speaker 3: that'd be awesome.
- 5:23Speaker 1: So we played it.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Maybe you'd be wait, I got a good one.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Maybe you'd be happier if your pants were just a
- 5:28Speaker 3: little looser in the critical areas.
- 5:30Speaker 4: That's a transition.
- 5:31Speaker 1: So during the radio show we ended up on the
- 5:35Speaker 1: topic of pants. The New York Times with a hilariously
- 5:40Speaker 1: long article about pants and how wide pants are in
- 5:44Speaker 1: now and skinny pants are out, which I was it
- 5:50Speaker 1: was hilarious. I read quite a bit of it just
- 5:52Speaker 1: because I found it hilarious. How seriously they took this
- 5:56Speaker 1: topic and how in depth they went. In The New
- 5:58Speaker 1: York times about it, but anyway did We then played
- 6:02Speaker 1: a little clip of Lyndon Baines Johnson, president of the
- 6:05Speaker 1: United States from sixty three to sixty eight, talking to
- 6:12Speaker 1: his tailor on the phone about his pants and Katie
- 6:15Speaker 1: had never heard it before because Katie's new to the show. Roughly,
- 6:18Speaker 1: how long you've been here?
- 6:18Speaker 2: A year?
- 6:19Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 6:20Speaker 2: Wow?
- 6:21Speaker 4: Time flies?
- 6:22Speaker 2: Yikes.
- 6:23Speaker 1: So this is Lindon made Johnson who had his pants
- 6:25Speaker 1: special made by a Taylor back in Texas.
- 6:28Speaker 4: And LBJ was.
- 6:30Speaker 1: A corn ponem that's actually what the Kennedy people called him,
- 6:33Speaker 1: Colonel corn Pone to his face. That nice relationship. Anyway,
- 6:40Speaker 1: He's from small town, Texas and he's talking to his
- 6:42Speaker 1: tailor about getting a new pair of pants ordered, and
- 6:44Speaker 1: it sounded something like this.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Go ahead, sir, Hello, Hello, miss Tiger Ye Joe Hager, Joe,
- 6:53Speaker 2: your phone is the one that makes the clothes. Yet
- 6:56Speaker 2: there we're all together, all made me some real light
- 7:01Speaker 2: weight slacks. Uh uh. He just made up on his
- 7:06Speaker 2: own sentiment or four months ago. It's a kind of
- 7:09Speaker 2: a light brown and a light green, rather soft green
- 7:14Speaker 2: and soft brown, and the real light weight. Now I
- 7:18Speaker 2: need about six pears for summer were. I wanted a
- 7:22Speaker 2: couple of maybe three of the light brown uh, kind
- 7:25Speaker 2: of a almost powder color, like powder on the lady's face.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Then there was some green, and then maybe some other
- 7:34Speaker 2: light parts. You had a blue in that or or black? Uh?
- 7:37Speaker 2: To have one blue and one black. I need about
- 7:39Speaker 2: six pairs or way around in the evening when I
- 7:42Speaker 2: come in from work, and I need uh about a
- 7:47Speaker 2: half inch too tight and no waist, and you would
- 7:51Speaker 2: call it back give I didn't want it on here
- 7:53Speaker 2: would get him right for you. No, I don't know you.
- 7:55Speaker 2: You all just guessed out of my things. But once
- 7:57Speaker 2: you have the measurements they find for I can send
- 8:01Speaker 2: you a pair. I want them a half inch larger
- 8:03Speaker 2: in the waist than the where before, except I want
- 8:06Speaker 2: two or three inches of stuff left back in there
- 8:08Speaker 2: so I can take them up. I ury ten or
- 8:10Speaker 2: fifteen pounds a month, all right, So leave me at
- 8:15Speaker 2: least two and a half third inches in the back
- 8:17Speaker 2: where I can let them out or take them up,
- 8:19Speaker 2: and make these a half inch bigger than the waist,
- 8:22Speaker 2: make the pockets at least an inch longer. Money, my money,
- 8:26Speaker 2: and my knife, everything fall out now the pockets when
- 8:32Speaker 2: you sit down in the chair the knife and your
- 8:34Speaker 2: money comes out, so I need at least another inch
- 8:37Speaker 2: in the pockets. Yeah. Now another thing with crutch down
- 8:42Speaker 2: where your nuts hang is always a little too tight.
- 8:46Speaker 2: So when you make them up, give me an inch
- 8:48Speaker 2: that I can let out there. Because they cut me.
- 8:52Speaker 2: It's just like riding a wire fence. These are almost
- 8:55Speaker 2: these the best that I've had anywhere in the United States.
- 8:58Speaker 2: But when I gain a little weight, they cut me
- 9:02Speaker 2: under there, So leave me. You never do have much
- 9:06Speaker 2: margin that. But see if you can't leave me about it.
- 9:09Speaker 2: An age from the wire to zipper ends around under
- 9:14Speaker 2: my back to my bunghole. All right, so I can
- 9:17Speaker 2: rent it out there if I need to. Now, be
- 9:21Speaker 2: sure you got the best zippers in them. These are
- 9:23Speaker 2: good that I have, and if you get those coming,
- 9:27Speaker 2: I would sure be grateful. Where would you like to
- 9:31Speaker 2: whine house?
- 9:33Speaker 1: There you go at a historical moment, actual phone call with
- 9:37Speaker 1: President of the United States.
- 9:39Speaker 4: Cut me like I'm shitting on a wire fencer. Oh,
- 9:42Speaker 4: the fact, don't.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Leave me much margin.
- 9:47Speaker 4: You gotta have margin.
- 9:49Speaker 1: The fact that he burps right before he uses the
- 9:52Speaker 1: word bunghole is my favorite part.
- 9:55Speaker 4: That is what.
- 9:56Speaker 5: That's one of my favorite pieces of it.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Amazing, it's amazing. Oh, it shows you who he was.
- 10:02Speaker 1: He was from poor Texas hill country to his bones,
- 10:08Speaker 1: that's what he was.
- 10:09Speaker 4: That's the master of the Senate right there.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Uh huh right.
- 10:13Speaker 3: And it's probably worth the tip of the cap that
- 10:15Speaker 3: he was calling the Hagar family who became, you know,
- 10:17Speaker 3: one of the great clothiers of that time of history.
- 10:20Speaker 1: About five inches right back to my bung hole.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Where my nuts hang. That's the best part. Not crotch,
- 10:31Speaker 4: you know, where my nuts. Yeah, we know what a
- 10:34Speaker 4: crotch is.
- 10:35Speaker 3: The reason people use the word crotch is so they
- 10:38Speaker 3: don't have to say where your nuts sang?
- 10:45Speaker 4: As some plain talk there, Oh can I tell you?
- 10:48Speaker 1: And if you're actually into you know, history and this
- 10:50Speaker 1: sort of stuff, the Carol book about the relationship between
- 10:55Speaker 1: LBJ and the Kennedy family is amazing because he just
- 10:58Speaker 1: heard who the guy was. That's way different than the
- 11:02Speaker 1: Kennedy clan.
- 11:04Speaker 4: The Kennedys of Harvard.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, highennas Port Kennedy's and their you know, golf
- 11:10Speaker 1: clubs and tennis clubs and that sort of stuff. No
- 11:12Speaker 1: wonder they didn't get along with and vice versa with
- 11:16Speaker 1: lbj oh my god, where.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Their patrician accents and their crisp suits and the rest
- 11:24Speaker 3: of it with practically no margin where they're not sang
- 11:28Speaker 3: or banged at the time from their bunk holes.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:32Speaker 1: No, it seems in a minimum, it's like riding a
- 11:34Speaker 1: rail fence.
- 11:34Speaker 4: I mean, it's just, oh, my.
- 11:35Speaker 1: God, like something my grandfather would say, Well, that's how
- 11:39Speaker 1: he gained some weight back, and.
- 11:41Speaker 4: It cuts me, cuts me oof.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I can't believe that they all, how many presidents allowed
- 11:51Speaker 1: all their phone calls to be recorded, and then when
- 11:53Speaker 1: when do we get to hear them all?
- 11:55Speaker 4: I don't know, and I don't know.
- 11:57Speaker 1: There's got to be some great conversations there. That's a
- 11:59Speaker 1: good one right there. Thanks for bringing that back, Michael.
- 12:02Speaker 1: It's historical on that history way. Yeah, we're history buffs.
- 12:06Speaker 3: I'd rather have the Giddisburg address, but we have that,
- 12:09Speaker 3: so let's appreciate what we have.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Well, I guess that's it.
