- 0:02Speaker 1: NBA basketball fans, Welcome back to the NBA Playoff Banter Podcast.
- 0:08Speaker 1: He's Marshall Lump Chris and we're here to talk about
- 0:12Speaker 1: the Eastern and Western Conference Finals. We finally are here.
- 0:18Speaker 1: We got a very interesting matchup in the West. Although
- 0:22Speaker 1: when you look at the betting odds, not just for
- 0:27Speaker 1: Game one, but the series, I mean, Vegas thinks that
- 0:33Speaker 1: it might be a gentleman sweep or something. I mean,
- 0:35Speaker 1: the way they are tough, you know, the way it's listed,
- 0:40Speaker 1: it's pretty intense, like it's a seventy thirty, seventy five
- 0:44Speaker 1: to twenty five in favor of OKC. Obviously, you know,
- 0:50Speaker 1: being from Minnesota, that kind of rubs me the wrong
- 0:53Speaker 1: way a little bit, but you know, it is what
- 0:55Speaker 1: it is. In fact, kind of like the fact that
- 0:58Speaker 1: we're major underdogs going into this series because that's when
- 1:03Speaker 1: they play better. And of course we're bringing back the nineties,
- 1:07Speaker 1: the Knicks, the Pacers. Man talk about remembering stuff from
- 1:14Speaker 1: your youth. We're gonna break down both series. We'll start
- 1:17Speaker 1: with a little bit of recap. Obviously, we got a
- 1:19Speaker 1: Game seven yesterday that started out very interesting and then
- 1:24Speaker 1: before long, really at halftime it was pretty much done.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Gordon played. Didn't look like he was gonna be able
- 1:31Speaker 1: to play based off the reports, but he did play,
- 1:34Speaker 1: so well. We'll talk a little bit about that and
- 1:36Speaker 1: and you know some of the closeout series. Obviously the
- 1:38Speaker 1: Knicks moved on, and we'll talk about that. The the
- 1:42Speaker 1: the Knicks fans after the after the game, we're going
- 1:45Speaker 1: crazy in the streets. Man, and there was a couple
- 1:49Speaker 1: of Pacer fans that was like getting garbage bags thrown
- 1:52Speaker 1: at him. So it was pretty wild. Actually, I think
- 1:55Speaker 1: Haliburton's gonna invite one of those guys to a home game,
- 1:58Speaker 1: so we will. We will preview and predict both sides
- 2:03Speaker 1: of the Conference Conference Finals, and uh yeah, then then
- 2:07Speaker 1: we'll we'll just talk talk some shop. If this is
- 2:11Speaker 1: your first time listen to the NBA Banter podcast, welcome.

- 3:11Speaker 1: stars in Cinemax. And it takes me everything in my
- 3:16Speaker 1: might to not say skin Amax, but I kind of
- 3:19Speaker 1: just said it anyway. Um, that's direct TV stream. Okay,
- 3:24Speaker 1: let's get into some of this. Oops. So Marshall, first
- 3:28Speaker 1: and foremost, how the hell are you doing? And second
- 3:32Speaker 1: of all, Man, we do have some interesting stuff to
- 3:36Speaker 1: talk about when it comes to the conference finals. Man,
- 3:40Speaker 1: I'm excited about these matchups. I kind of think that
- 3:45Speaker 1: and we'll get into this later in the show obviously,
- 3:47Speaker 1: but I kind of think that OKAC clearly should be
- 3:51Speaker 1: the favorite, but I think they're a little too much
- 3:54Speaker 1: the favorite, but that could just be me being biased. Man, So,
- 3:58Speaker 1: so how are you doing? First and foremost? And we'll
- 4:01Speaker 1: get into this. Uh, you know basically how we got
- 4:04Speaker 1: here in the last series, start with Game seven.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Uh, life is good, man, because golf seasons around the corner.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Being a teacher and a coach, I get about two
- 4:12Speaker 2: months of freedom to golf. So I've got to point
- 4:16Speaker 2: out Chris, where like, my handicap keeps getting lower and lower,
- 4:18Speaker 2: but now it's the play where I can't get any
- 4:20Speaker 2: more lower. Yeah, you can shoot like high nineties, now,
- 4:23Speaker 2: low nineties, now mid eight now this mid eighties thing, Like,
- 4:28Speaker 2: I guess I gotta work a lot harder. Now this
- 4:31Speaker 2: shit's getting tough. But hey, golf season's around, and life
- 4:34Speaker 2: is good man. For basketball, you know, realistically, man, we've
- 4:39Speaker 2: had a pretty good run to where it's either been
- 4:40Speaker 2: my team or your team. We support us being the
- 4:42Speaker 2: Warriors or Wolves. Now for the past ten years repping
- 4:46Speaker 2: the Western Conference finals, we've had a pre good run.
- 4:48Speaker 2: So obviously I don't think my Warriors are gonna be
- 4:51Speaker 2: shown up there and again anytime too soon. But your
- 4:54Speaker 2: Wolves have the DNA now, so at least we're we're
- 4:57Speaker 2: talking about teams we love in the show, which makes
- 4:59Speaker 2: a little more fun.
- 5:01Speaker 1: And I noticed that you said conference finals because you know,
- 5:04Speaker 1: we have yet to move on to any kind of finals,
- 5:06Speaker 1: and putting those two in the same sentence, I don't
- 5:10Speaker 1: know if I go there, but yeah, I know what
- 5:11Speaker 1: you're saying. I do know what you're saying. Yeah, It's
- 5:15Speaker 1: been a great playoff run in general for my timorros,
- 5:20Speaker 1: but just in general. First two rounds very fun, especially
- 5:24Speaker 1: like the first part of the of the second round.
- 5:29Speaker 1: We did get a game seven and it looked pretty
- 5:33Speaker 1: shaky for the OKC Thunder In the first part. It
- 5:38Speaker 1: was like maybe twenty four to ten or so. It
- 5:42Speaker 1: was like, whoa, what is going on with them? Even
- 5:45Speaker 1: when they're shooting, it just looks like they're nervous. It
- 5:48Speaker 1: didn't look all that good. But to their credit, by halftime,
- 5:52Speaker 1: they had kind of really opened up on the you know,
- 5:57Speaker 1: kind of limping in a sense for nuggets.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I was really surprised, and I was
- 6:06Speaker 2: in Kansas City for the weekend, so I was having
- 6:07Speaker 2: a little bit of fun. But even my fun mode
- 6:11Speaker 2: was like, I was surprised when Aaron Gordon played because
- 6:14Speaker 2: you saw the ESPN ticker saying dude had like a
- 6:18Speaker 2: second degree hamstring pull, and then you see him out there, right,
- 6:22Speaker 2: and they're saying Yokachi even told him for the games, like, dude,
- 6:25Speaker 2: you don't got to play, you know, And I respect
- 6:27Speaker 2: that for going out there. But that's one of those things.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Were like, damn injuries. It literally almost every year. Maybe
- 6:34Speaker 2: like those first couple of years, injuries weren't quite as bad.
- 6:38Speaker 2: It was like, obviously Lebron was special and Curry never
- 6:41Speaker 2: really got hurt. So we had maybe our first couple
- 6:43Speaker 2: of shows, Chris and we've done this NBA playoff banter.
- 6:46Speaker 2: It wasn't super injury probe, but for the past like
- 6:49Speaker 2: four to five years, injuries really have dictated who's won
- 6:53Speaker 2: the title. And it's no reason to excuse or bitch
- 6:56Speaker 2: because every team seems to have they're good and bad
- 6:59Speaker 2: at it. But man, injury, it's just it almost is
- 7:03Speaker 2: a battle of conditioning and strength just as much a skill.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Now obviously some teams brether than others, but it's can
- 7:10Speaker 2: your team survive the grind of the regular season be
- 7:15Speaker 2: healthy in the playoffs because if you can't, well, tough shit.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Obviously wish Boston found out unfortunately, But you know, like
- 7:20Speaker 2: the skill set does matter at all this, but can
- 7:23Speaker 2: your team survive, just get through these playoffs. And obviously
- 7:27Speaker 2: I still think okay See probably won Game seven. But
- 7:30Speaker 2: the trends here Eric Gordon was having in the playoff run,
- 7:33Speaker 2: like without him healthy that first quarter, they won the
- 7:36Speaker 2: first quarter, which I didn't like because I bet okay
- 7:38Speaker 2: See won the first quarter. But you know, it's just
- 7:42Speaker 2: a battle of strength. And Jo Kich I think got
- 7:44Speaker 2: a little more tired of ward down than were used
- 7:46Speaker 2: to seeing him, too, because the news put a lot
- 7:48Speaker 2: on his shoulders. But yeah, and okay See, if for all,
- 7:51Speaker 2: I don't follow them super close sleep, but frocking tell
- 7:54Speaker 2: they've been really healthy so part of the playoffs, Chris,
- 7:56Speaker 2: which makes huge difference compared to you know, John Morant,
- 8:00Speaker 2: who they were up twenty seventy two, you know in
- 8:03Speaker 2: the when they were playing up towy some points Game
- 8:07Speaker 2: three versus oks and he busts his wrist and come
- 8:09Speaker 2: back to win. So the the injury bug is stayed
- 8:12Speaker 2: away from Okse so far, which is one of the
- 8:14Speaker 2: reasons that they're not the main well, but a huge
- 8:16Speaker 2: reason's helped them.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Yeah, and you could say the same thing you know
- 8:21Speaker 1: about Minnesota, and uh, yeah, it happens. I mean even
- 8:26Speaker 1: maybe like, well, we know Curry and Lebron made it
- 8:30Speaker 1: many years without a major injury that had him have
- 8:34Speaker 1: to leave the game and series for good, right, but
- 8:37Speaker 1: there were plenty of injuries involved just in general then too.
- 8:42Speaker 1: But you're right, the you know, maybe that's the parody
- 8:45Speaker 1: has a lot to do with it, the second apron.
- 8:49Speaker 1: As long as it stays that way, we'll have something
- 8:51Speaker 1: to do with it. Will the owner? Like Denver, I
- 8:55Speaker 1: think the owner has something to do with you know,
- 8:57Speaker 1: you could maybe say, at least he could have kept
- 9:00Speaker 1: one of those guys. I'm not saying. Okay, maybe Brown,
- 9:04Speaker 1: even though Brown was a closer, really yeah, team he
- 9:08Speaker 1: came off the bench, but he closed a lot of games,
- 9:10Speaker 1: and he was a big offensive spark for them and
- 9:12Speaker 1: a guy who could take it to the rock and
- 9:14Speaker 1: make shots. But maybe if he, you know, you kept
- 9:17Speaker 1: KCP or you know whatever, like one of the three
- 9:22Speaker 1: that they lost. I think that would have helped too.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I think that plays into it. But either way, we
- 9:27Speaker 1: are now for sure, we for sure know now it's
- 9:30Speaker 1: gonna be seven years in a row with a new champ.
- 9:34Speaker 1: That's good sport it is, and also like it's crazy
- 9:40Speaker 1: because you know, Okay, see there they do count the
- 9:49Speaker 1: Sonics championship from way back when, and kind of they do,
- 9:57Speaker 1: but not really, you know, because it's not but it
- 10:00Speaker 1: was the team that moved there. So that's different. You know,
- 10:03Speaker 1: it is a little different because the Lakers count our
- 10:08Speaker 1: you know, Minneapolis Lakers, they count those, you know, but
- 10:12Speaker 1: that was the team. It wasn't a new franchise like
- 10:14Speaker 1: the Timberwolves is a brand new franchise, that's why, or
- 10:17Speaker 1: not brand new, but it was and that's why it
- 10:20Speaker 1: doesn't count. But you know, the Knicks haven't as far
- 10:25Speaker 1: as them though. Only the Knicks have won a championship
- 10:28Speaker 1: out of these teams, you know, so that's pretty cool too.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Yeah, agreed.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And it's been since the seventies since they'd won it,
- 10:36Speaker 1: so it's been a long ass time. And we know,
- 10:40Speaker 1: you know, it had been since two thousand since they've
- 10:44Speaker 1: been to a conference final, dude. So I mean that's
- 10:47Speaker 1: freaking crazy, dude. Like even the Timberwolves and all the
- 10:49Speaker 1: struggles they had made one since two thousand, you know
- 10:54Speaker 1: that two thousand and three, two thousand and four, but
- 10:56Speaker 1: kind of going back even that game six, the I'll
- 11:00Speaker 1: call it the Struthers game where he just this dude
- 11:03Speaker 1: just went off in that Denver OKC win Okay See
- 11:09Speaker 1: one back to back games one, four and five. I
- 11:12Speaker 1: thought they held him really good, like it was let's see.
- 11:17Speaker 1: So in games four and five in the fourth quarters
- 11:21Speaker 1: right Thunder out scored the Nuggets sixty three to thirty seven.
- 11:26Speaker 1: But in that game six, it was twelve to six
- 11:29Speaker 1: at the time, it was probably like five minutes left
- 11:32Speaker 1: and the Thunder had missed like twelve straight threes, and
- 11:36Speaker 1: it just wasn't looking good. And I gotta admit I
- 11:39Speaker 1: did on the show pick Denver. Some of it was
- 11:45Speaker 1: just to be different, but some of it I thought.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I was still wondering about Okac. But like I said yesterday,
- 11:52Speaker 1: the early goings were pretty scary if you're an okay
- 11:55Speaker 1: See fan. But since that, since a minute left in
- 11:59Speaker 1: the first co this is at the beginning of the third,
- 12:03Speaker 1: they went on a forty eight to twenty run and
- 12:06Speaker 1: they were up by eighteen at that point. So they
- 12:10Speaker 1: in late third when they were up eighty seven to
- 12:13Speaker 1: sixty five, it was sixteen to four. When it came
- 12:16Speaker 1: to turnovers, obviously, you know, not in favor of sure Denver.
- 12:24Speaker 1: You know, I'm not a big fan of Michael Porter junior,
- 12:29Speaker 1: but clearly he was hurt. You know, his shoulder was
- 12:34Speaker 1: all bandaged up. Yeah, shooter. He only averaged nine points.
- 12:39Speaker 1: He shot thirty four percent from the from the three.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Now they owe him seventy nine point one million in
- 12:46Speaker 1: the last two years of his deal, so that's on
- 12:49Speaker 1: basically forty mili a year. But clearly having him at
- 12:57Speaker 1: least healthier. You know that there's time he'll get played
- 13:01Speaker 1: off the court defensively and Westbrook will play right. You
- 13:04Speaker 1: know that there's just times where he just Jackson, doesn't
- 13:07Speaker 1: do anything and you're kind of frustrated at him. But
- 13:09Speaker 1: there's also times, like in a seven game series, especially
- 13:12Speaker 1: where two maybe three games, he'll just go off. You know,
- 13:16Speaker 1: so I did think that, you know, I think that
- 13:18Speaker 1: played into it. We know, their depth was an issue
- 13:21Speaker 1: that kept putting in random dudes, you know, trying any
- 13:26Speaker 1: anything in then Westbrook. You know, he's the you know
- 13:31Speaker 1: that movie The Good, Bad and the Ugly. He's the great, good,
- 13:34Speaker 1: bad and ugly all mixed into you know, one batch.
- 13:38Speaker 1: You know, especially after bench, it's nice that you can
- 13:41Speaker 1: just sit him back down, but but they didn't really
- 13:44Speaker 1: have much of a choice, And overall, I thought he
- 13:47Speaker 1: was pretty good in the playoffs, but he definitely kind
- 13:49Speaker 1: of fell apart just like him and like you said,
- 13:55Speaker 1: as far as Jokic standards go, you know, it was
- 13:59Speaker 1: a pro any good series for him, but not like
- 14:03Speaker 1: his level, even though he's still like twenty eight and fourteen.
- 14:07Speaker 1: And he finally started shooting threes like he normally did,
- 14:11Speaker 1: which was I think it was thirty two percent or
- 14:13Speaker 1: whatever instead of what he was doing in that first series.
- 14:17Speaker 1: And then this year he shot threes like at a
- 14:20Speaker 1: high high rate. But overall, the depth, it just it's
- 14:27Speaker 1: just not there. And and you know, back to back
- 14:30Speaker 1: seven game series you start to wear down obviously. Yeah,
- 14:34Speaker 1: and even though Okasee is young for the most part anyway,
- 14:39Speaker 1: you know, we'll see if beyond game one, if this
- 14:42Speaker 1: does affect them in the long term, both game plan
- 14:47Speaker 1: and just rest. We'll get to that in just a second.
- 14:50Speaker 1: But you know, okay, see, you gotta give him credit.
- 14:53Speaker 1: They they they did finish him off. It was getting
- 14:56Speaker 1: a little funky. They did lose their first game of
- 14:58Speaker 1: the series at home, and they ended up winning. So overall,
- 15:04Speaker 1: though you know, where does Denver go from here? Because
- 15:09Speaker 1: they got some decisions to make, not just on the roster,
- 15:12Speaker 1: but you know, they got a GM. They need a
- 15:15Speaker 1: GM and a head coach. Do you think they'll go
- 15:17Speaker 1: with Adamman? Just because in some people think they overachieved
- 15:22Speaker 1: from what they were. It did seem like their defense
- 15:25Speaker 1: got a little bit better. But I never really saw them,
- 15:29Speaker 1: you know, as a true contender to win a championship,
- 15:32Speaker 1: even though I did pick him, you know, in the
- 15:35Speaker 1: last or for this series.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, and I guess they asked Jokic that
- 15:42Speaker 2: in the postgame pressure. Yes, Jay is kind of like, well,
- 15:44Speaker 2: if we're if we're built to win, why did we
- 15:46Speaker 2: win this year? You know, He's like, we still got
- 15:47Speaker 2: some work to do.
- 15:49Speaker 1: And then he talked about his horses.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Yeah, he wants to drink a lot of beer. So yeah,
- 15:54Speaker 2: for you, I see you, h you know, I I mean,
- 15:58Speaker 2: if you have Jokic and and I mean and like
- 16:03Speaker 2: Gordon and Porter Junior, that's not that's not a bad core.
- 16:06Speaker 2: I mean, this has been a pretty damn good team
- 16:09Speaker 2: for the past five seven years.
- 16:10Speaker 1: So lots of minutes together.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Yeah, uh, but you know, I hear that Christian Bronck,
- 16:16Speaker 2: you get like thirty million a year that I wouldn't
- 16:18Speaker 2: pay that dude.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I saw that dude, Like, I understand that dude who
- 16:22Speaker 1: said it's pretty good at setting the price. But who
- 16:24Speaker 1: in the fuck is gonna give him thirty mil? No
- 16:26Speaker 1: offense to that guy. He's a nice he's a nice
- 16:28Speaker 1: role player, but thirty mil.
- 16:32Speaker 2: I if I'm Denver, if we're looking at.
- 16:34Speaker 1: I didn't even give nas Reid thirty mil.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Yeah, well, your cut ties save money. That that's definitely
- 16:40Speaker 2: a situation where you can say a lot of money.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Like Porter Junior. Probably he ain't worth the forty million either, honestly,
- 16:47Speaker 2: he for as random as practice. He is so shit. Uh.
- 16:52Speaker 2: But hey, if you got sign.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Tim Connley made that I thought was wrong. Maybe you
- 16:57Speaker 1: should have signed and trade him.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Yeah, if you got Jokic and uh and Gordon, you
- 17:01Speaker 2: got a nucleus still just like the Greek freak, he's
- 17:05Speaker 2: gonna do his part almost every year and they're gonna
- 17:08Speaker 2: be a contender. So but you probably again, I I
- 17:12Speaker 2: either it would be a big mistake to kind of
- 17:14Speaker 2: pay Braun that money because that's taken away from hell.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Even as they say, like a like a mid tier
- 17:20Speaker 2: like veteran exception or something out or that, whatever lady
- 17:23Speaker 2: want to like, I'd rather bring in a true VET
- 17:26Speaker 2: that could be experienced and pay because look at what
- 17:30Speaker 2: the the Detroit Pistons did. Hey, you know that they
- 17:33Speaker 2: tried to uh during uh cunning Ham with a lot
- 17:37Speaker 2: of good vets, And I don't think of the vets
- 17:39Speaker 2: Detroit sign are making thirty mil. But I would love
- 17:42Speaker 2: a guy like a Hardaway or uh Beasley. Yeah who
- 17:49Speaker 2: I would. They could offer you just as much as
- 17:51Speaker 2: broad or relatively similar.
- 17:53Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, I just that I saw that too,
- 17:57Speaker 1: and I was like, what.
- 18:03Speaker 2: But all it takes the one person to do it,
- 18:05Speaker 2: because hell, if you look at the way Philly constructed
- 18:07Speaker 2: their roster some of those I mean, I still remember
- 18:09Speaker 2: the day we did this podcast when we're like Tobias
- 18:11Speaker 2: Harris got how much for Philly? You know, kind of
- 18:14Speaker 2: just start pan picking paying guys too. But I mean,
- 18:18Speaker 2: I know sometimes it's like you need to pay the
- 18:20Speaker 2: money to get a guy because you need the guy,
- 18:23Speaker 2: which you have to outbid a person because that's how
- 18:25Speaker 2: the stock market works. Sold this free agency, but it
- 18:28Speaker 2: can come back to biting the ass too if you
- 18:30Speaker 2: start bidding people that you really are the only one
- 18:33Speaker 2: you're the only one bid in the race, So like,
- 18:35Speaker 2: what are you doing?
- 18:36Speaker 1: Doc? You know? Yeah, And this year it's like there
- 18:42Speaker 1: could be a couple of free agents that get vastly
- 18:46Speaker 1: overpaid because there's not a lot of free agents that
- 18:50Speaker 1: really excites you. And so sometimes it's like it's kind
- 18:53Speaker 1: of like in the NFL, where like, Okay, the best
- 18:56Speaker 1: cornerback in the free agency is not even a top
- 19:00Speaker 1: eight best cornerback, but they're gonna get the money like
- 19:03Speaker 1: they are because that's what it is. So but I
- 19:07Speaker 1: think a lot of this stuff's gonna be signed in
- 19:09Speaker 1: trade or just trade, like gi honest, Like, I think
- 19:12Speaker 1: a lot of the the excitement is gonna be free
- 19:16Speaker 1: agency wise that way, trades instead of free agentcy because
- 19:19Speaker 1: a lot of people don't have a ton of money
- 19:21Speaker 1: and they already kind of have their plans. And I
- 19:24Speaker 1: just don't I don't know. I don't know, are is
- 19:28Speaker 1: Washington gonna give him thirty milers? Like I'm just trying
- 19:30Speaker 1: to think of a bad team, Like I don't know,
- 19:33Speaker 1: even though my Wolves have a problem with Washington every
- 19:35Speaker 1: damn year, but we won't get into that just yet.
- 19:40Speaker 1: You know, I don't know. We'll see where, you know,
- 19:43Speaker 1: Denver goes. But like I said, when you have a core,
- 19:46Speaker 1: the other stuff can take care of itself when you
- 19:49Speaker 1: you know, through the draft, and and I know their
- 19:52Speaker 1: GM who's gone now said he liked their draft and
- 19:55Speaker 1: some of the young players definitely have potential. But yeah,
- 19:59Speaker 1: we'll see, we'll see where that goes. And then obviously
- 20:05Speaker 1: the Knicks did get forced to a game six because
- 20:08Speaker 1: Boston came out. Brown had a phenomenal all purpose game,
- 20:13Speaker 1: not just scoring the ball, but almost had a triple double.
- 20:17Speaker 1: You know, we even talked about how it would be
- 20:19Speaker 1: shocking if Boston wins another game because they have a
- 20:22Speaker 1: lot of talents. Still, now you know they're Porzingis. I
- 20:31Speaker 1: don't know what the hell's wrong with him in his
- 20:34Speaker 1: illness and his breathing issues and all that. So I'm
- 20:38Speaker 1: not sure because it happened in like March, the first
- 20:41Speaker 1: part of it. Then he got a little better, and
- 20:43Speaker 1: I guess he never got all the way better something
- 20:45Speaker 1: like that. But either way, they have a lot of talent,
- 20:49Speaker 1: so it's not shocking that they won the game that
- 20:55Speaker 1: New York like a lot of teams. Sometimes you'll let
- 20:59Speaker 1: your guard down in there, or that one team could
- 21:01Speaker 1: just everyone kind of raised their game for a game
- 21:04Speaker 1: or two. This happened to be just one game, but
- 21:07Speaker 1: ultimately they ended the series, and they ended the series
- 21:11Speaker 1: with a variety of guys getting the job done. They
- 21:14Speaker 1: really didn't have to play their starters deep into that
- 21:18Speaker 1: as well. And then you know, outside of Madison Square
- 21:22Speaker 1: Garden was crazy after the game. But it's their first
- 21:28Speaker 1: home playoff series that they wrapped up since nineteen ninety
- 21:32Speaker 1: nine and the first time they've been to the conference
- 21:35Speaker 1: finals since two thousand. Obviously, you know, losing their number
- 21:42Speaker 1: one player was tough for Boston, but to be fair,
- 21:45Speaker 1: it was three to one. Basically, they're up by ten
- 21:49Speaker 1: when he got hurt late in that game, so it
- 21:51Speaker 1: was gonna be three to one regardless, you know, if
- 21:55Speaker 1: Tatum was healthy or not, they were gonna be up
- 21:58Speaker 1: three to one. And the odds that they win all
- 22:00Speaker 1: three games, I don't know. I mean, maybe you know,
- 22:03Speaker 1: there was a chance. Obviously a lot of people including us,
- 22:06Speaker 1: thought there was a chance for it. But yeah, once
- 22:09Speaker 1: that happened, it was a wrap And so what are
- 22:14Speaker 1: your thoughts. Obviously they have a lot to figure out.
- 22:17Speaker 1: They were talking about how they're gonna have to do something.
- 22:21Speaker 1: It all matters how much money the owner is gonna
- 22:24Speaker 1: be work, you know, willing to pay in luxury attacks
- 22:28Speaker 1: obviously for Boston, but also like does he really want
- 22:33Speaker 1: to come in there and just like blow up a
- 22:36Speaker 1: potential championship team Again, I don't know, it's kind of
- 22:39Speaker 1: it'll be kind of interesting what they have to do.
- 22:41Speaker 1: But either way, next year they're gonna have to play
- 22:44Speaker 1: a lot of the season, you know, if not all
- 22:48Speaker 1: of it without their you know, without Tatum.
- 22:52Speaker 2: And honestly with the way surgeries. But come now, just
- 22:55Speaker 2: like the what we've learned to sport fans and just
- 22:57Speaker 2: I'm not at medical expermanians, but nowadays you'd rather tear
- 23:01Speaker 2: tear your a cl than tear your achilles because achilles
- 23:04Speaker 2: is just a different beast. Yeah, you're still probably out
- 23:07Speaker 2: for a year, but you've seen lots of the football
- 23:09Speaker 2: players or basketball players just struggle to recover from the achilles.
- 23:13Speaker 2: It's just a different beast. It takes a longer time,
- 23:15Speaker 2: which you saw with like uh like NFL quarterbacks or
- 23:18Speaker 2: even Klay Thompson DeMarcus Cousins like some guys who I
- 23:22Speaker 2: love who Unfortunately, it's just it's a bit of an injury.
- 23:25Speaker 2: So could tain to be back in next round playoff, sure,
- 23:28Speaker 2: but again, Achilles is nothing like a c LS nowadays
- 23:32Speaker 2: are like Tommy Johns for baseball. They got that ship
- 23:34Speaker 2: down to such a science now that it's pretty much
- 23:36Speaker 2: you're gonna come back just as good as you work.
- 23:39Speaker 1: But you.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Yeah, you're true, You're still gonna miss the time.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Yeah, the whole season.
- 23:46Speaker 2: But but the but the recovery of like Tommy Johnny,
- 23:50Speaker 2: a cls now are so good at recovery that it's
- 23:53Speaker 2: not a detrimental Achilles and so old as ones were, Like, dude,
- 23:57Speaker 2: you might never be the same or it's gonna take
- 23:59Speaker 2: you a long longer they expected. So that's tough for Boston,
- 24:02Speaker 2: but I'm not gonna sheds here for that city. As
- 24:05Speaker 2: a sports fan, I feel bad he got hurt, but
- 24:07Speaker 2: I've never been a fan, so you know, it is
- 24:09Speaker 2: what it is. And they have to recover from injuries too.
- 24:11Speaker 2: They they've been pretty lucky to him and Brown really
- 24:13Speaker 2: have for the most part, stayed healthy.
- 24:14Speaker 1: So yeah, definitely, obviously, yes, they really have to do
- 24:19Speaker 1: those little minor stuff.
- 24:22Speaker 2: But but they also get realized, Hey, dude, you're in
- 24:24Speaker 2: the East, are still You're still a bit luckier than
- 24:26Speaker 2: those in the West. So I still think they're sitting
- 24:28Speaker 2: pretty good overall.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Uh, the West might get more stacked if Giannis ends
- 24:33Speaker 1: up in it. You know, there's still they can still
- 24:35Speaker 1: get more stacked, you know, which is crazy.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Yeah, And I mean you're adding Cooper flag atle think
- 24:39Speaker 2: is gonna make the Mavericks world beaters next year. But
- 24:42Speaker 2: and h the dude in San Antonio is only gonna
- 24:46Speaker 2: get better. So you know that the wester really ain't
- 24:49Speaker 2: going down hill too much New Orleans Like, yeah, the
- 24:53Speaker 2: Westerns run not many Trump teams, So yeah, I think
- 24:56Speaker 2: I don't think you blow up too much. I do
- 25:00Speaker 2: you think it's kind of crazy amount of love that
- 25:03Speaker 2: Prichard and uh Prichard and the other dude guy that
- 25:10Speaker 2: comes off the bench for that freaking not bench starter.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Uh got him? Why am I drawing to blake on
- 25:16Speaker 2: his name.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Ship? Uh? And he's just like a you know, a
- 25:24Speaker 1: bench guy who's like a good role player and he.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Does yes, oh, Derek White, And I think it might
- 25:29Speaker 2: just be Boston media. But when whenever you hear at ESPN,
- 25:32Speaker 2: top of those guys are like, oh, they're like world changers.
- 25:35Speaker 2: It's like, dude, Derek White and Pritcher are good players,
- 25:38Speaker 2: but like when they get spoke of, they get spoke
- 25:40Speaker 2: of in a very high manner. So it's like, but yeah,
- 25:43Speaker 2: I think you just hit the reset button. Yeah, I
- 25:49Speaker 2: just I just think those guys get spoken of more
- 25:52Speaker 2: highly than expected. Like it's so just from the media standpoint.
- 25:55Speaker 2: So yeah, but you're in the East. Uh, if you
- 25:58Speaker 2: honest leaves the East, that's even or like, I think
- 26:00Speaker 2: they're still stated really well. So if you want to
- 26:03Speaker 2: come to shake stuff up, you can. But you know,
- 26:05Speaker 2: you're you got you got a pretty damn good squad
- 26:07Speaker 2: right there. So I don't think they I think they
- 26:09Speaker 2: can still.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Win plenty of games next year without Tatum, you know.
- 26:13Speaker 2: I I still think they expect to make the playoffs
- 26:16Speaker 2: for sure. Yeah, yeah, you figure they probably they will
- 26:20Speaker 2: be a top two or three seed, but the expectation
- 26:23Speaker 2: for that roster would still be to make playoffs. I
- 26:26Speaker 2: assume obviously of Jaylen Brown may have to a more work,
- 26:29Speaker 2: you know, But yeah, and.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Then if Tatum can't you know, maybe Tatum can come back,
- 26:35Speaker 1: and they did. He didn't have excess swelling either, so
- 26:40Speaker 1: he was able to. Uh, you know, sometimes it sounds weird,
- 26:44Speaker 1: but sometimes it's it's when you to get that surgery,
- 26:48Speaker 1: you want to get it done as quick as you can,
- 26:50Speaker 1: but if the swelling's too crazy, you can't. Sure. Sometimes
- 26:54Speaker 1: when you get in that plane, the swelling goes up
- 26:56Speaker 1: if you have to go home, you know, like if
- 26:58Speaker 1: you're on the road. Well, he didn't have to do that,
- 27:00Speaker 1: so oh wait, no, did he No, they said he
- 27:04Speaker 1: didn't take a fight, but he got it right away,
- 27:08Speaker 1: so that that usually does bode well. But yeah, we'll
- 27:11Speaker 1: see either way. They're not repeating. Like I said, it's
- 27:14Speaker 1: a seventh year in a row, the longest ever run now,
- 27:19Speaker 1: so there's there's never been a time in the NBA
- 27:23Speaker 1: where we went seven straight years without a chip, and
- 27:25Speaker 1: it will be interesting to see, you know, how many
- 27:28Speaker 1: of these elite level guys just end up with one championship,
- 27:35Speaker 1: which is still a hell of an accomplishment obviously, But
- 27:39Speaker 1: and then it's also like in the coming years, we're
- 27:43Speaker 1: gonna start to get those teams that won one to
- 27:46Speaker 1: come back or those players, and I think that will
- 27:48Speaker 1: add to everything as well. But yeah, we just haven't
- 27:52Speaker 1: had a team that has been able to do it.
- 27:55Speaker 1: So it's it's been pretty cool, you know, for that
- 27:57Speaker 1: for that matter. And then the Knicks, like going into
- 28:00Speaker 1: I heard plenty of sweeps and gentlemen sweets for the Knicks.
- 28:04Speaker 1: I heard plenty of that, And it seems more and
- 28:08Speaker 1: more like especially like the ESPN predictions, you'll get like
- 28:13Speaker 1: eleven in zero, you know, not even this one, but
- 28:17Speaker 1: the Lakers, you know, but then the Lakers series of
- 28:20Speaker 1: the Timberwolves, nobody picked the Timberwolves. But then in the
- 28:22Speaker 1: flip side, nobody picked Golden State. It was like, well
- 28:25Speaker 1: really there so not out of eleven people, not one
- 28:29Speaker 1: person's picking Golden State. It was just kind of it's
- 28:33Speaker 1: just kind of strange. But but this is I mean,
- 28:38Speaker 1: you know, say what you want about Tibbs, say what
- 28:41Speaker 1: you want about towns, say what you want about you know,
- 28:45Speaker 1: bruntson on defense, say what you want about this team.
- 28:48Speaker 1: But a lot of the traits that people started really
- 28:52Speaker 1: identifying last year in the playoffs, even though they were
- 28:55Speaker 1: you know, losing bodies left and right, the Knicks just
- 28:59Speaker 1: that grit it in the way, the style of play,
- 29:03Speaker 1: and you know they they made it in the series.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Brunts an average basically twenty seven points forty three percent
- 29:11Speaker 1: from the field in seven point four assists.
- 29:16Speaker 2: What is it?
- 29:17Speaker 1: Towns average almost twenty points forty nine percent from the
- 29:21Speaker 1: field and almost thirteen rebounds. And it just seems like
- 29:27Speaker 1: they would find this guy. They would find that guy
- 29:30Speaker 1: that night, Mitchell Robinson would come in and play. And
- 29:32Speaker 1: that two we'll talk about that, uh, that two big
- 29:35Speaker 1: lineup that's actually been fairly effective, and we'll see if
- 29:38Speaker 1: the shack of Mitchell happens. But shots out to the
- 29:41Speaker 1: Knicks though, because not many people, because you know, obviously
- 29:44Speaker 1: they look like an offensive team that wasn't deep at
- 29:47Speaker 1: all during the regular season, that just in every time
- 29:51Speaker 1: they played a good team, like a high level team,
- 29:52Speaker 1: they got beat. So shots out for them for like
- 29:57Speaker 1: reversing some of this and turning into like a gritty team. Man,
- 30:01Speaker 1: I'm pretty surprised. And does anyone, I mean, I know
- 30:04Speaker 1: the Pacers closed well, the Timberwolves have actually closed well lately,
- 30:10Speaker 1: but does anyone really want to be in a tight
- 30:12Speaker 1: game with the Knicks though, you know, like I don't
- 30:14Speaker 1: know about that, you know.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Uh, you know. I I think there's different ways to
- 30:22Speaker 2: look at them. Because on one hand, you can say,
- 30:25Speaker 2: for the first three or four games that Boston series,
- 30:27Speaker 2: the Knicks are down twenty points every game to the Celtics,
- 30:30Speaker 2: And if you're a great team, why you're down twenty
- 30:32Speaker 2: points every game?
- 30:34Speaker 1: But then they nobody's all them a great team going
- 30:36Speaker 1: in though?
- 30:37Speaker 2: What no, no, But even even a team that's gonna
- 30:41Speaker 2: potentially win a title, like for years I was a
- 30:44Speaker 2: Warriors fan, Like, yeah, they might lose some games, but
- 30:46Speaker 2: you know, like being on twenty every game, like that's
- 30:47Speaker 2: a weird habit. So like that tells you the team
- 30:50Speaker 2: has holes in their system that like in yes, Boston
- 30:53Speaker 2: was really good, but getting down twenty every game, that's
- 30:56Speaker 2: not a normal playoff circumstance. For hell, any team, like
- 30:59Speaker 2: even on the Wolves last year in a playoff run,
- 31:01Speaker 2: like they didn't get down twenty much for the games
- 31:03Speaker 2: they won or lost like twenty you know it. So
- 31:06Speaker 2: from that standpoint, it's like, are you a bad first
- 31:08Speaker 2: half team? Do you don't care? Like is Brunson truly
- 31:12Speaker 2: just a fourth quarter finisher, which he's proven he is,
- 31:15Speaker 2: But that's the one point where you kind of shake
- 31:16Speaker 2: your head of like if if we're all picked the
- 31:20Speaker 2: next year, Like, dude, I'd be a little cautious because
- 31:24Speaker 2: if you're a good.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Spat or six games they got down by twenty, I think, yeah,
- 31:30Speaker 1: again they lost, they were down by twenty, and then
- 31:32Speaker 1: the two games, the first two games they were down
- 31:34Speaker 1: by twenty correct.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Yeah, so yeah, the sixth and half the games, Yeah,
- 31:39Speaker 2: that's part where it's like and obviously they were down
- 31:41Speaker 2: twenty in game five where they got loooked, you know,
- 31:44Speaker 2: but that one yeah, oh yeah, okay, yeah, So it
- 31:48Speaker 2: just makes kind of wonder like what is this team's
- 31:51Speaker 2: first half abilities that makes you just fall behind because
- 31:54Speaker 2: if you were a high level team, that would happen
- 31:56Speaker 2: now to flip it over, clear, they don't quit, and
- 31:59Speaker 2: the off fits is maybe just sometimes a little slow
- 32:01Speaker 2: to get going because if it comes to the fourth quarter,
- 32:06Speaker 2: I'll see Haliburd's gonna get his shots, but Brunston gonna
- 32:08Speaker 2: get his.
- 32:08Speaker 1: So I.
- 32:12Speaker 2: They're healthier than we're used to the last year, which
- 32:14Speaker 2: is huge, But yeah, I'm just I guess I'm just
- 32:16Speaker 2: a little hesitant because what what kind of true team
- 32:19Speaker 2: are you? Like you kind of got a little little
- 32:22Speaker 2: lucky with uh some of those that that call that
- 32:25Speaker 2: one game versus the Pistons, and hell, that game came
- 32:28Speaker 2: down to the litter that you could have flipped the quarter.
- 32:30Speaker 2: We just as it could have been. Talking about a
- 32:32Speaker 2: Detroit Boston series is supposed to the Knicks and Pacers,
- 32:35Speaker 2: so sorry's supposed to Nick themselves.
- 32:38Speaker 1: They to play more games. But I hear you, yeah yeah, so, uh, I.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Just think this is gonna be a really competitive even
- 32:46Speaker 2: match series.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Obviously.
- 32:47Speaker 2: I think that Nick's her favorite.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Correct. I think I'm not sure? Oh okay, I think
- 32:55Speaker 1: it's pretty much fifty to fifty. I haven't I haven't
- 32:57Speaker 1: looked at it just yet.
- 32:59Speaker 2: I guess I just say it's too So you're not,
- 33:02Speaker 2: You're not.
- 33:02Speaker 1: You don't think it's like the Knicks did pretty good
- 33:05Speaker 1: though to get here. I mean, who the fuck picked
- 33:08Speaker 1: them to get here? And they beat Boston?
- 33:11Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, and that's it been literally a fifty to
- 33:14Speaker 2: fifty high team. So yeah, yeah.
- 33:19Speaker 1: I mean, though getting down is one thing, coming back
- 33:22Speaker 1: is another thing. Though, too true, But you're right, there
- 33:24Speaker 1: is something to be said about three quarters of basketball,
- 33:28Speaker 1: you know that. And also Brunson. You're right, there's been
- 33:32Speaker 1: many a games where he just kind of cruising along
- 33:35Speaker 1: and then it's like, oh, by the oh, it's fourth grader. Okay,
- 33:37Speaker 1: I'll show I'm ready to go, you know. So that
- 33:39Speaker 1: is good, okay.
- 33:40Speaker 2: And to the Pacers credit, like you know, I know
- 33:42Speaker 2: that again, injuries happened, mitchally got a little baited up
- 33:45Speaker 2: in the heat of the casual were baked up in games,
- 33:48Speaker 2: but others games were like Indiana's put on them, like
- 33:51Speaker 2: and at that game four, everyone's supposed to play that
- 33:54Speaker 2: game and like, I don't miss made the player, but
- 33:56Speaker 2: that was that was a relatively fully healthy team the
- 34:00Speaker 2: once in the East. So uh, I guess I'm literally
- 34:03Speaker 2: just torn. I can see people taking both sides of
- 34:06Speaker 2: the argument, and maybe I'm sure a little more like
- 34:08Speaker 2: news from the Knicks fans because it's New York City
- 34:11Speaker 2: at post Indiana. Yeah, yeah, yeah, which is realistic. That's fair.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Uh yeah, i'd be fair. You already start talking about
- 34:18Speaker 1: the Pacers, which we're gonna do next when we're not
- 34:20Speaker 1: even done with the Knicks. So you really don't think much.
- 34:23Speaker 1: They're a four and a half point favorite. Uh. In
- 34:26Speaker 1: game one, let me check the series.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Their serious price there minus one seventy, so that's that's
- 34:33Speaker 2: pretty and pacers are plus one forties. That's that's a
- 34:36Speaker 2: pretty one for crazy though, No, it's yeah, that's it.
- 34:42Speaker 2: I'm looking that's plus ninety for the Wolf or ESPN
- 34:46Speaker 2: started plus three thirty.
- 34:49Speaker 1: So I mean, I'm not saying that's fifty to fifty,
- 34:53Speaker 1: but that's that's pretty even.
- 34:56Speaker 2: You know, yeah, fairly. Yeah, So I think I think
- 34:59Speaker 2: for the Knicks will be what curious to see. One
- 35:01Speaker 2: thing is that how does Carl that the towns get involved.
- 35:04Speaker 2: I still remember that game seventy had last year versus
- 35:07Speaker 2: dever where the Wolves will win that game if he
- 35:09Speaker 2: don't play. It does seem like that he's kind of
- 35:12Speaker 2: the guy that people will forget about at times, and
- 35:14Speaker 2: like he kind of gets a little bit of a
- 35:16Speaker 2: saying a bad rap but kind of like what are you, yeah,
- 35:20Speaker 2: what are you doing first lately? Like, and obviously he
- 35:23Speaker 2: is a player who went on his on dask and
- 35:26Speaker 2: carry you, So I do think that obviously they're gonna
- 35:29Speaker 2: need brunts into his part, which he probably will because
- 35:31Speaker 2: he's proven that.
- 35:32Speaker 1: But how does.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Townsmen in this series like you know, does he kind
- 35:36Speaker 2: of And I'm not saying yeah, and I'm.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Not usually guards him, but the thing that actually contain
- 35:44Speaker 1: Towns is actually not putting it big on him.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Yeah, So I'll be curious see what he does because
- 35:53Speaker 2: after after Brunts and like who is the Knicks? Like
- 35:58Speaker 2: I you assume Towns is gonna be the next guys
- 36:00Speaker 2: step of offensive least, So what role does he play?
- 36:03Speaker 2: Because the Pacers, I will say one thing about it. Yeah,
- 36:05Speaker 2: I think they're offensively they're a little more evenly distributed
- 36:09Speaker 2: as opposed to so the Knicks have the obviously have Brunson,
- 36:14Speaker 2: you have.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Let's not break down the series just yet, Okay, all right,
- 36:18Speaker 1: you know, because we're not there it is yet. Yeah.
- 36:20Speaker 2: But yeah, So I guess for the Knicks is that
- 36:22Speaker 2: Towns has to stay. If they want advanced, Towns needs
- 36:24Speaker 2: to be maybe a little maybe, can't have as many
- 36:27Speaker 2: offensive nights, just kind of take it a step back
- 36:29Speaker 2: in a way.
- 36:31Speaker 1: Well, and I don't necessarily think it's it's just that
- 36:34Speaker 1: it's foul problems as well as he is, because there's
- 36:38Speaker 1: plenty of Knights where you go. Man, if he played
- 36:40Speaker 1: ten more minutes, he would have had thirty five points.
- 36:43Speaker 1: You know, Like, I don't think there are some games
- 36:47Speaker 1: in the playoffs where uh, he's not as aggressive or whatever.
- 36:51Speaker 1: I think that's fair. But honestly, especially this run, I
- 36:55Speaker 1: really think it has to do with the biggest problem,
- 36:58Speaker 1: which is foul problems, because he doesn't really have too
- 37:02Speaker 1: many games where he just played like shit in these
- 37:05Speaker 1: two these two rounds where you're just like, dude, where
- 37:08Speaker 1: the fuck? You know? It's foul problems, man. And there
- 37:11Speaker 1: was three games in this series where you're like, dude,
- 37:14Speaker 1: if you wouldn't have picked up the foul, dude, you
- 37:16Speaker 1: were you were punishing them, you know. So I think
- 37:19Speaker 1: it has a lot to do with foul problems. And
- 37:21Speaker 1: I wonder about his injury because he It's funny now
- 37:25Speaker 1: people are saying, why isn't he shooting threes? You know?
- 37:28Speaker 1: I thought you didn't want to shoot the Which one
- 37:31Speaker 1: was it? Dude? You know? And that's kind of what
- 37:33Speaker 1: my thing about the national media sometime that each year
- 37:38Speaker 1: Towns is shooting less and less threes, but they just
- 37:41Speaker 1: kept saying shoot less threes. It's like, dude, he is,
- 37:46Speaker 1: he's never matched like his two thousand and I think
- 37:49Speaker 1: it was eighteen nineteen under Saunders flips Honers. I'm sorry,
- 37:54Speaker 1: Ryan Saunders, all right, p okay, yeah, but he every
- 37:58Speaker 1: year he actually went down. In fact, we were in
- 38:01Speaker 1: a system where we're like, hey, dude, next year, we
- 38:03Speaker 1: expect you to shoot more threes. So it is kind
- 38:07Speaker 1: of funny, but I do think there's something. Clearly there's
- 38:10Speaker 1: something wrong. He didn't fully admit it, but he's just like,
- 38:14Speaker 1: I'm not gonna tell you what's wrong with me, but
- 38:16Speaker 1: clearly there might be because you don't just shut off
- 38:18Speaker 1: the three like that, you know. Yeah, and then he
- 38:21Speaker 1: I think he took sixty other night or seven and
- 38:23Speaker 1: he went like one to seven. So I think there
- 38:26Speaker 1: might be something. And I know it's not a shooting hand,
- 38:29Speaker 1: but it still could be in an area where because
- 38:32Speaker 1: you don't just shoot one hand, correct, right, you do
- 38:36Speaker 1: have to have something when it comes to set in
- 38:38Speaker 1: the ball a little bit. But it has been I mean,
- 38:41Speaker 1: you've seen a drastic drop in his threes in this
- 38:45Speaker 1: last series.
- 38:46Speaker 2: And maybe an X factor that literally as hot and
- 38:49Speaker 2: cold could be mckel Bridges because if you look at
- 38:51Speaker 2: his his playoffs run here so far versus Detroit eight
- 38:57Speaker 2: points nineteen twenty eight, seventeen twenty five, so kind of hot,
- 39:01Speaker 2: kind of cold, and then versus Celtics he had eight
- 39:04Speaker 2: points fourteen twelve, twenty three, nine twenty two. So if
- 39:08Speaker 2: we're looking for that second third wheel house, you know,
- 39:12Speaker 2: something like that, I think that Bridge is gonna be
- 39:16Speaker 2: kind of a big factor because after him, when he
- 39:18Speaker 2: after Bridges, Towns and uh Brunson. I'm not saying these
- 39:23Speaker 2: other guys can't produce, but you're digging a little bit
- 39:26Speaker 2: deep hearts not really an offensive dynamite player per se.
- 39:29Speaker 1: It's just like an all all purpose, like he'll give
- 39:32Speaker 1: you eighteen nine rebounds, five assists or something, you know,
- 39:36Speaker 1: on a good night or something. Yeah, And I think
- 39:38Speaker 1: if you know, if you have the all over the place,
- 39:42Speaker 1: the PJ.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Tucker five years ago would be a badass due to
- 39:45Speaker 2: have because that dude was on every team he seemed
- 39:47Speaker 2: to go to. He was a huge playoff force.
- 39:50Speaker 1: He's not playing though, yeah, but he's he's pretty good.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Yeah yeah. And McBride is kind of their big bench guy,
- 39:58Speaker 2: but again he's yeah, so yeah, offensively, who is gonna
- 40:04Speaker 2: kind of help brunts it in Just maybe quit yourselves
- 40:07Speaker 2: in the big holes all the time. But to Tims's
- 40:09Speaker 2: credit for the guy that has the short betch he
- 40:12Speaker 2: has the regular season so far this year, that condition
- 40:15Speaker 2: must be they must have an excellent straight coach. I
- 40:17Speaker 2: believe they stole from the MAVs after the MAVs made
- 40:19Speaker 2: that poor decision to get to that guy. His guys
- 40:22Speaker 2: have stayed healthy. He he does kind of ride the
- 40:25Speaker 2: starters quite a bit. But they're here now as supposed
- 40:28Speaker 2: to last year, Chris, where they were like literally throwing
- 40:31Speaker 2: out dead soldiers. Now you got a pretty healthy core
- 40:35Speaker 2: and you're gonna have a good chance to see them
- 40:37Speaker 2: advance another round deeper.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Yeah, and so we won't need to go as deep,
- 40:41Speaker 1: but we'll fill in the blanks and all that, but
- 40:45Speaker 1: you know, we'll go quickly with Minnesota and Indy. Minnesota
- 40:49Speaker 1: wraps it up. They didn't play with their food. They
- 40:53Speaker 1: did win four straight. The defense for Golden State was
- 40:59Speaker 1: still in that they forced a lot of turnovers, which
- 41:02Speaker 1: you know that's foreshadowing what may come with Okay, see,
- 41:07Speaker 1: but I did like how they closed it out for me.
- 41:09Speaker 1: Randall was the MVP of that series, though the dude
- 41:13Speaker 1: just he was a point forward in the damn series.
- 41:15Speaker 1: I mean, he just made all the right plays when
- 41:17Speaker 1: he really needed him. You saw talent or not Towns
- 41:22Speaker 1: we were just talking about Towns. Saw Aunt kind of
- 41:24Speaker 1: struggle early in the series, and then he had back
- 41:27Speaker 1: to back second halfs that were really impressive. He put
- 41:31Speaker 1: up twenty eight in that one second half, which I
- 41:33Speaker 1: don't think anyone's top that this year in the playoffs,
- 41:37Speaker 1: so he definitely got his stuff together. In that closeout game.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Randall had a couple early turnovers and then Aunt and
- 41:45Speaker 1: Nas had some ugly turnovers late, so that's always, you know,
- 41:50Speaker 1: gonna be something to keep an eye on. But I
- 41:52Speaker 1: did like how they I mean, Kaminga like he was
- 41:56Speaker 1: trying to make some money this offseason because that dude
- 41:59Speaker 1: could miss a damn shot. I was getting sick of Kaminga.
- 42:04Speaker 1: But he definitely played really well. Butler looked basically after
- 42:09Speaker 1: that one big game, he he looked like he was,
- 42:12Speaker 1: you know, like that spill did you know, fallout. And
- 42:15Speaker 1: then also when you don't have Curry, then he's not
- 42:18Speaker 1: effective if if you put all your you know, chips
- 42:21Speaker 1: in the road to kind of you know, stop him.
- 42:25Speaker 1: So but overall, I did like how they they they
- 42:29Speaker 1: you know, didn't play with their food for Indy. You
- 42:33Speaker 1: know Cleveland, it does suck for Cleveland. Yeah, some of
- 42:36Speaker 1: their you know, like it's you still got to give
- 42:39Speaker 1: him full credit though, because, like I said, we've seen
- 42:41Speaker 1: injuries play out in a bunch of series. They did.
- 42:47Speaker 1: You know, It's one thing that I hear a lot
- 42:48Speaker 1: of people saying, well, they had in most of their games,
- 42:50Speaker 1: they had all their full Yeah, I mean a couple
- 42:52Speaker 1: of guys are just coming off from a wild out though,
- 42:55Speaker 1: So yeah, did they look great? Because to me, they
- 42:58Speaker 1: didn't look great. The people that returned besides Mitch, Mitchell
- 43:02Speaker 1: was kind of in and out of it. That's just
- 43:04Speaker 1: more of a normal. He did leave that one game
- 43:06Speaker 1: and then he played the next game. You're gonna have
- 43:08Speaker 1: a lot of like you mentioned Brunson, you know, he
- 43:11Speaker 1: clearly he had a little ankle issue, but that shit happens.
- 43:14Speaker 1: Remember Luca last year. You wanted to play Luca at
- 43:17Speaker 1: the beginning of the playoffs because.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Remember how ye he was really hurt healthier and it
- 43:23Speaker 2: was like a.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Couple games later you could see him a little healthier.
- 43:26Speaker 1: But then you know, of course, by the time he
- 43:29Speaker 1: faced Minnesota, he was like, I feel great, Actually, thanks man,
- 43:32Speaker 1: appreciate that. So, so Indy closed it out in style,
- 43:38Speaker 1: got the job done. So Minnesota Indiana are the two
- 43:42Speaker 1: teams that got rest, even though technically being that it's
- 43:46Speaker 1: the series for the East Wednesday, so Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday,
- 43:51Speaker 1: the Knicks still get the rest. But yeah, I was
- 43:55Speaker 1: impressed by both those teams just just closing out. Obviously
- 44:00Speaker 1: the Curry thing, that probably would have been a game
- 44:03Speaker 1: seven and a toss up type series if Curry was
- 44:07Speaker 1: able to play. I do think we may play better
- 44:12Speaker 1: in spots just because that's our team unfortunately, but either way,
- 44:18Speaker 1: both of them got the job done way ahead of
- 44:21Speaker 1: time Tuesday and Wednesday, so they've been showing.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Yeah, just to quickly summarize going state, like, obviously that's
- 44:27Speaker 2: my team. It's a much different team that I fell
- 44:29Speaker 2: in love with, but hey, they're my squad. He just
- 44:33Speaker 2: with Curry out, there is no really no reason for
- 44:35Speaker 2: the Wolves to lose a game. Obviously. I thought that
- 44:38Speaker 2: the well, the Warriors played hard and they didn't like
- 44:40Speaker 2: just mail it in.
- 44:41Speaker 1: To their credit, No, I lose a game if they
- 44:45Speaker 1: hadn't lost that first one. I bet you they still
- 44:48Speaker 1: would have lost the game without Curry in there, just
- 44:50Speaker 1: from like looking ahead or whatever, you know.
- 44:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and they showed why they are a very gifted
- 44:57Speaker 2: defensive team, the best in the league since Butler. But
- 45:00Speaker 2: you do need offense because a guy like Draymond's a
- 45:03Speaker 2: great defensive quarterback to lead a team, but he's not
- 45:06Speaker 2: gonna score the much. And Butler did seem kind of
- 45:08Speaker 2: just a little less engaged and without Curry, he's a
- 45:10Speaker 2: different guy. And just like Raymond's been a different guy
- 45:12Speaker 2: without step in his career too. So I think the
- 45:15Speaker 2: Golden State does need to improve their bench a little
- 45:17Speaker 2: bit though, because those guys they have their bench.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Though after that series, he might get Dude.
- 45:22Speaker 2: I think to megas like, f you, Kurry haven't playing
- 45:25Speaker 2: me for this whole year. I'm gonna go show out
- 45:26Speaker 2: right now, someone's gonna sign my ass and say deuces.
- 45:29Speaker 1: So he was killing him. Yeah, I was pissed off, like,
- 45:32Speaker 1: get this guy out of the game.
- 45:34Speaker 2: And obviously we'll get to the Wolves a little more later.
- 45:36Speaker 2: But I did hear a stat uh that said Julius
- 45:40Speaker 2: Randall was the fourth player ever and I believe roughly
- 45:44Speaker 2: to average like over twenty points a game, ten boards
- 45:49Speaker 2: a game, and shoot fifty percent from the field in
- 45:51Speaker 2: a series, something something along that line. Are the only
- 45:53Speaker 2: people out there with him were like Lebron, like Oscar Robinson,
- 45:57Speaker 2: Lucas some some stat were roughly what Julius Rado did
- 46:01Speaker 2: in that series was upper echelon, like immortal stuff.
- 46:04Speaker 1: He was definitely the m VP.
- 46:06Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, and for the Pacers, hey, there's kind
- 46:10Speaker 2: of stayed out of here man that They're fun to play.
- 46:13Speaker 2: They play up Temple, They're the injury bug is not
- 46:16Speaker 2: affected them yet. They're stayed away from it. They're hiding
- 46:18Speaker 2: from their COVID uh, but they just they play fast.
- 46:22Speaker 2: They they don't have a ball hog and they just
- 46:25Speaker 2: they're They're swagger has to be as high as the
- 46:27Speaker 2: one the league. Now that doesn't mean you're gonna wait
- 46:29Speaker 2: because you're cocky, but what they did last year now
- 46:32Speaker 2: kind of moving on this year. They're even though Cleveland's up,
- 46:36Speaker 2: they they handled they handled Cleveland really well. They're expected
- 46:40Speaker 2: even with Cleveland's injuries.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, and that that you know, gets your own
- 46:46Speaker 1: rebound win the game, put up the Sam Cassell celebration.
- 46:52Speaker 1: But yeah, both Minnesota and uh Indiani made it back
- 46:55Speaker 1: to the Conference finals. We'll see if in fact that
- 46:59Speaker 1: does bode well for them, but yeah, I thought it
- 47:03Speaker 1: was very business like and they have made We've talked
- 47:07Speaker 1: about they've made the jump defensively, and we might as
- 47:11Speaker 1: well just kind of, you know, go into the Indie
- 47:14Speaker 1: Knicks bringing back the nineties. They you know, in I
- 47:19Speaker 1: think I can't remember their first series. I'll check it
- 47:25Speaker 1: out in a second, but there was there was six series,
- 47:28Speaker 1: you know, counting two thousand. I think I think it
- 47:30Speaker 1: actually dipped to two thousand and two, but there were
- 47:33Speaker 1: three and three. It's just something that you remember a
- 47:38Speaker 1: whole lot for a variety of reasons, not just Reggie
- 47:43Speaker 1: Miller nine points or eight points in nineteen seconds or
- 47:48Speaker 1: whatever it was, but just in general, like there is
- 47:52Speaker 1: just it just was a rivalry that just kept happening.
- 47:56Speaker 1: It just kept going over and over, and I think
- 48:00Speaker 1: at the Conference finals, New York was better. It was
- 48:05Speaker 1: two to one this year, not a close game really
- 48:07Speaker 1: in the batch per se. Maybe maybe the one loss
- 48:11Speaker 1: was actually closer than it looked, but it wasn't a
- 48:14Speaker 1: photo finished per se. A lot of folks are talking about,
- 48:19Speaker 1: well Indie beat them last year and in a seven
- 48:21Speaker 1: game series. But as we know, you know, both of
- 48:25Speaker 1: them are better on defense. Well, the the Knicks got
- 48:29Speaker 1: better on defense in the playoffs, but they were never
- 48:32Speaker 1: a horrible defensive team, whereas last year Indiana was a
- 48:36Speaker 1: pretty bad defensive team. But they definitely tightened up and
- 48:41Speaker 1: they continue to tighten that up. But you really can't
- 48:44Speaker 1: look at it like that. You can't look at that
- 48:47Speaker 1: that series last year, and if you do, it actually
- 48:49Speaker 1: favors the Knicks more because you know, they lost so
- 48:52Speaker 1: much talent, not you know that, don't get me wrong.
- 48:56Speaker 1: They not everybody came back, but they added to their
- 49:01Speaker 1: their talent in a major way as we know. So
- 49:05Speaker 1: it's just a fun series. Yeah. Here it is ninety three,
- 49:09Speaker 1: ninety four, ninety five, ninety eight, ninety nine, and two thousand.
- 49:14Speaker 1: That's the sixth series. So from ninety three to two thousand.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Ninety seven was the only year that they didn't or
- 49:25Speaker 1: ninety six and ninety seven that that they didn't meet
- 49:27Speaker 1: in the playoffs, whether it was semifinals or whatever. Ninety
- 49:31Speaker 1: three the Knicks one in the first round, three to one.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Ninety four Knicks one, four to three because ewing game
- 49:42Speaker 1: seven went nuts and MSG and then ninety five the
- 49:46Speaker 1: Pacers won four to three. That was that eight points
- 49:49Speaker 1: in nine seconds, not like nineteen. I don't know what
- 49:52Speaker 1: I was talking about. Pacers won the ninety eight four
- 49:56Speaker 1: to one in the East Semies. Both those were East semis.
- 49:59Speaker 1: Was the ninety for it was East Finals. In the
- 50:01Speaker 1: ninety nine Larry Johnson's crazy four point play and Spree
- 50:08Speaker 1: going nuts. They won in the finals Eastern Finals four
- 50:11Speaker 1: to two. And then the Pacers won in two thousand
- 50:15Speaker 1: in the East Finals. That was their only win in
- 50:18Speaker 1: the East Finals. They did take on each other in
- 50:21Speaker 1: the in twenty thirteen and obviously last year too. But
- 50:25Speaker 1: the rivalry is renewed and I'm really excited about that.
- 50:29Speaker 1: And speaking of Brunson and Halliburton a lot of times,
- 50:34Speaker 1: you know, I don't think you could hide as many
- 50:38Speaker 1: players as you can nowadays in your lineup, the zone
- 50:42Speaker 1: and whatever. Whereas there was no zone, it was illegal
- 50:48Speaker 1: to do and you couldn't. You couldn't if you fronted someone,
- 50:53Speaker 1: you couldn't bring the double list quick. So people there
- 50:56Speaker 1: were still people fronting a fair amount because he had
- 51:00Speaker 1: a true center back there all the time. For the
- 51:02Speaker 1: most part, and just the center power forward combo, even
- 51:06Speaker 1: though the centers were more i'd say overall better players before,
- 51:12Speaker 1: like the mid nineties than from the mid nineties to
- 51:15Speaker 1: late two thousands. That was the power forward era. But
- 51:19Speaker 1: people kind of forget that. They still like a chem
- 51:21Speaker 1: Elijah One is awesome, but his power forward was like
- 51:25Speaker 1: Otis Thorpe And for those who don't know him, go
- 51:28Speaker 1: google him. That dude was jacked. Okay, he will fuck
- 51:31Speaker 1: you up. But anyway, you know Halliburton, you know, hiding
- 51:38Speaker 1: Halliburton on Heart. You mentioned Heart is not a major
- 51:42Speaker 1: threat right offensively, Yeah, Bridges and him do cut really well.
- 51:46Speaker 1: That's where I think Bridges is awesome cutting and finishing.
- 51:50Speaker 1: That's something he's done really well in both playoffs series.
- 51:54Speaker 1: But it will be interesting to see, you know what
- 51:58Speaker 1: team is more successful hiding their weak spot. But I
- 52:03Speaker 1: gotta admit, like maybe Brunson a little bit more wasn't
- 52:07Speaker 1: getting beat. But both of those guys played a little
- 52:09Speaker 1: bit better. But I think it'll be tougher for Indiana
- 52:15Speaker 1: to hide Haliburton if they go to that two big
- 52:18Speaker 1: lineup with Townsend Robinson, And of course it'll be interesting
- 52:23Speaker 1: to see if they do the hack of Shack or
- 52:25Speaker 1: hack of Mitchell when they do that big lineup, but
- 52:29Speaker 1: it has been very successful. So that is one of
- 52:33Speaker 1: the keys right there that kind of lends itself to size,
- 52:37Speaker 1: Like the Calves weren't, you know, didn't take advantage of
- 52:40Speaker 1: the advantages they had when they were bigger, and will
- 52:43Speaker 1: size matter for the Knicks because like I said, the
- 52:46Speaker 1: Calves weren't able to do that. And then you look
- 52:48Speaker 1: at Kat versus Turner. That's been a really interesting even
- 52:54Speaker 1: though we didn't as a Timberwolves fan when he was here,
- 52:56Speaker 1: we didn't we need to play him as many times
- 52:58Speaker 1: per year. Of course Cat did well against him this year,
- 53:03Speaker 1: but you wonder if they're gonna have Turner on them
- 53:07Speaker 1: or if they're going going to have like a uh,
- 53:12Speaker 1: just a different one of the different players that are
- 53:14Speaker 1: like a little bit more athletics, so he can't take
- 53:16Speaker 1: them off the dribble. That's the thing with towns. You
- 53:19Speaker 1: either front them and have help lurking, or you just
- 53:22Speaker 1: get a like Siakam, who he's not gonna be take
- 53:27Speaker 1: off the dribble as much. If you got quicker feet,
- 53:29Speaker 1: Cat can't get by you as quick. We've seen once
- 53:33Speaker 1: he went back to center finally with them, he's been
- 53:35Speaker 1: able to take a bunch of big dudes off the dribble,
- 53:39Speaker 1: and he was up there with en Ones this year.
- 53:41Speaker 1: So Catvisius, Turner, Haliburton, Brunson, who's gonna be able to
- 53:46Speaker 1: get hid there? And and you know, will like, like
- 53:50Speaker 1: I said, will the Knicks actually take advantage of the
- 53:53Speaker 1: length and size they have on which is a you know,
- 53:56Speaker 1: they do play a fair amount of smaller, kind of
- 53:59Speaker 1: thin guy in the Pacers. That's some of the things
- 54:02Speaker 1: that I'm kind of looking at, you know, just in general.
- 54:07Speaker 1: Whereas you look at pace and depth, clearly you know,
- 54:11Speaker 1: advantage goes with the pacers.
- 54:15Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I think that like Turner is like
- 54:19Speaker 2: he's obviously a big big but he doesn't play like it.
- 54:23Speaker 2: You know, like he's a dude that if you see
- 54:25Speaker 2: him like thirty feet from the basket, he's gonna pull
- 54:27Speaker 2: up and jacket three and bust it on you like,
- 54:30Speaker 2: and he does a good job of man, they playing
- 54:32Speaker 2: the ball and like moving it well. So I know
- 54:34Speaker 2: that you're thinking, okay, like him and him and Cat,
- 54:36Speaker 2: but like Cat, like both those guys are like more
- 54:39Speaker 2: of like uh pop and picks and yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 54:43Speaker 2: they're they're not a typical big like we just talked about,
- 54:45Speaker 2: like with Rick Smith's and Elways and like Charles Oakley,
- 54:47Speaker 2: those guys are like bigs, you know, they who boast up.
- 54:51Speaker 2: So I do think obviously they're those are two huge jays.
- 54:55Speaker 2: But they're big, but they're I mean, if they are
- 54:57Speaker 2: each other, both like get a kind of show up
- 54:59Speaker 2: the priimeter a little more so they're not gonna go
- 55:01Speaker 2: down low as much and box each other out, you know.
- 55:03Speaker 2: So yeah, I would expect both him to have some
- 55:08Speaker 2: you know, pretty effective offensive matchups and come fourth quarter man,
- 55:12Speaker 2: that that's like get the popcorn ready, because both those
- 55:15Speaker 2: guys approve it. I think that Bruns gets a little
- 55:17Speaker 2: more of love. And for some reason people kind of
- 55:20Speaker 2: aren't the biggest fans Haliburton collectively across the league. But
- 55:23Speaker 2: I don't know, he's just a different do whatever. But
- 55:25Speaker 2: he's pretty clutched fourth quarter dude too. Yeah, both those
- 55:29Speaker 2: guys really if the balls in their hands when the
- 55:31Speaker 2: game's coming down the stretch, they're gonna be ready to shoot. Uh.
- 55:35Speaker 2: I do think, as you said when you mentioned the
- 55:37Speaker 2: history That's what got me into basketball because growing up
- 55:40Speaker 2: that was like my I was younger, like or eight, nine,
- 55:43Speaker 2: ten years older all the time, just get older and
- 55:45Speaker 2: watching those those series, man, that was fun ass basketball,
- 55:48Speaker 2: Like they hate each other is bad blood. Obviously mixed
- 55:51Speaker 2: the Miami heat with that time too, because they had
- 55:53Speaker 2: some good rivalries with the with the Knicks. It was
- 55:56Speaker 2: just a lot of good basketball different lamre Lores, but
- 56:00Speaker 2: there were some Ana Massis, some bad blood. There was
- 56:02Speaker 2: true rivalries. It was good for the sport. So I
- 56:07Speaker 2: do think from a fan standpoint and from a basketball standpoint,
- 56:11Speaker 2: you know where this year I did think, you know,
- 56:13Speaker 2: throughout the year Adam Silver was a little bit scared
- 56:15Speaker 2: for radiance and maybe the regular season wasn't quite what
- 56:17Speaker 2: he wanted. Per se, this is great for the sport. Man,
- 56:21Speaker 2: This is going to bring back people who are our
- 56:23Speaker 2: age or older, like I remember this time, and like
- 56:26Speaker 2: obviously younger generation made this create some more of that
- 56:28Speaker 2: rivalry again because it's not quite been the same. Like
- 56:32Speaker 2: obviously you're an older person, you're still remember the rivalries.
- 56:35Speaker 2: But like you if you're a twenty year old kid
- 56:38Speaker 2: going to watch if you're a twenty year old kid
- 56:40Speaker 2: going to the game either of those in Indiana New York,
- 56:43Speaker 2: You're like, okay, cool, Like who are who are we
- 56:45Speaker 2: playing against? You know, they don't have that Reggie Miller
- 56:48Speaker 2: John Starks thing. So maybe this creates the rivalry whichould
- 56:50Speaker 2: be great for the sport.
- 56:52Speaker 1: But yeah, I do think a lot of the fans
- 56:54Speaker 1: on both sides that are young, remember that at least
- 56:57Speaker 1: played last year. That helps a little bit.
- 56:59Speaker 2: Seven games, so yeah, yeah, yeah, So I think in
- 57:03Speaker 2: a way, I think Brentson and colbertson away cance each
- 57:06Speaker 2: other out. Both are highly effective scores either elite defensively
- 57:10Speaker 2: and in a way I really think that Turner and
- 57:12Speaker 2: Cat kind of cance each other out too, so in
- 57:15Speaker 2: different ways, but they're pretty easily matter. So who is
- 57:19Speaker 2: gonna who is going to maybe dictate the pace of play?
- 57:26Speaker 2: Is there as standpoint because if you watched the the
- 57:29Speaker 2: Knicks kind of really enjoyed and they kind of really
- 57:32Speaker 2: raised some hell for Boston when they made it like
- 57:34Speaker 2: a half court game. And whether that was the Celtics
- 57:38Speaker 2: being three point gung hole happier the Knicks playing solid defense,
- 57:41Speaker 2: I'm not sure. Maybe fifty to fifty, but I I
- 57:45Speaker 2: truly think though in a perfect world, the Knicks want
- 57:47Speaker 2: to have this be a half court game per se,
- 57:51Speaker 2: and Indiana is gonna want to give you a track
- 57:52Speaker 2: me as much as they want. I'm not saying the
- 57:54Speaker 2: Knicks can't run, but Indiana is like, dude, let's go
- 57:58Speaker 2: go go, go, go go cool. We don't want Brunson
- 58:01Speaker 2: to set up a half court set, and especially.
- 58:03Speaker 1: In the double big lineup, they're gonna want to run. Yeah,
- 58:06Speaker 1: you're gonna want to guess those dudes out.
- 58:08Speaker 2: So maybe one factor look at see is that is
- 58:10Speaker 2: gonna be more up Temple, which I think benefits the Pacers.
- 58:13Speaker 2: Chris Or is gonna be the Nick's gonna do a
- 58:15Speaker 2: little more. Hey, we're gonna lock you down, We're gonna
- 58:17Speaker 2: play our badass half court defense, and we're gonna take
- 58:20Speaker 2: the ball the court a little more time. Let Brunson
- 58:22Speaker 2: do his thing. Maybe the pace of play would be
- 58:24Speaker 2: a fun uh detribute factors. Who is gonna win the
- 58:27Speaker 2: series or play a big part of it.
- 58:30Speaker 1: Mm hmm yeah, definitely like pace and roster dep You
- 58:35Speaker 1: were just talking about it before, you know, Sayakam in
- 58:38Speaker 1: the playoffs anyway, eighteen point eight basically nineteen points, Haliburton
- 58:43Speaker 1: seventeen and a half, Turner sixteen and a half, then
- 58:46Speaker 1: Bar fourteen point six, Nie Smith basically the same, McConnell eight.
- 58:53Speaker 1: Like basically from topping eight and a half one two, three, four,
- 58:58Speaker 1: five six seven eight, So from eighteen and a half,
- 59:01Speaker 1: so basically nineteen to almost nine points they got eight dudes.
- 59:06Speaker 1: So on one hand, you think, okay, but what I
- 59:10Speaker 1: was talking too, maybe hal Burton will need to shoot
- 59:13Speaker 1: a little bit more in this and there's times where
- 59:17Speaker 1: you know, I hate to even use the word, just
- 59:19Speaker 1: shoot more, dude, go ahead, just jack them. Yeah, just
- 59:22Speaker 1: having just be more aggressive because he can play make
- 59:26Speaker 1: obviously too. And maybe that's it where he's just taking
- 59:31Speaker 1: control of the reins a little bit more. And it
- 59:34Speaker 1: doesn't have to be him shooting, you know, twenty four
- 59:38Speaker 1: times or nothing like that. It also could be him
- 59:41Speaker 1: just just penetrating the defense so you continue to get
- 59:44Speaker 1: those shots that you've been getting. But you're right as
- 59:47Speaker 1: far as depth when it comes to scoring, Indiana is
- 59:51Speaker 1: very deep. And i'd probably just because Dante and Alexander
- 59:58Speaker 1: Walker hasn't been shooting the ball, well, I would say
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: they're they're the deepest team as far as scoring. Now,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: you could also say they're the weakest link in the
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: playoffs on defense, the Pacers. I don't think that's being
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: I don't think that's ripping them well for the last
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: four teams. Yeah, yeah, and and and they're nowhere near
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: what they were last year as far as being bad
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: or something, because remember there'd be times when you're like, dude,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: what the hell is that? Man? Like you just let them,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: you just let off and then you just let them
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: score like no problem. So they we've talked about how
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: they're better on defense this year and so that it's
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: just when you have the best team. And then I
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: would say, okay, see Minnesota Knicks and then them. But
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: you know, as we know, the rule changes and all
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: that over the years. You know, great offense tends to
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: beat great defense in a lot of different sports, not
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: just yeah, you look at football, you look at wide
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: receiver corner. You know, we a lot of times the
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: great offense wins now. And it took me a while
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: to accept that, Marshall. It did take me a while
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: to accept that because I was like, fuck, that dude
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: defense with his championship, and that's what I was told,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: but either way, no one's a slouch at all, you
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: know when it comes to that. But to your point, Towns,
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: you know, last conference final, his three point shot struggled majorly.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: You know, it was a tough time to just all
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: of a sudden run into that. Now he hasn't relied
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: as much on the three, so maybe there's something to say.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: But with Towns, you have to activate him, like in
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: with Biggs, most Bigs, you got to get in the ball.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Like now, if Towns is in foul problems, that does
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: hurt him, not just because you got to go on
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: the sidelines, but when you come back, then all of
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: a sudden, his defense more looks like it did years
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: ago because he can't follow the dude. So he's like, oh,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: I'm just gonna stay away. And he always has those
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: still shots of him with two hands up looking you know,
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: kind of funny, kind of goofy. So you know, will
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: they activate Towns, get them the ball? And then also
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: the flip side of that is, you know, he you
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: gotta get him the ball and you got a game,
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: you know, you gotta have play calls for it. But
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: he also has to make sure he's getting the position.
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: It can't be just the one sided street. He's got
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: to be able to get the position straight up without falling.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: But I do think we're gonna see that Towns Robinson
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: big lineup even more. Do you think they'll hack a
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: shack Mitchell Robinson because he he has some games where
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: it's it hasn't gone good at all for him, like
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: really really bad. He had that one game where he
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: was six of six from the field or from the
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: the free throw line. I wonder if they'll use that
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: because I remember one game they took him out right
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: before the time frame where they'd use it. But overall,
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: you know, there's times where you're just like, maybe I
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: would use that, Like for instance, Game one, three of ten,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: Game two only zero of one. They only did it once.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: Game three, four of twelve, didn't do it. In game four,
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: Game five, he was six of six and he did
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: hit some. I think I can't remember game game six,
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: But do you think I think they're gonna go with
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Mitchell because dude, there's this clip going around Twitter where
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: he guarded every freaking guy that had the ball. He
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: guarded five different guys. He kept rotating. It was like
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: he's been really good man, I know he's a role player.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: I'm not trying to say, you know, Trey Towns, that's
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: your starter. I'm just saying he's been really, really good
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: and for a team that doesn't have a ton of depth,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: that's why I'm kind of thinking they'll lean into him
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: a little bit more.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that with the with the defensive prowse
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: he Briggs also the the falling strategy that's kind of
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: some teams doing some teams don't kind of especially for
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: game one of the series, I don't think you maybe
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: take that approach.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: Now Again, obviously his free throw shooting was kind of horrendous,
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: but that could be something where you know that in
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: prior rounds the team felt more maybe the Pacers coach
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: doesn't want to like That's something we're obviously as we
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: when we when we do our next podcast way through
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: the series, we'll break down how it's been going. Uh
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: And also as a Knicks as pertimodal standpoints like do
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: it I mean, if you're in my hot hand defensive,
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: I kind of got to keep you in there maybe.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: And I remember when they use this for Shaq Chris
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: and sometimes Shack hits a couple.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: So once he gets going, if he if he gets
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: on line ten plus times, he actually usually got better,
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: you know.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and again if you make one out of two,
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: is that really like a beneficial thing? Is?
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: So I guess.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: Like you're guarantee you're gonna score every bucket and you're
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: giving up a point every series. So I think that
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: part does matter because it did play them off the
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: quarter a couple of times. But I don't know, maybe
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: game one of the series, if you dip your toe
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: in the water on that, I'm not sure we'll see.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: Uh So, yeah, I think you the court, but we
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: don't get paid the big bucks to the side that either,
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: so you know, uh yeah, Well, I just think I
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: think these fourth quarters are gonna be a lot of fun.
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: I think both these because the Pacer I just I
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: don't know, maybe a little just Pacers biased, But I
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: think that Nick's are our favorite team. As we've shown,
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: they won the season series, they had a better season.
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: But I just think the Cydiana team. Man, if you
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: look back to last year with I think Boston being
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: like the the a grade mark to whole teams accountable
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: to in the East. I know they lost that series ugly,
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: but if you watch the Pacer Celtics series last year, dude,
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: they were in almost every game they had some so
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: could the next win the series? One hundred percent they could.
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: But if the Pacers last year, who were worst defensive team,
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: hugging with the Celtics almost every game, they just fell
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: a little bit short. I think we're gonna be in
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: for a lot of games. Maybe a good way to
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: say this. I don't think we're gona have a lot
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: of blowouts, Chris. I think it should be a pretty
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: you know. In the you know, in the Pacers series
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: and the Boston here, you've had a lot of kind
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: of ugly games. I don't think we're gonna have ugly
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: games this series. I think we're gonna have a lot
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: of like really close competitive kind of like as similar
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: to what the the Knicks and dist has had. Yeah,
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: they we're gonna get that kind of series, which should
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: be good for us and good for the NBA fan
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: in general.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: Yeah. And if you look at the worst three point
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: percentage so far in the playoffs, the Pacers, nor the
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: Pacers or the Knicks have somebody in that category. The
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: best three point percentage playoffs, though in the top five
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: the Pacers have three out of the five, so that's
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: not everything. Obviously. Uh, some of these guys got beat
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: in the first round, so even having them in there
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: with six games, maybe that doesn't make sense. I did
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: notice in the second round that Turner did lead in blocks,
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: so he is a He is a bit of a
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: rint protector too. He can actually rint protect really well.
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: But yeah, I'm really looking forward to this, and like
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: you said, I think it will be a very tight series,
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: whether six or seven. I think it's for sure going
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: six or seven. New York does have the home court,
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: you know. I'm you know, if you would have asked
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: me five seven days ago, I would have said the
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: Pacers and and felt really good about it. And I
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: still think I'm gonna put a little money on him,
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: just because they are a decent sized underdog. But I'm
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: gonna go I'm gonna go Nixon seven. I'm gonna go
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: New York Knicks and seven. Maybe it's just me trying
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: to summon the Knicks in Minnesota, you know, just to
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: see that crazy matchup. Yeah, that's that's what I'm going with.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: But I do think I don't think the Pacers are
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: getting fully disrespect respected I do think that I still
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: thought Boston was the better team than Cleveland personally, but
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: I know regular seasons, I get that, but I do
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: think they were better. So I think they had a
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: I think they had a tougher route. But then again,
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: you know, they played really well against Milwaukee enough to
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: close them out, even though you know, I don't think Dane.
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: If they had Dane, they would have won the series
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: or anything like that. But yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: say that. I think I've seen enough changes in the
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: fact that they did play lilast year in a series
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: and they still took him to seven, even though we
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: know the Knicks weren't anywhere near full strength.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: True. Uh, I'm gonna switch up a little bit. I'm
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: gonna go Pacers in six.
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: I thought you were about to say five, and I
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: was gonna that.
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: If I'm gonna If I'm gonna go five, I'm pulling Mike.
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: I have my mouth on that one too, because that
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: would probably be pretty good odds.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, so at home, they'll they'll take in Indy,
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: they'll take it.
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think that just rebuilds the rivalry from
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: last year. Maybe a little bit of flashback in the nineties,
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: which is again just good for the sport of basketball.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: You know, It's funny. I heard on KG Certified with
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: Paul Pierce. They got a podcast and Pierce is saying,
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: you know, when I was in the Garden, because you know,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: it's it's the mecca, right, It's it's where everybody loves
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: to play. He said he almost felt comfortable because of
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: the environment, like the stakes, like it just got you
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: up to play. But in the and when he played
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: in Indiana, He's like, I felt like I was on
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: the road, you know, like I give I can tell
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: I was an opponent, you know. So it's just a
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: different vibe because you just get up the I've never
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: heard of a player not get up when they play
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: an MSG, you know what I mean. It's just that's
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: just how it goes. So yeah, that that was kind
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: of interesting there. So we'll see all that plays out.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: And then on the flip side, Okay, see took seven games,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: you know to get it done, but they got it
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: done in Denver to their point, you know, the last
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: part of the season, I think it was clear to think, Wow,
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: Denver struggling. Their defense sucks. They're just not that good
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: right now, But they did make some improvements once they
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: got to, you know, to the playoffs. Many people picked
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: the Clippers to beat them, took seven games, and then
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: you know, they did take you know, the favorite by
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: a fair amount. Okay, see is the favor by a
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: fairamount to win the championships. So they took them seven.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: So you gotta respect Denver. But also I think you
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: gotta be realistic about Denver. You know. I heard Zach
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: Lowe say today that like he thinks they already passed
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: their biggest test, and I could I don't know about that,
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: because styles make fights, as we know, but I could
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: flip around and say, dude, Minnesota beat Denver six straight times.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: You know, so obviously styles make fights though, Like I said,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: but it's like to sit there and say they've already
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: got over their biggest hump. It kind of feels like
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: what the Timberwolves were thinking last year. Hey dude, we
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: beat the champs, bro we already got past them.
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: Oh shit.
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: You know. So I do think, okayc should be the
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: favorite in this series. I'm not taking that away, but
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: I don't think it's anywhere near. I think it's closer.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: I'm not gonna call it a fifty to fifty because that,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: you know, I think, okay See should, but I think
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: it's a lot closer to like sixty forty fifty eight
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: forty two, Like fifty five forty five would probably be
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: the lowest i'd go. But I don't think it's a
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: seventy thirty seventy five to twenty five, because that's what
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: the fucking When I saw that shit come out, I
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: was like plus two ninety please, you know, can I
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: wait in line and keep going? You know, like that
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: threw me the fuck off. It's like really good, Like
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: I know that the timberwlves turn the ball over a lot.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: But then again, okay see doesn't play great on offense either,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: and in the playoffs, in the in some of these
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: clutch moments, they haven't played that well either, So I
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: just I think they're overrated. Off of that, they could
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: win the championship, but I think they're overrated as far
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: as the odds go. You can only take so much
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: out of the series during the year, as we know,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: just in general. But it was two to two. But
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: you know, okay See, he didn't have some guys in
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: there at times. I know, one of the games about Chet.
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: So I would say the more important guys that missed
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: were probably on the Minnesota side, because there were games
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: that I think rand only played in one of them,
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: I think it was the New Year's game, but Dante
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: and Randall missed the pharamount. I think Randall Ngo Bear
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: missed them. And one thing I didn't know or did
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: realize that Nas had a hell of all four games
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: and he had almost a triple double one of those games,
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: and being that both of the bigs were out, he
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: played center actually and played good minutes. And we had
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: McDaniels at the four so you know, obviously turnovers. You know,
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: we talked about Rudy you know, not being as as
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: important in these first two series, but no matter who
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: he's gonna play now, it's gonna be important now, you know,
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: you do want it, Like if they try to hide
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: someone a little on, we got to take advantage of that.
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: You know, there's just no if ans or butts about that. Yeah.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: I think Dante and Alexander Walker are needed to shoot.
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: They need to shoot really bad obviously or better. I
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: should say, we need them to play better overall, especially
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: Alexander Walker SGA will will get his falls drawn. You're
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: gonna hear the chant Faull merchant in the target center.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: You're just gonna hear it. It is what it is.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: But he's not the only one that's ever learned how
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: to you know, draw a fall, that's for sure. But
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: some of it cut down on turnovers, as we know,
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: but some of it, you know, I would say we're
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: a little bit more versatile because we can go big,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: but we can. We thrived during the season and even
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: in the last two seasons when we were small against
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: them too, so it be interesting to see how that goes.
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: But it kind of goes back with SGA. You know,
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: we talked about the shooting, right, the three point shooting
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: in the league or not in the league, but in
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: the playoffs. Well, the worst three point in the playoffs, right,
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: Dante's number one, but Golden State has three out of
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: the top five. They have the second, fourth, and fifth worst,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: so they can't shoot either, whereas at least the tim
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: Roves do have one in almost two as far as
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: the best three point shooting in the playoffs so far,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: but I think it comes down with OKC. We know
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: their defense is the number one defense, how you know,
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: Analytically they have tried to say it's basically one of
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: the best, if not the best ever is it? I
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: don't know about that. I don't think that. But is
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: it better than the Timberwlves last year by a long shot?
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: I don't think so. But it is what it is.
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: That's just analytics that doesn't tell the whole story. You know,
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: Sga will do his thing, we know that, but will
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: the other parts consistently you know, show up? And then
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: with Aunt can he get the ball out of his hands?
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: Can he make the right decision? Same with Randall? Can
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: they make the right decision rather than turnovers? Because they
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: did average a bunch of turnovers against a high quality defense,
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: but still this one has a rim protector too, so
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: they have to be smart with the ball. I don't
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: expect Randall to necessarily have the same type of series
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: because that's really tough to do, but at least be
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: very productive. And so I don't know, like as far
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: as two way players, like they are deep as well.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: You know, I can't sit there and be like, oh,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: Minnesota is the deeper team by a mile, because they're
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: not kind of long win it there?
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: Sorry, I think for the series. You know, I really
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: think that if Okac deserved the accolades that they I
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: think they get coming in the playoffs, they should They
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: should not have had to go to seven to be
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: Denver because they are relatively healthy. And why did you
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: struggle so poorly on the road versus Denver team that
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: had some guys get beat up a little bit later
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: like or maybe in the clutch time too. Yeah, may
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: Denver is just undervalued. Maybe Yokich is just simply brether
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: than SGA and need to have a great series. So
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: in the back of my head, I just kept thinking, Man,
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: if okay See is as good as people say, they
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: should have cleaned up house a little bit quicker burst
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: Denver than they did. So maybe okay S's overrated to
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: that extent, just from like kind of like, yeah, a
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: scarious betting standpoint. I do think that one person everyone
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: seems to love obviously is.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: God.
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: Why am I drawing to Blake How's name right now? Uh?
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Chrus?
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: Yeah, who apparently guards Everybody's a little bit dirty, little
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: bit feisty, kind of bumps elbows and ship, you know,
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: so obviously game against he's he's gonna be a big,
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: a big factor in the series. Yeah, I just think that.
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: But on the other standpoint, for my part, I don't
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: watch the Wolves closely as you and some other Wolves
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: friends do. But man, sometimes you just watch them play
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: for a court, You're like, what, man, Sometimes you all
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: just don't pass the ball and they it's almost like
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: goes from forty five minutes. We're like, hey, come down, shoot,
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: come down, shoot and shoot pass to the three. Shoot,
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: And it's almost like, if the Wolves will pass the
- 1:18:38Speaker 2: ball around, their offense is beautiful because then you have
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: Randall can post that or and can go in for
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: a layup like you know, and they have all those
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: role players spot three. He's like, damn, that's beautiful. But
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: when the Wolves have like a no shot, a no
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: pass possession, or one pass and shot possession, man, it
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: gets ugly. So I really think it's gonna come down
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: to really the Wolves kind of control their destiny more so,
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: and how I can, okay see plays them because if
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: they do facilitate the ball and you let raand Lewis
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: part add through his part, but then you also let
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: McDaniels hit threes, kind of hit a couple threes, Like
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: I think that offense is a well oiled machine when
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: they pass. But it does, but it seems like sometimes
- 1:19:22Speaker 2: for a quarter they'll kind of get a little just
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: lose your mind a little bit. And now, are you
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: gonna be able to do that against okay see and
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: still win a game like that? Now, obviously they could
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: versus Golden State. They did round one versus Luca, But
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: I don't know if you can get away with that quick,
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: quick offense, bank bank Russian shots versus okay see, if
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: that's gonna be tricky.
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: Yeah. And one thing of it is is uh not
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: the ball movement, like you said, and that's something that's
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: been there. Another thing is just not shooting as well
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: as they can from three because some people like, oh
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: they need to do this, they need to do that. Well,
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: they need to open a bunch of open fucking shots though,
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: you know, so do you turn down those open shots?
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: Probably not, you know, So they got to knock down
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: their dam and really, Dante and Alexander Walker need to
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: knock their threes down because this is yes, yeah, and
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: that and they a lot of them have been that's
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: the thing. So some of it is exactly what you're saying.
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: Some of it is knock down the damn shots because
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: actually maybe it was just a drive and dish, but
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: that dude's wide the f open.
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: I also noticed Denver had some success, uh when okac
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: or with okay see when they went to the zone,
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: put a little more pressure on you know, everybody else.
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: They did mix in that zone. It'll be interesting to
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: see if okay see blitzes you know, actually full on
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: just blitz an't from from the jump or you know,
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: because they did seem like they're okay to switch a lot.
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: But I think we'll see the old boxes and elbows
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: saying you're not gonna you're not gonna be able to drive, sorry,
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: but good luck. So I think that that is a
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: you know, a pretty big deal. And and you know,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: Rudy and Randall and nas as far as being big,
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: you know, we'll need to show up obviously. The thing
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: about it's one okay see does turn like causlot of turnovers, Marshall,
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: but they also limit their own turnovers. And that's a
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: hell of a combo, you know. That's that I don't
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: like that. I don't like that. We do have a
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: little run here of eighteen games. The Wolves are sixteen
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: and two. This is from a great follow on Twitter,
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: Charlie Walton at Charlie Walton MN. They're sixteen and two
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: and this just postseason in general. The last two years,
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: when they've held their opponents under forty eight percent from field,
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: they've yet to allow their opponent to shoot forty eight
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: percent or higher in the playoff this year the last
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: time that someone shot over forty eight percent. You know
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: who Dallas shot in Game five, They shot almost fifty
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: five percent. That's when Luca tried to take it out
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: in the first quarter. Remember when he launched like a
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: half court three almost He's like, let's just end this today.
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: And you know that he did end it today. So
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: you know, like I said, I already have money on
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: a plus two ninety just because that's not even being biased.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: You can say it's a little emotional, but I don't.
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: I didn't put like, you know, five hundred dollars down
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: or something. Yeah, it's like I'm free, you know, trying
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: to you know, make a bunch of money off of
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: one bet. Another thing I'll say is if you look
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: at aunt Edwards now through another round, is getting to
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: the rack the second most, But he needs to finish that. Yeah,
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: because if you look at so Jannis was getting there
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: ton times had ten layups a game. Ant's almost eight
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: eight a game, right, ben Chero's eight, but he he's
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: closing a shooting forty eight point seven compared to Yiannis
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: who was sixty eight. And then even Randall's like eighth
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: on the list because he's getting to the rock a lot,
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: but he's fucking His layups are seventy five point five percent.
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: You know, James sixty five percent like beside him and
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: Cunningham are the only ones on this list that couldn't
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: finish as much. And you know that's where analytics. You
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: see analytics and then you go, yep, that's about right.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: That's been happening, you know, just watching these games. According
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: to Shane Young, okay See has forced two hundred and
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: one turnovers in the playoffs. It's the most turnovers forced
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: in eleven game playoffs since the two thousand than seven
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: we believe Warriors, and second most since the ninety six Bulls. Now,
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: the one thing I'll say about certain stats nowadays compared
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: to even ten years ago and getting into the nineties,
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: is you have more possessions. Yes, a fair amount more.
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: This pace is more closer to the eighties than it
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: is the nineties in most of the two or the
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: two thousands, you know, so some of that can be
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: stat you know, some of these analytics now, like when
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: it comes to points, rebounds, assist still, you know, like
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: I respect them, right because I compare them to what's
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: going on right now. But I don't like to go
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: overboard to the comparison when the pace is much slower
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: because you have you have less possessions and then as
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: we know, you're taking way less threes right for certain points,
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: and then you're also the rule changes, you know clearly,
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: you know you you just couldn't. You couldn't do that,
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: you know. So it's a lot easier to score now
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: than it used to be. So I kind of like
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: to just compare it right now rather than saying, this
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: is why this player is better because in you know,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: compared to nineteen ninety six, it's like, yeah, but dude,
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: you can't compare that, you know what I mean, especially
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: when it comes to guards, because that's why I really
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: look at iverson and go holy shit, because the power
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: forwards center position in the eighties and nineties, I mean
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: it was way deeper, dude, And oh yeah, you know.
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: So it's it's it's much tougher to score that hole,
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: you know, threes and at the rim. It wasn't that
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: easy to get at the rim, you know. But either way,
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: it's a hell of a stat regardless. That just shows you.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: So I don't know, man, I just think it's closer
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: than I'm not calling a fifty to fifty, but I'm
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: also not saying seventy thirty or seventy five twenty five.
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: I'm going with kind of some repeat magic of last
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: year for Denver something, go Wolves in seven?
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: So what'd you say, the repeat from the magic.
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: Or the magic of winning game seven in Denver? Yeah?
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: So wolves in in? Uh in game seven?
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: Okay? See yeah, And I'm uh, you know, yesterday I
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: did a Timberrolves podcast and I'm not about to sit
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: here and change my pick, you know what I mean.
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: I got Wolves in seven as well. I just let's
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: see them because let's see everybody else score too, because
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: you gotta score, you know, you gotta score too. Sga
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: is a hell of a player based off how most
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: of the time Westbrook is different. When he was a
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: seventh seed or sixth seed. But most of the time,
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: the number one record, the number one player is gonna
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: get the m v P right or or you know,
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: if you're up there, like if you're I don't know,
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: if you're like a second seed and you're just a
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: little bit behind him. But so I I I'm okay
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: with s g A winning the m v P. I mean,
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: they still got to announce the damn thing, right, Have
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: they announced it yet?
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: No?
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: Usually it's in the second round. I remember. I remember
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: that year where Dirk won it and then and then
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: they got beat by Golden State. Actually is that the
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: year or somebody else that beat him? No, that was
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: that Golden State that beat him in the first round. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: because because then they announced it like m VP and
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: everyone was shitting on dirt. And then he kind of
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: used that to fuel him and he he got better
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: at rebounding, he got a little better at defense, and
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: then he ended up, you know, uh, winning the championship
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: when people didn't think he was gonna because they were
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: the number one see was the best record, you know,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: and so that that one hurt because it's like, oh, dude,
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: like you usually don't see that. But yeah, it'll I'm
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: okay with SGA winning it this year, and you know,
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: MVPs usually you should have won it the year before.
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: And like the Jokich, you could say he's having a
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: better year, but then again he's they're relying on him
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: more too, you know. Yeah, so who's to say it's
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: a better year just because the stats say, well, you know,
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: when he wasn't he put up lesser And I hate
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: to even use that word lesser on his stats, but
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: I just I don't think he's played better this year
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: than he played last year. I think it's about the same.
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: I guess in the you know, in this last series,
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: you could say it was below a standard he sets.
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: It's like twenty twenty, but still he had like three
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: good games out of the six or out of the seven.
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: So but yeah, that that about does it? Man any
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: any final words. By the way, through the first round
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: or the I remember talking about the ratings, they were
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: only one percent down for the whole year, regular season,
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: A lot of that just a start in the fall.
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: But they're still up like a decent amount past the
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: second round now, so heading in the third round they're
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: higher than they were last year. So we'll see how
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: that goes. I bet you they want Minnesota though in
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: New York I think ants popularity in the just the
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: sheer volume of you know, New York. You know. Yeah,
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: that's probably their best matchup for all the people that
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: say it's all fixed. But yeah, it'll be interesting to see.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: Hopefully we don't get what we got last year, where
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: it's five games, and you know, those first three games
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: in Minnesota Dallas were fun ass games, but three zero
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: the casuals check out because yeah, that's not happening, you know,
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: and we got I think that hurt the finals too
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: because it was like a week off for both teams,
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: you know, and it killed the momentum.
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: True.
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: I looked at the game seven for the for the Timberwolves,
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: ok see, and it would be on a Sunday, and
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: so they no matter what, they'd have Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: off before they started the next series. So oh, okay,
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: at least it wouldn't just go right into it or
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: anything like that, you know.
- 1:30:27Speaker 2: Sure. Well, yeah, on that note, we're we got some
- 1:30:31Speaker 2: We have four good teams. It's gonna be a fun
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: new champion of Crown this year. The Boys will be
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: back next week have a good night piece,
