- 0:27Music and Welcome back to the Boundary
- 0:47Corner Podcast, along with my partners Brian Siegler and
- 0:50Jonathan Talley. I am Curtis Wilson, and this
- 0:53episode is brought to you by Doctor Jeremy Kelts down at the
- 0:56Main Street Pharmacy, Your friendly neighborhood pharmacy,
- 1:00301 S Main St. Blacksburg, VA And we are back,
- 1:05baby. Fellas, it's been a while since
- 1:10we got together on the BCP. Yes, Sir.
- 1:14We've been doing a lot of other things here and there for other
- 1:18podcasts and other things, but we're back.
- 1:21How's everybody doing this night, Tally?
- 1:22How's it going down South? The cicadas are taking over.
- 1:28I don't know if y'all dealing with cicadas where you are out
- 1:31there in the world. That that home is continuous.
- 1:34Oh my God, man, I I can see why people kill themselves.
- 1:39You know, I'm not making light of it.
- 1:41But like, seriously, if I got put, one of them got in my car.
- 1:45Oh, no, one of them got in my car.
- 1:49It was in the back. It was in the back.
- 1:51Like, luckily it was right at the window, and I let the wander
- 1:57down and he flew out. But to hear that noise that
- 2:00close to me, if somebody put me in a room with a couple of them,
- 2:02yeah, I'm out of here, man. I'm trying to find my way to
- 2:06Jesus, but other than that everything is good.
- 2:11Yeah, man, we got Husk everywhere, man, on the cars.
- 2:13Oh yeah, they. Everywhere Have you hit?
- 2:16Have you hit one yet? Going down the road?
- 2:17No. But I have in the past.
- 2:21Nah, dude, I I, I mean again, they're everywhere here.
- 2:24So I've hit a couple. Going down the road sounds like
- 2:26a rock's hitting your hitting your windshield coming off of a
- 2:2918 Wheeler or something. So it's nasty, man.
- 2:33But other than that, everything is good.
- 2:35Cicadas suck. My son is back playing sports.
- 2:39We running all over the place. We were in Lake Point, Georgia
- 2:45two weekends ago. They had a local tournament this
- 2:49weekend at A at a cool high school field here.
- 2:52But that Lake Point, Georgia facility, man, if anybody has
- 2:57any kids that play baseball like that is the Mecca that you want
- 3:01to take them to. APBR tournament at Lake Point,
- 3:05Georgia. It's the Knox's facility that
- 3:07I've been to. But anyway, Brian, how you
- 3:10feeling? How you been, man?
- 3:11Hold on. There's one thing we got to put
- 3:13up for Brian talks, Robbie said. Just move.
- 3:15Just move to the mountains. You ain't gotta worry about him.
- 3:18We don't have to worry about Internet or if we move to the
- 3:20mountains. Yeah, man, Yeah.
- 3:24I don't know. Robbie's Internet was pretty
- 3:26good the last show he was on. Man, he's moved.
- 3:29Oh, yeah. You did say he was, you know, a
- 3:31couple times. He was a couple times.
- 3:33He was at the school, wasn't he? Yes, he.
- 3:36Would go to the field house and post up at the field house.
- 3:38So you made sure he had Internet there?
- 3:40Yeah. Man, that's dedication, man.
- 3:41Shout out to Robbie Compton, man going to the field house on It's
- 3:46off. Time to record for us, my
- 3:50brother, man, brother from another mother.
- 3:52There we go, Absolutely. Man, it's been, it's been been
- 3:56kind of wild over here. I have not had my truck for over
- 3:59a month. It's been in the shop.
- 4:00You. Didn't get it back though.
- 4:02No, I haven't got it back yet. Not cool.
- 4:05What's wrong, you know? The Camaro over to the house
- 4:08last Thursday or two Thursdays ago.
- 4:09I just thought easier to drive at than the truck.
- 4:12No, I still haven't got it back yet.
- 4:14Man, you got a Camaro. Yeah.
- 4:17Dang, boy, you. I knew y'all was getting that
- 4:19money up there with you. That's that's my wife's car.
- 4:21She likes, She likes. The oh, OK, OK.
- 4:23Yeah, yeah, yeah. Gotcha.
- 4:25Miss Ziegler. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 4:27Miss Boundary Corner. There we go.
- 4:29Yeah, That. That's.
- 4:30Her. Curtis.
- 4:31What you been up to? Baseball brother I.
- 4:34Knew I knew you was going to say.
- 4:36That two kids in Little League, you know, I I haven't been at
- 4:40that field four or five days a week pretty much like that since
- 4:44April. Like those episodes y'all saw me
- 4:47in on Tuesday night. I'm literally getting in,
- 4:49getting kids to bed and sliding in here.
- 4:53Baseball kids, you know school's about to end up this way.
- 4:57Me and Brian's son getting out of the elementary school.
- 5:00They will be middle schoolers next year with Brian.
- 5:03I don't that don't seem right, dude.
- 5:05No, it's not checking on this end.
- 5:09It's we got like we got we got promotion coming up in a couple
- 5:13weeks and it's not it's it's it's not looking good over here
- 5:20and then. Is it you?
- 5:22Or Mama, I'm OK. She she's struggling a little
- 5:26bit and the the worst part's going to be when he when he
- 5:28turns 11. That's also the first day of 6th
- 5:33grade, too. OK.
- 5:35So yeah, that's going to be, that's going to be a double
- 5:37whammy right there. Well, I'm telling you what you
- 5:40you got a son about to turn 11, your son about to turn 11,
- 5:43Brian. Yeah, yeah, he he turns 11 in
- 5:45August. Well, enjoy your kids.
- 5:48People out there, Curtis. I know you got younger kids,
- 5:51Brian. You about to start feeling it.
- 5:53Enjoy your enjoy your kids while they are young.
- 5:58My son came to me the other day. I was sitting watching TV, had a
- 6:01few moments where I didn't have to do nothing, just kind of
- 6:06sprawled out on the couch, not doing nothing, playing on my
- 6:10phone and he says, Dad, I think I'm about to start shaving and I
- 6:13was like, you ain't got know how to shave, he said.
- 6:15I'm talking about my balls. I was like, all right man,
- 6:20that's enough. That's enough TV to.
- 6:22Look forward to Curtis. That's enough TV for them to
- 6:25look forward to. Let me go to bed.
- 6:27We both got 11 year olds going to middle school next day.
- 6:30Manscaped if if y'all out there listening, you know we we we got
- 6:34a sponsorship opportunity here. And I got manscaped already.
- 6:37I'm just wondering what he needs to do, what he needed for.
- 6:41I don't want to ask, so I'm just saying people with the young
- 6:45kids enjoy them. We got a great show tonight,
- 6:48Curtis. What we what we doing tonight,
- 6:50man? What we got?
- 6:51We got a lot of stuff we're unloading tonight, back half of
- 6:54the episode. We're going to be looking at
- 6:56some retrospective, some clips that we have taken roughly over
- 6:59the past year. A lot of good takes, a lot of
- 7:01good conversation about that. We're going to be talking about
- 7:04obviously the Portal editions. But before we get kicked off
- 7:07with me and Brian's experience down at Hardywood and the
- 7:10Tailgate Tour, just a shout out. We got our boy up there,
- 7:13Andretti, up in Philly, Andretti.
- 7:17Andrea, I want you on that game. Mr. Ron's in the building.
- 7:24Hey, less than two months. Less than two months.
- 7:26They go Andretti putting it out there, he wants not only us, but
- 7:30if you're PCP, maybe Brian you, you're the technical.
- 7:32I got PCP Room. Yeah, maybe we're we're going to
- 7:36get it going. Maybe we'll get a little.
- 7:38Maybe we'll get a little promotional tournament going.
- 7:40Hey, put. My put my.
- 7:43I'll go ahead, Right. I'll say get a promotional
- 7:45tournament going to winter. That tournament might get a
- 7:47little little swag, maybe a little something fun there.
- 7:50You go, I got you right. Here, my boy William up there.
- 7:55Yeah, put my boy William up there, man.
- 7:57He, William keeps me sane. He hits me about once a week and
- 8:02reminds me that I ain't ready for Nashville so.
- 8:08Got to let him know I got to, got to, got to keep, keep you
- 8:10humble. That man is ready and I can't
- 8:13wait, man. I mean, I'm going to be wide
- 8:14open, He. Is by the way, Thomas enjoyed
- 8:18you guys both on the huddle. Good job there fellas.
- 8:22But Ron, let's talk about the tailgate tour out at Hardywood.
- 8:25We roll out there great time. Unfortunately the weather put a
- 8:29damper on a lot of it for those who out there.
- 8:32A couple folks come up, chat with us, saw us from the
- 8:34podcast, but the weather put the damper on.
- 8:37I mean, it was storming and raining.
- 8:42They were calling for it like literally starting just before
- 8:45the event, you know you had to kind of you know contingency
- 8:49plan, figure out what you were going to do.
- 8:51They didn't have the they didn't have the the stage set up
- 8:53outside like they've had the you know previous couple years
- 8:57everything was inside on the mainstage that they have inside
- 9:00there still a great event but you know when you when you take
- 9:04away one of the full bars you take away a couple of the pop up
- 9:07bars you get a longer lines for beer.
- 9:10You know it it was a little tighter than you wanted it to be
- 9:13I think with the number of folks that turned out but it was still
- 9:16a really good time good information from Witt always
- 9:18good to see Mikey out there him seeing the event and obviously
- 9:23coach pry closing that thing out pretty strong there.
- 9:27So I mean it was a it was a good time and good seeing folks in
- 9:29the Richmond area. Good, good talking to a few
- 9:32people that came up to us recognizes from the show.
- 9:35So good time all around, man. Shout out two people here, our
- 9:40buddies Phil and Mitch, Phil, long time friend, both alumni.
- 9:44As a tech they both came out, hung out, drank some beers with
- 9:48them. I hadn't seen either of them in
- 9:50a while but good seeing those fellas.
- 9:53But we also we had a couple minutes with pride cause the
- 9:55line it was insane and obviously we've interviewed him before
- 10:00working on trying to get him on again.
- 10:02We actually spent close to 15 minutes.
- 10:05Y'all talking with Coach Cheetah and Gunnar Brewer and
- 10:09immediately like you, just you just feel that.
- 10:13You just feel the energy coming off on this positive.
- 10:15You understand why those guys can recruit.
- 10:17You understand why they're such good coaches because just chit
- 10:20chatting with them, you know, 15 minutes, it was a little bit
- 10:24about everything, a little bit about nothing.
- 10:26But man, like we're going, we're going to try to get at least one
- 10:31of them, if not both of them on the show soon.
- 10:33I mean, I enjoyed the heck out of Cheetah and Gunner, man.
- 10:36They just awesome guys and you like, you know, talking to him,
- 10:40it's like, I love having these two guys on the staff.
- 10:43Yeah, yeah, a lot of enthusiasm from from Cheetah, obviously.
- 10:46I mean you can you can just tell looking at him normally, like
- 10:49you know you can tell he's got a lot of energy brings brings the
- 10:51juice and he's just like that in any other circumstance talking
- 10:56to him and you know Gunner was cool because Gunner, Gunner
- 10:59would dive into a little bit of the the minutiae and the XS and
- 11:02OS with even in a casual conversation.
- 11:04But he keeps it, keeps it moving enough where you know you don't
- 11:07really get bogged down in in too many details either.
- 11:11So he kept he kept enough enough high level where you know you
- 11:14can keep with him and but but he he talked about some of the
- 11:18insurance and outs of recruiting some of the things that they got
- 11:20coming down the Pike in terms of rules that might allow him to
- 11:22get you know more of the on field type role you know despite
- 11:28not having a traditional coaching position on the staff.
- 11:32So really interesting stuff and I'm looking forward to trying to
- 11:37get those guys on here and talk about it a little bit more. 100%
- 11:41man and and and we missed you tally.
- 11:44Like Tally's going to have to just drive up because they do
- 11:46it. They've done them on Mondays
- 11:47because Hardywood's closed on Mondays.
- 11:50They do it on Monday night and it and again it makes sense
- 11:52because for Hardywood it's just it's just free money because
- 11:56they know people are going to buy the tickets and they're
- 11:58going to come out and buy more beer and have a great time.
- 12:00And again again the turn out for the weather that place was
- 12:05jammed like you could not move. So I I'm going to probably say
- 12:10they probably missed 5 or 500 to 1000 people extra coming out.
- 12:15But again great show and again love it love it love to see the
- 12:19vibes out there and you can just again there's there's a buzz
- 12:23it's not what it was. I went two years ago and it was
- 12:26kind of like, OK, Brian went last year and Brian you
- 12:30mentioned like you know, everybody's okay but ain't.
- 12:33There was nobody was panicking, but I think everybody was still
- 12:36a little hesitant after you know, right.
- 12:39But at that point we had had the a good, some good recruiting
- 12:42momentum, the portal was looking good.
- 12:45So every nobody was really panicking.
- 12:47It was just like, all right, we we got to do better than three
- 12:50wins though, right. So everybody was enthusiastic
- 12:54about this one. Every everybody is ready to go.
- 12:56Everybody's jacked up. I mean we see it all the time.
- 12:58We see it on Twitter. I mean there is a buzz behind
- 13:01this program that we haven't seen in a long time.
- 13:05And you know some of it's been earned.
- 13:08I think some of it is, you know, I think people trying to get
- 13:11ahead of the potential, right they're they're trying to be the
- 13:15the, the the guy, the smartest guy in the room because they're
- 13:17a little bit ahead of the potential.
- 13:19But I think the the ceiling is where, where, where where those
- 13:23people are talking about. We just got to get there right
- 13:26A. 100%. Yeah, I'm, I'm enjoying the.
- 13:29I'm enjoying the, the silence, You know what I'm saying?
- 13:33It's like they're doing a great job on social media and stuff
- 13:36like that, but I'm enjoying just not being worried.
- 13:42Like for a while we had this person's, you know, this
- 13:47person's coming out with a with a a a hit piece, this person is
- 13:52is leaving the team and then there's bad press because of
- 13:56that. Then we have, you know, legal
- 13:59things that's going on. Like I'm just enjoying the
- 14:02silence, man, you know what I'm saying?
- 14:04Like I'm just enjoying getting ready for the season.
- 14:08The kids seem like they are locked in and working and and
- 14:13hey, I'm happy. I don't.
- 14:15I don't. I don't need to be entertained
- 14:18right now. You know what I'm saying?
- 14:20Like I'm good to not be entertained.
- 14:22Just y'all stay healthy and y'all enjoy being college kids
- 14:27Right now. That's what I need.
- 14:29Y'all keep working. The season will be here before
- 14:31we know it. 100% And let's talk about some of the additions
- 14:35that's happened since the last time we talked because you know,
- 14:39there were some portal opportunities out there and we
- 14:42took advantage of it, right? Oh, what?
- 14:44What? What's wrong?
- 14:45You see your boy, your boy here. New king.
- 14:49Your boy, new king. I'm.
- 14:50Over here looking at. Hey, I got it coming.
- 14:53I got it coming. Oh, oh, OK Oh, yo, this is you
- 14:57and him, man. This is you and his beef.
- 14:58New King get you APS 5 and we we'll settle this before
- 15:02September 27th. We got college football.
- 15:04We got college football coming out in a month.
- 15:07We'll play a lot of games before that game played.
- 15:09We'll go ahead and settle this all.
- 15:11Right. Well, let's talk about those
- 15:13Portal additions because I think the three that we have added
- 15:16thus far really good. And to meet needed Portal
- 15:20additions. I'll start the first one way
- 15:22back at the end of April, Colin Sheeley transfer from UCLA to
- 15:27Virginia Tech. You know, I think he was like, I
- 15:32don't know where he was in the Portal, but you look at his
- 15:35numbers, he was a backup at UCLA last year.
- 15:38He played in two games, two touchdowns, no interceptions,
- 15:42178 rushing yards on 21 rushes, about 65% of the passing game
- 15:50and it was a discussion we had after spring game right is
- 15:54popped back up and I think we'd feel comfortable Pop being the
- 15:58back up, but it's almost like it's no in game experience.
- 16:02Pop still needs to go eat more because Pop still only about 100
- 16:05and 75180 lbs. I believe that was the last
- 16:08report, right? So now you got the buffer.
- 16:11Because if you take a look at Sheely, not only last year at
- 16:13UCLA started games at Kent State back in 2022 where he amassed
- 16:192100 yards passing 13 touchdowns, 5 picks ran for just
- 16:24about 500 yards, four additional touchdowns.
- 16:27So now you've got your safety plan, right?
- 16:31Even though Connor's built like a Tang and nothing will happen
- 16:34to him, but you got your safety plan and it also helps the
- 16:38development of Bob Watson. Tally, what do you think about
- 16:40this one? Yeah man.
- 16:42I mean, I think we'll talk about it a little later on.
- 16:45We'll have some clips planned and because Pride is who he is,
- 16:49I mean, you'll, when you see the clip, you'll know what I'm
- 16:52talking about. But you got to have competition.
- 16:56It don't matter how good you is, like you got to, you can't get
- 16:59comfortable, you know. So when you look at the
- 17:01quarterback room, it was needed to bring a quarterback in to
- 17:05just say, hey, don't slip up because I mean, I love Pop.
- 17:08I think Pop's going to be a good player for us.
- 17:10But Pop was suspended last year for something, You know what I
- 17:14mean? You have something like that
- 17:16happen, then where do you go if not even thinking about Kyron
- 17:19being hurt. But what if Kyron goes and does
- 17:21what we know he's going to do, like he did this year and we 42
- 17:25to 3 on a team, he needs to be out of the game, you know what
- 17:29I'm saying? So just things like that, you
- 17:31got to be, you know, you got to have a a safety plan and you got
- 17:35to have competition to keep on driving each other in practice.
- 17:39Nobody can get relaxed when you're in a position like this
- 17:41because you you miss out on the opportunity and then the
- 17:45opportunity's gone forever. We we're not doing know what
- 17:47else no more. Like what else stuff's over
- 17:49with. Like it's go get it done right
- 17:52now. Yeah, I mean, I think when you
- 17:55you get the roster spot, you had a situation where you got a
- 18:00still undersized, if you know, talented, talented kid, but
- 18:05undersized, no starting experience, no really collegiate
- 18:10experience at all at this point outside of a couple spring games
- 18:12and some mop up duty short short term last year, you know a
- 18:18couple games. This is, this is where you want
- 18:21to go. You get a guy that has a similar
- 18:25type skill set to your starter. He's got some wiggle, he can
- 18:29throw it. He can do those things, do both
- 18:31of those things at A at a pretty good level.
- 18:34He's a guy that if you need him for a quarter 1/2 a game, he can
- 18:40come in there and get the job done.
- 18:41You feel pretty good about it. I don't, you know, nobody,
- 18:45nobody's coming in there and and replacing Kyron, that's on this
- 18:47roster right now whether it's Colin, whether it's Pop, you
- 18:50know that's not happening. But this gives you a little bit
- 18:55more of a of a buffer of a of a safety valve and it puts you in
- 18:59a better spot with with helping Pop grow some too because Pop's
- 19:03going to get to do a couple things.
- 19:05He's going to get pushed and practices a little bit more
- 19:06because he he's seeing somebody else as a backup getting getting
- 19:10the job done. It's going to give him something
- 19:13to work for in season and and I think like like Tally said
- 19:18that's going to help help his development long term And then
- 19:22you know he he's a guy that really only has one year.
- 19:24So it's going to be Pop's you know, position come 2025.
- 19:30Yep. And it could be Pop's starting
- 19:33position depending on what Kyron decides to do with the end of
- 19:352024. So this is an important year for
- 19:40everybody. So having having somebody like
- 19:42that, they can kind of kind of put in that role and be that
- 19:44buffer, I think it's really good for him. 100 percent, 100% and
- 19:47pops up to 190. I need Pop to be at two Bills
- 19:50when he's a starting quarterback.
- 19:51Two bills. Two bills.
- 19:52You'll get it done. Yeah, six meals a day.
- 19:54Lots of chicken. Eat, Eat whatever you want to
- 19:58eat. There you go.
- 19:59Go to tally dot. Just eat whatever.
- 20:01With how much you're working out, you can't eat too much.
- 20:04You can't. Exactly, Exactly 100%.
- 20:06All right, let's flip to the next one here, because this is a
- 20:08pretty big land. Curtis Perry transfers from
- 20:12Alabama to Virginia Tech looking at his background and how he
- 20:16came out of a prospect when he came out back in the year 2022.
- 20:21So that's only two seasons. I mean, this kids, a red shirt
- 20:24freshman walking in the door. He was a top 60 player.
- 20:30He was #2 player in the state of Alabama at Pike Road.
- 20:33I'm going to ask Tally about this in a second here.
- 20:36This guy had offers from everywhere and he's only been
- 20:38there a couple years. 6 to about 265 lbs is what the listed
- 20:42weight is. We all know how weights go with
- 20:45college kids and stuff. Sometimes it's high, sometimes
- 20:47it's low, Sometimes nobody knows but the caliber of player we're
- 20:52getting here. Tally, tell us about Pike Road,
- 20:55what you know about Perry, if anything, and then Brian if if
- 20:59you can come in and just tell me what you saw when you looked at
- 21:02his high school tape. Yeah, Pike Road is.
- 21:06I mean, they they've had a lot of NFL guys that come from
- 21:09there. I think that Perry transferred
- 21:13there from somewhere out of Montgomery his senior year or
- 21:16maybe his junior year. But he was a he was, he was on
- 21:21one in high school like he was the man.
- 21:23But what I mean, and that's why he went to Alabama, you know,
- 21:27But with his body size, I feel like he was always going to be a
- 21:31little undersized to play for a team like Alabama.
- 21:35Maybe not every SEC school, but a team like Alabama.
- 21:38He's going to be a little bit undersized because he's right at
- 21:40that. You know 6162, I think he
- 21:44probably got up to about 260. They may got him in like 265 S
- 21:48Of course. We love we we always look at
- 21:52Pollock. You know what I mean Like we
- 21:54have kids like that all the time that produce here.
- 21:57So it was interesting because I was thinking that it was like a
- 22:02no go for sure you know for us to get him and all they pop up
- 22:06and was like oh you know he he he's committed to Virginia Tech
- 22:09and I'm like OK, a Alabama boy and a you know Alabama transfer.
- 22:14It's pretty cool for me, you know what I'm saying, To to see
- 22:18how some of these kids played, you know, back in their high
- 22:21school days and then now I get to follow on in college.
- 22:24And what what's important about it more than this year is that
- 22:29you get a young, you know, a young defensive lineman that
- 22:35when we have these lineman that are going to the NFL, we're
- 22:38going to go ahead and say it. We got these lineman that's
- 22:40going to the NFL after this year.
- 22:44You're not just, you know retooling every year, you know
- 22:48what I'm saying? You already building, you know
- 22:50you've already got them there. You already got them bought into
- 22:53the program and knowing what they're doing for the next year.
- 22:55So big gift for that situation definitely.
- 22:59And I think people are going to enjoy watching them play because
- 23:02like I said again now I know high school took college is much
- 23:07different and I have not watched them play a down of of college.
- 23:10But if he can get to anything like he was in high school, it
- 23:16won't be nothing that we've seen.
- 23:18I'll tell you that like he he's tough.
- 23:21What did you see, Brian, on that tape?
- 23:24He reminds me of honestly the the the person that we had on
- 23:28the last time we punched record. OK.
- 23:31He reminds me a lot of Payne's game because he he he's kind of
- 23:34got that interior lineman that plays like a defensive end
- 23:38mentality. He can keep, he can knife
- 23:40through. He's really disruptive.
- 23:43Get Steve. But he's still strong enough and
- 23:45big enough to shed blockers, even bigger guys.
- 23:50So he's not losing in any sort of physical battle despite
- 23:53giving up some size to the bigger guys.
- 23:57You know, I think, you know, if he can Polish his, his skill set
- 24:01and you know, I think put on maybe a little more weight where
- 24:06he can handle some double teams when those come.
- 24:08But I think he's going to he's at prototypical you know quick
- 24:12disruptive 3 technique that you see and and and it looks like
- 24:16that's kind of what we're going with for that position.
- 24:19A guy that can kind of play outside the guard and and just
- 24:22be really disruptive. So I think he's going to fit
- 24:26into that role pretty good even if he's not necessarily
- 24:28frontline this year. I think you know with with the
- 24:31eligibility he has left, we're going to get some good run and
- 24:35see some good things from him. 100%, and I think that's one of
- 24:38the better things to see is he does not have to come in and be
- 24:41the man this year, right? With a nice peoples, with Fuga,
- 24:45with Gillian, with Copeland, it's like now is it going to be
- 24:48nice if he gets some PT, gets out to play with those boys
- 24:51100%. But that's the best part.
- 24:54It's like you don't have to be the man this year.
- 24:56Learn, grow the next year and the next year.
- 24:59Go make your money. Go make your money.
- 25:02All right. One last individual we got and
- 25:05Brian, I'm going to let you leave with this one and then
- 25:07tally, come on me in here. Caleb Spencer transfers from the
- 25:12University of Miami back home to Virginia 6 two and a half 210
- 25:19when he came out. He was a top 15 Virginia
- 25:22prospect when he came out as well back in 2023.
- 25:25So a relatively young guy. Did play a lot on Miami special
- 25:29teams this year. He is a safety played down at
- 25:32Life Christian Academy down in Colonial Heist just down the
- 25:34road here for me and Brian originally from Gloucester, VA
- 25:37out on the Eastern Shore. Brian Tape wise, what does it
- 25:41say in another homecoming, right?
- 25:45Another homecoming. You love to see it, man.
- 25:47And you know, I I like the, you know, we'll say this pride talks
- 25:52about it. We we talked about it.
- 25:54This is a positionally flexible player.
- 25:58He he's got safety next to his name.
- 26:01But I think the big thing is that he's a guy that can slide
- 26:03out, play some nickel. He can be a kind of a a a big
- 26:06safety in the box. He can kind of be a a a will or
- 26:10a * linebacker. So you can kind of move him in a
- 26:12bunch of different plays and play around with your
- 26:14alignments, play around with, you know where you where you're
- 26:18deploying guys. So he gives you that type of
- 26:20flexibility and he's a hitter, man.
- 26:23I think that's the big thing is, is is he's a hitter.
- 26:26He comes in fast, he plays fast, he plays loose, he likes to
- 26:30knock the shit out of people all.
- 26:32Right. Tally what?
- 26:33What you got on? Him mainly, you know, Brian kind
- 26:37of hit the nail on the head. I mean, anytime you can go and
- 26:39get a little bit of, you know, college experience and things
- 26:42like that and be able to come back like I'm all for that.
- 26:47You know what I'm saying? Because when you, I like what
- 26:50Pride's building and how he's building it.
- 26:52Because when it's somebody out there, you automatically think
- 26:55we got a chance at them if they're from here.
- 26:58Because, you know, you look at APR and him coming back and the
- 27:02things he was able to do like that's the poster child, you
- 27:05know what I mean? But the only thing that I'm a
- 27:08little bit kind of leery of is the school that he came from in
- 27:11high school. You know like that that that LCA
- 27:16school whatever it's called life Christian Academy.
- 27:18Like I'm not from there. I just got to go by what I hear,
- 27:23you know and I don't hear good things about the competition
- 27:26that they play, you know even how the school is set up and
- 27:29things like that. So I'm not set.
- 27:32I'm not sold on that but I'm I'm, I'm interested to see what
- 27:36the kid can do. It's a definitely the pick up
- 27:39you know what I'm saying? It gives you, it gives you what
- 27:41you need to to fill that spot and and I'm interested to see
- 27:45what he can come in and do. I'll tell you this though,
- 27:49Tally, coming from Gloucester and going to LCA, he's actually
- 27:53took, he probably took a step up in competition because
- 27:57Gloucester's out there, Northern nags.
- 28:00Gloucester sounds like his country.
- 28:02Oh, his country. It's right on the water.
- 28:05It's small though. It's a it's just a river.
- 28:08It's it's just a rivertown with a high school.
- 28:11Yeah, it's true. Now, the one of the bigger
- 28:14things that they do play every year is they do play teams like
- 28:19they do play. Teams like the math and they got
- 28:21smoked by the math, but it's. But then they're also playing
- 28:25teams where it's just like, God, they're not playing.
- 28:28They're not playing like your Benedictines.
- 28:31You always have some good players come out.
- 28:33They're not playing like the teams from Lynchburg.
- 28:36I don't know. You look at their schedule,
- 28:38Brian, it's just. I don't know it's all.
- 28:41Over the place. It is so weird.
- 28:42Weird. It's weird Play the math every
- 28:45you you get some stuff. So absolutely boys.
- 28:49This isn't on a rundown but it just got reported I think at the
- 28:54end of yesterday. Lamar Law no longer on the Vt
- 28:58roster. I have not I have not personally
- 29:02read anything that why he's left.
- 29:05We know he tried to flip to offensive line.
- 29:09You know, I, I'm, I'm, I'm hoping nothing but the best form
- 29:12regardless of the situation but no longer on the roster.
- 29:17So if you did not see that that was yesterday, did did y'all
- 29:22either see anything on it? I mean, I know he's been
- 29:25fighting some injuries, so I mean, I don't know if it's
- 29:28related to to those aspects or what, but he's been fighting
- 29:31some injuries the last couple couple offseasons, so.
- 29:36Yeah, like like Brian said, I mean I'm nowadays I'm off for
- 29:40kids. You know when you go to college
- 29:44it's a different, it's a different animal.
- 29:46You know what I'm saying? Whether you're trying to catch
- 29:47up to the speed or you're trying to catch up to the size and
- 29:51sometimes you just can't get on the field at certain schools.
- 29:54You know, if I'm somewhere and I just, I can't get on the field
- 29:57or I can't find my position, sometimes you got to take a take
- 30:01a step and and do something different.
- 30:02I'm not saying that's 100% what happened.
- 30:05I just hope that you know, like you said, hoping the best for
- 30:08any kid that that is going and and and making a transition so.
- 30:14Yeah, yeah, whatever. Whatever he's doing, whether if
- 30:16he is transferring schools to play football elsewhere, best of
- 30:19luck to him. If he's staying at Tech, best of
- 30:21luck to him getting his degree, finding those opportunities in
- 30:24the world to make the best for himself.
- 30:28All righty, I know this is big for y'all.
- 30:30Big for me, even though I hadn't played one of the newer.
- 30:33I think the last time I played a newer game, Brian, was when you
- 30:35had 14 when our boys were about three years old and I came up to
- 30:39your house a couple Saturdays and we hung out and played 14.
- 30:42But if you didn't see college football, 25 is set to be
- 30:45released in just a couple months.
- 30:46Here, they had the trailers of a bunch of intros, but somehow
- 30:50those stupid idiots at EA Sports left off the most iconic intro
- 30:54in the game today. So y'all's takes, because I
- 30:59don't have APS 5. So I will be going to Brian's
- 31:03house at some point in July. I just may bring Jack over.
- 31:06We might say have a sleepover or something.
- 31:09We'll we'll have a nice, nice, long Saturday and then the kids
- 31:14can sleep over. There you go.
- 31:17Yeah, man, I was a little disappointed we didn't see any
- 31:21Hokies in there. Yeah, and and more so because we
- 31:26saw Boston College and Duke. And like, because yeah, I seen,
- 31:30I seen a couple people say, well that's what happens when you you
- 31:33suck for this long and I'm like some other people in there to
- 31:36suck too, so. I don't think sucking has
- 31:39anything. To do with it.
- 31:41That's what she said. Yeah, right.
- 31:46So I was a little, you know, I didn't dig too deep into it
- 31:49because I know that's just the initial trailer and they're
- 31:52going to have plenty of more come out.
- 31:55I just need to see us on something.
- 31:57I need to see us on one of them, you know what I'm saying?
- 32:00So we'll see. Curtis I just.
- 32:04Want to play it? That's it I.
- 32:06Don't have APS Five or the Xbox? Whatever's coming out.
- 32:09Hey, you know what? Look, look what Robbie's trying
- 32:11to do here, Brian. Brian I'm paying a lot of money
- 32:15to take my Boise to the Bahamas next year.
- 32:17OK. I mean I am 2.
- 32:20No you ain't 'cause you're only paying for one.
- 32:21I'm paying for three. That's fair.
- 32:23I'm paying more for sure, but. I'm paying a lot more.
- 32:26Let's not even get into that semantics, and also just bought
- 32:31them a game system two years ago with the with the Switch.
- 32:34So we'll see. It'll just be hanging out.
- 32:39Just come up it. It just gives more reason to
- 32:40come over to your house on the weekends.
- 32:42It's true. It's true man.
- 32:46You know, I I've seen some some theories floated out there as to
- 32:49why we're not in there, though I don't know if y'all saw those I.
- 32:52Saw Yeah, of course. You know we we we got the, it's
- 32:56the uniform theory is what we're throwing it out there.
- 32:58Like you know they probably got the new uniforms.
- 33:02So they're not going to put that out there because we haven't
- 33:04announced it yet. Right.
- 33:06Well, why don't they just announce it then, and then they
- 33:08can put the trailer like then just do like the full intro of
- 33:13the trailer, right of just Sandman and her.
- 33:16I understand, man. I mean that'd.
- 33:18Be sick. That would be sick.
- 33:20But at the same time, like, I don't know, like my, my, I guess
- 33:24that theory checks it makes as much sense as, you know, we're
- 33:29not on there because we're dookie so because.
- 33:33There's a lot more dookie on there.
- 33:34Than what I saw it it makes just as much sense as that theory.
- 33:39So I mean if we're, if we're talking you know relevancy, I
- 33:42mean one is just as good as the other at this point.
- 33:45But I mean, let's let's talk uniforms because we at least
- 33:48have gotten word that they are coming, they're coming in the
- 33:52next week or so. And you know what?
- 33:54Whoa, I thought I saw a month. Or so.
- 33:57No, the the quote was week or so.
- 33:59Who was this? Oh, was this probably last
- 34:01night? Or that's no, that's when that's
- 34:03what Wit said when he put I. Think that was AI?
- 34:05Think that was a a mess up? And that or so is doing a lot of
- 34:09heavy fucking lifting. Damn right.
- 34:13For real something. Something that I did forget
- 34:17though on on Perry, I was looking up.
- 34:20I I couldn't remember who was his teammate but Quinn, Sean
- 34:24Junkins, Judkins, that's going to Ohio State.
- 34:28He played on that Pike Road team.
- 34:30They won a championship the year they were seniors.
- 34:33But the one that's going to Ohio State, I think he was at Ole
- 34:35Miss. He was at running back on that
- 34:37team and Curtis Perry was the best player on that team still.
- 34:43You know, so that's saying a lot.
- 34:45Curtis Perry. Curtis Perry had like 25 sacks.
- 34:49The next person behind him had maybe four.
- 34:53It was a big he. He was a big deal in in high
- 34:56school. But in that 10 now they were
- 34:58like 14. To know that.
- 34:59Yeah. So again none of that stuff
- 35:01matters in college. But if he can, if he can get
- 35:05back to who he is and and get a chance to get on the field along
- 35:09with what else we have on that defensive line and definitely,
- 35:13definitely be fun to watch all. Right.
- 35:15Well, let's let's cross the fingers.
- 35:16Get the man, let JC. Let JC cook.
- 35:20That's right, let JC cook. I got to, I got to give him his
- 35:22props. As of now, I got to let him do
- 35:24what he's been doing, so. You're damn right a lot of
- 35:27people shat on him over the last 18 months, and it they didn't,
- 35:30they didn't have to eat their words.
- 35:32By the way, what? What's your perfect uniform for
- 35:35Y'all? If y'all have well, I know
- 35:39orange for you. Make make one that looks like
- 35:44this. Make one that looks like it.
- 35:46Maybe it's a whole? Line 1 No, I'm joking, man.
- 35:49I mean. Tally, What's that Tony Bahama
- 35:51edition of The Hoagie? What?
- 35:53What's a perfect? I I never even thought about it.
- 35:55What's a perfect uniform to you, Brian?
- 35:59I like something clean. I think what I what I'd like to
- 36:03see is something similar to the 99 but give it a little bit more
- 36:10etching. Like if you combine 99 with with
- 36:13what we had and kind of the like O4 to O6 with the little like
- 36:19piping stripes that would be kind of fire to me.
- 36:26I'd like to see something like that.
- 36:27Hokey stones. Hokey stone in the numbers.
- 36:31I like, I like, I like hokey stone numbers.
- 36:33Yeah, that's probably the best element of the current.
- 36:35Journey that is the best element so that it's like it's it's like
- 36:42go old school bring some of the slight new elements make it a
- 36:45little upgraded put the hokey stones now the one thing I don't
- 36:49think should be a hokey stone and tell you going to love this.
- 36:52The arms should stay orange. Numbers.
- 36:54Yeah. I like I do like this.
- 36:58That was that was so unique because usually everybody, it's
- 37:02whatever's here is here. And for those years it was
- 37:05white, but the arm was always 7. It.
- 37:08Was always orange. It was always beautiful because
- 37:10it really it's set out. No stripes.
- 37:14No stripes. God no stripes.
- 37:16I I'm OK with some piping, but no stripes, yeah.
- 37:19Piping I think the. I think the main thing with me,
- 37:21because I'm not a designer you know what I'm saying?
- 37:23But I what I want to see is combinations.
- 37:27You know what I'm saying? I ain't saying you got to go
- 37:30with you ain't got to be Oregon. You know what I'm saying?
- 37:33But don't be Alabama. You know give me give me 6 to 10
- 37:40different combinations. You know what I'm and I ain't
- 37:42saying different like different jerseys but you got you can have
- 37:48three to four different pants, three to four different jerseys
- 37:50and you can mix them up. I just want some clean
- 37:53combinations. Throw some clean helmets, throw
- 37:57some clean helmets in there and just give me all orange uniform.
- 38:00I mean, orange is one of the colors.
- 38:02Give us the orange. The kids love it.
- 38:04I love it. They look good in it.
- 38:06I don't know, somebody said something about the y'all.
- 38:12Remember the the the orange uniforms that we wore against
- 38:16UNC when we killed them the year?
- 38:19Whatever. I can't remember what year it
- 38:20was. I don't think.
- 38:22Yeah, I don't. I'm not on the basketball
- 38:25jerseys. It looks great with that font.
- 38:27I don't like it on the football jerseys, it looks it don't
- 38:31something. So don't do that.
- 38:33If you don't do that to me, I think I'll be OK with the other
- 38:36stuff. This is what I think would do
- 38:38for orange. Go all orange, everything that's
- 38:40fine. A flat orange.
- 38:42Keep your whites like white, Vt helmet, white numbers, but then
- 38:47throw the maroon 7 on the side, the maroon number on the side.
- 38:52I'll I say 7 because I just I think 7 and I think Dick and
- 38:55Hal. That seven, I just pop it in a
- 38:58maroon on the side, but keep it, keep it flat.
- 39:01Don't, don't try to brighten it up.
- 39:03Keep it a flat orange versus a bright orange because that to me
- 39:08when you look at what's on my shirt right here and even your
- 39:11hat tally, that's not the Super bright orange.
- 39:13It's just enough. But the orange that you have,
- 39:16like the orange that's in the the oranges in the logo and the
- 39:19oranges that you have is more the traditional orange that we
- 39:22used to, more of a you don't want to say burnt orange because
- 39:25you think about Texas, but it is that more darker flat orange.
- 39:28It ain't like a we started getting to some pastel oranges
- 39:32or something. Yeah, like, I like orange, but I
- 39:35ain't. I don't go crazy on it like
- 39:36that. You know what I'm.
- 39:38Saying Nike fucked up the pallets Nike.
- 39:40Pallets Hey, yeah, they was. They was doing some crazy shit
- 39:44for a little. Bit.
- 39:44All right, there we go. We just spent 8 minutes talking
- 39:46about uniforms. So let's let's move on.
- 39:50And Brian, you threw on here. Is the ACC officially on life
- 39:54support? If Y'all haven't had a chance,
- 39:56go read Ross Dellinger over at Yahoo Sports.
- 39:58I'm going to make a little. The best paragraph from this
- 40:02article he wrote about the ACC meetings last week.
- 40:05Two of its most unruly children, Florida State and Clemson, are
- 40:08causing disruptions as they work to leave the family behind.
- 40:13Half Dozen and y'all know that's including us of their siblings,
- 40:17wish they had the resources and the wherewithal to join them.
- 40:19Another group, clinging to their morals and missions, are content
- 40:23nestled quietly in their beds, avoiding trouble at all costs,
- 40:27angry fists raised towards the misbehaving brethren.
- 40:31I I I think that sums it up perfectly.
- 40:35Yeah, and I think, you know, I think the problem with those
- 40:38folks angry with, you know, the the misbehaving brethren are are
- 40:43misplaced because the ACC dug its own grave.
- 40:48You're damn right it did. In in the in when we talk about
- 40:51the modern landscape you can you can curse ESPN all you want to
- 40:55that that they they started it. The other big two conferences
- 40:58playing along that that put them in a precarious spot.
- 41:02But the ACC being inactive after that awful media deal put them
- 41:09in a situation where they can no longer compete.
- 41:12Right. So you you signed a bad deal and
- 41:16then you didn't do anything to rectify it when you had the
- 41:18leverage to do so. Those two things are why your
- 41:22conference is not going to exist in the next few years.
- 41:27Yep. I mean, I'm tired of people that
- 41:29just got money sitting back and just continuing to make money
- 41:32and not making changes. So pay the people who are here
- 41:36making the money. You know what I'm saying?
- 41:37Stop being greedy like you say. You dug your own grave.
- 41:43If you if you if you're willing to make changes.
- 41:45We wouldn't continue having to talk about this.
- 41:48The the the college landscape is changing and we refuse to
- 41:53change. We being the ACC and the
- 41:56question was is it a life support that plug is somebody's
- 42:02hands on that plug so it's about to get pulled it's close and.
- 42:08Brian, I'm going to go back to what you said, and it was about
- 42:10a year ago that all the shit started coming out with the PAC
- 42:1412 dying. When you talk about the brands
- 42:17of football out there, that the ACC was in a better position to
- 42:21go get right, like going to get Colorado, go get Utah, going to
- 42:27get Arizona, Arizona State, one of those schools going to get
- 42:31maybe one of those schools in the Upper Northwest.
- 42:35The taking was there, right? Like you can save yourself, go
- 42:38get these good passionate fan bases in different parts of the
- 42:41country to bring in more revenue.
- 42:43You get to renegotiate your deal.
- 42:45And they sat there. They sat there.
- 42:48They sat there through the loose partnership, then.
- 42:52Then the Big 10 acted and got you.
- 42:55Yeah. And then.
- 42:56And then they kept sitting. And then?
- 42:59Oregon or Washington 2? Months.
- 43:01Yes, just you got. If you should have acted before
- 43:05before the Big 10, you waited on the Big 10 act.
- 43:08You should have acted as soon as you could after that, and you
- 43:13didn't. Stupid.
- 43:15That's all I'm going to. Say then you got the leavings.
- 43:17You got, you got pretty much everyone that wasn't Wazoo and
- 43:22Oregon State. Yes, that's that's basically
- 43:24what you got. You got the leavings.
- 43:26And the sad part about what they got is you take a look, those
- 43:30two fan bases are passionate. They're big public schools, like
- 43:332535 thousand people. They're passionate fan bases.
- 43:38And you go get Stanford and Cal. Who are the two least passionate
- 43:41fan bases out there? The least passionate.
- 43:45Yes, you can and you have money, but you know what ratings and
- 43:50people watching the programs or what's going to make you thrive
- 43:53and basically. People need to care.
- 43:56Like right now no one cares about the ACC and and and I'm
- 43:59thinking about the the teams that are in the ACC.
- 44:02I don't think anyone really cares about the ACC anymore.
- 44:06Yeah, I'm serious. Yeah.
- 44:09So I think that's the biggest problem in the in when you look
- 44:13at those teams like Wazoo and Oregon State and like, yeah,
- 44:18they got past their fan bases, but like are they, they're not
- 44:24going to be excited about the ACC, just like we weren't
- 44:26excited about their media markets so.
- 44:30You effectively had the chance. The chance was the 2nd USC and
- 44:34UCLA went to the Big 10. You should have went up to that
- 44:36upper Northwest and looked at UW and looked at Oregon and just
- 44:39said listen, you know it's falling apart.
- 44:43We got Clemson, we got Florida State, we've got some of these
- 44:46other big name programs on the East Coast.
- 44:49You know you can get eyes on you but they didn't.
- 44:51They sat there, they did the the what, what, no business person
- 44:55can do and we three work for companies.
- 44:58You cannot just sit there and not act and that's what they did
- 45:01and therefore it's going to die. I just hope we land somewhere.
- 45:04I just hope we land where we need to land.
- 45:06I know we'll land somewhere. We need to land where we need to
- 45:09land, and we need the land where we need.
- 45:11That's that's one of the P twos. We need to go out.
- 45:13We need to go out and. Win.
- 45:15Yeah, so. But speaking about, you know,
- 45:20sitting around and doing nothing, Dabo.
- 45:23Oh God, do you have the quote? Please tell me you have the
- 45:26quote. I got to find the quote.
- 45:27Man, I I can paraphrase it. Which one do you want me to
- 45:31paraphrase? Because there was two out there
- 45:33that struck A struck A chord, I think.
- 45:36The the, the one that I want is the portal quote because the
- 45:40portal quote is the best one because go look at some of the
- 45:44people that are getting scholarships on that roster.
- 45:47Hey Curtis, can I tell you, did you, did you know this, that
- 45:49zero players that were in the transfer portal in the last
- 45:52three or four cycles are cleansing worthy?
- 45:54Because that's basically what he fucking said.
- 45:58That's basically what. He said.
- 46:00And they ain't won no championship it.
- 46:02Actually got worse. Dabo was being retarded, no?
- 46:06Excuse me, might not need to say that Dabo is being dumb.
- 46:10Dabo used to have a roster full of Arctavius and and and
- 46:16Deshaun's. Now you want wheels and and and
- 46:21John's. You better go back and get some
- 46:23Deshaun's boy, because it's getting a little different
- 46:27looking over there. I knew they was.
- 46:30They. Yeah, when they got a white
- 46:31running back, I knew it was. Over.
- 46:33It was over. They were cooked.
- 46:34Oh. I said.
- 46:35The gun over there. Hold.
- 46:36On Shipley was sick. Shipley was good.
- 46:39I got to get me. Was.
- 46:40Sick. Don't.
- 46:41He might, he might, he might have been.
- 46:42He might have been mixed a little bit of something and I
- 46:45can't and I can't take nothing away.
- 46:48Christian McCaffrey. Christian McCaffrey.
- 46:50He's got a drop, right? But no, Dabo Dabo would be on
- 46:55some Dabo shit, man. That's why we can't, That's why
- 46:58we cannot lose when they come to the House this year.
- 47:02We got to we got to make him look ridiculous.
- 47:04And I mean, because he says ridiculous stuff like like
- 47:07saying we're all about the transfer portal.
- 47:10Every player. We had transfers from high
- 47:12school to college. Motherfucker, you can't you
- 47:16can't be that all. Shucks man, what the hell all?
- 47:23Righty. Just it's it's Hey, listen.
- 47:25Better for us. It's better for us.
- 47:28I mean, if we, if we, if we make a, we turn a giant just into a
- 47:33big guy. Like that's something, yeah.
- 47:39All righty. So before we get to the back
- 47:40half tonight of this episode, we are going to take a break from
- 47:45our digital partners and Main Street Pharmacy.
- 47:49I can probably save you a lot of money and I can take a lot
- 47:51better care of. You.
- 47:53That's pretty much it. My name is Jeremy Counts and I'm
- 47:55a pharmacist. I own and operate Main Street
- 47:58Pharmacy here in downtown Blacksburg.
- 47:59My brother's a pharmacist. I'm a pharmacist.
- 48:01My uncle's a pharmacist. My dad's a pharmacist.
- 48:03I remember he would give me M and Ms. to count in little pill
- 48:06counters. This is just something I've
- 48:08always done, and I'm just lucky that what I know so well is
- 48:12something that I can do and feel good about it and get back to
- 48:14people. Pharmacies are your frontline
- 48:16defense. Pharmacy's job is to make sure
- 48:19you're getting optimal care for the lowest price possible.
- 48:22Also, we take the pressure off of emergency rooms.
- 48:25I'll tell people immediately when they need to go to the
- 48:27doctor, or I'll tell them if they just need a cream over the
- 48:29counter. If there's something that isn't
- 48:31commercially available, if it's something that's not available
- 48:33in a certain strength or a certain form or anything like
- 48:36that, we'll make it tailor made medications.
- 48:38Some of those options save people a lot of money.
- 48:40What motivates me? I get to take care of people and
- 48:43live in Blacksburg. That's all neat.
- 48:47As we take a quick break, we'd like to tell you about getting
- 48:50your free website report from our digital partner, Grassroots
- 48:53Digital Marketing Studio. They'll tell you how your
- 48:55website ranks on Google, on site SEO and social media.
- 48:58No commitment to buy anything. You can get your free report by
- 49:01visiting grassroots digitalstudio.com/free Dash
- 49:06website Dash Report. Now back to the episode.
- 49:10Up man. Last week we made an

- 50:43That's what we are now all. Right.
- 50:49That was just a little over a year ago where we expanded from
- 50:542:00 to 3:00 and then to 4. And in the last year it has been
- 51:00a ride. Man, I I tell you what, Tally
- 51:02still so happy that you were part of this, gotten to know you
- 51:06even better. Got to meet you.
- 51:10And. We we, we text all the time.
- 51:13We talk all the time. We get on.
- 51:14We're on a call today just chatting about what we're going
- 51:16to do tonight and it's awesome, man.
- 51:18And and Sheldon's out there, Sheldon's working by the way.
- 51:21He will be back with us at some point over the next.
- 51:24The hardest working Man in BCP. Sheldon Moss.
- 51:28Yes he is, but man it it's been so awesome these last this last
- 51:34year plus and having all y'all and and and I'm so glad both
- 51:39y'all chose to come and be part of this stuff man.
- 51:44Yeah man, it's been a it's been a great ride man.
- 51:46It's been it's only getting better.
- 51:47You know we we we just get on here and have fun.
- 51:51We just get on here and and and do what we've we've been doing
- 51:54for years. We just share it with the world.
- 51:57You know we just we just find new new family members every
- 52:01week. You know what I'm saying?
- 52:02We're so thankful for everybody who tunes in.
- 52:05You guys spend time with us. I mean I get so many calls and
- 52:08texts and you know messages and things like that or people whose
- 52:13at at at the job, you know listening to, listening to the
- 52:16podcast and of course we love when you guys get on live and
- 52:20we're able to have some interaction with you.
- 52:23Even if you are a Miami fan, we still love you and we ain't
- 52:26going to hold it against you. But you know honestly man, it's
- 52:30been a a wonderful ride to think like for me being nervous and
- 52:35and and and scared to step out to do something new for these
- 52:40guys pushing me to say, you know hey come join us and we'll make
- 52:44it work. And it's been nothing but love
- 52:48since I've been here, man. I'm just you know full of joy
- 52:51and and excited for what we've accomplished in the past year,
- 52:54the growth that we've seen. And I mean that's just getting
- 52:58started like we we got a long way to go.
- 53:01We got a lot of stuff that's still out there for the for BCP.
- 53:04Oh. Yeah, yeah, we go, we're going
- 53:07to keep doing our thing. We're going to keep growing and
- 53:09it's it's going to be a lovely thing to watch and it's been an
- 53:14awesome year plus having you and Shelton on board, man.
- 53:18It's been amazing watching how that was the catalyst for a lot
- 53:24of the growth we've seen in the last year and just appreciative
- 53:29of what you bring to the table and and and everything that you
- 53:32do for the show, man, it's been, it's been a blessing.
- 53:36Definitely has. Now what we're doing tonight in
- 53:40the second-half is just a little retrospective of a lot of our
- 53:43conversations with coaches, players, media members, friends,
- 53:49friends, you know, Mike and David Robbie.
- 53:52People have been on Friends it. It's always great to have and
- 53:59believe it or not, it was a year ago tomorrow I think, right,
- 54:03Brian, it was May 22nd. Does that sound right?
- 54:06That sounds right. Something I I think we probably
- 54:09all three never thought we'd do. We sat down on a Zoom call and
- 54:13interviewed the head coach of Virginia Tech cokies.
- 54:16He gave us damn near an hour all the and it's just, I know it was
- 54:22just, it was one of those surreal moments, right.
- 54:24It was just like that's the coach.
- 54:26Like that's that is the the, the, the leader of the team we
- 54:29follow. He's giving us time, you know.
- 54:36I mean one of the one of the one of the biggest things for me,
- 54:39man, it's like it's just me being a fan.
- 54:42And I mean that's great. Don't get me wrong, Coach being
- 54:45able to talk to Coach, pride of the leader of the program that
- 54:48we love and we follow was great. But to have Kyron come on the
- 54:52show and like I said, man, like for me, being in the position
- 54:56that I was in with my son being hurt and Kyron before the show
- 55:01saying, hey man, I know your son's hurt, just tell him to
- 55:04hang in there and having that conversation, just, he didn't
- 55:08have to do that. You know what I'm saying?
- 55:10Like to have people, to have a family that extends beyond your
- 55:15reach, that's sending prayers up for your family is what this is
- 55:20about. It's what this community is
- 55:21about. You know, his dad, his family,
- 55:25praying for my family and all of us being family, like just stuff
- 55:29like that is why I'm so excited about being a part of this
- 55:34community and being able to be, you know, a part of this this
- 55:38podcast. I mean, you meeting Michael Vick
- 55:42was great. You know, meeting prize great,
- 55:44all of this stuff is wonderful. But things like that, man, it's
- 55:48priceless. You can't, you can't put a, you
- 55:50can't put a a number on that, you know what I mean?
- 55:52So that's awesome. Yeah.
- 55:54And I think that, you know, you said it's ally, like community
- 55:57is the big thing, right? So like, you know when when we
- 56:01go to Blacksburg, we when you know when me and Curtis went out
- 56:03to the Tailgate tour. Like.
- 56:05Just interacting with with people that love Hokie Nation,
- 56:10love the same things that we do and appreciate the things that
- 56:13we're bringing to the table from a content perspective.
- 56:16And just sharing in that love has been incredible.
- 56:23You know, between, you know, tally me and you going down and
- 56:27and doing the the pregame show last year, doing the pregame
- 56:30show again this year with with those boys.
- 56:32I mean, you know what, the opportunities that we've had
- 56:36because of this, to grow that community and be a part of that
- 56:41has been I think the biggest, biggest blessing of this whole
- 56:43thing. Oh yeah, definitely. 1000% All
- 56:47right, so let's do some retrospective, boys.
- 56:49Let's look at some clips over the last year plus.
- 56:53And our interviews. With Coach Pry, some stuff, just
- 56:57us some stuff with some of the players and let's start with
- 57:01this one, Brian. This was with Coach Pry last
- 57:04year in the message that he sent when it talked about getting to
- 57:08know the players. It's a big area, emphasis and I
- 57:14think in year one it's hard to to know enough about each guy.
- 57:19You hadn't been around him enough.
- 57:20Yeah. You know, and that's all on the
- 57:22field, that's off the field, That's all of it.
- 57:25So when you have a whole cycle with them and you just feel a
- 57:28little better about what you know and you can work on things.
- 57:31So I think we did a good job there, much better job, myself
- 57:34and the staff. And then the additional piece is
- 57:37just, you know, really being the best head coach I can be.
- 57:42Yes, Sir. Definitely.
- 57:43Instead of spending half my time back in the defensive room, I
- 57:47was able to spend a bunch of time right here at this desk
- 57:50doing head coaching duty. And so that was coach probably
- 58:02talking about that year one or year two transition and both of
- 58:06you guys, you know play collegiate football And and I
- 58:09want to get kind of your take on that because the way he talked
- 58:12about it is I came in in December, I got like 5 months to
- 58:16know these kids and and he mentions that.
- 58:22What does that say to y'all? Not only him as a coach, but but
- 58:26like maybe what we saw last year.
- 58:31I'll let Brian start. Yeah, I mean, I think the big
- 58:35thing is that, you know, he is big on relationships, right?
- 58:39So needing to establish that relationship I think was big for
- 58:43him. And I think coming in and I
- 58:46don't think Proud was ever going to be a guy that was Dion style
- 58:49coming in and like I'm a clear house, I'm going to bring in all
- 58:52my guys. He was going to establish
- 58:55relationships with who was there, get to know those guys,
- 58:58figure out what their strengths were, what their weaknesses were
- 59:02and then make evaluations based on that given his honest
- 59:05perspective and not just whatever the knee jerk reaction
- 59:08was in those first few weeks together, right.
- 59:12So I think that's where it probably plays into into the
- 59:16most of that relationship building and those relationships
- 59:18take time. But you know I think we saw
- 59:21going into last year and kind of after the adversity of the first
- 59:24month like they started to fully buy into to to that piece of it.
- 59:29And you know that's a tight knit group now and and I think it all
- 59:32started back in in that groundwork that was laid in year
- 59:35one. Yeah, yeah, definitely kind of
- 59:40the same thing. I was thinking, you know, as far
- 59:43as, like you say, relationships. It's honestly man, I didn't know
- 59:48much about Pryor when he got the job.
- 59:51You know, I went by Robbie talking to us people that I
- 59:54trust, Robbie, Dwight, Victoria, you know what I'm saying?
- 59:59Telling us what kind of person they are, how they would come
- 1:00:03in, things they would do, how they would be able to recruit.
- 1:00:06And he's been true to who he is and true to his word.
- 1:00:08It's like he's been big on the the relationship aspect of it
- 1:00:12and he's when he came in, like Brian said, he was real careful
- 1:00:17with the. Evaluations of kids and families
- 1:00:22and positions, you know, like you don't have that because
- 1:00:27we've had a lot of turnover because we had to get some.
- 1:00:30We had to raise that floor, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:00:32Had to raise the floor and raise the ceiling so you don't have as
- 1:00:36much turnover as we had with no bad press unless somebody's
- 1:00:41doing something right. He's the head man, you know what
- 1:00:44I'm saying? I didn't think he would come in
- 1:00:46and be a flash in the pan type person all he came in and he had
- 1:00:49this great recruiting class and then that's it.
- 1:00:51You know what I'm saying? I want to win, but I'd much
- 1:00:55rather see this constant growth that he's doing.
- 1:00:59You know, it just seems to be building and building and
- 1:01:01getting better and getting better.
- 1:01:03So I've been excited, man. I, I, I keep going back to the
- 1:01:07shirt they had. That was what was the shirt?
- 1:01:10It was 3-7 and then yeah, question mark and then question
- 1:01:14mark like. I want one of those shirts.
- 1:01:16I want one of them shirts. That shirts is thick.
- 1:01:18Yeah, that that just kind of that kind of defines what I
- 1:01:22think about how he's came in and what he's been able to do.
- 1:01:25So I it's been it's been a fun ride to watch.
- 1:01:29It has. I think that's mentality and I
- 1:01:31think what he was talking about there with us is I want to get
- 1:01:33to know what makes you tick, what makes you work hard.
- 1:01:36What makes you be the best? What makes you learn and and
- 1:01:40tally? You mentioned something because
- 1:01:42you don't want to flash in the pan.
- 1:01:43Because we, fortunately for pretty much the 1st 25 years of
- 1:01:48our fandom, we didn't know what the hell a bad season was.
- 1:01:51Bad season was winning eight or nine games like it was 1011.
- 1:01:56We're going to go to championship games, we're going
- 1:01:58to win championships, we're going to go to big bowl games.
- 1:02:01So when you say Flash in the pan, Sheldon, you all know he's
- 1:02:05our numbers guy. He popped up something last year
- 1:02:08talking about year 2 versus year one and I think it resonates a
- 1:02:13little bit. You kind of correlate probably
- 1:02:15building those relationships and then what you see right here.
- 1:02:20What I found was that year one for head coach, a new head coach
- 1:02:23in Power Five was not really predictive of how well their
- 1:02:26hire was going to turn out, but year two was extremely
- 1:02:29predictive. So when we talk about, you know,
- 1:02:31new hires and rebuilding and you know how well they do in year
- 1:02:34one, Year two, you know, you look like Elko at Duke or Deion
- 1:02:37Sanders at Colorado. Really it's year 2 that's kind
- 1:02:39of like the make or break. If you're not successful in year
- 1:02:412, it's not going to work out. If you are, you know, you need
- 1:02:44to be at least steadily improving.
- 1:02:46And I think year three is where most coaches would say that's
- 1:02:49where you kind of got it, need to get the ball rolling and I
- 1:02:51think Tech has a really prime opportunity to do that this this
- 1:02:55next season. So I I love that when he brought
- 1:02:59that up that he brought the data up about don't look at year one,
- 1:03:02because year one is so much of who the other guy had what was
- 1:03:06there already and so many people can take what's there and and
- 1:03:11and that's the whole make it make what is it the whole make a
- 1:03:14meal out of chicken shit. Something like that.
- 1:03:16I know I'm screwing up that phrase.
- 1:03:18Chicken salad. Out of chicken?
- 1:03:19Shit, chicken salad out of chicken shit.
- 1:03:20A lot of people can do that. It's that constant.
- 1:03:23Like you say, tally the growth, the building, because that's
- 1:03:27what is sustainable. That is what Mike Beamer was.
- 1:03:31Yeah, I got to give. I got to give Sheldon some a a
- 1:03:34shout out man, I I love that kid man.
- 1:03:37It I go back sometimes and look at some of his stuff because
- 1:03:40sometimes he gets to talking and he's too smart, like he's way
- 1:03:44smarter than I am. So I don't pay attention when
- 1:03:46he's saying it. I just know that it's probably
- 1:03:49right, you know what I mean? But I'll go back and I'll
- 1:03:52rewatch something months later or like I did today, I'll go
- 1:03:55back and I'll look at some clips him and Pete both of them too.
- 1:03:59I'll go back and watch something they said from like a year ago
- 1:04:02and I'm like, damn, they was right.
- 1:04:04You know what I'm saying? Oh, they was on the right path.
- 1:04:05Like Sheldon does that a lot. So if y'all are like me and you
- 1:04:09ain't paying attention when Sheldon talks, get in the corner
- 1:04:14and go listen to some of his analytics when he's spitting
- 1:04:16them because the boy is on point a lot of times, 100.
- 1:04:23Percent. And and and I'm going to lead
- 1:04:26into the next, this is another Shelton because we talked and I
- 1:04:30can't remember this one. This one was Brian.
- 1:04:32I think this was this was during March.
- 1:04:36This was the days down. Oh, my mistake.
- 1:04:40Yeah, this was leading. This was leading up to the
- 1:04:42spring game. Leading to the spring game.
- 1:04:43So we've already kind of got everybody locked in of who's
- 1:04:47going to be here for next year. And Sheldon wanted to focus on
- 1:04:50the defensive line and some numbers.
- 1:04:53Anything on the defensive ends? Not really.
- 1:04:57Honestly. I mean I like the continuity
- 1:04:59there. You know, I think I'm trying to
- 1:05:02refresh my a little bit. I mean you you got most of the
- 1:05:03guys returning, I think I think it'll be a pretty solid unit.
- 1:05:07I know that. I'm trying to think I believe it
- 1:05:09was Bill Connolly who said that returning production on the
- 1:05:13defensive line is actually more important than returning
- 1:05:16production to other positions. So if you have continuity there,
- 1:05:20I mean that's you're you're really set there.
- 1:05:22So I think I think the amount of returning production that tech
- 1:05:24has there is gonna bode pretty well.
- 1:05:26So I'm excited to see study and see how it turns out.
- 1:05:32And I I mean, and I and I know Shelton was looking at people's
- 1:05:36information. He was looking at APR Fuga Cole.
- 1:05:40Knowing him, he probably somehow wrangled his way into getting
- 1:05:44Kamari Copeland's information in there.
- 1:05:46But that defensive line, it's not, it's not a rebuild.
- 1:05:53I I look at that interior, y'all that interior isn't rebuilt.
- 1:05:57That interior is just, it's basically to me, it's upgraded
- 1:06:02and I love the guys that left like Kendricks and Pollard, but
- 1:06:05I think it's upgraded. Yeah, I mean it's so I think
- 1:06:08it's two things. I think the the overall level
- 1:06:12has come up just a little bit, but I think depth is the biggest
- 1:06:16thing. I mean you're talking about
- 1:06:17potentially, you know, Fuga being the, the 4th or 5th guy in
- 1:06:24this crew now where he kind of started last season, it's kind
- 1:06:27of that two or three, right. So things are kind of flipped a
- 1:06:32little bit and the depth has gotten better.
- 1:06:35I think the ceiling has gotten higher and and I think those are
- 1:06:38two really important things that you want to see at a defensive
- 1:06:41line. Competition that you just keep
- 1:06:48seeing competition. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:06:51Like it's always been, you know, one guy or man, I hope that I
- 1:06:57don't want nobody to go down. But man, if you go down, I don't
- 1:06:59know what we're going to do. When you got four and five guys
- 1:07:03and two and three guys that can not have much of A drop off,
- 1:07:08then you start building a roster.
- 1:07:10You know what I'm saying? So I I start seeing somebody
- 1:07:14come out with, oh, Virginia Tech has this many blue chips and
- 1:07:16stuff. I said.
- 1:07:16I'm not even looking at it yet because I don't even want to get
- 1:07:19that excited. I can't remember who released
- 1:07:21that, you know? But I'm saying to think about
- 1:07:25where we were in a. 100. Percent 2019-2020, you know what
- 1:07:30I'm saying to now? Like it.
- 1:07:33It's amazing, man. It's amazing.
- 1:07:35It's it's it's great to watch and I'm so excited for football
- 1:07:39season. By the way, you know who else is
- 1:07:41excited about this defensive line?
- 1:07:42JC Price. Yeah, he should be.
- 1:07:46He should be. JC, probably.
- 1:07:50Is he probably drunk right now? Eating some chicken wings?
- 1:07:55Thinking about what's going to happen during football season.
- 1:07:57Just watching tape and just watching tape, man, I got all
- 1:08:01this to eat with this. Year I got all these studs.
- 1:08:03Let's see what JC did have to say back in the winter when we
- 1:08:07talked to him. There was definitely a need to
- 1:08:11go out and get some guys who played a lot of ball and how
- 1:08:14blessed are we to get in these peoples, man.
- 1:08:16I mean you talk about a guy who can go proving proving player in
- 1:08:20the ACC All Conference. I mean God leave me.
- 1:08:24I pinch myself every day. I couldn't wait to get him on
- 1:08:27campus. Lucky man.
- 1:08:28I just pinching myself every day that would you know she did a
- 1:08:31great job with the prior relationship with the family and
- 1:08:34he would help recruit me Duke him with and you know and there
- 1:08:38was pressure on him to return to Duke and you know he stuck
- 1:08:42through his word and man he's on campus right now lighting it up.
- 1:08:46You know, Kelvin, Gillian, the Highland Springs guy, you know,
- 1:08:51I I I couldn't actually recruit him when he came out because I
- 1:08:53was at Marshall. So he was a little bit out of my
- 1:08:55range when I was at. Marshall but A.
- 1:08:58Little disappointed he didn't go to Tech to begin with, but he
- 1:09:00tends to go to Oklahoma and I think it's going to be a a
- 1:09:04really good deal for him. Man's excited.
- 1:09:11He's pumped, man. He's pumped.
- 1:09:12He's excited. And he and he should be.
- 1:09:14He should be excited. I mean, like he said, You listen
- 1:09:17to what he's saying. Like he was at Marshall.
- 1:09:19No disrespect to Marshall, I mean they whipped thy ass last
- 1:09:22year. But, you know, he couldn't
- 1:09:23recruit certain types of players.
- 1:09:26You know, when he was at Marshall and even when he got
- 1:09:28here, like he had to raise it to be able to go, OK, now I want
- 1:09:32you. Now I want you.
- 1:09:33I can put these people together. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:09:36To go get a Curtis Perry. They don't get, you know, aeneas
- 1:09:41people's you know, to pair them with APR like some high level
- 1:09:45names right there. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:09:49So now hell, from what he's already been doing, what he's
- 1:09:54built with, you know some of the guys that he's worked with in
- 1:09:57the past, it's like what is he going to do with these guys?
- 1:10:01You know what I'm saying? How pretty much you thinking,
- 1:10:04how high in a draft can we get? That's what you want out of some
- 1:10:08of the names that you got on the defensive line, you know what I
- 1:10:10mean? Oh yeah, and I mean all these
- 1:10:13guys. I think the common thread across
- 1:10:15of it is got these guys are disruptive, they they disrupt
- 1:10:19the lanes, they disrupt the rush lanes, they get after the
- 1:10:22passer. I I would not want to be a
- 1:10:24quarterback in the ACC this year because it's going to be Hokies
- 1:10:30coming at you from every part of that defensive line.
- 1:10:36That's true. That's very true.
- 1:10:39Now I'm going to flip it just a little different with the next
- 1:10:42little conversation here because just about a month ago we got to
- 1:10:45talk for Darius Payne and he talked about his journey, you
- 1:10:49know, this, you know, defensive lineman and he talked about his
- 1:10:52experience in JUCO and and for y'all who didn't see it, he was
- 1:10:56a pleasure to talk with, an absolute pleasure to talk with
- 1:10:59that night. You know, sign with the Texans,
- 1:11:02he'll be down there working, hopefully make some happen.
- 1:11:05But just to hear his journey right here about the JUCO in
- 1:11:09that and what it did for him, feel that going to a JUCO help
- 1:11:14with your development coming out of high school.
- 1:11:17I feel like JUCO really helped me fundamental wise like Coach
- 1:11:22Duda, he's a a very well known coach in the JUCO world and in
- 1:11:27the football world in general. Like if I go somewhere and I say
- 1:11:30I was at Lackawanna under Coach Duda, they say yeah, we know who
- 1:11:33that is. And him being the D line coach
- 1:11:36and the head coach, he started at ground one and was really
- 1:11:40building it up and we didn't. Have what?
- 1:11:45Probably any division have like we didn't we only sled if I'm be
- 1:11:50honest. But the stuff we did was it was
- 1:11:53very good that I believe it helped me a lot so.
- 1:12:04Not always do you have to be the highest product to come out.
- 1:12:08Go somewhere, develop yourself. And that's what it takes
- 1:12:14sometimes. And I think right now with what
- 1:12:16we've got going on with this staff is they right now there's
- 1:12:19no storm. Unturned.
- 1:12:21They went to two H they went to two HBCUS, found guys and
- 1:12:26brought them on. They popped, they went and found
- 1:12:28Division One guys, they popped, they went to to see USA and
- 1:12:32found it. They went to a basically a guy
- 1:12:35who went through a JUCO and they found it.
- 1:12:38Yep. And I think that's the that's
- 1:12:40the big thing. And you know we we've always
- 1:12:42talked about the relationship piece, but that that's where
- 1:12:46those things start because you know the relationship with Pride
- 1:12:50and Lackawanna, right There's there's a trust there.
- 1:12:55There was a relationship there. But also Pride, having a
- 1:12:59relationship with Pain when he, you know, was first getting
- 1:13:03recruited before he went to Nebraska and you know, being
- 1:13:07able to use that relationship to create a situation that was good
- 1:13:14for Fidarius and good for the Hokies, right.
- 1:13:18So, you know, when when Fidarius was talking about, you know,
- 1:13:22committing, he was, he was like, yeah, it didn't take me a whole
- 1:13:24lot to commit. I knew what pride was about That
- 1:13:27relationship was already there. So when we talk about going to
- 1:13:31all these different corners and turning those stones, he's
- 1:13:33turning those stones and he he has the ability to do that
- 1:13:35because of that relationship building, whether it's with the
- 1:13:38coaching staff there, whether it's with players that you know,
- 1:13:41he had recruited previously, those relationships matters and
- 1:13:45those relationships are paying off.
- 1:13:47And a school like Virginia Tech that is competitive in nil, but
- 1:13:50it's never going to be the best of the best in nil.
- 1:13:54You got to have those those relationships.
- 1:13:56Damn right. Yeah, definitely.
- 1:13:58And you know, man, it's always something about like a JUCO kid
- 1:14:01that's just a little bit different, like bite to him.
- 1:14:05Y'all. Remember, who was it?
- 1:14:06What's his name? Deshaun Crawford.
- 1:14:08Is that, was his? Was that his name?
- 1:14:09Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So even when he came to Virginia
- 1:14:16Tech, I ain't saying like his numbers was amazing or he just
- 1:14:20lit it up so much, but he just had a little bit different umph
- 1:14:22to him, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:14:23If you'll watch some of the games that he played, like them,
- 1:14:26the JUCO kids, man, they just got a little bit of a chip on
- 1:14:28the shoulder a lot of times. So don't discount them.
- 1:14:32You know what I mean? Don't discount them at all.
- 1:14:34Even like Jeremy Webb, you know, even though we didn't get to see
- 1:14:37what he had with us because he had injuries.
- 1:14:39But you know, he got the, he got when he went to what?
- 1:14:42He went to Kansas, right. Look good.
- 1:14:44And yeah, he looked good So. Hey, Jerrod Evans, Jerrod Evans.
- 1:14:50The go. You know what y'all know?
- 1:14:52One that's never talked about, but you always got to remember
- 1:14:54it. Corey Moore.
- 1:14:56Yep. Corey Moore's a JUCO guy.
- 1:14:58He played at one of the Juco's in Tennessee and.
- 1:15:00Yep. So did I mean thank?
- 1:15:02You all he did 25 years ago was bring every single Defensive
- 1:15:06Player of the Year hardware home.
- 1:15:08So it's crazy. So we talk about Juco's and how
- 1:15:11they get there and Tally's talking about the dogs.
- 1:15:14Don't leave it unturned. They didn't leave.
- 1:15:16One unturned Virginia Beach kid goes out to Iowa and back in our
- 1:15:20conversation on Matassas talking about Kamar Copeland.
- 1:15:25Question. I think a lot of people will
- 1:15:26jump and say Kamari Copeland just because you know, he played
- 1:15:30Iowa Western Community College like he's a you look at him
- 1:15:34like, I don't know if you guys have seen like those videos.
- 1:15:39He. Is unbelievable.
- 1:15:41Like he's absolutely unbelievable.
- 1:15:44He's he's got that mean streak in him, but he's also the the
- 1:15:47kindest guy you'll ever meet. Like he loves Virginia Tech.
- 1:15:51That guy is a mauler and super strong.
- 1:15:54I think, you know he'll fit in in the 2 deep at the very least.
- 1:15:58I think he could play right away.
- 1:16:03So again, there it is. No stone left unturned.
- 1:16:07And is that kind of pivotal. Where we're going to show next
- 1:16:11is when this offseason came and Pollard and Kendricks and Payne
- 1:16:18were gone. We sat here man.
- 1:16:21Like what? We going to do?
- 1:16:23What we going to do in defensive?
- 1:16:25I like Josh Fuga. He's a solid player and it
- 1:16:28doesn't look like anybody's behind him.
- 1:16:30Ready. Right.
- 1:16:31What do we do? Well, y'all we we talked again a
- 1:16:36year ago. We talked with Coach Pry and he
- 1:16:38addressed some weaknesses and he addressed what do they do?
- 1:16:42What does he talk about when he's talking about that?
- 1:16:46To being your first year and it's been your second year, was
- 1:16:50there any particular areas of focus that you kind of input it
- 1:16:55this year or focused on this year more than last year?
- 1:17:00Yeah, I think this, I think, you know it still get back, it still
- 1:17:04gets back to identifying the weaknesses with each guy on your
- 1:17:09roster. And that could be the best
- 1:17:12player on the team. It could be #125, but you have
- 1:17:15to be able to to talk identify those weaknesses and talk to
- 1:17:19those guys about it. And I'm sure in that defensive
- 1:17:27tackle room after the season was over, some hard conversations
- 1:17:32were had. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:35Because you, you, you're thinking about looking forward
- 1:17:37to this year and you're already working and you like, OK,
- 1:17:42Kyron's coming back. This guy's coming back.
- 1:17:46They've talked this guy into coming back.
- 1:17:48OK. We've got this intact.
- 1:17:50We know when we were weak and again we've identified where
- 1:17:54we're weak at. What?
- 1:17:56What are we going to do about it?
- 1:17:59Yep. Probably talked with the
- 1:18:01probably first thing he did was talk with those players.
- 1:18:04He thought, OK, I'm up next. Yep.
- 1:18:07And you know, probably went into that man and he told him a
- 1:18:12pretty big line and let's, let's hear it from his mouth right
- 1:18:15here. Damn right.
- 1:18:18It's my job as the head coach to make this most, the most
- 1:18:21competitive roster in the country.
- 1:18:23That's my job. If I'm not doing that, I'm
- 1:18:26failing everybody in here. We all want to win a
- 1:18:28championship. The fans, the administration,
- 1:18:31the staff, the families, the players that the Letterman.
- 1:18:36So to do that, the roster has to be as competitive as we can be.
- 1:18:40I tell him I I told him that I'm bringing somebody in to take
- 1:18:43your job. That's what I'm doing, So you
- 1:18:46better be on your nose. That's as real as it gets.
- 1:18:49They understand it is they understand the climate of
- 1:18:52things. That still might be the best
- 1:18:57sound bite from that interview. That interview that we did that
- 1:19:00day, he was just straight up and and it's and it's not even A and
- 1:19:06it's not even a joke because you look at what we're doing, you
- 1:19:10know? Not only that all over the
- 1:19:12place. You know we we were an improving
- 1:19:16roster last year We we said well their struggles on certain parts
- 1:19:19and next thing you know we're going to do it.
- 1:19:24Yeah, I mean, that's exactly he is who he is.
- 1:19:28You know, until he shows me anything different again, I got
- 1:19:31to give Dwight a shout out. Dwight, me and him have had many
- 1:19:34conversations off, you know, just me and him talking and
- 1:19:38things he's told me and stories he's told me.
- 1:19:40And Pryor has lived up to everything he said and
- 1:19:43everything he is as far as what kind of person he is, what kind
- 1:19:46of man he is. And then like you said, I mean
- 1:19:49that's reflecting on this past year, looking at the things
- 1:19:53we've done here at BCP and the people that we've had here.
- 1:19:56Of course Coach Pride was here. You know, to hear that, that
- 1:19:59sound bite, that's that's powerful man.
- 1:20:02Like he told us that he told that to Hokey Nation.
- 1:20:07He told that to everybody. You know, some coaches would
- 1:20:09just say, well, I don't want to say that to everybody.
- 1:20:11You know, I just want to, I just want to have that behind closed
- 1:20:13doors or something, he said. Hey, I'm telling everybody we we
- 1:20:18we are trying to be the most competitive roster that's out
- 1:20:21there. I'm bringing somebody in to take
- 1:20:22your job. It is what it is.
- 1:20:24I mean, that's big boy football. That's big boy sports in
- 1:20:27general. You know what I'm saying at.
- 1:20:29At some point you got to understand if you want to get to
- 1:20:31where you got to go, you got to get better.
- 1:20:33So either you got to get better, I got to bring in somebody else
- 1:20:35that's going to get get get us better.
- 1:20:37Or they might make you better. Exactly one.
- 1:20:39One of the two. You know thinking about it's
- 1:20:43just crazy to me to think like where we come from.
- 1:20:46And no disrespect to anybody who's underrated, underrated or
- 1:20:51unranked because look at Dorian strong.
- 1:20:54You know what I'm saying? Like, but you can't build a
- 1:20:56roster of all Dorian strong's. You got to have some can't
- 1:20:59misses, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:21:01Especially when they're close to they're in your recruiting
- 1:21:05footprint. Look at our by our receiver
- 1:21:07room. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:21:08You go to HBCU and you get the Quan Felton who's going to be a
- 1:21:12monster. We're going to go ahead and call
- 1:21:15NFL, you know what I'm saying? You go get Jay Lane, who even
- 1:21:18before he got here, we was already calling NFL.
- 1:21:21Then what do you do? How do you follow that up?
- 1:21:24You go into high school and you recruit Brody Adams stood.
- 1:21:29You go recruit Chance Wiggins stood, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:21:33Then you got Aiden Green waiting in the wings.
- 1:21:34It's like, what are they going to do if they going to compete
- 1:21:37to get on the field, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:21:39So that is crazy to me. Just to think of where we came
- 1:21:43from and the recruiting probably the idiot he fofos he tipping
- 1:21:52what grain he's ripping. You know we got.
- 1:21:55We got to go ahead and keep it. He's not been, he's not been in
- 1:21:58that FOFO for a long time, so. We just got to change it this
- 1:22:02offseason. It ain't.
- 1:22:03Happening. We just got to go ahead and let
- 1:22:05him ride. I'm scared for him to change it.
- 1:22:07Shit he got. At this, at this point, at this
- 1:22:09point, it's bad luck to change it.
- 1:22:11Hey, just keep doing what you're doing, man.
- 1:22:13NFL Heat. There you go.
- 1:22:15All right, so talking back to about what we talking about make
- 1:22:20too competitive roster. One of the big moves is all
- 1:22:23season because y'all two talked about a lot on defensive side of
- 1:22:26the ball not having a Mike linebacker.
- 1:22:28They didn't rest on their laurels.
- 1:22:31They went and told those guys in that middle linebacker room
- 1:22:34we're bringing somebody in to take your job.
- 1:22:36And back in. Back in April, we had a chance
- 1:22:39to sit down with David Cunningham from Tech sideline
- 1:22:42and Mike McDaniel, the man who is on 6000 Hokie podcast,
- 1:22:45including the Hokie Hangover. We talked about the linebacker
- 1:22:48depth and Sam Brumfield. Not that Jenkins is back too.
- 1:22:53Like this is a, you know, you add Brumfield and Jenkins
- 1:22:57together. If Virginia Tech can kind of get
- 1:23:00some things straightened out there at will, I think the
- 1:23:03Hokies will be in good shape there.
- 1:23:05You got Gay Williams coming in. I think the depth is starting to
- 1:23:10develop there, assuming they can stay healthy.
- 1:23:13Yeah. Go ahead, Valerie.
- 1:23:16No, I was just saying. I mean, David kind of hit the
- 1:23:19nail on the head when he's talking about the depth piece of
- 1:23:21it, you know what I'm saying? Like a lot of years we may have,
- 1:23:25man, it's going to be a good year, then it's football.
- 1:23:28This guy gets hurt and then you get somebody put in behind him.
- 1:23:32That's just a total drop off from who that first the first
- 1:23:38line of defense is. And and the honest truth is you
- 1:23:46we talk about death and tell you to mention it tonight.
- 1:23:48It's the depth we're getting that depth where it's you're not
- 1:23:51worried anymore and Brian you were mentioning about Spencer
- 1:23:54earlier today. Yeah, I mean, we, you know, we
- 1:23:57talked about his skill set and a guy like that that can come in
- 1:24:00for you. You know, we had a big question
- 1:24:02mark. You know who's going to be your
- 1:24:04nickelback, who's going to be kind of that you know third or
- 1:24:08fourth safety in the rotation. That kind of answers some of
- 1:24:11your questions there. And that's another guy that can
- 1:24:13also slide in, play some star, potentially play some will.
- 1:24:17He's got that type of build, he's got that type of skill set.
- 1:24:20So having that position flexibility helping in in those
- 1:24:23depth areas that's going to pay big dividends because you know
- 1:24:28especially a safety position where you know you're 1 hit
- 1:24:31that's two inches higher than you you you planned it to be
- 1:24:35from being out for the rest of the game.
- 1:24:37So this isn't even just a injury issue right It's this is this is
- 1:24:43a targeting situation too. I mean we had we got burned a
- 1:24:46couple times last year and you know that was a a position of
- 1:24:49concern last year. I I feel pretty good about it
- 1:24:53this year in terms of some of the young guys stepping up and
- 1:24:56and some of the the more veteran guys.
- 1:24:58But getting another extra piece that's had some collegiate
- 1:25:02experience that has been on the field for a Power Five team
- 1:25:06that's going to that's going to help us build that depth and
- 1:25:10continue to put offenses behind the 8 ball more consistently.
- 1:25:18Agreed. We're going from transfers from
- 1:25:21Alabama and Miami, and we're going from transfers from
- 1:25:25Gardner, Will to Alabama and Miami.
- 1:25:28I'll take it. Big step, big steps up, big
- 1:25:32steps up. Well, we've been talking a lot
- 1:25:34of defense, the first part here, but we got to sit down about 30
- 1:25:39minutes and talk with Tyler Bowen.
- 1:25:41And first of all, that guy's smart when it comes to the
- 1:25:45offense. You can tell just by his
- 1:25:46conversation with us. If you haven't seen him talk
- 1:25:49elsewhere but talking about tightening it up, let's tighten
- 1:25:53it up that we were coaching. How can we coach this better?
- 1:25:57How can we make it simpler to install?
- 1:26:00So we're looking at all that. And what I see, there's just so
- 1:26:02many areas that we just need to tighten up, right?
- 1:26:06We're obviously going to evolve from a scheme standpoint.
- 1:26:09There were some, you know, there's some good plays as the
- 1:26:11season unfolded. But if we can just tighten
- 1:26:13everything up, if we can understand a little bit more of
- 1:26:16the why behind what we're doing, if we can get our hat 6 inches
- 1:26:20over on an outside run, if we can hit those landmarks, there's
- 1:26:23a lot more yards and a lot more points to go on the field.
- 1:26:26And that's and again, I'll tie that right back into the thing
- 1:26:29we started with. That's the beauty of Phase one,
- 1:26:32right? It's about those things.
- 1:26:33It's it's about the first step. It's about not false stepping.
- 1:26:36It's about the drive off the ball.
- 1:26:39The release against outside leverage press.
- 1:26:41Right release against outside leverage press.
- 1:26:46God, Jesus, what a football saying right there, boys.
- 1:26:50Man, you can listen to him talk for a while like I want to, I
- 1:26:54need, I need to get a chalk talk with just Coach Tebow, a grease
- 1:26:58board. Let's draw some things up.
- 1:27:01Let's talk about it. Let's talk about the why.
- 1:27:03Let's talk about the technique we need to deploy to get that
- 1:27:07job done. Let's do that for a couple
- 1:27:09hours. That sounds like a good time to
- 1:27:11me, man. But enough.
- 1:27:13What he what he's also talking about, He's talking about
- 1:27:15shoring up those fundamentals, making sure that you're you're
- 1:27:19not forgetting about the fundamentals as you continue to
- 1:27:23build upon the offensive philosophies that he's
- 1:27:26installing. And this goes back to kind of
- 1:27:30how the team, the make up of the team, right?
- 1:27:33So you can start to Polish those fundamentals and you can start
- 1:27:38to install some of those new things because of the continuity
- 1:27:41that we're going to see in this offense this year, right?
- 1:27:45Because we got a whole lot of guys coming back on the
- 1:27:47offensive side of the ball. By my count, everybody but our
- 1:27:53second tight end. Yeah.
- 1:27:57That's it. That's it.
- 1:28:01I'm excited, Robbie said. He coaching wide receivers.
- 1:28:04I don't know how that's going to go.
- 1:28:08Robbie, you got to get a video of that.
- 1:28:10Please, please. But I think, I think overall
- 1:28:13when when you hear that it's it's it's not he talked about
- 1:28:17that. Remember that episode was down
- 1:28:18to the stubs. We got to take it down, which is
- 1:28:20right. But if he got to that point is
- 1:28:22like tightening it up because what he's telling you there,
- 1:28:25because to Brian's point, a lot of guys are returning.
- 1:28:28We don't need a makeover. That was last year.
- 1:28:31We just got to tighten up those little things and do just the
- 1:28:34little things be better just a little bit more.
- 1:28:38Because if we better just a little bit more, it goes a lot
- 1:28:41longer. And to that point, when we spoke
- 1:28:44with Kyron, drones back in the winter.
- 1:28:48Talks about those guys coming back, talks about what a
- 1:28:53situation we have on our hands this year.
- 1:28:57Love hearing you kind of stepping up with a leadership
- 1:29:00role from that perspective and getting guys on board and
- 1:29:04saying, all right, we got some unfinished business and the
- 1:29:06better, the better we come back and do it next year, the more
- 1:29:09that that kind of raises everybody's ship for for the
- 1:29:11future, right. Yeah, it's basically a win, win
- 1:29:13situation for everybody. Virginia Tech win games, you get
- 1:29:17seen, you get to the goal, you want to be in the league and
- 1:29:20that's where everybody want to go in college football.
- 1:29:22So it's a win win situation. I love it when a playing comes
- 1:29:31together. A win, win.
- 1:29:34A win. Win.
- 1:29:35It's a win. Win Virginia Tech, win games.
- 1:29:37You get to get seen and I get to meet Kevin and the boys in that.
- 1:29:43Everybody wins. Everybody wins.
- 1:29:46Everybody wins in that situation and again, it's and with all
- 1:29:51those guys coming back, just tighten it up a little.
- 1:29:54Just tighten it up a little. Tighten it up a little.
- 1:29:57It ain't going to be a lot of teams that can do anything with
- 1:29:59this Hokies roster this year. Oh.
- 1:30:02Yeah, it's going to be. Tough man.
- 1:30:05We, we, if we. Show up and we play
- 1:30:07consistently. If we consistently play to
- 1:30:10anywhere near our capability every week, it's going to be
- 1:30:15trouble because there there's there's dudes all over the place
- 1:30:18at the skill positions. I'm already talking shit, man.
- 1:30:22I ain't saying no ifs. I'm saying when we get out here
- 1:30:24and do what we going to do up that if shit I don't went
- 1:30:28through too many years even when we was even I don't want to call
- 1:30:31us even when we were sorry I was still talking shit.
- 1:30:35So you know what I think we when I know we going to be.
- 1:30:39We got some juice. We got some juice man.
- 1:30:43Hey we got QB one. We got QB one in the building.
- 1:30:47We good to go. Hey, it's going to be a fun ride
- 1:30:50this year. I'm telling y'all, if you
- 1:30:52following me and you don't like cussing and you and you don't
- 1:30:57and you don't want to hear no shit talking, Hey, I just took a
- 1:31:00little hiatus from from X Twitter, whatever it's called,
- 1:31:05because I'd have had some stuff going on in my in in my normal
- 1:31:08life. Good stuff.
- 1:31:11But when football come around, y'all y'all have to put me on
- 1:31:14mute. I'm telling you right now.
- 1:31:18I'm retweeting everything you put out.
- 1:31:20Not y'all to, not y'all to. I'm talking about the people
- 1:31:22that's watching the UVA fans. My boys, Ike shout out to Ike,
- 1:31:28shout out to DJOG. Y'all going to have to put me on
- 1:31:32mute, man. I'm telling you right now, y'all
- 1:31:34going to hate me. It's old.
- 1:31:37It's old Twitter coming back, baby.
- 1:31:39Oh. Buddy, oh, buddy.
- 1:31:41Because you know. Because you know why?
- 1:31:44Because winning matters. Tell your.
- 1:31:47Husband winning matters. Yes, Sir.
- 1:31:50And then motherfucker like me, you ain't how much does I want
- 1:31:53to win? But you just got to be give me a
- 1:31:55sliver for me to start talking crazy.
- 1:31:58I I think winning games is very important.
- 1:32:00Obviously that's that's the ultimate, you know, on the
- 1:32:03field, that's the ultimate goal, right?
- 1:32:07But at the same time, I think the belief in the way we're
- 1:32:12doing things, I think the belief in how people are treated, I
- 1:32:16think the belief in the experience is all important too.
- 1:32:21I'm not going to sit here and say guys are going to be happy
- 1:32:23winning three games because they're not.
- 1:32:24Nobody is. But as long as everybody feels
- 1:32:27like we're going in the right direction, we're doing the right
- 1:32:30things. There's improvements.
- 1:32:31You know, that's that's what I hope for.
- 1:32:33And I think that's what's really important right now with where
- 1:32:36we're at as a program. Tally, say what you were saying,
- 1:32:40man, we pressed the button too soon.
- 1:32:43You did it right. You.
- 1:32:45You had to slow me down. I'm going to say this Curtis,
- 1:32:4837. Question Mark.
- 1:32:54Now I want you to fill in the question mark.
- 1:32:55Oh, it's too early, man. I got to save that content.
- 1:32:57Brian 37. Billy Bob said it the best 1010
- 1:33:05a fucking 10. It going 10.
- 1:33:09I was say 10, I was going to say 10 too.
- 1:33:12Hold on. See, I'm holding it because I
- 1:33:14was bullish at 8:00 last year. I was the only one that put that
- 1:33:18number out there. Yeah, you was.
- 1:33:21I was the only one, and I still attest.
- 1:33:23If Kyron Drone starts game one, we hit eight.
- 1:33:26If not, nine wins. Yeah, you was.
- 1:33:29You said it. I'd said 8.
- 1:33:31Yeah, people thought I was nuts. I was.
- 1:33:33I was on six. You said you said it 8. 8 And I
- 1:33:38still feel confident. You, you, you, you Just wait
- 1:33:41till August, Tally, and I'm going to get quite a few of
- 1:33:45these in me. And ain't no telling what's
- 1:33:47going to come out of my lips. Hey man, you know when we talk
- 1:33:49about winning, you got to, you got to start with the
- 1:33:51fundamentals and you got to start with what the guys need to
- 1:33:55improve and what they need to work on.
- 1:33:57And the big thing that we're always preaching this
- 1:33:59competition right, Coach Price preaching it.
- 1:34:02And we had coach Tyler Bowen on. We already talked to him a
- 1:34:07little bit about the XS and OS, but here he's talking a little
- 1:34:10bit about kind of how that competition plays into what they
- 1:34:14do from the valuation standpoint.
- 1:34:16What is that emphasis that Coach Bry has on competition?
- 1:34:19What what can you kind of see from that, from these winter
- 1:34:22workouts and those hunger drills?
- 1:34:24Yeah, that's awesome, right. That's a fundamental for our
- 1:34:26program, you know, it's pretty neat, right?
- 1:34:29Every, every drill is competitive.
- 1:34:31So it when we're running that agility circuit or whatever
- 1:34:34we're doing, there's a match up, right.
- 1:34:36So they all have an individual match up and then there's
- 1:34:39individual group and and team competitions at the end.
- 1:34:42So you know put them in a mindset to compete.
- 1:34:45You know that's that's a big piece of it.
- 1:34:46You can it's not just when you hit the grass you got to have a
- 1:34:49mindset to win at all times and I think we're able to build that
- 1:34:52in our hunger drills and and phase one it's the mindset,
- 1:34:58right. We've been we've been talking
- 1:35:00about it all night. It's the mindset of competing
- 1:35:02and it's that whole thing. I think I feel like, I don't
- 1:35:06think he said it to us, but Prize said it before.
- 1:35:09You do not want the taste of loss, whether it be a tire pull
- 1:35:14and drill, a foot race, the spring game, playing cards
- 1:35:20together, playing a board game or getting on the field.
- 1:35:24And to me that's what to me it clicked.
- 1:35:27I think that telly you mentioned the Marshall game.
- 1:35:30I think what we saw happen after the Marshall game, I think it
- 1:35:34clicked. I think finally that taste just
- 1:35:36hit wrong because that day we should have won, should have won
- 1:35:41by a lot. And I'm sure it was probably
- 1:35:44what's that taste like. You outplayed them, you ran over
- 1:35:47top of them. They made a couple couple good
- 1:35:50ones. They made a couple good plays
- 1:35:53and they beat you. They took advantage of your
- 1:35:55mistakes, even though you played play to play ran over them
- 1:35:59pretty good. But they took advantage of the
- 1:36:02mistakes and they got in the end zone when it mattered you.
- 1:36:07You got to be competitive. Every Rep, every Rep matters.
- 1:36:12And that's what this is talking about with the hunger drills.
- 1:36:14Every Rep matters. That's what's talking about the
- 1:36:17competition. During winter workouts and at
- 1:36:19practice, every Rep matters. You got to be if you want to win
- 1:36:23a game, there's a whole lot of plays that it takes to add up to
- 1:36:26that. You can't be taking reps off.
- 1:36:29You can't be taking plays off or that might be the time when the
- 1:36:34team gets that upper hand on you.
- 1:36:36And it doesn't matter whether it's Marshall or whether it's
- 1:36:38Clemson or whether it's Miami, Whoever it is, on any given day,
- 1:36:42if you're not winning every Rep and you're you're letting plays
- 1:36:46go that you didn't give your best effort, bad it it can, it
- 1:36:50can go the wrong way. You got to get tired of losing.
- 1:36:54But you also this season, you got to handle what it feels like
- 1:36:59to have expectations on you too. You can't just because people
- 1:37:04are telling you that you're good, you just show up and think
- 1:37:08that that's going to be good enough.
- 1:37:11You still got to compete every Rep.
- 1:37:13Yup, got to go win it. You got to go beat these teams
- 1:37:16that you can't look at. Nothing like this is a big game.
- 1:37:23We the big game. You just got to go play you we
- 1:37:27the big game. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:37:30Dude, I'm gonna tell you this. I've talked to David Cutcliffe
- 1:37:33this this week, which was crazy. Like I work for a pest control
- 1:37:37company. I I do inside sales for a pest
- 1:37:40control company and I get a lead that I need to call one of our
- 1:37:44customers and that customer was David Cutcliffe.
- 1:37:48And I'm like David Cutcliffe. It ain't nobody in the world
- 1:37:52with the name. Hey man, it was a guy that
- 1:37:55coached Duke with the same name as you.
- 1:37:57He's like, yeah, that's me. So I sit there.
- 1:38:00And talk for like 30 minutes about Blacksburg and Frank being
- 1:38:05with because him and Frank's really good friends, his words
- 1:38:09and he talked about the atmosphere at Virginia Tech.
- 1:38:13He was like, I don't know how many games you get to go to.
- 1:38:15He was like, but it's nothing like going to Blacksburg.
- 1:38:18He was like I was so amped to play Frank every time we played
- 1:38:21because I wanted to win in that atmosphere we the big game like
- 1:38:26you going to get everybody's best so you got to go win.
- 1:38:29You can't worry about the expectations.
- 1:38:31You can't worry like we got to go win and this is a this is a
- 1:38:35good year to to to put it to the test man I'm again I'm I'm over
- 1:38:40the moon. I'm like I'm ready to start
- 1:38:41talking crazy if we win. Let me see.
- 1:38:44I don't even want to put a number on it yet I'm going to
- 1:38:47put a number if we get in the double if we.
- 1:38:49I have no tattoos, no piercings. If we if we win double digit
- 1:38:55games this year, I'm getting a tattoo.
- 1:38:58I don't know what it's going to be yet, but I'm going.
- 1:39:01To get a Sally, we get, we get batching tattoos.
- 1:39:03Oh gosh. Hey, we might let y'all pick.
- 1:39:07We might let, we might run a pole.
- 1:39:09I don't know what we're going to do, but I'm telling you right
- 1:39:11now, put what Thomas Thomas said, 15 and O bring it.
- 1:39:18Oh man, and we if we 15 and oh, everybody getting tattoos.
- 1:39:24Everybody getting tattooed, I get a tattoo if we 15 and oh,
- 1:39:30because I ain't got one on my body either.
- 1:39:32I got no, I'm, I'm, I'm super scared of needles.
- 1:39:36I hate needles. I I got.
- 1:39:37I got the one I I got. I got one in the in the oven,
- 1:39:41though I got 1 coming. Got one coming.
- 1:39:43All right. Well, well, Kylie's saying you
- 1:39:45will have two coming. By apparently I got 2 coming.
- 1:39:47Let's do it. You got 2 coming, we get double
- 1:39:49digit. Hey, I'm going up in there all.
- 1:39:52Right boys. So the the last clip we got here
- 1:39:55was with Kyron and and it was us talking a little bit.
- 1:40:00There you go. That's what y'all need to get
- 1:40:03right there. What?
- 1:40:06I missed it? What was it?
- 1:40:08It's always getting me in, trying to get us in trouble,
- 1:40:10man. Get.
- 1:40:10Your hokey tracks tramp stamps on your backs.
- 1:40:13You know I have mercy. That might be a cool not on the.
- 1:40:17Tram stamp that's that's not a that's that's that's that's a
- 1:40:20that's a wild 1st tattoo for somebody.
- 1:40:24Very wild 1st tattoo. I'm on, I'm on.
- 1:40:28I want to play this clip from Cairo and when we talked to him
- 1:40:31because it it just play it Brian and we can come back and talk
- 1:40:34about it because this, this, this hit.
- 1:40:38Yeah. We we appreciate you giving us
- 1:40:40the the feeling that we get like we're back when you know these
- 1:40:45guys in here were you know 17/18/1920.
- 1:40:48The the feeling of those teams that we had back then like
- 1:40:51watching you out there it it it's that very same feeling.
- 1:40:54So we appreciate that about you you.
- 1:40:56You know I. Keep it going.
- 1:40:58You took us back, man. You you really did what Y'all
- 1:41:00did. The back half of the season took
- 1:41:02these guys back. I'm 40, bronze 39, Tally's 38.
- 1:41:05So you do the math. Victoria.
- 1:41:08Tyrod. Ron.
- 1:41:10Randall, I mean you I'm sure you see those names all the time in
- 1:41:13in in the same of that it you took us back last year.
- 1:41:16And I mean, you know we went to games like when we were younger.
- 1:41:21I mean we were wild. We were crazy.
- 1:41:22We did stupid stuff. I mean let's let's you know
- 1:41:26there's things we've done. But but when you have that
- 1:41:28feeling and the brain comes back, it's like this is the way
- 1:41:30it was. This is the way it was.
- 1:41:32This is the way it should be. I listened to that kid four
- 1:41:37times today because Tally, the way you're feeling is the way it
- 1:41:42should be and it's the way it was every football season.
- 1:41:45It's the way it was every off season for pretty much our
- 1:41:48entire lives until these last about eight years.
- 1:41:52Because you remember. I mean think about it.
- 1:41:55I mean, and again I and I say it and I reiterate it, what they
- 1:41:59did in the back half of the season last year.
- 1:42:02That's the way it felt like when what what the Syracuse game,
- 1:42:07watching that game and just knocking the shit out of the
- 1:42:09quarterback and just at will scoring.
- 1:42:12We're going to score again. We're going to score again the
- 1:42:15UVA game. Just we aren't going to quit
- 1:42:19scoring on you. 50 burger baby. Yeah.
- 1:42:23Then we're going to run, run, run back on on special teams and
- 1:42:26celebrate on the hill. So I I I got to hit on this
- 1:42:30right quick. Just because Robbie put it on
- 1:42:32there. So you know what's crazy,
- 1:42:34though? 44 really was my that was my
- 1:42:37favorite number growing up. So even if you look at my if you
- 1:42:41look at my, my Twitter hunters, Taliban. 44.
- 1:42:44So my number was 44, but when I got to high school football and
- 1:42:48I was in 9th grade, the tight end that was ahead of me was 44.
- 1:42:53So they was like, oh, you got to take 47.
- 1:42:54So the road that I lived on, I lived off of Hwy. 47.
- 1:42:58So I just started rocking 47, but now I like the number 44.
- 1:43:04I just didn't like it on my cornerback.
- 1:43:07But when he hits All American status, I got to just shut up
- 1:43:10and let him do what he doing, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:43:12But when he has the kind of year he had last, he's like, OK,
- 1:43:15well, if you want to wear 44, wear whatever you want, man.
- 1:43:19Wear whatever number you want. Yeah.
- 1:43:24And I and I like I said I I love hearing that from Kyron like and
- 1:43:27and I love thinking about kind of where where we've come in the
- 1:43:31last couple years and especially in the back half of last year.
- 1:43:38You know it's not the constant feel of when's the other shoe
- 1:43:43going to drop right. I feel like every offseason for
- 1:43:46a good while. All right.
- 1:43:49Even if it got even if it was a good offseason, you you always
- 1:43:52had that dread like when's the shoe going to drop and it and it
- 1:43:55and it dropped just about every offseason, right.
- 1:43:57Like whether whether we got all the way to the the preseason
- 1:44:00then we get an SI article or you know, yeah we we we we worried
- 1:44:04about Turkey bacon and all sorts of stuff and I mean you know we
- 1:44:08can talk about the other stuff too that was a little you know
- 1:44:11more concerning than that. I mean it it's it's nice to have
- 1:44:17to to feel like your team is ran competently.
- 1:44:24And it's also, you know, like you said, the team has ran
- 1:44:27competently. And also it's great to have star
- 1:44:31power. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:44:32When I look back over us interviewing some of these kids,
- 1:44:36man, how you know, they come on and they're very professional,
- 1:44:40you know? But then when you look at, like
- 1:44:42Kyron when we're interviewing him, he's got all the makings to
- 1:44:45be a star, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:44:47Like, he knows how to speak to the public.
- 1:44:49He knows how to act. When he's in public, he looks
- 1:44:52the part. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:44:53He's just a phenomenal talent. It takes me back to those days
- 1:44:59when we was watching David Wilson, you know what I'm
- 1:45:03saying? It takes me back to the the days
- 1:45:05when we were watching David Wilson on ESPN and they'll
- 1:45:08follow him around driving this old school car and stuff like
- 1:45:11that. Like we ain't, we ain't been
- 1:45:13able to see stuff like that around Virginia Tech in a long
- 1:45:17time. For real, you know what I'm
- 1:45:18saying? Like, even when Gerard was there
- 1:45:20and he was doing his thing, like we didn't get to see a whole
- 1:45:23bunch of Gerard. We didn't get to see a lot of
- 1:45:25interviews with Gerard and stuff like that.
- 1:45:27Changing. That's because the door was
- 1:45:29closed on the program. Right, right.
- 1:45:31So. The the doors closed on a
- 1:45:34program where it was some of the most loyal fans in the country.
- 1:45:38And that door, December 2021, it was kicked back open.
- 1:45:45And and to the fans credit, we never stopped Nope banging at
- 1:45:48that door. No, it didn't.
- 1:45:50No, it didn't. And.
- 1:45:52Again, it's the feeling. It's the feeling.
- 1:45:56It's the feeling that's what you want.
- 1:45:58I do not know what else we have tonight, Brian, because I feel
- 1:46:02like I'm off. Is there anything else I missed?
- 1:46:05I think we got everything, man. That's, that's that's everything
- 1:46:09we got planned. Unless you see something pop up
- 1:46:11somewhere that we want to talk about, I don't mind.
- 1:46:13I don't mind taking another 5 or 10 minutes and and hashing out
- 1:46:17anything that's come up. Has some come up?
- 1:46:19Did you say that because you saw some?
- 1:46:20Or Oh no, I didn't see. I was asking you if you saw.
- 1:46:22Something I try but. I mean, we got, we got to put
- 1:46:26this in there because every time, you know, we talk about
- 1:46:28David Wilson, oh. Yeah.
- 1:46:30You gave that poor man PSPTSD tally talking about David
- 1:46:34Wilson. All he's got to see is David
- 1:46:38Wilson running by the sideline in high school.
- 1:46:41Not Nah. Played him 3 * 3 times, Robbie
- 1:46:44four times. He's like every time he went 200
- 1:46:47just. There he goes.
- 1:46:48He might catch him. All right.
- 1:46:50See you later. All right.
- 1:46:52Yeah, I do not see anything else, bro.
- 1:46:53The only thing I saw was I looked at the score to the the
- 1:46:56Celtics were down three with eight seconds left and they won
- 1:46:58by 6 in overtime. I don't know what happened
- 1:47:01there. I don't either.
- 1:47:03I hate the Celtics. I didn't want them to win, but
- 1:47:05it happened. Virginia Tech baseball lost.
- 1:47:07I seen that. Played a great Duke team,
- 1:47:10though. Duke's a baseball team, so.
- 1:47:12What was the final on that you were watching?
- 1:47:14That I think it was 11 to 811 to 811 to 7 one of those.
- 1:47:19Yeah, it's at some point you got to not allow eleven runs.
- 1:47:22Yeah, you can. You ain't winning any baseball
- 1:47:24games. Eleven runs.
- 1:47:28Not even Little League. Analysis.
- 1:47:32Don't allow eleven runs. Don't allow.
- 1:47:35In any form of baseball. Right.
- 1:47:37All right, well, boys, what a fun episode.
- 1:47:40Again, the road ahead is long and the future is bright.
- 1:47:45Here we talked about depth. We talked about depth about the
- 1:47:48team 16 months ago. BCP got deeper tally right here
- 1:47:54with us tonight. Sheldon.
- 1:47:56Sheldon probably in a cave doing some work.
- 1:47:59Ain't no telling what he's going to come back with, but he is
- 1:48:01going to be joining us definitely a few times over the
- 1:48:03summer. And you know, it's awesome, man,
- 1:48:08because again we said at the beginning, I'll say at the end,
- 1:48:11tally, y'all joining it did nothing to make his program
- 1:48:16better. Level up, baby.
- 1:48:18Level up. Yes, Sir.
- 1:48:19Yes, Sir. Man, it's been a fun ride.
- 1:48:21Been a fun ride. Only getting better, man, only
- 1:48:24getting better. Only getting better.
