- 1:23SPEAKER_02: So with no further ado, I will go ahead and have her introduce herself to the world.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: You can go ahead and tell the world your name.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Yes, I am Evelyn Herring, owner of Boucher Butter.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Oh, the skincare whipped uh shea butter with lovely and amazing fragrances for women and men.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and body scrubs.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: And I was gonna say, is that what you do just solely?
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Just um, or do you have another job as well?
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: Oh no, I have a nine to five.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: You do have a nine to five.
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: Okay, in this one.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: So how did you start this?
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: The skincare.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: The skincare came about.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Um, this is emotional for me, but the skincare came about um my aunt and my cousin, they're breast cancer survivors.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Um unfortunately, both just passed recently.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: My aunt in February and my cousin um July of last year.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: So they were kind of the motivation, uh, because learning about, you know, all of the aluminum and the toxins in our skincare, you know, I started to go natural uh with deodorant.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: And you gotta be careful, you guys, with that deodorant.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: You gotta detox your underarms because you don't want to be out there.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Are you serious?
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Funking the whole thing up.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: But the aluminum and all those things in our um, you know, like deodorants and stuff, uh, can be cancer causing.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: So I learned out of all of that stuff, so I kind of devied into skincare, you know, because all of the lotions and all of the things, you know, they have ingredients that you don't know how to pronounce, don't know what they are.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: So um that's how it all kind of began with the shea butter.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: I actually was using my shea butter two years before I even launched it.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: Are you serious?
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: So okay, and then you just said so the motivation, um, because we're gonna get back to you said you started it two years before prior.
- 3:18SPEAKER_02: But your family, so when you started it, did they have cancer and you just like basically let me use this or use this um skincare for you, or like how did that go?
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, you know, learning about what they were going through, they both were um, I think my cousin was at the tail end of her battle, and my aunt had already finished her battle.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Uh, they were very close in proximity to having breast cancer.
- 3:46SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: So um just was like curious, and the interesting thing about it is that their doctors weren't even telling them, you know, not to use.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: I was like, Do you guys know, you know, the deodorants have aluminum and that can be cancer constant?
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: And they was like, oh no, no, no, not really.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: And I was like, well, you know, change your deodorants, just trying to help out, you know, because I love them, you know.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: And then, you know, when the shea butter came along, you know, I was offering them to use that as well as an alternative.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: My aunt loved pink sugar.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Okay, and my cousin loved Jamaican fruit.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: So, because listen, y'all, we I know that certain things that they're putting in our um products could cause cancer.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: For some reason, I never thought deodorant.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: All of that stuff.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, deodorant as well.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, it actually, you know, our body is meant to perspire, and people don't like to perspire, but it's getting the toxins out, and that aluminum blocks all the toxins in.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: And that's when we apply it.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:50SPEAKER_02: Okay, this is information for me too, because I promise you I didn't know.
- 4:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: That's why I asked you.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: I'm like, wow, because I use all of the good smelling stuff, but those probably have heavy metals in it.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: So you guys be careful.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: Make sure y'all read those the back of the ingredients that we don't know how to pronounce.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: Because those is the chemicals.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: Yes, okay.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: And how long have you been in business for?
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Now it's this is my anniversary, as I say, month.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: Seven years, seven years in business.
- 5:21SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: That is good.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: And so seven years in business, but you said you started two years before.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: So back to that.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: So how did you just start it?
- 5:30SPEAKER_02: Like, what made you want to start working on Boucher?
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: I just was like, at one point, I'm just like, okay, um, at the time I was married, so my ex had a business, and I was just like, well, let me launch, you know, Boucher Butter, you know.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Um, well, it wasn't Boucher Butter.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: I came up with bougie butter and all of this and that, and then the the name came together, but you know, um, yeah, so yeah, and so I just started and it was abrupt.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: It wasn't even like I did all a lot of planning, like people think they I just started.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: I just um, you know, actually met someone um that was willing to do my logo.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: This was all in the month of April.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: Met someone to do my logo, um, you know, kind of, you know, came up with the naming.
- 6:27SPEAKER_04: Uh-huh.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, I remember sending out a list to my my close network, like, what y'all think about these names?
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, and getting my uh permit license and all the just the stuff, just that quick, and then launched a launch party.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Uh at the time, my friend Tonia, she had um a nail shop and uh Miss Glitter nail lounge, it was called Glitter?
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and she uh she was like, you can have the lunch party at my, you know, at your party, yeah, in your establishment.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: So just yeah, and they all just embraced it.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: My other friend, Mika Spoil Boutique, shout out.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: I'm still in her store, her boutique when I launched.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: She was like, Oh, yeah, you can place your um shea butter in uh the boutique.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: So yeah, yeah.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Those are my yeah, they helped me down.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, supportive.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: Because you said for seven years, and then it just started with an idea and you just executed.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: It was just me wanting to, you know, better options for my skin, which later on, two years down the line, I launched into a business.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: That is amazing.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, seven years.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: Out of all seven years, have there been any times where you kind of was like, uh, this is too much for me, or it's been just I'm you elevating more and more each year.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: It's been a steady growth.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, there are times it's like, man, you know, because I do work.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: I still work.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: So, you know, I still work, and you know, you gotta be out there, you know, meeting people, letting them, you know, experience it.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Because it's skincare, you can't really experience it on online.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: So what I did do from the beginning was came up with samples, which I give out free.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: I give out free samples, which I mail to people who's interested so they can try before they buy.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: Listen, y'all, this is what you need.
- 8:31SPEAKER_02: You're gonna get a free sample and it's gonna be good.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: Because I didn't fell in love with her.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: I'm telling you, shout out to the um, because when I met you, it was at the wealthiest women network event.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: And y'all, I promise you, her smells is going to stop.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: I was like, you know what?
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: When I seen it, I looked at it, I liked your whole setup.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: But I was like, you know, I'm gonna come back because you know, like it's just, I'm like, I'm gonna come back when I see it.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: But when I actually came back to smell it, yeah.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: And you come up with your own ingredients too, right?
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's just the shea butter and the essential oils for the fragrance.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Very minimum.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: And it smells amazing, you guys.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: And you got the sugar scrubs.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: Um, it's called a sugar scrub too, right?
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Well, it's it's salt, it's a salt scrub, but yes, yes, yes, yes, body scrub.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: And uh that came a little later, but yeah, just incorporated it, just, you know, and then I've got a lot of suggestions, people like do uh do some lotions.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, okay, yeah, okay, yeah.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: So there'll be more to come, but yeah.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 9:38SPEAKER_02: And then when you started, did you start your stuff at your own house or did you go to like a place and they taught you how to start?
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: No, um, my own home.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: And then later on, as it grew and got a larger base, I was like, you know what?
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: You know, I found someone to to do it.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, so now you can take out some of that work.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: It's not not so much on you to do.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: Cause now I do a lot of, I mean, it's the volume is a lot more.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: And I, you know, just with working, and then I also have another business, but we'll we won't mention that.
- 10:13SPEAKER_02: Okay, girl, this is a boss business woman, okay?
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I was like, somebody was like, Are you Jamaican?
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: I'm like, hey, come on now.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: Like, let me cook, right?
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: Okay, I delay the groove back, baby.
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: And then, okay, so when you partner with these people now that's making it, did you have to show them or they kind of know how to they were in the in the skincare business.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they were in the you gotta find someone that's kind of in that lane already.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: That does it, yeah.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: And then it helps you out a lot.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: A lot, yeah, yeah.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but I still make the body scrubs in-house to order.
- 10:54SPEAKER_02: And I was gonna say the glow line.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: I have a glow line.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the shimmer.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: The shimmer, yeah.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Ladies, for summer, even during the wintertime when you're doing an elegant event, going on a date, yeah.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Do those arms and that, you know, the chest area, you know, so it could just glisten and glow and smell good.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: And you be looking real sparkly, real nice, smell delicious, when you get ate, you know.
- 11:22SPEAKER_02: This is what she's gonna do to you.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: So I'm not just hyping y'all.
- 11:26SPEAKER_02: When you actually stop by any vendor event that she's at, or even if you ask for the sample, I promise you I'm not over-exaggerating.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: It's really that good.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: It's really good.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: Girl, you really are like for you to just have this vision and start from you know, just your family, and now it's getting so big.
- 11:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like I just want to give you your recognition and your flowers and your stuff is really amazing.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: And it's a black-owned job.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: Yes, baby.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: And what's the difference though?
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: Like, so if we had three people that sell the same stuff, why should they come together instead of the other people?
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Well, what people don't understand, a lot of people do body butter.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: Body butter is different from shea butter.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: Shea butter is um comes from a a nut from Ghana um or West Africa, but mainly mine is from Ghana.
- 12:30SPEAKER_00: Um and it it's come from the earth.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: A lot of uh other people do like cocoa butter, cut with cocoa butter, shea butter, mango butter.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: So it's not just shea butter.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: And then they cut it with a lot of oils, different oils, where mine is just just the whipped white shea butter, because there is a difference between uh the shea butter.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: There is one that's yellow.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: Most people know the yellow tinted one that has palm oil in it.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: Mine is just the raw white shea butter with the fragrances, essentially.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: And that's way more better for your skin.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: In your body.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: The palm oil is good too, but it's it's a little work, you know.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: People know that it is work to get it, you know, and that's why I whip whip mine.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: Yours be whipped too.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yes, yeah.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: So that's the difference.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: That's the difference, you know, and you won't look like you uh frying chicken, you know, with all that grease, because it gets a little oily.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: So mine is moisturizing, yet, you know, you got a nice little glow, but it's not greasy.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: It doesn't get all over your clothes or messy.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: So yeah, and that's a good thing.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: Because some oil, like Diddy, baby oil, will be left all over your clothes.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: We don't want no Diddy oil on our clothes, okay?
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: We just need to be able to throw our clothes back on and leave.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: Okay, girl.
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: And I was gonna ask you, was there any type of fear when you started the business?
- 13:59SPEAKER_02: Like any doubts, like, man, it's not gonna work, or what if I fail?
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: Was it any type of doubt or anything like that in your mind?
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: Or even if it wasn't, I don't think.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: I mean, I just think I don't know.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: I think because I wasn't, and maybe because I had a nine to five and I just wasn't doing it right off from just the entrepreneurship.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: Like some people just purely entrepreneurial, yeah, and that's it.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, maybe that's why, but I don't know, it was kind of a little frustrating because I I was thinking like, man, this is stuff is good.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: Like, I just wanted people to know that it's good, you know, like, or whatever, but no, no, I didn't really have anything like, oh, what if I fail?
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: What if it you know no self-doubt?
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: I can't remember, you know, feeling that way.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:50SPEAKER_02: But like if you know that your stuff is really good and it can help the people, you like it ain't no reason to doubt.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, let this do it speak for itself.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: You go.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was just a matter of how do I market it, how do I get it out there.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I'm just glad God gave me the thing.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: Free samples.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Just give them free samples because that way they'll be able to put it on and experience it for themselves, you know.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: Because when you put it on your pheromones, it smells different from, you know, smelling it on a drawer versus putting it on.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: Your skin.
- 15:23SPEAKER_02: And you thought of the free samples too, or somebody no, me.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: Just I just was thinking, like, well, give me, yeah, the free samples.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: Girl, you would be able to do it.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: Send them around the free samples, yeah.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: Because you know people love free stuff.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Yes, they do.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, and that just shows them that there's nothing behind it.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: I'm just letting you experience it and let it speak for itself.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: Because it's kind of like crack.
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: You giving us crack because you know we're gonna come back.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: You know what you're doing, right?
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: You're gonna come back, I promise you.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: You're gonna come back.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, for the shimmer, the salt, or the um butter.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 15:58SPEAKER_02: They're gonna come back.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: And then you're gonna be like, okay, well, let me try this one.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: Let me try that one because I have 13 fragrances for women, five for men.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: I'm thinking about, you know, expanding the line for men.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: The men are kind of getting into it.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: They yeah, they were on that creed lately.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: I'm like, okay, okay.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: I think I have got one too.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: A man, um, I forgot, no, it was Chanel.
- 16:19SPEAKER_02: Was it the Chanel for men?
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: Chanel blue for men, right?
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: And I ended up giving that to my kids' dad when we was on good talking terms.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: Now we're not, so you're not getting nothing else.
- 16:28SPEAKER_02: But he loved it.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:30SPEAKER_02: He loved it.
- 16:31SPEAKER_02: He was like, what is this?
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: And I told him, I was like, oh, Boucher Butter.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: Um, I met her at an event, and when I grabbed the extra one from him, I was like, I'll just get you one.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: Girl used it to where it's like it was nothing in there, okay?
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: And I know he wants another one, but you gotta get it yourself.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: So when did you just realize that this brand is actually taking off?
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: Like, girl, like this is not just a hobby, like this is actually getting bigger than what you thought.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: I think when uh during the pandemic, when um Master P was trying to help black businesses out, and I sent my package, and he picked my package and did a whole thing on Boucher Butter.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: Master P?
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: Yes, Master P got it and did a review, uh-huh, you know, and the whole thing on YouTube.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: And how can they find that?
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: Because I'm gonna look for that once we leave from here, girl.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you can go to the Boucher Butter my my handle on IG.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: I have it posted right there.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: I have it pinned.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go watch it.
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: Y'all need to take Master P Bowdy Bowdy, Rowdy Browdy.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: Yes, he's the ultimate businessman.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: Yes, ultimate businessman.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: And he picked you up.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he picked the, you know, I mailed it in and he reviewed it.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: And so, yeah.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: And from here it just starts skyrocketing.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it just got better and better.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: You know, uh Brayley Evans, she's from um, you know, she's an actress from Oakland.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: She also, you know, I I was on her live and everything.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: The family business.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: Family business on BT.
- 18:14SPEAKER_02: Family business on B E T.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna have to look her up too.
- 18:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: Y'all look her up.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: You sell into celebrities.
- 18:21unknown: Yeah.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: Is them the only celebrities, or it's more people.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: I seen you, um Marshawn Lynch mom.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: Yes, Marshawn Lynch mom.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: She loves it.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: Sunshine Lynch.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: Yes, she loves it.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: And she was just like, Yeah, I gotta turn my baby on to it.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, thank you.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: She is, yeah, yeah.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: Just that alone, you know, and just her sharing it with other people.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: I just really appreciate that when people, you know, love how it feels for them and then don't mind sharing it for others.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's just how it, you know, it helps, you know, bouche butter grow.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: I'm appreciative.
- 18:59unknown: Yeah.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: And it's actually helping the other people too.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: And I'm glad that you I asked the question, how did you start?
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: Because there's some people that's probably going through some type of scare.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: And they need the natural instead of all of that.
- 19:14SPEAKER_02: Because I didn't even know.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: Like I told you about the deodorant and all that.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, our skin.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: Our skin is our largest organ.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: I mean, look, you know, it covers all of our body, and look and what we put on isn't just as important as what we put into our body.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because once it's on our skin, it's soaking inside anyway.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: It makes sense.
- 19:34SPEAKER_02: That's crazy how they're killing everybody with the chemicals that they're putting in everything.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 19:41SPEAKER_02: That is crazy.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: And so, how do you come up with all of your fragrance?
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: Is this something you just thought of, or people give you requests?
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: Um, some people give me requests.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, one is called spoiled, um, after Mika's spoiled boutique.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: So, you know.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: And um the other ones are just, you know, fruity, just giving people options.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: Fruity, you know, fresh and clean, you know, the powder, and people love powder, powdery smells.
- 20:12SPEAKER_00: You know, it's that's fresh.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: Uh, mango, who doesn't love mango?
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: And the the bath and bodywork, cucumber melon, yeah.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: That fragrance.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: So it's just just the variety of just smells, you know, getting the different oils, smelling them, kind of filling them out.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: And then just messing with them with themselves.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: Okay, I love that because I'm like, so which one is your favorite?
- 20:37SPEAKER_02: Because everybody asked me that.
- 20:39SPEAKER_02: Y'all got so many people, because she be asking everybody.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: So why would I ask you?
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: Spelling on you now.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like right now, I have on Angel.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: Angel.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: Um, Angel, I have it on, you know, pink sugar is kind of one that I tend to, you know.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: Um, that's a fragrance that a lot of people know about pink sugar.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Not always.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: So um, I don't know.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: I like all of them.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: You know, the only thing I'm not a big floral because of my allergies.
- 21:09SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: But it does smell good.
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: Like my blossom, it has floral and it has a sweet after, you know, uh-huh fragrance to it.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: So yeah, you just, it just, I like them all.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: You know, that but that black woman, baby.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: So the black one, okay.
- 21:26SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: That black woman.
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: And look what you named it too, girl.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's an homage to us, of course, black women.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: And and the funny thing about it is normally fragrances don't mesh with everybody.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: But for some reason, so many black women, it smells good on them.
- 21:48SPEAKER_00: So, hey, it's named correctly.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: And I was gonna say, with the black woman, I actually see a lot of people um say that they love the black woman.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:58SPEAKER_02: I don't think I've tried that.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: I think I've tried the pure seduction in the other one, but we're gonna smell that one.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: We're gonna try that one too, girl.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: Black woman.
- 22:07SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 22:07SPEAKER_02: Like you said, all of them.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: We gotta get all 13.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: You gotta get all 13, y'all.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: All I'm telling you, we're gonna make you a millionaire.
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're gonna make you a billionaire.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: Yes, I'm with that.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: I agree.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: I approve that message.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: Billionaire.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: Yes, right.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: And then the least favorite though is just the floral because of the allergies.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: That's the only reason why.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so anybody with allergies probably just calm down with or just make sure you know what you're getting so you won't have allergic reactions.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just you know, and that's why you get the sample, you know, to make sure that what what it is, yeah.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: How you how you're gonna your body is gonna react to it.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: Have you ever had anybody um have any reactions to it?
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: Um, no, I think, yeah, like one person maybe out of this seven years.
- 22:59SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: But it's very mild, even for people with eczema.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: I have eczema.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: And um, well, I experience eczema.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: I don't have anything.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: Let me let me repeat, let me run that back.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: I experience eczema, but it's it's it's uh mild and getting better now.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: But yeah, it is very mild and anyone could use it.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: Even some people that said they've had sensitive skin for years and they still can use it.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: Even with fragrance.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: Okay, and I was gonna say it's actually supposed to help your skin kind of feel better, right?
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: Or it released, relieved the dryness.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, because it soaks in and it has a barrier that's there, you know, where it really, you know, it doesn't sit on top of your skin as some of the um lotions.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: It it really gets in there and it softens over time.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: It has vitamin A and E, and even has sunscreen protection, not to the point of the SPF, the higher SPFs, but it that is one of the qualities of it.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: So yeah, yeah.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: Okay, so y'all, she, I'm telling y'all, she's not just making y'all feel good, she's making you smell good and actually doing some healing to that skin.
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and those feet.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: Girl, those feet, a lot of people with those dry heels, I'm telling you, they they say they swear by it.
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: They put it on and put those socks on, and you good, you know, after using it over time.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: What would you do?
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: What would you do if you was at your stand and you seen somebody walking by with some dry ass heels?
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: Girl, I know you have because you be at all of these places.
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: I know you can't come here real quick.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: Right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: Let me let you try this real quick.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: Let me pull you aside.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: I got something for you.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I got something for you.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: You don't have to, you don't have to walk around like that.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: You really don't.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: Even the men, because some men say they don't like lotion.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they be coming over there with those ashy knuckles.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry, huh?
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: I'll be like, here you go, sir.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: So Ashy is a pet peeve, too, huh?
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: You like you ain't gotta walk around like that.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you don't.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: You really don't.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: They don't.
- 25:16SPEAKER_02: Oh my god, girl.
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: Okay, so this is some trivia question.
- 25:21SPEAKER_02: Okay, and it's crazy because you already have one of them, right?
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: So I'm like, she knows her stuff.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: You know, because I like to do a little trivia to make it a little fun, a little nice.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: And she actually named it, but we're gonna just go ahead and say it right now.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: And I was gonna ask you, what nut is the sheer?
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: What is the shea butter, right?
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: Shea butter.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: What nut is the shea butter from?
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: Yep, the shea nut from West Africa.
- 25:47SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: And I didn't know none of these answers.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: I didn't, girl.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: I had to go YouTube and chat GBT.
- 25:56SPEAKER_02: So she's a professional, because I don't know it, okay?
- 25:58SPEAKER_02: So this is all fun and game, okay?
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: Which continent does the shea butter originally come from?
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: No, Africa.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: There we go.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay, okay.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: Look y'all clock it.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: True or false?
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: Raw shea butter.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: What color is it normally?
- 26:17SPEAKER_02: Yellow or ivy?
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: Is it true or false?
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: Um, is it yellow and ivy?
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: Or what is it?
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's what it is.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: Wait, raw shea butter.
- 26:26SPEAKER_02: Is the natural color yellow or ivy?
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: That's what I was trying to say.
- 26:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, ivory.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: It's ivory.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I don't know why it was supposed to say true.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: And then I don't know how I wrote it, girl.
- 26:37SPEAKER_02: I made it conf uh made it confusing, but it's true that it's the ivy color in a natural yellow, because that's what you said earlier.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they put the palm oil in it to make it yellow.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: That's what gives it the yellow.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: And that's what all African people use.
- 26:51SPEAKER_02: Um, I actually seen them making it on a TV that a TV show I was just watching.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: And I was like, that's amazing.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: It's it's very intensive.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Um there's women in um the village that do it by hand.
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: And you know, they gotta break the nuts, you know, crack them and then boil them.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: And it's just a whole intensive process, you know.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: And that's why with it being organic, you should want to pay.
- 27:24SPEAKER_02: Because, like you said, when it's that organic, they're doing all of the hard work for us.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 27:29SPEAKER_02: And that's the only thing that Africans use.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: Because the show that I was saying, that's the all they use in their little village.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: They won't use nothing else.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:37SPEAKER_02: That's crazy.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: Alrighty.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: Let me see.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: Oh, here we go, right here.
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: What skin benefits is the shea butter known for?
- 27:48SPEAKER_02: A, whitening your skin, B, deep moisturizing, C, instant tanning, or D, remove freckles.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: Um, was it B, instant moisturizer?
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: Yes, girl, deep moisturizer.
- 28:03SPEAKER_02: Yes, y'all.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: That's what the shea butter is gonna do, is all that ashiness is gonna disappear.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: And girl, clock it, okay.
- 28:10SPEAKER_02: This is why I'm letting people know because you know her business.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: And the funny thing about it is I've been saying some of the stuff before you ask.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: That's what I just said.
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: That's what I was like, I was doing the trivia and she answering her vibes and didn't even want to say nothing.
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: Because I want people to know that this is real.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this is not just something that we playing around with.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: She's actually fixing us and healing us and making us smell good.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: I am.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: I am.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: That is the bigger, bigger picture.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: Right there.
- 28:43SPEAKER_02: That really is.
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:45SPEAKER_02: And having people live a longer life and smell good doing it.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: Girl.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: I know you be like, I'm a bad mamma jamma.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: I know you do, girl.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: You better if you Yeah, I I'm I'm I'm proud of myself.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: I'm just like, wow, you know, with the seven years coming, I'm like, ooh.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: You know, because it, you know, some people just get weary and tired, you know.
- 29:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: I can understand.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: But then if you don't give up on yourself out of that one moment, it'll just take off.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: Take off, yeah.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:19SPEAKER_02: That's what I like about it.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: I'm like, because we don't know how long it may take, but if you just don't give up and stay consistent, I think sooner or later it will work out.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: And you seven years in, girl.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: 9, 10, 11, and 12.
- 29:36SPEAKER_01: Right, right, right.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: Y'all gonna be seeing me out there on the magazine.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: And on the social media, it's gonna, it's, you know, it's gonna, yeah, the Lord got me.
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: You're gonna be inside of um, what's that called?
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: Um, Sephora and all of them places.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: Hello?
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: Because they sell that type of stuff, right?
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: But yours is neutral.
- 29:55SPEAKER_02: Yes, okay.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: Speak it, speak it.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: We're gonna do it.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna keep speaking.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: We're gonna come back to this podcast.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: I'm like, Kim.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: Hello.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: Period.
- 30:06SPEAKER_02: She's in every business that I told you she was gonna be in in the buildings.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: Y'all are knowing her worldwide.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: I because I love it.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: Yes, I really do.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: And the shea butter, is it rich in what loving vitamins?
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: Because you said it earlier, too.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: What vitamins do the shea butter have for our skin?
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, vitamin A, vitamin E.
- 30:28SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: I think it's yeah.
- 30:31SPEAKER_02: That's the one, yep.
- 30:32SPEAKER_02: And it says also contain a little F.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: F.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say F, but I was like, You was there.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you was there.
- 30:39SPEAKER_02: You said it was one more.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: It was.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: That's why I said, let me help my sister out.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: Because she on she on track.
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: Don't ever say she was wrong.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: She wasn't.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 30:50SPEAKER_02: And last question for the trivia because you aced it.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: How long has Shea Butter been around?
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: Has it been around for A?

- 31:48SPEAKER_00: I've I actually had more people rally around me to push that out of my business.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: So I'm blessed in that way.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: That is.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: Because it'd be some people that'd be like, oh well, she's starting a business and they will want to start it.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: You get what I'm saying?
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: But that's good that your friends and the people around you is like, nah, we're gonna get this out.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: And it's such a deep meaning behind it too.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 32:10SPEAKER_03: That's why it's a blessing too.
- 32:16SPEAKER_03: And when did this um your bouche butter?
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: When did it really just start taking off?
- 32:22SPEAKER_02: Was it the first year you started selling it?
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: Or maybe the third year?
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: I would have to say it wouldn't the first year.
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: It definitely wasn't the first year.
- 32:35SPEAKER_00: Um I'll say about the third in the third year.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: Third year?
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:42SPEAKER_03: That's when you just started.
- 32:44SPEAKER_00: So we're seeing more growth, yeah.
- 32:46SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 32:47SPEAKER_02: And with that first and second year, that didn't scare you either because you knew it was coming, huh?
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: I just, you know, just keep building, keep trying to put the word out.
- 32:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: And then you have we have the pandemic in the middle of that.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: Mind you, everybody was in the house, you know, so that kind of, you know, you couldn't go out and and do the events and all of that, you know, for a couple of years too.
- 33:10SPEAKER_02: So And that's when you really just start making all of it is in the house.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yep, yep.
- 33:15SPEAKER_02: That's a great thing.
- 33:16SPEAKER_02: So instead of sitting in the house not doing anything, you was working on the whole business plan.
- 33:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: That's that's that's what you do.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: I was having fun too, but yeah.
- 33:27SPEAKER_02: Girl, look, you didn't get no PPP loan, did you?
- 33:30SPEAKER_02: No.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: Then people was getting all of the people that didn't deserve it, they got it.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:37SPEAKER_02: And the people who has a business, we didn't even apply for it and knew how to apply for it.
- 33:42SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 33:43SPEAKER_02: Well, you know how that is.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: You'll find the information out.
- 33:46SPEAKER_02: They show when the heck will, but that's a good thing that you, like I say, during 2019, instead of just sitting in the house and being like, you know what, I can't wait to get back to work.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: You was just like, I'm gonna start my own.
- 34:01SPEAKER_02: Like, I'm gonna do my own thing.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that was right on the heels before the pandemic.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: Like, I didn't even get a good year in in the pandemic, boom.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: Oh, so yeah, because it was like April of 2019.
- 34:14SPEAKER_00: So by March of 2020, we were shut down.
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 34:19SPEAKER_02: Because couldn't nobody leave out the house and do anything, really.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and everybody was trying to figure out what was going on.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: You know, are we gonna be alive or what?
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: Was you scared doing um all of that COVID stuff, or did you have anybody affected during COVID?
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: Um, no, not.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: I mean, some some relatives got it, but they, you know, overcame.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they survived, but yeah, it was just just scary.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: Just a lot going on, just period.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: You know, not knowing.
- 34:48SPEAKER_00: And then, you know, with them saying for people that do work, how you had to get the vaccine and they didn't even know what COVID was, you know, just all of that whole thing.
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: How do you do on a vaccine and you don't even really understand COVID?
- 35:01SPEAKER_00: And yeah, yeah, so ways to get us sick more.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so yeah, because you know, that's how when I lost my mom during COVID.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, you guys, that's for the people who don't know, that's how um we lost our mom during COVID.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: When everything started happening, yeah, we didn't know what it was.

- 35:21SPEAKER_02: We thought everything was just normal code until they start breaking news that uh COVID, COVID-19.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: So yeah, that's a good thing you started your business.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: I know, you see, but things had to happen.
- 35:36SPEAKER_02: Um, I miss my mom.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: I wish she didn't have to leave, but like I said, things had to happen because with her passing away, it made me start this.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I appreciate it.
- 35:49SPEAKER_02: I appreciate it.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: It made me start this because I was so mad and I was just devastated.
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, I know people feel how I'm feeling.
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: I know people got stories to tell.
- 35:59SPEAKER_02: And just with your story, like a lot of people probably don't know, Boucher Butter started from you trying to heal your family members.
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.

- 36:10unknown: Yeah.
- 36:11SPEAKER_02: That's good.
- 36:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: All right.
- 36:14SPEAKER_02: And how do you hear about all of your events?
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: Because I see you at all of the events, like um, what is it, Black Joy Parade?
- 36:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: You said something about Lake Fest too.
- 36:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: Like, how do you be hearing about your events?
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: Um, sometimes Instagram, other people that, you know, vend the events, they'll let me know.
- 36:35SPEAKER_00: Um, some people give me the information while I'm at another event.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: Say, hey, we we're having this event come up.

- 45:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: Um what I can say is a lot of people get their stuff taken away.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: You gotta protect your boucher button.
- 45:42SPEAKER_00: You know, you have it in your your bathroom, letting people in your bathroom, they digging in it and and taking it.
- 45:48SPEAKER_00: I've heard so many stories about that too.
- 45:50SPEAKER_00: Like they've been using my stuff or oh yeah, somebody took my you gotta be careful.
- 45:56SPEAKER_00: Girl, they could steal it.
- 45:58SPEAKER_00: I would.
- 46:00SPEAKER_00: I just don't understand.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 46:03SPEAKER_02: I I know, but listen, they probably can't get to you, and it's the smell, it's the way you feel, it's the everything.
- 46:11SPEAKER_02: And if you can't get to you, girl, and that person got it, that's messed up, but they're gonna get it.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: I told you what you got.
- 46:21SPEAKER_02: I told you what you got.
- 46:22SPEAKER_02: Y'all don't want to listen to me until y'all try to try stuff.
- 46:24SPEAKER_02: Then y'all gonna say Cam wasn't lying.
- 46:26SPEAKER_02: She's selling us crack.
- 46:28SPEAKER_02: I already know what it is because it's good for you, and we like it, and I love it.
- 46:32SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 46:32SPEAKER_02: I'm telling you, I do.
- 46:34SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 46:35SPEAKER_02: And look that listen, y'all.

- 46:56SPEAKER_02: My little movie sponsor the episode, you feel me?
- 47:00SPEAKER_02: I make a do memo, yes, baby.
- 47:05SPEAKER_02: And you can eat it.
- 47:06SPEAKER_02: Is almonds a hook?
- 47:07SPEAKER_02: I hope you're not allergic to almonds.
- 47:09SPEAKER_02: No, I'm not.
- 47:10SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 47:12SPEAKER_00: You almost learn something new every day, huh?
- 47:18SPEAKER_02: Every day, okay?
- 47:20SPEAKER_02: Because I like, I love doing this, uh-huh.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: But I can see myself being on the wild side too, having a game show where it's adults talking.
- 47:29SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 47:29SPEAKER_02: And I I like, I like it.
- 47:31SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: I like it.
- 47:33SPEAKER_02: Believe it or not, because you know what?
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: We work so much.
- 47:36SPEAKER_02: Sometimes it's okay for us to go have a little playtime.
- 47:39SPEAKER_00: Yes, definitely playtime.
- 47:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:42SPEAKER_02: What do you do on your free time?
- 47:43SPEAKER_02: Because you got three or four jobs.
- 47:45SPEAKER_02: Do you have a rest time where you just relax?
- 47:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I have, you know, my friends, we hang out, we do, you know, birthday parties, this party over here.

- 48:13SPEAKER_04: You know.
- 48:14SPEAKER_00: Um, just trying to brace myself.
- 48:16SPEAKER_00: Like for June, I know it's gonna be back to back to back to back because that's a just like February, that's a you know, hefty month for events for, you know, black owned businesses.
- 48:27SPEAKER_00: So yeah, just you know, doing that balance, like making sure I'm getting my rest, making sure I'm doing things that I like to do, self-care and all of that.
- 48:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:38SPEAKER_02: Cause certain months are slower than others.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: Others, yeah.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 48:41SPEAKER_02: So with the slow months, it's kind of okay, I can figure out the next move.
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 48:45SPEAKER_02: But then when you got them black history in Juneteenth months, you want to go because you on demand.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: Right.

- 49:30SPEAKER_00: She's like, I'm in your booth.
- 49:32SPEAKER_00: She was like, girl, but why everybody was asking, where's every?
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 49:36SPEAKER_00: I think they're used to seeing me, you know, there.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: So, but yeah, yeah.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: I know I am.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they used to seeing my face.
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: And I appreciate that.
- 49:45SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you guys.
- 49:46SPEAKER_00: I don't want to see nobody else but you.
- 49:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: But I mean, as I grow, you know, me to team.
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it may not be me.
- 49:53SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 49:55SPEAKER_02: But it's something about when you come, you just you're so lively and you like, no, try it.
- 50:00SPEAKER_02: I want you to try it.
- 50:02SPEAKER_02: That's what I like about it.
- 50:03SPEAKER_00: And I love when people are like, oh, I got so much shea butter.
- 50:05SPEAKER_00: I just bought some shea butter.
- 50:07SPEAKER_00: I'm like, you ain't got this shea butter.
- 50:08SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 50:09SPEAKER_00: And a lot of times they'll buy.
- 50:10SPEAKER_00: And I'm gonna come back.
- 50:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 50:13SPEAKER_02: Girl, you was a bad mamma Jemma.

- 50:28SPEAKER_02: Because I could see this business in the next five or ten years literally being somewhere.
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: I told you, past um Sephora.
- 50:34SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be big, it's gonna be large.
- 50:36SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 50:37SPEAKER_02: Um, it's just that the other companies probably wouldn't want you to come around because they know that you're natural.
- 50:43SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 50:45SPEAKER_02: The real world is coming back, and this is what we need.
- 50:48SPEAKER_02: We need natural stuff, and I think that's killing us.
- 50:50SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 50:52SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 50:53SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 50:54SPEAKER_02: And I'm happy that you be at the event giving out the free samples.
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: Cause like you said, that's how people are able to come back and say, you know what?
- 51:01SPEAKER_02: This is what I need.
- 51:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: I need this.

- 53:09SPEAKER_02: And we're getting close to the end.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: But I was gonna ask you, what advice would you give anybody that's thinking about starting a skincare business?
- 53:18SPEAKER_02: Like, what advice would you give them when they're just starting off?
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: Um, make sure you have all of your ducks in a row, you know.
- 53:27SPEAKER_00: Make sure you think about whether you want an LLC.
- 53:31SPEAKER_00: Uh, also make sure that you're setting up a business bank account to um have everything separate.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: Um, make sure you have your your um permits.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: You know, if you're planning to do Oakland events or any other city events, make sure you have the business license for that.
- 53:52SPEAKER_02: Um And that's all through the city, huh?
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 53:55SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, just do your due diligence of pre-planning a little bit before you actually step out there.
- 54:05SPEAKER_00: You know.
- 54:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's gonna be like what's your packaging ideal, how you wanna package, um where you wanna get your um materials, your supplies from.
- 54:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 54:19SPEAKER_00: Um, just doing all the research ahead of time.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's it's a lot.
- 54:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a lot that goes into it.
- 54:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:30SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 54:31SPEAKER_03: And I was gonna ask you this last question.
- 54:37SPEAKER_03: What's next for your brand?
- 54:40SPEAKER_03: What what's next for the brand?
- 54:43SPEAKER_00: Um, what's next?
- 54:45SPEAKER_00: To maybe expand to different products, like, you know, uh oil that you can spray on when you get out the shower.
- 54:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 54:53SPEAKER_00: Um maybe lotions and maybe have somebody do soap, but I won't be the one making it.
- 55:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:02SPEAKER_00: Maybe a soap, so just a full kind of bath kind of kit.
- 55:08SPEAKER_00: That's everything.
- 55:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:10SPEAKER_00: Cause I have the body scrub already, the shea butter, then like an oil, yeah.
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, a soap.
- 55:16SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 55:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:17SPEAKER_00: Or a lotion of, yeah.
- 55:19SPEAKER_02: That's a one-stop shop, seriously.
- 55:21unknown: Yeah.
- 55:22SPEAKER_02: And then sooner or later, look, I was about to say, shoot, we can go to shampoo and conditioner.
- 55:26SPEAKER_02: Look, I'm doing too much.
- 55:27SPEAKER_02: I'm doing too much, but um, it smells so good, you can do the whole thing, like you said.
- 55:31SPEAKER_02: It can be the everything.
- 55:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, you can actually use the boucher butter now on your hair, just a little bit.
- 55:37SPEAKER_00: And while it's wet, you know, moisturize it.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: It's a natural moisturizer.
- 55:41SPEAKER_00: So I, you know, amend for the beard, definitely condition that beer, make it soft, listen, you know, all of that.
- 55:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I didn't even know that.
- 55:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, because duh is butter, so it's hard to make it moisturized anyway.
- 55:54SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 55:54SPEAKER_02: So you can use that in your hair.
- 55:56SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 55:56SPEAKER_02: Okay, look at the guys with y'all little, okay.
- 56:00SPEAKER_02: Okay, girl.
- 56:01SPEAKER_02: You all you beer the beer.
- 56:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:04SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 56:04SPEAKER_02: Y'all be looking good.
- 56:05SPEAKER_02: Marswell smells good.
- 56:07SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 56:08SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 56:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 56:10SPEAKER_02: And do you have anything that you would like to say to anybody or just any words of wisdom, any advice, or any shout out.
- 56:20SPEAKER_00: It's whatever you want to do.
- 56:22SPEAKER_00: Just believe in yourself.
- 56:24SPEAKER_00: You know, sometimes not everybody can see the vision, not everybody understands.
- 56:28SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you got to be quiet and keep things to yourself, you know, uh, and move in silence.
- 56:35SPEAKER_00: And it's okay, you know, that's okay.
- 56:38SPEAKER_00: Uh, it's also okay if you don't get the family support, you know, because there'll be people that will support outside of the family unit.
- 56:46SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, just keep on pushing and, you know, one step at a time, you know.
- 56:52SPEAKER_00: That's what a time.
- 56:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: And I appreciate everybody that has supported me and that will support me.
- 56:59SPEAKER_00: I really don't take it lightly.
- 57:01SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 57:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 57:02SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 57:03SPEAKER_02: You just awesome.
- 57:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 57:05SPEAKER_02: I appreciate you, Cam.
- 57:07SPEAKER_02: I really do.
- 57:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I'm telling you guys, this right here is um it's more than like I say, just the smell.
- 57:15SPEAKER_02: This is from pain of purpose.
- 57:17SPEAKER_02: This podcast is letting people know that it's a journey and it's a story.
- 57:21SPEAKER_02: And like she said, if you don't give up on yourself, it's so possible.
- 57:27SPEAKER_02: It's so possible.
- 57:28SPEAKER_02: Nothing is impossible.
- 57:29SPEAKER_02: You just gotta really believe in yourself and just keep doing it.
- 57:33SPEAKER_02: And you never know what's gonna be the next move.
- 57:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you just can't give up.
- 57:37SPEAKER_02: That's why you, that's why you here, because you never gave up.
- 57:40SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 57:41SPEAKER_02: And girl, you got your support system with you.
- 57:44SPEAKER_02: Yes, I do.
- 57:46SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 57:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so if you guys are thinking about starting your business, like she said, don't think too much about it.
- 57:55SPEAKER_02: Believe in yourself, have faith, and know that what you're doing is gonna change lives.
- 58:01SPEAKER_02: So don't forget, your pain has purpose and your purpose has power.
- 58:07SPEAKER_02: And I'll see y'all next time.
