- 0:22Today we read Our House.
- 0:26Story by Gil Muntin Illustrated by
- 0:31Tim Oachbulb Our house
- 0:35isn't much to look at I doubt if
- 0:38you'd bother to stop next to
- 0:41it If you went along Mount
- 0:44Street That's our street Not that anyone much goes along Mount Street It's that
- 0:52kind of street Our house is sort of pink with a red door and a little garden all around it.
- 1:02I can't begin to count the weeds in the garden.
- 1:07Bounder, Grandad's greyhound, is always digging up the ground looking for his bouncy ball.
- 1:19We've got bedrooms, one for Mum, one for Grandad and Bounder, one for me and Carl.
- 1:29Carl plays his CDs for hours, so loud but ouch.
- 1:36My head starts to pound. Then Mum shouts up the stairs and says, stop that!
- 1:42She can get a bit grouchy, our Mum. Most days we have our dinner on the couch watching TV,
- 1:52Last week, Boundo found a bit of egg sandwich next to Grandad's chair.
- 2:00He pounced on it and devoured it at top speed.
- 2:10We've just got one small bathroom, so when Boundo's having his bath,
- 2:16You can forget about going to the loo or washing your hands for about ten hours.
- 2:25Grandad gets shampoo and dog hairs all over the floor and guess who gets to mop it up?
- 2:35Carl, I'm in bed as I'm telling you all this. I was just thinking,
- 2:42it doesn't sound much, our house, but it's not that bad.
- 2:48Tonight mum sent me to the corner shop to get some flour and I got a pound for sweets.
- 2:57They were so good, I stuffed about six into my mouth.
- 3:01When I got back, Bounder stuck his snout into my hand and started to lick my arm.
- 3:14They're fantastic dogs, Rayhounds, and so fast.
- 3:21Bounder can run about 60 kilometres an hour.
- 3:26And Carl and I went to the Southways Park to have a kickabout in the playground.
- 3:35He's a knockout footballer, Carl.
- 3:39He plays for our school. I'm getting proud of him.
- 3:43And when I went to bed, Randa chatted to me as I brushed my teeth.
- 3:51Then he said, was I too old for a story?
- 3:58I said, no, I wasn't. Our house is too small, full of shouting,
- 4:05a bit of a mess, well, some days.
- 4:07But it's never boring. Our house is, well, it's all right. The end.
- 4:15Thank you for listening. The book we are reading is Greyhounds,
- 4:21text written by Gillam Muntin and illustrated by John Davis.
- 4:27Greyhounds were first kept as hunting dogs.
- 4:32They are the fastest breed of dog and can run at speeds of about 65 kilometres an hour.
- 4:43That's fast as a car. Greyhounds are
- 4:46good looking dogs A greyhound is
- 4:49tall and still With a long narrow
- 4:53snout And long legs It has an arched neck And a deep chest It has a short smooth
- 5:02hair A greyhound will give birth To between 1 and 12 pups.
- 5:12Pups will grow fast and will grow to be about 69 to 76 centimetres tall.
- 5:25They will live to be between 9 and 15.
- 5:29A greyhound is a good pet. You can get a pup and you can adopt a dog greyhound
- 5:37that has been a racing dog.
- 5:39You will need a lot of cash for Teddy Green Puff.
- 5:48Greyhounds are sweet dogs, but they can be timid.
- 5:52They do not bark much. They are not always good with very small children.
- 6:00As small children run about and shout.
- 6:04Greyhounds can run fast, but they sleep a lot too.
- 6:09Feed your adult greyhound two mugs of dog food a day.
- 6:14Look after your dog's mouth by brushing its teeth.
- 6:20Grill your dog with a brush every week.
- 6:25You do not need a big garden for your greyhound or small yard will do.
- 6:32Do not let your greyhound run free when it's out and about Or it may run off
- 6:39to catch rabbits Your dog won't need a jacket on chilly days Thank you for listening and do not...
