Speaker 2: Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
• 0:11
Speaker 3: Okay, everyone, welcome back to Dirty Rush. And today we're
• 0:15
Speaker 3: talking to some anonymous sorority girls that we have here.
• 0:20
Speaker 3: Would anyone like to say their actual name or do
• 0:23
Speaker 3: we want to keep it anonymous.
• 0:25
Speaker 4: I'll say my name.
• 0:26
  Speaker 2: I'm Kiddy.
• 0:29
Speaker 5: Oh, I'm gonna go with.
• 0:32
  Speaker 3: No.
• 0:32
  Speaker 5: I'm the producer.
• 0:34
Speaker 2: She's so I think I'll say my name.
• 0:39
  Speaker 4: I'm Lauren, I'm Gracie.
• 0:43
Speaker 6: I can say a fake name.
• 0:48
Speaker 2: We're gonna be like no, and then I'd be like, Okay,
• 0:53
  Speaker 2: explain why.
• 0:54
Speaker 5: Here's why we're being so mysterious.
• 0:56
Speaker 3: Okay, So we are gonna be talking about some myths
• 0:59
Speaker 3: and like all the tea around sororities and being like
• 1:02
Speaker 3: actually real with all of you. And so some people
• 1:07
Speaker 3: are saying anonymous just because they got a lot to say.
• 1:13
Speaker 7: It's very interesting because even like thirty years later, I
• 1:16
Speaker 7: still always want to protect my sorority. Yeah, you definitely
• 1:19
Speaker 7: feel that. In my in my school, I'm always like
• 1:22
Speaker 7: better not say no.
• 1:24
  Speaker 2: For sure.
• 1:24
Speaker 3: It is I feel like it's such a special thing,
• 1:27
Speaker 3: like sororities can they can get like bad people can
• 1:30
Speaker 3: have bad ideas about them. But also like it was
• 1:32
Speaker 3: such a great thing for me and such a good
• 1:33
Speaker 3: time in my life, and like even the crazy stories,
• 1:36
Speaker 3: like I love them.
• 1:37
Speaker 2: It just like it makes college that much more memorable.
• 1:40
Speaker 5: We had an interesting question when we were preparing.
• 1:42
Speaker 7: Okay, so there's six of us here, would anyone say
• 1:46
  Speaker 7: they're sororities?
• 1:46
  Speaker 5: Password publicly? I wouldn't.
• 1:50
  Speaker 4: Wait what password?
• 1:51
  Speaker 2: I didn't have a password?
• 1:53
Speaker 5: Mean, you don't have a password, the secret word? You
• 1:57
  Speaker 5: don't have a secret password?
• 1:59
Speaker 4: No for what, like to get in.
• 2:01
Speaker 5: The door, to get in this chapter room door.
• 2:05
  Speaker 2: Oh, and like.
• 2:08
Speaker 8: We had Greek names, so like everyone was assigned a
• 2:11
Speaker 8: Greek name and you had to say that when you
• 2:13
Speaker 8: got into chapter and that's how you like got in
• 2:16
  Speaker 8: the door.
• 2:16
  Speaker 4: A handshake.
• 2:17
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I'll my Greek name.
• 2:21
Speaker 2: I just put my fingerprint and then I walked through
• 2:23
  Speaker 2: the door.
• 2:23
Speaker 7: Your finger the chapter room door. You had to put
• 2:26
Speaker 7: your fingerprint in the chapter room door.
• 2:28
Speaker 2: Well, our chapter room was our fro.
• 2:30
Speaker 7: It was like, so two of us, who will remain nameless,
• 2:34
Speaker 7: are in the same sorority here, and we will say
• 2:37
Speaker 7: the password to each other.
• 2:39
Speaker 5: And give each other the handshake. But we wouldn't say
• 2:41
  Speaker 5: it to.
• 2:41
Speaker 2: You guys, like you wouldn't tell me when we're off air.
• 2:44
Speaker 7: No, that's kind, but I would say it to the
• 2:48
Speaker 7: other person that was like, I get that.
• 2:51
Speaker 4: If I had one, I would have to keep it sacred.
• 2:54
  Speaker 4: I get it.
• 2:55
  Speaker 5: I don't really doesn't have one.
• 2:57
Speaker 4: I think because technology.
• 3:01
Speaker 2: Some times have changed, clearly changed.
• 3:05
Speaker 5: Okay, Daisy hit us with the more questions.
• 3:07
Speaker 2: Okay, well here we go.
• 3:09
Speaker 3: So I know we've talked a lot in like past
• 3:11
Speaker 3: episodes about how it's expensive to be in a sorority.
• 3:14
Speaker 3: Do you guys think sororities are paid friends?
• 3:18
Speaker 7: Oh my gosh, wait, say that again so I can
• 3:20
Speaker 7: really take that in. You're paying to have friends.
• 3:22
Speaker 3: Do you think sorority in a sorority or paying to
• 3:25
  Speaker 3: have friends?
• 3:26
  Speaker 5: No?
• 3:26
Speaker 8: No, what an interesting take. I wouldn't say so either.
• 3:30
Speaker 8: You're paying for the full experience. You have formals, all
• 3:33
Speaker 8: these events, and it's like, I don't know.
• 3:37
Speaker 5: My sorority was paying to live there and have food.
• 3:39
Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, payduce to live in the house. I think
• 3:42
Speaker 8: it goes so far beyond having friends. I don't think
• 3:45
  Speaker 8: that's the reason you're paying.
• 3:46
  Speaker 4: I wouldn't say it.
• 3:47
Speaker 6: I think for me, like my freshman year at least,
• 3:49
Speaker 6: I wanted to find a community, and so I felt
• 3:51
Speaker 6: like sure, paying for my friends was like an.
• 3:53
Speaker 2: Easy way to do that.
• 3:54
Speaker 6: But also like living in the house too, like our
• 3:58
Speaker 6: rent in the house is cheaper than any rent in
• 4:01
Speaker 6: my college town. That is, I was like financially the
• 4:04
  Speaker 6: smarter decision.
• 4:05
Speaker 8: To make I feel like so many people have that
• 4:08
Speaker 8: have said that same thing.
• 4:09
Speaker 2: It's cheaper to live in how.
• 4:11
Speaker 3: Which was yours because you were at Ole miss which
• 4:14
Speaker 3: is like, yeah, school.
• 4:15
Speaker 1: I don't exactly remember, be honest, my parents paid for it,
• 4:19
Speaker 1: but so like pre so are Like I said in
• 4:25
Speaker 1: the other episode, our house flooded my freshman year.
• 4:29
Speaker 4: So our old house, the dudes were very like really low.
• 4:33
Speaker 4: I think they were like nineteen hundred.
• 4:35
Speaker 1: But then and that was three meals a day, and
• 4:38
Speaker 1: you used the house like at all hours, like you
• 4:41
Speaker 1: could have it at all.
• 4:42
  Speaker 4: We weren't living.
• 4:42
Speaker 2: There, but to be you could to be.
• 4:44
Speaker 1: Fed three times a day, which was way cheaper than
• 4:47
Speaker 1: the meal plans that you paid for sure anyway, but
• 4:49
Speaker 1: then once we got the new house, I'm pretty sure
• 4:51
Speaker 1: it was like in the three thousands per semester.
• 4:54
Speaker 2: Like if you lived in or was that no, just
• 4:57
  Speaker 2: really cheap?
• 4:58
Speaker 4: Yeah, just to like, yeah, okay, good, I'm glad.
• 5:00
  Speaker 2: I'm not.
• 5:01
Speaker 5: I thought that was where we're gonna live for one
• 5:03
Speaker 5: thousand dollars a month.
• 5:05
Speaker 1: I think it was like four hundred dollars a month
• 5:07
Speaker 1: to live at the house, no bills. It was just
• 5:10
Speaker 1: like four hundred dollars spot.
• 5:11
Speaker 2: And then there's three grand like on top of that.
• 5:13
Speaker 3: Yeah okay, yeah, so it makes more sense to live
• 5:15
Speaker 3: in Yeah, okay. This kind of leads into our next question.
• 5:18
Speaker 3: So are you still friends with all your sisters everyone?
• 5:22
  Speaker 2: Yes?
• 5:23
Speaker 7: Yes, And I'm fifty over fifty years old, and I
• 5:26
Speaker 7: would say, right now, I could call twenty five people
• 5:30
  Speaker 7: in ten minutes.
• 5:32
  Speaker 2: That's amazing. I'm different. I'm not. You're not okay.
• 5:36
Speaker 9: Yeah, I have like two maybe super close friends for
• 5:40
Speaker 9: my sorority. Still, I mean I feel like I could,
• 5:43
Speaker 9: if I was in a bine call any of them.
• 5:45
  Speaker 2: Not that's loose.
• 5:46
Speaker 9: Not any of them, I would say, probably a handful.
• 5:50
Speaker 2: Yeah I am not.
• 5:51
  Speaker 5: That's so interesting.
• 5:52
  Speaker 10: Yeah.
• 5:52
Speaker 7: We did a calculation the other day if we threw
• 5:54
Speaker 7: a party of just like six years of my sorority.
• 5:59
Speaker 7: We got to one hundred and fifty people in like
• 6:01
Speaker 7: like literally ten minutes.
• 6:04
  Speaker 2: Yeah, that's how I feel.
• 6:05
Speaker 1: My I just got married a couple months ago, and
• 6:08
Speaker 1: all my bridesmaids were my sorority sisters, including my own
• 6:11
Speaker 1: blood sister who was then joined my sorority. And then
• 6:14
Speaker 1: I had a house party because there were so many
• 6:16
Speaker 1: of us, I couldn't have seventeen bridesmaids.
• 6:19
Speaker 4: I was going to be the number and I just
• 6:20
Speaker 4: felt like that was a little crazy.
• 6:22
Speaker 1: So I did a house party and the other girls
• 6:24
Speaker 1: besides Daisy and like three others were my sorority sisters.
• 6:29
Speaker 5: Yeah what about you, Daisy Me.
• 6:31
Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm like so.
• 6:32
Speaker 3: At San diegoce I my roommate freshman year, Christy, I
• 6:37
Speaker 3: was in Alpha FIE, she was in Pie PI, and
• 6:39
Speaker 3: we both like found our groups like within, like she
• 6:42
Speaker 3: had our group in Pi FI. I had my group
• 6:44
Speaker 3: in Alpha PI, and then we kind of like morphed
• 6:46
Speaker 3: everyone together. So like most of my friends, all my
• 6:49
Speaker 3: friends like outside of college were in Alpha or Pi FI.
• 6:52
Speaker 3: And then I have like a couple friends that I
• 6:54
Speaker 3: did like stuff at school with, but like, for the
• 6:57
Speaker 3: most part, I'm the closest with them.
• 6:59
Speaker 2: I would say, we.
• 7:01
Speaker 7: Got that at my school Kappa d G PI FI
• 7:03
Speaker 7: and everyone's still friends.
• 7:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, where did you go to school? By?
• 7:08
Speaker 7: Okay, so much for being anonymous.
• 7:13
  Speaker 10: I would like.
• 7:14
Speaker 4: Not to exploit you, but I have to know.
• 7:18
Speaker 2: We should like have the logos of the schools like
• 7:21
  Speaker 2: pop up. Okay.
• 7:26
Speaker 3: Do girls fight over boys when you're in a sorority?
• 7:29
  Speaker 10: Yes?
• 7:30
Speaker 4: Yeah, No I never experienced that.
• 7:35
Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's like like girls like, I mean, girls
• 7:41
Speaker 3: can be shady and they're like they're like, oh, you're
• 7:44
Speaker 3: like hanging out with that guy?
• 7:46
Speaker 2: Will like I'm like hooking up with him.
• 7:49
Speaker 4: I never had that.
• 7:51
Speaker 7: We call it like claims, Like people would make claims
• 7:53
Speaker 7: on a boy. Yeah, and then if another sorority sister,
• 7:57
Speaker 7: like even months after those two end, did if another
• 8:01
Speaker 7: sorty sister started to date or like that boy, Yeah,
• 8:06
  Speaker 7: a little dramatic.
• 8:07
  Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't.
• 8:08
Speaker 6: I don't know if I find it that dramatic, Like
• 8:10
Speaker 6: I would never you know, start things with like a
• 8:14
Speaker 6: guy that my soorty sister had been with.
• 8:16
Speaker 5: Oh, I was so many boys. I wasna I went.
• 8:21
Speaker 8: To a school that was sixty percent girls and forty
• 8:24
Speaker 8: percent boys, so it was slim Pickett.
• 8:27
Speaker 2: You gotta fight. Everybody was fighting for themselves.
• 8:31
Speaker 8: But I mean seriously, like I feel like every week
• 8:35
Speaker 8: there was a new just draw draw between girls because
• 8:39
Speaker 8: it was like, don't kiss someone that your sorority sister.
• 8:42
  Speaker 8: I'd guess, but that's impossible.
• 8:46
  Speaker 10: Whatever.
• 9:00
Speaker 3: I remember being like, if like older girls in my sorority,
• 9:04
Speaker 3: if like someone in my pledge class like started like
• 9:08
Speaker 3: talking to their and like you comment, as a freshman,
• 9:10
Speaker 3: you don't know anything, but like say, like a girl
• 9:14
Speaker 3: starts talking to an upper classman's like ex boyfriend or
• 9:17
Speaker 3: something like that and start hooking up with them, like
• 9:20
Speaker 3: it's like crazy, and it's like you should not do that,
• 9:24
Speaker 3: like you like, and it's almost like then like that
• 9:26
Speaker 3: friend group like will like not like attack you, but
• 9:30
Speaker 3: like you know what I mean, they're they're like sowing.
• 9:33
Speaker 7: Back now because like I said, it's been thirty years,
• 9:36
Speaker 7: but I remember I kissed a boy that my big
• 9:38
Speaker 7: sister in the sorority dated.
• 9:40
Speaker 5: Yeah, and I don't think she was too happy about it.
• 9:42
Speaker 5: And now I'm totally still totally friends with her.
• 9:45
Speaker 7: I don't even think if like we called her right now,
• 9:47
Speaker 7: she'd even be able to name who the boy was Yeah.
• 9:50
Speaker 5: I mean I remember because it was a little bit
• 9:51
Speaker 5: more dramatic for me.
• 9:55
Speaker 4: We have a friend and she the upper classman thing.
• 9:59
Speaker 2: She yes. I was like, who are we talking about?
• 10:02
Speaker 1: She was like terrified to talk to this guy because
• 10:06
Speaker 1: an upper classman. I guess they claimed him. Yeah, it's
• 10:10
Speaker 1: literally how she described it. They were like, you're not
• 10:12
Speaker 1: going to talk to him. He's he's ours and he's
• 10:14
Speaker 1: older than you, and you need to stick stay in
• 10:16
  Speaker 1: your lane.
• 10:17
Speaker 4: Yeah, and now they're dating.
• 10:19
Speaker 3: But now in college it was like no, And then like,
• 10:24
  Speaker 3: way is.
• 10:26
Speaker 7: The only thing that I think get a little sticky
• 10:28
Speaker 7: in the sorority can.
• 10:29
Speaker 5: Get a little sticky.
• 10:31
  Speaker 2: Extended past college.
• 10:33
Speaker 9: There was a situation in my sorority that our president
• 10:40
Speaker 9: at the time came to college with her high school boyfriend.
• 10:42
Speaker 2: He also joined a fraternity.
• 10:45
Speaker 9: She went on a semester travel abroad, and while she
• 10:50
Speaker 9: was gone, he hooked up with somebody from our sorority,
• 10:53
Speaker 9: but she didn't know, and they got married very young,
• 10:57
Speaker 9: and she was convinced that she that they lost the
• 11:01
Speaker 9: virginity together and like in their marriage she found out that.
• 11:07
Speaker 2: This is giving like tell me lies, you guys seen that.
• 11:10
Speaker 9: Yeah, in their marriage that he had cheated lost his virginity,
• 11:14
Speaker 9: is just somebody else in the same crority.
• 11:16
Speaker 6: I think the most important part of that, like the cheating.
• 11:20
  Speaker 6: I mean, that's really.
• 11:20
Speaker 9: Nice stuff, but like that's and that's so that's extended
• 11:23
Speaker 9: past college, so it gets it gets sticky.
• 11:26
  Speaker 2: Wow.
• 11:27
Speaker 3: Wow, Okay, let's move on to the next fun Are
• 11:31
Speaker 3: mixers and like pre parties as wild as movies and
• 11:35
Speaker 3: TV make them seem?
• 11:41
Speaker 2: Not not like in.
• 11:43
Speaker 1: The movies where like people are jumping off the roof
• 11:46
  Speaker 1: and stuff like.
• 11:47
Speaker 2: I mean, no people at mine like jumped off the roof.
• 11:51
Speaker 1: Honestly would Maybe I feel like the acting is kind
• 11:56
Speaker 1: of fake where it just seems so out of touch.
• 11:59
Speaker 3: It's all so like I don't know about you guys,
• 12:01
Speaker 3: but like when we would go to like fraternity parties
• 12:03
Speaker 3: and say, it'd be like, okay, Alpha Fi, we have
• 12:06
Speaker 3: a pre party with sigap. Then we would go like
• 12:10
Speaker 3: with to Cingette, but no one ever had solo cups.
• 12:13
Speaker 3: Like everyone would drink out of plastic vodka handles and
• 12:16
Speaker 3: then have a like Steven Up like chaser from like
• 12:21
Speaker 3: Trader Joe's, and it would be vodka.
• 12:22
Speaker 2: The gods and everyone would just be slugging it.
• 12:24
Speaker 1: Out of the same bottle past Sumer haircuts.
• 12:30
Speaker 4: They would pour both so you'd like and dump it
• 12:34
Speaker 4: into your mouth at the same time.
• 12:36
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 12:36
Speaker 7: I will say I went back to s AE as
• 12:39
Speaker 7: an old person, you know, like during a fraternity party
• 12:43
Speaker 7: on a football game day, and I was actually like disturbed.
• 12:48
Speaker 7: I was like it was so wild and they were
• 12:52
Speaker 7: doing all that sharing and all.
• 12:54
Speaker 5: I could think about was the germ like mono.
• 12:56
Speaker 7: Yeah, like yeah catching and it was so hot and
• 13:00
Speaker 7: there's so many people that I was actually like a person,
• 13:03
Speaker 7: was like I actually cannot do this. Yeah yeah, But
• 13:05
Speaker 7: I think as a twenty year old I would have
• 13:07
Speaker 7: been like, this is amazing.
• 13:09
Speaker 3: It's also like you're away from like you don't have
• 13:13
Speaker 3: any rules. You feel kind of invincible and you can
• 13:16
Speaker 3: go out and party whenever you want and you walk
• 13:18
Speaker 3: in and it's like, I don't know about you, guys,
• 13:20
Speaker 3: but it was dark. There were lights, there were like
• 13:23
Speaker 3: people were DJing, Like, honestly, how many frack guys are DJs?
• 13:27
Speaker 2: Because chair expired so bad?
• 13:33
Speaker 5: Oh my god, these are great questions. Keep going, this
• 13:35
Speaker 5: is good, they get.
• 13:37
Speaker 2: Good, Okay, oh, this is okay.
• 13:40
Speaker 3: Do sorority girls actually have to earn invites to the
• 13:43
  Speaker 3: best parties.
• 13:44
Speaker 6: No, well, I'm the social chair of my sorority.
• 13:48
Speaker 2: Oh so you go in everywhere.
• 13:49
Speaker 6: I'm I'm making sure that we get the good parties.
• 13:52
Speaker 6: And it's also kind of like as dramatic as it seems, like,
• 13:57
Speaker 6: I want the entirety of my sorty to attend these
• 13:59
Speaker 6: events that we can continue having like a good relationship.
• 14:01
Speaker 5: What about a day party? What about a day party?
• 14:04
Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, that's kind of like the like frat guys
• 14:08
Speaker 6: themselves will seek out one person. So it's kind of like, yeah,
• 14:11
Speaker 6: if us as a sorority, we're going to maintain these
• 14:13
Speaker 6: great friendships or more with these guys, then that's how
• 14:16
Speaker 6: you can kind of like get yourself into like a
• 14:18
  Speaker 6: date party.
• 14:19
Speaker 7: I'm trying to remember, like South Seas do they start?
• 14:21
Speaker 7: So how does that work? Is that essial just a darty?
• 14:23
Speaker 6: So we just i mean like social.
• 14:26
Speaker 1: Party, but like anyone can show up, Like if that's
• 14:31
  Speaker 1: what the question.
• 14:31
Speaker 5: Is is get into South Seas.
• 14:33
Speaker 2: No, it's not for us.
• 14:35
Speaker 3: It's like yeah, for me, it was like my sorority,
• 14:37
Speaker 3: so like Alpha Fie, like we could get into like
• 14:42
Speaker 3: like the three like frats that like we mainly like
• 14:45
Speaker 3: hung out with, we could go in there. But if
• 14:47
Speaker 3: like another girl like walked up and they were like
• 14:50
Speaker 3: not in a sorority, or if they were in like
• 14:52
Speaker 3: a different sorority and didn't have like a relationship with
• 14:54
Speaker 3: that frat, they'd be like, show me your group me.
• 14:59
Speaker 7: That's how you to prove And the scroll you just
• 15:03
Speaker 7: said show me or show me or get me.
• 15:06
Speaker 2: So it's like, do you know what group me? So
• 15:08
Speaker 2: it's like an app where like you can add everyone.
• 15:11
Speaker 3: So like if we were all on the same sorority,
• 15:13
Speaker 3: I would add all of you guys, and then we
• 15:14
Speaker 3: would do like alpha pi like times like s AE,
• 15:19
Speaker 3: and then we'd all be in the same one. So
• 15:20
Speaker 3: then if I showed up and I was like, okay,
• 15:22
Speaker 3: I'm Daisy, I'm an Alpha fi, they would scroll on
• 15:25
Speaker 3: it to make sure that it's like real and not
• 15:27
Speaker 3: a screenshot and make sure that it's you. And then
• 15:29
Speaker 3: like if Gracie showed up with me and she wasn't
• 15:32
Speaker 3: an alpha fie, like say she was like not in
• 15:34
Speaker 3: a sorority, they'd be like, no, like, she can't come.
• 15:37
Speaker 2: If I was visiting you, if you were visiting me.
• 15:40
Speaker 3: Then it's like different than I like put in that
• 15:42
Speaker 3: I have a friend visiting me or honestly, I mean
• 15:45
Speaker 3: it's not horrible, but like it was and the guys
• 15:48
Speaker 3: are like, oh, like you're hot, like they'll let you in.
• 15:51
Speaker 7: So how did I get into South Seas Because it
• 15:53
  Speaker 7: wasn't there a guest list?
• 15:54
Speaker 5: I feel like my name was on a list or something.
• 15:57
Speaker 6: What we do is we have like physical wristbands in
• 16:00
Speaker 6: apps sometimes, but that's just maybe because like now there's
• 16:03
Speaker 6: a lot more people that will try and go to
• 16:04
Speaker 6: the fraternitys and it's not like a if you're hot
• 16:07
Speaker 6: or not thing. It's like a safety thing of like
• 16:09
Speaker 6: there could be people around Berkeley that are just like
• 16:11
Speaker 6: lurking trying to get into presses that like don't go there,
• 16:14
Speaker 6: and that's like a safety concern. So now we have
• 16:16
Speaker 6: like wristbands and like we have an app to where
• 16:19
Speaker 6: we can like add people if they're visiting ours.
• 16:22
Speaker 1: Was literally you walk up, you show your Sunniti and
• 16:25
  Speaker 1: you walk in.
• 16:25
Speaker 4: Oh wow, like there and your Suniti didn't say your
• 16:28
Speaker 4: sorority on it. They did not. There was no none
• 16:31
  Speaker 4: of that.
• 16:32
Speaker 1: But that's for that's for like Okay, Sigma Nu had
• 16:36
Speaker 1: what was there? They had like this one yearly big party,
• 16:40
Speaker 1: like there was no no rules for like anyone could come.
• 16:44
Speaker 1: It was the fratorney. Even guys from other fraterneys would
• 16:46
Speaker 1: sometimes come. They had like a friend that was in
• 16:48
Speaker 1: Sigma Nu. They'd be like all right, I'm gonna go. Yeah,
• 16:52
Speaker 1: But like date parties where it's just Katie and just
• 16:54
Speaker 1: SIGNU or just Katie just Sigma.
• 16:56
Speaker 4: Kai, you have to prove it.
• 16:58
Speaker 2: But like that's it would be like it's.
• 17:02
Speaker 8: Just regular parties. Anyone could walk in. Yeah, they didn't
• 17:05
Speaker 8: check a student ID, they didn't check a group me nothing,
• 17:07
Speaker 8: Like if you were a girl, you could just walk in.
• 17:10
Speaker 8: But then, like you were saying, with formals or date parties,
• 17:13
  Speaker 8: then there's a list or there's a wristband that you
• 17:15
Speaker 8: need to have. But any old fraternity party, especially a
• 17:18
Speaker 8: tailgate or something, anyone can get in.
• 17:20
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 17:21
  Speaker 2: No, San Diego.
• 17:23
Speaker 4: I don't know what it's like now the big city thing.
• 17:27
Speaker 1: Like I mean I was in Oxford, Mississippi, Like there's
• 17:29
Speaker 1: nothing there besides the college, so I could kind of
• 17:31
Speaker 1: see that not being a safety concern. But if you're
• 17:34
Speaker 1: in like a bigger city, you need to like control.
• 17:37
Speaker 3: Is kind of like it's like not close, like if
• 17:40
Speaker 3: you think of like downtown San Diego and stuff like that.
• 17:42
Speaker 2: It's like it's like in its own little kind.
• 17:45
Speaker 3: Of world, you know what I mean. And the only
• 17:47
Speaker 3: one that like the only people that try to get
• 17:49
Speaker 3: to the parties are like college students.
• 17:50
Speaker 5: Like any old people listening that still don't know what
• 17:52
Speaker 5: a group me is, I'm totally with you. They still
• 17:56
Speaker 5: it's just like, yeah, it's like group chats.
• 18:01
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a bunch of trip chots.
• 18:03
Speaker 3: Like an easy way to start, like a text start
• 18:05
Speaker 3: without giving your number kind of.
• 18:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, you can only.
• 18:09
Speaker 5: Say it's fine, person. I don't think anyone over forty
• 18:12
Speaker 5: is understanding that. But that's fine.
• 18:14
Speaker 2: I'm over thirty and I'm getting it.
• 18:15
Speaker 3: So next question, are there ceremonies for things like engagements,
• 18:33
Speaker 3: et cetera. Is the candle pass tradition real or just
• 18:37
Speaker 3: a room it is?
• 18:38
  Speaker 2: It's real.
• 18:40
Speaker 8: Every single week my chapter would go like thirty or
• 18:44
Speaker 8: forty minutes longer than it should have because we had
• 18:47
Speaker 8: a candle pass, because there were a lot of ring
• 18:49
Speaker 8: before spring girls in the stort wait when the candle spring,
• 18:53
Speaker 8: Like you get engaged before you.
• 18:57
Speaker 2: Oh no, wait, that's actually this.
• 18:59
Speaker 5: Is like the actually engaged.
• 19:01
Speaker 4: So they get engaged the secret, Yeah, it's they get engaged,
• 19:07
Speaker 4: but they keep it a secret.
• 19:09
Speaker 1: And then they have a candle and they put the
• 19:10
Speaker 1: ring on the candle and they pass it around and
• 19:15
Speaker 1: then you sing a song and then at the very end,
• 19:18
Speaker 1: the candle ends up with the bride and it's.
• 19:21
Speaker 5: Like, oh my god. They tell their entire love.
• 19:25
Speaker 8: Story for like way too long.
• 19:29
  Speaker 10: Year.
• 19:29
Speaker 4: So that is crazy.
• 19:32
Speaker 5: One pinning in four years.
• 19:35
  Speaker 6: I don't do that.
• 19:37
Speaker 7: What is a pinning like you're or this pinning is
• 19:41
  Speaker 7: like you're it's a step before getting engaged. So it's
• 19:45
Speaker 7: the same candle and the candle's going around and you
• 19:49
Speaker 7: don't know who it is, and then it stops.
• 19:50
  Speaker 5: I don't remember how.
• 19:51
Speaker 7: There was some sort of singing and then that person
• 19:54
Speaker 7: who's maybe the friend, blows out the candle so the
• 19:57
Speaker 7: person knows they're getting pinned. And then all the boys
• 20:00
Speaker 7: come in in suits and then but it's just a pinning.
• 20:04
Speaker 7: I think they give them. It's very old timy. They
• 20:07
Speaker 7: give their fraternity pin to the girl. And then it's
• 20:11
Speaker 7: like engaged to be engaged.
• 20:13
Speaker 1: So they're hinting like you're gonna engage.
• 20:16
  Speaker 5: It's like it's like a spring.
• 20:18
Speaker 3: Honestly, thinking of like frat boys, Like all of my
• 20:22
Speaker 3: like frat guy friends who I'm still friends with, love
• 20:24
Speaker 3: them all to death, but like they were total frat
• 20:28
  Speaker 3: boys in college.
• 20:29
Speaker 2: Like I like, you cannot marry any of them. Maybe
• 20:33
Speaker 2: it's like maybe they.
• 20:34
Speaker 3: Would never do that, like they would well, they just
• 20:37
Speaker 3: like there's no way they possibly could.
• 20:39
Speaker 2: They're they're they were just like animals. I'm sorry, it's true.
• 20:46
  Speaker 2: There's a school in Minnesota.
• 20:48
Speaker 3: It's a private school and if you get engaged before
• 20:51
Speaker 3: you graduate, you get school free.
• 20:54
Speaker 2: Noel, Yeah, it's called I'm pretty sure.
• 21:01
Speaker 7: I'm like, actually, Google, give us another question, will you?
• 21:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, Oh, let's due.
• 21:08
Speaker 3: Do you think Bama rushed TikTok mates already see more
• 21:11
Speaker 3: extreme than they really are?
• 21:13
Speaker 4: Yeah, not for ole miss.
• 21:16
Speaker 3: Not for all miss. Well that makes sense because they're
• 21:18
Speaker 3: both in the South. Yeah, I seem like the TikTok.
• 21:21
Speaker 3: I think like social media has opened up like a
• 21:23
Speaker 3: whole other aspect to it where other people can like
• 21:25
Speaker 3: watch it too. But even my friends I remember in
• 21:28
Speaker 3: our group chat, we like sent like our sorority Alpha
• 21:32
Speaker 3: Fie at sandy or say like they do all those
• 21:34
Speaker 3: dances before and they like scent it. And I was like,
• 21:37
Speaker 3: all my friends were dancers, and I was like, you guys,
• 21:39
Speaker 3: i'd be that girl with just her arm showing in
• 21:41
Speaker 3: the back holding the sign. Then like my friends were like, oh,
• 21:45
Speaker 3: we'd be in the front dancing, like eating.
• 21:47
Speaker 2: That shit up, you know what I mean. So, I
• 21:49
  Speaker 2: don't know, it's definitely changed.
• 21:51
Speaker 7: Yeah, And we need to get like a grandma in
• 21:54
Speaker 7: here du from you know, when they were in school
• 21:57
Speaker 7: in the sixties or seventies, because it'll be interesting too.
• 22:01
Speaker 8: Imagine showing them one of those tiktoks.
• 22:03
Speaker 4: They'd be like, what the hell's this.
• 22:07
  Speaker 5: Petition that?
• 22:08
Speaker 6: Yeah, my grand was in his story in the sixties
• 22:10
Speaker 6: and she had said to me recently being like, so
• 22:12
Speaker 6: what is work week? And why do I keep seeing
• 22:14
Speaker 6: you on the Instagram?
• 22:15
  Speaker 2: What's happening?
• 22:16
  Speaker 6: And I'm like, I don't even know.
• 22:17
Speaker 5: Yeah, we need to do a grammar episode. We'll do that.
• 22:20
Speaker 2: Yes, I need to gramas. If you want to be
• 22:22
Speaker 2: on the podcall in.
• 22:23
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 22:25
Speaker 3: Next question, do sororities secretly keep hotless during rush? Like
• 22:29
Speaker 3: meaning like do they keep tabs of like girls that
• 22:32
  Speaker 3: they like.
• 22:32
Speaker 2: Want in the sorority of course.
• 22:34
Speaker 8: Yes, yeah, I feel like that's no secret.
• 22:36
Speaker 1: Yeah, I think social media plays a part in it,
• 22:38
Speaker 1: Like we were saying for sure, where they see online
• 22:41
Speaker 1: a girl that has like the in her bio that
• 22:44
Speaker 1: she's going to go to the school, and I feel
• 22:47
Speaker 1: like they kind of like keep tabs.
• 22:49
Speaker 3: Yeah, like someone joins the Facebook pages and is like scouting.
• 22:52
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 22:53
Speaker 3: Do alumni ever pull strings to control who gets a bid?
• 23:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, I know other sororities. It was like it
• 23:04
Speaker 1: was kind of crazy.
• 23:05
Speaker 4: I don't know if it was like this for y'all.
• 23:06
Speaker 4: Was Rush Week like super drama for y'all.
• 23:09
Speaker 6: Yeah, just so tiring.
• 23:11
Speaker 1: So for us, like every day there was like a
• 23:14
Speaker 1: rumor there was something about this house was doing this,
• 23:16
Speaker 1: this house was doing that, And I remember alumni being
• 23:20
Speaker 1: a huge part of one of the rumors. Actually every
• 23:23
Speaker 1: year that this house's alumni was keeping this girl whose grades.
• 23:28
Speaker 4: Were below the requirements and.
• 23:30
Speaker 1: They or they have these like crazy past things that
• 23:32
Speaker 1: they've done that they like shouldn't be put it.
• 23:34
Speaker 2: Yeah, it was crazy, guys.
• 23:37
Speaker 3: We have so many more juicy questions that people ask
• 23:40
Speaker 3: and so come back for the next episode because we
• 23:43
Speaker 3: are going to do a part two. We didn't even
• 23:46
Speaker 3: get halfway through the question, so come back for that
• 23:49
Speaker 3: and thanks for being here.
• 23:50
  Speaker 2: Love you guys.
