- 0:01Speaker 1: The issues, the interviews and the insight. Ryan Bridge on
- 0:05Speaker 1: early edition with ex Pole insulation, keeping Kimi Holmes warm
- 0:09Speaker 1: and try this winter news talks.
- 0:11Speaker 2: That'd be good morning. It's Friday six alf to five.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Great to have your company coming up before six this morning.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Why the trespass laws are good for franchise owners, the
- 0:20Speaker 2: changes that have been announced in the last twenty four hours.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Vincent mcabinney are UK Europe correspondent Rachel Reeves explaining those
- 0:26Speaker 2: tears that moved the bond markets yesterday. Elliot Smith is
- 0:30Speaker 2: in Dunedin for US, it's the all Blacks France this weekend.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Insulation too hot for some, particularly in northern This is
- 0:38Speaker 2: your standardized insulation. The upgrades of the government wants not
- 0:42Speaker 2: working up north. We look at that. Plus are we
- 0:44Speaker 2: political sitrap for you at five twenty five this morning.
- 0:50Speaker 1: The agenda, Friday, the fourth of July.
- 0:52Speaker 2: The Democrats busy filibustering Trump's big beautiful bill. This is
- 0:56Speaker 2: House Leader HARKEM. Jeffreys seven hours.
- 0:58Speaker 3: In today to make it clear that I'm going to
- 1:03Speaker 3: take my time and ensure that the American people fully
- 1:08Speaker 3: understand how damaging this bill will be to their quality
- 1:14Speaker 3: of late.
- 1:15Speaker 2: He's still on his feet, still going. Of course, Trump
- 1:17Speaker 2: wants allus wrapped up by the fourth of July. They
- 1:19Speaker 2: are fast approaching. Both resumes as soon as he sits down.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Devastating news for football fans this morning. This is diojo Jotta,
- 1:28Speaker 2: the Liverpool ford who has died in a car crash
- 1:31Speaker 2: in Spain at the age of twenty eight. Tragic news.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Car crash due to a tire blowout while overtaking another
- 1:37Speaker 2: Car's brother also died in the crash. He helped lead
- 1:40Speaker 2: Liverpool to win the Premier League back in May, and
- 1:43Speaker 2: just a fortnight ago was married to his long term
- 1:45Speaker 2: girlfriend who he has three children with.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Arguably you know the biggest name in world football, Cristiano Ronaldo,
- 1:52Speaker 4: saying we were only just together in the national team.
- 1:54Speaker 4: You had only just got married. I send my condolences
- 1:58Speaker 4: and all the strength in the world to your to
- 2:00Speaker 4: your wife and to your children. He said, it does
- 2:04Speaker 4: not make sense.
- 2:07Speaker 2: No bail four did he this after the jury in
- 2:10Speaker 2: a sixth trafficking trial returned its verdict guilty on some
- 2:13Speaker 2: lesser charges, not on the more.
- 2:14Speaker 5: Serious Holmes has very good attorneys and I bet you
- 2:18Speaker 5: Mark Agniffolo is already working on that sentencing recommendation. So
- 2:22Speaker 5: if he's sentenced to only two years and his time
- 2:25Speaker 5: is running concurrently, meeting everything he sentenced to on those
- 2:28Speaker 5: two charges running together two years, he's going to get
- 2:31Speaker 5: credit for that time served.
- 2:32Speaker 6: He could walk out.
- 2:34Speaker 5: In a year, and I mean, you think about that,
- 2:36Speaker 5: he was facing a potential life sentence and to think
- 2:40Speaker 5: that he could be out in under two years is
- 2:43Speaker 5: really an astonishing outcome.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Get ahead of the headlines on early edition with Ryan
- 2:50Speaker 1: Bridge and Expole insulation, keeping Kiwi Holmes warm and dry
- 2:55Speaker 1: this winter news.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Talks it be don't know if astonishing outcome is the
- 2:58Speaker 2: right word. I mean, if you found guilty on some
- 3:00Speaker 2: charges and not guilty on other charges that had higher
- 3:03Speaker 2: penalties than you would deduce that your sentence would be
- 3:07Speaker 2: less than it otherwise would have been. I mean, that's
- 3:09Speaker 2: just kind of justice, isn't it. Anyway, nine minutes half
- 3:11Speaker 2: to five that we'll have more news out of New
- 3:14Speaker 2: York the Lower Court, Lower Manhattan Court later in the program. Now,
- 3:19Speaker 2: June payroll data is sustaining in the US because we
- 3:21Speaker 2: spoke about this yesterday. Obviously a sign of the health
- 3:25Speaker 2: of the US economy, which is very important to the
- 3:27Speaker 2: rest of the world. So June payroll data is out
- 3:30Speaker 2: up one hundred and forty seven thousand for June, so
- 3:34Speaker 2: added one hundred and forty seven close one hundred and
- 3:36Speaker 2: fifty thousand jobs for June. The unemployment rate at four
- 3:39Speaker 2: point one percent. Now this is way better than what
- 3:41Speaker 2: we were talking about yesterday. The expectations of the economists
- 3:44Speaker 2: were one hundred and ten extra thousand extra jobs for
- 3:47Speaker 2: the month, unemployment at four point three percent. So unemployment lower,
- 3:52Speaker 2: jobs added higher. That is good. Stocks rallied, bond yields up,
- 3:57Speaker 2: dollar strengthened, and the expectations for a rate cut went
- 4:02Speaker 2: through the floor because you don't need to do it
- 4:05Speaker 2: and Trump won't be happy with that. So you can
- 4:07Speaker 2: probably expect some more vigorous tweeting from Trump about Jerome
- 4:11Speaker 2: Pale today. It has just gone ten minutes after five o'clock.
- 4:15Speaker 2: And by the way, we talked yesterday also about Rachel Reeves,
- 4:18Speaker 2: the Chancellor in the UK, and the fact that she
- 4:22Speaker 2: was crying during PMQ's yesterday. Well she's now given an
- 4:25Speaker 2: interview to explain because the bond market spiked, when for
- 4:28Speaker 2: every tear drop that fell. But anyway, she has given
- 4:32Speaker 2: an interview just to explain what she was crying about,
- 4:38Speaker 2: which we'll get too shortly. It has just gone ten
- 4:41Speaker 2: minutes after five and you're on news Talk, said.
- 4:43Speaker 1: B News and Views you trust to start your day.
- 4:47Speaker 1: It's earlier edition with ryanth Bridge at expol Insulation keeping
- 4:52Speaker 1: Kiwi Holmes warm and dry this winter, News Talk said,
- 4:55Speaker 1: be five thirteen.
- 4:56Speaker 2: So the Chancellor in the UK, Rachel Reeves, was a
- 4:59Speaker 2: bit of a hot mess and parliamentary questions yesterday and
- 5:02Speaker 2: was crying and had big bags under her eyes and
- 5:05Speaker 2: enough that she looked bad enough that the bond market
- 5:08Speaker 2: started to move off the back of her tears. And
- 5:11Speaker 2: she's explained what happened.
- 5:13Speaker 7: It's a personal issue and I'm not going to go
- 5:15Speaker 7: into the details of that. But my job as Chancellor
- 5:20Speaker 7: at twelve o'clock on a Wednesday is to be at
- 5:22Speaker 7: PMQ's next to the Prime Minister, supporting the government and
- 5:27Speaker 7: that's what I tried to do. I guess the thing
- 5:29Speaker 7: that maybe is a bit different between my job and
- 5:34Speaker 7: many of your viewers is that when I'm having a
- 5:36Speaker 7: tough day, it's on the telly.
- 5:39Speaker 2: And on the telly it was yeah, I don't know
- 5:42Speaker 2: a lot of people at the op of the Conservatives
- 5:44Speaker 2: are saying that you have to tell us what your
- 5:45Speaker 2: personal issue is. I don't know if somebody says they've
- 5:48Speaker 2: got a personal issue, you know, when it comes to
- 5:50Speaker 2: it in your workplace, someone says I've got a personal issue.
- 5:53Speaker 2: That's why I'm upset. You're not going to probe and
- 5:55Speaker 2: get them to confess, are you. I don't think that
- 5:59Speaker 2: would be appropriate. Fourteen minutes after five, Rich thought that
- 6:03Speaker 2: changes to insulation rules announced yesterday could save up to
- 6:06Speaker 2: fifteen thousand dollars per new build. Minister for Building Chris
- 6:10Speaker 2: Pinks scrapping the one size fits all approach to home
- 6:13Speaker 2: building to give developers and homeowners more flexibility, and looking
- 6:16Speaker 2: at making the fin Nor their separate climate zone. Felicity
- 6:19Speaker 2: Fox is final district councilor with me this morning. Hey Felicity, Oh.
- 6:24Speaker 8: Hi, Felicity Foy here, Oh.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Foroy, forgive me. Nice to have you on the program. Felicity,
- 6:30Speaker 2: tell me tell me what you guys are wanting this
- 6:33Speaker 2: climate zone for. What would that mean?
- 6:36Speaker 8: Okay, yes, we're in the finals here, so we're very subtropical.
- 6:41Speaker 8: I don't need to've be to the finals, Ryan, but
- 6:43Speaker 8: we're twenty beaches in twenty minutes, and that will mean
- 6:47Speaker 8: for us that we can bring down the very extensive
- 6:50Speaker 8: cost to build.
- 6:51Speaker 9: What's in the final.
- 6:52Speaker 2: What is the cost in the far North because nationally,
- 6:55Speaker 2: you know, they sort of say anywhere between three and
- 6:57Speaker 2: a half four thousand.
- 7:00Speaker 8: Square metal five thousand dollars per square meter. For us,
- 7:04Speaker 8: it's the transport, so we're four and a half hours
- 7:10Speaker 8: north of Auckland. And you might also have realized that
- 7:14Speaker 8: we've had our state highway as well among a mocker
- 7:16Speaker 8: clothes for a number of years, so we've had a
- 7:19Speaker 8: lot of barriers that we've faced with our distance from
- 7:22Speaker 8: metropolitan centers, but also the huge cost to get it here,
- 7:26Speaker 8: and that just means we have to pick up that
- 7:28Speaker 8: cost when we're building as well.
- 7:30Speaker 2: How much I mean, is there a problem right now
- 7:32Speaker 2: where people are shoving insulation and the homes that just
- 7:34Speaker 2: don't need it.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Oh?
- 7:37Speaker 8: Yes, definitely. The current existing standard that has been bored
- 7:42Speaker 8: in and the minister has announced that he's changing to
- 7:45Speaker 8: be more sensible and reasonable is totally over the top
- 7:49Speaker 8: when you look particularly at the glazing cost. The difference
- 7:53Speaker 8: between double glazing and low eglass is significant, as the
- 8:00Speaker 8: Minister has announced, fifteen thousand dollars is not uncommon just
- 8:05Speaker 8: for the glazing, so you think and that's the glazing alone,
- 8:09Speaker 8: and I know firsthand examples of that also from yesterday
- 8:14Speaker 8: speaking to home loan advisors finance advisors. The number of
- 8:20Speaker 8: people that are actually building has dropped significantly and we've
- 8:24Speaker 8: seen that in our council with our building consents, and.
- 8:28Speaker 2: No doubt that's partly because of the cost, presumably.
- 8:31Speaker 8: So did you believe it significantly because of the cost. Definitely.
- 8:34Speaker 2: And so when they made the change initially the previous
- 8:37Speaker 2: government to the insulation rules, did you guys say, hey,
- 8:40Speaker 2: we don't need this because it's warmer up here.
- 8:44Speaker 8: Definitely?
- 8:44Speaker 2: Yes, anyway that's annoying.
- 8:49Speaker 8: Yeah, well you might have seen in immediate the time
- 8:53Speaker 8: there were significant advocates for there, and that was the
- 8:56Speaker 8: insulation industry and the glazing industry, because obviously it impacts
- 9:01Speaker 8: them in a positive way. But for the every day
- 9:04Speaker 8: mum and dare just trying to get into a house,
- 9:07Speaker 8: that's a significant barrier. Particularly up here where we're subtropical,
- 9:11Speaker 8: we're much warmer. We call it the tropics. Of Moody
- 9:14Speaker 8: Fenowa and north here of Mandamoka. Yeah, I live here
- 9:18Speaker 8: at nine a mile beach. We are so warm and
- 9:21Speaker 8: the cost of the lowy glass is not needed.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Well listenally, appreciate your time this morning. Felicity Foy, who
- 9:28Speaker 2: is the Far North District councilor very keen for their
- 9:31Speaker 2: own climate zone in the Far North. And yes, to
- 9:35Speaker 2: answer your question, Felicity been there many times, love it
- 9:37Speaker 2: up there and can confirm it is its own little
- 9:41Speaker 2: climate and much warmer than it is further south. It's
- 9:46Speaker 2: eighteen minutes after five. Elliot Smith and Deneed next.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Ryan Bridge on early edition with ex bowl insulation keeping
- 9:54Speaker 1: kiwye Ho's warm and dry?
- 9:56Speaker 2: This winter News talks a b right, We've got the
- 9:59Speaker 2: first All Blacks ten the year. Tomorrow night they will
- 10:01Speaker 2: be taking on the French at Forsyth Bar Stadium in
- 10:03Speaker 2: to Needing. What a game it's going to be. What
- 10:05Speaker 2: a place to be, but a very cold one by
- 10:06Speaker 2: the sounds of it, News talks, they'd be voice of Rugby.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Elliott Smith is there for us this morning? Hey Elliott Elliott,
- 10:14Speaker 2: can you hear me? Mate? I've got your right on here.
- 10:17Speaker 2: How cold is it exactly bit Shelly.
- 10:19Speaker 10: Look, it was two degrees the other morning. It's a
- 10:21Speaker 10: bit warmer this morning, but it's raining. But the fortunate
- 10:24Speaker 10: thing about to need and of course, is that they've
- 10:25Speaker 10: got the probably the country's best stadium as it stands
- 10:28Speaker 10: in terms of having a roof, So once we get
- 10:30Speaker 10: to tomorrow night, conditions no barrier to what we might
- 10:33Speaker 10: expect from from both of these two teams. They both
- 10:35Speaker 10: love it. I mean, the All Blacks certainly level when
- 10:37Speaker 10: they come to town knowing that they can just play
- 10:39Speaker 10: whatever rugby they want or try to play whatever rugby
- 10:41Speaker 10: they want given the the roof. It's at Forsyth Bar Stadium.
- 10:45Speaker 2: And how important, how big of a deal is this
- 10:48Speaker 2: first one.
- 10:49Speaker 10: I think it's a chance of the All Blacks to
- 10:51Speaker 10: sort of draw a line in the sands. The season
- 10:54Speaker 10: last year was a few ups and downs, the first
- 10:56Speaker 10: year under Scott Robinson new regime, putting things to place.
- 11:01Speaker 10: This year, you know, Scott Robinson's made plenty of changes
- 11:03Speaker 10: to the All Black side. He's blooding four debutantes tomorrow
- 11:07Speaker 10: night too. Starting to coming off the bench. He admitted
- 11:11Speaker 10: that perhaps he was a little bit too conservative with
- 11:13Speaker 10: some of his selections last year. This time he swung
- 11:16Speaker 10: the pendulum the other way and is rolling the dice
- 11:18Speaker 10: on some inexperience and changing some combinations around not only
- 11:22Speaker 10: those four debutants, but changes elsewhere, moving to po Via
- 11:25Speaker 10: to to the blindside, Rico Yoani back to the left wing,
- 11:29Speaker 10: bringing a couple of flankers off the bench, which is
- 11:31Speaker 10: unusual as well. So this feels like more of an
- 11:35Speaker 10: All Blacks team that Scott Robinson, you know, wants to
- 11:39Speaker 10: perkin and and wants to sort of unleash on the
- 11:41Speaker 10: world rather than trying to win. And it feels like
- 11:45Speaker 10: a little bit of it, as I say, a little
- 11:47Speaker 10: bit of a sea change to this all Black selection philosophy,
- 11:50Speaker 10: which can only be a good thing depending on, of course,
- 11:53Speaker 10: how it goes tomorrow night.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to stay so long as it works.
- 11:56Speaker 10: Hey, that's exactly right.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Have Fabian Holland making his Daybut lo, this is going
- 12:00Speaker 2: to be quite the story to watch, doesn't it. I
- 12:02Speaker 2: Mean he's obviously from Holland originally, but has been playing
- 12:05Speaker 2: for the Highlanders down there and now he's going to
- 12:08Speaker 2: debut it lot for the All Blacks.
- 12:10Speaker 10: Yeah, real especial night tomorrow Nights to Sabian Holland two
- 12:12Speaker 10: hundred and four centimeters tooll He is a big unit
- 12:15Speaker 10: and he's a kind of player the All Blacks have
- 12:17Speaker 10: been looking for for for a few years now. That's
- 12:19Speaker 10: that big body that they can produce tool players, but
- 12:22Speaker 10: that big frame they just haven't had for it for
- 12:24Speaker 10: a number of years. Remarkable story. Come over from the
- 12:26Speaker 10: Netherlands at sixteen on a school scholarship and christ Church
- 12:30Speaker 10: then comes down to the need and toils away at
- 12:32Speaker 10: the NPC, gets to Highland his contract and now a
- 12:35Speaker 10: couple of years later is in the All Blacks. That
- 12:37Speaker 10: is quite remarkable, the sort of six years that Fabian
- 12:40Speaker 10: Holland has had and debuting tomorrow night on has adopted
- 12:43Speaker 10: home soil of Forsyth Bar Stadium. And there's a couple
- 12:45Speaker 10: other players, you know, Christian Leo, Willie Dupe Candifi.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Have gone the other way about it.
- 12:49Speaker 10: They're been toiling away in club rugby or super rugby
- 12:52Speaker 10: for a number of years and didn't know that they
- 12:54Speaker 10: necessarily get their chance and there sort of towards the
- 12:57Speaker 10: end of their twenties and getting their opportunity tonight. So
- 13:00Speaker 10: a couple of different paths that some of these debutants
- 13:02Speaker 10: are taken to the all Blacks tomorrow night and fascinating
- 13:04Speaker 10: you see how they.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Go absolutely all Finally, what's your points pick?
- 13:09Speaker 10: Oh look, I my colleague Lee and Navi went by
- 13:12Speaker 10: all Blacks by twenty. I went all backs by twelve
- 13:14Speaker 10: yesterday when we were doing some predictions. Always a little
- 13:16Speaker 10: bit rusty as they start the season, but I think
- 13:19Speaker 10: they'll win and win by twelve.
- 13:20Speaker 2: All right, we will hold you to that. On Monday, Elliott,
- 13:23Speaker 2: thank you, Alliant smith a News Talks, he'd be voice
- 13:25Speaker 2: of rugby in Dunedin. It is twenty three minutes after
- 13:28Speaker 2: five here on Newstalks. There'd be some car sale numbers
- 13:31Speaker 2: for you very quickly before we go to break. So
- 13:34Speaker 2: car sales always a good sign when car sales are
- 13:36Speaker 2: picking up, and they have. This is for June sales
- 13:39Speaker 2: on new cars and SUVs, totaling two hundred and forty
- 13:43Speaker 2: five for the month. That's up from six eight hundred
- 13:45Speaker 2: and seventeen in May, and it's about a thirty six
- 13:49Speaker 2: percent increase on sales from June twenty twenty four. And
- 13:54Speaker 2: the industry says, basically a lot of this is to
- 13:56Speaker 2: do with the investment boost. So there you go. Who
- 14:00Speaker 2: to thank it when luctancy go out and buy utes?
- 14:02Speaker 2: People obviously did. Tesla had a good month in June
- 14:04Speaker 2: as well, four hundred and seven sales. This is the
- 14:08Speaker 2: new model. Why that's been launched. People are getting their
- 14:10Speaker 2: hands on that. Really. Twenty five after five News Talk
- 14:13Speaker 2: CB a little political sit rep.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Next the early edition full show podcast on iHeartRadio Power
- 14:20Speaker 1: by Newstalks.
- 14:21Speaker 2: IV News TALKSZB. It is twenty six minutes after five.
- 14:25Speaker 2: The award for most press releases and announcements on a
- 14:28Speaker 2: single issue this week must go to National Law and
- 14:32Speaker 2: order was front and center. We had announcements about everything
- 14:35Speaker 2: from first responders to coward punches. It was an assault
- 14:39Speaker 2: of announcements. Now, announcements don't make streets safer. Announcements don't
- 14:44Speaker 2: fix problems on their own. We've learnt this. This was
- 14:47Speaker 2: a targeted campaign to reinforce the idea that they're tough
- 14:50Speaker 2: on crime, that they're on the side of the victim.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Why are they doing this well, because it's now one
- 14:56Speaker 2: of the minority of issues on which they outpole labor.
- 15:01Speaker 2: This is from the last IPSOS survey, so they've been
- 15:03Speaker 2: going healthilyather on law and order meanwhile, and the upside
- 15:06Speaker 2: down world we live in. Labour's overtaken the right for
- 15:09Speaker 2: the party most trusted to fix cost of living. And
- 15:12Speaker 2: I know for a lot of you listening, this is laughable.
- 15:15Speaker 2: They got us into this mess, et cetera, et cetera.
- 15:17Speaker 2: And I agree with you, but I think it's like
- 15:19Speaker 2: a protest vote against the incumbent when cost of living
- 15:22Speaker 2: is high. Would you actually go and vote for that
- 15:26Speaker 2: person tomorrow or are you just sending a signal of
- 15:30Speaker 2: general unhappiness. You never truly know, but Nationals clearly alive
- 15:34Speaker 2: to the fact that it's becoming an achilles hell for them.
- 15:37Speaker 2: The actual numbers are in range. The OC are nearly
- 15:39Speaker 2: neutral at three point twenty five percent, inflation at two
- 15:42Speaker 2: and a half percent, that's inside range two. But there
- 15:46Speaker 2: is a politically painful time lag between numbers getting into
- 15:50Speaker 2: band and voters felling it in their pockets. Luckson's team
- 15:56Speaker 2: have identified this problem. Their short term solution appears to
- 16:01Speaker 2: me to be bashed the supermarkets hard and repeatedly ram
- 16:07Speaker 2: raid them. It's almost like they've finished with the mongrel mob,
- 16:10Speaker 2: so now they're taking on the other gangsters, Woolworths, an
- 16:14Speaker 2: incumbent on Sorry, an announcement is coming on next steps.
- 16:18Speaker 2: We heard from the Primeister yesterday. This is months out
- 16:21Speaker 2: from the announcement being made. We're hearing it's going to come.
- 16:24Speaker 2: So labor bashes National on cost of living, and National
- 16:28Speaker 2: will bash the supermarkets and guess what, here's the kicker.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Nothing will happen to the prices we pay at our
- 16:36Speaker 2: weekly grocery shop, Ryan Bread. And the sad thing is
- 16:40Speaker 2: we all know that, don't we. We all know deep
- 16:43Speaker 2: down no matter what they promise, we ain't gonna get it.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Twenty eight minutes after five, Hakeem Jeffreyes is still going
- 16:50Speaker 2: by the way, and the Democrat House Leader, this is
- 16:53Speaker 2: Trump's big beautiful bill that's going through the House. So
- 16:56Speaker 2: been through the Senate. Jadie Varance got it through with
- 16:58Speaker 2: his deciding vote. Now gone back to the House because
- 17:02Speaker 2: it's been changed and they're filibustering, so we might not
- 17:06Speaker 2: see the end of that. By the way, there's a
- 17:09Speaker 2: couple of islands in Japan that have been shaking for
- 17:12Speaker 2: two weeks. This is earthquakes. They've had something like nine hundred.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I'll tell you about that after the break after the
- 17:17Speaker 2: news rather also we get to our political sorry, our
- 17:20Speaker 2: reporters around the country and we will get to Vincent
- 17:23Speaker 2: McAvennie in the UK for us. All ahead here, news Talk,
- 17:26Speaker 2: said b.
- 17:41Speaker 1: The news you need this morning and the in depth
- 17:44Speaker 1: analysis earlier, thisition with Ryan Bridge and ex bowl installation
- 17:48Speaker 1: keeping Kiwi homes warm and dry this winter. News Talk,
- 17:52Speaker 1: said Bee.
- 17:58Speaker 2: There's twenty four minutes away from Sex year on NEWB
- 18:00Speaker 2: on your Friday morning. We're going to get to the usorry,
- 18:03Speaker 2: get to Vincon mcaviney out of the UK shortly. He's
- 18:05Speaker 2: got a lot talking about, including Rachel Reeves explaining what
- 18:08Speaker 2: the tears were about yesterday. Also an update from the US,
- 18:13Speaker 2: The Democratic House Leader HAKEM. Jeffries has just broken the
- 18:16Speaker 2: record for the longest magic minute speech in US history,
- 18:19Speaker 2: which is where you stand up and don't stop talking.
- 18:21Speaker 2: They're filibustering Trump's big beautiful bill. Have a listen. We
- 18:25Speaker 2: don't work for.
- 18:26Speaker 11: Elon msss a speaker, as all of us prepared to
- 18:31Speaker 11: cast this vaulte. I hope my Republican colleagues will come
- 18:35Speaker 11: to the conclusion that we work for the American people.
- 18:40Speaker 2: He's just beaten the record set by Republican Kevin McCarthy
- 18:43Speaker 2: back in twenty twenty one, and there was a senator
- 18:45Speaker 2: you might recall an April we spoke about a senator
- 18:48Speaker 2: who was filibustering on his feet for twenty four maybe
- 18:52Speaker 2: even twenty five hours. That's a different record because that
- 18:56Speaker 2: was in the Senate. It's twenty three away from six
- 19:00Speaker 2: reporters around the country. Callum and Dunedan, Callum, good morning, morning,
- 19:04Speaker 2: right now. This is going to be a great weekend
- 19:06Speaker 2: for you guys. Yeah it is.
- 19:08Speaker 12: That's right, that's Test match weekend here and we're all
- 19:12Speaker 12: prepared for tomorrow night at Forsyth Bars Stadium. A lot
- 19:15Speaker 12: of talk though, will this be the last All Blacks
- 19:18Speaker 12: Tests for a while in the city given that christ
- 19:22Speaker 12: Church's new venue opens next year. This is a sell
- 19:26Speaker 12: out here tomorrow night, so that's good signs to the
- 19:28Speaker 12: rugby bosses. Twenty nine thousand expected. But we've got a
- 19:31Speaker 12: competition back in the South Island to host these games
- 19:34Speaker 12: from next year to Duneedan Venue's bosses, Paul Dawn. He says, look,
- 19:37Speaker 12: All Black's Tests are important for the culture of Dunedin
- 19:40Speaker 12: and they will continue to put their best foot forward
- 19:43Speaker 12: when it comes to hosting more tests here. He says,
- 19:45Speaker 12: not just christ Church, but they're competing with Hamilton, Auckland
- 19:48Speaker 12: and Wellington as well.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Your lots of competition now, isn't there. How's your weather today?
- 19:53Speaker 2: Cloudy with a few shells here today light wins and ten.
- 19:56Speaker 2: All right, thank you, Claires and christ Church morning Claire,
- 19:59Speaker 2: good morning.
- 20:00Speaker 8: Now.
- 20:00Speaker 2: At least twenty thousand people expected to attend the largest
- 20:03Speaker 2: lego brick show this weekend.
- 20:05Speaker 6: Yeah, well we might not have the All Blacks this weekend,
- 20:08Speaker 6: but we've got the brick show, So there you go.
- 20:09Speaker 6: Twenty thousand people expected at Wolfbrook Arena for this two
- 20:13Speaker 6: day event. Effectively there are three hundred exhibitors there and
- 20:16Speaker 6: they're gathering to display these huge lego creations. This year
- 20:20Speaker 6: there's going to be a particular focus on pieces that
- 20:22Speaker 6: will capture New Zealand heritage. This is a show that's
- 20:26Speaker 6: been running since twenty twelve. The organizer, Johnny Reid, says,
- 20:30Speaker 6: it's now pretty much as big as it can get
- 20:32Speaker 6: in christ Church. They are at Wolfbrook Arena, which is
- 20:35Speaker 6: the largest arena we have. Next step, he says, if
- 20:38Speaker 6: they are to continue growing it's to take over the
- 20:40Speaker 6: new stadium and.
- 20:41Speaker 2: There you go. There's a goal for you.
- 20:44Speaker 6: How's your weather clear, cloudy with more rain about particularly
- 20:48Speaker 6: later southwesterlies and a high of eleven.
- 20:50Speaker 2: All right, thanks for that and Max's and Wellington Max,
- 20:53Speaker 2: good morning, Good morning. Murder trial continues the Kindala family involved.
- 20:58Speaker 13: Yeah, it's been quite a time trial. This is Julia
- 21:01Speaker 13: Delooney's on trial for murdering her elderly mother, Helen Gregory,
- 21:05Speaker 13: in her Candala home. Candala, if you're not familiar with Wellington,
- 21:09Speaker 13: certainly one of her most upmarket suburbs. Daloney accused of
- 21:13Speaker 13: stealing money from her mum and then bashing her. She
- 21:16Speaker 13: denies murder. Daloney found who have been bad with money,
- 21:19Speaker 13: kept bags of the stuff around her house because she
- 21:21Speaker 13: didn't trust banks, kept a bag in the freezer full
- 21:24Speaker 13: of cash. Through the week, the jury has been shown
- 21:27Speaker 13: horrific photos of the murder scene, blood everywhere. Daloney initially
- 21:32Speaker 13: told first responders she thought her mum had fallen from
- 21:35Speaker 13: the attic while she was in the house. She then
- 21:37Speaker 13: left and then claimed that she was attacked by someone else.
- 21:42Speaker 13: The latest in the trial yesterday and expert pouring cold
- 21:45Speaker 13: water on that theory. The blood patterns just don't support
- 21:49Speaker 13: a fall from the attic. In one area, it looks
- 21:51Speaker 13: like someone's been pouring blood down the wall. It looks
- 21:54Speaker 13: like Gregory was hit about ten times. A vase or
- 21:58Speaker 13: vase has been the subject of interest. It's been examined.
- 22:02Speaker 13: The precariousness of the ladder up to the attic as well,
- 22:04Speaker 13: tough for a seventy nine year old woman to climb up.
- 22:07Speaker 13: The trial continues next week. Goodness me, Max, thank you
- 22:11Speaker 13: for that. How's the weather a bit early for today?
- 22:14Speaker 13: Shouts for much of the day fifteen the hay.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Thank you and Sneva's and Auckland nev good morning, Happy Friday,
- 22:20Speaker 2: Happy Friday? Or yes, Aukland, what's having with North Harbour Stadium?
- 22:23Speaker 14: Yes, well, look Tartuki Auckland Unlimited is going to continue
- 22:27Speaker 14: to manage the North Harbor Stadium. The Auckland Council held
- 22:31Speaker 14: an expression of interest process which result in the two submissions.
- 22:34Speaker 14: Now Tartuki Auckland Unlimited in the steering group they go
- 22:37Speaker 14: to to come together and put together this long term
- 22:41Speaker 14: vision for the stadium. But as we know, you know,
- 22:43Speaker 14: there's lots of concern that you know, people were saying,
- 22:46Speaker 14: what is happening with this stadium? They've got to improve
- 22:49Speaker 14: under utilization.
- 22:50Speaker 2: No, and goes there's no things.
- 22:52Speaker 14: Well, no more on A PACIFICA and North Harbor. You
- 22:55Speaker 14: know the teams are there, but you know, yeah, exactly.
- 22:58Speaker 14: So they're saying that they're going to try to prove
- 23:00Speaker 14: it that that's the angle.
- 23:02Speaker 2: I can say, yeah, then well that's all they can say. Clearly.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Have you ever been to North Haber Stadium? No, I
- 23:08Speaker 2: know that you haven't either. I didn't know it existed
- 23:11Speaker 2: until about I don't know, a year ago. I actually
- 23:14Speaker 2: don't even go to the shore. No, I'm gotta go.
- 23:18Speaker 2: You're gotta go, don't you swim? They've got the beach.
- 23:23Speaker 14: Maybe I should go, or maybe I should go because
- 23:25Speaker 14: at least.
- 23:25Speaker 6: You go to the beach this week.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Make it sound like it's a tropical adventure. It's over
- 23:30Speaker 2: the bridge.
- 23:32Speaker 14: They're flipping bridge.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Is it close today? You tell me you're here doing
- 23:37Speaker 2: the news. How's the weather?
- 23:39Speaker 14: Showers well becoming widespread? Look, can I've got to say this,
- 23:43Speaker 14: I'm not making it up. Possibility is understorms and aalea?
- 23:55Speaker 2: Is that true? That's true? The authority here Neva says
- 24:01Speaker 2: you might get had by something. Eighteen minutes away from
- 24:04Speaker 2: six News Talks DEBB. We'll get to Vincent mcaviny out
- 24:06Speaker 2: of the UK and Europe next. Also, i'll update you
- 24:09Speaker 2: on the Japanese islands and the earthquakes, because that's fascinating.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Trump getting his bill through the House, and here the
- 24:16Speaker 2: trespassing laws that the government has announced will be hugely
- 24:21Speaker 2: helpful if you have a franchise. We'll tell you why.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Before six International correspondence with ends in eye insurance, peace
- 24:29Speaker 1: of mind for New Zealand business, sort.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Of the six on New Talks DEBB. Liverpool Liverpool Fords
- 24:36Speaker 2: Diojo Jotta has tragically died in a car crash in
- 24:39Speaker 2: Spain and fans are understandably devastated. Vincent mcaviny are UK
- 24:43Speaker 2: Europe correspondent with US Vincent. This is quite a tragedy
- 24:47Speaker 2: for the team.
- 24:49Speaker 9: A huge tragedy and it's been a real shock for
- 24:52Speaker 9: Liverpool fans. He was driving with his brother Andre Silva
- 24:57Speaker 9: in northern Spain. They were actually going to get the
- 25:00Speaker 9: boats the car ferry back to the UK because Diogo
- 25:04Speaker 9: had had a lung surgery and was told he couldn't
- 25:06Speaker 9: fly and he needed to get back for the preseason training,
- 25:10Speaker 9: but they had this horrible crash. It's thought that the
- 25:13Speaker 9: tire in the Lamborghini they were driving late last night
- 25:16Speaker 9: blew out as they were overtaking another car and sadly
- 25:20Speaker 9: all that remains is the sort of burnt out car
- 25:23Speaker 9: at the side of the road. Fans of Liverpool have
- 25:26Speaker 9: been turning up at anfield to leave flowers and floral tributes.
- 25:30Speaker 9: There's been messages of condolence from many senior figures right
- 25:34Speaker 9: across football, including Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, who simply says
- 25:39Speaker 9: it doesn't make any sense.
- 25:41Speaker 2: No, it's I've very very said, and we'll be had
- 25:43Speaker 2: for a lot of fans to die yesterday. Imagine. Now
- 25:45Speaker 2: let's go to British prominise to kiss Stama, take your
- 25:50Speaker 2: Chancellor to work day, basically taking who're on a visit
- 25:52Speaker 2: that he's doing to a health care facility. After those
- 25:55Speaker 2: questions and those tiers and PMQ's yesterday.
- 25:59Speaker 9: Yeah, it is four years tomorrow. Sorry, it is one
- 26:03Speaker 9: year tomorrow, fourth of July since they won. But they've
- 26:07Speaker 9: had an incredibly difficult week. Their big their state have
- 26:11Speaker 9: essentially been junked because they had a rebellion that they
- 26:14Speaker 9: weren't keeping enough of a track of I mean, Kissam
- 26:16Speaker 9: has been very busy on the international stage, but this
- 26:19Speaker 9: was highly embarrassing and that means that the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves,
- 26:22Speaker 9: has now got this huge problem in her finances and
- 26:25Speaker 9: at PMQ's she was seen to be crying. Now her
- 26:28Speaker 9: team have said there is a personal matter which she
- 26:31Speaker 9: doesn't want to discuss, which it has overwhelmed her slightly
- 26:35Speaker 9: on top of what has been a difficult week. Today
- 26:37Speaker 9: he was up making a visit to a health center
- 26:39Speaker 9: and he brought the Chancellor along and he had been
- 26:42Speaker 9: criticized somewhat from realizing that she was crying. PMQ's is
- 26:45Speaker 9: very hectic, very noisy, and he says, you know, it's
- 26:49Speaker 9: very hard to keep track of what's going on just
- 26:51Speaker 9: looking ahead of you. I didn't realize what was going on.
- 26:54Speaker 9: But she's going to be my chancellor for a long
- 26:56Speaker 9: time and she herself has had to give an in
- 26:58Speaker 9: to you today because the pound slid the bond market
- 27:02Speaker 9: it was effected as well, and she's come out saying
- 27:05Speaker 9: she has a plan that they can work around this
- 27:08Speaker 9: and that she expects to be chancellor for a long time,
- 27:10Speaker 9: but a year into government it is proving quite tricky
- 27:13Speaker 9: on the domestic front. Easier for labor, it has to
- 27:16Speaker 9: be said, on the international front, striking big trade deals
- 27:19Speaker 9: with the likes of the US in India and being
- 27:21Speaker 9: a key player on Ukraine. But at home things not
- 27:24Speaker 9: quite right.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Yeah, very very difficult week for them. Indeed, thanks so
- 27:27Speaker 2: much for that, Vincent Mecavini, a UK europe correspondent. It
- 27:30Speaker 2: is twelve minutes away from six. The government's given businesses
- 27:33Speaker 2: the powder trispass people from multiple locations. It's also raised
- 27:37Speaker 2: the maximum trist pass period from two years up to three.
- 27:40Speaker 2: Brad Jacobs is a franchise New Zealand chairperson and coffee
- 27:43Speaker 2: club co owner with us this morning. Hey Bread, good morning, Ryan,
- 27:47Speaker 2: good morning. Good to have you on the show. You
- 27:50Speaker 2: like the sound of this. Is it going to make a.
- 27:51Speaker 15: Difference, Yeah, it certainly will. Obviously. One of the challenges
- 27:56Speaker 15: I give for franchise groups at the moment is that
- 27:59Speaker 15: franchise business are all individually owned, as you know, so
- 28:03Speaker 15: there would be no way at the moment for a
- 28:05Speaker 15: group to be able to trespass someone from multiple locations
- 28:09Speaker 15: in one go, So it would come back to repetition
- 28:13Speaker 15: and multiple frenchise's doing the same work over and over
- 28:16Speaker 15: again to be able to achieve the same outcome.
- 28:18Speaker 2: So basically, now, if somebody offends against one franchise franchisee,
- 28:23Speaker 2: then they've sinned against all of them.
- 28:26Speaker 15: That's my understanding of what they're proposing. Yes, so obviously
- 28:29Speaker 15: we haven't seen an exact bill yet or the legislation,
- 28:32Speaker 15: but that's how I understand it.
- 28:34Speaker 2: What about the find that increasing the maximum fine for
- 28:36Speaker 2: anyone refusing to give their name and address when requested
- 28:40Speaker 2: or giving false information from five hundred dollars to one
- 28:43Speaker 2: thousand dollars? Is that are they saying that's your responsibility?
- 28:46Speaker 2: Or is that if police are there? What's the story there?
- 28:48Speaker 2: Do you know?
- 28:50Speaker 15: Yeah, good question. Look, I guess the finds in my view,
- 28:54Speaker 15: remain relatively low, so I'm not sure that they're a
- 28:57Speaker 15: massive deterret to be honest, While it sounds good to
- 28:59Speaker 15: say that doubling, they're doubling off a fairly small base.
- 29:04Speaker 15: I guess the key is, yes, you need to be
- 29:06Speaker 15: able to at the moment, you need to be able
- 29:07Speaker 15: to have a lot of details of the person to
- 29:09Speaker 15: be able to actually issue a trespass notice. But again
- 29:12Speaker 15: mina standing is that they're working on ways to be
- 29:14Speaker 15: able to reduce that so that if someone does refuse
- 29:17Speaker 15: to give their details, or you may know them by
- 29:20Speaker 15: a common name which may not actually be their legal name,
- 29:23Speaker 15: that there could be ways to be able to still
- 29:25Speaker 15: issue a trespass notice even with that information.
- 29:28Speaker 2: What do you think the fines should be? You know,
- 29:30Speaker 2: if doubling from five hundred, one thousand or whatever is
- 29:33Speaker 2: not the go what should they be.
- 29:36Speaker 15: I think probably Unfortunately, for some of those repeat offenders,
- 29:39Speaker 15: it wouldn't matter whether it was one thousand, five or
- 29:41Speaker 15: ten thousand. I'm not sure that they're in a position
- 29:44Speaker 15: to make payment anyway, So I don't know. Doubling it
- 29:49Speaker 15: is certainly a good start, but I don't think there
- 29:52Speaker 15: are masses to terrent.
- 29:53Speaker 2: Unfortunately, in your coffee shop, do you get much abuse
- 29:57Speaker 2: going on? Because I'm assuming most of the people who
- 29:59Speaker 2: a wanting to steal stuff or going to supermarkets or
- 30:02Speaker 2: to retail stores rather than to a cafe.
- 30:06Speaker 15: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, it'd be our retail members that struggle
- 30:09Speaker 15: more my own personal business, Yes, cafes, we don't have
- 30:13Speaker 15: to trespass people that often in our cafes. No, fortunately,
- 30:17Speaker 15: it's not a huge problem for us. We certainly unfortunately
- 30:21Speaker 15: our team members do get treated unfairly regularly in the cafes.
- 30:25Speaker 15: People get a bit grumpy, but it's not to the
- 30:26Speaker 15: point where you would you'd need to remove someone. In
- 30:30Speaker 15: the CBD, we have four cafes in the CBD, they
- 30:34Speaker 15: do have to face a lot with unfortunately, people on
- 30:38Speaker 15: the streets, homeless people and people with some mental health issues.
- 30:43Speaker 15: Trespassing them sometimes is really just a bit of a
- 30:46Speaker 15: waste of time because unfortunately they don't have anywhere else
- 30:49Speaker 15: to go, and so they reappear or they move from
- 30:51Speaker 15: one corner of the city to another. So yeah, it
- 30:55Speaker 15: can be very challenging for our our frenchisees and the
- 30:58Speaker 15: CBD and Auckland in particular.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Interesting Brad, thank you Brad Jacobs Franchise New Zealand chairperson,
- 31:03Speaker 2: also co owner of a coffee club. It is eight
- 31:06Speaker 2: minutes away from the six News Talks. There'd be Mike
- 31:08Speaker 2: and the Studio next.
- 31:10Speaker 1: The first Word on the News of the Day early
- 31:13Speaker 1: edition with Ryan Bridge and x Fole Insulation keeping Kiwi
- 31:17Speaker 1: Holmes warm and dry this winter news talks a'd be.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Six to six on your Friday morning. Here's news you
- 31:22Speaker 2: can ignore today from CNN. There is no safe amount
- 31:26Speaker 2: of process meat to eat. They are basically telling you
- 31:29Speaker 2: to get rid of your of salami, get rid of
- 31:31Speaker 2: your sausage. This is study published in the journal Nature
- 31:35Speaker 2: Medicine today, and the scientists found data showed people who
- 31:39Speaker 2: ate as little as one hot dog a day had
- 31:42Speaker 2: an eleven percent greater risk of type two diabetes and
- 31:46Speaker 2: a seven percent increased risk of colorectal cancer than those
- 31:49Speaker 2: who didn't have any hot dogs. Drinking a can of
- 31:52Speaker 2: soda a day associated with an eight percent increase in
- 31:56Speaker 2: type two diabetes and a two percent increased risk of
- 31:58Speaker 2: heart disease. Better Living Everyone five away from sex, Bryan Bridge.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Might you be into all of that stuff with your
- 32:06Speaker 2: wanting to live till you're one hundred and forty?
- 32:09Speaker 16: Is a temple? Body is a temple? Did you get
- 32:11Speaker 16: your tickets?
- 32:12Speaker 2: It's alarm me down, No I didn't.
- 32:14Speaker 16: So you sit an alarm on your phone, so you sit.
- 32:17Speaker 16: It're so busy, So you're so busy. You set your
- 32:21Speaker 16: alarm so that when it goes diddling, ding ding ding, ding,
- 32:24Speaker 16: you go must get those tis and you didn't even
- 32:26Speaker 16: do it.
- 32:26Speaker 2: So I came back to it last night, right, And
- 32:28Speaker 2: then I was trying to book and it was very confused.
- 32:31Speaker 2: The pricing was very confusing. Wings want to right, so
- 32:34Speaker 2: they've got a gold that, they've got a silver, a
- 32:37Speaker 2: gold and ga. Yes, then they've got a titanium or
- 32:40Speaker 2: a platinum. Yes, it gets very expensive at that end
- 32:43Speaker 2: of town. Sure, so I won't what's expensive?
- 32:46Speaker 16: What do you get for that?
- 32:47Speaker 2: It was six hundred and forty dollars for a day,
- 32:50Speaker 2: for one day, for one day, But that gets you
- 32:52Speaker 2: a buffet, it gets you out, it's food and drink complimentary,
- 32:55Speaker 2: gets you in.
- 32:57Speaker 16: It'll be a nice it'll be a nice little tent.
- 32:59Speaker 16: You'll be close to the.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Planmarkey, Yeah, exactly. But I'm thinking of going GA.
- 33:03Speaker 16: Actually, well, was nothing wrong with GA.
- 33:04Speaker 2: What I'm only going to go there for a day.
- 33:06Speaker 2: How much is GA? This is the confusing thing. It's
- 33:09Speaker 2: said it was twenty five or thirty one dollars or something,
- 33:11Speaker 2: and then you go through and it's actually close to
- 33:13Speaker 2: eighty one for a day, right, So I just want
- 33:16Speaker 2: to make sure that that's correctly.
- 33:17Speaker 16: So you spend how much time did you spend on
- 33:19Speaker 16: this difference between the twenty five and twenty six and
- 33:21Speaker 16: eighty one dollars?
- 33:23Speaker 2: About five minutes so, and then at the end of
- 33:26Speaker 2: that decided to do nothing.
- 33:27Speaker 16: Okay, and so you're going to go back. You're going
- 33:29Speaker 16: to go back to that over the weekend maybe and
