- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Hello everyone, welcome back to the Astrology for Beginners podcast.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Stephanie Kate Boucher, and I am so happy to have you here.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: This is the podcast for you if you have ever wanted to learn how to read a natal
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: chart or were kind of interested in astrology and wished that you understood more
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: about it,
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: but you didn't know where to begin or it seemed too complicated and you didn't have
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: the time or the resources to invest in learning it.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: My goal is to break things down for you episode by episode in the most simplified
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: way that I can so that you can learn to speak the language of the stars.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Thank you for learning astrology with me.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Welcome, my friends.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: I am here with you today to talk about angles.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: I know I've referred to angles many times on this show before,
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: and if you've been confused about what those are and haven't been quite sure what I
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: mean when I mention angles,
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: then this is the episode for you.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Of course,
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: you might also be someone who has a loose understanding of what the angles are and
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: what they tell us,
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: but perhaps that understanding is still a bit vague or fuzzy.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: This episode is also for you.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: And if you do feel like you have a good understanding of your angles already, stick around anyway.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: And who knows,
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: you might pick up a new tidbit or two or get a slightly different perspective than
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: what you've heard before.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: So before we begin discussing anything,
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: if you don't already know what or where your angles are or what sign they are in,
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: go ahead,
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: if you are in a place where you can do so,
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: and pull up your chart.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: If you can't do that right now because you're driving, don't worry about it.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Just listen and take a look later.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: But if you can, look at your chart.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: And you will notice that there are essentially two separate lines,
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: long,
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: thick,
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: black lines that divide up your chart.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: There is one line that runs sort of horizontally or horizontal-ish,
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: at least,
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: because it could be just slightly diagonal across the length of your chart.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: This line represents the horizon where the sky meets the earth.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: So what's on the left side of that horizontal line is the eastern horizon.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: And that's what was rising into the sky at the time of your birth.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: And what's on the right side of that horizontal line is the western horizon.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: And that's what was setting at the time of your birth.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: Remember that everything in the sky rises in the east and sets in the west.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: And it's shifting all day and all night, moment by moment, all the time.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: And then there is another line,
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: an additional line,
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: that runs vertically or vertical-ish because this one can be even more diagonal in
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: some people's charts.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: The top of this line in the upper half of your chart represents what was highest in
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: the sky at the exact time of your birth in your particular location.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: The bottom portion of this line,
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: exactly opposite that in the lower half of your chart,
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: is what was lowest in the sky when you were born.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: This is like the part of the sky that you couldn't see in your location on Earth at that moment.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Because, of course, we can't see the entire sky all around the circumference of the Earth all the time.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: We can't see the sun in the middle of the night, for example.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: In the middle of the night,
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: or what's the middle of the night for you,
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: where you are,
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: the sun is hidden from you.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: It's shining on the other side of the world where it's actually daytime.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: So the lower part of your chart is the sky that you couldn't see at that moment
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: because it was visible on the other side of the planet instead.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Okay,
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: so you have these two lines and they represent the eastern and western horizon,
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: as well as the highest and lowest points in the sky at the time of your birth,
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: as seen from the exact location where you were born.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: So what are they called and what do they mean?
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: What do they represent and why are they significant for you?
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about them one by one because the four points that I just referred to
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: are what we are referring to when we talk about your angles.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: And these four points, the four angles, are incredibly, incredibly important parts of your overall story.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: And by the way,
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: if for some reason you're having a hard time following me in case you can't quite
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: pick out what I'm talking about while you're looking at your chart,
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: I'm going to include a handout that has the angles pointed out very clearly for you.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: That will be available on the Substack page for this episode.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: And it's only available on the Substack page for this episode.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: I will include the link for that page in the show notes.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: So look at those,
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: click on it,
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: sign into Substack,
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: and you will find that handout in the show's description there.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Now, the first one of these angles that we're going to discuss is one that you already know about.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Everyone listening right now who has listened to the show up to this point already
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: knows about this angle because it has come up a bunch of times.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: The first angle,
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: and lots of astrologers would say it's the most significant angle,
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: is the ascendant line.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: also referred to as just the ascendant,
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: or you might see it in a chart as its abbreviations,
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: which you might see as either AS or ASC.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: This is where your chart begins.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: In most house systems,
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: The ascendant line forms the cusp of your first house, the house of self.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: And the sign that your ascendant is in is your rising sign.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: That's one of your big three.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: And we talked a lot about the big three several episodes back.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: And because this is where your chart begins,
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: it sets up the cadence of the whole rest of your chart and which signs rule all the
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: other houses.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: This is why it's so important to know your birth time because you've got to get
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: this ascendant line correct.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: So the ascendant line is the exact point in the sky that was rising on the eastern
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: horizon when you were born.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: It represents how you appear to the outside world,
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: how you show up,
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: the way that other people tend to see you.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: This is your social persona.
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: It's the you or the version of you that most other people see when they interact
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: with you,
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: both in terms of your physicality and in terms of your personality.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: And your rising sign can show up in your physical body.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Lots of people are carrying around features and a physical appearance that
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: resembles the traits or archetypes of their rising signs.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: So this can be about physical features themselves,
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: but it's also your general demeanor,
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: your mannerisms and facial expressions,
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: the way you dress or present yourself,
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: and all those kinds of things too.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: So lots of the things about you that can be detected visually are due to your ascendant.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: But more importantly than all the physical stuff,
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: your ascendant is,
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: as I mentioned,
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: a key indicator of your social persona.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: It's the version of you that interacts with other people most of the day or on most
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: occasions during all of the more mundane moments when you're not in your most
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: vulnerable state.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: This is kind of our default setting and where our personalities spend most of our time.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: Our ascendant is also kind of like the filter that every other thing in your chart,
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: including your sun sign,
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: gets sieved through before it reaches the outside world.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: So whatever is going on with your emotions or your desires or the impulses you're feeling,
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: all of that gets filtered through our ascendant before reaching the outside world.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: Usually.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: I mean, there are those moments for everyone, of course, when something else creeps through.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: exactly opposite the ascendant is the descendant,
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: which marks the western horizon at the moment of birth.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: Remember that this is what was setting and the descendant is about who we are in
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: relation to other people or in relationship with other people.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: This line marks the cusp of the seventh house in most house systems.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: That's the partnership house.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: So this whole line,
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: this whole horizontal line from east to west or ascendant to descendant,
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: the horizon line,
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: represents our need to balance the self versus others and how we operate as
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: individuals versus how we cooperate with our people.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: This angle,
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: the descendant,
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: shows us how we function in our relationships and in partnerships of all kinds.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: It's where we stop being alone and completely independent and reach out to others
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: and decide to be with them and engage with them.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: So this angle and the sign that it's in can tell you,
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: well,
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: there are a couple of different ways you can look at it.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: There are different interpretations that I commonly hear, in fact.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: First,
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: it can tell you a lot about how you work with others,
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: how you commit,
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: what your relationship style is,
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: how you respond to being in a partnership.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: How you respond to an enemy, even, because like it or not, that's a relationship of sorts, too.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: The seventh house is the house of partnership, but it's also considered the house of open enemies.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: So the sign on the descendant shows us our relationship style.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: So if you have your descendant in Aries,
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: for example,
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: you might operate within your closest relationship or relationships as someone with
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Aries-like qualities,
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: such as independence and assertiveness or directness and things like that.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Now there is another way of looking at this angle too.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: I've commonly heard the perspective that I just shared with you,
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: the perspective that it shows you how you show up in relationship to others.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: But I also commonly hear it explained in a different way, and I think either can be correct.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: And this other way is that instead of it being about what we project to others in relationships,
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: it can show up as the traits that the people we're in relationships with project
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: back to us.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: So for example, if your descendant is in the sign of Scorpio,
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: then it could mean that you show up in your relationships with a lot of Scorpio
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: traits or with a lot of Scorpio-like desires for your relationship.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: Like maybe you want a lot of intensity and emotional depth and you don't like,
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: casual flings or things like that.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Or alternatively,
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: it could mean that the people you are in close relationships or partnerships with
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: show up as Scorpio-like for you.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: Like you are attracting people in who are very intense and want a lot of emotional
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: depth and who don't want to keep things too casual.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: In other words,
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: this angle can be about what or who it is that you are attracted to,
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: the type of person that you are drawn to.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: And when it works out this way,
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: it kind of makes sense,
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: I think,
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: because it's the opposite of our ascendant sign,
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: which is ourselves.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: So it can become an opposites attract kind of dynamic.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: It can feel like these are traits or qualities that
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: that we ourselves are missing.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: And maybe we sometimes wish we were more like this descendant sign instead of being
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: in our ascendant sign all the time.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: And so we find someone else who brings this energy into our lives.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: So for example,
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: if you're a Libra rising,
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: and maybe you struggle with setting boundaries or with indecisiveness,
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: then you might be really attracted to someone who behaves more like an Aries and is
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: very assertive and decisive and direct.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: I've looked at a lot of charts,
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: even just with my own friends and relatives,
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: where a person's descendant line was in the same sign as their partner's sun sign,
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: for example.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: Like someone who has a Sagittarius descendant being married to someone with a Sagittarius sun.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: Or someone with a Sagittarius rising or a Sagittarius moon.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: It can be extremely literal and on the nose like that.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: Or perhaps this person's partner isn't a Sagittarius,
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: but they are warm and jovial and philosophical and adventurous,
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: and they exhibit many of the traits that we associate with Sagittarius.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: That can happen too.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: With either of these perspectives,
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: however,
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: whichever way you choose to look at it,
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: because again,
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: I think it can show up either way and maybe both ways at different times in your
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: life or in different relationships.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: Either way,
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: I think the underlying theme with this angle is that it shows you what your
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: relationships feel like to you.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: What does it feel like for you to be in a relationship or in a partnership of some kind?
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: And when I say relationships,
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: that of course encompasses romantic relationships and partnership and marriage and
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: all of that.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: But all close significant relationships in any part of your life can be indicated here.
- 14:40SPEAKER_00: We all have all kinds of partnerships that can show up for us over a lifetime.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: So I don't want anyone thinking that I'm only talking about the romantic ones here.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: The midheaven,
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: or MC,
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: which is short for,
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: or the abbreviation for medium celli,
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: that's the top of that vertical line that shows you what was highest in the sky
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: when you were born.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: In most house systems, it marks the cusp of the 10th house, which is the house of career.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: And the midheaven can offer important information about one's career.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: But the midheaven is more than that.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: This angle is about having a calling.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: It represents what it is that you feel called to do, what it is that you have to offer and want to offer.
- 15:33SPEAKER_00: and how and where you are best able to offer it.
- 15:38SPEAKER_00: So it can be about your aspirations and your goals and where your ambition lies and
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: also where you are likeliest to receive public recognition for something.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: Now, notice that I said this is more than just career.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: And that's because while a person's calling can certainly be tied to one's career,
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: and many times it is,
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: sometimes it's not.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we don't get paid to follow our truest calling, even if we are in fact following it.
- 16:11SPEAKER_00: There could be lots of reasons for this.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: Maybe you're a very creative person,
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: like an artist or a musician or a writer or something,
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: and you're completely devoted to your craft and wouldn't stop doing it in a million years.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: And you love it.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: And when you're at work on this craft, time just melts away and you're in the zone.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: But maybe it doesn't pay the bills or it hasn't yet.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: So you have something else that you do that pays your rent or your mortgage and
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: puts food on the table or allows you to buy clothes for your kids or whatever.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: But you keep working on your calling anyway because it fills you with passion and joy.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Or maybe your calling isn't so much about art and instead it's about people,
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: something you're bringing to your community,
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: a long-term initiative or set of initiatives that you're leading.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: Like maybe you garden a lot as a hobby.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: And so eventually you decide you want to share that passion with other people.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: And so you start a big community garden and you start teaching other people in your
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: town or your neighborhood about growing vegetables and eating healthy and how to be
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: more sustainable.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: Maybe you start bringing the local school children eventually in for field trips
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: and you start talking to them about gardening and nutrition and they get to pick
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: some carrots while they're there or something.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: And you love it and you feel happy and useful because you're able to shift the
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: perspectives and behaviors of all kinds of people.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: And you become a positive and influential member of the community this way.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: And this results in lots of lovely relationships and you bringing all these people
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: together and making them healthier over many years' time.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: And that was your calling.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: But you were actually an accountant or something else for the rest of the time.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: That was how you sustained yourself financially, right?
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: Because the garden wasn't paying the bills.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: So for some people, your calling in life is your career or becomes your career.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: This happens a lot, but it can also be a separate thing from the work that pays you.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: Really, a good way to think about it is where is your legacy going to be and what are you leaving behind?
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: That's the midheaven.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: So in terms of reading your chart,
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: you'll want to check the sign that the midheaven is in and consider how the energy
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: and characteristics of that sign might weave either into your career or something
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: in your life that fills you up and motivates you or gives you a deep sense of
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: purpose or something that makes you want to strive and push forward in a way that
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: other things don't.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: And you'll also want to look at any planetary aspects that the midheaven is making,
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: because the energy of those planets that are aspecting the midheaven can give you
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: even more clues about what you should be doing.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: And we'll talk about that in a few minutes.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: And by the way,
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: if you use whole sign houses,
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: if that's the house system you prefer,
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: the midheaven can fall anywhere in the top of your chart.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: Most commonly, though, it will be in the 9th, 10th, or 11th houses.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: I rather like it when this happens because if it's in some other house,
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: something other than the 10th,
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: it can give you even more information about where your calling is.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: For example, if your Midheaven falls in the ninth house using whole signs,
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: That could signal that your calling,
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: or possibly your career,
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: involves ninth house themes,
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: such as teaching or academia or writing and publishing or journalism or religion or travel,
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: foreign countries or languages,
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: or the law,
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: something in the legal system,
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: perhaps.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: And an MC or midheaven in the 11th house might signify a calling or possibly a
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: career that involves working with a lot of people.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: This could be something related to sales and marketing, for example.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: I've seen that one before.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: It could be a job where you're communicating with lots of people,
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: maybe something related to social media or broadcasting to the extent that that's
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: still a thing.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: I think it's more about social media nowadays.
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: It could be something related to humanitarian work or community work.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: The garden example I just talked about would fit nicely here.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: A lot of celebrities have strong 11th houses because they have so many eyes on them all the time.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: But this placement is about there being lots of people interacting with you in some way.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: If you're using whole signs and the MC is still in the 10th house, though, that means something, too.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: A lot of people who work in government or politics have this.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: The 10th house is also quite literally about one's reputation.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: So it can indicate having prominence of some sort, being a prominent figure or a public figure.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: Like this would often be someone who becomes well-known in some area.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: for being the person they are or for what they've accomplished.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: There's typically a reputation there,
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: sometimes just in the particular industry they work in or sometimes out in the
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: community they live in or even in the world in general.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: Sometimes there's fame with this.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: Probably not for most people, but sometimes.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: And often,
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: this placement is just a strong indicator of a very career-oriented person with
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: high aspirations or a lot of ambition.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: Okay, next up is the IC, which is the abbreviation for IC.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: Emum Chelli.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: That's a hard one to say, but this is the only angle we haven't covered yet.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: And again,
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: this is the one near the bottom of your chart,
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: the lowest point in the sky,
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: and it's exactly opposite the midheaven.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: Opposite by both placement and meaning.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: If the midheaven tells us what we're able to put out into the world and what we're
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: able to contribute as part of our public life,
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: then the IC is about your private life.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: In most house systems, it marks the cusp of the fourth house.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: If you're using whole signs,
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: it can be anywhere in the lower part of your chart,
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: but most commonly it's in the third,
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: fourth,
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: or fifth houses.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: The IC symbolizes our home life and our family of origin.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: This is like the family culture that you grew up in and where you learned how to
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: feel the way you feel and act the way you act.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: There's information there about our basic security needs and what we need in order to feel safe.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: It can also shine a light on what our attachment patterns are.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: And this is because of the attachment patterns that we developed with our parents
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: or caregivers when we were young.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: Ancestry also ties into this.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: A lot of what we get from our families is passed down through the generations.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: This is true for both positive and negative patterns.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: So the IC can also shine a light on what your ancestors have passed down to you.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: So just like with the midheaven,
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: you'll want to look at the sign that the IC is in and consider all of the traits of
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: that sign,
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: both the more positive associations as well as the shadow side of that sign.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: And then do some brainstorming around how all of that weaves into your story.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: You'll also want to look at which planets are aspecting the IC.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: And this brings me to another point that I very much want to make.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: And that is that it's really,
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: really significant if you have any planets that are near any of your angles.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: If you have a planet or a luminary like the sun or the moon,
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: or a node that is within zero to 10 degrees of an angle,
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: or depending on the planet,
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: maybe up to five degrees of an angle,
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: that's probably more powerful.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: That's called a conjunction.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: And conjunctions are about fusing the energy of two things together or blending two things together.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: Having any planets conjunct an angle significantly elevates the importance of both
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: that angle and that planet in your chart.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: That conjunction between that angle and planet is going to be a big focal point in your life.
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: That planet is breathing its life
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: and its energy with all of its traits and all of its characteristics into that angle.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: And that energy,
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: that planetary energy,
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: kind of takes over that part of your life,
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: even if the sign that the angle is in kind of contradicts that energy.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: Remember that the planets are the actors in our chart.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: If you think back to that analogy I've used before of your life being a play or a
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: stage show of some kind or your natal chart being a play where your houses are the
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: stage or the sets and the signs are the roles that need to be cast or played out.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: But the planets are the actors who are playing the roles.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: So having an actor fused to an angle means that that angle is going to be getting
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: that actor's energy poured into it.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of activity there.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: So specifically, if we're talking about individual angles...
- 26:37SPEAKER_00: If you have a planet that's conjunct your ascendant,
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: that planet's energy and all it represents is going to be infused into your
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: personality and even into the way you look,
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: perhaps.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: And it also means that there is going to be a more intense focus on yourself and
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: your personal development throughout your lifetime.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: I think I've mentioned before that I have Pluto in an exact conjunction with my ascendant.
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: And I am constantly doing a lot of transformational work on myself.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: I am very reflective.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: I like to dig down very deep to figure everything out and figure myself out.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: And I do a lot of personal growth work.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: And I like to help other people do this too.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: Beyonce, just to use a celebrity, has Venus tightly conjunct her ascendant.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: And of course,
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: we know that she is not only considered classically beautiful as Venus is,
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: but she's extremely creative and artful.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: And her life is full of luxury and abundance.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: All Venus things.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: Lots of athletes have Mars conjunct their ascendant or their midheaven because Mars
- 27:56SPEAKER_00: infuses a lot of energy and physical activity and fierceness into the personality.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: Another one I think is interesting is Bill Gates.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: Bill Gates actually has Uranus conjunct his ascendant,
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: which would indicate that he's a very progressive and cutting edge person and an
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: out of the box thinker.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: Uranus is also associated with new technology.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: And of course, technology is literally the first thing we all think of when we talk about Bill Gates.
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: It's how we all see him.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: So you can't get a better example of a Uranus ascendant than that.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: So whichever planet it is that's conjunct the ascendant,
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: you're going to take all of the energy that that planet represents and just infuse
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: it into the personality itself.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: If you have a planet conjunct your descendant,
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: then that planet's energy is going to be infused into your relationships.
- 28:56SPEAKER_00: You might attract other people or be attracted to other people who represent the energy of that planet.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: That's one likely scenario.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: Or it may be that the overall vibe of your relationships may be a reflection of
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: that planet's energy,
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: or it's the way you show up in a relationship,
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: and so forth.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: So,
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: for example,
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: if you were to have the planet Uranus conjunct the Descendant,
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: you might be someone who likes breaking with convention,
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: and you might buck tradition in your relationships.
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: Maybe you don't want to adhere to social norms and expectations in your
- 29:37SPEAKER_00: relationships and you want to find new ways of being in relationships that work
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: better for you.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: Or maybe you choose unconventional partners.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: It could also mean that you need a lot of independence in a relationship.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: You don't want to feel too confined and you need space to do your own thing a lot.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: And again,
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: having a planet conjunct this angle,
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: or even just having planets in the seventh house,
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: because the seventh house is considered an angular house,
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: means that this area is a significant part of your life that is emphasized,
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: and it's going to get a lot of your focus,
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: always.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: Whatever theme that this planet creates with that angle is going to be a key part of your life.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: If you have a planet conjunct your midheaven,
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: then this certainly signifies that your career or your calling or life's work is a
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: very important part of your life.
- 30:37SPEAKER_00: You're going to put a lot of energy into it, and it's a big part of why you're here.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: Additionally,
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: the specific planet that is in play is going to have a big impact in your career
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: and whatever it is that you're doing or are going to be doing.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: Your life's work is going to be infused with the qualities of that planet.
- 31:01SPEAKER_00: So like if you have Venus conjunct your midheaven,
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: you might have a calling or a career that's related to something creative or
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: something related to beauty or fashion or the arts.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: Neptune here could also be about creativity,
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: but that could also be about a spiritual work or service-oriented work.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: But with Venus,
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: perhaps you may have a career that's related to diplomacy or fostering positive
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: relationships because Venus is associated with all of those things.
- 31:35SPEAKER_00: If it's Mercury that's conjunct the midheaven,
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: then we're thinking about careers or a calling related to communication or intellect.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: Mars could be about being very assertive and driven in your career, being a fighter.
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: It's great for advocacy work.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: It's also great for doing any kind of physical work or things that require you to use your body.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: And if you have a planet conjunct the IC,
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: the Imam Cheli,
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: this gives you important information about the energy that has dominated your home
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: and family life,
- 32:14SPEAKER_00: particularly growing up.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: Jupiter here, for example,
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: could signal a very expansive family or a very warm family or a family that had a
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: very adventurous or philosophical energy that was then infused into you.
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: But on the other hand, Saturn here,
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: could signal that there were some difficulties at home in your early life.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: Your upbringing might have been very strict or maybe there were a lot of rules to
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: follow and you felt constrained or perhaps there wasn't enough affection.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: Mars here could indicate that it was a very active family,
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: a very busy family and there was always a lot going on.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: Maybe work ethic was very important.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: Or it could also indicate that there was a lot of fighting or anger or even aggression.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: Pluto can indicate that there were a lot of changes or maybe some instability in childhood.
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: Or sometimes it can signal that there was abuse of some sort.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: Planets that are conjunct the IC can also signify the traits that...
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: you need to express privately when you are on your own or that you need to make
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: space for in your private life.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: So going back to that Pluto example for a second,
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: maybe you're a very busy and outgoing person most of the time.
- 33:43SPEAKER_00: or when you're out in public,
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: but when you're home alone,
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: safely in the confines of your own space,
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: you need a lot of time for reflection.
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: And there's a deep urge to dissect and understand and work with emotions that are
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: normally hidden underneath the surface.
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: And of course,
- 34:01SPEAKER_00: again,
- 34:01SPEAKER_00: if you have planets conjunct the IC or even anywhere in the fourth house,
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: then your home and family are going to be very important for you.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: It's going to be an important part of what helps you to feel secure physically.
- 34:16SPEAKER_00: and safe in your life.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: You're going to focus a lot of your energy here,
- 34:20SPEAKER_00: maybe even more so than on your public life,
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: unless you have planets also conjunct the midheaven,
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: in which case these planets would be opposing one another,
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: right?
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: Because the 10th house and the 4th house are opposing.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: And so in that case,
- 34:37SPEAKER_00: you'd have this push-pull dynamic between the two houses,
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: and you'd be constantly looking at work-life balance issues and things like that.
- 34:45SPEAKER_00: Now, the last thing I want to talk about just quickly are the nodes.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: If you'll remember from our recent episode on the lunar nodes,
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: you will recall that the north node is all about where you are sort of destined to go,
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: where you are headed,
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: and what you came here to grow into and learn more about,
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: while the south node
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: is an area where you have already become expert in the past,
- 35:16SPEAKER_00: and you're trying to let go of that identity and those skills just a little bit in
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: order to make space for new experiences.
- 35:27SPEAKER_00: So if you have your nodes conjunct with one of the angles,
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: that is an incredibly powerful placement and very significant.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: Your north node on an angle is going to signify that you are actually here to learn
- 35:45SPEAKER_00: how to grow into the part of your life that that angle represents.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: You are here to have the experiences around trying to grow that area and
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: also the experiences around having that be a well-developed area of your life.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: That would also mean,
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: of course,
- 36:05SPEAKER_00: that the south node is conjunct with the opposite angle,
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: which means that you would have put a lot of emphasis on that area in the past.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: And it doesn't mean you won't focus on it at all now,
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: but it does mean that you're going to try and let go of having that be
- 36:24SPEAKER_00: the primary emphasis of your life because you're trying to make space for that opposite thing.
- 36:30SPEAKER_00: So very interesting placement there.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, so that was kind of a lot.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: I know it's a bit tricky because now I'm not just giving you new information,
- 36:39SPEAKER_00: but I'm also asking you to take what you already know,
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: what you know about planets and signs and now angles and
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: And practice blending these different things together in order to form an
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: interpretation that feels right to you.
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: But give it a try.
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: See what happens.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: And follow your gut on this.
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: You know your life best.
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: And you can hone in on what these things mean for you and how the energies show up
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: for you in your unique life.
- 37:13SPEAKER_00: That is all for today, everyone.
- 37:15SPEAKER_00: If you have an extra few seconds, I would love it if you could rate or review this podcast.
