- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey Joe here before we begin. This is part two
- 0:03Speaker 1: of a special treat Nick and I prepared during the
- 0:05Speaker 1: Christmas holiday of our Marvel Top twelve best post credit scenes.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Today is our audio version of picks six through one.
- 0:13Speaker 1: If you'd like to see the project and the visuals,
- 0:15Speaker 1: which I highly recommend, check out our YouTube page. May
- 0:18Speaker 1: the review be with you, and please give us a
- 0:19Speaker 1: like and subscribe to help the channel out. Our next
- 0:21Speaker 1: episode of the pod will be out this week and
- 0:24Speaker 1: it's a review of Star Wars Skeleton Crew, so be
- 0:26Speaker 1: on the lookout. Okay, here's the show number six.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Does anyone else find it crazy that the quickest way
- 0:39Speaker 2: to get a hold of an intergalactic superhero is to
- 0:42Speaker 2: page them?
- 0:43Speaker 1: Now you mention it, it makes perfect sense.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Oh, there is no way you believe that.
- 0:49Speaker 2: But also it's hilarious to realize that it took for
- 0:52Speaker 2: disintegrating bodies to make Nick Fury finally call Captain Marvel
- 0:56Speaker 2: for the first time in this universe.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Of course, talking about the post credit scene in Infinity
- 1:02Speaker 1: War with Nick Fury and Maria Hill. This scene, we
- 1:07Speaker 1: were already coming off of one of the most brutal
- 1:10Speaker 1: endings in MCU film a superhero film had ever given
- 1:15Speaker 1: us with the elimination of half of our heroes, and
- 1:20Speaker 1: I remember our theater just being so quiet, and then
- 1:25Speaker 1: this scene pops up and we're watching Maria and then
- 1:30Speaker 1: Nick start to disappear, and then the zoom in onto
- 1:33Speaker 1: the pager, and I don't know, maybe it was because
- 1:36Speaker 1: like we were all so sad or like horrified about
- 1:39Speaker 1: what had just happened, and then those colors show up,
- 1:42Speaker 1: and the hype in the room was at an all
- 1:46Speaker 1: time high, like we needed a hero in that moment.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Yeah, we needed something.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I just complete excitement, utter disbelief when this whole thing
- 1:54Speaker 2: goes down, and I think all of us were still
- 1:57Speaker 2: hoping that the after credit scene was going to show
- 2:00Speaker 2: with some glimpse of like, oh, okay, everything that just
- 2:03Speaker 2: happened like is gonna get reversed quickly. There's no way
- 2:06Speaker 2: the movie ends like this. And then we see this
- 2:09Speaker 2: happen to Fury and Hill, and then we see the
- 2:13Speaker 2: pager with Captain Marvel's insigney on it, and we had
- 2:17Speaker 2: a little give us a little glimmer of hope.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I think what also makes this scene so memorable is
- 2:22Speaker 1: after the carnage that we just witnessed an Infinity war.
- 2:26Speaker 1: We learned that not even Nick Fury is safe from this.
- 2:29Speaker 2: The movie ends and we're just all shocked in the
- 2:31Speaker 2: theater and we see Fury and ray Hill and we're
- 2:34Speaker 2: just like, oh, thank God, like this everything's gonna be okay.
- 2:38Speaker 1: It feels like the adults showed up.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it feels like the adult adults showed up, and
- 2:42Speaker 2: then not even the adults were safe because all of
- 2:44Speaker 2: a sudden, they're.
- 2:45Speaker 1: God, I'm eve an adult, i am an adult.
- 2:49Speaker 3: I'm just like, what the hell is going on around here? Man?
- 2:51Speaker 2: And saying all that, it makes me feel like maybe
- 2:53Speaker 2: this should actually be higher on our list because this
- 2:55Speaker 2: was such a mega moment in the theater.
- 2:57Speaker 1: No, it is, and honestly, I think there is an
- 3:01Speaker 1: argument to make this higher up on the list. And truthfully,
- 3:04Speaker 1: I think if Captain Marvel actually served a larger role
- 3:08Speaker 1: in the next film segueing, I think it could have.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Right now, granted, there's Captain Marvel is a pretty controversial
- 3:15Speaker 1: character throughout the MCU. You either really love this character
- 3:19Speaker 1: or she has a fan base, or she has a
- 3:21Speaker 1: base that just does not like her. We stand her
- 3:24Speaker 1: pretty hard over here, but either way, this moment, like
- 3:29Speaker 1: you said, Nick, it was a glimmer of hope in
- 3:31Speaker 1: an otherwise incredibly dark moment in the MCU, And for
- 3:35Speaker 1: that reason alone, I think this post credit scene amounted
- 3:39Speaker 1: to hype that we had never seen before. Number five.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Have you ever enjoyed shwarma?
- 3:48Speaker 1: Nick? We made it.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yes, we did number five on our top twelve MCU
- 3:53Speaker 2: credit scenes list, and it's a tasty one. Shwarmam swarma baby.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Yes, this scene deserves to be in the top five
- 4:02Speaker 1: for many reasons. For instance, did you know the Avengers
- 4:05Speaker 1: invented shwarma?
- 4:07Speaker 2: Not exactly No, but they damn well deserved it absolutely.
- 4:11Speaker 1: And what's wild is that it almost didn't exist at
- 4:14Speaker 1: least the scene that is.
- 4:15Speaker 2: This scene was actually a last second add on, and
- 4:18Speaker 2: I mean very last second.
- 4:19Speaker 3: This movie actually had.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Its red carpet premiere without the shwarma scene, and it
- 4:23Speaker 2: was added a month later.
- 4:25Speaker 1: That's right. Rubber Downy Junior improvised the Shorma line after
- 4:27Speaker 1: hul provived him. Viikey and Joss Wheaton thought that the
- 4:30Speaker 1: idea of superheroes going to get a bite to eat
- 4:33Speaker 1: in New York was so funny that they decided they
- 4:35Speaker 1: needed to add it to the movie.
- 4:37Speaker 2: The problem was that the movie was already shot, and
- 4:40Speaker 2: the actors were all doing different things, and they were
- 4:42Speaker 2: on different schedules, that is until the red carpet premiere.
- 4:46Speaker 2: The actor shot the scene the day after the movie premiere.
- 4:49Speaker 1: And thus gave birth to one of Marvel's funniest images.
- 4:52Speaker 2: The MCU took off in popularity in part because of
- 4:54Speaker 2: how realistic it felt to our world, like Tony selling
- 4:57Speaker 2: weapons in the Middle East or the United States reacting
- 5:00Speaker 2: to aliens with a call to use nukes.
- 5:01Speaker 1: The image of seeing all these heroes exhausted and rarely
- 5:04Speaker 1: eating is funny and also highlights one of the MCU's
- 5:07Speaker 1: early strengths. They felt like they were part of our world.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I think I think everyone was waiting for something, right,
- 5:15Speaker 1: Like we had just found out that the other was
- 5:18Speaker 1: talking to Thanos all this time, and that was that
- 5:21Speaker 1: was the mid credit scene, right and after the hype
- 5:25Speaker 1: of building this team up, we're all waiting collectively there
- 5:29Speaker 1: for whatever could be at the end of the credit
- 5:33Speaker 1: since you know, that's what Marvel had built itself on,
- 5:36Speaker 1: was through these credit scenes. And then it's just the
- 5:39Speaker 1: most ridiculous image of like these guys who barely they
- 5:43Speaker 1: don't look alive, they look dead.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Yes, they're all just absolutely exhausted, no speaking, no dialogue,
- 5:51Speaker 2: just complete exhaustion and hunger understandably, and.
- 5:56Speaker 3: It's just like it's a hilarious scene.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Also, the fact that, like the restaurant workers found time
- 6:02Speaker 2: to cook despite the damage that they were cleaning up
- 6:06Speaker 2: at the same time, Like.
- 6:09Speaker 1: That, that, to me is like the most realistic part
- 6:12Speaker 1: of the scene is that that after a disaster that
- 6:15Speaker 1: these people still showed up for work, because like that's
- 6:18Speaker 1: a real New York thing. It's like, I got I
- 6:21Speaker 1: gotta be able to put dinner on the table, I
- 6:23Speaker 1: got a job to do, no matter what, no matter what,
- 6:27Speaker 1: those are the real heroes, let me tell you. I
- 6:31Speaker 1: adore that.
- 6:33Speaker 2: What a just brilliant, brilliant and fun way to close
- 6:35Speaker 2: out Avengers one.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Oh yeah absolutely. And like one of my favorite parts
- 6:40Speaker 1: about this scene is going around the table and just
- 6:44Speaker 1: taking a look at what each and every character is doing. Uh.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I think Tony's the only one who's actually eating. Steve
- 6:52Speaker 1: is just staring off into space. I think Thor and
- 6:55Speaker 1: our banner are both just dead asleep and like you
- 6:58Speaker 1: can't seem Off or Martin as they just both just
- 7:03Speaker 1: look at that. You see the backs of them, they
- 7:05Speaker 1: just might as well.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Be corpses, and that they're all just taking a nap
- 7:08Speaker 2: at the Swarmer Joint together.
- 7:10Speaker 1: When Tony or when Robert uh you know, improvised that
- 7:15Speaker 1: shorm align uh he he be Josh here realized no, actually,
- 7:20Speaker 1: we do need to have that scene. That is hilarious,
- 7:22Speaker 1: and he's right, and it ended up being one of
- 7:25Speaker 1: the most iconic post credit scenes in the entire MCU.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Number four, you please stuff, let me, let me, let
- 7:35Speaker 1: me try that again.
- 7:36Speaker 3: No you so, no, no, no, no, they were not the
- 7:41Speaker 3: towering wretches. We will promise they are on Okay, Joe,
- 7:46Speaker 3: He's really going to do this.
- 7:47Speaker 2: So while Joe continues to embarrass himself with an awful impression,
- 7:51Speaker 2: coming in at number four is our first introduction to Thanos.
- 7:54Speaker 2: This might have been one of the most important post
- 7:56Speaker 2: credit scenes in the entire MCU, at least for the
- 7:59Speaker 2: phases one through three. Marvel had just finished it huge
- 8:02Speaker 2: milestone after assembling the Avengers for the first time on screen,
- 8:05Speaker 2: and it.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Proved that a large scale superhero.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Ensemble movie was not only possible, but also financially successful.
- 8:12Speaker 2: It may seem like no big deal now, but at
- 8:14Speaker 2: the time this was new and the battles that took
- 8:17Speaker 2: place at the theater captivated audiences for an entire summer.
- 8:20Speaker 2: After wrapping up the Battle for New York beating Loki
- 8:24Speaker 2: and his alien forces while saving the city from a
- 8:26Speaker 2: nuclear bomb, where could Marvel possibly take audiences next?
- 8:30Speaker 1: Too?
- 8:31Speaker 3: Caught death right on cue?
- 8:35Speaker 1: Sorry, I got really into that. Have you been doing
- 8:37Speaker 1: this all by yourself? Yes? Sorry, all right, I got
- 8:41Speaker 1: it from here. After watching our heroes take down an
- 8:44Speaker 1: army and a nuke, Marvel teased the future of the
- 8:47Speaker 1: series in a new direction. I don't think comic book
- 8:49Speaker 1: fans ever expected superhero movies to ever go Thanos and
- 8:53Speaker 1: the Infinity Stones. While Iron Man one teased an eventual
- 8:57Speaker 1: Avengers movie, this scene teased a universe of story telling
- 9:00Speaker 1: for the next seven years to come. Marvel just delivered
- 9:03Speaker 1: one of the most successful comic book movies ever, and
- 9:06Speaker 1: straight off the heels of it, they teased one of
- 9:09Speaker 1: their most beloved villains of all time. The hype was
- 9:12Speaker 1: at an all time high. If we just talked about Shwarma.
- 9:16Speaker 1: And we kind of teased this already because we talked
- 9:20Speaker 1: about the mid credit scene, but like, I mean, for real, though,
- 9:25Speaker 1: I don't know if people saw it coming. I don't
- 9:27Speaker 1: know if people were like, I'm waiting for this, are
- 9:29Speaker 1: they gonna do it? Are they gonna do it? Or
- 9:30Speaker 1: if they were just totally surprised. I was totally surprised.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I didn't know about Thanos too much. I only knew
- 9:36Speaker 1: of him, like very very loosely at this point.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Mh.
- 9:39Speaker 1: But that chin is very recognizable, yep. And even if
- 9:44Speaker 1: you'd only seen Thanos once you knew who, that was
- 9:47Speaker 1: shocking too.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Because, like you said, they just like had this huge
- 9:51Speaker 2: ordeal and we just like absolutely one of the best
- 9:54Speaker 2: stories that they've have been told. And then all of
- 9:57Speaker 2: a sudden, We're gonna get this insane, powerful character, Like
- 10:00Speaker 2: what what could possibly happen?
- 10:03Speaker 3: Essentially from all this.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I think that that was the hype, right is, even
- 10:08Speaker 1: if you don't know who Thanos is, right, that introduction
- 10:13Speaker 1: of like to court death and like that turn of
- 10:15Speaker 1: just like this menacing grid, I think kind of tells
- 10:18Speaker 1: you everything you need to know. Is the Battle for
- 10:21Speaker 1: New York was just the beginning, and something so much
- 10:24Speaker 1: worse is coming. We talked earlier about the about the
- 10:28Speaker 1: size difference between the Sanctuary Too and the Statesman, and
- 10:32Speaker 1: I think this is kind of an early like draft
- 10:35Speaker 1: of this right where it's not necessarily like a contrast
- 10:39Speaker 1: in size here, but there's a contrast in feelings, like yeah,
- 10:42Speaker 1: we just we just saved New York heray, but now
- 10:45Speaker 1: we're like, we're looking at this image that seems to
- 10:48Speaker 1: impose something much much more dangerous.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Right, Like New York was actually small time compared to
- 10:54Speaker 2: what Danels is going to rain on us later on.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Unreal.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Yeah, unreal is right. And I think one of my
- 11:03Speaker 1: favorite things about this scene is the Other himself. He's
- 11:06Speaker 1: a character we really don't get a whole heck of
- 11:09Speaker 1: a lot of, Like we get him in this movie
- 11:11Speaker 1: and then we get him in Guardians of the Galaxy
- 11:13Speaker 1: and that's the end of him. And I think he's
- 11:16Speaker 1: one of the more mysterious characters that we ever get
- 11:19Speaker 1: to see in the MCU, and we really don't get
- 11:21Speaker 1: any answers on him. I think the most interesting thing
- 11:25Speaker 1: about the Other is something that's actually retroactive, so like
- 11:30Speaker 1: in his speech, like to court Death, which already is
- 11:33Speaker 1: like a super metal line. It seems to imply what
- 11:37Speaker 1: Marvel's original plan for Thanos was, which clearly changed a
- 11:42Speaker 1: lot by the time we actually got to Infinity War
- 11:45Speaker 1: because in the comics, Thanos's original the whole Infinity Gauntlet
- 11:49Speaker 1: story is about him trying to woo the actual embodiment
- 11:54Speaker 1: of death. He loves this, the woman Death, and the
- 11:59Speaker 1: way that he's going to woo her, to court her
- 12:02Speaker 1: is he's going to erase half of all life in
- 12:05Speaker 1: the universe. And that line seems to very much imply
- 12:09Speaker 1: that they were originally thinking about adapting that story the
- 12:13Speaker 1: way that it was something that was more believable in
- 12:17Speaker 1: terms of like its relatability to our world. They related
- 12:21Speaker 1: it to resources as opposed to trying to trying to
- 12:24Speaker 1: I don't know, go on a date with the concept.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Of death, right.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Yeah, fascinating and great point too, with of course the
- 12:33Speaker 2: call out of to court death. So multiple meanings in
- 12:36Speaker 2: that sentence there.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Number three, what the breaking news Spider Man is, Peter Parker.
- 12:45Speaker 3: That's not really breaking news.
- 12:46Speaker 1: We all know that, Yeah, but like they didn't know that.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Coming in at number three.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Do you think Peter like whars or brings Deyodurant with
- 12:55Speaker 1: him when he goes webslinging.
- 12:56Speaker 3: That is why are you like this?
- 12:59Speaker 1: I'm just saying. He swings all day in the New
- 13:01Speaker 1: York sun in a polysynthetic suit. How breathable is that? Even?
- 13:05Speaker 3: Can you please focus?
- 13:07Speaker 2: No?
- 13:07Speaker 1: All I can think about is how mj must be
- 13:10Speaker 1: keeping it to herself. How smelly he is.
- 13:13Speaker 2: The suit has an AI and like fifty different combinations
- 13:15Speaker 2: of web attacks.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Just because it's advance doesn't mean it doesn't stink.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Joe, for the love of God, it has a vacuum
- 13:20Speaker 2: seal that we saw in Homecoming.
- 13:22Speaker 3: It can clearly air itself out.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I oh, that's that's actually a really good point.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Okay, okay, now that that's settled.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Coming in at number three on our best post credit
- 13:33Speaker 1: scene list is the breaking news announcement at the end
- 13:36Speaker 1: of Spider Man Far from Home.
- 13:38Speaker 2: This movie was brutal, with mysterios beat down of Peter for.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Real, that nightmare illusion sequence is still one of the
- 13:43Speaker 1: best fights in the entire MCU Oh, that would make
- 13:46Speaker 1: a really good future countdown list.
- 13:48Speaker 2: And even after Peter beats him, Mysterio manages to get
- 13:51Speaker 2: one last brutal punch in and actually ruin Peter's life,
- 13:54Speaker 2: although as we'll find out in the next Spider Man movie,
- 13:57Speaker 2: nobody is as good at ruining Peter's life as Peter is.
- 14:00Speaker 1: This scene was so unexpected, and I think it delivered
- 14:02Speaker 1: one of the best cliffhangers, not including Infinity War, the
- 14:06Speaker 1: MCU has ever delivered. One of the hallmarks of the
- 14:09Speaker 1: Home series was maintaining Peter's secret identity, and in one scene,
- 14:13Speaker 1: it strips that entire plot element away.
- 14:15Speaker 2: After teasing the multiverse in this movie, the post credit
- 14:18Speaker 2: scene welcomes JK. Simmons back into the role of j
- 14:22Speaker 2: Jonah Jameson to start spreading that Spider Man misinformation. Who
- 14:26Speaker 2: is Spider Man?
- 14:28Speaker 1: He's a criminal, absolutely, he is.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Of Vigilanti, making this scene memorable for so many reasons,
- 14:33Speaker 2: and unlike Tony, who chose to make his identity public,
- 14:35Speaker 2: that choice is stolen from Peter.
- 14:37Speaker 3: It's a moment that changed everything.
- 14:39Speaker 2: If that's not where they have a top three list mentioned,
- 14:41Speaker 2: I don't know what is this.
- 14:43Speaker 1: This was the beginning of Marvel's multiverse, but like only
- 14:46Speaker 1: sort of.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Yeah, only sort of, but like what a beginning? J
- 14:51Speaker 2: Jonah Jamison in the Flesh in the MCU.
- 14:55Speaker 1: This blew my mind when I saw this in theaters,
- 14:58Speaker 1: because like I remember going in to this movie thinking like, oh,
- 15:02Speaker 1: are they gonna get weird with the multiverse here, Like
- 15:04Speaker 1: we know that Mysterio is apparently a multiverse like Warrior
- 15:08Speaker 1: or something, and like, what's gonna happen? Is is Toby
- 15:10Speaker 1: maguire gonna show up? Like what's gonna happen? And then
- 15:14Speaker 1: we come to find out that of course it's not real.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Of course it's Mysterio putting on an illusion and just
- 15:19Speaker 1: made up the whole multiverse thing, which is so funny
- 15:22Speaker 1: because like apparently he just predicted what was gonna happen next. Right,
- 15:26Speaker 1: So so even though I loved I loved Mysterio, and
- 15:29Speaker 1: I loved that, oh that's not real, I did feel
- 15:32Speaker 1: a little let down that all, we're not doing multiverse yet.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Oh that's a bit of a bummer. And then we
- 15:37Speaker 1: get to this post credit scene and like they must
- 15:39Speaker 1: have known that that I was in the audience. This
- 15:42Speaker 1: was for me. They must have known that I was
- 15:45Speaker 1: gonna be a little disappointed, and they were like, no, no, Joe,
- 15:49Speaker 1: hang in there. Yeah, here's a little tease of the multiverse.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Hang in there, and it's JK. Simmons, Joe's favorite.
- 15:54Speaker 1: And it's Dayca Simmons.
- 15:56Speaker 3: Like fantastic.
- 15:59Speaker 2: It meant immense excitement in theaters just I mean basically
- 16:04Speaker 2: almost dropping an F bomb with everyone in theaters, right,
- 16:07Speaker 2: like same reaction as Spider Man in the theater though,
- 16:12Speaker 2: basically like what the so like mega mega moment. And
- 16:17Speaker 2: we should also talk about how Zindia hates web swinging.
- 16:21Speaker 1: We should have tolutely talk about how Zendia hates web swinging.
- 16:25Speaker 1: I love her rendition of MJ how different this character is,
- 16:31Speaker 1: and that moment in and of itself is just really
- 16:34Speaker 1: funny and definitely checks one of the boxes off of
- 16:38Speaker 1: our criteria list for what makes a great post credit scene.
- 16:41Speaker 1: But Nick, you pointed out that in Ragnarok that that
- 16:46Speaker 1: post credit scene threads the needle so beautifully and like
- 16:50Speaker 1: seamlessly into Infinity War, and this post credit scene does
- 16:56Speaker 1: the same exact thing, except we don't skip anything with
- 17:00Speaker 1: Infinity War. There is just a small skip of Fanos
- 17:04Speaker 1: beating up, beating up all the as Guardians, right. We
- 17:07Speaker 1: start the movie, right, but we know that the implication
- 17:09Speaker 1: happened whereas this this just picks up right from where
- 17:11Speaker 1: the post credit scene literally ended. Right. It's if this
- 17:15Speaker 1: scene doesn't want to make you watch No Way Home
- 17:18Speaker 1: immediately to find out what the heck happened, I don't
- 17:21Speaker 1: know what would.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a great point.
- 17:23Speaker 2: This actually contradicts I think my statement from our previous
- 17:27Speaker 2: our previous episode, like this is actually the closest timeline
- 17:32Speaker 2: hop but between a post credit scene and the next movie,
- 17:35Speaker 2: like this is literally zero seconds, like this is a
- 17:38Speaker 2: here's a credit and then this other movie starts right here,
- 17:40Speaker 2: and so like enjoy.
- 17:43Speaker 1: It might as well just be one movie, right, but
- 17:45Speaker 1: the two movies honestly, with the theme of the multiverse,
- 17:48Speaker 1: like it kind of works in a weird way. Yeap,
- 17:51Speaker 1: just a very long movie sitting that maybe you should
- 17:54Speaker 1: take an intermission for. Also, I have to just point
- 17:57Speaker 1: this out. I think it's so funny that missus Deeer
- 18:00Speaker 1: that the way he words the statement is Spider Man
- 18:04Speaker 1: is Peter Parker, as if Peter Parker is this famous
- 18:07Speaker 1: person that like everyone would know, because like in Times
- 18:10Speaker 1: Square there was some New Yorker who was like who
- 18:13Speaker 1: is that?
- 18:16Speaker 2: Honestly, there's probably still people who don't know who Peter
- 18:19Speaker 2: Parker is, right like, it's like, what is this?
- 18:20Speaker 1: And actually now nobody does.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Spoilers Number two. Oh my god, this should have been
- 18:32Speaker 3: number one on the list.
- 18:33Speaker 1: It could have. Honestly, if it were a list of
- 18:36Speaker 1: the most entertaining scenes from the MCU, it probably would.
- 18:40Speaker 2: It lives rent free in my head and in the
- 18:42Speaker 2: heads of millions of others for good reason.
- 18:44Speaker 1: This scene is delightful and actually accomplishes a couple of
- 18:46Speaker 1: things for the Guardians of the Galaxy narrative.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Oh yeah, First, we get to see grow a bit
- 18:50Speaker 2: after watching him sacrifice himself for his friends in the
- 18:53Speaker 2: climax of the movie.
- 18:54Speaker 3: It's one of the most moving.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Scenes in the entire MCU, So to go from that
- 18:57Speaker 2: point in sad moment to this goofy and delightful it
- 19:00Speaker 2: just sticks with and puts you in a good mood.
- 19:02Speaker 1: The scene also takes advantage of Gun's use of music
- 19:05Speaker 1: to push the narrative forward throughout the movie.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Gun originally pitched using music from the seventies and eighties
- 19:10Speaker 2: to make the film feel more grounded and remind audiences
- 19:13Speaker 2: that Peter is from Earth.
- 19:14Speaker 1: But at the end of the movie we get I
- 19:16Speaker 1: Want You Back by the Jackson Five, with Baby Group
- 19:18Speaker 1: dancing making him feel more human and earth like.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Plus, Baby Michael Jackson's voice kind of goes really well
- 19:24Speaker 2: with Baby Group stealing the.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Show equally delightful. James Gunn told the public after the
- 19:28Speaker 1: film's release that Baby groups dance moves are actually based
- 19:31Speaker 1: on Gun's very own silly moves.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Yes, and he apparently told everyone to leave the studio
- 19:36Speaker 2: because he was too shy to do this scene in
- 19:38Speaker 2: front of everyone else. He videotaped himself and then sent
- 19:41Speaker 2: the footage to his animators and the rest is MCU legend.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Ultimately, it's just one.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Of the most memorable scenes in the MCU and deserves
- 19:48Speaker 2: to be number two on our list, but there is
- 19:50Speaker 2: an argument for number one.
- 19:52Speaker 1: In my opinion, it was funny that it was hilarious,
- 19:54Speaker 1: then do you think it's so funny now?
- 19:56Speaker 3: I think it's fantastic. Now.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I've just got done doing like a rewatch or work.
- 20:01Speaker 2: At least we're past this part of the rewatch of
- 20:04Speaker 2: the MCU timeline, and I love the scene.
- 20:07Speaker 3: It still holds up.
- 20:09Speaker 2: The funny ones are always funny and they stick with you.
- 20:12Speaker 2: So like it stands out and you know what, like
- 20:16Speaker 2: Drax has his own separate comedic performance and comedic relief,
- 20:21Speaker 2: and so him and Groot on the screen together like
- 20:24Speaker 2: Goods gets.
- 20:25Speaker 1: It is And I agree. I think this scene is
- 20:28Speaker 1: classic and it's just so fun that it's hard not
- 20:32Speaker 1: to smile at it. By the way, speaking of Drags, here,
- 20:35Speaker 1: as Drax keeps whipping his head around to see if
- 20:38Speaker 1: is dancing, do you know why he's stopping to dance
- 20:42Speaker 1: every time Dax looks at him?
- 20:44Speaker 3: No, why is that?
- 20:45Speaker 1: So? It's actually confirmed in the audio commentary in Guarding
- 20:49Speaker 1: to the Galaxy Too, that he's doing that because Drax
- 20:54Speaker 1: thinks dancing is stupid and he doesn't dance, and group
- 20:58Speaker 1: wants wants Drags to think is cool. So that's why
- 21:02Speaker 1: he stops dancing every time he looks at him.
- 21:06Speaker 3: That's so jarving. This scene should be number one.
- 21:10Speaker 1: This scene because I have to imagine because of how
- 21:13Speaker 1: popular this scene is, or just maybe how much antickled
- 21:17Speaker 1: James Gunn that he doubles down this scene and it
- 21:21Speaker 1: becomes the intro to Gardens of the Galaxy two with
- 21:24Speaker 1: Grew dancing, and then it kind of becomes the ending
- 21:28Speaker 1: of Gardens of the Galaxy three, when the Dad Days
- 21:31Speaker 1: of Summer is playing, when everyone is dancing, and finally
- 21:34Speaker 1: so is Drax.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Great point, Yeah, that it's one of the best parts
- 21:39Speaker 2: of the Guardians franchise is really just how it intertwines
- 21:41Speaker 2: music and then of course grew dancing.
- 21:43Speaker 3: Who doesn't love grew dancing.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Dude, all forms of grew dancing. I'll take all ages
- 21:48Speaker 1: of grew dancing. I love it, but baby Grew that's
- 21:51Speaker 1: a special dance in my heart, it's the first one.
- 21:54Speaker 1: It's the best of one. Also, do you think in
- 21:56Speaker 1: that scene that this is how drags learn to become invisible?
- 21:59Speaker 3: I think think Drax is still learning how it's become invisible.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Number one? Because the hell are you Nick Fury, director
- 22:08Speaker 1: of she of course this was the number one scene.
- 22:11Speaker 1: We're not insane.
- 22:12Speaker 2: I mean we did put The Captain America PSA at
- 22:15Speaker 2: number ten.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I am not redefending that choice. It makes sense.
- 22:19Speaker 3: In any case.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Coming in at the top of our post credit scene
- 22:23Speaker 2: list is the post credit scene that started it all,
- 22:26Speaker 2: not just the trend and technique of using post credit
- 22:28Speaker 2: scenes to thread different films together, but also the beginning
- 22:31Speaker 2: of the Marvel universe and now multiverse. It all starts
- 22:34Speaker 2: with Nick Fury telling Tony he's part of a much
- 22:37Speaker 2: bigger universe and.
- 22:38Speaker 1: How right he was. This scene crosses all of the checkboxes,
- 22:42Speaker 1: which is impressive given the next movie would have Tony
- 22:44Speaker 1: Stark in a post credit scene taking the role of
- 22:47Speaker 1: Nick Fury to speak with Thunderbolt Ross. And honestly, it
- 22:50Speaker 1: isn't nearly as memorable.
- 22:52Speaker 3: I mean that movie is only barely canon.
- 22:55Speaker 1: That is not true, and you know it.
- 22:56Speaker 2: I'm just saying, how often have you watched the incredible
- 22:59Speaker 2: Hulk on your MC You rewatch.
- 23:00Speaker 1: This moving on? This scene is fun for so many reasons. First,
- 23:05Speaker 1: just like the Shwarma scene, this scene was mostly improvised.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Fige and director John Favreau asked comic book writer Brian
- 23:11Speaker 1: Michael Bendis, the guy who invented Miles Morales to come
- 23:14Speaker 1: in the day before they shot the scene, to well
- 23:17Speaker 1: write the scene.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Basically, Figi asked Bendis to write dialogue for Jackson, and
- 23:21Speaker 2: Bendis couldn't say us fast enough.
- 23:23Speaker 1: It's funny how many comic book lovers don't like Bendis,
- 23:26Speaker 1: and yet his resume has some pretty iconic work.
- 23:29Speaker 2: And this scene is iconic, and it's funny because this
- 23:31Speaker 2: almost wasn't the scene that we got. Figi released an
- 23:34Speaker 2: alternate version of this scene where Fury references the X
- 23:37Speaker 2: Man and Spider Man.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Marvel Studios was just a fledgling production company at the time,
- 23:41Speaker 1: but it really shows you here that they were banking
- 23:44Speaker 1: on Iron Man to kick off what they believed could
- 23:46Speaker 1: be decades of superhero cinema storytelling.
- 23:49Speaker 2: This was the beginning of a much larger story. It
- 23:52Speaker 2: was the beginning of Fige pulling off one of the
- 23:54Speaker 2: most ambitious gambits in Hollywood history, and it struck gold,
- 23:58Speaker 2: with help, of course, from Samuel Alti leaning in to
- 24:01Speaker 2: the cool factor.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Funny enough, Jackson agreed to do this as a favor
- 24:04Speaker 1: to Jon Favreau. Favreau was a big comic book fan,
- 24:07Speaker 1: and he wanted to fill the movie with easter eggs.
- 24:10Speaker 1: One of those easter eggs was the reimagining of Nick Fury.
- 24:12Speaker 1: In two thousand and two, the comic book The Ultimates,
- 24:15Speaker 1: which is a lot of what the MCU is based on,
- 24:18Speaker 1: featured a new Nick Fury. No longer a white guy,
- 24:21Speaker 1: he'd been reimagined to look like well Samuel Jackson. They
- 24:24Speaker 1: actually never asked his permission either. That's awkward, yeah, but
- 24:28Speaker 1: it's one of those rare instances of life imitating art.
- 24:32Speaker 2: I love that Fabreau added the post credit scene to
- 24:35Speaker 2: just do a fun Easter egg woman, and now post
- 24:37Speaker 2: credit scenes are one of the most important parts of
- 24:39Speaker 2: an MCU film's DNA.
- 24:41Speaker 1: This scene, Nick, I don't even remember if I was
- 24:44Speaker 1: expecting a post credit scene. I think like post credit
- 24:48Speaker 1: scenes were like one of those things that a movie
- 24:50Speaker 1: may or may not have at the time, and I
- 24:54Speaker 1: think I was on a roll with picking the movies
- 24:57Speaker 1: that did and I stuck around, and then sure enough
- 25:00Speaker 1: the movie kept going after after the credits had finished,
- 25:03Speaker 1: and Tony walked into his home, and I don't know
- 25:08Speaker 1: what else to say because the hype came so quickly
- 25:13Speaker 1: in this moment.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Listen, this is how much Marvel's post credit scenes changed
- 25:20Speaker 2: the game.
- 25:21Speaker 3: In your head, you thought that there used to.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Be some post credit scenes in movies. There were never
- 25:26Speaker 2: post credit scenes in movies. When you saw the credits
- 25:28Speaker 2: rule you left the theater. When this happened, it was
- 25:32Speaker 2: just like, what in the world is gonna happen next?
- 25:35Speaker 3: Like it was totally ridiculous.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Like there wasn't any post credit scenes before this happened,
- 25:40Speaker 2: Like this is the reason there's post creditings because.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Of the MCU, Like this is it.
- 25:46Speaker 1: I agree with you. I mean post credit scenes. You know,
- 25:49Speaker 1: Marvel certainly didn't invent them, but I think they popularized
- 25:53Speaker 1: them in the modern era of cinema, right. I think
- 25:57Speaker 1: I think people started googling after after different movies to see, like, hey,
- 26:02Speaker 1: is there a post credit scene? Should I wait around
- 26:05Speaker 1: to see, like, you know, if it's actually a thing,
- 26:08Speaker 1: And because you have to now because so many films
- 26:11Speaker 1: are trying to piggyback off of what Marvel did. It
- 26:15Speaker 1: should be noted that Iron Man, even though like it
- 26:18Speaker 1: is definitely regarded as one of the most successful superhero
- 26:21Speaker 1: movies of all time, that it wasn't the only superhero
- 26:24Speaker 1: movie that came out during that summer. The Dark Knight
- 26:27Speaker 1: also came out right around the same time, also beloved,
- 26:31Speaker 1: also regarded as one of the best, if not the best,
- 26:34Speaker 1: superhero film of all time. But I think this film
- 26:37Speaker 1: holds up differently because it really did kick off a
- 26:41Speaker 1: new era of superhero storytelling.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a great point. That's hilarious.
- 26:45Speaker 2: I would never have guessed that was the other movie
- 26:47Speaker 2: that came out during that year if you would invest me.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Obviously equal like and sandly good film, like great film,
- 26:53Speaker 2: great superhero film. But yeah, this specifically kicking off a
- 26:59Speaker 2: universe that were still enthralled with and still excited about
- 27:02Speaker 2: and still looking forward to what's next.
- 27:05Speaker 1: It is funny like thinking about those two films in
- 27:09Speaker 1: that year and where we are now as far as
- 27:12Speaker 1: those individual properties go, as far as Disney and Warner
- 27:16Speaker 1: Brothers go, because the Dark Knight when it came out
- 27:19Speaker 1: and to this day, you know, is heralded as one
- 27:21Speaker 1: of the greatest superhero films of all time, and what
- 27:24Speaker 1: a high for the DC universe to ride in that moment.
- 27:28Speaker 1: But for Marvel, Iron Man was just the beginning, right,
- 27:32Speaker 1: and the best of Marvel was still yet to come,
- 27:36Speaker 1: Whereas unfortunately for DC, I don't think they've ever had
- 27:39Speaker 1: anything that's even come close to The Dark Knight.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Nope, I think you're correct about that.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Maybe the closest thing was the most reason of The
- 27:46Speaker 2: Batman by Matt Reeves.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Probably probably, but yeah, but that might be the closest
- 27:52Speaker 1: thing that comes That's our list. How did we Do
- 27:55Speaker 1: you love it?
- 27:55Speaker 3: Do you hate it? Either way, let us know in
- 27:57Speaker 3: the comments.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Thanks for watching all this and if you enjoy this,
- 28:00Speaker 2: be sure to give it a like and a subscribe.
- 28:02Speaker 1: That was a merry Marvel Christmas countdown. Merry Christmas and
- 28:05Speaker 1: happy holidays. Peace,
