- 1:37Joe. It's all j It's all Jays on the Joe Javel, Javel,
- 1:41Joe Javel Javel. I love it. I'll go first, do it.
- 1:42I'll go first. I want to introduce you to two a pair of two
- 1:49pairs, two couples, two couples. We have bad judge Jay. We
- 1:56have Guy and Doris Burnett. Sounds fake. And Guy and Doris are suing
- 2:01John Long and Erica Robinson. Okay, John Long and Erica Robinson. They're
- 2:07suing for five thousand dollars five K for car payments and damages. This is
- 2:14going to start as a run of the mill, Lacy, go Daisy's,
- 2:19Leasy, go Daisy's, and then it's going to take a left, and
- 2:21then John Long shows up. Guy and Doris they moved from Pennsylvania to New
- 2:28Hampshire, a small town in New Hampshire, and they did what any couple
- 2:34in their forties and fifties do when they move to a new town. They
- 2:38join a Facebook group of that town to try to get to know people.
- 2:43We'll see what's out there. You don't have to move to a town.
- 2:44You can just bramble gym plus and join our Facebook. That's exactly right,
- 2:46I was born again. So they join a Facebook group to try to get
- 2:53to know people, see what all the hubbub is about. And Doris starts
- 2:59to see some posts from Erica claiming that they are in desperate need of food
- 3:05for them and their children, and so Doris reaches out and says, I'd
- 3:10love to bring you a meal, bring you some food, and she says,
- 3:15great, here's my address. When she shows up, nobody's home,
- 3:19so she leaves it on the porch. She does notice that there's like no
- 3:23kid toys on the yard, and she finds that to be odd. If
- 3:27she have kids, you know, uh there maybe there would be kids.
- 3:30But she's like what, you know, what, what can he do?
- 3:31So she leaves. She never meets Erica. She just leaves the food and
- 3:35goes great. And the neighbor's like, oh, make sure that they get
- 3:38it. So then Guy sees some posts from John on the Facebook, John
- 3:47Law saying Hey, I need rides for me and my kids. To go
- 3:52to some doctor's appointments. I don't have a car. I need I needed
- 3:57some help, need some rides. And so Guy is gonna help. Guy
- 4:00reaches out, tries to set up a time to help them get them to
- 4:03where they need to be. And every time they nail down a time,
- 4:08John Long would would back out. It like wouldn't work out. And so
- 4:12they start to talk to John a little bit more like while they're trying to
- 4:15get nailed down a time to pick him up. And John's like, listen,
- 4:18I'm John Long. I'm I actually have money. I'm a tow truck
- 4:26driver. I just can't buy a car because every time I get to the
- 4:30financing part of it, they run my credit. I don't have great credit,
- 4:33you know, I have a pass, but I do have money.
- 4:36And so Old Guy and Doris look out their window, and what do they
- 4:42see. They see a van of theirs that isn't really being used. Man,
- 4:46they have this van are above and they they are they really want to
- 4:53be liked earth. So they look outside. They see this van. It's
- 4:58relatively new, it's fully loaded, but they are still making payments on And
- 5:02so they make a deal with John Long, which you'd ever deal. You
- 5:08don't deal. You don't deal with John Long. They make a deal with
- 5:11John Is it a handshaky deal? It's a contract, Okay. They make
- 5:15a deal with John Long that hey, we're still making payments on this as
- 5:18long as you pay that amount, you can lease it from us. And
- 5:23as long as you're making payments, were good to go. They make a
- 5:25contract to draw it up and it's good to go. This is at this
- 5:29point that John Long has interrupted a couple of times. Uh. He's interrupted
- 5:33to say, uh, first and foremost, they said that the car had
- 5:42x amount of miles, it had more, Okay, so he wants to
- 5:46make sure that everyone knows that and uh. He also says in second of
- 5:51all their liars, souh. So guy guy endorsed say, here's what we
- 6:00need to do. You need to get insurance, and according to Toyota,
- 6:05you also need to add us on the insurance. Since you're leasing our vehicle,
- 6:11which we're still paying to Toyota, you need to put us on on
- 6:14your insurance. So John Long says, that's not a thing. It's that's
- 6:19not required by law. They're lying, essentially, so Jerry and the bailiff
- 6:23are. Both have told John Long to be quiet a couple of times that
- 6:27they're going to get their chance to talk. So it's now time for John
- 6:30Long to talk. John Long says, I got the insurance. I paid
- 6:34four hundred dollars. UH, signed the contract. I paid it for three
- 6:39months and and then the transmission went out. Okay, okay. So John
- 6:46says, listen, here's what you need to know, John, This is
- 6:50this is how John Long starts. He says, First of all, you
- 6:55guys live in my town. I don't live in yours. Oh my gosh,
- 7:00John Long, that's all you need. That's all you needed about.
- 7:02Yeah. Second, plenty against the big town. Yeah. Second of all,
- 7:06we're not crooks. We're on disability. They took advantage of us by
- 7:10tricking us into paying more for the car than it's worth. Lastly, they
- 7:13broke the law by subleasing it to us, because according to Toyota, you
- 7:17can't do that. So someone's lying here about that because it would be easy
- 7:21to figure out. Yes, but whatever Toyota says. He says that Toyota
- 7:27says that if you're still making payments, you can't sublease the vehicles. So
- 7:30yes, I did sign a contract for four hundred dollars, but I did
- 7:31it with them breaking the lawn in the first place. Did we ever get
- 7:34to the bottom that came? No, we never. I know, we
- 7:38never, because if you can't sublease the sublet, then he's got a point.
- 7:41Yeah, well we don't get to that. Sorry, So he says,
- 7:44I paid four hundred dollars until the transmission went out. I quit paying
- 7:46because according to law in the state of New Hampshire. Uh, Lisa lisays
- 7:53Lessi's Lisa Li says, Lisa Leslie's aren't required by law to pay for serious
- 8:03car damages or maintenance, which transmission would be considered serious. So that's why
- 8:09I stopped paying. That's true. He's right there. If you lease a
- 8:13car, the dealer or whoever you lease from, is responsible. The Lessie
- 8:18is not. Back to Guy and Doris, okay, they say, after
- 8:26they didn't receive a payment, they reached out to get the van. After
- 8:28a lot of back and forth, they finally did and the van is an
- 8:31absolute mess. There's damages all around it. Parts of the car are missing,
- 8:37the windshield is broken. They bring it into to get maintenance done,
- 8:43and the maintenance guy is like, this is the worst. This is the
- 8:50most messed up car I've ever seen. And they have a letter from the
- 8:54maintenance guy who says, basically, it looks like they were they had tied
- 9:01the van to something and had spun the wheels had just been just spinning the
- 9:07wheels staying in place, which is what would lead to a trans the transmission
- 9:13breaking because they had to make the transmission uh service uh not service fixed.
- 9:20Uh. They put a new transmission like a month before they started. So
- 9:26uh, they they all that's in writing. It looks like this is just
- 9:33me. I'm not I'm not there, but it looks like to me,
- 9:37John Longside, if I can get something serious to break in the van,
- 9:43then I can just stop paying as Hey, I could probably fix it for
- 9:46cheap, and then I can say, hey, I need this exactly.
- 9:50You know that's probably what trying to get money. Yeah, you know what
- 9:54it is. So they show pictures there's a lot of damage to the car.
- 10:00Are just like just parts of the car are just missing. It's a
- 10:03bizarre situation here. And Doris says, and also I kept up in the
- 10:09Facebook group. They're continued to scan people and I don't even think that they
- 10:15have children, and that's when Erica, who has not said a thing or
- 10:18made any expressions during this entire not only pipes up. She starts yelling and
- 10:26crying and says, we have two children. They're adopted. Don't talk about
- 10:33my children. Erica freaks out about this whole thing. We don't know about
- 10:41the children, but whatever. Jerry tells them to calm down. John Long
- 10:46says, don't tell me to calm down. Jerry then shushes him. John
- 10:50Long says, why are you shushing me. Jerry says it's because I'm the
- 10:54judge and it's my courtroom. John Long says, I don't care. I'll
- 10:58walk out, and Jerry says, well, that'll make it easy on the
- 11:01judgment. And John Long says I don't care, but Jerry still tries to
- 11:07continue. Jerry's nothing but professionals not and he says, listen Burnett's don't talk
- 11:15about their kids. It's it's out of line. It's not relevant to this
- 11:16story. John Long, Erica, you need to relax. So Jerry says,
- 11:22here's what I care about. Whether or not there's a legal obligation for
- 11:26John Long to pay for the remaining lease and for the damages. John Long
- 11:31says, can I speak, and Jerry says okay. John Long says they
- 11:35didn't repossess it, and Doris interrupts it, interrupts him and says, well
- 11:41then how do we have it? And John Long says, shut up.
- 11:48Guy says excuse me. John Long says, don't say excuse me to me.
- 11:54There's no one here to stop me. You do you think you or
- 11:58I am? And the bailiff at this point they showed Jerry and the bailiff,
- 12:03and the bailiff just points to himself and just like is like I can
- 12:07I can stuck you. That's kind of why I'm here. At this point,
- 12:13Uh, everybody's kind of like laughing, like what is going on here?
- 12:16John Long keeps running his mouth. Jerry bangs the gavel, stands up
- 12:22and says, get out of my courtroom, yells at them. At this
- 12:28point it was wild Erica turns to Doris and says, come meet me somewhere,
- 12:35b and she storms out. John John John Long follows behind and pushes,
- 12:45like just pushes the door really hard, and I think he thought that
- 12:50it would work better, but he pushed it as hard as he could and
- 12:54it hit the wall and it came back and it hit him as he was
- 12:56walking out. That was pretty great. And now it's time for the judgement
- 13:00and Jerry rules in favor of Guy and Doris obviously Dorian Doris whatever he name
- 13:03is. The good news for Doris and Guy is that they had a really
- 13:09great contract. Their contract states that, uh, they have to pay for
- 13:13the duration that they have the vehicle, and so they're going to owe on
- 13:18I think it's two months, like eight hundred dollars or something like that,
- 13:22and then they it also states that the card needs to be returning the same
- 13:26or better condition. The damages according to the surface, Guy is said that
- 13:31it's going to be well over four thousand dollars, and so Jerry gives him
- 13:33the entire band of dollars. And that is that John on Long didn't stand
- 13:39a change. That Long doesn't stand a chance. You're not you're not just
- 13:43dealing with with anybody. You're dealing with Jerry Springer. Jerry Springer, Judge,
- 13:46Jerry, it's my core room. Who do you think you are?
- 13:50I am man, what a good one? Man? I wish you could
- 13:54have seen John Long. Let's uh what do he look like? He was
- 13:56a big boy big. He was a big boy like buzz cut. Yeah.
- 14:05Wow, it's John Long. Let's go down south the old Texas Justice
- 14:09John. Oh yeah, Judge Joe Brown. How we're going out there in
- 14:13Judge Joe Brown's courtroom. We have miss Miller and mister Bullock. We maybe
- 14:18get their names written. I don't remember them, he only says, Miss
- 14:22Miller, mister Bullock. The whole case. Okay. Miss Miller is suing
- 14:24mister Bullock for twenty five hundred dollars in cash plus uh medical bills and pain
- 14:33and suffering uh for infection of scabies, totaling three hundred dollars. So you
- 14:41know, you don't see the scaby's coming. You don't see the skavy's coming.
- 14:43You never do. Uh. Their secret scavy saw them for sure.
- 14:48Boy, so good. They don't an announce their shows. You just show
- 14:50up, show up. You just listen for a week. You just see
- 14:52in your head for weeks. What's a secret. What's a secret. That's
- 14:56right. So let's start with miss Miller. She says, I moved into
- 14:58mister Bullock's house in November. I signed a lease. We see a picture
- 15:03of that lease. That lease is written on a sheet of printer paper in
- 15:09pen, and it's a couple of sentences and it's basically, first month up
- 15:11front, this is what you gotta pay. So isn't it crazy that that's
- 15:16all it takes. That's all it takes. That's it's just words now,
- 15:20piece of Mister Bullock is an old, old dude. He looks he's old,
- 15:24he's short, he's got a suit on. I think he's I don't
- 15:26know what kind of ties got on. So he had an actual house and
- 15:30he was he's gussing out a room. He's got apartment units over the place
- 15:35where he lives. He lives in the basement. Okay, so he lives
- 15:37in the basement rooms. There's units. You're probably walking a hallway and there's
- 15:41four room. So, uh, there're separate apartment units. Because when she
- 15:46went to look, she was looking for a place to live, needed one
- 15:48right away, and she went to look and he popped out of the basement
- 15:52and the two bedroom unit was being worked on, and so he showed her
- 15:58the three bedroom unit and she liked it, and she said, I'll take
- 16:00the two bedroom and he says, okay, all right, I'll be done
- 16:03by tomorrow on it. And she said so she looked at the three better
- 16:10and she said, when can I move in? He said, as soon
- 16:12as you I have the money, soon as I have first month's you know,
- 16:15rent I had a time thousand dollars sate. And then she says,
- 16:22Now I'm an exotic dancer and I work in the evenings. I worked two
- 16:26clubs. The first one in the evening, I started like seven, I
- 16:29worked all this midnight. The next one I work until nine am in the
- 16:33morning, like from midnight to nine am. And Joe, at this point,
- 16:36Joe goes, she's going nine to nine, She's going nine to nine,
- 16:40seven to nine. Sometimes. At this point, Joe goes very enterprising
- 16:44and he says, it just like that, and uh, she said a
- 16:48dancing. So I worked and uh, mister Bullock asked where his money was
- 16:52because I wanted to move in the next day, and then we were gonna
- 16:56paint it. Uh, because we wanted to paint it, and so we
- 16:57were gonna and then we're gonna get the lights turned on. And so I
- 17:00had all of my money in my money bag. Sure, and Joe said,
- 17:03what's a money bag? What do you think of money bag? And
- 17:07uh, and she goes a Kavassier bag, and he said, I don't
- 17:11know what no Kvasier bag is is is that is that like the alcohol?
- 17:18What he says, And she says, yes, sir, And he says,
- 17:22how quaint. So apparently Kavasier, which is you know, the bust
- 17:26of rhyme song, passed the Cavassier. I didn't make any of that up.
- 17:30That's a real song. Is I believe a form of Hennessy. She
- 17:33was carrying around all of her stripper money in a Hennessy bag that's normally carries
- 17:38a bottle of Hennessy. So that's where we are right now at nine in
- 17:44the morning. So so she said how He said, how much money do
- 17:48you have? And she said, I had a little bit over three thousand
- 17:51dollars on me. I gave one thousand mister Bullock to move in sign the
- 17:56lease, gave him a thousand dollars in cash. Now, at this point,
- 18:00my boyfriend and I left and went to purchase the paint, the rollers,
- 18:04et cetera, and the net we're gonna paint, and then the next
- 18:08day we were going to actually move in and turn the lights on, but
- 18:11we got the keys, we locked the door and we left, and here's
- 18:15the kicker. I left the Kavasier bag in my new apartment. So she
- 18:22gave one thousand dollars in cash brand to the roommate, to the to mister
- 18:26bulls Kvasier bag. How it is, Yeah, it's pretty straightforward, looks
- 18:30pretty standard. It's like a bag. Yeah, past the Cavasier. Uh.
- 18:34She gave a thousand dollars, mister Bullock. She then gets the keys,
- 18:38goes into her house, puts the bag down the table. It's got
- 18:42over two thousand dollars in it, leaves it there to go buy paint rollers
- 18:45and whatnot. She says, this is my place. Where else would I
- 18:49put my mond? Well, she gets back, money's gone, bag stolen,
- 18:53no sign of forced entry. So my god. So at this point,
- 19:03Joe says, now, why didn't you take the money with you to
- 19:07buy the things that you wanted to buy. She goes, I have other
- 19:08money. That's my savings. Yeah, that's my savings. He said,
- 19:12well, there's no bank that could take the savings, and she said,
- 19:15that was my money. I put it down the door. The keys lecture
- 19:18her on not putting your money in a bank, Joe. So then she
- 19:22has a witness that's her boyfriend. And the witness keeps doing the two step
- 19:26like, he keeps getting up and then sitting back, sit back, and
- 19:30he keeps getting up, sitting back down, and it's a riot. And
- 19:34then finally she gets this moment. He gets up and he goes, Judge
- 19:40Joe, you don't walk around with that kind of money. He gave us
- 19:41the key. This shouldn't have been an issue. The money's in our house.
- 19:45He gave us the key. Shouldn't be the issue. And then Joe
- 19:48goes, where you live has a burglary problem? And she goes he The
- 19:53witness goes, no, it doesn't, and he says, yes, it
- 19:56does. It's in It's in Raleigh, North Carolina, and in this neighborhood.
- 20:00I've got the district right here. There's more burglaries in this district than
- 20:03anywhere else. You very much should be responsible for your twenty five hundred dollars.
- 20:11You could get it robbed. And the witness goes, but somebody had
- 20:14to get in there with a key. It wasn't broken in. He didn't
- 20:18change the locks. Mister Bullock didn't change the locks. Then Judge Joe goes,
- 20:23do you have a statement from your employer saying that you had that much
- 20:27money in there? Do you have a W two? Do you have anything
- 20:32that says you actually had over two thousand dollars in the cavasier bag in the
- 20:36apartment. She says, No, I'm a dancer. I just got I
- 20:38got paid in cash. That's it. Like, do you not know how
- 20:41it works? She's just giving her the full month. Exotic dancers get W
- 20:48two's for their tips. Okay, yeah, they probably technically have to like
- 20:52table servers, but it like it's like when you wait in tables you declare
- 20:55like none of it. Yeah, so, uh tell me out to scabies,
- 21:00she said, forgot about the escape. Yeah, scabs is still coming
- 21:04in hot. So she said, mister Bullock, let us have two chairs
- 21:10that were his. He brought him up. Let him have us have the
- 21:12chairs. And we got like after a week or there, we started itching
- 21:18and he she said, I asked if he had bad bugs, didn't have
- 21:22bad bugs. We started itching, couldn't figure out what it was. When
- 21:23the doctor wants they told us it was this. Had to continue to get
- 21:26treatments over it. And we still have medical bills coming in that we've not
- 21:30actually gotten yet. We still have more bills that we didn't sue for that
- 21:33we have coming in. Here are those medical bills. And at this point,
- 21:37uh, do they know, like for sure that it came from those
- 21:40chair point mister Bullock, who literally he looks like he is the father Tom
- 21:44like he is an old, short dude who looks like he's in Sunday morning
- 21:48church. But he has not said anything the whole time. I don't know
- 21:51if he has teeth or not. And he he says, he finally says,
- 21:55you got that statement from somewhere else, That raby's paperwork, you got
- 21:57from somewhere else, not scape the rabies, and he's and and she was
- 22:02like, I knew he would say that it's scabies from the bed bugs you
- 22:06gave me. And he said, you got that rabi scabies whatever from somewhere
- 22:10else. You got scabies from all them dogs you've been sleeping with. You
- 22:11sleep with a dog, you get fleas. No, No, he's he's
- 22:18calling shots. And I don't know if money much of it makes sense,
- 22:22but he's calling shots. So at this point, Joe said is looking at
- 22:26the medical bills and says, uh, miss miss Miller did you read this,
- 22:32and she said, and before she can say anything, mister Bullock says,
- 22:34she can't read. He may as well have the guns out. He
- 22:40says, she can scamy somewhere else. You gotta sleep with the dog.
- 22:42You get fleas. You got them fleas with the dogs you've been sleeping with.
- 22:45Blah blah blah. You're all right, so uh, Joe says,
- 22:49this says that scabies can uh gets under your skin and uh can requires treatment,
- 22:56but can be transmitted between humans. Do you have proof that you got
- 23:02the bed bugs, the scabies from bed bugs in your apartment? Do you
- 23:06have anything that is impossible? It's from your line of work. So he
- 23:11doesn't say line of work, but what he does say is is where were
- 23:14you living before you moved in? And she said they were in a hotel
- 23:18for a few weeks. And that allows Joe to go into his full new
- 23:23story about New York and how the upscale hotels got the scabies and they were
- 23:30getting the bed bugs and was giving people scabies. It was a whole thing.
- 23:34Mister Bullock then popped Joe and says, mister Bullock, did you have
- 23:38you had any issues with scabies? Bed bugs and he does is full.
- 23:42It's like he's in a sitcom waiting for a life. He does this,
- 23:47turns his head away and the audience laughs. And he just says, she
- 23:51just liing, lie in line, That's all she's doing, is lying.
- 23:53She said, he said, I'm retired from the military, retire from work.
- 23:56I'm over seventy years old. I've she's just lying, she's she's just
- 24:02lying and uh. And then Joe says, well, these medical bills are
- 24:07all from like July or August. You moved into November and said you got
- 24:11this right away. I think you're scamming him, and the witness her boyfriend
- 24:15says, Judge, this is about him stealing our money. He stole and
- 24:18then Judge, he stole your money. Do you have proof he stole your
- 24:22money? Do you have any proof that he stole your money? And then
- 24:26mister Bullock says, you're on her. I'm seventy years old. These are
- 24:29the first bit that have ever called me a thief. And then miss Miller
- 24:33starts screaming at him, why didn't you change the locks? Why didn't you
- 24:36change the locks? And Bullet goes, look dummy, yeah, and miss
- 24:41Miller's like you're just old. You should be sitting in a home watching TV,
- 24:45eating jello. And then at that point Judge Joe calms everybody's down and
- 24:48he's ready to rule. Yeah, I don't think they're gonna get anything.
- 24:52I mean, I do think it's unfortunate, you know, Like I think
- 24:56it is very likely that he didn't change the lock, and that somebody had
- 25:00a key and they went in and then he took the money. I don't
- 25:03think that they're lying about that. But I don't think Judge Joe really cares,
- 25:08and so I don't think that they're gonna get any money. You're run
- 25:12hundred percent right, and I one hundred percent agree with you. Judge Joe
- 25:15basically throws the book at her, doesn't give her a dime, and basically
- 25:18is hard on her from the moment he finds out she's a dancer. And
- 25:21that bothered me during this case quite a bit. I don't think Bullocks stole
- 25:26the money. I don't think he did. He's seventy years old, he's
- 25:27been written for years and years. There would be no reason for him to
- 25:30steal two thousand dollars. It doesn't make any sense, and her story didn't
- 25:34quite add up timeline wise, But like the people that were doing the work,
- 25:38it could be that they had a key. It could Yeah, it
- 25:41could be any number of people if he didn't change a lot. He just
- 25:45fully doesn't believe her because she's a dancer, and that's unfortunate. I don't
- 25:48think she deserved any money either. But he writes her off immediately, So
- 25:51judge, Joe, Scabies helps either. Scaby's thing doesn't help at all because
- 25:55it's clear the relevant to the Yeah, try to make him look like to
- 26:00try to ruin his credibility and instead it strengthened his credibility, and that's unfortunate
- 26:03for her. Listen, there's a lot of people that don't put their money
- 26:07in a bank. Joe, Come on, Joe. Yeah, I thought
- 26:11that line of questioning was verrassment. Yeah, it was like, she's a
- 26:15dancer, she made three thousand dollars, leave her alone. Yeah, but
- 26:19if you want to sue somebody for stealing it and you don't have any proof
- 26:22of it, that is a problem. Ye, Like it's a both hands
- 26:26yeah, because you can't stop it, Joe. But simultaneously, don't come
- 26:30in here and sue when you just left the bag of cash laying around like
- 26:33it's your cash. People have never lost money in a bank never? All
- 26:37right, we did. Congratulations, were back actually with another fun bay side
